the answer to the question 'what should a christian's social life be like?' isnt at all complicated.
wherever we go whatever we do whoever we meet we should be in a position for Jesus to be in the group nd neither He nor we should feel embarrassed.
The question ' what is a christians social life like?' is often one where if Jesus turned up we would both be embarrassed!

I suppose the answer to this is in another question, since we are Christians we need to take our lead from our master - Jesus.
so.... What was Jesus' social life like?

I agree Missy.
Several years ago now when I was living in the South East there was this dynamic christian young man, he must have been in his mid-late 20's. He came from a background where if it was ungodly it had happened, but nothing really bad. So along the lines of drugs, drink, tattoos, swearing etc not criminal. His language was what measured his relationship with God most. It did not as some may assume clean up overnight. He used to swear every other word, and when he prayed it was the same, this was his method of communicatin, and as he communicated with God he was real and alive and passionate, so there was a lot of shouted swear words used to glorify God. Over a period of several months though They stopped being a part of his vocabulary until they disappeared altogteher.
He maintained old friendships, but with his new sold-out for Jesus attitude. It was incredible. I guess it goes to show that God can ovrecome all things, and lifestyle is a part of us which God is centre of so it adapts so that all we do is godly, be it in the pub watching the football with your mates or in the church choir.
I frequently used to go to the pub with friends and share the environment with them, I choose to be godly there and not get drunk or inappropriate in my language and dress code, but I am accessible, and i have had some incredible christian discussions/debates in pubs and clubs in the past - often with complete strangers, but sometimes with the friends i turn up there with. My friend used to take me to the local social club behind where i live, (her partner is a member there) and she would introduce me to all her friends as 'the Sunday school teacher' and I would regain my name a few hours or days later when I saw them again and introduced myself properly. LOL
God bless

Praise the Lord, Bro/ sis in Christ,
Just been reading the post should we have social life like the non believers, i think we should be able to but it would be different then the non believers.
because it would be holy for God called us to be holy, we can have fun we dont have to get drunk and tell dirty jokes swear and fight like the secular world does.
( Let not filthy communication come fromour mouths as concerning saints)
Sorry i cant find the scripture
(2 Corinthians 6:17 Come out from amoung them and be ye separate)
And (Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker strong drink is raging and whosoever is decieved is not wise.)
I think the closer you get to jesus, you start to drop off the old habits as Paul says i die daily, but not everything, some times you just have to pray to get the thing removed from your life.
when i got saved i was struggling with smoking i kept tring and failing, but i prayed every time i felt the urge to lite up, 2 weeks after i was baptized i stopped ,
thank God. God is awesome iam is biggest fan i support Jesus, because he supports me, not the boys kicking the bag of wind around the pitch. (My view im not condeming you if you like footie. love Bro Wayne

Oh that is kinda of tough. I don't believe that going to the pub is a good thing. I am a loaner though so aside from going to church I really don't go anywhere except to do normal mom errands. I would think though that as long as you are not sinning it should not be a real big deal

Thanks, interesting thoughts.
I would think that as you grow as a christian old desires would start to die, Im not saying temptation will go, it won't. But I do think that you would want to do other stuff.

doesnt scripture tell us about getting drunk etc. im not saying u cant have a few drinks, even Jesus turned water into wine (his first miricle). i personally have given up on clubbing coz i feel id go back to worldly ways and tend to go to the pub for a quiet drink with hubby or lunch with hubby and kids now and again. i feel blessed coz i feel the Lord has taken the whole desire for drinking away. love andrea xxx

Must our social lives change when and if we become born again? Would this happen naturally or must we work at it?
I should hope so. We become members of a huge new family called 'the church'. And hopefully we socialise with them. However, l do not think that our old social friends need to be cut off, unless of course they are a very negative influence in our lives. This may be true if they are gangsters or drug addicts and they want us to carry on in the same life style. But l think this is probably rare.
In general a lot of christians tend to have very few or no non-christian friends and l think this is a mistake.

Nope. We are in the world, but not of it.
We are supposed to set with our hands folded, head bowed, Big bible open in front of us, reverential look on our faces (Sort of a distant sad look),always smiling,(Pretty hard to do and still have sad look as well).

Should we have a social life like non-christians? Should be go to the pub to watch the footie? Let our kids go clubbing at weekends? Allow them to drink alcohol etc.
Must our social lives change when and if we become born again? Would this happen naturally or must we work at it?
What do you think?
