Fatah welcomes Hamas pledge to try to end Palestinian split
September 18, 2017

Hamas announced that it has accepted key Abbas demands for ending a decade-old Palestinian political and territorial split.

President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah movement on Sunday welcomed a pledge by its Hamas rival to accept key conditions for ending a decade-old Palestinian political and territorial split, but said it wants to see vows implemented before making the next move.

Repeated attempts at reconciliation have failed since the militant Hamas drove forces loyal to Abbas from the Gaza Strip in 2007, a year after defeating Fatah in parliament elections. The takeover led to rival governments, with Hamas controlling Gaza and Abbas in charge of autonomous enclaves in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Earlier Sunday, Hamas announced that it has accepted key Abbas demands for ending the split. This includes holding general elections in the West Bank and Gaza, dissolving a contentious Gaza administrative committee and allowing an Abbas-led “unity government,” formed in 2014 but until now unable to start operating in Gaza, to finally assume responsibility there.

The announcement came after separate talks by Hamas and Fatah delegations with Egyptian intelligence officials in Cairo in recent days.

Egypt relayed Fatah demands to Hamas that as a first step, it must dissolve the administrative committee, its de facto government in Gaza, and allow the unity government to take charge.

“We accepted that as a sign of our good will toward reconciliation,” Hamas official Hussam Badran told The Associated Press.

“The administrative committee is now dissolved and the government can come to Gaza today to assume its responsibilities and duties,” he said.

Azzam al-Ahmed, a Fatah participant in the talks, said Hamas and Fatah agreed to meet in Cairo within 10 days, during which time the national unity government should assume its responsibility in Gaza.

Mahmoud Aloul, another Fatah official, told the Voice of Palestine radio that the news from Cairo is encouraging, but that “we want to see that happening on the ground before we move to the next step.”

Hamas has been greatly weakened by an Israeli and Egyptian blockade, three wars with Israel and international isolation. Gaza’s economy is in tatters and residents of the territory have electricity for only a few hours a day. In recent months, Abbas has stepped up financial pressure on Hamas, including by scaling back electricity payments to Gaza, to force his rivals to cede ground.

No Guarantees Deal Will Succeed

Still, there were no guarantees that this deal will succeed where others failed.

In previous deals, including one brokered by Egypt in 2011, both sides professed willingness to reconcile, but ultimately balked at giving up power in their respective territories.

A key sticking point in the past was Hamas’ refusal to place its security forces in Gaza under the control of an Abbas-led unity government.

It also was not clear how Egypt’s latest effort aligns with its previous tacit support for a separate Gaza power-sharing deal between Hamas and Mohammed Dahlan, an exiled former Abbas aide-turned-rival.

Bahrain monarch calls for religious tolerance, denounces boycotts on Israel

Bahrain monarch calls for religious tolerance, denounces boycotts on IsraelBahrain’s King Hamad (AP/Evan Vucci)
Authored by King Hamad al Khalifa, who reportedly has approved visits to the Jewish state, the Bahrain Declaration on Religious Tolerance calls for religious tolerance.

The Bahrain Declaration on Religious Tolerance, described by the Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) as a “plain-speaking attack against terrorism,” authored by King Hamad al Khalifa of Bahrain, was released last week at an historic event co-sponsored SWC at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles.

“The document, the first of its kind to be written by an Arab head of state, calls for people of all faiths to show respect for, and protection of, the rights of everyone to practice their religious affiliations in dignity and peace,” SWC announced.

“Every individual has the freedom to practice their religion, providing they do no harm to others, respect the laws of the land, and accept responsibility, spiritually and materially, for their choices,” the Bahraini declaration reads.

Representing his father, Prince Nasser bin Hamad al Khalif signed the declaration along with Rabbi Marvin Hier, SWC founder and dean. A 40-person delegation from Bahrain accompanied Prince Nasser to Los Angeles and joined in the tour to the Museum of Tolerance, it was announced on the Center’s website .

“Arab diplomats from across the Middle East, along with representatives of 15 nations from five continents and 300 interfaith leaders from around the world represented Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists and Baha’i communities, at the historic gathering,” which included about 600 participants.

“One day the planet is going to be like this hall, Inshallah,” al Khalifa, the event’s main speaker, declared.

“Bahrain is a place where Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists and Hindus live in coexistence,” Rev. Johnnie Moore told the crowd, noting that in addition to hosting one of the oldest Hindu temples, the kingdom is constructing the largest Catholic church in the Arab world.

Any ‘Relevant’ Religion’ Must Denounce Terror

Recalling his visit to Bahrain in February 2017, Hier said the “most exciting part…was listening to His Majesty outline his vision for a new Middle East — one solidly based on the principles of inclusion and human dignity that rejects extremism.”

“If a religion wants to be relevant in the 21st century, it must speak out against terrorist extremism. Otherwise, it’s not really a religion. Anyone born in the image of God has to stand against terrorists… So the Bahrain Declaration is the right time, the right idea and the right place,” Hier stated.

Bahrain Declaration ‘Devoid of Political Correctness’

The Bahrain Declaration “is a statement devoid of political correctness,” Rabbi Abraham Cooper, SWC’s associate dean, said. “It’s exactly the language that millions of people around the world have been waiting for. We know there are moderates, but who is going to stand up and articulate it. So to have an Arab head of state tackle these issues is a game changer.”

The Jerusalem Post reported that Arab officials stood in respect as the Bahrain National Orchestra played “Hatikva,” Israel’s national anthem, preceded by the Bahraini and US national anthems.

King Hamad denounced the Arab boycott of Israel and said his subjects were free to visit the Jewish state, the Post reported.

“May the day come soon when His Majesty’s plane lands at Ben-Gurion Airport, and when the anthems played here tonight will be heard around the world ushering in that long-awaited era of lasting peace and tranquility,” Hier said, according to the Post.

Shifting Sands of Middle Eastern Politics

Bahrain currently does not have diplomatic relations with Israel.

“That the prince would come to the Museum of Tolerance — an unabashedly pro-Israel institution — highlights the shifting sands of Middle Eastern politics in an era in which common enemies and concerns can create strange bedfellows,” the LA Times wrote.

“If I had to predict, I would tell you that the Arab world’s relationship with the State of Israel is going to dramatically change,” Hier said, the Times added. “The king is “ahead of the pack and smart. It is the way to go, and he’s smart. This is a dinner tonight that’s hosted by a Jewish organization that no one will say is not so pro-Israel.”

In another sign of change in the country, the Middle East Media Research Institute posted a video last winter showing a “cleansing” operation by Bahrain’s “Youth for Jerusalem” branch at the location of a menorah-lighting ceremony on the first night of Chanukah, sponsored by king.

Rumors were swirling last week that Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had visited the Jewish state. If true, this would also signal a major change in diplomatic relations between Israel and the Arab world.

Trump administration backs bill to halt aid to Palestinians
September 17, 2017

Print Email
The Trump administration “strongly supports the Taylor Force Act,” which counters the PA policy of paying terrorists and their families, the State Department announced.

The Trump administration declared its firm support Thursday for a bill that would suspend US financial assistance to the Palestinian Authority (PA) until it ends what critics have described as a long-standing practice of rewarding Palestinians who kill Americans and Israelis.

The State Department announcement comes nearly six weeks after the Senate Foreign Relations Committee backed the measure. The legislation, named after an American who was stabbed to death in Israel by a Palestinian terrorist, reflects bipartisan outrage over what lawmakers have termed a “pay for slay” program endorsed by the PA.

“The Trump administration strongly supports the Taylor Force Act, which is a consequence of PA and Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) policy of paying terrorists and their families,” the State Department said.

US President Donald Trump, the State Department added, “raised the need to end any part of this program that incentivizes violence against Israeli and American citizens with President Mahmoud Abbas last May in both Washington and Bethlehem.”

Monetary Incentives for Acts of Terror

The PA has disputed the accusations and called the bill misinformed. Husam Zomlot, chief representative of the Palestinian General Delegation to the US, said last month that the program is more than 50 years old and is aimed at giving support to families “who lost their breadwinners to the atrocities of the occupation, the vast majority of whom are unduly arrested or killed by Israel.”

One of the bill’s main sponsors, Senator Bob Corker (R-TN), chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, said the PA has created monetary incentives for acts of terrorism by paying monthly stipends of as much as $3,500 to Palestinians who commit acts of violence and to the terrorists’ families. The amount of the payment depends on the length of the jail sentence, he said.

Taylor Force was an MBA student at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee and a West Point graduate who was visiting Israel in March 2016 when he was killed.

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said the PA praised Force’s killer as a “heroic martyr.” He estimated that the PA has paid $144 million in “martyr payments” over the years.

Hundreds of millions of foreign aid dollars to the Palestinians are used by their government to finance and promote terrorism. The PA has significantly increased its spending on salaries to terrorists serving time in Israeli prisons and to families of terrorist “martyrs” – those killed while committing acts of terror against Israel. These payments consume half of the foreign aid received by the PA.

According to the PA’s own budget, salaries to incarcerated and released terrorists will amount to 552 million shekels ($153.4 million) in 2017, a 13-percent rise over the 2016 proposed budget and 11 percent more than actual expenditures in 2016. The money will be transferred to the Palestinian National Fund, the financial arm of the PLO, which was designated by Israel as a terror organization due to its involvement in paying terrorist salaries.

Altogether, the expenditures for supporting terror in the 2017 PA budget are 1.24 billion shekels ($344 million). A report by the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs shows that this sum constitutes seven percent of the total budget, similar to the past several years, but amounts to 49.6 percent of foreign aid received by the PA due to the diminishing amount of external aid expected in 2017.

As in previous years, the budget includes benefits to the families of arrested terrorists and of those killed and wounded while committing acts of terror.

Israeli Singer Protects Family from Violent Arab Mob

Israeli Singer Protects Family from Violent Arab MobViolent Arab mob attacks passing car in Jerusalem region. (Flash90/File)
Surrounded by club-wielding Arabs in search of Jewish victims, an Israeli singer defended his wife and children and forced the mob to disperse.

Avi Miller, an Israeli singer who had spent Shabbat in Jerusalem at a hotel near the Mount of Olives, was returning home with his family Saturday night when he suddenly found himself surrounded by a group of approximately 150 Arabs in the A-Tur neighborhood.

According to Miller, the men had blocked traffic and were peering into cars to see if they contained Jews. Miller explained that the Arabs “smash[ed]i any Jewish vehicle with rocks,” reported Arutz Sheva and Kikar Hashabbat. Miller’s car was targeted, with the singer’s terrified children and wife stuck inside.

Miller, who is licensed to carry a firearm, quickly emerged from his car with his weapon drawn in an attempt to ward off the would-be attackers. Firing two warning shots into the air, Miller succeeded in forcing the rioters to disperse.

According to Miller, the rioters left their clubs behind after fleeing the scene. Officers responding to the scene confirmed that Miller had acted appropriately during the attempted attack.

The A-Tur neighborhood is part of Jerusalem and has made it into the news on a number of occasions due to terrorism and incitement.

Attorney-General to Indict Sara Netanyahu Imminently

September 8, 2017

Print Email
Israel’s attorney-general is expected to indict the prime minister’s wife imminently on charges related to fraud and breach of trust.

Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit has notified Sara Netanyahu, wife of the Israeli prime minister, that he plans to indict her.

It is expected that the indictment over issues related to the prime minister’s residence will be served on Friday.

The indictment concerns charges of fraud and breach of trust based on the alleged misuse of state funds for expenses at the Prime Minister’s residence and for elder care for her ill father, in addition to charges related to catered dinners and housekeeping expenses.

Meni Naftali, a former manager of the prime minister’s residence, is expected to testify against the accused. The Netanyahu family says Naftali is a “serial liar and criminal state witness” who cut a deal with police.

“Sara Netanyahu is a courageous and honest woman, and her actions have never been without merit. In addition to her weekly work as an educational psychologist and child care expert, she spends a great deal of time helping children with cancer, Holocaust survivors and lone soldiers,” a statement released Thursday night by the Netanyahu family read.

Fixation on PM’s Food ‘Pathetic and Obsessive’

“The allegations against the wife of the prime minister are absurd and will prove to be baseless,” the statement continued.

“The steep increase in meal expenses at the Prime Minister’s Residence was caused by offenses committed by the problematic Meni Naftali, who is a serial liar and a criminal state witness. The average monthly expenditure on meals ordered during the period Naftali served as of the maintenance head (at the Prime Minister’s Residence—ed) was five times (!) higher than the monthly average of the next four years, when Naftali did not work there. That just says it all.

“Not only did the prime minister’s wife not commit any offense, but the preoccupation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s food – who works around the clock for the state and its security – and with the food of his family, is a pathetic and obsessive one.”

Recently, Sara Netanyahu took a private polygraph test as part of the investigation. The results indicated that she was telling the truth on key issues.

Israeli president warns Germans: Iran could ‘sink whole region into war’

Rivlin warned Merkel that Iran was leading the “subversion” of Muslim youth across the Middle East, threatening Israel and the entire region’s stability in the process.

President Reuven Rivlin concluded a state visit to Germany Thursday, thanking Chancellor Angela Merkel for her country’s commitment to Israel’s security but also calling on Germany to take concrete steps to counter the growing Iranian threat in the Middle East.

The President noted that Iran was leading the “subversion” of Shi’ite youth in Syria and across the Middle East, threatening not only Israel, but the stability of the entire region.

Iran could “sink the whole region into war,” Rivlin said.

Hours after Israeli Air Force jets reportedly attacked a chemical weapons factory in Syria, Rivlin also spoke about Hezbollah’s activities in south Lebanon, backed by Iran, which, he said, endangered the local population and violated UN Security Council resolutions. He also said Israel could be forced to respond to the terror group’s infrastructure buildup.

Rivlin and Merkel also discussed the ongoing civil war in Syria, including Israel’s efforts to treat Syrian fighters and civilians wounded in the fighting, including global Islamic terrorism and the global threat of ISIS.

“The goal that has been set by the world to overcome it is important and correct,” Rivlin said. “Israel will help in any efforts to realize this goal.”

Rivlin also said that Israel and Germany share a wealth of common goals and cooperate “in every field according to the common needs of both countries.

Netanyahu: Ties with Arab world ‘stronger than ever’
September 6, 2017

Netanyahu looked forward to the Jewish new year while praising Israel’s recent diplomatic successes and breakthroughs particularly with the Arab world.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday declared that Israel’s current ties with the Arab world are unprecedented in its history, and its diplomatic efforts around the globe are constantly breaking new ground.

Speaking at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem to Israeli diplomats during the traditional toast ahead of the upcoming Rosh Hashanah holiday, Netanyahu stated that Israel today is “in a different place; the alliance with the United States – with North America as a whole – is stronger than ever, as are ties with Europe, including developing ties with Eastern Europe. The great breakthrough is to all continents.”

As for the Middle East, “what is actually happening with them has not happened in our history even when we signed the agreements,” Netanyahu said. “There is cooperation in various ways, on various levels, but is not yet out in the open. But what is not yet out in the open is much greater than in any other period in Israeli history. This is a major change. The entire world is changing.”

Regarding Israel’s “return to Africa” and its developing ties with several African countries, the Jewish state is “expanding the scope of technology assistance and it is leading to great interest across the continent,” Netanyahu, who also serves as Israel’s foreign minister, added.

Breakthroughs have also been achieved through major efforts in Asia. “There had not been any real contact with China or significant contact with India and Japan, to say nothing of the Muslim countries, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. This changed at a stroke in the past two years.” Netanyahu recently returned from an historic visit to the two Muslim-majority countries.

He also pointed to “a great change with Russia, … regarding both joining economic and cultural interests and, of course, to achieve – as much as possible – a coordination of expectations and intentions on a strategic level … . The link is being fostered and strengthened by us and by Russia itself.”

Israel and Russia have established a line of cooperation with the Russian army to avoid collisions in Syria. Netanyahu visited Russian premier Vladimir Putin last week.

“These are great changes, a sea change that is happening now, and we will not forget Australia which we visited,” Netanyahu underscored.

Looking Ahead to Latin America

The annual toast was moved up by a week due to what Netanyahu called “success.” He is slated to embark on an historic visit to Latin America next week, the first by a sitting Israeli prime minister. “This is a gigantic bloc that we have not yet visited,” Netanyahu highlighted.

He is slated to take part in a ceremony to mark the terrorist attacks at the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires in 1992 and at the AMIA Jewish Community Center in the city in 1994. The two terror attacks killed 115 people. He will also visit Colombia and Mexico and will meet with regional leaders.

“It is a great market in a large bloc of important countries. There is a breakthrough here…the fundamental assumption was that if we made an agreement with the Palestinians, which we have wanted and still want, it will open the world to us. There is no doubt that it will help, but the world has opened even without it, and it does not detract from the importance of considering tracks and the diplomatic process and normalization,” he explained.

“What there is here is a great change and it is happening despite the fact that, to our regret, the Palestinians have not changed the conditions for a diplomatic agreement which are unacceptable to a large portion of the public, and it is still happening,” Netanyahu expanded.

He said that Israel is succeeding in the diplomatic realm because it is “cultivating two kinds of strength, which together are bringing a third. We are cultivating as policy, economic-technological strength which allows us to cultivate Israel’s military-intelligence strength and their combination gives diplomatic strength and this is a different concept.”

A Polish official attempted to omit Jewish chapters from Poland’s history. It cost him his job.
Poland’s tourism minister announced Wednesday he fired the head of the national tourism organization after he said he wanted to remove the Auschwitz death camp memorial and a Jewish history museum from tours for foreign journalists.
Witold Banka said on Twitter he was dismissing Marek Olszewski immediately over “scandalous remarks” the head of the Polish Organization of Tourism made in Wednesday’s Gazeta Wyborcza daily.
The newspaper quoted Olszewski as saying he wanted to “promote the values of Poland’s culture” and had “no need to show places and events relating to the history of other nations.”
According to the paper, he had removed the site of the former Nazi death camp of Auschwitz and POLIN Museum of the History of Poland’s Jews, in Warsaw, from tours for foreign journalists.
“Auschwitz is not a tourism product but a place of martyrdom and deep thought, while we do promotion of Poland as a tourist attraction,” Olszewski said.

Iran has denied a US request for more vigilant enforcement of the Iran nuclear deal. Will Trump exit from the pact?
Iran on Tuesday dismissed US demands for the inspection of Iranian military sites by the UN nuclear watchdog, shrugging off a request by America’s ambassador to the UN as only a “dream.”
Iran’s government spokesman Mohammad Bagher Nobakht told reporters that the demand by US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley wasn’t worth any attention. Iran will not accept any inspection of its sites and “especially our military sites,” he said.
In remarks broadcast by state TV, he said the sites and all information about them are “classified.”
Last week Haley said the US wants inspections of Iranian military and non-military sites to determine its compliance with the landmark 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers. The deal saw Iran cap its nuclear activities in return for lifting of crippling sanctions.
The US and Israel suspect that Iran is using its military bases to proceed with the development of its nuclear program, while using the guise of “classified bases” to conceal their illicit actions.
The US demand for inspections is one element of a more aggressive approach to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. While the Trump administration seeks to police the existing deal more strictly, it is also working to fix what Trump’s aides have called “serious flaws” in the controversial agreement that — if not resolved quickly — will likely lead Trump to pull out.
In a televised interview later in the day, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani also rejected the demands, saying “regulations dictate our relations with the (International Atomic Energy) Agency, not the United States.”
He said Iran was still committed to the nuclear agreement, but “we do not accept bullying.”

Ambassador Danny Danon announced a “victory for Israel in the Security Council” regarding the adoption of a new resolution forcing the UN peacekeeping mission to act against Hezbollah’s buildup.
Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon on Wednesday welcomed the adoption of a new Security Council resolution regarding UNIFIL’s mandate.
According to the decision made upon the annual renewal of this mandate, UNIFIL, the UN’s peacekeeping mission, is now required to expand its reports to the Security Council and take deliberate action against Hezbollah’s violations. UNIFIL’s presence on the ground will increase significantly, and troops will be required to tour the Hezbollah-controlled areas of southern Lebanon.
UNIFIL must also report all instances of Hezbollah’s violations and attempts to deny access immediately.
“This is a significant diplomatic achievement that could change the situation in southern Lebanon and expose the terror infrastructure that Hezbollah set up on the border with Israel,” Danon stated. “The resolution requires UNIFIL to open its eyes, and forces it to act against Hezbollah’s terror buildup in the area. We will continue the fight against Hezbollah and ensure that UNIFIL fulfills its duties on the ground.”

The bones of Jews “will end up in city dumpsters,” laments an activist fighting to stop construction of luxury apartments over Jewish cemeteries in Belarus, according to a JTA report.
A court in Belarus has rejected a motion to prevent construction of apartments atop two former Jewish cemeteries, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA) reported.
Construction of apartments above a former Jewish cemetery in Gomel, eastern Belarus will take place despite a motion filed against the building plans by an American Jewish activist for the preservation of Jewish heritage sites in his native country.
The ruling at the Tsentralny District Court allowing continuation of the housing projects both in Gomel and Mazyr means that the bones of Jews “will end up in city dumpsters,” Yakov Goodman, who filed the motion, told JTA.
Last year, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makai and Lesley Weiss, chair of the U.S. Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad, signed a joint declaration at the World Jewish Congress headquarters, stating, “Each party will take appropriate steps to protect and preserve properties that represent the cultural heritage of all national, religious, or ethnic groups that reside or resided in its territory,” according to JTA.
Goodman, however, believes that the signing has encouraged authorities “to further attacks on Jewish heritage sites,” the report said.

Israel will not agree to release Hamas terrorists in exchange for Israeli bodies, Liberman clarified.
Israel must not repeat the mistakes made in the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange with Hamas, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said Sunday in the wake of criticism directed against the government following Thursday’s resignation of Lior Lotan, the government official charged with negotiating the release of Israeli civilians held by Hamas and the return of the bodies of Israeli soldiers killed during the 2014 Gaza war.

Following Lotan’s resignation, the family of Lt. Hadar Goldin, one of two Israeli soldiers whose bodies are believed to be held by Hamas, said they felt “abandoned” by the government.

“Following Lior’s resignation, we feel that we have been abandoned by the government,” the family said in a statement. “Lotan’s resignation comes as no surprise, given recent events. Beyond the words ‘the government is doing everything to bring back Hadar and Oron [Shaul]’ the sad reality is that nothing has been done to bring the boys back.”

The US is demanding that the UN mission in Lebanon take meaningful action against Hezbollah’s military buildup.
US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley sharply criticized the UN peacekeeping commander in Lebanon on Friday, saying he is “blind” to the spread of illegal arms and reiterating a demand that he take action against it.
With the peacekeeping mission up for renewal next week, the US has been pressing to step up efforts to tackle what Haley describes as a “massive flow of illegal weapons” to Hezbollah-dominated southern Lebanon, where neighboring Israel has long complained that the terror group operates with impunity.
The peacekeeping commander, Maj. Gen. Michael Beary, said there’s no evidence it’s actually happening and pushed back this week on US and Israeli criticism. The Irish general told The Associated Press that his force has no evidence of weapons being illegally transferred and stockpiled in the area, and that “if there was a large cache of weapons, we would know about it.”

Syrian rebels told to come to terms with Assad’s survival

The Syrian opposition’s chief backers are now more concerned with preserving their own interests than with unseating Assad, which could benefit Israel, as the US is focused on containing ISIS and Saudi Arabia on limiting Iran’s influence.
As Damascus reverses military losses in much of the country’s strategically important West and foreign states cut support for rebel forces, diplomats from Washington to Riyadh are asking representatives of Syria’s opposition to come to terms with President Bashar Assad’s political survival.
The country’s civil war has crossed the halfway point of its seventh year and Assad and his allies are now in control of Syria’s four largest cities and its Mediterranean coast. With the help of Russian air power and Iranian-sponsored militias, pro-government forces are marching steadily across the energy-rich Homs province to reach the Euphrates River valley.
Western and regional rebel patrons, currently more focused on advancing their own interests rather than accomplishing regime change in Damascus, are shifting their alliances and have ceased calls on Assad to step down.
“There is no conceivable military alignment that’s going to be able to remove him,” said former U.S. Ambassador to Syria Robert Ford, now a fellow at the Middle East Institute in Washington, D.C. “Everyone, including the U.S., has recognized that Assad is staying.”

Vatican worried by ISIS threats on Pope

The Vatican’s security remains on high alert amid new threats against the Pope.
Pope Francis’ top aide says a pro-Islamic State (ISIS) group video that targets the pope is worrying, but notes Vatican security is already at a high level.
Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Holy See’s No. 2 official, told reporters Saturday that a day earlier he had seen the video, which indicates the pope is a target. Recently, another video, transmitted on the pro-ISIS Telegram channel, suggested that Italy is the next target of an Islamic terror attack.
“Obviously, one cannot help but worry, above all for the senseless hatred that it is,” Parolin said.
But he said the Vatican hasn’t added more measures to its already high security.
The Vatican, headquarters of the Catholic Church, and Italy have previously been identified as possible targets of Islamist terrorism.

Deadliest outbreak of hepatitis A in decades kills 14 in San Diego
AUGUST 29, 2017
Fourteen people have died from an outbreak of hepatitis A in San Diego, and experts believe it to be the deadliest outbreak of the disease in the US in decades, the Guardian has learned. In large part, the victims were homeless people who have had to contend with a lack of 24-hour public restrooms, even though hand-washing is one of the best defenses against infection.
The number of cases has exceeded other large outbreaks, said a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) spokesperson, and is “likely the most deaths in an outbreak in the US in the past 20 years”, the period in which the CDC has operated its electronic reporting system. In 2003, three people died and at least 124 were hospitalized after eating contaminated salsa at a Pennsylvania restaurant. In 2013, 69 people across 10 states were hospitalized after eating contaminated pomegranate seeds.

Hamas leader admits Iran is aiding terror group
August 29, 2017

Hamas’ leader has confirmed what Israel has been long warning about – Iran is backing Hamas’ terror activities in Gaza, as part of its regional plan to annihilate Israel.

Hamas’ new leader in the Gaza Strip said Monday his group has repaired relations with Iran after a five-year rift and is using its newfound financial and military aid to gear up for new hostilities against Israel.

The announcement by Yahya Sinwar came as United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was visiting Israel. At a meeting with the UN chief, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned about the rising anti-Israel activity by Iran and its allies in the region.

Iran was once the top backer of Hamas, an Islamic terror group that seeks Israel’s destruction. But Hamas broke with Iran in 2012 after the group refused to support Iran’s close ally, Syrian President Bashar Assad, in the Syrian civil war.

During a four-hour meeting with journalists, Sinwar said those ties have been restored and are stronger than ever.

“Today, the relationship with Iran is excellent, or very excellent,” Sinwar said. He added that the Islamic Republic is “the largest backer financially and militarily” to Hamas’ military wing.

It was the first time that Sinwar has met reporters since he was elected in February. The 55-year-old Sinwar, who spent two decades in Israeli prison after being convicted of masterminding the abduction and killing of two Israeli soldiers, has close ties with Hamas’ terror wing and takes a hard line toward Israel.

Sinwar would not say how much aid Iran provides his group. Before the 2012 breakup, Iran provided an estimated $50 million a month to Hamas.

Hamas Getting Closer to Egypt

Hamas violently took control of Gaza from the Palestinian Authority in 2007. Since then, it has fought three wars against Israel. Hamas has murdered thousands of Israelis in suicide bombings, shootings and other attacks. It is considered a terrorist group by Israel, the United States and the European Union.

Sinwar stressed that the Iranian aid is for “rebuilding and accumulating” Hamas’ military powers for a larger fight against Israel that is meant to “liberate Palestine.”

“Thousands of people work every day to make rockets, (dig) tunnels and train frogmen,” he said. “The relationship with Iran is in this context.”

He claimed Hamas does not intend to start a fourth war with Israel, instead preferring to remedy dire living conditions in the impoverished coastal enclave.

Israel and Egypt imposed a blockade on Gaza after the Hamas takeover a decade ago, attempting to thwart Hamas’ military buildup. Trying to pressure Hamas and regain control, Abbas has asked Israel to reduce electricity supplies to Gaza.

The result is that Gaza suffers acute power outages of up to 16 hours a day, unemployment of nearly 50 percent and widespread poverty.

Sinwar has turned to Egypt, which has begun to ease the blockade as it seeks Hamas’ help in controlling their border. The Egyptian military has been fighting an Islamic insurgency in the Sinai desert, near Gaza.

Relations with Cairo “have improved dramatically,” Sinwar said. Egypt has recently sent fuel to ease the power crisis in response to Hamas’ building of a buffer zone along the border.

“We will knock on all the doors, except that of the (Israeli) occupation, to resolve the problems,” he said.

Sinwar was among more than 1,000 Palestinians released by Israel in 2011 in exchange for an Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit, whom Hamas kidnapped in 2006.

Sinwar said there would be no new talks over a prisoner swap until Israel frees 54 prisoners released in the Shalit swap that have been re-arrested after returning to terrorism.

“We are ready to start negotiations through a mediator, but only when the table is cleaned. Freed prisoners must feel they are immune.”

Palestinians give Trump 45 days to support two-state solution

August 23, 2017

Setting preconditions for talks, the PA will give the US negotiating team, arriving this week in the Middle East in an attempt to revive the peace process, 45 days to support their terms for a two-state solution.

The Palestinians will present President Donald Trump’s negotiating team with an ultimatum at their upcoming meeting with Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, will arrive in the region on Thursday accompanied by special envoy for international negotiations Jason Greenblatt and Dina Powell, deputy national security adviser. The team, hoping to revive the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah before heading to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan and Egypt.
The ultimatum states that unless progress is made within 45 days on launching talks with the Israelis, the Palestinians will consider themselves no longer committed to the US mediation and will turn to an alternative plan to push for unilateral United Nations recognition of a Palestinian state.

Iran fills the vacuum left by ISIS, Israeli spy chief warnsMossad head Yossi Cohen (Amos Ben Gershom/GPO)

Israeli Mossad head Yossi Cohen cautions against Iran’s growing influence and menacing aspirations in the region, filling the void for ISIS.
Iran is filling the vacuum left by the Islamic State (ISIS) as its hold on territory in Syria and Iraq diminishes, Mossad director Yossi Cohen warned.
Briefing Israeli government ministers last week, Cohen said that the Middle East is “changing for the worse,” as Iran is spreading its influence both directly through Iranian forces and via local proxies in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria and Yemen.
Cohen told the ministers that Tehran has not relinquished its objective of becoming a nuclear threshold state and that the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal with the P5+1 helped the Islamic Republic get closer to its goal and emboldened the regime in its regional aggression.
Cohen noted that Iran’s economy has grown since the signing of the nuclear deal.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Cohen’s warnings are further proof that the nuclear deal is seriously flawed. He pointed out that that Israel was not bound by international agreements signed by Iran, adding that Israel will continue to operate in various ways to protect itself from the Iranian threat.

US officials reportedly refrained from pledging to insist on the the removal of pro-Iranian militias at Israel’s border with Syria.
Israel remains concerned about Iran’s military buildup in southern Syria, at Israel’s northern border, despite high-level discussions between US and Israeli security officials in Washington last week.
The Israeli delegation that visited Washington included Yossi Cohen, head of Mossad and IDF Military Intelligence. The team, which met with US National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, Deputy National Security Adviser Dina Powell, Chief Negotiator Jason Greenblatt and others, was reportedly discouraged by the position taken by the US on Syria.
The delegation was sent to the US to warn against the military deployments by Hezbollah, Iranian forces and the Syrian regime, and to tell the US “exactly what is going on there,” according to officials. Such a military buildup directly threatens Israel.
Trump Administration’s ‘Lack of Clear Position’
Israeli media reports noted that the delegation shared “sensitive, credible and deeply troubling intelligence,” showing the expanding deployment of pro-Iranian forces in Syria, which estimates put at 500 Iranian army soldiers, 5,000 Hezbollah terrorists and several thousand guerrillas from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq.

Iran: We need only 5 days to restart nuclear program

AEOI head Salehi warned that Iran could return to producing nuclear-bomb grade material within five days.
Ali Akbar Salehi, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), warned Tuesday that the Islamic Republic would need only five days to ramp up its uranium enrichment to 20 percent, a level at which the material could be used for a nuclear weapon.
“If there is a plan for a reaction and a challenge, we will definitely surprise them,” Salehi, who also serves as one of Rouhani’s vice presidents, stated on Iranian state television. “If we make the determination, we are able to resume 20 percent-enrichment in at most five days.”
“Definitely, we are not interested in such a thing happening. We have not achieved the deal easily to let it go easily. We are committed to the deal and we are loyal to it,” he asserted.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani issued a direct threat to the West last week, claiming his country is capable of restarting its nuclear program within hours — and quickly bringing it to even more advanced levels than in 2015, when Iran signed the nuclear deal with world powers.

Billy Joel wears yellow Star of David at New York concert

Celebrity Billy Joel’s donning of a yellow Star of David at a Madison Square Garden concert was surprising, given his previous criticism of performers pushing their political agendas.
Famous American singer/songwriter Billy Joel made a strong statement Monday evening at New York’s Madison Square Garden, where he wore a yellow Star of David for his concert performance.
Ahead of World War II, Jews in Nazi-occupied Europe were forced to wear a yellow Star of David as a means of identifying themselves as Jews.
Joel, 68, was born Jewish but is not religiously observant and considers himself a cultural Jew. Known to refrain from making political statements onstage, his choice of attire – clearly a political statement – was unusual.
“I try to stay out of politics. I am a private citizen and I have a right to believe in my own political point of view, but I try not to get up on a soapbox and tell people how to think,” he told Rolling Stone Magazine in June.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will travel to Russia on Wednesday to meet with President Vladimir Putin regarding the threatening situation in Syria, fueled by Iran.
“Tomorrow I will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. I will be joined by the head the Mossad and the head of the National Security Council. I will discuss with him Iran’s accelerated attempt to establish a military presence in Syria,” Netanyahu announced Tuesday evening through his media adviser.
“This attests, of course, to Iran’s aggression which has not lessened in the wake of the nuclear agreement. This also presents a problem not only to Israel, but rather to all the nations of the Middle East and the entire world,” he declared.
Netanyahu held a security consultation earlier in the day regarding the trip.
“Israel has no objection to a (peace) agreement in Syria, but we are firmly opposed to such an agreement in which Iran and its proxies will be left with a military presence in Syria,” Netanyahu told Putin in a previous meeting.

A US State Department report on religious freedom criticized Iran, Jordan, Egypt and Qatar for their prevalent state-sponsored and state-promoted anti-Semitism.
The US Department of State released last week its annual report on religious freedom in the world, which shows persistent levels of deep-rooted anti-Semitism in the Middle East, including two neighboring Arab countries with whom Israel has peace treaties.
The main sources of persecution vary among countries, with Iran spearheading the group of regime-driven incitement against the Jewish people, while Jordan, Egypt and Qatar face criticism in the report for allowing the widespread expression of anti-Semitic sentiments in private and state-owned media with impunity.

Japan minister sees unity with Trump, wants pressure on N. Korea

Print Email 4 Comments
“Things have never been easier. We can have solid talks,” Japan’s foreign minister said about the Trump administration, adding that what is needed now is increased pressure on North Korea.
Japan’s new foreign minister is a reputed renegade, famous for bashing his ruling party’s policies with stands against nuclear power and for stricter checks on foreign aid.
Taro Kono, appointed earlier this month, said he won’t abandon his pet issues, but will make sure to send a united message when representing his country to the outside world.
In comments to reporters Tuesday at the Foreign Ministry, Kono was the mark of diplomacy when referring to Japan’s relations with the U.S., its most important ally.
He said he saw no divisions or confusion in the administration of President Donald Trump in his recent talks with officials, including Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Ambassador to Japan William Hagerty.
“Things have never been easier,” he said. “We can have solid talks.”
When asked about how some observers found Washington divided and confusing, Kono acknowledged that some changes were inevitable simply because Trump is a Republican, unlike his predecessor, Barack Obama.
But he said the basics of Japan’s relationship with the U.S. have remained the same, and such solidarity was important given the crisis over North Korea‘s nuclear and missile programs.
Kono, who has always tended to take a tough stand on North Korea, said continued pressure, not dialogue, is what is needed now to get it to abandon its nuclear weapons program.
Rhetoric between Washington and North Korea has heated up since the North’s two intercontinental ballistic missile tests last month. Some Japanese worry that regional tensions may escalate and that North Korean missiles may fly over Japan because of the North’s threat to launch missiles into waters near Guam.

Israel arrests Palestinian for inciting violence and terrorism on Facebook
August 21, 2017

Israel again takes action against a Palestinian using social media as a weapon.

Israeli police arrested a Palestinian over allegations that he incited violence and terrorism and expressed support for the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group on Facebook, an Israeli police spokesperson announced.

Police spokeswoman Luba Samri stated on Sunday that the suspect, in his 40s from the Hebron area, was detained last Friday and was remanded on Sunday.

She said the case was opened several months ago after Israeli police monitored posts which he shared on his Facebook page expressing support of ISIS and its activities, including videos depicting executions carried out by the group.

She added that the suspect had been sharing such posts from 2015 until the present, and that he was detained “due to the seriousness and danger of posts that incite violence and terrorism.”

She said the investigation was ongoing.

Israel has recognized the threat emanating from incitement to terrorism spread on Facebook and has successfully acted against those who use social media as a weapon, helping to reduce a trend of attacks against Israelis.

Israel’s Haaretz reported in April that Israeli forces have detained at least 400 Palestinians in less than a year over incitement on social media.

Speaking in July 2016, Israel’s Minister of Internal Security Gilad Erdan slammed Facebook and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg for what he said was their partial responsibility for the wave of Palestinian terror attacks, which is fanned by incitement posted on Facebook and other social media outlets.

Erdan said that “part of the blood of the murdered is on Facebook’s hands,” and demanded that the social media network take action to combat the phenomenon.

“Facebook has become a monster,” the Israeli minister charged. “The discourse of the younger [Palestinian] generation on the web, all the incitement and lies, it all occurs on this platform. I am in support of Mr. Zuckerberg conducting self-monitoring.”

A Palestinian terrorist was shot dead by Israeli forces on Saturday at the Tapuach Junction in Samaria as he attempted to stab Israeli border policemen stationed at a checkpoint.

One soldier, 21, was lightly wounded from a ricochet, and taken to a hospital for treatment.

The terrorist was identified as Qutaiba Zahran, 17. On Sunday morning, IDF forces arrested one of the terrorist’s relatives.

The Israeli prime minister publicly condemned anti-Semitism and racism three days after the Charlottesville car-ramming attack in which a neo-Nazi killed a young woman and wounded several others.
Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu communicated his dismay about the hate rallies and violence in Virginia three days earlier, which ended with several people wounded and the death of a 32-year-old counter-protester. “Outraged by expressions of antisemitism, neo-Nazism and racism,” Netanyahu declared via his “PM of Israel” Twitter account. “Everyone should oppose this hatred,” he added.
While race had been a primary focus of the Charlottesville rally on Saturday, organized by a patchwork of “white nationalist” groups, including neo-Nazis and even Klansmen, the demonstrators’ chants devolved into anti-Semitic tropes at various points.

Israeli President shocked by anti-Semitism at Virginia rally, stands with American JewsPresident Reuven Rivlin (Yonatan Sindel/Flash90) Rivlin expressed shock over anti-Semitism displayed at a recent US white supremacist rally, but said American leaders would succeed in dealing with “this difficult challenge.”
Israeli President Reuven Rivlin expressed his “support and solidarity” in a letter to Malcolm Hoenlein, executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations and the wider American Jewish community.
“The very idea that in our time we would see a Nazi flag – perhaps the most vicious symbol of anti-Semitism – paraded in the streets of the world’s greatest democracy, and Israel’s most cherished and greatest ally is almost beyond belief,” Rivlin wrote in the missive.
“We have seen manifestations of anti-Semitism again and again arise across the world; in Europe and the Middle East. In the face of such evil, we stand now as we did then….With faith in humanity, with faith in democracy, and with faith in justice. I know that the great nation of the United States of America and its leaders will know how to face this difficult challenge, and prove to the world the robustness and strength of democracy and freedom.”

A van rammed into a crowd in a popular Barcelona district in what police say was a terror attack. At least 14 people are dead and 100 injured. Police in Spain have confirmed there are fatalities after a white van slammed into pedestrians in Barcelona’s historic Las Ramblas district Thursday afternoon.
Catalan police tweeted that “there are mortal victims and injured from the crash” without specifying numbers. The Barcelona-based La Vanguardia newspaper is reporting at least one dead and 20 injured.
The El Pais newspaper and various local media reports said police were treating the crash as a terror attack.
In a photograph on public broadcaster RTVE, three people were lying on the ground in the street of the northern Spanish city, apparently being helped by police and others. Other videos showed five people down and recorded people screaming as they fled the scene.

MK Yehudah Glick Sets Up Camp in Front of Temple Mount to Protest Netanyahu’s Ban [WATCH]

“In the days to come, The Mount of Hashem’s House shall stand Firm above the mountains; And it shall tower above the hills. The peoples shall gaze on it with joy.” Micah 4:1 (The Israel Bible™)

On Monday, Member of Knesset (MK) Yehudah Glick defiantly set up his office outside the entrance to the Temple Mount for a day in order to protest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ongoing ban against MKs visiting the holy site.

“The Temple Mount is a place that is open free to everyone – Jews, Christians and Muslims. Only MKs are not allowed up on the mount,” Glick, a member of Netanyahu’s own party, the Likud, told Breaking Israel News. “It is against the law – illegal and absurd.”

Netanyahu instated the ban nearly two years ago during a rise in deadly violence and terror around the country in an attempt to avoid “provocations” and to de-escalate tensions surrounding the Temple Mount and the Old City.

Since then, Glick said, the prime minister promised several times to cancel his mandate against MKs going up on the mount – after Passover, after Ramadan and then again at the end of July. But each time, Netanyahu extended the mandate instead.

“Enough is enough,” Glick said with a closed fist. “I am not going to go through another series of holidays not being able to go on the Temple Mount. The time has come to change this decision.”

Glick, a leading advocate for equal right to prayer on the Mount (currently, only Muslims are permitted to pray), temporarily moved his office to the gate through which Jewish paratroopers famously entered in 1967 to reclaim the Mount. It is the site where the Lt. Gen Motta Gur uttered the iconic statement, “The Temple Mount is in our hands.”

“Going up on the Temple Mount is important for every Jew. It is the only place in the world that a Jew is obligated to go to, it is the place upon which the Divine presence rests,” declared Glick.

He believes the ban also carries an important message which weakens Israel’s position in Jerusalem. Netanyahu’s move to forbid MKs to go up on the Mount indicates that the Temple Mount is not “truly” under Israeli sovereignty, he explained to Breaking Israel News.

He added that the Knesset symbolizes Israeli sovereignty more than anything else.

“I cannot tolerate [the situation] anymore,” said Glick. “It is quite absurd.”

The MK said today’s protest is a first in a series of acts he plans to hold to push the prime minister to decide in his favor. Though he would not reveal his next steps, Glick said he and his followers would not stop until the issue rises to the top of the prime minister’s agenda and, ultimately, is reversed.

Glick’s decision to make a stand at the Temple Mount has a personal element as well. His wife Yaffa, who in years past joined him in his crusade for Jewish rights on the Mount, recently suffered a serious stroke, and is currently being cared for in a long-term nursing facility in Jerusalem. The lawmaker shared that during this personal crisis, the Temple Mount is the only place he would like to go to pour out his heart.

Major Upcoming Solar Eclipse Holds Divine Moral Warning for America: Rabbi
https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/93188/major-solar-eclipse-recalling-egyptian-plague-darkness-divine-message-us/?By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz August 14, 2017 , 12:30 pm
“And in that day —declares my God— I will make the sun set at noon, I will darken the earth on a sunny day.” Amos 8:9 (The Israel Bible™)
An eclipse of the sun. (Shutterstock)
The Biblical plague of darkness will be dramatically replayed next week when a rare solar eclipse transits across the full width of the United States. This astronomical phenomenon, unique in the entire solar system, is described in ancient Jewish sources which one rabbi interprets as a divine warning specifically targeting the United States.

On August 21, a total solar eclipse will mark a trail from the Northwest US to the Southeast Atlantic Seaboard. The eclipse will occur on the last day of the Hebrew month Av, a day known as Yom Kippur Katan, the “small day of repentance.” The morning after the eclipse, Jews will begin blowing the shofar every morning for a 40-day period of profound repentance leading up to Yom Kippur. This corresponds to the 40 days Moses was on Mount Sinai atoning for the Jewish people.

The upcoming eclipse is exceedingly rare and viewed from a larger perspective, the heavenly bodies are creating a picture that clearly has divine import. Though it has been 99 years since an eclipse travelled the length and breadth of the US, the next such occurrence will be in just seven years. On April 8, 2024, another total solar eclipse will transverse North America, but the visible path will go in the opposite direction, passing from the Northeast to the Southwest.

The “path of totality” of the August 21, 2017 solar eclipse across the continental US. (Wikimedia Commons)
The paths of the two eclipses form a transcontinental ‘X’. In a strange coincidence, the only spot in the path of both eclipses, receiving a double-dose of this modern plague of darkness, and the point of the longest duration for both eclipses, is a part of southern Illinois known, appropriately enough, as Little Egypt.

Just as the original plague of darkness was meant as a warning to Egypt, Rabbi Lazar Brody, an American-born Hasidic rabbi and teacher, understands this present-day manifestation to be a divine message.

“In Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism), the sun represents the nations of the world, and the moon represents Israel,” Rabbi Brody told Breaking Israel News. “This eclipse is only over the United States. That is a shout from above, saying, ‘America, get your act together, Come back to the Almighty and cast away all your legalization of what the Torah calls abominations’.”

Rabbi Brody explained that the message implicit in an eclipse is that God’s light has not been extinguished.

“Through man’s actions, God’s influence in the world is being hidden in a state of hester panim (hiding God’s face),” Rabbi Brody explained.

Rabbi Brody quoted the Talmud (Succah 29a) which states that if an eclipse appeared in the West, it is a sign that idol worship has prevailed.

“Idol worship isn’t only bowing down to idols. In the US, there are people who worship homosexuality and perversion, one of the reasons the Talmud states for a solar eclipse.”

The divine significance of the event is emphasized by the fact that as far as scientists can discern, solar eclipses are unique to planet Earth. Ira Machefsky, an amateur astronomer with 60 years of experience, explained this unlikely confluence of circumstances.

“The moon is 400 times smaller than the sun but they appear to be the same size in the sky,” Machefsky explained to Breaking Israel News. “But the moon almost precisely blocks out the sun when it passes between the sun and the earth. This is because the sun is approximately 400 times further away from the earth than the moon.”

Though a man of science, Machefsky sees the Hand of God in this unique placement of the sun and moon.

Total solar eclipse
“No other planet in our solar system has solar eclipses because the odds of this happening precisely as it does on Earth are so infinitesimally small,” Machefsky explained. “Scientists have yet to discover another planet that has solar eclipses. They call this Earth’s ‘grand coincidence’, but I call it ‘the causal proof of the existence of God’.”

Machefsky explained that the moon is moving away from the Earth at the rate of one centimeter every year, and in the future, the moon will appear smaller in the sky, making solar eclipses a thing of the past.

“Eventually, there won’t be solar eclipses,” Machefsky said. “This unique phenomenon will disappear from the universe.”

Though the nation of Israel is unaffected by the upcoming solar eclipse, spiritually and celestially, stargazers in Israel were treated to a partial lunar eclipse just one week ago. Since the moon is the heavenly body that represents Israel, Rabbi Brody understood that as bearing a message for the Jews.

“This lunar eclipse said to me that there is a blemish in the faith of the Jews,” Rabbi Brody said. “And I am not talking about the non-religious. The religious Jews need to repent even more. Faith and mitzvot (Torah commandments) lift us above the stars. When we cling to Hashem above, we don’t have to worry about what’s happening in the world below.

“But when Jews cling to the ways of the American lifestyle,” Rabbi Brody warned, “We lose that connection with Hashem (God).”

Netanyahu blasts minister for ‘undermining’ him amid corruption scandal

Netanyahu blasts minister for ‘undermining’ him amid corruption scandalPM Benjamin Netanyahu (Hillel Maier/TPS)
Netanyahu went on the offensive, accusing his transportation minister of planning to replace him should he be forced to resign.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu went on the offensive Tuesday, attacking a senior cabinet member, assumed to be Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz, for “undermining him”, and allegedly planning to replace him should he be forced to resign amidst multiple corruption scandals.
“He can continue to make plans for replacing me all he wants,” Netanyahu said. “We’ve heard about a ‘senior Likud minister’. Let him go on making plans. You all know who it is. Can we say his name out loud yet? Where’s the shame in saying his name?!”
Public broadcaster Kan said Netanyahu had reportedly told party activists that political elements to his right are trying to topple his government before adding “I don’t know what they want from me.”
“I don’t see there is any problem here,” Netanyahu said. “We are talking about bribery and breach of trust with respect to Case 2000 (the accusation that he colluded with Yedioth Aharonot publisher to promote legislation to close the Yisrael Hayom newspaper, a pro-Netanyahu competitor to Yediot, in exchange for favorable coverage).
“There are 40 people who voted in favor of a bill to close the newspaper Yisrael Hayom and they are accusing me of bribery and breach of trust? Is anyone investigating them? What led them to propose this law?” Netanyahu declared.

Jordanian king’s rare trip to Ramallah seen as warning to Israel

Abdullah’s visit to the PA – his first since December 2012 – signals that Amman is siding with Ramallah on the Temple Mount crisis and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Jordan’s king flew by helicopter to Ramallah on Monday — a rare and brief visit seen as a signal to Israel that he is closing ranks with the Palestinians on key issues, most notably the Temple Mount crisis.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Abdullah II met for about two hours, after a red-carpet welcome for the monarch at the Palestinian government compound in Ramallah.
The two leaders discussed the recent showdown with Israel over the Mount – administered by the Jordanian Muslim Trust since Israel captured the Old City of Jerusalem in June 1967 – including confronting alleged Israeli attempts to expand its role there, said Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki.

Ambassador Haley challenged the UN chief’s demand that Israel “stop violations of Lebanese airspace,” which essentially equated Israeli defense measures with Hezbollah terror strategies.

US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley did not mince words in her response to demands by the world body that Israel cease its military operations against the Hezbollah terror army, which operates on its border with Lebanon. Specifically, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, “Israel must withdraw its forces from Lebanese territory and stop violations of Lebanese airspace.”
Guterres was apparently referring to Israel’s defensive measures, necessitated by the free reign Hezbollah had been given by Lebanon and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which was assembled “to confirm Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon” and “monitor the cessation of hostilities.”
Guterres’ comments are in line with the UN’s historically anti-Israel posture and its record of singling out the tiny Jewish state for censure, criticism, and generally unequal treatment.

Al Jazeera booted from Israel for supporting terror

After accusations of inciting terror in Israel during the Temple Mount crisis, the Qatari-controlled network now finds itself booted from the Jewish state.
On Sunday, Israeli Communications Minister Ayoub Kara announced an official request to revoke the credentials of Al Jazeera journalists in Israel and to shutter the company’s Jerusalem headquarters.
The move was prompted in large part by Al Jazeera’s dubious coverage of the events surrounding the recent Temple Mount crisis, which was initially sparked by three Arab terrorists who murdered in cold blood two Israeli policemen on duty at the holy site. After the Israeli government installed much-needed security measures on the Temple Mount compound, where the terrorists had stashed their weapons in the Al-Aqsa Mosque prior to the attack, massive rioting and violence by Palestinians ensued.
Most tragically, a Palestinian terrorist barged into the home of the Salomon family on Sabbath eve and stabbed to death three family members who had gathered to celebrate the birth of a baby boy.

In a rare instance of aligned Israeli-Palestinian interests, Palestinian leaders are lobbying Jordan to reopen the Israeli embassy in Amman.
In a bizarre twist to what began as a tense diplomatic standoff between Israel and Jordan, Palestinians are demanding that King Abdullah II reopen the Israeli embassy in Amman. The Israeli government office has been closed since the end of July, when an Israeli security guard killed a Jordanian terrorist attempting a stabbing attack with a screwdriver.
After initially refusing to release the security guard, whose name Jordanians later leaked in a transparent to attempt to facilitate revenge by vigilantes, the 28-year-old Israeli was permitted to return to his homeland. When the guard received a warm welcome from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Jordanians demanded a full criminal investigation into the incident, refusing to permit Israeli embassy employees to return without a trial for the guard.
The diplomatic shutdown in Amman apparently had unintended consequences, however, with hundreds of passports stuck in limbo in the shuttered Israeli embassy. According to Israel Hayom, the passports belong either to Jordanian citizens of Palestinian origin or businessmen connected with the Jordanian royal family.
These individuals are seeking Israeli entry permits to visit family or to close deals but can’t travel anywhere outside the Hashemite kingdom without their passports.

Analysis: Al Jazeera – the terrorist propaganda network
August 7, 2017
Analysis: Al Jazeera – the terrorist propaganda networkAl Jazeera bureau, Jerusalem (Hillel Maier/TPS)
Networks have their biases. But none comes close to Al Jazeera‘s persistent role as the biggest promoter of terrorist propaganda.
By John Rossomando, The Algemeiner
Al Jazeera‘s support for terrorism goes far beyond on-air cheerleading. Many of its employees have actively supported Al Qaeda, Hamas and other terrorist groups. In fact, concerns over the network’s consistent pro-terrorist positions prompted several Gulf States to demand that Qatar shut the network down in June.
Sheikh Said Bin Ahmed Al-Thani, director of Qatar’s government information office, called such demands “a condescending view [that] demonstrates contempt for the intelligence and judgment of the people of the Middle East, who overwhelmingly choose to get their news from Al Jazeera rather than from their state-run broadcasters,” in Newsweek.
But a week earlier, United Arab Emirates Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash detailed Al Jazeera‘s connections to terrorists and terror incitement in a letter to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. Al Jazeera constantly violates a 2005 UN Security Council resolution that calls on member states to counter “incitement of terrorist acts motivated by extremism,” Gargash charged.

Report: Arab League undermines Israel’s bid for Security Council seat

The Arab League is reportedly working to undermine Israel’s bid to win a seat on the UN Security Council next year.
By: Barney Breen-Portnoy/The Algemeiner
The Arab League is working to undermine Israel’s bid to win a seat on the United Nations Security Council next year, the Hebrew news site Walla reported on Sunday, citing an unnamed Israeli diplomatic official.
The official said Israel was “concerned” by the Arab League’s activities and would take steps to counter them.
Israel is the only country in the Middle East never to have held a Security Council seat. The 10 non-permanent spots — which are two-year terms — on the 15-member council (the five permanent members are the US, UK, France, Russia and China, all of which have veto power) are allocated in accordance with regional blocs.
Since 2000, Israel has been part of the Western European and Others Group (WEOG).
The elections for the 2019-2020 term will be held in June 2018. To get a Security Council seat, Israel will have to receive the support of at least two-thirds of the 193 members of the General Assembly.
Israel’s competitors for the WEOG seats are Belgium and Germany.

US Senate advances bill to stop ‘sick’ Palestinian terror salaries

Congressmen unequivocally condemn official Palestinian salary-for-terror policy, as the Taylor Force Act passes a key hurdle.
By: Ben Cohen, The Algemeiner
US lawmakers denounced on Thursday the Palestinian Authority’s “sick” policy of paying salaries to terrorists and their families after the Senate Foreign Relations Committee passed the Taylor Force Act — which conditions $300 million of annual aid from the US on the PA ending the policy.
The committee approved the act by a 17-4 vote on Thursday morning, Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN), the committee’s chairman, announced.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said the principal aim of the bill, which will now return to the Senate for a vote during the fall session, was to prevent the PA from providing financial incentives for acts of terrorism.
“If you’re a young Palestinian, maybe the best thing you can do for your family in terms of income is to become a terrorist,” Graham said. “That’s sick.”
The act is named in memory of Taylor Force — a former US Army officer and veteran of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars who was murdered in Tel Aviv in a Palestinian stabbing attack in March 2016. The 28-year-old Force, a Vanderbilt University graduate student, had been visiting Israel as part of a school-organized spring break trip.
“This is a big day for the Taylor Force family,” Graham said at a press briefing following the vote. “This bill will cut off all funding to the PA until they change their laws which reward terrorism, which reward people for killing a young man like Taylor Force. I don’t want his death to be in vain.”
Corker said that the legislation “will force the Palestinian Authority to make a choice: either face the consequences of stoking violence or end this detestable practice immediately.”
Corker added that interviews with several Palestinian prisoners had shown that part of their motive for engaging in terror was to “ensure that they did something egregious enough to at least get a five-year sentence, where the payment is stepped up.”
“That’s sick. That’s sick,” Corker emphasized.

“The only downside of coming to Israel is that as soon as you get here, you realize how much more there is to see in such a short time.”
By Steve K. Walz, Exclusive to World Israel News
It makes no difference whether you are the “First Lady” of prime-time TV or the iconic “King of Hard Rock,” Israeli hotels in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem treat every one of their VIP guests like royalty, which is why a growing number of Hollywood TV stars and rock legends are coming back to the Holy Land for “private visits” sans the hoopla.Am
During the past five years, Israeli music business entrepreneurs and American Jewish organizations alike have invested substantial sums of money to bring some of the biggest names in the music world and Hollywood to the Holy Land. In the case of the musical stars, it’s business mixed with pleasure. With the Hollywood celebs, Jewish organizations such as America’s Voices in Israel in tandem with various Israeli government ministry’s, underwrite the cost of their visit within the context of seeing and experiencing the “other Israel.”
Five star hotels such as the Dan Tel Aviv and David InterContinental in Tel Aviv, along with the Inbal, Mamilla and King David Hotels in Jerusalem are only too happy to host both the rock stars and Hollywood celebs.

Police arrested another 15 suspects in connection with last week’s rioting in Jerusalem.
Israeli forces arrested 15 Palestinians in several Jerusalem neighborhoods late Wednesday night, as Israeli forces continued to crack down on Palestinians who participated in the riots surrounding the Temple Mount.
Earlier in the week, Israeli forces netted 33 Palestinians in Jerusalem for leading and instigating the violent incidents, bringing the number of Palestinians detained this week to 48.
Israeli police spokesperson Luba Samri said that the Palestinians were detained over “violence and disturbing the order in Jerusalem,” which included rock-throwing and blocking roads.
She added that some were also detained for setting fire to trash cans, throwing Molotov cocktails and shooting fireworks at Israeli forces during the clashes.
These violent actions “put the lives of others at risk and caused injuries to a number of police officers,” Samri added.
Meanwhile, Samri said that Israeli authorities had also extended the remands of 31 of the 33 Palestinians arrested during earlier raids.

Israel’s first-ever single malt whisky goes on sale

The Milk & Honey Distillery has put the first-ever single malt whisky produced in Israel on an online auction.
Israel’s first whisky distillery is chalking up a new achievement with the first international auction of an alcoholic beverage produced in Israel.
The first bottles will be sold at the whiskyauctioneer.com international online public auction, which begins August 11 and runs for a period of 10 days, as a special edition (1-100) of the “experimental series” for the first-ever single malt whisky produced and bottled in Israel.
The whisky is kosher. The distillery is very strict about the kosher certification of its products, ingredients and process, and its employees do not work on the Sabbath.
The Milk & Honey Distillery was founded in Tel Aviv, the first modern Hebrew city, in order to produce the first Israeli whisky, and it embodies the Israeli pioneer and entrepreneurial spirit.
After a three-year aging process in barrels, the product falls under the definition of whisky in Scotland and most countries around the globe.
Distillation of the barrel was done at the distillery’s early stages, ahead of the move to its new location in south Tel Aviv as well as before the current industrial equipment was purchased and the crowdfunding campaign was launched on Indiegogo.
International Expert Served as Consultant
The barrel was distilled in January 2014 at a kibbutz in the Sharon region by head distiller Tomer Goren together with the late master distiller Dr. Jim Swan, as part of his role as consultant to the distillery at the time. Swan, who passed away at the beginning of February 2017, never had the opportunity to taste his first Israeli masterpiece. Swan was considered an international expert on the production of whisky in warm climates and served as a consultant to leading distilleries around the world.

Netanyahu and Liberman, supported by the right, are calling for Elor Azaria, an IDF soldier who shot a neutralized terrorist, to be pardoned.
In March 2016, Elor Azaria, a combat medic stationed in Hebron, fired a fatal shot at a neutralized terrorist as he lay wounded on the ground after committing a stabbing attack against the soldier’s colleagues.
Azaria was sentenced in February to 18 months in prison after being found guilty of manslaughter. An Israeli military court in Tel Aviv on Sunday rejected his appeal, in which the defense maintained he felt his life was in danger, saying he thought the terrorist could have been carrying a bomb on his body.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, supported by politicians on the right, are calling for the soldier to be pardoned.
“My opinion has not changed on the question of granting a pardon to Elor Azaria, as I expressed it after the [January] conviction,” the prime minister tweeted as soon as the appeal was rejected. “When the subject comes up [in the context of pardon deliberations], I will offer my recommendation for a pardon to the relevant authorities.”

While covering the funeral of an Arab killed fleeing a crime scene, an Israeli reporter and cameraman became the victims of an Arab mob’s rage.
In a horrific attack during an Arab funeral procession, two Israelis found themselves at the center of what they could only subsequently describe as a “lynch mob.” The two Israelis, reporter Gilad Shalmor and photographer Gal Zeitman of Israel’s Channel 2, received a savage beating after arriving in Jaffa to document the funeral of a young Arab who was killed by police as he fled a crime scene over the weekend.
The reporter and cameraman made their way to the center of the procession, which involved aggressive shouts of “Allahu akbar.” Before Shalmor and Zeitman knew what was happening, a group of Arabs surrounded them and began kicking and punching them until they fell to the ground.
According to a report by Arutz Sheva, Zeitman posted his painful account on Facebook, detailing the ordeal and the sense of panic he and his co-worker experienced as they realized none of the other attendees had any intention of helping them escape the bloodthirsty mob.
Shalmor also took to social media, posting his own account of the events

A mass anti-Israel rally in Turkey showcased a disturbing soundtrack, including a theme song instructing listeners to “hit, hit Zionists.”
Tens of thousands of people gathered in Turkey to denounce Israel following its introduction of security measures at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, which led to widespread Palestinian violence.
Protesters waved Turkish and Palestinian flags Sunday at the “Great Jerusalem Meeting” in Istanbul’s Yenikapi Square, called by the Islamist Felicity Party. Revelers were serenaded with a jingle that included the lyrics, “Hit, hit Zionists.” One banner proudly waved at the event read, “Down with USA-Israel.”
The Islamist party leader, Temel Karamollaoglu, told the crowd that Muslims would not give up on Jerusalem.
The Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), which has been linked to terrorism, also sponsored the event

Police arrested 33 Arabs in connections with last week’s rioting in Jerusalem.
Israeli police conducted a massive counter-terrorism operation in Jerusalem on Sunday night and arrested 33 Arab residents of the city in connection with the riots that rocked the capital last week.
The suspects allegedly took part in the week-long violence in Jerusalem, blocking roads, hurling rocks and firebombs at police and disturbing the peace.
Several policemen were wounded during the violent clashes, while three rioters were killed and dozens were wounded.
Seven of the suspects are minors, the youngest aged 13.
The police said they were able to apprehend the “hard core” of the rioters.
Using footage of the riots, surveillance and intelligence, police were able to identify and arrest the main instigators.
The riots erupted when Israel placed new security measures on the Temple Mount after three terrorists murdered two Israeli policemen at the site.

Knowing the truth about the Middle East, Iraqis expressed support for Israel in their struggle against the Palestinians.
By: Ben Cohen/The Algemeiner
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s spokesperson for the Arab media reported on Sunday that he had received several messages on social media from Iraqi citizens expressing support for Israel during the violent Palestinian campaign to end the Jewish state’s control of access to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
“I received quite a few messages of support for Israel from Iraqis who condemned Palestinian terrorism because they suffered from it as well,” tweeted Ofir Gendelman, who represents the prime minister’s office in contacts with Arabic-language media.
Gendelman’s post was accompanied by photos of the messages of solidarity in Arabic with Iraqi passports placed alongside them, as proof of origin.

Palestinians Waste Half of Foreign Aid on Terror Payments
Jul 31, 2017
Hundreds of millions of foreign aid dollars to the Palestinians are used by their government to finance and promote terrorism.
The Palestinian Authority (PA) has significantly increased its spending on salaries to terrorists serving time in Israeli prisons and to families of terrorist “martyrs” – those killed while committing acts of terror against Israel. These payments consume half of the foreign aid received by the PA.
According to the PA’s own budget, salaries to incarcerated and released terrorists will amount to 552 million shekels ($153.4 million) in 2017, a 13 percent rise over the 2016 proposed budget and 11 percent more than actual expenditures in 2016.
A report by the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs shows that this sum constitutes 7 percent of the total budget, similar to the last several years, but amounts to 49.6 percent of foreign aid received by the PA due to the diminishing amount of external aid expected in 2017.

Netanyahu supports bill annexing surrounding towns into Greater Jerusalem

A bill strengthening Jerusalem and its environs has received Netanyahu’s support.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday expressed his support for a legislation bill that calls for the incorporation of towns surrounding Jerusalem into the Israeli capital, essentially annexing them to Israel in the process.
The Greater Jerusalem Law, proposed by Member of Knesset (MK) Yoav Kisch, would incorporate Givat Ze’ev to the northwest of Jerusalem as well Beitar Illit and the Etzion bloc of communities, which are situated southwest of Jerusalem, and Ma’aleh Adumim, to Jerusalem’s municipal boundaries – thus creating a greater metropolitan area and, in effect, annexing those Israel communities, which serve as home to some 150,000 Israelis.
The bill also proposes turning Arab villages in the area that lie outside the security barrier into an independent municipality within Greater Jerusalem.

Survey: 77% of Israelis oppose removing Temple Mount metal detectorsMetal detectors outside Temple Mount (Yonatan
Almost four out of five Israelis disagree with removal of metal detectors from the entrances to the Temple Mount, a recent survey finds.
The Israeli public, by an overwhelming margin, is disappointed with the Security Cabinet’s decision to remove metal detectors from the various entrances to Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, according to a survey originally reported by Israel’s Channel 2.
The survey, conducted by the online psychology website Midgam and Israeli internet panel and digital data collection agency iPanel, reveals that 77 percent of respondents believe that the decision to remove the metal detectors was a form of capitulation on Israel’s part. Seventeen percent disagreed with such an assertion.
The metal detectors were placed at the entrances of the Temple Mount after two Israeli police officers were shot and killed at the site by Muslim terrorists who used weapons previously stashed at the mosque compound. Subsequently, Palestinians rioted in protest of the new security measures, and the Palestinian Authority suspended “all ties” with Israel.

Israel has dismissed Erdogan’s accusations against the Jewish state regarding the Temple Mount crisis as well as his call to Muslims for Holy War.
Israel dismissed and even ridiculed accusations leveled by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who claimed Israel was exploiting the fight against terrorism as a pretext for taking over the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
Speaking to lawmakers of his AKP Party on Tuesday, Erdogan welcomed Israel’s removal of the metal detectors, but said Turkey would not accept measures that treat Muslims wanting to pray as “terrorists.”
Israel has removed the new metal detectors in an attempt to deescalate the tensions surrounding the issue. However, it has plans to install a network of smart cameras to meet the security requirements at the site.

Palestinians still boycotted the Temple Mount and called for further violence, despite Israel’s removal of metal detectors.
Muslim worshipers on Wednesday morning continued their boycott of the Temple Mount and once again held their morning prayers outside the holy site, despite Israel’s removal of the metal detectors that sparked the latest round of violent protests.
The morning prayers were preceded by Palestinian riots around the Old City of Jerusalem on Tuesday night.
Wednesday’s prayers came a day after Israel seemingly capitulated to the weeklong Palestinian violence and removed the security measures installed at the site after Arab terrorists shot and killed two Israeli police officers at the compound.

Two senior ministers are demanding that the terrorist who slaughtered three civilians in their home in Samaria be put to death.
Minister of Education and Diaspora Affairs Naftali Bennett, chairman of the Jewish Home party, has called on the IDF’s prosecution to demand the death penalty for Omar al-Abed, the Palestinian terrorist who butchered three family members in their home on Friday night.
Minister of Defense Avigdor Liberman concurred with Bennett’s call to have al-Abed executed.
“The option of the death penalty exists in military courts. There is no need for special legislation; only a request [for it in court]. I call on the military prosecution to demand the death penalty for the terrorist who murdered the Salomon family,” Bennett stated after visiting the family’s home.
“In such an extreme case, there is indeed room to impose the death penalty and that is within the jurisdiction of the Judea and Samaria military courts,” Liberman told Ynet  on Sunday. Liberman has long supported the death penalty for Palestinian terrorists.

US State Dept Slammed for Blaming Israel for Palestinian Terror
B’nai B’rith International slammed a US State Department report blaming Israel for Palestinian Arab terror and violence, JTA reported.
Last Thursday, B’nai B’rith International harshly criticized the US State Department for releasing a report that largely blames Israel for Muslim aggression, according to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA).
“It is astonishing that [the Department of] State is parroting the false Palestinian narrative,” said B’nai B’rith in its statement.
“If it were not released by the State Department, it would be easy to mistake the inflammatory and accusatory language as coming directly from the Palestinians.”
The new US State Department report clearly blames Israel for Arab terrorism, citing a “lack of hope in achieving Palestinian statehood, Israeli settlement construction in the West Bank, settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank, the perception that the Israeli government was changing the status quo on the Haram Al Sharif/Temple Mount, and IDF tactics that the Palestinians considered overly aggressive.”

Turkish leader: Muslims won’t remain silent over Temple Mount
 July 23, 2017
Turkish President’s inflammatory rhetoric singles out Israeli security measures on the Temple Mount.
Turkey’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, condemned Israeli security precautions at the Temple Mount, threatening that the Islamic world would not remain silent.
Erdogan addressed reporters Sunday in Istanbul before departing on a visit to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar.
“No one can expect the Islamic world to remain unresponsive after the humiliation Muslims suffered with the restrictions at the Noble Sanctuary,” he stated.
Earlier last week, Israel installed metal detectors at the shrine following a deadly attack by Muslim terrorists there who killed two Israeli policemen.
Palestinians perceive the metal detectors as an encroachment on the rights of Muslims, who have blamed the security measures for their protests in various spots throughout the world.
Erdogan called on Israel to remove the detectors in a phone conversation with his counterpart Reuven Rivlin on Thursday.

After a terrorist murdered three family members in their home, preceded by the death of three Arabs who rioted against heightened security in Jerusalem, Guterres “call[ed] on all to refrain from any actions or words that could further escalate an already volatile situation.”
The countries that comprise the international Quartet say they are concerned about “escalating tensions and violent clashes” in and around the Old City of Jerusalem.

They called on all sides to show “maximum restraint, refrain from provocative actions and work towards de-escalating the situation.”
The envoys welcomed assurances by Israel’s prime minister that “the status quo at the holy sites in Jerusalem will be upheld nd respected.” And they encouraged Israel and Jordan to work together to uphold it.

Defense Minister: We can cope without PA security coordination
Liberman says Israel can cope without security coordination with the Palestinians and that it’s the Palestinians who will lose out.

The Israeli Defense Minister emphasized that the security coordination basically benefits the Palestinian Authority.

Israel continues its efforts to counter Palestinian terrorism and violence.
Israeli security forces arrested 25 members of the Hamas terror group at various locations throughout Judea and Samaria over the weekend, part of their stepped-up counter-terrorism actions in the wake of escalated tension in the past week.
Israel augmented its forces in the Judea and Samaria region and placed them on high alert after the terror attack in Halamish on Friday night, in which a Palestinian terrorist murdered three family members in their home on the Jewish Sabbath.
On Saturday morning, IDF soldiers searched the terrorist’s family home in the village of Kobar and detained one of his brothers, the IDF said.
Soldiers searched the house and measured it in preparation for demolition. Anticipating this, local residents said the family emptied its home of valuables. Later, clashes erupted as residents burned tires and hurled rocks at Israeli troops who had searched the home. The military says about 50 people attacked troops who fired back with rubber bullets and tear gas.
The terror attack followed a day of violent Palestinian riots, which erupted over tensions at the Temple Mount. Three Palestinians were killed in street clashes.

The Trump administration strongly condemned Friday’s terror attack and backed Israel in its closure of the Temple Mount.
The White House on Saturday backed Israel’s closure of the Temple Mount following a terror attack on Friday, in which two Israeli policemen were murdered, and condemned the attack in a strongly-worded statement.
“The people of the United States are heartbroken that terrorists brutally gunned down two Israeli police officers,” said Press Secretary Sean Spicer. “There must be zero tolerance for terrorism. It is incompatible with achieving peace and we must condemn it in the strongest terms, defeat it, and eradicate it.”

WATCH: Brave Muslim Woman Bashes UN at Abraham’s Tomb
A brave Muslim woman bashed UNESCO for denying Jewish ties to the Old City of Hebron, including the Cave of the Patriarchs.
Sara Zoabi, an Israeli Muslim Arab, spoke out against the UN’s anti-Israel bias, despite having received death threats the last time she stood up for the Jewish state.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) not only declared the Tomb of the Patriarchs and Matriachs in Hebron to be a Muslim mosque, but even went so far to accuse Israel of endangering the “Palestinian World Heritage Site.”
In actuality, it’s Israel that has removed any danger to the site, safeguarding it and allowing all faiths to pray there. Under Muslim rule, by contrast, Jews were forbidden to pass the seventh step on a staircase outside the Tomb.

Report alleges Saudi king secretly contacted Israel on Temple Mount crisis

Report alleges Saudi king secretly contacted Israel on Temple Mount crisisPresident Donald and First Lady Melania Trump and King Salman (AP/Evan Vucci)
 Print  Email  10 Comments
The Saudi monarch reportedly sent a message to the Jewish state via the US in an effort to solve the Temple Mount crisis.
On Tuesday, the London-based Arabic media outlet Elpah reported that the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud contacted Israel via the Americans in an effort to defuse the crisis following the terrorist murder of two Israelis on the Temple Mount. It was reportedly the Saudi king’s personal intervention via the White House that prompted Israel to reopen the Temple Mount to Muslim worshipers.
While Israel reopened the site just two days after the attack, the Palestinian Authority and the Jordanian Waqf, an Islamic Trust that Israel entrusted to oversee Temple Mount activities, incited raucous protests in response to necessary security measures such as metal detectors.
According to unnamed sources quoted in the Elpah report, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed the Saudis via the Trump Administration that the status quo remains on the Temple Mount. Israel’s neighbor Jordan was allegedly also involved in the communication process.
Saudi officials were reportedly invited by Israel’s Prime Minister to visit the al-Aksa Mosque in order to see for themselves that the status quo is maintained on the Temple Mount. Riyadh has so far not responded to the Israeli invitation.

Negotiations for Hamas-Israel prisoner exchange reach a standstill

Negotiations for Hamas-Israel prisoner exchange reach a standstillIsraeli captive Avera Mengistu (Social media)
Indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel have reached a deadlock over Israel’s demand for proof that its captured citizens are indeed alive.
The Lebanese paper Al Akhbar reported that Israel had offered to free an unknown number of Arab minors, women and Hamas parliamentarians. In return, Israel wants live video documentation as evidence that Avera Mengistu, Jumaa Ibrahim Ghanima and Hisham Al Sayeed are still alive.
According to the Hezbollah-affiliated Al Akhbar, Hamas rejected Jerusalem’s offer. Gaza’s Islamist rulers reportedly demanded that Israel free 55 Palestinian prisoners as a precondition for releasing the requested video material. These prisoners were in fact released during the Shalit deal and later rearrested by Israel. IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, captured in 2006, was freed in 2011 in exchange for 1027 Palestinian prisoners.
Egypt is coordinating the talks between Israel and Hamas and has reportedly suggested that the deal include the release of the bodies of IDF soldiers Oren Shaul and Hadar Goldin, who were killed during the Gaza war in 2014. Hamas has so far refused to comply.

WATCH: Fatah Quotes Abbas in Calling for More Terror!
The Fatah party of Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas uses its leader’s own words to call for an escalation in terror.
Mahmoud Abbas, who heads the Palestinian Authority (PA), Fatah and the PLO, took no measures to stop the Fatah party from rebroadcasting his own words to incite Arabs to commit more terror.
Official PA TV broadcast Abbas’s 2014 terror-inciting speech no fewer than 19 times over the past three days, in the wake of a terror attack by Israeli Arabs at the entrance to the Temple Mount.
The only way to put an end to the deadly rampage was to follow the armed terrorists as they fled to the Temple Mount. Yet PA TV repeatedly played Abbas’ order to prevent Jews from entering the area, essentially demanding that Israel not act to stop terror attacks.

IDF fully exposes its massive humanitarian aid program for Syrian civilians

IDF fully exposes its massive humanitarian aid program for Syrian civiliansAn IDF soldier feeds a Syrian baby. (IDF)
The IDF exposed the full extent of its massive humanitarian aid to Syria, known as “Operation Good Neighbor.”
The IDF on Wednesday fully exposed for the first time the extent of its humanitarian aid to Syria, including the provision of lifesaving medication, dozens of tons of clothes and hundreds of thousands of liters of fuel and food, as part of “Operation Good Neighbor.”
The IDF mission began over four years ago, when an injured Syrian came to the border asking for medical help from the IDF. Back then, there was no policy, just a commander’s on-the-spot decision to provide care to an injured civilian. Since then, the aid has continued on a near-daily basis.
In June 2016, as part of a decision to expand humanitarian aid efforts, the IDF Northern Command established the headquarters of Operation Good Neighbor, an operation dedicated to Syria’s citizens in distress. The objective is to provide humanitarian aid to as many victims as possible, while delicately balancing this effort with Israel’s policy of non-involvement in the Syrian civil war, which has destroyed the country over the past six years.
The first activities coordinated by the headquarters took place in August 2016. Since then, there have been more than 110 aid operations of various kinds.
“Based on my 20-year medical career, I can truly say that the medical care we have provided to our neighbors here in the north of Israel is one of the most significant efforts to treat those in need that I have ever witnessed,” said Col. Dr. Noam Fink, Chief Medical Officer of the Northern Command. “I deeply hope that our contribution will have a direct impact on the lives of our Syrian neighbors.”

Israeli security forces eliminated a Palestinian terrorist who attacked them during an operation.
A Palestinian terrorist was shot and killed by IDF forces on Thursday in Gush Etzion as he attempted to stab them.
The troops, who were operating in the Palestinian village of Takua, were attacked by the knife-wielding Palestinian. They responded to the threat by shooting the terrorist dead.
No Israelis were wounded in the incident.
Palestinian sources named the terrorist as Mohamed Hussien Tanuh, 20.
Palestinians rioted at the spot of the incident after the attack, causing damage to Israeli vehicles passing near and subsequently forcing the police to shut down the route.
This attack comes just two days after a terrorist rammed his car into two IDF soldiers who were manning a checkpoint near the Palestinian town of Beit Anoun, in the Hebron area.
The two soldiers were lightly wounded, while the terrorist was shot dead.

US demands Hezbollah end weapon stockpiling
American UN ambassador Nikki Haley blasts Hezbollah for stockpiling arms and demands UN action to stop it.
On Wednesday, American UN Ambassador Nikki Haley slammed Hezbollah for stockpiling weapons in southern Lebanon that threaten the region, and Israel specifically. In a meeting with UN’s special Lebanon envoy Sigrid Kaag, Haley demanded that the UN halt Hezbollah’s destabilizing activities. The meeting took place before Thursday’s scheduled Security Council meeting concerning the UNIFIL peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon.
The US mission to the UN released a statement stressing the gravity of the situation in southern Lebanon. The statement explained, “Ambassador Haley expressed alarm over the build-up of weapons by Hezbollah, a situation that demands the international community’s attention to prevent the further escalation of regional tensions.”
Haley, who is supportive of the Jewish state, demanded stronger UN action to defuse Hezbollah’s arms buildup against Israel.

Senator John McCain, war hero and close friend of Israel,  has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Sen. John McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, Vietnam prisoner of war, political maverick in Congress for more than three decades and a close friend of the state of Israel, has been diagnosed with an aggressive type of brain tumor.
The 80-year-old Arizona lawmaker has glioblastoma, according to doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, where McCain had a blood clot removed from above his left eye last Friday. He and his family are considering further treatment, including chemotherapy and radiation.
“Subsequent tissue pathology revealed that a primary brain tumor known as a glioblastoma was associated with the blood clot,” his office said in a statement late Wednesday.
The American Cancer Society puts the five-year survival rate for patients over 55 at about 4 percent.

Netanyahu unabashedly told the Irish foreign minister what he thinks of his country’s biased stance against Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met on Tuesday in Jerusalem with Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney and chided him for his country’s consistent support for the Palestinians against Israel.
The Israeli leader, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, “expressed his dissatisfaction over Ireland’s traditional stance and told the foreign minister that his country does not condemn Palestinians for incitement and for glorifying those who commit terrorist attacks.”
He also asked “why Ireland helps NGOs that call for the destruction of Israel,” the statement read.
For instance, Ireland supports Breaking the Silence (BtS), a radical left-wing NGO that publicizes anonymous testimonies allegedly given by of former IDF soldiers in order to harm the Israeli military.
Ireland, along with many European countries, ignores the main issue of the conflict, which is not the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria or the “occupation,” but the Palestinians’ refusal to recognize the Jewish state, Netanyahu charged.

Israel denies committing to construction freeze in Judea and Samaria

Netanyahu’s office denies commitment was made to slow construction, a claim recently reported by Arab media.
As US President Donald Trump’s administration prepares to facilitate peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, Arab media outlet Al-Hayat claimed that Israel had agreed to slow down construction in Judea and Samaria, reported Ynet News. According to Al-Hayat, Trump’s special advisor and Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt relayed to a Palestinian delegation that Israel would place constraints on construction during peace negotiations.
In response to these reports, Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office announced, “There is no such commitment.”
Greenblatt allegedly made the comments while meeting with the PLO Executive Committee, headed by Saeb Erekat. The meeting took place during Greenblatt’s “interim visit” this week, which serves as a precursor to Trump’s anticipated announcement of new peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.
Building Jewish homes in Judea and Samaria remains a point of contention for the Palestinians, who consistently seek to frame construction in that region as an obstacle to peace

Polls show Benjamin Netanyahu remains the top choice for Prime Minister of Israel.
While recent political coverage in Israel has been dominated by the Labor Party’s selection of a new leader, Avi Gabbay, polls suggest that Israelis prefer the sitting prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and his party. Polls conducted by Channel 2 and Channel 10 showed Netanyahu and the Likud scoring a sizeable lead over Gabbay and Labor.
Of those polled by Channel 2, 34 percent preferred Netanyahu for prime minister, with 13 percent choosing Gabbay. Third and fourth place in the poll went to Yesh Atid’s Yair Lapid, with a nod from 12 percent of respondents, and Jewish Home’s Naftali Bennet receiving 6 percent.
In addition to gauging support for individual candidates, the polls also demonstrated that Netanyahu’s Likud party would garner more seats in the Knesset than the Zionist Union, the coalition with which Gabbay’s Labor Party is aligned, if the elections were held today.
Indeed, both polls showed Likud taking at least five more seats in the Israeli parliament than the Zionist Union. Channel 10’s poll showed Likud claiming 29 seats to Zionist Union’s 24, while Channel 2 projected Likud with 25 seats and Zionist Union with 20.

2 Arabs charged for aiding terrorists in murder of Israeli policewoman

2 Arabs charged for aiding terrorists in murder of Israeli policewomanStaff Sergeant Hadas Malka (Social media)
Two Arabs were charged with negligent homicide for their part in a recent terror attack in Jerusalem that resulted in the death of a young policewoman.
An Jerusalem Arab with Israeli citizenship and a Palestinian were charged Wednesday with negligent homicide for their part in the terror attack in the capital last month in which Policewoman Staff Sergeant Hadas Malka was murdered.
Arrested shortly after the attack, they are suspected of having illegally driven undocumented Palestinians into Jerusalem, including the terrorists.
“Anyone who drives illegal aliens into Israeli territory needs to know and expect that a terrorist may be among them, seeking to carry out an attack, meaning that on a certain level he is an accomplice to the terror attack and its severe consequences,” police said in a statement.“This is the third time that the police has been able to establish enough evidence to indict drivers of illegals with negligent homicide, after they illegally smuggled into Israel Palestinians who went on to carry out terror attacks,” the statement continued.  The police underscored that they “will reach anyone who was involved in any way, whether directly or indirectly, in terror attacks and will work to prosecute them to the full extent of the law.”
In related news, the IDF informed the family of one the terrorists on Tuesday that their home in Deir Abu Mash’al was slated for demolition. The family was given 72 hours to appeal the decision.
Malka was killed in late June during a double terror attack at the Damascus Gate at the entrance to the Old City.
In the first attack, two terrorists shot at a police patrol at the Damascus Gate and attempted to stab the officers. Both terrorists were shot dead by police.

Under attack, IDF forces kill 2 terrorists in Jenin gun battleIDF forces in action. (IDF)
IDF forces, responding to an attack, killed two Palestinian terrorists.
IDF forces shot and killed two terrorists during a gunfight in the Palestinian city of Jenin early Wednesday morning.
The elite Maglan unit was conducting a counterterrorism operation in the city when they came under a barrage of gunfire and improvised explosive devices. The soldiers fired back, killing two combatants in the process.
Another two Palestinians were reportedly wounded in the battle. There were no Israeli casualties.
Palestinian sources named the dead assailants as 17-year-old Aws Muhammad Youssif Salamah and 20-year-old Saad Nasser Hassan Abd al-Fattah Salah.
The Palestinian Ma’an news agency reported that Salah’s brother is imprisoned in an Israeli jail and his father was permanently disabled after being shot by Israeli forces. The report, however, provided no information on the circumstances surrounding either case.
In related news, IDF forces arrested 21 Palestinians wanted in connection with terrorism at various locations throughout Judea and Samaria. Two are members of the Hamas terror organization.

Canada bans Israeli wines produced in ‘occupied territory’

Canada bans Israeli wines produced in ‘occupied territory’Psagot wines (Screenshot)
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency, a government body, has banned wines from Judea and Samaria because, it says, the label – Product of Israel – is “unacceptable” for wines produced in “occupied territory.”
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has ordered the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) to prohibit vendors from selling wines produced in Judea and Samaria because they are labelled as products of Israel.
In a letter dated July 11, 2017, Vincent Caron, the LCBO’s senior policy adviser, informed vendors that the CFIA had instructed them on July 6 that “Product of Israel” – as these wines are labelled – “would not be an accepting country of origin declaration for wine products that have been made from grapes that are grown fermented, processed, blended and finished in the West Bank occupied territory.”

United Arab Emirates official blasts Al Jazeera’s anti-Semitism

United Arab Emirates official blasts Al Jazeera’s anti-Semitism(Screenshot)
Al Jazeera engages in anti-Semitism, discrimination and incitement to religious hatred, a senior Arab official says.
A top official from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) recently accused the Qatari-run Al Jazeera satellite television station of engaging in anti-Semitism, discrimination and incitement to religious hatred.
Al Jazeera has “promoted anti-Semitic violence by broadcasting sermons by the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Yusuf al-Qaradawi,” according to a letter released by Anwar Gargash, the UAE’s minister of state for foreign affairs.
Gargash added that Qaradawi had “praised Hitler, described the Holocaust as ‘divine punishment,’ and called on Allah to ‘take this oppressive, Jewish, Zionist band of people…and kill them, down to the very last one.’”
The UAE’s letter comes amid a wider dispute between Qatar and its Arab gulf state neighbors. Last month, Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies, including the UAE, cut ties with Qatar for its support for Islamic terrorism and its cooperation with Iran.
Shutting down Al Jazeera is among Arab gulf states’ demands for a restoration of relations with Qatar.

Israel, Palestinians ink historic water deal
 July 13, 2017
Israel, Palestinians ink historic water dealUS Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt (C), Israeli Minister of Regional Cooperation Tzachi Hanegbi (L) and PA Water Authority head Mazen Ghoneim announce water deal in Jerusalem. (Ronen Zvulun/Pool, via AP)
A milestone agreement reached by Israel and the PA should have far-reaching benefits, particularly to the Palestinians, although it remains questionable whether it could help jumpstart peace negotiations.
Israeli and Palestinian negotiators announced a far-reaching agreement Thursday to provide the Palestinian Authority (PA) with 33 million cubic meters of water a year, as part of the Red Sea-Dead Sea Canal project.
At a press conference hosted by United States Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt, Israel’s Regional Cooperation Minister Tzachi Hanegbi and PA Water Authority Chairman Mazen Ghuneim, Greenblatt said the agreement, as well as a deal to open an electricity sub-station in Jenin, are examples of competing sides exhibiting a “pragmatic approach” to solving a regional issue together for the benefit of all sides.
“This agreement allows us to launch the Red-Dead project that is a crucial project for Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian Authority,” he said.
Hanegbi added that the deal “proves that water can serve as a means for reconciliation and cooperation.”

Leading American lawmakers expressed reservations about a law that could significantly curb Palestinian terrorism.
Senate Democratic and Republican lawmakers demonstrated consternation over the Taylor Force Act, legislation that would cut US economic aid to the Palestinian Authority (PA) if it continues to issue payments to terrorists and their families.
At a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing Wednesday, the committee’s chairman, Senator Bob Corker (R-TN), questioned the legislation’s “all or nothing” approach and suggested Israel would not necessarily support cutting funding to the PA due to fear of the PA being weakened.
Corker pointed to calls he received last year from Israeli officials who were concerned about a similar proposal by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) to cut US funding to the PA.
The legislation is named after American war veteran Taylor Force, who was stabbed to death by a Palestinian terrorist who left 10 others wounded in Jaffa last March. Force, 29, served tours of duty in the US Army in Iraq and Afghanistan and was a graduate of the prestigious West Point Military Academy. He was in Israel as part of a Vanderbilt University trip.
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah faction praised the terrorist who murdered Force as a “heroic martyr,” and the PA has yet to condemn the attack.

Rivlin to Irish FM: If Jews Have No Ties to Jerusalem, Irish Have No Ties to Dublin
In a meeting with the Irish foreign minister, Rivlin stressed the importance of recognizing the connection between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel.
President Reuven Rivlin met on Wednesday at his residence in Jerusalem with senior Irish diplomat Simon Coveney, whose visit to Israel was his first outside Europe as Ireland’s foreign minister. They discussed the relationship between the two countries, but the diplomatic process with the Palestinians, regarding which the Irish are notoriously biased in favor of the Palestinians, was the focus of their meeting.
Rivlin noted the Palestinians’ “tragic rejection” of Israel as a Jewish state, or as a state at all, and stressed the importance of recognizing the connection between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel.
Ridiculing a string of resolutions endorsed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) that deny Judaism’s connection to its holiest sites, and specifically that Israel has no connections to Jerusalem, Rivlin said that “to suggest the Jewish people have no connection to Jerusalem, is to suggest the Irish people have no connection with Dublin or Guinness!”
Referring to the ties between Israel and Ireland, Rivlin noted that “the relationship between Israel and Ireland is very important, in spite of differences of opinion which we have from time to time.”
While there is an impression in Israel “that Ireland takes a different position to Israel, can I say that in essence though, we are yearning for the same thing that I think the vast majority of Israelis are, which is a peaceful future,” Coveney stated.

A vandal was recorded carving some 30 swastikas into a New York sidewalk.
An apparently anti-Semitic vandal was caught on camera carving over two dozen swastikas into a freshly paved sidewalk in a Brooklyn neighborhood in front of a building under construction. The owners are Jewish.
Surveillance footage taken at around midnight Saturday shows the vandal, with a flashlight in his mouth and a tool in his hand, drawing some 30 Nazi symbols on a street described by the media as “ethnically diverse.”
The suspect was also proudly taking photographs of his handiwork.
“This guy’s on a mission,” New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind said. “He wants to make a statement, and he does.”
Hikind said crews had just poured fresh concrete that day, arousing suspicion that the vandal lives in the area.

UN Report Says Hamas-Ruled Gaza May Become ‘Unlivable’
Gaza, under Hamas rule, has deteriorated to the extent that it may become unlivable, the UN warns.
A new report by the United Nations (UN) said the Gaza Strip may become “unlivable” by 2020, while Israel said the Palestinian terror group Hamas, which has ruled Gaza for the past decade, is largely to blame for the situation.
According to the report, the population in Gaza is growing faster than the coastal territory’s infrastructure and economy, which are deteriorating more rapidly than expected.
“We predicted some years ago that Gaza would fast become unlivable on a host of indicators and that deadline is actually approaching even faster than we predicted—from health access, to energy to water,” Robert Piper, the UN coordinator for humanitarian aid and development activities, told AFP following the report’s release.
The report said Gaza’s population, which is currently 2 million and is projected to grow to 2.2 million by 2020, is being squeezed as resources like food and clean water become scarcer, and while pollution and energy shortages become more prevalent.
