Trump Reinstates Ban on US Funds Promoting Overseas Abortions Jan 23, 2017 02:19 pm
(The Hill) -- President Trump on Monday morning signed an executive order blocking foreign aid or federal funding for international nongovernmental organizations that provide or "promote" abortions. The order comes one day after the 44th anniversary of the Roe V. Wade Supreme Court ruling that made abortion legal, and days before the annual "March for Life" in Washington on Jan. 27.
The so-called Mexico City policy, established by Republican President Ronald Reagan in 1984, blocks federal funding for international family planning charities that provide abortions or “promote” the procedure by providing patients with information about it, including by offering referrals to abortion providers.

A meeting was held on Wednesday, which included a presentation from Satanic Temple spokesman Doug Mesner, who goes by the name Lucien Greaves.
“It’s not the place of the government to dictate to people what is and what is not appropriate religious expression,” he contended.

US House Votes to Permanently Ban Taxpayer Funding of Abortion Jan 25, 2017 07:01 am
WASHINGTON -- The U.S. House of Representatives passed the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act on Tuesday, essentially placing a permanent ban on taxpayer funding of abortions, as outlined in the Hyde Amendment. The matter now moves to the Senate for consideration. The Act had been introduced by Rep. Chris Smith
R-New Jersey, a longtime supporter of the Amendment, which was first passed in 1976 to ban the use of Medicaid funds for abortion, with the exceptions of rape, incest and the life of the mother. Noting peer reviewed studies, Smith says that the Amendment has saved two million lives since its inception.
“Two million people who would have been aborted instead survived because public funds were unavailable to effectuate their violent demise, while their mothers benefited from prenatal health care and support,” Smith said on the House floor prior to the vote. “Two million survivors have had the opportunity to live and enjoy the first and most basic of all human rights—the right to life.”

Report: Trump to Sign Religious Freedom Order Amid Retention of Homosexual, Transgender Protections Feb 02, 2017 06:24 pm
WASHINGTON -- Reports state that President Trump might soon issue an executive order protecting the rights of religious groups following his decision to keep an Obama-era order banning groups that contract with the federal government from "discriminating" against homosexuals and transgenders in their business or non-profit organization. The outlet The Nation obtained a leaked copy of the order, which allegedly protects faith-based entities “when providing social services, education, or healthcare; earning a living, seeking a job, or employing others; receiving government grants or contracts; or otherwise participating in the marketplace, the public square, or interfacing with federal, state or local governments.

Bush Judge: Abortion Facilities May Throw Babies in Trash as It Is ‘Undue Burden’ to Require Burial

AUSTIN, Texas — A federal judge nominated to the bench by then-President George W. Bush issued a preliminary injunction this week against a new Texas regulation requiring that abortion facilities arrange for deceased babies to be either buried or cremated instead of being treated as medical waste, stating that the requirement places an “undue burdens on a woman’s right to seek a previability abortion.”
“It seems unlikely DSHS’S professed purpose is a valid state interest and not a pretext for restricting abortion access,” U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks extended his restraining order against the rule on Friday. “By comparison, Plaintiffs face likely constitutional violations, which could severely limit abortion access in Texas.”

The restaurant chain Chili’s has canceled a fundraiser set up by a franchise partner for an affiliate of the abortion giant Planned Parenthood after receiving complaints over the matter.
Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky had announced on social media last week that supporters throughout the two states could present a voucher when dining at Chili’s and 15 percent of their pre-tax purchase would be donated to Planned Parenthood.
The promotion was a part of Chili’s “Give Back” program.
“Here’s why you should go to happy hour,” the organization wrote. “Show this flyer at any Chili’s Bar and Grill in Indiana and Kentucky, and the restaurant will donate 15% of your check to PPINK! The promotion lasts now through March.”
But as word of the fundraising arrangement disseminated, some expressed displeasure, which prompted the corporate office to reportedly take notice. It released a statement on Thursday that the “Give Back” effort for Planned Parenthood had been discontinued.

A soon-to-be-released documentary-style film, featuring footage from around the U.S. and interviews with over a dozen scholars and scientists, will provide visual evidence and scientific arguments for the Bible’s accounts of Creation and the Flood.
On February 23, hundreds of movie theaters across the U.S. will participate in a one-night showing of the film “Is Genesis History?” The film, produced by Compass Cinema and structured as a documentary, features interviews with respected Christian scientists, including microbiologist Kevin Anderson, astronomer Danny Faulkner, geologist Andrew Snelling, and several others.
In addition to interviews with scholars and scientists, the film’s host, Del Tackett, guides viewers through over a dozen locations and landmarks to explore the competing views of creation and evolution. Tackett is the creator of a number of media projects, including Focus on the Family’s “The Truth Project.”
“‘Is Genesis History’ is a comprehensive documentary featuring scientists and scholars looking at the world and explaining how it intersects with the history recorded in Genesis,” the film’s website states. “From rock layers to fossils to lions to stars, this fascinating film will challenge and change the way you see the world.”

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration used its last day in office to issue a memo allowing male immigrants who identify as female, and vice versa, to change their gender on official documents.
The office of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), under the Department of Homeland Security, released the memo on Jan. 19, advising of revisions to the field manual pertaining to the “procedures and requirements to change the gender designation on a USCIS-issued document.”
“Individuals may request a change in the gender reflected on a USCIS-issued document using the standard USCIS form for requesting the desired document,” it outlines.
USCIS will then “issue an initial or amended document reflecting the changed gender designation” if the person submits a court order showing that they have been granted the right to be recognized as the opposite sex, an amended birth certificate, passport or driver’s license, or a letter from a health care professional “certifying that the requested gender designation is consistent with the individual’s gender identity.”

Pastor, Eight Others Missing in Uganda After Muslims Beat, Rape Congregation
By Editor on January 30, 20172 Comments
(Morning Star News) – A pastor in eastern Uganda and eight other Christians are missing two weeks after a Muslim mob attacked a church prayer meeting, locked the congregation in, beat several members and raped 15 women, sources said.
The approximately 90 Muslims broke into the evening prayer meeting of Katira Church of Uganda, in Katira village, Budaka District at about 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 15 and beat them with clubs and sticks, area sources said. Previously Muslims had only thrown stones at the roof of the church building to disrupt church services of the 500-member congregation, villagers said.
At the evening service, about 80 members were present, and among those who escaped before the doors were locked was a Christian who heard one of the assailants shout, “Away with the pastor who is converting our Muslims to Christianity,” a church leader said.

AUSTIN, Texas — A devoted adoptive father, husband and abortion abolitionist died suddenly on Thursday after emergency rescuers were unable to locate him in time when he went underwater during a family outing at the lake.
Cody May, 31, had just recently moved his family to Texas after residing in Connecticut for many years, where he and his wife Kimberly opened their home to those needing a place to stay. The couple also took to heart the biblical mandate to care for the fatherless (James 1:27), adopting six children—three from Ethiopia, two from the Congo, and one local to Connecticut.
May was an ardent abortion abolitionist, as he sought a complete end to abortion as opposed to the incremental approach embraced by many who identify as pro-life. He often stood outside of abortion facilities preaching the Word of God and pleading with mothers not to kill their children.
May and his wife personally adopted two IVF embryos, also known as snowflake adoption, after learning that thousands of frozen embryos from in vitro fertilizations are discarded and destroyed. The pregnancy ended in miscarriage.

WASHINGTON — Just two weeks before he is expected to announce his pick for the U.S. Supreme Court, Donald Trump met on Saturday with one of the judges stated to be on his shortlist: Judge William Pryor, a former Alabama attorney general who prosecuted “Ten Commandments Judge” Roy Moore in 2003, and who vowed not to seek to overturn Roe v. Wade despite his personal beliefs during his confirmation hearing to the federal appeals circuit.
Those with knowledge of the meeting confirmed the discussion with the Associated Press on the condition of anonymity since it had not been made public by the incoming administration. Trump advised last week that he will likely announce his replacement for Justice Antonin Scalia within the first two weeks of taking office.
“I have a list of 20. I have gone through them. We’ve met with numerous candidates. They’re outstanding in every case,” he said at a press conference on Jan. 11.
Last February, following Scalia’s sudden death, Trump had cited Pryor, who currently sits on the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, as being a possible replacement.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — A Somali-American woman who identifies as a Muslim recently took her oath of office on the Koran instead of the Bible.
Ilhan Omar, a Democrat, was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in November, beating her Republican opponent, Abdimalik Askar, by 61 percent. Her election marked the first female Somali-American selected to serve as a legislator.
“We will never stop fighting for a democracy that works for all of us—for a prosperous and equitable Minnesota that we can all be proud of,” Omar, 34, declared in her victory speech. “I will never give up fighting for you, and I hope you never give up fighting for me.”
On Jan. 3, she took the oath of office at the Minnesota State Capitol building with her hand placed on a large, commemorative copy of the Koran.
“Congratulations. Welcome to the House of Representatives,” she was greeted following the oath, as a number of her supporters who were present stood to their feet and cheered.
“I think it says a lot about the ethos of America,” Asad Zaman, executive director of the Muslim American Society of Minnesota told Voice of America. “That [constituents] can embrace a Somali-American, hijab-clad Muslim woman as their representative, as the most qualified person to speak for them in the state capitol.”
According to reports, Omar moved to America when she was 12 after spending four years in an African refugee camp due to the ravages of the Somali Civil War.

WASHINGTON – A Democratic lawmaker filed a resolution in the House of Representatives that, if approved, would recognize February 12, 2017, as “Darwin Day” and celebrate the father of evolution’s contributions to science.
House Resolution 44, filed on Wednesday by Democratic Rep. James Himes of Connecticut, seeks to honor Darwin on the 208th anniversary of his birth.
“Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution by the mechanism of natural selection, together with the monumental amount of scientific evidence he compiled to support it, provides humanity with a logical and intellectually compelling explanation for the diversity of life on Earth,” the resolution asserts.
In addition to celebrating Darwin and his legacy, the resolution criticizes biblical creation, claiming it undermines the well-being of the nation’s education systems.
“[T]he teaching of creationism in some public schools compromises the scientific and academic integrity of the United States education systems,” H.R. 44 claims.
Thirteen other Democratic representatives co-sponsored the resolution, which was referred to the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.

MANILA — Over 200 were injured on Monday as an estimated 1.5 million Filipinos sought to press up against a centuries-old statue of Christ that was marched through the streets of Manila as part of an annual Roman Catholic celebration called the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
As previously reported, Catholics in the country, some holding rosaries, banners and/or cloths, seek to touch the wood carving of Jesus carrying the cross out of their belief that it possesses healing powers or can bring good fortune.
“If you seek a favor, it will be granted as long as you pray hard,” Lolit Gonzales, 45, told the Manila Times. She asserted that she had been healed of a knee injury after participating in the event two years ago.
“The Nazarene has given me everything: a stable job and health for my family,” Armando Bantayaun, 57, also told reporters.
The carving, known as the Black Nazarene for the figure’s dark complexion, is believed to have been brought from Mexico to Manila in the 1600’s. It was carried aboard a ship, and although the vessel caught fire, it was not destroyed.
For the past 200 years, millions have flooded the streets as the wooden carving is carried through Manila for its annual feast day.
This year was no exception, as some followers along the 20-hour procession tossed cloths to those who were adjacent to the carriage, hoping that they could swipe the idol for them. Some walked barefoot in the 30-degree weather to show penance and to recreate Jesus’ supposed barefoot act of carrying the cross.

(Yahoo News) — As various states move towards the legalization of marijuana, doctors are noticing the increase of a particular illness that is associated with regular use of the drug. Emergency rooms have been seeing an influx of patients with the same symptoms – severe abdominal pain and intense vomiting – and this increase is particularly high in certain states that have already legalized the use of marijuana.
While some doctors have been perplexed by these symptoms, the disease does have a name: cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, or CHS. The illness is believed to be caused by regular and long-term use of marijuana.
There seems to be a direct correlation between CHS and states that have passed marijuana legalization measures. One study shows that CHS diagnoses nearly doubled at two of Colorado’s hospitals since 2009 – the year that it was decided that Colorado needed a state-regulated medical marijuana distribution system.

‘Heretic’ Prosperity Preacher Paula White Issues Defense After Selection for Trump Inauguration Criticized Jan 07, 2017 05:59 pm
Prosperity preacher Paula White, who was invited by President-elect Donald Trump to deliver the invocation at his inauguration ceremony on Jan. 20, has released a statement in defense of herself as some Christians have expressed concern over Trump's selection of the female preacher for the event. "I have been called a heretic, an apostate, an adulterer, a...
and an addict,” she wrote this week. “It has been falsely reported that I once filed for bankruptcy and—my personal favorite—that I deny the Trinity!”
White said that she had been hesitating “to even address such patently false accusations about my personal life and my beliefs so as to not dignify them with a response.” However, since she believed the objections to her appearance pose “a potential distraction to an otherwise celebratory and historic time in our country,” she wanted to present her side of the story.

Hillsong United Band Leader Calls Jen Hatmaker’s Remarks on Homosexuality ‘Refreshing’
  Nov 05, 2016 03:50 pm
Photo Credit: JenHatmaker.comPhoto Credit: JenHatmaker.com Joel Houston, the leader of the popular worship ban Hillsong United, is raising concern after he recently remarked that he found an interview with HGTV celebrity and author Jen Hatmaker---who revealed that she believes homosexuals should be supported in and by the church---to be "refreshing." Hatmaker had been interviewed by Jonathan Merritt of Religion News Service (RNS) on a variety of subjects, including the election, homosexuality and abortion.
“From a civil rights and civil liberties side and from just a human being side, any two adults have the right to choose who they want to love. And they should be afforded the same legal protections as any of us,” she said when asked by Merritt if she supports same-sex “marriage.” “I would never wish anything less for my gay friends.”
She said that churches should offer marriage and parenting help and support for those in homosexual relationships.

Office of African False Prophet T.B. Joshua ‘Mistakenly’ Deletes Prophecy of Clinton Win   Nov 10, 2016 07:40 pm
joshua-compressedPhoto Credit: Facebook LAGOS, Nigeria -- The office of an African false prophet says that it "mistakenly" deleted his recent prophesy of Hillary Clinton winning the 2016 presidential election now that Clinton lost the election to billionaire business mogul Donald Trump. T.B. Joshua is the leader of The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos Nigeria and the founder of  Emmanuel T.V., one of the largest Christian-identifying networks in Africa. On Sunday, he posted to Facebook that God had given him a vision of the new president, and that it was a woman.
“Ten days ago, I saw the new president of America with a narrow win,” he wrote. “The new president will be facing several challenges over many issues, including passing bills, attempts to possibly pass a vote of no confidence on the new president. The boat of the new president will be rocked.”“By the way, in order not to keep you in suspense, what I frankly saw is a woman,” Joshua added.
But following Tuesday’s election and backlash over his prophesy being false, Joshua’s office deleted the post. Some sneered that his words had been removed and created captioned photos in mockery.

Clinton, Kaine Cite Scripture in Concession Speeches

clinton-concession-compressedNEW YORK — In conceding the presidential race on Wednesday, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton cited Scripture, as did her running mate Tim Kaine.
Kaine, a Roman Catholic, referred to Matthew 7:20 in comparing Christ’s parable about those who come into the Kingdom later than others to those who joined Clinton’s campaign efforts in the tail end of the push.
“There’s a beautiful and kind of comical parable in the New Testament about a vineyard owner who hires people to work and says, ‘And I’m going to pay you this for a full day,”‘ Kaine stated. “Then he hires people at noon—‘I’m going to pay you the same thing for the half day.’ Then he hires people one hour before and—‘I’m going to pay you the same.’ And those who started early in the day say, ‘Hold on. We don’t like this. That you’re treating everybody who came late just as well as you’re treating us.'”
“I’m going to tell you something, here’s what I’ve come to know so well about Hillary,” he continued. “The team that she has assembled over the years of people that are so deeply loyal to her because she’s so deeply loyal to them is inspiring. But I’ve seen that same degree of loyalty and compassion and sensitivity extended to the most recent folks who have joined the team. The folks who came to the vineyard with just one hour to go.”
Kaine became teary-eyed at times as Clinton conceded the race to billionaire business mogul Donald Trump.

Christian Couple Denied Adoption of Foster Children Over Opposition to Homosexual Parenting
  Nov 07, 2016 03:23 pm
bear-credit-michal-rybski-compressedPhoto Credit: Michal Rybski A Christian couple in the U.K. has reportedly been denied their request to adopt two foster children in their care after they told social workers that the juveniles needed a mother and a father, and not two daddies. According to reports, the couple, which has not been identified, has been looking after the children since early 2016. and has sought to adopt the youth themselves. They had initially been turned down because their house was too small.
When they were later told by a social worker that two men had expressed interest, the couple “expressed a degree of shock and asked if this was a ‘joke.'” They also said that it would be hard to explain the concept to one of the children who had said he was “waiting for a new mummy.”

Five-Month-Old Girl Wows World After Spending 17 Years as Frozen Embryo   Nov 11, 2016 12:25 pm
marley-compressedPARKER, Co. -- A five-month-old baby girl is wowing the world as her adoptive parents are sharing the story of how their Snowflake baby was a frozen embryo for 17 years before her birth. Elizabeth and Marty Wilson turned to Nightlight Christian Adoptions a few years ago after having difficulty conceiving again following the birth of their first child. The organization, established in 1997, runs the “Snowflake Adoption Program” to provide a means for remaining embryos from IVF procedures to be utilized instead of destroyed.
“Over 1,100 families have donated their remaining embryos through Snowflakes (sometimes referred to as leftover, excess, unused embryos)– allowing them to choose the family for their embryo gift,” Nighlight outlines on its website.
The organization helped match the Wilsons with a frozen embryo being held in a tube simply marked ZXZPN. The tube was dated November 3rd, 1998—long before the Wilsons had even met.

Alberta Teachers’ Assoc. Guide Suggests Teaching Children ‘Why Homophobia Leads Us to Sin’   Nov 05, 2016 01:44 pm
Classroom II pdEDMONTON, Alberta -- The Alberta Teachers' Association recently released a guide for teachers to instruct students about "sexual and gender minorities," including suggestions that children try out drag for a day to "explore perceptions of gender" and be taught "why homophobia leads us to sin." The manual, created with partial funding from the government of Alberta, is meant to arm teachers with resources to “destigmatize sensitive aspects related to sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression” in schools.
Among the guidance included within, the manual instructs teachers to use the pronouns that correspond with one’s gender identity, and to refrain from using language that separates male and female.

What Do We Know About Trump's Faith?
carey-lodge Carey Lodge CHRISTIAN TODAY JOURNALIST 09 November 2016
Trump holds his Bible while speaking at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition Forum in Iowa, September 2015.
Donald Trump will be the 45th President of the United States. After defeating Democrat hopeful Hillary Clinton in a shock win overnight, the New York billionaire will in January be inaugurated and move into the White House.

And one of his main supporter groups? White evangelical Christians. According to polls, they backed Trump by 81 per cent to 16 per cent – a larger margin of the evangelical vote than was achieved by a Republican candidate in the past three elections.
Trump's relationship with US Christians has been somewhat rocky. He campaigned hard for the evangelical vote, and initially managed to gain widespread support – winning the endorsement of Liberty University president Jerry Falwell Jr, author Eric Metaxas and pastor of First Baptist Church Dallas, Robert Jeffress. And they weren't the only ones. As the world watched on in bewilderment, numerous leading Christian figures lined up to gush over Trump's candidacy.
But he was mocked a fair amount, too, and questioned about his self-proclaimed Christian faith. When asked to name his favourite Bible verse in August last year he refused to respond, saying the answer would be too personal, leading critics to ask whether he actually knew any. A few weeks later he said he liked Proverbs, in particular "the chapter 'never bend to envy'", which doesn't actually exist.
Then in April, he was asked again by a US radio station whether he has "a favourite Bible verse or Bible story that has informed your thinking or your character through life?". Trump responded "an eye for an eye", failing to note that Jesus shut down that verse from Leviticus pretty swiftly, urging Christians to respond with forgiveness and love – not vengeance.
Of course, Trump himself has admitted that he has never actually asked God for forgiveness, so perhaps no surprises there.

He committed another faux pas and was ridiculed by Christians for referring to a chapter in the Bible as 'Two Corinthians' – the usual phrasing in Britain, but Americans typically refer to it as 'Second Corinthians'. He was derided by commentators, and students at Liberty University, whom he was addressing, openly laughed at the perceived error. (It's important to note that more than 2,000 Liberty students – one of America's largest Christian colleges – signed a petition opposing Trump, in doing so critiquing Falwell Jr's support).
Trump even got into a spat with Pope Francis over his repeated promises to build a wall dividing the US from Mexico, and a senior official in the Presbyterian Church – into which Trump was baptised as a child – slammed the candidate's hardline immigration policies.
So he wasn't always considered the true 'Christian candidate', despite running under the Republican banner, which has typically enjoyed the majority of white evangelical support. And yet, in the midst of this fragile relationship, Trump evidently won the evangelicals over.
His declarations of personal faith appeared to gain more credence among evangelicals as his campaign went on.
Evangelist Paula White was credited with leading Trump to faith, and though she refused to comment specifically, she told the Christian Post: "I can tell you with confidence that I have heard Mr. Trump verbally acknowledge his faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of his sins through prayer, and I absolutely believe he is a Christian who is growing like the rest of us. I know that from many personal conversations."
James Dobson, founder of the conservative Focus on the Family, called Trump a "baby Christian", waving away his more controversial statements by saying the candidate simply "doesn't have a clue about how believers think, talk and act".
"All I can tell you is that we have only two choices, Hillary or Donald," Dobson added. "Hillary scares me to death. And, if Christians stay home because he isn't a better candidate, Hillary will run the world for perhaps eight years. The very thought of that haunts my nights and days."

Support did appear to be crumbling just a few weeks ago following the release of a video tape from 2005 in which Trump could be heard openly speaking about groping women and trying to seduce a married woman. It caused particular waves among conservative voters and previously supportive voices, including theologian Wayne Grudem, began to waver.
Grudem announced that he was withdrawing his support for the Republican candidate and urged Trump to pull out from the race. (He then later changed his mind again – announcing that he would vote for Trump after all.)
Evangelical author Beth Moore spoke publicly of her own experience of sexual assault and said to evangelical leaders who still supported Trump: "Try to absorb how acceptable the disesteem and objectifying of women has been when some Christian leaders don't think it's that big a deal." Russell Moore, of the Southern Baptist Commission's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, reiterated his own opposition to the candidate.
But yet more stood by him.
One classic trope espoused by Trump-supporting Christians was that they weren't necessarily endorsing his 'lifestyle' by giving him their vote. Trump's repeated promises to protect Christianity hit the spot with evangelicals convinced they've been persecuted under the Obama administration, but arguably abortion won out as the key electoral issue. Many Christians consider abortion – and therefore the appointment of conservative Supreme Court justices – as the main issue. Trump's apparent pro-life stance against Clinton's pro-choice saw him clinch their votes.
Jenn Johnson, of Bethel Church in Redding, California, and daughter-in-law of leaders Bill and Beni Johnson, posted on Instagram yesterday suggesting that voting for Trump was the real way of supporting the 'Black Lives Matter' movement because of the high number of black women who have abortions:
A petition signed by nearly 80 evangelical leaders last month said Trump's candidacy had "given voice to a movement that affirms racist elements in white culture." "This is a campaign run on racial resentment and white nationalism," Jim Wallis, founder and president of Sojourners, told Christian Today. And yet, abortion evidently remained the key issue for evangelical voters – over and above the treatment of minority groups.
Jeffress told National Public Radio: "What they're [evangelicals] saying is this is a binary choice between one candidate, Donald Trump – who is pro-life, pro-religious liberty, pro-conservative justices of the Supreme Court – and another candidate, Hillary Clinton, who has an opposite view on all of those issues."
Falwell even said he would continue to support Trump if the numerous allegations of sexual assault lodged against him proved to be true, because he was better "qualified" for presidency than Clinton – a viewpoint directly contradicted by 50 former national security officials, among numerous others. In a letter published in August, the signatories warned that Trump "lacks the character, values and experience to be president... He weakens US moral authority as the leader of the free world."
Of course, whatever Trump's true faith – or the legitimacy of the reasons behind his evangelical support – it remains that he will take office in January and lead the US for the next four years, at least.
Evangelical figures across the political spectrum today signed a declaration calling for unity amid the "deeply divisive nature of this election cycle". Christians around the world will be looking to these leaders to see how gracefully they live that out.

‘You Don’t Have to Like Her’: Oprah Winfrey Endorses Clinton for President on T.D. Jakes Show   Oct 26, 2016 02:00 pm
jakes-compressedTalk show host Oprah Winfrey recently appeared on the "T.D. Jakes Show," where she urged viewers to vote for Hillary Clinton, stating that "you don't have to like her" to vote for her. During the broadcast, Jakes, leader of the Potter's House megachurch in Dallas, Texas, asked Winfrey how the country can be unified rather than divided. "We have focused so so much on what divides us, rather than what unites us,” he said. “You brought all types of people together that normally would not be. How are we going to get that back in this country?”
Winfrey replied by praising Jakes for his television program on the OWN Network, opining that there is no platform for “public discourse” about the issues. She also divulged why she hasn’t been outspoken herself.
“The reason why I haven’t been vocal, other than saying ‘I’m with her,’ is because I didn’t know what to say that could actually pierce through all the noise and the chaos and the disgusting vitriol that’s going on and actually be heard,” she said on the broadcast, which is set to air on national television on Thursday.
“It’s scary,” Jakes replied. “At a time that leadership is so critical in our country…”
Winfrey interjected that Clinton is the only way to go.

No,’ Carl Lentz Responds When Asked By Oprah if Only Christians Can Be in Relationship With God   Oct 19, 2016 02:48 pm
Photo credit: InstagramPhoto credit: Instagram During a recently-aired episode of Oprah Winfrey's "Super Soul Sunday," hipster Hillsong NYC leader Carl Lentz replied in the negative when asked by the popular talk show host if he believes only Christians can be in a relationship with God. The episode was recorded earlier this year, but aired this past Sunday as per the Super Soul.
“Do you believe that only Christians can be in a relationship with God?” Winfrey asked.
“No,” Lentz replied. “I believe that when Jesus said that ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life’—the way I read that, Jesus said that He is the road marker, He is the map.”
“So, I think that God loves people so much that whether they accept or reject Him, He’s still gracious, and He’s still moving, and He’s still giving you massive red blinking lights, for chances to take a right turn where maybe you’d take a left,” Lentz continued. “But I believe God loves people, and that’s what this whole gospel is based on—it’s love. You take the love out of it, we’ve got a moral book.”
Moments prior, after Winfrey advised of a friend who is enamored with Hillsong NYC, Lentz remarked that he hopes his assembly is “hopefully a place where you won’t feel a certain way because of how you’re dressed, what your past is, what you might have done on Saturday night, [or] your background.”

U.K. Boy Born With Two Percent of Brain Stunning Doctors Years After Mom Refused Abortion   Oct 16, 2016 07:02 am
noah-compressedPhoto Credit: Mark Three Media CUMBRIA, U.K. -- A now four-year-old boy who is defying the odds after being born with only two percent of a brain was featured this past week in a U.K. documentary about his miraculous story. Noah Wall first made headlines in 2014 as his mother shared about how she and her husband repeatedly refused recommendations to abort and have been pleasantly surprised at her son’s progress despite a grim prognosis.
Shelly Wall had been advised months into her 2012 pregnancy that her son had spina bifida, chromosome abnormalities and hydrocephalus. As he was not expected to survive, doctors recommended an abortion—again and again.
“We were offered termination five times,” Rob Wall recalled in the new documentary “The Boy Without a Brain.” “It was never an option for us. To me, we wanted to give Noah that chance of life.”
The couple did, however, make funeral arrangements, but on March 6, 2012, Noah was born—alive. His parents were thankful to hear his first cry.
Noah was paralyzed from the chest down and required surgery for a large hole in his back. He also had only two percent brain tissue—the rest being filled with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which required the implantation of a drain.
But as time went by, Noah progressed like other toddlers—talking and singing and smiling, and defying the odds.

Clinton at Al Smith Dinner: ‘In Order to Achieve Salvation, We Need Both Faith and Good Works’   Oct 21, 2016 07:02 am
clinton-102016-compressedNEW YORK -- During Thursday night's Al Smith charity dinner in New York City, which featured speeches from both presidential candidates, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton told those gathered that she shares a belief with Roman Catholics that to "achieve salvation," a person must have "both faith and good works." "I am not Catholic. I'm a Methodist.
“I am not Catholic. I’m a Methodist. But one of the things we share is a belief that in order to achieve salvation, we need both faith and good works,” Clinton told those gathered.
She made her remarks while speaking about the legacy of the late Al Smith, a former Democratic governor of New York who was believed to be the nation’s first Roman Catholic nominee for president. He was defeated in the 1928 election by Republican Herbert Hoover after being opposed by some for his Catholicism.
“When I think about what Al Smith went through, it is important to just reflect how groundbreaking it was for him, a Catholic, to be my party’s nominee for president,” Clinton said.
“Don’t forget, school boards sent home letters with children saying that if Al Smith is elected president, you will not be allowed to have or read a Bible.

Judge Reaffirms Nationwide Ban on Obama Admin Policy Allowing Male Students in Girls’ Restrooms
By Heather Clark on October 20, 2016
Womens Restroom-compressedFORT WORTH, Texas — A federal judge in Texas has reiterated that his previous preliminary injunction banning the enforcement of the Obama administration’s recent restroom directives for public schools applies nationwide, and has refused to budge on the matter.
“It is clear from Supreme Court and Fifth Circuit precedent that this Court has the power to issue a nationwide injunction where appropriate,” U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor wrote on Tuesday. “A nationwide injunction is necessary because the alleged violation extends nationwide. Defendants are a group of agencies and administrators capable of enforcing their guidelines nationwide, affecting numerous state and school district facilities across the country.”
As previously reported, O’Connor determined in August that the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Justice had not followed the proper channels in issuing the nationwide guidance, and suggested that the departments’ interpretation of federal law was incorrect.
“It cannot be disputed that the plain meaning of the term sex … following passage of Title IX meant the biological and anatomical differences between male and female students as determined at their birth,” he wrote.

‘Clergy’ Woman’s Prayer Praises Planned Parenthood for Opening Door to Fight ‘Religious Machines’ Opposing Abortion   Oct 20, 2016 07:01 am
guidry-ss-compressedNEW YORK -- Speaking at a gathering in New York City celebrating the abortion and contraception giant Planned Parenthood, a United Church of Christ clergy woman delivered a prayer thanking God that the organization made way "for women to rise up against the political, religious and patriarchal machines that sought to undermine  right to choose." Neichelle
Guidry Jones currently serves as the associate pastor to young adults at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, and is a member of the clergy advocacy board for Planned Parenthood. She opened Sunday’s gathering at New York’s City Hall, which included a proclamation from the wife of Mayor Bill de Blasio.
“God, we thank You on this day. We thank You for the miracle of another day and for our lives,” Guidry Jones began after greeting those gathered, “and for drawing us into this sacred space and time of celebration.”
“We celebrate today that on October 16, 1916, Margaret Sanger opened the doors of the first Planned Parenthood clinic right here in New York City. And with this act of courage and resistance, the doors were opened for women to overcome the silence, and the shame, and the stigma inflicted on our sexuality,” she said.
Guidry Jones then continued to praise the organization as opening the door for women to stand against those who oppose abortion.

Barna Study: ‘More Than Four Out of Ten Evangelicals’ Rejecting Both Trump and Clinton   Oct 18, 2016 07:02 am
trump-clinton-compressed-1Photo Credit: Gage Skidmore (Trump photo)/ Zachary Moskow (Clinton photo) A recent Barna study shows that although many of those who identify as evangelical support the presidential candidacy of Republican nominee Donald Trump, more than four out of ten evangelicals currently reject both Trump and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.  The organization surveyed 1,023 adults, including 627 likely voters, to conduct its study. Those expressing support for Trump included evangelicals (55 percent for Trump as opposed to 2 percent for Clinton), those who claim to have a biblical worldview (57 percent to 30 percent), and those who believe in absolute moral truth (48 percent to 37 percent).
Those supporting Clinton included those who profess to be Christians but are not born again (48 percent for Clinton to 36 percent for Trump), those who identify with other faiths ( 37 percent to 30 percent), atheists and agnostics (61 percent to 18 percent), and Roman Catholics (45 percent to 35 percent).
But Barna found that while some have selected a side, others have stated that they don’t feel comfortable with voting for either candidate.
“Although Trump has a huge lead over Clinton among evangelicals, the most noteworthy finding in this regard is that more than four out of ten evangelicals currently refuse to vote for either of those two candidates,” analyst George Barna said in an Oct. 10 post, outlining the results.

arrest-compressed-1Photo Credit: Federal Bureau of Investigations The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) has announced the outcome of its annual sex trafficking bust, which resulted in the rescue of 82 minors and the arrest of 239 perpetrators. Operation Cross Country is a part of the FBI’s Innocence Lost National Initiative, which was first launched in 2003.  This year’s effort took place from Oct. 13 to 16.
“Operation Cross Country aims to shine a spotlight into the darkest corners of our society that seeks to prey on the most vulnerable of our population,” Director James Comey stated in a press release. “We are not only looking to root out those who engage in the trafficking of minors, but through our Office for Victim Assistance, we offer a lifeline to minors to help them escape from a virtual prison no person ever deserves.”
The FBI says that the effort spanned 55 FBI field offices and 74 FBI-led Child Exploitation Task Forces, as well as help from over 400 law enforcement agencies. Hundreds participated in stings in hotels, casinos, truck stops, and other locations nationwide—including on the Internet.

Evidence of a Young Moon? Study Forces Scientists to Rethink Lunar Dating Techniques   Oct 17, 2016 09:14 am
moonCould the moon be younger than most realize? A new study shows that craters on the moon form quicker than previously thought, which means many features on the lunar surface are not as old as astronomers had predicted. Astronomers at Arizona State University and Cornell University recently set out to measure the formation rate of craters on the moon.  To do so, they compiled thousands of high-resolution “before and after” images of the moon’s surface captured by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. The amount of time that elapsed between the before and after pictures varied, ranging from 176 to 1,241 days.
After collecting the images, the astronomers ran the photographs through computer software that identified any changes between the “before and after” images. The results showed that the moon’s surface as shown in the “after” images is spotted with more than 200 new craters that did not exist when the initial batch of photographs was captured.
“From this temporal dataset, we detected 222 new impact craters,” the astronomers wrote in a paper published by “Nature” on Thursday. The largest craters they identified were about 140 feet in diameter.
The scientists were surprised to find this many new impact craters on the moon’s surface because NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter launched fairly recently, in 2009. That means that all 222 of the craters identified by the researchers must have formed in the past seven years, which is 33 percent more than current models had predicted.

American Pastor Formerly Imprisoned in Iran Announces Divorce From Wife
BOISE, Idaho -- An American pastor who had been imprisoned in Iran for three years until he was freed in January in a prisoner swap with the U.S. has announced that he is divorcing his wife out of his belief that they are "different people" and that the "only path toward healing is apart." "My heart is deeply saddened to be sharing the news that Naghmeh
and I will be divorcing,” Saeed Abedini publicly posted to social media on Wednesday.
“There are no words to describe the ongoing effect of the trauma I experienced and my family has experienced both during and in the aftermath of my imprisonment. We are different people, and we are hurting people. It pains me to say, but I have decided the only path toward healing is apart, and not together,” he said.
As previously reported, Abedini, a former Iranian Muslim turned Christian, left Iran in 2005 and moved to the United States with his wife and two children to find religious freedom after facing conflict with authorities for planting house churches in the county. In 2012, he traveled back to Iran to build an orphanage and visit his parents when he was taken into custody.
He was sentenced to eight years in Iran’s notorious Evin Prison, but was transferred to to Rajai Shahr Prison in 2013, where he remained until January, when he and other Americans were set free in a prisoner swap with Iran.
But last November, his wife Naghmeh, who had been tirelessly urging the U.S. government to work toward Abedini’s release, announced that she would place her efforts on hold, citing marital issues.
“It is very serious stuff and I cannot live a lie anymore,” she wrote in an email to supporters. “So, I have decided to take a break from everything and seek the Lord on how to move forward.”

Colorado College Student Charged After Using Skewer to Forcibly Abort Girlfriend’s Baby   Oct 08, 2016 12:19 pm
COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. -- A Saudi man attending college in the United States on a student VISA has been charged with unlawful termination of a pregnancy and sexual assault after he allegedly used a skewer to forcibly abort the child his girlfriend was carrying.
Ahmed Almesbahi, 23, is a student at University of Colorado Colorado Springs and studies mechanical engineering. In May, his girlfriend, a Kazakh immigrant, contacted police to state that she had been assaulted by Almesbahi in August 2015 and the incident resulted in the death of her unborn child.
According to The Gazette, police obtained evidence that the woman had been pregnant that year and were provided with a cell phone photograph of the aborted baby, which was expelled from her body in a mall restroom.
Police state that he had told his girlfriend that “his father would kill him unless we got rid of the pregnancy.” The woman states that the two had married, but Almesbahi denies that the two are wed.

Christian Scientist Fired for Challenging Evolution Awarded Financial Settlement   Oct 10, 2016 07:02 am
Armitage IILOS ANGELES – An evangelical Christian scientist who was fired after discovering evidence that seemingly contradicted the evolutionary timeframe has been awarded a generous settlement after taking his case to court. As previously reported, Mark Armitage was a scientist at California State University—Northridge (CSUN) who discovered soft tissues on a large. triceratops horn that was believed to be at least 65 million years old. However, the discovery became mired in controversy when Armitage described his findings in a journal article.
“In the paper, I just presented the factual data,” Armitage said. “The only conclusions I drew were that ‘This needs to be investigated further. We have a lot of work to do.’”
Other scientists at the university were not pleased with Armitage’s discovery, evidently thinking that he was trying to promote evidence against evolution. His supervisor reportedly stormed into his lab on one occasion and shouted, “We will not tolerate your religion in this department!”

Archaeologists Uncover ‘Fascinating’ Evidence of Bible’s King Hezekiah in Israel   Oct 03, 2016 08:30 am
lachish-gateTEL LACHISH, Israel – Archaeologists digging out the ruins of an enormous ancient gate in Israel have discovered evidence that confirms one of the Old Testament’s historical accounts of King Hezekiah. In January of this year, archaeologists began an archaeological excavation in Tel Lachish National Park, which is located in central Israel about 25 miles Tel Lachish National Park, which is located in central Israel about 25 miles southwest of Jerusalem. The park marks the site of the ancient city of Lachish, which is mentioned nearly two dozen times in the Bible and played a role in several biblical accounts.
Described by some archaeologists as the most important city in Judah after Jerusalem, Lachish was a prosperous and heavily-fortified center until the Assyrians destroyed it around 700 B.C.
Several decades ago, researchers partially uncovered the remains of an ancient gate at Lachish that is believed to be nearly 3,000 years old, dating back to Lachish’s prime during the First Temple period (1000-600 B.C.). City gates were important places in Bible times, because city leaders and government officials would regularly convene there.

Catholic School Sued for $1 Million for Prohibiting Student From Bringing Homosexual Date to Dance   Oct 05, 2016 07:43 pm
sanderson-compressedMEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A Roman Catholic high school in Tennessee has been sued for $1 million after it prohibited a homosexual student from bringing a boy as his date to the school dance. According to reports, last September, all-male Christian Brothers High School (CBHS) student Lance Sanderson asked for permission to bring a male student from another school
as his homecoming date.
His request was denied, but he was told it was for “logistical reasons” as the student was from another school. CBHS does not allow boys from other schools to attend the homecoming dance.
“CBHS students may attend the dance by themselves, with other CBHS students, or with a girl from another school. For logistical reasons, boys from other schools may not attend,” its policy reads.
Sanderson had come out to Principal Chris Fay in 2012, and alleges in his lawsuit that Fay “acted as if he were ashamed, embarrassed and disapproving of” Sanderson’s homosexuality.
Following the denial, Sanderson posted about the matter on Facebook and was suspended a week after going public on the issue, which generated media attention. He also launched a petition on Change.org.

Petition Drive Underway in Florida to Criminalize Abortion as First-Degree Murder   Oct 03, 2016 05:16 pm
newborn-ii-compressedTAMPA, Fla. -- A petition drive is underway in Florida in an effort to place a measure on the 2018 ballot that would amend the state constitution to criminalize abortion as murder. "Inasmuch as abortion deprives an innocent human being of the inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, any person who performs or procures an abortion shall be guilty of premeditated murder in the first degree, and any person who attempts to perform or procure an abortion shall be guilty of felony attempted murder,” the proposed constitutional amendment reads.
It defines abortion as being “the use or prescription of any instrument, medicine, drug, or any other substance or device, to intentionally kill an unborn human being” and marks conception as beginning at fertilization as opposed to conception.
Abolish Abortion Florida, which is behind the effort, says that the goal of the petition is not only to collect enough signatures to make it on the 2018 ballot, but to also encourage politicians to put forward legislation that would outlaw abortion rather than regulate it.

Planned Parenthood President Says She ‘Doesn’t Know’ When Unborn Have Constitutional Rights   Oct 06, 2016 04:33 pm
RichardsAMES, Iowa -- The president of the abortion and birth control giant Planned Parenthood told an Iowa radio station this week that she doesn't know when a baby has constitutional rights, and that it's "not the problem we are facing in America." Cecile Richards, daughter of former Texas Gov. Ann Richards, has been campaigning this week in Iowa for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, and on Tuesday was interviewed by WHO Newsradio.
During the conversation, host Doug Wagner noted that Hillary Clinton has stated that the unborn don’t have constitutional rights under the law, and asked if Richards believes it should stay that way.
“Is that something that needs to be changed in your opinion, or should we be fine with an unborn person not having constitutional rights?” Wagner asked.

urinal-credit-bob-smith-compressedWASHINGTON -- Nearly 9,000 people added their names to a legal brief this past week in support of a Virginia school board's appeal of a ruling requiring that it allow a female student who identifies as male to use the boys’ restroom. 8,914 students, parents and other residents from across the country included their name in the friend of the court brief filed by the religious liberties organization Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) on Wednesday. Over 40 state family policy organizations, such as the Family Policy Institute of Washington, North Carolina Values, and the New Yorker’s Family Research Foundation, were a part of the brief as well. “Placing students in circumstances where their privacy is compromised and they are at risk of bodily exposure in the vicinity of members of the opposite sex is not only demeaning and humiliating, but also denies individuals’ personal dignity,” it reads.

‘Let Women Make Their Own Decisions’: Tim Kaine Reiterates Abortion Support Despite Personal Beliefs   Oct 05, 2016 10:42 am
kaine-debate-compressedFARMVILLE, Va. -- During the first vice presidential debate for the 2016 election, Tim Kaine, the running mate of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, reiterated his support for keeping abortion legal despite his own personal identity as a Roman Catholic. Kaine, as well as Trump running mate Mike Pence, were asked by moderator Elaine Quijano of CBS
News to outline an instance when they had difficulty reconciling their faith with their politics.
“Can you discuss in detail a time when you struggled to balance your personal faith and a public policy position?” she asked.
“I try to practice my religion in a very devout way and follow the teachings of my church in my own personal life. But I don’t believe in this nation, a First Amendment nation, where we don’t raise any religion over the other, and we allow people to worship as they please, that the doctrines of any one religion should be mandated for everyone,” Kaine replied.

Photo Credit: All Nite ImagesPhoto Credit: All Nite Images WASHINGTON -- Over a dozen Democratic senators have proposed a resolution in celebration of the 100th year of the birth control and abortion giant Planned Parenthood, stating that the organization is an "essential thread in the fabric of society," in part by helping to grow the economy by keeping women in the workforce instead of
of raising their children.
Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon announced the introduction of the resolution on Thursday, which was co-sponsored by Al Franken of Minnesota, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Barbara Boxer of California, Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Cory Booker of New Jersey, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Dick Durbin of Illinois, among others.
“From Portland, Oregon, to Portland, Maine, this country is healthier because of Planned Parenthood,” Wyden said in a statement. “My Democratic colleagues and I are going to keep working to make sure this bedrock health provider can keep serving people for the next 100 years.”

JERUSALEM — Researchers in Israel expressed excitement this past week after successfully using technology to decipher a 1,700-year-old scroll that was discovered in an ark inside of a Jewish synagogue.
“You can’t imagine the joy in the lab,” Pnina Shor of the Israel Antiquities Authority told the Associated Press on Wednesday.
As previously reported, the parchment had been discovered in 1970 among the remains of the ancient Ein Gedi synagogue, located on the shore of the Dead Sea. David had once sought refuge in the caves of Ein Gedi when he was being hunted by King Saul.
In approximately 600 A.D., the synagogue was destroyed by fire, and the scrolls, found over forty years ago, were discovered in the holy ark—a chest that holds parchments containing the Old Testament, known to Jews as the Tanakh.
The scrolls were “completely burned and crushed, [and] had turned into chunks of charcoal that continued to disintegrate every time they were touched,” researchers said. Nonetheless, the chunks were retrieved and placed in storage for preservation and examination.

U.S. Education Secretary Concerned Homeschoolers Aren’t Getting ‘Rapid Instructional Experience’   Sep 24, 2016 07:04 pm
HomeschoolingWASHINGTON -- U.S. Education Secretary John King told reporters this week that he is concerned that some homeschoolers aren't receiving the "rapid instructional experience" that they would normally obtain in the public school environment. King was speaking at a breakfast hosted by The Christian Science Monitor on Wednesday. During his remarks, he said that he was  worried that homeschooled children aren’t “getting the range of options that are good for all kids.”
“King said he worries that ‘students who are homeschooled are not getting kind of the rapid instructional experience they would get in school’—unless parents are ‘very intentional about it,'” the Monitor reported. “King said the school experience includes building relationships with peers, teachers and mentors—elements which are difficult to achieve in homeschooling, he said, unless parents focus on it.”

As previously reported, the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) had sent a letter to Amonett earlier this month demanding that the district remove the painting, as well as a Scripture that had also been displayed on the wall at O’Donnell High School.

zodhiates-compressedBUFFALO, N.Y. -- A Virginia man who was accused of helping an ex-lesbian flee the country with her daughter has been declared guilty of international parental kidnapping and conspiracy. A jury handed down the verdict on Thursday after a nearly two-week trial, which centered not on whether businessman Philip Zodhiates of Waynesboro helped Lisa Miller seven years ago, but whether he did it out of the generosity of his heart or to keep the girl away from Miller’s ex-partner.
“We had a lot of evidence about intent,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul J. Van de Graaf, who served as one of the prosecutors in the case, told reporters following the verdict. “We also had strong evidence about the secrecy and deception used by the defendant.”

Texas Students Push Back After School District Covers Ten Commandments Following Complaint   Sep 10, 2016 05:46 pm
stickys-compressedO'DONNELL, Texas -- Students at a high school in Texas are pushing back after a prominent Church-State separation group lodged a complaint about a Ten Commandments painting hung on the wall, which resulted in the school district covering the display. "I made the decision to cover it up until I made a more informed decision about what I should do, because I
don’t want to harm the district or cause any controversy or anything,” O’Donnell Independent School District Dr. Cathy Amonett told reporters on Friday.
The Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation had sent a letter to Amonett this week demanding that the district remove the painting, as well as a Scripture that had also been displayed on the wall at O’Donnell High School.
“By displaying a religious message in its entryway, O’Donnell ISD infringes on its students’ constitutionally protected religious freedom,” the letter read. “By endorsing a religious message, the school district violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.”

Obama Lauds Buddhism, Tours Temple During Laos Trip   Sep 11, 2016 12:52 pm
obama-buddhist-temple-compressedPhoto Credit: Screenshot Reuters VIENTIANE, Laos -- During his trip to Laos on Tuesday for the East Asia Summit, Barack Obama lauded the Buddhist religion as giving "strength" to its people, and toured a Buddhist temple where he had photo-op with monks. "n countless stupas and in your daily lives, we see the strength that draws-—so many of you—from your Buddhist faith, a faith that tells you that you have a moral duty to each other, to live with kindness and honesty, and that we can help end suffering if we embrace the right mindset and the right actions,” he said during a speech at Lao National Cultural Hall in Vientiane.
“And in literature like the epic of Sinxay, we see the values that define the people of Laos, which is modesty and compassion, and resilience and hope,” Obama stated.
He also spoke of the partnership between the U.S. and Laos, and his plans to work together on educational, economic and environmental issues, as well as to continue to make amends for the 1960-1970’s bombings in the country that left millions of undetonated explosive devices throughout Laos.
“Over the years, thousands of Laotians have been killed or injured—farmers tending their fields, children playing. The wounds—a missing leg or arm—last a lifetime. And that’s why, as president, I’ve dramatically increased our funding to help remove these unexploded bombs,” Obama said.

ISIS Releases Video of Jihadis Slaughtering Prisoners Hung From Meat Hooks on Islamic Eid al-Adha   Sep 17, 2016 02:19 pm
isis-still-compressedJihadis with the barbaric Islamic group ISIS released a gruesome video this past week showing yet another twisted way that ISIS has devised to execute prisoners: hanging them from meat hooks at a slaughterhouse. According to reports, the execution took place in Deir ez-Zor, Syria and involved approximately two dozen prisoners who were accused of being spies for
the U.S. coalition against ISIS. The footage of their killing was released the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha, which commemorates Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son (Muslims believe it was Ishmael on the altar while Scripture states it was Isaac).
“In some traditionally Muslim countries, families or groups of families may purchase an animal known as udhiya, usually a goat or sheep, to sacrifice,” online summaries of the holiday explain. “In these countries, groups of people may purchase a whole carcass from a butcher or slaughterhouse and divide it amongst themselves or just buy generous portions of meat for a communal meal on Eid-al-Adha.”
In the ISIS footage, instead of animals, human prisoners were hung upside down on meat hooks at a Syrian slaughterhouse and then had their throats slit like livestock. Their blood was drained down grates as if in a ceremonial ritual.
Christian News Network has chosen not to show the video, which the group Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently has warned should not be seen by any human. Founder Abu Mohammed characterized the gruesome footage as “the worst video we saw,” commenting that Daesh had slaughtered the men “like sheep.”

Canadian pastor is standing firm after being ordered to allow gay-straight alliances to be formed at his Christian schools. According to reports, on Sept. 2, Alberta Education Minister David Eggen sent a letter to Brian Coldwell, the chairman of the Independent Baptist Christian Education Society and pastor of New Testament Baptist Church, to demand
that he allow the alliances at his two schools as per provincial law.
Coldwell runs Meadows Baptist Academy and Harvest Baptist Academy in Parkland County.
Earlier this year, Eggen sent a letter to school boards throughout the province, advising that officials must draft and submit policies by the end of March surrounding how they would accommodate homosexual and transgender students.
But Coldwell told CBC News that he would not comply.
“I have a duty as a pastor to protect the flock of God,” he said. “And there is no way under heaven I’m going to allow gay activists to come in here and basically undermine our ministries and our religious freedoms or confuse and corrupt our children.”

U.S. Department of Housing Expands Rules to Require Admittance of Men in Women’s Homeless Shelters   Sep 21, 2016 07:19 pm
precision-made-bed-compressedWASHINGTON -- The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released a new rule on Tuesday that requires federally-funded women's homeless shelters to admit and accommodate men who identify as women---and vice versa. “Today, we take another important step to ensure full acceptance of transgender and gender non-conforming individuals in the programs HUD supports,” HUD Secretary Julián Castro said in a statement. “This new rule will ensure equal access to the very programs that help to prevent homelessness for persons who are routinely forced to choose between being placed in facilities against their gender identity or living on our streets.”
The rule now requires shelters that receive federal funds to establish policies that will ensure that those who identify as the opposite gender will have “equal access” to the facilities.
It additionally mandates that the “individual is placed, served, and accommodated in accordance with the gender identity of the individual” and prohibit shelters from subjecting the person “to intrusive questioning or [being] asked to provide anatomical information or documentary, physical, or medical evidence of the individual’s gender identity.”
And in homeless shelters where there are shared sleeping quarters or shared restrooms, the transgender person must be allowed to use the space.
“Placement and accommodation of an individual in temporary, emergency shelters and other buildings and facilities with physical limitations or configurations that require and are permitted to have shared sleeping quarters or shared bathing facilities shall be made in accordance with the individual’s gender identity,” the rules read.

Church-State Separation Group, Methodist Minister, Sue School for ‘Pushing Religion on Students’   Sep 17, 2016 11:54 am
School-Bible-pdMESA, Ariz. -- A nationally-recognized church-state separation group has sued an Arizona charter school on behalf of a United Methodist minister and an offended parent for allegedly "pushing religion on students" by using curriculum that includes text favorable of Christianity. As previously reported, Americans United for Separation of Church and State (AU), led by Barry Lynn, an attorney who is also ordained in the United Church of Christ, sent a letter last September to Earl Taylor, Jr., the principal of Heritage Academy, which has campuses in Mesa, Gateway and Leveen, to demand that the school cease referencing Christianity in its government class.
While the organization asserted that the academy’s government class is “anchored heavily in religion,” it specifically and especially took issue with the use of a textbook called “Proclaim Liberty Throughout all the Land,” published by the National Center for Constitutional Studies, which is led by Taylor.
The book, AU says, cites the divine Creator, biblical law and judgment following death.

Jury Selection Begins for Trial of Second Man Accused of Helping Ex-Lesbian Flee Country With Daughter
By Heather Clark on September 20, 20169 Comments
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Jury selection begins today in the case of a Virginia man accused of aiding an ex-lesbian turned professing Christian who fled the country with her daughter seven years ago to avoid a situation she found harmful to her child.
Philip Zodhiates of Waynesboro, Virginia is charged with international parental kidnapping and conspiracy for allegedly driving Lisa Miller and her then seven-year-old child from Virginia to New York, where she crossed over into Canada before fleeing to Nicaragua.

Zodhiates is the son of the late Dr. Spiros Zodhiates, a Greek-born Bible scholar who founded the missions and relief ministry Advancing the Ministries of the Gospel International (AMG). Report: Those Who View Images of Aborted Babies Are Less Likely to Support Abortion   Sep 19, 2016 08:42 am
Michael Marcavage of Repent America displays the reality of abortion to passersby.CALGARY – New research from a Canadian pro-life organization shows that public support for abortion decreases measurably if people are shown images of abortion victims. Whether or not opponents of abortion should disseminate images of abortion victims is an ongoing debate within the pro-life community. While some argue that doing so in an important and effective means of persuasion, others contend that the images—which often feature bloody, mangled babies—are too graphic and unpleasant.
Now new research suggests that people are in fact prone to change their minds about abortion after viewing images of aborted infants.
“The use of abortion victim imagery in pro-life outreach is perhaps one of the most enduring debates within the pro-life movement,” wrote bioethics and public policy scholar Dr. Jacqueline Harvey in a report titled “A Statistical Analysis on the Effectiveness of Abortion Victim Photography in Pro-Life Activism.” “Although proponents cite cases of lives saved and minds changed supporting the effectiveness of the strategy, opponents insist these images impede public receptiveness to other strategies they claim could save more lives.”

Girl Who Identifies as Boy Becomes First ‘Transgender’ Allowed on School’s Football Team   Sep 23, 2016 12:04 pm
cooley-compressedHALIFAX, Canada -- A Canadian girl who identifies as a boy has become the first "transgender" player allowed on her school's football team. Kennedy Cooley, 17, transferred to Halifax West High School after students at her previous school made her feel "unaccepted" for identifying as a boy. She had heard that Halifax West would be more accepting, but was still apprehensive.
“I’d heard that a lot of the guys are like family, they really get along together, they all know each other, and they’re really close friends,” Cooley told CTV News. “I was just really nervous about going in there and maybe, somebody wasn’t okay with me being transgender.”
At Halifax West, she was permitted to join the boy’s football team.
“You feel like you’re a brother; you don’t feel like you’re a player,” the teen said. “They’re just so open and they accept you for who you are.”
“That’s what he wants to be—included—and he wants to be one of the other guys,” Cooley’s mother, Pam Reinders-Cooley, said.
Her father is likewise supportive.

Trump: Women Should Be Able to Obtain Birth Control Without Prescription   Sep 16, 2016 08:56 am
Photo Credit: Gage SkidmorePhoto Credit: Gage Skidmore Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump outlined on national television this week that he believes women should be able to obtain birth control over-the-counter, without a prescription. Appearing on the Dr. Oz Show, which aired nationwide on Thursday, Trump was asked during the program whether it "should be mandated in this country that we reimburse women for their birth control.”
“I think what we have in birth control is, you know, when you have to get a prescription, that’s a pretty tough something to climb,” he replied. “And I would say it should not be a prescription. It should not be done by prescription.”
“You have women that just aren’t able to go get a prescription,” Trump continued. “So and more and more people are coming out and saying that, but I am not in favor of prescription for birth control.”
The Republican presidential nominee’s position runs counter to the 2016 Republican Party platform, which reads, “We believe the FDA’s approval of Mifeprex, a dangerous abortifacient formerly known as RU-486, threatens women’s health, as does the agency’s endorsement of over-the-counter sales of powerful contraceptives without a physician’s recommendation.”
As previously reported, in 2013, the FDA moved the morning-after pill over-the-counter, and lowered the legal age to 15 after Judge Edward R. Korman, appointed by Ronald Reagan, blasted the Obama administration for not making Plan B, and other generic variations of the pill, available to all ages.
However, some pro-life leaders believe that the morning-after pill is actually an abortifacient.
Connect with Christian News
“As all pro-life folks, and many politicians for that matter, have said for years: ‘Life begins at conception,’ not implantation. While the morning-after pill may prevent implantation, for a life that is already conceived (a fertilized egg) the morning-after pill (like many forms of birth control) makes the womb, the place God designed to be a place of life and safety, a hostile environment so that the baby can’t implant and continue to live and grow. This is by definition elective abortion,” Daniel Parks, the executive director of the Charlotte, North Carolina chapter of Cities4Life, told Christian News Network last year.
He explained that at the moment of conception, a person is already encoded with the unique DNA that makes them a special and separate entity.
“At the moment that the sperm meets the egg (which can be anywhere from a few hours to a few days) a brand new and unique human life is conceived,” Parks outlined. “23 chromosomes from Mom and 23 chromosomes from Dad. All the genetic information that makes that person distinct is present.”
Parks, the director of an organization that regularly conducts ministry at local abortion facilities and often assists women even after giving birth, said that while some situations that lead to pregnancy are certainly traumatic and sinful, killing an unborn child does not right the wrong.
“Although situations of rape are always very grievous and I can only imagine what a young lady in that situation is going through, this can’t be a reason for us to compromise our stance that all human life should be protected and ‘life begins at conception,’” he stated. “And if we’re going to be consistent and always ‘err on the side of life,’ then to stand on our convictions we can not support and most certainly can not champion things like the morning-after pill.”

SEPTEMBER 14, 2016
This weekend, the Archbishop of Vienna added his name to the growing list of prelates who are publicly recognizing that the ultimate aim of many Muslims is the conquest of Europe.

In his homily at Sunday Mass, Cardinal Christoph Schönborn (pictured) warned that “Europe is on the verge of forfeiting its Christian heritage,” noting that this loss, which is already being felt, is “not only economic, but above all human and religious.”

Cardinal Schonborn

The Viennese Cardinal asked the large congregation gathered in Saint Stephen’s cathedral church: “Will there be an Islamic conquest of Europe?”

“Many Muslims want that and say: ‘Europe is finished,’” he said.

The Mass celebrated on 9/11 commemorated the Catholic feast of the “Holy Name of Mary,” which was instituted 332 years ago in gratitude for the liberation of Vienna from the Ottoman Turks. The Battle of Vienna, between the allied Christian forces and 90,000 Islamic invaders, was waged on September 11 and 12, 1683, and marked the turning point in Europe’s 300-year struggle against Islam.

Against this serious backdrop man must first rely on the mercy of God, the Cardinal said. “God have mercy on Europe and on thy people, who are in danger of forfeiting our Christian heritage,” he prayed.

The feast also coincided with the tenth anniversary of Pope Benedict XVI’s historic “Regensburg Address,” in which he spoke of the important relationship between faith and reason, underscoring differences between the Christian understanding of God and the Muslim concept of Allah.

Whereas for Christians, “not to act in accordance with reason is contrary to God’s nature,” Benedict said, “for Muslim teaching, God is absolutely transcendent. His will is not bound up with any of our categories, even that of rationality.”

Benedict offered these reflections after having quoted a 14th-century Byzantine emperor Manuel II Paleologus regarding the place of violence in Islamic practice.

“Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached,” the citation ran.

Although Benedict acknowledged that the emperor spoke with a “startling brusqueness,” which today “we find unacceptable,” his remarks set off a wave of Muslim retaliation.

An Italian nun was shot to death in Somalia hours after a leading Somali cleric condemned the Pope’s comments. Five churches were firebombed on the West Bank and Gaza strip, while in India and Iraq the pontiff was burned in effigy.

Pakistan’s parliament adopted an official resolution condemning the pope, and its Foreign Ministry demanded that the Vatican’s ambassador apologize for Benedict’s remarks.

SEPTEMBER 14, 2016
Parents at an east London school are furious because they were given just “three days’ notice” that the school would be partially closing for the Muslim holy festival Eid al-Adha.

Chobham Academy
Chobham Academy, an independent mixed academy with 1,800 pupils ranging from ages three to 18, informed parents last week its nursery, reception, and Year 1 and 2 classes would not be held on Monday due to a “high number of staff requesting leave for religious observance, giving families just days to find childcare arrangements.”
“Please accept my sincere apologies for the short notice which could not be helped and for the disruption to the beginning of the new academic year,” the school’s primary principal, Mark Elms, said in a letter to parents.
The school has been accused by critics of penalizing working parents.
“It’s outrageous that they have done this at such short notice,” one disgruntled mom told the Sun.
“We wouldn’t mind if it was included in the school calendar so we all knew well in advance that this was happening but to suddenly spring it on us just three days before is unacceptable.
“People have jobs and lives and will find it difficult to get childcare at such short notice,” added the woman, who did not want to be named.
Another parent at the school, Pedro Martin, who works as a Spanish tutor, told the MailOnline that he was forced to take time off work to look after his two sons, aged four and six.

Oklahoma Woman, Adult Daughter Charged With Incest After Authorities Learn of ‘Marriage’   Sep 09, 2016 01:46 pm
-- An Oklahoma woman and her adult daughter are behind bars after authorities discovered that they were involved in an incestuous relationship in "marrying" each other earlier this year. According to reports, the Department of Human Services (DHS) contacted the Duncan Police Department after visiting the home of Patricia Spann, 43, for a child welfare investigation. It found that Spann was living with three of her children, who had been previously taken from her custody and adopted by their paternal grandmother.
Spann reportedly had no contact with her children for years, but when she met her daughter Misty, now 25, the two “hit it off,” she told DHS officials. She also said that she looked into the ramifications of marrying her biological daughter, but determined “that because her name was no longer listed on Misty’s birth certificate, she felt no laws had been violated.”

An evolution-propagandizing illustrated children’s book is drawing praise from the secular community and currently ranks as a best seller on Amazon.com. “Annabelle & Aiden: The Story Of Life” is a 26-page children’s book that was published last month. Advertised as an “inspirational storybook” that will help kids  “gain a basic understanding of evolution,” the book walks readers through the history of life according to Charles Darwin.
Featuring a “wise owl” who describes evolution to two young girls named Annabelle and Aiden, the book proselytizes evolution using rhyming text and whimsical illustrations.
“Why do we look the way that we do? With hands and feet in neat sets of two?” asks Anabelle in the book’s opening pages. “What made my eyes? And what made my nose? And the shape of my body from my head to my toes?

‘Mother Teresa’ Declared a Saint by ‘Pope Francis’ After Being Credited With Miracles in Death   Sep 05, 2016 01:20 pm
Photo Credit: Manfredo Ferrari ROME -- Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, also known as “Mother Teresa,” was declared a venerated saint on Sunday after she met the Vatican's requirement of being credited with the purported healing of two people through what Roman Catholics believe is her intercession in death. "fter due deliberation and frequent prayer for divine and having sought the counsel of many of our brother bishops, we declare and define Blessed Teresa of Calcutta to be a saint, and we enroll her among the saints, decreeing that she is to be venerated as such by the whole church,” Jorge Bergoglio, also known as Pope Francis, declared at the Vatican before an estimated crowd of 120,000 people on Sunday.
A large painting of Bojaxhiu was displayed during the announcement, during which time Bergoglio stated that some might forget to now call her “Saint Teresa” instead of “Mother Teresa.”
“She bowed down before those who were spent, left to die on the side of the road, seeing in them their God-given dignity,” Bergoglio said, referring to Bojaxhiu’s work among the poor. “She made her voice heard before the powers of this world, so that they might recognize their guilt for the crime of poverty they created.”

(Breitbart) — In his message for the “World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation” Thursday, Jorge Bergoglio, who also goes by the name of "Pope Francis" as head of Roman Catholicism, said that human-induced global warming, as well as a loss of biodiversity are “sins” against God, which must be atoned for by planting trees, avoiding the use of plastic and paper and “separating refuse.”
“Global warming continues, due in part to human activity,” Francis said, adding that “2015 was the warmest year on record, and 2016 will likely be warmer still.”

The video, Law Enforcement and the Transgender Community, was produced by the DOJ’s Community Relations Service and features role playing skits to show officers how they are to respond to certain scenarios involving transgendered persons.
“Transgender people are just trying to be their true selves and live their lives as members of our communities just like anyone else,” states narrator Sgt. Atheist Activist Group Seeks Removal of Ten Commandments Painting in County Clerk’s Office   Sep 04, 2016 03:15 pm
Ten Commandments-compressedCADIZ, Ky. -- A prominent professing atheist organization that targets what it believes are violations of the separation of Church and State is seeking the removal of a Ten Commandments painting in the office of a Kentucky county clerk. The Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) recently sent a letter to Carmen Finley, the clerk of Trigg County to request that the painting be removed, citing an unidentified complainant.
“The Ten Commandments display violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment,” the correspondence read. “Given the content of the display and the fact that it originally appeared as a lone display, a reasonable observer would view it as an endorsement of religion by the county.”

Youth Minister No Longer Allowed to Reach Students at Illinois School Following Atheist Complaint   Aug 31, 2016 10:52 am
lunchroomHARRISBURG, Ill. -- A Baptist youth minister is no longer allowed to reach students at an Illinois high school after a professing atheist organization lodged a complaint, asserting that his presence violated the U.S. Constitution.
The Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) had sent a letter to the Harrisburg School District this past February.
after an unidentified community member advised the group that the minister was leading a Christian club of sorts during the lunch period at Harrisburg Middle School.
Students had been sent home with permission slips to occasionally meet with the Baptist leader during lunch breaks, who also provided students with pizza and soda.
But FFRF told the district that the concept was “predatory” and urged officials to ban the youth minister from the premises.

Fen-compressedA moving video of a Chinese girl joyfully running into the arms of her adoptive parents has gone viral, causing tears of happiness for thousands of viewers worldwide. The video was posted earlier this month by Michael and Meg Foster of Lockport, New York, as it captured what is known as the "gotcha" moment of their 11-year-old daughter Fen of Guangzhou,  China and the great joy she expressed in finally being a part of a family.
“She comes out from behind a curtain (our hearts skip a beat), squints (she needs glasses), takes a couple steps, spots Meg, proclaims ‘Mama? Mama!’ and runs and leaps into her arms and gives a huge hug while repeating ‘Mama,” the couple explained in a play-by-play on Facebook.
Fen, with a big smile, tells Meg in Mandarin that she missed her and proceeds to also give her new dad a hug as well, calling him “Baba” or Father.

Chicago Man Who Identifies as Woman Sues Over City’s Ban on Toplessness in Bars   Aug 29, 2016 09:55 am
Sullivan-compressedCHICAGO -- A Chicago man who identifies as a woman has filed a federal lawsuit over the city's ban on toplessness in bars, asserting that it is discriminatory against women. The 23-year-old man, who goes by Bea Sullivan-Knoff, was filed Wednesday and is the next step after city council members refused calls to relax Chicago's nudity laws as they pertain to bars and strip clubs.
Current statutes outline that facilities holding liquor licenses may not “permit any employee, entertainer or patron to engage in any live act, demonstration, dance or exhibition on the licensed premises which exposes to public view … any portion of the female breast…”
Sullivan-Knoff, a self-described “queer transgender woman, poet, playright and performance artist,” asserts that in his case, performing topless would help to combat negative societal perceptions about those who identify as transgender.

‘The Darwinian View is False’: Ph.D. Biologist Dismantles Evolution in New Book   Aug 22, 2016 08:37 am
Photo Credit: YouTubePhoto Credit: YouTube An accomplished molecular biologist with more than two decades of research experience has come out with a new book in which he describes crippling weaknesses in the theory of evolution and argues instead that life must have been invented by God. Dr. Douglas Axe is a credentialed scientist who earned a Ph.D. from California Institute of Technology and held a number of research positions at the University of Cambridge. The author of numerous scientific papers, Axe currently serves as director of Biologic Institute—a non-profit organization committed to researching biology and the origin of life.
Axe says he first became interested in evolution while working on his Ph.D. in California, so at Cambridge he extensively studied DNA and proteins.
“[My strategy was] to look at the constraints on gene sequences and protein sequences and see if the constraints were loose enough that evolution could work or if they were too tight so that evolution couldn’t work,” Axe said in a recent interview with the Discovery Institute.
While conducting his research at Cambridge, Axe began to doubt the validity of Darwin’s ideas.
“I was consistently starting to find that [the constraints on gene and protein sequences] were too tight—that the target that had to be hit for something to work as an enzyme was too small for accidental changes, accidental mutations,” he said.
Axe decided that Darwin’s natural selection observations were valid and scientifically sound. However, based on his research, he concluded that evolutionary processes are unable to create new species and life forms.

Johns Hopkins Psychiatrists Assert There Is No ‘Scientific Evidence’ People Are Born Homosexual   Aug 25, 2016 10:56 am
McHugh-compressedBALTIMORE, Md. -- Two psychiatrists from Johns Hopkins University assert in a new report that there is no scientific evidence to support that people are born homosexual or innately oriented to have sexual relations with the same gender. The report, Sexuality and Gender: Findings from the Biological, Psychological, and Social Sciences, was written by Dr. Lawrence Mayer and Dr. Paul McHugh and published in The New Atlantis.
“Some of the most widely held views about sexual orientation, such as the ‘born that way’ hypothesis, simply are not supported by science,” the men write. “The literature in this area does describe a small ensemble of biological differences between non-heterosexuals and heterosexuals, but those biological differences are not sufficient to predict sexual orientation, the ultimate test of any scientific finding.”
Mayer and McHugh state that their conclusion is based on 200 peer-reviewed studies in matters such as epidemiology, genetics, psychiatry and neuroscience, as well as embryology.

The "Declaration on the Way" was approved 931-9 during the denominational assembly at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. According to an official press release by the ELCA, members stood and applauded following the vote.
The declaration “seeks to make more visible the unity we share by gathering together agreements reached on issues of church, Eucharist and ministry,” the document outlines. However, it is called “on the way” because “dialogue has not yet resolved all the church-dividing differences on these topics.

Discovery of Ancient Synagogue in Galilee Deemed ‘Very Important for Christians’   Aug 23, 2016 05:32 pm
Synagogue-compressedJERUSALEM -- An ancient synagogue recently discovered in Israel has been deemed an important find for Christians as it confirms text found in the New Testament. The synagogue, uncovered in Tel Reches Peak near Mount Tabor in the Galilee, dates back to the second temple era. Researchers found a large room nine meters high by eight meters wide, which was lined
with benches of limestone blocks. A foundational pillar was also discovered in the rubble.
“This is the first synagogue of its kind in the Galilee villages,” Dr. Motti Aviam, a researcher at the Kinneret Institute for Galilean Archaeology, told YNet News. “In Migdal, for example, there is a synagogue but that is a big city. Here we are talking about a magnificent agricultural area about four Dunam in size where buildings are decorated with frescoes and stucco articles.”

‘Pope Francis’ Claims Mary Was ‘Assumed Into Heaven Body and Soul’ on Feast of Assumption
By Heather Clark on August 15, 201667 Comments

Pope_FrancisROME — Jorge Bergoglio, also known as “Pope Francis,” asked for Mary to intercede for the oppressed on Monday and claimed to the thousands gathered to observe what is known as the Roman Catholic “Feast of the Assumption” that she had been “assumed into Heaven body and soul.”
“To the Queen of Peace, who we contemplate today in heavenly glory, I wish to entrust once again the anxieties and sufferings of the people who, in many parts of the world, are innocent victims of persistent conflict,” he said.
The Feast of the Assumption marks the Roman Catholic belief that Mary ascended into Heaven and did not suffer a physical death, although as the outlet American Catholic notes, “Scripture does not give an account of Mary’s assumption into heaven.”
The dogma was made an official Catholic doctrine by Pius XII, who wrote in 1950, “We pronounce, declare and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma that the immaculate mother of God, the ever virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul to heavenly glory.”
Bergoglio echoed this belief on Monday as he read what is known as the Magnificat and led those gathered in a recitation of the Angelus Domini.
“She was the first to believe in the Son of God and is the first to have been assumed into Heaven body and soul,” he said.
Bergoglio stated that Mary was the first to have held the Son of God in her arms “and is the first to have been welcomed by his arms to be introduced into the eternal kingdom of the Father.”
Connect with Christian News
“Mary, a humble and simple girl from a remote village in the outskirts of the empire, because she welcomed and lived the gospel, was permitted by God to stand next to the throne of the Son for all eternity,” Bergoglio stated.
However, Mike Gendron of Proclaiming the Gospel Ministries in Plano, Texas told Christian News Network that this assertion is unbiblical.
“The dogma that celebrates the assumption of Mary’s body into Heaven is closely tied to another Catholic dogma, which is, the immaculate conception of Mary,” he explained. “In 1854, Pope Pius IX declared Mary was conceived free from original sin and she remained free of every personal sin throughout her entire life (Catechism of the Catholic Church, para 491, 493).”
“After the pronouncement, some Catholics began asking a question that the church could not answer. ‘Since Mary never sinned, and sin is what causes death and the body to decay, where is Mary and what happened to her body?’ Gendron continued. “Thus the heresy that declared Mary’s sinlessness led to another heresy. In 1950, Pope Pius XII declared Mary’s body was miraculously assumed into Heaven.”
He said that Roman Catholics acknowledge that Mary’s ascension is not found in the Scriptures, but is rather only a tradition based on assumption.
“Their only basis for believing Mary’s body was miraculously assumed into Heaven is that their ‘infallible’ Church has declared it,” Gendron stated.
But, “Two thousand years ago the Pharisees nullified the word of God with their ungodly traditions and were soundly rebuked and called hypocrites by the Lord Jesus (Mark 7:6-14). Catholic bishops have made the same fatal error by rejecting and opposing God’s word,” he said.
He noted that the Bible clearly states that all have sinned—including Mary, who Catholics declare to be immaculate and therefore received into Heaven bodily.
“In Romans 3:10-12, 23, we read, ‘None is righteous, no, not one…All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one … all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.’ Mary is included in the ‘all,’ the ‘none’ and the ‘no one,'” Gendron said. “Instead of celebrating the assumption of Mary, Catholics would be wise to study the Scriptures so they can know the truth, which will set them free from religious bondage and deception (John 8:31-32).”

Fascinating Footage of Brazilian Baby Born Still in Amniotic Sac Goes Viral

baby sac-compressedSAO PAULO, Brazil — Video footage of a baby who remained inside the intact amniotic sac after being birthed via C-section has gone viral, stunning viewers with a glimpse of life inside the womb.
The footage reportedly comes from Sao Paulo and is considered a phenomenon as it occurs in approximately 1 out of 80,000 births.
According to Babies Online, the amniotic sac serves a number of purposes. It provides cushion to the baby to protect him or her from harm, and helps maintain an even temperature in the womb so that the child does not become too hot or cold.
“Amniotic fluid also helps your baby develop his lungs,” the site outlines. “While in the womb your baby practices breathing by breathing in and out the water in the amniotic sac. The baby swallows and inhales the amniotic fluid and replaces the volume in the amniotic sac by urinating and exhaling the liquid.”
The sac normally breaks during birth or is cut open during a C-section.
In the online footage of the birth, the child can be seen partially emerged from his mother’s belly, still in the sac. Doctors and nurses play with the baby by poking his feet.
The video then cuts to footage of the child placed on a table with the sac still completely intact. The baby can be seen moving inside, the umbilical cord wrapped around his face.

Nurse Giselle Correa told the outlet Diario de Regiao that doctors were fascinated that the amniotic sac hadn’t ruptured, and asked if it would be okay to record the occasion.
“When I saw that scene, I asked the doctor if I could take a picture and then to shoot,” she said. “I could see the child moving. I am a prepared professional and helped in other births, but for me, that moment was unique.”
Correa advised that the child was a twin and that both he and his brother are fine.
“For me, the image shows the power of God,” the mother, who has not been identified, told reporters after viewing the footage. “I feel very blessed to have my children, who were born perfect.”
Correa posted the video online, which quickly went viral. The YouTube video alone has over 200,00 views as of press time. Correa believes that millions have viewed the footage as it is posted in various outlets.
“[I]t was an honor to have been able to take these pictures,” she wrote in the description.

Unborn Babies Found at South Carolina Wastewater Treatment Plant   Aug 18, 2016 03:31 pm
Treatment Plant-compressedCHARLESTON, S.C. -- Two unborn babies were found at a wastewater treatment plant in South Carolina last Monday, prompting an investigation by law enforcement. According to reports, workers at the Plum Island Wastewater Treatment Plant found the dead babies in the water on Aug. 8. as they were cleaning out the filter screens at the plant.
CHARLESTON, S.C. — Two unborn babies were found at a wastewater treatment plant in South Carolina last Monday, prompting an investigation by law enforcement.
According to reports, workers at the Plum Island Wastewater Treatment Plant found the dead babies in the water on Aug. 8. as they were cleaning out the filter screens at the plant. They spotted a small hand, then the rest of the infant’s body—then another baby. Neither child was fully intact.
Police were called to the scene, and were taken to the pump station to be shown the preterm babies.
The babies had been found in the headworks, where the wastewater flows in. Officials state that the infants could have only entered the system by either being flushed down the toilet or placed in a manhole. The bodies were turned over by police to the Charleston County Coroner’s Office for further review.
Coroner Rae Wooten told the Post and Courier that while the gestational age of the babies is not known, they appear to be in the second trimester. It is also unknown as to how long the babies had been in the water.
“We don’t have anywhere to start,” Wooten told the outlet in regard to identifying where the babies had been disposed. “It is probably a very isolated situation.”
The facility serves over 54,000 homes and businesses in Charleston, West Ashley, and James Island.

In January, a baby was also reported to have been found at the Bucklin Point Wastewater Treatment Facility in East Providence, Rhode Island. The medical examiner’s office concluded that the child was a male 19 to 20 weeks in gestation.
Police sought out the mother of the child, but no new information has been released about the matter.
“We’re hoping an appeal to the public may lead us to the mother,” East Providence Police Capt. Richard Frazier told reporters. “We’re hoping to get some tips from the public.”
The plant serves the cities of East Providence, Pawtucket, Central Falls, Smithfield, Cumberland and Lincoln.
“It’s very sad to see that a life couldn’t continue and become the person that they were supposed to be. Very, very sad,” neighbor Betty DeCrescenzo told WPRI-TV.

Drugs or Demons? Teenager Found Biting Off Man’s Face in Florida Murder Case   Aug 17, 2016 08:01 pm
Harrouff-compressedPhoto Credit: Facebook TEQUESTA, Fla. -- The Martin County Sheriff's Office is working to make sense of a double murder case in Tequesta, Florida, where a teenage suspect was found biting off a man's face. According to reports, neighbor Jeff Fisher called 911 after he had been stabbed trying to stop an attack on 59-year-old John Joseph
When police arrived on the scene, they found 19-year-old Austin Harrouff on top of Stevens and pulling the skin off his face with his teeth. Sheriff William Snyder told reporters that Harrouff was also “grunting and growling,” and “making animal noises.”
“When [the officer] got there, she realized that the offender was actually biting the victim in the face and causing what turned out to be some substantial trauma to his face from bite marks,” he told NBC Miami.
Police made several attempts to pull Harrouff off Stevens.
“Somebody not feeling pain, not responding to a dog bite, repeated stuns from a taser, taking three to four deputies and officer dog to get him off—that’s somebody with a lot more strength than you would normally encounter,” Snyder told CBS12.
The deputies were eventually able to pray Harrouff away and took him into custody. He is now in the hospital in stable condition.
Connect with Christian News
Stevens was pronounced dead on the scene, and Mishcon was discovered deceased in the garage.
Fisher was airlifted to St. Mary’s Trauma Center where he underwent emergency surgery for his stab wounds.
Snyder said that Harrouff didn’t know those he attacked.
“It’s inexplicable,” he told reporters. “One of the first things we try to do at a crime scene is try to understand the motive of the offender, because it is the motive of the offender that gets us going in the right direction. In this case, we can’t establish a motive; it’s ‘I don’t know.'”
Police are now investigating to determine if Harrouff was under the influence of drugs.
“We will be doing sampling of his blood to see if there was flakka or bath salts, which are known to cause what we call the excited delirium, and he did have some indications that we might be working with that,” Snyder said.
“Obviously we don’t know what predicated these acts,” attorney Michelle Suskauer, who will be representing Harrouff, told the New York Daily News. “But certainly, there are mental health issues that are going to have to be investigated here. We don’t know if anything is going to show up on toxicology or not.”
“I’ve got a psycho side and a normal side. I’ve lost my mind; help me find it,” Harrouff had written on his YouTube channel.
Other reports of similar instances have occurred in recent years. As previously reported, in 2012, witnesses reported seeing 31-year-old Rudy Eugene dangling from one of the light poles of a Miami causeway “acting like Tarzan,” and then pummeling 65-year-old Ronald Poppo, who was sitting in the shade on the sidewalk.
Eugene began stripping away the man’s clothing and tore at his face with his teeth. The attack lasted approximately 18 minutes before he was shot dead by police. Officers on the scene state that when they ordered Eugene to back away from Poppo, he turned at them and growled. Other eye witnesses say that he was acting “like a rabid dog.”
Toxicologists only found marijuana in Eugene’s system.

Rubio ss-compressedORLANDO, Fla. — Former Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio, who is currently running for re-election in the Senate, told evangelicals on Friday that to love their homosexual neighbor, they “must abandon a spirit of judgment.”
Rubio, a Roman Catholic, made his remarks on Friday during an event hosted by the Rediscovering God in America Renewal Project in Orlando. He reiterated his belief that marriage should only be defined as the union of a man and a woman, but said that Christians shouldn’t be so hard on those who identify as homosexual.
“To love our neighbors in the LGBT community, we should recognize that even as we stand firm in the belief that marriage is the union between one man and one woman, there are those in that community and in same-sex relationships whose love for one another is real, and who feel angry and humiliated that the law did not recognize their relationship as a marriage,” Rubio said.
“To love our neighbors, we must recognize that many have experienced sometimes severe condemnation and judgment from some Christians,” he continued. “They have heard some say that the reason God will bring condemnation on America is because of them. As if somehow, God was willing to put up with adultery and gluttony, and greed and pride, but now, this is the last straw.”

American College of Pediatricians: ‘No Scientific Basis’ That Children With Gender Dysphoria Born in Wrong Body   Aug 15, 2016 11:59 am
Children 2 pdThe American College of Pediatricians (ACP) has released a report stating that it is wrong to encourage children to believe that they were born in the wrong body as there is no scientific basis for such an assertion. The report, "Gender Dysphoria in Children," was written by Dr. Michelle Cretella and explains that the condition is more psychological
 than biological.
“[A]lthough many men with GD express the belief that they are a ‘feminine essence’ trapped in a male body, this belief has no scientific basis,” it states.
Cretella outlines that children are not born with the brains of the opposite sex.
“[T]he brains of all male infants are masculinized prenatally by their own endogenous testosterone, which is secreted … beginning at approximately eight weeks’ gestation,” she explains. “Female infants … do not have their brains masculinized by endogenous testosterone. For this reason, barring one of the rare disorders of sex development (DSD), boys are not born with feminized brains, and girls are not born with masculinized brains.”
Rather, the ACP believes that youth come to struggle with their sexual identity due to various experiences from their infancy onward.

Trump Jests to Evangelicals: Being Good President Is ‘Maybe the Only Way I’m Going to Get to Heaven’   Aug 13, 2016 04:21 pm
Photo Credit: Gage SkidmorePhoto Credit: Gage Skidmore ORLANDO, Fla. -- Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump jested to a gathering of evangelicals on Thursday that winning the election and being a good president might perhaps be his only way of getting to Heaven. "I want to just say that whatever you can do ... This will be an election that will go down in the history books and...
for evangelicals, for the Christians, for everybody, for everybody of religion,” he said at an Orlando gathering of an estimated 700 pastors hosted by the American Renewal Project. “This will be maybe the most important election that our country has ever had.”
“So go out and spread the word and once I get in, I will do my thing that I do very well,” Trump declared. “And I figure it’s probably maybe the only way I’m going to get to Heaven. So I better do a good job. Okay? Thank you. Thank you very much.”
The remark drew laughter from those in attendance.

Four-Year-Old Abused Arkansas Girl Tells Police She Thought Her Name Was ‘Idiot’   Aug 18, 2016 05:04 pm
teddy pdHOT SPRINGS, Ark. -- Police in Arkansas made a heartbreaking discovery on Friday after being called to a Hot Springs home where a four-year-old girl had been so verbally and physically abused that she thought her name was "Idiot." Upon receiving a call from the Cooper-Anthony Mercy Child Advocacy Center on an abuse tip, they found
the child bruised with a black eye and swollen cheek, and dried blood near her mouth. The girl also had bruising on her bottom and legs, as well as marks from being secured to furniture with zip ties.
When officers asked the girl asked the girl for her name, she responded, “Idiot.”
Police soon discovered that the child, who had been living with her mother Jennifer Denen, 30, and Denen’s live-in boyfriend, Clarence Reed, 47, had been regularly called an “idiot” by Reed instead of her birth name.

Ethan Buckley, 21, has been charged with first-degree assault and domestic violence after stabbing his father, David Buckley, 40, in the neck at Hillvue Heights Church in Bowling Green. The two had been

“I was praying at the altar when I heard a commotion,” member Brent Duvall told the Bowling Green Daily News. “I thought it was someone going into cardiac arrest or a seizure.”
Member Chris Allen, who saw the attack unfold from the balcony, told local television station WBKO that he called out “knife” to alert others in the service.

Grimm-compressedPhoto Credit: ACLU RICHMOND, Va. -- A federal judge in Virginia has ordered a local school board to allow a female student who identifies as male to use the the boys' restroom at her public high school. As previously reported, Gavin Grimm, now 17, told reporters in December 2014 that she began using the boys' restroom after obtaining permission from the school  principal when she expressed disapproval over being forced to use the nurse restroom.
“I’m not a girl. I’m not using the girl’s restroom,” Grimm stated. “So I said, ‘Hey, where can I use the restroom?’ … And so they said, ‘Use the nurse’s room,’ and at the time I was fine with that, because I was still afraid—I didn’t know how my peers would react. So, I didn’t want to push the envelope any further than I had to all at once.”
But she said that the option soon became a problem.
“The nurse’s office is at least a three minute walk from the class I have closest to it. It took a substantial amount of time out of my class time, and it was embarrassing,” Grimm said. “When you’re gone for 15 minutes at a time to use the bathroom, what are high schoolers gonna think? It’s humiliating and it’s alienating.”

Harvard Professor Who Touted ‘Gospel of Jesus’ Wife’ Now Believes Papyrus Is Likely Fake   Jun 25, 2016 11:09 am
Papyrus-compressedCAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- A Harvard professor who made headlines in 2012 when she unveiled a papyrus scrap that she touted as potential evidence that Jesus was married, now believes that the inscription on the papyrus is likely fake. "If you ask me today which direction am I leaning more toward---ancient text or a modern forgery---based on this new evidence, I'm leaning toward modern forgery,” Karen King told the Associated Press this week.
King was referring to allegations that Walter Fritz, the Florida man who owns the papyrus fragment, hadn’t been honest with her about the origins of the piece.
“It appears now that all the material Fritz gave to me concerning the provenance of the papyrus … were fabrications,” King explained to the Boston Globe.
The papyrus at issue features a Coptic message that reads, “Jesus said to them, ‘My wife…'” The rest of the sentence is missing from the piece, which also reads, “As for me, I dwell with her in order to…”
King had been approached in 2010 by Fritz to study the fragment and have it translated. She originally resisted out of disbelief in its authenticity, but eventually agreed to participate.
In 2012, King asserted in the Harvard Theological Review that the papyrus, estimated to be 1,300 years old, was authentic.
Connect with Christian News
“On the basis of the age of the papyrus, the placement and absorption of the ink on the page, the type of the handwriting, and the Coptic grammar and spelling, it was concluded that it is highly probable that the fragment is an ancient text,” she wrote.
“Christian tradition has long held that Jesus was not married, even though no reliable historical evidence exists to support that claim,” King also remarked in a statement released by Harvard. “This new gospel doesn’t prove that Jesus was married, but it tells us that the whole question only came up as part of vociferous debates about sexuality and marriage.”
But the ink on the papyrus had not yet been tested, and the origins of the piece were unknown. Some consequently expressed skepticism over the matter, including Brown University’s Leo Depuydt and Jewish journalist Ariel Sabar of the Atlantic.
Sabar traced the papyrus back to Fritz, who found historical errors in the accompanying documents provided by Fritz. He also discovered that Fritz had studied Coptic linguistics, had been enrolled at Free University’s Egyptology institute, and that his wife had made other questionable claims, such as hearing the voices of angels.
On Monday, Harvard Divinity School published a press release noting that King had been quoted in the media as now being doubtful about the authenticity of what she had initially believed was a historical artifact.
“The mission of Harvard Divinity School, its faculty, and higher education more generally is to pursue truth through scholarship, investigation, and vigorous debate,” Dean David Hempton wrote in a statement. “HDS is therefore grateful to the many scholars, scientists, technicians, and journalists who have devoted their expertise to understanding the background and meaning of the papyrus fragment. HDS welcomes these contributions and will continue to treat the questions raised by them with all the seriousness they deserve.”
Fritz has denied forging the text on the papyrus. Further testing will be conducted on the ink to determine if the inscription is authentic or fake.

Family Group Cries Foul as Male Who Identifies as Female Competes Against Girls in State Track Meet
By Heather Clark on June 6, 201619 Comments
Wangyot-compressedHAINES, Alaska — A family group in Alaska is crying foul after it became aware that a male student at Haines High School who identifies as female is being permitted to compete against girls on the school’s track team and at the state championship.
Nattaphon “Ice” Wangyot, 18, a senior at the high school, recently qualified for the 100-meter and 200-meter finals, but some female students question whether it is fair for him to compete on a girls’ team.
“I’m glad that this person is comfortable with who they are and they’re able to be happy in who they are, but I don’t think it’s competitively completely 100-percent fair,” Saskia Harrison of Fairbanks Hutchison High School told KTVA-TV.
“Genetically, a guy has more muscle mass than a girl, and if he’s racing against a girl, he may have an advantage,” said Peyton Young of Eagle River High School.
But Wangyot says that he takes female hormones regularly to suppress his testosterone levels, and finds support in his coaches

School Calls Police on Seven-Year-Old Who Brought Bible Verses to Read at Lunchtime
By Garrett Haley on June 6,
School Bible pdPALMDALE, Calif. – A seven-year-old first grader was recently reprimanded in front of his entire class and a police officer was dispatched to his family’s home because the child had brought notes with Bible verses on them to school.

Christina and Jaime Zavala live in Palmdale, California. In January, they enrolled their son in the first grade at Desert Rose Elementary School in the Palmdale School District, according to a recent letter from the nonprofit group Liberty Counsel. To encourage her son at school, Christina gave him brief notes to read during lunchtime. Each note included a Bible verse for him to read.
The Zavalas’ son, identified as “C” in the Liberty Counsel’s letter, began telling his classmates about his mother’s encouraging notes and began reading the Bible verses to them. Each day, several students would gather around C to hear the lunchtime notes and Bible verses written by Christina.
“After this had occurred for some time, one friend asked for a copy of the Bible verse, that he, too, could have,” the Liberty Counsel letter explains. “C relayed the request to his mother, who began to send a Bible verse for C, and one for his friend. Soon, five more students asked C for a Bible verse, and C brought additional copies for them, as well. The notes grew to include a short story providing context for the Bible verse, which C would read to the children.”
However, in April, C’s first grade teacher learned of Christina’s note-writing when a girl in her class came up to her one day and said, “Teacher, this is the most beautiful story I have ever seen—C gave it to me.” When the teacher saw that the “beautiful story” on the note was from the Bible, she told C in front of the other students that he was not allowed to share the Bible stories at school but would instead have to stand outside the school gate after the bell rang.
The teacher also called C’s mother to explain the situation.
“Please tell your son that there is a separation of church and state,” the teacher reportedly told Christina.

Trans-Species? Men Who Live Like Dogs Featured in Documentary on ‘Human Pups’
By Heather Clark on May 30, 2016
Pups-compressedMANCHESTER, U.K. — In the midst of national discussion on transgender issues, the trend of men dressing up and behaving like dogs, known as “pup play,” was recently discussed in a new documentary on “The Secret Life of Human Pups.”
The documentary, produced by Britain’s Channel 4, features a variety of English men who live like dogs in their private lives—a movement that often involves living with a handler, dressing in a rubber canine suit, barking to communicate, fetching balls, having your belly rubbed and other dog-like behavior.
“In the U.K., there are estimated to be 10,000 human pups: men who dress in elaborate dog suits and behave like dogs. This remarkable documentary explores their hidden world,” a description of the production outlines.
Director Guy Simmonds says that he wasn’t aware that the concept was so prevalent in the country until researching the matter in greater depth. He decided to film a documentary on the subject after running across online photos of men engaging in pup play.
“On the surface you’d think it was a few people dressing up as dogs behind closed doors. But the more we researched it, the more surprised I was to learn how large the community was in the U.K.,” he told Newsweek. “They’ve got their own social networking sites, events and competitions.”

He continued to praise the talk show host, and said that others should emulate Oprah’s practice of thanking Jesus with each new day.

The Hillsong leader also stated that he was thankful for the opportunity to talk about spiritual matters on Oprah’s broadcast.

Scientists Beginning to Doubt Discovery Once Touted as Evidence for Evolution
May 29, 2016 11:21 am
BacteriaAn influential scientific discovery that was once celebrated as compelling evidence for evolution may require reinterpretation, according to a growing number of scientists and researchers. In 2008, biologist Richard Lenski of Michigan State University jubilantly announced that he had witnessed a “major evolutionary innovation.”   Lenski, as part of his Long-Term Experimental Evolution (LTEE) project, had been carefully observing the bacteria Escherichia coli (E. coli) reproduce in a lab. Finally, after 20 years and 31,000 E. coli generations, Lenski noticed that one of the bacteria populations had seemingly mutated and acquired the ability to process the chemical citrate when oxygen was present.

911 Audio Reveals Baby Was ‘Breathing,’ ‘Moving’ After Attempted Arizona Abortion   May 30, 2016 12:00 pm
Photo Credit: Markus KniggePhoto Credit: Markus Knigge PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Newly-released audio footage of a 911 call from an Arizona abortion facility reveals that a child who had been scheduled for an abortion was breathing and moving after exiting the womb. The incident occurred in February at Family Planning Associates in Phoenix, Arizona, operated by abortionist Edward Allred.
The child’s 27-year-old mother had arrived to complete the abortion of her 21-week-old (5 month old) baby, which is “legal” under Arizona law. She had taken an abortifacient two days prior as per the facility’s instructions, which was to have stopped the child’s heartbeat.
However, the baby survived the medicinal stage of the abortion, and the mother went into labor as the surgical procedure began.
Abortionist Eleanor Stanley asserted that she found no heartbeat after the baby was born, but when workers noticed the baby moving on the scale, one exclaimed, “Oh my G**! This fetus is moving!”  They then called 911. It is required under federal law for abortionists to provide medical care to survivor infants and not leave them to die.
