Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during a speech Wednesday at a state ceremony for the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day, warned Iran not to test Israel’s resolve, asserting that the Jewish state would respond to Tehran’s military “aggression.”

“We are preventing Iranian activity in Syria. These are not just words,” Netanyahu asserted.

“Our policy can be summed up in three words: ‘Steadfastness against aggression.’ Steadfastness on defense, steadfastness on deterrence, steadfastness against anyone who threatens to destroy us,” he added.

Without going into specifics, Netanyahu said that “the events in recent days teach us that standing up to evil and aggression is the mission imposed on every generation.”

The warning came shortly after Tehran threatened to retaliate for a deadly Monday airstrike in Syria that has been widely attributed to Israel.

Russia, Syria, Iran and the United States have all said Israel launched the missile barrage on the T-4 Air Base near Palmyra in central Syria. Israeli officials refused to comment on the strike, which reportedly killed at least 14 people, including at least seven Iranian military personnel.

On Tuesday, a top adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei threatened Israel over the air raid.

“The crimes will not remain unanswered,” Ali Akbar Velayati said during a visit to Syria, according to the official Islamic Republic News Agency.

Referring to Iranian threats of retaliation, Netanyahu said plainly, “Don’t test the resolve of the State of Israel.”

He then went on to address the Iranian people directly. “Our two ancient peoples will be able to live together again” after the Islamic Republic falls, he said.

Israel has regularly expressed its concern about the Iranian presence in Syria, fearing the long-term establishment of hostile forces in the neighboring country.

Israeli officials did not appear to be taking the threat of a retaliatory attack — either by Iran, or its proxy, the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah — lightly, and IDF forces are remaining on high alert in the north.

Iran has deployed thousands of fighters to Syria, presented as “volunteers” from Afghanistan and Pakistan and trained locally by Iranian “military advisers.” It denies having a military presence in the war-torn country where the volunteers are fighting on behalf of ally Syrian President Bashar Assad as he campaigns to suppress an insurgency now in its eight year.

Iran does not recognize the existence of Israel and routinely calls for and predicts its demise. Israel views Tehran under the regime of the ayatollahs as an existential threat that seeks nuclear arms and funds and arms terrorist groups, notably Hezbollah on Israel’s northern border.

Israel is believed to have carried out numerous raids inside Syria since 2013, targeting the regime and the Lebanon-based terror group Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran. Israel has vowed to prevent Hezbollah from obtaining advanced weapons and missiles, fearing they would be used against the Jewish state.

Findings Of New Research On The Messianic Movement In Israel
https://www.oneforisrael.org/bible-based-teaching-from-israel/findings-of-new-research-on-the-messianic-movement-in-israel/
By ONE FOR ISRAEL (Messianic Jews In Israel)
 12
Israel College of the Bible has recently conducted a study looking at the Modern Messianic Movement in Israel. It focused only on Jewish believers, even though body of Messiah is comprised of both Jewish and Arab, since the communities have different journeys, challenges and expressions. We are are one in Messiah, and count it a privilege to serve both Jewish and Arab believers together at Israel College of the Bible. The key findings from our research will be presented below, but first, a little background to put the history of the Israeli Messianic movement in context.

Pre-1948: Evangelism and Messianic Jewish believers in the land
For much of history, Bibles had been large, Latin, communal tomes, chained to the church pulpit, and the layman had no hope of getting to see what was really in it. However, after the fifteenth century, when Christians were finally able to purchase their own Bibles in their own language, there was a great awakening in eschatological interest and study of Biblical prophecy as they read about the promises that were yet to come.

For the first time, they could read for themselves God’s promises and plans for Israel and the world, thanks to the heroes of Bible translation and the reformation of the church, along with the timely invention of the printing press. As a result, the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries saw a renewed interest in Israel, and in sharing the gospel with Jewish people both in Israel and abroad.

Key Events for Messianic Jews in the Holy Land before the State of Israel
In 1841 The Anglican and Lutheran churches in England and Prussia churches decided it was time to have a Protestant bishop in Jerusalem, and appointed a Messianic Jewish believer called Michael Solomon Alexander, the former rabbi of Norwich and Plymouth in England, and Hebrew professor at Kings College London. This symbolic appointment of a Jewish man who believed Yeshua was the Messiah made an immediate connection in many people’s minds back to the ancient church in Acts, which was essentially Jewish. This theme of restoring the ancient church is like a scarlet cord for Messianic Jews in the land of Israel.
The Balfour Declaration of 1917 brought about the British Mandate which lasted until Israel became independent in 1948. During the Mandate era, there were several hundred Messianic Jews living in Palestine, and others who were trying to immigrate. Messianic Jews were deeply unpopular among other Jews, but were free to practice their faith under British Mandate. However, as the British were preparing to leave, the nations around Israel declared war and made clear their intention to “drive the Jews into the sea”. Church clerics and missionaries who felt responsible for the believers in their care were deeply concerned. If the Arabs won, they wouldn’t discriminate between Jews who believed and those who didn’t, and if not, they feared that the new Jewish State of Israel wouldn’t be friendly to them either.
Thus, “Operation Grace” was born, offering passage by sea for all who wanted to escape what was thought to be inevitable disaster by many missionaries at the time. A place on the ship and guaranteed asylum was provided under the auspices of the Anglican church, and Messianic Jews were strongly encouraged to take advantage of it.
Almost all of the Jewish believers accepted the offer and were taken by boat from Haifa port away from the land of Israel. Only three or four families remained. For this reason, there were only some 23 Messianic Jews in Israel when the state was reestablished on 15th May 1948.

The body of Messiah in the early days of Israel
Messianic children would suffer discrimination in schools, and the majority of the Jewish population saw believers as traitors at a time when Jewish nationalism and emotions were running high. A few mission agencies were allowed to stay in the new state of Israel, but very little gospel activity at that time. In the 1950s and 60s, the Messianic Jews were trying to define who they were, and to find their place in the Jewish state.

However, 1967 was a turning point in many regards. Against all odds, Israel won the Six Day War; Jerusalem was reunited, and Jewish sovereignty was reestablished over the Temple Mount and holy places of Jerusalem. Perhaps not incidentally, waves of revival also began to occur at this time. In the US, the “Jesus Movement” broke out, and about one million people come to faith in Yeshua, many of whom were Jewish. Many of these new Jewish believers immigrated to Israel in the 1970s, giving the body of Messiah a much needed boost in numbers and energy.

1989 – First research project
The first attempt to research the Jewish Messianic community in Israel was a study carried out in 1989 by Dr Jim Sibley. He noted that there was a well established but informal organization of pastors and leaders who would meet together to cooperate with one another. He personally counted just 30 Messianic congregations in the entire country.

At this time, the body was going through a process of indigenization. The language in many of the congregations was switching from the English of the missionaries to the local Hebrew language, and they were moving away from translated church hymns to original songs written in Hebrew. The community was still small, and trying to find its place in society, like a young adolescent.

Believers were still trying to fit into Israeli society and figure out their identity in the land of their fathers.

At that time to believe in Yeshua was not accepted at all, and the very idea of a Jew who believed in Jesus was met with scorn, derision, and disbelief that anyone could cross such an uncrossable line.

1999 – Second research project
In 1999 more research was carried out by two Danish Protestant believers on behalf of the Caspari Center, showing a significant advance. They counted and interviewed 81 messianic leaders, who represented 81 congregations. However, only 20% of them were led by local Israelis, and 80% came from outside Israel. They noted that the congregations were tending to become more Jewish in character, and developing an expression of faith in Yeshua that was more Israeli. Israel is a democratic state with freedom of religion, but it was very common for congregations to be harassed and persecuted by so-called “Anti-missionary” ultra Orthodox Jewish organisations who, like Paul, believed they were serving God by making the lives of believers as difficult as possible. Gradually, it became harder and harder for missionaries to stay in Israel.

The 1990s saw a huge influx of immigration from the former USSR which radically changed Israel and body of believers. Many arrived having faith in Yeshua, or at least great openness to faith. Congregation numbers swelled, and by this point there were some 5000 believers in the land. There were good connections between the leaders, but overall the community was still largely marginalised and struggling to find its identity as Israeli believers.

2017 – Third research project
Israel College of the Bible recently compiled a questionnaire that was initially sent directly to every Messianic leader, then later disseminated more broadly among the wider body of believers[1]. Here is what we found.

Growth since 1948
In 1948, there were approximately ten million Jewish people around the world who had survived the Holocaust, and about 600,000 were living in Israel. Of those, only 23 of them believed in Yeshua as their Messiah. There were some churches led by denominations and missionaries in Israel, but there were no messianic congregations at all.
In 1989 Israel’s Jewish population had grown to 3.5 million, and by this point the estimated number of believers had reached 1200, and there were now 30 congregations.
By 1999 there were 4.8 million Jews living in israel, 81 Messianic congregations, and an estimated 5000 believers.
In 2017, 300 congregations were counted. It has become increasingly difficult to accurately identify the number of Jewish believers in Israel, but a conservative estimate is now 30,000.
The growth has not been linear, but exponential. Similarly, attitudes towards Messianic believers have also come a long way. Israeli Jews used to be mortified at the thought of a Jew who believed in Yeshua, but today almost everyone we talk to have heard of this growing movement of people.

The character of the Messianic body in Israel
Our study found that 60% of the sample are first generation believers – they are the first in their family to believe in Yeshua. Next largest group is second generation – their parents are also believers. This shows that we are a young body and that the majority of growth is no longer from people immigrating from outside or from having children, but the majority of growth is due to people coming to know the Lord themselves. The study shows that Messianic believers in Israel tend to be very committed: 95% attended congregation 3-4 weekends a month, and 60% also attended a midweek meeting.

Messianic Jews in Israel have struggled long and hard to find their place and identity, but our study indicates that we are also seeing great steps forward in this area. Israel is a land of immigrants, so being “Israeli” is very important in general society and bigger thing in messianic community. Our survey asked participants, “How Israeli do you perceive your congregation to be?” The results showed that 93% perceive their congregations to be “very Israeli”, and that many of the identity struggles of the past were being overcome. Identity is made up both of what you perceive about yourself, and what others perceive about you. This research shows that we now overwhelmingly perceive ourselves as part and parcel of Israeli society.

Parameters of Jewish / Israeli culture expressed in Messianic congregations
Almost all (92%) of the congregations operated in Hebrew, although most offer translation (to Russian, English, Spanish, German and other languages). Similarly, 90-100% celebrate the Jewish holidays (100% kept Passover). 99% said their congregation actively encourages serving in the army, which in Israel is generally considered a hallmark of being part of Israeli society – almost a rite of passage. Perhaps not unconnected is the fact that one of the places where Messianic Jews get acceptance and appreciation in Israeli society is in the military. Messianic Jews serve as pilots, officers, in prestigious elite units, in intelligence units and more, and have gained a very good name in the IDF, which is no small matter. Moreover, ministry to the believing soldiers has grown over the years, helping them to stand in their faith and represent the Messiah wherever they serve.

Relationship with the global church
Messianic Jews all over the world exist on the edges of two worlds simultaneously – they are on fringes of both Jewish and Christian communities. Each community says to the Messianic Jews, what’s wrong with you? Jews say, “You’ve crossed the line, why not just call yourself a Christian and admit you’re no longer a Jew?” Some think that Yeshua was Jewish “before he became a Christian”!

Yeshua is the Christ, the Messiah, and he remains Jewish forever. Neither do we cease to be one of the tribe when we start following our Jewish Messiah. Some Christians mistakenly assume that Jewish people somehow stop being Jewish when they come to faith in Yeshua, but believing in the Messiah is the most Jewish thing we could ever do.

68% of Messianic Jews today feel a full or significant congregational identification with the Jewish people (that is, their congregation sees itself as part of the Jewish people), and the rest would say their congregational identification with the people of Israel is either “partial” or “somewhat”. At the same time, 63% significantly or fully identify with evangelical church worldwide, showing the overlap in identification with both communities.

It should be noted that most Messianic Jews make a distinction between the evangelical church and traditional churches, largely due to the persecution of the Jewish people throughout the history of the church. Our friends and family are horrified thinking that we have allied ourselves with the perpetrators of the Spanish Inquisition, the pogroms of eastern Europe, and the Crusades… There is so much painful history tied up in the traditional church, but Evangelicals are seen as good friends to Israel. For that reason, only 30% identify with the worldwide church, when all the traditional churches are included.

Evangelism and persecution in the twenty-first century
80% of Messianic Jews have reported persecution, whether that is social marginalization, discrimination in the workplace, or intimidation and threats. Some have seen posters with their name and picture displayed in their neighborhood, warning the public that they are “dangerous” and to be avoided, and others have experienced physical abuse. However, we are seeing a great move forward in evangelism at the same time.

22 000 Israelis search every month “Yeshua” or “Messiah” in Hebrew, and a lot of effort is put into making sure that they reach the answers from a Messianic point of view. Testimonies of Jewish believers and answers to common objections to faith can all be easily found as soon as someone starts searching for the Messiah. This has proved wildly successful. There are barely seven million Jewish people in Israel, yet our Hebrew language videos have been viewed more than fourteen million times!

The “anti missionaries”, perhaps rightly concerned about the numbers coming to faith in Yeshua, have been publishing a magazine called “Searching”, ostensibly for Jews who have “lost their way”, mailed directly to the personal addresses of believers. So in response, we started publishing a magazine called “Finding”, answering each of their criticisms and objections. We have also produced videos tackling false claims and libels, and exposing some of the errors within Rabbinic Judaism. This is the first time since the beginnings of the early church that local messianic Jews are publically going against the religious authorities – against the Pharisees, essentially. It has become an internal conversation within our people about our shared history, heritage and destiny.

Trajectory and hopes for the coming decades
In 1989 most of the pastors had no Biblical training whatsoever. They may have wanted it, but was not readily available in Israel – certainly in the Hebrew language. However, the 2017 study it was found that of the 300 congregations, most had at least one person in their leadership with some sort of theological training, many of whom had a degree in theology, often with us at Israel College of the Bible. 84% saw this training as “very important”. Interestingly, those under 44 years age of indicated that it was more important to them than it was to those over that age. This indicates that the perceived importance of theological training is growing, not diminishing.

Younger believers don’t feel the need to “prove” their Israeli credentials as the pioneers of previous generations did, and so we expect to see more of the younger generation being trained and confident to lead in many areas of Israeli life. There has been a sharp decline in biblical education in wider Israeli society, creating a huge opportunity for Messianic Jews to step up and contribute particularly in this area – both in bible colleges and in state universities. We believe that according to the trends we see in the research, we can realistically expect to see many more Israelis come to know the Lord, and that believers will be able to have a greater impact in all kinds of places in society.

Ages ranged from 18-73, with a median age of 31 – relatively young, overall.
47% were women, 53% men, slightly different to the general population: 49.5 % men, and 50.5% women.
56% were married and 42% single.
241 answered in Hebrew, 39 in English and 18 in Russian.
63% of the responders were born in Israel – “sabres”. 37% were born outside of Israel (compared to 75% in general Israeli population who are sabres, and 25% immigrants).
Educational level: about 60% had up to high school diploma, 40% had academic education, of those 19% had a graduate degree – similar to the general population.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threw his support behind the IDF’s early-morning aerial attack Monday against a Hamas compound in the northern Gaza Strip.

“We have a simple and clear rule that we constantly act on,” Netanyahu said during a visit to the southern town of Sderot, which has been under rocket attack from Palestinians in Gaza for over 16 years. “Strike at those who rise up to strike against you.”
IDF snipers recorded on video opening fire on what seems to be an unarmed protester on the Gaza border

On Monday, Israeli television stations broadcast a video that appeared to show soldiers using their mobile phones to film through a sniper scope. They are heard cheering when the sniper makes the shot, with one of them saying of the Palestinian who had been shot: “Son of bitch.”

The IDF said it was investigating the film but said it appeared to have been taken a few months ago.

On Sunday, the IDF thwarted a Palestinian terror attack along Israel’s border fence with Gaza. It said a “terror squad” had attempted to infiltrate the barrier by placing a number of homemade explosive devices in the sand next to it. The IDF published photos of the homemade bombs on its Twitter feed.

The IDF said it attacked the Hamas compound in response to that attempted infiltration. It is the first time Israel has launched an aerial attack against Gaza since the popular Palestinian protest along the border began on March 30th. Until Monday, it relied on sniper fire and riot dispersal methods to repel continued attempts by Palestinians to cross the border into Israel.

Netanyahu said: “We will not let those on the Gaza border, within touching distance, strike us. We will strike them.”

The IDF said it viewed “with great severity any attempt to damage the security fence or security infrastructure and would not allow the region to become a combat zone... Hamas is responsible for all events originating from the Gaza Strip and their consequences.”

The Palestinians have portrayed the Friday marches as nonviolent protests for freedom, with protesters intent on returning to the sites of Palestinian villages within sovereign Israel that were destroyed during the 1948 War of Independence.

Israel views the march as a violent assault on its internationally recognized border and has published photos of Palestinians burning tires, throwing Molotov cocktails and cutting through the barrier.

Since the start of the protest, Israel has fatally shot 32 Palestinians who were near the barrier and who, in some cases, had broken through it.

On Monday, 45-year-old Marwan Qudeih died of wounds he sustained on March 30 in the area of the border near Khan Yunis, Ashraf al-Qidra, a spokesman for the Hamas-run Health Ministry in the coastal enclave, said in a text message. According to the Hamas-linked Voice of al-Aqsa radio station, he was shot by the IDF.

The Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday accused Israel of “indiscriminate use of force” and backed a call made 10-days ago by UN Secretary- General Antonio Guterres for an independent and transparent investigation. Russia also called for a renewal of “concrete political efforts” to reach an Israeli-Palestinian accord.

France said it “reiterates its disapproval of the Israeli army’s indiscriminate shooting. Full light must be shed on these serious events.”

The French statement called on Israel “to show the utmost restraint and emphasized that the use of force must be proportionate, in accordance with international humanitarian law, in order to avoid further casualties.”

Turkey, too, joined the chorus, with the Turkish Foreign Ministry condemning Israel, including the IDF’s fatal shooting Friday of a Palestinian photojournalist.

“We expect the international community to take a joint stance against Israel, which, despite repeated warnings, tramples international law in an aggressive manner and does not even hesitate to target journalists in the line of duty,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.

Israel did not respond to either the Russian or French statements. One diplomatic official said the Turkish statement was “yet another example of outrageous Turkish hypocrisy.” Turkey has thrown dozens of journalists into jail – some for life – since an attempted coup there two years ago.

Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum posted a repose to the Israeli air strike on the official Hamas website:

“The Israeli bombardment of resistance positions in Gaza reflects the deep internal crisis and the state of confusion the Zionist entity is experiencing over the success of the Palestinian masses in the 'March of Return and Breaking the Siege' in shattering its standing and scandalizing its crimes, and developing tools of confrontation and popular struggle. The Zionist enemy wants this escalation to cause confusion in order to cover up for its crisis and crimes at the expense of innocent demonstrators, including killing children and journalists. This will only make our Palestinian people more insistent on continuing these activities and confrontations until its rights are achieved and its suffering is ended.”

Also on Monday, Netanyahu met with the families of the two IDF soldiers – Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul – whose bodies are being held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. He was accompanied by Yaron Bloom, the official in the Prime Minister’s Office charged with efforts to win the return of the bodies, as well as the release of two live Israelis being held by Hamas.

Netanyahu and Bloom briefed the families on efforts, both overt and covert, to bring the bodies of the soldiers and the two civilians – Avraham Mengistu and Hishal al-Sayed – back home. Netanyahu met with the Mengistu and Sayed families in December.

Palestinian ‘Journalist’ Killed on Gaza Border was Hamas Operative, Israeli Officials Confirm

A Palestinian killed on the border with Israel was a Hamas intelligence officer – not a journalist, as previously claimed.
By: World Israel News Staff

The Palestinian journalist killed on Friday on the border with Israel was in fact a Hamas intelligence officer, Israel’s Walla News reported Tuesday.

Yasser Murtaja, 30, died from a gunshot wound he sustained while on the Gaza border on Friday. The international media claimed he was a journalist who was shot while filming a news clip.

Quoting an Israeli military official, the report confirms that Murtaja was a member of the Hamas terror organization and served with the rank of Nakib, captain, in its internal security service.

The Israeli sources said that their intelligence indicates that Murtaja acted on a daily basis to serve Hamas’ apparatus.

Intelligence also indicates that in 2015, Murtaja attempted to smuggle a drone into Gaza for the purpose of collecting information prior to Hamas operations.

Murtaja was recently very active and had many connections with Hamas military officials who attended his funeral and mourner’s tent, the Israeli military source said.

Israeli Minister of Defense Avigdor Liberman said that Murtaja was flying a drone over IDF forces, and by doing so was posing a threat.

Speaking to Israel Radio on Sunday, Liberman said, “There are no innocent people in the Gaza Strip [border area]. There are no protesters there. Hamas has [in the past] used both journalists and ambulances to carry out terror attacks dozens of times. Whoever flies a drone over IDF forces – we will not take a chance. We warned everyone in advance. We issued warnings in Arabic, Hebrew and English. Whoever endangers his life does so knowingly.”

The IDF said it fired only at “instigators” involved in attacks on soldiers and was investigating Murtaja’s death.

“The IDF uses means such as warnings, riot dispersal means, and as a last resort firing live rounds in a precise, measured way,” it said Saturday. “The IDF does not intentionally target journalists. The circumstances in which journalists were allegedly hit by IDF fire are not familiar to the IDF, and are being looked into.”

Israel has pointed out that Hamas is exploiting the mass marches on its southern border as a cover for attacking the border fence, and has vowed to prevent a breach at all costs. The IDF said that on Friday protesters hurled several explosive devices and firebombs, using the thick plumes of smoke from burning tires as cover, and that several attempts to cross the fence were thwarted.

The majority of those killed in the border clashes were terrorists, Israel has proved.

Army clears sniper filmed shooting Gazan, denounces cameraman
Defense minister calls IDF 'the most moral army in the world,' says soldiers sometimes need to 'let out some tension'

The Israeli army on Tuesday said a soldier who shot a Palestinian suspect near the Gaza border in a recently circulated video behaved appropriately, but criticized the soldier who filmed and cheered the incident for violating military values.

The army said the cameraman, who was not part of the unit serving on the border, would face a disciplinary hearing. The initial results of the investigation into the video has been handed over to the Military Advocate General Corps, which will consider criminal charges.

According to the army’s initial investigation, the video was filmed on December 22 during a violent demonstration along the Gaza border, near the Israeli community of Kibbutz Kissufim.

The army said the Palestinian who was shot was one of the people “suspected of organizing and leading” the violence along the border, which included the throwing of rocks and Molotov cocktails.

The military maintained that the sharpshooter had behaved appropriately, firing one bullet as the suspect approached the fence after ignoring warnings and calls to halt. The army also refuted a claim heard in the video that the suspect was shot in the head, saying he had in fact been wounded in the leg.

The video came to light on Monday, leading Israel’s national television broadcast and prompting a wave of condemnations across the political spectrum, as well as some justification and support for the soldiers featured in it.

On Tuesday, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman also expressed his support for the sniper, while criticizing the soldier who filmed the event.

“The sniper deserves an honor and the cameraman a demerit,” he said at an event in northern Israel.

In the footage, the cameraman can be heard cheering as the Palestinian is shot, something the army said “does not fit with the spirit and degree of restraint expected of IDF soldiers.”

The army reportedly debriefed one of the soldiers who featured in the clip.

Though he criticized the video, Liberman also appeared to defend the cheering heard in it, saying it was inappropriate but somewhat understandable for soldiers in stressful situations.

“The IDF is the most moral army in the world, but when you are on the front lines and tense sometimes you let out some tension, so you can understand this,” he added, calling IDF troops “the best of the Israeli people.”

Earlier Tuesday, Education Minister Naftali Bennett defended the soldiers in the video and pushed back at their critics.

“Anyone who was ever in the field knows that to sit in Tel Aviv or in studios and judge the expressions of IDF soldiers guarding the borders isn’t serious,” Bennett, who heads the right-wing Jewish Home party, told Army Radio Tuesday morning.

“We are starting to judge soldiers based on the quality of their speech and whether it sounds nice or not?” he said. “Really?”

Expressing his support for the soldiers, Bennett blasted critics for judging their “inelegant” speech rather than their actions, and noted IDF troops’ role in defending Israel’s borders.

He later tweeted, “IDF soldiers protect our lives. We protect them. [We] don’t abandon soldiers.”

In the video, which was apparently filmed through a scope or binoculars, soldiers can be heard discussing the shot ahead of time, as the sniper trains his rifle on the suspect, who is seen standing next to another Palestinian crouching in front of a roll of barbed wire, several meters away from the security fence.

The Palestinian does not appear to be armed and is not seen throwing rocks or firebombs at the security fence or the Israeli troops on the other side.

“The moment he stops, you drop him. Do you have a bullet in the chamber? Are you [trained] on him?” the commander is heard asking in the footage.

The sharpshooter can then be heard saying he cannot fire because his shot is blocked by the rolls of barbed wire along the security fence.

At one point, the sniper says he is ready to fire, but his commander tells him to wait. “There’s a little kid,” the commander says.

One soldier, apparently the one filming the incident, calls over a friend a moment before the gunshot is heard and the Palestinian is seen crumpling to the ground.

“Whoa! What a video! YES! Son of a bitch. What a video! Look they’re running to evacuate him,” the photographer enthuses.

“Of course I filmed it,” he adds, responding to a question.

Another soldier is then heard saying, “Whoa, [he] hit him in the head.”

As a group of Palestinians can be seen carrying the injured man away, the photographer adds, “What a legendary video.”

Reporting on the video clip, which was the lead item on Israel’s national news broadcasts on Monday evening, TV correspondents said it was not clear whether the Palestinian suspect had been injured or killed.

‘Armchair critics’
Echoing Bennett, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud) expressed support on Tuesday for Israeli troops and dismissed the uproar over the video.

“I’m unable to comprehend what isn’t okay in the video. You can’t take a human reaction — no matter how over-the-top — from a battlefield and judge it from the armchairs in Tel Aviv,” he told Israel Radio.

While saying such a video “shouldn’t exist,” Science Minister Ofir Akunis (Likud) urged against rushing to judgment over the incident.

“The Palestinian who approached the border didn’t come to ask for peace,” he told Israel Radio.

The focus on the video came just a day after the IDF General Staff announced that it was launching an investigation into the military’s response to a series of violent protests along the Gaza border in recent days, which have so far resulted in the deaths of some 30 Palestinians.

Border incidents in the past two weeks have included two massive demonstrations in which tens of thousands of Palestinians took part.

The protests were part of a planned six-week “March of Return” that is due to end in mid-May with both “Nakba Day,” marking the displacement of Arabs after Israel’s creation, and the relocation of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem — a plan that has infuriated Palestinian leaders.

Palestinian activists have insisted the protests were civilian-led and nonviolent, while Israel has said they were often used as cover for attempts at violence against Israeli troops and breaches of the border. The IDF says the marches are a new tactic by Hamas, which rules Gaza, to conduct terror operations in the confusion of the demonstrations.

The army said that it had spotted multiple attempts by terrorists to plant explosive devices along the Gaza border, a shooting attack on IDF troops by two well-armed Palestinian men dispatched by Hamas, as well as an attempted infiltration by a gunman wearing a suicide bomb vest. Hamas, a terror group that seeks to destroy Israel, has acknowledged several of its operatives were among the Palestinian dead. Hamas leaders have said the ultimate goal of the protests is to erase the border and liberate Palestine.

A Hamas leader in Gaza promises more riots and violence against the state of Israel while the media portrays the “March of Return” as a peaceful protest.

Tens of thousands of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip tried to infiltrate the border with Israel during a six-week campaign of mass protests — called the “March of Return” — organized by Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other radical Palestinian terror groups.

Many in the mainstream media are portraying the riots as “peaceful protests” when in fact they are violent demonstrations to provoke the IDF and challenge Israeli sovereignty.

Watch as one of Hamas’ leaders in Gaza, Yehia al-Sinwar, promises more riots and violence against the state of Israel.

Do his calls for violence sound peaceful to you?

A Tunisian court bowed to pressure from an anti-Israel group by banning four Israeli athletes from competing in a taekwondo championship.
https://unitedwithisrael.org/israeli-athletes-banned-from-taekwondo-competition-in-tunisia/?utm_source=pushengage&utm_medium=push_notification&utm_campaign=pushengage
By: AP and United with Israel Staff

A court in Tunis has banned four Israeli athletes from competing at the taekwondo world junior championships after a group of anti-Israel activists who opposed “normalization” with Jewish state filed a last-minute lawsuit.

The competition is being held in the Tunisian seaside resort of Hammamet from April 6-13.

A judicial official said the court rendered its decision earlier this week after the Tunisian group known as the National Commission for Supporting Arab Resistance and Opposing Normalization and Zionism sued the president of the Tunisian taekwondo federation, Ahmed Gaaloul.

Prosecutor’s spokesman Sofiane Selliti told The Associated Press that the court decision stipulates that Gaaboul can’t invite, or host, the four Israeli athletes — Dana Azran, Nicol Adamskt, Abijhag Semberg and Tom Pashcousky — whose names were on the list of contestants.

Gaaloul told the AP in a phone interview that the athletes will not be invited because they did not complete the paperwork to enter the tournament.

However, Israel Ynet reported that registration forms were sent ahead of time, enclosed with requests for visas to Tunisia for the Israeli delegation.

After a prolonged period of Tunisian officials ignoring the request, the Israelis were promised visas to compete, but with no Israeli insignias or symbols.

An Israeli taekwondo official told Ynet that the delegation “sent all of the forms on time, including registration. We did everything in an orderly fashion to be granted visas. They never responded, and then promised we’ll get the visas. Now they’re lying and saying we failed to submit on time.”

The plaintiffs argued in their lawsuit, which was published by local media, that the athletes’ presence would clash with constitutional provisions and agreements signed by the Tunisian government. They argue that Tunisia has committed “boycotting and not dealing with the Zionist entity … in any way.”

Gaaloul said the activist group “misled the judges and used subterfuge” to exploit public opinion.

Heads of the Israeli Olympic Committee have begun to address the matter and have contacted the International Olympic Committee and World Taekwondo officials as well.

“We have done everything by the book, waited on the visas for ages and never got them, despite agreeing to compete without Israeli symbols. This is very serious,” the Israeli taekwondo official said.

Muslim Anti-Israel Sentiments in Sports
For years, Israeli athletes have faced boycotts, snubs and logistical hurdles in sporting events involving Arab and Muslim countries.

In November, Morocco refused entry to Israel’s national judo team.

In October, Israel’s Judo team encountered Muslim hostility in Abu Dhabi when the country barred Israel’s team from donning national symbols and refused to play the Jewish state’s national anthem during the tournament.

The 12 Israeli athletes participating in the Abu Dhabi Judo Grand Slam tournament were even prohibited from displaying the letters “ISR” on their uniforms to identify their nationality.

Similarly, in one of the competitions, Israel’s Tohar Butbul beat the UAE’s Rashad Almashjari, who then refused to shake hands after losing.

In February 2017, Iranian karate athlete Majid Hassaninia refused to compete against an Israeli opponent at the 21st Open de Paris – Karate Premier League in France. The Iranian’s unsportsmanlike conduct defied the accepted international code of honor in sports.

The IDF attack, which targeted a Hamas military compound, comes as retaliation for a breach of the border fence by a group of Palestinians, who allegedly brought improvised explosive devices into Israeli territory on Sunday.

“The IDF views with great severity the attempt led by the Hamas terrorist organization to turn the fence into a combat zone while attempting to damage and destroy the security and defense infrastructures,” the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said in a statement cited by Jerusalem Post.

“The IDF will not allow cynical use of civilians as a cover for terrorist activity against Israeli citizens and IDF forces, and will respond to any attempt of terrorism of this kind,” the spokesperson added.

On Sunday evening, Israeli soldiers patrolling the Gaza-Israel border found two explosive devices placed by Palestinians. The bombs, the IDF believes, were placed by Hamas operatives who managed to cross into Israel earlier in the day. In response, the IDF launched artillery fire on known Hamas positions in the area. It was then followed by a strike against a Hamas compound on Monday morning.

“The Hamas terrorist organization is solely responsible for what is happening in the Gaza Strip from above and below the ground,” the IDF stressed on Monday.

Monday’s strike comes amid a brutal crackdown on the Palestinian protesters in Gaza. The protests began on March 30 and are expected to continue until May 15. The weekly “March of Return” rallies have turned the Israeli Palestinian border into a battlefield. While Israeli forces ordered the activists to stay at least 500 meters clear of the border, protesters continue to attempt to breach the border. At least 29 people have so far been killed in the clashes with the IDF. Roughly 3,000 more were injured, according to Gaza health officials

A military airport in Homs province has been targeted in a “missile attack,” SANA reports. Although Syrian air defense systems allegedly intercepted at least eight projectiles, several people were reportedly injured and killed.
Several missiles struck Syria's Tiyas Military Airbase in the Homs governorate (also known as T-4 Airbase) on Sunday night, SANA reports, citing a military source. As a result of the strike, there were several “martyrs [killed] and wounded ,” the agency added, without specifying the number of casualties.

The attack has “probably” been carried out by the United States, the agency said, but US officials have firmly denied such allegations. While the US Defense Department is "aware" of reports of an alleged missile strike, it has dismissed the reports of any US involvement.

“At this time, the Department of Defense is not conducting air strikes in Syria,” the Pentagon told Reuters in a statement. “However, we continue to closely watch the situation and support the ongoing diplomatic efforts to hold those who use chemical weapons, in Syria and otherwise, accountable.”

France, also suspected of being involved in the attack, denied any responsibility for the military strike, AFP reported on Monday.

According to Lebanon’s Al Mayadeen broadcaster, the missiles were coming from the Mediterranean Sea, through Lebanese airspace. Meanwhile, Al Masdar News is reporting that “unknown jets” have entered Syrian airspace from Lebanon, and is speculating that the jets could be Israeli. In response, the Syrian Air Defense system at Mezzeh Air Base was activated, the report added.

Almost precisely a year ago, on April 7, 2017, the US carried out a strike against Syria’s Shayrat Airbase, launching a volley of 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles from the Mediterranean Sea. Back then, Washington justified the attack as a necessary response in the wake of reports of a deadly chemical attack in Idlib province, without waiting for any investigation into the incident.

The latest news come as Damascus faces fresh accusations of allegedly targeting civilians in a chlorine attack, which were put forward by the controversial White Helmets group, which is always to the fore in Western media coverage of the Syrian conflict.

Damascus, meanwhile, has denied the accusations, while the Russian Foreign Ministry denounced the latest reports as another example of a “continuous series of fake news about the use of chlorine and other chemical agents by the government forces.”

Talking to RT, Sreeram Chaulia, a professor at India’s Jindal School of International Affairs, noted that the Israeli Air Force has already been striking Syria in recent years, targeting the supply lines of Hezbollah. But this time, he said, it looks “like an impending US or French missile strike” carried out in response to the recent alleged chemical incident in Douma.

However, if the Israelis were behind the reported missile attack, it means that Tel Aviv has now been “dragged into the core of the [Syrian] conflict.” Israeli involvement in the Syrian war has deepened, and that is “a matter of grave concern,” Chaulia said. He also pointed out that the attack on the military compound in Homs took place after US President Donald Trump announced a withdrawal from Syria, adding that this sequence of events “puts the US back in.”

Amid escalating tensions, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the US Central Command (CENTCOM), have allegedly been compiling lists of potential targets and attack options to present to Trump and his national security team, senior US military officials told Israel’s i24NEWS.

Israeli officials had, throughout Sunday, advocated striking targets in Syria, calling on Washington to retaliate against Damascus in response to the alleged Douma chemical attack. The charge was led by the Israeli Strategic Affairs and Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, who told the Army Radio on Sunday that he personally hopes that the US would take military action against the Syrian government. Among an array of politicians, Israeli opposition leader Isaac Herzog also called on the US to take “decisive military action” against Syria. The idea of Israel’s intervention in Syria was also supported by the Israeli Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, who urged his followers “to try and stop this massacre.”

Donald Trump’s fury, meanwhile, focused on Damascus and the Syrian president Bashar Assad, whom the US president called an “animal.” The US leader also lashed out against Iran and Russia for supporting Assad, saying there is a “big price” to pay for the latest chemical attack.

Trump has already held talks with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, after which both leaders decided to form a united front against Russia at the upcoming United Nations Security Council meetings, planned for Monday. Macron previously indicated that France might consider unilateral actions, including a military strike if chemical weapons were ever used in Syria again.

DF denies deliberately targeting journalist killed in Gaza protest
Hundreds at funeral for Yasser Murtaja who dies from a gunshot wound he sustained while filming Friday in an area engulfed in thick black smoke

The Israeli army on Saturday denied deliberately targeting a Palestinian journalist who was shot while covering killed while covering mass protests along the Israeli border the previous day and said it was investigating the incident.

Hundreds, including Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh, attended the funeral of well-known Palestinian journalist Yasser Murtaja who died from a gunshot wound he sustained while filming Friday in an area engulfed in thick black smoke from protesters setting tires on fire.

Israeli troops opened fire from across the border, killing at least nine Palestinians and wounding 491 others in the second mass border protest in eight days. The deaths brought to at least 31 the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli fire since last week.

Murtaja was over 100 meters (yards) from the border, wearing a flak jacket marked “press” and holding his camera when he was shot in an exposed area just below the armpit.

In a statement released later Saturday, the IDF said it did not deliberately target journalists and it was investigating the incident.

“For weeks we have been warning against coming close to the fence and calling on Gaza’s residents not to obey the orders of the terror group Hamas and refrain from terror activities and other violent acts against Israel,” the IDF said. “Despite this since last Friday the IDF has been dealing with tens of thousands of people approaching the fence, all instigated by Hamas.”

“In response IDF forces are acting under clear orders designed for these circumstances. The IDF does not deliberately target journalists. The circumstances in which the journalist was supposedly hit by IDF fire is not know and they are being investigated,” the army said.

On Friday Israeli military sources said it was believed that everyone who was hit by IDF gunfire had been engaged in violence. Some Hebrew media reports quoted IDF officials saying all those who were hurt were Hamas operatives.

“Hamas sent children out ahead [toward the fence], cynically using them,” the IDF’s spokesman, Ronen Manelis, said on Friday night. Manelis specified that eight explosive devices and numerous petrol bombs were thrown, and that the IDF faced several attempts “to cut through the fence.”

“There were attempts to carry out acts of terrorism … using the smoke [from burning tires] for cover,” he said, but the IDF had ensured the fence was not breached.

“The army did its job,” said Manelis. “The fence was not breached and [Israel’s] sovereignty was not harmed.”

Friday’s demonstration was the second of what Gaza’s ruling Hamas terror group said would be several weeks of “March of Return” protests which Hamas leaders say ultimately aim to see the removal of the border and the liberation of Palestine.

Gaza leaders have planned a series of so-called Marches of Return culminating in a planned million-strong march in mid-May, to coincide with Israel’s 70th Independence Day, the opening of the US Embassy in Jerusalem, and Nakba Day — when the Palestinians mark what they call the “catastrophe” that befell them with Israel’s creation.

An Islamist terror group, Hamas violently took control of Gaza from Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah in 2007, two years after Israel withdrew its military and civilian presence from the Strip. Israel and Egypt maintain a security blockade of Gaza. Israel says this is vital to prevent Hamas — which has fought three rounds of conflict against Israel since seizing Gaza, firing thousands of rockets into Israel and digging dozens of attack tunnels under the border — from importing weaponry.

Murtaja, 30, was the co-founder of Ain media, a local TV production company that has done projects, including aerial drone video, for foreign media clients such as BBC and Al Jazeera English.

He was buried with his press vest draped over his body.

Murtaja was not affiliated with Hamas or any other militant group. His death, along with the other recent casualties, seemed likely to draw renewed criticism from rights groups that have branded Israel’s open-fire orders on the border as unlawful, after Israel’s defense minister warned that those approaching the fence were risking their lives.

Just two weeks ago, Murtaja posted a drone photo of Gaza’s seaport at sunset on his Facebook page with the following caption: “I wished I could take this photo from the sky, not from land. My name is Yasser Murtaja, I am 30 years old. I live in Gaza City. I have never traveled.”

Friends say it reflected his greatest wish — to escape Gaza’s isolation.

Hana Awad, his colleague and close friend, said he had long dreamed of traveling and was recently granted an Al Jazeera scholarship for training in Doha. She described him as active and friendly and not at all interested in politics.

“We didn’t know his political views, he was passionate about his job and wanted to travel and learn,” she said of Murtaja, who was the father of a 2-year-old boy.

Witnesses described the area in which he was shot as a chaotic scene in which protesters torched large piles of tires, engulfing the area in black smoke that was meant to shield them from Israeli snipers. Footage showed that visibility was limited and the faces of some of the activists were covered in black soot.

Israeli troops on the other side of the fence responded with tear gas, rubber-coated steel pellets and water cannons, as well as occasional live fire.

The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry said on Friday evening that six men were killed.
The ministry said hundreds of people were wounded on Friday, including 293 by live fire. It said 25 of those wounded were in serious condition. Among those hurt were 12 women and 48 minors, the ministry added.
“Rioters have attempted to damage and cross the security fence under the cover of smoke from their burning tires. They also attempted to carry out terror attacks and hurl explosive devices and firebombs,” the IDF said on Friday evening. “Our forces prevented breaches” of the fence.

Witnesses said that Friday’s demonstrations appeared somewhat smaller than the 30,000 participants at last week’s protest. The army assessed that around 20,000 Gazans were participating.
One of the dead men was identified as Ussama Khamis Qadih, 38, killed east of Khan Younis. Israel’s Army Radio quoted the IDF saying the fatal incident involving Qadih occurred when the army identified an effort by a large group of people to rush the border fence and that it used live fire to stop them. The report said 20 people were also injured in the attempt.
The other dead men were identified as Majdi Shabat, 38; Hussein Mohammed Madi, 16; Ibrahim Alur, 19; Sidqi Abu Attiwi, 45; Mohammed al-Haj Saleh, age unknown. There were no immediate details on the circumstances of their deaths.
“Our forces are using riot disposal means and live fire in accordance with the rules of engagement,” the army said.
Israeli military spokesman Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus said Hamas organizers were trying to use protesters as a diversion to “open up the fence and then to insert terrorists into Israel.” Conricus said snipers were used “sparingly” and only against those that pose a “significant threat.”

Tens of thousands of Palestinians gathered along the Gaza border on Friday, burning tires and throwing firebombs and rocks at Israeli soldiers, who responded with tear gas and live fire, the army and witnesses said, as Palestinians held a second “March of Return” protest.
Hamas said six Gazans were killed by Israeli fire as of 7:30 p.m. The IDF said it thwarted multiple efforts to breach the border fence — and that it used live fire to do so in some instances — as well as attempts to activate bombs against the troops under the cover of smoke.

Violence has broken out at the Gaza-Israel border as the Great Return March protests enter its second week, with several Palestinians reportedly wounded by Israel Defense Forces fire.
The IDF launched tear gas and opened fire on protesters in the northern Gaza Strip, east of Jabaliya, Haaretz reports, with Israel deploying snipers and tanks along the border as protests gain traction. Palestinians have burned tires during protests in an effort to obstruct the view of Israeli snipers, while Israel says the smoke could hide terrorists.
RT’s live feed overlooking Shijaiyah in east Gaza shows hundreds of Palestinians gathering behind a cloud of black smoke from burning tires.
Last Friday’s protests resulted in the killing of 20 Palestinians, while hundreds more were wounded by live Israeli fire after snipers were instructed to shoot at protesters.
"The use of snipers was against specific people who were specific perpetrators of violence," IDF spokesperson Lt Col Peter Lerner said. Footage from the clashes showed a number of unarmed protesters gunned down.

The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights this week urged Israel to ensure security forces do not use excessive force against Palestinian protesters. Israeli forces have been given orders to shoot protesters who get too close to the border fence. The US urged Palestinians to engage in peaceful protests and to stay 500 meters from the border with Israel. Israeli human rights group, B’Tselem, placed ads in Israeli media urging IDF soldiers to refuse orders to fire at unarmed protesters.
Israel’s Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said Tuesday forces will continue to fire at Palestinians who get too close to the border fence, and anyone who comes close to the fence “will endanger their lives.”
“We have set very clear rules [of engagement] and we have no intention of changing them,” he said. “We are determined to protect the security of Israeli citizens, of course, first and foremost, in the area of Gaza, and there will be no compromise on this issue, no flexibility.”

TUNIS, Tunisia  — A court in Tunis has banned four Israeli athletes from competing at the taekwondo world junior championships after a group of activists opposed to normalization with Israel filed an urgent lawsuit.

Prosecutor’s spokesman Sofiane Selliti told The Associated Press that the court decision stipulates that Gaaboul can’t invite, or host, the four Israeli athletes — Dana Azran, Nicol Adamskt, Abishag Semberg and Tom Pashcousky — whose names were on the list of contestants.

Gaaloul told the AP in a phone interview that the athletes will not be invited because they did not complete the paperwork to enter the tournament.

The plaintiffs argued in their lawsuit, which was published by local media, that the athletes’ presence would clash with constitutional provisions and agreements signed by the Tunisian government. They argue that Tunisia has committed “to denouncing and refusing Zionist occupation and colonization, as well as boycotting and not dealing with the Zionist entity (…) in any way.”

Gaaloul said the activist group “misled the judges and used subterfuges” to exploit public opinion.

There was no immediate reaction from the Israeli taekwondo federation.

Muslim and Arab states or athletes often boycott Israeli competitors. An Egyptian judoka refused to shake hands with his Israeli opponent at the Rio Olympics last year, and Tunisia’s tennis federation ordered the country’s top player to withdraw from a match against an Israeli opponent at a tournament in 2013.

In October, an Israeli delegation was allowed to take part in the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam judo tournament, but were barred from identifying as Israeli or displaying national symbols.

The entire Israeli team was required to compete without any Israeli identifying symbols, and had been told before the tournament that there would be no acknowledgement of their home country — a discriminatory policy imposed solely on the Israeli competitors.

The Israeli contestants were listed as representing the International Judo Federation. When one of them won a medal, organizers refused to play the national anthem.

US blocks UN attack on IDF’s response to violent Gaza riot
https://unitedwithisrael.org/us-blocks-un-attack-on-idfs-response-to-violent-gaza-riot/?utm_source=pushengage&utm_medium=push_notification&utm_campaign=pushengage

The United States stood against a draft UN Security Council statement on Saturday expressing “grave concern” about the IDF’s response to violent rioting on the Gaza border.

By: JNS

The United States blocked a draft UN Security Council statement on Saturday expressing “grave concern at the situation on the border” following the ‘Land Day’ protest march in which some 30,000 protestors violently rioted at the Israel-Gaza border. Israeli forces killed as many as 17 armed protestors during the riots.

According to the AFP, the draft council statement presented by Kuwait called for an “independent and transparent investigation of the violence,” and “called upon all sides to exercise restraint and prevent a further escalation.” The draft also referred to the Palestinian “right to peaceful protest” and expressed “sorrow at the loss of innocent Palestinian lives.”

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on Saturday for “those concerned to refrain from any act that could lead to further casualties.”

In response to the calls for inquiry, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman explained that the “attempt to break through the fence” was specifically carried out to “harm our sovereignty.”

“Any state whose borders people tried to crash would act in an even more severe way than we did, and therefore the procession of hypocrites calling for a committee of inquiry must understand that there will be no such thing,” Lieberman stated. “There will not be any international inquiry. We will not cooperate with any inquiry of this kind.”

On Saturday night, the IDF posted the names and photos of 10 of the protesters killed, identifying them as members of known terrorist organizations. IDF spokeswoman Keren Hajiott, released a video statement on Facebook summarizing the riot and Israel’s response, stating that “the IDF has an obligation to protect the citizens of Israel, which is exactly what we did.”

A baby born in Jerusalem with a serious heart defect is now healthy and happy thanks to Israeli and Palestinian doctors who worked together to save his life.

Doctors at both Israeli and Palestinian-operated hospitals joined forces to save the life of a Filipino baby boy in Jerusalem, Times of Israel reported Thursday.

On February 14, Francis Joseph was born at the Red Crescent Hospital in eastern Jerusalem with a rare and serious heart defect, which required complicated and risky open-heart surgery. The so-called “Jatene procedure,” which the Palestinian-operated hospital did not have the necessary facilities to perform, was possible at Hadassah hospital in the capital’s Ein Kerem neighborhood.

When Dr. Julius Golender, a pediatric cardiologist at the hospital, received an emergency call from his colleagues at the Red Crescent hospital, he consulted immediately with his fellow pediatric cardiologists from Hadassah, Dr. Juma Natshe and Dr. Sagi Gavri, who together came up with a plan to save the baby’s life.

They first stabilized the newborn’s critical condition by performing a procedure known as a cardiac catheterization before moving him to Hadassah for open-heart surgery. The Jatene procedure is named for its creator, famed Brazilian cardiologist Dr. Adib Jatene, who first performed it successfully in 1975.

“I was surprised when suddenly these experts from Hadassah showed up at the Red Crescent Hospital, and in my view it was a miracle,” said Nina, the mother of the boy, who preferred to be identified by first name only.

“We did everything we could possibly do so that it would be possible to perform surgery on the newborn baby in Hadassah and fix the heart defect that he was born with, which had caused this extremely complicated medical condition,” said Gavri soon after the catheterization.

The successful surgery took a little over five hours, according to the hospital.

Nina thanked the doctors and the hospital for stepping in and performing the life-saving surgery on her son. “We were undoubtedly very lucky that Hadassah got involved and saved my child and my family,” she said.

A few weeks after the surgery, Francis Joseph was allowed to go home. When he returned to the hospital a month later for a checkup, his doctors said he was “in good condition, active and smiling.”

Palestinians Reveal ‘True Intentions’ by Directly Funding Terrorists
https://unitedwithisrael.org/palestinians-reveal-true-intentions-by-directly-funding-terrorist-salaries-charges-israels-un-envoy/? “Abbas has once again revealed his true intentions as he directly pays hundreds of millions of dollars to terrorists with blood on their hands,” Danon charged.

By: United with Israel Staff

Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Danny Danon decried the decision by the Palestinian Authority (PA) to continue to fund payments to terrorist and their families from its official budget.

“[Palestinian leader] Mahmoud Abbas has once again revealed his true intentions as he directly pays hundreds of millions of dollars to terrorists with blood on their hands,” Danon charged on Wednesday.

“Once again, the Palestinians have responded to American initiatives aimed at reconciliation with support for terror and violence,” he added.

The PA has authorized its 2018 budget which includes payments of $355 million to convicted terrorists and the families of terrorists as part of their 2018 budget, according to a report published by Palestinian Media Watch (PMW).

The PA budget for the Commission of Prisoner Affairs, which pays the salaries of terrorist prisoners and released prisoners, is set at $166 million, of which $158 million will go to terrorists.

Additionally, the budget for the Families of the Martyrs and Wounded Institution is set at $200 million, of which $197 million will go to the families of terrorists.

As such, the total payment by the PA for 2018 is set at $355 million, which is 7.47 percent of its operation budget of $4.76 billion in 2018, and some 44 percent of the funding the PA hopes to receive in foreign aid this year.

“It is very significant that for the first time since 2014, the PA has stopped attempting to hide that it is the PA that pays salaries to all the terrorist prisoners. This year, the PA openly lists the budget for these salaries to the Commission of Prisoners as a direct PA budget expense [listed as “transfer payments”],” the PMW report said.

‘Responsible’ Palestine Government?
Danon called on the international community and the UN to “join the US in their pledge to put an end to the funding of Palestinian terror.”

He was referring to a new US law, the Taylor Force Act, approved by the US Senate on Friday, which freezes US aid to the PA as long as it continues to incite and fund terror through “welfare” stipends for terrorists and their families

The bill, which received bipartisan support, is named for 28-year-old American tourist Taylor Force, who was stabbed to death by a Palestinian terrorist in Tel Aviv in March 2016.

Palestinian envoy to the UN Riyad Mansour slammed the Taylor Force Act as “a hostile act to withdraw the economic assistance to the Palestinian people.”

The bill, he charged, does not enable “a responsible government such as the Palestine government in dealing with their political prisoners and their families and those who lose their lives in the struggle for the independence of our state. All these methods are arm-twisting, blackmailing, and will not break the will of the Palestinian people.”

JNS contributed to this report.

Several German government aid workers are spreading anti-Semitism and anti-Israel propaganda on social media, NGO Monitor reveals.
https://unitedwithisrael.org/german-government-aid-workers-spread-anti-semitism-on-facebook/?
By: United with Israel Staff

An Israeli organization has exposed several German government aid workers as the disseminators of anti-Semitic and anti-Israel propaganda on social media.

NGO Monitor, an independent research institution, monitors non-governmental organizations claiming to fight for human rights but which, in fact, carry out an anti-Israel agenda. The watchdog has recently identified a number of virulently anti-Semitic statements made by officials of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), a German government-owned agency that implements the country’s humanitarian and development aid around the world.

These statements include comparisons between Israel and the Nazis, blaming the downfall of Arab leaders in the Middle East on a “Hebrew spring” and depicting Israel as a two-headed monster.

GIZ members also posted messages to Facebook that justify Palestinian rocket attacks on Israeli civilians and endorse the anti-Israel BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement.

Some of the anti-Semitic content was promoted by GIZ officials responsible for directing German funding to Palestinian NGOs, as well as by other colleagues at the agency.

Among these Palestinian groups receiving the German tax dollars are those that have glorified violence and terrorism against Israelis. According to its website, “GIZ currently employs a staff of 145 in the Palestinian Territories.”

“These revelations highlight how radical activists can promote extreme agendas under the guise of human rights and development work,” stated NGO Monitor Europe Desk Director Olga Deutsch. “This should serve as a wakeup call for GIZ and other government agencies in Europe as to the urgency of addressing this dangerous and unacceptable anti-Semitic discourse at the highest levels of government.”

Britain criticizes Israel following teen terrorist's sentencing
British government "concerned" by Israel's jailing of Palestinian Arab children, following the sentencing of Ahed Tamimi.

The British government on Friday criticized Israel over its jailing of Palestinian Arab children, following the sentencing of a Palestinian Arab teenager Ahed Tamimi who was filmed slapping an Israeli soldier in the village of Nabi Saleh.

17-year-old Tamimi was sentenced earlier this week to eight months' imprisonment in practice and fined 5,000 shekels as part of a plea bargain.

Tamimi's trial is being conducted behind closed doors, and she is to be detained until the end of proceedings against her.

Her jail sentence was "emblematic of how the unresolved conflict is blighting the lives of a new generation", Britain's minister for the Middle East, Alistair Burt, said in a statement on Friday quoted by AFP.

He said London remained concerned by Israel's jailing of Palestinian children, adding that the Jewish state needed to "do much more to safeguard vulnerable people in its care."

"We will continue to call upon Israel to improve its practices in line with international law and obligations," added Burt.

Tamimi, 16 at the time of the incident, has been hailed as a hero by Palestinian Arabs who see her as bravely standing up to Israel's “occupation”.

She told reporters on Wednesday before the court accepted the plea bargain agreement that "there is no justice under occupation and this is an illegitimate court".

Official who OK'd Obama birth papers dies in crash

The Hawaiian health official who verified the authenticity of President Obama's birth certificate died in a small plane crash.

The plane, carrying a pilot and eight passengers, went down Wednesday in the water a half mile off the Hawaiian island of Molokai, the Maui Fire Department said. The lone fatality was Loretta Fuddy, who has served as state health director since January 2011. Tom Matsuda, the interim executive director of Hawaii's health insurance exchange, confirmed Fuddy's death.

Hawaiian Health Department Director Loretta Fuddy was killed after a small plane with nine people aboard crashed into the water off Molokai on Dec. 11.
Hawaii Department of Health via AP
Fuddy, 65, made national news in April 2011 when she verified the authenticity of certified copies of President Obama's birth certificate. Obama had requested the release to curb claims by so-called "birthers" that he was born in Kenya and not eligible to be president.

Makani Kai Air President Richard Schuman told Honolulu-based KITV that he spoke with the pilot of the single-engine turboprop Cessna Grand Caravan after the crash.

"What he reported is after takeoff ... there was catastrophic engine failure," Schuman said. "He did the best he can to bring the aircraft down safely and he got everybody out of the aircraft."

Schuman said the cause of the engine failure had not yet been determined. The National Transportation Safety Board was investigating the crash; NTSB spokesman Eric Weiss said that based on the location of the crash it was unlikely the plane will be recovered.

"Our hearts are broken," Gov. Neil Abercrombie said in a statement. "Loretta was deeply loved and respected. She was selfless, utterly dedicated and committed to her colleagues in the Department of Health and to the people of Hawaii. Her knowledge was vast; her counsel and advice always given from her heart as much as from her storehouse of experience."

Matsuda, who worked with Fuddy to set up the state's Obamacare website, Hawaii Health Connector, called her death "a terrible loss" for the state.

"I worked closely with Director Fuddy on the Affordable Care Act and came to know and respect her as a passionate advocate for public health and a warm, caring human being," Matsuda said.

The plane went down about a half-mile northwest of Kalaupapa peninsula, which was home to a leper colony until 1969. A handful of patients still live there. The state health director by law remains mayor of part of the peninsula, and Fuddy was visiting the peninsula in that capacity, state Health Department spokeswoman Janice Okubo said.

Okubo said the department's deputy director, Keith Yamamoto, also had been booked on the flight.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Melissa McKenzie said a Coast Guard helicopter got three passengers out of the water while Maui fire crews picked up five people. One person swam ashore.

Ever since she singlehandedly ruined Europe through her reckless immigration policy, Angela Merkel ought to be the last person to be handing out advice, now on Iran.
Seems that Merkel favors the Iran Nuke Deal that was hatched by Obama, Kerry and the ayatollahs.
She thinks it’s so splendid that, though nobody asked, she advised, no warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to keep hands off…or else.
Apparently, she’s worried that since President Trump is on the verge of (wisely) nixing the arrangement, Netanyahu, through a whisper or two, could clinch it for him.
Merkel, it’s being reported, told Netanyahu that if the United States withdraws from the plan, the Middle East will be plunged into a devastating new war.
“Do you want that to happen?” she asked…rhetorically, we imagine…when the two leaders met in Davos.
No, neither do Netanyahu or Trump want something else to happen – a nuclear empowered Iran hovering the skies of Israel and the United States. We’re not there yet. But the Deal as sneaked through by Obama/Kerry makes it possible, unless stopped. To spare you the 10,000 pages of the Nuke Deal, here it is in a nutshell –[-
Iran must stop, or pretend to pause whatever it’s doing with centrifuges and enriched uranium, until a certain date. After that, around 2030, the Deal expires, and it’s bombs away.
Is that clear? I hope not. Because we really do not know what secret handshakes were made after Kerry and the ayatollahs smiled for the cameras, though we do know $150 Billion mysteriously appeared, changed hands, from us to them, and Kerry, never a friend of the Jewish State, assured us that through this Deal Israel and the entire Middle East were safer than ever before.
That was the first sign that something fishy was up, and it was worse when Obama offered the same assurances at around the same time when he abandoned Israel at the UN…if you remember Security Council Resolution 2334, which named Jerusalem and other Jewish holy sites “Palestinian territory,” and which Obama let slip through by abstaining.
With friends like that, like John Kerry and Barrack Hussein Obama, who needs Angela Merkel?
European leaders outside Germany are gradually waking up to the damage she’s done by importing and introducing and implanting a strange culture throughout the continent.
The migration fiasco she started can’t be stopped and for some reason, the Germans still want her. The Germans, as we know, have a habit of getting it wrong when it comes to leadership.
But it was assumed that THIS chancellor has the Jewish State’s best interests at heart. She may have everything backwards, but she means well.
Not so says columnist Benny Avni in Tuesday’s New York Post, where he shows that because of a German “power play,” Israel is being elbowed out for a chance to sit, for the first time, at the UN Security Council. Avni writes: “Remember when the new Germany was keen to put its historical baggage behind it and be Israel’s best friend in Europe?
“That was then. Now Berlin is set to block a historic chance for raising the Jewish state’s international profile.”
Merkel does not sound like a friend in Europe, or as someone who can be trusted on Iran.

Palestinians call to put US ambassador Friedman on ‘global terror list’
Palestinian Authority steps up war of words with American envoy to Israel, days after Abbas calls him the 'son of a dog'

The Palestinian Authority on Thursday called for US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman to be added to a “global terror list” as it stepped up its war of words with the American envoy, days after PA  President Mahmoud Abbas denounced him as a “son of a dog” and “settler.”

In a report titled “Friedman, the Ambassador of Settlements and Lawyer of Extremism,” the PA Ministry of Information in Ramallah called for placing the US envoy on the terrorism list “for violating international law, supporting terrorism, and promoting ethnic cleansing and black racism.”

It was not immediately clear which terrorism list the PA had in mind. The US State Department maintains a register of foreign terrorist organizations, and Interpol keeps a data base of foreign terrorist fighters.

Last week Abbas launched a scathing attack against Friedman, hours after Friedman criticized the PA on Twitter for failing to condemn a pair of terror attacks over the weekend.

Mentioning US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and his plan to move the country’s embassy in Israel to the city, Abbas said Trump “views the settlements as legitimate.”

“More than one official has said that,” he added. “The ambassador, David Friedman, said they’re building on their own land. You son of a dog, building on their own land?! You are a settler and your family are settlers!”

“Son of a dog” is a mild pejorative in Arabic, somewhat analogous to “jerk.”

Reacting to the comment while at an anti-Semitism conference in Jerusalem, Friedman quoted the insult, using the term “son of a bitch,” and added “Anti-Semitism or political discourse? I leave this up to you.”

Also responding to Abbas, US Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt said: “The time has come for President Abbas to choose between hateful rhetoric and concrete and practical efforts to improve the quality of life of his people and lead them to peace and prosperity.”

The State Department, for its part, described Abbas’s comments as “outrageous and unhelpful.”

(Amos Ben Gershom/GPO)
The PA foreign ministry then said that “it was hard to understand the American response to President Abbas’s recent speech.”

The ministry noted that Abbas was referring in his speech to Friedman’s “support for Israeli settlements in occupied Palestine and his disregard for settler crimes.”

The PA ministry also took Friedman to task for allegedly opposing the two-state solution and “inciting” against the Palestinians.

“We believe that principles can’t be fragmented, and they do reflect the personality of the one who holds them and impact his demeanor,” the ministry said in its report about the US ambassador. “Friedman’s conduct as a supporter of the internationally criminalized settler project is clearly visible.”

Friedman is known for making comments aligning himself with the Israeli right-wing, as well as for supporting projects in settlements.

In a recent interview Friedman said that West Bank settlements “are part of Israel” and that the two-state solution “is not a helpful term” and “has largely lost its meaning.”

Friedman was a controversial pick for ambassador, largely due to his views on the settlements and derogatory comments he made about left-wing Jewish groups, for which he subsequently apologized. Friedman was a major donor to the settlement of Beit El and had said that Israel can annex the West Bank and retain its Jewish character.

Abbas has made a series of bitter speeches since Trump recognized Jerusalem, and is now boycotting the US administration. In an address in January, Abbas called Israel a “colonial project” unrelated to Judaism, implied that European Jews chose to die in the Holocaust rather than go to pre-state Palestine, and claimed that first prime minister David Ben-Gurion forced Mideast Jews to come to Israel.
The comments came amid roiling Palestinian anger at the US over the Jerusalem decision, with Ramallah rejecting Washington’s role in attempting to broker peace talks.

Supreme Court shields terrorist's home from demolition

Israel’s Supreme Court has rejected a petition to demolish the home of a terrorist responsible for the slaughter of three Israelis in a July, 2017 terror attack.
On Thursday, the high court rejected the petition filed by members of the Salomon family, appealing a ruling by the court in August 2017 that only the interior of the first floor of the home where terrorist Omar al-Abed lived be destroyed, leaving the second floor of the building intact.
In July 2017, al-Abed broke into the Salomon family home in the town of Halamish (Neve Tzuf) in Samaria, and stabbed three members of the family to death.
An off-duty soldier later shot and wounded al-Abed, who was captured and taken into custody.
While the IDF had initially planned to demolish the entire home where al-Abed lived, petitions brought by several left-wing NGOs on behalf of al-Abed’s family called on the Supreme Court to intervene and limit the demolition.
The court accepted the request, and barred the IDF from demolishing the entire building, arguing that al-Abed had primarily used the bottom floor, while his relatives lived on the top floor.
Later in August 2017, the Salomon family filed an appeal, arguing that the entire building was liable for demolition, since al-Abed’s relatives living on the second floor had been convicted of aiding and abetting the terrorist.
The petition also cited a law authorizing the IDF to demolish a house and confiscate the land on which it was built, when one of its residents was an accomplice, or accomplice after-the-fact, in offenses of violence and terrorism.
Nevertheless, on Thursday, the court ruled against the appeal, maintaining its prior decision protecting the home from full demolition.

MOMENTOUS FLIGHT
Air India flight AI 139 from Delhi to Tel Aviv made history yesterday by becoming the first commercial flight to fly to Israel over Saudi Arabia. The flight via the airspace of Oman, Saudi Arabia and Jordan took seven and a half hours, two hours less than if it had been required to circumvent Saudi Arabia.
On hand to greet the historic flight was Minister of Transport Yisrael Katz and Minister of Tourism Yariv Levin. Katz told reporters, "This is an historic moment. For the first time, there has been an official connection between the State of Israel and Saudi Arabia.”
El Al has not been granted rights to fly over Saudi Arabia on its Tel Aviv - Mumbai route and the Israeli carrier's CEO Gonen Usishkin is protesting unfair competition. He told Yediot Ahronot, "The government is not acting for our benefit. We expect equal opportunity and it's a shame that the government and the prime minister do not take that into account."

VISA REGULATIONS
The US Embassy in Israel announced yesterday that it was easing the entry visa requirements for Israelis. Under the new regulations, Israelis who are renewing a valid tourist visa or whose visa expired during the past 12 months will not need to present themselves for a personal interview with an official at the US Consulate. Applicants can request a visa renewal online and if their application is accepted they can send their passport to the consulate by mail or take it personally for the visa to be stamped on.

Israel has still not been placed on the visa waiver program, like 38 other countries, which would allow Israelis to visit the US for up to 90 days without a visa.

Father of four stabbed in Jerusalem terror attack succumbs to wounds
After hours of attempts to stabilize the victim's condition, who was said to be in life-threatening danger after being stabbed multiple times in the Old City by a terrorist, victim, identified as Adiel Coleman—father of 4—dies in hospital; terrorist, 28, from village near Nablus, was a Palestinian who was granted permit to look for work in Israel.

A 32-year-old Israeli who was stabbed in Jerusalem's Old City multiple times in a terror attack succumbed to his wounds Sunday evening.
The victim was evacuated to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem where he was said to be fighting for his life. Doctors battled for hours to stabilize what was described as an "extremely seriously" condition and despite being operated on, the hospital had no choice but to pronounce his death.

The victim was identified as Adiel Coleman, a father of four from the settlement of Kokhav HaShahar in the West Bank, who was born in the Keshet community in the Golan Heights.

The 28-year-old terrorist, Abd al-Rahman Bani Fadel, who was later confirmed to be a Palestinian from the village of Aqraba near Nablus, was was shot dead by a police officer at the scene on HaGai Street, where he carried out his attack.

Fadel, a father of two, had a temporary permit for a week that allowed him to enter Israel to search for employment. He had already received such permits in the past, as there was no indication of his terrorist intentions.

“He was fully conscious and didn’t answer any questions when we got to him. He had suffered from serious wounds to his chest and stomach,” said one MDA paramedic.
Commander of the area, David Shmueli later said that security forces were still trying to figure out how the terrorist managed to carry out the attack. “We are still looking into how he got here and where he entered from. We are assessing all the possibilities in order to understand what happened here after a long period of comparative quiet in Jerusalem,” he said.

Shmueli also added that in light of a number of warnings of future attacks, police were preparing for a beefed-up deployment ahead of, and during, the upcoming festival of Passover.
“We are taking everything into account. There are multiple alerts unfortunately and we are obviously augmenting the forces accordingly.”

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat issued a statement shortly after the attack, wishing the victim a speedy recovery, and blaming the stabbing on incitement by the Palestinian Authority.

Ziv's father Ronen lamented the fact he had to say the Jewish prayer of mourning for his son. "I have to say Kaddish for him? He needs to say Kaddish for me. This is against nature," he said.
"God will protect you from above. He took an angel from me. God takes all of the angels and all of the good ones. God preserve us," Ronen continued.

The tunnel, which runs from Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip to the Eshkol Regional Council inside Israel, was flooded with materials rendering the whole network unusable.
"We did not use explosives. It (the tunnel) was filled with a certain material, with a certain compound," said the IDF's English-language spokesperson Lt.-Col. Jonathan Conricus, who added troops did not enter Gaza to destroy the tunnel, which reached several meters from the Israeli border but did not cross it.

The tunnel, which was partially destroyed in the summer of 2014, appears to be the first case of Hamas trying to "recycle" part of its devastated network by digging a new tunnel to connect with what was left of the old one, Conricus said.
"Overnight, IDF forces operated against underground infrastructure in the Rafah area," a statement by the IDF Spokesman's Office said.
"For several weeks now, we've been identifying Hamas activity, as they have been trying to rebuild underground infrastructure that was active during Protective Edge. We've been following this activity and decided to take this action to thwart it before Hamas could reconnect the tunnel to the old infrastructure and before the tunnel crossed into our territory. It did not pose a threat," the IDF continued.
A spokesman for Hamas said the IDF was "marketing fake achievements" to boost the morale of soldiers and Israelis living near the enclave.

Two Dead Sea Scrolls will be presented to the public for the first time ever in a major Israel Antiquities Authority exhibition, opening in Denver, Colorado.
Two fascinating manuscripts from the Dead Sea Scrolls collection will appear in public for the first time as part of the new Israel Antiquities Authority exhibition opening at the Denver Museum of Science and Nature in Denver, Colorado. The huge exhibition features some 600 artifacts, including a stone from the Western Wall weighing 3 tons, the largest and most impressive lintel ever discovered in Israel from a First Temple era royal estate, and the stars of the show – 20 Dead Sea Scrolls. To properly preserve these delicate documents, they will be displayed in two separate rounds of 10 each.
In the first round, a scroll dealing with matters of ritual purity and impurity will be shown, and in the second round, part of the scroll known as Musar leMevin (Instruction to the One who Understands), containing apocalyptic messages.
Although the exhibition is to be open for six months, the first 10 scrolls on display, under strictly monitored conditions, will be sent back to Israel in three months, to be replaced by 10 other scrolls. The scrolls returned from the exhibition will be kept for at least five years in the Israel Antiquities Authority scroll climate-controlled vault, in conditions simulating those of the Judean Desert caves in which they were found.

Comptroller report gives passing grade to IDF conduct in 2014 Gaza warFriends and relatives seen mourning during at funeral
The long-awaited state comptroller report on the IDF’s conduct during the 2014 Gaza war was mostly positive, but makes recommendations.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
State comptroller Yosef Shapira presented Wednesday his extensive report on Operation Protective Edge, the war fought between Israel and Hamas in the summer of 2014 following the kidnapping and murder of three Jewish teenagers by Hamas operatives in the Gush Etzion region.
The IDF launched Operation Protective Edge with an end to continuous rocket attacks against Israeli civilians and the destruction of Hamas terror tunnels as the main objective.
The comptroller placed great emphasis on how well Israel adhered to international law that pertained to armed conflicts and human rights. In expressing general satisfaction with the performance of the IDF in this regard, the report noted the tremendous difficulty the army faced in protecting civilians on the enemy side when Hamas used them as human shields and fired missiles and mortar shells from areas such as schools and hospitals. Yet the report details the extensive efforts made to limit such casualties on the operational end, as well as the numerous times the issue was discussed in the security cabinet.

Two IDF soldiers were killed in a terror attack in northern Samaria Friday afternoon, near the Israeli community of Mevo Dotan, when 26-year-old Ala Qabha rammed his vehicle into security forces before fleeing the scene. He was later found and arrested.

The victims were named Saturday night as Ziv Daos, 21, and Netanel Kalahani, 20.

Three others, also in their 20s, were injured. Two seriously wounded victims underwent a series of operations overnight. One remains in critical condition.

Qabha was reportedly released from prison last year after serving a 17-month sentence for terror-related activities.

Security forces carried out operations throughout the night in the village of Barta’a, Qabha’s hometown, where they arrested his brother and uncle, whom they suspect of having been accomplices in the attack.

The terrorist originally claimed the incident was a car accident. Under questioning, he admitted that he purposely carried out the attack with the intention to kill Israelis, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) said.

Qabha’s family continues to deny the motive. “It was a car accident, like any accident you hear every day,” he told Walla News. “This is not the first and not the last accident, and it happens every day.”

“I know my son very well,” he said. “It’s a guy who works, he has ambitions to get married and to build a home, he has no such thoughts, and I share the sorrow of the families of those killed.”

He also rejected the Hamas terror group’s statement of praise for the attack. Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem noted the significance of the timing, which was “one hundred days after Trump’s decision to transfer the embassy to Jerusalem, and proves the readiness of our people to continue the course of the course of the intifada until full freedom is achieved.”

IDF: ‘No doubt attack was deliberate’
IDF spokesman Jonathan Conricus confirmed that the attack was “indeed deliberate.”

Following the attack, Yoav Mordechai, head of Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), announced an immediate freeze of permits for the terrorist’s family to enter Israel, including 67 work permits, 26 commercial and four employment licenses.

“From the depths of my heart, I send condolences to the families of the IDF officer and soldier who were murdered yesterday by a reprehensible terrorist and my best wishes for a quick recovery to the wounded, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated Saturday night. “We will work to demolish the home of the terrorist and will deal with him to the fullest extent of the law.”

“Throughout Shabbat, our prayers and thoughts were with the families of the victims of the terrible terror attack that took place as the Sabbath began on Friday afternoon. I send a warm embrace of comfort and strength to the families of those killed and we pray for the speedy recovery of the wounded. May all the security forces be strengthened, operating in all arenas – in the field and in intelligence – to investigate those who perpetrated and assisted in the attack. We will not rest until we bring all those who cooperate with terror to justice, we will not allow terror to become an accepted norm,” President Reuven Rivlin stated.

Liberman blames PA, calls for death penalty
“We will act to sentence the terrorist to death, demolish his home and punish anyone who participated in the attack. There is no such thing as a ‘lone terrorist.’ It is a terrorist supported by Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority (PA) paying money to the terrorists’ families,” Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman tweeted. “We’re going to stop them,” he vowed.

Israeli Ambasssador to the UN Danny Danon said that “as long as the Palestinian Authority continues to pay hundreds of millions of dollars to terrorists who kill Israelis, we will continue to see such heinous attacks. The international community must condemn this hateful act of terror and demand that the Palestinian leadership finally put an end to the despicable practice of ‘pay to slay.’”

One was an 'old tunnel' being revived by Hamas that crossed into Israeli territory from southern Gaza, second was located only inside the coastal enclave

The Israeli military on Sunday announced that it had destroyed two attack tunnels, one that entered Israeli territory and another inside the central Gaza Strip. Several such underground structures have been demolished by Israel in recent months.

The border-crossing tunnel destroyed early Sunday morning was located in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, IDF spokesperson Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus told reporters.

According to Conricus, it was an “old tunnel” that was built before the 2014 Gaza war and partially destroyed during the conflict, which the Hamas terrorist group was trying to “revive” by connecting the intact portion that penetrated Israeli territory to a new passage.

The other target, which was destroyed by Israeli fighter jets around midnight on Saturday, was a “subterranean complex” in the central Gaza Strip, according to Conricus.

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman credited the army’s destruction of the tunnels to “high quality intelligence and breakthrough technology.”

“Whoever thought they could attack us from underground has come up against an iron wall,” he said. “Hamas invested billions in its tunnel project and now they’re drowning in the sand. I recommend that Hamas invest its money in the welfare of the citizens of Gaza because by the end of the year its tunnel project will be destroyed.”

Palestinian media published photographs from inside Gaza, apparently showing the damage from the Israeli strikes.

Since October 30, Israel has destroyed four border-crossing tunnels that entered Israeli territory from Gaza, three of them belonging to Hamas and the fourth to the Iran-backed Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist group. In addition, several tunnels were located inside the coastal enclave have also been targeted using a newly developed system that allows Israel to hit them from the air.

Last year, Israel began construction of a new above- and below-ground barrier around the Gaza Strip, which the army says will end the threat of attack tunnels from the coastal enclave.

Army officials have said that they expect to find and destroy more tunnels as construction of the barrier continues.

Sunday’s border-crossing tunnel was first discovered by the Israel Defense Forces in July 2014 and was partially destroyed during the war, Conricus told reporters.

However, since the 2014 campaign, known in Israel as Operation Protective Edge, Hamas has been trying to reconnect what remained of the tunnel to a new passage being dug in southern Gaza, he said.

Conricus said the army had been monitoring the group’s attempts to rebuild the tunnel for several weeks, but that Hamas had likely been working on the site for far longer.

He said the connection point between the old and new tunnels was located some 200 meters from the border.

The spokesperson added that the army used a new technique to destroy the tunnel that would prevent Hamas from being able to use it again, but would not elaborate on its nature.

Conricus said he could not describe the underground infrastructure destroyed in central Gaza, beyond saying that it was used by the Hamas terrorist group for “military purposes.”

According to the spokesperson, the destruction of this “subterranean complex” was in response to the bombing that took place on the border fence that was meant to injure Israeli soldiers, but failed to do so.

Earlier on Sunday, the army had erected roadblocks in the area around the Eshkol Region, which abuts the Gaza border border.

Conricus said there was no risk to civilians, and the roadblocks were later removed.

The local council sent a message to residents, telling them that despite the increased army presence in the area, the roads were open.

“There is movement of security vehicles in the southern portion of the region, but the roads are open and there are no blocks to traffic. The council is in constant contact with military officials. There are no special instructions to residents,” the council said.

On Saturday, after the bomb planted near the Israel-Gaza border exploded, causing no casualties, Israeli tanks also destroyed a Hamas post in the area in response to the bombing.

The IDF said there were no troops near the bomb when it detonated, the latest in a series of attempted bomb attacks on Israeli troops.

On Friday, some 150 Palestinians were said to have taken part in riots along the Gaza border, with the Palestinian Authority’s official Wafa news agency reporting seven demonstrators were wounded by Israeli fire during the clashes.

The protests were part of a “day of rage” marking 100 days since US President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Hundreds of Palestinians also clashed with Israeli soldiers in the West Bank.

Radical Islam, the Islamic State and its threats are very real. America faces this threat, as do other counties. Yet the solution to Radical Islam may come from a surprising source – a reformed Islam.
VIDEO https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=29&v=RzZQ2RGu5ds
Reformed Islam can counter theocratic radical Islam
This man is the son of Syrian immigrants and served in the US Navy for eleven years. After 9/11, he formed a group that wants to stop radical Islam. He knows that in modern times, we finally have a president that will name the enemy. And the enemy is radical Islam. This man has an interesting suggestion to solve the problem. And his solution is an ideological solution. It may be much more powerful that bullets. Because ideologies can literally change how an entire generation or group of people thinks. He hopes for a reformed Islam. An Islam that is not radicalized. An Islam that is not a theocracy. He want there to be a separation between mosque and state.
Can Reformed Islam actually happen?
Yes. There are some places where Muslims actually want to stop political Islam and stop radicalization. One example is the large amount of Iranian people. Another are the millions of Egyptians who protest in the streets against radical Islam. They reject Islamism. And so we see that reformation is important, however it will take time. Perhaps even a generation or two – until the ideas permeate to all of society and they decide to reject radical Islam. We need to get the imams out of power. The Muslim governments should believe in human rights for all people. This will be better for that society, and help reduce radical Islamic ideology. Separating mosque and state will be good for everyone. It will be especially good for non-Muslims who would otherwise have to suffer under radical Islamic rule.

Bibi Netanyahu just slapped the United Nations with one big reality check
By Michael Sax -  March 13, 2018 2735 0
The United Nations wants the world to forget one basic truth. That is, Jews have been living in Israel for three thousand years before the United Nations ever even existed!
VIDEO

The basic truth is that the United Nations, leftists, and Muslims want to wipe out Israel
Three thousand years ago, King David ruled in Jerusalem. He was Jewish. The people living there were Jews. The Torah records this. Islam didn’t come to exist until two thousand years after King David. In fact, the Koran also states that Israel belongs to the Jews! Additionally, there is clear archaeological evidence that Jews have been living in Israel for thousands of years. This proof, “set in stone” so to say, is what Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is showing the United Nations. Will they blind themselves from this proof also?

The United Nations wants to wipe out the basic truth of Israel’s existence
The United United Nations repeatedly denies the fundamental connection between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel. They flat out lie by distorting the Jewish connection to the Jerusalem and the Temple Mount. They fabricate a fake history for the city of Hebron. Yet anyone with a basic Biblical knowledge knows that Hebron was the city where Abraham lived and where the Jewish ancestors are buried. Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebecca, Jacob and Leah are buried there.

Despite the den of lies, Prime Minister Netanyahu was fearless and spoke the truth. He showed them the historical evidence. It proves that Israel belongs to the Jews. It demonstrates that Jews have an unbreakable bond with Israel. The Jewish people have survived thousands of years. We survived pogroms and Nazis. We survived wars and Muslim terrorism. We will survive the United Nations lies also.

The United Nations is waking up to the basic truth. It will take time, but eventually they will acknowledge that Israel belongs to the Jewish people.

Israel News for March 14, 2018
GAZA CONFERENCE
Representatives of nearly two dozen countries and international organizations gathered yesterday at the White House for a meeting to discuss aid for Gaza. The meeting was led by top U.S. Middle East negotiator Jason Greenblatt.

Greenblatt highlighted the poverty in Gaza and said, “We asked you here because we believe we can do much better – we must do much better.” Jared Kushner presented concrete ideas to assist the people of Gaza.

The Palestinian Authority boycotted the meeting, in protest of President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. UNRWA, the UN relief organization that provides most of the relief in Gaza, was not invited.

The full list of participants includes: Bahrain, Canada, Cyprus, Egypt, the European Union, France, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Norway, Oman, the Middle East Quartet, Qatar, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United Nations.

The White House called the 6 hour meeting a success.

COMPROMISE REACHED
The Ministerial Committee for Legislation last night unanimously approved a compromise deal to avert a government collapse and new elections. The deal allows for the passage of the Draft Bill, which exempts yeshiva students from military service, while permitting coalition MKs to vote against it if they so choose. That means that Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman and members of his party will be able to vote against the Draft Bill without being fired.

To read details of the compromise deal click here.

ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT
A bomb was detonated near Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah’s convoy, just minutes after he crossed into Gaza from Israel at the Erez crossing. Hamdallah was visiting the area to inaugurate a desalination plant established within the framework of reconciliation with Hamas. Hamdallah was not harmed, but several of his guards were injured.

PA President Abbas condemned the assassination attempt and said, “this crime was planned and its targets and perpetrators are well-known. It is consistent with the attempts to avoid allowing the Palestinian government to operate in Gaza, undermine the reconciliation and to destroy the national enterprise by separating Gaza from the West Bank in order to establish a questionable state in the Gaza Strip.”

BIRTH RATE
According to Central Bureau of Statistics data on birth and fertility published Tuesday, Israel’s overall fertility rate was 3.14 children per mother in 2016. That’s the highest fertility rate among nations who are members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The average OECD rate averages around 2.1 children.

Communities with highest overall fertility rates were Haredi cities and Bedouin communities in the south. Those with the lowest rate, on the other hand, were mostly Druze, or communities housing either the upper socioeconomic echelons of Israel’s population or a relatively high percentage of olim.

A total of 191,405 babies were born in Israel in 2016. By religion, 73.9% of babies born in 2016 were born to Jewish women, 20.7% to Muslims, 1.4% to Christians, 1.3% to Druze, and 2.6% to women whose religion was not classified in the census.

The average age of women giving birth for the first time was 27.6. The proportion of babies born to women 30 years or older rose from 40.2% in 2000 to 51.5% in 2016.

Analysis: The coming war
There is a feeling of calm before the storm here in Israel.
Contact Editor Yochanan Visser, 09/03/18 00:39

Yochanan Visser is an independent journalist/analyst who worked for many years as Middle East correspondent for Western Journalism.com in Arizona and was a frequent publicist for the main Dutch paper De Volkskrant. He authored a book in the Dutch language about the cognitive war against Israel and now lives in Gush Etzion. He writes a twice weekly analysis of current issues for Arutz Sheva

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has changed his time schedule for the destruction of Israel and at the beginning of March promised a Sunni Syrian religious scholar he would lead prayers in Jerusalem fairly soon.

His words are not merely rhetoric since the Iranians are making rapid progress in preparations for a concerted effort to destroy the Jewish state via its proxies in Lebanon, Syria and the territories controlled by the PA and Hamas.

During a meeting with Muhammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyid, the Syrian Minister of religious affairs and Syrian religious scholars, Khamenei promised al-Sayyid he would see the day that he would be able “to lead prayers in al-Quds” (Jerusalem).

“I hope that you and we will see the day when you are conducting public prayers in Quds, God willing. We believe that that day will come. It is possible that this humble person and people like us will not be living on that day, but it will come eventually and it will not come late,” according to Khamenei

Severeal years ago, the Iranian dictator said Israel would be erased from the face of earth within 25 years.

During the meeting with the Syrian scholars Khamenei elevated the status of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad whom he praised for being "a great example of resistance and a fighting image.”

Calling al-Assad an “example” for the resistance movement – the loose coalition of terrorist movements and rogue regimes fighting Israel- is another indication Iran and its allies in Syria are shifting their focus toward Israel now that the Russian-supported Iranian axis is on the verge of victory in the seven-year-old Syrian war.

The pro-Assad coalition of Shiite militias who make up the bulk of the Syrian army today is currently eliminating the last hubs of Islamist rebels in eastern Ghouta near Damascus and in the northern province Idlib in Syria.

At the same time Iran is continuing to build the military infrastructure which will be needed in the coming confrontation with the IDF.

A recent New York Times report indicated the Islamic Republic is building missile facilities and military bases in Syria while bringing its proxies closer to the Israeli border.

In addition, Fox News reported last week Iran is building big missile silos on a military base near Damascus.

Fox News obtained images of the base from ImageSat International which showed the Quds force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) had built two hangars for missiles which can hit Israel anywhere.

A similar base was destroyed by Israel during the first direct confrontation between the IAF and the IRGC on February 10, 2018.

This week Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force, said Iran has tripled its missile production despite international efforts to curb the program.

Hajizadeh scoffed at Israel and other Western powers such as France for their “hypocrisy” in trying to stop further expansion of the Iranian missile program.

France is leading the effort to reduce the threat from Iranian missiles, however, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian failed to book progress while visiting Iran at the beginning of this week.

Another indication both Israel and Iran are preparing for war is detectable in Lebanon.

Last week, Joseph Aoun, the commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), told reporters the Lebanese army is ready for a new conflict with Israel if the IDF encroaches further on the border of Lebanon.

Aoun’s threat was related to mounting tensions between Lebanon and Israel over additional security measures the IDF is currently undertaking near the Lebanese border and a dispute over a gas field which straddles the maritime border between the two countries.

There’s more.

A former Syrian general who headed the chemical weapons program of Assad’s army this week disclosed Iran and Syria have supplied chemical weapons to Hezbollah.

Suhair al-Saqit told the Hebreeuw paper Maariv the chemical warheads in Hezbollah’s possession are produced in Syria.

He also said Assad had transferred a large part of his chemical weapons stockpile to Hezbollah ahead of international inspections which took place after Assad gassed thousands of Syrian civilians during the first period of the Syrian civil war.

Fox News furthermore, reported a new UN investigation revealed North Korea has delivered new chemical weapons to Syria and that satellite images showed North Korean engineers are working on chemical weapons facilities in Syria.

Republican senator Lindsey Graham who visited Israel last week said he had become increasingly worried about the Iranian threat to Israel after he visited the borders between Israel, Lebanon and Syria.

“It’s far worse than I thought it would be,” Graham said before reporting he had seen Hezbollah and Syrian army flags very close to the Israeli border on the Golan Heights.

“Southern Lebanon is a nightmare, it makes Gaza looking stable” Graham said before adding “Israel is in a no-win situation.”

He was referring to the approx. 130,000 missiles pointing at Israel from Lebanon.

Graham could have added that the Lebanese army has been turned into an ally of Hezbollah with U.S. support as columnist Caroline Glick reported this week.

Glick also wrote the presence of UNIFIL in southern Lebanon has been rendered useless against Hezbollah’s growing threat against Israel because the LAF is blocking UNIFIL from carrying out its mandate as a peace keeping force.

Israel on the other hand, is increasingly carrying out reconnaissance missions in Lebanon.

The Lebanese army almost daily reports violations of Lebanese airspace by IAF warplanes and drones while the Israeli navy briefly entered Lebanese territorial waters this week.

“There is a feeling of calm before the storm here in Israel,” blogger Vic Rosenthal wrote this week adding that the “coming war” will probably be the “toughest in Israel’s history.”

Iran and its proxies are expected to lob more than 1,000 missiles a day at Israel from at least three fronts in this ‘coming war’ as many observers, politicians and IDF officers in Israel call it.

These three fronts are Lebanon, Gaza and Syria and it is expected Israel’s various anti-missile shields will be unable to cope with this amount of missiles.

This is why some observers now think the time has come to take preemptive action against the Iranian threat on the lines of what happened in 1967 at the outset of the Six-Day-War when the IAF destroyed almost all Egyptian and Syrian warplanes before the war actually began.

“Israel is exceptionally vulnerable to attack by precision weapons, as on the one hand it is an advanced Western country dependent on sophisticated technologies, and on the other it is small, with very concentrated infrastructures and very little redundancy,” two IAF veterans wrote in a study last year.

They could have added that the bulk of Israel’s population is living in areas in the center of country and the Iranians have already warned they would flatten Tel Aviv and its suburbs in the Gush Dan area.

All the above are the reasons Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu spoke in apocalyptic terms regarding the increasing Iranian threat to Israel when he held a speech at the annual American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference in the U.S.

“We must stop Iran. We will stop Iran,” Netanyahu vowed.
