Iran has been working closely with the Open Society Foundation (OSF), founded by American billionaire George Soros, Iran’s foreign minister acknowledged Sunday, the Israel Hayom daily reported.
Addressing a question-and-answer session at the Iranian parliament, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Iran’s collaboration with the OSF predated his tenure, meaning it has been going on for at least five years.
According to a BBC report quoted by Israel Hayom, Zarif said that he has managed to “restrict and regulate it.”

By: World Israel News Staff and AP
A group of Israeli farmers, with the help of Shurat HaDin-Israel Law Center, is filing a war crimes complaint at the International Criminal Court in The Hague on Monday against Hamas over the torching of thousands of acres of farmland in recent months.
The farmers want prosecutors to investigate leaders of Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, for issuing orders to Palestinians to breach the territory’s frontier with Israel and having supporters deliberately set fire to fields in southern Israel.
“What they are trying to do is to burn us, not just our fields. It’s a war crime and a crime against humanity,” farmer Ofer Lieberman told Israeli Army Radio ahead of his arrival at The Hague.
Arson attacks have been a nearly daily occurrence since the beginning of Hamas’s “March of Return” campaign in March.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his appreciation for the visit as well as for the Philippines’ support at the UN for the establishment of the State of Israel and its willingness to take in Jewish refugees before World War II.
Netanyahu noted three “important agreements” that will be signed during the visit – to increase scientific cooperation, encourage bilateral investments and enable more Filipino caregivers to come to Israel.

“They asked me if I believe in a confederation with Jordan. I said ‘yes, I want a triple confederation with Jordan and with Israel,'” Abbas said.
By: Yona Schnitzer, TPS
Senior White House adviser Jared Kushner presented a proposal to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to establish a confederation consisting of Jordan and the Palestinian Authority as part of United States President Donald Trump’s Middle East peace plan, Abbas told a delegation of Israeli lawmakers and Peace Now activists in Ramallah on Sunday.
Abbas was referring to a meeting he attended in August 2017 with Kushner and US special envoy Jason Greenblatt. According to Abbas, he told the Americans that he would agree to a confederation only if Israel were a part of it as well.
“They asked me if I believe in a confederation with Jordan. I said ‘yes, I want a triple confederation with Jordan and with Israel.’ I asked them if Israel would agree to such a proposal,” said Abbas, who accused the United States of being “hostile toward the Palestinians and [putting an end to] the peace process.”

Blasts from area of military airport shake Damascus; Syria denies Israeli airstrike

Blasts from area of military airport shake Damascus; Syria denies Israeli airstrike(Hassan Ammar/AP/File)
Syria denies an Israeli attack after powerful blasts shook the capital, says explosions were caused by a short circuit.
By: AP
A string of powerful blasts from the direction of a military airport in Damascus lit up the skies and shook the capital city in the early morning hours on Sunday, residents and state TV reported.
The explosions were seen and heard coming from the direction of the Mezzeh airport, southwest of the capital. The airport has been targeted in a number of airstrikes in recent years that the government has blamed on Israel.
The state-run Al-Ikhbariya TV station showed what appeared to be hand-held footage shot by residents of the capital capturing a string of bright explosions lighting up the night sky.
The TV station reported, citing an unnamed military source, that the explosions did not come from inside the airport but from a nearby munitions depot. The station said an electrical short circuit was to blame, and reported that emergency services were at the scene.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said the explosions came from inside the Mezzeh air base and said they were likely caused by an Israeli missile strike.

On Friday, the US announced it “will not make additional contributions to UNRWA,” the UN Agency that has served Palestinian interests exclusively for the past 70 tears.
By: World Israel News Staff
The US State Department issued a statement on Friday confirming reports that circulated earlier in the week regarding the Trump administration’s intention to cut all funding to UNRWA, the Palestinians’ dedicated United Nations agency.
The cut means that the US will not provide an additional $300 million in funds this year. Until now, the US had furnished close to a third of all UNRWA’s budget.
“When we made a U.S. contribution of $60 million in January, we made it clear that the United States was no longer willing to shoulder the very disproportionate share of the burden of UNRWA’s costs that we had assumed for many years,” explained State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert on Friday.
“[T]he fundamental business model and fiscal practices that have marked UNRWA for years – tied to UNRWA’s endlessly and exponentially expanding community of entitled beneficiaries – is simply unsustainable and has been in crisis mode for many years. The United States will no longer commit further funding to this irredeemably flawed operation,” added Nauert.

Anti-Semitism in France has moved ‘from streets into homes,’ says French Jewish leaderCRIF head Francis Kalifat (Screenshot)
“What used to be attacks on buildings or insults thrown in the street has evolved into the most violent acts,” CRIF head Francis Kalifat said.
By: Ben Cohen, The Algemeiner
Anti-Semitism in France has moved “from the streets directly into the homes of Jewish people,” the head of the country’s 465,000-strong Jewish community told The Algemeiner on Wednesday.
“The Jews in France feel threatened in their own homes,” Francis Kalifat — president of CRIF, the French Jewish communal body — said during a discussion of the anti-Semitism that has resulted in several deaths and injuries among French Jews over the past decade.
Kalifat underlined that “what used to be attacks on buildings, or insults thrown in the street, has evolved into the most violent acts.”
In the last eighteen months, two elderly Jewish widows in Paris — Sarah Halimi in April 2017 and Mireille Knoll in March 2018 — have been murdered in brutal anti-Semitic assaults, while several incidents of violent raids on Jewish homes involving gangs of mainly Muslim youths have also been reported.

Israel is determined “to prevent Iran from establishing a military presence in Syria and will not relent…just as we did not relent in bringing about the cancellation of the bad nuclear agreement with Iran,” Netanyahu stated.
By: World Israel News Staff
At the renaming ceremony for the Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Iran that it will not achieve its goal to destroy the Jewish state.
In 2016, shortly after the passing of late Prime Minister Shimon Peres, who had been in charge of the center in the 1950s, Netanyahu announced that he would name the nuclear facility in Dimona after him.
“He was very active in establishing this important project for Israel’s security for generations, and I think that it’s appropriate and right to name the compound after him,” Netanyahu said at the time.
At the ceremony Wednesday, the Israeli leader stressed Israel’s military capabilities, adding that only through strength can peace be achieved and that Peres well understood that reality.

Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif responded to Prime Minister Netanyahu’s statement Wednesday evening in which he warned the Islamic Republic against seeking Israel’s destruction.
At a renaming ceremony for the Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center in Dimona on Wednesday, Netanyahu stressed Israel’s military capabilities, adding that only through strength can peace be achieved.

The US lent strong support to Egypt’s efforts to negotiate a ceasefire between Hamas in Gaza and Israel and a reconciliation deal between the Palestinian factions, while stating that the Palestinian Authority (PA) “cannot criticize from the sidelines.”
Jason Greenblatt, Special Representative for International Negotiations to US President Donald Trump, issued a statement on Wednesday in which the Trump Administration stated that it “strongly supports the efforts of [Egyptian] President [Abdel Fatah] Al Sisi and the Egyptian government ‎to help facilitate an agreement to restore calm in Gaza and bring about the conditions for the Palestinian Authority to fully assume its responsibilities in Gaza.”

Sinwar says that a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is not dependent on a Fatah-Hamas unity pact.
By: World Israel News Staff
Hamas’ Gaza-based leader, Yahya Sinwar, declared Wednesday that “calm” in the Strip was feasible without reconciliation with the terror group’s Fatah rivals in the Palestinian Authority, while at the same time issuing a number of serious threats to Israel.
Sinwar’s remarks were reported by the Shehab News Agency, which disseminates the terror group’s propaganda, and included claims that Hamas could launch the same number of missiles within five minutes that it launched during the 51 days of 2014’s Operation Protective Edge.
“Hamas does not want a military confrontation with [Israel], but at the same time we do not fear it. [Hamas] has equipped itself well in recent years, and the results that can be achieved in any future confrontation will be impressive,” claimed Sinwar.

According to a report in the Washington Post on Thursday, the Trump administration will announce in the next few weeks that it is cancelling all US funding for the Palestinians’ dedicated UN agency.
By: World Israel News
On Thursday, the Washington Post reported that President Donald Trump’s administration will make an announcement within the next several weeks that the US is halting all financial support for UNRWA, the United Nations agency created to serve Palestinian interests.
The administration has remained critical of UNRWA, with Trump senior Jared Kushner writing in an email in January, “It is important to have an honest and sincere effort to disrupt UNRWA, … [which] perpetuates a status quo, is corrupt, inefficient and doesn’t help peace,” reported Foreign Policy.
According to Trump administration officials who spoke to the Post on condition of anonymity, UNRWA will need to change both its rules and methods of operation if it seeks any additional funding from the US.

Facing legal action, two Spanish cities reversed “discriminatory” boycott resolutions targeting Israel.
By: Shiri Moshe, The Algemeiner
Two Spanish cities repealed boycott resolutions targeting Israel this month, according to an advocacy group that has called the measures unconstitutional.
Councillors from Villarrobledo in Castile-La Mancha voted last week to scrap a motion passed in April 2017 that declared the city “free of Israeli apartheid,” and extended support to the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) campaign, which seeks to redefine Israel “as a pariah state” until it complies with Palestinian demands.
The repeal — supported by the conservative People’s Party (PP) and the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) — came in the wake of a lawsuit filed by the Spanish pro-Israel group ACOM, which warned that the resolution unlawfully discriminated against “any Israeli citizen or company, and any Spanish individual associated with Israel.”
These characterizations were rejected by supporters of the BDS resolution, including councilor Mario de la Ossa from the far-left anti-austerity Podemos party, who first introduced the measure. He was among a group of nine Spanish public officials who traveled to the West Bank last month in a trip organized by the Spanish Network Against the Occupation of Palestine (RESCOP), which sought to bolster support for the BDS’s campaign’s “Spaces Free of Israeli Apartheid” initiative.

In response Iran’s stated determination to remain in Syria, a senior government official announced Israel’s intention to apply pressure, militarily and diplomatically, on the Islamic Republic.
By: World Israel News Staff
After Iran and Syria announced a new military cooperation agreement on Monday, through which Iran will play a leading role in shaping the Syrian military, a senior Israeli official declared Tuesday that the Jewish state is determined to force Iran to retreat.
According to the official, the IDF will “act with full determination against Iran’s attempts to transfer military forces and weapons systems to Syria,” reported Haaretz.
The official also noted that Israel would continue to apply political pressure on Iran through diplomatic channels, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu placing the struggle to push Iran out of Syria near the top of the nation’s list of priorities.
Iran for its part has remained a key ally of Syria’s brutal dictator, Bashar al-Assad, who has managed to maintain his grip on power throughout seven and a half years of bloody civil war. Iran’s support has been indispensable in Assad’s efforts, and in return the Islamic Republic has established a palpable military presence close to Syria’s border with Israel.

Shin Bet exposes largely female Hamas terror cell in HebronIDF raid in Hebron (Wisam Hashlamoun/Flash90/File)
The Shin Bet uncovered a large-scale Hamas operation in Hebron, the security agency revealed on Tuesday.
The Israel Security Agency – with the assistance of the IDF and the Israel Police – in recent weeks uncovered an extensive Hamas network in Hebron, which included several women who operated in secret at the behest of Hamas command centers abroad and in the Gaza Strip.
The network was used – inter alia – to transfer messages and instructions, transfer funds to finance terrorist operations and coordinate operations with the aforesaid command centers.
The ISA investigation revealed that the network promoted Hamas activity in Hebron, including the recruitment of operatives, coordinating activity at mosques, preaching and increasing support, disseminating online information and incitement and assisting the families of prisoners. The network also tried to take control of municipal activities in Hebron and manage the activities of charitable institutions in the city.
The network was led by Nazar Shehada and Faris Abu Serah, well-known senior Hamas operatives who served various prison sentences for Hamas activities. They used several women who established a central committee to serve as the command center’s operational arm.

Despite a government ban on providing health care to Hamas family members, the Supreme Court ordered the IDF to admit five close relatives of Hamas terrorists for treament.
By: JNS.org
Israel’s Supreme Court ordered the Israel Defense Forces on Sunday to admit five critically ill women who are close relatives of Hamas terrorists for urgent medical treatment, despite a government ban on providing health care to Hamas relatives.
The women appealed to the Supreme Court last month after Israel rejected their requests for entry.
Israel enacted a policy of denying entry for medical treatment to relatives of Hamas members in order to pressure the group to stop engaging in acts of terror and to release the bodies of two Israeli soldiers who were taken during the 2014 Gaza War as well as two Israeli citizens who are being held captive.
The women were represented by Gisha, an organization that works for Palestinian freedom of movement; Adalah, a Palestinian legal-rights organization; El Meza, a Gaza-based Palestinian-rights organization; and Physicians for Human Rights Israel, a medical-rights organization that asserts its rejection of the “ongoing occupation of the Palestinian Territory.”

In a major decision for residents of a Jewish community in Samaria, the Jerusalem District Court on Tuesday paved the way to legal status for the homes of around 40 families, and potentially thousands more in similar communities.
The case involves the community of Mitzpe Kramim in the Binaymin Region of Samaria, around 45 minutes from Jerusalem, which sits on the edge of a larger community, Kochav Hashachar, which houses 400 families.
On Tuesday, Judge Arnon Darel ruled that due to Mitzpe Kramim residents’ good faith in establishing their community, and the state’s role helping them to do so, the government cannot force residents to leave their homes.
When Mitzpe Kramim was established in 1999, the residents acquired the land from government authorities, who said that they had the right to transfer the land.

Analysis: The Hamas-Fatah power struggle and what it means for Israel

Analysis: The Hamas-Fatah power struggle and what it means for IsraelPalestinians dressed as Fatah's Mahmoud Abbas (R) and Hamas' Ismail Haniyeh.
Israel’s increased dealings with Hamas are rooted in a pragmatic policy that prioritizes an attainable truce over an unattainable peace.
By: Daniel Krygier, World Israel News
After many rounds of failed reconciliation talks, the gulf between Fatah and Hamas appears to be growing despite Egypt’s strong efforts to end the dispute between the two political rivals. What does this mean for Israel and the international efforts to solve the seemingly intractable Arab-Israeli conflict?
Israel has for years vowed not to have any dealings with Hamas. While the Islamist organization openly seeks Israel’s destruction, it has also been controlling the volatile Gaza Strip since 2007. These harsh realities on the ground have forced Jerusalem to shed political purity in favor of pragmatism.

Iran claims it recruited minister from ‘hostile government,’ possibly referring to Israel

Iran claims it recruited minister from ‘hostile government,’ possibly referring to IsraelIranian Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi (Screenshot)
“Awhile ago, you heard that we had (recruited) a member of the cabinet of a hostile country,” Alavi said.
By: Yona Schnitzer/TPS
Iran recruited a cabinet member of “hostile government” as an agent, Iranian Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi said, Iranian media reported Tuesday.
“Thank God, the Intelligence Ministry’s Anti-Espionage Unit is one of the strongest units of the ministry and one of the strongest in intelligence services in the world,” Alavi told the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) on Tuesday night.
“A while ago, you heard that we had (recruited) a member of the cabinet of a hostile country.”
While Alavi did not specifically state which country, Iranian media outlets are speculating that he was referring to Israel and noted that his comments came four months after the arrest of former Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Gonen Segev, who is currently facing charges of acting as an Iranian agent.
In June, the Shin Bet (Israel’s Security Agency) announced it had arrested Segev a month earlier and that the former minister was being charged with aiding the enemy in time of war and espionage against the state of Israel.

“How dare you tell a Jew that their outrage is ‘patently synthetic’? What other minority would you speak to this way?” the famous author tweeted in reponse to a post slamming British Jews.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
JK Rowling, the billionaire author of the best-selling Harry Potter fantasy series, has taken to Twitter over the past several days to bash a well-published British writer who attacked British Jews over their concerns about anti-Semitism in the Labour Party.
Last month, after continuous scandals concerning racism and anti-Semitism in the party, three British Jewish newspapers published a joint editorial issuing a powerful warning of the “existential” threat that Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who has compared Israeli policies with Nazism and expressed support for radical Islamists seeking Israel’s destruction, poses to British Jewry.
Simon Maginn, a British author of several comedies and thrillers, criticized Jewish anti-Corbynites who have not accepted the Labor party leader’s various ‘explanations. and ‘clarifications’ of his conduct and comments.
For example, on Sunday, Maginn tweeted, “Explain it to me, then. Explain your deep and wounding sense of injury. Explain the wrong that’s been done to you. Explain your patently synthetic outrage. Explain yourself. Publicly.”

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of John McCain, a great American patriot and a great supporter of Israel,” Netanyahu stated.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
Longtime Republican Senator John McCain, 81, died late Saturday night just over a year after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. On Friday, his family announced that he would stop all medical treatment due the progression of the disease and to his advanced age.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu led the top political echelon in Israel in mourning the Vietnam War hero as a steadfast friend of Israel.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of John McCain, a great American patriot and a great supporter of Israel. I will always treasure the constant friendship he showed to the people of Israel and to me personally. His support for Israel never wavered. It sprang from his belief in democracy and freedom. The State of Israel salutes John McCain,” he said in statement Sunday morning.
President Reuven Rivlin called McCain “a great leader, a defender of his people, a man of strong values.”
It was those values that inspired him to stand by Israel throughout his career, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) stressed, lamenting that “the pro-Israel community has lost a stalwart friend.”

Iranian defense minister visits Syria to ‘strengthen cooperation’

In what appears to be a show of defiance against the US and Israel, Iranian Minister Hatami is visiting Israel in order to “strengthen cooperation and the axis of resistance.”
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami landed Sunday in Syria for a series of meetings with the country’s top echelon, including President Bashar al Assad, to discuss further strengthening the ties between the two allies.
Joint military actions such as an operation against rebels in the northern Idlib region are on the agenda, as well as the supply of aid to rehabilitate areas already retaken by regime forces, Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported.
This two-day visit by a large military delegation follows highly publicized meetings that US National Security Adviser John Bolton held both in Israel and with his Russian counterpart last week on the issue of removing Iranian forces and its proxies from Syria as soon as possible.

New York’s ‘last Nazi’ is finally deported to GermanyNazi war criminal Jakiw Palij (Youtube/Screenshot)
Jakiw Palij may have been low down in the hierarchy, but he was present during “a daylong killing spree of unfathomable ruthlessness and horror,” when 6,000 Jewish women, men and children were massacred.
By: Ben Cohen, JNS.org
During my formal interview for US citizenship, not so long ago, I remember the interviewing officer looking me in the eye and asking if I’d ever had any affiliations with the Nazi German regime. “Um, er … no,” I replied, smiling a bit awkwardly. “Y’know, I’ve gotta ask,” she replied, shaking her head gently.
But 70 years ago, that was a deadly serious question—and yet it wasn’t taken very seriously by the authorities. At a time when thousands of Holocaust survivors were denied entry to the United States, thousands of Nazis and their allies—from leading regime scientists to petty (relatively speaking) local collaborators—gained entry to this country.

Leftwing activists instigated violence in Jewish community near Hebron, IDF says
DF sources say the group deliberately instigated a fight with settlers in the South Hebron Hills on the Jewish Sabbath.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
A group of six activists from a left-wing organization who came to the religious outpost of Mitzpe Yair on Saturday to photograph what they said was illegal construction got into a fight with some residents and were evacuated by the IDF, which blamed the visitors for the incident.
“This morning, a number of activists from the Ta’ayush organization came to an area where illegal Palestinian construction is taking place near Mitzpe Yair, in the Judean region,” the army’s statement read. “After the construction tools were confiscated [by the authorities], the activists moved toward the village in order to instigate a provocation, and some friction developed between them and the residents. IDF soldiers in the area declared the area a closed military zone to prevent further friction, but some of the activists refused to evacuate and violated the order.”

Opinion: Keeping the Golan – less talk, more action

While Israel is reportedly pressuring Washington to recognize the Golan Heights as Israeli territory, Jerusalem would be better served by creating realities on the ground that keep the Golan under Israeli sovereignty.
By: Daniel Krygier
During a recent visit to Israel, President Trump’s national security advisor John Bolton said that the US is currently not discussing a potential recognition of Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights. In recent months, the Netanyahu government has reportedly pressured Washington to recognize the Golan as Israeli territory.
After President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, some in Jerusalem see a window of opportunity to extend that recognition to the Golan as well. However, the future of the Golan Heights depends less on declarations from Washington and more on proactive actions from Jerusalem.
The Golan Heights remains a territory of great strategic importance for Israel. Its commanding heights overlook much of northern Israel and Israel’s crucial fresh water supply in the Sea of Galilee is fed with streams originating in the Golan. Israeli forces captured the Golan Heights from Syria during the Six Day War in 1967.

German chancellor Merkel to visit Israel in October

In a visit that will likely involve discussions on the Iranian nuclear threat, Merkel is scheduled to to visit Israel in early October.
By: World Israel News Staff
German German Chancellor Angela Merkel will make her first visit to Israel in almost four years this October, against a backdrop of uncertainty related to the crumbling 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
Following US President Donald Trump’s announcement that the US was exiting the deal, the European Union and its member states communicated their intent to maintain the nuclear agreement, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized consistently for its failure to staunch the Islamic Republic’s nuclear ambitions or address its regional aggression and control of terror proxies, including Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Countries such as Germany, France and Britain, however, have pledged to keep the deal alive, notwithstanding US sanctions against Iran, a leading state-sponsor or terror, and those who do business with Iranian entities.

Report: Trump to oppose Palestinian ‘Right of Return’

Report: Trump to oppose Palestinian ‘Right of Return’US President Donald Trump and PA leader Mahmoud Abbas. (AP/Evan Vucci, File)
The US leader will officially oppose the Palestinian claim of a “Right of Return” for five million Palestinian “refugees” to the State of Israel.
By: World Israel News Staff
President Donald Trump will announce the US rejection of the Palestinian “Right of Return” in the next several days, Israel’s Hadashot TV reported Saturday.
The Palestinians claim refugee status for five million people, which includes millions of descendants of the approximately 700,000 original refugees who were living in British Mandatory Palestine, or what is now the State of Israel, and were displaced during the 1948 War of Independence.
These descendants of refugees, supported by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNRWA), live in Judea and Samaria, the Gaza Strip, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.
The majority of the original refugees are no longer alive.
“UNRWA is unique in terms of its long-standing commitment to one group of refugees. It has contributed to the welfare and human development of four generations of Palestine refugees, defined as ‘persons whose normal place of residence was Palestine during the period 1 June 1946 to 15 May 1948, and who lost both home and means of livelihood as a result of the 1948 conflict.’ The descendants of Palestine refugee males, including legally adopted children, are also eligible for registration,” the Agency states on its website.
The Trump administration has challenged UNRWA’s mandate, suggesting that UN funding instead go to the UN body responsible for all other refugees.

Netanyahu: No urgency for Trump to present peace planPM Benjamin Netanyahu (YouTube/Screenshot)
“It’s his issue if he wants to promote it,” Netanyahu said of Trump’s long-awaited Israeli-Palestinian peace plan, saying he sees no rush.
By: The Algemeiner
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he saw no pressing need for US President Donald Trump to unveil his long-awaited Middle East peace plan.
“It’s his issue if he wants to promote it,” Netanyahu told reporters during his ongoing visit to Lithuania. “From time to time he says things about it, and it can come, even though I don’t see urgency in this matter.”
Questioned about the Palestinians’ refusal to engage with the Trump administration on the peace issue, Netanyahu stated, “The Americans are thinking about it, they’re not blind, but I don’t know — when they propose it, we’ll see.”
Trump has spoken a number of times of his desire to broker the “deal of the century” between Israel and the Palestinians.
Earlier this week, at a rally in West Virginia, the president said Israel would have to pay a “higher price” in peace talks with the Palestinians due to America’s recognition of Jerusalem as the Jewish state’s capital last year.

The Israeli prime minister lauded the announcement by major international airlines to cease direct flights to Tehran starting in September.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on a trip Thursday to Lithuania, welcomed the decision by major international airlines to end their direct flights to Iran’s capital of Tehran in September.
The decision by British Airways and Air France came after U.S. President Donald Trump withdrew from the nuclear deal between Iran and began restoring U.S. sanctions. The move has been exacerbating a financial crisis in Iran that has sent its currency tumbling.
British Airways said its last flight to Tehran will be Sept. 22, with the return on Sept. 23, while Air France said it would end flights from Paris to Tehran on Sept. 18.
Netanyahu spoke hours after arriving in Lithuania for a four-day visit in which he will also meet his Latvian and Estonian counterparts.
“That’s good. More should follow, more will follow, because Iran should not be rewarded for its aggression in the region, for its attempts to spread terrorism,” Netanyahu told a news conference.

Palestinian Leaders Fume Over Trump’s Jerusalem Comments
August 23, 2018

A PLO Executive Committee member lashed out at the US president for claiming that he had taken Jerusalem off the negotiating table.
By: Yona Schnitzer/TPS
Donald Trump’s recent comments on Jerusalem are “worthless,” Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee member Ahmad al-Tamimi said Wednesday in response to remarks by the U.S. President who said that he had taken the capital “off the table.”
Trump’s remarks are “a continuation of US policies in favor of Israel, as well as the American administration’s illusions about the applicability of the so-called deal of the century without recognizing [the eastern portion of] Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state,” al-Tamimi said.
Al-Tamimi reiterated Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ absolute rejection of the American administration’s yet-to-be-submitted peace plan, the so-called “deal of the century,” stating that “absolutely no Palestinian would accept it.”
Former Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat also rejected Trump’s comments, telling the Israel Broadcasting Corporation’s Kan News that as long as Jerusalem remains off the negotiating table, there would be no chance for peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
Responding to comments by Trump that Israel “would pay a very high price” for his decision earlier this year to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Erekat said the attempt to appease the Palestinians “would not work.”
Trump, Erekat said, is the one that complicated matters by moving the embassy, adding that it would not be realistic to talk about peace without designating the eastern portion of Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital. “When someone says to me that Jerusalem is off the table, it’s as if they were telling me that my lungs are being removed from my body, but that I will continue to live a good life,” said Erekat.
“We already recognized Israel’s right to exist within the ‘67 borders with peace and security.

Moreover, 620 of them will have to undergo additional rounds of permissions before final approval is attained.
In addition, the report said that plans to legalize an outpost in the Gush Etzion bloc and an educational institution’s compound near Kfar Adumim were shelved at the last moment following an order from the political echelon.

Israel’s Environmental Protection Ministry is warning Israelis to protect themselves from insect bites after reporting that 67 people have been hospitalized with West Nile virus.
An 18-year-old resident of Israel’s south is in critical condition, with another six people listed in serious condition from the mosquito-transmitted disease.
Tests this week confirmed that some mosquitoes in the coastal areas of Pardes Hannah, Binyamina, Caesarea and the Haifa area ( Menashe Regional Council and Alona Regional Council) were carriers of the virus.
Peak season for the illness in Israel is between August and October, with an incubation period in people of three to 15 days.
Symptoms include fever, rashes and headaches, but complications could also include meningitis.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), most people infected with WNV do not have symptoms. About 1 in 5 people who are infected develop a fever and other symptoms. About 1 out of 150 infected people develop a serious, sometimes fatal, illness.

Opinion: Plea to Gal Gadot

Opinion: Plea to Gal GadotIsraeli actress Gal Gadot (Chris Pizzello/Invision/AP)
Gal Gadot’s decision to play Lisa Howard, a Jewish-American journalist who became an unabashed apologist for Fidel Castro, should be used as an opportunity to reveal the evil of the Cuban regime.
 By: Henry Roth
I’m not ashamed to admit it: I love Gal Gadot.  A strong, beautiful woman, star of some terrific action movies, a proud Israeli, what’s not to like?  And if I seemed like a giddy fan-boy before, my admiration for Ms. Gadot rose into the stratosphere when I heard that she would be making a film about the life of Hedy Lamarr, a true Jewish heroine.  Ms. Lamarr was a beautiful and successful actress, but more importantly, she was also a brilliant scientist whose discoveries in the area of telecommunications played a vital role in defeating the Nazis.  Truly a fabulous role model for women everywhere and a life worthy of being recorded for posterity.
But just minutes after visiting the tattoo parlor to have her name permanently etched on my body, I learned that Ms. Gadot is also planning to make a film about Lisa Howard, a Jewish-American journalist who became Fidel Castro’s lover and unabashed apologist.
Two thumbs up to Ms. Gadot if she is intending to expose both Ms. Howard’s wilful blindness to Castro’s repressive police state as well as the liberal proclivity to whitewash the crimes of ‘enlightened’ socialist states, but given that Ms. Gadot has been immersed for some time now in the progressive quagmire that is Hollywood, I’m worried that the film will glorify this “complicated, fascinating woman” (Gadot’s own description of Howard).  I suppose the same adjectives could apply to Eva Braun or Tokyo Rose or Aileen Wuornos (you might have to look up that one).

By: AP
Germany’s foreign minister is calling for Europe to create a payments system independent of the United States, a move that could help keep alive the nuclear deal with Iran following the withdrawal of the US.
Minister Heiko Maas’ suggestion was part of a wider-ranging piece for Wednesday’s edition of the daily Handelsblatt on Germany’s future strategy toward the US. He said he envisions Europe taking a “balanced share of responsibility” and being “a counterbalance when the US crosses red lines.”
Chancellor Angela Merkel responded cautiously, noting that cooperation with Washington is important in combating terror financing.
Though Maas conceded that the US and Europe have been drifting apart since well before Donald Trump’s presidency, he criticized recent decisions such as Trump’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal.

By: Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
A man went on a stabbing rampage in the French town of Trappes Thursday morning, leaving two people dead before being neutralized by the police.
The British Daily Express reported a security source saying that the assailant “disappeared into a house when police arrived at the scene, and when he came out he was shot.”
The attacker was said to be in his thirties, and has reportedly been known to the French security services for the last two years. However, the police have so far only said that the motive for the attack was “under investigation.”
Meanwhile, Reuters reported that Islamic State issued a statement claiming that one of its members was responsible for the attack, although it provided no proof.
The last knife attack in Paris by an Islamic terrorist occurred just over three months ago. On May 12, a 21-year-old Chechnyan-born French Muslim killed one pedestrian and wounded several others near the Opera House before being gunned down by police. The man, identified as Khamzat Azimov, had been on a counter-terrorism watch list since 2016.

The Samarian town of Beit El will soon include a vastly larger new neighborhood, totaling 650 units instead of the original 300 it was promised six years ago, according to a report in Israel Hayom Tuesday.
The prime minister made an agreement with the town’s leaders in 2012 to compensate them for the demolition of 30 homes when the court ruled that they were built on private Palestinian property. The residents left without putting up the kind of active resistance that has occurred in similar situations.
In a place where not a single house has been built in almost a decade in a de facto building freeze, the building of hundreds of new homes is welcome news.

Israel’s Channel 10 reported that Mahmoud Abbas’ son met with Jason Greenblatt about a year ago, expressing deep doubts about the continued viability of a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

According to a report by Israel’s Channel 10 news, Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas’ son, Tareq, met secretly with President Trump’s Mideast envoy Jason Greenblatt on the sidelines of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly about one year ago.
Details of the meeting were provided by senior Israeli officials.
During the meeting, Abbas’ son reportedly expressed support for a one-state solution, communicating that a two-solution is simply no longer possible. Instead, he reportedly advocates one-state with equal rights for all, regardless of ethnicity or religion.

The US Justice Department on Monday filed an indictment against two Iranians for spying on Israeli and Jewish targets on Tehran’s behalf.
The indictment charges Ahmadreza Mohammadi-Doostdar, 38, a dual US-Iranian citizen, and Majid Ghorbani, 59, an Iranian citizen and resident of California, with acting on behalf of the Islamic Republic by conducting covert surveillance of Israeli and Jewish facilities in the US.
They are also charged with collecting identifying information about American citizens and US nationals who are members of the group Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK- People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran), an Iranian political organization in exile that advocates the overthrow of the current government in Iran.

With the new guidelines, many more Israelis will be able to carry arms and defend civilians against terrorists.
By: World Israel News Staff
Minister of Interior Security Gilad Erdan approved a plan to increase the number of weapons licenses in Israel through a change in the gun licensing laws that will enable hundreds of thousands of veterans of the IDF’s infantry units to obtain a weapons license.
Erdan signed off on the new guidelines that would allow the number of arms license holders in Israel to significantly increase.
According to the new rules, officers and commanders would not be required to return their weapons upon release from active reserve duty and could request to continue carrying them.
As a result of the new policy, the number of skilled weapons-carriers in the public sphere will increase by over half a million with veterans of the security forces and thousands of volunteers from the Israel Police and rescue organizations.

By: Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, a senior member of Iran’s leadership, warned the United States and Israel that both would pay a “heavy” cost if the US goes to war with his country, reported the Iranian Tasnim News Agency on Wednesday.
Speaking to attendees of a Tehran mosque who were celebrating the Eid al-Adha holiday, the hard-line cleric said, “The costs of a possible US war on Iran will be definitely heavy for Americans, and any aggression against Iran will inflict costs not only on America, but also on its ally, the Zionist regime.”
His remarks come only a day after Iran claimed it revealed its first domestically-produced jet fighter. Shortly after the unveiling, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Arabic spokesman, Ofir Gendelman, tweeted that the jet bore an uncanny resemblance to the US F-5 jet, which was produced in the 1950s.
Iran’s unchecked ballistic missile development program, which it claims it needs for defensive purposes, was one of the top items on the agenda this week in the talks between US National Security Adviser John Bolton and Netanyahu.

“The US embassy ought to be in the capital city of the country which is accredited as the right and natural thing to do, and it’s not an issue of quid pro quo,” Bolton said of the US embassy move to Jerusalem.
By: World Israel News Staff and AP
President Donald Trump’s national security adviser says there’s no timetable for releasing the administration’s much-anticipated Mideast peace plan and that the move of the US embassy from to Jerusalem was a principled move that was not made in return for Israeli concessions.
John Bolton said Wednesday in Jerusalem at a press conference to sum up his three-day work visit in Israel that a “lot of progress” has been made, but he refused to speculate what the plan entailed or when it may be publicized. The Trump administration recently began staffing its Mideast policy team ahead of the plan’s expected release.

Republicans are more likely than Democrats to have a positive opinion of Israel’s prime minister.
By: World Israel News Staff
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu viewed favorably among the American public, a new Gallup poll shows.
The poll, published Tuesday, asked Americans how they viewed the leaders of six of the United States’ closest allies.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau earned the highest favorable ratings with 48 percent, Great Britain’s Theresa May ranked next with 46 percent, German Chancellor Angela Merkel received 39 percent and Netanyahu came in fourth at 37 percent.
Sadly, between 28 and 35 percent of Americans have never heard of or have no opinion about these leaders.
Netanyahu’s favorable rating is similar to Gallup’s last several results, taken between 1999 and 2015. He was viewed more positively in the US in December 1998 after signing a US-brokered peace treaty with the Palestinians known as the Wye agreement, but quickly returned to the 35 percent range.

Under the leadership of Britain’s opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn, anti-Semitism and hatred of Israel has increasingly become mainstream in the UK’s left-leaning Labour party.
By: Daniel Krygier
Britain’s leftist opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn has compared Israeli policies with Nazism and expressed support for Islamist radicals seeking Israel’s destruction.
Corbyn is not breaking any new ground with his radical opinions of Israel. Anti-Semitism expressed through anti-Zionism has thrived for decades at the fringes of the political left. However, under the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn, deep hostility towards the Jewish state has increasingly spread from the fringes to the mainstream left in Britain and in other Western democracies.
Corbyn, who until recently was frequently ridiculed by his political opponents, could potentially become Britain’s next prime minister. What does the rise of Corbyn mean for future British-Israeli relations and the Jewish people?

A ceremony at Israel’s newest medical school on Sunday was attended by Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, Education Minister Naftali Bennett and Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman, as well as backers of the school American Jewish billionaire Sheldon Adelson and his wife, Dr. Miriam Adelson.
Ariel University, home to the new medical school, has faced serious attack by the BDS movement, which has attempted to get the university and its academic staff boycotted in institutions of higher education around the world.
“When others rolled their eyes, you all built,” said Rivlin at the ceremony. “When others boycotted, you proved that an excellent academy could be established here—an academy that has room for every student, regardless of race, color, religion or gender.”
Ariel University has been the subject of multiple boycotts by academics, including by dozens of radical-left Israelis, because of its location.

Opinion: ‘Fauda’ and the two-state scenario

The obstacle to peace remains Palestinian ideology, not how many settlers can be evicted from their homes.
By: Jonathan S. Tobin, JNS.org
In the international hit Israeli TV series “Fauda,” the head of the Palestinian Authority security service is a fictional character named Abu Maher. Played by Qader Harini, an Arab actor from eastern Jerusalem, Abu Maher is reconciled to peace and coexistence, and therefore willing to cooperate with the Israelis to combat Islamist terror.
In an episode of the show’s second season (this is not a spoiler for the main plot line, so you can keep reading even if you haven’t watched the series), Abu Maher takes his son—a student who sympathizes with Hamas—to lunch on the Jaffa beach inside Israel. He tells the youngster to look at the skyscrapers of neighboring Tel Aviv. Those mighty buildings and the industry, creativity, power and wealth they represent, he says, show the permanence of Israel. The Jews are interested in life rather than death, and since they can’t be defeated, Abu Maher believes that the Palestinians must choose peace.
I’m sure I’m far from the only audience member who saw that scene and pondered what life would be like if the actual head of the P.A. was someone like the fictional Abu Maher, instead of Mahmoud Abbas or the other real-life Fatah functionaries who are still fixated on the century-old war against Zionism (in which they have yet to admit defeat). With such a person leading the Palestinians, a two-state solution might indeed be possible.

Media Celebrate Trump Mishandling $280k. Forget Obama Mishandled $88 Million.

Another day, another “we’ve got him now. No, really, we’ve really, truly, madly, deeply got him, now!” series of headlines from the establishment media about President Donald Trump.
This time the focus is on campaign finance.
And once again, voters are left to their own devices to figure out what the truth really is and if there actually is a crime involved. Add to that the way the establishment media addressed the topic when President Barack Obama was involved in similar “scandals,” and you have more evidence as to why the establishment media outlets are so often called “fake news.”

Abbas calls to step up ‘popular resistance’ against Israel
 August 19, 2018
Abbas calls to step up ‘popular resistance’ against Israel Palestinian Authority head Mahmoud Abbas (AP/Majdi Mohammed)
Palestinians must “keep the ground aflame with popular resistance” against Israel, Abbas stated.
By: World Israel News Staff
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said that “popular resistance” should be the only means of struggle towards independence and statehood.
“Popular resistance” usually indicates the use of rocks and firebombs against Israelis rather than more advanced weapons, such as guns.
Speaking during the closing session of the 29th meeting of the Palestinian Central Council (PCC) held on Friday in Ramallah, Abbas said that the Palestinians “should not underestimate it [popular resistance]” and must “keep the ground aflame with popular resistance” against Israel.
He called for further visits to the illegally built Beduin village of Khan al-Ahmar, east of Jerusalem, which is facing a court-ordered demolition by Israel.
“Everyone, officials and the public, should be going to Khan al-Ahmar. Our goal now must be to stay there and not allow them [the Israelis] to set up their project, because we know that they will tear apart the West Bank if they take over that area. This is a critical issue that we must keep in mind,” he stated, according to the official Palestinian WAFA news agency.
The location of the illegal structures is hazardous due to its proximity to a major highway. Khan al Ahmar is adjacent and overlooking the highway that connects Jerusalem to the south of Israel in a strategic area that bisects the country.
The residents, the Jahalin Bedouin, are an offshoot of a larger tribe based in southern Israel in the Arad region. After a blood feud broke out within the tribe, some of the families were forced out and migrated north through the Judean desert, arriving and settling in their present location after the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
Their battle for the land is part of a PA and European Union-orchestrated program of creating strategically located outposts that undermine the basis of the Oslo Accords.
By creating “placeholder” encampments in strategic points throughout Area C of Judea and Samaria, the PA has circumvented the process of negotiation.

By: World Israel News Staff
Hundreds of residents of communities surrounding the Gaza Strip protested Saturday night at Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square regarding the ongoing Hamas-led rocket and arson attacks against Israel’s south.
Demonstrators marched with signs reading, “We are not cannon fodder,” “Our children’s childhood has been stolen,” and “Wake up, the entire south is burning,” demanding the government act to ensure their security.
The protesters launched fake incendiary balloons, sounded a siren and lay down on the ground, showing how they have been living under continuous attack from Gaza.
Over the course of the past four months, Hamas terrorists have launched thousands of incendiary devices into Israeli territory, resulting in the destruction of more than 7,400 acres of land, hundreds of acres of wheat fields and 2,700 acres of protected nature reserves.
Over 1,000 incendiary devices were sent across the border, leading to more than 750 fires –an average of 11 per day. Not only has the cost of damage exceeded $3 million, but it will take years to reverse the ecological damage caused by Hamas.
Also in recent months, Hamas terrorists have launched hundreds of rockets and mortars and communities surrounding the Strip.

The Israeli Police ardently defended their officers for shooting an Israeli-Arab man who attempted to attack them in Jerusalem’s Old City.
Ahmad Muhammad Mahamid from the northern Israeli town of Umm al-Fahm tried to stab a policeman on Friday before being shot dead.
His family later revealed that he was mentally ill and criticized the police for using lethal force in response to the attack.
The police do not agree with this assessment. According to Israel’s Channel Two, a top police source said, “No one could expect the officers to know that the terrorist attacking them with a knife was mentally ill.”
He also emphasized that a preliminary investigation into the incident showed that the officers reacted swiftly and correctly, thus preventing further casualties.

By: World Israel News Staff
The relationship between the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Egypt is “very tense” in light of PA President Mahmoud Abbas’ rejection of a possible truce between Hamas and Israel that Egypt has been mediating.
Israel and Hamas are reportedly on the brink of signing a year-long ceasefire.
An Egyptian security source said he expects the agreement will be announced next week after the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha.
The Arabic language daily al-Hayat reported Sunday that the majority of Palestinian factions in Cairo have agreed to a ceasefire with Israel, while Fatah has so far rejected it.
The Palestinian Central Council (PCC), at the end of its meetings in Ramallah on Friday night, said that a truce with Israel is “a national responsibility of the Palestine Liberation Organization as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people and not an action for the factions [from Gaza].”

Brainsway, an Israeli company that specializes in developing and providing advanced technology solutions for the treatment of a variety of brain disorders, explained that the treatment performs magnetic stimulation of the brain’s frontal lobe and its networks, targeting previously unreachable areas of the brain using its helmet-like device, which allows it to effectively treat OCD, as well as other disorders including schizophrenia and depression.
OCD is a common, chronic and long-lasting disorder in which a person has uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts and behaviors they feel the urge to repeat certain actions and behaviors over and over.

Israel slams UN chief for advocating armed UN force to protect Palestinians

Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon denounced Guterres’ suggestion that the UN should create an armed military force for the Palestinians’ benefit.
By: AP
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a new report that options for protecting Palestinian civilians range from establishing an armed military or police force to deploying civilian observers or beefing up the U.N. presence on the ground.
The U.N. chief stressed in the report circulated Friday evening that every option would require the cooperation of Israelis and Palestinians, “a sustained cessation of hostilities and additional resources.”
But the prospect of getting Israel’s consent, especially for a U.N. or non-U.N. armed force, remains highly unlikely.
Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon responded to the report by saying that “the only protection the Palestinian people need is from their own leadership.”
The Palestinian Authority “incites its people to demonize and attack Jews, and Hamas, a terrorist organization, exploits those under its control by intentionally putting them in harms way,” Danon said.

“The creation of the Iran Action Group indicates that the Trump administration seeks to mobilize all of Washington’s institutional resources to advance its maximum pressure campaign against the regime in Iran,” says analyst Tzvi Kahn.
By: Jackson Richman/JNS.org
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on Thursday the founding of the Iran Action Group, which will “be responsible for directing, reviewing and coordinating all aspects of the State Department’s Iran-related activity.”
“For nearly 40 years, the regime in Tehran has been responsible for a torrent of violent and destabilizing behavior against the United States, our allies, our partners, and indeed, the Iranian people themselves,” said Pompeo.
“Our hope is that one day soon we can reach a new agreement with Iran. But we must see major changes in the regime’s behavior, both inside and outside of its borders. The Iranian people and the world are demanding that Iran finally act like a normal nation.”
He added that “the Iran Action Group will drive daily progress on these objectives and I hope do much more.”
Benham Ben Taleblu, an Iran analyst with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), told JNS that he views the creation of the group as a positive sign that the United States is prioritizing the Iran issue.
“The need for an Iran action group—or any entity specializing in streamlining, coordinating and implementing Iran policy—is due to the challenge of balancing the myriad threats posed by the Islamic Republic, as well as the attention the president and other administration officials have rightly given to that threat,” explained Taleblu.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s wife Sara attended the annual event for Garin Tzabar in honor of approximately 300 new immigrants who will enlist in the IDF as lone soldiers – those who have no immediate family in the country – in the framework of Garin Tzabar Scouts and the Israel Scouts Tzofim Itanu program.
Members of Garin Tzabar are children of Israelis, ages 18-23, residing overseas, who choose to return to Israel in order to serve a full period of IDF service. Among them, the Tzofim Itanu members also plan to make Israel their home. Upon arrival in Israel, the group is adopted by an Israeli community in a kibbutz or a city that becomes their home away from home throughout the duration of their army service.
The event took place Thursday evening at Tel Aviv University.
“I am pleased to come here every year. Each time, like today, I am excited to welcome with a warm embrace hundreds of new immigrants who have come here in the framework of Garin Tzabar,” Ms. Netanyahu told the assembled.

New details about the ceasefire purportedly agreed upon by Israel and Hamas were revealed in a Lebanese report.
By: Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
New details emerged from the Lebanese Al Mayadeen news channel Thursday regarding the alleged ceasefire agreement being formulated between Israel and Hamas.
According to the Lebanese report, Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, would stop hostilities for a year while Israel would organize a sea route from Cyprus to Gaza under Israeli security control.
The Hezbollah-affiliated channel added that Qatar had agreed to help the Islamist government financially by paying its electric bills as well as Gaza officials’ salaries, which together make up a large portion of Hamas’ running expenses.
The UK-based Al-Hayat newspaper cited an unnamed Palestinian official as saying that the deal could be signed as early as Friday.

Israel has discovered that the EU is working on a massive transportation program for the Palestinians, including in Area C, without consulting Israel.
By: World Israel News Staff
The European Union (EU) is working on plans to construct a massive transportation grid connecting the Gaza Strip with the Palestinian Authority (PA)-administered territories in Judea and Samaria, but has not informed Israel.
Israel Radio reported Wednesday that in a discussion held two days ago in one of the subcommittees of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee headed by MK Moti Yogev, it was revealed that the EU had formulated a plan for the establishment of huge infrastructures, including in Area C, which is under full Israeli control.
According to the plan, airports and seaports will be established, and an extensive network of railways and roads will connect all parts of Judea and Samaria with the Gaza Strip.

Israel’s defense budget set for massive increase

Netanyahu presented a document to the security cabinet that details a significant increase in military spending.
By: TPS
Israel’s defense budget will be gradually increased to 6% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) over the coming years, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday as he presented a document labeled “Israel’s Security Outlook 2030” to the security cabinet.
The increase in the defense budget will total sum 0.2% to 0.3% of GDP, translating at some NIS 2-4 billion per year. Netanyahu said the defense budget will be re-examined once Israel’s GDP hits $500 billion. Israel’s GDP currently stands at some $350 billion.
The move marks a dramatic reversal in policy following decades in which the defense budget as a percentage of GDP has been in decline. In 2008 Israel spent 6.5% of GDP on defense and in 1992 the figure stood at some 15%.
The increased budget will go to the IDF, Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), Mossad and other security agencies and will go, inter alia, toward strengthening Israel’s offensive capabilities, upgrading missile defense systems, completing security barriers, the home front and cyber capabilities.

Report: Head of Egyptian intelligence visited Tel Aviv to negotiate Gaza agreement

A source in the Arabic media claims that the Head of Egyptian intelligence visited Israel on Wednesday to negotiate the Gaza ceasefire and promote a lasting solution to problems posed by the Hamas-run territory.
By: World Israel News Staff
A report in the Arabic daily newspaper Al-Hayat claimed that Egyptian Major General Abbas Kamel was in Tel Aviv on Wednesday, reportedly to discuss finalizing a truce agreement to head off further violent rioting, arson attacks and rocket strikes orchestrated by the Hamas terror group, which rules the Gaza Strip.
The Egyptian intelligence chief is attempting to broker an agreement that would also provide civilian infrastructure to Gaza, and lead to an prisoner exchange, according to Al-Hayat.
Hamas currently holds several Israeli civilians captive, in addition to the remains of two Israeli soldiers, Oron Shaul and Hadar Goldin, all of whom the terror group has refused to release.
While the current calm has been portrayed by Hamas as a “ceasefire” facilitated by Egypt and the United Nations, Israel has denied any agreement has been reached, maintaining instead that the Jewish state is “meeting calm with calm.”

Israeli security forces arrested a Palestinian from southern Lebanon who immigrated to Belgium as he tried to enter Israeli territory in July, with an indictment expected on Thursday.
By: World Israel News Staff
Israeli officials announced on Thursday that an indictment of Mustafa Khaled Awad, a 36-year-old terror suspect, would be filed Thursday morning.
Awad, a Palestinian from southern Lebanon, was arrested in July when tried to enter Israel via the Allenby Crossing from Jordan, the Shin Bet security service announced Wednesday.
While Awad resided in Belgium, he is suspected of belonging to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), one of the Palestinian terror organizations that advocates attacking the State of Israel instead of a negotiated peace settlement.
PFLP members have perpetrated dozens of terror attacks against Israelis throughout the world, including murdering Israeli tourism minister Rechavam Ze’evi in 2001.
Awad is accused of being active in the PFLP since 2010, training in Lebanon with Hezbollah and facilitating a terror funding network running from the PFLP in Syria and Lebanon to operatives in Europe.

Report: BDS claims it forced Israeli-operated ship from Tunisian portZIM vessel (shutterstock)
BDS activists took credit for the fact that a Tunisian port turned away a ship allegedly operated by the Israeli company ZIM, which denied it had leased the vessel in question.
By: World Israel News Staff
Last week, an Israeli ship on its way to Spain was denied permission to dock at the Rades Port in Tunisia, according to a report by the Jerusalem Post.
At the port’s entrance, the ship discovered that anti-Israel boycott operatives had threatened to block the port. Port workers also reportedly refuses to process the ship’s cargo, leaving the crew to reroute the vessel to its ultimate destination, Spain.
The events were allegedly set into motion based on the activities of Palestinian trade unions, a local Tunisian union and international boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) operatives.
While BDS activists claimed a victory by turning the vessel away, a ZIM spokesman told the Jerusalem Post that the ship did not belong to it, nor was it rented by the company or carrying any cargo belonging to the company.

Report: Israel acknowledges quiet on Gaza front; no long-term deal without captives’ return

Report: Israel acknowledges quiet on Gaza front; no long-term deal without captives’ returnLate IDF soldiers Hadar Goldin (L) and Oron Shaul, whose bodies are held by Hamas. (Social media)
A report in the Israeli media indicates that notwithstanding the relative calm along the Gaza Border, Israel has not yet struck a potentially enduring agreement with the Hamas terror group.
By: World Israel News Staff
While Israel’s border with the Gaza Strip is the most quiet it has been in weeks, a senior Israeli official quoted by Times of Israel indicated that any potentially longstanding deal with the Hamas terror group would require the return of Israeli captives and the remains of IDF soldiers.
The current truce is reportedly the handiwork of representatives of Egypt and the United Nations, who have served as go-betweens for Israel and Hamas.
In addition to the violent protests along the border orchestrated by Hamas, and the accompanying airborne arson attacks, the terror group also recently launched several lager-scale rocket attacks on Israel, striking residential areas and injuring Israelis. One recent attack resulted in Hamas rockets reaching the Israeli city of Beersheba, a first since 2014’s Operation Protective Edge.
The current calm appeared to involve Israel agreeing to reopen the Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza on Wednsday, which is one of the primary points of entry for goods entering the coastal enclave, in exchange for Hamas agreeing to ramp down arson attacks and cease rocket fire.
A senior Israeli official quoted by Times of Israel cautioned, however, that there would be “no real arrangement without the return of our sons and citizens, and a commitment for a long-term calm.

By: World Israel News Staff
Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman visited the Gaza Division on Monday and held an assessment meeting with IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot, GOC Southern Command Herzi Halevi and other senior IDF officials, during which he stated that “the question regarding the next round of fighting is not a question of ‘if’ but of ‘when.'”
“I am sure we will do what needs to be done and how it should be done,” he added. “We are conducting a responsible and powerful security policy. We are prepared and know what to do and how to do it.”
Israel and Hamas have come close to serious conflict in recent weeks after four months of Hamas-led violence along Israel’s border with Gaza.
Israel last week saw two days of the heaviest exchange of Palestinian rocket fire and reprisal Israeli airstrikes since Operation Protective Edge in 2014.
Gaza terrorists fired some 200 rockets at Israel and the Israeli military carried out some 160 airstrikes on Gaza in this latest round of violence.

By: World Israel News Staff
The IDF on Monday notified the family of Palestinian terrorist Mohammed Yousef, who killed  an Israeli father of two, that their house was to be destroyed.
The IDF attached an order of demolition to the house. Yousef stabbed to death Yotam Ovadia, a resident of Adam, a Jewish community in the Binyamin region.
The military entered the household of the Yousefs and prepared it for demolition.
The IDF notified the family early Monday morning.
The Yousef family will have an opportunity now to appeal the IDF demolition, although the likelihood of overturning the decision is slim. The High Court of Justice does not normally get involved in these instances.
On July 26, Yousef, 17, from the Palestinian village of Kobar entered Adam and attacked two residents outside a park, before a third resident shot him dead.

PA paid nearly $300,000 to Sbarro massacre terrorists and their families

Palestinian Authority has made payments totaling close to $300,000 to terrorists involved in the planning and execution of a horrific terrorist attack and their families.
By: Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
The Palestinian Authority (PA) has already paid almost $300,000 to those involved in the Sbarro attack in Jerusalem 17 years ago, reported Palestine Media Watch (PMW) in a statement marking the August 9 anniversary of the mass murder.
The family of Izz al-Din Al-Masri, who strapped on the shrapnel-filled vest and blew himself up in the crowded pizzeria, has so far gotten $50,124 after he killed 15 people, including seven children, and injured 130 others.
The bomber’s driver and attack planner, Ahlam Tamimi, was rewarded with monthly payments totaling $52,681 for the 10 years she sat in Israeli prison after conviction. She was released in 2011 as part of the deal to free Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, even though she had received 16 life sentences for the attack. She currently lives in Jordan, works as a TV presenter, and has remained unrepentant over her role.
In March 2017, the US Department of Justice requested her extradition after putting her on its Most Wanted Terrorists list, but Jordan refused to send her to be re-tried in an American court. Of those killed in Sbarro, one was a pregnant American, Shoshana Judy Greenbaum. The most severely injured person was also American, Chana Nachenberg, who remains in a vegetative state to this day.
The bomb-maker, Abdallah Barghouti, has “earned” the most by far – at least $191,526, says PMW, which monitors and analyzes the PA through its media and schoolbooks.
Barghouti received 67 life sentences for all of the explosive devices he built that ultimately killed 67 people and is still imprisoned.
PA law mandates that those who are imprisoned for injuring or murdering Israelis get a monthly allowance determined by a sliding scale that increases payments based on the amount of death and mayhem the terrorist causes.
The law also provides payments to families of “martyrs” who died while killing or trying to kill Israelis.
In July, the Knesset passed the “pay for slay” law, which mandates that the amount of money the PA pays terrorists and their families be deducted from tax revenues that Israel transfers to the Authority each month in an attempt to disincentivize terrorism.
The Israeli law was passed on the heels of the US’ Taylor Force Act, which the US Congress passed in March to cut American aid to the PA until it stops paying terrorists and their families.
The law was named for Taylor Force, an American tourist and army veteran who was stabbed and murdered by a Palestinian terrorist in the port of Jaffa in 2016. The attacker was shot dead by police.

New low in Israeli-Palestinian support for 2 states
 August 13, 2018
New low in Israeli-Palestinian support for 2 states(Shutterstock)
Support for a two-state solution among Israelis and Palestinians is at an all-time low.
By: AP
A new poll says support for a two-state solution among Israeli Jews and Palestinians is at a two-decade low.
The joint poll conducted by Tel Aviv University and the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research determined that just 43 percent of Israelis and Palestinians support a vision of peace that would create a Palestinian state alongside Israel.
The survey, released Monday, says the reasons for this are doubts over the possibility of implementing a two-state solution and a lack of trust in the other side. It says support for the concept began to decline a decade ago.
The poll, conducted in June and July, interviewed 2,150 Palestinians and 1,600 Israelis. Its margin of error was 2.5 percentage points for Palestinians and 3 percentage points for Israelis.

Netanyahu posted footage on Twitter of protesters waving Palestinian flags, commenting, “No better testament to the necessity of the Nation-State law.”
By: World Israel News Staff
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and several Israeli ministers denounced the Arab-Israeli protest against the recently passed nation-state law at Rabin Square in Tel Aviv on Saturday night, during which protestors flew Palestinian flags and chanted slogans advocating a Palestinian state that would replace Israel.
“Last night, we received cogent testimony of the opposition to the existence of the State of Israel and the urgency of the nation-state law,” Netanyahu stated at the beginning of the weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday.
“Yesterday we saw PLO flags in the heart of Tel Aviv. We heard the calls: ‘With blood and fire we will redeem Palestine.’ Many of the demonstrators want to abrogate the Law of Return, cancel the national anthem, fold up our flag and cancel Israel as the national state of the Jewish people and turn it – as their spokespersons said – into an Israeli-Palestinian state, and others say: a state of all its citizens.”
Netanyahu continued, “It is for precisely this [reason] that we passed the nation-state law. We are proud of our state, our flag and our national anthem. Israel is a Jewish and democratic state. The individual rights of its citizens are anchored very well in the basic laws and other laws. Now it is clearer than ever that the nation-state law is also necessary.”
“The law is necessary in order to ensure the future of the State of Israel as the national state of the Jewish people. We passed this law and we will uphold it,” he concluded.

Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz said that if necessary, the cabinet would consider destroying Hamas.
By: Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
Minister of Energy Yuval Steinitz said Sunday on a Kan Radio news program that if necessary, the Israeli government would consider ending the terrorist regime of Hamas and reconquering the Gaza Strip, but that at this time it was not required.
Steinitz, a member of Israel’s security cabinet, was unequivocal about who came out ahead when asked about last week’s rocket barrage by Hamas on southern Israel and the IDF’s counterstrikes.
“It’s very clear,” he said, “you just have to look at the proportions. Over the last couple of months we had one killed and a few injured. In Gaza – 200 killed and nearly 7,000 injured. And I’m not even talking about the hard blow we landed on what was left of Hamas’ attempt to build its strength up again.”
He was referring both to the attack tunnels that Israel has neutralized over the last several months, and to the targets hit most recently by Israel’s air force.

Tens of thousands of Arab-Israelis, some of whom flew Palestinian flags, met in Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square to protest the passage of the nation-state law.
By: AP
Members of Israel’s Arab minority led a mass protest in central Tel Aviv on Saturday night against a contentious new law that critics say marginalizes the state’s non-Jewish citizens.
The rally marked further fallout from the explosive nation-state law and came a week after thousands of Druze, also members of the Arab minority, packed the same city square last week.
Israel’s 1948 declaration of independence called for opening Israel to Jewish immigration while protecting the rights of all inhabitants.  The government says the recently passed bill merely enshrines the country’s existing character. But critics say it undercuts Israel’s democratic values and sidelines the country’s non-Jewish population, namely the Arab community that makes up 20 percent of the country.
One clause downgrades the Arabic language from official to “special” standing.
Israeli media reported tens of thousands of Jews and Arabs attended the protest. Some Arab protesters waved Palestinian flags and others held signs reading “equality.” Some knelt and performed Muslim prayers.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted footage on Twitter of protesters waving the Palestinian flags. “No better testament to the necessity of the nation-state law,” he wrote.
Ayman Odeh, an Arab member of the Israeli parliament, told The Associated Press: “This is the first time that tens of thousands of Arabs have come to Tel Aviv with Jewish democratic groups. They came to say this is not the end of the demonstrations, but the first serious demonstration against the Nation State law.”

By: AP and World Israel News Staff
A federal grand jury has indicted a former Chicago man for trying to join the Islamic State (IS) group.
Justice Department officials announced Friday that 21-year-old Faress Muhammad Shraiteh, a US citizen whom American officials claim is in Israel, is charged with one count each of conspiring to and attempting to provide material support and resources to IS.
Each count is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
The indictment alleges Shraiteh and two others conspired to join IS and traveled in May 2015 from Chicago to Egypt before flying to Istanbul, Turkey.
Shraiteh was denied entry there, while the two others were allowed in. The charges allege Shraiteh went to Israel, where he has family, and later told one of the other two that he planned join them in IS.
The indictment alleges that on May 28, 2015, Shraiteh “communicated with Individual B his plan to attempt to renew his passport in Israel” and rejoin them. Individual B, however, “was killed while conducting a suicide attack on behalf of ISIS,” according to the indictment, reported the Chicago Tribune.

Though he provided no details, Netanyahu said there were plans in place to achieve quiet in the south.
By: Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed Hamas’ recent attacks during the weekly Cabinet meeting on Sunday, saying the government demands no less than a complete cessation of all fire from the Gaza Strip, reported Kan Israel News.
Echoing his close Likud ally, Minister of Energy Yuval Steinitz, who spoke about Hamas and deterrence earlier in the morning on the radio, Netanyahu stated, “I won’t reveal here any military plans, but they’re ready. Our goal is to return quiet to the residents of the south and the  Gaza belt, and it will be fully achieved.”
He seemed to dismiss the prospect of a broad operation in Gaza, which has been demanded by some right-wing politicians and certain residents of the south who have faced Hamas’ barrage of rocket attacks.

The Israel Group, a non-profit that fights BDS, is demanding that the Los Angeles Unified School District, the second-largest in the US, cease holding workshops promoting BDS and discrimination against the Jewish state.
By: Atara Beck, World Israel News
In 2017, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) co-sponsored two full-day continuing education workshops, on October 19 and 21, for Kindergarten-Grade 12 teachers, titled “Learning About Islam and the Arab World.”
LAUSD is the second-largest school public school system in the US and the largest in the state of California, enrolling more than 640,000 students at over 900 schools and 187 public charter schools.
Ahead of the event, The Israel Group (TIG), described on its website as “a nonprofit that protects Israel in the diaspora by identifying, developing, and launching initiatives to cripple the boycott (BDS) movement against Israel,” protested to LAUDS that it had recruited “an anti-Israel, pro-BDS, pro-Palestinian organization – The Fellowship of Reconciliation (FORUSA)” for a professional development initiative.
One workshop session, for example, was titled “The Creation of Palestinian Refugees and Ethnic Cleansing.”

Netanyahu will meet with Czaputowicz in his first meeting with a senior Polish official following Poland’s passage of a controversial Holocaust law.
By: World Israel News Staff
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to meet with Poland’s Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) next month, the first such meeting between Netanyahu and a senior Polish official since the outbreak of a diplomatic crisis between the two countries following Poland’s controversial Holocaust law.
Israel Radio reported Sunday that Czaputowicz was scheduled to arrive in Israel and meet with Netanyahu, but sources in Warsaw said that he had been asked by Israeli officials to postpone the visit. According to the report, Warsaw claimed that they were asked to delay the visit due to the security situation in Israel and that it was not related to the contentious law.
In June, Warsaw gave final approval to the law  that forbids holding Poland responsible for crimes committed during World War II.
Critics in Israel and throughout the Jewish diaspora slammed the law for minimizing the complicity of Polish actors in Nazi war crimes and for whitewashing history, including the fact that many of the Nazis’ genocidal facilities were located in Poland.

Thousands of Palestinian rioters gathered along the security fence between Israel and Gaza just a day after hundreds of rockets were launched at the Jewish state by Gaza terrorists.
By: JNS.org and World Israel News Staff
“Approximately 9,000 rioters are gathered along the security fence between Gaza and Israel. They are burning tires and hurling rocks, explosive devices, and firebombs at IDF troops and the security fence,” the IDF Spokesperson Unit announced in a statement on Friday.
The IDF also said that terrorists tried to infiltrate Israel, but the suspects returned to Gaza after the infiltration attempt. Gaza terrorists also hurled a grenade at Israeli troops in the northern Gaza Strip, no troops were injured.
In response to the violent riots, the IDF struck two Hamas posts in the northern Gaza Strip.
The riots on Friday were part of the near weekly “March of Return” protests held since March by Hamas. They also come just a days after hundreds of rockets were fired on Israel by Hamas terrorists.
In addition to Hamas’ standard rioting tactics, terrorists also continued to use airborne incendiary devices to launch arson attacks into Israeli territory.
This included a massive incendiary kite launched from Gaza on Saturday, which got stuck in power lines close to Kibbutz Sufa, reported the Times of Israel.
While Israeli Electric Corporation employers rushed to the scene to disengage the kite from the lines, removing it before a blaze could ignite, the kite succeeded in causing short power outage in the kibbutz.

Instead of serving as a moderating factor in the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the UN is a co-conspirator with Hamas against Israel.
By: Rabbi Abraham Cooper
The specter of war hangs large over the Israel-Gaza border, after communities in southern Israel this week suffered a barrage of 200 Hamas missiles — including a powerful Grad missile that landed in Beersheba, far from the border. Iranian money, weapons and tactics may be fueling Hamas’ attacks, but there are other unindicted co-conspirators at work, and it is time to call one out: the United Nations.
Nikki Haley, the straight-talking undiplomatic US ambassador to the United Nations, has tried and failed to get the Security Council and General Assembly to denounce Hamas’ serial use of civilians to violently breach the Israel-Gaza dividing line. “Attacking Israel is their favorite political sport,” Haley lamented.
Indeed, cynical maneuvers at the UN have made Hamas bulletproof to even the slightest diplomatic slap. The terror group knows the world body will never condemn it for murdering Jews or putting Gaza’s civilians in harm’s way. It knows the UN will always blame the Jewish state.
Just days after 62 Palestinians were killed during a Hamas-led attempt to breach Israel’s security fence, the UN Human Rights Council voted to investigate the deaths, no doubt with an eye toward ultimately blaming Israel.
This, despite a declaration by a Hamas official that 53 of the dead were members of Hamas or affiliated with another terrorist group, Islamic Jihad — an admission that this was no “peaceful protest” by innocent Gazan civilians.
UN human rights chief Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein accused the Jewish state of keeping Gazans “caged in a toxic slum.” He failed to explain why Hamas diverts — i.e., steals — shipments of building materials meant for civilian housing repairs so it can expand its terror tunnels into Israeli territory.

Crocodiles are thriving and reproducing in the Jordan Valley, but their growth has become a major problem for the area.
By: AP
An Israeli businessman appears to have bitten off more than he can chew with plans for a crocodile farm in a Jordan Valley community.
Hundreds of crocodiles have been stranded at the farm in a remote spot in the Jordan Valley — left behind by a pair of failed business ventures.
The crocodiles were brought to the settlement of Petzael in the mid-1990s as a tourist attraction. Ensuing Israeli-Palestinian violence kept visitors away, prompting the crocodiles’ purchase by entrepreneur Gadi Biton, who hoped to sell them for their skin.
But his venture flopped after Israel passed a law in 2012 defining the crocodile as a protected animal and banning raising the animals for sale as meat or merchandise. Multiple attempts to sell them abroad have failed.

As of early Thursday morning, Hamas has fired about 150 rockets at Israel from the Gaza Strip, the IDF stated.
The IDF retaliated by targeting a number of sites used by the Hamas and other terror organizations operating in Gaza. Since Wednesday evening, the Iron Dome has intercepted 25 rockets.
The Eshkol Regional Council said early Thursday morning that a 30-year-old woman was seriously injured when a rocket hit a greenhouse where she was working. The rocket fell in an open area on the outskirts of the largest city in southern Israel and caused no damage.

The leading candidate in the impending Brazilian elections vowed to move his nation’s embassy to Jerusalem and declared, “Palestine is not a country, so there should be no embassy [in Brazil].”
By: World Israel News Staff
The front-runner in Brazil’s race for president, Jair Bolsonaro, recently announced his intention to move Brazil’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, reported JTA.
Bolsonaro added on Tuesday that if elected he would shutter the Palestinian Authority’s “embassy” in Brasilia, commenting, “Is Palestine a country? Palestine is not a country, so there should be no embassy here.”
The comments were made in a series of televised interviews in the run-up to Brazil’s elections in November, with Bolsonaro averring during one of the sit-downs, “You do not negotiate with terrorists.”
While Bolsonaro has remained a staunch supporter of the Jewish state, Brazil recognized “Palestine” as an “independent state” in 2010 under Luis Inacio Lula da Silva’s administration. A far-left politician, da Silva formed alliances with terrorist regimes such as Iran and Libya.

White House team prepares to launch Mideast peace plan
August 3, 2018

White House team prepares to launch Mideast peace planPresident Donald Trump at his desk. (AP/Manuel Balce Ceneta)
The Trump administration is assembling a Middle East policy team prior to its unveiling of an Israeli-Palestinian peace plan the president has touted as the “deal of the century.”
By: AP
U.S. officials say the Trump administration is staffing up a Middle East policy team at the White House in anticipation of unveiling its long awaited but largely mysterious Israeli-Palestinian peace plan.
The National Security Council last week began approaching other agencies seeking volunteers to join the team, which will work for President Donald Trump’s Mideast peace pointmen Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt, according to the officials.
The team, which is being set up to organize the peace plan’s public presentation and any negotiations that may ensue, will comprise three units: one concentrating on its political and security details, one on its significant economic focus and one on strategic communications, the officials said.
The creation of a White House team is the first evidence in months that a plan is advancing. Although Trump officials have long promised the most comprehensive package ever put forward toward resolving the conflict, the emerging plan has not been described with even a small amount of detail by Kushner, Greenblatt or any other official.
Timing on the release of the plan remains undecided. The State Department, Pentagon, intelligence agencies and Congress have been asked to detail personnel to the team for six months to a year, according to the officials, who were not authorized to publicly discuss the matter and spoke on condition of anonymity.
The agencies declined to comment but an NSC official said that Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, and Greenblatt, Trump’s special envoy for international negotiations, “are expanding their team and the resources available as they finalize the details and rollout strategy of the peace initiative.”
Pragmatic details
White House officials say the plan will focus on pragmatic details, rather than top-line concepts, that will be able to easier win public support.
Yet the Palestinian leadership has been openly hostile to any proposal from the Trump administration after Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in December and moved the U.S. embassy there from Tel Aviv in May.
Since the Palestinian Authority and its President Mahmoud Abbas broke off contact after the Jerusalem announcement, the U.S. negotiating team has been talking to independent Palestinian experts.
The White House expects that the Palestinian Authority will engage on the plan and has been resisting congressional demands to fully close the Palestine Liberation Organization office in Washington because Greenblatt and Kushner want to keep that channel open. But officials have offered little evidence to back that up.
Israel’s response uncertain
In addition, Israel’s response to the plan is far from certain. Although Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is one of Trump’s top foreign allies, it remains unclear if he will back massive investment in Gaza, which is run by the Hamas terror group.
For the plan to succeed or even survive the starting gate, it will need at least initial buy-in from both Israel and the Palestinians as well as from the Gulf Arab states, which officials say will be asked to substantially bankroll its economic portion. Arab officials have thus far adopted a wait-and-see approach.
Officials say there will never be a perfect time for the roll-out, but that they are laying the groundwork now for when an opportune time becomes apparent. The plan is not done, but is being finalized, including an economic development proposal for the Palestinian people that foresees major infrastructure and industrial work, particularly in Gaza.

US Assures Israel: Iran Policy Unaffected by Trump’s Offer to Meet RouhaniPresident Donald Trump and PM Netanyahu (AP Photo/Evan Vucci)
A US official reportedly communicated to Israel that there had been no change in the US’ Iran policy, notwithstanding Trump’s offer to negotiate with Tehran without any “preconditions.”
By: World Israel News and AP
Following US President Donald Trump’s offer on Monday to meet with Iran’s president without any “preconditions,” Israel was reportedly informed on Tuesday that the US’ strict policy toward Tehran has not changed.
The message was apparently relayed to an Israeli diplomatic source who cited “senior American officials” as his source, reported Times of Israel.
While Iranian officials’ initial reaction to Trump’s offer was overwhelmingly negative, Ali Akbar Nategh Nouri, a senior cleric and member of the influential Expediency Council, said Trump’s suggestion Monday that he would be willing to meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani should not be categorically rejected.
“It should be discussed in the Supreme National Security Council,” said Nategh Nouri, who is also a former aide to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Nategh Nouri said “we have to contemplate” the gesture, but also cautioned “we should not rejoice over this offer and not get excited.”
“Trump may take advantage of this over-excitement,” he said, the state-run IRNA news agency reported. “It could be a test for us.
The Iranian leadership has previously ruled out one-on-one talks with Trump, following his decision to pull the US out of the deal under which Iran was given relief from sanctions in return for curbs on its nuclear program.

The officials targeted under the so-called Global Magnitsky Act are Turkish Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gül and Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters.
The US Treasury is imposing sanctions against two cabinet-level Turkish officials over the continued detention of a US pastor by the Turkish authorities, the White House spokesperson said.

Pastor Andrew Brunson, a US citizen and a Turkish resident for over two decades, has been arrested as part of Ankara’s probe into the 2016 failed military coup. He is facing up to 35 years in prison if found guilty of supporting the coup.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense on Thursday issued a rare statement thanking the IDF for a strike it conducted against Islamic State (ISIS) targets in southern Syria in retaliation for ISIS rocket fire on Israel.

On Wednesday, ISIS fired two Grad rockets at Israel’s north, setting off sirens in the area. The rockets landed in the Kinneret, Sea of Galilee, causing no damage or injuries.

The beaches were full of swimmers nearby amid the summer vacation season.

In response, the IDF aircraft targeted the rocket launcher from which they were fired. The area surrounding it was targeted by IDF artillery.

“Russian armed forces’ command in Syria used the existing communication channels to thank the IDF leadership for killing terrorists and stopping a massive provocation,” the Ministry said in a statement, according to Russia’s Sputnik News.

“A precision strike by jets and IDF artillery operatively destroyed Daesh (Arabic acronym for ISIS) terrorists and their rocket launchers,” the Russian ministry stated.

The IDF estimates that the ISIS fire was a spillover from the intense fighting between Bashar al-Assad’s advancing armies and rebel forces based adjacent to Israel border with Syria.

Ynet reported that Israeli defense officials believe ISIS launched the rockets at Israel as a provocation in an attempt to make Israel attack the Syrian army in retaliation.
This assessment is based on the fact Assad’s army was attacking ISIS from the north and east, and so any fire to the west, towards Israel, would have to be intentional, they say.
“Over the last few days, intense internal fighting has taken place in Syria adjacent to the border with Israel. The IDF will act against any attempt to compromise Israeli sovereignty and the safety of its civilians,” the IDF stated.

Egyptian president to Israelis: ‘Great chance’ for peace with PalestiniansEgyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ( Jihad Watch)
The Egyptian president called on Israelis to take advantage of a “great chance” to make peace with Palestinians.

By: World Israel News Staff

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi on Sunday called on Israelis to take advantage of what he called “a great chance” for peace with Palestinians.
“I address the Israeli public opinion that there is a great chance for real peace and stability in the region by finding a solution to this issue,” Sisi said at a youth conference at Cairo University, according to the Xinhua news agency.

“This solution will not at all be against your security and stability,” Sisi said through the televised event, in response to a question posed to him by the audience.

Sisi, however, reiterated Egypt’s position that supports the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with eastern Jerusalem as its capital, based on the pre-1967 borders and the relevant UN resolutions.

“The ‘Deal of the Century’ is a media term rather than a political one,” he continued. “We cannot accept anything the Palestinians do not accept and we support what they accept.”

He noted that Egypt is working to significantly ease the situation for Palestinian residents of the Gaza Strip and that he has decided that the Rafah crossing will remain open – being the only crossing to the outside world, as he put it.

Al-Sisi rejected all reports on Egypt’s backing of the Trump administration’s “deal of the century.”

“Our position is clear – we stand with the UN resolutions, and with what the Palestinians agree, we will agree, and there is no other way,” he stated.

The Egyptian president said that Egypt continues to work to achieve inter-Palestinian reconciliation in order “to have a united leadership for negotiations regarding the Palestinian cause.”

Meeting with Ron Lauder
Earlier Sunday, Sisi met with US-based World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder. A key step on the way to achieving the goal of an Israeli Palestinian peace deal, Sisi said, was the bringing about of a Palestinian reconciliation agreement in which the Palestinian Authority restores its rule over the Gaza Strip.
In the meeting, Sissi also expressed keenness to strengthen Egypt’s strategic ties with the US, according to Egyptian media.

David Friedman said words were not enough to describe the evil in a visit to a terror victim’s family.
By: World Israel News Staff
US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman on Monday visited the family of Yotam Ovadia, who was murdered in a stabbing attack Thursday night.
“I was heartbroken to see the tragic impact of the murder of Yotam Ovadia – a young mother left alone to care for two small children, parents grieving for their only son, Friedman told Ovadia’s widow Tal.
“Words are insufficient to describe the evil and barbarity of the terrorist act.”
Ovadia, 31, was killed when a 17-year-old terrorist infiltrated the town of Adam in Samaria and stabbed three people. His funeral was held on Friday.
Ambassador Friedman visited Ovadia’s wife and two children, ages 2 and 7 months, as the family is sitting shiva, the Jewish seven-day mourning period.
The ambassador had previously condemned the attack.

Saudi Arabia’s stance vis-a-vis the peace process remains supportive of Palestinian demands, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman says.

Saudi Arabia has reassured Arab allies it will not endorse any peace plan proposed by the US that fails to address Jerusalem’s status or the Palestinian right of return, assuaging their concerns that the kingdom might back a US deal that aligns with Israel on key issues, Reuters reported Sunday.
King Salman’s guarantees to Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and his public defense of traditional Arab positions in recent months have helped reverse perceptions that Saudi Arabia’s stance was changing under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, diplomats and analysts told Reuters.

A Hamas-affiliated TV station that was declared a terrorist organization by Israel last year was shut down by the IDF.
By: World Israel News Staff
IDF forces in the Binyamin area early Monday morning arrested four Palestinians who operated the Hamas-affiliated al-Quds TV station.
The Palestinian official WAFA news agency identified the four as station head Ala Rimawi, Sami Ulwan, Husni Injass and Qutaibah Hamdan – all freelance journalists.
Al-Quds TV was declared a terror organization by Israel earlier this month, and the four suspects are being charged with incitement to terrorism.
The forces, working with Israel’s police and the Shin Bet (Israel’s Security Agency), also confiscated electronic equipment and a vehicle.
The TV station serves as a Hamas mouthpiece. Israel has been operating to shut down Palestinian media outlets and publications that incite against Israelis and promote terror attacks.

Israel has warned the Assad regime not to carry out a massacre of Syria’s civilian population in southern Syria, Channel 12 TV reported.
By: World Israel News Staff
Israel sent a message to the Assad regime via the Kremlin warning against massacring the civilian population in southern Syria, according to a report Monday night by Channel 12 News.
In order to ensure that Syrian forces do not carry out massacres of the population, Israel is monitoring the area and has conducted operations, noted the TV news report.
As the Assad regime, with Russian and Iranian aid, reconsolidates its control over southern Syria along Israel’s northern border for the first time since the outbreak of the civil war seven years ago, there is a real concern in Israel that Assad’s forces will take advantage of the situation to carry out large-scale killings of the civilian population.

Russia cannot force Iran to leave Syria following the end of the civil war in that country, Russian Ambassador Anatoly Viktorov told Israeli media on Monday.
By: TPS
In an interview with Hebrew-language Channel 10 on Monday, Russian Ambassador to Israel Anatoly Viktorov said that Israel’s security was a “high priority” for Russia, and added that Moscow is committed to upholding the terms of the 1974 ceasefire agreement between Israel and Syria that ended the Yom Kippur War.
But he said that all Moscow will be able to do is to “try to convince” the Iranian leadership to evacuate troops from Syria on a permanent basis.
“We want to see every part of the separation of forces agreement upheld,” Viktorov said. “We agree that on the other side of the [Israel-Syria] border, there should only be regular Syrian army troops. Securing Israel’s security is very high up on our priority list. Israel’s security is not just an empty phrase for Russia’s foreign policy.”

Unless Hamas curbs its arson terrorism and border ‎riots campaign, Israel may have no choice but to ‎launch a full-fledged military operation in the Gaza ‎Strip, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman warned ‎Friday.‎
Liberman toured the city of Sderot, 1.5 miles from ‎Gaza, on Friday, saying that Israel must maintain ‎the deterrence generated opposite Hamas.

By: World Israel News Staff
Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party staged an anti-US event in Nablus on Tuesday apparently designed to express support for the ailing leader’s rejection of US President Donald Trump’s “deal of the century” peace plan.
The rally culminated in a fiery display expressing disdain for Trump, with one Palestinian hanging an effigy of Trump from a noose while another set it ablaze, reported Palestinian Media Watch (PMW).
As the life-size Trump doll burned, the crowd cheered, including Abbas’ deputy chairman, Mahmoud Al- Aloul, who many believe will succeed Abbas.
During the proceedings, one of the rally’s hosts shouted, “Nablus is now putting the deal of the century on trial! Nablus is now putting Trump’s deal on trial!”
In a photo from the rally, which took place in Nablus’ Martyrs Square, Aloul can be seen raising two fingers in the classic victory pose.

A Swedish parliamentary candidate and pro-Palestinian activist announced in an interview that she would solve the Israeli-Palestinian by shipping Jews from Israel to the US.
By: World Israel News Staff
A Swedish politician and Palestinian advocate named Oldoz Javidi recently declared in an interview that she believes the solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is to expel Israel Jews to the United States.
After accusing Israel of “occupy[ing] another country” and “stealing” the Palestinians’ “freedom,” Javidi concluded, “Israel’s best friend is the United States, another infernal regime with vastly large land areas. So why don’t they invite their friends over and make room for them? They seem to do well in each other’s company,” reported the Jerusalem Post.
“Then the Palestinians can live in peace and rebuild the land that once was theirs,” Javidi stated.
Javidi was immediately blasted by writer and activist Annika Rothstein, who tweeted, “So… a candidate for parliament from the Swedish Feminist Party (FI) suggests ‘moving all the Jews from Israel to America’ as a solution to the ME conflict. Moving Jews against their will to solve a problem? Sounds like a final solution to me. Solid feminist politics.”

The Mossad supplied European spy agencies with vital intelligence last month that headed off an Iranian-led plot to bomb a Free Iran rally on June 30 just outside of Paris that was attended by 25,000 people, Hebrew media reported Thursday.
Authorities in Belgium, France and Germany worked together with the Mossad to track the suspects before swooping in on Saturday, July 1, to make the arrests. One alleged accomplice was caught in France, two Belgians of Iranian origin were stopped by the police in their car in Brussels, and a Vienna-based Iranian diplomat who is believed to be their leader was taken in Bavaria.
The Belgians are a husband and wife team who are alleged to have been on their way to the rally when stopped with 500 grams of the homemade explosive TATP and a detonation device in their possession.

The Knesset approved a bill canceling a section of the law which enabled the prime minister and defense minister to declare war without the support of other ministers.
The Knesset’s plenum on Tuesday approved the Basic Law: the Government, amendment number 7, with a majority of 77 supporters versus 16 opponents i second and third readings.
The initial bill passed in May sought to cancel the requirement for a cabinet majority to declare war or take significant military action that could lead to war, thus permitting a prime minister to declare war together with only the defense minister or even on his own if also serving in that capacity.

On Thursday, Israelis blocked a road near Israel’s Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem, preventing the exit of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who faced criticism last year for praising a Nazi collaborator.
By: AP and World Israel News Staff
About a dozen people protested Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban as he visited Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem, Thursday afternoon.
During the protest, sign-carrying demonstrators blocked Orban’s car, preventing him from leaving the memorial grounds while chanting slogans such as “shame on you” at the Hungarian premiere.
Veronika Cohen, a Hungarian Holocaust survivor, held a sign reading “never again.”
“I don’t think that you have to be a Holocaust survivor or a Hungarian to be here to say that Orban has no business coming here,” she said.
Among the sources of criticism leveled at the four-time Hungarian prime minister was his praise last year for Miklos Horthy — Hungary’s World War II-era ruler who introduced anti-Semitic laws and collaborated with the Nazis.

UK rabbis attack the Labour party for adopting a new code that claims radical criticism of Israeli policies is not anti-Semitism.
By: Batya Jerenberg, World Israel New
Sixty-eight rabbis from across the religious denominational spectrum in the United Kingdom sent an open letter Monday to the opposition Labour Party to protest a code of conduct regarding anti-Semitism that its national executive committee (NEC) is set to approve Tuesday.
In the letter, published in The Guardian, the rabbis stated: “It is not the Labour party’s place to rewrite a definition of antisemitism,” which has been accepted by the British government, the Scottish Parliament, the Welsh assembly, “but above all else, accepted by the vast majority of Jewish people in Britain and globally.”
That definition is the one written by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA). The NEC, however, has significantly watered down the original. It reportedly omits at least four aspects of what constitutes anti-Semitism, including accusing Jews of “being more loyal to Israel” than their own country; claiming that Israel’s existence is a “racist endeavor”; applying a “double standard” on Israel; and comparing “contemporary Israeli policy” to that of the Nazis.

By: World Israel News Staff
Hamas has reportedly accepted the terms of a deal proposed by Egypt to end a decade-long dispute with its rival Fatah.
The Times of Israel reported early Friday morning that Hamas had accepted an Egyptian reconciliation proposal and is awaiting Fatah’s response.
Egypt has reportedly exerted heavy pressure on Hamas and Fatah to end the quarrel.
Senior Hamas official Musa Abu Marzouk revealed on Wednesday that Egypt had presented the new offer.
Abu Marzouk said that the deal calls for the immediate lifting of sanctions imposed by the Palestinian Authority (PA) on the Gaza Strip a year ago, while Fatah will assume its responsibilities in the Gaza Strip, reported the Jerusalem Post.
The sanctions leveled by PA head Mahmoud Abbas include the forced retirement of thousands of PA civil servants and the suspension of social assistance to hundreds of families. In addition, Abbas has refused to pay Israel for electricity and fuel supplies to the Gaza Strip.
Hamas and the Fatah-led PA have made multiple attempts at reconciliation since Hamas took control of Gaza with brutal force, and most recently signed a reconciliation agreement in November 2017, but have yet to implement it, instead escalating the conflict with mutual antagonism.
Fatah, led by Abbas, and Hamas have waged a battle for power and control, and tensions between the two factions continue to rise.

By: World Israel News Staff
US Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Nikki Haley defended her country’s decision to withdraw from the UN’s Human Rights Council (UNRC) Wednesday, saying it was the UN’s “greatest failure.”
Addressing the Heritage Foundation, a Washington-based think tank, Haley condemned the UNHRC. “More often, the Human Rights Council has provided cover, not condemnation, for the world’s most inhumane regimes. It has been a bully pulpit for human rights violators,” she stated.
The US announced in June that it was officially withdrawing from the UNHRC. Prior to the announcement, the US had engaged in extensive diplomatic efforts for more than a year to address the critical flaws of the Council, especially its persistent bias against Israel and the ability of human rights violators to win elections to the Council and undermine its effectiveness.

During a joint press conference with Netanyahu, Hungary’s prime minister says his country has ‘zero tolerance’ for anti-Semitism.

By: World Israel News Staff

Hungary has “zero tolerance” for anti-Semitism, Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban said Thursday.

Antisemitism in western Europe is on the rise, while it is declining in eastern Europe, Orban added before meeting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his office as part of his four-day Israel trip.

Orban appeared to tie the rise in anti-Semitism to the influx in the number of Muslim immigrants to the Europe continent. While western Europe has taken in millions of immigrants, most of them Muslims from the Middle East, Africa and Asia, Hungary and other eastern European countries have fastidiously guarded their borders and prevented immigrants from entering by building walls and instituting tough rules for absorption.
Referring to Hungary’s geographic location, Orban said his country has a problem “with immigration and terrorism,” arguing that terrorists, ostensibly from the Middle East, are “abusing immigration routes to come to Europe.”

Israel and Russia are reportedly working out the arrangements on Israel’s border with Syria ahead of the Assad regime’s reassertion of control of southern Syria.
The 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement is serving as the model.
Israel Radio reported Wednesday that in addition to talks between the two countries’ leaders, mutual work groups have been studying issues such as no-man’s land, demilitarized zones and the deployment of Israeli and Syrian forces on both sides of the border.
Citing a Russian diplomat, the report said that Israel and Syria have agreed to return to the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement drawn up in the wake of the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

An Israeli Arab who served with ISIS in Syria was arrested and charged upon his return to the country.
By: World Israel News Staff
Nidal Hamed Salah, an Israeli-Arab from the town of Jaljulia, was arrested last month after returning from Syria, where he fought with the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group.
Salah was successful in joining ISIS in October 2015 after paragliding into Syria from the Golan Heights.
Arrested immediately upon his return to Israel almost three years later, he was charged on Wednesday at the Central District court with joining a terrorist group, providing information to an enemy, contacting a foreign agent, illegally exiting the country and several weapons violations.
He was a part of a seven-member cell of Arabs with Israeli citizenship who had made plans to join the ISIS terror organization in Syria.
The aspiring terrorists, all residents of the town of Jaljulia and in their 20s, planned to follow Salah but were arrested by Israeli security forces before they had the chance.
Salah’s flight to Syria prompted an investigation, which led to the exposure of the cell.

After over three months of sending incendiary kites and balloons over the border to Israel, Hamas is now utilizing innocent birds to carry out these arson attacks.

Hamas harnessed incendiary materials to a falcon and sent it towards Israel, marking a new development in the terror group’s arson terrorism against Israel’s south.
Gilad Gabai, a National Parks Authority ranger, discovered the bird on Monday near Nahal Habesor with the flammable materials tied to its tail. The bird was dead, after apparently igniting a fire nearby.
Gabai told IDF Radio on Tuesday that “animals are already being burned as a result of the fire kite and balloon terrorism. Now we see that they [Hamas] have moved on to using animals as a weapon. This is very distressing.”

There was nothing stated publicly during the Putin-Trump summit in Helsinki that suggests a major change of policy in Syria — and for Israel that might not be such a bad thing.
By: Mati Wagner, World Israel News
Ahead of the summit in Helsinki between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the concerns of Americans and Europeans, as well as Israelis, were mainly focused on what concessions — if any — Trump would make to Putin.
There was absolutely no expectation that Putin would concede to Trump on any significant position. He would not commit to stop undermining the European Union, he would not agree to cease actions aimed at weakening the NATO alliance, he would never remove Russian forces occupying eastern Ukraine or reverse the takeover of Crimea. Nor would he cease collaboration with Iran in Syria, let alone support US efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons by restoring sanctions.
However, the worry of many in the West and in Israel was that Trump would give in to Russia. For Europeans and Americans, concerns focused mainly on issues such as the US’s continued support for NATO, its continued military aid to western Ukraine as a bulwark against Russian encroachment and the renewal of the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START).

On Monday, the IDF staged an extensive military drill simulating a ground operation in the Gaza Strip.
The drill was launched in the Negev region, with Beersheba serving as a stand-in for the type of urban terrain IDF soldiers would encounter in Gaza’s cities, reported Israel’s Channel 10 news.
After a weekend in which Hamas fired around 200 rockets from Gaza into Israeli territory, injuring civilians and damaging property including a synagogue, the Negev-based IDF drill has been interpreted was a warning to terror groups in the Gaza Strip.

Speaking to Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization on Monday, Ayatollah Ali Khameini gave a fiery speech in which he called the American administration’s as-yet-unrevealed Mideast peace plan a “satanic and vicious plot,” according to his Twitter feed, and declared that Israel would one day disappear.
The Shiite Muslim extremist leader vowed that Trump’s “deal of the century will never happen,” referring to the US president’s plan to settle the conflict between the Palestinians and Israel.
“To the dismay of the U.S. politicians, Palestine will never be forgotten and al-Quds [Jerusalem] will remain the capital of Palestine and the first Qibla of Muslims,” said Khamenei in another tweet.
As reported by Arutz 7, the 78-year-old cleric predicted Israel’s ultimate demise as well, predicting ominously, “They will see the day when the roots of the fabricated Zionist regime will dry up.”

Israel has been increasing the number of air attacks on Iranian targets in Syria to prevent the Islamic Republic from transferring arms.
By: World Israel News Staff
Israel is ramping up attacks against Iranian supply lines in Syria to prevent the flow of arms from Iran to Iranian and Hezbollah forces based in Syria and Lebanon, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
The article was published Monday as Israel reportedly launched another attack against Iranian forces in Syria, this time in Aleppo.
In June, Israel reportedly targeted a compound on the Syria-Iraq border, according to a security official. Israel has also carried out attacks against military targets closer to home in Damascus, Homs and Hama, foreign media reports say.
Israel considers it paramount to roll back Iran’s territorial expansion before the US draws down its forces, the Wall Street Journal said, pointing to the June strike as indicating that urgency.
In previous bombings of purported Iranian assets over the past few years, Israel has almost exclusively struck southern and central Syria.

A Palestinian terrorist was given a lenient sentence for stabbing a Jewish woman because stabbing only once is not considered murderous intent by the judges.

A military court sentenced Hamza Faiz Monday to 14 years in jail for a stabbing attack almost three years ago in which one woman was seriously injured in her back.
He was also ordered to pay half a million shekels in damages to Nirit Zmora, the victim – 10% of what had been demanded by her lawyer.
The lighter-than-usual sentence for such a terror attack stemmed from the fact that the three military judges had convicted him only of aggravated battery and possession of a knife, and not attempted murder, because Faiz struck Zmora only once.

Gutnick told the Post‘s Gil Hoffman in an exclusive interview that he has built a relationship with Shaked in recent years and has pledged his resources to her success.
Gutnick said that he chose Shaked because of her right-wing views, her leadership skills and her ability as a secular Jew who respects religion to unite Israelis. He also believes the time has come for Israel to have its second female prime minister after Golda Meir.
Gutnick has secretly been advising Shaked to leave Jewish Home and join Likud. He said that Jewish Home head Naftali Bennett should stand aside and not “be selfish.”

In January, Israel used a Mossad-orchestrated operation in Iran to capture over 50,000 pages and 163 compact discs of memos, videos and plans related to Tehran’s nuclear program.
On Sunday, the New York Times revealed new details about the operation that one of its reporters gleaned after viewing key documents from the heist, at the invitation of the Israeli government.
The Times reporter concluded after reviewing the documents that “[d]espite Iranian insistence that its [nuclear] program was for peaceful purposes, the country had worked in the past to systematically assemble everything it needed to produce atomic weapons.”
Back in April, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived at a similar conclusion in a presentation in which he reviewed the central findings from the trove of evidence.

Israel is uniquely positioned to strike a deal with Russia regarding Iran’s future involvement in Syria.
By: Daniel Krygier, World Israel News
Hours after Israel reportedly downed a Syrian drone, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met Russia’s President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. On the agenda was once again Iran as well as Israeli and Russian interests in Syria.
It was their ninth meeting since Russia entered militarily into the Syrian war in September 2015. The meeting took place just days ahead of Putin’s scheduled talk with President Donald Trump in Helsinki, Finland.
Over the past three years, Russian and Israeli interests have increasingly converged.
In 2015, Israel sought to improve its ties with Russia while facing a hostile Obama administration that undermined Israel’s security.
By contrast, Israel is strongly supported by a friendly Trump administration. Trump has also increasingly adopted Israel’s key positions on Iran. He left the Iran nuclear deal and supports Israel’s demand that Iran leave Syria.
Israel’s security has been greatly strengthened by Netanyahu’s excellent relations with both Trump and Putin.

The new ceasefire achieved between Israel and Hamas includes an end to the launching of bomb-laden kites and arson balloons into Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted.
“I heard it being said that Israel has agreed to a ceasefire that would allow the continuation of terrorism by incendiary kites and balloons; this is incorrect. We are not prepared to accept any attacks against us and we will respond appropriately,” Netanyahu said at the beginning of the weekly cabinet meeting Sunday morning.
Over the weekend, Israel “hit Hamas in a significant way and hard,” he continued. “Our policy is clear: Whoever hurts us, we will hit them with great strength. This is what we did yesterday. The IDF dealt Hamas the harshest blow since Operation Protective Edge. I hope that they got the message; if not, they will get it later.”

A Palestinian father and son were killed and a third person was wounded in a mysterious blast Sunday morning in a house in Gaza City.
Palestinian sources identified the man as Ahmad Mansour Hassan, 35, the head of Fatah’s Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades rocket unit in Gaza. He is closely affiliated with Hamas. His 13-year-old son Louay was killed as well.
The Palestinian police said they were killed by unexploded IDF munitions that went off when they were tampering with it.

A top Hamas leader threatened further escalation in the violence on the Israel-Gaza border if Israel’s blockade on the Gaza Strip is not lifted.
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh spoke on Sunday at the funeral of two Palestinian teenagers killed Saturday in an Israeli Air force (IAF) airstrike, claiming that the Palestinians “are on the road to victory.”
“The issue of Palestine, Jerusalem and Gaza is still on the top of our agenda. The solution to the situation in Gaza is to lift the siege. The Palestinian people do not believe in promises about projects. The people want to see real results that will bring an end to this siege,” he declared.

Rightwing politicians slam Gaza ceasefire with Hamas

Rightwing politicians slam Gaza ceasefire with Hamas Minister of Education Naftali Bennett (Miriam Alster/Flash90)
Rightwing politicians slammed the ceasefire reached Saturday night between Israel and Hamas, saying it would enable the terror organization to regroup and continue its belligerence.
By: World Israel News Staff
The ceasefire reached Saturday night with Hamas is bad for Israel because it allows Hamas to dictate the terms of the conflict and to regroup before the next round of clashes, politicians on the right said Sunday.
Education Minister Naftali Bennett, head of the Jewish Home party, said that Hamas was dictating the pace of the conflict and called the ceasefire “a serious mistake.”
In an interview with Kan Radio Sunday morning, Bennett called to “demilitarize” the Gaza Strip and said that he had presented Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with a plan to do that.
Bennett referred to his plan as “very sophisticated, surprising and different” as well as “including military, civilian and political processes.”
In another radio interview with Kol Baramah, Bennett said that evacuation of parts of the south might be necessary.

Arab-Israeli lawmaker calls on Arabs to seek housing in Jewish communitiesMember of Knesset Ahmed Tibi (Flash90)
An Arab Joint List MK called on young Arab couples struggling to find housing in all-Arab communities to search in Jewish communities.
By: World Israel News Staff
Arab Joint List Member of Knesset Ahmed Tibi called on young Arab couples facing a shortage of housing in the Galilee region’s Arab communities to purchase apartments in the area’s Jewish cities and communities.
Tibi’s comments came as the Knesset debates a controversial nation-state of the Jewish people bill that would permit the creation of all-Jewish communities that ban Arab citizens.
The Supreme Court has ruled that such a ban is prohibited by a Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty.
Tibi made the comments in an interview with Israel Hayom. “In light of the housing and land shortage within Arab communities and the poor infrastructure there, I am calling on young people who wish to do so to go live in Jewish communities like Carmiel, Afula, Nazareth Illit and Harish, in addition to the mixed [Arab and Jewish] cities.”

This was the wording of a press statement issued on Thursday by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office informing that he has instructed the Foreign Ministry director general to summon the EU ambassador to Israel, Emanuele Giaufret, for a second reprimand, and that “he also intends to take additional steps.”
Giaufret appeared at the Foreign Ministry on Friday morning, but no details from the meeting were released.

Hundreds of worshipers accompanied by IDF troops enter Shechem to pray at the grave sites of biblical figures Elazar and Itamar, near Shechem (Nablus).
By: World Israel News Staff
Some 400 Israelis on Tuesday night visited the biblical-era graves of Elazar and Itamar, situated in the town of Awarta, near Shechem (Nablus), Arutz 7 reported.
Elazar and Itamar were the sons of Aharon, the High Priest when the Israelites wandered in the Sinai Desert prior to their entry into the Holy Land. According to Jewish tradition, the first day of the Jewish month of Av is the anniversary of Aharon’s death.
The worshipers’ visit was heavily secured by IDF troops, as the site is situated within an area under Palestinian Authority control.
Samaria Brigade Regional Defense Officer Major Shlomi Cohen commented, “It’s not often that there is a secured trip to the graves of Elazar and Itamar. Tonight, the visit to Awarta was accompanied by IDF forces, in order to allow organized prayer at the site.”
“Entry to the graves of righteous people is done in a concentrated fashion and is possible through organized coordination with the brigade. This time as well, brigade forces acted in order to ensure order at the site and to ensure the visitors’ safety,” he added.

Knesset animal cruelty bill halting live shipments passes first hurdle

Knesset animal cruelty bill halting live shipments passes first hurdle(Israel Against Live Shipments/Facebook)
A Knesset bill preventing live shipments of animals to Israel gains broad support.

By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News

The Ministerial Committee on Legislation announced Monday that it will throw its support behind a bill sponsored by Likud MK Mickey Zohar to phase out live animal shipments to Israel over the next three years.

If the bill becomes law, businesses will have to reduce their importation of sheep and calves from Europe and Australia by at least 25% a year, starting almost immediately.

According to government figures, an astounding 363,456 such animals were shipped to Israel during the first half of 2018 alone, which represented a 36% increase over the same period last year.

Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel has declared in the past that he would reduce the number of such transports.

The impetus for the law is the recent revelation in various media of the cruelty these animals suffer on their long trips to the slaughterhouse, which aroused the pity of politicians and the public alike.

The sea voyage could take weeks, say the explanatory notes to the bill, and many of the animals get sick. “They are kept in overcrowded conditions, wallowing in their feces…suffering from extreme heat and injuries.”

A court ordered that an Israeli minor suspected of being an accomplice in the Duma arson be released to home arrest.
By: World Israel News Staff

A court on Thursday ordered that an Israeli minor suspected of being an accomplice in the Duma arson, which claimed the lives of three members of a Palestinian family, be released to house arrest.

The unnamed minor, together with Amiram Ben Uliel, 23, are charged with membership in a terrorist organization and the planning the July 2015 firebomb attack in the village of Duma near Shechem (Nablus) in Samaria. Ben Uliel is also charged with executing the attack in which three members of the Dawabshe family were burned to death and a fourth suffered severe injuries.

The release comes after two and a half years of arrest, which included intense interrogation by the Shin Bet (Israel’s Security Agency).

The minor is reportedly suffering from poor physical and mental health

He was released under severe constraints, including a required electronic ankle bracelet, court-approved oversight and a ban on his communications. The execution of the order was withheld until Sunday, allowing the prosecution to appeal.

Last month, the court ruled that confessions in the case obtained through the use of “enhanced interrogation” techniques were inadmissible as evidence. However, the court ruled that key confessions repeated later were valid.

Minister of Justice Ayelet Shaked on Wednesday night expressed her hope that the court would act with benevolence and enable the minor to conduct his defense outside prison.

Offering general advice, she recommended that both sides learn from the latest developments and not rush to pass verdicts based on headlines in the media.
