An Encouragement for today

"What a Friend we have in Jesus"

James 2:23 "And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God,
and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of
God."

The Bible tells us in Proverbs 18:24 that God is a friend who sticks closer than
a brother. That means He is always faithful and true. People may let you down,
but God will never let
you down. He will never leave you. He will never forsake you. He is with you
always. He is mindful of you; He is always thinking of you.

The all-knowing, all-powerful Creator of the universe wants to be your friend
today! He wants to walk with you, talk with you and simply share life with
you.
That's why He created you, first and foremost, for His fellowship. It's as
simple as opening your heart of faith to Him just like Abraham did.

Joseph Scriven knew heartache and devastation first hand. As a young man his
hopes and dreams vanished on the day before his wedding when he watched in
horror as the lifeless body of his beloved was pulled from the water where she
had drowned. Sorrow overwhelmed him, yet in the months and years that followed,
Scriven turned repeatedly to the only Friend who would never leave him. Although
he battled loneliness and depression for the rest of his life, he never let go
of the hand of his Savior. Scriven knew that Jesus cared and that He was
acquainted with loneliness and sorrow. This man knew that he could take his
grief to Jesus and find strength and peace that no one else could give. Years
later Scriven took what he had learned through his pain and put it into the
words of a poem that we now sing as "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." What a
beauty hymn that is still sung in many churches today.

My friend, in your moments of trial, temptation and hardship, turn to the Friend
who is always there. Listen to His words as He speaks to you through the
Scriptures. Be honest with God and with yourself about your thoughts and
feelings. Spend time in prayer and experience the comfort of His presence. Seek
His forgiveness when you stray from Him and His ways. Be encouraged as you
remember that no matter what happens, He will not leave you. He will not abandon
you. Let Him hug you close to His heart. Rest in Him and find peace for He truly
is a Friend that sticks closer than a brother!

What an honor and privilege it is to be called God's friend! Let that sink down
into your heart today. The next time the enemy tries to tell you that you are
alone in this world, or no one understands what you are going through, just say
out loud, "I am a friend of God." With God as your friend, He'll lead you and
walk with you down the path of victory!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Heavenly Father, thank You for my salvation that You have given me through
Christ my Savior.
Thank You Father for being my friend today and every day of my life.
Thank You for loving me and being faithful to me.
Help me understand Your friendship today so that I can
be a better friend to those around me.
In Jesus' Name. Amen.
