Iran: See a Pattern?
By Shoshana Bryen September 14, 2017 , 7:00 am
If you have not been paying attention, the last thing you heard was that Syria had used sarin gas attack on civilians in 2013. President Obama’s “red line” was washed pink in an agreement with Russia to remove the weapons and destroy them at sea. The U.N. Organization for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) special coordinator Sigrid Kaang, in a remarkably precise statement, said 96% percent of Syria’s declared chemical weapons were destroyed. Not 95% or 87% or 43.5%, but 96% on the nose. Secretary of State Kerry said: “In record time, even amid a civil war, we removed and have now destroyed the most dangerous chemicals in the regime’s declared stockpiles.”
It was good PR, but as a solution to a deadly violation of international law, it was a huge, gaping failure. The word “declared” is the giveaway — Syria was allowed to tell inspectors what it had and where, and the inspectors were allowed only to touch those sites. If you think they cheated, you are right.
This week, the Israel Air Force destroyed a “research center” in Syria, one that “researched” chemical weapons. The attack came the morning after U.N. investigators said the Syrian government was responsible for a sarin gas attack in April 2017. Israel has conducted approximately 100 strikes inside Syria in the six years of civil war, not to change the course of battle or support one side over the other, but to eliminate weapons and facilities deemed unacceptable threats to Israel — including missile factories, a nuclear reactor and now a chemical weapons factory.

Here is the lesson. Focus on the real regional threats and push off peripheral issues.
Iran and its proxies Hezbollah and Hamas — oddly enough, Shiite Iran is Sunni Hamas’s biggest backer both militarily and financially. There are more than 100,000 rockets and missiles in southern Lebanon, controlled by Hezbollah and aimed at Israel.
Iran and its occupation of Syria, as the Russians seek to nail down their bases but prefer to exercise influence from Moscow without a large military presence in the country. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said last week that Israel’s interests in Syria “would be taken into account,” but with Russia hoping to leave and Iran planning to stay, Russia’s leverage is questionable.
Iran and its unconventional weapons – it was Iran that facilitated the Syrian chemical weapons program, and Iran and North Korea that built the nuclear facility in Syria that Israel destroyed in 2007.
Iran’s physical presence in the Sunni areas of Iraq in pursuit of a land-bridge from Iran to the Mediterranean Sea. Iran’s harassment of U.S. and other ships in the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea, encircling Saudi Arabia in the south and potentially cutting off Israel and Jordan’s access through the Bab el-Mandeb Straits to the Indian Ocean. The “Shiite Crescent” is a “Shiite Encirclement.”
See a pattern?
Those problems must be dealt with directly by countries able to take action — primarily the United States and Israel. President Trump’s March order to bomb Syria’s al Shayrat air base — from which a chemical attack was mounted against Syrian civilians — was an excellent example of the focus on the key threats. Use a facility to violate international law on chemical use and you will be punished. UN Ambassador Nikki Haley said: “When the United Nations consistently fails in its duty to act collectively, there are times in the life of states that we are compelled to take our own action.”
That was Israel’s playbook. Have the world’s greatest sponsor of terror build a facility to do “research” or build chemical weapons in violation of international law, and you will be punished.
Visitors to Israel Miss the Point
In this regional context, the Israel-Palestinian “peace process” is a peripheral issue. UN Chief Antonio Guterres missed the point on his recent visit to Israel. President Trump’s envoys, Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt did as well.
Prime Minister Netanyahu and the IDF explained the Hezbollah buildup in Lebanon and the need for a stronger UNIFIL force there. Israel provided evidence of Iran’s buildup of both nuclear capability at home and conventional capability in Syria. Guterres visited Hamas terror tunnels in Gaza where Israel’s UN Ambassador explained what they cost and how life could be better for the Palestinians if Hamas spent Iran’s money on its people rather than weapons. Hamas told Guterres he was “unwelcomed.”
Mahmoud Abbas decided going to Turkey was better than a meeting with the UN Secretary General. Guterres’s hosts trapped him into an unscheduled (read “previously rejected”) meeting with families of terrorists in Israeli jails and then lied about what he said. The PA statement was so preposterous that the UN Secretariat announced that statements from the official Wafa Palestinian news agency were “fabricated.”
With all that information, Guterres’s recommendation was that Israel freezes “settlement construction”. “There is no Plan B on the two state solution,” he opined.
As for the Americans, Kushner and Greenblatt were greeted in the West Bank by angry Palestinian protesters and demands from Palestinian officials. According to the daily Israel Hayom:
“If the U.S. team doesn’t bring answers to our questions this time, we are going to look into our options because the status quo is not working for our interests,” Abbas aide Ahmad Majdalani said.
One “option” is to petition the International Criminal Court at The Hague to investigate Israel for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity since 1967. The American envoys asked the Palestinians to end their diplomatic offensive against Israel and to stop paying terrorist salaries. The Palestinians were noncommittal on the first and said no to the second. According to the New York Times:
“The best Mr. Trump’s senior adviser, Jared Kushner, and his special envoy, Jason D. Greenblatt, could manage was a two-line statement saying that the Palestinians had agreed not to bolt from the American-led process.”
Guterres, Kushner, and Greenblatt focused on the narrowest threat in the Middle East — the possibility that the Palestinians will continue to make low-level warfare against Israel. They ignored the role of Iran and its proxies, with their potential for regional conflagration that could include non-conventional weapons, restrict the flow of oil internationally, damage American allies Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Israel and Egypt, and change the balance of power in the region away from the United States and toward Iran for the next decade.
In effect, they performed the role of Nero with his fiddle.
In the worst case, Israel may find itself alone in focusing on the regional threats to its safety and security.

In Growing Trend, Christians Taking On Biblical High Holidays of Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz September 19, 2017 , 12:30 pm
“Speak to B’nei Yisrael and say to them: These are My fixed times, the fixed times of Hashem, which you shall proclaim as sacred occasions.” Leviticus 23:2 (The Israel Bible™)

The growing phenomenon of Christians observing the Biblical holidays is bringing Jews and Christians closer while helping to eliminate anti-Jewish replacement theology. This phenomenon is creating a new Bible-based aspect within Christianity, and for some Jews, revealing a previously hidden aspect of the holidays.
Wednesday evening begins an intense period including three major Jewish holidays, starting off with Rosh Hashana (the New Year), continuing with Yom Kippur (Day of Repentance) ten days later, and ending with Sukkot. Until recently, this was a uniquely and exclusively Jewish experience. Now, many Christians are finding spiritual meaning in experiencing the feasts and holidays they previously only read about.
The source for the holidays in Judaism is, of course, the Bible, and many Christians are drawn to the holidays for their Biblical origins. Harriett Shipman Casas grew up in South Carolina listening to her father talk about the High Holy Days and keeping the Sabbath. His family origins were from Jerusalem, which perhaps gave him a different perspective than the other members of their Baptist Church.

“He said that we should go to church on Saturday, not Sunday,” Shipman told Breaking Israel News. “He also said that we shouldn’t eat any pork or unclean food.”
As she grew older, she felt that something spiritual was lacking in the church. Shipman searched the Bible for answers.
“I read my Bible, taking each chapter apart, sentence by sentence. I kept praying and asking God to show me, and show me He did,” Shipman said, explaining that her search led her to an in-depth study of the Jewish calendar and the Sabbath. The answers she found in the Bible led her on a search for a church that shared this belief, which she eventually found.
“I found out, that they kept not only the Sabbath, but the Holy Days and dietary laws also,” Shipman said.

Hurricane Irma’s Divine Warning Appeared in 16th Century Hebrew Teaching
By Tsivya Fox September 19, 2017 , 10:30 am
“But Hashem cast a mighty wind upon the sea, and such a great tempest came upon the sea that the ship was in danger of breaking up.” Jonah 1:3 (The Israel Bible™)

Following Hurricane Irma, the most powerful hurricane ever recorded over the Atlantic which stretched 650 miles from east to west, pummeled nine states, rampaged through the Caribbean and darkened and flooded millions of Florida homes and roads, many are recognizing this “natural disaster” as an act of God.
In fact, a Hebrew analysis of the writings of the holy 16th century mystic Rabbi Isaac Luria Ashkenazi, known as the Arizal, reveals that the scholar predicted Irma would come as a result of man turning away from God’s dictates.
The Arizal taught that there are four elements which were used to make up the creation of the world:

Fire – אש-aish

Air – רוח-ruach

Water – מים-mayim

Earth – אדמה-adama

“One way to learn the hidden secrets of the Bible and the Hebrew language is by taking the first letter of each word in a phrase or with regards to a particular concept and finding that it spells out something from which to reap deeper insights,” explained Roni Segal, academic adviser for The Israel Institute of Biblical Studies, a company which teaches Hebrew language and Biblical studies online, to Breaking Israel News.
“This is called ‘roshei teyvot–ראשי תיבות’ and is one of the accepted tools for Bible study. When taking the roshei teyvot of the four elements, as noted by the Arizal, they spell out ‘Irma’ – ארמה.”
The Arizal, along with several other respected rabbis, explained that when man turns his back on Biblical dictates and his behavior becomes corrupt, the elements which make up the earth follow suit. God communicates to man, through the elements, that he must change his ways and come back to Him.
Biblically, it is telling that Hurricane Irma struck in the Hebrew month of Elul-אלול along with Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Jose, Hurricane Katia, a disastrous earthquake in Mexico, and raging fires in California. Traditionally Elul, which began on August 23, is the last month of the Jewish calendar and is the most appropriate time to take an accounting of one’s actions of the past year and repent before Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, which falls this year on September 21.

5777 Population Stats Prove Jewish People Flourishing in Land, Exiles Returning
By Eliana Rudee September 19, 2017 , 1:30 pm
“I will bestow My blessing upon you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars of heaven and the sands on the seashore; and your descendants shall seize the gates of their foes.” Genesis 22:17 (The Israel Bible™)
image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/baby-israeli-flag-.jpg
On Monday, The Central Bureau of Statistics published data on the population of Israel just ahead of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, shining a light on the fulfillment of several Biblical prophesies anticipating the return and flourishing of the Jewish people in Israel.
Israel’s population stands at 8.743 million on the eve of Rosh Hashanah. Jews number over 6.5 million, representing 74.6 percent of Israel’s population, a slight decrease compared to last year. Arabs numbered over 1.8 million of the Israeli population, representing 20.9 percent of Israel’s population, a 3 percent increase over the past year.
The statistics showed a population increase similar to previous years of 1.8 percent and a steady maintenance of Israel’s high immigration and fertility rates, the latter ranking as the highest in Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries.
According to end-time scholar Rabbi Pinchas Winston, this decade’s rise in Israel’s Jewish birthrate is indicative of fulfillment of God’s promise to Abraham of his prophesied descendents.
Bestow My blessing upon you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars of heaven and the sands on the seashore; and your descendants shall seize the gates of their foes. Genesis 22:17
Israel’s high birth rates juxtapose with declining global fertility rates. The global birthrate in the 1950s was 3.6 while last year, the global birthrate was just 1.85, showing a sharp decrease. In contrast, Israel’s birth rate was 3.11, the highest fertility rate in Western developed economies of the OECD. The death rate was four times less the birth rate, with 43,000 deaths in the past year.

Far-Flung World Jewry Adopts Unique Rosh Hashana Traditions, But Eternal Dream Remains
By Eliana Rudee September 18, 2017 , 1:30 pm
“And in that day, a great ram’s horn shall be sounded; and the strayed who are in the land of Assyria and the expelled who are in the land of Egypt shall come and worship Hashem on the holy mount, in Yerushalayim.” Isaiah 27:13 (The Israel Bible™)

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, begins at sundown on Wednesday night and ends at sundown on Friday night. For Jewish families around the world, Rosh Hashanah is celebrated in synagogue and with family, friends, and food. Throughout the diverse and wide-flung Jewish world, different cultures have adopted different Rosh Hashanah traditions, some influenced by their country’s culture, such as in Ethiopia, where the shofar tradition is restricted to the kessim, the village elders, or in Cuba, where 10 grapes are eaten at midnight. But what binds the Jewish people together during Rosh Hashanah is the fundamental importance of passing on traditions through food, togetherness, and prayer, as well as a longing to celebrate the next Rosh Hashanah in a rebuilt Jerusalem.
The French Jewish community is the largest in Europe and the third largest in the world. But even with such a strong community in France, over 10 percent of the French Jewish community has immigrated to Israel, largely in the last decade. Longing for Jerusalem is a part of their identity, as is true around the globe.

French Jews of North African descent follow a Rosh Hashanah seder (ritual, symbolic feast) in which various foods are presented on a plate, each to symbolize what Jews desire for the next year. It is traditional to recite a prayer over each food.

Netanyahu-Trump Meeting in New York to Focus on Iran
By JNS September 18, 2017 , 7:30 am
“Who can believe what we have heard? Upon whom has the arm of Hashem– been revealed?” Isaiah 53:1 (The Israel Bible™)

The Iranian threat will reportedly be the primary focus of a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) this week in New York.
During their scheduled meeting Monday, Netanyahu will reportedly present Trump with Israel’s position on Iran, and also address the subject in a speech during a UNGA meeting Tuesday.
“Israel will not accept Iranian entrenchment on our northern border, which endangers not only us but also our Arab neighbors, and we are committed to acting against it,” Netanyahu said Friday night in New York.
In addition to discussing Iran’s military entrenchment in Syria, Netanyahu is also expected to express Israel’s opposition to the Iranian nuclear agreement brokered by the Obama administration and other world powers.

Trump’s Rosh Hashanah Call With Jewish Leaders Raises Hopes for 5778
By Eliana Rudee September 17, 2017 , 12:30 pm
“Speak to B’nei Yisrael thus: In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe complete rest, a sacred occasion commemorated with loud blasts.” Leviticus 23:24 (The Israel Bible™)

On Friday’s traditional pre-Rosh Hashanah conference call with American Jewish leaders, U.S. President Donald Trump recalled his track record on issues related to the American Jewish community and renewed his promises ahead of the Jewish New Year.

During the call, President Trump reiterated his support for the State of Israel. He expressed hope in seeking peace between Israelis and Palestinians and gratefulness to Holocaust survivors for telling stories that help confront evil, and ensured protection against Jewish communities that face security threats, slander, and hate.

Mark Zell (Twitter)
According to Marc Zell, chairman of Republicans Overseas Israel and Trump insider, the President will continue his proven pro-Israel track record and follow up on promises that he made during the election campaign, Zell told Breaking Israel News.

This Wednesday evening begins Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New year, and the first of 10 days of repentance, which concludes with Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. During the month of Elul leading up to Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Jews are instructed to do a cheshbon hanefesh, an accounting of the soul, to prepare for the reckoning of our doings over the past year.

Trump’s own cheshbon hanefesh – an accounting of how he has measured up to his promises and what he hopes to do in the future for the Jewish people – was laid out in his phone call.

The State Department’s Strange Obsession
By Caroline Glick September 13, 2017 , 8:00 am

The law of Occam’s Razor, refined to common parlance, is that the simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

If we apply Occam’s Razor to recently reported positions of the US State Department, then we can conclude that the people making decisions at Foggy Bottom have “issues” with Jews and with Israel.

Last Friday, JTA reported that the State Department intends to abide by an agreement it reached in 2014 with the Iraqi government and return the Iraqi Jewish archives to Iraq next year.

The Iraqi Jewish archives were rescued in Baghdad by US forces in 2003 from a flooded basement of the Iraqi secret services headquarters. The tens of thousands of documents include everything from sacred texts from as early as the 16th century to Jewish school records.

The books and documents were looted from the Iraqi Jewish community by successive Iraqi regimes. They were restored by the National Archives in Washington, DC.

The Iraqi Jewish community was one of the oldest exilic Jewish communities.

It began with the Babylonian exile following the destruction of the First Temple in Jerusalem 2,600 years ago. Until the early 20th century, it was one of the most accomplished Jewish communities in the world. Some of the most important yeshivas in Jewish history were in present-day Iraq. The Babylonian Talmud was written in Iraq. The Jewish community in Iraq predated the current people of Iraq by nearly a thousand years.

It was a huge community. In 1948, Jews were the largest minority in Baghdad.

Jews comprised a third of the population of Basra. The status of the community was imperiled during World War II, when the pro-Nazi junta of generals that seized control of the government in 1940 instigated the Farhud, a weeklong pogrom. 900 Jews were murdered.

Thousands of Jewish homes, schools and businesses were burned to the ground.

image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/28-BIN-OpEd-Experts-300x2501-300x250.png

With Israel’s establishment, and later with the Baathist seizure of power in Iraq in the 1960s, the once great Jewish community was systematically destroyed.

Between 1948 and 1951, 130,000 Iraqi Jews, three quarters of the community, were forced to flee the country. Those who remained faced massive persecution, imprisonment, torture, execution and expulsion in the succeeding decades.

When US forces overthrew the Baathist regime of Saddam Hussein in 2003, only a dozen or so remained in the country.

Today, there are none left.

As for the current Iraqi government that the State Department wishes to support by implementing its 2014 agreement, it is an Iranian satrapy. Its leadership and military receive operational orders from Iran.

The Iraqi Jewish archive was not created by the Iraqi government. It is comprised of property looted from persecuted and fleeing Jews. In light of this, it ought to be clear to the State Department that the Iraqi government’s claim to ownership is no stronger than the German government’s claim to ownership of looted Jewish property seized by the Nazis would be.

On the other hand, members of the former Jewish community and their descendants have an incontrovertible claim to them. And they have made this claim, repeatedly.

To no avail. As far as the State Department is concerned, they have no claim to sacred books and documents illegally seized from them.

When asked how the US could guarantee that the archive would be properly cared for in Iraq, all State Department spokesman Pablo Rodriguez said was, “When the IJA [Iraqi Jewish archive] is returned, the State Department will urge the Iraqi government to take the proper steps necessary to preserve the archive, and make it available to members of the public to enjoy.”

It is hard not to be taken aback by the callousness of Rodriguez’s statement.

Again, the “members of the public” who wish to “enjoy” the archive are not living in Iraq. They are not living in Iraq because they were forced to run for their lives – after surrendering their communal archives to their persecutors. And still today, as Jews, they will be unable to visit the archives in Iraq without risking their lives because today, at a minimum, the Iraqi regime kowtows to forces that openly seek the annihilation of the Jewish People.

And the State Department knows this.

Then there is the second story that came out this week, whose implications are no less dismal.

Friday, the Washington Free Beacon reported that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is leading an effort by State Department officials to convince President Donald Trump to force Israel to return $75 million in congressionally authorized supplementary aid.

On the face of it, the demand is part of a turf war that the State Department has long fought with Congress regarding the scope of Congress’s power to engage in foreign policy. In the final year of the Obama administration, Obama forced Israel to agree not to accept supplementary appropriations in defense aid from Congress beyond what was agreed upon in the memorandum of understanding he concluded. Obama’s position was rightly viewed as a means to undermine Israel’s relations with members of Congress.

But it was equally a means to undermine Congress’s ability to assert its constitutional power to appropriate funding.

As negotiations between Israel and the Obama administration progressed last year, Senator Lindsay Graham implored Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to accede to Obama’s demand.

But in the empty hope of averting a last-minute move by the Obama administration to enable an anti-Israel resolution to pass at the UN Security Council, and concerned that a Hillary Clinton administration would offer Israel less assistance than Obama had offered, Netanyahu signed the deal.

Graham reacted to the MOU’s conclusion by stating that it is unconstitutional and therefore Congress would disregard it.

After Trump was elected, his advisers assured Israel that they would not enforce the MOU’s restrictions on supplementary funding. And yet, now, the State Department is seeking to do just that.

While in many ways this is an internal American fight, the unmistakable fact is that the State Department always seems to fight its turf war with Congress over issues relating to Israel. Moreover, the fight always involves bearing down on some of the dumbest aspects of traditional US Middle East policy.

Over the past 20 years, the State Department has fought and won two major battles against Congress relating to Israel. First, the State Department has continuously blocked the 1996 Embassy Act that requires the State Department to move the US embassy to Jerusalem.

Second, the State Department fought and won a Supreme Court battle to block implementation of the law requiring it to permit US citizens born in Jerusalem to have Israel listed as their country of birth on their passports.

In both cases, the State Department’s actions reflected a longstanding policy of mollycoddling antisemitic Arab regimes and terrorist groups at Israel’s expense. No US interest has been advanced by these efforts. To the contrary, as Senator Tom Cotton argues in relation to the State Department’s current efforts to force Israel to return the $75m. supplemental appropriation for missile defense projects, the US harms itself by undermining its key ally in fighting the enemies it shares with Israel.

Moreover, the $75m. supplemental assistance for development of missile defense technologies is not a gift to Israel. As the current standoff between the US and North Korea makes clear, the US itself is in dire need of just the sort of anti-missile technologies that Israel is developing. Indeed, the US stands to lose if Israel cuts back its missile defense programs due to lack of funding.

So again, we return to Occam’s Razor.

The State Department’s determination to return the purloined Iraqi Jewish archive to the Iraqi government, like its efforts to convince Trump to demand that Israel return the supplemental aid, doesn’t appear to be guided by any underlying concern for US interests.

Why would Egypt or Saudi Arabia object to Israel developing new means to intercept Hamas, Hezbollah or Iranian missiles? So like its fights against congressional efforts to recognize Israel’s capital city, and indeed like the State Department’s insistence that the US has no option other than recertifying Iranian compliance with Obama’s nuclear deal with the ayatollahs despite overwhelming evidence of Iranian noncompliance, there is an undercurrent of obsessive vindictiveness to the State Department’s current efforts.

In issue after issue, the same officials engage in behavior that appears to reflect a compulsive habit of always demanding that the US adopt positions that weaken US-Israel ties and undermine Jewish rights in Israel, and throughout the Middle East.

Perhaps there is another explanation for this consistent pattern of behavior.

But the simplest explanation is that the State Department suffers from an unhealthy obsession with regard to Jewish rights and the Jewish state.

“Jewish People Are in Transition From Ingathering of Exiles to Redemption”
By Maayan Jaffe-Hoffman September 14, 2017 , 8:30 am
“Go forth from your native land and from your father’s house to the land that I will show you.” Genesis 12:1 (The Israel Bible™)
The Jewish people are living in the second stage of redemption, the period of the ingathering of the exiles, believes Jewish historian Rabbi Shimon Apisdorf.
“Kibbutz galuyot (ingathering of exiles) is a stage in the life of the Jewish people and we are deeply immersed in that stage,” he told Breaking Israel News.
Speaking about his new Yeshiva for the Nations course, “The Role of the Land of Israel Throughout Jewish History,” Rabbi Apisdorf said, “The class focuses on how, in every stage of Jewish history, starting from the matriarchs and the patriarchs through contemporary times, the land of Israel has played a critical role, whether the Jewish people were living in the land or not. The course reviews each important stage of Jewish history and its connection to Israel.
“It is unfolding, in our midst and underway right now,” he said.
Many people think of history as what took place in the past, Rabbi Apisdorf explained. In contrast, the Jewish people look at history as active and unfolding, based on an ongoing relationship with God. For example, when God introduces Himself to the Jewish people and gives them the Torah, He references recent history – that He rescued the Jewish people from slavery in the land of Egypt.
I Hashem am your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, the house of bondage. Exodus 20: 2.

Locust ‘Plague’ of Biblical Proportions Strikes Across Globe [WATCH]
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz September 13, 2017 , 10:30 am
“Locusts invaded all the land of Egypt and settled within all the territory of Egypt in a thick mass; never before had there been so many, nor will there ever be so many again.” Exodus 10:14 (The Israel Bible™)

In addition to the recent hurricanes and earthquakes, at least one of the plagues of Egypt has returned as swarms of locusts descended en masse on two separate parts of the globe in recent weeks.

A plague of locusts attacked South Eastern Trinidad last week. “People are scared and are panicking because of the amount of locusts. I won’t say this is the first time we have seen locusts, but it is the first time seeing it in such a magnitude,” Chairman of the Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation Glenn Ram was quoted in the Trinidad Express as saying.

Ram said that the damage to crops has been limited by spraying, but the bugs are an incredible annoyance to residents, “getting into clothing, vehicles and anywhere else they can occupy.”
VIDEO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TS-Jd8rkLDw
The residents of Trinidad are experiencing a taste of the eighth plague the Egyptians suffered when God was punishing them for enslaving the Jews.
For if you refuse to let My people go, tomorrow I will bring locusts on your territory. They shall cover the surface of the land, so that no one will be able to see the land. They shall devour the surviving remnant that was left to you after the hail; and they shall eat away all your trees that grow in the field. Moreover, they shall fill your palaces and the houses of all your courtiers and of all the Egyptians. Exodus 10:4-6
Trinidad was not the only location to be plagued by locusts recently. Huge swarms of locusts devastated farms throughout large areas of Southern Russia last month as well.

New UN Report Accuses “Occupation” of Harming Palestinian Economy, Stealing From PA
By Abra Forman September 13, 2017 , 12:30 pm
“A false witness will not go unpunished; He who testifies falsely is doomed.” Proverbs 19:9 (The Israel Bible™)

A new report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) blames every significant failure of the Palestinian economy on “50 years of [Israeli] occupation… with no end in sight”.
“It is the longest occupation in recent history. For the Palestinian people, these have been five decades of de-development, suppressed human potential and denial of the right to development,” the report claims.
Brazen in its accusations and almost comical in its complete disregard of any geopolitical context or realities, the report blames Israel’s “occupation” for lack of a viable Palestinian agricultural industry, high unemployment, suffering in Gaza, and even falling donor support. It also accuses Israel of stealing money from the Palestinian Authority (PA).
According to UNCTAD, Israel has “hollowed out” the agricultural and industrial sectors of the “Occupied Palestinian Territories”. Only 1 in 5 hectares of cultivable land are utilized, and most arable land lacks irrigation, the report says. It also blames settlements for “annexing” West Bank land that could be used by Palestinians.

2,000-Year-Old Bones of Rebel Jews Murdered by Romans Finally Laid to Rest
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz September 15, 2017 , 9:30 am
“The death of His faithful ones is grievous in Hashem’s sight.” Psalms 116:14 (The Israel Bible™)

A Christian archaeologist’s discovery of ancient bones in a cave in Samaria unravelled a 2,000-year-old murder mystery, and led to the local Jews performing a rare and powerful Torah commandment they believe will help bring the Third Temple. The moving story brought Jews and Christians together, emphasizing how the roots of both religions are inextricably intertwined in the Holy Land.

Dr. Scott Stripling, an archaeologist and provost of The Bible Seminary in Texas, was exploring a cave complex at Khirbet el-Maqatir near the city of Ofra in Samaria in 2013 when he discovered a jumble of bones. Dr. Stripling has been the co-director of the dig for 20 years on behalf the Associates for Biblical Research.

“I have no doubt that these people were murdered in the first revolt in 69 CE at the hands of the Romans,” Dr. Stripling told Breaking Israel News. “It was a 2,000-year-old mass-murder mystery that was solved, and we now can tell their story.”

“Many of the bones were disarticulated and jumbled, perhaps by animals, but we were able to determine that one of the women was arthritic and elderly, and one was a six-year-old child. Most of the skeletons belonged to young women.”

image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/scottstripling.jpg

Dr. Scott Stripling (Courtesy)
Dr. Stripling explained that in a last-ditch attempt to avoid being slaughtered by the Romans, the people of the town repurposed the olive press cave, broke through to a cistern, and dug a hiding system.

“We found the skeletons of six people in the olive press area, and fragments of bones from two people in the smaller hiding area,” Dr. Stripling said. “The last moments of their lives must have been terrifying.

“The men must have made their last stand in a massive tower above, since it has Roman arrowheads and nails from the Roman soldiers’ shoes were embedded in the stones,” he explained. “Apparently they were trying to hide their families in the caves below.”

Anthropologist Marina Faerman of Hebrew University determined that the bones were from seven women aged 6-60, and one male youth. Elisabetta Boaretto at the Weizmann Institute conducted carbon dating tests to date the bones to the first century BCE. This result was consistent with coins found at the site, identified by numismatist Dr. Yoav Farhi, and pottery deciphered by ceramic typologist Peretz Reuven.
Dr. Stripling intended to rebury the bones at the site where they were found. Frequently, human remains found at archaeological sites are stored away in universities without ceremony. Yaakov Ehrlich, a surveyor who has volunteered with Dr. Stripling for many years, approached him and requested that after the scientific tests and studies were complete, he be permitted to give the bones a proper burial.
Ehrlich’s request to bury the bones came from a powerful Torah imperative that transcends simply honoring the dead. Ehrlich was obligated to care for the bones found at the dig since they were from individuals who passed away and have no one else to take care of their burial. In Jewish law, this is referred to as meit miztvah, a Torah commandment so important that it supersedes most other commandments.concerning meit mitzvah, the bones should be buried where they are found.
But in this case, there was a complication. “The Arab villages in the area are building, and they are expanding in the direction of the caves,” Ehrlich explained. “Eventually, they will build on the site. If the bones are buried there, the Arabs will eventually build on top of them.”
Ehrlich emphasized that it was likely the people were very observant Jews. The olive press was surrounded by ritual baths, indicating that the community produced olive oil for use in the Temple.
“Jews who serviced the Temple deserve our greatest respect,” Ehrlich said. “Perhaps through honoring them, we will merit seeing the Third Temple just as they saw the Second Temple.”
He emphasized that the request did not disrupt the scientists and their study. In fact, their faith made them even more sympathetic, Ehrlich noted.
“The Evangelicals involved in the study were absolute professionals in their fields, but it was very touching how they also understood the urgency of the mitzvah to bury the dead,” he told Breaking Israel News.

WATCH: Hurricane Splitting of Sea in Florida Like Scene Out of Exodus
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz September 14, 2017 , 11:30 am
“Then Moshe held out his arm over the sea and Hashem drove back the sea with a strong east wind all that night, and turned the sea into dry ground. The waters were split.” Exodus 14:21 (The Israel Bible™)

A strange sight straight out of the Bible suddenly appeared when the powerful winds of Hurricane Irma blew away the parts of the Atlantic Ocean, leaving behind swathes of land dry enough for the Children of Israel to tread upon.

America witnessed the awe-inspiring might of extremes in God’s mastery over nature when two of the most devastating and powerful hurricanes in history hit the southern Atlantic Coast back-to-back in recent weeks. Harvey dumped a record 51.8 inches of rain on Texas, causing massive flooding and damages estimated at over $150 billion. Irma, the most powerful hurricane ever recorded over the Atlantic, displayed an entirely different aspect of God’s might with 190 MPH winds.

When Irma finally made landfall in Florida, it had calmed considerably, but the winds were still strong enough to literally blow the ocean away. In the opposite manner of water-laden Hurricane Harvey, Irma made dry pathways through the ocean in precisely the manner described in Exodus when the Children of Israel were in dire straits on the shore of the Red Sea.

Then Moshe held out his arm over the sea and Hashem drove back the sea with a strong east wind all that night, and turned the sea into dry ground. The waters were split, and the Israelites went into the sea on dry ground. Exodus 14:2

This amazing and rare phenomenon occurred in both the Bahamas and Florida. Areas normally part of the ocean were suddenly dry, leaving boats and sea mammals stranded.

The strange sight was the result of the same forces that flooded Texas, and the same force that divided the Red Sea: powerful winds. Storm surges are created when winds move massive amounts of seawater from one place to the other. In the case of Texas, seawater was moved inland. In the cases of the the Bahamas and Florida, water from shallow areas close to shore was moved out to sea. In addition, the eye of the storm creates a vacuum, sucking water in from the edges of the storm system.
WHERE IS THE OCEAN? Hurricane Irma sucks sea water away from Bahamas beaches

Millions of “Lost Jews” May Return to Fold With Major Shift in Israeli Status
By Eliana Rudee September 12, 2017 , 1:30 pm
“Thus said Hashem: I am going to take the stick of Yosef—which is in the hand of Efraim—and of the tribes of Yisrael associated with him, and I will place the stick of Yehuda upon it and make them into one stick; they shall be joined in My hand.” Ezekiel 37:19 (The Israel Bible™)

A Knesset-appointed committee has recommended a “game-changing” new status for non-Jews with Jewish roots that could allow them to reconnect with Israel and the Jewish people after thousands of years of exile. After the Jewish holidays this month, an initial report, detailing the Ministry of Diaspora’s response, is expected to be released.

According to Ashley Perry (Perez), who was invited to speak before the committee on this topic, this is a “potentially game-changing moment for the Jewish people at the beginning of the 21st century that could rectify a historical injustice and have so many practical positive ramifications of Jewish people and state of Israel.”

Perry is the president of Reconectar, an organization that helps descendants of Spanish and Portuguese Jewish communities (known as Bnei Anousim, Marranos, and Conversos) reconnect with the Jewish world and Israel. He recommended to the committee that the government allow these visitors to stay in Israel for longer than the three months issued by a tourist visa, as well as send messages of welcome.

He told Breaking Israel News, “It is my firm belief that this is a crucial moment in development of relations between two significant, disconnected communities. One is the formative Jewish world and the other are the descendants of forcibly converted Spanish and Portuguese communities that would like to, in some way, reconnect with the Jewish world – which number at least around the same number of Jews in the world. Meaning that the Jewish world population could double.”

Powerful animated monologue proves why Anti-Zionism Is Anti-Semitism
Without a shadow of a doubt, anti-Zionism is inherently, essentially, necessarily anti-Semitic.

Anti-Zionism propagates the ideology that says Israel has no right to exist.

Anti-Zionism is the movement that strives to use political, economic and moral pressure to wipe Israel off the map and replace it with an Arab-majority Palestine.

Here are three reasons why anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism:

First, anti-Zionism says Jews alone should be stripped of their internationally-recognized right to a space where their distinctive culture can flourish.

Second, Anti-Zionism fails to recognize Jews as political equals and demands that Jews become subordinate. It’sa demand that Jews should become permanent minorities again. It’s an assertion of political supremacy over Jews. That’s anti-Semitism.

Third, anti-Zionism exposes Jews to dangers for which anti-Zionists have no answer. For millennia, Jews faced persecution and the nation-state of Israel is the answer to protecting all Jews. Anti-Zionism says the Jews cannot be the guarantors of their own existence in Israel. That’s anti-Semitism.
Anti-Zionism disregards the beliefs, agency and aspirations of the Jewish people. That’s anti-Semitism.

Was Destruction of the World Trade Center Part of Messianic Process?
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz September 11, 2017 , 1:30 pm
“Said he, ‘Your name shall no longer be Yaakov, but Yisrael, for you have striven with beings divine and human, and have prevailed.’” Genesis 32:29 (The Israel Bible™)

The 9/11 attacks took place 16 years ago, forever changing America, and according to one end-of days expert, marked a major turning point in the process of redemption.
On Tuesday, September 11, 2001, 19 Islamic Al Qaeda terrorists hijacked four passenger airliners. Two planes were flown into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, the tallest buildings in the world at the time, causing them to collapse less than two hours later. A third plane flew into the Pentagon, leading to a partial collapse of the building’s western side. The fourth plane initially was steered toward Washington D.C., but crashed into a field after its passengers tried to overcome the hijackers.
The attacks killed 2,997 people and injured over 6,000 others. 343 firefighters and 72 policemen were killed in the aftermath.
In an interesting parallel, Judaism has its own version of 9/11. To Americans, 9/11 signifies the eleventh day of the ninth month. In Israel, the day is written before the month, so 9/11 becomes the ninth day of the eleventh month. In the Hebrew calendar, 9/11 is Tisha B’Av, the day of mourning when the two Temples were destroyed.

7,200-Year-Old Vessel Unearthed in Israel Shows Rituality of Food Storage
By JNS September 10, 2017 , 9:30 am
“For your part, take of everything that is eaten and store it away, to serve as food for you and for them.” Genesis 6:21 (The Israel Bible™)

A 7,200-year-old pottery vessel recently unearthed at the prehistoric site of Tel Tsaf in Israel’s Jordan Valley is the first evidence of the ritualistic and political significance of large-scale food storage in the ancient Near East, the University of Haifa reported Wednesday.
Prof. Danny Rosenberg of the Zinman Institute of Archaeology heads the research project at Tel Tsaf along with Dr. Florian Klimscha of the German Archaeological Institute in Berlin. The site is notable for its preservation of architecture, organic materials and other types of material culture.
“Until now, discussions of the early transition to complex societies in this area have focused mainly on later periods and on the connection between the development of socioeconomic elites and the ability of certain individuals or families to store large quantities of food, beyond their own needs for survival,” Rosenberg explained.
“The findings at Tel Tsaf provide first-hand evidence of the early connection between food storage on a large scale and the observance of a ritual associated with the successful storage and preservation of agricultural yields,” Rosenberg added.
“It’s really uncommon and doesn’t look like any vessel we have.”
The findings from Tel Tsaf include numerous silos used for large-scale grain storage, evidence of the storage of food on a scale not previously documented at sites from that period.

North Korea’s Ultimatum to America
By Caroline Glick September 6, 2017 , 7:00 am
The nuclear confrontation between the US and North Korea entered a critical phase Sunday with North Korea’s conduct of an underground test of a thermonuclear bomb.

If the previous round of this confrontation earlier this summer revolved around Pyongyang’s threat to attack the US territory of Guam, Sunday’s test, together with North Korea’s recent tests of intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching the continental US, was a direct threat to US cities.

In other words, the current confrontation isn’t about US superpower status in Asia, and the credibility of US deterrence or the capabilities of US military forces in the Pacific. The confrontation is now about the US’s ability to protect the lives of its citizens.

The distinction tells us a number of important things. All of them are alarming.

First, because this is about the lives of Americans, rather than allied populations like Japan and South Korea, the US cannot be diffident in its response to North Korea’s provocation. While attenuated during the Obama administration, the US’s position has always been that US military forces alone are responsible for guaranteeing the collective security of the American people.

Pyongyang is now directly threatening that security with hydrogen bombs. So if the Trump administration punts North Korea’s direct threat to attack US population centers with nuclear weapons to the UN Security Council, it will communicate profound weakness to its allies and adversaries alike.

image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/28-BIN-OpEd-Experts-300x2501-300x250.png

Obviously, this limits the options that the Trump administration has. But it also clarifies the challenge it faces.

The second implication of North Korea’s test of their plutonium-based bomb is that the US’s security guarantees, which form the basis of its global power and its alliance system are on the verge of becoming completely discredited.

In an interview, Sunday with Fox News’s Trish Regan, former US ambassador to the UN John Bolton was asked about the possible repercussions of a US military assault against North Korea for the security of South Korea.

Regan asked, “What are we risking though if we say we’re going to go in with strategic military strength?… Are we going to end up with so many people’s lives gone in South Korea, in Seoul because we make that move?” Bolton responded with brutal honesty.

“Let me ask you this: how do you feel about dead Americans?” In other words, Bolton said that under prevailing conditions, the US faces the painful choice between imperiling its own citizens and imperiling the citizens of an allied nation. And things will only get worse. Bolton warned that if North Korea’s nuclear threat is left unaddressed, US options will only become more problematic and limited in the years to come.

This then brings us to the third lesson of the current round of confrontation between the US and North Korea.

If you appease an enemy on behalf of an ally then you aren’t an ally.

And eventually, your alliance become empty of all meaning.

For 25 years, three successive US administrations opted to turn a blind eye to North Korea’s nuclear program in large part out of concern for South Korea.

Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama all sought to appease North Korea’s aggressive nuclear adventurism because they didn’t believe they had a credible military option to deal with it.

In the 1980s, North Korea developed and deployed a conventional arsenal of bombs and artillery along the demilitarized zone capable of vaporizing Seoul.

Any US military strike against North Korea’s nuclear installation it was and continues to be argued would cause the destruction of Seoul and the murder of millions of South Koreans.

So US efforts to appease Pyongyang on behalf of Seoul emptied the US-South Korean alliance of meaning. The US can only serve as the protector of its allies, and so assert its great power status in the Pacific and worldwide, if it prevents its allies from being held hostage by its enemies.

And now, not only does the US lack a clear means of defending South Korea, and Japan, America itself is threatened by the criminal regime it demurred from effectively confronting.

Regardless of the means, US President Donald Trump decides to use to respond to North Korea’s provocative actions and threats to America’s national security, given the nature of the situation, it is clear that the balance of forces on the ground cannot and will not remain as they have been.

If the US strikes North Korea in a credible manner and successfully diminishes its capacity to physically threaten the US, America will have taken the first step towards rebuilding its alliances in Asia.

On the other hand, if the current round of hostilities does not end with a significant reduction of North Korea’s offensive capabilities, either against the US or its allies, then the US will be hard pressed to maintain its posture as a Pacific power. So long as Pyongyang has the ability to directly threaten the US and its allies, US strategic credibility in East Asia will be shattered.

This then brings us to China.

China has been the main beneficiary of North Korea’s conventional and nuclear aggression and brinksmanship.

This state of affairs was laid bare in a critical way last month.

In mid-August, Trump’s then chief strategist Steve Bannon was preparing a speech Trump was set to deliver that would have effectively declared a trade war against China in retaliation for its predatory trade practices against US companies and technology. The speech was placed in the deep freeze – and Bannon was forced to resign his position – when North Korea threatened to attack the US territory of Guam with nuclear weapons. The US, Trump’s other senior advisers argued, couldn’t declare a trade war against China when it needed China’s help to restrain North Korea.

So by enabling North Korea’s aggression against the US and its allies, China has created a situation where the US has become neutralized as a strategic competitor.

Rather than advance its bilateral interests – like curbing China’s naval aggression in the South China Sea – in its contacts with China, the US is forced into the position of supplicant, begging China to restrain North Korea in order to avert war.

If the US does not act to significantly downgrade North Korea’s offensive capabilities now, when its own territory is being threatened, it is difficult to see how the US will be able to develop an effective strategy for coping with China’s rise as an economic and strategic rival in Asia and beyond. That is, the US’s actions now in response to North Korea’s threat to its national security will determine whether or not the US will be in a position to develop and implement a wider strategy for maintaining its capacity to project its economic and military power in the Pacific in the near and long term.

Finally, part of the considerations that need to inform US action now involve what North Korea’s success in developing a nuclear arsenal under the noses of successive US administrations means for the future of nuclear proliferation.

In all likelihood, unless the North Korean nuclear arsenal is obliterated, Pyongyang’s nuclear triumphalism will precipitate a spasm of nuclear proliferation in Asia and in the Middle East. The implications of this for the US and its allies will be far reaching.

Not only can Japan and South Korea be reasonably expected to develop nuclear arsenals. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and other inherently unstable Arab states can be expected to develop or purchase nuclear arsenals in response to concerns over North Korea and its ally Iran with its nuclear weapons program linked to Pyongyang’s.

In other words, if the US does not respond in a strategically profound way to Pyongyang now, it will not only lose its alliance system in Asia, it will see the rapid collapse of its alliance system and superpower status in the Middle East.

Israel, for one, will be imperiled by the sudden diffusion of nuclear power.

Monday morning, North Korea followed up its thermonuclear bomb test with a spate of threats to destroy the United States. These threats are deadly even if North Korea doesn’t attack the US with its nuclear weapons. If the US does not directly defeat North Korea in a clear-cut way now, its position as a superpower in Asia and worldwide will be destroyed and its ability to defend its own citizens will be called into question with increasing frequency and lethality.

Evangelical Christian's Collection of Hebrew and Jewish Texts Miraculously Survives Floods
By JNI Media September 8, 2017 , 9:30 am

“Let not this Book of the Teaching cease from your lips, but recite it day and night, so that you may observe faithfully all that is written in it.” Joshua 1:8 (The Israel Bible™)

image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/books.jpg

Evangelical Christian Adrian (second from right) stands with the Jewish volunteers who helped rescue his collection of Hebrew texts from his flooded home in Houston after Hurricane Harvey. (Courtesy ZAKA)
The only treasure that survived Hurricane Harvey’s flood damage in the home belonging to Adrian, a member of evangelical Christian Pastor Becky Keenan’s Gulf Meadows Church in Houston, Texas, was his prized library of Jewish inter linear Hebrew/English study texts and Bibles.

“All my secular books were destroyed, but the pages of these books are still dry, still usable and without any mold,” the grateful Adrian said.

It was one of those extraordinary stories that have come out of the Hurricane Harvey clean-up effort of the Israeli ZAKA mission. As part of their humanitarian clean-up campaign, working with the Jewish and Christian communities hardest hit by Hurricane Harvey, the ZAKA Search and Rescue team was sent by Pastor Keenan to help clear the homes of members of her congregation.

It was almost a week after the hurricane had flooded his home, and Adrian was finally able to return. “The moisture had turned the house into a swampland,” he told Joshua Wander, one of the ZAKA Israel volunteers. And yet, miraculously, the Jewish texts, which have withstood almost 2,000 years of exile, have also stood up to Houston’s flood waters.
Adrian said he studies the texts to better understand the Jewish people, to seek “cohesion between Jewish and Christian communities. We are trying to build a bridge here.”
ZAKA Chairman Yehuda Meshi-Zahav, says he is proud of the hard, physical work his volunteers are performing for everyone in need in Houston. “Our sages tell us that God created man in his image. Not just Jews, but all men,” he added in a statement. “ZAKA is a humanitarian organization that provides assistance, regardless of race, religion or gender.”

More End of Days Phenomena: 8.4 Earthquake in Mexico Leads to Tsunami
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz September 8, 2017 , 11:25 am

“It will be a time of trouble, the like of which has never been since the nation came into being. At that time, your people will be rescued, all who are found inscribed in the book.” Daniel 12:1 (The Israel Bible™)

8.4 magnitude earthquake hit Mexico, killing at least six and generating a tsunami. The quake, which was felt as far as Mexico City and Guatemala City, struck 74 miles off the southern Pacific Coast at 12:49 a.m. ET Friday. The United States Geological Survey reported several aftershocks, most registering more than magnitude 5.

Mexico’s civil protection agency reported this was the most powerful earthquake to hit the capital since a 1985 quake destroyed sections of Mexico City, killing thousands of people.

Initial waves were recorded at the Mexican cities of Salina Cruz, Puerto Madero, and Huatulco between 0.3 and 0.7 meters over tide level. They predicted waves between 0.3 and 1 meters for the Cook Islands, Ecuador, El Salvador, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guatemala, and Kiribati. Waves below 0.3 meters were forecast for countries as far as Australia, Japan, and Vietnam.

This is the most recent in a wave of major natural disasters in that part of the world. Texas suffered the costliest natural disaster in US history when Hurrican Harvey slammed into the Gulf Coast two weeks ago. The hurricane dumped a record 51.88 inches of rain, causing 38 deaths and $190 billion damage from the massive flooding.

In the wake of the hurricane-generated disaster, less attention has been given to wildfires raging across eight states in the western United States, forcing thousands to flee their homes. Millions of acres of forest have been burned in the past week, creating hazardous breathing conditions in many parts of the Pacific Northwest. In California, the La Tuna fire near Burbank has burned nearly 7,200 acres, becoming the largest fire ever recorded in Los Angeles in terms of area.

The troubles are far from over as Florida braces for a potential hit from Hurricane Irma, the second of three hurricanes born under the solar eclipse as it passed over the Atlantic Ocean less than three weeks ago. Irma, a category five hurricane, is the most powerful storm ever recorded over the Atlantic and had recorded sustained winds of over 190 MPH. Across the Caribbean, at least 13 people are confirmed to have died in the storm. On Thursday, the storm hit Puerto Rico, leaving more than one million people without electricity and 56,000 people without water.

Though it is impossible to predict the path of a storm, meteorologists warned Irma could turn north and hit central Florida over the weekend. Florida’s Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency in all 67 counties in his state, ordering 7,000 National Guard troops to report for duty by Friday morning.

Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, one of the most prominent rabbis of this generation, warned that Miami is in grave danger from Hurricane Irma and that people should evacuate.

Yet another eclipse-touched hurricane, dubbed Jose, is still developing in the Atlantic Ocean.

One week before the solar eclipse transversed the continental US, Breaking Israel News was the first news service to publish an article about a prediction in the Yalkut Moshe, written by Rabbi Moshe ben Yisrael Benyamin in Safed in 1894. Rabbi Benyamin predicted that when a solar eclipse occurs at the beginning of the Hebrew month of Elul, as this one did, “It is a bad sign for the other nations, bringing great damage to the kings of the East, and bringing great storms and death to animals.”

At the time of the eclipse, meteorologists predicted that the three storm systems under the path of the eclipse would not develop into significant hurricanes. Four days later, the prediction of the Yalkut Moshe was revealed to be accurate.

Rabbi Daniel Asore explained the purpose of natural catastrophes in the end-of-days.

“It comes as a natural phenomenon, but it is really meant to affect the people,” Rabbi Asor said to Breaking Israel News. “Natural disasters are meant as a warning, like a father slapping the table in order to warn his children that they are doing something that angers him.”

Of more concern at the time of the eclipse was the escalation in hostile relations between the US and North Korea. Rabbi Yosef Berger, the rabbi of King David’s Tomb on Mount Zion, identified the “kings of the East” in the prophecy as Kim Jong Un, the despotic leader of North Korea. Since the eclipse, that situation has further deteriorated with North Korea firing a missile over Japan’s airspace and initiating an underground test of a hydrogen bomb.

With Call to Prayer, Trump Connects to America’s “Religious Roots”
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz September 7, 2017 , 12:30 pm
“Go, inquire of Hashem on my behalf, and on behalf of the people, and on behalf of all Yehuda, concerning the words of this scroll that has been found.” II Kings 22:13 (The Israel Bible™)
image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/trump-hands.png
President Donald Trump prays with pastors in the Oval Office after Hurricane Harvey. (Screenshot)
In the wake of the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, President Donald Trump has brought more religion into his politics, calling for a national day of prayer and attending church in Washington, D.C. and Texas.

Though much of his voter base came from religious Christians, President Trump is not overtly devout, nor is he known to attend church regularly. He went to a church service after his inauguration in January, but did not sit in a pew again until Easter.

Though Torah law is certainly not incumbent upon American presidents, it is interesting to note that kings of Israel were required to take part in religious ceremonies. In particular, kings were commanded to read a section of the Torah in front of the people of Israel once every seven years.

Every seventh year, the year set for remission, at the festival of Sukkot, when all Yisrael comes to appear before Hashem your God in the place that He will choose, you shall read this Teaching aloud in the presence of all Yisrael. Deuteronomy 31:10-11

But President Trump seemed to undergo a shift after Hurricane Harvey, turning to prayer in the wake of one of the worst natural disasters in US history. Last Friday, he issued a proclamation for a national day of prayer for those who have suffered from the storm.

“We are deeply grateful for those performing acts of service, and we pray for healing and comfort for those in need,” the president’s proclamation read.

“I call on all Americans and houses of worship throughout the Nation to join in one voice of prayer, as we seek to uplift one another and assist those suffering from the consequences of this terrible storm.”

After the signing of the call to prayer, the president asked Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress to pray for him and the nation. A video showing the pastor praying while other clergymen laid on hands went viral.

True to his word, the president set a personal example for the day of prayer when he and First Lady Melania attended Sunday services at St. John’s Church near the White House. This is the first time the president has visited the Episcopal church, popularly referred to as “the Church of the Presidents,” since taking office.

The crisis generated by Hurricane Harvey seems to have caused the president to open his heart and turn to religion in more ways. When he went to Texas for his second visit the disaster area, he stopped off at a First Church in Pearland. Pastor Ken Gurley described the president as being “compassionate and concerned, extremely engaged, and resonating sincerity” during his visit to the church. While there, the president and first lady engaged in the mitzvah (Torah commandment) of handing out food and emergency supplies to the flood victims.

“It is very important that presidents invoke God’s name and connect to religion,” Israeli politician Moshe Feiglin, head of the Manhigut Yehudit (Jewish Leadership), a right-wing religious party, and former Knesset member, told Breaking Israel News.

Feiglin noted that Trump’s turning to religion is a positive move, and powerfully American.

“In America, it is not a religious matter, and certainly not an exclusively Christian matter. It is a matter of American culture, the roots of the country, and an essential part of the national identity. It is empowering everyone, no matter what their religion. Even the concept of separation of church and state is in order to strengthen freedom of religion, not to eliminate religion.”

Feiglin gave examples of religious symbols in American systems: swearing in presidents on Bibles and printing “In God We Trust” on the currency.

In contrast to the deadly confrontation between left-wing protesters and Neo-Nazis in Charlottesville just one month ago, the crisis in Texas has presented opportunities to join together that transcend politics. Texas Governor Greg Abbott echoed in the president’s call for a day of prayer and said this is a time for Texans and Americans to unite in prayer.

“It doesn’t matter what faith or religion or belief that you have,” Abbott told Fox and Friends. “This is a time for Texans and Americans to unite and pray for thanksgiving for those who have risked their lives. The first responders and volunteers who’ve supported our fellow Texans, but also pray for the victims of this horrific storm. And we want to unite as one state and one nation.”

Leading Mystic Rabbi Warns Miami’s Jews to Flee Before Hurricane Irma [WATCH]
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz September 7, 2017 , 10:30 am
“Hashem sat enthroned at the Flood; Hashem sits enthroned, king forever. May Hashem grant strength to His people; may Hashem bestow on His people wellbeing.” Psalms 29:10-11 (The Israel Bible™)

image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/kan-irm-1.png

Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky predicted that Hurricane Irma would bring danger to Florida. (Breaking Israel News)
With one word, Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, one of the most prominent rabbis of this generation, warned that Miami is in grave danger from Hurricane Irma and that people should evacuate.

On Wednesday, a rabbi was sent as an emissary to consult with Rabbi Kanievsky, an aged Torah scholar and one of the greatest spiritual leaders alive today, about the possibility that Hurricane Irma might hit Florida, wreaking havoc and endangering lives. The rabbi’s assistant explained the dire situation that was created when Hurricane Harvey hit the Gulf Coast of Texas two weeks ago. The assistant then explained the uncertainty over whether Hurricane Irma, now a Category Five Hurricane and the most powerful Atlantic hurricane on record, will make landfall in Florida.

“There was a hurricane two weeks ago, with a lot of wind and rain, and many people were killed,” Rabbi Kanievsky’s assistant said to the aged sage in Hebrew. “They evacuated some people, but for others it was too late. Now, they say the same thing may happen in Miami. They want to evacuate people on Shabbat (the Sabbath).”

The Jewish laws of Shabbat are very strict and breaking them is only permitted if an actual existential threat exists. Cases in which the danger is only in potential require a rabbinic ruling. If there is an actual danger, it is considered virtuous to preserve life by breaking Shabbat.

“The question is should the Jews listen to the [authorities] telling them to evacuate or no?” the rabbi was asked.

After several moment of consideration and thought, the rabbi answered with one word: “Sakana (danger).”

The rabbi was essentially making a Halachic (Torah law) judgement that since he considered the danger to be real, Jews are permitted to desecrate the Sabbath in order to evacuate the region.

On Wednesday, Irma slammed into the French Caribbean island territories of St. Martin and St. Barts, killing at least eight people and injuring 23.

Even if Florida weathers through Irma, the hurricane generated woes may not be over. Irma is the second of three hurricanes that developed in the Atlantic Ocean while the solar eclipse passed overhead. At the time, meteorologists did not anticipate any of the three storm systems would develop into hurricanes.

Hurricane Harvey did develop, turning into one of the worst storms to ever hit America and the costliest natural disaster in US history. The second system, Irma, also exceeded predictions and is threatening to move onto Florida after leaving the Caribbean Islands devastated. The third eclipse-touched storm system, dubbed Jose, was just upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane and is en-route to the islands its sister storm recently left.

he Seven Holy Cities of Israel
By Maayan Jaffe-Hoffman September 7, 2017 , 1:30 pm
“A garden locked Is my own, my bride, A fountain locked, A sealed-up spring.” (Song of Songs 4:12)

image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/JERUSALEM_OLD_CITY__DOME_OF_THE_ROCK.jpg

Jerusalem is one of Israel’s seven holy cities. (Avraham Gracier/Wikipedia)
When Israel regains control of all of Israel’s seven cities and Torah can flow freely from within them, the Messiah will come, said Rabbi Yishai Fleisher.

He added that the world’s efforts to hurt Israel, including resolutions from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) ignoring the Jewish connection to the land of Israel, not only rewrite history, but rob the world of the Bible’s light.

One way to counteract it, Rabbi Fleisher told Breaking Israel News, is to recognize that Israel’s seven holy cities – Be’er Sheva, Hebron and Beit Lechem (Bethlehem) in the south, Beit-El, Shechem and Tzfat in the north; and Jerusalem in the center – form a menorah (candelabra) that together emanate God’s light to the rest of the world.

“Organizations like UNESCO are trying to undermine the Jewish narrative and put cataracts over these holy cities, putting a stop to the success, growth and light of Israel and replacing it with terrorism, fear and darkness,” Rabbi Fleisher said.

In a new course offered by Yeshiva for the Nations, “Israel’s Seven Holy Cities,” Rabbi Fleisher teaches about the special qualities of these cities in their Biblical and contemporary context.

He believes that today’s Jews are living in the Third Jewish Commonwealth on the cusp of the Messianic era. When Israel resumes total control of all seven cities, the words and teachings of the Bible will flow freely from them, undiminished and unimpeded, and the Messiah will come, he said.

“We are now living in a time of God’s great light,” said Rabbi Fleisher. “We see the menorah of the Land of Israel and we pray for peace in this Third Commonwealth and pine for the Third Temple.”

What makes these seven cities holy?

image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/YFTN-Study7HolyCities-600WIDE-2.jpg

Be’er Sheva
According to Rabbi Fleisher, when Abraham descended Mount Moriah he went down to his home in Be’er Sheva, where he set up an inn, welcomed travelers and convinced them of God’s kindness.

[Avraham] planted a tamarisk at Be’er Sheva, and invoked there the name of Hashem, the Everlasting God. Genesis 21:33

The Hebrew word be’er means well, which is a sign that Abraham made the city bloom with his Torah. Today, said Rabbi Fleisher, “Be’er Sheva is flourishing once again. There is a big renaissance happening in Be’er Sheva.”

image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Cave-of-the-Patriarchs.jpg

Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron. (Photo credit: hebron.com)
Hebron is the first place in Israel that the Jews purchased land in the form of the form of Cave of the Patriarchs, in Hebrew known as Maharat HaMachpela.

Avraham accepted Ephron’s terms [of 400 shekalim of silver]. … So, Ephron’s land in Machpelah, near Mamre—the field with its cave and all the trees anywhere within the confines of that field—passed to Avraham as his possession, in the presence of the Hittites, of all who entered the gate of his town. And then Avraham buried his wife Sara in the cave of the field of Machpelah, facing Mamre—now Chevron—in the land of Canaan. Genesis 23:15-19

Subsequently, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Rebecca and Leah were buried in the cave. According to Jewish tradition, Adam and Eve are also buried there.

“Kabbalistic tradition says that Abraham smelled the Garden of Eden,” said Rabbi Fleisher. “Hebron is considered the gateway to the Garden of Eden.”

Later, Hebron became the capital of the tribe of Judah.

Beit Lechem (Bethlehem)
Literally “House of Bread,” Beit Lechem is the city David is from and where he was crowned as the king of Israel, said Rabbi Fleisher. It is also where matriarch Rachel is buried.

Thus, Rachel died. She was buried on the road to Efrat—now Beit Lechem. Genesis 35:19

Jacob set up a pillar above her tomb, which is still there to this day. For 3,000 years, Jews have come to pray at Rachel’s gravesite, crying alongside their foremother, “wailing, bitter weeping— Rachel weeping for her children. She refuses to be comforted for her children, who are gone.” (Jeremiah 31:14)

Rabbi Fleisher said Rachel will only stop crying when the Jews return to Israel and the Messiah comes.

Literally meaning “House of God”, Beit-El is the site where Jacob fell asleep with his head on a rock and in his dream ascended to the Heavens, said Rabbi Fleisher.

He had a dream; a stairway was set on the ground and its top reached to the sky, and angels of Hashem were going up and down on it. And Hashem was standing beside him and He said, “I am Hashem, the God of your father Avraham and the God of Yitzchak: the ground on which you are lying I will assign to you and to your offspring.” Genesis 28:10-22

“Beit-El is the gateway to Heaven,” said Rabbi Fleisher.

Joseph’s Tomb on the outskirts of the city of Shechem. (Wikimedia Commons.)
The city of Shechem is mentioned several times in the Torah in reference to the Biblical forefathers. It is the first place in the land of Israel that Abraham entered and the site of the first altar to God. Jacob also spends time in Shechem, even purchasing

The parcel of land where he pitched his tent … from the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for a hundred kesitah. Genesis 33:19

However, according to Rabbi Fleisher, Shechem is most connected to Joseph, who is still buried there today.

“Joseph left Shechem to meet his brothers who sell him into slavery, really starting his exile,” said Rabbi Fleisher. “Then, his own great-grandson. Joshua, returns to Shechem when they enter the Land of Israel and buries Joseph’s bones – brought all the way from Egypt – on the same plot of land that Jacob bought for a hundred pieces of silver from the sons of Hamor so many years before.”

“Zionism starts in Tzfat,” said Rabbi Fleisher.

The famous Kabbalistic rabbi, Rabbi Yitzchak Luria (the Arizal), came to Tzfat in the 1500s and there he ushered in the Third Commonwealth, convincing Jews to return to the Land of Israel and to study the mystical Torah.

“When we left into exile, we kept a skeletal version of Judaism without prophecy and we had a lower level of intimacy with God in terms of Judaism,” explained Rabbi Fleisher. “With our return to the Land, to being back in our natural habitat, the Torah we started to seek is the Kabbalistic Torah with more depth than the kind of topical Torah kept in the diaspora.”

He said the Arizal signifies the renaissance we live in today.

Finally, Jerusalem is the gateway between Heaven and earth.

“The Bible tells us that all the candles on this land-menorah look to the middle candle, to Jerusalem which was sanctified by the binding of Isaac on Mount Moriah and by the idea that Abraham actually circumcised himself there on the Temple Mount and when the first drop of blood hit the Temple Mount the earth became sanctified and this is where God wanted the altar of the Temple to be,” said Rabbi Fleisher.

The First Temple was built in Jerusalem. The second Temple was built in Jerusalem.

“And we are now in the process of the Third Commonwealth and returning to our land and ultimately to that same spot to build our Third Temple,” said Rabbi Fleisher.

Everyone can play a role to usher in the Messiah and the End of Days, Rabbi Fleisher said.

“By studying this history and the Bible and then supporting the holy cities, you can counteract UNESCO’s cataract,” said Fleisher.

BEIRUT, Lebanon — Syria accused Israel on Thursday of conducting an overnight strike on a military base said by analysts to house chemical weapons and advanced missiles.

The Syrian military reported the attack, saying it had left two people dead near the town of Masyaf in western Syria and had caused unspecified material damage.

Israeli officials did not comment on the strike, but a Syrian monitoring group and a former Israeli official said it had targeted a research site that produced chemical weapons.

Israel has repeatedly hit targets in Syria during the country’s six-year civil war, most of them thought to be weapons convoys belonging to Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group that is one of Israel’s fiercest enemies.

The strike reported on Thursday came a day after a United Nations commission accused the Syrian government of using chemical weapons in an attack in April that killed dozens in the village of Khan Sheikhoun and flooded clinics with victims gasping for breath.

U.N. Panel Faults Syria’s Military for Chemical Attack SEPT. 6, 2017

The unequivocal condemnation from the United Nations undercut claims by Syria and its ally, Russia, that the Syrian government had not used banned munitions and that the attack had been perpetrated by rebels on the ground.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the conflict from Britain through contacts inside Syria, said that Thursday’s attack had hit a branch of the Scientific Studies and Research Center, a government agency that the United States has accused of producing chemical weapons. It also hit a storage building nearby where ground-to-ground missiles were kept, the group said.

As is common with strikes in Syria, Israeli officials declined to comment.

But Amos Yadlin, a retired Israeli general and the executive director of the Institute for National Security Studies at Tel Aviv University, wrote on Twitter that the attack had struck a factory that produced precision missiles, chemical weapons and barrel bombs, which are crude explosives dropped from helicopters.

If the attack was conducted by Israel, Mr. Yadlin wrote, it would show that Israel does not intend to allow the production of advanced arms by its enemies.

Previous Israeli strikes in Syria have not led to retaliation by Hezbollah or by the Syrian government, presumably because those two groups prefer to focus on winning the war in Syria without getting embroiled in a new conflict with Israel.

The Syrian government once had large stockpiles of chemical weapons, which it agreed to give up under a 2013 agreement between Russia and the United States. That deal was brokered after Syrian forces were accused of launching chemical attacks near Damascus that killed more than 1,000 people.

The agreement was hailed as a diplomatic success by the Obama administration, an achievement now tarred by continued reports of further chemical attacks, indicating that the Syrian government hid some of its chemical stocks.

The United Nations report released on Wednesday said the attack on Khan Sheikhoun, which led President Trump to order cruise missile strikes on a Syrian air base, was just one of at least 20 chemical weapons attacks carried out by Syrian government forces from March 2013 to March 2017.

More and More Christians Are Heeding “Sound From Sinai” in Powerful Call of Shofar [VIDEO]
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz September 6, 2017 , 10:30 am
“With trumpets and the blast of the horn raise a shout before Hashem, the King. Let the sea and all within it thunder, the world and its inhabitants;” Psalms 98:6-7 (The Israel Bible™)
image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Untitled-design-4.jpg
A man in a prayer shawl and wearing tefillin blows a shofar, or ram’s horn. (Breaking Israel News)
The ram’s horn has been the symbol of the Jewish New Year since Mount Sinai, but in recent years, the distinctive sound of the shofar has been growing stronger in Christianity as a call to prayer. Jews and Christians both look to the Bible as their connection to God, so it is no wonder that many Biblical aspects of Judaism are beginning to appear in Christianity, sometimes taking on a different appearance and bearing a distinctively Christian message.
This new role of the shofar in Christianity was most emphatically displayed ten years ago when over 70,000 people attended The Call, a Christian prayer gathering that took place in the Nashville Tennessee Titan’s Stadium on July 7th 2007 (07-07-07). The highlight of the event was a powerful use of the shofar. 300 men marched to the stage bearing long shofarot while African drums pounded out a rhythm. The subsequent mass sounding of the shofar, led by country musician Ricky Scaggs, was awe-inspiring, witnesses said. This part of the event, called Gideon’s Army, was inspired by a section in Judges.
Then Hashem said to Gidon, “I will deliver you and I will put Midian into your hands through the three hundred ‘lappers’; let the rest of the troops go home.”So [the lappers] took the provisions and horns that the other men had with them, and he sent the rest of the men of Yisrael back to their homes, retaining only the three hundred men. Judges 7:7-8

Hurricane Irma Upgraded to Category Five As Florida Prepares for Major Hit
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz September 5, 2017 , 1:30 pm
“He reduced the storm to a whisper; the waves were stilled.” Psalms 107:29 (The Israel Bible™)
image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/irma-1.jpg
Hurricane Irma was upgraded to Category Five, the highest possible designation, on September 5, 2017. (Twitter)
Hurricane Irma, now classified as a Category 5 storm, is expected to make landfall in the Northeast Caribbean Islands later on Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning, Hurricane Irma was still 270 miles out to sea, east of Antigua, but the National Hurricane Center (NHC) described it as “extremely dangerous”, upgrading it to the highest classification, the first hurricane to reach that intensity over the Atlantic Ocean since 2007.

“There is an increasing chance of seeing some impacts from Irma in the Florida Peninsula and the Florida Keys later this week and this weekend,” said the NHC advisory. “Otherwise, it is still too early to determine what direct impacts Irma might have on the continental United States.”

Sustained winds of 175 MPH were recorded and Irma is expected to dump 4 to 8 inches of rain on the mainland. Rainfall may cause life-threatening flash floods and mudslides. Some sources believe that Irma may prove to be more destructive than Hurricane Harvey, which devastated Texas eleven days ago. Harvey is now the costliest natural disaster in US history, leaving $190 billion of damage in its wake.

Florida’s Governor Rick Scott to declare a state of emergency in all 67 counties in his state.

“In Florida, we always prepare for the worst and hope for the best, and while the exact path of Irma is not absolutely known at this time, we cannot afford to not be prepared,” Scott said in a statement released late Monday afternoon. “This state of emergency allows our emergency management officials to act swiftly in the best interest of Floridians without the burden of bureaucracy or red tape.”

The director of the Puerto Rico’s power company predicted that storm damage could leave some areas without electricity for four to six months. But “some areas will have power (back) in less than a week,” Ricardo Ramos told radio station Notiuno 630 AM.

Hurricane Irma is part of a prophecy related to the solar eclipse that transversed the continental United States three weeks ago. One week before the solar eclipse, Breaking Israel News presented an article describing a prophecy in the Yalkut Moshe, written by Rabbi Moshe ben Yisrael Benyamin in Safed in 1894. Rabbi Benyamin predicted that when a solar eclipse occurs at the beginning of the Hebrew month of Elul, as this one did, “It is a bad sign for the other nations, bringing great damage to the kings of the East, and bringing great storms.”

When the eclipse’s path of totality passed out to sea over the Atlantic Ocean, it crossed over three storm systems. One of the systems touched by the dark path of the eclipse was the now infamous Hurricane Harvey, currently the second-most costly natural disaster in US history, and another was Hurricane Irma.

Arab Squatters Evicted From Jerusalem House Owned by Jews for 140 Years
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz September 5, 2017 , 12:30 pm
“Hashem appeared to Avram and said, ‘I will assign this land to your offspring.’ And he built a mizbayach there to Hashem who had appeared to him.” Genesis 12:7 (The Israel Bible™)

After a twelve-year court battle, Israeli police evicted a Palestinian family on Tuesday that had been squatting in a Jewish-owned house in East Jerusalem.

Left-wing demonstrators and Arabs attacked police with stones as they carried out the court order in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood. Yoni Yosef, the grandson of the late Chief Rabbi and Shas party spiritual leader Ovadia Yosef, was one of the Jews moving to occupy the house. He told Israel National News that he was undaunted by the opposition.

“We’ll take these blocks and use them to build even more homes in eastern Jerusalem and elsewhere across the Land of Israel,” Yosef said. “The Jewish people has returned to its land, despite the stones and knives. We’re here to stay, and we won’t be deterred by [Arab] harassment.”
The house and the surrounding neighborhood near the Tomb of Shimon HaTzadik (Simeon the Just) was originally purchased in 1876 by the committee of the Sephardic community and the Ashkenazi Assembly of Israel. In 1947, the invading Jordanian Army forced the Jews out of their homes. Under Jordanian rule, these properties moved under the jurisdiction of the Jordanian Custodian of Enemy Property and rent was collected.
When Israel re-conquered the territory in the 1967 Six Day War, the Arab families refused to vacate their illegally occupied residences. Under Israeli law, if Jews can prove their families lived in Jerusalem homes before the 1948 War of Independence, they can demand that Israel’s general custodian office release the property and return their ownership rights. Nonetheless, evicting the Arab squatters involved a lengthy and costly court battle that few Israelis were willing to endure.

Though many properties in Israel were legally owned by Jews since before the establishment of Israel, the legal process is prohibitive and the last eviction of this kind was eleven years ago.

Left-Wing Jews Protesting Christian Support for Israel Could Be Indirect Key to Redemption
By Eliana Rudee September 5, 2017 , 11:30 am
“When Hashem restores the fortunes of Tzion—we see it as in a dream— our mouths shall be filled with laughter, our tongues, with songs of joy. Then shall they say among the nations, ‘Hashem has done great things for them!’ Hashem will do great things for us and we shall rejoice.” Psalms 126:1 (The Israel Bible™)

The growing phenomenon of fringe anti-Zionist Jewish groups, evidenced by organizations such as IfNotNow and Jewish Voice for Peace which protest Christian support for Israel, is representative of the greatest challenge of the Jewish people in reaching geula (redemption) – the Jewish people themselves, say several prominent Jewish thinkers. According to Biblical tradition, the Jewish people will gather and unite on the shoulders of the gentiles, embodied in today’s Christian Zionist groups.

The Bay Area branch of IfNotNow, “a movement of young Jews calling for an end to American Jewish support for the Occupation”, recently called upon the Jewish community to protest and cancel a Christians United for Israel (CUFI) event on Sept 7 at Temple Emanu-El in San Francisco.

David Brog, Executive Director of CUFI, an American pro-Israel Christian grassroots movement representing the largest pro-Israel group in the United States, is set to speak about “Christian Zionists: Why Evangelicals Support Israel”. IfNotNow’s counter-event, entitled “Christian Zionists: Why We Deserve Better Allies” will take place outside of Temple Emanu-El.
In its petition on The Action Network, IfNotNow calls CUFI “anti-Semitic,” saying that in the wake of the crisis of Charlottesville, the event further “pushes our vulnerable community towards allies that exploit us for hatred, instead of joining our fight against it.”

"Vampire Zionists Drink Arab Blood", Says Palestinian 'Human Rights Activist' Honored by UN
By JNS September 5, 2017 , 10:30 am
“The impious man destroys his neighbor through speech, But through their knowledge the righteous are rescued.” Proverbs 11:9 (The Israel Bible™)

Palestinian demonstrators in Nabi Saleh hold Palestinian Authority flags during a protest against Jewish settlement expansion in August 2015. Nearly every Friday for the past seven-and-a-half years, “Palestinian supermom” Manal Tamimi and her colleagues in Nabi Saleh have marched to the nearby Jewish community of Halamish to demand its expulsion. (Flash90)
By: Rafael Medoff/JNS.org

The United Nations has crowned her a “human rights defender,” while Al Jazeera, the Qatar-based broadcaster, hails her as a “Palestinian supermom.” But Manal Tamimi’s links to violence and tweets accusing Jews of “drinking Palestinian blood” are prompting some of her backers to reconsider their support.

Tamimi, a 45-year-old mother of four, is a leader of the Popular Resistance Organizing Committee in the town of Nabi Saleh, near the Palestinian Authority (PA)-controlled city of Ramallah. Nearly every Friday for the past seven-and-a-half years, Tamimi and her colleagues have marched to the nearby Jewish community of Halamish to demand its expulsion. Halamish is the village where July 21, a Palestinian terrorist stabbed to death three members of the Salomon family at their Shabbat dinner table.

During the Friday protests, many of the marchers have hurled rocks at Israeli soldiers guarding the town, who have responded with tear gas or rubber bullets. Tamimi, her husband Bilal and their children have attracted international attention by posting videos of the soldiers on the internet. The Tamimis contend that the soldiers’ arrests of rock-throwers constitutes persecution of the residents of Nabi Saleh.
‘Vampire’ Zionists
Tamimi was included in a list of “human rights defenders” in a recent report by S. Michael Lynk, the U.N. special rapporteur on human rights in the disputed territories.

Pope Francis Reaffirms Landmark Nostra Aetate With Jewish Leaders
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz September 4, 2017 , 1:30 pm
“In that day, The stock of Yishai that has remained standing Shall become a standard to peoples— Nations shall seek his counsel And his abode shall be honored.” Isaiah 11:10 (The Israel Bible™)

Pope Francis met with Jewish leaders representing three major Orthodox groups in the Vatican on August 31 to discuss Jewish-Catholic relations. (Facebook/Dave Rosen)
On Thursday, Pope Francis met with a delegation of Jewish leaders at the Vatican to discuss the history and future of Jewish-Catholic relations, receiving their response to the Catholic Nostra Aetate, in which the rabbis declared the Christians to be “partners…in redeeming the world”.

The Jewish delegation presented the pope with a 9-page response to the Nostra Aetate, entitled “Between Jerusalem and Rome: Reflections on 50 Years of Nostra Aetate”.
The Nostra Aetate represented a step forward in Jewish-Christian reconciliation after a millennium of difficult relations. Released in 1965, the document declared that Catholicism distanced itself from replacement theology and withdrew blame from Jews for the death of Jesus, creating a space for Jewish-Catholic relations where there had been only enmity.

The response, signed by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, the Conference of European Rabbis and the Rabbinical Council of America, was welcomed by other Jewish groups as a large step towards improving Jewish-Catholic relations.

In their response, the rabbis acknowledged “that the emergence of Christianity in human history is neither an accident nor an error, but the willed divine outcome and gift to the nations. In separating Judaism and Christianity, God willed a separation between partners with significant theological differences, not a separation between enemies.”

They cited Rabbi Jacob Emden, who wrote, “Christians are congregations that work for the sake of heaven who are destined to endure, whose intent is for the sake of heaven and whose reward will not denied.”

The document concluded, “In imitating God, Jews and Christians must offer models of service, unconditional love and holiness. We are all created in God’s holy image, and Jews and Christians will remain dedicated to the Covenant by playing an active role together in redeeming the world.”
The response was signed by over 70 Orthodox rabbis. Rabbi Eugene Korn, academic director of the Center for Christian-Jewish Understanding & Cooperation (CJCUC) and one of the signators, welcomed the rabbinic initiative.

“Religious Jews and religious Christians today are blessed to live in a new era of fraternal relationship,” Rabbi Korn wrote in an official statement. “Jews and Christians today can approach each other, respecting each other’s religious commitments, without betraying their religious traditions.
“In a world filled with secularism, moral relativism and religious extremism, Jews and Christians today have more in common than what separates them. Neither community can realize God’s prophetic mission for His children by itself. Only together can we fulfill what God asks of us.”

The CJCUC posted the statement on their website in support.

“Any positive statement from Orthodox rabbinical bodies mainstreaming [interfaith] relations is much appreciated and encouraged,” David Nekrutman, CJCUC executive director, told Breaking Israel News. “Not everyone has to agree on the theological dialogue that we hold so sacred. This is an example of a great leap of courage by these rabbis that shows how Jewish Christian relations are so different than they were just half a century ago. We are living in miraculous times.”

Top Japanese Official Apologizes For Saying Hitler Had "Right Motives"
By JNI Media August 30, 2017 , 1:30 pm

The Simon Wiesenthal Center expressed “distress and disappointment” at a comment made on Tuesday by Japanese Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Taro Aso, as reported by the Kyodo news agency. Aso said, speaking to a fellow member of his Liberal Democratic Party, “I don’t question your motives, but the results are important. [Adolf] Hitler, who killed millions of people, was no good, even if his motives were right.”
Wiesenthal’s chief, Rabbi Abraham Cooper, said in response, “This is just the latest of a troubling list of ‘misstatements’ made by Japanese officials, which are downright dangerous.
“These words damage Japan’s reputation at the very time when all Americans want to show their solidarity with Japan, our sister democracy and ally, following the missile launch from Kim Jong Un’s North Korea,” Cooper noted.
On Wednesday, Aso retracted, stating: “It is clear from my overall remarks that I regard Hitler in extremely negative terms, and it’s clear that his motives were also wrong.” He explained that all he wanted to say was that results count, not intent. Aso also acknowledged, “It was inappropriate that I cited Hitler as an example and I would like to retract that.”

Hebron’s Jews No Longer Under PA in Move Proving Holy City’s Future Is Jewish
By Abra Forman August 30, 2017 , 12:30 pm
“And Avram moved his tent, and came to dwell at the terebinths of Mamre, which are in Chevron; and he built a mizbayach there to Hashem.” Genesis 13:18 (The Israel Bible™)

The small Jewish community in Hebron, comprising approximately 100 families, has been officially upgraded from its status as a neighborhood within the Palestinian Authority and will come under the municipal auspices of the state of Israel for the first time, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman announced on Tuesday.

A Hebron community leader told Breaking Israel News the move was intended as a message to the international community that the city, which has approximately 220,000 Palestinian residents and 1,000 Jewish ones, is on a clear trajectory towards becoming more Jewish in the future.
In practical terms, the status shift means that instead of relying on the Palestinian Authority (PA) to provide municipal services to the Jewish community – an obligation the PA undertook in the signing of the 1996 Hebron Accords, but did not fulfill – the community will be severed from the Hebron municipality and enabled to request government funds and services from Israel’s Civil Administration.

Yishai Fleischer (right) meets with Mac Thornberry (TX-R) and his wife Sally and U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-D) and his daughter in Hebron. (Facebook)
“This is another important step in normalizing the lives of the Jews in Hebron, in particular, and in all of Judea and Samaria, in general,” said Deputy Defense Minister Eli Dahan in explanation of the move.

“We’re the only Jewish community within the Palestinian Authority,” Yishai Fleischer, Hebron’s international spokesperson, told Breaking Israel News. “Because [the Arab municipality is] not upkeeping the roads or infrastructure, the place is a mess.

“Realizing this, the government of Israel accorded Hebron a status not just as a Jewish neighborhood within a Palestinian city but instead a full-on self-governing entity within Hebron.”

While he does not believe the announcement by Liberman was timed to coincide with the current visit of United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to the region, he nevertheless said that the move is a message to world powers who seek to deny the Jewish connection to Hebron.
“It sends a signal to the international community that Hebron will always remain Jewish and it’s trajectory is more Jewish and the UNESCO false narrative will not stand. We’re not going to fall for the UNESCO false narrative.”
image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/433-BIN-Subscribe-BiblicalProphecy-600WIDE-1.jpg
Last month, UNESCO, the UN’s cultural arm, passed a resolution which declared Hebron a “Palestinian World Heritage Site”, outraging Jewish and Israeli leadership.

“Is this not a Jewish site? Who’s buried there? Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Sarah, Rebecca and Leah. Our patriarchs and matriarchs!” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked in amazement at the time.

image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/oren-hebron.jpg

Liberman called UNESCO “a politically biased, disgraceful and anti-Semitic organization, which passes outrageous decisions.
“No resolution from this irrelevant organization can hurt our thousands of years-old historical right over the Cave of the Patriarchs, or our right over Israel,” he said.
Hebron, echoed Fleischer, is “the foundation stone of Jewish history.”

“If we were to uproot the deep roots, we would be uprooting the very fabric of our narrative and our story,” he said.

“This was a tomb site of the founders of our peoplehood, the founding fathers and mothers of the Jewish people and the first kingdom of Israel and the first purchase in the land of Israel. This is incontrovertible.”

With the open support of the Israeli government, Hebron’s Jewish population will “start to take shape and form as a more normative community,” Fleischer concluded.

Fleischer is part of a larger effort to bring Hebron into the mainstream by encouraging more high-profile people to visit the city. Last week, he met with a Congressional delegation, made up of five US members of Congress and one senator, on a tour of the ancient site and surrounding areas.
image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/congress.jpg

The lawmakers visited the Cave of Patriarchs, met IDF soldiers guarding the site, and spoke with local rabbis and community leaders.
Rep. Mac Thornberry (TX-R) told the Jerusalem Post during his visit that “some of the assumptions that we have all operated under for a long time – that there has to be a two-state solution, a Palestinian state on the West Bank – some of those assumptions are now being questioned.”

The Deed Belongs to Israel – Not Islam
By Earl Cox August 21, 2017 , 9:00 am
The Temple Mount is the focus of a greater battle than meets the eye. Most commentators agree that the struggle for sovereignty is a key factor in the dispute; and certainly, some Arab leaders exploit the religion card to keep the street agitated. But this ancient battle has multiple layers of truth, including the apocalyptic—the destiny of Israel and the nations surrounding her. Its center axis pivots not so much on conflicting religious systems, but on worship: Who is worshipped at the Temple Mount? Who is worshipped at Al-Aqsa Mosque? How does this spiritual side of life impact our world?

Why are the Temple Mount and Jerusalem dead center at the crosshairs of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict—and a flashpoint of global Muslim wrath? Though in Jerusalem, religious zeal seems to evoke more passion than politics does, a parallel conflict looms behind the tense stand-off between Israel, the Palestinians, Jordan, and others in the Muslim world.

Has anyone ever wondered why Islam’s third holiest place has become so hotly contested when Muslims have Mecca and Medina in their back pocket? Or why Ramallah is not considered as a possible capital of a future Palestinian state instead of Jerusalem, with its 3,000-plus years of Jewish history and holy temple? Why are so many nations lining up against Israel in the UN and across the globe? Why is anti-Semitism spinning out of control while ruthless tyrants elsewhere inflict human suffering without censure?

Knesset Members Can Ascend Temple Mount - for One Day, Says Netanyahu
By Abra Forman August 27, 2017 , 10:30 am
“Who may ascend the mountain of Hashem? Who may stand in His holy place?” Psalms 24:3 (The Israel Bible™)

For the first time in nearly two years, Knesset members will be allowed to ascend to the Temple Mount – but only for one day, Israeli media reported last week.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu originally instated the ban against lawmakers going to the controversial site in October of 2015, when Israel was caught in a wave of terror ostensibly motivated by Arab incitement over imagined Jewish control of the Temple Mount.

Originally, a “pilot” week of MK visits to the Mount was planned for the end of July, but it was cancelled in the aftermath of a terror attack near the Temple Mount which left two Israeli policemen dead.
This week, in light of “improved” security in the compound, said the Prime Minister’s Office last week, a one-day trial, held on Tuesday, will see both Arab and Jewish MKs permitted on the Temple Mount.

Hurricane Harvey Follows Disturbing Confluence of Natural Disasters, US Peace Talks
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz August 28, 2017 , 12:30 pm
“Hashem sat enthroned at the Flood; Hashem sits enthroned, king forever. May Hashem grant strength to His people; may Hashem bestow on His people wellbeing.” Psalms 29:10-11 (The Israel Bible™)
A satellite image of Hurricane Harvey making landfall in Texas. (Twitter/National Weather Service San Antonio)
Hurricane Harvey, described as the “worst disaster” in Texan history, fits into a troubling pattern of natural disasters striking America at times when the country’s leadership is attempting to push Israel into negotiating with its Palestinian neighbors for a peaceful two-state solution involving Israeli concessions.
The category four hurricane, called “unprecedented and “beyond anything experienced” by the US National Weather Service, made landfall Friday night, slamming the Corpus Christi region of Texas with 130 MPH winds and 13-foot storm surges. As of Sunday, at least 50 counties had been declared state disaster areas as a result of what FEMA labeled “the worst disaster” in Texan history. At least eight people were reported as having died as a result of the storm, dozens more were injured, and that number is expected to rise.
While “it is forbidden to attribute divine motivations to such disasters”, Rabbi Yosef Dayan, a former member of the nascent Sanhedrin, told Breaking Israel News, “an introspective process is clearly necessary.”
One overarching spiritual theme places the disaster in a peculiar context. The storm coincided with the Trump Administration’s Middle East negotiating team, led by Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt, visiting the region in yet another attempt to jump-start peace talks. The devastation of Hurricane Harvey thus follows in a long line of natural disasters that have accompanied the anti-Israel political process of negotiating with the Palestinians.

You Won’t Believe How You Are Already Fighting the War of Gog and Magog
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz August 23, 2017 , 11:30 am
“O mortal, turn your face toward Gog of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. Prophesy against him.” Ezekiel 38:2 (The Israel Bible™)
image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Untitled-design-5.jpg
A prominent rabbi recently gave a warning that the pre-Messianic War of Gog and Magog is already being fought through the encroaching reach of technology – and everyone on earth is a soldier on the battlefield as they sink deeper into a virtual world of screens.
Explaining that the prophesied pre-Messianic battle of Gog and Magog is an entirely spiritual battle on an unprecedented scale, Rabbi Shalom Arush, a prominent leader in the Hasidic movement in Israel, said in a recent interview that “technology and the mass of online abomination [is] spiritually murdering people and tearing them from Hashem (God).”
“The Evil Inclination has never been stronger in history,” he warned.
“Gog and Magog are the chatrooms, the texting, the screens and social media that render people zombies, unable to think, communicate or read.”
The prophesied War of Gog and Magog is normally understand as a military conflict fought between nations. However, there are many Torah scholars, including Rabbi Meir Kagan, one of the greatest Torah authorities of the twentieth century, who understand the prophecy of Gog and Magog as referring to a great spiritual battle fought not with guns and tanks, but within souls.

Blacklist of Hate Groups Lumps Christian NGOs With KKK and Neo-Nazis
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz August 23, 2017 , 6:06 pm
“Ah, Those who call evil good And good evil; Who present darkness as light And light as darkness; Who present bitter as sweet And sweet as bitter!” Isaiah 5:20 (The Israel Bible™)

A prominent civil-rights organization just published its annual list of hate groups, lumping right-wing and religious groups with neo-Nazis and the KKK. The list has caused damage to several non-profit charitable organizations and has been labeled as fraudulent by many, but is still used as the standard for judging an organization because it is the only list of its kind.
Last week, the Southern Poverty Law Center, a nonprofit legal advocacy organization specializing in civil rights and public interest litigation, published its annual list of hate groups. The list, allegedly an unbiased and objective compilation, contains 917 groups with “beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics”. The list and the group that produced it have come under fire from both liberals and conservatives.
The Washington Examiner immediately published an editorial by Emily Jashinsky, criticizing the list, claiming the SPLC’s claim to objectivity was “fraudulent”.
“The SPLC routinely lumps conservative advocacy groups in with legitimate hate organizations, putting proponents of traditional family values in the same category as neo-Nazis and the KKK.”
In fact, the list does contain several self-proclaimed neo-Nazi groups, like Aryan Nations and Blood & Honour. But the list also contains groups with an anti-abortion or anti-gay marriage agenda.
This biased and hodge-podge approach has attracted criticism even from left-wing sources. Liberal journalist Ken Silverstein wrote about the list in Harpers, calling the list a “fraud” while noting that the SPLC is “the wealthiest civil rights group in America”. Silverstein criticized the group for “a habit of casually labeling organizations as ‘hate groups’.”
“In doing so,” Silverstein wrote, “the SPLC shuts down debate, stifles free speech, and most of all, raises a pile of money, very little of which is used on behalf of poor people.”

Iran Can Restart Uranium Enrichment for Nuclear Bombs 'in Five Days'
By JNS August 23, 2017 , 7:30 am

Iran warned Tuesday that it is capable of resuming high-level uranium enrichment—up to 20 percent—within five days. This degree of enrichment can be used in a nuclear weapon.
“If we make a determination, at most in five days we can start 20-percent enrichment in Fordo (the site of an Iranian nuclear plant),” the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, Ali Akbar Salehi, told Iranian media.
Salehi’s comments follow a warning last week by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani that the Islamic Republic could abandon its 2015 nuclear agreement with world powers “within hours” if the U.S. follows through with imposing new sanctions on Iran. The nuclear deal stipulates that Iran must cap its uranium enrichment at 3.5 percent.
In early August, President Donald Trump signed new sanctions against Iran over its ballistic missile program and human rights violations. The sanctions were enacted amid Iran’s reported fueling of the recent Temple Mount crisis in Israel, as well as the Islamic Republic’s agreement to bolster relations with the Palestinian terror group Hamas.

Red-Dead Water Canal Fulfills Isaiah’s Prophecy of Streams in Desert
By Yehezkel Laing August 24, 2017 , 11:30 am

A new agreement between Israel, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority to create a pipeline of moving water from the Red Sea to the Dead Sea echoes the predictions of the prophet Isaiah that God would “open up streams on the bare hills” and turn “arid lands into springs of water.”
The $10 billion plan, approved last month, calls for a 220 kilometer (137 mile) pipeline to transfer water from the Red Sea, a seawater inlet lying between Africa and Asia, to the Dead Sea in Israel in order to bring large amounts of potable water to some of the world’s driest regions. Rabbi Pinchas Winston, an expert on Bible prophecy, immediately saw prophetic significance in the project.

US Government Preparing for “Black Sky” Doomsday Scenario

An exercise designed to prepare the US for a high-tech end-of-days scenario has just ended in preparation for a threat that is growing as America’s enemies focus on these attacks that could cripple America. Government efforts in this area are increasing and as one expert put it, “It is not a matter of ‘if, but a matter of ‘when’”.
On Wednesday, an invitation-only exercise called EarthEX 2017 was held by the Electric Infrastructure Security Council (EIS) Council to prepare for what experts are calling ‘Black Sky’. Black Sky events are any catastrophes, man-made or natural, that disrupt the normal functioning of society and its necessary infrastructures in multiple regions for extended periods of time. This can include extreme weather, mega earthquakes, cyber terrorism, and high altitude electromagnetic pulse (EMP).
An EMP is a powerful burst of electromagnetic energy capable of destroying susceptible electronic equipment over a wide area. In its first report eleven years ago, the Congressional EMP Commission warned that one EMP attack could kill up to 90 percent of America’s civilian population within one year through starvation, disease, and societal collapse.
All of these threats are described in prophecies describing the end-of days. Most notably, EMPs and nuclear wars may have been hinted at in the Bible.

New IAF Drone Is “Quantum Leap” in Tech Capabilities
By JNS August 24, 2017 , 1:30 pm
“When you take the field against your enemies, and see horses and chariots—forces larger than yours—have no fear of them, for Hashem your God, who brought you from the land of Egypt, is with you.” Deuteronomy 20:1 (The Israel Bible™)

Israel has successfully tested a new drone that will be incorporated into the Jewish state’s air force.
The Elbit Hermes 900 drone, called Kochav (meaning “star” in Hebrew), is an improved version of its predecessor, the Elbit Hermes 450.
The Kochav, which is nine meters (30 feet) long and has a wingspan of 16 meters (52 feet), can achieve a maximum speed of 200 kilometers per hours (124 miles per hour) and can fly for up to 30 hours at a time.
According to the Israeli Air Force (IAF), the goal of the development of the Kochav is to double Israeli drones’ capabilities in terms of load capacity, air time and distance traveled.
“This is a quantum leap in technological capabilities,” an IDF official said, Yedioth Ahronoth reported.
The unveiling of the new IAF drone comes as the Hezbollah and Hamas terror groups have also been incorporating drone technology into their arsenals. Hezbollah announced this week that it used a drone to carry out a strike against an Islamic State position along the Lebanese-Syrian border.

Billy Joel’s Anti-Nazi Encore
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz August 22, 2017 , 1:30 pm
“Come, let us sing joyously to Hashem, raise a shout for our rock and deliverer.” Psalms 95:1 (The Israel Bible™)

World famous musician Billy Joel performed his encore at Madison Square Garden in New York City prominently displaying a yellow star on his lapel. Joel reportedly wore the symbolic patch associated with the Holocaust to protest the rise of the Neo-Nazi movement in America. The issue has become contentious since a white supremacist ran his car into a crowd of anti-racist protesters ten days ago, killing one woman.

The musical show took on a decidedly political tone when Joel was joined by singer Patty Smyth in a duet of Smyth’s “Goodbye to You”. As they sang, photos of former members of President Trump’s staff including Steve Bannon, Sean Spicer, and Anthony Scaramucci were projected onto a screen behind them.

Reactions to Joel’s star-statement were mixed.

Eric Shultz tweeted, “He is a true hero.”

New Adam tweeted “What is Billy Joel protesting? A president with part Jewish kids? The fact that Muslim immigrants in the US tend to be anti-semitic? WHAT!?”

“My parents were both from Jewish families. I was not brought up Jewish in any religious way. My circumcision was as Jewish as they got. I used to go to a Roman Catholic church with my friends, and when I was 11, I got baptized in a Church of Christ in Hicksville. I’m a cultural Jew. I like the Lower East Side humor, the food. I think the Yiddish language is terrifically expressive. Does that make me a complete Jew or a partial Jew? I’m not really sure.”

Top Mossad Officials "Concerned" After White House Meeting on Syria Yields Few Results
By JNS August 22, 2017 , 7:30 am
“Trust in Hashem with all your heart, And do not rely on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5 (The Israel Bible™)

Israeli government officials have expressed “grave concern” after a high-level defense delegation from the Jewish state met with U.S. officials in Washington, D.C., last week and failed to secure commitments regarding the situation in Syria and Lebanon.

The delegation, headed by Mossad intelligence agency Director Yossi Cohen, reportedly met with U.S. National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, Deputy National Security Adviser Dina Powell, President Donald Trump’s international negotiations representative Jason Greenblatt and others.

Israeli intelligence officials said they presented the U.S. officials with “sensitive, credible and highly disturbing intelligence information” detailing Iran’s expanding military presence in Syria, including documents and photographs, Yedioth Ahronoth reported.

The U.S. officials, however, purportedly did not commit to preventing the spread of Iranian influence in Syria. Delegation members noted “a kind of embarrassment and lack of a clear position” among Trump administration officials regarding America’s commitments in Syria and the Middle East.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin Aug. 23 in the Russian resort town of Sochi to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East. The issue of Iran’s military presence in Syria is reportedly high on the agenda for the upcoming meeting.

Earthquake Hits Yellowstone During Solar Eclipse as NASA Seeks Supervolcano Solution

Earthquake Hits Yellowstone During Solar Eclipse as NASA Seeks Supervolcano Solution
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz August 22, 2017 , 12:30 pm
“Therefore shall heaven be shaken, And earth leap out of its place, At the fury of God of Hosts On the day of His burning wrath.” Isaiah 13:13 (The Israel Bible™)

In the wake of ongoing seismic disturbances at Yellowstone, NASA scientists have suggested a drastic solution that they admit may actually set off the globally threatening catastrophe they are trying to prevent. One rabbi, steeped in knowledge of the Bible, suggested the scientists take a good look at their methods and try a more spiritual approach.

As tens of thousands of people gathered in Yellowstone National Park Monday morning to witness the once-in-a-century solar eclipse, the area was hit by a 3.2 magnitude earthquake. This recent tremor, though not large, is part of an ongoing series of quakes that began June 12. Experts believed the unusually large swarm of earthquakes would gradually die down but by the beginning of August, over 1,400 minor tremors had been recorded at the site.

Jamie Farrell at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City told New Scientist, “This is a large swarm but it is not the largest swarm we’ve recorded in Yellowstone. Earthquake swarms are fairly common in Yellowstone.”

However, Monday’s tremor, following a 2.5 magnitude quake at 7:23 PM Sunday night, indicates that the earthshaking problem is unlikely to simply go away. Should the supervolcano erupt, the threat to the Earth, said NASA scientist Brian Wilcox, “is substantially greater than the asteroid or comet threat.”

As a result, scientists are investigating how to cool off the seismic hotspot in order to prevent a catastrophic super-eruption.

NASA announced this week that it is working on plans to drill six miles down into the volcanically active region and pump water into the magma at high pressures. The water would return to the surface at 662 degrees Fahrenheit, bringing some of the volcano’s heat with it. The project is massive, estimated to cost $3.46 billion, and admittedly risky.

“The most important thing with this is to do no harm,” Wilcox, a researcher NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology, told the BBC. “If you drill into the top of the magma chamber and try and cool it from there, this would be very risky. This could make the cap over the magma chamber more brittle and prone to fracture. And you might trigger the release of harmful volatile gases in the magma at the top of the chamber which would otherwise not be released.”

But the NASA scientists working on the project are convinced that Yellowstone poses enough of a threat that they are willing to risk setting off an eruption.

While the scientists tinker with the supervolcano, Rabbi Rami Levy, a well-known kabbalist from Jerusalem, was skeptical of their plan to save the world.

image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/433-BIN-Subscribe-BiblicalProphecy-600WIDE-1.jpg

“Science is wonderful, but it is wrong to think it does not have limits,” Rabbi Levy told Breaking Israel News. “So many times, scientists have said one thing and then the year after told us something that totally contradicts that.”

The rabbi explained that earthquakes are an inevitable and unavoidable part of the End of Days, quoting the prophet Jeremiah.

I looked at the earth, and it was formless and empty; and at the heavens, and their light was gone. I looked at the mountains, and they were quaking; all the hills were swaying. I looked, and there were no people; every bird in the sky had flown away… Jeremiah 4:23-28

Rabbi Levy stated that in many cases, science has portrayed itself as the savior while attempting to solve problems it had actually created. In the case of Yellowstone, the rabbi advised the scientists to delve into the prophetic writings of the Bible.

“This earthquake and volcanic eruption were explicitly described in the Bible,” Rabbi Levy said. “Now that scientists are finally realizing that it will happen, wouldn’t it be wise to look into the Bible for the solution?”

The answer, he said, is simple but unscientific: “Tshuva (repentance). According to Jewish tradition, it was created before the world so it can supercede nature.”

The Yellowstone caldera is only one of approximately 20 known supervolcanoes that threaten the Earth. The dangers from a large eruption are far greater than those posed to the immediate vicinity by magma and ash. An eruption at Yellowstone would spew abrasive ash into the atmosphere, covering fifteen states and preventing airplanes from flying over the central United States for several months.

The greatest threat from an eruption in the agricultural heartland of America would be from starvation. Prolonged volcanic winter could potentially prohibit the US and other countries from having enough food for the current population.

Some scientists insist the chances of a catastrophic eruption at the Yellowstone caldera is extremely unlikely, one in 730,000, but the NASA scientists disagree.

“Yellowstone explodes roughly every 600,000 years, and it is about 600,000 years since it last exploded, which should cause us to sit up and take notice,” Wilcox said.

Have Pro-Israel Right-Wingers Lost White House Ally With Ousting of Stephen Bannon?
By JNI Media August 20, 2017 , 10:30 am

“Arrogance yields nothing but strife; Wisdom belongs to those who seek advice.” Proverbs 13:10 (The Israel Bible™)

Former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon (Michael Vadon via Flickr)
In early May 2017, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach made headlines when he tweeted a picture of himself with President Donald Trump’s Chief Strategist Stephen K. Bannon in the latter’s office, in front of a whiteboard listing the top political priorities of the Trump White House. As Rabbi Boteach put it: “The picture — with the whiteboard of campaign promises and priorities in the background — seems to be the tweet heard around the world.”

“While I did not notice anything on the board behind us at the time,” he explained, “I must say that I am happy to see that repealing the catastrophic Iran nuclear agreement, and moving the American Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, remain important to the administration.”

“Many condemned me for the picture, and a steady stream of hate has been channeled, one again, in my direction,” Rabbi Boteach concluded, in a Breitbart op-ed titled Rabbi Shmuley: For Steve Bannon, Israel Is on the Whiteboard, “That will not deter me from standing up for friends of Israel and my people.”

Rabbi Boteach’s is one of several testimonies by right-wing Jewish leaders who have concluded that Steve Bannon is probably the most influential friend of Israel in the Trump White House, which should be a warning to Israel’s right. With Trump delegating Israeli issues to his three generals – Secretary of Defense James Mattis, National Security Advisor H. R. McMaster, and White House Chief of Staff John Kelly – as well as to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Special Middle East Envoy Jason Greenblatt, and son-in-law Jared Kushner, Steve Bannon’s grasp of Israel’s real needs will be missed.

Israeli Minister of Agriculture Uri Ariel (Habayit Hayehudi) sent Bannon a letter last November after he received his White House appointment amid horrified reactions from many establishment Jewish groups in the US. Ariel expressed his “support and thanks” for Bannon’s friendship with Israel and for “opening of a Jerusalem bureau in Israel while head of Breitbart in order to promote Israeli point of view in the media.”

image: https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/461-BIN-SubscribeUSIsraelRelations-600WIDE.jpg

Ariel added: “While we do not know each other personally, dear friends of mine including Rabbi Shmuley Boteach have shared with me your strong opposition to the Iran nuclear agreement, which threatens Israel’s survival, [and] your opposition to BDS.” He concluded that “there are many areas of disagreement between us,” but they share the belief that “Israel, as the Middle East’s only democracy, must always have the strongest international support.”

Jews on the left have welcomed Bannon’s firing. Anti-Defamation League (ADL) CEO Jonathan A. Greenblatt noted on Friday, “We are glad Steve Bannon will no longer advise the president. In November of 2016, when Bannon was first appointed, we called on the president to disassociate himself from someone who boasted about creating a platform on Breitbart for the alt-right, a loose-knit group of white nationalists and unabashed anti-Semites. Just this week, Bannon unconscionably praised President Trump’s response to the events in Charlottesville.”

However, in an article the ADL published last November entitled “Stephen Bannon: Five Things to Know” warning about the dangers of the man who made Trump president, the fifth thing was the ADL admission that “We are not aware of any anti-Semitic statements from Bannon.” They conceded that “in fact, Jewish employees of Breitbart have challenged the characterization of him and defended him from charges of anti-Semitism.”

Ha’aretz on Saturday recalled that during the Trump transition Israeli Ambassador Ron Dermer took great pains to stress that Israel was looking forward “to working with the Trump administration, with all of the members of the Trump administration, including Steve Bannon, and making the US-Israel alliance stronger than ever.”

Only Bannon was prepared to follow through on candidate Donald Trump’s vision of breaking away from traditional US notions about Israel and the “peace process” by supporting the moving of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Israel, a much-debated and anticipated campaign promise that Trump, influenced by his national security team, did not fulfill.
