China & Russia Military Build-Up Challenges US Dominance
Mar 2, 2018 | 0  |
China & Russia Military Build-Up Challenges US Dominance
(By PNW) The world is now in a second cold war among three major world powers and the massive arms race is gearing up on all sides. Both China and Russia are preparing to challenge US air superiority as well as naval dominance in the Pacific. They are making good progress in finding ways to counter US nuclear capabilities, confront the US space advantage and wage cyber warfare on an unprecedented scale. In some areas, the US’s role as the hegemonic military power of the twentieth century is being quickly overtaken while in other respects, it has already been surpassed.  As an example, China leads the world
in the size of its conventional missile arsenal that numbers in the tens of thousands and is currently developing hypersonic projectiles able to blow past any existing air defense, a technology Russia, too, now has in the Zircon missile. Here is a look at how China and Russia are presenting a real challenge to US military and diplomatic dominance. Russia’s economy has suffered setbacks in recent years, to no small degree due to sanctions imposed in response to its actions in Georgia and Ukraine. This has acted as a drag on the massive budget increases and modernization efforts of the early 2000s, but while it has reduced the pace of its spending increase,

North Korea blasts Donald Trump, threatens war with U.S.
March 1, 2018

North Korea blasts Donald Trump, threatens war with U.S.

Now that the Winter Olympic Games are over, North Korea has once again resorted to its customary saber-rattling toward the United States and President Donald Trump.

In deference to North Korea’s decision to participate in the Games, the United States agreed to suspend their annual Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military exercises with South Korea, while the hermit kingdom’s dictator, Kim Jong Un, appeared friendly. But within two days of the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games closing ceremony, North Korea was back at it, hurling insults and threats at the United States.

North Korea’s excuse was the resumption of the U.S.-South Korean military exercises.

Winter games over, war games resume
“The resumption of joint military exercises is a vicious challenge to the entire Korean nation hoping for durable peace on the Korean peninsula,” reported North Korean newspaper Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, an essentially government-run publication.

“The DPRK [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea] is making all possible efforts for the improvement of the North-South relations,” the publication continued. “[The military exercises], therefore, can never be tolerated.”

There’s only one problem with this feigned outrage: North Korea has known all along that the annual military exercises would resume after the games. It was announced on CNN over a month ago.

A different motive
But there’s something else at play here. North Korea wants to see all ties between its southern neighbor and the west — including especially the United States — come to an end. Express reported:

[Kim Jong Un] has been critical of the close relationship shared between the U.S. and South Korea. They have argued America’s interference with the South is damaging potential routes to improve relations between the two Koreas in the future.

Rodong Sinmun appeared to consider any joint U.S.-South Korean relationship an impediment to North and South Korean relations in its recent article.

“The peaceful environment on the Korean peninsula is a prerequisite to the improvement of the North-South ties,” the propaganda paper reported. It continued:

However, the U.S. and its followers are trying hard to resume the exercises and thus quench the spirit for the improvement of the north-south ties and strain the military stand-off and tension to the maximum and, furthermore, stifle the DPRK by force at any cost.

U.S. continues the pressure
During the Olympic Games, South Korean President Moon Jae-in was invited to talk directly with Kim Jong Un, but Moon made it clear that any talks would have to include the United States. The U.S., in turn, agreed to hold face-to-face discussions, but also emphasized that they would have to cover denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

The White House also recently slapped the regime with a new set of sanctions.

“We will see if Pyongyang’s message today, that it is willing to hold talks, represents the first steps along the path to denuclearization,” a White House statement read. “In the meantime, the United States and the world must continue to make clear that North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs are a dead end.”

But according to Express, “the new sanctions have sparked outrage in Pyongyang.”

“If the U.S. resumes the joint military exercises, we will resolutely counter them,” Rodong Sinmun reported on Monday.

It seems that the North Korean regime still isn’t fully aware of who they’re messing with. We may have taken home numerous Olympic medals, but President Donald Trump and the U.S. military don’t play any games when it comes to the safety of Americans.

Iran has established a military base outside Syria's capital city of Damascus. Fox News published the Israeli satellite photos showing the base eight miles northwest of Damascus on Wednesday.

The images reportedly show two warehouses storing missiles capable of hitting all of Israel. According to the report, members of the Iran Revolutionary Guard's special operations Quds Force are operating the base.

Last week, the New York Times reported the locations of dozens of bases in Syria operated by Iranian forces, including a map showing the location of a T4 airbase near Tadmor. Also in the map was the airport of Damascus, which Israel has reportedly attacked on multiple occasions.

>> Thirteen Israeli border points raising tensions with Lebanon <<

Iranian officials openly claim that they are working to build an axis of resistance to Israel and the U.S. in the region. Iranian strategy is based on building ties with local forces who share the same goals.

Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman responded to the report in an interview with Wednesday morning saying, "There's nothing new under the sun, and there is no need to treat all information in the media as absolute. We are listening and following the events. We will also act in the international arena to achieve everything possible."

Iranian presence in Syria
At the Munich Security Conference last week, Netanyahu warned that Israel would act against Iran if needed. "We will act if necessary not just against Iran's proxies but against Iran itself," he said, holding up a piece of an Iranian drone Israel shot down after it infiltrated its territory.

"Iran continues to try to cross those red lines," said the prime minister. "Last week its brazenness reached new heights, literally new heights. Israel will not allow the Iranian regime to put a noose of terror around our neck." Netanyahu asked Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who was sitting in the crowd: "Do you recognize it? You should, it’s yours. Don’t test us."

Netanyahu added: "This action is intended to fight Iranian aggression on the ground toward the upcoming decision in Washington on the Iran deal. I will be meeting President Trump soon and this will be our first topic of discussion, this bad agreement that allows Iran to run on the highway towards nuclear weapons. The current situation needs to be changed with or without a change in the agreement."

Two weeks ago, an Iranian drone that crossed into Israeli airspace was intercepted by the Israel Air Force, sparking a flare-up between Israel and Syria, with an Israeli F-16 shot down and an extensive Israeli strike against Iranian and Syrian targets in Syria.

In December, Syrian state television reported that Israeli warplanes struck a military base near Damascus. According to the pro-Assad news outlets, the target of the attack was an Iranian military base and the Israeli aircraft had been launched from Lebanese airspace. The reports also said that Israeli surface-to-surface missiles had been intercepted by Syrian air defenses.

The report did not divulge further details as to the attack's target or of casualties sustained. Forces connected to the Syrian military told Reuters that the Israeli Air Force fired six missiles that caused a large fire in the area.

WAR DRUMS: Israel and Iran on collision course over Syria…
Feb 22, 2018 | 0  |
WAR DRUMS: Israel and Iran on collision course over Syria…
Iran and Israel are on a collision course over Tehran’s expanding footprint in Syria, raising the odds of a direct clash between the region’s two military heavyweights that could quickly draw in other combatants. With Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement, Iran’s most potent military ally, emboldened by their success in upholding Syrian President Bashar Assad, Israel is growing more and more wary of being attacked by missiles not just from southern Lebanon but also from inside Syria.
Israel has been sporadically bombing Hezbollah positions in Syria for the past three years. But the situation reached new heights this month when what Israel said was an Iranian armed stealth drone was intercepted and downed over Israel and an Israeli F-16 fighter jet was in turn shot down by anti-aircraft fire from inside Syria during a retaliatory airstrike. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif traded belligerent taunts at a major security conference in Munich this week,

RUMORS OF WAR: Lebanon threatens all out war with Israel ‘at any cost’ in shock warning
Feb 20, 2018 | 1  |
RUMORS OF WAR: Lebanon threatens all out war with Israel ‘at any cost’ in shock warning
A blunt threat was issued to Israel by the head of the Lebanese army when he vowed to do whatever it takes fight aggression from Tel Aviv at a conference on increasing stability in the Middle East. General Joseph Aoun’s furious remarks were made in a speech at the “Support for Stability and Development in the Arab States and the Middle East” regional conference. Lebanon and Israel have seen relations strain
in recent years over Tel Aviv’s plans to build a border wall and Beirut’s decision to explore for offshore energy near disputed waters. General Aoun said: “I reiterate today our categorical rejection of the Israeli enemy’s sovereignty of Lebanon and its sacred right to invest all its economic resources. “And the army will not spare any method available to confront any Israeli aggression, whatever that costs.”

Trump tells Putin now time for peace between Israelis and Palestinians
Feb 13, 2018 | 0  |
Trump tells Putin now time for peace between Israelis and Palestinians
U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday told his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, that “now is the time” to work toward an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement. The two leaders spoke on the phone shortly before Putin met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. According to statements released by both the White House and the Kremlin, the Israeli-Palestinian peace process was an important part of the conversation between the two leaders.
In the statement, the White House said that after Trump offered his condolences to Putin for the fatal plane crash that took place in Moscow over the weekend, the Russian President noted his meeting with Abbas later in the day, “and President Trump said that now is the time to work toward an enduring peace agreement.” During their meeting, Abbas told Putin he could no longer accept the role of the United States as a mediator in talks with Israel because of Washington’s behaviour, the Interfax news agency reported.

DEVELOPING: Israel appears to be preparing for major war, Gives strong warning to Iran

DEVELOPING: Israel appears to be preparing for major war, Gives strong warning to Iran
Israel has boosted its air defense in the North following a significant confrontation between the Jewish State, Syria and Iran which led to the loss of an F-16 fighter jet.  While the army refused to comment on the reports, witnesses reported seeing a convoy of missile-defense batteries heading north near the Israeli-Arab city of Baka al-Gharbiya. Other witnesses posted photos of several trucks carrying the batteries on central highways in northern Israel.
Israel’s air defenses currently include the Iron Dome, designed to shoot down short-range rockets; the Arrow system, which intercepts ballistic missiles outside of the Earth’s atmosphere and the David’s Sling missile-defense system, which is designed to intercept tactical ballistic missiles, medium- to long-range rockets and cruise missiles fired from ranges of between 40 km. to 300 km. Israel also has Patriot missile batteries stationed in the North and has used them to intercept drones infiltrating into Israeli airspace from Syria.

MAKES STRONG THREAT TO IRAN: Israel issued stark warnings on Sunday over Iran’s presence in neighboring Syria after a confrontation threatened to open a new and unpredictable period in the country’s seven-year civil war. Israel carried out major air raids in Syria on Saturday, including against what it described as Iranian targets — the first time it had publicly acknowledged doing so since the war began. The raids came after an Israeli F16 fighter was shot down by Syrian air defences. The pilots survived, but it was Israel’s first loss of a warplane in battle since 1982. “We inflicted on Saturday a heavy blow to Iranian and Syrian forces,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the start of Sunday’s cabinet meeting.

RUMORS OF WAR: Damascus warns Israel of ‘more surprises’ in Syria

RUMORS OF WAR: Damascus warns Israel of ‘more surprises’ in Syria
Israel will face “more surprises” should it again attack Syrian territory, Damascus said on Tuesday, after Syria’s air defenses shot down an advanced Israeli warplane during the fiercest flare-up between the old foes in 36 years.  The F-16 jet was hit over northern Israel on Saturday as it returned from a raid on a Syrian position blamed for launching an Iranian-made drone across the border. Iran is supporting President Bashar al-Assad in Syria’s near seven-year civil war.
“Have full confidence the aggressor will be greatly surprised, because it thought this war – this war of attrition Syria has been exposed to for years – had made it incapable of confronting attacks,” Assistant Foreign Minister Ayman Sussan said. “God willing, they will see more surprises whenever they try to attack Syria,” Sussan said during a Damascus news conference. Israel asked the United Nations Security Council on Saturday to condemn Iran after an Iranian drone was shot down over Israeli territory earlier in the day. The Israeli ambassador to the UN called on the panel to "put an end to Iranian provocations."

The Israeli military says it shot down an Iranian drone that infiltrated the country and struck Iranian targets in Syria that launched it. Syrian air-defense missiles hit an Israeli F-16 fighter jet, prompting the pilots to eject. Following the downing of the jet, Israel carried out what an Air Force general said was the "largest and most significant" strike in Syria since 1982.

"This is not the first time we warn you of Iran's dangerous and destabilizing actions in the region," ambassador Danny Danon wrote in the letter. "This incident proves that each and every one of those warnings turned out to be true. Israel will defend its civilians and will not tolerate any violation of its sovereignty."

In the letter, Dannon called on the Security Council to condemn Iran. "The Security Council must condemn this dangerous move and put an end to Iranian provocation." Dannon noted Iran was in violation of Security Council resolutions.

Hezbollah earlier said that the downing of an Israeli F-16 marks the "start of a new strategic phase."

"Today's developments mean the old equations have categorically ended," the group said in an official statement.

Russia, a member of the Security Councill, expressed serious concerns about the latest developments in Syria and called on the sides to exercise restraint and avoid an escalation of the situation.

"We urge all sides to exercise restraint and to avoid any actions that could lead to an even greater complication of the situation," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. "It is necessary to unconditionally respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and other countries in the region."

Iran, meanwhile, issued its first official response to the events, with its Foreign Ministry rejecting as "ridiculous" reports that Israel had intercepted an Iranian drone launched from Syria.

Hezbollah said that an Israeli F-16 was shot down on Saturday marks the "start of a new strategic phase," in an official statement released on Saturday.

The comments come after multiple Israeli strikes on Syrian and Iranian targets in Syria, following a downing of an Iranian drone which entered Israeli airspace, and a downing of an Israeli F-16 by Syrian air defenses.

Hezbollah condemned Israeli aggression, stating that exploitation of Syrian airspace will be limited. "Today's developments mean the old equations have categorically ended," said the statement.

Moscow also expressed serious concerns about the latest developments in Syria and called on the sides to exercise restraint and avoid an escalation of the situation, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

"We urge all sides to exercise restraint and to avoid any actions that could lead to an even greater complication of the situation," the ministry said in a statement. "It is necessary to unconditionally respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and other countries in the region."

"Reports of downing an Iranian drone flying over Israel and also Iran's involvement in attacking an Israeli jet are so ridiculous ... Iran only provides military advice to Syria," TV quoted Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi as saying.

Earlier on Saturday, the pro-Assad military alliance, which includes Iran and Hezbollah, warned Israel that any new act of what it called "terrorism" will be met with a "severe and serious response."

>> Iranian drone, downed Israeli fighter jet: What we know about latest Israel-Syria escalation

The statement said that Israel claims the drone entered Israeli airspace are "a lie," adding that the drones were being used to combat the Islamic State.

A senior official was quoted in the statement saying he does not believe matters will develop into a regional war.

Meanwhile, the deputy head of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards Corps declined to comment on the drone incident, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

"We cannot confirm this report on the drone because Israelis are liars ... if Syrians confirm it, Iran will confirm it as well," Brigadier General Hossein Salami said, according to Tasnim.

On Saturday, Israel targeted 12 sites around Damascus after an Israeli F-16 was downed. According to the Israeli army, Syrian anti-aircraft missiles targeted the jet after Israel responded to the infiltration of an Iranian drone with a strike in Syria.

The two F-16 pilots ejected as the plane went down in northern Israel. The pilots were taken to the hospital in stable condition. One of the pilots is in serious condition. Following the downing of the jet Israel responded with a fresh "large-scale strike" in Syria.
An Israeli military spokesman said that Syria and Iran are "playing with fire" and will pay a heavy price. The Prime Minister's Office has instructed cabinet ministers not to speak publicly about the events on the northern border.

China deploys 300,000 soldiers to North Korea’s doorstep

China deploys 300,000 soldiers to North Korea’s doorstep
Dan / CCL
The People’s Republic of China is reportedly moving 300,000 troops to its border with North Korea, in anticipation of hostilities between the rogue regime and the United States.
Given the 880 mile length of the border, this would amount to a concentration of one soldier for every 15.5 feet.
Missile defense system strengthened
South Korea’s Chosun Ilbo was the first news outlet to announce the buildup. It reported:
China is preparing for a potential war on the Korean Peninsula by reinforcing missile defenses near the border with North Korea, Radio Free Asia reported Friday.
RFA quoted a North Korean source in China as saying the Chinese military late last year deployed another missile defense battery at an armored division in Helong, west of Longjing in the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture.
Military units in Yanbian were relocated from Heilongjiang Province, thus adding 300,000 troops along the border, the source added.
The report went on to say that missile defense batteries will be deployed close to several North Korean reservoirs to augment the troop movement.

Russia builds four new air bases in Syria, deploys another 6,000 troops
Contrary to Moscow’s promises, the Russian military is not pulling out of Syria, but adding four more air bases (one shared with Iran) and 6,000 more troops. On Dec. 11, 2017, Russian President Vladimir Putin, followed by Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, announced that the Russian military was to withdraw from Syria to home bases.
DEBKAfile’s military and intelligence sources report that the reverse happened. A small number of units were indeed sent home, but they were sooner replaced, and instead of two bases – the air facility at Hmeimim and the naval installation at Tartus – four more Syrian air bases are being reconstructed and adapted for the use of the Russian air force. The attached map illustrates their locations:

A small number of units were indeed sent home, but they were sooner replaced, and instead of two bases – the air facility at Hmeimim and the naval installation at Tartus – four more Syrian air bases are being reconstructed and adapted for the use of the Russian air force.
The attached map illustrates their locations:

The Tiyas Military Airbase (also known as T-4) in the Homs Governorate west of Palmyra, is the largest in Syria. The Russians are massively converting it into their main center of aerial operations in central Syria. Tyas will also provide backup as needed for Khmeimim, if drone, missile and mortar attacks recur.
Palmyra (or Tadmor) Airport provides air support for operations in eastern Syria including the Deir ez-Zour province. Moscow has agreed to share it with Iran. The Revolutionary Guards Al Qods chief Gen. Qassem Soleimani is planning to make Palmyra the main assembly center for the transfer of pro-Iranian Iraqi Shiite militias from southern Iraq to Syria.
From Hama Military Airport west of Hama, the Russians will exercise control from the air of central Syria and the northern and central highways to Damascus. Still more importantly, this airport’s location places it just 125km as the crow flies (173km by road) from Russia’s Tartus naval base on the Mediterranean coast.
Shayrat, at Homs (which became notorious as the target of a massive US Tomahawk attack last year) is the main landing site for air transports which bring the Russian and Iranian forces troop reinforcements, weapons and spare parts.
More than 6,000 additional Russian military personnel are assigned to the four renovated bases in Syria – most of them air force and special operations personnel. Some have arrived.
The attached map shows how the new layer of Russian bases in western, central and eastern Syria faces the chain of military locations the Americans have decided to keep in northern Syria. The two powers are evidently in a race for bases in Syria. In strategic terms, the two powers are dividing a large swath of Syria between them as regions of influence, leaving any future ruler in Damascus with just about half of Syrian territory under government control.

U.S. military warns China and Russia will soon be able to shoot down satellites

U.S. military warns China and Russia will soon be able to shoot down satellites

In just two years, two of America’s greatest international rivals will develop the capacity to strike and destroy low-orbiting satellites with sophisticated anti-satellite weaponry, according to the Pentagon’s Joint Staff.

The Joint Staff intelligence directorate warned that “China and Russia will be capable of severely disrupting or destroying U.S. satellites in low-earth orbit” by 2020, representing a new threat for which Americans must prepare, officials familiar with the Joint Staff report told The Washington Free Beacon.

Satellite fight
Space warfare is not an entirely new frontier for human conflict; both the United States and Soviet Union developed systems to attack satellites from space during the Cold War. Space expert Michael J. Listner, founder of Space Law & Policy Solutions, explained these early developments:

The United States ASAT program, Program 437, took the form of the ASM-135 missile, or the “flying tomato can” and was intended by the Reagan administration to be a deterrent to the Soviet co-orbital system.

Since then, advancement has been streamlined. Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said last year that Russia possesses a “diverse suite of capabilities to affect satellites in all orbital regimes.”

In his testimony before Congress last May, he warned:

We assess that Russia and China perceive a need to offset any U.S. military advantage derived from military, civil, or commercial space systems and are increasingly considering attacks against satellite systems as part of their future warfare doctrine. Both will continue to pursue a full range of anti-satellite weapons as a means to reduce U.S. military effectiveness.

Likewise, China has already proven their potential for this pioneering means of warfare.

“Ten years after China intercepted one of its own satellites in low-earth orbit, its ground-launched ASAT [anti-sattelite] missiles might be nearing operational service within the PLA,” Coats explained.

“Fragile and vulnerable”
According to a report by the National Institute for Public Policy, as of 2016, there were nearly 800 satellites in low earth orbit, owned and operated by 43 nations. Thirty-seven of these will soon be vulnerable to Chinese and Russian attacks due to their highly elliptical patterns of orbit.

Former Pentagon missile expert Steve Lambakis, who authored the policy study, described the challenge ahead for American lawmakers:

U.S. space systems are among the most fragile and vulnerable assets operated by the U.S. military.

“This vulnerable communications and data collection, processing, and distribution infrastructure is worth billions of dollars and is vital to nearly every activity of the United States and, increasingly, the armed forces of U.S. allies,” he stated.

Judgement day scenario
In a hypothetical hour-by-hour account detailing the loss of infrastructure which would inevitably accompany a massive attack on America’s space technology, BBC contributor Richard Hollingham notes that civilians would at first consider an attack a minor annoyance as satellite cable and international broadcasts would be lost.

Soon, however, unmanned aerial reconnaissance drones would lose contact with their operators, while military vessels at sea and in the air would be cut off from command and control. The president would have a swiftly escalating disaster on his hands and, as Hollingham conjectures, pilots would lose contact with traffic control towers and fishermen and other workers people working in remote locations would find themselves cut off from society without the use of sat-phones.

Understanding the true breadth of this cataclysmic scenario requires an understanding of the importance of Global Positioning Systems. Hollingham explains how modern society is held together by these “highly accurate atomic clocks in space:”

Our infrastructure is held together by time – from time stamps on complex financial transactions to the protocols that hold the internet together. When the packets of data passing between computers get out of sync, the system starts to break down. Without accurate time, every network controlled by computers is at risk. Which means almost everything.

When the GPS signals stopped, back-up systems (employing accurate clocks on the ground) kicked in. But, within a few hours, time had started to slip. A fraction of a second in Europe, compared to the US; a tiny difference between India and Australia. The cloud began to fail, web searches became slower, the internet started to grind to a halt. The first power cuts came later in the evening, as transmission networks struggled to balance demand. At computerized water treatment works, engineers switched to manual back-up systems. In major cities, traffic lights and railway signals defaulted to red, bringing transport to a standstill. Mobile phone services, already patchy, finally failed in the late afternoon.

Total, unmitigated disaster would follow, as the wellspring of contemporary society would dry up and leave North America a cold, dark continent.

While this may seem like a doomsday scenario devoid of reality, Americans should remember that there are two world powers working tirelessly to develop the anti-satellite technology needed to return the U.S. to the Dark Ages.

It’s possible — and we need to be prepared.

Russian jet flies within 5 feet of US Navy plane…
A Russian Su-27 jet performed an unsafe intercept of a US Navy surveillance plane while it was flying in international airspace over the Black Sea Monday, three defense officials told CNN. The American pilots reported that the Russian jet came within 5 feet of the US plane, according to two of the officials.
The Russian jet’s action forced the US Navy aircraft to end its mission prematurely, one of the officials said.
US Naval Forces Europe, which oversees US operations in the region, later confirmed the incident in a statement. “This interaction was determined to be unsafe due to the SU-27 closing to within five feet and crossing directly through the EP-3’s flight path, causing the EP-3 to fly through the SU-27’s jet wash,” Capt. Pamela Kunze, a spokesperson for US Naval Forces Europe told CNN.

Pentagon Warns Of China and Russia Soon Capable of Destroying U.S. Satellites
China and Russia are developing anti-satellite missiles and other weapons and will soon be capable of damaging or destroying all U.S. satellites in low-earth orbit, according to the Pentagon’s Joint Staff. The Joint Staff intelligence directorate, known as J-2, issued the warning in a recent report on the growing threat of anti-satellite (ASAT) weapons from those states, according to officials familiar with the assessment.
The report concludes that “China and Russia will be capable of severely disrupting or destroying U.S. satellites in low-earth orbit” in the next several years, said the officials. The capability to attack low-earth orbit satellites could be in place by 2020, the officials said. A Joint Staff spokesman declined to comment, citing a policy of not discussing internal reports. The J-2 report echoes a similar but less specific warning from Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats in May.

RUMORS OF WAR: Is There A War Brewing Between Israel And Lebanon?
Jan 30, 2018 | 0 |
RUMORS OF WAR: Is There A War Brewing Between Israel And Lebanon?
Lebanon was warned recently by Israeli spokesperson and Israel Defense Force Brig. Gen. Ronen Manelis that war could break out between the two countries if Iran continues its development of precision missiles within Lebanon. Manelis blames the Lebanese government and the “blind eye” of some in the international community who have stood by and watched as Hezbollah, the political and
militant arm of the Shiite Islamist political party based in Lebanon, has built an arsenal within the country. “Lebanon has become – both by its own actions and omissions and by a blind eye from many members of the international community – one large missile factory,” Manelis wrote. He went on to add that Iran is no longer just funding Hezbollah in Iran’s quest to destroy Israel but rather Iran is “now here.”

Report: Iran has fired nearly two dozen nuclear-capable missiles since 2015
January 28, 2018
https://www.conservativeinstitute.org/foreign-policy/iran/report-iran-has-fired.htm?utm_source=boomtrain&utm_medium=automated&utm_campaign=ci3&bt_alias=eyJ1c2VySWQiOiAiZWY0MGMwZDctYmU0Ni00YjlhLThhNGUtZWNlOTA1ODUyOTJjIn0%3D
Report: Iran has fired nearly two dozen nuclear-capable missiles since 2015
Borna_Mirahmadian / CCL
The ineffectiveness of the Iran Deal, the chief foreign policy accomplishment of the Barack Obama administration, continues to show.

According to Fox News, a new report is soon to be released showing that since the deal was made in 2015, Iran has fired 23 missiles — many of which were nuclear-capable.

This provides support for President Trump and those who believe that the deal, which limited Iran’s nuclear capabilities in exchange for decreased sanctions on the Middle Eastern nation, did far too little.

The Report
The report is the result of a study done by the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), a non-profit, non-partisan, national security and foreign policy think tank.

Behnam Ben Taleblue, author of the report and FDD senior Iran analyst, wrote that the study “identified as many as 23 ballistic missile launches by Iran since the conclusion of the July 2015 nuclear deal.” Sixteen of the missiles were nuclear-capable, according to Fox News, who was given access to the report.

The report goes on to suggest that the Trump administration’s threat — to remove the U.S. from the Iran deal by May if changes are not made — has been far more effective than the actual deal:

Out of all the ballistic missiles Iran fired in 2017, only four or five missiles can be considered nuclear-capable. In 2016, Iran fired 10 to 11 missiles than can be considered nuclear-capable. It is highly likely that the administration’s threat intimidated Tehran, altering its flight-testing calculus.

The report further states that the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps complained of testing delays due to fear of a possible U.S. retaliation.

Iran Deal
The Iran Deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), is an agreement between the U.S., U.K., Russia, France, China, Germany, and Iran “to ensure that Iran’s nuclear program will be exclusively peaceful.” It was adopted in October 2015 and implemented in January 2016.

The nations who are a part of JCPOA agreed that the U.S. and several Eurasian countries would lift harsh economic sanctions on Iran in exchange for limitations to its nuclear program. The limitations were largely aimed at eliminating and reducing those aspects of Iran’s nuclear program that could lead to the production of weapons.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) plays the role of supervising Iran’s compliance.

The deal was considered the crowning foreign policy achievement of former President Obama, and it continues to have many supporters, who will be quick to note that the FDD report does not seem to indicate that Iran has violated the deal in any way. After all, the goal was to restrict Iran’s nuclear program, not its general production of missiles.

President Trump leading the critics
Critics of the deal, on the other hand, will retort that this is exactly the point. The most trenchant critic has been none other than President Trump, who has criticized the deal at every possible turn. He said earlier this month:

I have been very clear about my opinion of that deal. It gave Iran far too much in exchange for far too little. The enormous financial windfall the Iranian regime received because of the deal—access to more than $100 billion, including $1.8 billion in cash—has not been used to better the lives of the Iranian people. Instead, it has served as a slush fund for weapons, terror, and oppression, and to further line the pockets of corrupt regime leaders. The Iranian people know this, which is one reason why so many have taken to the streets to express their outrage[.]

In this same statement, Trump offered the parties to the deal the following ultimatum: agree to my provisions, or American will pull out.

He said:

First, it must demand that Iran allow immediate inspections at all sites requested by international inspectors. Second, it must ensure that Iran never even comes close to possessing a nuclear weapon. Third, unlike the nuclear deal, these provisions must have no expiration date. My policy is to deny Iran all paths to a nuclear weapon—not just for ten years, but forever. Fourth, the legislation must explicitly state in United States law—for the first time—that long-range missile and nuclear weapons programs are inseparable, and that Iran’s development and testing of missiles should be subject to severe sanctions.

The European nations involved in the deal, on the other hand, would like to see it continue, preferring to add to it rather than get rid of it altogether. Trump is giving all parties involved until May to work out a revised or new deal.

Russian Spy Ship Spotted off North Carolina Coast…
The Russian spy ship, the Viktor Leonov, was spotted 100 miles south-east of Wilmington, North Carolina, in international waters, according to a US military official, just days after the vessel was seen leaving the capital of Trinidad and Tobago, Port of Spain. Two US military officials said the Russian ship is being tracked by the destroyer USS Cole and other naval assets.
Outfitted with a variety of high-tech spy equipment and designed to intercept communications signals, the Viktor Leonov was observed operating in the Caribbean last week, a US defense official told CNN.
It was unclear at the time where the vessel was heading, but the official said the spy ship has typically traveled up the eastern seaboard near Cape Canaveral, King’s Bay, Norfolk and New London in the past.
All these locations are home to US naval installations.

Iran Threatens U.S. Navy Ships Amid Massive War Drills

Iran Threatens U.S. Navy Ships Amid Massive War Drills
Iranian military leaders claimed Monday that they threatened two American-led vessels in international waters amid a series of new war drills being carried out by the Islamic Republic, according to regional reports and U.S. military officials who confirmed to the Washington Free Beacon contact with the Iranian vessels. As Iran carries out a several days long series of war drills in the Sea of Oman, off the country’s southern border, military leaders claim to have warned off at least two vessels led by U.S.
coalition forces in the region. U.S. military officials confirmed being in contact with Iranian forces, which is just the latest in a series of provocative interactions between the Iranian military and United States. “One U.S. warship operating in the Gulf of Oman received a transmission from Iranian maritime forces announcing an Iranian exercise,” Cmdr. William Urban, a spokesman for U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, told the Free Beacon Monday evening.

CIA Boss Hints At Preemptive Strike On North Korea…
Jan 23, 2018 | 0  |
CIA Boss Hints At Preemptive Strike On North Korea…
The Central Intelligence Agency is briefing President Donald Trump on the risks and opportunities of a limited attack on North Korea, its director revealed on Tuesday.  CIA Director Mike Pompeo would not discuss the “wisdom of a preemptive strike” on Pyongyang or its nuclear weapons program, he told an audience at the conservative American Enterprise Institute. But in rare public remarks, Pompeo portrayed North Korea as an urgent priority for the agency, and disclosed aspects of its role in setting back Kim Jong Un’s nuclear program during his first year at Langley.
Kim is a rational man, Pompeo said the CIA had assessed. But it’s less clear that Kim takes seriously the prospect of a U.S. attack, something that could blunder the world into a devastating nuclear conflict. Pompeo would not answer if options exist for Trump to attack North Korea short of a nuclear war. Analysts warn a limited strike would lead to such a war should North Korea retaliate and prompt escalation. He indicated instead the administration was developing a range of options spanning from diplomacy to war, so Trump will not face a binary choice between inaction and potential nuclear devastation.

PROPHECY WATCH: Will Turkish Invasion of Syria Bring About Pre-Messianic Conflict With Russia?
Jan 23, 2018 | 0  |
PROPHECY WATCH: Will Turkish Invasion of Syria Bring About Pre-Messianic Conflict With Russia?
Turkey launched a military incursion into neighboring Syria over the weekend, bringing Russian and Turkish soldiers into closer proximity in an already volatile region, making a 200-year-old prophecy of pre-Messianic conflict between Russia and Turkey appear to be closer than ever before. This 200-year-old prophecy was a closely guarded secret until just a few years ago and details described in the prophecy are strongly consistent with the situation developing to the North of Israel. A massive Turkish ground force crossed into the Afrin region of Syria to fight the Kurdish militia and push them out of Syria. The Turkish government claims their goal is to establish a 19-mile buffer zone against the Kurdistan Workers
Party (PKK), a militant group based in Syria. If the conflict intensifies, it could pit Turkey directly against Russia, which has boosted its military presence and bases in Syria in an effort to support the Syrian government in the country’s nearly seven-year-long civil war. A conflict between Turkey and Russia was predicted over 200 years ago by Rabbi Elijah ben Solomon Zalman, known as the Vilna Gaon, one of the greatest Jewish scholars of the 18th century who was also a known Kabbalist (mystic). Just before his death, the Vilna Gaon made a two-part prophecy that was kept secret, transferred orally from teacher to student for generations.

Trump warns America: Russia is undermining the U.S. on North Korea
January 18, 2018

Trump warns America: Russia is undermining the U.S. on North Korea
Gage Skidmore / CCL
The nuclear showdown between North Korea and the United States appears to be in a stalemate. Despite a number of global sanctions, Pyongyang still reportedly has access to coal and oil supplies, and this isn’t pleasing to Washington or European security forces.

Some, including President Trump, assert that Russia is undermining the international community’s attempts to economically isolate North Korea. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Reuters, the president claimed that Moscow is offsetting some of the progress made by China by giving Pyongyang access to energy supplies.

Russia has denied any wrongdoing.

Could these assertions weaken objectives to improve U.S.-Russia relations?

Trump Accuses Russia of Helping North Korea
Western European security sources told the newswire last month that Russian tankers supplied oil and coal to North Korea in the weeks following the sanctions. According to the sources, there was a minimum of three instances that Russia transferred cargoes at sea to North Korea that would violate the international penalties.

On Wednesday, President Trump reiterated these concerns to Reuters, warning that Russia is undermining the efforts by China, the U.S., and other regional players. He also praised Beijing for its measures but noted that the world’s second-largest economy could do a little bit more.

Trump said at the Oval Office in a 53-minute interview:

Russia is not helping us at all with North Korea. What China is helping us with, Russia is denting. In other words, Russia is making up for some of what China is doing.

He [Vladimir Putin] can do a lot. But unfortunately we don’t have much of a relationship with Russia, and in some cases it’s probable that what China takes back, Russia gives. So the net result is not as good as it could be.

Russian leadership maintains that it has not contravened the sanctions installed by the United Nations Security Council. Beijing and Moscow both signed onto the sanctions imposed in 2017.

Trump Talks Other China, North Korean Issues
With a fresh can of Diet Coke on his desk, the president discussed other issues relating to China and North Korea.

He revealed that he was considering slapping a large fine on China over allegations of theft of intellectual property. The accusations are still being investigated.

One of the biggest challenges facing Trump’s second year in the White House will undoubtedly be Kim Jong Un and his nuclear artillery. When asked about meeting with the North Korean leader, Trump expressed doubts that face-to-face negotiations would be successful.

“I’d sit down, but I‘m not sure that sitting down will solve the problem,” the president said, citing his three predecessors for failing to settle the foreign policy file.

On many previous occasions, Trump has not dismissed direct communications with Kim.

In the end, the president wants a “peaceful” conclusion.

This month, Kim said he would be open to enter into talks with South Korea. The announcement surprised many observers, including Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who urged Kim to “tell me he wants to talk.”

Ahead of the Winter Olympics, North Korea announced that it would march with its southern neighbors under the same flag. North Korea is sending a delegation of 500 people to the Olympics, a diplomatic overture that could ease tensions and establish a further dialogue.

Trump needs a resolution quick. If it takes the Winter Olympics to achieve this, then the International Olympic Committee (IOC) may finally be useful for something rather than destroying economies and fleecing taxpayers.

Let’s hope this is the exception, and something useful comes out of the 2018 Olympic Games.

U.S. scientist says North Korea has up to 60 bombs at nuclear facility
January 16, 2018

U.S. scientist says North Korea has up to 60 bombs at nuclear facility
The ongoing battle of words between the United States and North Korea has been ramping up for some time. It’s difficult to know how serious the situation is, as some of it has been fought on Twitter, with President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un taking shots at each other about “nuclear buttons.”

Now, however, one scientist says the threat is real. Sig Hecker, the former director of Los Alamos National Laboratory, has visited North Korea seven times and says he’s seen evidence that they have been progressing their nuclear weapons program; he estimates that the country has between 30 and 60 nuclear weapons available.

That’s shocking news, to say the least.

The Visits
Hecker was invited to visit Yongbyon, the secretive North Korean nuclear facility, in 2004. Since then, he has been back six more times to view their progress.

He spoke with CBS’ 60 Minutes on Sunday:

They bring in, and it’s a red metal box about yea big, about this thick. They open the metal box. They take out a white wooden box. White wooden box has a slide off top. So they slide off the top. I look in there. The director says, “Over here, this glass jar. That’s our product. That’s the plutonium.

Hecker would know plutonium when he sees it; as the man formerly responsible for United States nuclear development, he’s well-versed in what to look for.

The scientist says the box handed to him was real.

Robert Carlin, a former CIA employee who has studied the North Koreans for over 40 years, says the strange idea of North Korea showing an American scientist their nuclear secrets isn’t so strange after all.

Nobody would believe them otherwise, right? People would say, “Oh, they’re just posturing. Oh, it’s propaganda.” So how are you going to convince the Americans? You get an expert who knows plutonium when he sees it and you, you hand it to him. You say, “Here it is. What do you think?”

What Does It All Mean?
Secretary of Defense James Mattis has said the U.S. cannot accept North Korea as a nuclear power.

Kim Jong Un has responded by declaring that North Korea will never give up its program and will continue to see the United States as its biggest threat.

Carlin says there’s a basic misunderstanding in Washington about how to view the North Korean nuclear debate.

“I think they understand us better than we understand them” he told the Daily Mail. “We’re still weighed down with a lot of stereotypes and they’re going to trip us up.”

The situation is clearly a tense one and hopefully, leaders of both countries can arrive at a reasonable path for moving forward.

Russia carries out massive military drill with thousands of troops simulating attack
Russia has sparked fears of a potential war looming as thousands of troops simulated a deadly attack during huge military drills. Pictures from the Khmelyovka training ground show soldiers in a massive range of war scenarios, including detonating weapons on the battlefield. Huge explosions are seen in some of the photos, blasting sand from the beach as fireball erupted.

Troops were seen testing out UR-77 Meteroit mine clearing systems, or working with an array of pistols and guns. And flares filled the air with smoke as soldiers advanced on their targets under the cover of the thick black plumes. The drills involved more than1,000 soldiers, including the engineer and sapper units of the Russian Navy’s Baltic Fleet.

Kim Jong-un could launch nuclear strike on US in less than Six Months
North Korea could be able to launch a nuclear attack on the United States in less than six months despite sanctions starting to have a large effect on the population, East Asia expert Gordon Chang warned. North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un warned he was ready to press the “nuclear button” on his desk to hit the United States, possibly kickstarting World War 3.
But Mr Chang said the international community has between three to six months before North Korea reaches nuclear capability to defuse tensions. He said: “Kim Jong-un actually doesn’t have a button he can push right now. Maybe three months, six months from now, he can pick up the phone and launch a nuke at the United States. “The one thing Kim can do is launch an electromagnetic pulse device: he doesn’t need heat shielding, he doesn’t need guidance. He could do a lot of damage to the United States.”

RUMORS OF WAR: Chinese President orders army to prepare for War…
In the clip, filmed in Central Theatre Command on Wednesday, more than 7,000 Chinese servicemen await Xi’s New Year orders. As the camera pans through the crowd, it gives an insight into how regimented the world’s largest army is. Speaking in front of thousands of troops and over 300 perfectly organized military vehicles, Xi – the Communist Party’s General Secretary – ordered his forces to prepare for the event of war.

“Here I give my orders: the military at all levels should strengthen military training and war preparedness. “The military should continue to implement actual and joint training under combat conditions, and continue to conduct strict training in accordance with the Outline for Military Training and Evaluation. “The military should hold training and competition with mass participation, strengthen tailored and adversarial training, enhance real combat capabilities, and master the skills to fight and win.”

Kim Jong Un says he has a nuclear button on his desk to nuke the U.S. mainland

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un made a disturbing admission during his New Year’s Day speech.

Kim claimed that North Korea had full nuclear capabilities, calling them a “reality.” He added that he had the nuclear strike button on his desk as proof.

Happy New Year.

Historic achievement?
Kim claimed Monday during his annual address that North Korea had achieved the historic achievement of “completing” its nuclear forces.

Directing his remarks specifically at the United States, he said, according to a translation provided by The Associated Press:

The U.S. should know that the button for nuclear weapons is on my table. The entire area of the U.S. mainland is within our nuclear strike range. … The United States can never start a war against me and our country.

Kim added that the regime wasn’t finished producing and stockpiling weaponry.

“We need to mass-produce nuclear warheads and ballistic missiles and accelerate their deployment,” he said.

The North Korean leader spoke in front of several microphones, but no nuclear button could be discerned in the footage.

Watch the report, via the English language version of EuroNews:

Mounting tensions
Tests initiated by the regime have escalated tensions within the region, and have caused concern in South Korea and Japan — both loyal U.S. allies. Fox News reported:

Pyongyang’s frequent missile launches in 2017, along with its sixth nuclear test, have ratcheted up tensions with the United States. The tests were the focus of fiery back-and-forth arguments between North Korea and President Donald Trump, who has called Kim “Little Rocket Man.”

Olive branch
Kim tempered his saber-rattling with an olive branch, purportedly offered to indicate a desire to improve relations with South Korea. This has been a matter of concern lately, given that South Korea is scheduled to host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. He indicated that the games could provide an opportunity for North Korea to send a delegation.

“The Winter Olympic games that will be held soon in the South will be a good opportunity to display the status of the Korean nation and we sincerely wish that the event will be held with good results,” he said.

Given recent defections to the south by North Korean soldiers, it’s doubtful that the regime will ever send a delegation. Its members would also more than likely defect and never return.

“We’ll see”
When asked for comment, President Donald Trump characteristically kept his cards close to his vest.

“We’ll see, we’ll see,” he responded when asked while hosting a New Year’s Eve party at his Palm Beach, Fla. Mar-a-Lago estate.

Kim could learn from Trump. If the dictator is to be believed, we now know precisely where the North Korean nuclear button is located — and that’s where we can aim our own arsenal.

GOG AND MAGOG WATCH: Turkey and Russia sign deal on supply of S-400 missiles

GOG AND MAGOG WATCH: Turkey and Russia sign deal on supply of S-400 missiles
Turkey and Russia have signed an accord for Moscow to supply Ankara with S-400 surface-to-air missiles, CNN Turk and other media reported on Friday, finalizing a deal the two countries have been working on for more than a year.  The S-400 deal, reportedly worth about $2.5 billion, has caused concern in the West because Turkey is a member of NATO and the system cannot be integrated into NATO’s military architecture.
It is the latest in a series of moves by Ankara to boost its defense capabilities as it faces threats from Kurdish and Islamist militants at home and conflicts across its borders in Syria and Iraq. No details of the accord were available and officials were not immediately available to comment. But Sergei Chemezov, head of the Russian state conglomerate Rostec, told the Kommersant daily on Wednesday Russia would supply Turkey with four batteries of S-400s under the deal.
