North Korea preparing for seventh nuclear test days after Kim visit in China

North Korea preparing for seventh nuclear test days after Kim visit in China
Foreign Minister Taro Kono on Saturday suggested there are signs North Korea is preparing to hold another nuclear test even as tensions on the Korean Peninsula ease ahead of a rare summit between the two Koreas. The North appears to be “working hard to get ready for the next nuclear test,” Kono said in a lecture in Kochi, referring to the removal of soil from a tunnel at a site where past tests were conducted. His remarks might be based on satellite imagery provided by the United States.

As for the possibility of summit talks taking place between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Kono expressed caution about reacting hastily to Pyongyang’s charm offensive. “There’s absolutely no need to rush things,” the top diplomat said, adding that North Korea may take advantage of countries accepting invitations to send their leaders to Pyongyang for talks.

Pyongyang getting ready for seventh nuclear test despite thaw: Japan’s Taro Kono
KYODO

MAR 31, 2018

There are signs of a thaw on the divided peninsula, with global attention fixed on two closely related events — an inter-Korean leaders’ summit scheduled for April 27, and an unprecedented U.S.-North Korea summit that is expected to be held by the end of May.

North Korea’s most recent nuclear test, its sixth and most powerful, was conducted in September 2017.

RUMORS OF WAR: Hamas to Swarm Israel’s Border, Sparking Fear of New ‘Passover War’
Mar 29, 2018 | 0  |
RUMORS OF WAR: Hamas to Swarm Israel’s Border, Sparking Fear of New ‘Passover War’
The Palestinian terrorist group Hamas is planning a mass demonstration along Israel’s border on Friday, prompting fears of a new war with the Jewish state ahead of the Passover holiday, according to regional experts and U.S. officials who say they are closely monitoring the situation.  On the heels of a recent military exercise that observers described as “unprecedented,” Hamas leaders have called for some 100,000 Gaza Strip resident to engage in six weeks of mass demonstrations along the Israeli
border as Jewish families gear up for the Passover holiday, which begins Friday evening. Regional experts closely tracking the situation say the demonstrations are meant as cover for a mass military campaign to swarm Israel’s border and stoke violence against the Jewish state. The situation is being closely monitored by Trump administration officials, who outlined concerns that Hamas could use civilian protesters as human shields as cover for attacks on Israeli forces.

RUMORS OF WAR: China sends navy to South Sea; Vows ‘bloody battle’ for world domination…

RUMORS OF WAR: China sends navy to South Sea; Vows ‘bloody battle’ for world domination…
Dozens of Chinese ships are exercising this week with an aircraft carrier in a show of force off Hainan Island in the South China Sea.  Pictures, provided by Planet Labs Inc, show a Chinese carrier group has entered the trade route as part of combat drills.  The Chinese navy claims the movements are part of routine annual exercises, according to Reuters.
The Liaoning carrier group last week traversed the Taiwan Strait, according to the Taiwanese defense ministry. The photos, taken yesterday, show what appear to be at least 40 ships and submarines flanking the carrier Liaoning in what some analysts described as an unusually large display of China’s expanding fleet. They have emerged less than a week after Chinese President Xi Jinping said his country is prepared to fight bloody battles to retain its right as a superpower.

Russia and China eclipse US in hypersonic missiles, Prompting fears

Russia and China eclipse US in hypersonic missiles, Prompting fears
Russia and China are outpacing the United States in the development of super-fast missile technology, Pentagon officials and key lawmakers are warning.  Russia says it successfully tested a so-called hypersonic missile this month, while China tested a similar system last year expected to enter service soon.  “Right now, we’re helpless,” Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said in advocating for more investment in hypersonics, along with missile defense.
Hypersonics are generally defined as missiles that can fly more than five times the speed of sound. Gen. John Hyten, commander of U.S. Strategic Command, last week described a hypersonic as a missile that starts out “like a ballistic missile, but then it depresses the trajectory and then flies more like a cruise missile or an airplane. So it goes up into the low reaches of space, and then turns immediately back down and then levels out and flies at a very high level of speed.”

RED DAWN RISING? Kim Jong Un Makes a Surprise Visit to China

RED DAWN RISING? Kim Jong Un Makes a Surprise Visit to China
Kim Jong Un made a surprise visit to Beijing on his first known trip outside North Korea since taking power in 2011, three people with knowledge of the visit said.  Further details of his trip, including how long Kim would stay and who he would meet, were not immediately available. The people asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the information. Speculation about a possible visit by a high-ranking North Korean official circulated around the Chinese capital Monday, after Japan’s Kyodo News
reported that a special train may have carried Kim through the northeastern border city of Dandong. Nippon TV showed footage of a train arriving Monday in Beijing that looked similar to one used by Kim’s father, Kim Jong Il, to visit the country shortly before his death in 2011. The train believed to be carrying the North Korean delegation was observed Tuesday leaving Beijing, Reuters reported, citing a witness.

RUMORS OF WAR: China and India massing military build-up along border
Mar 25, 2018 | 0  |
RUMORS OF WAR: China and India massing military build-up along border
Nuclear superpowers China and India are bolstering deadly arsenal along their borders sparking fears of WW3, it has been revealed.  Chilling satellite images confirm both countries are pursuing wide-ranging buildups along four critical air bases to prepare for a “military confrontation”. Images show India increasing the deployment of its premier Su-30MKI fighter jets at Bagdogra and Hasimara air bases in West Bengal. The jets will soon be capable of striking land targets with the advanced BrahMos
– the fastest supersonic cruise missile in the world. An “even greater level of activity” was visible of the Chinese air bases near Lhasa and Shigatse, according to US geopolitical intelligence company Stratfor. China has moved it’s KJ-500 airborne early warning and command aircraft, components of the HQ-9 long-range surface-to-air missile system and Soar Dragon unmanned aerial vehicles at Shigatse Peace Airport.

North Korea nuclear reactors show new signs of activity

Mar 16, 2018 | 0  |
North Korea nuclear reactors show new signs of activity
New satellite imagery examined by Western experts suggests North Korea has begun preliminary testing of one of its nuclear reactors at the Yongbyon research facility. The disclosure comes as preparations get underway for the summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in next month — and ahead of Kim’s planned meeting with President Trump in May.
A report by intelligence analysts Jane’s says the imagery indicates the experimental light water reactor, known as an ELWR, could become operational “with little warning” as early as later this year. According to Jane’s, an image from February 25 shows an emission rising from the reactor’s stack that “implies testing of the machinery at the site.” The stack is “intended to vent noncondensable gases from the reactor’s primary circuit,” Jane’s says.

President Trump’s foreign policy strategy may be beginning to bear fruit with an unlikely country, even though many remain cautious — even skeptical. In response to a request to meet with North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un, President Trump signaled his approval by tweeting on Friday that “The deal with North Korea is very much in the making.”

The time and place of the meeting have not been revealed. The meeting could mark a historic turning point in what has been a tense relationship between President Trump and Kim Jong Un.

Deal or No Deal?
The announcement that Kim Jong Un would be willing to meet with President Trump and discuss potentially halting his nuclear weapons program and de-escalating his acts of aggression was delivered on Thursday by South Korea’s National Security Office head Chung Eui-yong.

The statement was met with cautious optimism by Japan, South Korea, and China.

President Trump tweeted his view on the upcoming meeting.

Kim Jong Un talked about denuclearization with the South Korean Representatives, not just a freeze. Also, no missile testing by North Korea during this period of time. Great progress being made but sanctions will remain until an agreement is reached. Meeting being planned!

However, as optimistic as the White House is with Kim’s desire to meet and potentially concede his nuclear program, the Trump administration has stated that it will keep “maximum pressure” on North Korea until a deal with concessions has been made.

PR Stunt or Desperation?
The challenge, of course, is determining whether North Korea is truly willing to meet for a potential deal or whether this is a public relations stunt to enhance Kim Jong Un’s legitimacy on the world stage. Many top officials and experts have welcomed the historic meeting but are also urging caution.

When asked about President Trump being willing to meet with Kim without any concessions, Vice-President Pence stated that “zero concessions” were adequate due to the increased pressure by the United States. Pence elaborated:

Our resolve is undeterred and our policy remains the same: all sanctions remain in place and the maximum pressure campaign will continue until North Korea takes concrete, permanent, and verifiable steps to end their nuclear programme.

Chung praised President Trump for taking the actions he believes brought North Korea to the table. Chung stated, “I explained to President Trump that his leadership and his maximum pressure policy, together with international solidarity, brought us to this juncture.”

However, some have retained a more cautious tone and believe that Kim’s willingness to meet is more sinister than encouraging. Some experts believe that by obtaining a personal meeting with President Trump, Kim will be granted legitimacy on the world stage.

Van Jackson, a former Pentagon official, opined:

This is what his father and his grandfather wanted: to be on the same footing as the world’s greatest power. A meeting with the American president has for decades been considered the prize at the end of a successful denuclearization process, not an incentive to get the process started, and neither Kim’s father nor grandfather made it to that finish line. So I have to grudgingly take my hat off to him because he’s played a very poor hand brilliantly to get there.

Trump would be the second president since Jimmy Carter to meet directly with a North Korean leader.

Whatever the motivations behind Kim’s request to meet the president, extreme caution is warranted. The Trump administration must have all of its research and facts at hand and ready to do whatever is necessary for the denuclearization of North Korea.

If this is a PR stunt, then President Trump must humiliate Kim on the world stage. If it is not, then the Trump administration must continue to apply pressure until verifiable concessions have materialized.

No more empty promises and no more money for nothing in return.

Despite the risks, we are optimistic that President Trump may be able to succeed where so many others have failed.

U.S. launched 8 airstrikes against ISIS in Libya – stayed quiet about 4 of them

Under Trump, the United States has carried out twice as many airstrikes against Islamic State militants in Libya as it had publicly disclosed, according to the New York Times.

Since Trump took office, the Pentagon has targeted IS militants in the North African nation with eight strikes but has only acknowledged four in official press releases.

The Pentagon’s policy is to not disclose certain sensitive information unless specifically asked by reporters.

Pentagon reveals previously undisclosed strikes
The Pentagon acknowledged previously undisclosed airstrikes to The New York Times. Major Karl J. Wiest told the Times Thursday that the number of previously acknowledged strikes under the Trump administration was half the actual number.

The Africa Command had publicly avowed only four attacks since Trump took office on its public information channels. Based in Stuttgart, Germany, the Africa Command oversees military operations in all of Africa except Egypt. The Command has several missions in the region, including a mission to stabilize Libya in the aftermath of its 2011 civil war that ousted Muammar Qaddafi.
Do you agree with Trump's ISIS policy in Libya?
Yes
No
Next

The most recent strike occurred in January. Two others were launched in October, and another in September of 2017.
The newly revealed strikes were first revealed by General Thomas D. Waldhauser in testimony to the House Armed Services Committee. He said there had been eight, not four, strikes.

Keep them guessing
Wiest told the Times that Defense Department’s “responses to questions” policy directs them to give out certain information only if reporters specifically ask for it. Journalists had called Africa Command about some of the airstrikes previously, but not all four, as the Times did.

“We’re not trying to hide anything. Our goal is always to be as transparent as possible while taking into account operational security, force protection and diplomatic sensitivities,” he said.

Its decision not to disclose the information unless asked was motivated by the Pentagon’s need to safeguard security interest, he said. The Defense Department wants to keep enemy insurgents “scared and guessing,” said Rudolph Atallah, a former director of African counterterrorism policy for the Pentagon.

The number of airstrikes in Libya is dwarfed by those in other countries, such as Syria and Iraq, where ISIS has posed a much greater threat. During the same period as the eight strikes in Libya, the U.S. also hit Yemeni insurgents with 130 strikes and militants in Somalia with 40.

While Trump has not made Libya a major concern of his foreign policy, the vacuum left by the fall of Libya’s dictator Moammar Gaddafi continues to breed ISIS and Al Qaeda militants. The U.S. has some forces on the ground to help the shaky government stabilize the region.

The U.S. military presence in Libya is marginal compared to its involvement in other African or Near Eastern countries, but it’s clearly still struggling to clean up the mess Obama made in 2011.

Turkish daily close to Erdogan calls for ‘army of Islam’ to fight Israel

Turkish daily close to Erdogan calls for ‘army of Islam’ to fight Israel
Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (AP/Burhan Ozbilici)
A Turkish newspaper with close ties to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called for the formation of a joint Islamic army to fight Israel.
By: MEMRI/JNS.org
On Dec. 12, 2017, ahead of the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, the Turkish daily Yeni Şafak, which is close to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his ruling AKP party, published an article titled “A Call for Urgent Action,” which also appeared on the paper’s website under the title “What If an Army of Islam Was Formed Against Israel?”

The article called on the 57 member states of the OIC to form a joint “Army of Islam” to besiege and attack the state of Israel. It notes that such a joint army will greatly exceed the Israeli army in manpower, equipment and budget, and presents statistics to prove this.

It also advocates establishing joint bases for the army’s ground, air and naval forces that will arrive from all over the Muslim world to besiege Israel, while noting that Pakistan, as the only nuclear country, has “a special status” among the OIC countries. An interactive map provides information on military forces stationed in various locations and the role they can play in the potential joint Muslim attack on Israel.

Show me the money
The main points of the article are taken from the website of the Turkish SADAT International Defense and Consulting Company, which provides consultancy on defense and warfare, both conventional and unconventional, and on military organization, training and gear.

Turkish newspaper’s illustration of “Army of Islam” attacking Israel. (MEMRI)

The company has an agenda of promoting pan-Islamic military cooperation. According to its mission statement, it seeks “to establish defense collaboration and defense industry cooperation among Islamic countries, to help the Islamic world take its rightful place among the superpowers by providing… strategic consultancy and training services to the militaries and homeland security forces of Islamic countries.”

According to Israeli security sources, the SADAT company is involved in aiding Hamas, and seeks to assist – with funds and military gear – the creation of a “Palestine Army” to fight Israel.
SADAT founder is Erdoğan senior advisor
The SADAT company was founded by Erdoğan’s senior advisor on military affairs, retired general Adnan Tanrıverdi, and is chaired by his son, Melih Tanrıverdi. Adnan Tanrıverdi (b. 1944) served in the Turkish army’s Artillery Corps and headed the Home Front Command in northern Cyprus. He is an expert on assymetric warfare, and was dismissed from the Turkish military in 1996 for his Islamists leanings. A former Turkish army officer, Ahmet Yavuz, described him as “an enemy of Atatürk” and stated that his dismissal from the army was not surprising.

The Yeni Şafak article is based on a PDF booklet featuring a number of articles by Tanrıverdi, as well as other materials, that appeared on the homepage of SADAT’s website and has since been removed. Some of the articles are virulently anti-Israel and promote the goal of arming the Palestinians and forming an Army of Islam to eliminate Israel.

Recently, Israel became aware of Tanrıverdi’s activities after it arrested a Turkish academic, Cemil Tekeli, on suspicion of aiding Hamas terrorists in Turkey. According to the Israeli paper Makor Rishon, Tekeli, who has since been deported to Turkey, is a close associate of Adnan Tanrıverdi.

‘What If An Army Of Islam Was Formed Against Israel?’
The following are excerpts from the Yeni Şafak article:

“If the OIC member states unite and form a joint military force, it will be the largest army in the world. These countries’ total population is 1,674,526,931. The number of soldiers in active service in these countries is at least 5,206,100. Their [overall] military defense budget, of $174,728,420, is also worthy of emphasis.

“As for Israel, it is significantly inferior. The population of this country, which attempted to occupy Jerusalem while surrounded by Muslim states, is 8,049,314. Note that the population of Istanbul alone exceeds 14 million. The number of soldiers in active service in the [Israeli] occupation forces is 160,000, and [Israel’s] defense budget is approximately $15,600,000,000.

“Defense Budget: OIC: $174,728,420,000; Israel: $15,600,000,000. Population: OIC: 1,674,526,931; Israel: 8,049,314. Soldiers: OIC: 5,206,100; Israel: 160,000″

“Among the decisions that can be taken at the OIC [summit] is to form a ‘Jerusalem Task Group.’ In this framework, military steps are likely to be taken. The [Muslim] armies, ranging from Africa to Asia, surpass the Israeli [army in might]. So if an Islamic army is formed, Israel will be under a siege.

“In a possible military operation, the first step is expected to involve 250,000 soldiers, and the establishment of joint land, air and naval bases for use in the short term. 500 tanks and armored vehicles, 100 war planes, 500 attack helicopters and 50 warships and submarines can be mobilized.”

“The war planes that will be dispatched to the region from greater distances will be stationed in airbases [closer to Israel]. Israel will most likely to be besieged by the naval fleets that will be sent to the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.

“The military capability of the OIC member states is considerable. These armies have the necessary equipment to carry out a military operation on land, sea and air.

“Turkey will serve as an important headquarters during the operation, due to its land, air and naval infrastructures. The Turkish army, which carried out ‘Operation Euphrates Shield’ [in Syria in 2017] with great success, is now ranked the world’s seventh strongest army, and the second largest army among the NATO powers. Turkey has approximately 4,000 tanks and 1,000 war planes and other aircraft. Its navy made significant progress during the last years, with 194 vessels at its disposal.

“As the only country which possesses nuclear weapons, Pakistan has an important status among the 57 Muslim [OIC] countries… Those who believe that they are the owners of Jerusalem today will not find a single tree to hide behind tomorrow.

“In a statement, Malaysian Defense Minister [Hishammuddin] Hussein described Trump’s recognition [of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital] as a blow to Muslims, and added: ‘The Malaysian armed forces are ready to fulfill their duty regarding Jerusalem.’

“In recent years, Turkey has launched a series of collaborations with [OIC] member states. The joint military drill with our Iraqi neighbors conveyed a clear message to the terrorists, and Turkey is [also] engaging in new collaborations with Qatar, Somalia and other Gulf and African countries. In this context it should be underlined that Turkey is taking steps to realize the model of the ‘Army of Islam,’ forging alliances with many Muslim countries to increase its military mobility.”

US deploys missiles just miles from Russia border

US deploys missiles just miles from Russia border
US President Donald Trump deployed the defensive devices just 60 miles away from the border. Head of Russia’s defense committee – Vladimir Shamanov – said the country was set to do the same in response. He said: “This situation is, of course, under control, and mirror measures have been undertaken or would be undertaken without delay.” Shamanov added: “The threats are high. Given the
short flight-in time, they [the US] make us address certain tasks, some of which have been settled, but some are still due. “Of course, it is a difference when they [anti-missiles] were a thousand kilometers away, and it is different when they are hundreds of kilometres away.” At the weekend it emerged the US had deployed more than 400 anti-missiles targeted on Russia.

How Amos’ Prophecies Are Springing to Life in Israel Right Now
Mar 6, 2018 | 0  |
How Amos’ Prophecies Are Springing to Life in Israel Right Now
Food, a basic need, holds the essence of who we are as people. Food and drink bring us together, define cultures, engages and inspire us across all spectrums of life. But food indeed goes far beyond our basic needs. It connects us to people, places, experiences and memories and has the power to elevate a mere morsel to a time-honored traditional family dish. Food and wine have always played an important role in the history of mankind; religious elements, celebrations and are even enjoyed for health benefits.
But have you ever thought about the spirituality of food and wine and how they relate to a life of biblical faith? In Christianity, this may be a new thought. In Judaism, there would be no Jewish faith without food and wine, as it plays a central role in the weekly and annual biblical celebrations. Food and wine are spiritual elements first rooted deep in the soil of Israel. From the time of Abraham, food and wine have played an integral role in covenants and Temple offerings. The Bible prophesies about food and wine with the foretaste of what’s to come from Isa. 25:6: “The Lord of hosts will prepare a lavish banquet for all peoples on the mountain; A banquet of aged wine, choice pieces with marrow, and refined, aged wine.”

RUMORS OF WAR: China Warns Of Potential War With US Over Taiwan

RUMORS OF WAR: China Warns Of Potential War With US Over Taiwan
It’s no secret that for Beijing, the most sensitive issue within Sino-American relations is that of Taiwan, the semi-autonomous island territory that China considers to be a breakaway province. Now, a political move made by the U.S. on Taiwan has Beijing warning of the possibility of military action.  Back in January, the House of Representatives unanimously passed the Taiwan Travel Act, a bill aiming to
significantly strengthen ties between U.S. officials and their Taiwanese counterparts. The bill reached the Senate floor on Wednesday, where it also passed without opposition. Now, all that’s required for the legislation to become law is Donald Trump’s signature. Taiwan welcomed the bill’s passage. Speaking to reporters in the capital of Taipei, Premier William Lai said the U.S. is a “solid ally” of Taiwan and that the two sides’ ties can now become even stronger.

North Korea snubs US demands to de-nuclearise

North Korea snubs US demands to de-nuclearise
Fears the planet is on the brink of WW3 were triggered today after North Korea snubbed talks with the US. North Korea locked horns wth the US after President Donald Trump demanded the hermit state denuclearise before negotiations begin. But the communist nation rejected his precondition, stepping up fears of World War 3. The spokesman for the foreign ministry of North Korea warned: “In decades-long
history of the DPRK-US [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea] talks, there had been no case at all where we sat with the US on any precondition and this will be the case in future too. “The US attitude shown after we clarified our intention for DPRK-US dialogue compels us to only think that the US is not interred in resuming DPRK-US dialogue.”

China & Russia Military Build-Up Challenges US Dominance

China & Russia Military Build-Up Challenges US Dominance
(By PNW) The world is now in a second cold war among three major world powers and the massive arms race is gearing up on all sides. Both China and Russia are preparing to challenge US air superiority as well as naval dominance in the Pacific. They are making good progress in finding ways to counter US nuclear capabilities, confront the US space advantage and wage cyber warfare on an unprecedented scale. In some areas, the US’s role as the hegemonic military power of the twentieth century is being quickly overtaken while in other respects, it has already been surpassed.  As an example, China leads the world
in the size of its conventional missile arsenal that numbers in the tens of thousands and is currently developing hypersonic projectiles able to blow past any existing air defense, a technology Russia, too, now has in the Zircon missile. Here is a look at how China and Russia are presenting a real challenge to US military and diplomatic dominance. Russia’s economy has suffered setbacks in recent years, to no small degree due to sanctions imposed in response to its actions in Georgia and Ukraine. This has acted as a drag on the massive budget increases and modernization efforts of the early 2000s, but while it has reduced the pace of its spending increase,

North Korea blasts Donald Trump, threatens war with U.S.
March 1, 2018

North Korea blasts Donald Trump, threatens war with U.S.

Now that the Winter Olympic Games are over, North Korea has once again resorted to its customary saber-rattling toward the United States and President Donald Trump.

In deference to North Korea’s decision to participate in the Games, the United States agreed to suspend their annual Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military exercises with South Korea, while the hermit kingdom’s dictator, Kim Jong Un, appeared friendly. But within two days of the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games closing ceremony, North Korea was back at it, hurling insults and threats at the United States.

North Korea’s excuse was the resumption of the U.S.-South Korean military exercises.

Winter games over, war games resume
“The resumption of joint military exercises is a vicious challenge to the entire Korean nation hoping for durable peace on the Korean peninsula,” reported North Korean newspaper Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, an essentially government-run publication.

“The DPRK [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea] is making all possible efforts for the improvement of the North-South relations,” the publication continued. “[The military exercises], therefore, can never be tolerated.”

There’s only one problem with this feigned outrage: North Korea has known all along that the annual military exercises would resume after the games. It was announced on CNN over a month ago.

A different motive
But there’s something else at play here. North Korea wants to see all ties between its southern neighbor and the west — including especially the United States — come to an end. Express reported:

[Kim Jong Un] has been critical of the close relationship shared between the U.S. and South Korea. They have argued America’s interference with the South is damaging potential routes to improve relations between the two Koreas in the future.

Rodong Sinmun appeared to consider any joint U.S.-South Korean relationship an impediment to North and South Korean relations in its recent article.

“The peaceful environment on the Korean peninsula is a prerequisite to the improvement of the North-South ties,” the propaganda paper reported. It continued:

However, the U.S. and its followers are trying hard to resume the exercises and thus quench the spirit for the improvement of the north-south ties and strain the military stand-off and tension to the maximum and, furthermore, stifle the DPRK by force at any cost.

U.S. continues the pressure
During the Olympic Games, South Korean President Moon Jae-in was invited to talk directly with Kim Jong Un, but Moon made it clear that any talks would have to include the United States. The U.S., in turn, agreed to hold face-to-face discussions, but also emphasized that they would have to cover denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

The White House also recently slapped the regime with a new set of sanctions.

“We will see if Pyongyang’s message today, that it is willing to hold talks, represents the first steps along the path to denuclearization,” a White House statement read. “In the meantime, the United States and the world must continue to make clear that North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs are a dead end.”

But according to Express, “the new sanctions have sparked outrage in Pyongyang.”

“If the U.S. resumes the joint military exercises, we will resolutely counter them,” Rodong Sinmun reported on Monday.

It seems that the North Korean regime still isn’t fully aware of who they’re messing with. We may have taken home numerous Olympic medals, but President Donald Trump and the U.S. military don’t play any games when it comes to the safety of Americans.

The images reportedly show two warehouses storing missiles capable of hitting all of Israel. According to the report, members of the Iran Revolutionary Guard's special operations Quds Force are operating the base.

Last week, the New York Times reported the locations of dozens of bases in Syria operated by Iranian forces, including a map showing the location of a T4 airbase near Tadmor. Also in the map was the airport of Damascus, which Israel has reportedly attacked on multiple occasions.

>> Thirteen Israeli border points raising tensions with Lebanon <<

Iranian officials openly claim that they are working to build an axis of resistance to Israel and the U.S. in the region. Iranian strategy is based on building ties with local forces who share the same goals.

Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman responded to the report in an interview with Wednesday morning saying, "There's nothing new under the sun, and there is no need to treat all information in the media as absolute. We are listening and following the events. We will also act in the international arena to achieve everything possible."

Iranian presence in Syria
At the Munich Security Conference last week, Netanyahu warned that Israel would act against Iran if needed. "We will act if necessary not just against Iran's proxies but against Iran itself," he said, holding up a piece of an Iranian drone Israel shot down after it infiltrated its territory.

"Iran continues to try to cross those red lines," said the prime minister. "Last week its brazenness reached new heights, literally new heights. Israel will not allow the Iranian regime to put a noose of terror around our neck." Netanyahu asked Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who was sitting in the crowd: "Do you recognize it? You should, it’s yours. Don’t test us."

Netanyahu added: "This action is intended to fight Iranian aggression on the ground toward the upcoming decision in Washington on the Iran deal. I will be meeting President Trump soon and this will be our first topic of discussion, this bad agreement that allows Iran to run on the highway towards nuclear weapons. The current situation needs to be changed with or without a change in the agreement."

Two weeks ago, an Iranian drone that crossed into Israeli airspace was intercepted by the Israel Air Force, sparking a flare-up between Israel and Syria, with an Israeli F-16 shot down and an extensive Israeli strike against Iranian and Syrian targets in Syria.

In December, Syrian state television reported that Israeli warplanes struck a military base near Damascus. According to the pro-Assad news outlets, the target of the attack was an Iranian military base and the Israeli aircraft had been launched from Lebanese airspace. The reports also said that Israeli surface-to-surface missiles had been intercepted by Syrian air defenses.

The report did not divulge further details as to the attack's target or of casualties sustained. Forces connected to the Syrian military told Reuters that the Israeli Air Force fired six missiles that caused a large fire in the area.

WAR DRUMS: Israel and Iran on collision course over Syria…
Feb 22, 2018 | 0  |
WAR DRUMS: Israel and Iran on collision course over Syria…
Iran and Israel are on a collision course over Tehran’s expanding footprint in Syria, raising the odds of a direct clash between the region’s two military heavyweights that could quickly draw in other combatants. With Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement, Iran’s most potent military ally, emboldened by their success in upholding Syrian President Bashar Assad, Israel is growing more and more wary of being attacked by missiles not just from southern Lebanon but also from inside Syria.
Israel has been sporadically bombing Hezbollah positions in Syria for the past three years. But the situation reached new heights this month when what Israel said was an Iranian armed stealth drone was intercepted and downed over Israel and an Israeli F-16 fighter jet was in turn shot down by anti-aircraft fire from inside Syria during a retaliatory airstrike. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif traded belligerent taunts at a major security conference in Munich this week,

RUMORS OF WAR: Lebanon threatens all out war with Israel ‘at any cost’ in shock warning
Feb 20, 2018 | 1  |
RUMORS OF WAR: Lebanon threatens all out war with Israel ‘at any cost’ in shock warning
A blunt threat was issued to Israel by the head of the Lebanese army when he vowed to do whatever it takes fight aggression from Tel Aviv at a conference on increasing stability in the Middle East. General Joseph Aoun’s furious remarks were made in a speech at the “Support for Stability and Development in the Arab States and the Middle East” regional conference. Lebanon and Israel have seen relations strain
in recent years over Tel Aviv’s plans to build a border wall and Beirut’s decision to explore for offshore energy near disputed waters. General Aoun said: “I reiterate today our categorical rejection of the Israeli enemy’s sovereignty of Lebanon and its sacred right to invest all its economic resources. “And the army will not spare any method available to confront any Israeli aggression, whatever that costs.”

Trump tells Putin now time for peace between Israelis and Palestinians
Feb 13, 2018 | 0  |
Trump tells Putin now time for peace between Israelis and Palestinians
U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday told his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, that “now is the time” to work toward an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement. The two leaders spoke on the phone shortly before Putin met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. According to statements released by both the White House and the Kremlin, the Israeli-Palestinian peace process was an important part of the conversation between the two leaders.
In the statement, the White House said that after Trump offered his condolences to Putin for the fatal plane crash that took place in Moscow over the weekend, the Russian President noted his meeting with Abbas later in the day, “and President Trump said that now is the time to work toward an enduring peace agreement.” During their meeting, Abbas told Putin he could no longer accept the role of the United States as a mediator in talks with Israel because of Washington’s behaviour, the Interfax news agency reported.

DEVELOPING: Israel appears to be preparing for major war, Gives strong warning to Iran
Israel has boosted its air defense in the North following a significant confrontation between the Jewish State, Syria and Iran which led to the loss of an F-16 fighter jet.  While the army refused to comment on the reports, witnesses reported seeing a convoy of missile-defense batteries heading north near the Israeli-Arab city of Baka al-Gharbiya. Other witnesses posted photos of several trucks carrying the batteries on central highways in northern Israel.
Israel’s air defenses currently include the Iron Dome, designed to shoot down short-range rockets; the Arrow system, which intercepts ballistic missiles outside of the Earth’s atmosphere and the David’s Sling missile-defense system, which is designed to intercept tactical ballistic missiles, medium- to long-range rockets and cruise missiles fired from ranges of between 40 km. to 300 km. Israel also has Patriot missile batteries stationed in the North and has used them to intercept drones infiltrating into Israeli airspace from Syria.

MAKES STRONG THREAT TO IRAN: Israel issued stark warnings on Sunday over Iran’s presence in neighboring Syria after a confrontation threatened to open a new and unpredictable period in the country’s seven-year civil war. Israel carried out major air raids in Syria on Saturday, including against what it described as Iranian targets — the first time it had publicly acknowledged doing so since the war began. The raids came after an Israeli F16 fighter was shot down by Syrian air defences. The pilots survived, but it was Israel’s first loss of a warplane in battle since 1982. “We inflicted on Saturday a heavy blow to Iranian and Syrian forces,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the start of Sunday’s cabinet meeting.

RUMORS OF WAR: Damascus warns Israel of ‘more surprises’ in Syria

RUMORS OF WAR: Damascus warns Israel of ‘more surprises’ in Syria
Israel will face “more surprises” should it again attack Syrian territory, Damascus said on Tuesday, after Syria’s air defenses shot down an advanced Israeli warplane during the fiercest flare-up between the old foes in 36 years.  The F-16 jet was hit over northern Israel on Saturday as it returned from a raid on a Syrian position blamed for launching an Iranian-made drone across the border. Iran is supporting President Bashar al-Assad in Syria’s near seven-year civil war.
“Have full confidence the aggressor will be greatly surprised, because it thought this war – this war of attrition Syria has been exposed to for years – had made it incapable of confronting attacks,” Assistant Foreign Minister Ayman Sussan said. “God willing, they will see more surprises whenever they try to attack Syria,” Sussan said during a Damascus news conference. Israel asked the United Nations Security Council on Saturday to condemn Iran after an Iranian drone was shot down over Israeli territory earlier in the day. The Israeli ambassador to the UN called on the panel to "put an end to Iranian provocations."

The Israeli military says it shot down an Iranian drone that infiltrated the country and struck Iranian targets in Syria that launched it. Syrian air-defense missiles hit an Israeli F-16 fighter jet, prompting the pilots to eject. Following the downing of the jet, Israel carried out what an Air Force general said was the "largest and most significant" strike in Syria since 1982.

"This is not the first time we warn you of Iran's dangerous and destabilizing actions in the region," ambassador Danny Danon wrote in the letter. "This incident proves that each and every one of those warnings turned out to be true. Israel will defend its civilians and will not tolerate any violation of its sovereignty."

In the letter, Dannon called on the Security Council to condemn Iran. "The Security Council must condemn this dangerous move and put an end to Iranian provocation." Dannon noted Iran was in violation of Security Council resolutions.

Hezbollah earlier said that the downing of an Israeli F-16 marks the "start of a new strategic phase."

"Today's developments mean the old equations have categorically ended," the group said in an official statement.

Russia, a member of the Security Councill, expressed serious concerns about the latest developments in Syria and called on the sides to exercise restraint and avoid an escalation of the situation.

"We urge all sides to exercise restraint and to avoid any actions that could lead to an even greater complication of the situation," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. "It is necessary to unconditionally respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and other countries in the region."

Iran, meanwhile, issued its first official response to the events, with its Foreign Ministry rejecting as "ridiculous" reports that Israel had intercepted an Iranian drone launched from Syria.

Hezbollah said that an Israeli F-16 was shot down on Saturday marks the "start of a new strategic phase," in an official statement released on Saturday.

The comments come after multiple Israeli strikes on Syrian and Iranian targets in Syria, following a downing of an Iranian drone which entered Israeli airspace, and a downing of an Israeli F-16 by Syrian air defenses.

Hezbollah condemned Israeli aggression, stating that exploitation of Syrian airspace will be limited. "Today's developments mean the old equations have categorically ended," said the statement.

Moscow also expressed serious concerns about the latest developments in Syria and called on the sides to exercise restraint and avoid an escalation of the situation, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

"We urge all sides to exercise restraint and to avoid any actions that could lead to an even greater complication of the situation," the ministry said in a statement. "It is necessary to unconditionally respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and other countries in the region."

"Reports of downing an Iranian drone flying over Israel and also Iran's involvement in attacking an Israeli jet are so ridiculous ... Iran only provides military advice to Syria," TV quoted Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi as saying.

Earlier on Saturday, the pro-Assad military alliance, which includes Iran and Hezbollah, warned Israel that any new act of what it called "terrorism" will be met with a "severe and serious response."

>> Iranian drone, downed Israeli fighter jet: What we know about latest Israel-Syria escalation

The statement said that Israel claims the drone entered Israeli airspace are "a lie," adding that the drones were being used to combat the Islamic State.

A senior official was quoted in the statement saying he does not believe matters will develop into a regional war.

Meanwhile, the deputy head of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards Corps declined to comment on the drone incident, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

"We cannot confirm this report on the drone because Israelis are liars ... if Syrians confirm it, Iran will confirm it as well," Brigadier General Hossein Salami said, according to Tasnim.

On Saturday, Israel targeted 12 sites around Damascus after an Israeli F-16 was downed. According to the Israeli army, Syrian anti-aircraft missiles targeted the jet after Israel responded to the infiltration of an Iranian drone with a strike in Syria.

The two F-16 pilots ejected as the plane went down in northern Israel. The pilots were taken to the hospital in stable condition. One of the pilots is in serious condition. Following the downing of the jet Israel responded with a fresh "large-scale strike" in Syria.
An Israeli military spokesman said that Syria and Iran are "playing with fire" and will pay a heavy price. The Prime Minister's Office has instructed cabinet ministers not to speak publicly about the events on the northern border.

China deploys 300,000 soldiers to North Korea’s doorstep

China deploys 300,000 soldiers to North Korea’s doorstep
Dan / CCL
The People’s Republic of China is reportedly moving 300,000 troops to its border with North Korea, in anticipation of hostilities between the rogue regime and the United States.
Given the 880 mile length of the border, this would amount to a concentration of one soldier for every 15.5 feet.
Missile defense system strengthened
South Korea’s Chosun Ilbo was the first news outlet to announce the buildup. It reported:
China is preparing for a potential war on the Korean Peninsula by reinforcing missile defenses near the border with North Korea, Radio Free Asia reported Friday.
RFA quoted a North Korean source in China as saying the Chinese military late last year deployed another missile defense battery at an armored division in Helong, west of Longjing in the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture.
Military units in Yanbian were relocated from Heilongjiang Province, thus adding 300,000 troops along the border, the source added.
The report went on to say that missile defense batteries will be deployed close to several North Korean reservoirs to augment the troop movement.

Russia builds four new air bases in Syria, deploys another 6,000 troops
Contrary to Moscow’s promises, the Russian military is not pulling out of Syria, but adding four more air bases (one shared with Iran) and 6,000 more troops. On Dec. 11, 2017, Russian President Vladimir Putin, followed by Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, announced that the Russian military was to withdraw from Syria to home bases.
DEBKAfile’s military and intelligence sources report that the reverse happened. A small number of units were indeed sent home, but they were sooner replaced, and instead of two bases – the air facility at Hmeimim and the naval installation at Tartus – four more Syrian air bases are being reconstructed and adapted for the use of the Russian air force. The attached map illustrates their locations:

A small number of units were indeed sent home, but they were sooner replaced, and instead of two bases – the air facility at Hmeimim and the naval installation at Tartus – four more Syrian air bases are being reconstructed and adapted for the use of the Russian air force.
The attached map illustrates their locations:

The Tiyas Military Airbase (also known as T-4) in the Homs Governorate west of Palmyra, is the largest in Syria. The Russians are massively converting it into their main center of aerial operations in central Syria. Tyas will also provide backup as needed for Khmeimim, if drone, missile and mortar attacks recur.
Palmyra (or Tadmor) Airport provides air support for operations in eastern Syria including the Deir ez-Zour province. Moscow has agreed to share it with Iran. The Revolutionary Guards Al Qods chief Gen. Qassem Soleimani is planning to make Palmyra the main assembly center for the transfer of pro-Iranian Iraqi Shiite militias from southern Iraq to Syria.
From Hama Military Airport west of Hama, the Russians will exercise control from the air of central Syria and the northern and central highways to Damascus. Still more importantly, this airport’s location places it just 125km as the crow flies (173km by road) from Russia’s Tartus naval base on the Mediterranean coast.
Shayrat, at Homs (which became notorious as the target of a massive US Tomahawk attack last year) is the main landing site for air transports which bring the Russian and Iranian forces troop reinforcements, weapons and spare parts.
More than 6,000 additional Russian military personnel are assigned to the four renovated bases in Syria – most of them air force and special operations personnel. Some have arrived.
The attached map shows how the new layer of Russian bases in western, central and eastern Syria faces the chain of military locations the Americans have decided to keep in northern Syria. The two powers are evidently in a race for bases in Syria. In strategic terms, the two powers are dividing a large swath of Syria between them as regions of influence, leaving any future ruler in Damascus with just about half of Syrian territory under government control.

U.S. military warns China and Russia will soon be able to shoot down satellites

U.S. military warns China and Russia will soon be able to shoot down satellites

In just two years, two of America’s greatest international rivals will develop the capacity to strike and destroy low-orbiting satellites with sophisticated anti-satellite weaponry, according to the Pentagon’s Joint Staff.

The Joint Staff intelligence directorate warned that “China and Russia will be capable of severely disrupting or destroying U.S. satellites in low-earth orbit” by 2020, representing a new threat for which Americans must prepare, officials familiar with the Joint Staff report told The Washington Free Beacon.

Satellite fight
Space warfare is not an entirely new frontier for human conflict; both the United States and Soviet Union developed systems to attack satellites from space during the Cold War. Space expert Michael J. Listner, founder of Space Law & Policy Solutions, explained these early developments:

The United States ASAT program, Program 437, took the form of the ASM-135 missile, or the “flying tomato can” and was intended by the Reagan administration to be a deterrent to the Soviet co-orbital system.

Since then, advancement has been streamlined. Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said last year that Russia possesses a “diverse suite of capabilities to affect satellites in all orbital regimes.”

In his testimony before Congress last May, he warned:

We assess that Russia and China perceive a need to offset any U.S. military advantage derived from military, civil, or commercial space systems and are increasingly considering attacks against satellite systems as part of their future warfare doctrine. Both will continue to pursue a full range of anti-satellite weapons as a means to reduce U.S. military effectiveness.

Likewise, China has already proven their potential for this pioneering means of warfare.

“Ten years after China intercepted one of its own satellites in low-earth orbit, its ground-launched ASAT [anti-sattelite] missiles might be nearing operational service within the PLA,” Coats explained.

“Fragile and vulnerable”
According to a report by the National Institute for Public Policy, as of 2016, there were nearly 800 satellites in low earth orbit, owned and operated by 43 nations. Thirty-seven of these will soon be vulnerable to Chinese and Russian attacks due to their highly elliptical patterns of orbit.

Former Pentagon missile expert Steve Lambakis, who authored the policy study, described the challenge ahead for American lawmakers:

U.S. space systems are among the most fragile and vulnerable assets operated by the U.S. military.

“This vulnerable communications and data collection, processing, and distribution infrastructure is worth billions of dollars and is vital to nearly every activity of the United States and, increasingly, the armed forces of U.S. allies,” he stated.

Judgement day scenario
In a hypothetical hour-by-hour account detailing the loss of infrastructure which would inevitably accompany a massive attack on America’s space technology, BBC contributor Richard Hollingham notes that civilians would at first consider an attack a minor annoyance as satellite cable and international broadcasts would be lost.

Soon, however, unmanned aerial reconnaissance drones would lose contact with their operators, while military vessels at sea and in the air would be cut off from command and control. The president would have a swiftly escalating disaster on his hands and, as Hollingham conjectures, pilots would lose contact with traffic control towers and fishermen and other workers people working in remote locations would find themselves cut off from society without the use of sat-phones.

Understanding the true breadth of this cataclysmic scenario requires an understanding of the importance of Global Positioning Systems. Hollingham explains how modern society is held together by these “highly accurate atomic clocks in space:”

Our infrastructure is held together by time – from time stamps on complex financial transactions to the protocols that hold the internet together. When the packets of data passing between computers get out of sync, the system starts to break down. Without accurate time, every network controlled by computers is at risk. Which means almost everything.

When the GPS signals stopped, back-up systems (employing accurate clocks on the ground) kicked in. But, within a few hours, time had started to slip. A fraction of a second in Europe, compared to the US; a tiny difference between India and Australia. The cloud began to fail, web searches became slower, the internet started to grind to a halt. The first power cuts came later in the evening, as transmission networks struggled to balance demand. At computerized water treatment works, engineers switched to manual back-up systems. In major cities, traffic lights and railway signals defaulted to red, bringing transport to a standstill. Mobile phone services, already patchy, finally failed in the late afternoon.

Total, unmitigated disaster would follow, as the wellspring of contemporary society would dry up and leave North America a cold, dark continent.

While this may seem like a doomsday scenario devoid of reality, Americans should remember that there are two world powers working tirelessly to develop the anti-satellite technology needed to return the U.S. to the Dark Ages.

It’s possible — and we need to be prepared.

Russian jet flies within 5 feet of US Navy plane…
A Russian Su-27 jet performed an unsafe intercept of a US Navy surveillance plane while it was flying in international airspace over the Black Sea Monday, three defense officials told CNN. The American pilots reported that the Russian jet came within 5 feet of the US plane, according to two of the officials.
The Russian jet’s action forced the US Navy aircraft to end its mission prematurely, one of the officials said.
US Naval Forces Europe, which oversees US operations in the region, later confirmed the incident in a statement. “This interaction was determined to be unsafe due to the SU-27 closing to within five feet and crossing directly through the EP-3’s flight path, causing the EP-3 to fly through the SU-27’s jet wash,” Capt. Pamela Kunze, a spokesperson for US Naval Forces Europe told CNN.

Pentagon Warns Of China and Russia Soon Capable of Destroying U.S. Satellites
China and Russia are developing anti-satellite missiles and other weapons and will soon be capable of damaging or destroying all U.S. satellites in low-earth orbit, according to the Pentagon’s Joint Staff. The Joint Staff intelligence directorate, known as J-2, issued the warning in a recent report on the growing threat of anti-satellite (ASAT) weapons from those states, according to officials familiar with the assessment.
The report concludes that “China and Russia will be capable of severely disrupting or destroying U.S. satellites in low-earth orbit” in the next several years, said the officials. The capability to attack low-earth orbit satellites could be in place by 2020, the officials said. A Joint Staff spokesman declined to comment, citing a policy of not discussing internal reports. The J-2 report echoes a similar but less specific warning from Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats in May.

RUMORS OF WAR: Is There A War Brewing Between Israel And Lebanon?
Jan 30, 2018 | 0 |
RUMORS OF WAR: Is There A War Brewing Between Israel And Lebanon?
Lebanon was warned recently by Israeli spokesperson and Israel Defense Force Brig. Gen. Ronen Manelis that war could break out between the two countries if Iran continues its development of precision missiles within Lebanon. Manelis blames the Lebanese government and the “blind eye” of some in the international community who have stood by and watched as Hezbollah, the political and
militant arm of the Shiite Islamist political party based in Lebanon, has built an arsenal within the country. “Lebanon has become – both by its own actions and omissions and by a blind eye from many members of the international community – one large missile factory,” Manelis wrote. He went on to add that Iran is no longer just funding Hezbollah in Iran’s quest to destroy Israel but rather Iran is “now here.”

Report: Iran has fired nearly two dozen nuclear-capable missiles since 2015
January 28, 2018

Report: Iran has fired nearly two dozen nuclear-capable missiles since 2015
Borna_Mirahmadian / CCL
The ineffectiveness of the Iran Deal, the chief foreign policy accomplishment of the Barack Obama administration, continues to show.

According to Fox News, a new report is soon to be released showing that since the deal was made in 2015, Iran has fired 23 missiles — many of which were nuclear-capable.

This provides support for President Trump and those who believe that the deal, which limited Iran’s nuclear capabilities in exchange for decreased sanctions on the Middle Eastern nation, did far too little.

The Report
The report is the result of a study done by the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), a non-profit, non-partisan, national security and foreign policy think tank.

Behnam Ben Taleblue, author of the report and FDD senior Iran analyst, wrote that the study “identified as many as 23 ballistic missile launches by Iran since the conclusion of the July 2015 nuclear deal.” Sixteen of the missiles were nuclear-capable, according to Fox News, who was given access to the report.

The report goes on to suggest that the Trump administration’s threat — to remove the U.S. from the Iran deal by May if changes are not made — has been far more effective than the actual deal:

Out of all the ballistic missiles Iran fired in 2017, only four or five missiles can be considered nuclear-capable. In 2016, Iran fired 10 to 11 missiles than can be considered nuclear-capable. It is highly likely that the administration’s threat intimidated Tehran, altering its flight-testing calculus.

The report further states that the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps complained of testing delays due to fear of a possible U.S. retaliation.

Iran Deal
The Iran Deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), is an agreement between the U.S., U.K., Russia, France, China, Germany, and Iran “to ensure that Iran’s nuclear program will be exclusively peaceful.” It was adopted in October 2015 and implemented in January 2016.

The nations who are a part of JCPOA agreed that the U.S. and several Eurasian countries would lift harsh economic sanctions on Iran in exchange for limitations to its nuclear program. The limitations were largely aimed at eliminating and reducing those aspects of Iran’s nuclear program that could lead to the production of weapons.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) plays the role of supervising Iran’s compliance.

The deal was considered the crowning foreign policy achievement of former President Obama, and it continues to have many supporters, who will be quick to note that the FDD report does not seem to indicate that Iran has violated the deal in any way. After all, the goal was to restrict Iran’s nuclear program, not its general production of missiles.

President Trump leading the critics
Critics of the deal, on the other hand, will retort that this is exactly the point. The most trenchant critic has been none other than President Trump, who has criticized the deal at every possible turn. He said earlier this month:

I have been very clear about my opinion of that deal. It gave Iran far too much in exchange for far too little. The enormous financial windfall the Iranian regime received because of the deal—access to more than $100 billion, including $1.8 billion in cash—has not been used to better the lives of the Iranian people. Instead, it has served as a slush fund for weapons, terror, and oppression, and to further line the pockets of corrupt regime leaders. The Iranian people know this, which is one reason why so many have taken to the streets to express their outrage[.]

In this same statement, Trump offered the parties to the deal the following ultimatum: agree to my provisions, or American will pull out.

He said:

First, it must demand that Iran allow immediate inspections at all sites requested by international inspectors. Second, it must ensure that Iran never even comes close to possessing a nuclear weapon. Third, unlike the nuclear deal, these provisions must have no expiration date. My policy is to deny Iran all paths to a nuclear weapon—not just for ten years, but forever. Fourth, the legislation must explicitly state in United States law—for the first time—that long-range missile and nuclear weapons programs are inseparable, and that Iran’s development and testing of missiles should be subject to severe sanctions.

The European nations involved in the deal, on the other hand, would like to see it continue, preferring to add to it rather than get rid of it altogether. Trump is giving all parties involved until May to work out a revised or new deal.
