~Nehemiah: A Motivator for the People~
Key Verse: Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good
upon me; as also the king's words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work. Nehemiah 2:18
Then I gave them my report: "Face it: we're in a
bad way here. Jerusalem is a wreck; its gates are burned up. Come let's build the wall of Jerusalem and not live with this disgrace any longer." I told them how God was supporting me and how the king was backing me up. They said, "We're with you. Let's get started." They rolled up their sleeves, ready for the good work.
There is nothing more important to a man or woman in leadership, than having the hand of God upon them. When followers truly believe this, they make that person their leader under most any circumstances, good or bad. (John 6:15; 1 Samuel 10)
And if the people truly believe the vision of their leader, they will make the leader's vision their own. Unless people see a vision and a leader, they are not likely to move. Why should they? Instead, they will become listless, disgruntled, and slowly perish (Proverbs 29:18), or even become a part of the opposition- because as least the opposition has a vision.
God has been gracious to Nehemiah. That was not a typical religious statement. Indeed, God had granted him favor that was beyond what he could have even asked for or thought about. Who was Nehemiah to make a request of any king? Why should the king of Persia have received him? Nehemiah was just a mere servant. But
like Ester (decades before him), Nehemiah was brought to the kingdom-and into the palace of the king-of Persia-to restore the people of God to social status and alignment with God. Remember, neither Nehemiah nor Ester were of Persian descent and neither of them had a natural right to approach the king for any reason.
Because Nehemiah had confidence, he bred confidence. The king was with him and God was with him (Nehemiah 2:8). It is no wonder the people said of their own accord Let us start building!
If you have any questions ask.
Have a blessed day and week.
