Graham predicts Trump acquittal before State of the Union address
January 17, 2020

https://www.dailyconservative.com/sc3/graham-predicts-trump-acquittal-before-state-of-the-union-address.htm
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) stunned the media this week when he announced that President Trump was likely to be acquitted by the Senate before his annual address to the nation, known as the State of the Union address, On February 4.
On Sean Hannity’s program, Graham said, “The best thing for the American people is to end this crap as quickly as possible, to have a trial in the Senate, bipartisan acquittal of the president.”

Graham continued, “And on February 4, when when the president comes into the House chamber to deliver the State of the Union, he will have been acquitted by the Senate.”

Graham also addressed Democrats’ request for more witnesses during the Senate trial, pointing out that the House could have called all these witnesses as well, and chose not to do so.

This is not a surprise. Graham previously called impeachment a “crock” and said that he wants the trial to end quickly.
Several Republicans have said that they would be open to calling witnesses, but refused to negotiate with House Democrats directly, affirming that the Senate will call witnesses only on its own terms.

Ted Cruz rips House Dems over impeachment tactics: ‘That pattern will not continue in the Senate’
January 16, 2020
After nearly a month of delay, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) finally signed off on the supposedly “urgent” articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump on Wednesday and transmitted them to the Senate so a trial could begin.
However, if she thought the next phase in the impeachment process would be the same as the first — hyper-partisan and one-sided with interminable delays and rules changed or ignored on the fly — Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has offered up a rather blunt message on social media to set her straight.

The Senate in charge
Cruz tweeted on Thursday: “Today, House Dems are finally handing the reins of their partisan show trial over to the Senate. For months, the American people have been lectured on the critical urgency of impeaching Trump. For weeks, Pelosi dragged her feet, refusing to send the Articles over to the Senate.
“The reason is that the Articles fail to meet the constitutional standard for impeachment. They do not allege a single crime was committed — not even a speeding ticket,” he continued.

The Texas senator went on to say it has “been disheartening to watch House Democrats subject our constitutional process and the [p]resident to relentless abuse and partisan gamesmanship for blatantly political purposes.”

“That pattern will not continue in the Senate,” Cruz declared authoritatively. He also affirmed in his tweet thread that the Senate would give Trump a “fair trial” that “follows precedent and respects due process.”

“Unlike the House, we will be fair, give both sides a full opportunity to present their case, and allow the [p]resident to defend himself,” Cruz tweeted.

No more games
The senator’s remarks come after Pelosi finally sent the articles of impeachment against President Trump to the Senate this week. The House speaker had previously said she needed to be ensured a fair trial by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) before submitting the articles, but things seemed to change when McConnell revealed last week that he had the votes necessary to run a trial on his terms.
Now, Cruz says the Senate will act quickly to get this impeachment charade over once and for all.
“I look forward to reviewing the evidence, voting on these facially-deficient Articles [and] continuing to deliver on promises made to the American people, like securing our border, reducing federal regulations [and] creating more economic opportunities,” he tweeted.
ndeed, things are finally reaching a pivotal point in the Senate, with a trial underway and the meat of it set to start next week.
One way or another, the nonsense to which the country has been subjected for the past several months is finally nearing its conclusion. Thank goodness.

Gowdy: Comey refused to address Russian document leak in classified setting
January 17, 2020
Mgid
Former congressman and current Fox contributor Trey Gowdy weighed in on the recent New York Times report on former FBI director James Comey’s alleged leak of a Russian intelligence document to the media in 2017.
Gowdy said during an interview with Fox’s Martha McCallum in regards to the bombshell report that “I’m not a fan of Jim Comey, but […] I’m not going to indict him or convict him based on New York Times reporting.”

The embattled former intelligence chief is under federal investigation due to what the Times says is “a years-old leak of classified information about a Russian intelligence document.”

According to the report, a Russian intelligence document was obtained by hackers working for the Dutch government, which was then passed along to the FBI.

The Times report alleges that “The document played a key role in Mr. Comey’s decision to sideline the Justice Department and announce in July 2016 that the F.B.I. would not recommend that Hillary Clinton face charges in her use of a private email server to conduct government business while secretary of state.”
The Times characterized the new investigation as a politically motivated hit-job against Comey, who has been repeatedly excoriated by President Trump.

However, Gowdy explained that when Comey was asked to address the document in a classified Congressional briefing, Comey refused to comment on the matter.

“Jim Comey was asked behind closed doors in a classified setting to address it, and he would not do it. His response was [that] it was so highly classified, he was not even going to tell people that were cleared to hear it in a classified setting,” Gowdy said.

Gowdy called the Times report into question but also pointed out that although the piece isn’t helpful in determining Comey’s innocence or guilt, “My experience with him on this very fact pattern, the subject of the article, he would not address it even in a setting where he could do so. And it would have benefited him to do so, and he still did not do it.”

Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ) brushed off a question from CNN reporter Manu Raju on Thursday morning, calling him a “liberal hack.”
Raju caught her in the halls of the Senate on the way to a hearing room and asked her if she would consider new evidence as part of the Senate’s impeachment trial.
McSally walked past him and said, “Manu, you’re a liberal hack; I’m not talking to you.

After weeks of delay, Pelosi makes plans to send impeachment articles to Senate for trial
January 10, 2020
https://www.conservativeinstitute.org/conservative-news/pelosi-plans-articles-senate.htm
For weeks, it’s seemed the impeachment stalemate between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) would never come to an end. But on Friday, Pelosi finally made her move.

In a Dear Colleague letter to House Democrats, Pelosi said she will bring to the House floor next week a resolution to, at last, send the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump to the Senate for trial.
“I have asked Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler to be prepared to bring to the Floor next week a resolution to appoint managers and transmit articles of impeachment to the Senate,” the House speaker wrote. “I will be consulting with you at our Tuesday House Democratic Caucus meeting on how we proceed further.”

Pelosi has been holding onto the articles since House Dems passed them in a highly partisan vote on Dec. 18, 2019, insisting that she needed to be assured a “fair” trial would ensue before she could allow the process to move forward, according to The Washington Post. But after Democrats like Sen. Dianne Feinstein (CA) told Pelosi earlier this week to give up the act, it looks like the House speaker has finally caved.

Pelosi: I’m Not Holding Impeachment Articles ‘Indefinitely’ – They Will ‘Probably’ Be Sent Over ‘Soon’

During a press conference on Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stated that she won’t hold the impeachment articles from the Senate “indefinitely” and will send the articles when she is “ready. And that will probably be soon.”

Pelosi said, “I’m not holding them indefinitely. I’ll send them over when I’m ready. And that will probably be soon. … We want to see what they’re willing to do, and the manner in which they will do it.”

Sorry, Fake News Media: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is no master strategist or a political genius — not even close.

Pelosi, who turns 80 in March and acts every day of it, only has one skill: Like Jim Jones, or any other cult leader, she’s very good at leading her followers off a cliff.

Yeah, sure, she can keep her caucus together. Big whoop.

To begin with, since first becoming speaker of the house in 2007, over the 13 years since, she’s been so bad at her job, she’s been out of power more years than not. She lost the House four years later, in 2011, and was cast into the wilderness of the minority for eight long years after.

Sorry, Fake News Media: 5 years in power out of 13 is not the record of a genius.

Pelosi was also the architect of the biggest political debacle since Prohibition. It was her caucus that wrote and passed Obamacare, which resulted in one of the biggest political wipeouts in history, and not just at the national level. In record numbers, Obamacare devastated Democrats at every level, including the local, and only after a decade are they finally starting to crawl back.

Impeachment, though… Wow.

To begin with, when it comes to impeachment, Little Miss Master Strategist failed at the only thing she’s ever been good at — leading the cult. She let the tail wag her dog. Pelosi had planned to use the 116th Congress, her return to power in 2019, as a means to accomplish all kinds of things: health care, minimum wage, infrastructure. She wanted to put on a legislative show that would prove to the American people Democrats are ready to govern, that it is okay to boot President Trump in 2020.

But she couldn’t do it.

Rather than lead the cult, the cult led her, forced Little Miss Master Strategist to run wild with impeaching Trump, which has not only sucked all the air out of the 116th Congress and the 2020 Democrat presidential field, on every conceivable level, impeachment has backfired.

Let’s start with the fact that after being impeached, Trump’s poll numbers are in better shape now than they were before he was impeached.

What’s more, the impeachment itself was handled with such hammy hands, in such an ugly and partisan manner (secret basement hearings, selective leaks, etc.), that the more the public saw of it, the more they learned about the actual non-case against Trump, the more the public turned against it.

But it was only after the hearings became public that Little Miss Master Strategist started to look like a monkey trying to hump a rolling basketball. What I’m saying is, what kind of Political Genius moves ahead with impeachment without anything resembling a case? Not only is there no proof Trump did anything criminal; there’s no proof he did anything wrong or unethical at all.

And, I’m sorry, no number of entitled bureaucrats sporting a chest full of military ribbons can change this basic fact…

If Ukraine didn’t know, there can be no quid pro quo.

The entire impeachment case is built on the idea Trump bribed or extorted Ukraine to dig up dirt on Burisma Joe Biden, that Trump used the withholding of U.S. aid as the incentive or a threat… But Ukraine didn’t know the delivery of the aid had been paused, which proves Trump’s innocence conclusively.

How can you bribe or extort someone who has no idea there is no carrot or stick? The whole thing is ludicrous, a total debacle.

Worse still, one of the two articles of impeachment called for Trump’s removal because he exercised his due process rights by asking the courts to decide on the issue of subpoenas. Seriously, Little Miss Master Strategist wants Trump removed for the crime of asking the courts to decide on something.

And other than being equally lame, I’ve already forgotten what the other impeachment article is about.

But this was only the beginning of Little Miss Master Strategist’s pratfalls.

Her gob-smacking decision, her gambit in withholding the articles of impeachment from the Senate, might be the stupidest political move since John McCain quit his presidential campaign to save the economy. Her reasoning for this is a uniquely funny act of stepping on a rake.

Pelosi believes that by withholding the impeachment articles, she can muscle the Senate into doing what she couldn’t — make anything resembling a case against Trump. You see, Little Miss Master Strategist didn’t even do the basics — you know, things like waiting for the courts to rule on her subpoenas so she would have all the testimony and facts before impeaching a sitting president.

And if that’s not enough of a face plant, there’s this… Pelosi said she couldn’t wait for the courts because it was a matter of urgent national importance to immediately remove the dangerous Orange Bad Man from office.

So here’s the media’s idea of a master political strategist in action…

After spending months justifying her haphazard, lazy, and wildly ineffective rush-to-impeach based on the premise speed was a matter of grave, national importance, Little Miss Master Strategist is now — LOL — stalling the entire process…

And where did the idea for this stupider than stupid stalling gambit come from?

Little Miss Master Strategist got her master strategy from — no joke — CNN, a basement-rated cable channel that is so good at strategizing, it can’t even strategize its own way ahead of HGTV and the Hallmark Channel in the ratings.

And just how bad of a strategy is this stalling tactic?

Well, while Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell sits in Little Miss Master Strategist’s briar patch eating chocolate pudding and watching action movies, Pelosi’s own Democrats are rebelling against Little Miss Master Strategist’s master strategy. And I’m not talking about semi-sane Democrats like Sen. Joe Manchin. No, I’m talking about Pelosi’s own senator from California, Dianne Feinstein… I’m talking about Pelosi’s own committee chairs, like Rep. Adam Smith. Along with a number of other left-wing Democrats, both have publicly called for Little Miss Master Strategist to end this master strategy.

Oh, sure, Smith later went the full cuck and recanted. But, again, that just proves Pelosi is an effective cult leader. As far as the question of her political genius, let me answer that this way…

Let’s hope Pelosi leads the Democrat Party for a long, long time.

Republican senator moves to dismiss impeachment case
January 5, 2020 by Patriot News Alerts
Democrats are refusing to send the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump to the Senate — and now, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) is introducing legislation to outright dismiss House Democrats’ impeachment case, Breitbart reports.

Impeachment leaders Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Adam Schiff (D-CA) are beginning to feel the head as Americans are tiring of the charade.

Time to move on
Hawley plans to introduce legislation Monday that seek to dismiss the articles of impeachment.

Hawley, who formerly served as the Missouri attorney general, has said that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi withholding the articles of impeachment is an “abuse of the Constitution.”

Further hammering the point home, Hawley tweeted: “In [the] real world, if prosecution doesn’t proceed with case, it gets dismissed. So on Monday, I will introduce measure to dismiss this bogus impeachment for lack of prosecution.”

Democrats have no evidence for impeaching President Trump, and they know it. After rushing the impeachment inquiry, they’re beginning to realize that the Senate will not take their crusade seriously.

There are many dire issues that need the legislature’s attention at this time, and Democrats are wasting precious time by not forwarding the articles.

If the Democrat prosecution doesn’t want to argue the case, then the case should be dismissed.

Conservative groups have declared their support for Hawley’s proposal. Jenny Beth Martin, the co-founder of the Tea Party Patriots praised the move, tweeting: “Kudos to [Hawley] for pushing hard for what a majority of Americans want — for [Pelosi] to send the articles of impeachment to the Senate, so we can have a trial.”

Politics at it’s worst
Of course, the Democrats’ attempt to impeach President Trump is partisan politics at it’s worst.

https://www.conservativeinstitute.org/conservative-news/nunes-investigation-whistleblower-complaint.htm
Nunes: Intelligence inspector general Atkinson under investigation for role in whistleblower complaint
January 7, 2020

When the still-unidentified CIA employee filed a whistleblower complaint against President Donald Trump over his July phone call with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson transmitted the complaint to Congress.
Now Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) wants answers, and he just stunned House Speaker Nancy Pelosi by announcing that House Republicans have launched an investigation into Atkinson.

Atkinson is in the spotlight
House Democrats used the complaint to launch the impeachment inquiry, and Atkinson happily testified behind closed doors. However, his testimony has never been released.

“We really do need to hear from the whistleblower,” he said during a Monday interview with Radio America host Sara Carter.

“That needs to happen and the fact that the Democrats won’t release the transcript of us interviewing the Inspector General Atkinson that brought this scam forward,” the House Intelligence Committee member explained.

“Everyone needs to see that testimony and the reason that it’s not being released is because it’s very damaging, not only to the whistleblower, but also to Atkinson himself.”

Nunes went on to say that he and fellow his Republicans want Atkinson to provide answers on who altered the complaint and why.

“We’ve mentioned it, but I think people have just kind of ignored it because, of course, we don’t have the subpoena power, so we can’t bring Atkinson back in but he’s got serious questions to answer for because I believe that he either lied to Congress or he really needs to correct his statements and he’s refused to respond.”

“It doesn’t work with us anymore”
Nunes did not provide details on Atkinson’s testimony, but he did say that his reply to their letter requesting information wasn’t good enough, calling it “a very typical IC response, which is to not answer the question.”

“Three years ago, that might’ve worked,” Nunes conceded. “It doesn’t work with us anymore.”

“He is under active investigation. I’m not gonna go any farther than that because you know obviously he has a chance to come in and prove his innocence, but my guess is Schiff, Atkinson they don’t want that transcript out because it’s very damaging.”

Nunes demanded to know why there was no outcry over the transcript not being made public, pointing out that “nobody in the media is calling for it.” He remarked, “You’d think they would be, but you know I’ve talked about it on television, John Ratcliffe’s talked about it on television. There’s very few of us that actually know what’s in the transcript, but … it’s a major problem.”

https://www.conservativeinstitute.org/conservative-news/murkowski-disturbed-coordination-impeachment.htm
Sen. Lisa Murkowski ‘disturbed’ by Republican ‘coordination’ with White House on impeachment
December 26, 2019

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), one of three “swing” Republicans in the Senate who Democrats and the media believe can be flipped against President Donald Trump in an impeachment trial, just bolstered that perception on Tuesday by stating how “disturbed” she was that Senate Republican leaders pledged to work closely with the White House during the eventual trial, Breitbart reported.

Murkowski’s comments, which were seized upon by the left to use against President Trump, came during an interview with local NBC affiliate KTUU in Anchorage, Alaska, in which she issued criticism of both her own Republican colleagues in the Senate as well as the House Democrats who hurriedly passed articles of impeachment prior to the Christmas break.

Murkowski’s concerns
According to NPR, what apparently had the senator most “disturbed” were comments made by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, during which McConnell announced that his team would be “working through this process, hopefully in a fairly short period of time, in total coordination with the White House counsel’s office.”

“And in fairness, when I heard that I was disturbed,” Murkowski told KTUU, suggesting instead that all senators should be impartial in the coming trial.

Murkowski added: “To me, it means that we have to take that step back from being hand in glove with the defense, and so I heard what leader McConnell had said, I happened to think that that has further confused the process.”

Criticizes rushed impeachment
While the liberal media chose to focus solely on Murkowski’s apparent criticism of McConnell, however, the senator also had some choice words for House Democrats and Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who she believes rushed the impeachment process and cut corners, only to now expect the Senate to fill in the gaps and interview witnesses House Democrats failed to call during the hurried and incomplete investigation.

“Speaker Pelosi was very clear, very direct that her goal was to get this done before Christmas,” Murkowski said.

She went on to reference uncalled witnesses such as White House Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and former National Security Adviser John Bolton, saying:  “If the House truly believe that they have information that was going to be important, they subpoena them and if they ignore the subpoena — as they did, at the direction of the White House — then that next step is to go to the courts.”

GOP predicts bipartisan Trump acquittal in Senate
December 26, 2019
Loading...
Senate Republicans have finally sent notice: Trump will likely be acquitted by a bipartisan majority in the U.S. Senate.

Far from the two-thirds majority consisting of Republicans and Democrats that the left needs to remove Trump, a few Senate Democrats are expected to join with Republicans in acquitting the Republican President, top Senate Republicans have now said.

Democrats need 67 votes. They are unlikely to win even half (50) and will likely fall well short of that number.

Republican Senator David Perdue (R-GA) made it clear that he believes this report is accurate. “I think we might have a couple,” he said. “I don’t want to speculate on who — obviously that puts too much pressure on them — but I really think we have people on both sides that are trying to get to a reasonable, nonpartisan answer.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell agrees. “It wouldn’t surprise me if we got one or two Democrats. It looks to me over in the House, the Republicans seem to be solid and the Democrats seem to be divided,” McConnell said.

One likely Democrat acquittal vote is Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV). He has described himself as “very much torn” on the issue of impeachment and has been known to vote with Republicans on big issues in the past, such as when he voted to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Trump: Impeachment “scam” is damaging relations with foreign leaders
December 26, 2019
Loading...
Donald Trump just broke the news that the Democrats’ ongoing smear campaign against him is causing far-reaching consequences for US foreign policy.

Trump tweeted on Thursday:

“Despite all of the great success that our Country has had over the last 3 years, it makes it much more difficult to deal with foreign leaders (and others) when I am having to constantly defend myself against the Do Nothing Democrats & their bogus Impeachment Scam. Bad for USA!”

Trump has been attempting to advance such projects as the USMCA, a trade deal with China, and denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and immigration deals with Mexico and other Central American countries for quite some time now.

For several months now, Democrats — especially House Democrats — have been laser-focused on impeachment, to the detriment of these important negotiations that would improve the American economy, foreign relations, and national security.

Instead of focusing on policymaking and representation, Democrats have hijacked the House to push their narrative against Trump.

Despite their obstruction, Trump has still managed to pull out several major foreign policy wins, including finally getting the USMCA through the House and negotiating a reported trade deal with China that would end the ongoing trade war with the Asian superpower.

Even with Democrats trying to destroy Trump’s reputation, he still gets things done. Now imagine how much would be accomplished if Democrats would actually work with him instead of against him.

House Judiciary argues that McGahn’s testimony required to produce new evidence for impeachment
December 25, 2019
Loading...
As if the impeachment charade isn’t already ridiculous enough, the House Judiciary Committee has told a federal appeals court that former White House counsel Don McGahn must testify before the committee, even though the house has already voted on the articles of impeachment.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision to back the committee’s demand will drag out the impeachment process even further, and it could lead to Democrats concocting further articles of impeachment.

Fox News reports that “The lawyer for House Judiciary Committee Democrats revealed in a Monday court filing that there is a possibility lawmakers could pursue even more articles of impeachment against President Trump — despite having already adopted two of them last week.”

The House Judiciary Committee subpoenaed McGahn in March 2019 to testify in regards to whether Trump or the White House obstructed justice during the process of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s now-concluded investigation.

McGahn, who left the White House last year, was been blocked from testifying by the White House, citing “absolute immunity” as the justification.

D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals issued a stay of a previous ruling ordering McGahn to testify in November. Now, the committee’s lawyer has argued against the decision, stating that “McGahn’s testimony remains central to the committee’s ongoing inquiry into the President’s obstructive conduct.”

“If McGahn’s testimony produces new evidence supporting the conclusion that President Trump committed impeachable offenses that are not covered by the Articles approved by the House, the Committee will proceed accordingly—including, if necessary, by considering whether to recommend new articles of impeachment,” the brief reads.

House Democrats, backed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, may be realizing that they rushed the impeachment vote a little too much and are now scared by the Senate GOP’s outspoken support of dismissal of impeachment altogether.

Although some say it’s unlikely that the committee will actually pursue new articles of impeachment, it’s telling that this new strategy has even been considered.

Dershowitz: Pelosi Withholding Articles of Impeachment an ‘Abuse of Power,’ ‘Obstruction of the Senate’
JEFF POOR24 Dec 2019254
Monday, during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz explained how House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s effort to thwart President Donald Trump’s impeachment process in the U.S. Senate was an abuse of power.

He also said it was obstruction of the Senate, which in addition to abuse of power, are the two charges facing Trump.

“There’s nothing in the Constitution about articles of impeachment,” he said. “There’s nothing in the Constitution about forwarding. As far as the American public is concerned, the president has been impeached. And that’s why it’s utterly unfair to suggest we don’t have to allow the Senate now to acquit him. There are two alternatives. If he hasn’t been impeached, Nancy Pelosi has to go to the media and say, ‘Please, all the media that says he has been impeached, please withdraw that. He’s not impeached. He’s presumed innocent. He’s absolutely innocent. His status hasn’t changed.'”

“If he has been impeached, the Senate has to start its trial as soon as they choose to,” Dershowitz continued. “Remember, the Senate is the sole judge of guilty or innocence of impeachment. And so the Democrats can’t have it both ways. They can’t sound the one hand — to the public we are saying he is impeached, but for the Senate, we’re saying he is not impeached. You know what I say? This is obstruction of the Senate — exactly the same charge that made against the president. This is abuse of power from exactly the same charge they made against the president. It is wrong constitutionally. It is wrong morally. And it is wrong politically.”

Dark money groups demand Brett Kavanaugh recuse himself from case
December 24, 2019
Loading...
It seems that the far left simply cannot let go of their hatred for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. No matter how great a job he does on the Supreme Court, they just can’t handle the fact that they lost and he won. Before, they went after him for alleged sexual assault and other things. Now, they’re simply trying to silence him by suggesting that he can’t rule on cases fairly and with an open mind.

Several groups, including a pair of very liberal “dark money” groups, are trying to get him to recuse himself from a case involving the Consumer Financial Protection Board (CFPB).

“We call on Justice Kavanaugh to recuse himself from hearing a case on which he has already made up his mind,” several groups wrote in a joint statement. “The law clearly states that judges should recuse themselves when their impartiality might reasonably be questioned. Brett Kavanaugh has already ruled on the underlying legal question in this case. He cannot plausibly claim to be open to arguments from both sides,” they also said.

But this is clearly ridiculous. His opinions were judicial ones. Surely no one thinks that a judge should only be able to hear a case once in his or her career about a particular topic. This is asinine.

Scott Walter, President of the Capital Research Center, went further than just attacking the groups’ hilariously flawed logic. “Of those four organizations, three of the four are all run by Arabella Advisors, which is the peak of this gigantic dark money pyramid on the left. In 2018, they ran $635 million through their empire,” he said.

It seems that the left will stop at nothing to damage Justice Kavanaugh and protect their own big money interests.

Ginsburg suggests Republican senators should be ‘disqualified’ from impeachment trial
December 21, 2019

In an interview this week, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg appeared to suggest that some Republican senators should be “disqualified” from their constitutional role in the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump due to their prior expressions of support for acquittal.

The Democrat-controlled House of Representatives passed two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump this week and, eventually, those articles should be transmitted to the Republican-controlled Senate for an impeachment trial, in which the president is expected to be acquitted.

A question of impartiality
Ginsburg’s remarks came during a wide-ranging interview with the BBC during which she explained, in terms of impeachment, “The House indicts, and the Senate tries.”

“Should a trier be impartial? Of course, that’s the job of a judge to be impartial,” she said in reference to all of the senators.

BBC journalist Riza Iqbal noted how “problematic” it was that some senators had already announced that their minds were made up prior to the start of an impeachment trial, and Ginsburg appeared to agree.

“Well, if a judge said that, a judge would be disqualified from sitting on the case,” Ginsburg said.

A moment later she added a “quote” from former Chief Justice William Rehnquist, who she alleged to have said, “The day a judge stops being impartial, and starts to do things to please the home crowd — whatever your home crowd is — that’s the day that judge should step down from office.”

It goes both ways
Justice Ginsburg basically suggested that Republican senators who’ve already made their intentions to acquit President Trump known ahead of the trial have displayed that they are not “impartial” and should, therefore, be “disqualified” from serving as jurors in that trial.

But her logic cannot only be applied in one direction, and there are a number of Democrat senators — most notably the four currently running for president in opposition to Trump — who have similarly expressed their predetermined intent to convict.

If Ginsburg’s logic is carried through, there likely wouldn’t be any senators on either side of the political divide who could serve as an impartial juror in this case, which makes her commentary — and the left’s heralding of it — all the more ridiculous and inapplicable to this unique circumstance.

Impeachment is political
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) reminded reporters this week that impeachment is a political process, not a judicial one:

I’m not an impartial juror. This is a political process. There’s not anything judicial about it. The House made a partisan political decision to impeach. I would anticipate we will have a largely partisan outcome in the Senate. I’m not impartial about this at all.

Pelosi, Schumer join forces to sit on impeachment articles
December 23, 2019

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have banded together to sit on impeachment articles.

Their actions are infuriating for the majority of Americans who oppose removing Trump, as well as those who just want basic fairness. It’s not fair to accuse someone of something but then refuse them the right to their own trial.

“We’re both going to work as hard as we can to get a fair trial,” Schumer told reporters. Schumer also said that he and Speaker Pelosi are on, “the same page” with regards to sitting on impeachment.

Democrats, like Schumer and Pelosi, seem to believe that Republicans want to put impeachment behind them, and this will create leverage. But Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell seems to have laughed off the suggestion.

McConnell and other Republicans seem to be reasoning that impeachment is already unpopular, it isn’t getting more popular, and Republicans never wanted it in the Senate to begin with.

It seems that Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer have backed themselves into a corner. Republicans have no intention of removing Trump from office or giving in to Democrat demands for more witnesses. And meanwhile, their unpopular move to impeach the President is not getting any more popular.

Lindsey Graham calls for swift impeachment trial with no witnesses
December 19, 2019
https://www.conservativeinstitute.org/conservative-news/graham-trial-no-witnesses.htm
With the impeachment of President Donald Trump now heading toward a trial in the Republican-controlled Senate, Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has made it clear that he has no desire to hear testimony from any additional witnesses, the Washington Examiner reported.

Sen. Graham’s proposed prohibition of further testimony extends to requests from both Republicans and Democrats, despite President Trump’s previously expressed desire to obtain testimony from a number of individuals involved in the Ukraine controversy.

Graham says no to witnesses
On Wednesday, the Democrat-controlled House passed two articles of impeachment (along party lines) against the president — one for “abuse of power” and the other for “obstruction of Congress.” Now, Graham is anxious to put those articles to rest as soon as they can be taken up, most likely at some point in January.

There had been some talk by President Trump and his allies about calling upon certain witnesses during the upcoming trial, including House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA), the partisan ringleader of the impeachment inquiry, and Hunter Biden, son of former Vice President Joe Biden, whose questionable business dealings in Ukraine sit at the heart of the entire impeachment charade.

Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has issued a demand for testimony during the trial from a number of White House officials, though Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has already rejected that request, ABC News reports.

Speedy trial desired
When it comes to the requests for additional witness testimony, however, Graham said on Wednesday: “I’m going to tell the president, ‘no,’ to his witnesses request because I think what is best for the country is to get this behind us as soon as possible.

“I know a lot of people on the president’s team want to call Hunter Biden and Joe Biden,” the senator continued. Hinting at potential committee hearings in the near future, he added: “And we can look at those accusations outside of impeachment.”

Graham made it clear that he would also oppose any witnesses called upon by Schumer and the Democrats as well, insisting that the articles passed by the House be voted on as-is.

“I’m not going to support witnesses being called by the president. I’m not going to support witnesses being called by Sen. Schumer,” he explained. “We are going to vote on the same product the House used for a final vote, and I think most senators are ready to move forward at the appropriate time.”

No dismissal, just a vote
Sen. Graham also put to rest rumors that the Republican majority would summarily dismiss the articles of impeachment without ever taking them up. “I don’t want a motion to dismiss,” he said. “I want a vote on the articles themselves… There is a desire by senators to get this chapter closed and move forward.”

Assuming all 100 senators participate in the impeachment trial and considering the two-thirds requirement to achieve conviction and removal, the 47-member Democrat minority would need 20 Republicans to cross the aisle and vote against President Trump, which is an extraordinarily unlikely proposition.

As for calling witnesses during that trial, however, a simple majority is all that is needed, meaning Schumer will undoubtedly be searching for four Republicans to join him in prolonging the trial. That seems far more reachable than the 20 necessary for conviction, but chances of success there are also slim.

Barr says Durham probe could take months to finish
December 20, 2019

Attorney General William Barr shocked millions when he said this week that he does not expect U.S. Attorney John Durham’s report to be completed for months — possible going into the summer months.

This means that the investigation into the origins of the Russia hoax is deep and quite serious, and indicates that Durham may have found enough evidence to suggest that indictments are forthcoming.

“He is moving very diligently,” Barr told Fox News. “Just based on my general knowledge of the things that he is looking at or has to look at in the future,” said Barr, “I would not think that he would be in a position for quite a few months.”

Barr had previously indicated that the investigation was expanding. “He is looking at other agencies and also private — departments, and also private actors. So it is a much broader investigation,” Barr said.

This is all very good news for President Trump. We now know that the FBI knew the dossier was fake and used it anyway to get FISA warrants. We also know that the FISA court is furious about that.

The court is also none too pleased that evidence was withheld that proved the innocence of Trump officials who were being surveilled.

Barr’s newest revelation shows that this is a matter his Justice Department is taking very seriously. That has to make Trump feel a whole lot better with the direction of the DOJ as well as his own political fortunes.

Evangelicals have called the impeachment of Donald Trump as a "sham" and "farce".
The Democrat-majority House of Representatives voted in favour of impeaching the US president by 230 votes to 197 for alleged abuse of power.

Speaking during the debate, Republican Barry Loudermilk, of Georgia, compared Trump to Jesus Christ standing trial before Pontius Pilate.

"When Jesus was falsely accused of treason, Pontius Pilate gave Jesus the opportunity to face his accusers," he said.

"During that sham trial, Pontius Pilate afforded more rights to Jesus than the Democrats have afforded this president and this process."

His sentiments were echoed by evangelist Franklin Graham, a longtime loyal supporter of Trump who defended the president on Facebook.
"As the Democrats and their socialist allies are impeaching the President, he hasn't missed a beat—he's been busy working," he said.

"He just successfully completed his 50th appellate court appointment, fulfilling another campaign promise to appoint conservative judges to our court system.

"These judges will have a positive impact on our nation for years to come. Thank you Mr. President."

Another Trump devotee, Pastor Robert Jeffress tweeted: "There are millions of Christians who REALLY mean it when they say they are praying for President@realDonaldTrump
"Today's impeachment vote will ensure these same Christians turn out in record numbers to re-elect him in 2020! FARCE!!"

The articles of impeachment will now go before the Senate, where the Republicans are in the majority.  A two-thirds majority vote will be required to remove the president from office.

Acting Ukraine ambassador Bill Taylor announces resignation
December 18, 2019
Weeks after testifying in House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry, Bill Taylor, the acting U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, has announced that he will step down from his post in early January, according to the Daily Caller.

Taylor was a key witness for Democrats who testified in both a closed-door deposition and an open hearing to his belief that President Donald Trump withheld military aid to Ukraine for inappropriate purposes — namely, to get Ukraine to investigate allegations of 2016 election interference and corrupt business dealings in the country by Hunter Biden, son of former Vice President Joe Biden.

Taylor heads out
Word of Taylor’s impending departure was first reported by NBC News, which noted that, due to his status as a non-Senate confirmed “acting” ambassador, Taylor’s term in that role was limited by the Federal Vacancies Act. As such, Taylor’s term would have expired by Jan. 8, 2020, but he is expected to step down from the role on Jan. 1 and leave Ukraine by Jan. 2.

Taylor took over the role as ambassador in May after his predecessor, Marie Yovanovitch — who was also a star witness in Dems’ inquiry — was recalled.

According to NBC, Taylor, a Vietnam veteran who has served in the diplomatic service since 1985, previously served as ambassador to Ukraine under former President George W. Bush. He was tapped to replace Yovanovitch by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Switching things up
Diplomatic responsibility for Ukraine will reportedly be handed over to Deputy Chief of Mission Kristina Kvien for the time being. According to ABC News, Kvien is a career Foreign Service officer who arrived in Ukraine in May to serve as Taylor’s principal deputy.

She will assume the role of “charge d’affairs” as the top U.S. diplomat in Ukraine until a permanent replacement is nominated by President Trump and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

The White House remains in the midst of the vetting process for that permanent replacement, according to ABC, meaning Kvien could serve in the role for some time. For his part, Pompeo will be making a trip to Ukraine himself in January, shortly after Taylor’s departure, in what will likely be viewed as a show of support for Kvien.

Looking forward
While ABC declined to name a particular candidate, Politico reported that Trump’s most likely pick for the Ukraine ambassador role is retired Army Lt. Gen. Keith Dayton, who is currently the director of the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies. He is said to be personally liked by the president and is reportedly willing to take the job.

Another potential candidate is career Foreign Service officer Phillip Reeker, currently the acting assistant secretary of State for European and Eurasian affairs. For his part, Reeker testified in the closed-door portion of the impeachment inquiry, and reportedly stated in an October deposition that there was an “ongoing” search for a new ambassador to Ukraine.

Politico reported that Reeker had initially been chosen to replace Yovanovitch, but for unknown reasons that assignment didn’t pan out and Taylor was named instead.

All of this comes as Ukraine just named its own replacement ambassador to the U.S.: Volodymyr Yelchenko, currently that nation’s ambassador to the United Nations, will succeed Valeriy Chaly in the role. Chaly was recalled by Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky for being highly critical of President Trump.

White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham joined SiriusXM host Alex Marlow on Wednesday’s Breitbart News Daily for an exclusive interview to discuss President Donald Trump’s letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi blasting the impeachment process. She described impeachment as a desperate Democrat effort to overturn the 2016 election because they know President Trump is likely to win reelection in 2020.

LISTEN:

When Marlow quoted Trump’s charge that House Democrats have “cheapened the importance of the very ugly word ‘impeachment,’” Grisham agreed that Democrats’ impeachment vote would mark “a very sad day in history.”

“It’s such a partisan issue right now, and this will be a partisan impeachment. This is going to change things forever. Future presidents will have to worry about this very thing – and that would be Republican or Democrat,” she said.

Grisham said President Trump personally composed the letter to Pelosi because he wanted to “put this down on paper for future generations because he is seeing what this is going to do for years to come.”

“They are truly changing history because they don’t like his policies,” she said of the Democrats. “It’s a very, very sad day.”

Grisham said Democrats would proceed with their impeachment vote despite growing public opposition, particularly in must-win battleground states, because they want to “overturn the 2016 election” and have been trying to do so ever since President Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton.

“From the very beginning, the Democrats have been calling for his impeachment – and that’s prior to his success,” she noted. “Since then, he has had nothing but success, and they see what’s coming for 2020.”

“It’s not just the president,” she pointed out. “The president noted in his letter that his family has been hurt by this. Here you’ve got a family – Mrs. Trump – who has been working so hard on behalf of the children of this country. You’ve got Ivanka Trump, who has been pushing relentlessly for paid child leave and women’s empowerment all over the world, and you’ve got Jared, who has been pushing for Middle East peace, for crying out loud.”

“You’ve got a whole family who have been working really hard on behalf of this country and who continue to be abused and demonized by the Democrats. It’s just really unfortunate,” she said.

She stressed the Democrats are determined to “overturn 2016 because they know what’s coming for them in 2020.”

Grisham slammed the Democrats for floating “bribery” as an impeachment charge purely because it “polled well with their voters” but then quietly dropping the charge when it was time to draft the actual articles of impeachment.

“They came up with these two sham impeachment articles, one of which in our mind doesn’t even exist: ‘obstruction of Congress.’ That just means they’re angry we didn’t participate in their sham impeachment hearings,” she said of the White House perspective on the articles.

“I think there are a lot of people who are questioning the constitutionality of it. At the end of the day, we’re excited to get to the Senate, where he will be given a fair trial. I hate to use that word, but he will be given a fair shake. Then, hopefully, we can just get on with governing for this country,” she said.

“The president continues to produce results, as you know. We’ve got USMCA coming down and NDAA – all kinds of great things happening,” she said, referring to the new North American trade deal and the National Defense Authorization Act, respectively.

“That’s what he’s really, really focused on,” she said of President Trump. “He’s traveling tonight to Michigan to speak with supporters. It’s amazing to watch him. I want your listeners to know that he’s very focused, despite what a lot of the mainstream media is saying. He’s not sitting around angry. He is continuing to work, which I think is obvious, and he’s just ready to get on with the work he has to do for this country.”

Grisham agreed with Marlow that it would be illuminating to have a proper trial with numerous Democrats and people like former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, called to testify under oath about their actions.

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) made a startling admission Tuesday when he said President Trump is about to be impeached “without the facts coming out.”
The Senate Minority Leader accidentally told the truth while crybabying in the hopes of violating 200 years of impeachment precedent during Trump’s upcoming senate trial.
Schumer confessed:
So, to engage a trial without the facts coming out is to engage in a cover-up. To conduct a trial without the facts is saying: we’re afraid, we have something to hide. To conduct a trial without relevant witnesses who haven’t been heard from, to just rehash the evidence presented in the House just doesn’t make any sense.

So here’s Schumer openly admitting the impeachment case coming from the U.S. House is one “without the facts.”

Carly Fiorina says it is ‘vital’ that Trump be impeached
December 17, 2019

Carly Fiorina, former Hewlett-Packard CEO and unsuccessful 2016 Republican presidential candidate, is no big fan of President Donald Trump, and she has made it clear that she does not appreciate his bombastic style and blunt rhetoric.

In a recent interview with CNN’s Poppy Harlow, Fiorina said it was “vital” that Trump be impeached — though she demurred on the prospect of removal —  even as she left the door open to voting for his re-election in 2020, Breitbart reported.

Fiorina: Impeachment is “vital”
Asked if President Trump should be impeached and removed from office, Fiorina replied, “I think he is going to be impeached and I think he won’t be removed from office.”

Pressed on whether he should be ousted from office, she said, “I think it is vital that he be impeached — whether removed this close to an election, I don’t know.”

“But I think the conduct is impeachable and what I regret is that the principles that are being debated in this impeachment trial — separation of powers, abuse of power, obstruction of Congress — those principles are not as immediate or intense as partisanship or people’s belief that the policies that I care about impact me personally,” she explained.

As an example of the personal aspect of things, Fiorina pointed to the “pro-life community” who’ve been consistently “disrespected” by Democrats and would likely stand strong in support of President Trump no matter what, due to his strong stance in support of an issue that is personal for them.

Principles over party
Fiorina predicted that Republicans would be unlikely to “break ranks” and turn against President Trump during an impeachment trial.

Asked if she had any sort of message for those Republicans in the House and Senate, she essentially said that they needed to place their country and their principles ahead of their careers and the party.

“Our Constitution was based on a fundamental belief that power concentrated is power abused. And we have to stand up for that principle. In the near term, it may cost. But in the long term, those principles are everything,” Fiorina said.

May support Trump in 2020
Politico reported that, in spite of their contentious relationship during the 2016 primary, Fiorina admitted to having voted for Trump in that election, largely due to her disapproval of Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton.

Furthermore, she noted that she had been both pleased and “bitterly disappointed” by certain aspects of his presidency, and she didn’t rule out potentially voting for him again in 2020, saying, “Honestly, it depends who the Democrats put up.”

It is no surprise that Carly Fiorina is not a staunch supporter of President Trump and backs the effort to impeach him. But at least she is rational enough to understand that his removal from office is unlikely and to also admit that, for all of his faults, odds are that he will still be the better choice for president over whomever the Democrats nominate in 2020.

Dershowitz: SCOTUS decision invalidates second impeachment article
December 16, 2019

House Democrats are going full steam ahead with efforts to impeach President Donald Trump, future electoral consequences be damned.

However, legal scholar Alan Dershowitz says that the Supreme Court just effectively nullified a key element of the impeachment push with its recent decision in another matter involving the president, The Hill reports.

Court’s curveball
The House Judiciary Committee passed two articles of impeachment last week, according to USA Today, with the second of those charging that Trump committed “obstruction of Congress” by choosing to fight congressional subpoenas in court instead of simply complying with them.

That argument may soon become impossible to sustain, as the Supreme Court has agreed to hear arguments on whether congressional subpoenas for Trump’s financial records must be enforced, something the president has been fighting in a separate, protracted legal battle, according to the Associated Press. During a Friday television appearance, Dershowitz laid out the implications of the court’s willingness to hear arguments in this realm.

“Look, the most important development happened today,” Dershowitz told Fox News host Sean Hannity.

He went on: “The Supreme Court of the United States absolutely pulled the rug out of part two of the impeachment referral by granting certiorari, by granting review in a case where Trump challenged a congressional subpoena, and the Supreme Court said, we are going to hear this case.

“One of them is a state case — but think of what that message is,” he continued. “It’s ‘Trump was right.’ You don’t have to comply with a subpoena of Congress unless the court tells you you have to comply.

“We don’t know how the court is going to come out,” Dershowitz conceded, “but they made it clear that is a viable issue. So that charge, that ground of impeachment should be immediately removed by the House and not sent to the Senate.”

He concluded: “There is nothing to it anymore after the Supreme Court today said they were going to review on an issue when the president challenges the subpoena power of Congress. All done, it’s over!”

Turley to Dems: “It’s your abuse of power”
Dershowitz isn’t the only one to believe that the rationale behind the second article of impeachment simply doesn’t hold water. George Washington University Law School professor Jonathan Turley holds a similar opinion, which he expressed while testifying earlier this month before Congress.

“I can’t emphasize this enough, and I’ll say it just one more time,” he told lawmakers. “If you impeach a president, if you make a ‘high crime and misdemeanor’ out of going to the courts, it is an abuse of power. It’s your abuse of power.

“You’re doing precisely what you’re criticizing the president for doing,” he went on. “We have a third branch that deals with conflicts of the other two branches… And what comes out of there and what you do with it is the very definition of legitimacy.”

President Donald Trump denounced the Democrat-led impeachment process in a strongly worded letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday.

“I write to express my strongest and most powerful protest against the partisan impeachment crusade being pursued by Democrats in the House of Representatives,” Trump wrote in his six-page letter to Pelosi.

The president argued that the impeachment process was “an unprecedented and unconstitutional abuse of power” from Democrats, criticizing the articles of impeachment for failing to match the Constitutional standard of high crimes and misdemeanors.

“You have cheapened the importance of the very ugly word, impeachment!” Trump wrote.

Trump accused Democrats of violating their oath of office and going against the Constitution. He also attacked Pelosi personally for a “false display of solemnity” during the partisan process.

Trump admitted that it was highly unlikely that Pelosi would be swayed by his letter.

“While I have no expectation that you will do so, I write this letter to you for the purpose of history and to put my thoughts on a permanent and indelible record,” Trump concluded.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) hinted in a speech on the Senate floor Tuesday morning that the Senate will move to dismiss the pending articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump after opening arguments in the expected trial.

McConnell was reacting to a proposal by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Monday that the Senate call four additional, in-person witnesses that were not called, or not available, during the House inquiry, led by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA).

But McConnell dismissed that suggestion out of hand, arguing that Schumer was trying to make “Chairman Schiff’s sloppy work more persuasive.”

McConnell accused Schumer of going straight to the news media with his proposals rather than speaking to him in person, as Senate leaders had done in the past.

He also noted that Schumer had misquoted the Constitution. The Democrat leader had claimed the Constitution gave the Senate “sole Power of Impeachment,” whereas Article I, Section 3 actually states, “The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments.”

“We don’t create impeachments over here … we judge them,” he declared.

It was the House’s role to investigate, and to build a case. “If they fail, they fail! It’s not the Senate’s job to leap into the breach to search desperately for ways to get to guilty. That would hardly be impartial justice.”

The Senate would not, he said, participate in “new fact-finding” that House Democrats were “too impatient” to pursue.

The Republican leader said he agreed with Schumer’s suggestion that the Senate follow the model used in President Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial in 1999, but accused Schumer of departing from that precedent.

In the 1999 trial, McConnell noted, here there were two procedural motions — one at the start of the trial, which allowed for a motion to dismiss; and a later one guiding the trial’s procedures and conclusion.

McConnell noted that Schumer had supported a motion to dismiss in the Clinton case. He added that Schumer had opposed the calling of live witnesses in that case.

The Majority Leader also strongly suggested that a motion to dismiss would be on Republicans’ agenda in trying the case against President Trump.

McConnell called the House effort to investigate Trump the “most rushed, least thorough, and most unfair impeachment inquiry in modern history,” anticipating that its “slapdash work product” would be “dumped” on the Senate after Wednesday’s House vote.

He said that Schumer was trying to fill in the gaps in the House Democrats’ case. “Might he — just might he be coordinating these questions with people outside the Senate?” he asked rhetorically, answering Democrats’ claims that McConnell could not be impartial in the Senate trial because he had said he would be working with the White House.

The Democrats’ case, McConnell said, did not come “anywhere near the bar for impeaching a duly elected president, let alone removing him for the first time in American history.”

“By any ordinary legal standard, what House Democrats have assembled would appear to be woefully, woefully inadequate to prove what they want to allege.”

McConnell warned that by impeaching President Trump on the grounds proposed by House Democrats, “we will invite future Houses to paralyze future Senates with frivolous impeachments at will.”

“The House should not impeach on this basis in the first place,” McConnell said. He added that he still hoped to meet with Schumer.

Some Republicans, including President Trump, have proposed calling a variety of witnesses — including Schiff, former Vice President Joe Biden, his son Hunter Biden, and the so-called “whistleblower.”

However, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has suggested dispensing with the charges swiftly and calling other witnesses as part of the ordinary oversight process.

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) claimed Tuesday afternoon to be an “impartial juror” after a reporter asked him whether he and fellow Democrats could live up to the standard they had set for Republicans.

Schumer, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), and other Democrats accused Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and other Republicans of violating their duty to act as impartial jurors during an anticipated trial for President Donald Trump in the Senate. The House of Representatives is expected to pass articles of impeachment Wednesday.

Democrats, and the media, have claimed that Republicans have already prejudged the outcome of the trial — though most Democrats have also stated their conclusions. Every Senate Democrat running for president has declared that Trump should be impeached (many of them months ago), and most have also said they would vote to remove him.

Schumer insists that McConnell allow new witnesses to be called in the Senate, accusing Republicans of a “cover-up” if they refuse. A reporter at Schumer’s press conference Tuesday in the Capitol then asked the key question:

Reporter: Can you legitimately look people in the eye and say that you are impartial?

Schumer: I am —

Reporter: Have you made up your mind that the president is guilty?

Schumer: — I am withholding any final decision until we hear all the evidence. And one of the reasons that we want these witnesses and documents is so that we can hear the full, full length and breadth of what happened.

Schumer opposes calling Hunter Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, who held a seat from 2014 until April 2019 on the board of the Ukrainian gas company, Burisma, while his father was in charge of Ukraine policy.

Senate Republican says Hunter Biden could be called to testify in impeachment trial
December 15, 2019

After weeks of testimony from various witnesses (most of which had no firsthand knowledge of wrongdoing), Democrats in the House Judiciary Committee pushed two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump through last week, and a full floor vote on them is expected in the coming days. If the articles pass — and they are expected to — a trial will be conducted in the Senate, and Democrats will have a chance to call even more witnesses.

And if they do, Republicans may just call some of their own. According to Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Senate Republicans may even call Hunter Biden, son of the former vice president and current 2020 hopeful, to testify.
Cassidy made his point clear during a Saturday interview with Fox News personality Neil Cavuto.

“If it turns out Democrats want to call a bunch of witnesses, we’ll call Hunter Biden,” the Republican senator said, according to Fox. “I mean, we can do a tit for tat.”

The Bidens and Burisma
Former Ukrainian top prosecutor Viktor Shokin has said in a sworn affidavit that he was removed from office under pressure from then-Vice President Joe Biden because he was looking into Burisma Holdings, an energy company that had been previously accused of corruption and was employing Biden’s son, Hunter.

That the then-vice president got Shokin fired isn’t in dispute, as the Democratic presidential candidate openly bragged about doing so at a Council on Foreign Relations event in January 2018.

“I looked at them and said: ‘I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money,'” Joe Biden said, recalling his threat to withhold $1 billion in American aid to Ukraine unless Shokin was replaced, according to USA Today. “Well, son of a b***h. He got fired.”

The former vice president has said that he never discussed matters concerning Burisma with his son, but a photo emerged this year that cast doubt on that claim. Published by Fox News, it shows Joe and Hunter Biden playing golf with a Burisma gas executive.

What’s more, Hunter Biden admitted talking to his father about the Ukrainian business venture in a summer interview with The New Yorker, recalling: “Dad said, ‘I hope you know what you are doing,’ and I said, ‘I do.’”

Motivated by hatred
Since Democrats’ impeachment probe has centered on allegations that Trump asked Ukraine to investigate the Bidens’ dealings with Ukraine and Burisma in what Dems have called a “quid pro quo,” Republicans previously requested that Hunter Biden appear before the House Judiciary Committee to testify. But Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) flatly refused, saying that he would not permit “sham investigations” into the Bidens, according to The Hill.

For his part, Cassidy seemed resentful over impeachment efforts.

“This is, if you will, sucking up all of the energy that could be used for positive things,” he told Cavuto, according to Fox. “Democrats seem more motivated about hatred of the president than they do about what is actually supposed to be taking place.”

Dershowitz: Supreme Court ‘pulled the rug out of part two of the impeachment referral’
December 15, 2019

The Democrat-controlled House Judiciary Committee passed two articles of impeachment on Friday morning, one alleging an “abuse of power” by President Donald Trump, and another charging him with “obstruction of Congress” over his failure to cooperate with the impeachment inquiry.

But while both articles have hardly a leg to stand on, Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz believes the second article has already been thrown out the door thanks to action taken by the Supreme Court on Friday, Breitbart reports.

“The most important development”
During an appearance Friday night with Fox News host Sean Hannity, the attorney and Fox News contributor referenced the Supreme Court’s Friday announcement that it would take up President Trump’s appeals of three separate cases involving subpoenas for his financial records, one by the Manhattan, New York’s district attorney, and two others by three Democrat-controlled House committees.

“Look, the most important development happened today,” Dershowitz said. “The Supreme Court of the United States absolutely pulled the rug out of part two of the impeachment referral by granting certiorari, by granting review in a case where Trump challenged a congressional subpoena.”

“All done. It’s over.”
According to NBC News, the Dems’ second article of impeachment, centered around the president’s alleged “obstruction of Congress,” specifically charged that Trump had unlawfully “directed the unprecedented, categorical, and indiscriminate defiance of subpoenas issued by the House of Representatives.”

But as Dershowitz noted, the mere fact that the Supreme Court agreed to review Trump’s challenges against the subpoenas makes it clear that it is not at all unlawful, but rather standard practice, for such disputes between branches of government to be handled in the courts.

“Now, we don’t know how the court is going to come out. But they made it clear that’s a viable issue,” Dershowitz said. “So that charge, that ground of impeachment, should be immediately removed by the House and not sent to the Senate.

“There’s nothing to it anymore after the Supreme Court today said you’re entitled to a review on an issue when the president challenges the subpoena power of Congress,” the professor added. “All done. It’s over.”

To be sure, there remains the possibility the court could ultimately rule against the president and order the release of his tax returns — which could pose problems for Trump as he seeks re-election — but in terms of the Democrats’ ridiculous notion that resisting congressional subpoenas constitutes an impeachable offense, it seems the president has nothing to worry about.

How Should the Senate Deal with an Unconstitutional Impeachment by the House?
by Alan M. Dershowitz  •  December 11, 2019 at 2:00 pm

Facebook Twitter WhatsApp Telegram Send Print
These two grounds [of impeachment] — abuse of power and obstruction of congress — are not among the criteria specified for impeachment. Neither one is a high crime and misdemeanor. Neither is mentioned in the constitution. Both are the sort of vague, open-ended criteria rejected by the framers. They were rejected precisely to avoid the situation in which our nation currently finds itself.

So, what options would the senate have if the House voted to impeach on two unconstitutional grounds? Would it be required to conduct a trial based on "void" articles of impeachment? Could it simply refuse to consider unconstitutional articles? Could the president's lawyer make a motion to the Chief Justice — who presides over the trial of an impeached president — to dismiss the articles of impeachment on constitutional grounds?

Regardless of the outcome, the damage will have been done by the House majority that will have abused its power by weaponizing the House's authority over impeachment for partisan purposes — exactly as Hamilton feared.

Pictured: Speaker of the House Rep. Nancy Pelosi speaks on December 10, 2019 in Washington, DC at a news conference, in which House Democrats announced two articles for the next steps in the House impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump. (Photo by Alex Wong/Getty Images)
If the House of Representatives were to impeach President Trump on the two grounds now before it, the senate would be presented with a constitutional dilemma. These two grounds— abuse of power and obstruction of Congress— are not among the criteria specified for impeachment. Neither one is a high crime and misdemeanor. Neither is mentioned in the constitution. Both are the sort of vague, open-ended criteria rejected by the framers. They were rejected precisely to avoid the situation in which our nation currently finds itself. Abuse of power can be charged against virtually every controversial president by the opposing party. And obstruction of Congress — whatever else it may mean — cannot extend to a president invoking privileges and then leave it to the courts to referee conflicts between the legislative and executive branches.

Former Obama official floats idea of impeaching Trump again if Senate acquits
December 9, 2019
As it becomes clearer that President Trump, if impeached by the House, will most definitely be acquitted by the Senate, Democrats are beginning to panic.

Democrats have a cash crunch going on right now. It’s tough to raise money when the only thing you stand for is hating Trump. But right now they need impeachment to excite their base and raise money.

So as the date of Trump’s acquittal draws near, it’s time to find another gimmick that they can use to fool their voters into giving them money.

And now, they think they’ve found it: impeachment.

That’s right — Dems think they should just impeach Trump over and over again so that they can keep raising money. Of course, they pretend like it’s so they can get a big Senate majority in 2020 and remove him then.
..
This is ludicrous for many reasons. The biggest reason? There is no way that Trump will win the presidency but lose the Senate by huge numbers. It’s just not possible.

The idea that you’re going to remove a dully elected president days after he’s been re-elected is horribly dangerous, and it shows why Democrats can not be allowed anywhere near power.

Green, a longtime proponent of President Trump’s impeachment, blasted his own party’s impeachment inquiry over its lack of diversity in witnesses, citing the four white legal scholars testifying before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, three of whom were chosen by Democrats:
“It hurts my heart, Mr. Speaker, to see the Judiciary Committee hearing experts on the topic of impeachment …  hearing experts, Mr. Speaker, and not one person of color among the experts,” Green said on the House floor on Wednesday:

“What subliminal message are we sending to the world when we have experts but not one person of color? Are we saying that there are no people of color who are experts on this topic of impeachment?” he asked, repeatedly asking what message it sends.
Green continued, accusing the Republican Party of ignoring minorities and the Democrat Party of taking them for granted.
“Mr. Speaker, I refuse to be ignored and taken for granted. I came here to represent the people who are ignored and taken for granted,” he continued.

“Not one person of color among the constitutional scholars. It seems that there’s a desire among some to have the output of people of color without input from the people of color,” he added, calling for a “balance as it relates to all aspects of society, and that would include people of color.”

Green argued that it is not a bipartisan issue. Rather, it is about “fairness” and “whether or not we have matured to the point in this country where we’re going to treat all people equally.”

“It’s about whether we have metamorphosed to a point where we will not allow committees to have persons appear without considering the diversity and richness of that diversity within this country,” he said.
“I support people of color. I do so not because I am a person of color. I do so because I believe that in this country the words of the Pledge of Allegiance are important, that we should have liberty and justice for all,” he concluded:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) held a closed-door caucus on Wednesday, kicking out staffers and requiring members to check their phones in order to have a frank discussion on the impeachment inquiry. While she did not offer many details upon her emergence from the meeting – only that it was “very prayerful” – reports suggest that she instructed members to be “disciplined” in their messages and cognizant of the various challenges each of them face in their individual districts:

House Dem caucus impeachment meeting being held now is a bit unusual. The usual door where members arrive is closed, forcing members to walk around to a different entrance. This is being done presumably to prevent any reporters from seeing inside the usual door where we camp out.

They’ve closed off a side hallway to reporters. And members have been encouraged not to bring their phones inside.
And staff is not allowed, as they usually are
Shows the sensitivity of the discussion

In private caucus meeting, Pelosi asks Dems: “Are you ready?” Dems respond by yelling out: They are
The question was in essence, multiple sources told me, are you ready to keep moving forward on impeachment? And the caucus indicated they are.

Several sources said that Pelosi told her colleagues to let the process work, but did not provide a timeline on impeachment. She also encouraged her colleagues to be disciplined in messages. And said everyone’s district is different so members need to respect that, per sources
