The US State Department denied a document revealing Iran’s ability to go nuclear sooner than originally understood was secret, even though the public was not made aware of its existence.

The US State Department has denied the existence of a secret document in the Iranian nuclear deal that outlines how Iran would be able to produce a nuclear weapon more quickly by ramping up its uranium enrichment after the year 2027.

“There is no secret document or secret deal,” US State Department Deputy Spokesman Mark Toner said.

Instead, Toner said the document “appears to be Iran’s long-term enrichment R&D plan that was submitted by Iran to the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) as part of its initial Addition Protocol declaration.”

Toner added that the Iran deal “explicitly refers to this document,” and that its substance was made available to the US Congress “on multiple occasions” before and after the deal.

On Monday, The Associated Press obtained a document which was the only part of the nuclear deal that was not made public last year. The document outlines how key restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program will ease in slightly more than a decade, which will cut the time Tehran needs to produce a nuclear weapon from a year to six months.

The document says that as of January 2027 — a date which will mark 11 years after the implementation early this year of the deal, reached last July between Tehran and world powers — Iran will start replacing its mainstay centrifuges with thousands of advanced machines.

Centrifuges churn out uranium to levels that can range from use as reactor fuel and for medical and research purposes to much higher levels for the core of a nuclear warhead. From year 11 to 13, says the document, Iran will install centrifuges up to five times as efficient as the 5,060 machines it is now restricted to using.

Netanyahu: Hezbollah will face ‘iron fist’ if it attacks

Speaking at a ceremony marking ten years since the 2006 war against Hezbollah, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Hezbollah, or any other terror organization for that matter, against attacking Israel.

Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that the Hezbollah Lebanese terror group will face an “iron fist” if it attacks Israel again.

Netanyahu said Israel’s month-long 2006 summer war with Hezbollah was justified to protect Israel from a radical Islamic threat on its doorstep.

He spoke at a ceremony on Tuesday marking 10 years since the war with the Iran-backed group.

He stated that anyone who dares attack Israel again would face a “forceful response.”

Israel says Hezbollah’s improved missile arsenal can now strike virtually anywhere in the country, but that the war re-established Israeli deterrence and provided a decade of quiet.

Hezbollah was in possession of roughly 7,000 rockets in 2006, but the Lebanese terror group now has more than 120,000 missiles aimed at Israeli cities, hidden under civilian homes thereby using Lebanese citizens as human shields.

Speaking in April, Maj. Gen. Yair Golan, Israel’s deputy chief of staff, told foreign journalists that Hezbollah has developed capabilities that present “unprecedented” threats to Israel, but  issued a stern warning to the terror group that any future attack by Hezbollah on Israel will unleash “devastating” damage on Lebanon.

Barley seeds, dated to 6,000 years ago, have become the oldest plant genome to be sequenced, an international team of researchers announced in a journal article published Monday. Analysis of the 6,000-year-old cereals supports the hypothesis that the key crop was domesticated thousands of years ago in the Jordan Valley.

A team of scientists from Israel, Germany, the United Kingdom and the US employed a wide array of disciplines — archaeology, archaeobotany and genetics — to study the material found in the Yoram Cave. The findings were released in the academic journal Nature Genetics.

The Chalcolithic kernels were discovered in a cavern overlooking the Dead Sea on the southern end of Masada, a mountaintop better known for Jewish rebels’ last stand against the Roman Empire in the first century CE.

The arid climate and precipitous cliff left the grains preserved for millennia. Ehud Weiss of Bar-Ilan University, one of the heads of the study, told The Times of Israel that whereas most ancient kernels are found charred and useless for DNA study, those excavated from the cave on Masada by a Hebrew University team “looked almost alive, almost fresh.”

Their immaculate preservation allowed scientists to “read the DNA from these seeds” and determine that they were domesticated locally, he said.

Weiss said that the barley found at Masada could only have been grown at least 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the remote mesa. Hebrew University archaeologist Uri Davidovitch posited that the people who brought it to the cave may have fled some unknown catastrophe and sought refuge in the desert, just like the mountaintop’s Jewish inhabitants thousands of years later.

Radiocarbon dating determined the seeds were 6,000 years old, grown several millennia after humans residing in the Fertile Crescent first domesticated grains such as barley and wheat around 10,000 years ago.

Until now, corn was the only ancient grain whose genetic fingerprint was fully mapped out. Barley’s genome was only studied through modern samples.

The seeds found in at Masada are “much closer to the time and place of domestication,” Weiss said. They are a “time capsule” that gives scientists a shortcut around 6,000 years of genetic mutation and offers insight into what the ancients ate.

Sequencing prehistoric barley is “just the beginning of a new and exciting line of research,” Verena Schuenemann of Tubingen University, one of the heads of the study, said.

Examination of the barley grains’ genome found they are significantly different from wild varieties, but similar to modern cultivars still grown in the region. The finding bolsters the hypothesis that barley was domesticated in the Jordan Valley, researchers said.

Last year a study by researchers from Tel Aviv University, Harvard University and Bar Ilan found cultivated plants in the Galilee dating back 23,000 years, pushing back the origins of domesticated crops at least 11,000 years.

A study published in 2015 said genetic analysis of barley varieties pointed to domestication of the grain occurring at several points across the Mideast in prehistory.

“DNA-analysis of archaeological remains of prehistoric plants will provide us with novel insights into the origin, domestication and spread of crop plants,” Schuenemann said in a statement.

In response to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) pending vote to deny any Jewish connection to the Temple Mount, the Nascent Sanhedrin issued a declaration this week denouncing the international body’s plans, and strongly emphasized that the current wave of global terror is a direct result of UNESCO’s very unholy actions.

“The Jewish right to the Temple Mount was established in the Bible, and should therefore be recognized by Christianity and Islam,” wrote the Sanhedrin. “In fact, the Jewish claim to Jerusalem is as essential to those religions as it is to Judaism. This Biblical connection between the Jews and Jerusalem led to the building of the First Temple by King Solomon, which strengthened our claim to Jerusalem even more.”

A new bill which would lead to Israel annexing the city of Ma’ale Adumim was presented on Monday to Yuli Edelstein (Likud), the Speaker of the Knesset.
Introduced by the Land of Israel lobby, headed by MKs Yoav Kish (Likud) and Betzalel Smotrich (Jewish Home), the bill, entitled states that “the laws and administrative principles of the State of Israel will be applied in the territory of Ma’ale Adumim”.

The MiniSters and MKs also signed the “sovereignty declaration” for Ma’ale Adumim, which reads “We hereby declare our support for the ‘Israeli Ma’ale Adumim’ plan, our identification with the call ‘The time has come for sovereignty in Ma’ale Adumim’, and our commitment to act to bring the plan to apply Israeli sovereignty to Ma’ale Adumim to fruition, because it is the correct and Israeli step to take.”

Amid the one year anniversary since the signing of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) between Iran and the P5+1 powers, US President Barack Obama on Thursday praised the controversial deal, claiming its outcomes prove the agreement an “unmitigated success”.
The accord “succeeded in rolling back Iran’s nuclear program,” explained President Obama.
“All of Iran’s pathways to a nuclear weapon remain closed, and Iran’s breakout time [the time required to make a nuclear weapon, given present assets] has been extended from two to three months to about a year,” Obama elaborated. “The United States and our negotiating partners have also fully implemented our commitments to lift nuclear-related sanctions, and we will continue to uphold our commitments as long as Iran continues to abide by the deal.”
“We still have serious differences with Iran, but the United States, our partners, and the world are more secure” because of the agreement, the president emphasized.

Israeli and Jewish leaders condemned the bloody Bastille Day terror attack in Nice, France on Thursday that has left at least 84 people dead.
“Israel strongly condemns the terrible terror attack. Israelis stand united with the French people,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement.
“Israel is willing to help the French government fight this evil until it is defeated,” he added.
Israeli President Reuven Rivlin wrote a letter to his counterpart French President Francois Hollande where he urged a united front against terrorism.

Tragedy Stikes Northern Border: 2 IDF Soldiers Killed in Grenade Explosion

A lone soldier from the United States, was killed on the Syrian border on Sunday morning when a hand grenade went off during a routine patrol. A Druze soldier was also killed in the blast, while three other soldiers were wounded in the incident, one of them seriously. Army officials are investigating whether the grenade was detonated accidentally or deliberately.

According to a senior IDF source, an IDF David light armored vehicle, carrying both soldiers and a commander from the 601 battalion, arrived at an army post near the town of Majdal Shams on Mount Hermon at approximately 7 A.M. after returning from a patrol in a military jeep. The soldiers, from the IDF’s Combat Engineering Brigade, were in the area to secure a border road.

The jeep reportedly came to stop about a meter away from the position’s concrete wall. “At this stage, a conversation began, and the driver exited the vehicle, holding the grenade,” the source said.

After exiting the vehicle, the driver walked towards the front, still holding the grenade. The lone soldier who was part of the checkpoint personnel, stood between the jeep and the wall. Suddenly, the hand grenade went off, killing both the lone soldier and the driver instantly.

“We do not understand the circumstances of this event yet,” the source continued. “The commander of the David vehicle then opened his door. That was when the blast occurred.”

An IDF Spokesperson’s Unit official identified the soldier who was guarding the post as Sergeant Shlomo Zalman Rindenow, 20, from New Jersey. Rindenow came to Israel on his own two years ago and did volunteer work raising and training rescue dogs in the community of Tapuah in Samaria. He later enlisted in the army, following in the footsteps of his five brothers, who served as combat soldiers.

Rindenow’s friends described him as a “handsome young man who always had a shy smile on his face, an erudite person who loved animals and people.” He is survived by his parents and eight siblings.

The jeep driver was identified as Staff Sgt. Hussam Tafesh, 24, a Druze reserve soldier from the village of Beit Jann. Tafish’s father told Army Radio that his son had replaced a friend as the driver, and was not supposed to take part in operational activity.

Tafesh is the grandson of Sheikh Abu-Mansour Hassan Tafesh, who served for many years as the caretaker of Nabi Shu’ayb, an important Druze and Muslim shrine near Tiberias. Tafesh’s family is widely known in Beit Jann, and the whole village mourned him on Sunday. He is survived by his parents and five siblings.

“This is a grave and difficult incident,” the source said.
Three other soldiers, including the patrol commander, were wounded in the incident. The patrol commander was evacuated by helicopter to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, where he was listed in serious condition. The other two, who were lightly wounded by the shockwave, were taken there as well.

Hezbollah Drone Successfully Photographs IDF Operations in Golan Heights

A drone from Syria crossed the border into the Israel’s Golan Heights on Sunday, setting off alarms and drawing an immediate response from the IDF.

Upon entering Israeli airspace, the drone caused Red Alert sirens to sound, instigating rumors among local residents that a rocket had been fired at the communities in the Golan. The IDF responded to the potential threat by firing a Patriot Missile, which missed its target. The IDF then launched an additional Patriot, which also missed. The Israeli Air Force (IAF) then attempted to bring down the drone by launching an air-to-air missile, but that too proved ineffective.
Fortunately the drone was discovered to be unarmed, but the IDF did not allow themselves to become complacent.

“The IDF will not tolerate a breach of the State of Israel’s sovereignty,” the army said after the incident.

The IDF stated it did not know the origin or the mission of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), but believes it was a Russian-made drone, possibly sent by Hezbollah forces aiding Syrian President Bashar Assad in his civil war.

Anis al-Naqqash, a political analyst based in Lebanon and known for being a Lebanese guerrilla fighter, tweeted on Sunday that the drone had indeed been sent by Hezbollah. According to al-Naqqash, its mission was to photograph IDF maneuvers in the Golan, and that it was recalled safely after Israel tried to shoot it down.

Local residents were aware of unusual IDF activity in the sky above them. Shimshon Cook, a new immigrant from Texas, told Breaking Israel News that he wasn’t aware anything had happened.

“We happened to be driving in that direction, and saw some smoke in the sky. We didn’t even hear it. We didn’t know anything had happened until we got home and heard it on the news.”

Joshua Jacobs, also an immigrant from Texas, was equally unperturbed. “I was inside, and heard some booms. Then the jets flew overhead. I didn’t even go outside to look.”

Myra Sonick Kutscher explained the lackadaisical response of the residents. “I’ve been living here for 40 years. You get used to the booms, the strange puffs of smoke or clouds.The only time I notice it is on Shabbat (the Sabbath).”

A 14-year-old Israeli girl who had been hiking in the area at the time of the event was lightly injured by falling shrapnel from the Patriot Missiles.

Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel has been named as the terrorist responsible for the attack in Nice France last Thursday that killed 84 and wounded more than 200. Bouhel drove a truck down a promenade packed with Bastille day revelers, shooting from the window of the vehicle while he zigzagged to hit as many people as possible.

The SITE Group, which monitors extremist activity, cited Amaq news agency, affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS), on Saturday, stating the terror group took responsibility for the attack, saying it,“was carried out by one of the soldiers of the Islamic State, and the operation was done in response to calls to target nations of coalition states that are fighting the Islamic State.”

Bouhlel, a Muslim, was born in Tunisia but had French citizenship and live in Nice. He reportedly had a history of serious psychological problems and was known to police due to allegations of threats, violence and thefts over the past six years. He was given a suspended six-month prison sentence this year after being convicted of violence with a weapon.


Bernard Cazeneuve, France’s Interior Minister, said Bouhlel, “appears to have become radicalized very quickly”.

“This is a new type of attack,” Cazeneuve said. “We are now confronted with individuals that are sensitive to the message of ISIS and are committed to extremely violent actions without necessarily being trained by them.”


Bouhel was reportedly radicalized in a mosque he began attending in April. Police checked his telephone records and noted that Bouhlel spoke with individuals they believed were ssociated with radical Islamic organizations.

French police have arrested five people in connection with the attack, including Bouhlel’s wife. Police also stated that Bouhlel transferred large sums of money to relatives in Tunisia.

Israel on Thursday was outraged to learn that the U.N.’s heritage body was planning to adopt a resolution declaring the Temple Mount sacred to “Muslims only.”

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) 21-member World Heritage Committee is set to vote on the resolution, a joint Palestinian-Jordanian initiative, during its annual meeting in Istanbul, which began on Sunday and runs through next week. The resolution calls for a return to the “historic status quo” on the Temple Mount, which it sees as favoring Muslims.

In June, UNESCO adopted a resolution deciding to refer to the holy Jerusalem site only by the name of the Muslim mosque on its grounds—Al-Aqsa—in all official documents. The current resolution is far more radical, and to Israel’s surprise, it has received the European Union’s blessing

There is Nothing More Ramadan-y Than Murder

Muslims, we are told, are shocked and appalled by the Jihadist terror attacks during Ramadan. Ramadan, we are incessantly lectured, is a time of fasting and prayer. Not a time for murder.

Islamic violence during Ramadan is as shocking as rain falling on Seattle.

The Religion of Peace’s current Ramadan Bombathon score is up to 1723. Last year it approached 3,000. In 2014, it didn’t even hit 2,400. In 2013, it was a mere 1,651. So Islamic violence during Ramadan has clearly gotten worse, but when you’re massacring over a thousand people, doubling the total doesn’t count as shocking. It’s certainly appalling, but not to Muslims who worship Mohammed’s legacy.

And Mohammed slaughtered non-Muslims during Ramadan.

The practice to avoid fighting during Ramadan actually dates back to the pre-Islamic Arabs whom Mohammed either slaughtered or forced to convert. This practice may have been Christian in origin. Ramadan is often viewed as a Muslim appropriation of Lent. The Truce and Peace of God was meant to restrain fighting during the season of Lent. While they postdate Mohammed, so does Islamic scripture.

Whatever the origin however, it was Muslims who exploited the sacred months of other religions to make war upon them. That is still how Ramadan continues to be practiced by Muslims.

Mohammed had a shortage of new ideas, but a great appetite for slaughter. The Battle of Badr began when a group of Mohammed’s caravan robbers attacked a non-Muslim caravan during the “sacred months” that his Muslim followers had appropriated.

BIN-OpEd-Experts-300x250(1)By the time it ended, Ramadan had been covered in blood as, in much the same style as ISIS, Mohammed’s gang of Jihadists butchered and beheaded the men who fell into their hands.

Like most illiterates, Mohammed harbored a special hatred for poets and had one prisoner who had written poetry mocking him, beheaded. Typical scenes from the aftermath of the battle were of the same character that we have seen in ISIS videos.

“Then I cut off his head and brought it to the apostle saying, ‘This is the head of the enemy of Allah, Abu Jahl.’… I threw his head before the apostle and he gave thanks to Allah.”

The bodies of the dead killed during this “sacred” time were piled into a well and mocked by Mohammed. If massacring non-Muslims during Ramadan is radical or extremist behavior, then the founder of Islam was a radical extremist.

The Battle of Badr led to Mohammed’s ethnic cleansing of the Jews, a racist practice that manifests itself to this day with Muslim terrorist attacks against Israel. One of the pivotal Islamic wars during Ramadan was the Yom Kippur War which the Islamic armies, with typical contempt for non-Muslim holidays and veneration for their own, scheduled an attack for the holiest day in the Jewish calendar and which they named Operation Badr. They refer to the war as the Ramadan War.

The beginning of the Muslim conquest of Hispania began during Ramadan. The invading raiders were exhorted with promises of the “ravishingly beautiful Greek maidens” they would have. The latest Islamic violence is part of a theological tradition. It is not shocking to anyone familiar with the history of Islam.

That is why Muslim routinely spikes during Ramadan.

We are also told that Muslims are particularly appalled by the attack near the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.

What sort of Muslims would target their own holy places? Well the Saudis for one.

Wahhabism made a special practice of destroying assorted Islamic shrines and burial places. It’s a practice that the Saudis continue to engage in to this day. When ISIS and other Al Qaeda spinoff groups target shrines, they’re following the practice of our moderate Saudi allies.

The Prophet’s Mosque had originally been targeted by the Wahhabis who seized its gold and jewelry. They didn’t demolish it and the Saudis expanded it, but the attack plays off Islamic practices aggressively implemented by the Saudis. The Saudis aren’t the victims of the attack. They inspired it.

ISIS is following in the footsteps of Mohammed, but more directly it has been recreating some of the old atrocities of Wahhabism. It’s another case of the revolution devouring its own children.

The media breathlessly misrepresents Islamic violence as unprecedented, shocking and remarkable. It’s nothing of the kind. Ramadan massacres date back to the early days of the Islamic religion. ISIS and Al Qaeda did not invent a “month of conquest”. Islam did.

The Ramadan massacres, whether of a gay bar in Orlando or a bakery in Bangladesh where the Muslim terrorists separated Muslims from non-Muslims and made the staff prepare a meal so they could eat before the Ramadan fast, were not un-Islamic. They were classically Islam.

The simple truth about Islam is that it was born in sin. And it has never left it behind.

Islamic reforms only make it more violent. Wahhabism is a typical example of what reforming Islam to align with its original values results in. ISIS is an even better example.

Mohammed’s hypocritical Ramadan violence was justified as always by a convenient revelation from Allah, which conceded that fighting during the “sacred month” was a great sin, but not following Mohammed’s patron deity was an even greater sin.

Those Muslims who might entertain any doubts about going to war in the “sacred month” were told that, “Fighting has been enjoined upon you while it is hateful to you. But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not.”

That motto still holds up today.

Islam is not just a religion of violence, but of expedience. Anything and everything can be justified by the need to achieve Islamic goals through violence. This mindset ends up killing quite a few Muslims, but that does not make it un-Islamic. Rather it’s the violence inherent in Islam’s worship of force.

Every teaching, value and practice appropriated by Islam, including elementary moral codes, is expendable when it comes to the opportunity to kill non-Muslims and achieve the triumph of Islam.

Ramadan violence today has its origins in Mohammed’s embrace of expedient violence. His followers today, whether in ISIS, Al Qaeda, Hamas, Boko Haram or any one of a legion of Islamic terror groups will commit any atrocity, breaks oaths and violate the supposed standards of Islam to win.

And yet one cannot call this un-Islamic because these are the values of the Koran, Mohammed and Islam.

Islam contains both exceptional and unexceptional content. The unexceptional content is borrowed from Judaism and Christianity, from assorted pre-Islamic religions and practices in the region. These are the values and ideas often described as “Islamic” by media apologists. But unexceptional Islamic content is widespread. Its use by Islam makes it appear to be like every other religion.

Islam’s exceptional content is simpler and purer. Its fundamental mission is the expansion of Islam. It is exceptional not in its sophistication or complexity, but in its utter amorality. Mohammed’s embrace of violence during the “sacred month” is an example of how Islam’s violent exceptionalism trumps its unexceptional borrowed content.

Islam will preach charity, love and brotherhood. And then it will toss them all overboard in an instant when there is something strategic to be gained.

That is the true lesson of Ramadan.

Shameful Christian History

All who claim to be Christians but are actively engaged in anti-Israel, anti-Semitic campaigns such as Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions will suffer the wrath of the Almighty.
The Bible talks much about self-examination and is filled from cover to cover with lessons of morality, honor, integrity and values. Christian history as it relates to Israel and the Jewish people is not one of which those who claim the name of Christ ought to be proud. In fact, it is cause for us to hang our heads in shame and disgrace. Time and again when the people which God Himself calls the ‘Apple of His eye’ needed us – needed anyone – to come to their rescue, we turned our backs and closed our eyes. As a result, the lives of six million Jews and others were brutally snuffed out in the most horrible and agonizing ways imaginable and the atmosphere is ripe for it to happen again. As Christians we have an obligation to stand up for the weak and speak out for those who are being marginalized, persecuted and slaughtered because of race or religion yet our silence is deafening as people around the world are suffering and dying in Syria and elsewhere. The Good News is not so good if we fail to express our faith to the world not only in word but, more importantly, in deed even if it means there is a personal price to pay. God will honor us if we honor Him – in word, yes, but, more importantly, in deed. As my mother always said, “Actions speak louder than words.”
Followers of Christ are called Christians. As His disciples, we are to follow His teachings and reflect His love to the “world” which means in our homes, in our businesses, in our churches and in the world beyond. The manner and fashion in which we conduct our lives matters. Are we fair and honest in all we do and say? Do we conduct our business affairs with diligence and integrity? Do we put the best interest of others above our own desires? Do we tell the truth and take responsibility for our decisions and actions even if there is personal cost involved? God knows the beginning from the end and there is nothing we can hide from Him which will not be revealed.

God’s Word makes it abundantly clear as to what is acceptable and what is not. The Bible clearly states that the Jews are His chosen people and Israel is His special land deeded to the Jews in an everlasting covenant. Those who would come against the Jews simply because they are Jews will suffer the wrath of God who likens these precious yet peculiar people to being the ‘apple of His eye.’

Almost daily there are news reports of Israel being condemned on the world stage for one contrived grievance or another. God chose Israel and the Jews to be the recorders and keepers of His Word to pass it down from generation to generation. If it weren’t for the Jews, there would be no Christianity and the Bible clearly warns that it is not the “branch which bears the root, but the root thee.” If we believe God’s Word is true from cover to cover, then as Christians have a duty to stand with Israel and the Jews because they are the root. All who claim to be Christians but are actively engaged in anti-Israel, anti-Semitic campaigns such as Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions will suffer the wrath of the Almighty.

As Christians, we have been given another chance to stand with our Jewish brothers and sisters. While we’ve failed miserably in the past, it’s not too late to make a change. We should take it as a personal affront when the world unfairly and unjustly condemns Israel for taking necessary protective action to defend her borders and her people from aggression and terrorism. We should stand against those who engage in BDS campaigns claiming they are “helping” the Palestinians by punishing Israel. This is an outright lie. BDS is nothing but an anti-Semitic effort to promote an anti-Israel agenda. Just ask any Palestinian who is gainfully employed by an Israeli company located on the “other” side of the so-called “Green Line.” Does it help them feed their families or pay their mortgages when business is taken away thus forcing work hours to be cut or eliminated? The time for sitting on the sidelines is over. It’s time for Christians to join in the game of “The World versus Israel.” Going forward, Christians must determine what we want our legacy to be and for this we must ask ourselves whose side we are on. Are we in line with God’s Word and therefore standing with Israel or are we on the side of the world which is clearly against Israel and the Jews? Those churches or universities with which we are affiliated, are they investing in Israel or divesting? How about your pension fund? Is it divesting from Israel? Remember, God will not be mocked. Just as those who bless Israel will be blessed, so those who curse Israel will be cursed. As we do unto Israel, so it will be done unto us.

WATCH] Truck Barrels Through Nice
Killing 84, Wounding 100
“Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint; preserve my life from the terror of the enemy. Hide me from the council of evil-doers; from the tumult of the workers of iniquity.” (Psalms 64:2-3) 
At least 84 people were killed and over 100 injured when a truck plowed into crowds at a Bastille Day celebration in Nice, France on Thursday evening. Driving down the promenade in what was clearly an intentional terror attack, the terrorist ziggzagged to hit more people while shooting from the vehicle. The terrorist got out of his truck with the intent to continue his killing spree, at which point police were able to shot and kill him.

Few details about the attacker have been released to the public. The Nice Matin newspaper reported early Friday that the ID card of a 31-year-old Nice resident with dual French/Tunisian citizenship (Tunisian origin) was found at the scene and presumed to belong to the attacker. Officials have not confirmed this. Though the motives for the attack are still unknown, there have been reports the attacker shouted, “Allahu Akhbar”, before being shot dead by police.

The truck was reportedly loaded with additional weapons, an inactive grenade, and explosives, in preparation for a larger attack. The attacker drove for almost 1.5 miles (two kilometers) at an estimated 30 miles per hour.  There were reports of parents throwing their children over barricades and fences to save them from the truck, as panic-stricken crowds surged to get out of the way.

French President Francois Hollande did not hesitate to label it a terror attack and called an emergency meeting of the Interior Ministry in Paris. President Hollande said he would request a three-month extension of the state of emergency declared after terrorist attacks in and around Paris in November. It had been scheduled to expire on July 26. Terror attacks by Islamists in and around Paris have killed 147 people in the past year.

US President Barack Obama released a statement, in which he, “condemned in the strongest terms what appears to be a horrific terrorist attack in Nice, France.”

BIN Exclusive: Priestly Blessing Takes Place on Temple Mount, Under Muslims’ Watchful Eyes [VIDEO]

Amihai Ariel, the father of Hallel Ariel, a 13-year-old Israeli girl who was brutally murdered on June 30, held a memorial ceremony for her on Tuesday on the Temple Mount. In an unmitigated act of bravery, he defied the Muslim religious authority and performed a powerful Temple ritual, right under their watchful eyes.

A group of 50 close friends and family surrounded Amihai, and his wife Rina, as they prepared to enter the VIP entrance to the Temple Mount compound, accompanied by Israeli police. Before ascending, Amihai Ariel blew a silver trumpet created to be used in the Third Temple. He also blew a shofar (ram’s horn), of the kind used in the Temple service.

Guards from the Waqf, the Muslim religious authority, joined the Ariels and the 200 others who were with them in order to ensure that the Jewish visitors adhered to all the specified conditions for non-Muslims at the site. These restrictions include a prohibition against all non-Muslim prayer, including any motions that could resemble praying or speaking to God.

Upon arriving at the exact location where the Kohanim, Jews of the priestly caste, used to stand and give the special blessing over the people, the group halted. Amihai Ariel is a Kohen, and the spot has a special significance for him. While bored Waqf guards and Israeli police looked on, Amihai gave a short lesson on what used to occur at that spot, but his explanation contained a hidden message.

“He is the one who gives us this blessing,” Amihai explained. “He blesses, and he will bless you. He guards and he will also guard you. He will protect this blessing, and the entire nation that stands here at Zion, and will be blessed by the entire world. He will rise up with us. His face will shine upon you, and he will be gracious unto you, he will give you grace. And not only that, he will choose you. The Lord will lift up His face unto you and give you peace. He will choose you so that Israel will be the one to spread his  light in the world, spread the peace and the completeness. That is the truth, with no lies. Peace and completeness to us, from here, and out to the entire world.”

A guest then explained, “At this point, in synagogues we say, ‘Amen’, but in the Temple, we would say, ‘Baruch Shem Kavod Malchuto L’Olam Va’ed’ (May His name be blessed forever and ever).”

The onlookers recited the final verse in unison.

What Amihai had accomplished was simply astounding: a Kohen blessed Jews on the Temple Mount articulating the prescribed Biblical verses hidden within what sounded like a regular speech.

May the LORD bless you and guard you –

יְבָרֶכְךָ יהוה, וְיִשְׁמְרֶךָ

May the LORD make His face shed light upon you and be gracious unto you –

יָאֵר יהוה פָּנָיו אֵלֶיךָ, וִיחֻנֶּךָּ

May the LORD lift up His face unto you and give you peace –

יִשָּׂא יהוה פָּנָיו אֵלֶיךָ, וְיָשֵׂם לְךָ שָׁלוֹם Numbers 6:23–27

Even more incredible was that the blessing was said outright in front of the Islamic Waqf.

When Breaking Israel News asked Amihai if that was indeed his intention, he answered unequivocally, “Yes, of course. As a Kohen, I blessed Israel.”

By violating the rules for entering the Temple Mount, he may be banned from visiting the site, or face even worse consequences. When asked if he was concerned about possible repercussions, his response was powerful and to the point.

“After my daughter is murdered, what more can they do to me?” he asked. “Ban me from the Temple Mount? Arrest me? What more can I possibly lose by blessing Israel? A Jewish man goes up to God’s mountain. I was trying to connect to God. So what are they going to do to me for doing such a thing?”

Ariel explained what he felt was the absolute need for such actions.

“It is clear that Israel needs to learn a lot about these things and what it really means for them, what the Temple really is,” Ariel explained. “I have heard people object to the idea of the Temple. These are people who buy meat and cook it, just to eat it for their base desires. They call me primitive because I think that eating meat is a powerful thing that should be sanctified.”

“I grow grapes in the Hills of Hebron. I want to bring my wine to the Temple and include God in what I do.”

Surprisingly, Ariel does not consider himself to be overly religious, despite his overt devotion to the Temple Mount.

“I think of myself as a very rational and realistic person. I am grounded, not mystical in any way,” he stated. “But when I look around and see the condition the world is in, I come to the conclusion that the world needs a place for God, his Temple in Jerusalem.”

Ariel understandably has little patience for politics or nuance.

“We need to start doing the work of building and so many people, for the wrong reasons, are stopping that from happening.”

The Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, chaired by Rob Portman (R-OH), reported on Tuesday that the Obama administration had funded the OneVoice Movement, a leftwing group that waged a smear campaign to oust Netanyahu during the 2015 elections.
Meanwhile, according to the Washington Free Beacon, a State Department senior official admitted to the committee that he deleted several emails with information about the campaign, or as the report put it, “The State Department was unable to produce all documents responsive to the Subcommittee’s requests due to its failure to retain complete email records of Michael Ratney, who served as US Consul General in Jerusalem during the award and oversight of the OneVoice grants.”

In a video lasting a full 21 minutes, Hamza bin Laden, the youngest son of the late al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, has threatened to carry out attacks against the United States for revenge over his father’s assassination.
Released on Saturday by As-Sahab, Al-Qaeda’s media arm, the video, entitled “We are all Osama” serves as a warning to America of Hamza’s plans to direct numerous terror attacks against the western country for killing bin Laden Senior.

“If you think that your sinful crime that you committed in Abbottabad has passed without punishment, then you thought wrong,” he said, referring to the Pakistani city where his father was hiding before US NAVY SEALs raided the compound, killing Osama and several members of his family. After ensuring the 54-year-old al-Qaeda leader was truly dead, the SEALs proceeded to dump Osama’s body at sea. The operation was successfully executed on May 2, 2011.
But Hamza isn’t only using his father’s death as cause for waging jihad against the west, rather he chose to include America’s continued “oppression” of Muslims throughout the world among the list of reasons why the US should fear all threats from the terrorist group.

Unusual Activity Sparks Confusion as IDF Tanks, Bulldozers Roll Through Golan-Syria Border

For the first time since the Syrian civil war began six years ago, the IDF is reportedly operating with tanks and heavy bulldozers inside the demilitarized zone (DMZ) separating Israel from Syria in the Golan Heights indicating a dangerous end to the long period of relative quiet on the country’s northern border.
Sputnik News, a multi-language news site, reported the IDF was operating in the region between Quneitra in Syria and Ein Zivan in Israel. This area was designated in 1974 as a demilitarized zone officially under control of the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) and the Syrian civilian administration, according to the 1974 armistice agreement. The zone is 10 kilometers deep on each side and no ground-to-air missiles may be deployed inside a 25km radius from the DMZ.
The heavy equipment seen approaching the area was preparing a militarized zone dividing the Israeli and Syrian Golan borders, according to Debka, an Israeli military intelligence website based in Jerusalem. The machinery is there to build a line of fortifications and anti-tank trenches 300-500 meters inside the DMZ. No altercations were reported.
Debka also reported “unusual Israeli Air Force movements over Syria and Lebanon, and elevated preparedness”.
Being that this week marks the 10th anniversary of the Second Lebanon War fought between Hezbollah and Israel, the site in question brings with it concerns of increased activity by the terrorist group.

Radicalization and the Grain of Sand

Within these "homegrown" terrorists is a grain of sand that irritates, which forces them to seek out that which they believe is missing in themselves.
The story of Orlando shooter Omar Mateen, like those of countless other “homegrown” terrorists, is now familiar to the point of cliché. The parents immigrate to the West filled with hope, but their children fail to thrive. They may be successful in some things and fit in with others of their generation, but only superficially.

Sometimes they are soccer-playing, rap-aspiring, beer-drinking lads from the neighborhood, whose failures often lead first to car theft and drug dealing. Other times they are outwardly successful, but the contradictions between the terms of that success and an inner reality or aspiration become too much to bear.

Within them is a grain of sand that irritates, which forces them to seek out that which they believe is missing in themselves. It is a means of overcoming individualism, the self, and becoming part of something much larger. It is a path to meaning.

Passions begin to burn over causes, indignities, injustices; the world does not work the way is it supposed to. Visions of perfection begin to loom but the means of realization require commitment to secrecy, lies, and double lives, to violence and inflicting pain. A sense of authenticity and being whole grows until, in a flash, rage explodes outward.

The base instincts of their insecurities, misogyny, homophobia, and anti-Semitism are given useful scriptural context and legitimation by local mosque sermons. The videos they view online extol jihad with heroic visions of Muslim warriors past and present.
Sometimes outward behavior changes in ways obvious to co-workers, such as the adoption of Islamic dress, strange statements about Islamic supremacism, and complaints about Western “decadence.” They become indignant when questioned or mocked by friends about their increasing religiosity.

In a search for authenticity, they make all-important visits to Saudi Arabia or the homelands of their parents, places they left as children or knew not at all, in search of answers about themselves, anxious to understand their place. But they find they belong nowhere, except in the world that ISIS claims to be remaking. And they return home with a fire in them, having either enlisted in a larger plot or with their own smoldering inside. Then the countdown begins.

There is nothing quite like this in the non-Muslim world. There have been plenty of self-radicalized Christians and Jews in the past few centuries, but few turned to terrorism and fewer still became terrorists in the name of religion.

Iconic examples of violent Jewish radicals include anarchists Emma Goldman and Alexander Berkman, who attempted to murder industrialist Henry Frick, Communists like Leon Trotsky, and later members of the Weather Underground in America.

But neither the identities nor the causes of these revolutionaries were remotely Jewish. They embraced what they thought to be the inevitable course of history and aspired to awaken the masses to a higher state of being. Jews who became radicalized overwhelming acted in the name of humanity, only rarely for the Jewish people, and almost never for the Jewish God.

The one notable exception to the universalist goals of Jewish revolutionaries is Zionism. But its goals have been more precisely ethnic and national, not religious. Apart from a few marginal groups (e.g. Gush Emunim, an underground cell that sought to blow up the Dome of the Rock decades ago) and “lone wolves” like Yaacov Teitel, Baruch Goldstein, and Yigal Amir, God’s will has had little to do with Jewish radicalism.

While Jewish radicals mostly leave Judaism to join universal movements, radical Islamists embrace their religious faith and almost exclusively pursue Muslim goals, both locally (Palestine, Kashmir, Chechnya, etc.) and globally. No thought is given to bettering humanity, except in the sense of subjugating it to Allah.

Judaism is not very rich source of legitimation for modern violence. Its history of conquest and domination is exclusively local and literary. It lacks Islam’s traditions of earthly rewards for conquest and resulting heavenly rewards for heroic martyrdom, and there is no history of individual or mass violence to terrorize conquered populations into submission (even biblical accounts of the conquest of Canaan are sharply debated as to their morality). There is a long messianic tradition, but nothing that seeks to bring the end times through violence that ignites cataclysm.

Jewish (and Christian) religious authorities, with only marginal exceptions, find such violence anathema. Fleetingly few Jewish children are socialized to hate in ways that would spark, much less legitimize, indiscriminate violence, nor are they taught to dream of glorious days past that could again become real through such triumphs of the will.

For Jews and Christians, God’s plan for this world is opaque, and the shape of the next is vague. For others, and for Muslims in particular, these plans are imprinted deep into their culture, tiny grains that when compressed too far, ignite into fireballs. Such differences are key to understanding the making of Omar Mateens.

The time has come for us to recognize change.For the faster we come to terms with our new
position, the faster we will maximize its potential.
We are living at a time when preconceived notions are crashing down one on top of the other.

We thought that nothing would ever change in the Arab world. But the Arab world hasn’t merely changed, large portions of it have collapsed. And regimes that have so far survived are beating a path to Israel’s door.

We thought that American dominance in the Middle East would last forever. And today the US is withdrawing. Its withdrawal may be short-lived, or it may stay out for the foreseeable future. Whatever the case, Russia is already picking up the pieces.

That would be shocking enough. But even worse, as it has withdrawn, the US has turned a cold shoulder to Israel and its Sunni allies in a bid to build an alliance with Iran.

We thought that the European Union was the rising world power. We thought the euro was the currency of tomorrow.

Instead, Britain decided to bolt the EU and the euro zone is a disaster zone. European economic growth is sclerotic. European societies are coming apart at the seams under the crushing weight of failed monetary policies, over-regulation and mass emigration from the ruins of the Arab world.

Now we are witnessing the collapse of yet another preconceived notion.

For more than 20 years – indeed, since the initiation of the phony peace process with the PLO in 1993 – the who’s who of Israel’s chattering classes have told us that our growing diplomatic isolation is the result of our failure to make peace with the PLO. Everything will change for the better, immediately, they tell us, the minute we give up Jerusalem, expel hundreds of thousands of Israelis from their homes in Judea and Samaria, and hand security control of the Jordan Valley over to someone else.
But amazingly, despite the fact that there is no peace process, rather than suffering from diplomatic collapse, it is springtime for Israeli diplomacy as governments around the world seek out closer ties with the Jewish state.

And they aren’t coming to us, despite our supposed moral failings. They are coming to us because they admire us.

Exhibit A: Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Last week Putin delivered an address before the All Russian Historical Assembly about the importance of teaching Russian history to Russia’s citizens.

Putin used Israel as a model for how historical knowledge empowers a nation.

Putin said, “Israel… relies and develops its identity and brings up its citizens with reliance on historical examples.”

Putin’s use of Israel as a positive role model showed that Putin’s sudden courtship of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not solely the product of strategic and economic interests.

He happens to admire Israel.

Next week Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will embark on a five-day visit to Africa. During the trip he will visit Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Ethiopia.

He may meet with additional heads of state during one of his stops. Netanyahu’s visit marks the first prime ministerial trip to Africa since Yitzhak Rabin visited in the early 1990s.

Africa isn’t Russia. But it is an important arena.

For nearly a century and a half, Africa has been the playing ground of world powers. In the 19th century, the European powers divided it up among themselves. In the Cold War, the newly independent states of Africa were sucked into the superpower competition as the US and the Soviet Union competed for turf through their African proxies.

Since the end of the Cold War, both world powers and regional ones have been drawn to Africa who view it as a convenient economic and strategic stomping ground.

Over the past decade and a half, China has emerged as the dominant economic player in Africa.

The Chinese move from state to state, building infrastructure in exchange for mining and petroleum contracts.

The US has opted not to challenge China’s economic dominance in Africa. The US’s nonchalance is either a function of indifference or of ignorance of the toll that China’s economic behavior will eventually take on US companies in Africa.

Case in point is Gabon. The West African nation is an oil power. According to business sources in Gabon, President Ali Bongo Ondimba is a pro-Western Muslim. He is interested in expanded trade ties to the US.

Ondimba’s electoral opponent, Jean Ping, a former senior UN official and former foreign minister, is oriented toward China. Yet, the US is allegedly supporting Ping over Ondimba due to dissatisfaction with the latter’s human rights record. If Ping is elected in August, US oil companies in Gabon are liable to see their contracts challenged.

Human rights and democracy promotion are major themes of US policy in Africa. Since the 1998 al-Qaida bombings of the US embassies in Tanzania and Kenya, counterterrorism has also been a major concern. During his presidency, George W. Bush established the US military’s Africa Command to run US operations in the continent.

However, as part of Obama’s policy of winding down the US’s war against terrorism, and following the US’s contribution to the overthrow of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, the US has constrained its operations. Its minimalistic approach to fighting Boko Haram in West Africa and al-Qaida offshoots in East Africa makes clear that the US’s strategic disarray, after seven-and-a-half years of the Obama presidency, has not left Africa unaffected.

World powers are not the only players in Africa.

Regional powers are also on the scene. Iran, for instance, views Africa as a theater for expanding its influence over the Middle East. Last month The Wall Street Journal reported on Iran’s growing missionary presence in West Africa.

Iran and Hezbollah are running Islamic centers in Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania and Cameroon, and they’re getting results. Whereas in 1980, a Pew Survey showed no adherents to Shi’ite Islam in Africa, today, 12 percent of Nigeria’s 90 million Muslims are Shi’ites. So are 21% of Muslims in Chad, 20% in Tanzania, and 8% in Ghana.

Much of the missionary work is being handled by Lebanese expatriates in West Africa. Many of these former Lebanese are suspected of having close ties to Hezbollah. Indeed, earlier this year, the US Treasury Department named three Lebanese nationals living in Nigeria as Hezbollah operatives.

During Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s tenure as Iranian president, Tehran expended enormous resources expanding and deepening its presence in Africa.

Among the fruits of his efforts was the Eritrean regime’s agreement to allow Iran to operate a naval base in the Horn of Africa. Iran’s cooperation with Sudan, and its use of Sudanese territory to ship advanced weapons to Gaza, reached new heights.

Iran’s Africa strategy took a major hit earlier this year, however. Owing to massive Saudi pressure, and, in all likelihood, massive payoffs, Sudan, Comoros, Somalia and Djibouti cut diplomatic ties with Iran in January. Sudan even joined Saudi Arabia in its campaign against Iran in Yemen. Eritrea reportedly permitted the Saudis to launch operations in Yemen from its territory.

This then brings us back to Israel, and Netanyahu’s visit to Africa.

In recent years, Israel has also been expanding its relations with African nations. Even South Africa, Israel’s greatest antagonist in Africa, indicated earlier this year that its hostility isn’t all-consuming.

In March, Foreign Ministry director-general Dore Gold paid a prolonged visit to South Africa where he was the guest of his South African counterpart.

South Africa aside, African nations from all over the continent view Israel as a rich source of technology and security expertise they are keen to tap.

They also view Israel as a rising economic power.

With an average economic growth rate of 6%, Africa is also an attractive market for Israeli companies across a swath of industries.

The most practical lesson from power politics in Africa is that for Africans, nothing is a done deal.

African states can cooperate simultaneously with competing outside powers and everyone benefits.

For instance, according to reports, Eritrea allows Iran, Israel and Saudi Arabia to operate on its territory simultaneously. In other words, there is no reason to ever consider anyone in anyone’s pocket, and no reason not to ask for what we want. We may get it.

In recent years, Israel has done this to our advantage in the diplomatic realm, long thought to be a lost cause.

Last September, a draft resolution at the International Atomic Energy Agency calling for Israel to open its nuclear sites to UN inspectors came up for a vote. It was defeated due to opposition from African states.

So, too, in late 2000, a draft UN Security Council resolution recognizing “Palestine” was defeated because Nigeria and Rwanda chose to abstain from voting. The African representatives’ action caught supporters of the resolution by surprise.

The Israeli leader most responsible for those successes was then-foreign minister Avigdor Liberman.

During his tenure at the Foreign Ministry, Liberman conducted two prolonged visits to Africa during which he visited seven countries, including Nigeria and Rwanda.

There is every reason to expect that during Netanyahu’s visit to Africa, Israel will expand and deepen its ties with Africa still further. And at some point, those deepened ties will result in further African support for Israel at the UN.

This returns us to our shattered accepted wisdom about Israel’s diplomatic isolation.

The view that Israel’s diplomatic fate is directly tied to its willingness to give up Judea and Samaria and Jerusalem is based on the Eurocentric view that the EU is the most important player in the diplomatic arena and that Israel cannot be successful unless Brussels supports us. For Israel’s elites, the fact that the EU is hostile to Israel is taken as proof that we are morally compromised and don’t deserve its support.

But as Israel’s diplomatic rise in Africa, Asia, Russia and beyond makes clear, the Eurocentric view is wrong. Israel needn’t waste its time and energy trying to appease the Europeans. Not only is it an exercise in futility, given Europe’s boundless and unhinged hostility. It is also unnecessary, given Europe’s economic weakness and political decay.

Due to our elite’s continued allegiance to the Eurocentric view, scant media attention has been paid to Israel’s diplomatic blossoming. Much of the public is unaware that far from being isolated, Israel is enjoying a diplomatic rise unseen since the end of the Cold War.

The time, however, has come for us to recognize the change. For the faster we come to terms with our new position, the faster we will maximize its potential.

Turkey-Israel Rapprochement

Israel has made its apology and agreed to the sum it will pay in damages to Turkish citizens. But what cannot be judged at this moment is the degree of commitment to the elements of the deal on the Turkish side.
Israeli policy (assisted by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden) produced perhaps the best possible outcome.
The UN Secretary General’s Report on the Gaza Flotilla concluded that Israel was within its rights to use force, and found the blockade of Gaza to be legal.
Turkey agreed to Israel’s original condition to the flotilla ships — aid bound for Gaza will offload in Ashdod.
Israel had also wanted to oust Hamas from Turkey — something that may not have been accomplished. But Turkey, by agreeing to a number of humanitarian projects in Gaza, will increase its leverage over Hamas in ways that might benefit Israel.
The announcement of Turkish-Israeli rapprochement was touted first as an economic achievement for Israel. It should be noted, however, that Turkey-Israel civilian trade, as distinct from military trade, was already robust, rising from $1.5 billion in the first half of 2010 to $5.6 billion in 2015. Israel has an interest in Turkey as a customer for Israeli natural gas fields, but a number of countries — including Russia — also seek partnerships in natural gas.

Another Voice Predicting Islamism’s Doom

Most armed Islamist groups are the biggest contemporary disaster that the Arab and Muslim nations – and even Islam – are facing.Moncef Marzouki, the president of Tunisia from 2011 to 2014, has penned an analysis predicting, as I have, the demise of Islamism. I quote from a MiddleEastEye.net abridgement and translation of the original Arabic version that appeared at Aljazeera.net.
Marzouki, a liberal human rights activist who returned from exile after a popular revolt brought down dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, became president under a power-sharing agreement following Tunisia’s first free parliamentary elections in October 2011, heading a government dominated by the Islamist Ennahda party. “We do not have the same point of view on women’s rights, human rights, and so forth,” he lamented to Time magazine in 2012.
In this article, Marzouki begins by placing Islamism in the context of three other isms: nationalism, pan-Arabism, and communism, all of which have declined. Today, he writes, we are “about to see the decline of a fourth wave, Islamism, after witnessing its launch in the early 1970s and reaching its peak in the late 1990s.”
Like other isms, “Islamism expanded as a result of society’s wish to solve all or some of its problems.” Today, “awkward questions” are being asked: “Have you fulfilled all of your promises? Did you live up to the high hopes that were placed on you? In the end, what did you achieve?”
He notes the gaudy current Islamist achievements but dismisses them, recalling that the Soviet Union “was seen as a power that will stay for the next thousand years” but, in fact, “collapsed like cardboard, albeit gradually, but not many people foresaw it. That’s exactly what is happening today with regards to the Islamist current.”

How Religion Could Literally Save Your Life

A recent US study suggests that attending religious services at least once a week could provide spiritual and social protection against inclinations towards suicide.
Participants of the Nurses’ Health Study were recruited beginning in 1976, when they were 30 to 55 years old. Every two years, they were given lifestyle questionnaires to answer. The team chose to focus their research on the group during the period of 1996 through 2010.
Of the 89,708 female nurses who were studied in that time frame, the women who acknowledged they attended religious services on a regular basis showed a five-fold lower risk of committing suicide, compared with those who didn’t go at all.
Upon further analyzing the study’s data, researchers discovered variations existed among those of differing religious affiliation. Explained lead author Tyler J. VanderWeele “Protestant women who attended services once or more per week were approximately 3 times less likely to subsequently commit suicide, whereas Catholic women who attended services once or more per week were about 20 times less likely to commit suicide.”

Israel Denies Report of Foiled Assassination Attempt on Netanyahu in Africa

Israeli officials said on Thursday that reports of a foiled attempt to assassinate Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s life while the leader was on a diplomatic visit to Africa were untrue.
Kuwaiti daily newspaper al-Jarida reported on Thursday that Kenya’s security forces had stopped an attempt on Netanyahu’s life earlier in the week. According to the paper, which cited an anonymous source, the threat appeared on Tuesday as Netanyahu left the Nairobi airport in Kenya to travel to his hotel.
The source said that Kenyan security authorities had abruptly instructed Netanyahu’s security guards to change the route of the convoy carrying the prime minister, leading to arguments between the Kenyan and Israeli forces. According to the source, Netanyahu’s convoy did change its course and arrived at a safe hotel, at which point it was revealed that Kenyan intelligence had uncovered a plot to attack vehicles in the convoy along its original route.
The paper also reported that Kenyan authorities had arrested two people in relation to the assassination attempt.
However, a Netanyahu aide told Army Radio that there had been no change of route, and the Israeli leader himself said that he knew nothing about the report.

Less than a week after 13 year old Hallel Yaffa Ariel was killed in her home in the Judean community of Otniel, the grief stricken family were once again blessed to hold baby girl Hallel.
Michal and Dovi Gellar, who live in the northern city of Hispin, were proud parents of six delightful children, ages ranging from 18 to 6 and thought their family was complete. It was after Operation Protective Edge in 2014, however, when the Gellars experienced a newfound burst of desire to bring another soul into this world.
On Saturday night, when the Ariel family was mourning the lost of their eldest, Michal and Dovi welcomed their youngest: a seventh child.  
Hallel Yaffa Ariel was sleeping peacefully in her home on Thursday morning when a Palestinian terrorist jumped the fence protecting Israelis from infiltration, and stabbed the young girl numerous times. Hallel fell unconscious, but despite being rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her wounds.
Michal and Dovi, who told Ynet News of their close friendship with the Ariel family, determined it fitting to name their newest bundle of joy after “the most amazing girl in the world,” according to Hallel Yaffa’s aunt. The three day old baby Gellar was therefore named Carmi Hallel (in Hebrew, ‘my vineyard of praise’).
“Through all the grief, we saw the light in the late Hallel’s eyes when she danced. We felt how her light strengthened our lives. Together, the names Carmi and Hallel give a noble meaning with huge appreciation and a connection to life forces,” said Michal.
The baby’s name comes brings with it bittersweet sentiments for the Ariels. When she was informed of the Gellars’ decision to name their daughter after hers, Rina Ariel, said, “I was very moved to hear about the baby Karmi Hallel. But it brings up for us feelings of sadness. We understand that Hallel isn’t just ours anymore, but all the nation of Israel’s.”

How Ezekiel 36:8 is Coming to Fruition in a Galilee Olive Grove

One of the benefits of living in modern Israel is the physical connection with the Bible. Two American families moved to Yavne’el in the Upper Galilee and personally witnessed Jacob’s  blessing to Naftali come to fruition right in their backyard.  

When the Veffers moved to the Upper Galilee town of Yavne’el, the Biblical roots were clear. Israel is divided into regions based on the Biblical tribes and the land they inherited. Yavne’el (Jabneel) is in the region corresponding to the tribe of Naftali. It was one of the Biblical border towns of the tribe of Naftali mentioned in the Book of Joshua.

And their border was from Heleph, from Elon-beza-anannim, and Adami-nekeb, and Jabneel, unto Lakkum; and the goings out thereof were at the Jordan. Joshua 19:33

On his deathbed, Jacob blessed each of his sons with a prophetic vision for their tribe. Naftali’s blessing was concise and open to interpretation.
Naftali is a hind let loose: he giveth goodly words. Genesis 49:21
Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki, an 11th century French Torah scholar known by the acronym Rashi, explained that this prophetic vision referred to the Ginosar valley in the land designated to the tribe of Naftali. Just as a deer is swift, the fertile land in the region designated to Naftali would allow the fruit to ripen quickly. And, in fact, the Upper Galilee is a strikingly fertile and lush region.

Rabbi Yehudah Glick, the newly appointed Likud member of Knesset, is the target of a recent animated Hamas video which shows, in excruciating detail, the terror group’s plan to assassinate the champion for human rights on the Temple Mount in front of his own home.
The two-minute video began appearing on social media and YouTube on Friday. It was produced using video game technology. In the graphic video, two masked terrorists penetrate the security fence of Glick’s hometown, Otniel, in the hills of Hebron. They wait in ambush outside his house as Glick drives home. When he steps out of his car, the terrorists open fire with Kalashnikov rifles and kill the character, whose likeness to the actual Glick is undeniable. A song in Hebrew celebrates the successful murder and threatens others like him.

Bennett: Preserve Unity of Jerusalem,

Israeli officials emphasized the importance of maintaining a clear and undivided Jerusalem this morning at the annual conference held by the Yesha Council, an organization representing the Jewish communities of Judea and Samaria.

“Givat Hamatos is a strategic point for the future of Jerusalem,” said Education Minister and Jewish Home Party Chairman Naftali Bennett. “It is where the fate of the unity of Jerusalem will be set.”

Minister Bennett made the remarks following the approval of 600 new housing units for Arabs in the neighborhood of Beit Safafa, located on land in southern Jerusalem territories annexed by Israel after the Six Day War in 1967. The new housing units will further connect the Arab neighborhood to Givat Hamatos, also located on southern Jerusalem lands gained by Israel in 1967.
“The goal of the world and the Palestinians is to create Palestinian territorial continuity through Givat Hamatos from Beit Jala to Malha,” continued Minister Bennett.
Beit Jala is a Palestinian town located next to Bethlehem and south of Givat Hamatos. Malha is another neighborhood in southern Jerusalem to the west of Givat Hamatos.

Family of Captured IDF Soldier Opposes Gilad Shalit-Style Prisoner Exchange for Son’s Body

The family of IDF Lieutenant Hadar Goldin, who was killed in Operation Protective Edge in 2014 and whose body was then reportedly abducted by Hamas, expressed adamant opposition to a reported demand by Hamas for an exchange of prisoners in return for Goldin’s body.
“The State of Israel had a golden opportunity last week to change the equation and to force Hamas to pay the price and return the bodies of Hadar and Oron in the framework of an agreement with Turkey,” a spokesperson for the the family said.
Goldin’s family for a week have been actively protesting the decision by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his cabinet to move forward on a reconciliation agreement with Turkey.

Israel Indicts ISIS-Inspired Sarona Market Shooters

Two Palestinian cousins who carried out a shooting attack at a Tel Aviv market last month that killed four Israeli civilians were indicted for the murders on Monday. They were charged along with an accomplice who helped them prepare for the attack and had originally planned to take part in the attack as well.
According to the indictment, the terrorists were inspired by the Islamic State terror organization, also known as ISIS, although they were not officially recruited and did not apparently receive direct guidance or assistance from it.
The two terrorists are Muhammad Muhamra and Khaled Muhamra, 21-year-old cousins from the village of Yatta in the Mount Hebron region. They opened fire on a crowd of shoppers and diners at the Sarona Market on June 8, killing Ido Ben Ari, Ilana Nave, Dr. Michael Feige, and Mila Mishayev and wounding at least 15 others.

Israel recently signed a controversial reconciliation deal with Turkey after six years of disharmony between the nations. While the recent deal can be attributed to a number of modern political considerations, an alliance between Israel and Turkey can clearly be understood to be bolstered by its Biblical roots. More importantly, it has prophetic implications that will help bring the Messiah.
The agreement, signed in June, will ally Turkey in Israel’s fight against mutual terrorist enemies, such as the Islamic State (ISIS). Additionally, Turkey will stop blocking Israeli interests in international organizations such as NATO and the UN.

Today, the Fourth of July, marks 240 years since representatives of the original 13 colonies signed the historic Declaration of Independence, forever removing the burden of British rule and proudly establishing a new country to represent the values of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”.
Since that very first Independence Day in 1776, America’s leaders have fought to bring its citizens the rights deserved by those living in a democratic nation. Whether freedom of religion, freedom of speech, the right of the people to be secure in their own homes, or freedom of the press, the once fledgling country has now boomed into a world power, refusing to allow harm to come to its people nor to its refreshing way of viewing the world with each step towards the future.
Fortunately, America does not stand alone in its battle towards securing a future of hope and prosperity for its people.
Because while the nation of 50 states and approximately 319 million people faces near monthly attacks from the unspoken evil of radical Islam, a little country no larger than the size of New Jersey, located 6,000 miles away, experiences the same terror, albeit on a more frequent- and often more deadly- basis.

Hezbollah has 100,000 missiles prepared to attack Israel, said General Hossein Salami, the deputy commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, on Friday.
During a day of violent anti-Israel sentiment and demonstrations in Iran, Salami claimed, “Hezbollah has 100,000 missiles that are ready to hit Israel to liberate the occupied Palestinian territories if the Zionist regime repeats its past mistakes,” reported Iran’s Tasnim News Agency.
Hezbollah, a recognized terror group, operates in Lebanon, north of Israel.
Speaking in honor of “al Quds Day”, Iran’s annual “holiday” marking solidarity with the Palestinians, Salami continued, “Today, the grounds for the annihilation and collapse of the Zionist regime are [present] more than ever.”
Salami boasted that “tens of thousands of destructive long-range missiles” are aimed at Israel from Islamic territories, said the Jerusalem Post.
Iran itself has stockpiled thousands of missiles in defiance of international strictures, some of which it claims can reach Israel.
Salami warned, “If the Zionists make a wrong move, all the occupied territories will come under attack from dedicated fighters and, God willing, the territories will be liberated.”

Israel Approves Construction of 800 Houses in Biblical Homeland

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman approved the construction of 800 homes in Judea and Samaria, as well as several hundred new homes for an Arab neighborhood in East Jerusalem.
Abou 560 of the housing units will be built in the city of Ma’ale Adumim, located just west of Jerusalem. Another 140 homes will be constructed in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Ramot, and a further 100 units in the Har Homa area, a relatively small community in southeast Jerusalem, The Times of Israel reported.
Netanyahu and Liberman also authorized the development of 600 homes in the Arab neighborhood of Beit Safafa in East Jerusalem, a move which has received criticism from Zeev Elkin, the minister for Jerusalem Affairs, due to its proximity to the Jewish community of Givat Hamatos.
“Six hundred housing units for Arab residents for Beit Safafa [is] essentially the Arab part of the future Givat Hamatos neighborhood. You can’t approve construction for Arabs in Givat Hamatos without also developing construction for Jews in the same neighborhood,” Elkin said.
The minister called on Netanyahu to “approve construction in Givat Hamatos for Jews too; Jerusalem needs this neighborhood” and to build “more than 2,000 units urgently” because it is of “strategic value to the [capital’s] development.”

The media has desperately tried to blame anything and everything for the Orlando Muslim massacre. The bloodshed by a Muslim terrorist has been attributed to guns, homophobia, family problems and mental illness. But Omar Mateen told his Facebook friends and a 911 operator exactly why he was doing it. Omar killed 49 people as part of the Islamic State’s war against America.

The motive is there in black and white. This was one of a number of ISIS attacks. The roots of the Orlando attack lie in Iraq forcing us to dig down into Obama’s disastrous mishandling of ISIS. Without understanding what went wrong in Iraq, we cannot understand what happened in Orlando.

Under Bush, Al Qaeda in Iraq had been on the run. Under Obama, it began overrunning the region.

In 2009, Obama vowed a “responsible” end to the Iraq War. He claimed that the “starting point for our policies must always be the safety of the American people”. But the safety of the American people was the first casualty of his foreign policy. In 2011, he hung up his own “Mission Accomplished” sign and boasted that “The long war in Iraq will come to an end by the end of this year.” It did not and would not.

Obama claimed that his withdrawal from Iraq and his invasion of Libya were both examples of successful policies. Both countries are now ISIS playgrounds. The “sovereign, stable and self-reliant” Iraq he told the country we were leaving behind was a myth. The new Libya was an equally imaginary and unreal place. ISIS gained power and influence as a result of that chaos. And it used that influence to kill Americans.

Today the battle for Fallujah is raging. When ISIS first took the city, Obama breezily dismissed them as a JayVee team. He specifically insisted that ISIS posed no serious threat to America. “There is a distinction between the capacity and reach of a bin Laden and a network that is actively planning major terrorist plots against the homeland versus jihadists who are engaged in various local power struggles and disputes, often sectarian.”

Eli Wiesel, Holocaust Survivor, Nobel Prize Winner, and Champion for Israel Passes Away

Elie Wiesel, Holocaust survivor, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and outspoken pro-Israel activist, passed away on Saturday at the age of 87.
A prolific author, he penned 57 books. One of his most memorable works, Night, described his personal experiences during the Holocaust as a teen in the Auschwitz, Buna, and Buchenwald concentration camps. For ten years after the end of the war, Wiesel, refused to write about or discuss his experiences. But in 1952, after a meeting with Chabad Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, and at the urging of his friend, Nobel Laureate and author Francois Mauriac, Wiesel began to write about the Holocaust.
This led to his writing an 864 page manuscript in Yiddish which he later adapted. The original in Yiddish has been described as an angry account intended for post-war Jews. This transformed into the book, Night, which was published in America in 1960. The literary critic Ruth Franklin writes that the pruning of the text from Yiddish to French transformed an angry historical account into a work of art.With few sales at first, the book has now became a mainstay in Holocaust literature, and has been translated into 30 languages, selling millions of copies.
Wiesel was born in Sighet, Transylvania, located in what is now Romania, on September 30, 1928. When Wiesel was 15,  he was sent into a Jewish ghetto along with the rest of Romania’s Jews. Soon after, he was sent to Auschwitz. Separated from his mother and three sisters, Wiesel went through labor camps with his father, Shlomo. Just a few weeks before Buchenwald was liberated by the Allied forces, Wiesel’s father was beaten badly and sent to the gas chambers. His younger sister and mother were also killed in the Holocaust. After the war, Wiesel was reunited with his two older sisters.

Mideast Quartet Report Equally Blames Israelis, Palestinians for Stalled Peace Process

A long-awaited report released Friday by the international Middle East Quartet—the United States, Russia, the European Union, and the United Nations—blames both the Israelis and Palestinians for the ongoing impasse in the peace process.
The report said that “continuing violence, recent acts of terrorism against Israelis, and incitement to violence are fundamentally incompatible with advancing a peaceful two-state solution and are greatly exacerbating mistrust between the communities.”
Additionally, the report slammed the Palestinians for publicly glorifying terrorists as “heroic martyrs.”
“Palestinian leaders have not consistently and clearly condemned specific terrorist attacks. And streets, squares, and schools have been named after Palestinians who have committed acts of terrorism,” said the report.

City of Patriarchs Weeps After Horrific Weekend of Terror

Once again, Israel is reeling from attacks too terrible to absorb as the focus of terror shifts to Hebron, the holy city of the Cave of the Patriarchs. In two days, two Jews were killed by Palestinian terrorists in the hills of Hebron: a 13-year-old girl was murdered while she slept on Thursday, and a father of ten, a rabbi with hundreds of students, was killed after Palestinian gunmen targeted his family’s car on Friday, before the Sabbath.
Hallel Yafa Ariel, a young teenager with dual US-Israeli citizenship, was stabbed to death Thursday morning in Kiryat Arba, the Jewish community adjacent to Hebron. She was killed as she lay sleeping in her bed by Mohammed Taraireh,  a 17-year-old Palestinian from Bani Naim. Hallel was on summer vacation, having just finished 8th grade.
Tareirah climbed the security fence at 8:44 AM and was spotted immediately by security cameras. Tragically, by the time the security team arrived at the scene, Tareirah had already entered the Ariel house through a window and stabbed Hallel dozens of times, ending her life.

A member of the civilian Rapid Response Team shot and killed Tareirah. Another member of the team, Yehoshua Gilboa, was severely injured by bullet shrapnel to his upper body and lost his right eye.

Abbas Refuses to Condemn Arab Murder
of Jews, Won’t Answer Calls From World Leaders

President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas has refused to speak out condemning the horrific murders of 13-year-old Hallel Yaffa Ariel, stabbed to death by a Palestinian terrorist in her bed on Thursday, and Rabbi Miki Mark, a father of ten who was killed on Friday when terrorists shot at his car as he drove with his family south of Hebron.
Abbas did not make a public statement in response to the killings. He has refused requests from Israeli and world leaders who have asked him to speak out in condemnation of the terror attacks. According to a Channel 2 report, Abbas is even refusing to take some of the calls.

In the finale of season six, the popular HBO series Game of Thrones added a touch of Biblical spice to its usual fare of blood and intrigue when the second part of a three-part prophecy tragically came true. The outcome of the series may now depend on whether or not the writers adhere to the Biblical concept of prophecy.

For those who are unfamiliar with the series, Game of Thrones is a fantasy television show, based on George R. R. Martin’s book series “A Song of Fire and Ice”, which depicts powerful families vying for control of the fictional land of Westeros. It is the most popular series in HBO’s history with more than 18 million viewers. The show is infamous for its violence and sexuality, making it difficult for religious viewers to watch. Nonetheless, few Bible readers could fail to discern the Biblical themes in Game of Thrones.

The finale last week delved into prophecy, a realm of Biblical narrative rarely dealt with in pop culture. In season five, a flashback showed a young Cersei Lannister, the future queen of Westeros, receiving a prophecy from a fortune teller. Three events were prophesied: Cersei would marry the king; she would see all of her children die; and she would be killed by her own brother.

Game of Thrones shows the first two prophecies fulfilled. Cersei marries the king. Her firstborn son is killed by poison, rendering her inconsolable. Several seasons later, she mourns the death of her daughter, also poisoned, leaving her one remaining son.

But the acid test for Game of Thrones’s concept of prophecy and fate comes when Cersei’s last child commits suicide in the finale. Upon seeing his body, Cersei orders it burned and his ashes spread over the remains of the Sept, a place of worship. She is tearless and unemotional, seemingly unaffected by the death of her son.

Fans of the series explain her equanimity as a sign that she has finally come to terms with the inevitability of the prophecy she received. The prophecy is irrevocable and nothing she does will change the future outcome.

Rabbi Natan Greenberg, head of Bat Ayin Yeshiva, explained that the Jewish concept of prophecy is very different.

“Prophecy doesn’t work that way,” he said. “The sages taught that a good prophecy will happen, but a difficult prophecy is dependant on repentance.”

Rabbi Avraham Arieh Trugman, director of Ohr Chadash Torah Institute, who recently published Prophecy and Divine Inspiration on this subject, gave an analogy.

“Prophecy is like a person who goes to a doctor. The doctor gives a diagnosis, but then says, ‘if you change, lose weight, stop smoking, eat right, the diagnosis will change’,” Rabbi Trugman said. “If you stay on the same bad track, then bad things will certainly happen.”

Aside from prophecy, there is a strong connection between the series and Biblical themes both in specific character arcs and larger thematic elements. Following the finale, an article in Tablet Magazine compellingly compared a Game of Thrones character to King David, pointing out the parallels between the Biblical King and the character of Jon Snow, a bastard son declared “King of the North” in the finale.

Both come from ambiguous and mysterious birth, making them unlikely kings; both have to prove themselves on the battlefield; both are plagued by forbidden love; and both have half-siblings who are natural heirs to their thrones but who choose to step aside.

The similarities are so prevalent that Playbuzz, a digital publishing platform, featured a quiz, challenging people to identify whether a certain shocking storyline originated in the Bible or in Game of Thrones.

Breaking Israel News asked Rabbi Greenberg about the role of secular stories in religion. Rabbi Greenberg is a follower of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, an 18th century Hasidic master who used secular parables and stories as part of his teachings.

“Rabbi Nachman taught that every story, even children’s stories, can reflect the truth, bringing deep spiritual principles. It’s certainly relevant to look for a hidden truth in Game of Thrones,” he asserted.

Rabbi Trugman, agreed, but added a disclaimer. He based his explanation on the blessing Noah gave to his son, Japheth.

“Japheth, from yofi (beauty), was blessed but was told he should retain his connection with Shem, who is the name, or the name of God.” Rabbi Trugman explained, “Beauty has a truth, but it loses its significance if it comes at the expense of the spiritual.”

Overarching Biblical themes of good and evil are clearly a major element for the author of the series. Martin, when asked about this in an interview with New Republic, indicated that Game of Thrones is an attempt to question the entire dichotomy, delving into an almost theological debate.

“What constitutes good and what constitutes evil?” Martin said. “What happens if our good intentions produce evil? Does the end justify the means?”

Fans may ponder these spiritual questions while waiting for the next season to begin.

41 Killed in “Heinous” Suicide Bombing Terror Attack at Istanbul Airport

Dozens were killed and nearly 150 wounded in a shooting and suicide bombing attack on Istanbul’s Atatürk international airport on Tuesday night. Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said that the Islamic State, which carried out a similar attack at Brussels Airport in March, was likely responsible, though no group has yet claimed credit.

The attack began just before 9 pm when three terrorists, who arrived by taxi, entered the airport, which is the third busiest in Europe. Conflicting reports indicate that one or more of them opened fire with automatic weapons in the departures hall, prompting return fire from police officers, before all three detonated explosive suicide vests in or around the airport’s international terminal, killing at least 41 people as well as themselves.

According to one Turkish official, the terrorists exploded their bombs at the entrance to the arrivals terminal and in a nearby parking lot, and none of them had managed to make it past a security checkpoint.

At least 147 people were injured, some critically. According to the Associated Press, senior Turkish government officials expect the death toll to climb to 50.

Speaking to press at the airport following the bombing, Yildirim said that initial investigations “point at the Daesh [ISIS] organization as the perpetrators of this terror attack” but added that investigations were continuing.

The attack was similar in nature to the horrific bombing of Brussels Airport in March, in which 16 people were killed by two suicide bombers. ISIS quickly claimed responsibility for that attack, as well as for another explosion at a Brussels subway in which 16 more people were killed.

“This has shown once again that terrorism is a global threat,” stated Yildirim. “This is a heinous planned attack that targeted innocent people.”

He suggested that the timing of the attack was related to Turkey’s newly signed reconciliation agreement with Israel, officially announced on Monday, and its military actions against Kurdish rebels in Turkey.

“It is meaningful that this heinous attack came at a time when we have become successful in the fight against separatist terrorism … and at a time when we started a process of normalizing ties with our neighbors,” Yildirim said.

Most of the victims were Turkish, but there were also some foreigners among those killed. Though a number of Israeli diplomats and at least 130 Israeli travelers were at the airport at the time of the attack, all had been accounted for by Wednesday morning.

While air traffic was interrupted after the bombing, flights had resumed by Wednesday.

This is the fifth bombing terror attack of the year for Turkey. Two suicide attacks in Istanbul’s tourist hotspots were attributed to ISIS. A Kurdish militant group claimed responsibility for two car bombing attacks, the most recent of which killed 11 and wounded 36.

Presbyterian Church USA “Curses” Israel With Pro-BDS, Anti-Settlement Resolutions

Presbyterian Church USA passed a series of resolutions at its general assembly in support of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel, while calling on Israel to leave the disputed territories.

Among the measures passed by the Presbyterian Church includes the approval of a report, in a 429-129 vote, that seeks to examine the two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and possible alternatives “including but not limited to that of two sovereign states—Israel and Palestine.” The report says that Israel’s “policy trajectory of continued settlements and brutal occupation” is “deeply troubling.”

“Not only does it make a two-state solution increasingly difficult, if not impossible, to achieve, but the emerging, de facto single state’s systematic violation of Palestinian rights and democratic values is eroding Israel’s moral legitimacy,” the report adds.

Additionally, the Presbyterian Church passed a resolution calling for “prayerful study” of both the church’s support for the BDS movement and opposition to that movement. A third resolution urged the real estate company RE/MAX to stop sales of property within Israeli settlements in the disputed territories. At its previous general assembly in 2014, the Presbyterian Church narrowly passed a resolution calling for divestment from companies doing business in Israel.

The church’s Israel-Palestine Mission Network, which has lobbied for pro-BDS resolutions, praised the “advances made at this year’s General Assembly towards supporting a just and lasting peace in Israel and Palestine.”

Leading American-Jewish groups criticized the church’s moves.

“We are deeply disappointed with the Presbyterian Church’s decision to embrace motions which forward arguments in favor of a bi-national state and of the anti-Israel BDS campaign,” said Rabbi David Sandmel, the Anti-Defamation League’s director of interfaith affairs.

Emily Soloff, associate director of interreligious and intergroup relations at the American Jewish Committee, said that a “major Protestant denomination in the U.S. with deep roots in the Middle East has chosen to be a cheerleader for those whose vision of peace does not include the State of Israel.”

The Unitarian Universalists, another mainline Protestant church that held its general assembly last week, also voted on an Israel divestment measure. Despite gaining 54 percent of vote, the measure failed to secure the necessary two-thirds majority needed for passage.
