SIN IS A CHOICE

Much could be said about the subject of SIN. In fact, I am sure
volumnes have been written on this subject. Today I will share just
a portion of what God has given to me to share regarding this
subject.

God created marriage between a man and a woman.
Yet man today are trying to change this institution.
Are we going to sit back and let it happen?????? ???
Write your senators, governors, sign petitions, do whatever it takes
to stop this abomination.

Did you know that we CHOOSE to sin and that it is not something that
just happens? Homosexuality is not inborn. It is NOT something we
are born with. We choose our lifestyles people. We have a choice.
We can either sin and be out of right fellowship with the heavenly
Father or we can choose NOT to sin and be in right fellowship with
the heavenly Father.

There are COUNTLESS scriptures to combat SIN, but especially the sin
of homosexuality. The bible doesn't use the term because it is a
relatively new word and did not exist back in the first century,
though the sin of homosexuality did exist, but the Bible does come
against this abomination.

Romans 1:26 "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections:
for even their women did change the natural use into that which is
against nature".

Romans 1:27 "And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of
the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men
working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that
recompence of their error which was meet".

Now I don't know about you...but I find this CLEAR. Men leaving the
natural use of the woman burning in their own lusts....... ..very
clear indeed, though people involved in this activity will reject
this.

Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death....... ."
that is also clear that if mankind (men/women) DO NOT give up their
sinful ways (lust of the flesh especially) they will NOT have
eternal life with the heavenly Father. If it worth it for a little
time of pleasure now to risk your eternal life?

Here is a portion of my "Study in the DOCTRINE OF SIN".

First, an introduction: "Hamartiology" is a word which comes from 2
Greek words, "Harmartia" which means SIN" and "Logos" which
means "word of discourse".
Thus, "Harmartiology" is the Biblical TEACHING concerning "sin", its
origin, definition, expression and final end.

Deuteronomy 29:29 states: "The secret things belong unto the Lord
our God, but the things which are revealed belong unto us and to our
children FOREVER, that we may do all the words of this law."
Man must satisfy himself with the MEASURE of truth concerning
the "doctrine of sin" that is revealed in the Scriptures, and not
seek to go beyond it, knowing that God will answer the questions in
His own time. I will do this study in OUTLINE form so that it is
easier to follow.

I. THE FACT OF SIN

It is evident that there is something wrong in the universe with
both the earth and its inhabitants. The source of all chaos,
disharmony and strife in the world can be traced immediately back to
the origin and existence of "sin".
Let's explore and consider several evidences of the "fact of sin"
and that SIN truly does exist in the world.

A. CREATION DECLARES IT - The contrast between life and death,
harmony and disharmony and discord, beauty and ugliness, light and
darkness, all of this, declares the "fact of sin". This planet
Earth which was meant to bless mankind seems to be under some form
of a curse. Genesis 3"17; Genesis 8:22 - "Cursed is the ground.."
Catastrophes happen in various parts of the world and have been
happening for quite some time: severe blizzards, earthquakes,
etc., in which people lose their lives. Why do these things
happen? All of nature itself seems to declare that something is
wrong.

B. HUMAN HISTORY DECLARES IT - The briefest view of human
history with its chaos and confusion, war and bloodshed, spirit of
hate and murder, moral corruption and dominance, indicates that
something is wrong in the nations of the earth. Where do wars and
fights among the nations of the world come from? Existence of sin.
Mankind wanting "power" to rule the world.

(James 4:1-4). In Ireland, the Catholics and the Protestants hate
each other. Product of SIN. "Hatred" is sin. There is the war of
Blacks against Whites; Whites against Blacks; all a product of
SIN. "Love is of God", not hatred. Hatred is SIN.
There is no difference between people who are dark-skinned and
people who are light-skinned. In heaven there is no black or white,
no male or female. Why do we try to say one is better than the
other? That is stinking thinking.

Moses spoke to the children of Israel in Numbers 32:23 - "Be sure
your sin will find you out."

Conscience tells us when we do right and wrong. I like to think of
it as more the Holy Spirit than our conscience. What is our
conscience after all? Henry Clay Trumbull said this once:
"Conscience tells us that we ought to do right, but it does not
tell us what right is; that we are taught by God's Word."

Daniel Webster said it this way: "A conscience void of offense
before God and man is an inheritance for eternity."

Thomas Kempis said this - "He will easily be content and at peace
who conscience is pure."

It is impossible for an evildoer to get safely by the judgment seat
of conscience. Today's lesson may seem deep for some, but please
remember, that since I am a College Bible Teacher, this is college
material.

II. BIBLE DEFINITIONS OF SIN

A. SCIRPTURAL DEFINTIONS

There are 5 areas of scriptures which define sin that we can look at
today.

1. The thought of Foolishness - Proverbs 24:9 - "The thought
of foolishness is sin."
When satan and Adam entertained the thought of being "as gods" it
was indeed foolishness and this covetous THOUGHT itself was SIN.

2. Transgression of Law - 1 John 3:4 - "Sin is transgression
of the law." Trensgress meaning "to pass across", or "to go across
forbidden boundary line." Adam transgressed God's law when he
sinned in the garden. When we sin we transgress God's law.

3. Unrighteousness is Sin - 1 John 5:17 - "All
unrighteousness is sin." Adam committed an injustice to God and man
by giving in to temptation. We should avoid temptation.

4. Not doing good is sin - James 4:17 - "To him that knoweth
to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin." In other words, if we
see someone in need, and turn our backs, that is sin. If we have the
means to help someone, to do good, and do it not, that is sin.

5. Unbelief is sin - Romans 14:23 - "Whatsoever is not of
faith is sin."
When you do not believe the Word of God, you fall into the
category of "sin". Adam and Even knew the good and perfect will of
God, yet sinned.

B. HEBREW WORDS FOR SIN

There are various words used for SIN in Hebrew, but we note only 4.

1. "Chattath" - which means: "an offence, sometimes habitual
sinfulness and its penalty, occasion, sacrifice or expiation."
Lev. 4:2,3; Psalm 32:1,5; Psalm 51:2-5; Isaiah 53:10,12. In other
words, to miss the mark.

2. "Pawsah" or "pheshah". This word means: "to break away
from just authority; trespass, apostasize, quarell, a revolt"
(national, moral or religions). It is translated by the
words "offend, rebel, revolt, transgression" (Exodus 34:7; Numbers
14:18; Psalm 19:13; Psalm 32:1; Isaiah 53:8; Daniel 9:24.)

Before we continue on with our outline on the DOCTRINE OF SIN, let
me say that God is watching us, everything we say, and everything we
do.
Romans 8:6 - "For to be carnally minded is death; but to be
spiritually minded is life and peace."

Father, in lovingkindness You have come to Redeem us from ourselves.
WE are tempted daily to sin and keep ourselves away from You but You
in Your mercy Lord keep us under Your Wings. Use, we pray, the Gifts
that You have given unto us so that we may truly discern how to stay
away from SIN and to WALK with You. AMEN.

Immorality is Sin. Deviation from God's plan for our lives, is Sin.
Homosexuality in any form is Sin. Doing anything contrary to God's
Word, is Sin. The problem is not the law of God, but in the creature
who transgresses the law of God. God is NOT the author of sin. Sin
is separation from God. Satan is the author of sin. We continue on
with outline with some Greek words.

Remember that this is college material taken from my notes when I
taught at the Christian Bible College and this is being taught in
Bible schools everywhere. Though no portion of this may be used
without written permission of the author (except for scripture which
is not copyrighted obviously), I urge you to please grasp this today
and write it upon the tablestones of your heart.

C. GREEK WORDS FOR SIN

1. HAMARTIA - In Greek means "offence". (Matthew 1:21;
Matthew 26:28; Luke 11:4; Luke 24:47; John 1:29; John 8:34;
Acts 2:38; Romans 3:20; Romans 5:12; Romans 6:10-23; Romans 8:2;
Romans 14:23; 2 Corin. 5:21; James 1:15; James 4:17; 1 John 1:9; 1
John 5:17.) It means to miss the mark or to seek to attain results
which lie beyond the limits of one's capabilities. In the New
Testament it became the general term for sin, referring to both the
inner principle of sin and its outward expressions; to both the
power of sin and its fruit.

2. HAMARTEMA - This word is used only 4 times in the New
Testament and is always translated Sin. It only differs in meaning
from the word above in that its meaning is limited to the outward
expression of sin. (Mark 3:28; Mark 4:12; Romans 3:25;
1 Corin. 6:18).

3. PARAKOE - this word is used only 5 times in the New
Testament.
The noun form is translated "disobedience" 3 times and the verb form
of it is translated "neglect to hear" two times in Matthew 18:17. It
means "to hear amiss" and refers most likely to a refusal to listen
to God speaking or possibly an imperfect hearing of His Voice. Both
of these display a carelessness in attitude toward the Word of God
(Romans 5:19; 2 Corin. 10:6; Hebrews 2:2).

4. ANOMIA - This word is used 15 times in the New Testament
and is always translated "iniquity" (except in 2 Corin. 6:14).

5. PARANOMIA - This word is used only once in the New
Testament and is there translated "inquity". (2 Peter 2:16).

6. PARABASIS - This word is used 16 times in the New
Testament.
The noun forms are translated "transgressor" and "transgression"
(except in Romans 2:23).

7. PARAPTOMA - This word is used 23 times in the New
Testament and is translated: trespasses,
offences, fall, fault, faults, sins. It means literally to fall
aside, fall away, to blunder. Refers to a deviation or falling away
from uprightness and truth (Matthew 6:14,15; Romans 4:24; Romans
5:15-20; Romans 11:11,12; 2 Corin. 5:19; Galatians 6:1; Ephes. 1:7;
Ephes. 2:1; Colossians 2:13; James 5:16)

8. AGNOEMA - This word is used only once in the New
Testament and is there translated "errors". (Hebrews 9:7).

9. HETTEMA - This word is used only twice in the New
Testament and is translated "diminishing" " in Romans 11:12
and "fault" and in 1 Corin. 6:7, means literally a lessening or a
loss, to a defect, a flaw the loss of their unity.
