What a New Exhibit Reveals About Britain’s Relationship With Islam
Home > World > UK
BY ELLIOT FRIEDLAND Tuesday, April 11, 2017

Screenshot from V&A website. (Photo: V&A Museum)
John Lockwood Kipling (1837-1911) was a British Imperialist artisan, designer and curator. His life and work was to collect, curate and promote Indian art and design, mainly in the Muslim-majority Punjab region, which is now divided between Pakistan and India.

From January 14 to April 2 2017, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London held an exhibition entitled Lockwood Kipling: Arts and Crafts in the Punjab and London.

The exhibition featured chairs, prints, wall hangings and other pieces of art either collected by Kipling or produced by him or in collaboration with him. A movie played on a screen highlighted some of the grandeur in Lahore, capital of the Punjab region.

It touched in passing on the impact on Indian manufacturing of Kipling’s work, which to a large extent was collecting and copying Indian designs later to be mass produced cheaply in factories in the English Midlands, harming local producers.

The exhibition also highlighted the work of several Indian artists and showed Kipling’s work creating “Indian Rooms” for his royal patron. Several other contemporary Indian artists were also highlighted in the exhibition.

The central takeaway from the exhibition is to reassess the relationship Western countries have with Islamic communities. Britain, along with other Western countries such as the United States, has a long history with Islam. The British Muslim community today is largely, although by no means exclusively, of Pakistani descent. Extricating contemporary issues of integration and extremism from Britain’s imperial past is impossible. This does not mean that extremism is simply a blowback against colonial policies or that everything is the fault of the West. The exhibition showed how good work and enriching cultural exchange can and did happen even in a context of imperialist exploitation and racial oppression. Positive strains taking place within that context cannot be ignored either.

Kipling founded the Journal of Indian Art which promoted the work of Indian artists even as the empire benefited from their work. As the exhibition rightly notes, his life and work are still controversial in India today.

We have to honor the long shared history of interchange and interaction without denying either the racist and exploitative policies of the 19th century or the many individual cases of positive interaction which took place.

Awareness of and engagement with this long history will help efforts to improve integration. By moving the discourse away from one of focusing on antagonistic dynamics of counter-extremism on the one hand and racist oppression on the other we can edge relations towards a healthier dynamic of cultural interchange.

Evangelical Veterans Partner With Israelis In Marijuana Med Tech
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz April 10, 2017 , 10:30 am
“Hashem doth build up Yerushalayim, He gathereth together the dispersed of Yisrael, Who healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.” Psalms 147:3 (The Israel Bible™)

A California based firm run by Evangelical Special Forces veterans has partnered with an Israeli bio-tech company to develop cannabis-based solutions for a wide range of health concerns.
Zytecur, based in Hollister California, joined forces with Ilan Bio, an agro-biotechnology company located in Givat Chen in central Israel. Six of the founding members of Zycatur are ex-Special Forces in the U.S. military, a number of whom saw combat in Iraq and Afghanistan and were wounded.
“There’s really no other way to put it how this all came about other than the fact that God ordained us to have a successful enterprise,”Chris Clark, a founder of Zytecur, said in an interview with Benito Link. Zycatur is building their new 5,000 square meter base of operations in San Benito.

Clark is enthusiastic about partnering with Israelis.
“The consistency of the technology that the Israelis developed offers this industry solution not to just for California, but to the entire federally-regulated cannabis laws that are going to be put into affect,” Clark said. “It’s a well thought-out, tactical look at how to regulate medicalized cannabis that focuses on the medical efficacy of a plant. They’ve been studying it much longer than any other country.”
Liam Gal-Om, the CEO of Ilan Bio, was equally enthusiastic, noting that Israeli legislation has allowed this burgeoning medical technology to develop.
“We have one of the most forward-thinking governments in the world for cannabis,” he said in an interview to Israeli–Cannabis. “Israel is at the forefront for clinical trials, patent registration and now export, allowing for the medical cannabis industry here to evolve to pharma-scale for size and quality.”
Last month, an Israeli government committee took the first steps towards advancing legislation to allow the export of medical marijuana products, aiming to encourage new investment and innovation in the field, while boosting its agricultural sector.
Zytecur has signed America’s first and only contract with the U.S. Government through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) through the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. One of the many ailments they hope to address is post-traumatic stress disorder, a serious illness that plagues many of US veterans.

A father, mother and their two-year-old son have suffered burns following an acid attack in north London.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the assault on the family in Islington at about 1pm on Saturday that left the father with “life-changing” injuries, police said.

The trio were found with injuries after a strong acid was thrown on them, the London fire brigade said.

The father was named on the neighbouring Barnsbury estate as Hai. He is a longtime resident of the area and a father of two, with a child aged about 11 as well as a toddler. His brother was believed to live on the estate and he lived nearby with his mother, neighbours said.

One woman, who said she had known him for 20 years, said she believed he had been deliberately targeted. Another neighbour reported seeing someone run away in the immediate aftermath.

Murat Kayran, a local shopkeeper, told reporters that people had rushed in to buy water to help treat the chemical burns.

“They were a Chinese family. A woman frantically ran in here when it happened and said: ‘There’s been an acid attack’,” he said.

“She bought one bottle at first and then after that bought three more [1.5-litre] bottles of water. Then a gentleman came in and bought another three ... It’s such a scary thing to happen.”

At the scene of the attack, grit was spread on the pavement where the emergency services had cleared up the chemicals.

Police were called by the London ambulance service to reports of the attack on Copenhagen Street, near Charlotte Terrace.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “The victims – a 40-year-old father, a 36-year-old mother and their two-year-old boy – were found with injuries consistent with a noxious substance, believed to be an acid, being thrown at them.

“They were initially taken to a north London hospital and were subsequently transferred to another hospital.

“The man’s injuries, whilst not believed to be life-threatening, are being treated as life-changing. The woman and child suffered minor injuries but remain in hospital at this time.”

The fire brigade said the adults suffered 15% burns to their hands and bodies while the infant was burnt on his face.

The liquid had a pH reading of one and tests confirmed it was a strong acid and oxidising substance, a spokesman said.

Anyone with information should contact the police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111

Muslim Baroness Calls on UK to Prosecute Brits Serving in IDF
Apr 2, 2017
A British Muslim and former politician has called on the UK to prosecute citizens serving in the IDF, equating the Israeli military with ISIS.
Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, a former Conservative party cabinet member who resigned from her post in 2014 because the UK government did not condemn Israel’s counter-terrorism Operation Protective Edge, has called on the British government to prosecute citizens who volunteer to fight in the IDF.
Warsi, a British Muslim, said she was seeking to eliminate a loophole allowing Brits to serve in state armies like those of Israel or Pakistan as well as in non-state militaries such as the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group.
“If you go out there and fight for any group, you will be subject to prosecution when you get back. If you go out and fight for Assad, I presume, under our law, that is okay. That can’t be right,” Warsi said in an interview with Middle East Eye.
According to Warsi, anyone who serves in the IDF should be treated as a foreign fighter, much like those who have gone to fight for ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

Londonistan: 423 New Mosques; 500 Closed Churches
In another 20 years there are going to be more active Muslims than there are churchgoers in England.
"London is more Islamic than many Muslim countries put together", according to Maulana Syed Raza Rizvi, one of the Islamic preachers who now lead "Londonistan", as the journalist Melanie Phillips has called the English capital.

No, Rizvi is not a right-wing extremist. Wole Soyinka, a Nobel Laureate for Literature, was less generous; he called the UK "a cesspit for Islamists".

"Terrorists can not stand London multiculturalism", London's mayor Sadiq Khan said after the recent deadly terror attack at Westminster.

The opposite is true: British multiculturalists are feeding Islamic fundamentalism. Above all, Londonistan, with its new 423 mosques, is built on the sad ruins of English Christianity.

The Hyatt United Church was bought by the Egyptian community to be converted to a mosque. St Peter's Church has been converted into the Madina Mosque.

The Brick Lane Mosque was built on a former Methodist church.

Not only buildings are converted, but also people.

The number of converts to Islam has doubled; often they embrace radical Islam, as with Khalid Masood, the terrorist who struck Westminster.

The Daily Mail published photographs of a church and a mosque a few meters from each other in the heart of London.

At the Church of San Giorgio, designed to accommodate 1,230 worshipers, only 12 people gathered to worship. At the Church of Santa Maria, there were 20.

The nearby Brune Street Estate mosque has a different problem: overcrowding. Its small room and can contain only 100. On Friday, the faithful must pour into the street to pray.

Given the current trends, Christianity in England is becoming a relic, while Islam will be the religion of the future.

In Birmingham, the second-largest British city, where many jihadists live and orchestrate their attacks, an Islamic minaret dominates the sky.

There are petitions to allow British mosques to call the Islamic faithful to prayer on loudspeakers three times a day.

By 2020, estimates are that the number of Muslims attending prayers will reach at least 683,000, while the number of Christians attending weekly service will drop to 679,000.

"The new cultural landscape of English cities has arrived; the homogenised, Christian landscape of state religion is in retreat", said Ceri Peach of Oxford University.

While nearly half of British Muslims are under the age of 25, a quarter of Christians are over 65.

"In another 20 years there are going to be more active Muslims than there are churchgoers," said Keith Porteous Wood, director of the National Secular Society.

Since 2001, 500 London churches of all denominations have been turned into private homes. During the same period, British mosques have been proliferating.

Between 2012 and 2014, the proportion of Britons who identify themselves as Anglicans fell from 21% to 17%, a decrease of 1.7 million people, while, according to a survey conducted by the respected NatCen Social Research Institute, the number of Muslims has grown by almost a million.

Churchgoers are declining at a rate that within a generation, their number will be three times lower than that of Muslims who go regularly to mosque on Friday.

Demographically, Britain has been acquiring an increasingly an Islamic face, in places such as Birmingham, Bradford, Derby, Dewsbury, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Luton, Manchester, Sheffield, Waltham Forest and Tower Hamlets.

In 2015, an analysis of the most common name in England showed it was Mohammed, including spelling variations such as Muhammad and Mohammad.

Most important cities have huge Muslim populations: Manchester (15.8%), Birmingham (21.8%) and Bradford (24.7%).

In Birmingham, the police just dismantled a terrorist cell; there is also a greater probability that a child will be born into a Muslim family than into a Christian one.

In Bradford and Leicester, half the children are Muslim. Muslims do not need to become the majority in the UK; they just need gradually to Islamize the most important cities.

The change is already taking place. "Londonistan" is not a Muslim majority nightmare; it is a cultural, demographic and religious hybrid in which Christianity declines and Islam advances.

According to Innes Bowen, writing in The Spectator, only two of the 1,700 mosques in Britain today follow the modernist interpretation of Islam, compared with 56% in the United States.

The Wahhabis control six percent of mosques in the UK, while the fundamentalist Deobandi control up to 45%.
image: http://www.prophecynewswatch.com/images/ads/TCC_banner1.jpg

According to a survey from the Knowledge Center, a third of UK Muslims do not feel "part of British culture."

London is also full of sharia courts. There are officially 100. The advent of this parallel judicial system has been made possible thanks to the British Arbitration Act and the system of Alternative Dispute Resolution.

These new courts are based on the rejection of the inviolability of human rights: the values

of freedom and equality that are the basis of English Common Law.

British personalities keep opening the door to introduce sharia. One of Britain's leading judges, Sir James Munby, said that Christianity no longer influences the courts and these must be multicultural -- which means more Islamic.

Rowan Williams, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, and Chief Justice Lord Phillips also suggested that British law should "incorporate" elements of sharia law.

The British cultural establishment is rapidly capitulating to Islamic fundamentalists in accepting their demands.

British universities are also advancing Islamic law.

The official guidelines of the university, "External speakers in higher education institutions", published by Universities UK, provide that "orthodox religious groups" may separate men and women during events.

At Queen Mary University of London, women had to use a separate entrance and were forced to sit in a room without being able to ask questions or raise their hands -- as in Riyadh or Tehran.

The Islamic Society at the London School of Economics held a gala, in which women and men were separated by a seven-meter panel.

After the attack on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, the head of MI6, Sir John Sawers, recommended self-censorship and "some restraint" in discussing Islam.

The British ambassador in Saudi Arabia, Simon Collis, converted to Islam and completed the pilgrimage to Mecca, the hajj. He now calls himself Haji Collis.

What will be next?

“They are waiting to pounce, but using Europe as a test to see how far they can go. More bleeding hearts in Europe. God help us in Canada. Trudeau just passed an anti-islamaphobia law that threatens our free speech about Islam.”
Hundreds of fighters traveled from, France, Holland, Belgium, Germany and the UK to join the ranks of jihadis fighting for Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL). Comparatively, far fewer traveled from the United States. Why?

One explanation is that the U.S.’ model of citizenship is more inclusive than that of European countries. In contrast to ancient powers predicated on shared ethnic and religious histories, the United States offers a something very different: apart from formality of citizenship, anyone can become accepted as an “American” by accepting American values — freedom of speech, belief in the individual’s ability to change their own status and a commitment to personal liberty. Accept these values, America says, and you can be one of us. No matter who you were yesterday, today and tomorrow you can be whoever you want to be.

This foundational premise of America as the land of freedom and opportunity is conducive to integration of immigrants. America doesn’t ask new immigrants to give up their faith or their heritage, it simply asks for an additional commitment to something that can be understood universally.

By contrast, European nationalisms talk about history, ethnicity and faith. These concepts, while powerful and at times positive, can create very exclusionary narratives of nationhood that alienate rather than include new immigrants.

Despite America’s checkered past of racial justice and, recent attempts by European to be tolerant, the national narrative of what it means to be part of the nation is radically different in the United States compared to Europe.

Perhaps this difference can partially explain why America’s Muslims are the most integrated in the world and why, despite state-sponsored policies of multiculturalism, Europe continues to send jihadis to fight for ISIS.

Speaking about the failure of the multiculturalist model in the UK, analyst Sam Westrop writes, “British multiculturalism has encouraged British society to exist as a federation of communities in which each minority community was not required to adopt the values of the majority.”

This segregation of ethnic groups found in European societies also provided the opening for well-funded Islamist countries like Saudi Arabia, to create tremendous inroads into the Muslim communities – through funding mosques, community organizations and the like.

In the name of diversity, Westrop notes, the British government, ironically, encouraged this segregation. The process was further cemented by “offer[ing] taxpayer funds and political legitimacy to anyone who claimed to represent a community.”

Those “community representatives” were inevitably the political activists, funded, in turn, by the extremists.

Former Islamist extremist Ed Husain explains further, “Many Muslims want to live apart from mainstream British society; official government policy has helped them do so. I grew up without any white friends. My school was almost entirely Muslim.

“I had almost no direct experience of ‘British life’ or ‘British institutions.’ So it was easy for the extremists to say to me: ‘You see? You’re not part of British society. You never will be. You can only be part of an Islamic society.’ The first part of what they said was true. I wasn’t part of British society: nothing in my life overlapped with it.”

Writing about the multiculturalist model, Kenan Malik, a British writer of Asian background comments, “Where once [it was] argued that everyone should be treated equally, despite their radical, ethnic, religious or cultural differences, now it pushed the idea that different people should be treated differently because of such differences.”

In the words of Amartya Sen, an Indian economist, “A British Muslim is not asked to act within the civil society or the political arena but as a Muslim. His British identity has to be mediated by his community.”

The contrast to the American ideal of a “melting pot” is striking. It is perhaps one of the most telling explanations of why, in terms of integration, American Muslims are way ahead of their European counterparts.

Tell us your ideas about what you or your community could do to be proactive to foster integration. Do you have a personal story about an integration and what that looked like? Do you think patriotism (as opposed to identity-based on religion) can help promote integration?”

UK Foreign Minister: UN Criticism of Israel’s Bombing of Hezbollah is Absurd
Mar 30, 2017
The UN Human Rights Council’s condemnation of Israel while ignoring real atrocities is “a profound absurdity,” UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson stated.

UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson condemned the United Nations Human Rights Council’s (UNHRC) criticism of Israel over its bombing of Hezbollah positions in the Golan Heights.

The Guardian reported Tuesday that Johnson told British Members of Parliament it was “absolutely preposterous” that there should be a motion condemning Israel’s policy in the Golan Heights, when “in that region of Syria we have seen the most appalling barbarity by the Assad regime.”

He called it a “profound absurdity.”

The UK mission to the UN in Geneva recently put the UN “on notice” for its anti-Israel bias, saying that if things do not change, “in the future we will adopt a policy of voting against all resolutions concerning Israel’s conduct.”

“Israel is a population of eight million in a world of seven billion. Yet since its foundation, the human rights council has adopted 135 country-specific resolutions; 68 of which [have been] against Israel. Justice is blind and impartial. This selective focus on Israel is neither. Israel is the only country permanently on the human rights council’s agenda,” the UK mission said in a statement.

The US, too, has threatened to withdraw from the UNHRC. American Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley stated this week that “the era of Israel bashing” at the UN is over.

Johnson also said he opposed state boycotts of goods produced in Judea and Samaria and the Golan Heights, saying the choice should be left to consumers.

Member of British Royal Family to Make First State Visit to Israel, Report Says
British Royal to Make First-Ever State Visit on 100th Balfour Anniversary
By JNS March 12, 2017 , 9:30 am
“Mercy and truth preserve the king; and his throne is upheld by mercy.” (Proverbs 20:28)
A member of the United Kingdom’s royal family is reportedly expected to visit Israel this year, marking the first time a British royal would make an official visit to the Jewish state.
The royal family has traditionally shunned Israeli invitations for official state visits, but members of the family have visited in a personal capacity and to attend dignitaries’ funerals.
While it’s unclear which British royal would visit Israel, it has been speculated it will likely be Charles, Prince of Wales and heir to the throne, who attended the funeral of the late Israeli President Shimon Peres last year in Jerusalem, The Independent reported. The report added that Queen Elizabeth would likely skip the trip due to her advanced age and health concerns.
Earlier this week, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin extended an invitation to the British royal family to visit Israel during his meeting with U.K. Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson in Jerusalem.
Rivlin proposed that the visit coincide with celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the 1917 Balfour Declaration, which established British support for the creation of a Jewish state in the Middle East.
“This is a very important year in the history of the relations between Israel and the United Kingdom,” Rivlin said.

JNS.org – A member of the United Kingdom’s royal family is reportedly expected to visit Israel this year, in what would be an historic first for the Jewish state.

It remains unclear which British royal will visit Israel, but it has been speculated that it will likely be Prince Charles of Wales, heir to the throne, who attended the funeral of the late Israeli President Shimon Peres last year in Jerusalem, The Independent reported. Hospital axes 450 jobs and builds HALAL KITCHEN for staff and patients
By Jonathan Curtis -March 10, 20170887
A cash-strapped hospital is planning to introduce a separate Halal kitchen to cater for Islamic patients and staff.

Bosses at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust proposed the move after coming under fire for not ensuring Halal meals were up to standard in one of their hospitals.

Chief executive Toby Lewis said a ‘lot of work’ had been done at Sandwell Hospital with local suppliers to improve meals.

But in a further step hospital chiefs are proposing to establish a new kitchen specifically to prepare Halal meals.

Former patients have said the move, which comes less than a year after 450 jobs were axed, is a ‘waste of funds’.

The trust said the cost of implementing a separate kitchen has not been worked out yet as plans are in the early stages.

Loraine Yarnold, 50, saw her mum Caroline Fellows pass away after 10 days in Sandwell Hospital in 2014.
She said she thinks the hospital should be focused on improving patient care.
She claims her mum was poorly cared for, and is still demanding answers as to how she died.
Ms Yarnold said: ‘The care my mum received was horrific.

‘One day when I went in she had bruises all over her. They said she fell out of bed, but that didn’t make any sense because she could hardly move.

‘I ended up leaving a camera to record what was going on. It was shocking.

The 50 year old said: ‘This kitchen would just be a diversion of resources they should not be doing. I don’t agree with it at all.

‘It’s a total waste of funds, when they could be spending it on care.

She added: ‘Their standards really need improving.’

A trust spokesman said: ‘We are still reviewing options around creating a separate halal kitchen and the best ways to provide a range of healthy halal options to patients and staff who want them.’

The hospital came under fire for creating 31 ‘gender neutral’ toilets on site just before Christmas, at a time when the government was promising to phase out mixed-sex wards.
However, in January, the chief executive said plans had been well received.

Sadiq Khan Lonon migrants

Sadiq Khan made an astonishing admission that his administration is preparing for 1.5 million new people to move to London.

During an event in Surrey, the Muslim Mayor of London, 46, was challenged by a member of the public to come clean over his plans to make the over populated city’s air cleaner.

But in his response he has admitted for the first time that the UK’s capital will see an influx of as many as another 1.5 million people.

More than five million people have moved to Britain in 10 years with immigration figures showing that more than 66 million people live in the country.

However there are a number of estimates that say the figures are much higher.

Mr Khan told hundreds of people in the audience: “Going forward we don’t allow London to have worse air than is currently and worse pollution.

“And so there is a couple of big things, that I wouldn’t mind your input.

“One is we are publishing an environment strategy and we need your input into making sure we fulfil my ambition for London to be the greatest city in the world.

“You better remember that our population is rising, it is currently 8.5m, by 2020 it will be 9 million by 2030 it will be 10 million.

“Actually our city is growing rather than shrinking like Paris we have got to make sure that we are savvy and we are green.

“The new London plan is being worked on.”

London is currently crippled by a lack of infrastructure while the Government is now paying illegal immigrants up to £2,000 each to go home.

Transport strikes and overcrowding on the bus, tram and train networks are crushing business.

But that didn’t stop the mayor telling the public that he’s ready and willing to accept uncontrolled migration to the city which is already suffering from a massive housing crisis.
Researchers are warning of a “perfect storm” as the NHS continues to be crippled by demand caused, in part, by uncontrolled migration.

ALMOST 50,000 people have signed a petition to remove Sadiq Khan as London mayor over his controversial Brexit stance.
PUBLISHED: 08:04, Sat, Feb 4, 2017 | UPDATED: 12:54, Sat, Feb 4, 2017
hey are angry at the Labour politician for wanting London to have a bespoke Brexit deal after Article 50 is triggered.
Mr Khan has urged the Government to give the capital "a voice at the table" during upcoming negotiations with Brussels.
And he wants to introduce special work visa for migrants coming to work in London.

But his position has angered Brexit supporters.

More than 47,000 have signed Matthew Lee's petition on Change.org calling for the Mayor to be removed.

He claims Mr Khan's comments are encouraging the growing movement for London to become independent from the UK.
Mr Lee said: "As the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan has a position of power in the capital.

"He should be discouraging any such action from those who wish to create London as an independent state.

"London is the capital city of the United Kingdom and not the European Union."

Child migrant guilty of raping boy, 5, after arriving in UK is handed rehabilitation order
A 15-year-old immigrant who raped a five-year-old boy in the victim's bathroom and said he would "break him into pieces" has been handed a rehabilitation order
The migrant who raped a boy was handed a rehabilitation order by the Derby Youth Court
The teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told the boy to perform a sex act on him just months after arriving in the UK from Europe to be with his father.

He threatened the five-year-old not to tell anyone and then started crying in a bedroom immediately after committing the rape.

The victim told his mum about the day after the attack in Derby on October 30 last year and the 15-year-old was arrested.

At Derbyshire Youth Court on Friday the 15-year-old admitted rape and was given a three-year youth rehabilitation order.

Sentencing, Judge Jonathan Bennett said: This was a very unpleasant offence against a young boy and experts will want to work with you to ensure this will never be repeated again.

"There are a number of troubling issues I have read about you in your background and if I was sentencing an adult for an offence as serious as this they would receive a very substantial period in prison.

"However, this does not apply to you as a youth and there are different guidelines for someone your age.

"You came to the UK not long before this offence took place.

"It is clear that one of the reasons you came to this country was because your mother was struggling to bring you up and you were reunited with your father who you have not had much contact with in the past."

Prosecutor Gordon Aspen said the teen and his victim were at the property when the offender ordered the victim to carry out a sex act on him.
Mr Aspen said: "The following day the victim told his mother what had happened when they were walking together in Normanton.

"He said immediately afterward the teenager said to him 'if you tell anyone I will break you into pieces'.

"He then said he saw the defendant in a bedroom crying. She sent a text message to the teenager's father telling him she was going to the police."

Both the offender and the victim were interviewed about the allegation, which the teen admitted had taken place.

In his interview through an interpreter, the rapist told officers: "I have been bad," and he admitted he carried out the rape on the young boy.

He was also handed a six-month curfew confining him to his home address in Normanton between 7pm and 6am each day for the first two months.

He was also handed a five-year sexual harm prevention order forbidding him to have unsupervised contact with anyone aged under 13 without their parent or guardian's consent.
He is forbidden from having unsupervised contact with anyone aged under 13
He was further handed a restraining order forbidding him from contacting his victim for five years.

His father was given a 12-month parenting order to assist him as he brings the boy up.

Alwyn Jones, defending, said: "I hope this will address the underlying issues this young man has."

Somalian immigrant convicted of rape claims it is his HUMAN RIGHT to stay in UK

HOME Secretary Theresa May has won the latest round of a human rights fight with a Somalian immigrant she wants to deport because he was convicted of rape.

Theresa May has won the latest round of a human rights fight with a Somalian immigrant, not pictured
Abdulkadir Ahmed Said, 32, said he would probably end up in a makeshift refugee camp and find himself destitute if forced to return to Somalia.

He said if that happened his right to protection from "inhuman or degrading treatment" - enshrined in Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights - would be violated.

A specialist immigration judge had ruled in Said's favour but three Court of Appeal judges have overturned that decision and backed Mrs May.

They ruled on Friday that deportation would not breach Said's human rights after analysing the case at a hearing in London in April.

One appeal judge, Lord Justice Burnett, outlined the background to the case in a written ruling.

Said had lived in the UK for around 20 years and had been given indefinite leave to remain in 2003, said the judge.

In 2009, he had been convicted of two counts of rape - following a hearing at Blackfriars Crown Court - and given a five-year jail term.

Lord Justice Burnett said deportation proceedings had been launched to coincide with Said's release from prison.

Said had then challenged Mrs May's decision to deport and launched a human rights fight.

An immigration judge had ruled in Said's favour nearly two years ago - and Mrs May had appealed against that decision.

Lord Justice Burnett said Said might have difficulty integrating back into Somalian life.
But he said there was "no suggestion" that Said would be "precluded from working".

And he said deportation would not breach Article 3 of the convention.

The two other appeal judges who analysed the case - Lord Justice Christopher Clarke and Lady Justice Sharp - agreed.

Trial Underway in UK for Preachers Arrested for ‘Anti-Social’ Opposition to Islam, Homosexuality
By Heather Clark on February 24, 201725 Comments
Stockwell, Overd and Clark with a representative from Christian Concern

BRISTOL, UK — A trial is currently underway in the United Kingdom for three preachers who were arrested last July on accusations of “causing a disturbance” and engaging in “anti-social behavior” after some listeners became offended by their speech about issues such as Islam, Buddhism, homosexuality and divorce.
Michael Overd, Adrian Clark and Michael Stockwell appeared in Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and Friday as part of a four-day trial over accusations that they violated a section of the Crime and Disorder Act, which prohibits speech or behavior causing “intentional harassment, alarm or distress” that is “racially or religiously aggravated.”
Prosecutor Ian Jackson “told the court some of the statements made by the preachers may have been in the King James Bible, translated in 1611, but that did not mean they were acceptable in 2016,” according to the Daily Mail.
Video of the incident was played in court on Friday.
As previously reported, the men had been taking turns open air preaching outside of the Bristol shopping center on July 6, while others engaged passersby in conversation and/or held gospel signs.

organized by George Galloway ISIS suicide bomber joined other jihadists on a Gaza ‘aid’ convoy

Post  Admin on Sun 26 Feb 2017, 7:37 pm

ISIS suicide bomber joined other jihadists on a Gaza ‘aid’ convoy
A ‘British’ former Guantanamo detainee able to flee Britain and blow himself up for ISIS went with other jihadists on a convoy to Gaza organized by George Galloway before he was paid up to £1million by the Government, it was revealed today.
Jamal al-Harith had joined other terrorists including Alexe Kotey, 32, a member of the gang known as The Beatles led by executioner in chief Jihadi John.

Mancunian Al-Harith, who was born Ronald Fiddler and was 50 when he became a suicide bomber in Mosul, reportedly travelled with the first Viva Palestina convoy in 2009.

When asked about the claims last night, Galloway said: ‘I’ve never heard of him or knowingly set eyes on him before the recent press coverage.’
According to The Times Mancunian Al-Harith joined hundreds of Muslims from across Britain on a convoy of around 100 vehicles carrying ‘aid’ to Gaza in 2009.

Also with him was Kotey, a father-of-two and QPR fan who last month was named as a member of the ISIS ‘Beatles’ terror cell led by executioner-in-chief Jihadi John.

The 33-year-old from London was part of a group who beheaded around two dozen hostages, including Britons David Haines and Alan Henning.

Kotey, is reportedly alive and living in Raqqa, Syria, has had all his assets frozen and is believed to be on a US and British ‘kill list’ of most wanted terrorists

He was part of a team of British executioners was led by Londoner Mohammed Emwazi – Jihadi John – and was also responsible for the killing of American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff and US aid worker Peter Kassig.

Also on the Gaza convoy with them in 2009 was Pakistani-born British citizen Munir Farooqi, who was jailed for life two years later because he ran a market stall as a recruitment centre for terrorists to wage war on British troops.

He at the center of a plot to persuade vulnerable young men to ‘fight, kill and die’ in a jihad, or holy war, in Afghanistan and used extremist literature and films to convert an estate agent, a former British soldier and members of a local criminal gang to Islam.

In 2011 Farooqi received four life sentences at Manchester Crown Court

Last night a political blame game erupted over the alleged £1million paid to a British Guantanamo Bay detainee unmasked as an ISIS suicide bomber.

Ronald Fiddler was handed taxpayer-funded compensation after claiming MI6 agents were complicit in his mistreatment by the Americans.

Despite lobbying by Tony Blair’s government for his release, the former web designer from Manchester this week carried out a suicide bombing in Iraq.

Fiddler’s family last night issued a statement saying he had not received as much as £1million.

But former terror laws watchdog Lord Carlile declared that he was an ‘enemy of the state’ and ‘plainly a terrorist’ who should never have been given a penny.

Blair – who was PM when Fiddler was released – pointed the finger at the Conservatives for agreeing the compensation in 2010, when Theresa May was Home Secretary, but others said the payout was set in train by Labour before it lost power. Downing Street refused to discuss May’s role, saying it was ‘an intelligence matter’.

Muslim convert Fiddler, 50, was released from Guantanamo in 2004 after intense pressure from the Labour government.

On his return to the UK, he and other British former inmates launched a legal action over their alleged mistreatment.

To avoid an embarrassing court battle, which could have revealed British complicity in rendition and torture, ministers agreed to pay millions to settle the claims.

Chris Phillips, the former head of the National Counter Terrorism Security Office, said some of Fiddler’s share ‘has almost certainly’ gone to fund ISIS.

Fiddler, who adopted the Muslim name Jamal Al-Harith, appeared grinning in an ISIS video as he drove his explosives-laden car towards a target in Mosul.

UK Terror Mosque wins libel payout from Reuters
By Pamela Geller - on February 1, 2017
Litigation jihad.

Here is yet another reason the mainstream media is reluctant to report on jihad and jihad-terror activity and connections.

Finsbury Park Mosque in north London was once the domain of hook-handed imam Abu Hamza, whose extremist sermons inspired attendees including 9/11 co-conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui, failed American Airlines “shoe bomber” Richard Reid and London subway suicide bomber Mohammed Sidique Khan.

The “suicide factory” — as one book called it — was also visited by Djamel Beghal, the Islamist “sorcerer” and jail inmate accused of bringing together those responsible for the Charlie Hebdo massacre and related attacks in Paris.

An informer for Britain’s intelligence agency MI5 called it “an al-Qaeda camp in the heart of London.” (NBC News)
The mosque now says that it is new and improved, and we are supposed to just take it at its word. The court obviously did.

An international news agency has agreed to pay damages to a mosque it wrongly claimed was linked to terrorism.Thomson Reuters, which provides material to media, financial and other institutions, agreed to pay damages to Finsbury Park Mosque in north London.

It admitted publishing a profile based on outdated reports on its global database – which caused banks to refuse to accept the mosque as a customer.

The firm expressed its “regret” at the High Court earlier.

Finsbury Park mosque was run by Abu Hamza, who was later convicted of terrorism offences in the United States, until 2005.

The company which took over had its account with HSBC closed in June 2014, after the Reuters report was published.

In a letter, HSBC said: “The provision of banking services… now falls outside of our risk appetite”.

Following the allegations made by Thomson Reuters, numerous other banks refused to accept the mosque as a customer.

Sara Monsoori, representing the company which now runs the mosque, told the High Court the Thomson Reuters’ subscription-only service publishes profiles which also go to subscribers including regulatory bodies and law enforcement agencies.

The mosque’s management company was unaware of the profile report until it was drawn to its attention by the BBC a year after its bank account was closed on 20 June 2015.

She said the mosque was the subject of profile reports which placed it in the “terrorism” category.

“This was wrong,” Ms Monsoori told deputy High Court judge Richard Parkes QC.

“The profile referred to press reports and allegations from many years ago, long before the mosque was reorganised and the claimant company was established.”

Thomson Reuters admitted its report “made the false allegation that there were grounds to suspect that the claimant had continued connections to terrorism”.

It said those allegations had now been withdrawn.

Thomson Reuters agreed to pay damages and the mosque company’s legal costs.

Finsbury Park Mosque said in a statement: “It is unacceptable that any organisation is able to designate people as terrorists on the basis of poor research and for those people to be labelled without any recourse to truth or justice.”

Thanks to terror fears the ceremony will not take place every day, while the Saturday tradition is canceled at Windsor Palace.
Mon, January 30, 2017
The famous changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace in London has undergone changes because of fears it could be targeted for terrorism. Meanwhile, the similar Saturday ceremony at nearby Windsor Castle was canceled indefinitely.
The decisions were taken after recent terror strikes in Europe such as the truck attacks in Nice and Berlin last year.
Armed police officers now accompany the ceremony at Buckingham Palace, while checkpoints surround the area. The spectacle only takes place at Buckingham Palace on specific days rather than alternate days as was the custom for decades. It was also moved half an hour earlier so as not to clash with the extra traffic at lunchtime.
And just in case there isn't a ceremony next time you're in London here's a reminder:

Brits Called to Learn Language of Immigrants to Help Them Feel Better: Scholar

A U.K. professor is calling on her British citizens to take up and learn the languages of Urdu, Polish and Punjabi in order to make it more comfortable and easy for incoming immigrants who don’t speak English.

Isn’t this a bit backward? Normally, those entering a country are required to acclimate with the citizenry, not the other way around.

But now, it’s the citizens who are being asked to learn the language of immigrants. Go figure.

A scholar in the United Kingdom says citizens ought to learn the language of immigrants in order to help them feel more comfortable and welcome.
The Express has the story:

“Many more English speakers should think of immigration as a ‘two-way street’ and be able to communicate in another language to aid integration and social cohesion, said academic Wendy Ayres-Bennett.”

“The call folows two major reports into integration in British society which called on immigrants to learn English if they want to live in the UK.

“And today it was described as a ‘retrograde step’.

“Stewart Jackson, whose Peterborough constituency has suffered from the impact of high immigration, said: ‘It’s important that new migrants integrate into British society and support British values and that means – for their own self interest and the good of society – learning and speaking and reading English.

“‘This demand flies in the face of government policy and good community relations and would be a retrograde step.’

“Prof Ayres-Bennett, head of French philology and linguistics at the University of Cambridge and leader of the MEITS project promoting multi-lingualism, said: ‘It is very important to think of integration as a two-way street.

“‘I would like to see more opportunities for British people to learn some of the community languages of the UK, such as Polish, Punjabi and Urdu, particularly in areas where there are high numbers of those speakers, so that there is some mutual effort in understanding the others’ language and culture.

“‘Even a basic knowledge would be beneficial, which might be acquired formally or through engaging in joint community projects.

“‘Considering the issue from the point of view of language learning, we rightly expect immigrants to learn English but, as a nation, we often don’t see the need ourselves to learn another language, and consider it to be something difficult and only for the intellectual elite.'”

Vote to Annex Huge Judean City on Sunday
By JNI Media January 19, 2017 , 1:30 pm
“For God will save Tzion, and build the cities of Yehuda; and they shall abide there, and have it in possession.” Psalms 69:36 (The Israel Bible™)

Ma’ale Adumim (RonAlmog/Flickr)
On Sunday, the Israeli government ministerial committee on legislation, chaired by Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked (Habayit Hayehudi), will debate a proposed bill applying Israeli civil law in the city of Ma’ale Adumim, located roughly four miles east of Jerusalem. The location of both Ma’ale Adumin and Jerusalem, at the narrow center of the peanut shaped Judea and Samaria, would certainly threaten any realistic effort in the future to establish a contiguous Palestinian state. The 4.6 square mile area between the two Jewish cities, designated as the E-1 zone, is within the municipal boundary of Ma’ale Adumim, but it is also home to a few Bedouin communities and their livestock, and the location of a large Israeli police compound.

Painfully aware of the crucial strategic value of E-1, in 2013 the Palestinian Authority established for a few days the illegal tent site of Bab al Shams within this zone, which was demolished by order of the Supreme Court.

The ministerial debate and, presumably, vote, will take place two days into the new Trump Administration, and, at least according to Ha’aretz, it was planned that way to avoid yet another bitter clash with Trump’s predecessor. Indeed, because of hostile reactions from two US Administrations, every plan for the expansion of Ma’ale Adumim westward has been frozen since 2005.

image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/useful_banner_manager_banners/444-BIN-Subscribe-JudeaSamaria-600WIDE.jpg

Ha’aretz cites a senior source inside Likud saying Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will continue with this policy and delay the ministerial vote on bringing the first Jewish community in the liberated territories under Israeli law. This, according to the source, is not because the PM objects to the idea of annexing Ma’ale Adumim, but because he is wary of offending the new president by taking for granted his approval to such a sea change.

MK Yoav Kisch (Likud) said he is willing to compromise and has reduced the bill to just proclaiming Ma’ale Adumim part of Israel, leaving E-1 out of the plan for now. This will create the first Israeli extra-territorial territory since the years before the 1967 war, when Mount Scopus was an isolated Israeli territory inside the Jordanian-ruled “west bank.”

Kisch believes the vast majority of Israelis want to see Ma’ale Adumim be united with the Jewish State, after 49 years of living under IDF martial law. If approved Sunday, the bill could be submitted for a preliminary Knesset plenum vote next week.

Trump on Jerusalem Embassy Move:
I Don’t Break Promises
Trump Doubles Down on Jerusalem Embassy Promise; City’s Mayor Welcomes Him With Open Arms
By Valerie Locke January 19, 2017 , 11:30 am
“At that time they shall call Yerushalayim the throne of Hashem; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of Hashem, to Yerushalayim; neither shall they walk any more after the stubbornness of their evil heart.” Jeremiah 3:17 (The Israel Bible™)

image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/barkat-trump-final.png

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat (L) and Donald Trump. (Breaking Israel News)
President-elect Donald Trump reassured supporters on Tuesday that he does not intend to go back on his campaign promise to move the American embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, saying, “You know that I am not a person who breaks promises.”

Speaking from the Chairman’s Global Dinner in Washington DC, Trump said that he “clearly did not forget” his guarantee to move the embassy, an act which has come to represent Trump’s pro-Israel stance and enjoys wide bipartisan support from Congress.

While a number of past presidents have promised to make the momentous move while campaigning, none have ever followed through, wary of stirring tensions in a city which both Israelis and Palestinians claim as their capital. Trump, however, remained adamant throughout the race that upon taking office, he would “move the American embassy to the eternal capital of the Jewish people, Jerusalem.”

He has appointed as ambassador to Israel right-winger David Friedman, who has said he is “eager to begin work from the US embassy” in Jerusalem.

Until now, the US has been unwilling to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel for fear of angering Palestinians. In fact, many American officials – including President Barack Obama – have refused to even acknowledge that Jerusalem is physically located in Israel.

image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/useful_banner_manager_banners/411-Jerusalem-1260WIDE.jpg

Trump’s pro-Jerusalem sentiments have been cheered by Israeli politicians across the spectrum, including the capital’s mayor Nir Barkat, who launched a campaign on Thursday to show support for Trump from the holy city.

“This week Donald Trump will enter the White House as president. Let’s together welcome him as a friend and thank him for his intention to move the US embassy to Jerusalem,” urged Barkat in a video filmed from his office in Jerusalem.

Barkat also suggested a quick and easy way to move the embassy with very little fuss. “You can move the embassy in one morning by a small change: Take the plaque of the consulate [in Jerusalem] and replace it with one that says ’embassy’,” he proposed to Israel Radio on Wednesday.

“That can be done in five minutes, and afterwards you can move the ambassador and then move the rest of the staff and services.”

Such a move would “change the whole dynamic around Jerusalem and Israel,” Barkat said.

He criticized outgoing President Obama’s attitude towards Israel, saying that for “eight challenging years” Jerusalem has had to deal with “demands for building freezes, surrenders to radical Islam, surrenders to the Iranians.

“I hope that we are at the beginning of a new era of eight good years,” he concluded.

UK lawmakers slam Trump, but most oppose banning him
2016-01-18 | Jill Lawless, Fox Carolina

Donald Trump doesn't have many fans in Britain's Parliament. But a debate among lawmakers on calls to ban Trump from the country revealed little appetite to close Britain's doors to the provocative Republican U.S. presidential contender.

During a three-hour debate Monday, legislators from Britain's main parties stood to call Trump an attention-seeker, a demagogue and a fool. Many, though, argued that he should not be stifled or banned.

"While I think this man is crazy, while I think this man has no valid points to make, I will not be the one to silence his voice," said Conservative lawmaker Tom Tugendhat.

Parliament took up the topic after half a million people signed a petition calling for Trump to be excluded over his call for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States in the wake of extremist violence. Trump has also claimed that some areas of Britain are so radicalized that police fear for their lives.

Under British law, any petition supported by 100,000 people - who must each provide and confirm an email address - is considered for parliamentary debate. Monday's debate was intended to air the subject rather than take a vote.

Labour Party legislator Paul Flynn, who opened the session, said Trump had already received "far too much attention."

"The great danger by attacking this one man is that we can fix on him a halo of victimhood" and boost his popularity among supporters, Flynn said.

But another Labour lawmaker, Tulip Siddiq, supported a ban.

"This is a man who is extremely high-profile, ... a man who is interviewing for the most important job in the world," she said. "His words are not comical, his words are not funny. His words are poisonous."

Prime Minister David Cameron has condemned Trump's remarks about Muslims as "divisive, stupid and wrong," but he and other senior officials have said they do not think Trump should be banned.

The government has the power to deny entry to people with criminal convictions or those whose presence is considered not "conducive to the public good." The power has been used against figures as diverse as boxer Mike Tyson, rapper Tyler the Creator, radical Muslim preachers and the late Christian fundamentalist Fred Phelps Sr.

National Grid sells majority stake in UK gas infrastructure to Chinese and Qatari state investors
The network supplies 11 million homes with energy through 82,000 miles of pipeline – its sale will reignite concerns over foreign ownership of critical infrastructure.
National Grid has agreed to sell a majority stake in the UK’s gas pipe network to a team of investors, including the Chinese and Qatari states.
The UK's power network operator confirmed it is offloading the 61 per cent shareholding to a consortium led by Australian investment bank Macquarie in a deal that values the unit at around £13.8bn.
The division controls an important part of the country's infrastructure, which delivers gas to 11 million homes through 82,000 miles of pipeline, and its sale will reignite concerns about the ownership of critical national assets by foreign investors.
In August Theresa May said such deals would face tighter regulation as she gave the green light to the French and Chinese-funded Hinkley Point nuclear reactor.
National Grid said it would distribute a £150m voluntary payment to benefit British energy customers, while some £4bn of the proceeds will be returned to the company’s shareholders.
It will keep 31 per cent of the business but said it could potentially sell another 14 per cent stake to the consortium under the terms of the deal
The sale, which is set to complete before the end of March next year, comes as part of a move to rebalance National Grid's business towards higher growth areas and create extra value for shareholders.
Dave Prentis, Unison union general secretary, said: “The experience of Thames Water customers when Macquarie was running the show should have been a red flag to ministers and regulators as how unsuitable this company is to be in charge of the UK's gas supply..
Hinkley Point nuclear power station gets the green light
”Macquarie has poor form already – in building up huge company debt, repatriating massive dividends to the southern hemisphere and charging customers more for a much poorer service.

Business picture of the day
“The company has already proved it can’t be trusted with the nation’s water supply, but now it is to be in charge of gas pipes to millions of homes and businesses.
“The Government has said it wants to invest in UK infrastructure, yet these are not terribly encouraging first steps. It suggests ministers have not given much thought to an industrial strategy, not do they seem to have much desire to retain key parts of the nation’s infrastructure in UK hands.”
John Pettigrew, chief executive of National Grid, said the deal “represents an important milestone in the evolution of National Grid and is a good outcome for our customers, employees, and shareholders”.

UK: Police Chief Inspector fired for sharing posts calling for Sharia law ban and saying Muslims should be loyal to UK
By Pamela Geller - on January 15, 2017
“Steven Drew, of Avon and Somerset Constabulary’s specials, shared posts telling people who don’t stand for the national anthem to ‘go back to the country you came from’.”
They shouldn’t?

“One picture he shared was captioned: ‘Isn’t it weird in Britain our flag offends so many people but our benefits don’t.'”

It isn’t?

Why is it “racist” to say that immigrants should be loyal to the land they’re coming to? What race is jihad and Islamic supremacism again? Islam is not a race. The British authorities are in full surrender mode. If there isn’t drastic change in the British government, Britain won’t last long.

“Police special sacked after sharing racist Facebook posts and liking ‘Ban Islam’ group,” by Lewis Pennock, Mirror, December 9, 2016 (thanks to M.):

A Chief Inspector who shared ‘explicitly racist’ Facebook posts and ‘liked’ groups calling for Islam to be banned has been sacked.

Steven Drew, of Avon and Somerset Constabulary’s specials, shared posts telling people who don’t stand for the national anthem to ‘go back to the country you came from’.

One picture he shared was captioned: “Isn’t it weird in Britain our flag offends so many people but our benefits don’t.”

Drew also liked a page called “Ban Islam and Sharia Law” and a page for the far-right political party Britain First, reported the Bristol Post.

A police misconduct hearing on Thursday, December 8 sacked Drew after deciding his behaviour was inappropriate, discriminatory and brought discredit on the force.

Speaking at the hearing, barrister Robert Talalay said Drew’s actions amounted to being ‘explicitly racist’.

But Drew, who has volunteered in the police for 20 years, told the panel he is ‘rubbish’ at Facebook and didn’t intend to come across racist.

“It makes me look an idiot,” he said. “It does make me look racist but that was never my intention.”

One picture shared by Drew showed a crowd at a sports event, thought to be in the United States, standing for the national anthem.

A woman, wearing a headscarf, was remained seated in the picture, which was captioned: “If you can’t stand for the national anthem go back to the country you came from.”

Drew said: “I probably didn’t even read the full caption, if I see stand for the national anthem I will share that.”

He said he is “really against people who can’t stand for the national anthem”, adding that he shares post if he looks at them and thinks ‘I agree with that’.

Drew claimed he only liked the page Ban Islam and Sharia Law because he thinks Sharia Law should be banned, but that he didn’t agree with banning Islam.

“It was just the second bit I liked,” he told the panel, led by independent chairman Alex Lock.

“I quickly looked and thought yes I agree with that.”

He also shared another post of a union jack which was captioned ‘Isn’t it weird in Britain our flag offends so many people but our benefits don’t’.

Another post showed a cartoon of school pupil complaining to a teacher that they were being bullied ‘because I’m British’.

Drew’s other ‘innocuous’ likes included Dad’s Army, Del Boy Trotter and Vladimir Putin.

He was represented at the hearing by Mark Loker, from the Police Federation.

Mr Loker said some of the content was ‘abhorrent’, but that the post about the child being bullied was ‘clearly intended as a joke’.

“He’s accepted what he’s done is wrong but he’s never intended to cause any offence,” he said.

Mr Loker said Drew “is not racist in any way, shape or form” but was “naïve”….

The Islamization of Britain in 2016
By Soeren Kern
January 6. A House of Commons briefing paper on polygamy revealed that recent reforms to the social security system would allow migrants in polygamous marriages to claim additional benefits payments.

Sharia courts administering Islamic justice in Britain are run by clerics who believe some offenders should have their hands chopped off, according to Muslim scholar Elham Manea. She described the prevailing attitude as “totalitarian” and as more backward than some parts of Pakistan.

Teaching children fundamental British values is an act of “cultural supremacism,” according to the National Union of Teachers, which wants to replace the concept with one that includes “international rights.”

More than 100,000 British Muslims sympathize with suicide bombers and people who commit other terrorist acts, according to a 615-page survey. Only one in three British Muslims (34%) would contact the police if they believed that somebody close to them had become involved with radical Islam. In addition, 23% of British Muslims said Islamic Sharia law should replace British law in areas with large Muslim populations.

Belmarsh maximum-security prison in London has become “like a jihadi training camp,” according to testimony from a former inmate. The government was accused of burying a report on prison extremism. The report warned that staff have been reluctant to tackle Islamist behavior for fear of being labelled “racist.”

Residents in Manchester received leaflets in their mailboxes, from a Muslim group called “Public Purity,” calling for a public ban on dogs.

Voter fraud has been deliberately overlooked in Muslim communities because of “political correctness,” according to a government report.

Police in Telford — dubbed the child sex capital of Britain — were accused of covering up allegations that hundreds of children in the town were sexually exploited by Pakistani sex gangs.

The Muslim population of Britain surpassed 3.5 million in 2016 to become around 5.5% of the overall population of 64 million, according to figures extrapolated from a recent study on the growth of the Muslim population in Europe. In real terms, Britain has the third-largest Muslim population in the European Union, after France, then Germany.

The growth of Britain’s Muslim population can be attributed to immigration, high birth rates and conversions to Islam.

Islam and Islam-related issues, omnipresent in Britain during 2016, can be categorized into five broad themes: 1) Islamic extremism and the security implications of British jihadists in Syria and Iraq; 2) the continuing spread of Islamic Sharia law in Britain; 3) the sexual exploitation of British children by Muslim gangs; 4) Muslim integration into British society; and 5) the failures of British multiculturalism.

January 3. A jihadist with a London accent appeared in an Islamic State propaganda video after the group executed five men accused of spying for the UK. The masked gunman warned Prime Minister David Cameron that the West could never defeat the Islamic State. The video also showed a young boy, aged around four and with a British accent, threatening to kill non-Muslims.

January 4. British officials traveled to Sudan to stanch the flow of UK-born medics joining the Islamic State. More than a dozen British doctors studying at Sudan’s University of Medical Sciences and Technology (UMST) have joined the Islamic State to treat jihadists in Syria. Parents said they had sent their children to study in Sudan to reconnect them with their African and Islamic roots before returning to practice medicine in Britain.

January 4. The Jamiatul Ummah School in Tower Hamlets, East London, failed an inspection when investigators from Ofsted, the official agency that regulates British schools, found extremist material in its library, including books that call for stoning women.

January 5. Pastor James McConnell, a 78-year-old pastor from Belfast, was cleared of charges that he violated the Communications Act 2003 when, in a sermon broadcast on the internet, he described Islam as “heathen,” “Satanic” and “a doctrine spawned in hell.” Judge Liam McNally said: “The courts need to be very careful not to criticize speech which, however contemptible, is no more than offensive. It is not the task of the criminal law to censor offensive utterances.”

January 6. A man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of terrorism after attempting to board a UK-bound flight with fake Belgian passports. The pair, understood to be brother and sister, were arrested at Cristoforo Colombo Airport in Genoa, Italy, while trying to board the flight. Fears were raised that the pair, who claimed to be Syrian refugees, might be jihadis after police found violent images on their smartphones.

January 6. A House of Commons briefing paper on polygamy revealed that recent reforms to the social security system would allow migrants in polygamous marriages to claim additional benefits payments. Although polygamy is illegal in Britain, some 300,000 people are believed to be living in such unions in the country.

January 6. The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), which represents examination boards in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, reached an agreement with Muslim groups to reschedule crucial exams during the next three years to avoid clashing with Ramadan, when observant Muslim pupils would be expected to fast.

January 8. A Muslim woman who claimed she was assaulted in downtown Birmingham for wearing a hijab days after the Paris attacks was fined after video footage proved she fabricated her story.

January 8. Islamic extremists were allowed to tour British universities unchallenged, even though universities and colleges are legally required to prevent extremists radicalizing students on campus, according to the Daily Mail.

January 9. The Criminal Cases Review Commission, an official government body, was found to be helping asylum seekers overturn their convictions for illegal entry to Britain in order to allow them to receive refugee status and remain in the UK. MPs said the practice could “undermine deterrence” and lead to thousands more illegal arrivals.

January 15. London Police released video footage of a hijab-clad woman who tried to stab a 15-year-old boy on a bus in Lambeth.

January 16. Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond revealed that some 1,500 Britons tried to join the Islamic State since 2012. An estimated 800 people, mostly jihadists and family members, successfully entered Syria; roughly half are still there. Another 600 were stopped, either as they tried to leave Britain, or after arriving in Turkey.

January 18. Prime Minister David Cameron announced a plan to invest £20 million (€33 million; $28 million) in English classes for Muslim women to reduce the risk of extremism. He said migrants to Britain who cannot pass an English test within 2-1/2 years of arriving may not be allowed to stay. British Muslim groups accused Cameron of demonizing their communities.

January 19. Muhammad Shamsuddin, a 39-year-old London-based Islamist, was featured in a new documentary called “The Jihadis Next Door.” Shamsuddin, a divorced father of five who lives on state handouts and claims he cannot work because he has “chronic fatigue syndrome,” was filmed preaching hate against non-Muslims on British streets.

January 19. The government launched a new website, “Educate against Hate,” aimed at helping schools and parents to tackle the “spell of twisted ideologies.”

January 22. The Bishop of London, Richard Chartres, called on British clergymen to grow beards to reach out to Muslims in their areas.

January 24. Behar Kasemi, a 42-year-old refugee from Kosovo, was jailed for four weeks after he threatened to cut out his wife’s heart because she had become “too English.” He told police: “In my country it is for the women to obey their husbands and look after the children.”

January 25. One in five prisoners in Britain’s top-security prisons are Muslim. The eight Category A prisons contain 5,885 highly dangerous inmates and 1,229 — 20.8% — are Muslim. By comparison, 5.5% of the overall UK population is Muslim.

January 25. The Royal Air Force foiled a jihadist plot by two commercial airline pilots to bomb four British cities. The pilots, who were leaving Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport for a Middle Eastern country, were heard discussing attacks on London, Bath, Brighton and Ipswich. They were using the emergency “Mayday” channel in the belief they were not being monitored.

January 29. A judge in New York sentenced Mahdi Hashi, a 26-year-old Somali-born British citizen, to nine years in prison for joining al-Shabaab, a jihadist group based in East Africa. Hashi, who grew up in London, first came to Britain as a six-year-old when his family fled the civil war in Somalia. His British citizenship was revoked in July 2012 due to his “extremist activities.” He was later deported to the United States.

January 29. Ibrahim Anderson, 38, a convert to Islam, and Shah Jahan Khan, 63, were sentenced to a total of five years in prison for promoting the Islamic State on London’s Oxford Street.

January 30. Three Somalis who gang-raped a 16-year-old girl after luring her into a hotel bathroom in Manchester were sentenced to a total of 29 years in prison. The men, who showed no remorse for their actions, were said to be living according to the laws of Somalia, not Britain.

February 8. In a speech on prison reform, David Cameron said the government is considering placing all convicted Islamist terrorist prisoners in England and Wales in a single secure unit in order to prevent them from recruiting other prisoners.

February 16. A man in Scotland was arrested for posting a series of “offensive comments” about Syria refugees on Facebook. Twelve Syrian families arrived on the remote Scottish island of Bute as part of the Home Office’s Syrian Vulnerable Person Resettlement program.

February 16. Shabir Ahmed, the 63-year-old leader of a Rochdale child sex grooming gang, cited human rights laws as he launched an appeal against deportation from Britain. Ahmed —described by a judge as a “violent hypocritical bully” — wrote to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) claiming that his convictions for child sex offenses were a conspiracy to “scapegoat” Muslims.

February 17. At least 21 illegal Islamic schools were placed under investigation over fears of radicalization. Inspectors from Ofsted, the school’s regulator, found that the institutions were teaching “hate-filled, misogynistic, homophobic and anti-Semitic material.”

February 28. Sharia courts administering Islamic justice in Britain are run by clerics who believe some offenders should have their hands chopped off, according to Muslim scholar Elham Manea. She said that some clerics also believe girls can be married at the age of 12. She described the prevailing attitude as “totalitarian” and as more backward than some parts of Pakistan.

February 29. Girls in Britain as young as 11 are being forced into marriage via the internet while others are being secretly wed over the phone. Imams in Britain and abroad have been conducting ceremonies using Skype to marry British girls remotely to men abroad. The new husband is often promised that he will get a visa to come to Britain.

MARCH 2016

March 4. Ali Abdullahi, a 34-year-old migrant from Somalia who sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl at a train station in Torquay, told the Exeter Crown Court that the crime was a misunderstanding caused by “cultural differences.”

March 9. London is more “Islamic” than much of the Muslim world, according to Maulana Syed Ali Raza Rizvi, a prominent Shia cleric who was born in Pakistan. “I feel that London has more Islamic values than many of the Muslim countries put together,” he said.

March 9. An eight-year-old girl was taken into protective custody after a man and a woman were arrested at Heathrow Airport in connection with alleged female genital mutilation offenses. The girl was believed to have been taken Somalia to carry out FGM overseas.

March 11. Staff at a nursery in Luton referred a four-year-old boy to a de-radicalization program after the child drew an image of a man with a large chopping knife. Teachers said they believed he was saying “cooker bomb” instead of “cucumber.”

March 15. The Islamic Society at the London School of Economics held a gala dinner where men and women were segregated by a seven-foot screen so that attendees could not look at one another.

March 15. The Muslim Women’s Council in Bradford announced plans to build Britain’s first female-led mosque.

March 16. The High Court ruled that an 18-year-old girl who was born and raised in London and who ran away from home because her parents “were not strict enough Muslims” should be provided with government housing and a wide range of financial assistance until she turns 21.

March 17. A family court in London ruled that four children must be immunized after their Muslim mother refused consent because she said the vaccines contained pork gelatin.

March 20: A total of 3,955 people were referred to the Channel program, the British government’s de-radicalization scheme, in 2015, nearly triple the figure (1,681) in 2014.

March 28. Teaching children fundamental British values is an act of “cultural supremacism,” according to the National Union of Teachers (NUT), which wants to replace the concept with one that includes “international rights.”

March 31. The Islamic Tarbiyah Academy, a private Muslim school in Yorkshire, was accused of promoting Islamic extremism. The founder of the school, Mufti Zubair Dudha, belongs to the orthodox Deobandi sect, which is thought to control half of all mosques and madrasas in the UK. Dudha has warned Muslims not to adopt British customs, and told them they should be prepared to “expend … even life” to create a world organized “according to Allah’s just order.”

APRIL 2016

April 1. The first gym in Wales exclusively for Muslim women opened in Cardiff.

image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/useful_banner_manager_banners/412-SupportTerrorVictims-600WIDE.jpg

April 3. About 1,000 Muslim prisoners are at risk of being radicalized in British jails as part of “terrorist academies,” according to Lord Falconer, the shadow justice secretary.

April 4. Muslim extremists have turned part of the Gartree prison into a “no-go zone,” according to prison union leaders. They believe an entire block of the facility is being run under Sharia law.

April 13. A new study showed that a significant part of the British Muslim community is becoming a separate “nation within a nation.” The 615-page survey found that more than 100,000 British Muslims sympathize with suicide bombers. Only one in three British Muslims (34%) would contact the police if they believed that somebody close to them had become involved with jihadists. In addition, 23% of British Muslims said Islamic Sharia law should replace British law in areas with large Muslim populations.

April 18. Muslim preachers approved by the government are routinely distributing extremist literature in British prisons leaving hundreds of inmates at risk of radicalization, according to a leaked report.

April 22. Tarik Hassane and Suhaib Majeed, a pair of home-grown terrorists, were given life sentences for plotting to kill soldiers, police officers and civilians in a series of Islamic-State-inspired drive-by shootings. The judge said: “It is shocking, tragic and deplorable that you, two young British men, educated through the UK school system, undertaking university courses, should be so influenced by the bloodthirsty version of Islam presented by ISIS and other similarly minded groups.”

MAY 2016

May 1. Mubashir Jamil, a 21-year-old man from Luton, was arrested on suspicion of attempting to travel to Syria to engage in “violent jihad” with the Islamic State.

May 2. A senior British jihadi who boasted of recruiting hundreds of Britons for the Islamic State was killed in a drone strike in Syria. Raphael Hostey, also known as Abu Qaqa al-Britani, left Manchester to join the Islamic State in 2013. The 23-year-old graphic designer became a key recruiter of British fighters and jihadi brides for the group.

May 4. The “Department of Theology” of the Blackburn Muslim Association ruled that it is “not permissible” for a woman to travel more than 48 miles — deemed to be the equivalent of three days walk — without her husband or a close male relative. The group also ruled that men must grow beards and women must cover their faces. The rulings were accompanied by the catchphrase: “Allah knows best.”

May 7. Labour Party politician Sadiq Khan was sworn in as mayor of London. He is the first Muslim to lead a major European capital. During the election campaign, Khan faced a stream of allegations about his past dealings with Muslim extremists and anti-Semites. British politician Paul Weston warned that Khan’s rise is a harbinger of things to come:

“The previously unthinkable has become the present reality. A Muslim man with way too many extremist links to be entirely coincidental is now the Mayor of London. In a couple more decades Britain may well have its first Muslim Prime Minister. Reality cannot argue with demographics, so the realistic future for Britain is Islamic.”

May 7. Mohammed Shaheen, a 43-year-old father of seven, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for raping underage schoolgirls. Shaheen, an immigrant from Pakistan, insisted he was a devout Muslim who had been framed by his victims.

May 8. Britain’s biggest Muslim charity branded hundreds of buses around the country with an Arabic slogan proclaiming “glory to Allah.” Islamic Relief said the initiative was an attempt to “break down barriers” during Ramadan and portray Islam in a positive light.

May 8. Six Algerian terror suspects with links to al-Qaeda were allowed to stay in Britain after winning a protracted legal battle. The government ruled that there was a “real risk” the men would be tortured by the Algerian security services if they were deported. This would have violated the Human Rights Act.

May 9. A Muslim man who was found guilty of threatening to behead a candidate of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) had his sentence overturned on appeal. Aftab Ahmed, 45, had been found guilty of making threats to kill David Robinson-Young, but a Newcastle Crown Court judge said he believed that Ahmed did not intend to act on his threat.

May 10. The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) apologized for a counter-terrorism exercise in which a mock suicide bomber shouted “Allahu Akbar” (“Allah is the greatest”). Eight hundred volunteers took part in the drill to make it as realistic as possible. A local Muslim leader, Syed Azhar Shah, said it was “shocking to portray Muslims as terrorists” and accused the GMP of “institutional racism.”

May 10. The trial began of three Muslims who plotted to behead British citizens after being inspired by an Islamic State order “to kill civilians everywhere in the West.”

May 11. Prime Minister David Cameron apologized to Suliman Gani, a Muslim extremist, for saying he is a supporter of the Islamic State. Cameron said he was referring to reports that Gani supports “an” Islamic state rather than “the” Islamic State. The Muslim Council of Britain called for an “urgent review” of Islamophobia in the Conservative party.

May 15. The BBC’s religious output is too Christian, according to Aaqil Ahmed, the BBC’s head of religion and ethics. He argued that that Muslim, Hindu and Sikh faiths should get more airtime.

May 16. The government confirmed that Sharia-compliant student loans will be offered for the first time in Britain as part of an effort to boost the number of young Muslims applying to university. The new finance model complies with Sharia law, which forbids Muslims from taking out loans on which they would be charged interest.

May 17. One-third of Muslim adults in Britain do not feel “part of British culture,” according to a new report on British multiculturalism. Nearly half (47%) of Muslims consider their Islamic faith to be the most important part of their identity.

May 17. Belmarsh, a maximum-security prison in London, has become “like a jihadi training camp,” according to testimony from a former inmate. “The problem is that Belmarsh is also a holding prison and so young people who are brainwashed and indoctrinated then go out into the wider prison system and create wider Akhi [brotherhood] networks.” Muslims comprise 30% of inmates at Belmarsh.

May 17. Brusthom Ziamani, a 20-year-old Muslim convert who was arrested in East London for plotting to behead a British soldier, had his sentence reduced. Judges reviewing his case said that “given his youth” his sentence was “too long.”

May 18. Ofsted, the government agency responsible for regulating British schools, admitted that it failed properly to inspect the Zakaria Muslim Girls’ High School in Batley because the inspector was “prohibited” from talking to pupils or staff. The school is run by the Deobandis, a conservative Muslim sect that is said to shun non-Muslims.

May 18. The Queen’s Speech, setting out the government’s program for the next session of parliament, unveiled a controversial new counter-extremism bill that included powers to gag individuals and ban organizations deemed as extremist. The bill did not, however, include a definition of extremism. Critics said the proposals risked creating “thought police.”

May 18. Akmal Afzal, a 23-year-old Briton of Pakistani descent who was arrested at the 2012 London Olympics after giving police a false name, filed a lawsuit for discrimination. He claims he was arrested because he was an “Asian man with a beard.”

May 22. The government was accused of burying a report on prison extremism. The report warned that staff have been reluctant to tackle Islamist behavior for fear of being labelled “racist.”

May 23. El Shafee Elsheikh, 27, was identified as the fourth member of the Islamic State execution cell responsible for beheading 27 hostages. The four guards, led by “Jihadi John,” were nicknamed the “Beatles” because of their English accents. Elsheikh, who was granted asylum in Britain when he was seven, left for Syria after being radicalized at a London mosque.

May 23. A British Muslim woman was jailed after she tried to take her children to Syria. Lorna Moore, 34, failed to tell police that her husband was a jihadist with the Islamic State. She was planning to take her three young children, one of them 11 months old, to the war zone.

May 23. A survey conducted by ComRes on behalf of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK found that 33% of British adults believe that Islam promotes violence in the UK. The study also found that 56% of Britons disagree with the view that Islam is compatible with British values.

May 25. Police in West Yorkshire revealed that they were investigating 220 alleged cases of child sex grooming in Keighley and Bradford. The cases involve 261 suspects and 188 victims.

May 26. Home Secretary Theresa May established an independent review into the “misuse” of Sharia law in Britain. The review will not, however, examine whether Sharia law discriminates against women.

May 27. A British citizen who plotted to carry out a suicide bomb attack at Heathrow Airport was sentenced to 40 years in prison. Minh Quang Pham, 33, was sentenced in New York for travelling to Yemen to train with members of al-Qaeda. Pham, a Vietnamese born British convert to Islam, was extradited to the United States in February 2015.

May 29. Music festivals, sports venues and nightclubs were placed on “high alert” for potential jihadist attacks. Neil Basu of the Metropolitan Police warned: “These people are perfectly happy to target civilians with the maximum terror impact. Crowded places were always a concern for us, but now they are right at the top of the agenda.”

May 31. The trial began of Somalia-born Muhiddin Mire, 30, who tried to decapitate a random stranger in the London Underground. “This is for my Syrian brothers,” he yelled. “I am going to spill your blood.” Police found images on Mire’s cellphone of Islamic State hostages having their throats cut.

JUNE 2016

June 2. Aaqil Ahmed, the head of religion and ethics at the BBC, said Britons should admit the “uncomfortable” truth that Islamic State is made up of Muslims and their doctrine is Islamic: “I hear so many people say ISIS has nothing to do with Islam — of course it has. They are not preaching Judaism.”

June 2. A manual used by imams to teach prison inmates about Islam risks “turning people into jihadis,” Sheikh Musa Admani told the BBC. A section of the program on jihad said that taking up arms to fight “evil” is “one of the noblest acts.”

June 27. An article in the Economist magazine argued that some forms of female genital mutilation (FGM) should be allowed because “minor” forms of the practice might prevent girls from more extreme harm.

June 27. Shakeel Begg of the Lewisham Islamic Centre sued the BBC for libel over a broadcast which implied that he was a member of a “rogue’s gallery of extremists.” A lawyer for the BBC responded: “The basis for calling the claimant an extremist is short and simple. He has preached jihad as the greatest of deeds which in this context clearly means violence in the name of Islam.”

JULY 2016

July 1. A Muslim taxi driver in Leicester refused to pick up a blind couple because they had a guide dog. “Me, I not take the dog,” the driver said. “For me, it’s about my religion.”

July 1. A judge in London ordered the deportation of Saliman Barci, a 41-year-old Albanian man who posed as a refugee from Kosovo and collected the full range of welfare payments in Britain for 14 years. July 2. Dahir Ibrahim, a 31-year-old Somali migrant, was sentenced to ten years in prison for raping two women in Birmingham. He had previously been sentenced to ten years in 2005 for raping a woman in Edgbaston. A judge had ordered his deportation after he served his first sentence, but he appealed and was allowed to remain in Britain. Ibrahim’s attorney, Jabeen Akhtar, successfully argued that he had a lack of understanding of what is acceptable in the United Kingdom.

July 3. Azad Chaiwala, a Muslim entrepreneur in Manchester, launched a campaign to “remove the taboo” behind polygamy, illegal in Britain, by starting two polygamy matchmaking sites.

July 4. A Muslim man was ordered to bring his nine-year-old daughter back to Britain after taking her to Algeria and leaving her there with his relatives. The man said he did not approve of his estranged wife’s new partner, a Christian.

July 7. Sana Khan, 24, who plotted a jihadist attack on a shopping center in Westfield had her sentence reduced for “good behavior.”

July 8. Mohammed Habibullah, a 69-year-old imam who leads prayers at a mosque in Dudley, was given a suspended sentence after he was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman. In determining the sentence, Judge Amjad Nawaz, a fellow Muslim, said that Habibullah was a man of “positive good character.”

July 8. Sir Michael Wilshaw, the head of the school inspection service Ofsted, warned that the “Trojan Horse” campaign to impose radical Islamic ideas on Birmingham schools has “gone underground.” He warned that Birmingham was failing to ensure that “children are not being exposed to harm, exploitation or the risk of falling under the influence of extremist views.”

July 10. More than 1,500 children — including 257 under the age of 10 — were referred to the Channel program, the government’s deradicalization scheme, during the first six months of 2015.

July 11. A Pew Research Center survey found that more than half (52%) of Britons surveyed said they believe that incoming refugees and migrants will increase the threat of terrorism in the UK. More than half (54%) of Britons also said that Muslims in the UK “want to be distinct from the larger society.” Nearly half (46%) said that migrants are an economic burden on the UK.

July 12. Residents in Manchester received leaflets in their mail boxes calling for a public ban on dogs. The leaflets, distributed by a group called “Public Purity,” stated: “This area is home to a large Muslim community. Please have respect for us and for our children and limit the presence of dogs in the public sphere. As citizens of a multicultural nation, those who live in the UK must learn to understand and respect the legacy and lifestyle of Muslims who live alongside them.”

July 12. Gavin Rae, 36, a former soldier with the British Army and a convert to Islam, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for trying to buy weapons for the Islamic State.

July 13. Ian Acheson, the head of a review into extremism in British prisons, warned that there is a hardcore group of jihadi prisoners whose “proselytizing behavior” among the Muslim inmates in England and Wales is so dangerous that they should be separated from the rest of the prison population.

Hunt says public should ONLY use A&E for emergencies amid NHS 'humanitarian crisis'
HEALTH Secretary Jeremy Hunt today called for "an honest discussion with the public" about using NHS casualty services only for truly urgent problems.
PUBLISHED: 21:15, Mon, Jan 9, 2017 | UPDATED: 21:21, Mon, Jan 9, 2017
His department insisted he was not paving the way for dropping or watering down the target that people visiting Accident and Emergency units should be seen in four hours.
But he told the Commons that too many people were visiting them for non-urgent care and the target was designed for those suffering genuine emergencies.
NHS England will explore how to ease pressures, including more education of the public and greater use of "triage" services to divert minor cases to other services.
It comes after reports in recent days of chronic pressure on A&E departments which the Red Cross has dubbed a "humanitarian crisis", including two patients said to have died after long waits on trolleys at overwhelmed Worcestershire Royal.

The Health Secretary admitted there were "some very severe problems in some hospitals but .... there is not a generalised crisis. The vast majority of hospitals are coping slightly better" than last year.

Especially "distressed" trusts may be given freedom to relieve pressure as encroaching cold weather delivers more cases, he told MPs.
Hospitals may suspend elective surgery and postpone non-urgent outpatient appointments.
GPs could be relieved of administrative duties to free up more time to see patients and there will be more efforts to stop elderly people in care homes being sent unnecessarily to hospital.

But Mr Hunt also called for more longterm action to ease pressure on A&E.

Some hospitals were reporting casualty attendances up to 30 per cent higher than last year. They had treated a record number of people within four hours but the situation had been "extremely fragile" in some areas, with long "trolley waits" particularly at Worcestershire and North Midlands, he told the Commons.

"Looking to the future, it is clear we need to have an honest discussion with the public about the purpose of A&E departments.

"There is nowhere outside the UK that commits to all patients that we will sort out any urgent health need within four hours.

"This government is committed to maintaining and delivering that vital four-hour commitment to patients. But since it was announced in 2000, nearly nine million more people are using our A&Es, up to 30 per cent of whom NHS England estimate do not need to be there, and the tide is continuing to rise.
"So if we are going to protect the four hour standard, we need to be clear it is a promise to sort out all urgent health problems within four hours, but not all health problems however minor."

Solutions included greater use of "streaming" to divert patients with minor problems from A&E to other services.

Sources insisted there were no plans to water down the four-hour target.

But Lib Dem spokesman Norman Lamb said Mr Hunt's comments were "a slippery slope towards the downgrading of standards of care across the NHS".

Labour Shadow Health Secretary Jon Ashworth urged Mr Hunt to bring forward extra funding for the NHS and social care, telling him: "The NHS is facing a winter crisis and the blame for this lies at the door of Number 10 Downing Street.

"This crisis could have been averted. Get a grip!"

Mr Ashworth lambasted Mr Hunt for earlier seeming to downplay the situation by suggesting only that "things (were) falling over in one or two places".

Citing the main winner of Sunday’s Golden Globe awards, Mr Ashworth told Mr Hunt: "I know La La Land did well - I didn't realise you were living there."
Mr Hunt accused Mr Ashworth of wrongly "weaponising the NHS for party political purposes".

Data shows that A&E departments shut their doors to patients more than 140 times last month, a 63 per cent rise on the previous December's 88 occasions.

Mr Hunt condemned people who took up A&E time because of excess alcohol intake. Replying to an MP who said that more than a third of casualty attendances at peak times resulted from drink, Mr Hunt said: "The issue is about public responsibility. These are our national health services and we need to treat them in a responsible way.

"It is frankly selfish to behave in an irresponsible way and then create pressure on an A&E which means that someone else who needs that help may not be able to get it."

The unprecedented statement came after the US Secretary of State delivered a withering attack on Israel’s settlement policy that was seen by Jerusalem as “obsessively” focused on the issue over all others.

In his speech yesterday, Kerry warned that the possibility of a two-state reality was being out in grave danger and branded the governing coalition in Israel as “the most right wing in history” with an agenda driven by the most extreme elements.

A spokesperson for the UK Prime Minister said: “We do not believe that the way to negotiate peace is by focusing on only one issue, in this cases the construction of settlements, when clearly the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians is so deeply complex.

“And we do not believe that it is appropriate to attack the composition of the democratically-elected government of an ally. The Government believes that negotiations will only succeed when they are conducted between the two parties, supported by the international community.”

Last Friday, the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution against settlements by 14 votes to zero, with a the US breaking with tradition to abstain rather than veto the text. The passage of the motion provoked an unprecedented diplomatic rift between the US and Israel, while Israel limited trips by ministers to all those countries that backed the motion.

In recent days, Israeli officials have also alleged that the UK helped draft the motion and then pushed New Zealand to bring it back to the table after it was dropped by Egypt.

The UK spokesperson said: “The British Government continues to believe that the only way to a lasting peace in the Middle East is through a two-state solution.
“We continue to believe that the construction of settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories is illegal, which is why we supported UN Security Council Resolution 2334 last week. But we are also clear that the settlements are far from the only problem in this conflict. In particular, the people of Israel deserve to live free from the threat of terrorism, with which they have had to cope for too long.”
Amid the diplomatic fallout, Benjamin Netanyahu’s office was also forced to deny a planned meeting with Theresa May had been cancelled.
