Major disruption across UK rail network after heatwave causes chaos Richard Hartley-ParkinsonFriday 26 Jul 2019 6:20 am Share this article via facebookShare this article via twitterShare this article via messenger 176 SHARES This morning there will be continued problems with tracks being fixed and speed restrictions in place (Picture: PA) Commuters are being advised to avoid travelling unless their journey is essential this morning as yesterday’s heatwave continues to cause chaos. With temperatures hitting over 38C, the UK’s rail network struggled to cope with rails buckling and overhead cables being damaged. The worst-affected train companies affected are Great Northern, Thameslink and East Midland Trains. Thameslink will have a reduced ability to run trains, with half of its lines unavailable. East Midlands trains between Sheffield, Nottingham, Derby and London St Pancras International are also affected. ‘East Midlands trains will be operating … on an emergency timetable due to the reduced number of lines available for trains to operate on,’ the company said. ‘East Midlands trains strongly urge you not to travel on the London St Pancras International / Nottingham / Sheffield route today.’ LNER train passengers left stranded in extreme heat conditions Play Video Loaded: 0% 0:00Progress: 0% PlayMute Current Time 0:00 / Duration Time 0:45 Fullscreen

etwork Rail is continuing to fix damage to overhead wires between St Pancras and St Albans (Picture: PA)

Services between Peterborough and Hitchin will not run until 7am. In a statement, Network Rail said it had been ‘unable to completely fix the damage to the overhead wires between London St Pancras International and St Albans, and will continue to work on this on Friday night’. It added: ‘Please check and replan your journey, as service information will be updated throughout the day.’

The weather is also causing difficulties to flights. British Airways announced that ‘severe thunderstorms are causing significant delays and cancellations to our operation in and out of London’. Further travel chaos could be caused by thundery downpours prompted by the sweltering temperatures, with flash flooding and power cuts possible. Last night at Waterloo problems were caused by a man chasing a dog on a railway (Picture: Waterloo)
Speed restrictions on most commuter lines were imposed over fears steel tracks could buckle in the heat, while the conditions also led to overhead electric wires being damaged, blocking all lines between London and Luton. Overhead wire failures also caused disruption between London and Watford, between Preston and Carlisle and in the Birmingham area. Greater Anglia and Stansted Express services from London Liverpool Street are expected to be hit by delays until today, according to Network Rail Enquiries.
Commuters were dealt a further blow when they were told they could not claim compensation. A man collapsed in the heat yesterday after a train was evacuated (Picture: Twitter) This was the scene outside Euston Station last night with people not even able to get into the building (Picture: PA) Thousands of people were left stranded yesterday during the evening rush hour as the temperatures caused havoc. One passenger posted a video aboard a stationary London North Eastern Railway (LNER) service showing sweat-soaked commuters, including a man with a baby, desperately fanning themselves.
Another image shows a collapsed man being treated by medical staff outside the train. Despite fresher conditions forecast for Friday, ‘disruption is likely to continue into the morning’, said Network Rail’s network services director Nick King. Mr King said: ‘Our teams have been working flat out to fix the issues, however we are sorry that disruption is likely to continue into the morning.

Sead Kolasinac was filmed taking on one of the hijackers (Picture: Twitter) Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac defended teammate Mesut Ozil with his bare hands against an armed carjacker today.
German Midfielder Ozil was ambushed by a moped gang who boxed in his car as he drove through north London. He darted out of the black Mercedes G Class 4×4 and ran to a nearby restaurant to take cover. Meanwhile Bosnian Kolasinac, 26, jumped from the passenger seat and taking on one of the knife wielding attackers who was wearing a crash helmet. A witness of the attack near Golders Green Road, north London told MailOnline: ‘Ozil looked absolutely terrified, as anybody would after being chased by men with knives. ‘He looked like he was running for his life. A Scotland Yard spokesman said: ‘Police were called to Platts Lane, NW3, shortly before 17.00hrs on Thursday, 25 July to reports of an attempted robbery. ‘It was reported that suspects on motorbikes had attempted to rob a man who was driving a car. ‘The driver, along with his passenger, managed to get away unharmed and travelled to a restaurant in Golders Green, where they were spoken to by officers. There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue.’ A statement from Arsenal said: ‘We have been in contact with both players and they are fine.’

Labour has been accused by the Board of Deputies of British Jews of “letting off” people accused of antisemitism without sanction, after a leaked draft of the party’s disciplinary process showed that some members can avoid punishment in serious cases where they have apologised and agreed to undergo education.

The Board of Deputies, a leading Jewish organisation, said Labour’s disciplinary processes were still not good enough and appeared too permissive towards antisemites, following the emergence of a draft of the party’s “antisemitism decision-making matrix” from March.

But Labour defended itself, saying all cases were reviewed on the basis of evidence and arguing that it was right to adjust sanctions depending on the member’s acceptance of culpability. It is understood that the party does not treat an apology as an automatically mitigating factor or as a reason for not imposing a sanction.

The matrix, seen by the Guardian, says: “If there is a case to answer that the member has breached the rules, decide whether a) the alleged conduct is too serious to be disciplined with a written warning (ie suspension or expulsion appears appropriate, or b) there is an important dispute of fact. If so, refer to the NCC (unless education appropriate/agreed, and with acknowledgement/apology, is sufficient mitigation).”

It adds: “If the conduct would have been serious enough for referral to the NCC [national constitutional committee] or an NEC [national executive committee] warning but member has acknowledged/apologised and agreed to education, record agreement to education.”

Labour said all cases were reviewed based on the available evidence. A party spokeswoman said: “For example, an individual’s refusal to recognise their wrongdoing is likely to result in a more severe sanction.

“The Labour party is taking decisive action against antisemitism, swiftly suspending and imposing robust sanctions on individuals. Since Jennie Formby became general secretary, the number of staff dedicated to dealing with complaints and investigations has been doubled and the rate at which cases are dealt with has increased more than fourfold.”

However, Marie van der Zyl, the president of the Board of Deputies, said: “Despite Labour’s protestations after the Panorama programme, it is clear that Labour’s disciplinary processes still seem to be more geared towards protecting antisemites than protecting Jews. Over and over again, we see known and repeat offenders being let off despite a massive burden of evidence.

“The option of apology or training for those with serious enough cases to be referred to the national constitutional committee to get off is nothing better than a ‘get out of jail free card’ for racists. Fundamentally, this is about the culture and leadership of the party under Jeremy Corbyn being too permissive to antisemites. The process is wrong, the practice is wrong and the culture is wrong.”

Separately, the Board of Deputies wrote to all MPs and members of the national executive committee ahead of a special shadow cabinet meeting on Monday, calling for a more independent disciplinary procedure and for the cases of two high-profile members under investigation, Chris Williamson and Peter Willsman, to be dealt with within a fortnight.

The Jewish Leadership Council has also written to shadow cabinet ministers calling for an independent disciplinary system to be brought in and saying they must not underestimate the importance of Monday’s meeting as “inaction will signal your support for what has happened and what will follow”.

The interventions come after a difficult couple of weeks for Labour, since the broadcast of a BBC Panorama documentary in which eight former staff members alleged that the party was not dealing properly with complaints of antisemitism and was allowing Corbyn’s office to get involved in disputes.

Labour strongly denied any interference by the leader’s office, complained to the BBC, and said the claims were made by “disaffected former officials including those who have always opposed Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership, worked to actively undermine it, and have both personal and political axes to grind”.

However, there has been an outcry from some in the party, including Tom Watson, the deputy leader, whose relations with the leadership are at a low point.

More than 60 Labour peers took out an advertisement accusing Corbyn of having “failed the test of leadership” over his handling of antisemitism complaints within the party, and Labour’s leaders in the House of Lords issued a veiled challenge to Corbyn’s authority on Monday by warning him that antisemitism was a “cancer that will continue to grow”.

Meanwhile, more than 200 Labour supporters – half of them current or former Labour staffers – demanded an explanation from party bosses over the treatment of the Panorama whistleblowers.

Labour is to hold an extraordinary shadow cabinet meeting on Monday to address concerns about antisemitism, and Corbyn will address MPs on the issue the same day.

Swarm of flying ants over Britain is visible from space
(MSN) – The insects swept the southern part of the country early Wednesday morning in swarms so large they could be seen from space, according to the U.K. Met Office, which is the country’s national weather service. The flying ant invasion was picked up by a weather radar that mistook them for rain. “These ants are a particular size and they are probably hovering at a certain height in the atmosphere towards the

base of a cloud, and the sheer number of them would suggest there’s enough for the radar systems to pick up,” said BBC Weather presenter and meteorologist Simon King.

HIJACK TERROR UK warship ‘raced to help Brit oil tanker seized by Iran but was just minutes late’ as dramatic pics reveal ANOTHER stand-off

A UK warship sped to help a British oil tanker that was seized by Iran last night but arrived ten minutes too late - as dramatic pictures showed another stand-off last week.
The HMS Montrose was dispatched while the Stena Impero was in Omani waters but the warship arrived after the tanker had entered the Strait of Hormuz.

The UK has warned of "serious consequences" after Iran last night sparked a new Gulf crisis by seizing two British oil tankers.
In a major escalation of tensions, Iran's Revolutionary Guard launched a gunboat and helicopter raid on the Stena Impero, which is registered in the UK, claiming it had turned off its tracker and ignored warnings.
Another vessel, the Mesdar, was also intercepted and forced towards Iranian territory in what appeared to be a co-ordinated strike.
A defence source told the Times the Iranians appeared to be taking a "very aggressive stance" and were viewed as having been "ready to engage" HMS Montrose.
It comes as dramatic photos from last week showed HMP Montrose intercepting Iranian patrol boats surrounding the UK-flagged tanker British Heritage.
Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt, who attended an emergency Cobra meeting, said there would be "serious consequences" and pledged a robust response.
But he added: "We're not looking at military options, we're looking at a diplomatic way to resolve the situation, but we are very clear that it must be resolved."
Mr Hunt said the Stena Impero was surrounded by four vessels and a helicopter, and was heading into Iranian waters.
'SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES'
The second ship, the Mesdar, was surrounded by 10 speedboats, he said.

Taking to Twitter on Saturday Mr Hunt said: "Yesterday's action in Gulf shows worrying signs Iran may be choosing a dangerous path of illegal and destabilising behaviour after Gibraltar's LEGAL detention of oil bound for Syria.
"As I said yesterday our reaction will be considered but robust. We have been trying to find a way to resolve Grace1 issue but WILL ensure the safety of our shipping."
President Donald Trump last night called Iran "nothing but trouble", adding: "It goes to show I was right about Iran."
The incident came two weeks after Royal Marines seized Iran's Grace 1 tanker off Gibraltar - prompting Tehran to threaten "retaliation".
The ship appeared to be in violation of EU sanctions on exporting oil to Syria but Iran called it an act of piracy.
Yesterday the British-flagged Stena Impero, which was bounded for Saudi Arabia from the UAE, suddenly changed course and was diverted towards the island of Qeshm, where Iran's Revolutionary Guard has a large base.
ESCALATION OF TENSIONS
Iran claimed the ship had "failed to respect international maritime rules" by switching off its tracker and heading the wrong way in a shipping lane.

Iran's state-run IRNA news agency since claimed the country's seizure of British-flagged oil tanker was due to a collision with an Iranian fishing boat.
The report said the British tanker caused damage to the fishing boat, then did not respond to calls from the smaller craft.
Sweden's Stena Bulk, the owner of the Stena Impero, said the Revolutionary Guard - classed as a terror group by the US - used small craft and a helicopter.
Erik Hanell, president and chief executive of Stena Bulk, said: "There are 23 seafarers onboard of Indian, Russian, Latvian and Filipino nationality.
"There have been no reported injuries and the safety and welfare of our crew remains our primary focus.
"We are in close contact with both the UK and Swedish government authorities to resolve this situation and we are liaising closely with our seafarers' families."
The Liberian-flagged by British-owned Mesdar was also diverted towards the mainland about 40 minutes later.
It was said to have been stormed by gunmen but later released.
Neither of the two ships had any British crew on board.
Housing Secretary James Brokenshire said the seizure of the tanker was "completely intolerable" and said the Government was seeking to establish diplomatic connections with Tehran.
He told Today: "The actions of the Iranians is completely unacceptable. It is so important that we maintain this free navigation through the Gulf and to seize a vessel in this way is just completely intolerable."
UK vessels have been advised to "stay out of the area" of the Strait of Hormuz for an "interim period", a government spokesman said.

British Home Secretary Sajid Javid visits Western Wall
Sajid Javid makes first visit by senior UK official to Western Wall in Jerusalem in 19 years.

UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid at Western WallThe Western Wall Heritage Foundation
On Monday, Great Britain Home Secretary Sajid Javid visited the Western Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem as part of his visit to Israel.

This visit by Britain’s Home Secretary follows 19 years in which no senior minister of the British government has visited Jerusalem or the Western Wall.
The Home Secretary was greeted by the Director of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, Mr. Mordechai (Suli) Eliav, who told Home Secretary Javid about the history of the site and its importance as a focus of Jewish yearning throughout the generations.

The Home Secretary, who comes from a Muslim family, told that his father believed deeply in the connection between Jews and Muslims, and that his brother visited the Western Wall as a child, and that his father and entire family were very excited about the pictures from here.

The Home Secretary added that one could sense the spiritual power of the site and that he is amazed that the Western Wall is open 24/7 throughout the entire year. He also voiced interest in the pictures of mass events and in the millions of visitors who come to the Western Wall on Jewish holidays.

The Rabbi of the Western Wall and holy sites, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, greeted the Minister and recited with him Chapter 121 of Psalms as the Home Secretary placed a note between the stones of the Western Wall.

The Rabbi said to the Home Secretary, “Your visit here is evidence that it is possible for Jews and Muslims to live together in this small place without harming one another.”

The Home Secretary concluded with parting words and said, “We love Jewish heritage very much and appreciate it.”

The definition put forward determined that “Islamophobia is rooted in racism and is a type of racism that targets expressions of Muslimness or perceived Muslimness”. Now…. UK has “by far the highest rate of returning jihadi fighters in Europe”: 400 have returned, only 40 prosecuted
JUN 28, 2019 9:03 AM BY ROBERT SPENCER 18 COMMENTS
The Islamic State is at war with Britain. These are enemy combatants. They should have been stripped of their citizenship as soon as they went to the Islamic State. Would Britain have allowed 400 British Nazis who had gone to Germany to reenter Britain and roam around freely in 1941? But the present-day British government is only interested in keeping out foes of jihad terror, not jihad terrorists.

“Britain has ‘by far the highest rate of returning jihadi fighters in Europe,'” by Bill Gardner, Telegraph, June 27, 2019 • 6:51pm

Britain has by far the highest rate of “exceptionally dangerous” returning jihadis in Europe, police chiefs have warned.

A report from Europol revealed that of hundreds of Britons who travelled to Syria and Iraq amid the rise of Isil, nearly half have been able to return safely.

It comes amid widespread concern at the low number of returning fighters and so-called jihadi brides successfully prosecuted in British courts.

According to the annual Europol report, roughly 45% of Britons who travelled to Syria and Iraq have already come back to their home country.

The country with the next highest proportion was Germany, where 33% have returned, while in the Netherlands and Spain the return rate is thought to be just 18%.

The report warned that returning jihadis and their supporters pose a serious ongoing threat to national security.

“Those that have returned garner kudos with like-minded individuals,” it said.

“Their training and experience – such as handling weapons and explosives – makes them exceptionally dangerous.

“Furthermore, EU Member States’ ongoing concern is that these individuals can perpetuate and strengthen their networks both nationally and internationally.”

Out of around 400 jihadists who have returned to the UK, just 40 have been prosecuted. Most have been placed in rehabilitation schemes instead….

Muslim gang attacks are happening throughout London, and the mayor is silent
By Leah Rosenberg -  June 24, 2019 3550 0
https://israelunwired.com/gang-attacks-are-happening-throughout-london-and-sadiq-khan-is-silent/
Sadiq Khan is London’s mayor. A mayor should tackle the issues of the city and improve life. But as Muslim gangs attack Afro-Caribbeans, he does nothing.
VIDEO
Boost this video to reach up to 1000 people
Sadiq Khan
Sadiq Khan has spent his time tweeting against President Trump and insulting him instead of dealing with the constant murders and violence in his city. Muslim gangs are trying to take control of the streets and are murdering, stabbing, and carrying out acid attacks against Afro-Caribbeans. And the criminals are using social media to threaten rival gangs.

Children are being killed. This is a multicultural age, and the press has no idea how to apply pressure. It seems like many world leaders are also clueless. But how can anyone let these types of attacks go on in a Western, civilized country like England? We must be accepting of all people, but not when they are harming our society. And these Muslim gangs are most definitely harming our society.

Will Khan Not Criticize His Own?
Sadiq Khan is a Muslim himself. Does he have trouble criticizing Muslim gangs because he identifies with Muslims? He has no trouble criticizing Trump. And that is definitely not his job.

Wherever the wrong is happening and whichever people are the perpetrators of the violence, the mayor must act. Too many young ones are being lost to such despicable violence. Sadly, it is happening throughout the world, not just in London. But if we cannot tackle the issue, it will just continue to happen. And our world cannot afford that.

Boris Johnson took another big step towards Downing Street by topping the second round of the Tory leadership ballot tonight - and is also set to benefit after Dominic Raab was eliminated.

The former foreign secretary romped home with backing from 126 MPs, way ahead of his competitors. But Mr Raab was humiliatingly evicted with just 30 votes, having added just three over the past week, and his Eurosceptic support is now likely to flow to Mr Johnson.

The good news for Mr Johnson was only tempered by a surge from International Development Secretary Rory Stewart.

Having admitted his campaign was on a knife edge, Mr Stewart streaked past the minimum 33 votes needed, hitting 37 backers.

Mr Stewart said he had been 'pleasantly surprised' by the result, nearly double his tally of 19 from last week, but insisted he was still the 'underdog'.
'Many of these MPs didn't tell me they were going to vote for me, so I've been pleasantly surprised,' he told reporters outside the BBC studios.
A spokeswoman for Mr Stewart said it showed he could go 'all the way'.
Home Secretary Sajid Javid sneaked home with 33 and vowed to fight on, but there was immediately speculation he might withdraw.

Jeremy Hunt came second again with 46, but has failed to make much headway since last Tuesday, adding just three votes. Michael Gove also clung on in the race with 41, but again did not make significant progress from the previous 38.

Mr Johnson's showing in the vote tonight was lower than some had forecast, increasing by just 12 despite a series of high-profile endorsements. There have been claims some One Nation Tories are backing him in public, but voted for Mr Stewart in the secret ballot.

Mr Stewart's spokeswoman said: 'This is a fantastic result for Rory - almost doubling his vote - with the biggest increase of all the candidates.

'This shows his momentum is continuing to build. He can now go all the way to the final 2, giving the clear choice that members deserve.'

Justice Secretary David Gauke, a Rory backer, told Sky News: 'Rory will run a positive campaign and make the case of why he should be PM. I think it is really important that we have a proper debate.'

Meanwhile, Mr Hunt tried to put a brave face on his stalled support, describing it as a 'solid result'.

'It shows a steady step forward, which is exactly what we were expecting. It confirms that Jeremy is the best placed candidate to take on Boris,' a spokesman said.

Boris Johnson tweeted his thanks to those who helped him top the voting in the second ballot for the Tory leadership. 'Thank you to those who supported me in the second ballot. Very much look forward to taking part in tonight's BBC debate #BackBoris,' he tweeted.

Mr Stewart spent the afternoon desperately ringing round supporters of his rivals as he scrambled to avoid being ejected from the battle this evening.

Earlier, Mr Stewart joked that he must be 'doing something right' amid claims Mr Johnson was deploying dirty tricks to avoid facing him in the run-off.
Rory admits he had NO IDEA so many MPs were ready to vote for him
Tory leadership dark horse Rory Stewart today admitted he had no idea so many MPs were going to vote for him.
The International Development Secretary, who had admitted his campaign was on a knife edge, scored a dramatic victory by reaching the minimum 33 votes needed, hitting 37 backers.

But Mr Stewart said he had been 'pleasantly surprised' by the result, nearly double his tally of 19 from last week.
'Many of these MPs didn't tell me they were going to vote for me, so I've been pleasantly surprised,' he told reporters outside the BBC studios.

Mr Johnson's showing in the vote tonight was also lower than some had forecast, increasing by just 12 despite a series of high-profile endorsements.

The former foreign secretary has been accused of plotting to 'lend' some of his massive support to rival Jeremy Hunt. Allies believe Mr Hunt will be easier to beat in the final vote of Tory members than the International Development Secretary or Environment Secretary Michael Gove.

As he arrived to vote in a Commons committee room this evening, Mr Stewart jibed that he had been trying to woo Mr Johnson's campaign chief Gavin Williamson.
'Apparently he is lending votes so I'm very keen on him to lend me 15 votes to get through,' he told reporters.

He admitted he was 'not confident' that he had the 33 votes needed to avoid automatic eviction from the contest.

Mr Stewart said: 'I have got to simultaneously write my resignation speech and prepare for the debate at the same time.'

However, if the tactic was deployed it seems to have failed miserably.
As tensions rose today, Mr Gove and Home Secretary Mr Javid targeted Mr Stewart as the other half of a pincer movement looking to encircle the surprise second favorite.
Mr Gove pleaded lead with Tory MPs not to vote for Mr Stewart to get into the final two, saying 'it would be a mistake to put forward two candidates to the final round who will polarise our party,' in an article for the Times.
However, he also held out an olive branch to Mr Stewart by saying he wanted him 'at the heart of my team' in future. If the minister is kicked out of the race his endorsement will be fought over.
Mr Javid used a radio interview to warn that the leadership run-off does not 'look like a debate at the Oxford Union' - a jab at Mr Johnson and Mr Stewart's privileged backgrounds.

He also suggested that Mr Stewart was 'effectively telling us we should remain in the EU' - causing the International Development Secretary to retort that he was in favour of a 'moderate and pragmatic Brexit'.
How the drama unfolded in the battle for the Tory crown - and Downing St
Tory MPs voted in the second round of the contest to select Britain's next PM between 3pm and 5pm.
The result was announced at 6pm.
The five surviving candidates will not take part in a live TV debate at 8pm on the BBC that will feature the front-runner and former foreign secretary, Boris Johnson.

By the end of the week, four of the six current riders will be forced out, leaving the final two to go head-to-head for votes from the 160,000 Tory members.
That process should be complete by next month, with the new PM expected to take over from Theresa May in the week of July 22..

Supporters of Mr Stewart were also ramping up their rhetoric, with Justice Secretary David Gauke urging people to think how they would 'feel' if he was knocked out tonight.
'A question for my colleagues who: - want the leadership candidates properly tested - believe we should leave the EU with a deal - want a great communicator capable of pulling off a surprise with the membership ...

'How would you feel if @RoryStewart got 32 votes tonight?'

This morning Cumbria MP Mr Stewart 'liked' a tweet branding the move by Team Boris as 'juvenile and pathetic' and 'no way to choose a prime minister'.
And he added: 'I seem to be doing something right.'

One senior Tory source told MailOnline the fact it is a secret ballot meant Mr Johnson himself could vote for Mr Hunt and no-one would know.

'Tactical voting was seriously considered on the May campaign in 2016, because she would have been better off facing Michael Gove in the run-off. But it never came to that because Leadsom dropped out,' they said.

'They could well do it. But it has to be kept to the core group or you have to tell too many people. I wouldn't be surprised if Boris himself ended up voting for Hunt.'

However, an MP backing Mr Hunt said Mr Johnson's camp were 'making excuses' in case their vote did not go up significantly. 'It's a load of cobblers,' they said.

A source on Mr Javid's team said they were not 'detecting any signs' that the numbers were slipping.

'It feels like we've taken off but we are not sure if we've got enough fuel for the flight. Fortunately it is only a short haul... we will see at 6pm,' he said.

A poll of activists by the ConservativeHome website today found Mr Johnson was still way ahead - but Mr Stewart has been gaining ground

The wrangling came as Brexiteer former Tory leadership candidate Andrea Leadsom became the latest high-profile figure to back Mr Johnson today.

Without naming the International Development Secretary, Mr Gove told the Times:  'It is vital that the Conservative Party puts forward the right person who can stop (Jeremy) Corbyn.

Boris Johnson's father warns against 'Eton vs Eton' Tory run-off
Boris Johnson's father Stanley today warned against Rory Stewart facing his son in the run-off.

Mr Johnson senior said it was important to minimise 'blue-on-blue' fighting during the campaign.

And in a reference to the fact that both his son and Mr Stewart went to the same elite public school, he added: 'We certainly don't want to see Eton vs Eton.'

'The new leader must have a plan to deliver Brexit; and crucially, the debating ability to win the arguments in parliament and beyond.

At this stage of the leadership contest, it is also vital for Conservative MPs, who are narrowing the field of contenders to two people, to give the party's membership a true choice.

'As well as having the ability to take on Corbyn, the final two should be candidates who believe in Brexit, who can deliver it and who can unite the party.'

But Mr Stewart appears to be holding onto his support among Tory members.

A new poll from Conservative Home today showed he has pulled away in second place in the last week.

But he remains miles behind Mr Johnson, who looks almost certain to win the member vote.

Mr Javid said he is 'less Homer's Iliad and more Homer Simpson' today as he lashed out at his privileged rivals in the race to become the next prime minister.

'I won't do a deal with Boris', says Farage as poll shows...
The Home Secretary warned that the Tory leadership race risked looking like a debate at the Oxford Union if the final candidates are all from similar backgrounds - unlike Mr Javid who was educated at a comprehensive school.

'I may have been culture secretary but I don't have the oratory of Cicero, it's less Homer's Iliad and more Homer Simpson,' he told the BBC.

Andrea Leadsom backs Boris as Tory rivals vie for second place
Brexiteer former Tory leadership candidate Andrea Leadsom became the latest high-profile figure to back Boris Johnson today.

The former Commons leader and 2016 leadership runner-up was knocked out in the first round of voting last week with just 11 backers.

In an interview on LBC radio this morning, she said she was backing the favourite: 'I think he will be a very good leader for our country.'

'But I try my best to connect and I think it's very important as a modern Conservative Party that we reach out to those modern audiences.

'If we end up in a situation where the final two, three, four even are people from similar backgrounds with similar life experiences and it will look like a debate at the Oxford Union and I just don't think that's healthy for the Tory Party.

Mr Stewart, meanwhile, said he has 'no problem' being the 'stop Boris' candidate and would 'love' to go against Mr Johnson in the final two.

'I have no problem with that and I would love to go against him in the final two in order to give members the chance to choose whether they want Boris's Brexit or mine,' he told BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

The International Development Secretary also faced questions about his back story, amid reports that he allegedly worked as a spy.

Asked if former spies could, under the law, answer honestly whether they worked for MI6, he said: 'No, and in fact the law wouldn't allow newspapers to reveal the identity of intelligence officers...

'I definitely would say I served my country and if somebody asked me whether I am a spy I would say no.'

'I won't do a deal with Boris', says Farage as poll shows HALF of Tory members would like him as LEADER
Nigel Farage has ruled out an electoral pact with Boris Johnson or any other Tory leader as he hit out at attempts to 'buy me off'.

The Brexit Party leader said he had been approached by Conservative officials about working together to avoid splitting the Brexiteer vote.

It came as a new poll showed that almost half of Conservative members would be happy for Mr Farage to lead their own party.

Some 46 per cent of members surveyed by YouGov for the Times said that they would be happy if the former Ukip leader joined the party and landed the top job.

The shock numbers show just how divisive Brexit has become in politics, with the Tories languishing in fourth place in the polls.

The Brexit Party is currently in first place ahead of the Liberal Democrats, with Labour third.

Speaking to the Daily Express, Mr Farage said: 'I've been approached by a couple of people. But why would I trust anybody in the Conservative Party?

'If they really want to leave on October 31, they need to get on with it. All I can see at the moment is a rerun of March 29.

'I can understand why they want to buy me off but the lack of trust means it's not up for grabs.'

Mr Johnson has already played down the chances of an electoral pact with Nigel Farage's party, which is ahead in the polls +17

Mr Farage said: 'I can understand why they want to buy me off but the lack of trust means it's not up for grabs' +17

The YouGov poll also revealed that 40 per cent of Tory voters would be 'unhappy' if Farage joined and became leader.

Allies of Mr Johnson had already ruled out a pact, saying yesterday he did not 'need' to do a deal with Mr Farage, despite the rising threat from his new party.

The arrangement could mean the Brexit Party does not field candidates against Tories they see as committed to making a clean break from the EU.

Brexit minister James Cleverly said if Mr Johnson became PM he would not need to do a deal with Mr Farage.

He told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: 'I can't see that is something he would want to do and it is not anything he would need to do.

'He is able to win elections with Conservatives and Conservative support. He didn't broach electoral pacts in London and I can't imagine he would need to broach electoral pacts at this point.

Identified for the first time... the jihadis next door: The eight men who stood in prayer behind ISIS flag in London
By ABUL TAHER and MICHAEL POWELL FOR THE MAIL ON SUNDAY

Standing shoulder-to-shoulder in London’s Regent’s Park, eight men stand in prayer behind a black flag used by groups including Islamic State.
The men were caught on camera for The Jihadis Next Door, a Channel 4 documentary that was aired in 2016 and which lifted the lid on the scale of Islamic fanaticism in Britain.

The event was organised by Al-Muhajiroun, a group led by the hate preacher Anjem Choudary which had been banned by the Government in 2006.
The prayers were led by Mohammed Shamsuddin, 42, a hate preacher who has claimed benefits for much of his life and who was effectively Choudary’s deputy.

Today, The Mail on Sunday can reveal the identities of all eight men and the lives of hate-filled extremism they went on to lead.

From left to right, they are named for the first time as Shakil Chapra (one), Murat Kocchat (two), Abdul Muquith (three), Khuram Butt (four), Emmanuel Kelly Asamoah (five), Adinan Abdulatif (six), Taha Hussain (seven) and Ricardo McFarlane (eight) +3

The mastermind of the London Bridge terror cell repeatedly communicated with a 33-year-old man from East London in the hours before the deadly rampage, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

Irfan Saeed, who lives in a council flat in Newham, was in contact with killer Khuram Butt, 27, by phone and text message in the five hours before the knife-wielding gang of fanatics went on a murder spree that left eight people dead.

Evidence submitted to the inquest into the attack on June 3, 2017, details how Butt called Saeed just after 5pm, shortly after hiring the van that carried him, Rachid Redouane, 30, and Yousef Zaghba, 22, into Central London. Butt also sent a text to Saeed at about the same time.

Saeed texted the terrorist back and then called him unsuccessfully at least six times between 5.10pm and before the rampage began at about 10pm.

Two days after the atrocity – in which the three killers were shot dead by police – Saeed contacted the administrator of a secret WhatsApp group of which both he and Butt were members to request all the content be deleted because ‘police were making arrests’ in Newham.

The WhatsApp group was called ILMA – meaning ‘knowledge’ in Arabic – and was used to share extremist material.

The inquest at the Old Bailey was told how Saeed was among 22 people arrested in connection with the London Bridge rampage.

None was charged but a file on Saeed was sent to the Crown Prosecution Service because detectives suspected he knew about the attack before it was launched, yet did nothing to stop it – an offence that carries a sentence of up to five years.

Saeed, who could not be contacted for comment, has denied any wrongdoing. The inquest continues.

Frequent setbacks and even losses in the global jihad can be blamed on Western Leftists who persist on scoring against their own team. Unfortunately, this is not sports, it’s a violent war which is taking lives and ruining the same. While the aim of jihadists is to ““Kill them wherever you find them” (Qur’an 2:191, Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen said: ‘They are terrorists and these are terror attacks. The fighters were launched from Amari Air Base in Estonia on Monday, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said.

‘We were scrambled to intercept an Antonov AN-24 Russian military transport aircraft that was flying in international airspace close to Estonia from the south,’ the lead pilot from XI (Fighter) Squadron said.

Ms Letby has also been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of three more babies
(Picture: SWNS) A nurse has been re-arrested on suspicion of the murders of eight babies at a hospital neo-natal unit.

Lucy Letby, 28, was initially arrested last July on suspicion of the murder of eight babies and the attempted murder of six other infants as part of a police inquiry into the deaths of 17 babies at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

It is understood she was re-arrested on Tuesday based on further evidence that has been gathered by Cheshire Police. Ms Letby has also been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of three more babies. Detectives launched an investigation into infant deaths at the hospital in May 2017, initially looking at the deaths of 15 babies between June 2015 and June 2016. It is understood she was re-arrested on

Tuesday based on further evidence that has been gathered by Cheshire Police (Picture: Mercury Press & Media) Detectives launched an investigation into the infant deaths at the Countess of Chester hospital in May 2017 (Picture: PA) The probe has since widened and police are currently investigating the deaths of 17 babies and 16 non-fatal collapses between March 2015 and July 2016.

Today, Cheshire Police Detective Inspector Paul Hughes, who is in charge of the investigation, said: ‘As part of our ongoing investigation we have today re-arrested the healthcare professional on suspicion of murder in relation to the deaths of eight babies and the attempted murder of six babies.

‘She has also been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of three additional babies. ‘The woman is currently in custody helping officers with their enquiries. ‘I would like to reassure people that we are doing everything we can as quickly as we can to identify what has led to these baby deaths and collapses.
‘Due to the nature of this investigation it is extremely challenging but it is important to remember that it is very much active and ongoing – there are no set timescales and we remain committed to carrying out a thorough investigation as soon as possible. ‘At this stage, we are unable to go into any further details about the investigation but as soon as we can provide any further updates we will do’.

High grade gold has been found in previously untapped areas of the Welsh mountainside.

Exploration company Alba, which owns the licence rights to 41sq miles of land in Gwynedd - known as the Dolgellau Gold Belt - announced the discovery earlier this week.

The firm added that the anomalies had been uncovered in soil which lies well away from its existing excavation area and the historic Clogau mine in neighbouring Bontddu.

What is more, it was revealed that their findings contain an even better grade of gold than that previously retrieved from either site.

Using new technology, 1,200 soil samples were taken, with nearly three quarters of the results exceeding Alba's expectations.

"Our regional exploration of the Dolgellau Gold Belt continues to bear fruit," says executive chairman George Frangeskides.

"We have now confirmed mineralisation across around six miles of the gold belt (which stretches from Barmouth, past Dolgellau and up towards Snowdonia ) and we have, in total, identified seven new mineralised zones which are not associated with historic mine workings.

"The fact that the average grades for those zones exceeds the equivalent grades obtained over the Clogau-St David's mine itself is genuinely exciting."

The company is currently continuing its plans to reopen the Clogau Mine where work stopped in 1998.

It consists of a complex series of openworks, tramways, inclines, and open levels.

Originally opened for extracting copper and lead, the mine developed into production in the 1862 'gold rush' working the St David’s lode of Clogau mountain.

And it's not without sizeable prestige - the British Royal Family have used Welsh gold to  create their wedding rings since 1923 .

The Queen Mother’s wedding ring, the Queen’s in 1947, Princess Margaret’s in 1960, the Princess Royal’s in 1973 and that of Diana, Princess of Wales in 1981 were all made from the same nugget.

The Duchess of Cambridge's wedding ring - a plain, slim gold band - was made by royal warrant holders Wartski and fashioned from a nugget of Welsh gold given to the Duke of Cambridge by his grandmother as a gift to mark his 2011 wedding.

In November 1981, the British Royal Legion presented the Queen with a 36g piece of 21-carat Welsh gold for future royal wedding rings.

Part of this gold also went into making Sarah, Duchess of York’s ring in 1986.

Jeremy Corbyn has made more than £3million from the state in the past 30 years, according to official records.

The Labour leader has made more than £1.5million in salary as an MP and will benefit from a generous £1.6million pension when he retires.

A senior backbench Labour MP said the scale of his earnings was "remarkable" in the wake of Mr Corbyn's criticism of David Cameron over his own tax affairs.

The MP said: "This seems to indicate that we're going back to our bad old ways of criticising people for getting on but its even more remarkable from someone who has done so well himself over many years out of the public sector, paid for by ordinary working peoples' taxes."

‘Record number’ of migrant boats land on UK coast Jane WhartonSaturday 1 Jun 2019 11:36 am
Migrants from 13 boats have been picked up today off the UK coastline Nine migrant boats were intercepted off the coast of the UK this morning on the hottest day of the year. Border force agents were called to Winchelsea Beach on the Kent/Sussex border to deal with dozens of people. The number of boats is a daily record and politicians said the UK now needed to ‘get a grip’ on the issue of people travelling to the UK from mainland Europe. Charlie Elphicke, MP for Dover and Deal, said: ‘This crisis was meant to have been dealt with at Christmas, yet numbers continue to rise.

‘It looks set to surge to record levels through the summer. ‘The Home Office needs to get a grip on this crisis. ‘This is about much more than simply border security. It is about the exploitation of vulnerable people by criminal trafficking gangs – gangs that Bri

‘These journeys are incredibly dangerous. Overcrowded boats with men, women and children aboard. The risk of tragedy in the middle of the English Channel resulting in loss of life is very real. ‘This is why the Home Office and France must act now to bring this crisis to an end.’
Migrants have landed on the beach on the south coast (Picture: Twitter) These men, women and children were picked up a mile from the UK/French territorial borders in the Channel The incident on Saturday began at 6.20am when the first boat was spotted just a mile inside UK waters. Images from the scene showed the migrants, mainly men, being given blankets by emergency service workers once they landed on the beach. A major incident was declared by Home Secretary Sajid Javid last year because of the numbers of people making the perilous journey from France to the UK.

He ordered clipper boats to be brought back to the UK from the Mediterranean and set up extra patrols in the English Channel after 138 people arrived in December.
The total number of migrants to arrive in May exceeded that at 140 and is set to grow as the weather gets warmer and sea conditions calmer. Last year former immigration chief David Wood warned that human traffickers were using the UK coastguards as a ‘taxi service.’ He said: ‘
They know they don’t have to get right across the Channel and land, they can get half way across and the migrants will be taken the rest of the way.
‘Britain’s border force, coastguards and lifeboats are being used as a taxi service for the migrants. ‘There will be a hue and cry when a boat full of 12 migrants sinks and they die.’
The number of landings on Saturday were a record for one day The groups will be processed by border officials The UK has a coastline of 7,000 miles to monitor. The majority of migrant boats land on the south coast but there have been several making longer journeys to land as far north as Humberside. It is not known which countries the latest arrivals came from but in the past migrants often present themselves as being from Sudan, Libya or Iran. Smuggling gangs exploiting their desperation to come to the UK are known to charge thousands of pounds for a place on a boat.

Last year, France and Britain launched a new joint intelligence centre in Calais to intercept migrants making their way across the perilous waters. Today, the UK Coastguard, Kent Police and the border force were all involved in the operation. The Coastguard said in a statement that they were ‘committed to safeguarding life around the seas and coastal areas of this country.’ The migrants will be taken to centres to have their cases processed. A spokesman for the Home Office said: ‘Border Force is currently dealing with ongoing small boat incidents off the Kent coast. ‘Further details will be provided once the situation has been resolved.’

Boris Johnson must go to court over ‘Brexit bus lies’

Boris Johnson must attend court to face claims that the UK sends £350 million a week to the EU (Picture: Getty)
Boris Johnson must go to court to face accusations he lied in his repeated claim that the UK sends £350 million a week to the EU. District Judge Margot Coleman ruled the Tory leadership candidate can be summonsed to court to face accusations of misconduct in public office. The case centres round statements made by Mr Johnson during the 2016 Brexit referendum that were displayed on the side of a bus. Businessman Marcus Ball is attempting to bring a private case against the former foreign secretary, claiming he lied to the public over how much membership of the EU costs.
Today, the district judge ruled that the case can continue saying: ‘The allegations which have been made are unproven accusations and I do not make any findings of fact. ‘Having considered all the relevant factors I am satisfied that this is a proper case to issue the summons as requested for the three offences as drafted. ‘The charges are indictable only. ‘This means the proposed defendant will be required to attend this court for a preliminary hearing, and the case will then be sent to the Crown Court for trial. ‘The charges can only be dealt with in the Crown Court.’
Mr Ball’s team are attempting a legal first in prosecuting a sitting MP over ‘lying to the public.’ Misconduct in a public office is a common law offence, which has a maximum of life in prison. Mr Johnson, 54, has employed a top legal team headed by Adrian Darbieshire QC, who once brought the largest-ever private prosecution and now specialises in defending them.
At court last week, Mr Darbieshire said Mr Johnson ‘absolutely denies’ he acted in an improper or dishonest manner at any point. This story is

breaking and will be updated. Share this article via facebookShare this article via twitterShare this article via messenger

Two boys allegedly killed by their own mum have been pictured for the first time.
Blake, 14, and Tristan Barrass, 13, died after they were taken to hospital following a ‘major’ incident at a house in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, on Friday.
Their cause of death is not yet known. Police were called to the property in the Shiregreen area at around 7.30am and arrested mum Sarah Barrass along with her brother Brandon Machin, 37, of no fixed abode.

The pair have each been charged with murder. Blake Barrass was found dead in the house Tristan died alongside his brother Barrass is also accused of three counts of attempted murder against two other children. The pair appeared at Sheffield Magistrates today dressed in grey prison-issue uniforms for the short 10-minute hearing while flanked by three security officers.

They spoke to confirm their names, ages, addresses and nationalities but did not enter a plea.
No application was made for bail and the pair were remanded in custody to appear at Sheffield Crown Court tomorrow morning.
The chair of the bench said: ‘You will be sent to crown court and will appear there tomorrow morning.
Because of the nature of the offences, bail is not applicable.
You will be remanded in custody.’ Barrass is also accused of three counts of attempted murder against two other children

Tearful school children brought flowers, balloons and teddy bears to the scene. An online fundraising drive has been launched to help the surviving children. Gill Furniss, Labour MP for Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough, said she was ‘deeply saddened by the tragic incident’.

Labour party leader is forcing Jews to consider leaving England
By Avi Abelow -  September 4, 2018 10461 0
This is not a joke. The big conversation in Jewish homes in Britain today is whether they will stay or leave if Corbyn becomes Prime Minister.  As of now, he has not been elected Prime Minister.  But everyone knows that his chances of winning the next elections are great. That might be the catalyst for a mass exodus of Jews from Britain.

Is it Time for British Jews to Start Leaving Europe?
DAILY DOSE | With the rise of the far-right, increasing Muslim immigration in and leaders like Jeremy Corbyn in Europe, some Jews are beginning to feel the heat. Is it time for them to move to Israel or elsewhere? UK Israel political communications specialist David Mencer analyzes.

Antisemitism on the rise in Britain
The leadership of Jeremy Corbyn has made antisemitism into a mainstream position.  This is a real shocker.  Understandably, the Jews of Britain are quite concerned, if not downright scared. The first six months of 2018 saw the second largest number of anti-semitic attacks in the UK. The first six months of 2017 saw the largest number of attacks.

The Labour Party is Now “Institutionally Racist”
Liberal, secular, Muslim radio host Maajid Nawaz delivered a damning explanation about the Labour Party.  He believes that the Labour party is institutionally racist. This is a MUST SEE video to understand how Jews of Britain feel today.

Shout out directly antsemitic statements and you get elected to the ruling body. Have an argument with puppet leader Corbyn and you get threatened with disciplinary action.

Gove launched Operation Stop Boris and said he will join the Conservative leadership race because he has a better ‘track record’ and is more ‘capable’ of delivering Brexit than his former ally. Johnson and Gove clashed during the 2016 leadership contest after the Environment Secretary withdrew his support for the former London Mayor to run for the top job himself. The spectacular fall out between the two former allies helped destroy both men’s chances to lead their party at the time. James Bulger killer Jon Venables’
secret identity ‘cost taxpayers £65,000’ Zoe DrewettMonday 27 May 2019 9:32 am Share this article via facebookShare this article via twitterShare this article via messenger The father of murdered toddler James Bulger wanted Jon Venables’ identity made public (Picture: PA) It has cost taxpayers more than £65,000 to keep child killer Jon Venables’ latest identity a secret, according to reports. Lawyers for the man who murdered toddler James Bulger were paid £8,100 in legal aid this year, while government lawyers were reportedly paid close to £57,300. The costs came as Venables, now 36, was fighting a legal challenge from James Bulger’s father, Ralph, which aimed to overturn his lifelong anonymity. Ralph, 52, told The Sun he wanted the ban lifted to ‘protect the public’.

James, two, was killed by Venables and Robert Thompson, both then aged 10, after they snatched him from a shopping centre in Bootle, Merseyside. They were both later granted lifelong anonymity and, following release, have lived under new identities. Jon Venables killed toddler James at the age of 10 (Picture: PA) James Bulger was murdered at the age of two in Bootle, Merseyside (Picture: PA)
Ralph Bulger launched a legal fight to have Venables’ new identity made public (Picture: ITV) In March,
judge Sir Andrew McFarlane upheld the injunction, telling Mr Bulger the anonymity order was intended to protect Venables from ‘being put to death’.
The judge said: ‘(Venables) is “uniquely notorious” and there is a strong possibility, if not a probability, that if his identity were known he would be pursued resulting in grave and possibly fatal consequences.
‘This is, therefore, a wholly exceptional case and the evidence in 2019 is more than sufficient to sustain the conclusion that there continues to be a real risk of very substantial harm to (Venables).’
Anyone who breaches the wide-ranging injunction faces prosecution for contempt of court.
Speaking outside court after the ruling, solicitor advocate Robin Makin, for the Bulger family, said: ‘The authorities seem to be hell-bent on protecting JV regardless of the risk to others and this has been a primary driving force behind Ralph and Jimmy’s application.’ Venables has been living anonymously under a new identity since his release from prison for killing James but has since been twice convicted of having child abuse images in 2010 and again in 2018.

Christian persecution ‘at genocide levels,’ media maintains sharia-compliant silence
By Pamela Geller - on May 26, 2019
RELIGIOUS MINORITIES UNDER ISLAM
BBC: Christian persecution ‘at near genocide levels’

The BBC report blames “political correctness” for the West’s indifference, they ought to start by blaming themselves.
Genocide of Christians reaches ‘alarming stage’
The BBC report highlights “political correctness” as being especially responsible for the West’s indifference.
By Raymond Ibrahim, World Israel News, May 26, 2019:
“Christian persecution ‘at near genocide levels,’ was the title of a May 3rd BBC report citing a lengthy interim study ordered by British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt and led by Rev. Philip Mounstephen, the Bishop of Truro.
According to the BBC report, one in three people around the world suffer from religious persecution, with Christians being “the most persecuted religious group.”
“Religion ‘is at risk of disappearing’ in some parts of the world,” it noted, and “In some regions, the level and nature of persecution is arguably coming close to meeting the international definition of genocide, according to that adopted by the UN.”
British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt is also quoted on why Western governments have been “asleep” — his word — concerning this growing epidemic:
“I think there is a misplaced worry that it is somehow colonialist to talk about a religion [Christianity] that was associated with colonial powers rather than the countries that we marched into as colonizers. That has perhaps created an awkwardness in talking about this issue—the role of missionaries was always a controversial one and that has, I think, also led some people to shy away from this topic.”
