The IDF shot and captured one of two Palestinian terrorists who committed a shooting attack at the Ofra Junction on Sunday, according to unconfirmed Palestinian reports cited by TPS.
The Palestinian assailants opened fire on a group of Israelis waiting at a bus stop, wounding seven.
One of the victims, 21-year-old Shira Ish-Ran, was in her 30th week of pregnancy. The unborn child was also injured and was removed immediately from Ish-Ran’s womb, but passed away Wednesday afternoon.

Netanyahu: Israel will deliver ‘unimaginable blows’ if Hezbollah attacks

The Israeli prime minister warned Hezbollah that Israel is “prepared from all sides” to confront the Iranian-backed terror group.
By Associated Press and World Israel News Staff
Commenting on the IDF operation to expose and destroy a series of cross-border attack tunnels built by Hezbollah, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a stern warning to the Lebanese terror group.
“If Hezbollah makes a big mistake and decides in any way to harm us or to resist the operation we are conducting, it will be dealt unimaginable blows,” said Netanyahu.
The prime minister added, “Hezbollah thought that it could dig unhindered. We knew, we planned, and it did not leak. We maintained secrecy; we planned carefully. We are carrying out exactly what we planned but we are ready for the unexpected. There is great firepower here. We are ready for it and are prepared for it from all sides.”
Netanyahu also vowed that the operation “will continue as long as necessary, until we completely deny Hezbollah the tunnels.”

Hezbollah threat to Western hemisphere as ‘dangerous’ as ISIS, top US official warns.
By The Algemeiner
A top US State Department official on Tuesday warned officials from 12 key nations in the Western Hemisphere that Hezbollah — Iran’s Lebanon-based Shi’a proxy terror group — is “just as dangerous and just as close” as ISIS, the Sunni Islamist organization responsible for mass atrocities in Iraq and Syria.
“Despite its name, [Lebanese Hezbollah] operates within many of our own borders and far from the Middle East,” Deputy Secretary of State John J. Sullivan told delegates to the Western Hemisphere Counterterrorism Ministerial in Washington, D.C.
Among the countries represented at Monday’s meeting was Argentina – on two occasions the target of savage Hezbollah terrorist attacks during the 1990s. “In 1994, Hezbollah killed 85 people and injured hundreds more in Buenos Aires when it attacked the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) just two years after it had attacked the Israeli embassy there,” Sullivan reminded the delegates.
While Hezbollah has not carried out attacks in Latin America on that scale since the AMIA atrocity, Sullivan asserted that “several of your governments are still confronted with Hezbollah plots on a regular basis.”
Said Sullivan: “Just this September, Brazil arrested a Hezbollah financier in the tri-border area near Paraguay and Argentina. In 2016, Paraguay arrested another Hezbollah operative smuggling out 39 kilos of cocaine, whom we in the United States are prosecuting in Miami.”
The U.S. was similarly vulnerable to Hezbollah-linked criminal activities and terrorism, Sullivan added.

Ramallah, unlike Jerusalem, will not see the U.S. plan for a permanent Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement until it is unveiled.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
The Palestinian Authority (PA) will not see the American peace plan before it’s presented to the world, Ma’ariv reported on Wednesday.
Ramallah, which broke off relations with the Trump administration after the U.S. Embassy was moved to Jerusalem in May, has reportedly offered to help in crafting the parameters of the agreement but was turned down. The report did not state when the offer was made.
This means that if and when the two sides return to the negotiating table, the Palestinian Authority will have the distinct disadvantage of not having been given any specific prior knowledge of its contents – versus the Israelis, whose input was requested.

“As long as I am the Prime Minister of Israel, not a single Jew will be uprooted from his home,” Netanyahu vowed at the dedication of a new interchange in Judea and Samaria.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
The only proper response to Palestinian terror is to build up Judea and Samaria, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday at the inauguration of the “Adam Interchange.
The new junction, located in the Binyamin region and built at a cost of over NIS 60 million ($16 million), will cut the congestion between Jerusalem and the Israeli communities in Judea.
Netanyahu noted “the depth of our enemies’ hatred of us, Jews and Israelis,” referring to the terrorist incident Monday in Samaria that injured seven people, including a pregnant woman who was seriously wounded and underwent an emergency C-section. The infant boy remains in critical condition.

By World Israel News Staff
Shira Ish-Ran, the 21-year-old pregnant woman seriously wounded in a drive-by shooting on Sunday evening, is recovering, doctors at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem said Tuesday morning.
Ish-Ran, together with six others, including her husband, were wounded while waiting at a hitchhiking stop near the town of Ofra in Samaria.
The drive-by was caught on camera as gunfire opened up from a passing white sedan, sending those waiting running for cover. Some hid behind a stone memorial for a man killed by terrorists at the same spot a year ago.
Ish-Ran and the other wounded were rushed to Shaare Zedek. She was one of the worst injured and initially listed in critical condition.

A Palestinian terrorist is dead and another was arrested in two separate terror incidents Tuesday morning that occurred almost simultaneously. Another attempted attack was foiled Monday evening.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
In two separate incidents within the same hour on Tuesday morning, Palestinian terrorists attempted ramming their vehicles into IDF soldiers in the Judea and Samaria region. One assailant was killed by Israeli security forces; the other was arrested. A third attack took place Monday evening.
In the first incident, Border Police officers fired at a Palestinian vehicle moving towards border guards in the village of Idhna, near Hebron. The guards were securing the safety of Civil Administration (CA) inspectors on a law enforcement mission. There were no casualties on the Israeli side, however, Palestinian media reported that the terrorist was killed.
According to the initial investigation, one of the assailants hit a CA car and then drove into a soldier, injuring him lightly. A border guard fired a warning shot into the air before aiming at the car, which kept moving. The driver, identified in Arab media as 27-year-old Omar Awwad, died of his wounds a short time later.
Meanwhile, another attempted ramming attack in the northern Jordan Valley occurred almost simultaneously while security forces were demolishing an illegal structure in the Palestinian village of Al-Jiftlik. A vehicle began accelerating towards the forces, who responded with fire. The driver was arrested.

Tablet Magazine reveals that two leaders of the Women’s March swapped anti-Semitic conspiracy theories when they first met.
By World Israel News Staff
A Dec. 10, Tablet Magazine story by Leah McSweeney and Jacob Siegel reveals that two leaders of the Women’s March swapped anti-Semitic conspiracy theories when they first met in November 2016.
“In the first hours of the first meeting for what would become the Women’s March … something happened that was so shameful to many of those who witnessed it, they chose to bury it like a family secret,” McSweeney and Siegel write.
Tamika Mallory and Carmen Perez, while getting to know one another, talked about the Jews’ “special collective responsibility as exploiters of black and brown people,” and that “Jews were proven to have been leaders of the American slave trade,” the Tablet authors write, citing a “close secondhand source.”

Australia’s Morrison government is expected to formally recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
By World Israel News Staff
Australia’s Morrison government is expected to formally recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital following a cabinet meeting Tuesday, according to The Australian news site.
Australia’s Conservatives website heralded the decision as “another great result for the Conservative Party which has been running a petition for recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital,” reported it was “unclear” if the government would only recognize the western part of Jerusalem or settle on a broader definition. .
A decision on moving Australia’s embassy from Tel Aviv may be delayed, however, the site reported.
“Sources confirmed that it was likely a consular office would be established in Jerusalem as a sign of support for Israel until the full embassy was relocated,” the Conservatives site said.
On October 15, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison revealed the possibility of moving the embassy in a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“I’m very thankful to him for this. We will continue to strengthen ties between Israel and Australia,” Netanyahu tweeted.

By Jack Gold, World Israel News
A Pakistani man stabbed his former university lecturer to death in Paris after the victim allegedly “insulted the Prophet Mohammed,” the Daily Mail reported Friday.
John Dowling of Ireland, 66, was stabbed 13 times last Wednesday outside the Leonardo de Vinci University in Paris, where he taught.
The assailant, identified only as Ali R., 37, confessed to the killing and told police he “held a personal grudge” against the teacher after failing his exams last year. Ali was indicted for murder.
CCTV footage shows Dowling chatting with Ali before the assailant pulled out a steak knife, purchased at a nearby market, and plunged it first into Dowling’s throat and then into his chest.
An eyewitness recounted how students overwhelmed Ali, while one of them tore off his shirt to try to staunch the bleeding, the Irish Times reported.
Catherine Denis, the prosecutor involved in the case, said Ali harbored an “obsessive resentment” against the university for expeling him in September 2017, the Mail reported.

Netanyahu said, “We will not rest until we find these murderous criminals and bring them to justice,” after a terror shooting wounded six.
By World Israel News Staff and TPS
In the wake of Sunday night’s terrorist attack at the Ofra Junction in Samaria, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said, “We will not rest until we find these murderous criminals and bring them to justice.”
He added that “everyone is praying for the recovery of a young mother who is fighting for her life, as well as her baby. “We also wish a speedy recovery for all the wounded,” he said.
Netanyahu referred to a 21-year-old woman, who was seriously injured in the attack. The medical team at Shaare Tzedek hospital in Jerusalem succeeded in delivering the baby.
Dr. Alon Schwartz, a senior surgeon at Shaare Tzedek, said that the woman, Shira Yael bat Liora, suffered from “gunshot wounds in the pelvic area and abdomen. The woman arrived in critical condition, she lost a lot of blood, received blood transfusions, was stabilized and was taken to the operating room for urgent emergency surgery. She underwent a caesarean section and then surgery to treat her injuries. The baby is in the NICU [neonatal intensive care unit] and is being evaluated.”

Hezbollah’s Radwan Unit was tasked with leading the assault on the Galilee.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
The exposure of Hezbollah’s tunneling efforts by Israel’s Operation Northern Shield has brought renewed attention on the “elite” Hezbollah force that would have let the attack through those tunnels.
The special forces Radwan unit is named after Al-Hajj Radwan, the nom de guerre of Hezbollah’s late infamous military chief Imad Mughniyeh, who was reportedly assassinated in a joint Israeli-US operation in Damascus in February 2008.
Hezbollah’s Radwan Unit is trained to execute raids and small unit tactics, including ambushes, assassinations, and operations that require deep infiltration.
The unit is secretive and is regarded as professional, able and tough, excelling in the art of clandestine operations, “the pride of Hezbollah leaders,” Arab media outlets say.
The unit has accumulated experience while operating in Syria and fighting alongside the army of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Its former commander, Hatem Hamadi, was killed in action in Syria in October 2016.

Justice Minister: Annex Samaria settlement in response to attackIsraeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked (Flash90)
Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked said normalizing the legal status of the Israeli town of Ofra should be one response to last night’s terror attack.
By World Israel News Staff
On Monday, Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to make the Israeli town of Ofra in Samaria officially part of Israel.
She made her remarks in response to a drive-by shooting that left six injured, including a pregnant woman at a hitchhiking station near the town on Sunday night.
“The terrorists’ goal is to kill us in order to break our spirit. In the face of [PA President Mahmoud Abbas’s] ‘price of terrorism,’ we must set a price of our own: Every terror attack will strengthen the settlement rather than weaken it, and every potential terrorist will know in advance that the settlement will be registered in his name,” Justice Minister Shaked said.
The town of Ofra, founded in 1975, was one of the first Jewish towns established in Judea and Samaria after Israel conquered the territory in the Six Day War in 1967. It includes 700 homes, of which 500 face legal issues, either having been built on private land or without proper permits, according to a defense ministry report.

IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Ronen Manelis accused the Lebanese government and Lebanese army of ignoring Hezbollah’s activity.
By World Israel News Staff
IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Ronen Manelis, lambasted the Lebanese leadership and the Lebanese army for closing their eyes to Hezbollah activity in the country, Israel’s Mako news site reports Monday. The IDF spokesman said Lebanon was in fact directly responsible for Hezbollah’s development to the north of Israel’s border.
Manelis’ remarks appeared in the London-based Arabic newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat.
“The continuation of this activity will lead to a deterioration in security and what will happen to Lebanon will be twice what happened in Dahieh in Beirut during the 2006 Lebanon War,” Manelis said, referring to the Shiite neighborhood in south Beirut which housed Hezbollah’s headquarters, destroyed by Israel in that war.
Manelis said that Israel is prepared to operate inside Lebanon and destroy whole areas, placing the responsibility not only on Hezbollah but also Lebanon’s leadership, its president, prime minister and chief of staff, according to Mako news. Manelis said they are shutting their eyes to the fact that Qasem Soleimani, leader of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, is sending order to Hezbollah from Tehran to act against Israel.
“Suleimani is sitting satisfied in Tehran, [Hezbollah’s Nassan] Nasrallah in Beirut and both are holding the Lebanese people hostage,” Manelis said, referring to the residents of southern Lebanon, where tunnels have been dug under their homes.

Israel sent a warning message to the Lebanese government demanding it act against the terrorist group Hezbollah.
By World Israel News Staff
Israel warned Lebanon that if Hezbollah doesn’t stop its efforts to produce precision missiles, Israel will strike the terrorist group’s targets within Lebanon, Israeli and American sources told The Wall Street Journal.
Israeli sources told the paper that they fear that precision technology Hezbollah is obtaining from Iran will turn their missiles into a far more deadly arsenal.
According to the Journal report yesterday, Israel requested from senior officials in the U.S. and France that they relay the message to the Lebanese government that Israel will take action against Hezbollah in their country if it doesn’t take steps to prevent the terrorist group from obtaining advanced precision-missile technology.
Although Hezbollah maintains an arsenal of between 120,000-130,000 missiles already, according to most estimates, they are not precision-guided. Should they obtain such technology, it would put Israeli nerve centers at risk.

Iran has doubled its missile tests to improve their range accuracy, Western intelligence believes.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
Reports by Western intelligence agencies indicate that the number of Iranian ballistic missile tests has more than doubled in 2018 and that Iran’s missiles can strike at parts of Europe, Germany’s Welt reported on Sunday.
The Welt based its report on documents from Western intelligence services, which say that Iran has significantly expanded its testing activities.
In doing so, Tehran is probably violating U.N. Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorsed the Iran nuclear agreement reached between Iran and the P5+1 powers (U.S., U.K., France, Russia, China, and Germany), and explicitly prohibits Iran from tests and other activity with ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons.
The intelligence reports cited by the Welt show that in 2018 alone Iran launched at least seven medium-range missiles for testing purposes. In addition, Iran fired at least five more short-range and cruise missiles against Islamic State (ISIS) targets in Syria, the use of which could also be in violation of the nuclear agreement.
In 2017, there were only four tests of medium-range missiles and only one test of a short-range missile.

The IDF has changed its medical recruitment guidelines to be more inclusive.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
The IDF will allow inductees who have recovered from cancer five years prior to their recruitment to enlist in combat units, and will begin to enlist HIV carries as well, Israel Hayom reported Sunday.
The number of potential of recruits for combat units following this change is about 100 per year.
Cancer survivors would receive a combat profile of 72 (the top profile is 97). The Army stressed that the 72 combat profile will not be automatic, but contingent on recruits’ recovery and medical examinations.
This change to the IDF’s profile book is the most significant since 2005 and will take effect next month. The revision comes after two years of intensive work in the IDF Medical Corps.

By World Israel News Staff
Israeli President Reuven Rivlin has announced he won’t be meeting with Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, who is scheduled to visit Israel this Tuesday and Wednesday, spotlighting disagreement among Israeli politicians as how to best handle far-right, pro-Israel European politicians.
Rivlin’s office cited the president’s “tight schedule” for not meeting with Salvini, who also holds the post of Italy’s interior minister. But in a CNN interview Rivlin said, “You can’t say- we admire the State of Israel and want ties with it, but we’re neo-fascists.”
“Neo-fascism is completely opposed to the spirit, the principles and the values that the State of Israel was founded upon,” he added.
In another CNN interview, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared to disagree with that sentiment, disputing the premise of a question about European leaders’ use of anti-Semitic imagery. “I don’t think they do,” Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu to Haifa: Nix appointment of Hamas-supporting deputy mayor

The prime minister called on the appointment of an Arab as deputy major of Haifa to be cancelled given his anti-Israel position.
By World Israel News Staff and TPS
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is the most prominent of a growing list of those calling for the cancellation of the appointment of Raja Zaatra as deputy major of Haifa.
On Sunday, Netanyahu said that he had asked newly elected Haifa Mayor Einat Kalisch-Rotem to nix the appointment of a deputy mayor “who supports Hezbollah and Hamas, organizations that declare their wish to destroy the State of Israel.”
Zaatra, a former spokesman for the Hadash Party, a radical left-wing coalition formed by Israel’s communist party and other groups, is set to take up the post in the second half of Kalisch-Rotem’s five year term as part of a coalition agreement in the mixed Jewish-Arab city.
Zaatra, the former Joint Arab List spokesman, has compared the Zionist movement to the Islamic State. At Bar-Ilan University in 2015, he said that the Islamic State had learned from the Zionist movement in 1948 “the rape, the looting, the murder.”

NYU Passes BDS divestment resolution targeting Israel

NYU students pass divestment resolution targeting Israel, but administration condemns boycott.
By Shiri Moshe, The Algemeiner
Students at New York University passed a resolution on Thursday endorsing the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel — a Palestinian-led movement that the school’s administration has repeatedly denounced.
In a secret ballot vote with 35 in favor, 14 against, and 14 abstentions, NYU’s Student Government Assembly adopted legislation calling on NYU to divest from Caterpillar, General Electric, and Lockheed Martin for their alleged involvement “in the violation of Palestinian human rights and human rights globally.”
NYU spokesperson John Beckman said the university would not abide by the measure, citing President Andrew Hamilton’s previous rejection of economic and academic boycotts of Israel.
“The University opposes this proposal,” Beckman said in a statement sent to The Algemeiner. “It is at odds with the Trustees’ well understood position that the endowment should not be used for making political statements.”

Analysis: French bias against Israel unchanged under Macron
 December 9, 2018

While Paris insists that it seeks Arab-Israeli peace, it indirectly finances terrorism and rewards anti-Israel propaganda.
By Daniel Krygier, World Israel News
If French President Emmanuel Macron wants to present himself as an honest broker in the Arab-Israeli conflict, he has a funny way of showing it.
The Abbas regime in Ramallah recently announced that it has received eight million euros from the French government. In total, France has contributed 16 million euros to PA’s general budget during 2018. Ramallah’s uses this budget to finance its “Pay for Slay” program that offers financial incentives to murder Jews in Israel.
PA pays salaries to terrorist prisoners and allowances to the families of dead terrorists who are glorified as “martyrs.” Despite extensive criticism, the PA allocated 1.237 billion shekels to the “Pay for Slay” program, corresponding to more than 7 percent of Ramallah’s entire 2018 budget. While many Western liberals insist that Mahmoud Abbas is a “moderate,” the PA leader has declared that paying salaries to terrorists is a top priority.
France’s unbalanced approach to the Arab-Israeli conflict is not only limited to indirectly enabling terrorism against the Jewish state. The French government just awarded the extreme left Jerusalem-based B’Tselem organization and its Ramallah-based partner al-Haq the French Republic 2018 Human Rights Award. While B’Tselem claims to be a human rights organization, the controversial foreign-funded group has a long history of one-sided and systematic slandering of Israel.
While demonizing Israel’s democracy, B’Tselem largely ignores and even whitewashes the despotic PA’s severe human rights violations and support of terrorism. On October 18, 2018, B’Tselem’s Executive Director Hagai El-Ad participated at a U.N. Security Council session. Sitting next to Ramallah’s U.N. envoy Riyad Mansour, the B’Tselem director blasted Israel and falsely equated Israeli policies in Judea and Samaria with the former racist Apartheid regime in South Africa.

IDF fires on suspected Hezbollah terrorists near border, warns Lebanon it will attack if terror group continues developing precision missiles.
By Benjamin Kerstein, The Algemeiner
In the first major flare-up since Operation Northern Shield began, the IDF fired on three suspected Hezbollah terrorists who approached the border with Lebanon.
The operation on the northern border has been ongoing since last Tuesday. It is intended to destroy cross-border attack tunnels dug by Hezbollah that Israel believes were intended to facilitate a full-scale attack on the Galilee region.
According to Israel’s Channel Two, the three suspected terrorists approached the border using the stormy weekend weather as cover. The IDF Spokesperson’s Office said IDF soldiers “shot toward the figures according to orders to open fire. The three escaped. The work continues as planned.”
Hebrew news site Walla quotes the official Lebanese news service as saying, “The soldiers of the Zionist enemy fired in the air after they were surprised by a routine patrol by the Lebanese army on Lebanese territory, because of the heavy fog.”

South African leaders have rolled out the red carpet for an official Hamas delegation during the past week, with a private visit to the Robben Island prison cell of Nelson Mandela, the late former South African president, along with the formal signing of a “Memorandum of Understanding” between the ruling African National Congress (ANC) and the Islamist organization.
Headed by veteran Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar, the delegation of politicians from the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) in Gaza included Nabil Abu-Ras, Muhammad Faraj al-Ghul, and Musheer al-Masri — all of them supporters of the Hamas-backed bloc in the Palestinian Parliament.
While on their visit, which commenced last Wednesday, the Hamas delegation was escorted to one of country’s most important centers for commemorating the Apartheid era: the prison cell on Robben Island where Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in prison, and from where he became a global symbol of opposition to South Africa’s ruling white minority.

By World Israel News Staff
Overnight Monday the Israeli Army launched an operation to destroy Hezbollah’s cross-border terror tunnels from Lebanon into Israel.
Operation “Northern Shield,” as it’s been called, is a major, multi-branch effort of the Israeli Defense Forces involving the Intelligence Branch, the Combat Engineering Corps and the Administration for the Development of Weapons and Infrastructure.
The Northern Command is leading the operation, headed by Maj.-General Yoel Strick.
“The digging of the cross-border attack tunnels, which the IDF discovered before they became operational and posed an imminent threat to the safety of Israeli civilians, constitutes a flagrant and severe violation of Israeli sovereignty,” the IDF said in a statement.

“Anyone who tries to harm the state of Israel will pay a heavy price,” Netanyahu warned Hezbollah on Tuesday as the Israel Defense Forces continued its large-scale operation to destroy the terror organization’s tunneling operations.
The IDF launched Operation Northern Shield early Tuesday morning to expose and destroy terror tunnels dug by Hezbollah from Lebanon into Israel. It’s operating at several points inside Israeli territory along its northern border with Lebanon, with several areas declared a closed military zone.
“We are proud of the IDF commanders and fighters for the complex operations and operational successes in the early stages of the operation,” Netanyahu tweeted. “We act with determination and responsibility in all sectors simultaneously. We will continue with other actions, overt and covert, in order to ensure Israel’s security.”

Operation Northern Shield, which began overnight Monday to eliminate Hezbollah’s terror tunnels, won wide support from across Israel’s political spectrum on Tuesday. Politicians of all stripes backed the military and expressed their hopes for a successful outcome, though not without some political swiping from the opposition.
“I hope in a short time we’ll think of this threat [of Hezbollah tunnels] as ‘the threat that was,'” said Opposition leader Tzipi Livni in an interview with Army Radio Tuesday, adding that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “is looking for a reason to put off the elections and can use this.”
Zionist Union MK Itzik Shmuli tweeted, “We all back the IDF in their mission to defend the northern residents. Regarding this, at the end of this action, it will be required to inspect house in connection with the manner every complaint was dealt with, sometimes with dismissal and even contempt, concerning noises of digging reported by the residents.”

The Vatican expressed concern over the status of Jerusalem on Monday as Pope Francis and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas held their first meeting since the United States stirred international anxiety by moving its embassy there.
The two embraced and kissed on the cheek as the pontiff welcomed Abbas to a library in the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace for a private, 20-minute meeting.
“Particular attention was reserved for the status of Jerusalem, underlining the importance of recognizing and preserving its identity and the universal value of the holy City for the three Abrahamic religions,” a Vatican statement said, referring to Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.
U.S. President Donald Trump outraged the Arab world last year when he reversed decades of policy by recognizing Jerusalem as Israel‘s capital and put Washington’s embassy there. It was opened in May.

In view of growing Middle Eastern turmoil, the time has come for Israel to review the efficacy of its traditional policy of deliberate nuclear ambiguity.
By Louis René Beres, the BESA Center
Given the upheavals cascading throughout the Middle East since 2011, Israel now faces a unique dilemma. Notwithstanding the logical underpinnings and coherence of its own unilateral foreign policies, whatever Jerusalem should decide to do or not do about the “big picture,” a vision that could include the advent of a nuclear Iran as a regional hegemon and heightened Shiite-Sunni infighting, this ever-volatile region could slip irretrievably into a still deeper level of chaos.
If Israel is to remain secure in such an environment, it will have to re-evaluate its policy of deliberate nuclear ambiguity.
To date, the “bomb-in-the-basement” policy has made good sense for Israel. Both friends and foes recognize that it possesses significant nuclear capabilities that are both survivable and capable of penetrating enemy defenses. Indeed, for adversaries not to acknowledge these capabilities would require a self-imposed intellectual deficit.
But what should Israel do about its nuclear posture going forward? How should this ambiguous stance be adapted to the convergent and inter-penetrating threats of still-impending Middle Eastern/North African revolutions, a nuclear Iran, and Israel’s more or less constant concern about negotiating agreements with state and sub-state (terrorist) organizations?

Hezbollah’s tunnels were part of a larger plan to invade the Galilee region in northern Israel.
By Yona Schnitzer/TPS
Hezbollah planned to launch a surprise tunnel invasion of the Galilee under the cover of heavy artillery fire, in an attempt to conquer and occupy it, the IDF said Tuesday afternoon, explaining that the objective of Operation Northern Shield is to prevent such an event.
“In 2012, Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah proclaimed that he has a plan to conquer the Galilee,” said Lt. Colonel Jonathan Conricus of the IDF Spokesperson’s unit, in a briefing on the northern border called after the IDF launched an operation in the early hours of Tuesday morning to expose and neutralize Hezbollah tunnels crossing into Israel.
“The plan was quite simple,” Conricus said. “Massive amounts of fire to be fired from Lebanon by Hezbollah towards the immediate area by the border, and an additional part of the plan, the ‘surprise factor,’ would be to have elite Hezbollah terrorists to come from Lebanon to infiltrate Israel and try to surprise Israeli troops and civilians.”

By World Israel News Staff
It turns out that the first Hezbollah tunnel the Israeli Army exposed yesterday had been dug right under the noses of UNIFIL, (The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) whose mandate is to monitor the cessation of hostilities and keep the area between the Blue Line and the Litani River free of hostile forces.
“The tunnel was dug from a civilian building that served as a civilian block factory up until 2014, only a few meters from a UNIFIL position and UNIFIL patrols, whose mission is to enforce Resolution 1701,” said IDF Spokesman Ronen Manelis.
Resolution 1701, unanimously approved by the U.N., was meant to resolve the Second Lebanon War in 2006. UNIFIL was tasked with ensuring its various provisions were fulfilled, including full respect for the Blue Line, the border between Israel and Lebanon.
“Our monitoring of this structure from 2014 showed that civilian activity in the building declined and military activity began to increase,” Manelis said. “We started to see unusual activity under the guise of civilians, vehicles and trucks transporting dirt from the building to a nearby area … in fact they were clearing the dirt from the tunnel construction. Hezbollah tried to hide this from us, from Lebanon civilians and from UNIFIL.”

Israel’s rising status in the Middle East has helped Dubai’s Jewish community step out of the shadows.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
A small community of Jews has opened Dubai’s first synagogue amid a tolerance campaign that has eased restrictions on minority religions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bloomberg reported.
While Jews have maintained connections with their Arab neighbors for centuries, the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948 generated a wave of anti-Semitism that led to the expulsion of the majority of the Jews from Arab lands.
Today, as the region’s economy grows, a small Jewish community in Dubai has founded that city’s first synagogue, after meeting for years in  various private homes to pray.
Dubai’s Jews rented a villa for prayer services and hospitality three years ago, and the synagogue’s “emergence from the shadows reflects warming relations between Israel and governments in the region,” Bloomberg noted. However, community members have asked visitors not to reveal its location or write about its activities, while some are even opposed to speaking openly about its existence.
On a typical Sabbath or Jewish holiday, a few dozen of the 150 or so members attend services. The congregation currently has no rabbi.

“I want us to see that segregation and how that has really harmed us being able to achieve real peace in that region,” Tlaib told The Intercept. “I don’t think [the American Israel Public Affairs Committee] provides a real, fair lens into this issue.”
“It’s one-sided,” Tlaib continued, “[They] have these lavish trips to Israel, but they don’t show the side that I know is real, which is what’s happening to my grandmother and what’s happening to my family there.”

Trump cited Israel as one of the main reasons the U.S. is in the Middle East.
By World Israel News Staff
President Donald Trump says that one of the reasons the U.S. is in the Middle East is to help Israel, in an interview with The Washington Post on Tuesday.
Responding to a question concerning U.S.-Saudi relations after the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Trump said, “It’s very important to have Saudi Arabia as an ally, if we’re going to stay in that part of the world. Now, are we going to stay in that part of the world? One reason to is Israel.”
Trump suggested that America’s presence in the Mideast may eventually boil down to standing by its ally. “Oil is becoming less and less of a reason because we’re producing more oil now than we’ve ever produced. So, you know, all of a sudden it gets to a point where you don’t have to stay there,” he said.

General Tamir Yadai, head of Israel’s Home Front Command, issued a frightening warning to Israel’s citizens at a conference in Ashkelon on Wednesday, according to Israel’s Mako website.
The days are past, Gen. Yadai said, when “we’ll be fighting in the North or in Gaza,” and folks will be “drinking coffee in Tel Aviv.”
“No one’s arguing that the threat on the Israeli home front in the coming war will be very challenging,” he said.

“In 2019, there exists a more complex and challenging threat to Israel, together with capabilities already known to us from the past,” he said. “There is another geo-strategic reality that presents us with other challenges and threats.”
Although Tel Aviv and Israel’s central region have been relatively untouched by Hamas rocket fire and incendiary bombs over the last eight months of hostilities, Hamas rocket capabilities have clearly improved since Israel’s last incursion into the Gaza Strip during Operation Protective Edge in July-August 2014.

The unusual became almost routine in the delivery room as three women had nine children in the space of 24 hours.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
The Sheba Medical Center’s delivery room in Tel Aviv was hopping Tuesday as three sets of triplets were born, one after another (after another), reported Israel Hayom on Wednesday.
The babies, who weighed between 32 ounces (900 grams) to 4 pounds (1.8 kilograms), were whisked immediately into the premature infants’ ward, with two who were in more serious condition put on ventilators in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Their mothers had held their own until weeks 30, 31 and 32 respectively.
Dr. Tzippi Strauss, head of the neonatal and preemie department at Sheba, told Israel Hayom that some of the women had been taken care of at Sheba’s department for high-risk pregnancies, “but we sure didn’t plan that all of them would give birth on the same day. It was a unique sight,” she said.
The fathers showed off their right wrists, which were wrapped in three armbands apiece – one for each child.
‘Miracle from heaven’
One of them, David, said, “I think that getting a gift like this is a miracle from heaven. It’s very exciting. It’s taking me time to absorb it, but I’m sure that we’ll manage with everything. I’d like to thank the whole staff, and God.”

Israel’s government is looking to find ways to make Airbnb regret its decision to single out Jewish apartment rentals for a boycott.
By World Israel News Staff
Israel isn’t taking Airbnb’s boycott lying down. On Monday, Nov. 19, the popular apartment rental site announced it would no longer list Jewish-owned apartments in Judea and Samaria after it succumbed to pressure from anti-Israel groups.
Gilad Erdan, minister of strategic affairs, set up an inter-departmental team to explore ways to respond to Airbnb’s decision. The team’s first fruits? Five letters sent to U.S. governors requesting that they sanction the apartment rental giant and speak out publicly against it.

‘Area E1′ – Israel’s destiny has rarely been more explicitly defined.
By Bill Mehlman, World Israel News
Geography in the Middle East is destiny.
Israel’s destiny has rarely been more explicitly defined than in its need to control and settle  the 4.6 mile corridor known as ‘Area E1.
It’s the land link between Jerusalem and Ma’ale Adumim with its 40,000 residents. It’s also the IDF’s only secure access to the strategic Jordan Valley.
The link is in jeopardy. First, by President Trump’s looming ‘deal of the century,’ and second, by Israel’s own failure to take action against festering issues that threaten its ability to develop E1.
These include the Bedouin outpost Khan al-Ahmar, which Israel’s High Court of Justice approved for demolition, but which Israel’s government has yet to remove, and now a second, unnamed Bedouin outpost only a few 100 feet from Khan al-Ahmar, which the government too appears impotent to handle.

The home of the terrorist who killed Ari Fuld will be demolished, the IDF said Tuesday.
By World Israel News Staff
The home of the terrorist who stabbed to death Ari Fuld in Gush Etzion on September 16 will be destroyed, the Israel Defense Forces said Tuesday.
“The IDF will continue to act with determination to prevent terror attacks and to deter terrorists,” the Army said in a statement. The IDF informed the terrorist’s family of its decision.
Khalil Yusef Ali Jabarin stabbed Fuld in the back near a supermarket at the Gush Etzion junction. Though mortally wounded, Fuld drew his pistol and shot the terrorist, wounding him and preventing a larger attack. The terrorist was then shot and killed by Israel forces.
Fuld was taken to Shaare Zedek hospital in Jerusalem where he was pronounced dead.
Fuld, who was an activist on behalf of Israel, was mourned by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said, “He was an advocate for Israel who fought to spread the truth about Israel. May his memory be a blessing.”
In October, Fuld’s widow, Miriam, sent a letter to the head of the IDF Central Command calling on him to demolish the home of the terrorist.

By World Israel News Staff
Hamas leaders are ready to return control of the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah, according to a Tuesday report from the Lebanon-based pro-Hezbollah Al-Mayadeen network.
Hamas leaders agree to transfer power to Fatah’s control in exchange for a promise that the Palestinian Authority  form a unity government with Hamas. Hamas insists the unity government must be formed within 45 days, according to Al-Mayadeen.
Hamas’s central demand, and the one which is likely to cause the PA to reject the offer, according to Israel Hayom, is that new elections be held within six months, including in Judea and Samaria.
Israel Hayom says the PA will probably not accept this condition for fear that elections will bring Hamas to power.

“The United States remains committed to sharing its vision for peace with Israel, the Palestinians and other regional and international stakeholders at the appropriate time,” U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman said Monday following reports that the publication of President Donald Trump’s “deal of the century” is to be postponed as a result of the political situation in Israel.
“Our timing, our strategy and our messaging is and will be entirely our own. We intend to release the President’s vision when the Administration concludes that we have maximized its potential for acceptance, execution and implementation,” Friedman continued.
On Thursday, the Palestinian news website Al-Quds reported that President Trump had decided to postpone the publication of the deal due to political crisis resulting from the withdrawal of Avigdor Liberman and his Israel Beiteinu party from the governing coalition
“[Prime Minister Binyamin] Netanyahu prefers that there not be any announcement of the plan, especially following the recent incidents in the Middle East and the political situation in Israel,” a source told Al-Quds.

Energy superpower? Israel signs deal to pipe gas to Europe
Israel has signed an agreement with Italy, Greece, and Cyprus to lay the longest gas pipeline in history.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
Following two years of negotiations, Israel has signed an agreement with Italy, Greece, and Cyprus to lay the longest gas pipeline in history, Israel’s Channel 2 reported Saturday night.
The pipeline will traverse a distance of 1,242 miles and lie at a depth of between 1.8-to-3 miles. It will provide gas to Europe from Israel’s offshore fields.
The EastMed Pipeline Project is projected to begin in a few months’ time, starting about 170 km off Cyprus’ southern coast and reaching Otranto, Italy via Crete and the Greek mainland.
Up to 20 billion cubic meters of gas is expected to flow to Europe annually, thereby diversifying its supply of this energy source, which is now heavily dependent on Russia.
In 2014 Moscow threatened to cut natural gas deliveries over a dispute with the Ukraine, and actually did stop the flow temporarily in 2009.
The pipeline could be more than a direct boost to Israel’s economy, Minister of National Infrastructure, Energy, and Water Resources Yuval Steinitz told Hadashot TV.

The Israeli-Jewish Congress and human rights leaders have also publicly opposed the company’s actions, the statement noted.
“Airbnb is not welcome in Beverly Hills as long as its policies are based on anti-Jewish double standards,” added Vice Mayor Jon Mirisch. “Jew hatred is a disease. We can try to inoculate others against this malady, but we also must protect ourselves against its effects.”

President Milos Zeman of the Czech Republic, who arrived with his wife Ivana Zemanova in Israel on Sunday for a three-day state visit, will formally open the “Czech House” in Jerusalem on Tuesday.
The “Czech House” is considered by Prague as a “first step” toward relocating the country’s embassy to Jerusalem.
“Although this institution will not have a diplomatic status, Zeman sees it as a precursor to the transfer of the Czech Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem,” a statement by the Czech parliament said.
The Czech president is a strong proponent of the relocation of his country’s embassy to Jerusalem.
In late April, Zeman announced a “three-stage” plan to relocate the country’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which included the reopening of its honorary consulate in Jerusalem the following month. The airline must apologize for “slandering” the passengers of the Friday flight that took off too late to land in Israel before the Sabbath, says prominent rabbi.

Rabbi Shalom Ber Sorotzkin, who heads a large religious education network in Israel and was on the infamous flight two Fridays ago that was diverted to Athens because it could not make it to Israel before the Sabbath, has sent a letter to El Al CEO Gonen Ussishkin threatening to call for a boycott of the airline unless a public apology is made by Sunday.
In explaining the decision to divert the aircraft, El Al alleged that ultra-Orthodox passengers had “exercised heavy and violent pressure against the cabin crew” when told the flight would not make it to Israel in time. This was the reason for the landing in Greece, which would prevent them from being forced to break the Sabbath, El Al claimed.

For the second time this month, Israel arrested Jerusalem’s Palestinian ‘governor’ suspected of involvement in the abduction of an Arab who facilitated the sale of land to Jews.

Israeli forces on Sunday morning arrested Adnan Jit, considered by the Palestinians as the governor of Jerusalem, at his home in the city’s neighborhood of Silwan.
Jit was arrested in connection with the kidnapping of an Arab who was charged with helping to sell an Arab-owned house to Jews, a capital offense in the Palestinian Authority (PA).
This is the second time in a month’s time that Jit has been arrested by Israel forces. He was arrested on October 25 and released after a week of house arrest.
The police suspect that Jit’s office, which is funded by the PA, transfers funds to Palestinians in Jerusalem who carry out various investigative activities aimed at thwarting land deals between Palestinians and Jews.
Security sources told Israel Hayom that Jit, who was recently appointed to his position, was identified as one of the leaders of Fatah’s Tanzim military arm and is behind several incidents of violence in the capital.

Continuing Iranian leaders’ decades-long practice of of condemning Israel and threatening to destroy it, Iran’s current President Hassan Rouhani, called ‘moderate’ by some, issued similar threats to the Jewish state.
By Associated Press and World Israel News Staff
Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday called Israel a “cancerous tumor” established by Western countries to advance their interests in the Middle East.
Addressing an annual Islamic Unity Conference on Saturday, Rouhani said “one of the ominous results of World War II was the formation of a cancerous tumor in the region.” He went on to refer to Israel as a “fake regime” set up by Western countries.
Iran supports terror groups like Hezbollah and Hamas that are pledged to Israel’s destruction, in addition to positioning Iranian troops in Syria close to Israel’s border.
Israel consistently condemns Iran as an existential threat to the Jewish state.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, condemned Rouhani’s remarks on Saturday evening, stating, “Israel knows very well how to defend itself from the murderous Iranian regime. Rouhani’s slander, which calls for the destruction of Israel, proves yet again why the nations of the world need to join in the sanctions against the Iranian terrorist regime which threatens them.”

Hamas was shocked by its recent discovery of an ‘Israeli base’ operating in the middle of territory it ostensibly controls.
By The Algemeiner
Hamas has been stunned by the revelation that the IDF essentially operated an “Israeli base” in the heart of the Gaza Strip, exposed by a botched intelligence-gathering operation earlier this month.
The operation resulted in a firefight in which seven people were killed, including a Hamas leader and an Israeli commander. The incident led to massive Hamas rocket fire on Israel’s south, and nearly sparked a war before both sides accepted a ceasefire.
According to Israel’s Channel Two, Hamas’ investigation into the incident revealed that the IDF unit entered Gaza either through the Erez Crossing with Israel or the Rafah Crossing with Egypt. Those crossings at both sites are required to present official identification.

Betrayal and humiliation: Hamas leaders wage war on each otherHamas leader Yahya Sinwar. (AP/Adel Hana)
Discord between Hamas’ political leader Ismail Haniyeh and military commander Yahya Sinwar has reached “unprecedented” levels Gaza sources say, adding that the two no longer speak.
By Daniel Siryoti, Israel Hayom via JNS.org
Hamas’ political leader Ismail Haniyeh and the group’s military ‎leader Yahya Sinwar have been repeatedly locking horns over the ‎terrorist group’s policies in the Gaza Strip, and the rivalry has gotten to the point where the two no longer speak to each ‎other, Israel Hayom learned Wednesday.‎
According to Gaza sources, the growing animosity between the two ‎has caused a rift in Hamas, pitting Haniyeh’s supporters against Sinwar’s supporters in a devastating split.
Haniyeh’s camp includes ‎top political officials in the group and Sinwar’s camp hails from Hamas’ military wing, the Izzedine al-Qassam Brigades, led by ‎Hamas strongman Mohammed Deif. ‎
A senior Hamas official described the rift in Hamas’ leadership as ‎‎”unprecedented,” saying it has undermined the Egyptian-led ‎efforts to strike an agreement between Hamas and Israel that ‎would allow for the economic rehabilitation of Gaza.‎
‎”Sinwar, who was released [from Israeli prison] as part of the ‎‎[2011] Schalit deal, is very committed to the issue of Palestinian ‎prisoners,” the official added. “He promised the prisoners still in jail that he will do ‎everything in his power to secure their release, and he is following through on that. ‎Haniyeh is less interested in the prisoners and has refused ‎various offers for a prisoner exchange deal with Israel.”

The IRGC paramilitary force is in charge of the country’s missile program.
Hajizadeh said that all U.S. military bases in the region are within the range of Iran’s missiles, specifically naming the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar and the Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), situated some 300 kilometers away from Iran, and the Kandahar base in Afghanistan, which is only kilometers away from Iran.
The U.S. has several large bases in Arab countries in the region, including the forward headquarters of the US military’s Central Command in Qatar, American bases in the UAE and the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet in Bahrain.

FBI reports Anti-Semitic crimes increased by 37 percent in 2017. Islamophobic incidents dropped by 11 percent.
By Joseph Wolkin, World Israel News
According to data released by the FBI on Tuesday, anti-Semitic incidents increased by 37 percent last year, totalling 938 reports of anti-Jewish crime, excluding non-reported events.
The data revealed also showed a drop in Islamophobic crimes by 11 percent in 2017. There were 273 such incidents throughout the year.
Overall, hate crimes were up by 17 percent in 2017, marking the third straight year the FBI reported an increase in such cases.
The FBI said the spike is partially due to more police departments sharing hate crime information with the organization.
“[The report] provides further evidence that more must be done to address the divisive climate of hate in America,” Jonathan A. Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, said. “That begins with leaders from all walks of life and from all sectors of society forcefully condemning anti-Semitism, bigotry, and hate whenever it occurs.”

UNESCO launches Holocaust education websiteJewish child Holocaust survivors in Auschwitz upon liberation. (Wikipedia)
With help from the World Jewish Congress, the United Nations agency launched a website to disseminate information about the Holocaust.
By Joseph Wolkin
UNESCO presented its new aboutholocaust.org Monday at the United Nations agency’s Paris headquarters. UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay and WJC President Ronald Lauder launched the site at the event, with a press release explaining the project represents “a response to increased hate and disinformation online.”
“The WJC has partnered with UNESCO in this critical Holocaust education project to pass the baton on to the young people of today, the future leaders of tomorrow,” Lauder said. “It is our duty to ensure that the six million Jews killed just for being Jewish will be remembered by all, and that the circumstances of their deaths will constantly remind us what can happen when we let hatred prevail.”
There are several sections on the site, including a “Testimonies” tab, which includes video footage from survivors discussing how they made it out of the Holocaust alive.
“The website launch comes in the wake of the high-level event on preventing anti-Semitism through education, organized by UNESCO in the presence of the UN Secretary-General, during the United Nations General Assembly in New York last September,” the UNESCO press release stated.
Anti-Semitism Guidelines
UNESCO’s newest webpage arrives five months after the UN’s move to publish educational guidelines on combating anti-Semitism.

Knesset Speaker squashes conference about ridding Hebron of Jews
 November 22, 2018
Knesset Speaker squashes conference about ridding Hebron of JewsIsraeli Arab and Jewish left-wing Knesset members will hold a conference at Israel's parliament focused on expelling Hebron of its Jews . (Flash 90)
“This is a type of ‘final solution’ — to evict our ethnic minority from the cradle of Jewish civilization in order to appease the jihad,” Hebron’s Jewish community spokesperson stated.
By JNS.org and World Israel News
Kesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein put the kibosh on a planned conference at the Knesset that would have called for the immediate expulsion of Jews from the ancient city of Hebron. The conference was organized by Arab MKs and their radical, left-wing Jewish colleagues in Israel’s parliament.
Conference organizers attempted to sidestep Knesset regulations that require conferences to be approved by the Knesset Speaker by defining the event as a “gathering.”
“Time after time, certain MKs try to act behind my back and that of the professional staff of the Knesset for cheap political gain. Lies are destined to be revealed,” Edelstein said.
Arab Joint List MKs Ayman Odeh and Dov Khenin, as well as Meretz MK Michal Rozin, had issued a statement before the cancellation, saying:
“The settlement in Hebron is the expression of an extremist government policy that pours mass sums of money and endangers human lives to strengthen and maintain a handful of extremist settlers

Rarest, most expensive ‘Palestine’ banknote in history up for auction

Got a lot of loose change? Here’s what you can do with it…
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
The rarest and most expensive banknote that has ever been put up for sale in Israel – a 1929 British Mandate 50 Palestine Pound note – will be auctioned by the King David Auctions House on Thursday.
Professional catalogs of banknotes and coins have declined to determine its price due to its rareness.
Experts estimate that during the years the banknote was valid, one could buy land in the most expensive areas in Israel.
Enclosed with it are the original certificates of the late collector Avraham Birenbaum.
Its condition is described as “very fine” with “insignificant folds, small pin holes, thick, healthy paper.”

There isn’t enough public support for an operation that could end Hamas terror completely. Thus the choice is between two short-term fixes, both of them bad.
By Evelyn Gordon, JNS.org
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is being assailed by his own base for his restraint last week following Hamas’s massive bombardment of southern Israel. But in considering what Israel’s policy should be, it’s important to realize that for now, the option of permanently ending Hamas terror doesn’t exist — not because it’s beyond Israel’s capability, but because it lacks sufficient public support.
If someone came up with an idea for destroying Hamas that could be executed quickly and with minimal casualties, Israelis obviously would support that, but nobody has. Thus the only plan with proven capability to suppress terror over the long term remains the one Israel executed in the West Bank in 2002 in response to the second intifada: The army goes in, and it never leaves. That’s how Israel defeated the second intifada, and how it has kept West Bank terror within tolerable limits ever since.

Report: US counterterrorism strategy fails to address Islamic threat

Report: US counterterrorism strategy fails to address Islamic threatISIS terrorists. (Screenshot)

The current US counterterrorism strategy is shortsighted and narrow and must adapt to an evolving global Jihadi threat, a new report says.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
The American counterterrorism strategy in fighting the Islamic State (ISIS) and other Muslim terror groups risks becoming irrelevant to the new and evolving threat posed by the global Jihadi movement, a new report warns.
The American Enterprise Institute, which authored the report, said that the strategy “misconceptualizes the enemy as a set of discrete groups and individuals to defeat and kill,” which has been US policy since the onset of the war on Islamic terrorism. It “wrongly emphasizes a kinetic approach,” meaning assassinations of individuals, as a means to addressing threats these groups pose to American interests, the report said, adding that a broader approach is required.
The report further charges that current US policy “underestimates the importance of the Salafi-jihadi movement that persists beyond the defeat of specific threat groups” and does not account the terror groups’ “reprioritization of its efforts” and its ability to regroup and morph at different places across the globe, despite losing battles in other areas.

In his letter of resignation to British Prime Minister Theresa May, the former vice chairman of the Conservative party stressed that the government’s treatment of Asia Bibi was one of the reasons for his departure.
By AP and World Israel News Staff
Three weeks after Pakistan’s Supreme Court acquitted her of blasphemy, a Christian woman who had been on death row for eight years was freed from detention, but her whereabouts are a closely guarded secret following demands by Muslim extremists that she be hanged in public.
The case of Asia Bibi has become a political minefield for Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan. He has been trying to placate the Muslim fanatics who have threatened to topple his government while keeping the 54-year-old mother of five safe from a lynch mob and searching for a way to allow her to leave Pakistan without bringing rioters into the streets.
“Adnan Khan, chairman of the U.S-based Council of Pakistan, insisted that – contrary to reports – the Pakistan government has indeed ‘come down very hard on all protesters and the Islamist parties’ and resolved that no new charges would be brought against Bibi,” according to Fox News.

According to a report which took into account 55 different factors, Israel’s Power Index puts it in a high place out of 136 nations.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
Israel’s army placed 16th in the world in 2018 by website Global Firepower, which just published its annual firepower index ranking the militaries of 136 countries. Though a drop of one spot from 2017, it’s not considered significant by the site.
The site’s algorithms looked at 55 factors, including such “bonuses” as belonging to NATO, (as these countries ostensibly have back-up on hand from allies) proven or suspected possession of nuclear weapons, financial health, transportation systems, industrial development and natural resources, and their global status – First, Second, or Third World.
The site acknowledged that some values processed by their in-house formula were estimated when official numbers were not available.
Out of the fifteen countries that topped Israel, Turkey (9) and Iran (13) are the only ones that are actively hostile to the Jewish state and close enough geographically to do anything about it, although of the two only the Islamic Republic is considered a strategic threat.

An Israeli judge sentenced the JCC bomb hoaxer to 10 years in prison for making thousands of bomb threats to Jewish communities.
By World Israel News Staff
“The hacker from Ashkelon,” as he’s dubbed in Israel, better known in the states as the boy behind the JCC bomb threats, received a 10 year sentence from the Tel Aviv District Court on Thursday and was fined 60,000 shekels ($16,000).
The defendant, M., (19) whose name was withheld, was charged with an astonishing slew of crimes for someone who was still a minor when he carried them out, including making thousands of bomb threats, extortion, threatening to kidnap children, and most famously threatening to blow up Jewish Community Centers in the U.S.
The real-world results of his threats, which The Times of Israel sums up nicely “caused fighter jets to scramble, planes to dump fuel and make emergency landings, schools to evacuate, and numerous other chaotic consequences.”
Remarkably, M. continued to make bomb threats from prison, leading to the evacuation of two elementary schools in Israel and a hotel in Eilat.
When the judge read the ruling, M’s father cried out, “He’s ill!” referring to the fact that M has been diagnosed with autism and a brain tumor. The judge said, “If not for his situation, I would have handed down a 17 year imprisonment.”

Israel’s Justice Minister admitted the Jewish Home Party shouldn’t have issued an ultimatum to Prime Minister Netanyahu.
By World Israel News
Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked admitted that the decision of the Jewish Home Party to issue an ultimatum to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week was a mistake, in an interview Thursday with Ynet news.
“We considered resigning, but in the end we decided to forgo our honor and continue. We lost this round,” she told Ynet, suggesting that an ultimatum wouldn’t have been their first preference but, “From our history with Netanyahu, we see that unfortunately, only through such means can we achieve our goals.”
“It’s possible we shouldn’t have given him a public ultimatum, we may have made mistakes, but we only learn; there are political rounds that we lose,” she said.

Despite Jonathan Pollard’s 30 years in prison and three years of parole, the U.S. is still not granting him his full freedom.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
The U.S. Justice Department has refused Israel’s request to allow former spy Jonathan Pollard to make Aliyah (immigrate to the Jewish state), Israel’s Hadashot news reported Thursday.
After serving 30 years in a US prison for his espionage activity for Israel, an ally, Pollard, a former US Navy analyst, was finally released in 2015.
Under the terms of his parole, Pollard must remain in the U.S. for the next five years unless he receives permission from the president to leave. Pollard was granted Israeli citizenship in 1995.
While Pollard is no longer incarcerated, he continues to face many limitations. He remains under modified house arrest and could be jailed for any technical infraction. His internet use is limited and monitored, and the worst restriction is likely the ban on his flying to Israel. He has repeatedly expressed a desire to move to Israel.
A year ago, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu requested Pollard’s release from President Donald Trump.

Zionism achieves its goals through the use of “money, politics, womankind, drugs and the media,” a Saudi textbook says.
By Joseph Wolkin, World Israel News
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) published a new report on Tuesday revealing Saudi Arabia’s use of hate speech in textbooks. The books preach not only anti-Semitism, but also vitriol against Christians, women and homosexual men.
The government-published textbooks are exposed in the ADL report, titled, “Teaching Hate and Violence: Problematic Passages from Saudi State Textbooks for the 2018–19 School Year.”
The ADL translated the textbooks from Arabic, exposing dozens of passages “that clearly propagate incitement to hatred or violence” against the aforementioned groups.
Twelve years ago, the United States issued a waiver from penalties to the Saudi government under the International Religious Freedom Act due to the Saudi ruler’s stated commitment to change the textbooks in an attempt to erase incitement.
But the pledge to filter out such speech in the textbooks remains unfulfilled.

IDF General to Gaza Belt students: ‘I can’t promise you quiet’Brig. General Eliezer Toledano (IAF)
“I can’t promise you quiet,” the IDF general told high school students during a frank talk in the Gaza Belt.
By World Israel News Staff
“I can’t promise you quiet,” IDF Brig. General Eliezer Toledano, the commander of the Gaza Division, whose area of responsibility includes the Gaza Strip, told high school students in the Sha’ar Hanegev region in the Gaza Belt on Wednesday, Ynet news reports.
“We need patience,” Toledano said.
“The last round wasn’t easy,” he noted, referring to the 500 rockets that were fired at Israel last week, “but your defense is our top priority. Good lads are doing this all along the border and also across the border.”
The students Toledano met with were organizers of the protest march two weeks ago that went from the Gaza Belt to the Knesset where they were joined by 1,000s of other students from around the country.
The students were protesting living under constant threat of bombardment by rockets, and other aerials forms of terror from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip. Their message was: ‘We just want to grow up in peace and quiet.’
“We want it so you can grow up in quiet,” Toledano told the students, “And we’re doing everything in our power so the enemy won’t challenge us.”
“Our biggest problem is that Hamas places our citizens in the game while we’re careful not to hurt their citizens,” he said, according to Ynet.

Despite increasing anti-Semitism, European Jews, who feel safer in the eastern than the western part of the continent, have no plans to emigrate anytime soon, according to a survey taken for the fourth time by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee’s International Center for Community Development, which closely analyzes European Jewry.
According to the survey, 76 percent of respondents said they have not made plans in the past five years to emigrate due to anti-Jewish vitriol, while just 19 percent said otherwise.
At the same time, 63 percent of respondents said they felt “rather safe,” 20 percent “very safe,” 13 percent “rather unsafe” and 4 percent “not safe at all.”
Additionally, 96 percent of Eastern European Jewish respondents said they felt safer compared to 76 percent of Western European Jewish respondents.
However, 66 percent of respondents answered that they expect anti-Semitism to worsen in the next decade, though 73 percent are satisfied with their government’s response to security issues in Jewish communities.

A letter Prof. Albert Einstein wrote thanking the orphans from the Ben Shemen Youth Village in Israel for sandals they made for him on his birthday is being put up for sale by King David Auctions in Jerusalem and is expected to fetch thousands of dollars, Israel Hayom reports.
It may be one of the last letters he wrote as it’s dated March 26, 1955, only three weeks before his death on April 18.
Einstein sent the letter to his good friend, Dr. Siegfried Lehman, the founder and director of the Ben Shemen Youth Village. The two studied together at university.
Lehman, who was born in Berlin in 1892, started a shelter for war orphans in Kaunus, Lithuania in 1919 and immigrated, (or “made Aliyah”) in 1926 together with his young students from the shelter and founded the youth village in Ben Shemen.
“The beautiful sandals arrived in perfect condition and were already inaugurated,” Einstein wrote in German. “And every time I slide my feet inside and out I’ll remember you with love and thanks. I wish you a happy and productive time.”
Einstein died a short time later and Israel Hayom says it’s not too much to conclude that the letter arrived only after his death.

Opinion: Boycotting Ivanka and Jared, how Trump-hating Jews go too far
 November 21, 2018
Opinion: Boycotting Ivanka and Jared, how Trump-hating Jews go too farJewish senior members of the US administration: Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner (AP/Alex Brandon)
The effort to treat the presidential daughter and son-in-law as unwelcome in the American Jewish community deepens the partisan divide in a way that undermines Jewish values.
By Jonathan S. Tobin, JNS.org
According to The New York Times, Ivanka and Jared Kushner aren’t going to have an easy time of it when and if they return to New York City after working in the administration of her father. The presidential daughter and son-in-law may be credited with helping guide the administration towards a strong pro-Israel stance, including a historical shift involving the move of the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. But as far as many Jews are concerned, they are a disgrace and should be treated as such.
That was the conceit of a feature article on the cover of the Styles section of last Sunday’s New York Times, which took as its premise the notion that involvement in the Trump administration was the sort of thing that decent people could not stomach.
I don’t doubt that many Jewish New Yorkers shared the point of view of one former high school classmate of Jared Kushner that he was complicit in acts of Chillul Hashem (literally, “desecrating the name of God”) or, as the Times’ somewhat inadequate definition put it, “when a Jew behaves immorally while in the presence of others.” The majority of American Jews are liberals and Democrats, and they regard U.S. President Donald Trump as beyond the pale.
You can criticize the president’s behavior or oppose some of his policies. But to assert that those serving the nation in his administration should be considered unworthy of being called to the Torah at synagogue—as one rabbi asserted to the Times—is injecting partisan fervor into Jewish life in a way that is unhealthy for both the country and the Jews. More than that, those who wish to treat the Kushners as pariahs are at least as, if not more, guilty of helping to destroy the fabric of American democracy as anything they imagine Trump is doing.

A finely crafted silver cigarette case that may have saved a life in the Lodz Ghetto has been brought to Israel.
By World Israel News Staff
A finely crafted silver cigarette case that may have saved a life in the Lodz Ghetto was handed over to the Faith & the Holocaust Institute for Education & Research, also known as the Shem Olam Institute, and transferred to Israel, Ma’ariv reports.
The case belonged to the director of the prison in the ghetto. It bares his name, Shlomo Soloman Hertzberg, and the symbol he wore on his arm denoting his rank as prison director.
Chaim Klieger, an artist, gave Hertzberg the case as a bribe in order to free a friend who was in the prison, or at least ease the conditions in which he was held, according to Ma’ariv. The fate of most of those in the Lodz Ghetto were labor camps or unknown destinations, the paper reports.
Remarkably, the cigarette case survived the war and was found among the ruins of the ghetto walls by a Polish man who kept it for a decade before handing it over to the Shem Olam Institute.
It’s unknown for certain if Klieger’s gift succeeded in freeing his friend. Klieger himself survived the war and immigrated to Israel, where he died in the 1950s.
“We’re talking about a very special object that wasn’t found during that period, certainly not during the days of the Second World War,” said the head of the Shem Olam Institute. “The artist decided to pass this object as a bribe, even though he knew it was an outstanding creation of art, in order to save the life of his friend. The fact that the case survived after so many years testifies to the quality and artistry.”

By TPS
Now is not the time to go to early elections while Israel is amidst one of the “most complex” security situations it has known in its history, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday evening at a press conference in Tel Aviv as he declared he would take up the post of defense minister vacated by Avigdor Liberman last week, when he resigned over the government’s Gaza policy throwing the coalition into crisis.
Minutes before Netanyahu addressed the nation on prime time television, Jewish Home leader an Education Minister Naftali Bennett and his deputy, Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, said they would be holding a press conference at 10 a.m. Monday.
Shaked said earlier this week that if Bennett was not appointed defense minister, the Jewish Home would pull out of the coalition, effectively bringing down the government which has a narrow 61-59 majority in the 120 seat Knesset, following Liberman’s resignation.
Prior to the press conference, Netanyahu met with his finance minister Moshe Kahlon, head of the Kulanu party to try and persuade him to remain in the coalition. Sources close to Kahlon said that the meeting failed to yield and agreement, but the two leaders would meet again later in the week.
Both Bennett and Kahlon, along with Shas chairman Aryeh Deri have said the country is better off holding elections as soon as possible.

Ministers Naftali Bennett and Ayelet Shaked of the Jewish Home party were expected to announce their resignation Monday morning, leaving the coalition government with less than a majority and making early elections inevitable. Instead, they backed down but called for a change in government policy.
Bennett, who serves as education minister, had demanded the defense ministry after Avigdor Liberman’s resignation last week, threatening to remove his party from the coalition if Netanyahu does not comply.
Without Bennett as defense minister, “this government is called right-wing but in practice fulfills left-wing policy,” Shaked stated Sunday.

Bennett said his party will remain in the government but called for an overhaul of security policies, stressing that Israel must start winning again.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
Jewish Home leader and Minister of Education Naftali Bennett called on the government to “change the course of its ship” and adopt an offensive and uncompromising security policy.
After announcing at a press conference on Monday that his party will remain part of the coalition, despite threats last week that he would leave if not given the defense minister portfolio, Bennett said that Israel needs to return to winning its battles.
Bennett heavily criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s defense policies but said he would “stand by his side” in an attempt to rectify Israel’s “deep security crisis.”
“The State of Israel is in the midst of a security crisis,” said Bennett. “Cruel enemies are nothing new to us. The situation hasn’t changed.”
In an address to the nation from the defense ministry in Tel Aviv, Netanyahu warned Sunday evening, referring largely to the terror emanating from Gaza, that Israel is “in a battle that has not yet ended. In such a sensitive period of security, it is irresponsible to topple the government.”
Responding to that assertion, Bennett said that “there is no apocalypse on the horizon. There are challenges, enemies,” as Israel has always faced.

American-Muslim political activist Linda Sarsour, a leader of the Women’s March on Washington, is urging her followers to sign a petition in support of Congresswoman-elect Ilhan Omar, who is “being attacked for saying that she supports BDS and the right for people to engage in constitutionally protected freedoms.”
The petition, titled #IStandWithIlhan, opens with the sentence: “We stand with you in the face of Islamophobic organizations attempting to attack you and undermine your leadership.”
“We need YOU,” Sarsour posted Thursday evening on Facebook, telling readers not to “stand idly while a brave Black Muslim American woman is targeted for saying she will uphold the constitution of the United States of America as a member of the US Congress.”

Seeking to secure Israel’s Jewish majority and character, Israel will not join the Global Compact for Migration.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel will not join the United Nations’ (UN) Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM).
In a statement Tuesday, Netanyahu, who also serves as Israel’s foreign minister, said he had instructed the Foreign Ministry to announce that Israel will not accede to, and will not sign, the GCM.
“We are committed to guarding our borders against illegal migrants. This is what we have done and this is what we will continue to do,” he stated.
The US, Austria and Hungry reportedly had asked Israel, which was initially involved in formulating the GCM, not to sign the treaty. These three countries – together with Australia, the Czech Republic, Romania and Bulgaria – have not joined the pact, saying that it impeded their sovereignty.

Linda Sarsour and Tamika Mallory have been repeatedly slammed for praising Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, a known anti-Semite.
By JNS.org
With charges of anti-Semitism and other bigotry against the Women’s March, the movement’s founder called on its leaders on Monday to quit.
“As Founder of the Women’s March, my original vision and intent was to show the capacity of human beings to stand in solidarity and love against the hateful rhetoric that had become a part of the political landscape in the U.S. and around the world,” Theresa Shook wrote in a Facebook post.
“Bob Bland, Tamika Mallory, Linda Sarsour and Carmen Perez of Women’s March, Inc. have steered the Movement away from its true course,” continued Shook. “I have waited, hoping they would right the ship. But they have not. In opposition to our Unity Principles, they have allowed anti-Semitism, anti-LBGTQIA sentiment and hateful, racist rhetoric to become a part of the platform by their refusal to separate themselves from groups that espouse these racist, hateful beliefs. I call for the current Co-Chairs to step down and to let others lead who can restore faith in the Movement and its original intent.”
Sarsour and Mallory have been repeatedly slammed for praising Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, a known anti-Semite whose annual Saviour’s Day was attended in February by Mallory.
Last week, actors Alyssa Milano and Debra Messing spoke out against anti-Semitism associated with movement, with the former announcing that she will not speak at next year’s march and the latter backing the decision.

Airbnb’s decision Monday to ban Judea and Samaria listings from its home-rental site sparked strong reactions.
By World Israel News Staff
Airbnb’s decision on Monday to ban Judea and Samaria apartment listings from its popular home-rental site kindled strong reactions from Jews and Arabs.
The strongest reaction, perhaps, came from Israel’s Minister of Tourism, Yariv Levin, who released a video of himself condemning Airbnb’s move, calling it “the most wretched of wretched capitulations to the boycott efforts.”
“We’re looking into submitting appeals against Airbnb in the U.S.,” Levin said, according to Israel’s state-owned Kan news.
“We’re also looking into imposing taxes on the company in order to exact a heavy price on account of their decision. Settlement in Yesha [Judea and Samaria] will emerge stronger in light of this experience,” he said.
The San Francisco-based company admitted its decision, which affects some 200 listings, was for political reasons. In a statement on its website, the company made it clear that it had accepted the Palestinian narrative of the conflict.

“The ascendancy of Sharia ideology in Nigeria rings the death toll for the Nigerian Church,” the Christian Association of Nigeria stated.
By Raymond Ibrahim, The Gatestone Institute
In what the Christian Association of Nigeria called a “pure genocide,” 238 more Christians were killed and churches desecrated by Muslims throughout the month of June. This brings the death toll of Christians to more than 6,000 between January and June of 2018 alone.
According to a joint statement by the Christian Association, an umbrella group of various Christian denominations, “There is no doubt that the sole purpose of these attacks is aimed at ethnic cleansing, land grabbing and forceful ejection of the Christian natives from their ancestral land and heritage.” In one of the attacks, “over 200 persons were brutally killed and our churches destroyed without any intervention from security agencies in spite of several distress calls made to them.”
The majority of those 6,000 Christians massacred this year were “mostly children, women and the aged… What is happening in … Nigeria is pure genocide and must be stopped immediately,” the Association stated.

Benjamin Netanyahu will meet a second time with his minister of finance to stave off early elections.
By David Isaac, World Israel News
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet a second time with Minister of Finance Moshe Kahlon on Sunday evening in one last attempt to stave off early elections.
Kahlon, who is also the head of the Kulanu Party, which represents 10 seats in the governing coalition, said Thursday that the government should go to elections as soon as possible, following Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman’s resignation on Wednesday.
Netanyahu will try to convince Kahlon to reverse his position and support the continuation of the coalition government, who ruling majority has been reduced to a slender 61 seats of 120 in Israel’s parliament.
Kahlon and Naftali Bennett, education minister and head of the Jewish Home Party, spoke yesterday and agreed that if Netanyahu can’t find a creative solution to the crisis today, they will vote on Wednesday for dissolving the Knesset, Army Radio reported Sunday.
Netanyahu cancelled two meetings scheduled for today in order to conduct negotiations designed to prevent an early end to his government coalition, cobbled together from five parties, including his own Likud Party.

Netanyahu promised to bring up the matter at the Cabinet meeting Sunday but failed to do so, Israel’s Channel 2 news reports.

In a reversal, PM Netanyahu may grant Education Minister Naftali Bennett’s request to head the defense department, according to reports.
By World Israel News Staff
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may be prepared to give Education Minister Naftali Bennett the defense portfolio, reversing his earlier refusal, according to reports.
The prime minister’s office revealed Sunday morning that Netanyahu is prepared to give the Jewish Home Party chairman the minister of defense post, Channel 13 reports.
Bennett’s party demanded that he be given the defense portfolio on Wednesday, voting unanimously in a special meeting.
Bennett had repeatedly attacked outgoing Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman’s policy of restraint over the last  months as rockets, fire kites and balloon bombs rained down on Israel’s south since the start of the so-called “March of Return,” the Hamas-organized riots on the Gaza-Israel border.
Liberman himself criticized Israel’s policy when he announced his resignation last Tuesday following Israel’s decision to agree to a ceasefire with the terrorist organization. It did so after enduring a barrage of roughly 500 rockets from the Gaza Strip.

By TPS
Two polls done by Israeli television news outlets have shown that the majority of citizens are unhappy with the way Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu handled the Gaza flare-up this week.
According to a poll done by Channel 2 News on Wednesday night, 74 percent of Israelis disapproved of how the prime minister dealt with the confrontation with Hamas.
In addition, 69 percent of those who participated said they were dissatisfied with outgoing Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman’s performance, while 51 percent, were dissatisfied with the IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot.
In a similar poll conducted by Israel Public Broadcaster Kan, 36 percent rated Netanyahu’s performance following the flare-up with Hamas, as “very bad,” 29 percent rated it as “bad,” while 12 percent rated it as “good,” and only 7 percent said Netanyahu had done a “very good” job of dealing with the situation.
In addition, 64 percent were angered about the ceasefire, favoring expanded military operations in Gaza, while only 21 percent of those who took part said Israel needed to agree to the ceasefire with Hamas.
If snap elections were to be called now, Netanyahu’s Likud party would receive only 29 seats – which is down from 31 in March.

Hamas has declared the recent round of violence with Israel as a victory for the terrorist organization, saying it was successful in thwarting the IDF’s plans.
In an interview with Hamas’ Al-Aqsa TV on Sunday, Hamas official Khalil al-Haya described the Israeli operation in Gaza, during which IDF Lt. Col. M. was killed and another IDF officer wounded, as a victory for Hamas.
Six Hamas terrorists, including a senior officer, were also killed in the shootout.
“The IDF attempted to plant listening devices [in Gaza], but the Palestinian resistance stood guard,” al-Haya stated.
A week after the botched IDF secret reconnaissance operation on the outskirts of Khan Younis, Hamas continues to present the deadly clash as a great success for the terror group.

Earlier that day, Minister of Defense Avigdor Liberman announced his resignation, leaving the Likud-led government with a narrow coalition of 61 Members of Knesset.

At a rally Friday attended by hundreds in Gaza, Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar waved a handgun in the air, shouting into the microphone that Israel’s economic capital was in imminent danger.
“Next time, the barrage of rockets will reach Tel Aviv and Gush Dan [the surrounding area],” he declared in a display of power at a memorial event for seven terrorists who were killed by Israeli special forces during a firefight last Sunday. That incident set off the latest attack by Hamas and Islamic Jihad in which 470 rockets and mortars were fired at southern Israeli communities over the next day and a half.
The Iron Dome defensive system shot down approximately one hundred missiles, but several dozen managed to hit populated areas, injuring dozens and destroying several homes and businesses.
Israel retaliated by hitting some 150 targets, including terrorist tunnels and command centers in precision bombing attacks, killing only a handful of terrorists. The IDF had warned Gazans about the locations of the bombings ahead of time in order to prevent civilian casualties.

UN first: US opposes resolution nullifying Israel’s right to Golan

UN first: US opposes resolution nullifying Israel’s right to GolanUnited Nations US Ambassador Nikki Haley (AP/Bebeto Matthews)
The United States has voted for the first time against a U.N. resolution in favor of Syria’s possession of the Golan Heights, which it lost after attacking Israel in the 1967 war.
By AP and World Israel News Staff
The United Nations General Assembly’s “decolonization committee” voted 152-2 in favor of a resolution attacking Israel’s control of the Golan Heights, with 14 abstentions.
The U.S. previously abstained on the resolution, but on Friday it voted “no” for the first time, joined by Israel, which has retained control of the area since Syria and three other Arab nations attacked Israel in 1967’s Six-Day War.
The Golan Heights remains a strategic linchpin for Israel, protecting it from the Iranian military, which operates freely in Syria and is sworn to Israel’s destruction, and Islamic terror groups such as ISIS.
The resolution, which passed along with eight other anti-Israel resolutions, declares Israel’s jurisdiction and administration of “the occupied Syrian Golan” to be “null and void.”
U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley announced in advance that the U.S. would vote “no,” calling the resolution “biased against Israel.”
She added, “[T]he atrocities the Syrian regime continues to commit prove its lack of fitness to govern anyone.”
The resolution is virtually certain to be adopted by the 193-member General Assembly in December, which is dominated by nations that are hostile to Israel.
The consistent and disproportionate focus of U.N. agencies on condemning Israel has led the Jewish state, and its closest ally, the U.S., to withdraw from bodies such as UNESCO and the U.N. Human Rights Council, the latter of which focuses on Israel at the expense of some of the world’s worst human rights abusers, such as Syria, North Korea, and Iran.

The Jewish Home Party is leaving the coalition, forcing early elections, according to reports. But Netanyahu says the rumors aren’t true.
By World Israel News Staff
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s main coalition partner, the Jewish Home Party, announced it’s seeking elections “as soon as possible” and wants a date set on Sunday.
The news came after the Jewish Home Party’s chairman and current education minister, Naftali Bennett, met with Netanyahu on Friday.
The Associated Press quotes an unnamed Jewish Home official who said it became clear after the Bennett-Netanyahu meeting that there “is a need to go to elections as soon as possible.” He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was discussing the content of a closed meeting.
The Jewish Home party official said leaders of the coalition parties will meet Sunday to coordinate the date for early elections.
However, Netanyahu denied the reports, according to a spokesman, who quoted the prime minister saying, “the rumors that a decision has been made to go to an early election are not correct.”
Media in Israel are reporting that the reason the Jewish Home Party is leaving is because Netanyahu rejected Bennett’s demand that he be made minister of defense.

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin condemned Hamas on an official visit to the Vatican and Rome on Thursday.
In a private meeting with Pope Francis at the Apostolic Palace, Rivlin said, “Hamas has repeatedly led to a severe escalation time and again, while callously exploiting the plight of the residents of the Gaza Strip.”
He said, “Israel does not want an escalation or to hurt innocent civilians, but will not stand by while Hamas undermines stability and our civilians are harmed.”
Rivlin was referring to the firing of more than 450 rockets and mortar ‎‎shells on Israel’s south starting ‎from Monday afternoon and continuing overnight to Tuesday morning, ‎killing one person and wounding ‎‎55 in the worst ‎flare-up in the area since ‎‎2014.‎
Rivlin said that before any agreement could be reached with the terrorist organization, Hamas must first return the two Israeli civilians it is holding captive and the bodies of two Israel Defense Forces’ soldiers killed in 2014’s “Operation Protective Edge.”

It is not only an outlook that sees the Diaspora as so much better than a renewed clannish ghetto. It is the concept of Israel itself, as much as it is their misrepresentation of what Israel is and does.
By Yisrael Medad, JNS.org
The template of Babylon vs. Zion has taken many forms since the majority of Jews, in exile after the destruction of the First Temple and the loss of Jewish political independence, declined to return to the Land of Israel. It exists among Orthodox Jews and the less-to-non-observant Jews. Jews of the right and the left. Jews of strong identity and those who seek to be assimilated. But there is a new category today.
If, in the past, Jewish nationalism was disfavored or even rejected more because of how the Jews preferring a Diaspora existence viewed themselves, we now see an increasing willingness, if not a perverse delight, in dissing Israel not as a particularly internal Jewish matter, from the Bundists, the early Reform, the American Council for Judaism to the Neturei Karta and British Jewish opponents of the Balfour Declaration, but as a matter which is to be judged as how the Jews are affected in their Diaspora locations.

UNRWA scrambles to fill gaping hole left by US cuts

This week, the Palestinians’ UN agency received extra contributions to fill the gap left after the United States decided to pull all funding.
By Joseph Wolkin
The United Nations dedicated agency for Palestinians entered recovery mode when President Donald Trump cut more than $200 million in aid this past August that was supposed to run throughout 2018.
The agency, UNRWA, aimed to fill the gap for its $1.2 billion budget. When Trump opted to drop out of UNRWA altogether, it left UNRWA with an overall $446 million deficit.
On Thursday, UNRWRA announced it is close to filling out the gap.
Trump and Nikki Haley, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, have taken several stands against UNRWA over the past two years, opposing its terror incitement, anti-Semitic curriculum in UNRWA schools, and perpetration of the Palestinian “refugee” quagmire.
UNRWA’s chief, Pierre Kraehenbuehl, gained extra support from several Muslim-majority nations, including pledges from Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabi and the United Arab Emirates. Each of the countries are now giving UNRWA $50 million each.
“I’ll be very honest in saying, I don’t think many people believed that we would be able to overcome a $446 million shortfall at the beginning of the year,” Kraehenbuehl said.

By Jack Gold, World Israel News
The Ministry of Defense has formulated a plan to grant former members of the South Lebanon Army (SLA) who live in Israel funds to purchase homes, Israel Hayom reported Monday.
The plan will be brought to the Cabinet for approval in the coming days, the report said.
Each SLA veteran will be entitled to NIS 500,000 towards housing. The grant will be provided over the course of the next five years.
With some 300 eligible veterans, the aid is estimated to cost a total of NIS 150 million.
The former SLA fighters and family members live mostly in northern Israel.
The aid is being given “in recognition of the activities of SLA veterans for Israel and taking into account their economic distress,” the proposal indicates. It is being done “in deep appreciation for their work for the state of Israel, and taking into account the economic distresses experienced by most of them, particularly the housing issue.”

Is Israel heading to snap elections?

Since Liberman’s resignation, political indicators point to Israel’s return to the ballot to elect a new government.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
A tumultous week on the Israeli political scene points to early elections within 90 days, senior coalition officials estimate.
Minister of Defense Avigdor Liberman announced his resignation on Wednesday, leaving the Likud-led government with a narrow coalition of 61 Members of Knesset.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reacted by saying he had no interest in moving up the elections. He immediately began a round of consultations with senior Likud figures and leaders of the coalition parties in an effort to stabilize the government.
The Yedioth Aharonoth daily quoted a senior coalition official as saying that the prime minister “does not want to give Liberman the credit that he led to the elections and caused the collapse of the government … There is one person who sets the agenda, and his name is Benjamin Netanyahu.”

The departure of Yisrael Beiteinu from the government leaves Netanyahu with a razor-thin one-seat majority in the Knesset.
By Benjamin Kerstein, The Algemeiner
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scrambling to shore up his governing coalition following the resignation of Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, the Hebrew daily Yediot Ahronot reported on Wednesday.
The Yisrael Beiteinu leader resigned on Wednesday in protest of Netanyahu’s “capitulation to terror” —  Liberman’s description of the Gaza ceasefire reached after a surge of violence earlier this week that included the firing of more than 400 rockets into southern Israel.
The departure of Yisrael Beiteinu from the government leaves Netanyahu with a razor-thin one-seat majority in the Knesset.
Further complicating the situation, Education Minister Naftali Bennett’s Jewish Home party issued an ultimatum to the prime minister, saying it would also leave the coalition if Bennett was not chosen to replace Liberman as defense minister. A Jewish Home withdrawal from the government would erase Netanyahu’s Knesset majority and make early elections almost certain.

Israeli police say a knife-wielding Palestinian terrorist sneaked into a Jerusalem police station and lightly wounded four police officers.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says the terrorist climbed over the station’s fence and began stabbing people inside. The attack happened on Wednesday night.
Rosenfeld says other officers shot the assailant and captured him. He was taken to hospital.
The attack came as a fragile truce was reached between Israel and Islamic militants in Gaza that ended two days of heavy fighting. It was the area’s most severe violence since the 2014 Gaza war

Minister of Regional Cooperation Tzachi Hanegbi was harshly criticized by politicians and public leaders across the political spectrum following his comment that there was a difference between rockets fired by Hamas at Israel’s south and at Tel Aviv.
Commenting on the violence, Hanegbi told IDF Radio on Thursday that Hamas’ attacks were “minor,” and that they were mostly focused on the area surrounding the Gaza Strip. “Firing at Tel Aviv has another meaning,” he said.
Hamas on Monday night and Tuesday unleashed a barrage of over 460 rockets from Gaza aimed at civilian targets, killing one man and wounding some 80 Israelis at various locations throughout the south. Twenty-three structures inside Israeli communities were hit by the rockets.

The Jewish Home party threatens to leave the coalition if its leader Naftali Bennett doesn’t get the defense portfolio.
By David Isaac, World Israel News
The ink was barely dry on outgoing Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman’s resignation when the Jewish Home party demanded that its head, Minister of Education Naftali Bennett, be given the defense portfolio or the party will bolt the coalition, forcing early elections.
On Wednesday night, the Jewish Home Party threw weight behind Bennett’s ultimatum, voting unanimously on a resolution demanding the top defense post for their leader.
The faction said it wanted their man running the ministry of defense “in order to change the security policy and reestablish Israel’s initiative and deterrence. A government without deterrence isn’t a right-wing government. If we don’t receive the authority for the national mission to change the security situation together with the prime minister, we have no taste for continuing in the government.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should be praised for caution, mired as he is in a ‘no-win’ situation created by former PM Ariel Sharon.
By Jonathan Tobin, JNS.org
People demonstrated in the streets of Sderot on Tuesday, and who could blame them?
They had spent days running back and forth to bomb shelters and safe rooms, enduring the tension and dangers of being subjected to hundreds of rockets fired at their town, as well as the rest of southern Israel, by Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists from Gaza.
But their reaction to news of a ceasefire between Israel and its foes didn’t bring the usual joy and relief. They were mad that once again, Hamas had terrorized and held hundreds of thousands of Israelis hostage — and gotten away with it.
More to the point, they blamed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for failing them and the country by refusing to respond more forcefully to the 450-plus rockets fired on the country.

The clock is ticking for Israel’s government to make good on its promise to remove the illegal Bedouin outpost of Khan al-Ahmar.
By Bill Mehlman, World Israel News
The news cycle is currently revolving around Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman’s decision to step down. The main reason he gave, and the only one the media are focusing on, is the Israeli government’s failure to rein in Hamas on the southern border.
Virtually ignored is the second reason he gave — the Netanyahu administration’s failure to evacuate the illegal Bedouin outpost of Khan al-Ahmar.
The clock is ticking on Khan al-Ahmar.  Israel’s Supreme Court has given Prime Minister Netanyahu and his Likud-led coalition until December 2, to move on the Court’s authorization to take down the collection of shacks illegally thrown together 25 years ago in Israeli-controlled “Area C” of Judea and Samaria by members  the Jahalin Abu-Dehuk Bedouin tribe.

Amid protests and government upheaval due to the ceasefire with Hamas, Netanyahu defended the move, saying there were secret considerations.
By Adina Katz, World Israel News
Ahead of Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman’s resignation due to his opposition to the ceasefire deal with Hamas, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the truce agreement, saying there were reasons unknown to the public.
“In times of emergency, when making decisions crucial to security, the public can’t always be privy to the considerations that must be hidden from the enemy,” Netanyahu said at a state memorial service for David Ben Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister, in Sde Boker.
“At these moments, it is not up to leadership to do the easy thing but to do the right thing, even if it is difficult. Leadership is sometimes to be criticized, when you know secret and sensitive things that you cannot share with the citizens of Israel, and in this case the residents of the south, whom I love so much and appreciate,” he added.
“Our enemies begged for a ceasefire, and they knew very well why,” the prime minister stated.
The Egyptian-brokered ceasefire was reached Tuesday evening after Hamas and other terror groups in Gaza launched close to 500 rockets into Israel within 24 hours

“I announce my resignation,” Liberman said. “Yesterday’s ceasefire, in combination with an agreement process with Hamas is a capitulation to terror. What we’re doing in effect at the moment is buying quiet for the short-term at the cost of our national security in the long-term.”
“The answer we gave to 500 rockets was neither adequate nor enough. From the security interest point of view, we had to finish first of all the issue of the south. The weakness that we revealed broadcasts to other areas,” he said.

Refusing to acknowledge the reality that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel is a departure from the way the Times treats other countries.
By Ira Stoll, The Algemeiner
Sunday’s New York Times travel section features an article suggesting “Five Places To Go In Jerusalem.” But readers curious about which country Jerusalem is in get no help from the Times: the article, strangely, doesn’t mention the word “Israel.”
Refusing to acknowledge the reality that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel is a departure from the way the Times treats other countries. The same Times Sunday travel section, for example, also includes an article about Oslo. A Times headline refers to it as “the Norwegian capital,” and the article describes it as “this compact Norwegian city. … Norway’s forward-thinking capital.”
Earlier pieces in the Times’ “Five Places To Go” series included articles about cities that the Times identified as “Düsseldorf, Germany,” and “San José, Costa Rica.”

A prominent think tank has criticized the report published this week by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirming the Tehran regime’s continuing compliance with the JCPOA — the watershed nuclear deal on the country’s illicit nuclear program reached in July 2015, but decertified by the US in May this year as part of President Donald Trump’s new offensive against Iran’s Islamist rulers.

IDF spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Ronen Manelis said the IDF will begin a call-up of reserve soldiers.
By JNS and World Israel News Staff
As Hamas continued to lob rockets on Israeli population centers in southern Israel on Tuesday morning, IDF spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Ronen Manelis said the Israel Defense Forces may call-up of its reserves if necessary.
In a radio interview, Manelis said a small number of reserves has been called up, most related to air defense, but additional troops may be called up as necessary.
Since Monday, Hamas and Islamic Jihad has launched more than 400 rockets at populated civilian areas in Israeli areas near Gaza, including Ashkelon, a city of 140,000 people, and Beersheba, which is home to 208,000 residents and known as the “capital of the Negev.”

By World Israel News Staff
A 48-year-old man was killed when a rocket struck his house in Ashkelon late Monday night.
Mahmoud Abu Asbah, a Palestinian worker who hailed from the town of Halhul north of Hebron, was the first fatality since terrorists began firing rockets Monday afternoon. His 40-year-old wife was found in serious condition and evacuated to Barzilai Hospital
A second woman, unconscious and badly injured, was found in the same building and evacuated to Barzilai Medical Center in critical but stable condition.  Magen David Adom paramedic Eyal Chen said, “After the rocket landed, we searched the area, the fire department broke into one apartment which was locked and there we found a 60-year-old woman, unconscious with blast wounds and multiple injuries.”

The U.N. text will transform unrestricted migration into a human right. Will  it increase pressure on Israel to open its borders to illegal immigrants?
By Daniel Krygier, World Israel News
The U.N. drafted a text that will transform unrestricted migration into a human right. It’s called the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration and it seeks to promote and protect migration as a human right.
Most countries, including possibly Israel, are expected to sign the non-binding text in December in Morocco. Will this U.N.-initiated agreement then be used to apply pressure on Israel to open its borders to all migrants?
Israel is one of very few advanced countries that can be reached directly from third world economies without crossing any body of water. By contrast, illegal migrants in Africa or the Middle East who want to reach Europe need to first cross the Mediterranean.
Most of the tens of thousands of illegal migrants living in Israel illegally entered from the increasingly lawless, Egypt-controlled Sinai Peninsula.
As a result, Israel built an expensive, comprehensive border fence along its border with Egypt. Since the border fence was completed in December 2013, the illegal influx of migrants to Israel practically stopped.

A Hamas missile struck a bus in the Shaar Hanegev Region near the Gaza border. One soldier was badly injured but a much greater disaster was narrowly avoided.
By World Israel News Staff
It’s being called a miracle. If it had happened minutes earlier it would have been called a catastrophe.
On Monday afternoon, a Hamas missile struck a bus in the Shaar Hanegev Region near the Gaza border. Only minutes before, 50 young Israeli soldiers had exited just before it exploded.
According to people at the scene, the soldiers disembarked only moments before the Russian-made Kornet anti-tank missile struck the back part of the bus.
One soldier, 19, was gravely injured. He happened to be standing near the bus and received shrapnel to his upper body, chest and head, according to Ynet news. He was evacuated to a hospital.
The bus attack was the start of the latest wave of violence, in which Hamas launched 100s of mortars and rockets at Israel, killing one man in the Israeli coastal city of Ashkelon and wounding dozens of others.

Running constantly to safe rooms during missile strikes from Gaza, Israeli citizens are angry over the government and IDF’s weak response.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
City of Ashkelon residents now join towns like Sderot, Netivot, and other villages closer to the Gaza belt, in running repeatedly to safe rooms over the last 36 hours as Hamas lobbed hundreds of missiles at Israel.
School was cancelled Tuesday across the south for security reasons, including in Beersheba, Ashdod, Kiryat Gat and Kiryat Malachi, which until now have escaped the bombardment.
Citizens as far away as the Lachish region (some 60 km from Gaza) have been told to stay close to their shelters, and the army has ordered that there be no large gatherings in open areas throughout the south for the day.
One Ashkelon resident, Ruthi Mozgorashvilli, ran to safety seconds before a missile hit her apartment on Monday.
“I was alone at home. I ran to the safe room when the siren sounded. Suddenly the whole living-room ceiling fell in. I’m still in shock,” the middle-aged woman told Israel Hayom, describing her moments of sheer terror.
“The safe room saved my life even though I didn’t have time to close its metal shutter. … When it hit, there was such a loud boom. I’ll never forget that boom. When I went out of the room it was completely dark, because the electricity had gone out. I heard people screaming at me, “Get out!”

As the latest attacks against Israel from Hamas have taken place in Gaza, the U.S. State Department condemned the terrorist group and reaffirmed that Israel has the right to defend itself.
“We are aware of reports of ongoing rocket and mortar attacks from Gaza against targets in Israel,” a State Department official told JNS on Monday. “We condemn these attacks and call for their immediate halt. We stand with Israel as it defends itself against these attacks.”
According to the Israeli Defense Forces, at least 300 rockets have been fired from the Gaza Strip at southern Israel on Monday amid renewed tensions following the death of an Israeli special-forces soldier earlier in the day, with the Iron Dome missile-defense system intercepting dozens of them, while others have struck Israeli homes and buildings near the border, or have landed in open areas.

A neo-Nazi who named his baby after Adolf Hitler and dressed in Ku Klux Klan robes previously attempted to convert to Judaism at a Jerusalem yeshiva, the UK’s Jewish Chronicle reported Monday.
Adam Thomas, 22, his partner Claudia Patatas, and Daniel Bogunovic, 27, were all tried and convicted by the Birmingham Crown Court of being members of National Action, an illegal neo-Nazi group.
Thomas was also convicted of having a copy of the Anarchist’s Cookbook, which could be used for terrorism purposes.
It was during the trial that the couple, who owned a large collection of Nazi and far-right memorabilia, gave their son the middle name “Adolf.”
Thomas and Patatas will be sentenced in December.

Israel’s tourism industry continued to experience significant growth in 2018, with slightly less than a million (949,000) tourists visiting the country between January and March of this year.
This represents a 30 percent increase over last year’s numbers and 58 percent more than 2016. This influx of holiday travelers and pilgrims injected NIS 4.9 billion into Israel’s economy.

By Shiryn Ghermezian, The Algemeiner
Actor Gerard Butler faced a wave of criticism and taunting from pro-Palestinian activists on social media for supporting Israeli soldiers after he shared a photo of his California home that was destroyed by one of the wildfires currently ravaging the state.
Earlier this month, the “300” star attended the annual Friends of the IDF (FIDF) Western Region Gala in Los Angeles, where a record $60 million was raised for programs assisting Israeli soldiers. The event was hosted by Israeli-American philanthropist Haim Saban and his wife, Cheryl.
On Sunday, the Scottish actor posted on Twitter and Instagram a photo of him standing in front of the smoldering remnants of his Malibu home. He said he was “inspired as ever by the courage, spirit and sacrifice of firefighters,” and asked his fans to support the Los Angeles Fire Department.
In response, Israel haters commenting on his Instagram photo called Butler a “f***ing Zionist,” a “criminal and a piece of human trash for supporting the IDF,” and claimed that his house burned down “because you support murderers.” One Instagram user wrote, “that [is] what you deserve when you support the Zionists” and another asked Butler, “You ever thought it was Gods karma for raising $60 million dollars for IDF soldiers to kill Palestinians? Just a thought.” Another user wrote “Israhell occupied palestinian land but very soon they will be defeated.”

Camp Fire now deadliest and most destructive in California history

Camp Fire now deadliest and most destructive in California history
(The Watchers) Camp Fire has exploded in size since November 8, 2018, and is now the deadliest and most destructive individual wildfire in California history. On November 12, the death toll climbed to 31 and there are still 121 people missing. As of 19:36 PST, November 11 (03:36 UTC, November 12), the fire has consumed 44,515 ha (111,000 acres) of land and is 25% contained. A total of 6,713 structures have been destroyed (6

453 residences and 260 commercial), making it by far the most destructive individual wildfire in the history of the state. 15,500 structures remain under threat. Sadly, the death toll climbed to 29 on November 11, tying it with the deadliest toll in California’s recorded history and to 31 on November 12, making it the deadliest. However, there are still 121 people missing and the death toll will likely continue rising. The search for missing people continues in destroyed town of Paradise (population 27,000).

Over 228 still remain unaccounted for in deadly California fires.

Over 228 still remain unaccounted for in deadly California fires.
(CBN News) – As wildfires continued to rage on both ends of California, officials released another grim statistic: six more dead in a swath of Northern California wiped out by fire, raising the death toll there to 29. It matched California’s record for deaths in a single fire. Another 228 remain unaccounted for as crews stepped up the search for bodies and missing people. Two people were killed in a wildfire in Southern California. Ten search teams were working in Paradise – a town of 27,000 that was largely
incinerated last week – and in surrounding communities in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Authorities called in a DNA lab and teams of anthropologists to help identify victims. Statewide, 150,000 remained displaced as more than 8,000 fire crews battled wildfires that have scorched 400 square miles (1,040 square kilometers), with out-of-state crews continuing to arrive. Whipping winds and tinder-dry conditions threaten more areas through the rest of the week, fire officials warned.

Israel reportedly has been providing information to the ICC, through a third party, related to Operation Protective Edge.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
Over the past several months, Israel has been giving information to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague, through an unnamed third party, regarding its actions during Operation Protective Edge, Ha’aretz reported Sunday.
The court, through its prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, had opened an investigation of the military campaign against Hamas in the Gaza Strip in the summer of 2014. The Palestinian Authority (PA), which is a member state of the court, requested the probe soon after the operation ended, alleging that Israel committed war crimes during the 51-day conflict.
Israel is not a member of the ICC and maintains that since the PA is not a state, the court has no jurisdiction over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
For the past four years, Israel has resisted dealing with the court’s hunt for information. Now that the preliminary investigation is allegedly coming to an end, having only heard from the Palestinian side, Israel’s political and military echelons have apparently decided to cooperate to an extent.
The Ha’aretz sources stress that at no time did Israel pass on to The Hague raw security data.
Israel has insisted that its actions during the war were legal and in accordance with international law and has received backing from prestigious groups such as the High Level Military Group. These experts in the laws of armed conflict, all retired generals and senior defense officials from Germany, Colombia, India, Spain, Australia, the United States, France, the United Kingdom and Italy, investigated the campaign for months afterward. In 2015 they reported to the UN that Israel had adopted a far-higher level of restraint when attacking Hamas than any other military in an effort to minimize non-combatant casualties, while blaming Hamas for the vast majority of civilian deaths.
The ICC can try individuals, not states, and has no power to detain people. But members of both the Israeli government and the military could be arrested by member states when traveling abroad.

Israeli residents living in the vicinity of the Gaza Strip suffered another anxiety-filled night following the severe fighting between IDF Special Forces and Hamas terrorists inside the Gaza Strip.
Gaza-based terrorists fired 17 rockets at communities in the Eshkol region, repeatedly setting off sirens throughout the night. The constant exposure to danger and uncertainty is taking its toll.
Sharon Calderon, who lives in Kibbutz Sufa near Gaza, told Israel Hayom about the “inability to plan your day like everyone else because a flare-up can occur any moment.”
Discsussing the precarioius security situation, she recounted how her family had been enjoying a quiet evening outdoors on Sunday, and “then we started to hear explosions and planes and shooting and then the rocket fire and the sirens and the panic attacks.”

Israeli forces bombed a Hamas television station in Gaza after the IDF issued a warning that the facility would be targeted.
By Associated Press and World Israel News Staff
An Israeli airstrike hit Hamas’ Gaza-based Al-Aqsa TV station, a media outlet used by the terror group to incite riots and anti-Israeli violence.
The station went off the air after the airstrike. Minutes earlier, it halted its programming and was broadcasting a still image of its logo after the building was hit by a warning missile.
Shortly thereafter, three loud explosions were heard and the screen turned black
Witnesses say the blast destroyed the entire building, and explosions illuminated the night sky.
Workers evacuated the building after the warning shots. It was not clear whether there were any casualties.
The strike occurred after Israel’s military warned that it was prepared to step up its efforts against Palestinian terror groups in the Gaza Strip if rocket fire at Israel continues.

In recent years, date growers in the Jordan Valley, wine producers in the Golan Heights and farmers from Judea and Samaria have suffered what they describe as significant losses due to BDS efforts to disrupt the sale of their agricultural produce abroad, especially in Europe.

Inspired by a Jewish friend, an Iranian immigrant raised nearly $1 million online for Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue.
By JNS.org
Iranian immigrant Shay Khatiri created an online fundraiser for the victims of Tree of Life*Or L’Simcha synagogue in Pittsburgh after waking up on his Jewish friend’s couch to the heartbreaking news that 11 mostly elderly Jews were shot dead by an armed gunman who entered during weekly Shabbat services on Saturday. Six others were injured in the Oct. 27 attack.
“She told me what happened, and she was just broken,” Khatiri told CNN. “Seeing how upset she was, I wanted to donate to the congregation.”
“I thought to myself, I could donate $18 or $36—something like that. But that wouldn’t make a huge impact,” he said. “If I did something like this, maybe it could go viral.”

Using European money, Palestinians have expropriated tens of thousands of acres of Israeli land in a determined plan to create “irreversible facts on the ground.”
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
A report released last week exposes the depth and breadth of the Palestinian Authority’s plan to  silently seize Israeli land. The plan, whose purpose is to bring these lands under Palestinian control, is fueled by European Union (EU) funding.
The report was put out by Regavim, an Israeli NGO that deals primarily with land issues. It conducts field surveys and documents the illegality of Palestinian land-grabs. The group has petitioned the courts many times to demand that the state perform its duty and enforce the land-use laws equally to all. According to the report, Israel’s government has been lax in doing so.

Debra Messing supports fellow actress Alyssa Milano in criticizing Women’s March leaders for not condemning Farrakhan.
By Shiryn Ghermezian, The Algemeiner
Jewish actress Debra Messing has followed in the footsteps of fellow performer Alyssa Milano in distancing herself from leaders of the Women’s March movement due to their refusal to condemn notorious anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan.
On Thursday night, Messing tweeted a link to Milano’s recent interview with The Advocate in which the latter said she would not speak at another Women’s March event until organizers Linda Sarsour and Tamika Mallory denounced Nation of Islam leader Farrakhan’s anti-Semitism.
The “Will & Grace” star tagged Milano in the tweet and wrote, “I stand with you.”
Messing attended the Women’s March’s flagship rally in 2017 and was a big supporter of the protest, according to The Advocate.
Milano told the publication last week, “Any time that there is any bigotry or anti-Semitism in that respect, it needs to be called out and addressed. I’m disappointed in the leadership of the Women’s March that they haven’t done it adequately.”
She added, “[It’s] unfortunate that none of them have come forward against him at this point. Or even given a really good reason why to support them.”

BDS targets Israeli Eurovision winner’s European tour

Eurovision contest winner Netta Barzilai’s European tour is being targeted by the BDS movement.
By TPS
Eurovision Song Contest winner Netta Barzilai’s European tour, which begins in Vienna, is being targeted by anti-Israel boycott movements that have called for her to be given a “warm BDS welcome.”
The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement called for a boycott of Barzilai, who won the 63rd Eurovision Song Contest with her song “Toy” in Lisbon earlier this year, due to what activists are calling her role in the Israeli government’s efforts to whitewash its violations of Palestinian human rights.
An article on the BDS Facebook page said that while the movement usually targets Israeli institutions and not “individuals based on their identity” Barzilai is a “representative of Israel and a cultural ambassador” and “has clearly been recruited to participate in Israel’s rebranding efforts.”

Controversy swirled Sunday after Israel transferred $15 million in cash to Hamas on Thursday.
By David Isaac, World Israel News
Controversy swirled Sunday over the Israeli government’s transfer of $15 million in cash in suitcases to Hamas on Thursday. Qatar supplied the money, which will be used to pay Palestinian civil servant salaries.
To ensure the money went to where it was intended, the transfer was photographed. However, IDF Radio reported Sunday that a portion of the money lined Hamas’s pockets.
“Hamas took part of the funds for their money box. The Qataris sent 52 million shekels for 40,000 clerks and needy families, meaning 1,300 shekels a person. In fact, many clerks received only 800 shekels, and the needy received 400 shekels,” the station tweeted.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the move on Saturday night as he boarded a flight to Paris where he will meet with French President Emanuel Macron at a peace conference to celebrate 100 years since the end of World War I.
“I am doing what I can … to restore peace and prevent a humanitarian crisis,” Netanyahu said. “Right now, this is the right step. For every step, without exception, there is a price. When you take steps as a leader, there is always a price. If you can’t bear the cost, you can’t lead.”
Education Minister Naftali Bennett blasted the decision on Sunday, calling it “protection money” in an interview with Israel’s Kan Bet. “You can buy quiet for a short time but you accustom the other side to use violence to achieve its interests,” he said.

Knesset caucus demands Hebron observer group get the boot(TIP
Confirmation of biased, anti-Israel activities on the part of a civilian observer mission in Hebron came from a former official.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
Members of Knesset belonging to the Land of Israel caucus have sent a formal letter to their colleagues asking for support in ending the mandate of The International Presence in Hebron (TIPH).
TIPH, a civilian observer mission, began operating in Hebron after the massacre of 29 Arabs in the Cave of the Patriarchs by Dr. Baruch Goldstein in 1994. It was withdrawn twice, but ever since the city was divided into Palestinian- and Israeli-controlled sections in 1997, the U.N.-backed group has maintained a constant presence in the city.

Residents of Israeli communities surrounding the Gaza Strip on Sunday blocked the Kerem Shalom border crossing and held up trucks carrying supplies into Gaza for several hours, protesting the transfer of goods while terror attacks from Gaza continued.
Itzik Stein Gutman, who organized the protest, told Israel Hayom that they decided to block the road for five hours in order to pressure the government to take more effective action and to raise national awareness.

In Paris, Netanyahu will discuss with world leaders the looming threat to Israel from Iran’s proxy in Lebanon.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flew to Paris on Saturday night to participate in the peace conference marking the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
Netanyahu is slated to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss the danger posed by the Iranian nuclear program and Tehran’s involvement in the Middle East as well as the Hezbollah’s armaments buildup, including the establishment of an Iranian precision missile factory in Lebanon.
Netanyahu may also meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and U.S. President Donald Trump.
Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah warned that Hezbollah will “inevitably respond” to any attack against Lebanon and “will not accept any underestimation by the enemy” of his group’s power, “as it used to do in the past.”

IDF discovers 2 grenades meant for Jewish worshipers at Joseph’s Tomb

IDF forces discovered two grenades at Joseph’s Tomb on Tuesday night.
By World Israel News Staff
On Tuesday, Israeli Defense Forces protecting a pilgrimage of 1,000 Jewish worshipers to the Tomb of Joseph discovered two grenades hidden at the site.
The hand grenades were of makeshift design and appeared  to be manufactured locally, according to reports.
In addition, gunfire was directed at an Israel Defense Forces vehicle and Palestinian Arabs threw rocks and Molotov cocktails.
Although the Tomb of Joseph located near the city of Schechem (Nablus) is completely under Arab control as set forth in the Oslo Accords, Jews retain special rights to pray at the tomb.

Israeli passports to Saudi Arabia? Warming ties may see Muslims go on the Hajj as citizens of the Jewish State

Israeli passports to Saudi Arabia? Warming ties may see Muslims go on the Hajj as citizens of the Jewish StateMuslim pilgrims pray on the last day of the annual hajj pilgrimage in Mina, outside the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. (AP/Dar Yasin)
An apparent step backwards could in fact signal a further move toward normalization between Israel and Saudi-Arabia.
By Yona Schnitzer, TPS
Israeli Muslims could find themselves at least temporarily unable to make the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages to Mecca after Saudi officials announced Tuesday that from now on, entry to the Kingdom will only be permitted with an official state-issued passport, which includes identification numbers.
The move effectively voids the temporary Jordanian permits that have been issued to Israeli-Arab pilgrims since 1978 in order for them to travel to the holy Muslim cities of Mecca and Medina during the month of Ramadan, circumventing a ban on Israeli citizens entering Saudi-Arabia, which has no diplomatic relations with Israel.
However, speculation has arisen that the move may actually signal a further step toward normalization between Israel and Saudi-Arabia.

Israel’s Supreme Court: Temple Mount metal detectors for Jews only

Israel’s Supreme Court: Temple Mount metal detectors for Jews onlyIsraeli security forces escort a group of religious Jews as they visit the Temple Mount, October 1, 2018. (Flash90/Sliman Khader)
Israel’s Supreme Court rejected an appeal to remove metal detectors located only at the Temple Mount entrance used by Jews.
By World Israel News Staff
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court unanimously rejected an appeal from Otzma Yehudit, a right-wing party, against the decision to place metal detectors only at the entrance where Jews enter the Temple Mount, Ma’ariv reported today.
Attorney for the appellant, Itamar Ben Gavir, wrote in the appeal that the current situation, “unlawfully infringes upon the equality of Jewish visitors and tourists – the use of a metal detector is used in their inspection at the Temple Mount entrance, but among Muslims the inspection does not include the use of a metal detector.”
The attorney also said that the situation is racist as it favors Arabs and Muslims over Jews, while it is the former that carry out terror attacks, Ma’ariv reported. The attorney called for the removal of the metal detectors.
Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Esther Hayut wrote in the decision, “We are convinced that the difference in the inspection methods is justified in order to maintain security and ensure arrangement of the visitors to the compound. Therefore, we reason that despite the difference in the means of inspection at the different gates, judgment by the police in this matter appears reasonable and within the  framework of the authority vested in it by the police ordinance, and therefore we found no reason to intervene. ”
