Deuteronomy 20


Going to War

1 When you go to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater than yours, do not be afraid of them, because the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt, will be with you. 2 When you are about to go into battle, the priest shall come forward and address the army. 3 He shall say: “Hear, Israel: Today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be fainthearted or afraid; do not panic or be terrified by them. 4 For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.”

5 The officers shall say to the army: “Has anyone built a new house and not yet begun to live in it? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else may begin to live in it. 6 Has anyone planted a vineyard and not begun to enjoy it? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else enjoy it. 7 Has anyone become pledged to a woman and not married her? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else marry her.” 8 Then the officers shall add, “Is anyone afraid or fainthearted? Let him go home so that his fellow soldiers will not become disheartened too.” 9 When the officers have finished speaking to the army, they shall appoint commanders over it.

10 When you march up to attack a city, make its people an offer of peace. 11 If they accept and open their gates, all the people in it shall be subject to forced labor and shall work for you. 12 If they refuse to make peace and they engage you in battle, lay siege to that city. 13 When the LORD your God delivers it into your hand, put to the sword all the men in it. 14 As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves. And you may use the plunder the LORD your God gives you from your enemies. 15 This is how you are to treat all the cities that are at a distance from you and do not belong to the nations nearby.

16 However, in the cities of the nations the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes. 17 Completely destroy[a] them—the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites—as the LORD your God has commanded you. 18 Otherwise, they will teach you to follow all the detestable things they do in worshiping their gods, and you will sin against the LORD your God.

19 When you lay siege to a city for a long time, fighting against it to capture it, do not destroy its trees by putting an ax to them, because you can eat their fruit. Do not cut them down. Are the trees people, that you should besiege them?[b] 20 However, you may cut down trees that you know are not fruit trees and use them to build siege works until the city at war with you falls.

Greater is He.

Moses reminded the Israelites that the same God
who had rescued them from slavery in Egypt could
help them defeat the enemy no matter how strong
their opponent was. Similarly, God has aready saved
us from our worst enemy-slavery to sin.
Sometimes we are faced with big problems or strong
opposition . Confronting an enemy causes a certain
amount of fear, but with God on our side we can be
confident of victory.
We can read in the bible how God has helped His
people again and again with their problems. We
can remind ourselves of the times He has helped
us, our family, and our friends. God is honoured
when we trust Him to help us meet any situation.

God is bigger than any fear we face. We don't need
to anxiously search for a solution. The best thing to
do when we're afraid is to fall to our knees.
He will hear our prayer, meet our need and help
us to face our fear with the courage only He can give.

Don't worry about anything; Instead pray about
everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him
for all that He has done.

Lord' Thankyou so very much, that whatever the
circumstances You are there for us always.
Only You are big enough to deal with whatever
comes into our lives. Only You have the power,
the wisdom and ability to do more than we
can imagine.

Isaiah’s Commission

1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another:
“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”

4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”

6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”

And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

9 He said, “Go and tell this people:

“‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding;
be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’
10 Make the heart of this people calloused;
make their ears dull
and close their eyes.[a]
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed.”

11 Then I said, “For how long, Lord?”

And he answered:

Until the cities lie ruined
and without inhabitant,
until the houses are left deserted
and the fields ruined and ravaged,
12 until the LORD has sent everyone far away
and the land is utterly forsaken.
13 And though a tenth remains in the land,
it will again be laid waste.
But as the terebinth and oak
leave stumps when they are cut down,
so the holy seed will be the stump in the land.”

God Calling.

Through out the ages faithful believers have answered
God's call. Abraham left everything he had behind and
and later offered the life of his beloved son Isaac.
Moses abandoned his fear to become the leader of
his people. The child Samuel heard the devine voice of God
and became a prophet speaking the LORD's word.
Isaiah, touched by God in the presence of his
Holy Majesty, answered the call without hesitation.
Mary, the mother of Jesus quietly accepted her
divine appointment with humility and self-surrender.
Perhaps God is calling you for a special purpose.
Is your life too busy to hear His voice? slow
down and listen for His call.

our life. Help us to always listen to know what that

2 Corinthians 6


1 As God’s co-workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain. 2 For he says,

“In the time of my favor I heard you,
and in the day of salvation I helped you.”[a]

I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.
Paul’s Hardships

3 We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, so that our ministry will not be discredited. 4 Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; 5 in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; 6 in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; 7 in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left; 8 through glory and dishonor, bad report and good report; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; 9 known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; 10 sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

11 We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians, and opened wide our hearts to you. 12 We are not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us. 13 As a fair exchange—I speak as to my children—open wide your hearts also.
Warning Against Idolatry

14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial[b]? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said:
“I will live with them
and walk among them,
and I will be their God,
and they will be my people.”[c]

17 Therefore,

“Come out from them
and be separate,
says the Lord.
Touch no unclean thing,
and I will receive you.”[d]

18 And,

“I will be a Father to you,
and you will be my sons and daughters,
says the Lord Almighty.”[

Good and Evil Don't Mix.

We don't have to look far to find evidence
of evil in this world. There are people
we deal with regularly who do not
believe in Jesus Christor care little for
God.
In this passage, Paul tells the Corinthian
believers to stay away from all evil things.
Does that mean we should stay away
from people who are not christians?
No. God expects us to befriend non
believers and share Christ with them.
We should be good examples,
showing them Gods goodness. But
when we spend too much time around
sinful behavior, we tend to such actions
as being acceptable. That's why we
need to spend time with other
believers, strengthening our faith and
celebrating God's greatness.

Lord, We lift up every one of our relationships
to You and ask You to bless them.
We ask that Your peace would reign in
them and that each one one would be
gloryfying to You. Help us to choose our friends
wisely so we won't be led astray.
Give us discernment and strength to
separate ourself from anyone who is
not a good influence.
we release all our relationships to You
and pray that Your will be done in each
of them. We especially pray for for our
relationship with each member of our
family members. We pray You would
bring healing, reconciliation and restoration
where it is needed. Bless all of our
relationships and make them strong.
For we ask it in and for The Name of Jesus.

Our Shepherd Friend.

This song in Psalm 23 mends our broken hearts
after reading Psalm 22, though that Psalm is an
part of God's message to us.
As christians, we can consider it an honour to
be a partner with Christ in His suffering.
But afterward it is comforting to " Rest in
fields of Green grass" and be led to
"Streams of peaceful water."
Our shepherd- Jesus- leads us and refreshes
our lives. We are given the wonderful promise
" I will live forever in your house."

and dry our tears. Hear us when we call to You
O God of our righteousness.

Jesus Restores a Demon-Possessed Man

1 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.[a] 2 When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him. 3 This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. 4 For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.

6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. 7 He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!” 8 For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!”

9 Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”

“My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.” 10 And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.

11 A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. 12 The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.” 13 He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.

14 Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened. 15 When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 16 Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man—and told about the pigs as well. 17 Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region.

18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. 19 Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” 20 So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis[b] how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.
Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman

21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him.

A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.

30 At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”

31 “You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”

32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”

36 Overhearing[c] what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” 40 But they laughed at him.

After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.

Two Kinds of Death.

The woman had been bleeding for twelve years,
and the dead girl was twelve years old. By pointing
this out , Mark links the two stories.
Both women experienced death.
We experience death in many ways. The obvious
way is when we or someone we love dies
physically. But prolonged sickness, lonliness,
losing a job, and many other painful experiences
are forms of death.
Jesus defeats all kinds of death.

Lord' We thank You for the miracles of every
day life and death. Every day babies are born,
every day people die, every day someone
dies to self and is reborn in You.
We see people very seriously ill, having
treatment from a Surgeon or Doctor that
God has given the intelligence to heal
them. We see people being healed
spiritually so do not fear death. Lord'
You are the maker of life and death,
of heaven and earth. Work in us so we
can in faith help other people be born
again to You.

    1 God is our refuge and strength,
    an ever-present help in trouble.
    2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
    and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
    3 though its waters roar and foam
    and the mountains quake with their surging.[c]

    4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy place where the Most High dwells.
    5 God is within her, she will not fall;
    God will help her at break of day.
    6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
    he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

    7 The LORD Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

    8 Come and see what the LORD has done,

    Our Mighty Fortress.

    Historically, a fortress was a place of protection
    for people during times of trouble. Often, during
    times of war, soldiers guarded these structures
    and gave the people inside a strong sense of
    security.
    Psalm 46.1 tells us that God is "Our mighty fortress"
    in our times of trouble, we can run to Him- He
    is our mightiest protection. God is our strongest
    security and the safest place to be. I is so reasuring
    to hear God saying.
    Be Still and Know That I Am God.

    Lord' In this hurly burly life You know how
    difficult it is to be still, yet You say
    "Be Still and Know I Am God."
    You knowest, it is only in being still we can
    read Your word and
    hear You speak.
    Lord' help us to make more time to be with You

    word and act upon Your word.
    In Jesus name we ask it.

    The LORD’s Case Against Israel

    1 Listen to what the LORD says:
    “Stand up, plead my case before the mountains;
    let the hills hear what you have to say.

    2 “Hear, you mountains, the LORD’s accusation;
    listen, you everlasting foundations of the earth.
    For the LORD has a case against his people;
    he is lodging a charge against Israel.

    3 “My people, what have I done to you?
    How have I burdened you? Answer me.
    4 I brought you up out of Egypt
    and redeemed you from the land of slavery.
    I sent Moses to lead you,
    also Aaron and Miriam.
    5 My people, remember
    what Balak king of Moab plotted
    and what Balaam son of Beor answered.
    Remember your journey from Shittim to Gilgal,
    that you may know the righteous acts of the LORD.”

    6 With what shall I come before the LORD
    and bow down before the exalted God?
    Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,
    with calves a year old?
    7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams,
    with ten thousand rivers of olive oil?
    Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression,
    the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
    8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
    And what does the LORD require of you?
    To act justly and to love mercy
    and to walk humbly[a] with your God.

    For Our Life.

    The Grand Essentials.

    As we look at our lives we often find a number
    of wrong attitudes and actions.
    We tend to be ruled by pride, consumed by our
    public appearance, devoured by our entertainment.
    We need to be called back to the simplicity of
    an honest faith.
    Justice, mercy, and humility have been called
    the "Grand essentials." These three words
    embody the basics of a faithful walk with God.
    Protect the weak with justice. Respond to
    injury with mercy. Approach God with humility.
    The solution to modern problems isn't new
    legislation or technology.
    The solution is in The Almighty God.

    Lord, Let us recognise we are not always as
    merciful as You would want us to be, we don't
    always look deep in the heart of needs.
    When people are in pain, help us to recognise
    their pain, and give them comfort. Lord
    we know it is comfort from You, the way You have
    taught us. Let us give justice to those who
    are persecuted. Lord, we come to you in humility.
    In Jesus name we ask it.

    1 Samuel 1


    The Birth of Samuel

    1 There was a certain man from Ramathaim, a Zuphite[a] from the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite. 2 He had two wives; one was called Hannah and the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had none. 3 Year after year this man went up from his town to worship and sacrifice to the LORD Almighty at Shiloh, where Hophni and Phinehas, the two sons of Eli, were priests of the LORD. 4 Whenever the day came for Elkanah to sacrifice, he would give portions of the meat to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters. 5 But to Hannah he gave a double portion because he loved her, and the LORD had closed her womb. 6 Because the LORD had closed Hannah’s womb, her rival kept provoking her in order to irritate her. 7 This went on year after year. Whenever Hannah went up to the house of the LORD, her rival provoked her till she wept and would not eat. 8 Her husband Elkanah would say to her, “Hannah, why are you weeping? Why don’t you eat? Why are you downhearted? Don’t I mean more to you than ten sons?”

    9 Once when they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh, Hannah stood up. Now Eli the priest was sitting on his chair by the doorpost of the LORD’s house. 10 In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the LORD, weeping bitterly. 11 And she made a vow, saying, “LORD Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.”

    12 As she kept on praying to the LORD, Eli observed her mouth. 13 Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk 14 and said to her, “How long are you going to stay drunk? Put away your wine.”

    15 “Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the LORD. 16 Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.”

    17 Eli answered, “Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him.”

    18 She said, “May your servant find favor in your eyes.” Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.

    19 Early the next morning they arose and worshiped before the LORD and then went back to their home at Ramah. Elkanah made love to his wife Hannah, and the LORD remembered her. 20 So in the course of time Hannah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel,[b] saying, “Because I asked the LORD for him.”





    A Gift of Sacrifice.

    Hannah desperately wanted a son. She even promised
    that if God gave her a son, she would dedicate him to
    doing The Lords work. And God heard her prayer.
    It must have been difficult for Hannah to keep her
    promise, but she did by presenting Samual to Eli the
    priest.
    Hannah was not just giving her baby away, though.
    She stayed in close contact with Samual. But she did
    let go of Samual and gave him back to God. As a result
    of her faithfulness, The Lord gave her many more sons.
    It's easy to get "sticky fingered" with the gifts God
    gives to us. We want to hold on to them, keeping them
    for ourselves. But, like Hannah when we give God
    that which is most precious to us, we can trust Him
    with it. And God always gives back much more.

    Lord, when we pray, let us always dedicate our
    prayer to You, asking things for Your glory only.
    Always praying for that which is right and holy.
    Show us that there are things we pray for are not
    right for us, and will do us no good. Only that which
    is of You is good. Let us be patient in waiting
    for answers to prayer, and respect that, that answer
    might not be the way we expected it to be.
    In Jesus name we ask these things.

    Crossing the Sea

    17 When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” 18 So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea.[a] The Israelites went up out of Egypt ready for battle. 19 Moses took the bones of Joseph with him because Joseph had made the Israelites swear an oath. He had said, “God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up with you from this place.”[b] 20 After leaving Sukkoth they camped at Etham on the edge of the desert. 21 By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. 22 Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.



    Which Way is Best.

    The shortest path from Egypt to canaan was a sandy desert route.
    The Israelites could have made the trip in two or three weeks by
    taking this path, but God didn't lead them on the easiest most
    convienient route. Instead He took them on a longer trip to protect
    His people. No doubt the Israelites that knew geography wondered
    about the wisdom of God's leadership. By human standards,
    this route made no sense.
    God was laying an inescapable trap for the Egyptians. He was also
    preparing another exciting display of His power to rescue His people.
    God does not always work in the way that is easiest to us. Many times,
    the road He leads us on is not the shortest, or the most comfortable,
    or the most convenient.
    God looks at the trip from and eternal viewpoint. He sees where we
    were yesterday, where we are today, and where we will be
    tomorrow.
    God is the only true guide.

    Lord, Please lead us in the paths of Your choosing.
    We know that which ever path You lead us will
    not be the easy option, but the path that will take
    us to be with You. Paths that will open our eyes
    to see where we err and fall short of Your leading.
    Only You can lead us to the TRUE path, The safe
    path. The path to eternity.

    Nehemiah 2


    Artaxerxes Sends Nehemiah to Jerusalem


    1 In the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was brought for him, I took the wine and gave it to the king. I had not been sad in his presence before, 2 so the king asked me, “Why does your face look so sad when you are not ill? This can be nothing but sadness of heart.”

    I was very much afraid, 3 but I said to the king, “May the king live forever! Why should my face not look sad when the city where my ancestors are buried lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire?”

    4 The king said to me, “What is it you want?”

    Then I prayed to the God of heaven, 5 and I answered the king, “If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my ancestors are buried so that I can rebuild it.”

    6 Then the king, with the queen sitting beside him, asked me, “How long will your journey take, and when will you get back?” It pleased the king to send me; so I set a time.

    7 I also said to him, “If it pleases the king, may I have letters to the governors of Trans-Euphrates, so that they will provide me safe-conduct until I arrive in Judah? 8 And may I have a letter to Asaph, keeper of the royal park, so he will give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple and for the city wall and for the residence I will occupy?” And because the gracious hand of my God was on me, the king granted my requests. 9 So I went to the governors of Trans-Euphrates and gave them the king’s letters. The king had also sent army officers and cavalry with me.
    10 When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard about this, they were very much disturbed that someone had come to promote the welfare of the Israelites

    A Bold Request.

    Any unusual action or appearance on Nehemiah's part
    {The one who served The King his wine} may
    have caused the King to suspect Nehemiah of
    trying to poison him. No wonder Nehemiah was
    afraid when he realised his outward appearance
    had revealed his inner sadness!
    When the King offered to help, Nehemiah
    quickly prayed for The Lord's guidance and then
    went and asked the King for help.
    We can't help but admire Nehemiah's boldness.
    A few minutes before, he was fearing for
    his life. Now he boldly asked the King to give
    him letters insuring his safe travel, as well as
    timber to rebuild Jerusalem's gate and city wall!
    Not only did the King give Nehemiah all he wanted,
    but the King made him govenor of Judah.
    Some times we are afraid to ask other people
    to support God's work for fear of being turned down.
    But if God is leading us, we can ask boldly and
    leave the results up to God.

    Eternal Father, in whom mercy is endless
    and the treasury of compassion
    inexaustable, look kindly upon us and
    increase Your mercy in us, that in
    difficult moments we might not despair
    nor become despondant, but with great
    confidence submit ourselves to Your
    Holy will which is Love and Mercy itself.

    Righteousness.‏




    Romans 3


    God’s Faithfulness

    1 What advantage, then, is there in being a Jew, or what value is there in circumcision? 2 Much in every way! First of all, the Jews have been entrusted with the very words of God.

    3 What if some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness nullify God’s faithfulness? 4 Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar. As it is written:

    “So that you may be proved right when you speak
    and prevail when you judge.”[a]

    5 But if our unrighteousness brings out God’s righteousness more clearly, what shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us? (I am using a human argument.) 6 Certainly not! If that were so, how could God judge the world? 7 Someone might argue, “If my falsehood enhances God’s truthfulness and so increases his glory, why am I still condemned as a sinner?” 8 Why not say—as some slanderously claim that we say—“Let us do evil that good may result”? Their condemnation is just!
    No One Is Righteous

    9 What shall we conclude then? Do we have any advantage? Not at all! For we have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under the power of sin. 10 As it is written:
    “There is no one righteous, not even one;
    11 there is no one who understands;
    there is no one who seeks God.
    12 All have turned away,
    they have together become worthless;
    there is no one who does good,
    not even one.”[b]
    13 “Their throats are open graves;
    their tongues practice deceit.”[c]
    “The poison of vipers is on their lips.”[d]
    14 “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”[e]
    15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
    16 ruin and misery mark their ways,
    17 and the way of peace they do not know.”[f]
    18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”[g]

    19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. 20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.
    Righteousness Through Faith

    21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in[h] Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement,[i] through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26 he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
    27 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires faith. 28 For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. 29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, 30 since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith. 31 Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith?       Who's To Blame

      So far, Paul has written some harsh realities about us
      to show that show we are all disobedient and that
      no-one is excused from God's judgement.
      When we come before God, we have to admit
      the truth of all that Paul hes written. It does no good
      to blame God or others for our behaviour. Each of
      falls short of what God expects of the people
      He made us in His image.
      But Paul doesn't leave us hanging. He reminds us
      that there is hope. God has provided the way of
      escape from the penalty of His judgement.
      That escape is Jesus.
      He rescued us by paying our debt and dying on
      The Cross in our place.
      There Jesus accepted all of God's judgement for
      our sins.
      When we welcome Jesus as our Saviour from sin,
      then God says we are declared "not guilty"

      Lord' Show us how to really listen to Your
      Holy Word. Help us to abide by it and ponder
      how much Jesus suffered for us, the cruel
      nails and crown of thorns, the mental torture
      that He endured. BUT HE ROSE AGAIN.
      He took our sins and declared, although
      our sins were as red as blood they had
      been as white as snow.
      How can we thank You for such a sacrifice.
      Lord' we are still weak morsels and need
      Your strength to keep us going till we meet
      in heaven. Fill us full of Thy Holy Spirit
      each day to be as You wish us to be.
      Lord Thankyou so much.

    Psalm 22

    For the director of music. To the tune of “The Doe of the Morning.” A psalm of David.
    1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
    Why are you so far from saving me,
    so far from my cries of anguish?
    2 My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,
    by night, but I find no rest.[b]

    3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One;
    you are the one Israel praises.[c]
    4 In you our ancestors put their trust;
    they trusted and you delivered them.
    5 To you they cried out and were saved;
    in you they trusted and were not put to shame.

    6 But I am a worm and not a man,
    scorned by everyone, despised by the people.
    7 All who see me mock me;
    they hurl insults, shaking their heads.
    8 “He trusts in the LORD,” they say,
    “let the LORD rescue him.
    Let him deliver him,

    18 They divide my clothes among them
    and cast lots for my garment.

    my precious life from the power of the dogs.
    21 Rescue me from the mouth of the lions;
    save me from the horns of the wild oxen.

    22 I will declare your name to my people;
    in the assembly I will praise you.
    23 You who fear the LORD, praise him!
    All you descendants of Jacob, honor him!
    Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!
    24 For he has not despised or scorned
    the suffering of the afflicted one;
    he has not hidden his face from him
    but has listened to his cry for help.

    25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly;
    before those who fear you[f] I will fulfill my vows.
    26 The poor will eat and be satisfied;
    those who seek the LORD will praise him—
    may your hearts live forever!

    27 All the ends of the earth
    will remember and turn to the LORD,
    and all the families of the nations
    will bow down before him,
    28 for dominion belongs to the LORD
    and he rules over the nations.

    29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship;
    all who go down to the dust will kneel before him—
    those who cannot keep themselves alive.
    30 Posterity will serve him;
    future generations will be told about the Lord.
    31 They will proclaim his righteousness,
    declaring to a people yet unborn:
    He has done it!

    Deserted by God?

    No other words in the Bible capture the the sense
    of abandonment we all feel at some point better
    than these. They are not an immature complaint
    of "Why don't I have more money," or "Why can't
    I be happy," Instead they are a real cry from
    the very depths of our being- "Why have have
    You deserted me?"
    Jesus shouted these words at God when He hung
    on the cross centuries after they were written
    by Matthew
    So can we. God doesn't mind honest anguish
    and doubt. What He wants from us when we
    experience is for us to hand Him that pain to
    Him-even if we feel like God isn't there.

    Lord' We praise You and thank You, that
    even when we have fallen by the wayside
    and have doubts, You pick us up again.
    We have You as our Father and can talk
    to You anytime, even if we don't feel
    Your presence. It is us that have drifted
    away from You.
    Help us O Lord to read Your Holy Word
    every day, so we have it as our knowledge
    and refer to it to see Your teachings.
    Lord' fill us today with Your Holy Spirit,
    That we are guarded against evil.
    We ask these things in Your Holy Name.

    1My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

    2For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

    3And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

    4Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

    5Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

    6But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

    7Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

    8If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

    9But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

    10For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

    11For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

    12So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

    13For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

    14What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

    15If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

    16And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

    17Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

    18Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

    19Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

    20But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

    21Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

    22Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

    23And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

    24Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

    25Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

    Good Deeds are Important

    Christian faith is not just something we say we have
    and then store it away. Believers cannot just close
    their eyes to the needs and suffering of others.
    Our love towards God must also be love towards
    others, which shows itself in real acts of kindness.
    Real faith works. Paul told us in his letter to the
    Romans that God accepted Abraham because
    he had faith. And that is true. But a living faith
    doesn't exist all by itself. The acorn either becomes
    an Oak tree or it dies. Abraham had faith in God
    and he acted on that faith.
    You can see people's faith by the things they do.
    Like the acorn, faith dies if it doen't work. But real
    faith always works.

    Lord' Where we are resistant to change,
    help us to trust Your work in our life.
    May Your light so shine in us that we become
    a light to all who know us. May it not be us
    who lives, but You who lives in us. make
    us to be so like Christ that when people
    see us they will want to know You better.

    Closing Appeal for Steadfastness and Unity

    1 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, dear friends!

    2 I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord. 3 Yes, and I ask you, my true companion, help these women since they have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are in the book of life.
    Final Exhortations

    4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

    8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice.     10 I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me.     14 Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles. 15 Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only; 16 for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid more than once when I was in need. 17 Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account. 18 I have received full payment and have more than enough. I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. 19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

    From Worry to Peace

    Anxiety is an insecure reaction to a threatening situation.
    Pray is a deliberate move toward the security of God's protection.
    When we start to dwell on our problems, we become grumpy
    and preocupied. We may even become cruel to others.
    The good thoughts that Paul tells us to remember are
    not simple illusions, but the truly wonderful things God has
    done for us.
    When we stay close to God in prayer and think about His goodness,
    we find that "God, who gives peace, will be with you.
    Gratitude is a necessary ingredient in our prayers if
    they are to result in peace replacing anxiety as an
    emotional response to life.
    When we thank God for what He has done and is doing,
    it is easier to trust Him for the future.

    Lord, You have said in in Your Word that whoever
    believes in You will have rivers of living water
    flowing from their heart. We believe in You, and we
    long for Your living water to flow in and through
    us today and every day we are alive.

    Love and Hatred for Fellow Believers

    3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God[a] is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

    7 Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard. 8 Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.

    9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister[b] is still in the darkness. 10 Anyone who loves their brother and sister[c] lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. 11 But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness.     Reasons for Writing

    12 I am writing to you, dear children,
    because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.

    because you know him who is from the beginning.

    because you have overcome the evil one.

    because you know the Father.

    On Not Loving the World

    15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father[d] is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

    Warnings Against Denying the Son

    18 Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.

    20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.[e] 21 I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. 22 Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.
    God’s Children and Sin

    28 And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.
    29 If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.

    Out of The Dark.

    If we truly love Jesus then we would hate our sins.
    Yet we still sin at times.
    When that happens, it is important not to try not to
    hide or forget our sins.
    we need to bring them to Jesus and ask His forgiveness.
    We strive to love Jesus so much and to be filled with
    The Holy Spirit, so that sin will not control our thought
    and actions. Jesus is the light that guides us out of
    the darkness of sin.
    People who do not trust Christ have little hope for
    the future.
    They will be trapped in a world of darkness forever.
    But those who trust in God's goodness and desire to
    help us will live in the light.

    Lord, Thank You that You have promised todeliver us

    2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
    Thanksgiving and Prayer

    3 I thank my God every time I remember you. 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

    7 It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart and, whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me. 8 God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.

    9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.
    Paul’s Chains Advance the Gospel

    12 Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters,[b] that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel. 13 As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard[c] and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. 14 And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.

    15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. 16 The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

    Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, 19 for I know that through your prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.[d] 20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me.     Life Worthy of the Gospel

    27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.     The Power of Gratitude


    Paul thanked God every time he remembered the Philippians.
    Giving thanks for one another in a good way never to think
    thoughts of envy or resentment about our Christian brothers
    and sisters.
    We should have many good memories of the love and kindness
    of such friends.
    God is pleased when we give thanks for each person that
    is so well remembered.

      1 Corinthians 13

      picture of how you measure up to God's ideal
      love for us.
      We would all be ashamed to know how far
      short of real love we come at times. It is
      difficult to be patient when things just don't go our
      way.
      Which quality of love listed in these verses would you
      like to see developed in your life right now?
      Ask God to help you express that aspect of
      love all day.
      Love helps us to overcome all obstacles.

    Our Father




    I cannot pray our, if my faith has no room for others

    and their need.
    I cannot pray who art in heaven, if all my interests
    and pursuits are in earthly things.
    I cannot pray hallowed be Thy name, if I am not
    striving with God's help, to be Holy.

    of having it in my life.
    I cannot pray on earth as it is in heaven, unless
    I am truly ready to give myself to God's service here and now.
    I cannot pray give us this day our daily bread , without
    expending honest effort for it, if I would withold from my
    neighbour the bread that I receive.
    I cannot pray forgive us our trespasses as we forgive
    those who trespass against us, if I continue to harbour
    a grudge against anyone.
    I cannot pray lead us not into temptation, if I deliberately
    choose to remain in a situation where I am likely to be tempted.
    I cannot pray deliver us from evil, if I am not prepared
    to fight evil with my life and my prayer.
    I cannot pray Thine is the kingdom, if I am unwilling to obey Him.
    I cannot pray Thine is The Power and The Glory,
    if I am only seeking power for myself and my own glory first.
    I cannot pray forever and ever, If I'm too anxious about
    each day's affairs.
    I cannot pray Amen, unless I can honestly say,
    'cost what it may, this is my prayer.

    Dear God,

    Dear God-I'm not the sort of person that could talk to You in prayer,
    But I feel I need some help from You so I hope that You'll be there.
    I look around me every day and I don't like what I see
    It seems the world is going mad and there's nothing there for me.

    Drink and drugs and muggings, little children-all at risk,
    No Love-or even mercy, who wants a world like this?
    Why don't You take a stand, Dear God and stop these evil men,
    We need to feel Your touch once more, setting Your world to rights once more.

    "Oh child of My creation, I am God and with you still
    But you will not try to find Me or discern My Holy will.
    My Love-poured out at calvary, My dear Son-hanging there'
    His agony- His tears and sweat, you just don't seem to care.

    You sin and evil nature, you are clinging to them still,
    serving satan every day you live with no interest in My will.
    I would that you might listen and your God will come to you,
    For my heart's with sorrow breaking at the the deeds My children do.

    For you are My creation, the child My hands have made
    I loved you ere I formed you and My love will never fade.
    But sin has separated My precious child and Me,
    Oh, If only you would listen and let Me set you free.

    I cannot now accept you till your heart is freed from sin,
    For nothing that defileth can My heaven enter in.
    So accept My loved provision in the person of My Son,
    Then child and loving Father will be reconciled as one.


    These things that so distress you are only till He come,
    Then redeemed-by Jesus' precious blood He'll take His children home.
    So child-delay no longer My day of grace must pass,
    I will not always with Man, My patience may not last.

    Oh child of mine, please be in time,
    Believe- My words are true.
    Just turn to look at Jesus' cross,
    He died-like this-for you.

    John the Baptist Prepares the Way

    1 In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea 2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” 3 This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness,
    ‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
    make straight paths for him.’”[a]


    4 John’s clothes were made of camel’s hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey. 5 People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan. 6 Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.

    7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. 9 And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 10 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

    11 “I baptize you with[b] water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with[c] the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

    13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

    15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.

    16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.

    The Servant King.

    John the baptist was really surprised when Jesus came to him
    to be baptized. John knew who Jesus was and he did not feel
    worthy of performing this task. But Jesus insisted that John
    baptize Him because that was God's plan.
    Jesus did not come to earth be a demanding
    dictator. He came to do the opposite of what everyone
    expects from a leader-He served others. We often try to be
    "number one," but Jesus warns us that ths first ones will
    become last in His Kingdom. Being the "best" by our
    standards iisn't as great as we think.

    Just recently we have had some terrible riots in
    England, and a lot of people were very frightened.
    Jesus says do not be afraid. Lord, We ask in your
    Holy name for strength and courage in such
    situations. These people we know did bad things,
    but they are letting off steam because of their situations.
    We pray the government get their act together
    and give more work to our country instead of
    sending all our work and trade to other countries.
    We pray David Cameron reviews our policeing, and do'es
    not halve our police Force.
    Lord we pray for other countries in similar situations.
    We ask all these things in and for Jesus name.
    Amen.

    The Seasons of The Soul



    Each season has it's benefits. We might not

    immediately recognise the advantages

    of winter because it seems so dreary. But

    underneath winter's white mantle seeds

    are being incubated, desease is being

    frozen out, and weeds are being destroyed.

    In one sense , winter wipes the slate clean

    so that the spring may regenerate the

    land. In the same way the desolate

    times of suffering cleanse us from

    our reliance on ourselves instead of

    God.

    It causes us to turn to Him for our

    sustenance. We are turned back to

    God so we can enjoy the fruits of His

    love and experience the ecstasy of

    knowing His Glory.





    Psalm 104.



    1 Praise the LORD, my soul.

    LORD my God, you are very great;
    you are clothed with splendor and majesty.

    2 The LORD wraps himself in light as with a garment;
    he stretches out the heavens like a tent
    3 and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters.

    The Years The Locusts Have Eaten.

    Locusts are a frightening enemy of farmers
    in some parts of the world. Sometimes they
    come in swarms that eat all the crops in sight.
    Locusts of self-indulgence and wrong desires
    have eaten up some people.
    As The Lord says earlier in in the book, there
    is still time to return to Him, God will restore
    those years we've wasted by running after
    other gods.

    The Coming Gift.

    The gift of the Spirit to ordinary believers
    would come centuries after these words were
    spoken, after Jesus had risen from death
    and returned to heaven. (we can read about these gifts
    this in acts chapter 2) This was a very new idea
    to the Israelites because in their day only
    select people like the prophets received
    the gift of The Holy Spirit.
    Today The Holy Spirit, who is God, lives
    in every believer. Each one has at least
    one spiritual gift that we can use to help
    others in their faith and to share the good
    news of God's gift (see 1 Corinthians 12-
    4-11.

    Micah 4


    The Mountain of the LORD

    1 In the last days
    the mountain of the LORD’s temple will be established
    as the highest of the mountains;
    it will be exalted above the hills,
    and peoples will stream to it.


    2 Many nations will come and say,
    “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,
    to the temple of the God of Jacob.
    He will teach us his ways,
    so that we may walk in his paths.”
    The law will go out from Zion,
    the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
    3 He will judge between many peoples
    and will settle disputes for strong nations far and wide.
    They will beat their swords into plowshares
    and their spears into pruning hooks.
    Nation will not take up sword against nation,
    nor will they train for war anymore.
    4 Everyone will sit under their own vine
    and under their own fig tree,
    and no one will make them afraid,
    for the LORD Almighty has spoken.
    5 All the nations may walk
    in the name of their gods,
    but we will walk in the name of the LORD
    our God for ever and ever.


    The hope of Peace.

    This is now one of the greatest visions of
    the prophets, a glimpse into the future that
    gives hope to succeeding generations.
    The picture is of God on the Throne and
    people of every nation streaming to
    worship Him in peace. This vision may
    bring a touch of melancholy to our souls,
    for this the goal of peace has not been
    accomplished.
    The clouds of war and the dust of politics
    obscure the vision.
    If we want to realise peace, we must first begin
    with ourselves. Remove the barracades
    from our hearts and let God's peace enter
    in. Then spread the good news of this peace
    to a waiting and weary world.

    Our Lord, we will remember the things You have done,
    Your miracles of long ago. We will think about each one
    of Your mighty deeds.
    Everything You do is right, and no other God
    compares with You.

    The Secret to Success.

    After Moses died, Joshua became the leader
    of the Israelites, The pressure of this new
    responsibility was great. He was to lead
    more than 2 million people into a foreign
    land to conquer and claim it as their own..
    Joshua easily could be afraid or discouraged
    as he thought about his opposition.
    But The Lord promised to be with him.
    He encouraged Joshua to be strong,
    brave, and obedient.
    The secret of true success, is complete
    obedience to God. We must believe that God
    is with us in every experience. As we
    obey His word, He will give us the strength
    and courage we need to face the whatever
    challenges that come our way.
    New experiences can be frightening,
    but with God leading our lives, these
    challenges can be thrilling and rewarding.

    Woe to the Complacent

    1 Woe to you who are complacent in Zion,

    Beware of Luxury.


    Material wealth and a comfortable life style
    gave Israel the illusion of security. To the east,
    north, and west great cities had been destroyed,
    yet the people of Israel continued to live as if
    nothing were wrong.
    In the midst of our cosy homes, sitting in our
    favourite chair, we too can forget the command
    from God to seek justice, love, mercy, and walk
    humbly before Him. Lets not blinded by our own
    life style while the world around us is dying.
    Children of Somalia are dying for the lack of
    food and clean water and have no protection
    from desease. These are our neighbours.
    too.

    Obadiah’s Vision

    1 The vision of Obadiah.


    This is what the Sovereign LORD says about Edom—
    We have heard a message from the LORD:
    An envoy was sent to the nations to say,
    “Rise, let us go against her for battle”—

    2 “See, I will make you small among the nations;
    you will be utterly despised.
    3 The pride of your heart has deceived you,
    you who live in the clefts of the rocks[a]
    and make your home on the heights,
    you who say to yourself,
    ‘Who can bring me down to the ground?’
    4 Though you soar like the eagle
    and make your nest among the stars,
    from there I will bring you down,”
    declares the LORD.
    5 “If thieves came to you,
    if robbers in the night—
    oh, what a disaster awaits you!—
    would they not steal only as much as they wanted?
    If grape pickers came to you,
    would they not leave a few grapes?
    6 But how Esau will be ransacked,

    8 “In that day,” declares the LORD,
    “will I not destroy the wise men of Edom,
    those of understanding in the mountains of Esau?
    9 Your warriors, Teman, will be terrified,
    and everyone in Esau’s mountains
    will be cut down in the slaughter.
    10 Because of the violence against your brother Jacob,
    you will be covered with shame;
    you will be destroyed forever.
    11 On the day you stood aloof
    while strangers carried off his wealth
    and foreigners entered his gates
    and cast lots for Jerusalem,
    you were like one of them.
    12 You should not gloat over your brother
    in the day of his misfortune,
    nor rejoice over the people of Judah
    in the day of their destruction,
    nor boast so much
    in the day of their trouble.
    13 You should not march through the gates of my people
    in the day of their disaster,
    nor gloat over them in their calamity
    in the day of their disaster,
    nor seize their wealth
    in the day of their disaster.
    14 You should not wait at the crossroads
    to cut down their fugitives,
    nor hand over their survivors
    in the day of their trouble.

    15 “The day of the LORD is near
    for all nations.
    As you have done, it will be done to you;
    your deeds will return upon your own head.
    16 Just as you drank on my holy hill,
    so all the nations will drink continually;
    they will drink and drink
    and be as if they had never been.
    17 But on Mount Zion will be deliverance;
    it will be holy,
    and Jacob will possess his inheritance.
    18 Jacob will be a fire
    and Joseph a flame;
    Esau will be stubble,
    and they will set him on fire and destroy him.
    There will be no survivors
    from Esau.”
    The LORD has spoken.

    19 People from the Negev will occupy
    the mountains of Esau,
    and people from the foothills will possess
    the land of the Philistines.
    They will occupy the fields of Ephraim and Samaria,
    and Benjamin will possess Gilead.
    20 This company of Israelite exiles who are in Canaan
    will possess the land as far as Zarephath;
    the exiles from Jerusalem who are in Sepharad
    will possess the towns of the Negev.
    21 Deliverers will go up on[c] Mount Zion
    to govern the mountains of Esau.
    And the kingdom will be the LORD’s.





    No Difference but Indiference

    While Babylon was destroying Jerusalem,
    the Edomites stood by and watched. They
    were were the descendants of Esau, the twin
    brother of Jacob ( also called Israel ).
    Israel looked to their Edomite cousins for help,
    but recieved an indifferent shrug.
    The long history of Esau is a story of
    unhappiness. One day all the enemies
    of God's people will pass away. Then
    The Lord will reign over His people
    in peace.
    Which side will you be on?.


    Lord, give us the strength to always
    be on the winning side. Not to be
    indifferent even to our enemies.
    Give us courage to love our enemies
    whatever race or creed. Help us
    to understand Your Holy Word.
    Please keep us in Your light always.
    In Jesus name we ask it.

    Matthew 5
    Introduction to the Sermon on the Mount
    1 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them. The Beatitudes
    He said: 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
    for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
    4 Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.
    5 Blessed are the meek,
    for they will inherit the earth.
    6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled.
    7 Blessed are the merciful,
    for they will be shown mercy.
    8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God.
    9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
    for they will be called children of God.
    10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
    for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
    Salt and Light
    13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
    The Fulfillment of the Law
    17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven. Murder
    21 “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder,[a] and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister[b][c] will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’[d] is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell. 23 “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.
    25 “Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. 26 Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.
    Adultery
    27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’[e] 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell. Divorce
    31 “It has been said, ‘Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.’[f] 32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery. Oaths
    33 “Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ 34 But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. 36 And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. 37 All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.[g] Eye for Eye
    38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’[h] 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. Love for Enemies
    43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[i] and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.


    Words to Live By.

    Jesus is The Ultimate Law Giver, and what gracious
    laws He gives! He begins by saying that the laws
    God gave to Israel were true and right, but they had
    been perverted into nothing more than do's and don'ts.
    "The" do's and don'ts" are important, but God is most
    concerned about the attitude of our hearts.
    Murder is wrong, but we must also guard our hearts
    against hatred, which is a form of spiritual murder.
    Adultery is wrong, but we must also guard our
    hearts against lust.
    Our promises and behaviour should be completely
    reliable, because we are the children of God
    who's Word is is always trustworthy.
    When other people make us angry, we may want
    to get even, but Jesus say's we must do good
    to those who harm us.


    Lord Jesus.

    The thought of You inviting us to a secret place Where You
    will share Your Love with us is over- whelming! We are amazed
    at such a thought, but we do want know You in that place.
    Teach to us enter that place, to be still, to talk to You-even
    without words at times.
    May Your Heart and ours beat as one.
    Hold us Lord Jesus.
    With You we are safe.
    Amen.
