Is Israel heading to snap elections?
 November 15, 2018
Is Israel heading to snap elections?PM Benjamin Netanyahu leads weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem, July 15, 2018. (Alex Kolomoisky/YEDIOTH AHRONOTH/POOL)
Since Liberman’s resignation, political indicators point to Israel’s return to the ballot to elect a new government.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
A tumultous week on the Israeli political scene points to early elections within 90 days, senior coalition officials estimate.
Minister of Defense Avigdor Liberman announced his resignation on Wednesday, leaving the Likud-led government with a narrow coalition of 61 Members of Knesset.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reacted by saying he had no interest in moving up the elections. He immediately began a round of consultations with senior Likud figures and leaders of the coalition parties in an effort to stabilize the government.
The Yedioth Aharonoth daily quoted a senior coalition official as saying that the prime minister “does not want to give Liberman the credit that he led to the elections and caused the collapse of the government … There is one person who sets the agenda, and his name is Benjamin Netanyahu.”

The departure of Yisrael Beiteinu from the government leaves Netanyahu with a razor-thin one-seat majority in the Knesset.
By Benjamin Kerstein, The Algemeiner
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scrambling to shore up his governing coalition following the resignation of Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, the Hebrew daily Yediot Ahronot reported on Wednesday.
The Yisrael Beiteinu leader resigned on Wednesday in protest of Netanyahu’s “capitulation to terror” —  Liberman’s description of the Gaza ceasefire reached after a surge of violence earlier this week that included the firing of more than 400 rockets into southern Israel.
The departure of Yisrael Beiteinu from the government leaves Netanyahu with a razor-thin one-seat majority in the Knesset.
Further complicating the situation, Education Minister Naftali Bennett’s Jewish Home party issued an ultimatum to the prime minister, saying it would also leave the coalition if Bennett was not chosen to replace Liberman as defense minister. A Jewish Home withdrawal from the government would erase Netanyahu’s Knesset majority and make early elections almost certain.

A Palestinian terrorist attacked police officers with a knife at a Jerusalem police station.
By Associated Press
Israeli police say a knife-wielding Palestinian terrorist sneaked into a Jerusalem police station and lightly wounded four police officers.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says the terrorist climbed over the station’s fence and began stabbing people inside. The attack happened on Wednesday night.
Rosenfeld says other officers shot the assailant and captured him. He was taken to hospital.
The attack came as a fragile truce was reached between Israel and Islamic militants in Gaza that ended two days of heavy fighting. It was the area’s most severe violence since the 2014 Gaza war

Leaders across the political spectrum blasted Israeli Cabinet Member Tzachi Hanegbi for saying rocket fire on the south wasn’t as serious as if it had been on Tel Aviv.
By Jack Gold World Israel News
Minister of Regional Cooperation Tzachi Hanegbi was harshly criticized by politicians and public leaders across the political spectrum following his comment that there was a difference between rockets fired by Hamas at Israel’s south and at Tel Aviv.
Commenting on the violence, Hanegbi told IDF Radio on Thursday that Hamas’ attacks were “minor,” and that they were mostly focused on the area surrounding the Gaza Strip. “Firing at Tel Aviv has another meaning,” he said.
Hamas on Monday night and Tuesday unleashed a barrage of over 460 rockets from Gaza aimed at civilian targets, killing one man and wounding some 80 Israelis at various locations throughout the south. Twenty-three structures inside Israeli communities were hit by the rockets.

Jewish Home party: Give our man defense portfolio or we walk

Jewish Home party: Give our man defense portfolio or we walkEducation Minister and chairman of the Jewish Home party, Naftali Bennett, arrives at the Knesset for a faction meeting following the resignation of Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, November 14, 2018. (Flash90/Noam Rivkin Fenton)
The Jewish Home party threatens to leave the coalition if its leader Naftali Bennett doesn’t get the defense portfolio.
By David Isaac, World Israel News
The ink was barely dry on outgoing Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman’s resignation when the Jewish Home party demanded that its head, Minister of Education Naftali Bennett, be given the defense portfolio or the party will bolt the coalition, forcing early elections.
On Wednesday night, the Jewish Home Party threw weight behind Bennett’s ultimatum, voting unanimously on a resolution demanding the top defense post for their leader.
The faction said it wanted their man running the ministry of defense “in order to change the security policy and reestablish Israel’s initiative and deterrence. A government without deterrence isn’t a right-wing government. If we don’t receive the authority for the national mission to change the security situation together with the prime minister, we have no taste for continuing in the government.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should be praised for caution, mired as he is in a ‘no-win’ situation created by former PM Ariel Sharon.
By Jonathan Tobin, JNS.org
People demonstrated in the streets of Sderot on Tuesday, and who could blame them?
They had spent days running back and forth to bomb shelters and safe rooms, enduring the tension and dangers of being subjected to hundreds of rockets fired at their town, as well as the rest of southern Israel, by Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists from Gaza.
But their reaction to news of a ceasefire between Israel and its foes didn’t bring the usual joy and relief. They were mad that once again, Hamas had terrorized and held hundreds of thousands of Israelis hostage — and gotten away with it.
More to the point, they blamed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for failing them and the country by refusing to respond more forcefully to the 450-plus rockets fired on the country.

The recent outbreak of measles in mostly religious communities in Israel has reached overseas, especially affecting New York and New Jersey.

Rockland County, N.Y., has 68 confirmed cases of measles. New York City’s borough of Brooklyn has 24; Lakewood, N.J., at least 11.
The “culprits,” according to American health officials, are people who recently returned from Israel and unknowingly carried the disease back with them.
According to the Israeli Health Ministry, 1,401 cases of measles have been diagnosed in the country since the beginning of the year. One young child died from the disease.

Analysis: Israeli defense minister’s other reason for resigning

Analysis: Israeli defense minister’s other reason for resigningBedouins and supporters hold Palestinian flags during a demonstration in the illegal outpost of Khan al-Ahmar, September 21, 2018. (Flash90/Yaniv Nadav)
The clock is ticking for Israel’s government to make good on its promise to remove the illegal Bedouin outpost of Khan al-Ahmar.
By Bill Mehlman, World Israel News
The news cycle is currently revolving around Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman’s decision to step down. The main reason he gave, and the only one the media are focusing on, is the Israeli government’s failure to rein in Hamas on the southern border.
Virtually ignored is the second reason he gave — the Netanyahu administration’s failure to evacuate the illegal Bedouin outpost of Khan al-Ahmar.
The clock is ticking on Khan al-Ahmar.  Israel’s Supreme Court has given Prime Minister Netanyahu and his Likud-led coalition until December 2, to move on the Court’s authorization to take down the collection of shacks illegally thrown together 25 years ago in Israeli-controlled “Area C” of Judea and Samaria by members  the Jahalin Abu-Dehuk Bedouin tribe.

Amid protests and government upheaval due to the ceasefire with Hamas, Netanyahu defended the move, saying there were secret considerations.
By Adina Katz, World Israel News
Ahead of Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman’s resignation due to his opposition to the ceasefire deal with Hamas, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the truce agreement, saying there were reasons unknown to the public.
“In times of emergency, when making decisions crucial to security, the public can’t always be privy to the considerations that must be hidden from the enemy,” Netanyahu said at a state memorial service for David Ben Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister, in Sde Boker.
“At these moments, it is not up to leadership to do the easy thing but to do the right thing, even if it is difficult. Leadership is sometimes to be criticized, when you know secret and sensitive things that you cannot share with the citizens of Israel, and in this case the residents of the south, whom I love so much and appreciate,” he added.
“Our enemies begged for a ceasefire, and they knew very well why,” the prime minister stated.
The Egyptian-brokered ceasefire was reached Tuesday evening after Hamas and other terror groups in Gaza launched close to 500 rockets into Israel within 24 hours

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman announced his resignation in a press conference, Wednesday afternoon, expressing dissatisfaction with Israel’s ceasefire with Hamas. He says he will call for immediate elections.
“I announce my resignation,” Liberman said. “Yesterday’s ceasefire, in combination with an agreement process with Hamas is a capitulation to terror. What we’re doing in effect at the moment is buying quiet for the short-term at the cost of our national security in the long-term.”
“The answer we gave to 500 rockets was neither adequate nor enough. From the security interest point of view, we had to finish first of all the issue of the south. The weakness that we revealed broadcasts to other areas,” he said.

During the latest barrage of rockets launched by Hamas against Israel, the State Department said Tuesday that it should not affect the highly anticipated roll-out of the peace plan between Israel and the Palestinians.
Asked by newswire JNS if the rocket attacks will affect the peace plan, department spokesperson Heather Nauert replied, “Not to my knowledge. I think it makes it more urgent” that the plan be released and implemented.
“When you see [rocket attacks], that’s the case for peace right there,” she said.
Briefing reporters at the State Department on Tuesday, before the Egyptian-mediated ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, Nauert reaffirmed the State Department’s support on Monday for Israel’s right to exist.

Refusing to acknowledge the reality that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel is a departure from the way the Times treats other countries.
By Ira Stoll, The Algemeiner
Sunday’s New York Times travel section features an article suggesting “Five Places To Go In Jerusalem.” But readers curious about which country Jerusalem is in get no help from the Times: the article, strangely, doesn’t mention the word “Israel.”
Refusing to acknowledge the reality that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel is a departure from the way the Times treats other countries. The same Times Sunday travel section, for example, also includes an article about Oslo. A Times headline refers to it as “the Norwegian capital,” and the article describes it as “this compact Norwegian city. … Norway’s forward-thinking capital.”
Earlier pieces in the Times’ “Five Places To Go” series included articles about cities that the Times identified as “Düsseldorf, Germany,” and “San José, Costa Rica.”

By World Israel News Staff
A 48-year-old man was killed when a rocket struck his house in Ashkelon late Monday night.
Mahmoud Abu Asbah, a Palestinian worker who hailed from the town of Halhul north of Hebron, was the first fatality since terrorists began firing rockets Monday afternoon. His 40-year-old wife was found in serious condition and evacuated to Barzilai Hospital
A second woman, unconscious and badly injured, was found in the same building and evacuated to Barzilai Medical Center in critical but stable condition.  Magen David Adom paramedic Eyal Chen said, “After the rocket landed, we searched the area, the fire department broke into one apartment which was locked and there we found a 60-year-old woman, unconscious with blast wounds and multiple injuries.”

The U.N. text will transform unrestricted migration into a human right. Will  it increase pressure on Israel to open its borders to illegal immigrants?
By Daniel Krygier, World Israel News
The U.N. drafted a text that will transform unrestricted migration into a human right. It’s called the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration and it seeks to promote and protect migration as a human right.
Most countries, including possibly Israel, are expected to sign the non-binding text in December in Morocco. Will this U.N.-initiated agreement then be used to apply pressure on Israel to open its borders to all migrants?
Israel is one of very few advanced countries that can be reached directly from third world economies without crossing any body of water. By contrast, illegal migrants in Africa or the Middle East who want to reach Europe need to first cross the Mediterranean.
Most of the tens of thousands of illegal migrants living in Israel illegally entered from the increasingly lawless, Egypt-controlled Sinai Peninsula.
As a result, Israel built an expensive, comprehensive border fence along its border with Egypt. Since the border fence was completed in December 2013, the illegal influx of migrants to Israel practically stopped.

A Hamas missile struck a bus in the Shaar Hanegev Region near the Gaza border. One soldier was badly injured but a much greater disaster was narrowly avoided.
By World Israel News Staff
It’s being called a miracle. If it had happened minutes earlier it would have been called a catastrophe.
On Monday afternoon, a Hamas missile struck a bus in the Shaar Hanegev Region near the Gaza border. Only minutes before, 50 young Israeli soldiers had exited just before it exploded.
According to people at the scene, the soldiers disembarked only moments before the Russian-made Kornet anti-tank missile struck the back part of the bus.
One soldier, 19, was gravely injured. He happened to be standing near the bus and received shrapnel to his upper body, chest and head, according to Ynet news. He was evacuated to a hospital.
The bus attack was the start of the latest wave of violence, in which Hamas launched 100s of mortars and rockets at Israel, killing one man in the Israeli coastal city of Ashkelon and wounding dozens of others.

Running constantly to safe rooms during missile strikes from Gaza, Israeli citizens are angry over the government and IDF’s weak response.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
City of Ashkelon residents now join towns like Sderot, Netivot, and other villages closer to the Gaza belt, in running repeatedly to safe rooms over the last 36 hours as Hamas lobbed hundreds of missiles at Israel.
School was cancelled Tuesday across the south for security reasons, including in Beersheba, Ashdod, Kiryat Gat and Kiryat Malachi, which until now have escaped the bombardment.
Citizens as far away as the Lachish region (some 60 km from Gaza) have been told to stay close to their shelters, and the army has ordered that there be no large gatherings in open areas throughout the south for the day.
One Ashkelon resident, Ruthi Mozgorashvilli, ran to safety seconds before a missile hit her apartment on Monday.
“I was alone at home. I ran to the safe room when the siren sounded. Suddenly the whole living-room ceiling fell in. I’m still in shock,” the middle-aged woman told Israel Hayom, describing her moments of sheer terror.
“The safe room saved my life even though I didn’t have time to close its metal shutter. … When it hit, there was such a loud boom. I’ll never forget that boom. When I went out of the room it was completely dark, because the electricity had gone out. I heard people screaming at me, “Get out!”

By JNS and World Israel News Staff
As the latest attacks against Israel from Hamas have taken place in Gaza, the U.S. State Department condemned the terrorist group and reaffirmed that Israel has the right to defend itself.
“We are aware of reports of ongoing rocket and mortar attacks from Gaza against targets in Israel,” a State Department official told JNS on Monday. “We condemn these attacks and call for their immediate halt. We stand with Israel as it defends itself against these attacks.”
According to the Israeli Defense Forces, at least 300 rockets have been fired from the Gaza Strip at southern Israel on Monday amid renewed tensions following the death of an Israeli special-forces soldier earlier in the day, with the Iron Dome missile-defense system intercepting dozens of them, while others have struck Israeli homes and buildings near the border, or have landed in open areas.

A neo-Nazi who named his baby after Adolf Hitler and dressed in Ku Klux Klan robes previously attempted to convert to Judaism at a Jerusalem yeshiva, the UK’s Jewish Chronicle reported Monday.
Adam Thomas, 22, his partner Claudia Patatas, and Daniel Bogunovic, 27, were all tried and convicted by the Birmingham Crown Court of being members of National Action, an illegal neo-Nazi group.
Thomas was also convicted of having a copy of the Anarchist’s Cookbook, which could be used for terrorism purposes.
It was during the trial that the couple, who owned a large collection of Nazi and far-right memorabilia, gave their son the middle name “Adolf.”
Thomas and Patatas will be sentenced in December.

The number of tourists coming to Israel keeps breaking records, with new sources of tourism constantly under development, but many tourists have expressed dissatisfaction recently about their vacations in the Holy Land, Israel Hayom reported Tuesday.
Israel’s tourism industry continued to experience significant growth in 2018, with slightly less than a million (949,000) tourists visiting the country between January and March of this year.
This represents a 30 percent increase over last year’s numbers and 58 percent more than 2016. This influx of holiday travelers and pilgrims injected NIS 4.9 billion into Israel’s economy.

Actor Gerard Butler was taunted for IDF support after sharing photo of burnt California home.
By Shiryn Ghermezian, The Algemeiner
Actor Gerard Butler faced a wave of criticism and taunting from pro-Palestinian activists on social media for supporting Israeli soldiers after he shared a photo of his California home that was destroyed by one of the wildfires currently ravaging the state.
Earlier this month, the “300” star attended the annual Friends of the IDF (FIDF) Western Region Gala in Los Angeles, where a record $60 million was raised for programs assisting Israeli soldiers. The event was hosted by Israeli-American philanthropist Haim Saban and his wife, Cheryl.
On Sunday, the Scottish actor posted on Twitter and Instagram a photo of him standing in front of the smoldering remnants of his Malibu home. He said he was “inspired as ever by the courage, spirit and sacrifice of firefighters,” and asked his fans to support the Los Angeles Fire Department.
In response, Israel haters commenting on his Instagram photo called Butler a “f***ing Zionist,” a “criminal and a piece of human trash for supporting the IDF,” and claimed that his house burned down “because you support murderers.” One Instagram user wrote, “that [is] what you deserve when you support the Zionists” and another asked Butler, “You ever thought it was Gods karma for raising $60 million dollars for IDF soldiers to kill Palestinians? Just a thought.” Another user wrote “Israhell occupied palestinian land but very soon they will be defeated.”

Camp Fire now deadliest and most destructive in California history
(The Watchers) Camp Fire has exploded in size since November 8, 2018, and is now the deadliest and most destructive individual wildfire in California history. On November 12, the death toll climbed to 31 and there are still 121 people missing. As of 19:36 PST, November 11 (03:36 UTC, November 12), the fire has consumed 44,515 ha (111,000 acres) of land and is 25% contained. A total of 6,713 structures have been destroyed (6

453 residences and 260 commercial), making it by far the most destructive individual wildfire in the history of the state. 15,500 structures remain under threat. Sadly, the death toll climbed to 29 on November 11, tying it with the deadliest toll in California’s recorded history and to 31 on November 12, making it the deadliest. However, there are still 121 people missing and the death toll will likely continue rising. The search for missing people continues in destroyed town of Paradise (population 27,000).

Over 228 still remain unaccounted for in deadly California fires.

Over 228 still remain unaccounted for in deadly California fires.
(CBN News) – As wildfires continued to rage on both ends of California, officials released another grim statistic: six more dead in a swath of Northern California wiped out by fire, raising the death toll there to 29. It matched California’s record for deaths in a single fire. Another 228 remain unaccounted for as crews stepped up the search for bodies and missing people. Two people were killed in a wildfire in Southern California. Ten search teams were working in Paradise – a town of 27,000 that was largely
incinerated last week – and in surrounding communities in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Authorities called in a DNA lab and teams of anthropologists to help identify victims. Statewide, 150,000 remained displaced as more than 8,000 fire crews battled wildfires that have scorched 400 square miles (1,040 square kilometers), with out-of-state crews continuing to arrive. Whipping winds and tinder-dry conditions threaten more areas through the rest of the week, fire officials warned.

Israel reportedly has been providing information to the ICC, through a third party, related to Operation Protective Edge.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
Over the past several months, Israel has been giving information to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague, through an unnamed third party, regarding its actions during Operation Protective Edge, Ha’aretz reported Sunday.
The court, through its prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, had opened an investigation of the military campaign against Hamas in the Gaza Strip in the summer of 2014. The Palestinian Authority (PA), which is a member state of the court, requested the probe soon after the operation ended, alleging that Israel committed war crimes during the 51-day conflict.
Israel is not a member of the ICC and maintains that since the PA is not a state, the court has no jurisdiction over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
For the past four years, Israel has resisted dealing with the court’s hunt for information. Now that the preliminary investigation is allegedly coming to an end, having only heard from the Palestinian side, Israel’s political and military echelons have apparently decided to cooperate to an extent.
The Ha’aretz sources stress that at no time did Israel pass on to The Hague raw security data.
Israel has insisted that its actions during the war were legal and in accordance with international law and has received backing from prestigious groups such as the High Level Military Group. These experts in the laws of armed conflict, all retired generals and senior defense officials from Germany, Colombia, India, Spain, Australia, the United States, France, the United Kingdom and Italy, investigated the campaign for months afterward. In 2015 they reported to the UN that Israel had adopted a far-higher level of restraint when attacking Hamas than any other military in an effort to minimize non-combatant casualties, while blaming Hamas for the vast majority of civilian deaths.
The ICC can try individuals, not states, and has no power to detain people. But members of both the Israeli government and the military could be arrested by member states when traveling abroad.

Israeli residents of the communities surrounding Gaza are calling on the government to end their perpetuatal state of suffering.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
Israeli residents living in the vicinity of the Gaza Strip suffered another anxiety-filled night following the severe fighting between IDF Special Forces and Hamas terrorists inside the Gaza Strip.
Gaza-based terrorists fired 17 rockets at communities in the Eshkol region, repeatedly setting off sirens throughout the night. The constant exposure to danger and uncertainty is taking its toll.
Sharon Calderon, who lives in Kibbutz Sufa near Gaza, told Israel Hayom about the “inability to plan your day like everyone else because a flare-up can occur any moment.”
Discsussing the precarioius security situation, she recounted how her family had been enjoying a quiet evening outdoors on Sunday, and “then we started to hear explosions and planes and shooting and then the rocket fire and the sirens and the panic attacks.”

By Associated Press and World Israel News Staff
An Israeli airstrike hit Hamas’ Gaza-based Al-Aqsa TV station, a media outlet used by the terror group to incite riots and anti-Israeli violence.
The station went off the air after the airstrike. Minutes earlier, it halted its programming and was broadcasting a still image of its logo after the building was hit by a warning missile.
Shortly thereafter, three loud explosions were heard and the screen turned black
Witnesses say the blast destroyed the entire building, and explosions illuminated the night sky.
Workers evacuated the building after the warning shots. It was not clear whether there were any casualties.
The strike occurred after Israel’s military warned that it was prepared to step up its efforts against Palestinian terror groups in the Gaza Strip if rocket fire at Israel continues.

Using European money, Palestinians have expropriated tens of thousands of acres of Israeli land in a determined plan to create “irreversible facts on the ground.”
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
A report released last week exposes the depth and breadth of the Palestinian Authority’s plan to  silently seize Israeli land. The plan, whose purpose is to bring these lands under Palestinian control, is fueled by European Union (EU) funding.
The report was put out by Regavim, an Israeli NGO that deals primarily with land issues. It conducts field surveys and documents the illegality of Palestinian land-grabs. The group has petitioned the courts many times to demand that the state perform its duty and enforce the land-use laws equally to all. According to the report, Israel’s government has been lax in doing so.

Debra Messing supports fellow actress Alyssa Milano in criticizing Women’s March leaders for not condemning Farrakhan.
By Shiryn Ghermezian, The Algemeiner
Jewish actress Debra Messing has followed in the footsteps of fellow performer Alyssa Milano in distancing herself from leaders of the Women’s March movement due to their refusal to condemn notorious anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan.
On Thursday night, Messing tweeted a link to Milano’s recent interview with The Advocate in which the latter said she would not speak at another Women’s March event until organizers Linda Sarsour and Tamika Mallory denounced Nation of Islam leader Farrakhan’s anti-Semitism.
The “Will & Grace” star tagged Milano in the tweet and wrote, “I stand with you.”
Messing attended the Women’s March’s flagship rally in 2017 and was a big supporter of the protest, according to The Advocate.
Milano told the publication last week, “Any time that there is any bigotry or anti-Semitism in that respect, it needs to be called out and addressed. I’m disappointed in the leadership of the Women’s March that they haven’t done it adequately.”
She added, “[It’s] unfortunate that none of them have come forward against him at this point. Or even given a really good reason why to support them.”

BDS targets Israeli Eurovision winner’s European tour

Eurovision contest winner Netta Barzilai’s European tour is being targeted by the BDS movement.
By TPS
Eurovision Song Contest winner Netta Barzilai’s European tour, which begins in Vienna, is being targeted by anti-Israel boycott movements that have called for her to be given a “warm BDS welcome.”
The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement called for a boycott of Barzilai, who won the 63rd Eurovision Song Contest with her song “Toy” in Lisbon earlier this year, due to what activists are calling her role in the Israeli government’s efforts to whitewash its violations of Palestinian human rights.
An article on the BDS Facebook page said that while the movement usually targets Israeli institutions and not “individuals based on their identity” Barzilai is a “representative of Israel and a cultural ambassador” and “has clearly been recruited to participate in Israel’s rebranding efforts.”

Controversy swirled Sunday after Israel transferred $15 million in cash to Hamas on Thursday.
By David Isaac, World Israel News
Controversy swirled Sunday over the Israeli government’s transfer of $15 million in cash in suitcases to Hamas on Thursday. Qatar supplied the money, which will be used to pay Palestinian civil servant salaries.
To ensure the money went to where it was intended, the transfer was photographed. However, IDF Radio reported Sunday that a portion of the money lined Hamas’s pockets.
“Hamas took part of the funds for their money box. The Qataris sent 52 million shekels for 40,000 clerks and needy families, meaning 1,300 shekels a person. In fact, many clerks received only 800 shekels, and the needy received 400 shekels,” the station tweeted.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the move on Saturday night as he boarded a flight to Paris where he will meet with French President Emanuel Macron at a peace conference to celebrate 100 years since the end of World War I.
“I am doing what I can … to restore peace and prevent a humanitarian crisis,” Netanyahu said. “Right now, this is the right step. For every step, without exception, there is a price. When you take steps as a leader, there is always a price. If you can’t bear the cost, you can’t lead.”
Education Minister Naftali Bennett blasted the decision on Sunday, calling it “protection money” in an interview with Israel’s Kan Bet. “You can buy quiet for a short time but you accustom the other side to use violence to achieve its interests,” he said.

Members of Knesset belonging to the Land of Israel caucus have sent a formal letter to their colleagues asking for support in ending the mandate of The International Presence in Hebron (TIPH).
TIPH, a civilian observer mission, began operating in Hebron after the massacre of 29 Arabs in the Cave of the Patriarchs by Dr. Baruch Goldstein in 1994. It was withdrawn twice, but ever since the city was divided into Palestinian- and Israeli-controlled sections in 1997, the U.N.-backed group has maintained a constant presence in the city.

IDF forces discovered two grenades at Joseph’s Tomb on Tuesday night.
By World Israel News Staff
On Tuesday, Israeli Defense Forces protecting a pilgrimage of 1,000 Jewish worshipers to the Tomb of Joseph discovered two grenades hidden at the site.
The hand grenades were of makeshift design and appeared  to be manufactured locally, according to reports.
In addition, gunfire was directed at an Israel Defense Forces vehicle and Palestinian Arabs threw rocks and Molotov cocktails.
Although the Tomb of Joseph located near the city of Schechem (Nablus) is completely under Arab control as set forth in the Oslo Accords, Jews retain special rights to pray at the tomb.

Israeli passports to Saudi Arabia? Warming ties may see Muslims go on the Hajj as citizens of the Jewish State

Israeli passports to Saudi Arabia? Warming ties may see Muslims go on the Hajj as citizens of the Jewish StateMuslim pilgrims pray on the last day of the annual hajj pilgrimage in Mina, outside the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. (AP/Dar Yasin)
An apparent step backwards could in fact signal a further move toward normalization between Israel and Saudi-Arabia.
By Yona Schnitzer, TPS
Israeli Muslims could find themselves at least temporarily unable to make the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages to Mecca after Saudi officials announced Tuesday that from now on, entry to the Kingdom will only be permitted with an official state-issued passport, which includes identification numbers.
The move effectively voids the temporary Jordanian permits that have been issued to Israeli-Arab pilgrims since 1978 in order for them to travel to the holy Muslim cities of Mecca and Medina during the month of Ramadan, circumventing a ban on Israeli citizens entering Saudi-Arabia, which has no diplomatic relations with Israel.
However, speculation has arisen that the move may actually signal a further step toward normalization between Israel and Saudi-Arabia.

Israel’s Supreme Court: Temple Mount metal detectors for Jews only

Israel’s Supreme Court rejected an appeal to remove metal detectors located only at the Temple Mount entrance used by Jews.
By World Israel News Staff
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court unanimously rejected an appeal from Otzma Yehudit, a right-wing party, against the decision to place metal detectors only at the entrance where Jews enter the Temple Mount, Ma’ariv reported today.
Attorney for the appellant, Itamar Ben Gavir, wrote in the appeal that the current situation, “unlawfully infringes upon the equality of Jewish visitors and tourists – the use of a metal detector is used in their inspection at the Temple Mount entrance, but among Muslims the inspection does not include the use of a metal detector.”
The attorney also said that the situation is racist as it favors Arabs and Muslims over Jews, while it is the former that carry out terror attacks, Ma’ariv reported. The attorney called for the removal of the metal detectors.
Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Esther Hayut wrote in the decision, “We are convinced that the difference in the inspection methods is justified in order to maintain security and ensure arrangement of the visitors to the compound. Therefore, we reason that despite the difference in the means of inspection at the different gates, judgment by the police in this matter appears reasonable and within the  framework of the authority vested in it by the police ordinance, and therefore we found no reason to intervene. ”

Israeli forces caught a Palestinian suspected of a serious arson attack, which the IDF previously thought was accidentally caused by one of its own soldiers’ flares.
By JNS.org
Israel has accused a Palestinian man who breached the border fence separating Israel and Gaza on Friday of setting a nearby greenhouse ablaze.
The suspect was captured by Israeli security forces after he crossed the border into one of the neighborhoods in the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council.
He was transferred to interrogation, according to the Israeli army.
Previously, the Israel Defense Forces thought its own soldiers had caused the blaze after shooting a flare during the apprehension.
The new development comes as Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar announced at a riot near the border on Friday that the terrorist group has not come to any agreement with Israel.
Since the end of March, Hamas has staged violent riots during which Palestinians attack soldiers with firearms, grenades, and Molotov cocktails, in addition to breaching the security barrier and launching airborne incendiary devices, causing millions of dollars in damage with fires that have set ablaze thousands of acres of Israeli land.

By Adina Katz, World Israel News
Addressing a Tel Aviv audience on Tuesday as part of a closed event organized by Israeli media consultancy firm OH! Orenstein + Hoshen, whistleblower Ed Snowden censured Israeli cyber intelligence company NSO for its alleged role in the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Globes reported.
Snowden described the NSO Group, as well as Facebook and similar companies that collect vast information about the public and violate the freedom of their users, as “the worst of the worst.”
“How do they [Saudis] know what his plans were and that they needed to act against him [Khashoggi]? That knowledge came from the technology developed by NSO. They are selling a digital burglary tool,” he said.
“Companies like this are popping up all over the world. They are not trying to save lives but just make money,” he said, speaking by video from Russia, where the former American National Security Agency contractor has been living in exile since copying and leaking classified information in 2013 without authorization.

Analysis: Palestinian threats to Arab normalization with Israel
 November 7, 2018
Analysis: Palestinian threats to Arab normalization with IsraelOman's Sultan Qaboos, left, receives Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu. (Israeli Prime Minister's Office via AP)
The PA and Hamas see eye to eye on one issue only. Both are opposed to normalization with Israel.
By Khaled Abu Toameh, The Gatestone Institute
For more than 10 years now, Hamas and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s ruling Fatah faction have been at war with each other. Attempts by their Arab brothers, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, to solve the power struggle between the two rival Palestinian groups have thus far failed and are unlikely to succeed in the foreseeable future. The gap between Hamas and Fatah remains as wide as ever: the two parties despise each other. Fatah wants to return to the Gaza Strip; Hamas says it out loud: no. Fatah wants Hamas to disarm and cede control over the Gaza Strip; Hamas says no.
On one particular issue, however, the two sides lay aside their differences and see eye to eye. When it comes to Israel, one would be hard-pressed to distinguish between Fatah and Hamas.
Both parties use the same harsh language when referring to Israel and the policies and decisions of the Israeli government. The daily statements condemning Israel that are issued separately by Hamas and Fatah sound almost identical. Both refer to Israel as the “state of occupation.” They also continue to incite Palestinians and the rest of the world against Israel by accusing it of committing “war crimes” against the Palestinians and “violating international law.” The daily attacks on Israel by Hamas and Fatah have radicalized Palestinians to a point where many of them would not consider any form of compromise with the Jewish state.

Rep. Ron DeSantis vowed to be “very aggressive” against BDS and in favor of Israel.
By: Jack Gold, World Israel News
Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis put the Sunshine State on a path to further warming ties with the Jewish State, defeating his Democratic challenger, Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, for the governorship Tuesday in Florida.
DeSantis promised during his campaign that he would be the “most pro-Israel governor in the country,” vowing that his first trip abroad as governor would be to Israel.
In remarks to Israel Hayom shortly after his victory, DeSantis said that as governor, he will be “responsible for the anti-BDS list so that if I see that certain elements are boycotting Israel, I can unilaterally put the companies that do so on the Florida blacklist so that they cannot engage with government agencies in Florida. I will be very aggressive in this action, and I think it will help fight the BDS.”

By Ilanit Chernick, TPS
A Palestinian woman was shot and wounded Tuesday morning while attempting to carry out a stabbing attack at a gas station near Kfar Adumim in Judea, 10 kilometers northeast of Jerusalem.
According to the Israel Police, the 37-year-old terrorist from Yatta, a Palestinian village near Hebron, was reported to police earlier in the day for acting suspiciously when she refused to leave a falafel shop at the gas station.
Border Police were called and she finally left the store. “When Border Police officers identified her on the road as the suspicious individual from the falafel shop, they called out to her, and she immediately ran towards them brandishing a knife and shouting in Arabic,” the statement said.
“One of the soldiers shot and wounded her. The terrorist was moderately injured and evacuated to Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital. When searched, a knife and scissors were found in her possession.

Israeli strikes against Hezbollah and Iranian targets in Syria will not resolve Israel’s security problems but will only increase tensions in the region, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Monday.

Lavrov said Israel endangered Russian troops in Syria by failing to give enough lead time prior to an attack, as agreed upon by the two countries.

British Mandate-era law enables Arab land grab in Jerusalem

British Mandate-era law enables Arab land grab in JerusalemKnesset Interior Committee Chairman Yoav Kish (Flash90/Yonatan Sindel)
An old law called the “Mukhtar Procedure” that Arabs have taken advantage of to build in Jerusalem came under fire at a recent meeting of the Knesset Interior Committee.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
The Knesset Interior Committee held a hearing last Monday, Oct. 29, on a little-known rule dating back to the time when the British ruled Palestine called the “Mukhtar Procedure.” It allows Arabs to build on land they may not own in Jerusalem and other areas.
Opponents say the rule is too easily abused.
In order for Arabs to build on land in Jerusalem, they present a letter to a planning committee from a mukhtar, or Arab communal leader, declaring that he knows the person who wishes to build and that person owns the land in question.
The Mukhtar’s word is accepted even though no legal deeds are provided. The committee only ensures that the proposed house or addition is architecturally sound.

Israel is being asked to trust Hamas, despite the fact that most Arab countries do not.
By Bassam Tawil, The Gatestone Institute
It is no secret that most of the Arab countries do not trust Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist group. President Mahmoud Abbas’s Palestinian Authority, for instance, as well as many Palestinians, do not have any confidence in Hamas, particularly after the summer of 2007, when the Islamist movement violently seized control of the Gaza Strip. Earlier this year, Abbas threatened that “shoes will be pouring” onto the heads of Hamas leaders.
Now, however, Israel is being asked to trust Hamas. This request is coming from Egypt, Qatar, and the United Nations, whose representatives have been working hard the past few weeks to arrange a truce agreement between Israel and Hamas.
According to unconfirmed reports, the proposed truce calls for reopening all the border crossings between the Gaza Strip on one side, and Israel and Egypt on the other. The truce also apparently calls for expanding the fishing zone off the Gaza Strip coast to 9 miles; paying salaries to thousands of Hamas employees, and increasing fuel supplies to the only power plant in Gaza. Qatar — a country that has long been supporting the Muslim Brotherhood and its offshoot, Hamas — will be required to pay for the fuel and the salaries, according to the proposed truce agreement.

Although home to a large religious Muslim population, Egypt’s government wants to outlaw the niqab outside the home.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
A bill in Egypt’s parliament would ban the niqab, or Islamic face veil, from being worn outside, in public institutions and restaurants, an effort to prevent criminals from using the veil to hide their identities, Sputnik news agency reported Sunday.
The bill proposes a fine of 1,000 Egyptian pounds (approximately $55) for wearing the niqab in public will be. Repeated offenses would carry heavier fines.
Egyptian lawmaker Ghada Ajami, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee of Egypt’s House of Representatives, told local media, “Security troubles in Egypt are accelerating these bold decisions in light of attempts to target state institutions, and increasing criminal and terrorist crime rates.”
“We are currently in an ongoing war against terrorism, we should do our best to end it. The veil or niqab is used by many people as a cover for the crimes that they are committing; it is not part of the personal freedom as some say,” she said.

By Jack Gold, World Israel News
A Palestinian terrorist on Monday attempted to stab Israelis at the entrance to the Israeli community of Kiryat Arba, in the Hebron area.
IDF forces stationed in the area shot and wounded the terrorist, stopping the attack. No Israelis were wounded in the incident.
The terrorist was lightly wounded. A video shows him lying fully conscious on the ground. He was evacuated to an Israeli hospital for treatment.
This incident comes amid a spate of Palestinian terror attacks in recent weeks, starting Oct. 7 when an Arab gunman shot and killed two Israelis at the Barkan Industrial Park in Samaria. He remains at large.
Two weeks ago, a terrorist was shot and killed in a stabbing attack in Hebron. A week before that, a terrorist was shot and killed in another stabbing attack in Samaria.
That same day, Israeli Supreme Court Justice David Mintz narrowly escaped a carjacking by three Arabs armed with hammers at a junction on Route 463 in Samaria.

Iran greeted the re-imposition of U.S. sanctions on Monday with air defense drills and an acknowledgement from President Hassan Rouhani that the nation faces a “war situation,” raising Mideast tensions as America’s maximalist approach to the Islamic Republic takes hold.
The sanctions end all the economic benefits America granted Tehran for its 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, though Iran for now continues to abide by the accord that saw it limit its enrichment of uranium. Not threatening to resume higher enrichment for the moment, Iranian officials in recent months have made a point to threaten they could resume at any time faster than before.

Nation of Islam leader and prominent anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan chanted “Death to America” and claimed that “America has never been a democracy” on Sunday during a solidarity trip to Iran, ahead of the re-imposition of U.S. sanctions on the country this week.
According to Iran’s semi-official state news agency Mehr, Farrakhan said at a meeting with the Secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei that America is conspiring against Iran.
He also compared President Donald Trump to Satan. “The Christians say that Satan is a liar, and every day they keep a count of Trump’s lies,” Farrakhan said in the meeting. “Only Satan was created by a lie.”
“I understand how the enemies have plotted against the Iranian people and I would like to stay alongside you to stop their plots,” he said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu permitted legislation to proceed that would make it easier for courts to sentence convicted terrorists to death. He announced the decision during a coalition meeting, Kan Bet reported Monday.
Naftali Bennett, leader of the Jewish Home Party who serves as minister of education, pressured the prime minister to advance the bill, according to the report.
The death penalty bill for terrorists, which passed a preliminary vote in January, is the flagship legislation of the Yisrael Beytenu Party led by Defense Minister Abigdor Liberman. Last week, Liberman blamed Bennett and Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, also of the Jewish Home Party, of delaying the legislation.

By Jack Gold, World Israel News
Threats and an Islamic edict against voting proved successful in keeping Jerusalem’s Arab population away from the polls in last Tuesday’s municipal elections, Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) reported Sunday.
A mere 1.5 percent of Jerusalem Arabs exercised their right to vote, PMW reported. Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah Movement thanked the city’s Arabs for heeding the PA’s threats.
A fatwah, or religious injunction, also helped. In July, the eastern Jerusalem Supreme Council issued a fatwa warning that Arab residents were “religiously forbidden” from voting or running in the election. “The disadvantages of participating in the election are bigger and greater than any other gained interests,” the fatwah said.
The council warned that participation in the election would assist Israel in its effort to “Judaize” Jerusalem and “change its historical and religious features. The occupied city of Jerusalem is an Arab and Islamic city.”

The Bubbe & Zayde effect: Jewish vote key in swing state elections

As older Jews in the U.S. have moved to warmer climes, their impact in swing states such as Florida, Arizona and Nevada may be decisive in the mid-term elections.
By Joseph Wolkin, World Israel News
With mid-term elections coming on Tuesday in the United States, Jewish voters are ready to pull the levers.
In swing states, the vote from Jewish constituents is one both Democrats and Republicans vie for, knowing it can be the tie-breaker in one of the tightest mid-terms in American history.
The Jewish Electorate Institute says that 74 percent of Jews in the country will vote Democratic blue on Tuesday, with 26 percent opting to go Republican red. That will be key in Florida, Arizona and Nevada and may change the complexion of the House of Representatives, especially as Jews have a high voting rate.
Why is the Jewish vote so key in these states? It’s quite simple: Older Jews have moved to these warmer areas of America after they retire, adopting the motto, “You don’t have to shovel sunshine.” Although retirees, they frequently become active in community politics.

Elaine, embrace the desert!

Psalms 23:2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures: He leads me beside the still waters.

The average American who reads this passage probably thinks of green pastures as wide areas of unending soft green grass. But in Israel the climate is so dry, that there's really no such thing.

Long ago, the shepherds of Israel learned to find grass where most people wouldn't think to look. Here, green pastures are created as the breeze from the Mediterranean Sea brings moisture into our arid climate. It is from this moisture that a kind of dew settles upon the sides of certain hills creating little tufts of grass -- just enough for one day's feeding for a flock of sheep. The shepherds would lead their flocks through the hot parched desert in search of these. It's no wonder those sheep would obey the shepherd's voice. They would easily die in the desert trying to survive on their own. The sheep learned to depend on the shepherd to daily lead them to their sustenance.

How many times does it feel like we're walking aimlessly through the desert and there doesn't seem any refreshment near? When our lives our bombarded with trial after trial it can feel this way. But we must keep in mind that though we are walking through the desert, our Shepherd is leading us to green pastures to be refreshed. And it's these times in the desert that God causes us to depend more upon on him. These thirsty times are special times -- times to be embraced!

Elaine, don't despise those desert walks with the Shepherd and don't be afraid. God has something special for us there -- and there are green pastures near.

Your family in the Lord with much agape love,

George, Baht Rivka, Elianna & Obadiah

The Gaza-based terror group reportedly kept the number of rioters down on Friday in an apparent attempt to persuade Israel and Egypt to ease restrictions on the coastal enclave
By Associated Press and World Israel News
Gaza’s Hamas rulers tamped down violent riots on the territory’s border fence with Israel as Egypt stepped up efforts to restore calm, making Friday the quietest day of months of violent Hamas-orchestrated confrontations.
Only a few thousand Palestinians rallied at the frontier, in one of the lowest turnouts since the weekly riots began in March. No attempts to breach the border fence were reported.
While Hamas wants relief from a crippling 11-year-old blockade on Gaza, it threatened Israel even as it attempted to appease Egyptian negotiators leading diplomacy efforts.
“We are following the efforts and [Israel] is being tested,” said Khalil al-Hayya, a senior official from the terror group.
“If lifting the siege is late, you will experience in the winter what you did not see in the summer,” he said, threatening Israel.
Israel and Egypt largely sealed their borders with Gaza after Hamas seized control of the territory in 2007 in a bloody coup in which it overthrew the Fatah-controlled Palestinian Authority.
On Friday, Egyptian mediators in SUVs drove by two riot locations for the first time.
The envoys from Egypt’s intelligence service have been talking separately with Hamas and Israel for months. Cairo hopes to restore calm and revive Palestinian talks to reconcile Hamas with President Mahmoud Abbas’s Palestinian Authority administration.

The US will announce its next round of sanctions on Iran in four days, with some parties expressing concern that the most effective tool to rein in the Islamic Republic is not going to be used, according to reports in the American media.
Specifically, an article in the Wall Street Journal last week reported that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told “foreign governments” that the US administration may not disconnect Iran from the SWIFT global banking network.

Netanyahu called Iran the “most potent force of militant Islam,” putting Europe on notice of possible Iranian attacks on its soil.
By Associated Press and World Israel News Staff
Speaking to reporters Thursday after talks with his Bulgarian counterpart, prime minister Boyko Borisov, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said radical Islam is a threat to the world.
Netanyahu also referred to Iranian plots to carry out attacks on European soil that Israel has revealed and helped foil.
On Wednesday, for example, news broke that Israel’s Mossad intelligence service helped Danish security foil an Iranian-backed assassination plot targeting members of an Iranian dissident group granted asylum in Denmark.
The Mossad furnished Denmark with critical information that led to the arrest of a Norwegian citizen of Iranian descent in Goteborg on suspicion of plotting to assassinate the leader of the Danish branch of the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahvaz (ASMLA).
Netanyahu arrived in Bulgaria’s Black Sea city of Varna for Friday’s meeting of the Craiova Forum, which includes the prime ministers of Bulgaria, Greece and Romania, as well as the president of Serbia.

An Israeli TV report revealed that Tehran’s strategic networks were under siege, just hours after news broke that Israel helped foil an Iranian assassination plot in Denmark.
By World Israel News Staff
On Wednesday, Israel’s Hadashot news reported that Iranian strategic computer networks and other infrastructure were attacked over the course of several days by a computer virus compared to the virulent Stuxnet virus, only more “advanced and sophisticated.”
The Iranians for their part are still refusing to admit the extent of the damage, according to Hadashot.
Stuxnet refers to a computer virus that struck eight years ago, which many believe was developed jointly by the Israeli and American intelligence agencies. The virus successfully infiltrated Iran’s illegal nuclear program, hijacking centrifuges and forcing them to operate at heightened speeds, which was detrimental to the enrichment process.
On Sunday, Iran’s civil defense chief, Gholamreza Jalali, claimed Tehran had control of the new virus.
Meanwhile, Israel has remained silent on the cyber offensive, with Hadashot reporting, “We tried to clarify. [Israeli intelligence is] refusing to comment.”

I love the people of Israel and the state of Israel. I will promote contacts and very productive cooperation for both sides starting in 2019,” Brasil’s president vowed.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
Congressman Jair Bolsonaro won Brazil’s presidency Sunday on promises to make several changes in Latin America’s largest nation, one of which is to foster closer relations with Israel.
He won just over 55 percent of the vote Sunday, compared to under 45 percent for the rival Workers’ Party.
In remarks to the Israel Hayom daily, apparently his first interview as president-elect with a non-Brazilian publication, Bolsonaro said that his campaign promises regarding Israel were not a gimmick.
Considered pro-Israel, Bolsonaro has vowed to move the country’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and has said he would close the Palestinian embassy in Brasilia. Inaugurated in 2016, the embassy is the Palestinians’ first diplomatic mission in the Western hemisphere.

The Russian Defense Ministry released a veiled warning to Israel that it should not launch any “provocative actions” in Syria, as Russia completes its transfer of T-300 anti-aircraft missile systems and Polyana D-4 air defense systems to the Syrian Army.
“As you know, in order to increase the level of security of the Russian military personnel, aviation flights and the protection of objects in Syria, the delivery of Russian S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems and Polyana D-4 air defense systems were completed,”  Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said in a press briefing briefing on Wednesday.
“At present, Russian advisers are preparing Syrian military personnel for combat work on these modern air defense systems. By Jack Gold, World Israel News
Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely has begun a process to end the deployment of the Temporary International Presence in Hebron (TIPH) force in the city.
According to a report by Israel Hayom, Hotovely approached Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the issue Wednesday. She recommended ending TIPH’s mandate, which is shortly coming up for renewal. Netanyahu said he would examine the issue.
TIPH, which includes observers from five European countries, has maintained a presence in Hebron since 1997.
Anti-Israel bias
While TIPH’s website says its mission is to support Israel and the Palestinian Authority “in their efforts to improve the situation in Hebron,” the group operates in a one-sided manner, critics say.
TIPH works against the Israel Defense Forces and Jewish residents of Hebron, accusing the IDF of human rights abuses and of alleged violations of the Oslo Accords and U.N. resolutions.

Asking a “rabbi” who believes in Jesus to speak about the Pittsburgh shooting at a Republican campaign rally highlights the one issue on which virtually all Jews agree.
By Jonathan S. Tobin, JNS.org
It was the sort of unforced error that was the last thing the Trump administration needed in a week during which its liberal critics have been trying to place blame for the massacre at a Pittsburgh synagogue on the president.
Vice President Mike Pence was scheduled to appear at Republican campaign rally in Michigan. After Saturday’s horrific attack on the Tree of Life-Or L’Simcha Synagogue that left 11 Jewish worshipers dead, the vice president’s office asked that the local organizers also invite a rabbi to offer a prayer remembering the victims. But while that request showed sensitivity to a national tragedy, what followed came back to bite the veep in a big way.
The problem was that as far as the Jewish community is concerned, Loren Jacobs — the “rabbi” who was asked to speak at the rally — isn’t Jewish.
Jacobs was there representing the very-Jewish sounding Congregation Shema Yisrael in suburban Detroit. But when he spoke in condemnation of the anti-Semitic attack, he did so by invoking the “God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob, God and Father of my Lord and Savior Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah, and my God and Father, too.”
Far from being a representative of the Jewish community, Jacobs is a Christian, albeit the pastor of a Messianic Jewish church that bills itself on its website as being “the same thing” as Christianity, but “expressed within the Jewish heritage.”
But while many Christians may see this as somehow being a variant of Judaism, Jews see it very differently. In a world in which Jews are bitterly divided along denominational, ideological and political lines, the one thing almost of them agrees on is that anyone who believes in the divinity of Jesus is not a Jew.
More to the point, most Jews see “Messianic” sects that bill themselves as being either a form of Judaism or rooted in Jewish traditions as a standing insult, if not a threat, to their faith and identity.
As such, the invitation provoked an understandable barrage of protests against Pence, even if the vice president had no idea what the local Republicans had gotten him into. The situation wasn’t helped by the refusal of Lena Epstein — the candidate Pence was there to endorse, and ironically, herself a Jew — to admit that she had made a colossal error by inviting Jacobs.

Republican senators asked U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday to suspend civilian nuclear talks with Saudi Arabia.
By The Algemeiner
A group of Republican senators asked U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday to suspend civilian nuclear talks with Saudi Arabia after the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and Saudi actions in Yemen and Lebanon.
The five U.S. lawmakers, led by Senator Marco Rubio, said they would use the Atomic Energy Act to block any U.S.-Saudi nuclear agreements if Trump did not cut off talks.
Saudi judgment in question
“The ongoing revelations about the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, as well as certain Saudi actions related to Yemen and Lebanon, have raised further serious concerns about the transparency, accountability, and judgment of current decision makers in Saudi Arabia,” the senators wrote.
“We therefore request that you suspend any related negotiations for a U.S.-Saudi civil nuclear agreement for the foreseeable future,” said the lawmakers, who included senators Cory Gardner, Rand Paul, Dean Heller and Todd Young.

Police are investigating anti-Jewish graffiti that was sprayed on the wall of a Southern California synagogue, days after a gunman killed 11 people at a Pittsburgh temple.
Employees arriving for work spotted the expletive-laden vandalism Wednesday morning at Beth Jacob Synagogue in Irvine.
Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime.
The president of the temple board, Allen Berezovsky, tells the Orange County Register that surveillance cameras showed a man in a hoodie and surgical mask jumping the synagogue security fence and spraying the message.
Berezovsky says the temple upgraded its security earlier this year after an Irvine man was arrested for hate crimes. Prosecutors say the man had a “kill list” of prominent Jewish community members. He also had papers mentioning the Irvine synagogue and local Christian churches.

Moshe Feiglin, former leader of the Jewish Leadership faction in the Likud, called for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ouster in a Facebook post Thursday.
Feiglin make his remarks after media reports this week said that Netanyahu would only conquer the Gaza Strip if Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas was prepared to take it.
The prime minister was ready to send Israeli soldiers “to risk their lives in an impossible war in the alleyways and tunnels of Gaza, but the PLO  terrorist [Abbas] refused to take Gaza into his hands, after our sons would have spilled their blood and conquered it for him from the Hamas terrorist.”
Feiglin called the scenario “simply insane.”

“Israel is a state present in the region, and we all understand this. The world is also aware of this and maybe it is time for Israel to be treated the same [as other states] and to also bear the same obligations,” said Omani Foreign Minister Yousuf bin Alawi at a regional security summit in Bahrain.
These simple words would be considered unremarkable in most international relations. But in a Middle East that still largely rejects Israel’s existence, this straightforward message is nothing less than revolutionary.

Israel’s Mossad helped Danish security foil an Iranian-backed attempt to assassinate members of an Iranian dissident group who had found asylum in the Nordic country, it was reported Wednesday.
A senior Israeli official said that the Mossad had provided the Danes with key information that led to the arrest ten days ago of a Norwegian citizen of Iranian descent in the Swedish city of Goteborg on suspicion of plotting to assassinate the leader of the Danish branch of the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahvaz (ASMLA).
Two other suspected members of the group who lived in Denmark were also reportedly targeted by the Iranian-backed cell.
The ASMLA is an Arab nationalist insurgent group that advocates a separate Arab ethnic state in Khuzestan Province in Persian-dominated Iran. It is classified as a terrorist group by the Iranian government, which blames it for killing 25  during a military parade in the city of Ahvaz in late September, including soldiers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Oron was appointed by the Supreme Appointments Committee of the Foreign Ministry, which is headed by Israeli Foreign Ministry Director-General Yuval Rotem. She is set to replace David Govrin, who has been serving as Israel’s ambassador to Cairo since 2016.

According to statements from an unnamed Israeli official, Israel has continued to strike targets in Syria, even after Russia issued stern warnings following a downed spy plane in September.
By World Israel News Staff
A senior Israeli official stated that Israel has carried out strikes in Syria even after a Russian military craft was shot down in an incident Moscow blamed on the Jewish state, reported The Algemeiner and Reuters on Monday.
While the Israeli official quoted did not furnish details surrounding Israel’s strikes, he commented, “Military coordination with the Russians continues as before.”
Among the strikes to which the official may have been referring is an attack directed at a shipment of Iranian arms destined for the Hezbollah terror group based in Lebanon, reported Israel’s Channel 1.

Hamas’ refusal to give up control of Gaza is “accepting the thoughts of the enemy,” Abbas charged.
By World Israel News and AP
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas accused his Hamas rivals of serving American interests by refusing to relinquish control of the Gaza Strip and, by doing so, boosting the U.S. peace plan.
Abbas fears that Washington is planning a proposal that would offer the Palestinians limited statehood in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and some autonomy in parts of Judea and Samaria. The PA leader demands full independence and control of both territories.

Druze religious leaders threaten prohibition as hundreds demonstrate against municipal elections, allowed for the first time since Israel captured the Golan Heights in 1967.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
The four Druze villages of Majdal Shams, Bukata, Masada, and Ein Qinya on the Golan Heights were to be the site of a historical event Tuesday, as local elections are being held there for the first time in over 50 years.
Although Israel annexed the Golan Heights in 1981, 24 years after capturing it from Syria in the Six Day War, the majority of the residents in the Druze villages on the Golan identify as Syrian.
Protests have roiled Majdal Shams, the largest of the towns, for months. News agency Reuters reported demonstrators standing in front of ballot stations Tuesday chanting, “The Golan’s identity is Arab and Syrian.”
Hebrew media reports police have been called in to maintain order as hundreds protest in Majdal Shams. In Bukata and Masada, the vote was cancelled when all candidates dropped out.
Most Golan Druze are not Israeli citizens, but permanent residents. Their town leaders were appointed by Israel. Last year, some villagers appealed to the Supreme Court for the right to hold elections. Their request was granted.
Interior Minister Aryeh Deri hailed the ruling, saying it “strengthens Israel’s democracy.” However, mayors and regional council heads must still be Israeli citizens according to state law, leaving only 9,000 of 26,000 residents as potential candidates

By World Israel News Staff and Associated Press
Robert Gregory Bowers, opened fire with an AR-15 rifle and other weapons during worship services inside Tree of Life Synagogue on Saturday, killing eight men and three women before a tactical police team tracked him down and shot him, according to state and federal affidavits.
He expressed hatred of Jews during the rampage and later told police that “all these Jews need to die,” authorities said.
Officials released the names of all 11 of the dead, all of them middle-aged or elderly. The victims included intellectually disabled brothers and a husband and wife. The youngest was 54, and the oldest was 97.
As authorities worked to piece together Bowers’ background and movements, harrowing accounts from the survivors began to emerge.
Speaking at a vigil in Pittsburgh on Sunday night, Tree of Life Rabbi Jeffrey Myers said about a dozen people had gathered in the synagogue’s main sanctuary when Bowers walked in and began shooting. He said seven of his congregants were killed.

By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
Pittsburgh’s sports teams showed a united front in condemning the Saturday morning attack at the Tree of Life Synagogue that left 11 dead.
Its three major sports teams – the NFL’s Steelers, MLB’s Pirates, and NHL’s Penguins – all expressed support for the victims. The synagogue is located near sports venues used by the three franchises.
Before their game against the Cleveland Browns Sunday, Steelers president Art Rooney II announced that there would be “a moment of silence and prayer” in honor of those murdered.
“On behalf of the entire Steelers organization, we offer our support and condolences to the families of the attack on peaceful citizens worshiping at The Tree of Life Synagogue. Our hearts are heavy, but we must stand against anti-Semitism and hate crimes of any nature and come together to preserve our values and our community,” his statement read.
The team’s logo was also reworked on social media to have a Star of David take the place of the top-most diamond, with the words “Stronger than Hate” added in. Fans in the stands held signs with that picture, as well as those saying “Pittsburgh Strong.”

Analysis: Trump has nothing to do with world’s oldest hatred

Laying the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre at the feet of the president is unjust.
By Daniel Krygier, World Israel News
”All Jews must die,” shouted Robert Bowers, the terrorist who murdered eight Jews at a Pittsburgh synagogue Saturday.
The perpetrator’s profile perfectly fits the liberal image of a racist: An angry, anti-immigrant, white male, who subscribes to far-right, anti-Jewish conspiracy theories. This has made the job easier for those who want to make political hay out of this tragedy, of which sadly there are many.
Despite reasoned warnings from some, like Dani Dayan, Israel’s consul general in N.Y., who advised against politicizing this tragedy, people with axes to grind have taken to blaming President Donald Trump.
Perhaps one of the most off-the-wall smears comes from Washington Post Columnist Dana Milbank, who wrote in an Oct. 28 column titled Trump’s America is not a safe place for Jews, that Trump violated George Washington’s 1790 compact to the Jews of Rhode Island.
“He has given sanction to bigotry and assistance to persecution,” Milbank wrote. He then goes on to suggest that Trump is leading America down the road to Nazism.
For Milbank and those of his ilk who wish to turn a synagogue massacre into a political talking point for the mid-term elections, we ask the simple question: Where is your evidence?
President Trump strongly condemned the synagogue massacre, calling it an “evil anti-Semitic attack.” He called for the death penalty for the killer. At a rally, he said he wanted to destroy anti-Semites, to which he was cheered by his base.
Until now, his words have been backed up by action. He has moved the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, something no other president had the courage to do. Similarly his administration has fought anti-Israel bigotry and Jew-hatred on a level that few administrations can match. Exhibit A is U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley’s stellar work in that “august” body.
To which Milbank and others say, “Who are you going to believe – me or your lying eyes?”
World’s oldest bigotry
As Israel ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer pointed out over the weekend, Trump is not responsible for a hatred that predates him by 25 centuries. It has been called the world’s oldest bigotry and it transcends time, place, religion and politics.

Netanyahu on Friday returned from an unannounced visit to Oman, the two countries confirmed, meeting the Gulf state’s leader in the first visit of its kind in over 20 years.
By Associated Press and World Israel News Staff
The surprise visit this week by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a  large Israeli delegation represents an important accomplishment for the Jewish state, providing evidence of warming ties with behind-the-scenes contacts in Gulf Arab states.
The sultanate has long had a low-key role in fostering negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians. Days before Netanyahu’s visit, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas also visited Oman, raising the possibility that Oman might be trying to help revive negotiations or push forward a troubled U.S. peace plan.
Oman, which sits on the southeastern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, with Saudi Arabia to its north and Iran to its east, also has a long record of being a quiet broker in the region, opting to stay on the sidelines of the rivalry between the two regional powerhouses.
Netanyahu and Sultan Qaboos issued a joint statement saying the two sides “discussed ways to advance the Middle East peace process and discussed a number of issues of mutual interest to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East.”
While Oman’s influence over Israel and the Palestinians is limited, its unique regional position could enable it to play a bigger role mediating between Israel and global terror group backer Iran.
Israel has identified Iran’s support for the Hamas terror group and backing of armed Shiite groups in neighboring Syria as red lines, and warned that it will not allow Iran to maintain a permanent military presence in Syria.

The Synagogue is normally locked during the week, but not on the Sabbath.
By Associated Press and World Israel News Staff
During the week, anyone who wanted to get inside Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue had to ring the doorbell and be granted entry by staff because the front door was kept locked. Not so on Saturday — the Jewish Sabbath — when the building was open for worship.
The building is normally locked during the week, and there are security cameras, said a former rabbi at the synagogue, Chuck Diamond. “But on Sabbath it’s an open door,” he said.
A gunman who had expressed hatred of Jews exploited that vulnerability, so common in so many houses of worship across the country, in a singularly horrific way.
Armed with a rifle and three handguns, Robert Bowers walked inside the synagogue during Saturday morning worship and began shooting, killing 11 and wounding six.
It was the deadliest attack on Jews in U.S. history, according to the leader of the Anti-Defamation League.
The shooting happened during a baby-naming.

The IDF struck some 80 terrorist targets in Gaza overnight in response to 30 rockets fired at Israel, a military spokesman said early Saturday morning.
By TPS
On Saturday, the IDF said fighter jets, attack helicopters and UAVs had hit targets including two advanced weapons manufacturing facilities in al-Attara and the Netzarim area; five military compounds in Khan Younes, Dir al-Balah, Tel Za’atar and Jabliyah; a training compound in Rafah, a terror tunnel in Khan Younes and an anti-aircraft observation post in Beit Lahiya.
The rocket attacks began at around 10 p.m Friday, with barrages launched against the town of Sderot and the Sha’ar Ha’Negev Regional Council. No injuries were reported, although several people were treated for shock.
Hamas and Islamic Jihad issued a statement saying fire would be met with fire and blood with blood. The rocket fire came after a day in which five Palestinians were killed during the weekly violent demonstrations along the Gaza border.

Synagogue shooter spewed online hate for Jews
 October 28, 2018
Synagogue shooter spewed online hate for JewsSynagogue shooting suspect Robert Bowers, 46, of Pittsburgh appears to have posted virulently anti-Semitic comments online.
The suspect arrested at Saturday’s mass shooting at a Pennsylvania synagogue appears to have been a virulent anti-Semite.
By Associated Press
The man arrested in the mass shooting Saturday at a Pennsylvania synagogue appears to have made virulently anti-Semitic posts on a social media platform popular with far-right extremists, including one made shortly before the attack.
Police have identified the suspect as Robert Bowers, 46, of Pittsburgh. A man with the same name posted on the site Gab.com on the morning of the shooting that “HIAS likes to bring invaders in that kill our people. I can’t sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics, I’m going in.”
HIAS is a Maryland-based nonprofit group that helps refugees around the world find safety and freedom. The organization says it is guided by Jewish values and history. President and CEO Mark Hetfield said he wasn’t aware of the shooter’s “obsession with HIAS until this morning.”
The shooter opened fire at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue, killing 11 people and wounding at least six others including four police officers. Bowers was wounded in a shootout with police and was reported to be in custody Saturday at a nearby hospital.
President Donald Trump characterized the mass shooting as an anti-Semitic attack and law enforcement officials said they were investigating it as a hate crime.
Bowers has no apparent criminal record. He was registered in Allegheny County, which includes Pittsburgh, as an unaffiliated voter. Heavily armed officers responded to an apartment building in Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon that may have been associated with Bowers.
In a statement, Gab.com said it suspended the alleged gunman’s account Saturday morning shortly after his name was mentioned on police radio chatter. The company said it backed up the content of the account and notified the FBI.
Right-wing social media
Gab has become an alternative to Twitter for users whose racist and harassing online behavior got them banned from the mainstream platform.

Iran and Syria are behind this weekend’s rocket attacks on Israel’s south, IDF Spokesperson Ronen Manelis said on Saturday morning.
By TPS
IDF Spokesperson Ronen Manelis held a conference call for military reporters Saturday morning after at least 34 rockets were fired at Sderot and communities along the Gaza Belt since Friday night.
“The actions last night were [carried out] by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad with clear direction from Iran and the Quds Force in Syria,” said Manelis, adding that a clear message was conveyed to all relevant parties, “that no one [responsible] will be immune, not within Gaza, and not without.”
As Manelis spoke, a barrage of eight rockets was fired toward Sderot.
In addition to laying the blame with Iran and Syria, Manelis stated that the question of who shot the rockets “is Hamas’ business,” and that Israel holds Hamas responsible for everything that takes place within Gaza, including the rocket attacks.
“The fact that over the last week, there was a process of alleviating the humanitarian crisis [in Gaza], obligated Hamas to assume its responsibility, both on the border [a reference to weekly violent riots] and with the factions, and that did not happen,” said Manelis.

Israeli president accused of plotting ‘putsch’ to shunt Netanyahu aside

A report claims Israeli President Reuven Rivlin planned to oust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Rivlin denies it.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
On Wednesday, President Reuven Rivlin’s office denied allegations made by Benjamin Netanyahu’s associates that he intended to prevent the prime minister from becoming the country’s leader should his party emerge victorious in the next elections.
“We had trouble finding any real information in the report other than a detailed description of paranoia that is not based on any real step or even a thought that actually happened,” the president’s statement said. “Treating such phenomena should be left to professionals who are not spokespeople.”
The sparring began when Israel Hayom reported that Netanyahu had planned on calling early elections this month but reversed course when he learned that Rivlin might ask a different member of his Likud Party to form a coalition – even though he is the elected head of the party.
According to Israeli law, the president can ask any Knesset member to form a government.
“This is the stinkiest maneuver of all time; it’s a putsch attempt,” the paper quoted an anonymous senior Likud official. “They know that Netanyahu cannot be replaced in the elections, so they try every which way they can think of to get him out.”
No love lost
It’s no secret that the president is not one of the prime minister’s greatest fans, especially after Netanyahu made strenuous – though unsuccessful — efforts to derail Rivlin’s candidacy for president in 2014. Rivlin also hinted at a conference in February that Netanyahu should resign if indicted for any of the four alleged corruption cases against him currently under investigation.

Knesset Speaker: ‘Rumors of death of Israeli democracy greatly exaggerated’Speaker of the Israeli parliament Yuli Edelstein (Flash90/Gershon Elinson)
Speaker of the Knesset Yuli Edelstein made his remarks in light of critical comments about Israel by American Jewish leaders over the last months.
By World Israel News Staff
Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein channeled Mark Twain when he said, “the rumors of the death of Israeli democracy are greatly exaggerated,” during a Tuesday night panel.
Edelstein’s comments were “thinly veiled criticism of US Jewish leaders,” according to a Jerusalem Post report. The Knesset Speaker’s remarks were meant for American Jewish leaders who attacked the Nation-State Law which was adopted on July 19 this year.
The law, which spotlights the Jewish nature of the state, came under intense worldwide criticism, including from some American Jewish leaders, as a threat to democracy and Israel’s minorities.

President Trump called the killing of Khashoggi “a total fiasco” and says Saudi Arabia never should have thought about killing the dissident Washington Post contributor.
By Associated Press
U.S. President Donald Trump says he will be briefed Wednesday afternoon by U.S. officials looking into the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi by Saudi Arabian agents.
After tomorrow, Trump says, “We’ll know pretty much everything there is to know.”
He calls the killing of Khashoggi “a total fiasco” and says Saudi Arabia never should have thought about killing the dissident Washington Post contributor.
Trump says, “Once they thought about it, everything else they did was bad too.”
Trump is repeating the denials by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman that he knew of the plot before it was carried out.
The president also called it one of the “worst cover-ups in the history of cover-ups.”

Iran closer to nukes than thought, new data reveals

Iran closer to nukes than thought, new data reveals2004 satellite image of the suspected nuclear testing site in Parchin. (AP/DigitalGlobe-Institute for Science and International Security)
Iran’s nuclear program was further along than previously thought, a new report shows.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
New images and data published by the Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS) in Washington indicate that Iran’s military nuclear program was in far more advanced stages than previously thought, Israel’s Maariv daily reported Tuesday.
According to the newly published information, Iran had set up labs and pressure rooms in a military base in Parchin near Tehran and had conducted experiments there on the explosion chain, a necessary stage in the process of assembling nuclear weapons.
The report said that the Parchin site was a crucial component of Iran’s nuclear program. The images reveal that the site had a laboratory, where Iranian scientists developed and tested a neutron accelerator.
The Institute’s report emphasizes that the building of such an accelerator is particularly difficult and requires great skill and knowledge, testifying to the ability and progress that the Iranians had made.
In addition, the new information reveals that the Parchin site had an underground bunker designed to store a nuclear bomb and outlines how Iran intended to assemble five nuclear bombs and set up a site for underground nuclear testing.
The report underscores that these new findings clearly contradict Tehran’s denials about the existence of such a program and show that Iran violated the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), of which it is a signatory.
Iran Provides the Proof
The report’s findings originated in Iran’s own nuclear weapons files. Iran’s covert nuclear program, known as Project Amad, ran from 1999 to 2003. The Mossad obtained the files earlier this year.
Details held in the archive were presented by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in April, and further information was released during briefings by Israeli officials in the Prime Minister’s Office.
In the past months, the Mossad and Israel’s Atomic Energy Commission have been active in sharing the documents with intelligence organizations from the six countries that signed the nuclear agreement with Iran. Similarly, experts have arrived in Israel to view the documents, diagrams, and computer simulations produced by the Iranians.
The latest photos and documents, along with an analysis of Israel’s findings, were published by by Dr. David Albright, who has been working on the subject for many years, and Dr. Olli Heinonen, who until a few years ago was Deputy Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is responsible for overseeing Iran’s nuclear program.
The authors of the paper called on the IAEA to take action and demand that Iran provide explanations for the findings from the archive and that the IAEA inspect all the sites related to its nuclear program.

MK Bezalel Smotrich suggested giving the vote to Jewish tourists who visit for a couple of weeks, saying their trip shows they care about Israel.
By World Israel News Staff
Lawmaker Bezalel Smotrich of the Jewish Home party made a radical suggestion at the Knesset Tuesday during a roundtable discussion about Israel-Diaspora relations, The Times of Israel reported.
“Whoever spends at least two weeks a year in the State of Israel should have the right to vote for the Knesset. I will now propose such a bill. I think this will greatly strengthen the ties between us,” he told U.S. Jewish leaders participating in the annual General Assembly of the Jewish Federations of North America, which is being held this year in Israel.  “There is no doubt that Israel is a democracy,” Smotrich stated, according to the Times of Israel report. Giving Diaspora Jews the vote “can certainly influence the political landscape here, it could change the outcome of elections, and that’s okay.

BDS hits NYU: 30 student clubs boycott Tel Aviv study program

BDS hits NYU: 30 student clubs boycott Tel Aviv study program(Social media)
“People are speaking out against Zionist hegemony in the United States, and we’re just seeing that play out on campus,” NYU’s Students for Justice in Palestine leader Ben Zinevich said.
By World Israel News Staff
In solidarity with the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, 30 New York University clubs pledged not to apply to the school’s Tel Aviv study abroad program, Washington Square News, “NYU’s independent student newspaper,” reported on Tuesday.
Although only about 25-30 students participate in the program each semester, BDS supporters on campus say this new effort “is part of a larger push by student activists to draw attention to the Israel-Palestine conflict.”
The pledge was led by NYU Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Jewish Voice for Peace, with signatories including the Black Student Union and NYU Against Fascism, among others, according to the report.
“We, Students for Justice at Palestine at NYU, pledge non-cooperation with the NYU Tel Aviv global site, along with 31 other NYU student groups,” the coalition stated. “The NYU Tel Aviv campus is in clear violation of NYU’s own non-discrimination policies along with the AAUP guidelines of academic freedom. We call on NYU to upgrade its commitment to ensuring equal access across the Global Network.”
“The pledge is above all a coalition of clubs affirming their respect for the academic boycott of Israel,” SJP Secretary Ben Zinevich, an NYU senior, said in a statement to the paper. “While people may view an act like this as symbolic regarding the scope of the campus, we would invert the idea and emphasize that a significant amount of NYU clubs are declaring that they understand Israel to be an immoral and apartheid state.”
“With the topic finally being discussed on campus, people are speaking out against Zionist hegemony in the United States, and we’re just seeing that play out on campus,” Zinevich said.
Senator-at-Large and college senior Rose Asaf announced on Twitter recently that a resolution advocating for NYU’s participation in the BDS movement would reach student government in November.

The IDF clarified that an earlier report that its soldiers came under fire at around 9:30 pm, near Halhoul, some five kilometers north of Hebron, was incorrect.
The report from Tuesday evening said that two Palestinian cars coming from the direction of Halhoul had approached a checkpoint. One drove through the checkpoint and opened fire on the soldiers.
The report further stated that forces returned fire and arrested two suspects from the second car.
The IDF said Wednesday that it will investigate what did in fact happen.

Tel Aviv principal breaks law, opens doors to radical anti-Israel group

Israel’s Education Ministry promised to take disciplinary action after an Israeli high school invited a radical anti-Israel group to speak to the students.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
A high school principal broke the law Sunday when he invited the head of the extreme leftist organization Breaking the Silence to speak to students as part of an annual commemoration of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin’s assassination.
Education Minister Naftali Bennett’s office issued a strongly worded statement.
“The minister sees the principal’s action this morning as an anti-educational act that harms IDF soldiers,” the statement read, and spoke of  “disciplinary procedures” against the school.
The so-called “Breaking the Silence law,” submitted by Bennett’s party, Jewish Home, passed in July. It states that organizations delegitimizing the State of Israel, acting against IDF soldiers and the objectives of the Israeli education system will not be permitted to enter school premises or meet with students
Breaking the Silence, funded largely by foreign sources, describes its purpose as opposing the so-called “occupation” by publicizing hyper-critical stories about the IDF from mostly anonymous military sources.
Principal Ran Cohen of the Tichonet High School in Tel Aviv responded by saying, “We’re not afraid of having a discussion,” claiming that students were free to choose which lectures to attend.
Breaking the Silence was not the only group invited. There were also organizations not overtly political, according to Haaretz, such as the Crisis Center for Victims of Sexual Assault, and at least one representative of the right-wing Jewish Voice website, which is associated with residents of the Jewish community of Yitzhar in Samaria.

Is UN nuclear watchdog ‘unwilling or unable’ to punish Iran?

Is UN nuclear watchdog ‘unwilling or unable’ to punish Iran?IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano (AP/Ronald Zak)
The IAEA is “unable – or unwilling” to address revelations Israel has made about Iran’s nuclear weapons program, experts say.
By World Israel News Staff
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations nuclear watchdog entrusted with monitoring Iran’s nuclear program, has shown itself “unwilling or unable” to act against Iran using information provided by the Mossad, Geostrategy-Direct reported Tuesday.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed in April that his country’s intelligence agency had obtained large amounts of material proving Iran was working toward a nuclear weapon.
In his September address to the U.N. General Assembly, Netanyahu repeated some of the Mossad’s findings and urged the IAEA to “go and inspect this atomic warehouse immediately” before Iran cleaned it out. Netanyahu later called out the IAEA for failing to do so.
The head of the group, Yukiya Amano rejected Netanyahu’s demands, issuing a statement that, “In line with established safeguards practices, all information obtained, including from third parties, is subject to rigorous review and assessed together with other available information to arrive at an independent assessment based on the Agency’s own expertise.”
Geostrategy-Direct notes that this isn’t the first time the nuclear watchdog has ignored Israeli demands to hold Iran’s feet to the fire over its nuclear activity.

“There won’t be a joint capital in Jerusalem even in 1,000 years,” Minister of Education Naftali Bennett said Tuesday.
The Jewish Home Party Chairman made his comments in reaction to reports yesterday that U.S. President Donald Trump said he was ready to get “tough” with Netanyahu just as he got tough with the Palestinians.
The president reportedly made these statements to French President Emanuel Macron during the U.N. General Assembly meeting last month.

Trump reportedly told French President Emmanuel Macron that he could get “tough with [Netanyahu], just like [he did] with the Palestinians.”
By World Israel News Staff
U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly told French President Emmanuel Macron that he was considering applying pressure to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to accept his “deal of the century” Mideast peace plan.
“We are giving Israel $5 billion a year. I can be tough with Netanyahu about the peace plan, just as I was tough with the Palestinians,” Trump told Macron on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting in September, according to a report on Monday by Israel’s Channel 10 News.
According to the report, Macron raised the Israeli-Palestinian issue during the meeting with Trump, commenting, “My impression is that Netanyahu does not really want to advance the peace process, because he likes the status quo.”
Trump reportedly told to Macron that he tended to agree, responding,”I’m very close to reaching the same conclusion.”
The US president also explained that his tough stance with the Palestinians was precipitated by Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ announcement that he was severing ties with the US administration, which Trump called “unacceptable.”
“I gave a lot to Netanyahu, I transferred the embassy to Jerusalem and every year we give them $5 billion,” he added.
Several days after Trump’s meeting with Macron, Netanyahu met with the US president in New York, conducting a press conference at which Trump declared for the first time that he “likes” a two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“That’s what I think works best. That’s my feeling. Now you may have a different feeling. I don’t think so. But I think a two-state solution works best,” he added.

Human Rights Watch: Palestinians run ‘machineries of repression’
 October 23, 2018
Hamas and the Palestinian Authority engage in systemic torture and repression of dissent, a human rights organization found after a two-year investigation.
By Associated Press
Security forces of the rival Palestinian governments routinely use torture and arbitrary arrests, among other tactics, to quash dissent by peaceful activists and political rivals, Human Rights Watch said Tuesday.
The charges come in a new report released by the New York-based watchdog, following a two-year investigation that included interviews with nearly 150 people, many of them ex-detainees. It accused both the Western-backed Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and the Islamic militant Hamas in Gaza of using “machineries of repression” to stifle criticism.

Alessandro Mussolini, the granddaughter of El Duce, threatened to sue anyone who insults her late grandfather online.
By David Isaac, World Israel News
Alessandro Mussolini, the granddaughter of Benito Mussolini, threatened to sue anyone who offends the memory of her late grandfather, El Duce, on social media, in a tweet on Oct. 17.
Benito Mussolini led Italy during World War II and was an ally of Nazi leader Adolph Hitler.
The tweet sparked a backlash online and from Italy’s Jewish community.
“The real insult is what your grandfather did to Italy: first he signed the racial laws, then he brought the country to war,” wrote an offended Italian. “And remember that in Italy there is a crime against apologizing for fascism, not anti-fascism.”
According to JTA, one of the most shared responses was from Italian-Jewish actor and musician Enrico Fink. He wrote in a Facebook post:
“Dear Alessandra Mussolini,
“I read on your profile your intention to sue whoever offends your grandfather’s memory. I understand you very well: your grandfather was killed, you couldn’t know him, and you’re sorry; and you want to defend his memory. It’s understandable, and even right I’d say in some measure. I allow myself to give you that because in this we are similar: my grandfather was killed too.  I couldn’t meet him. I’m sorry too. I want to defend his memory, too. Only the person responsible for my grandfather’s death is yours.
“My grandfather and 10 members of my father’s family, elderly and children, had been arrested by Italian police, under orders signed by your grandfather, imprisoned in Fossoli, then delivered to the Nazis and shipped to Auschwitz from where they never came back.
“So you’ll understand that while respecting your legitimate opinions, I can’t have any other idea than this: Your grandfather was a criminal, a disgrace to mankind. And despite being against the death penalty, I can’t but be happy that he met the end, too late, that he did.
“If you think of suing I will be happy to explain myself better in court: but I think you well know that I have good arguments, and I have as many of them as you would like to hear. I salute you cordially.”

The German weekly Der Spiegel reported Friday that Wolfgang Seibert, a leader of a local Jewish community, is a fraud.
By David Isaac, World Israel News
The German weekly Der Spiegel reported Friday that Wolfgang Seibert, chairman of the Reform Jewish community of Pinneberg near Hamburg, is an imposter.
Seibert has served as leader of the Pinneberg community for 15 years. However, the newspaper says Seibert fabricated his family history and was actually born to a protestant family in Frankurt on August 16, 1947. At age 3, he was baptized.
More damning, Der Spiegel revealed that Seibert’s father and paternal grandfather fought in the Wehrmacht during World War II.
Seibert had claimed that his grandmother was a survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp, that his father fled to England and that his mother hailed from the Ukraine. In an interview, Seibert reported that he was the only family member his grandmother confided in about her experiences during the Holocaust.
“I think I wanted to have a Jewish history to match my feeling of having a Jewish identity,” Seibert reportedly said when presented with the evidence of his actual background.
However, Seibert has backtracked from any sort of confession and said he will consult an attorney about the magazine’s allegations. He says he has no plans to resign from his position as leader of the Pinneberg Jewish community.

Researchers at the Technion successfully shrank malignant tumors in mice by manipulating the brain’s reward system.
By Israel21c
Artificially activating the “reward system” in the brains of mice with two types of cancer led to a dramatic reduction in the size of their tumors, according to authors of a study conducted at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.
“The relationship between a person’s emotional state and cancer has been demonstrated in the past, but mainly in relation to negative feelings such as stress and depression and without a physiological map of the action mechanism,” said Assoc. Prof. Asya Rolls of the Technion Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, who supervised the study.
“Several researchers, for example Prof. David Spiegel of the Stanford University School of Medicine, showed that an improvement in the patient’s emotional state may affect the course of the disease, but it was not clear how this happened. We are now presenting a physiological model that can explain at least part of this effect,” she said.
The results were published in the journal Nature Communications by Rolls along with doctoral students Tamar Ben-Shaanan and Maya Schiller, as well as Hilla Azulay-Debby, Ben Korin, Nadia Boshnak, Tamar Koren, Maria Krot, Jivan Shakya and Michal A. Rahat, and Technion Asst. Prof. Fahed Hakim, medical director of the Scottish EMMS Hospital in Nazareth.
According to Hakim, “Understanding the brain’s influence on the immune system and its ability to fight cancer will enable us to use this mechanism in medical treatments. Different people react differently, and we’ll be able to take advantage of this tremendous potential for healing only if we gain a thorough understanding of the mechanisms.”
The authors emphasized that the study is preclinical and that they tested only two cancer models (melanoma and lung cancer) and only two developmental aspects – tumor volume and weight.
However, this breakthrough may allow doctors to realize the physiological role the patients’ mental state plays in the development of malignant diseases. By artificially activating different parts of the brain, in the future it might be possible to encourage the immune system to block development of cancerous tumors more effectively.
Rolls explained that although the immune system has been proven able to fight cancer effectively if given the right tools, “the immune cells’ involvement in cancerous processes is a double-edged sword, because certain components in these cells support tumor growth. This is done by blocking the immune response and creating an environment that is beneficial to growth.”
Rolls has been studying the brain’s effect on the immune system for several years. In a study she published in 2016 in Nature Medicine, she showed how the immune system can be stimulated to work more effectively by manipulating the brain’s reward system – which operates in positive emotional states and in anticipation of the positive.
The main breakthrough in the present study is the dramatic contraction of cancerous tumors in response to the activation of the brain’s reward system.

With Islamism and other anti-Israel forces on the rise, Jordan’s king abandoned his late father’s more cordial relations with Jerusalem.
By Daniel Krygier, World Israel News
Jordan’s recent decision to downgrade parts of its peace treaty with Israel likely took Israeli officials in Jerusalem by surprise. Where do Jordanian-Israeli relations stand today and where are they likely heading in the future?
Jordan’s decision to nix its lease of lands to Israel should be seen in the context of wider Middle Eastern developments.
By Middle Eastern standards, Jordan’s relations with the Jewish state were comparatively warm, even before a formal peace treaty was signed in 1994.  Jordan only reluctantly joined the Arab joint attacks on the nascent Jewish state in 1948 and later in 1967.

Defense Minister: Israel is on its way to war

Defense Minister: Israel is on its way to warDefense Minister Avigdor Liberman (C) arrives to a Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee meeting at the Knesset, on October 22, 2018. (Miriam Alster/Flash90)
“We have examined all the options and Israel’s final resort is to strike at Hamas,” Defense Minister Liberman said.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
Egyptian mediation has failed and Israel is on its way war. That was the message Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman delivered Monday to the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
Israel has recently seen an increase in the intensity and the volume of violence and attacks emanating from Gaza, which culminated in Wednesday’s rocket attack on Israel which destroyed a home in Beersheba.
Palestinian riots on Israel’s border with Gaza are not “popular protests” as Hamas depicts them but rather carefully orchestrated violence organized by the terror group, he said.
“Fifteen thousand people do not show up by foot at the border fence,”  Liberman said. “We have been talking since March 30 about the tens of millions [of shekels] Hamas has spent … They pay for every person killed $3,000, each seriously wounded $500, and a moderately injured [rioter receives] less than $200.”

Did lightning launch Palestinian rockets at Israel?

An Israeli aeronautical engineer says lightning could have led to the firing of Hamas rockets last Wednesday.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
Footage of the rockets fired at Israel on Wednesday taken in Gaza shows a thunderstorm prior to their launch, leading some to speculate that the rockets were actually set off by the storm and not intentionally fired by Hamas terrorists.
Is this scenario plausible? Dr. Gabi Avital, an Israeli expert on aeronautical engineering, says it’s not outside the realm of possibility.
Speaking to Israel’s Kipa website, Avital, the former chief scientist of the education ministry, explained that when systems are not properly maintained, they are prone to malfunctions.
“The level of operation, maintenance and surface conditions in which the [rocket] launchers are located are not at the level of skilled units, so a lot of safety problems can arise, and the less you maintain, the more likely you are to fail,” he said.
He added that it is reasonable to assume that the system operators “did not back up the system for an event of a lightning strike, and the possibility that lightning ignited a system definitely exists.”

Israel’s president warned of the risk of an “inner war” in his address to the General Assembly of the Jewish Federations.
By World Israel News Staff
Israeli President Reuven Rivlin warned of the danger of an “inner war” in his address to the General Assembly of the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) in Tel Aviv, on Monday.
“Just a week ago, in the opening session of the Knesset, I said that our biggest threat is our inner war,” he said. “This is true for Israeli society, and this is true for the Jewish people. We must establish the importance of our relationship as a value that is above debate.”
The president added that Jews in Israel and the Diaspora have more than shared interests, “We have a shared fate, a shared history, and a shared future…”
Reverse Birthright
Rivlin said that young Israeli Jews identify being Jewish as being Israeli. He said they need to expand their horizons in the same way Jews who come to Israel do. “I support the idea of creating a ‘Reverse Taglit’ trip for young Israelis to get to know Jewish communities worldwide,” he said, referring to the popular Birthright program that brings Jews from around the world to Israel to strengthen their Jewish identity.
“We must increase their [Israeli] exposure to your schools, camps and communities. They need to realize and feel that they have a family, a family they must take into account,” he said.

Opinion: Lara Alqasem won’t learn to love Israel at Hebrew U’s radical faculty of law

People come to Israel to supplement their leftism – which is what Lara Alqasem will do.
By Akiva Bigman, JNS.org
I went over the ruling from Judge Neal Hendel in the case of BDS activist Lara Alqasem, and I think I understand his thinking. Not only is Alqasem neglecting BDS issues (and she has for some reason deleted her social-media accounts), she has also expressed interest in Judaism and the Holocaust, which is why she wants to study in Israel.
The moving discovery was encouraging, so I started looking into what the young Ms. Alqasem wanted to study here. To increase her knowledge about the history of the Jewish people, in either ancient or modern times? To delve into Hebrew literature? To familiarize herself with Jewish texts? No, no and no. She already knows enough about all that nonsense, and in any case, no one comes to Israel to study Judaism—departments of Jewish history are as common as air abroad. People come to Israel to supplement their leftism.

Jordan’s decision to downgrade its peace treaty with Israel came as a complete surprise to Jerusalem, as it means the handing over of territories to the Jordanians.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
Jordan announced Sunday its withdrawal from part of the 1994 peace agreement with Israel, saying the agricultural areas of Naharayim and Zofar in the Jordan Valley, cultivated by Israeli farmers over the past 25 years, will be reclaimed by the kingdom.
Jerusalem was reportedly shocked by the announcement, as it essentially constitutes a downgrade of the peace treaty between the two countries.
In fact, Naharayim – Hebrew for two rivers, as it is located between the Yarmuk and Jordan Rivers – was opened this year to Israeli visitors under the name “Island of Peace.”

Israel fears the U.S. will recognize Jerusalem as a joint Israel-Palestinian capital in an attempt to jumpstart the diplomatic process.
By Jack Gold, World Israel News
Israel fears that U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan will include a declaration that Jerusalem is the capital of two states – Israel and Palestine – as a concession to the Palestinians in order to get them back to the negotiation table, Ynet reported Sunday.
The Palestinian Authority has rejected the Americans as mediators in the Mideast peace process since December, when Trump announced official U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
If the Republicans are weakened in the midterm elections next month, the report notes, the White house might ramp up pressure for a deal in the hopes of having an achievement to show voters ahead of the 2020 presidential elections.

Prime Minister Netanyahu postponed a scheduled demolition of an illegal Bedouin outpost.
By David Isaac, World Israel News
On Sunday afternoon, Israel’s Security Cabinet reaffirmed its commitment to evacuate the illegal Bedouin outpost of Khan al-Ahmar. However, it granted an extension of several weeks in order to exhaust negotiations for evacuation.
On Saturday evening, Prime Minister Netanyahu sparked a firestorm of anger from Israel’s right when he announced the delay of the illegal outpost’s destruction.
It appeared Netanyahu caved to pressure from the International Criminal Court at The Hague. Last Wednesday, the chief prosecutor of the ICC, Fatou Bensouda, warned Israel that the demolition of the outpost could constitute a war crime.

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman announced Sunday morning that he will reopen the Kerem Shalom and Erez border crossings.
By David Isaac, World Israel News
Israeli Minister of Defense Avigdor Liberman announced Sunday morning that he will reopen the Kerem Shalom and Erez border crossings, allowing supplies to enter the Gaza Strip.
Liberman’s decision came after Palestinian organizers of the ongoing mass riots on the Gaza-Israel border ordered their people to keep their distance from the border fence and to protest in a non-violent manner.
“The March of Return is continuing until its goals are attained, with an emphasis on the importance of holding marches that will be non-violent and led by the people,” one of the organizers, Khaled al-Batsh, a top leader in the Palestinian Islamic Jihad,  said in a statement late last week.

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley joked about getting the nickname ‘shiksa’ from Jews.
By The Algemeiner
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley had the audience laughing when she joked about both Jews and Iran at an event on Thursday night in New York City.
During her keynote speech at the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner in midtown Manhattan, Haley said, “I’m proud to be very close to the Jewish community. In fact, they gave me a nickname. Does anybody know what shiksa [Yiddish for non-Jewish woman] means?”
Haley later poked fun at the lack of free press in Iran saying, “They still think John Kerry is secretary of state.”

Police catch knife-wielding Palestinian who planned stabbing attack

Israeli Border Police on Saturday detained a Palestinian who later confessed to planning a terror attack near Jerusalem.
By TPS and World Israel News
A 20-year-old Palestinian man was arrested by Border Police in the community of Har Adar some 15 kilometers west of Jerusalem Saturday morning.
A knife was found near the spot where the man was arrested. He later told security forces that he had planned to carry out a stabbing attack.
In September 2017, two security guards and a Border Police officer were killed in a shooting attack on a checkpoint at the entrance to Har Adar.
The incident on Saturday follows on the heels of a number of fatal Palestinian stabbing attacks in Israeli communities, including the recent murder of activist Ari Fuld. Just a few months earlier, in July 2018, a Palestinian terrorist stabbed to death 31-year-old Israeli father of two, Yotam Ovadia, in the Adam community in Samaria’s Binyamin region. Two other victims were wounded in that attack, which was ultimately halted by one of the victims, 41-year-old Asaf Ravid, who shot the terrorist twice.

Radical Muslim cleric Anjem Choudary, said to have inspired dozens of terrorists, will appeal restrictions imposed after his release as a violation of his human rights.
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
Anjem Choudary, who was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison after swearing an oath of allegiance to ISIS, is going to appeal the 25 conditions set by the British authorities upon his release.
The hate cleric, who served just half of his sentence, has been “credited” with inspiring over 100 British citizens to join the extremist Muslim terror group and carry out attacks through his Islam4UK, or al-Muhajiroun, organization.
Two of his followers were convicted of murdering Lee Rigby, an off-duty soldier whom they hacked to death in southeast London in 2013. Others have been spotted in Syria brandishing weapons
His restrictions include a ban on preaching, accessing a computer, speaking to the media, and unsupervised contact with children. Choudary is under strict travel limitations and must hand over his mobile phone upon request. He will be electronically tagged as well.
An unnamed local told the Daily Mail, “It is sickening knowing he is so close. They should find another place for him away from the community. Everyone has heard of him. If he hates this country so much he should be deported.”
Others expressed anger over the bill taxpayers will pay for the security surrounding the 51-year-old parolee, which includes round-the-clock surveillance teams: Over £2million a year – compared to the £50,000 to keep him in jail.

The Islamic University in Gaza that receives European funds recently held a large event that openly embraced anti-Semitism and Jihad terrorism against the Jewish state.
By Daniel Krygier, World Israel News
The Islamic University in Gaza recently hosted the event “Resist with your knowledge and the knife.” It openly encouraged students to embrace lethal Jew-hatred and jihadi terrorism against Israel.
Despite its violent and openly racist agenda, the Islamic University in Gaza enjoys cooperation with and receives funds from several European universities. One of its European partners is the prestigious KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden’s equivalent of America’s MIT or Israel’s Technion.
Hate-Up Nation
Few things happen in Gaza without the blessing of the terror organization Hamas. It should therefore not come as a surprise that Hamas was involved in the recent jihadi event at the Islamic University in Gaza. While Israel has emerged as a leading Start-Up nation of innovation, Hamas has used international aid to turn Gaza into a leading laboratory of lethal hatred and destruction.
Islamist events that openly call for murdering Jews contradict Europe’s official embrace of tolerance and diversity. They constitute a flagrant violation of international law and contradict fundamental values that Europe claims to adhere to. However, this has not prevented Western organizations including European academia from funding violent supremacist jihadi events like the one recently hosted by Gaza’s Islamic University.
