‘Everything In That Statement Is Wrong’: WaPo Fact Checks Biden’s

The Washington Post is calling out President Joe Biden for making a statement about the Second Amendment devoid of facts.

In a speech he delivered last week, Biden advocated for more gun control, calling for stricter background checks in order to weed out potential threats. During the address, he claimed the Second Amendment has, “from the day it was passed, limited the type of people who could own a gun and what type of weapon you could own.”
“You couldn’t buy a cannon!” the president added.

The Post awarded Biden four “Pinocchios” for the statement Monday.
David Kopel, research director and Second Amendment project director for the Independence Institute, said, “Everything in that statement is wrong.”
Upon the ratification of the Second Amendment in 1791, Kopel explained, “there were no federal laws about the type of gun you could own, and no states limited the kind of gun you could own.”
“Some readers might think this is a relatively inconsequential flub,” added Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler. “But we disagree. Every U.S. president has a responsibility to get American history correct, especially when he’s using a supposed history lesson in service of a political objective. The president’s push for more gun restrictions is an important part of his political platform, so he undercuts his cause when he cites faux facts.”
Biden faced criticism for other aspects of his speech, too.
Last week, the Washington Examiner accused the president of “misunderstanding” the Second Amendment altogether.

“Those who say ‘the blood of patriots,’ you know, and all the stuff about how we’re going to have to move against the government,” he said. “If you think you need to have weapons to take on the government, you need F-15s and maybe some nuclear weapons.”
The Examiner’s Jackson Rickman argued Biden’s comments about the Second Amendment “ignorantly paint law-abiding gun owners as a fanatical threat to America.”
“His words are a mockery not just of those citizens but also of the Constitution,” wrote Rickman. “Responsible gun owners do not seek to overthrow the government. Side note: F-15s and nuclear weapons are not firearms, and civilians are banned from owning the

When Joe Biden and Golda Meir met to discuss Israel’s secret weapon

This story of Joe Biden’s meeting with Prime Minister Golda Meir is a wonderful story. No matter who one supports in the 2020 election, this story of Golda Meir telling Biden Israel’s secret weapon sheds light on so much of what is true about Israel’s situation in the Middle East.

Joe Biden is no newcomer in Washington. For those who prefer outsiders, this is a negative. But for those who understand that experience is of enormous value, while they will understand that Joe Biden may have been Barack Obama’s Vice President for eight years, he and Obama are very different characters. Suffice it to say that Obama did not jump on the Biden bandwagon until Biden was clearly in charge of the Democratic nomination. Biden is a seasoned veteran liberal who has vast foreign policy experience. That does not necessarily mean that his policies will be wonderful or that he will surround himself with good advisors. But, if he does become President, it is still much better to have somebody in the Oval Office who met Golda Meir, Yitzhak Rabin, and other Israeli Prime Ministers, than it is to have an Obama-like President who basically espoused and promoted progressive values from the Oval Office that were detrimental to Israel, the US and the freedom-loving world.
Gold Meir was known for great lines like the one she said to Joe Biden. Meir was also an extremely effective fundraiser who made fateful trips to the United States before the formation of the State of Israel. She actually spent a significant part of her childhood in Minnesota, and therefore spoke English fluently. She was born in Kiev, and also visited the Soviet Union in a trip that garnered tremendous exposure within the Soviet Union to the successful, yet young State of Israel.
But unfortunately, her report card as Prime Minister was not as successful. The Yom Kippur War was a very costly war, with more than 2,300 Israelis killed. Meir stepped down due to public pressure and ultimately faded away from Israeli leadership. But her contributions to building up the State of Israel in it’s formative years were her greatest achievements.

Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden has added to a long list of gaffes for this election campaign – and his career – with a reference to his desire not to have "four more years" of "George."
It was during a virtual event over the weekend that he said, "This is the most consequential election in a long long time, and the character of the country in my view is literally on the ballot. What kind of country are we going to be four more years of George, uh, George, uh…"
Jill Biden, sitting beside him, appears to mutter "Trump" under her breath.
It didn't take long for President Donald Trump to notice, issuing a statement on social media, "Joe Biden called me George yesterday. Couldn't remember my name. Got some help from the anchor to get him through the interview. The Fake News Cartel is working overtime to cover it up!"

Speculation was that Biden was thinking of George W. Bush, president from 2001-09, or perhaps George H.W. who was in office from 1989-93.
The Daily Mail immediately compiled a list of Biden's misstatements just during this election season:
August 8, 2019: He tells the Asian & Latino Coalition in Des Moines, Iowa, that "poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids."

September 2: Biden told Iowans, "The idea that we don't have elimination of assault type weapons, magazines that can hold multiple bullets in them, it's absolutely mindless." By definition a magazine holds multiple rounds.

Joe Biden campaigns to be the 2020 Democratic presidential nominee
Joe Biden has emerged as the front-runner in the Democratic nomination race to take on President Donald Trump in November's White House election.
But his last viable opponent, Bernie Sanders, is keen to highlight the former US vice-president's political baggage from a long career as a Washington insider - and tar him as out of touch with the mainstream of the modern Democratic party.
Here, we break down the challenges Mr Biden still faces in the contest to become the Democratic nominee. Some of Mr Sanders' attack lines are already being picked up the Mr Trump campaign.
Social security
"Here's the deal: Joe Biden has repeatedly advocated for cuts to Social Security. I've fought my whole career to protect and expand it," Mr Sanders tweeted recently.
Going after Mr Biden's mixed record of support for the US government's social welfare programme for retirees has been a theme for the Vermont senator in recent days as he seeks to boost his campaign.
Reform of such so-called "entitlement" programmes has long been a political bugaboo for candidates as well as elected officials, and Mr Biden's decades-long career has laid bare this point. A senator before his stint as vice-president, Mr Biden argued that Social Security should be subject to government austerity. "When I argued that we should freeze federal spending, I meant Social Security as well," he said in 1995. "I meant every single solitary thing in the government. And I not only tried it once, I tried it twice, I tried it a third time, and I tried it a fourth time."
When challenged on this record on the campaign trail, Mr Biden has flat-out denied backing Social Security cuts. His campaign has said that, if elected, a President Biden would expand the programme, paying for it through a tax on the wealthy.
Despite his past comments, opinion polling of Florida voters in March indicated that 59% of them trusted Mr Biden to handle Social Security over Mr Sanders (37%).

All you need to know about US election
Abortion rights
"Joe Biden in the past has voted for what is called the Hyde Amendment, that said that women could not use Medicaid dollars in order to protect their reproductive rights and get an abortion," Sanders told supporters at a rally.
An exit poll analysis by the political forecast website FiveThirtyEight found that white women were the single largest voting group in the Super Tuesday primaries that turned around Mr Biden's campaign fortunes.
Given the importance of female voters, it is hardly surprising that Mr Biden's votes on reproductive health would be scrutinised. Mr Sanders has honed in on the former vice-president's positions on abortion, which have transformed over the past few decades. As a senator in 1981, he voted to support an amendment that would have allowed states to overturn the landmark Supreme Court ruling guaranteeing the US right to abortion. As recently as last year, he said he still supported the Hyde Amendment (which forbids public money from being used for abortions), but reversed course after it became clear he was the only Democrat in the field who did so.
Abortion access is an important issue for Democratic women, but Mr Sanders' denunciation of Mr Biden's record appears to go only so far. A YouGov/Economist poll finds that support from women overall for the former vice-president is slightly higher than for the Vermont senator. Young women under 30 back Mr Sanders. Those older than 45 back Mr Biden - and it is this group that votes more reliably.

Trade deals
"Does anybody think that Joe can go to Michigan or Wisconsin or Indiana or Minnesota and say vote for me, I voted for those terrible trade agreements?" Mr Sanders asked supporters in March. "I don't think so."
The anti-free trade line worked for Mr Sanders in 2016, when the same criticism of Hillary Clinton helped the senator, a protectionist and a populist, eke out a surprise win in Michigan over his rival.
Mr Biden has said he stands by his vote for the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta), which critics say hollowed out manufacturing in the US. However, Mr Biden has argued that he is a "fair trader" who believes that "we should treat other countries in a way they treat us", rather than a "free trader".
The argument against Mr Biden looks to be less effective for Mr Sanders this time around than four years ago. According to a recent Gallup poll, 67% of self-described Democrats now say that Nafta has been beneficial for the US.
The debate will play out in the general election, however. "Believe me, Trump will and has already talked about Joe's record on trade," Mr Sanders told CNN. "Just looking at the facts - if you're going into the heartland of America... it's hard to make the case, when Trump has made trade such an important part of his agenda."

Joe Biden’s son contradicts him, confesses that he spoke to him about Ukraine
September 24, 2019
Joe Biden said at a campaign stop over the weekend that he had never talked to his son Hunter about Hunter’s business dealings in the Ukraine, but previous comments by the younger Biden contradict that statement, Breitbart News reports.
“I have never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings,” Joe Biden told reporters in anger. He then went on to accuse President Donald Trump of urging the Ukrainian government to investigate the situation, calling it an abuse of power.

In June, however, Hunter Biden gave interviews to The New Yorker in which he said his father did speak to him about his overseas business holdings. “Dad said, ‘I hope you know what you are doing,’ and I said, ‘I do,’” Hunter Biden told the magazine.
The issue was raised after a whistleblower filed a complaint against Trump for a phone call in which he allegedly pressured Ukraine’s president to investigate the Bidens over a business deal made there.

Former Vice President Joe Biden added nine embarrassing moments to his ever-expanding list of campaign gaffes and blunders during the third Democrat primary debate in Houston, Texas, Thursday evening.
Below is a list of moments where the 76-year-old Biden misspoke, went off on bizarre tangents, or seemingly lost control of his body.
1.) Biden referred to himself as a “Congressman” — but never served in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Biden had this small brain freeze during a long-winded explanation of his position on criminal justice.
“I’ve been involved from the beginning, as a young congressman — councilman, I introduced legislation to try to keep them from putting a sewer plan in a poor neighborhood,” he told the debate moderators. Biden, prior to serving as vice president between 2009 and 2017, spent his entire career in the U.S. Senate. Though the upper chamber is considered to be a part of Congress, it’s uncommon for a senator to be referred to as a congressman.
2.) Biden wrongly referred to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) as “president.”
The former vice president made the remark as he attacked Sanders over his far-left Medicare for All proposal.
“If you notice, nobody’s yet said how much it’s going to cost the taxpayer. I hear this, large savings, the president,” he said of the senator, before correcting himself. “My friend from Vermont thinks that the employer is going to give back if you negotiate as a union all these years, got a cut in wages because you got insurance.”
3.) Biden makes a dated reference to “record players” during a rambling answer on education.
“Play the radio, make sure the television, excuse me, make sure you have the record player on at night. Make sure that kids hear words, a kid coming from a very poor school, a very poor background will hear four million words fewer spoken by the time we get there,” Biden attempted to explain.
His proposal for eliminating disparities between rich and poor students received mockery from members of the establishment media. New Yorker writer Emily Nussbaum tweeted: “I truly don’t understand wtf Biden is talking about. ‘Make sure you have the record player on at night’? This is messed up. And also, not an answer to the question.” President Donald Trump even mocked Biden for the bizarre reference, posting a GIF of the former vice president’s head spinning on a vinyl record on his personal Facebook page.
4.) Biden appeared to struggle to contain his teeth in his mouth.
The peculiar moment occurred during an exchange between moderator David Muir and the White House frontrunner on the Senate failing to pass legislation aimed at expanding background checks following the Sandy Hook massacre.
“Because I got it done before,” Biden began, as he seemingly attempted to adjust his teeth with his mouth. Some viewers have suggested the strange moment was a mishap with chewing gum, but the campaign has yet to issue a denial that Biden was having trouble with dentures.
“I’m the only one up here who has ever beat the NRA,” he went on after his teeth appeared to be put back in place. “I’m the only one to ever beat the NRA nationally. I’m the guy who brought the Brady Bill into focus and became law.”
This failure of the flesh comes days after Biden’s eye appeared to fill with blood during CNN’s climate change town hall event. In its coverage recapping Thursday’s debate, far-left Splinter quipped that the former vice president’s eye appeared to have not fully recovered: “Biden’s eye was still looking awfully bloody. This guy needs Medicare for All, for himself, ASAP.”
5.) “Nobody should be in jail for a non-violent crime.”
“Nobody should be in jail for a non-violent crime,” Biden argued as he recalled how thousands of federal inmates were released during the Obama administration.
“When we were in the White House, we released 36,000 people from the federal prison system,” he added. “Nobody should be in jail for a drug problem.”
As Breitbart News reporter John Binder explains: “Such a plan, which Biden seemingly endorsed, would set free from prison the roughly 450,000 to 500,000 ‘non-violent’ criminals who were arrested for various drug offenses and sit in local, state, and federal prisons on any given day.”
Many viewers were quick to note that Biden’s newfound leniency on crime would also apply to white-collar convicts like Bernie Madoff and Paul Manafort, the FBI’s consolation scalp from the Russia collusion hoax.
6.) Biden gets oddly specific about taking guns out of “basements.”
While not going quite as extreme as former Rep. Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke (D-TX), Biden suggested the federal government should buy back “assault weapons.” His answer took a turn, however, when he said of those guns, “get them out of the basements.”
He did not explain what threat such firearms pose while they remain stored in basements.
7.) Biden got lost in time, saying “I’m the vice president,” while 8.) falsely claiming the Obama administration never placed migrants in “cages” at detention facilities
The former vice president’s double gaffe occurred during an exchange with Univision’s Jorge Ramos when pressed on the Obama administration’s record on deporting and detaining migrants.
“What Latinos should look at, comparing this president to the president we have is outrageous, number one. We didn’t lock people up in cages,” Biden told the moderator, before falsely claiming, “we didn’t separate families.” Obama’s Department of Homeland Security separated children at the border from their parents and detained them in areas sectioned off by metal fences.
Asked by Ramos if the administration “made a mistake with those deportations,” the 2020 frontrunner declined to answer and instead launched into a defense of Obama.
“The president did the best thing that was able to be done,” Biden stated. Pressed on whether he had any regrets on how the Obama White House handled immigration policy, Biden bizarrely declared, “I’m the vice president of the United States.” This was not the first instance in which Biden mistakenly referred to himself as the sitting vice president. In August, he claimed he was in office during the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
9.) Biden pivots to — Venezuela? — when asked about reparations.
When pressed on institutional segregation and whether the U.S. needs to boost spending on education, Biden began:
We bring social workers into homes of parents to help them deal with how to raise their children. It’s not that they don’t want to help, they don’t know quite what to do… play the radio, make sure the television — excuse me, make sure you have the record player on at night, the — make sure that kids hear words, a kid coming from a very poor school — a very poor background will hear 4 million words fewer spoken by the time we get there.
When the debate moderator attempted to cut him off, Biden continued to ramble on:
No, I’m going to go like the rest of them do, twice over. Because here’s the deal. The deal is that we’ve got this a little backwards. And by the way, in Venezuela, we should be allowing people to come here from Venezuela. I know Maduro. I’ve confronted Maduro. Number two: You talk about the need to do something in Latin America. I’m the guy that came up with $740m, to see to it those three countries, in fact, changed their system so people don’t have the chance to leave. You’re acting like we just discovered this yesterday. [emphasis added]
Bonus: Early to bed!
After all these cringey moments, Biden dared not risk another. He did not appear in the “spin room” after the event, an area where candidates and their surrogates speak to reporters about their debate performances. Breitbart Senior Editor-at-Large Joel Pollak notes this is the former veep’s third consecutive time skipping the post-debate scrum, “making him the only candidate never to have made a spin room appearance in the 2020 election cycle.”

Joe Biden is starting to remind me of David Cronenberg’s 1986 remake of The Fly, the one where Jeff Goldblum’s Seth Brundle slowly falls apart.
The only difference is that Brundle had enough dignity to stay home.
So far, on top of all these senior moments, we have been forced to witness Biden’s eye explode and teeth come loose.
Time is definitely not on the former vice president’s side. What’s more, for all intents and purposes, the race for the Democrat nomination has only now begun. Everything before Labor Day was a warm-up. The fight to February, the six-month slog to when the first votes are taken in Iowa and New Hampshire, starts right now, and Biden came out of the starting gate with pieces missing.
What is Biden doing up there?
What is he thinking?
Why is he up there?
What’s going to happen in the next debate?
Let’s just hope nothing shakes out of his pants leg.
Biden’s numerical age is not a disqualifier, but his age-age certainly should be. He’s an old man. Old. Old as dirt. People get old at different ages. President Trump is 73 and remains as virile as ever. Elizabeth Warren is 70 and could pass for 55. Pete Buttigieg is 37 and doesn’t look a day over 13.
And it is not just Biden’s body that is falling apart; so is his mind.
In these clips, you can tell Biden knows what he wants to say, but the synapses refuse to connect:

Another bad sign for Biden is that he was actually pretty strong during the first half of the debate. It was during the second half that everything fell apart.
Whoever the Democrat nominee is, part of Trump’s game plan, as it was with Hillary, is going to be to run this person into the ground. Outwork, out-hustle, outrun, out-power him or her. As soon as he knows who the nominee will be, and that will happen sometime in the early summer, Trump will be everywhere, and he is not only indefatigable; he relishes the fight and cannot wait for it to begin.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden can’t make it through a two-hour debate without his eye exploding, his teeth falling out, and his brain going all Rain Man about record players.
Make sure the kids hear words, y’all.
