Hi Elaine,

Usually you think of forgiveness as a two-sided transaction.

One person asks for forgiveness, and the other person gives forgiveness.

But forgiving people who ask for forgiveness isn't really the ultimate test (although for some people that's difficult enough).

What about repeat offenders?

Peter wondered how many times he should forgive someone who sinned against him repeatedly - up to seven times?

Jesus said, not seven times, but seventy times seven.

That;s 490 times!

And really, that was His way of saying there is no limit; even repeat offenders must be forgiven.

(Because all of us are "repeat offenders" before God.)

Ah, but what about those jerks who don't even ask for forgiveness?

Jesus gave us an example to follow there, too.

From the cross, in the midst of indescribable suffering, He prayed:

"Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."

That is the Divine Mystery of Forgiveness.

If you're waiting for someone to come crawling on their hands and knees begging for forgiveness before you forgive them, I have to say that moment probably will never come.

It's not about "them" but about you.

Jesus offered love to His enemies, forgiveness to sinners, mercy and grace to His murderers.

When we do the same, we break the cycle of evil, vengeance, and wrath.

It's not about Judgment triumphing over Sinners; it's about Mercy triumphing over Judgment.

Join us as we delve more deeply into this mystery, among other things...

FATHER, FORGIVE THEM

Is Jesus Enough?
by Chip Brogden
“After they had eaten, Jesus asked Simon Peter,
‘Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me
more than these other things?'”
John 21:15

If Jesus was all you had, would Jesus be enough for you?

Many precious believers are in love with the things of the Lord, but they are not in love with the Lord Himself. Many Christian workers and ministers are in love with the Lord’s work. Almost without realizing it, the work of the Lord becomes more important than the Lord of the work.

There are prophets and teachers who hold words from God in higher esteem than the God Who speaks the words they attribute as being from Him. People seek these words and teachings. The more they receive, the more they want. Before one word is digested they are craving another. They are seeking “things” – words, prophecies, teachings, visions, dreams – but they are not seeking the Lord Himself.

Is Jesus enough?

When the saints gather together most of the activity is focused on “one another”. This is important, but it is not the most important thing. Fellowship is good: but is Jesus enough? Gatherings are good: but is Jesus enough? Meetings are good: but is Jesus enough? Special speakers and special music are good: but is Jesus enough?

Even with praise and worship it is possible to sing “about” Jesus and not truly worship Jesus. With preaching and teaching it is possible to talk “about” Jesus and not truly meet Jesus in what is shared. In prayer it is possible to talk “about” our needs and never actually commune with Jesus Himself.

Among Christians I have discovered something. There is Jesus, and then there are all the things ABOUT Jesus that are NOT Jesus. Jesus Himself occupies only a small portion of what is said and done in Christian circles. Most of what is said and done is merely ABOUT Jesus, but it is NOT Jesus...

Hi Elaine,

Jesus was so ONE with His Father's Will that it sometimes looked as if He had no will of His own.

But we see an epic struggle in Gethsemane the night before His crucifixion.

It's one you may be familiar with...

YOUR WILL vs. GOD'S WILL.

And Jesus had to endure that struggle, the same as you and me.

He became conscious of a part of Him that preferred another way!

"Take this cup from Me..."

It was a heavy burden, and Jesus might have refused God's Will for being too difficult.

But in the same prayer He says, "Nevertheless, not My Will, but Yours, be done."

I'm encouraged that Jesus struggled in prayer (like we do) and that He prevailed over Himself (like we often fail to do).

In this dramatic scene there is so much for us to learn.

How can we know God's Will?

How can we surrender to His Will when it's difficult?

How can we bounce back after going our own way and rejecting His Will?

So many questions.

Join us for this week's online Bible study as we apply these lessons to our lives.

The Persistent Purpose of God
by Chip Brogden
Once God has determined to do something, is there anything, or anyone, that can resist Him? Is man more powerful than God, or does it only seem that way sometimes?

Some may ask, is not Jesus Lord of all? Is He not already preeminent over all things? In one sense of course this is correct. Jesus is Lord of All (Acts 10:36). However, it is apparent that not all things acknowledge, submit to, cooperate with, or recognize His sovereignty. God desires for Christ to have an actual preeminence, a manifest preeminence – a sovereignty that is observable, tangible, and able to be experienced.

Obviously this desire of God, this Ultimate Purpose, remains unfulfilled. If Jesus were acknowledged as Lord of All, by everyone everywhere, then the world would certainly be a different place. As it is, it seems most of humanity fails to recognize the Lordship of Jesus and refuses to submit to Him. Thus, in a very practical sense, He does not have preeminence in them. That disparity between what God wants and what actually is needs to be resolved...

Hi Elaine,

Love is known as the "greatest commandment."

But if love must be freely given, how can you "command" love?

In this podcast episode of Outside the Camp, we consider what the Law of Love is all about, why it is impossible for us to obey it, and how God empowers us to fulfill it in spite of our weakness.

Listen now:

Hi Elaine,

Amazing how, right up to the very end, the disciples are still disputing among themselves over which of them would be the greatest!

Pretty typical, right?

Even more amazing is how Luke does not gloss over this fact, or present the disciples as super-spiritual giants.

They were ordinary men who had an extraordinary life following Jesus.

They weren't perfect then, and they weren't perfect later, even with the Holy Spirit leading and guiding them.

Jesus did not demand perfection, but He worked with what He had.

Same for you and for me :-)
Our online Bible study this week focuses on these final moments Jesus had with His disciples and the last lessons He conveyed to them.

These are truths we need to go back and experience again.

Will you join us?

Hi Elaine,

Predicting days, times, and seasons is a favorite pastime for amateur Bible prophecy teachers.

It's only natural.

Whenever someone makes a prediction or a prophecy about things to come, we want to know WHEN.

And when the disciples heard Jesus predicting the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple, they naturally wanted to know, "WHEN will these things be?"

It's a question that Jesus did not answer directly.

That's because (I believe) the answer is two-fold.

It had a literal fulfillment THEN.

But it has a prophetic fulfillment LATER.

It's one of those prophetic double meanings.

Join us for this week's study as we rightly divide the Word and see which applies to THEN and which applies to NOW.

Hi Elaine!

I just completed a massive project...

Over the last 20 years I've been doing these chapter-by-chapter studies of the Bible.

This year I will have completed teaching the entire New Testament.

And I wanted to give these messages the widest possible distribution so we can reach more people with a Christ-centered message.

To do that, I put all these teachings (283 episodes and more than 323 hours of recordings) into a free podcast called "Thru the Bible with Chip Brogden."

The good news is that the podcast is now available worldwide on any devices via iTunes, iHeart Radio, Spotify, YouTube, Spreaker, Google Play, Castbox, Deezer, and Podcast Addict.

So you can SUBSCRIBE to the podcast at any of those places where you listen to podcasts.

OR, you can visit my site and listen, download, and share them from here:
https://chipbrogden.com/ttb

But here's what I need help with...

If you get some time, browse through the Bible teachings on my site and let me know if anything is missing, broken, or out-of-order.

So far I know I'm missing Matthew 3, Romans 4, and 1 Thessalonians 5.

I also know I'm missing Luke 21, 22, 23, and 24 (because that's what we're studying now).

Anything else missing?

Let me know!

Have a great weekend.

Hi Elaine,

"Judgment on the religious system."

Sounds bad, negative, scary, right?

Not if you've seen the Church (Ekklesia) that Jesus is building.

The sooner we let go of man's church and become God's Temple, the better!

Hi Elaine,

Jesus entered Jerusalem, weeping over the judgment that would come upon it.

At the heart of this judgment was the religious system - that whole Temple-based worship of God, controlled by multiple layers of religious authority: chief priests, scribe, elders, Pharisees, and Sadducees.

Jesus did not endorse their system of worship; instead, He exposed it as a hypocritical sham.

What a shock it must have been to realize that this religion about God had become more important than God Himself.

Traditions of men were more important than Love, Light, and Life.

Indeed, this religious system sought to destroy the Son of God, and successfully betrayed Him to the Romans for crucifixion.

Amazingly, Christianity is doing (has done) the same thing that Judaism did.

But, whereas Judaism only dominated one small nation and one small city, Christianity (or as I like to say, "Churchianity") dominates billions of people and is currently the largest religion on earth.

And yet, this Religion About Jesus has become more important than a Relationship With Jesus.

So how can we read about God's judgment on Judaism and think that God's won't judge Churchianity?

Hopefully, we will learn the lessons recorded for us in Scripture and not make the same mistakes.

Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS - Page 6 10104111

Enter the Kingdom
by Chip Brogden
We live in a day of easy-believism. According to the way today’s church operates, it is very easy to be saved. All we have to do is make a confession, or repeat a prayer, or make a decision, or respond to an altar call.

In stark contrast to the conditions which exist in our day, Jesus frankly tells us that few will be saved, and few will find Life. When we read what Jesus Himself has to say we have to come to the conclusion that some within Organized Religion are guilty of trying to make the narrow gate and the narrow path into the wide gate and the wide path. We have become excellent salespeople and know how to use our powers of persuasion. We have become good at arguing our viewpoints. We are skilled at manipulating the emotions of other people. Those who know how can lead many people to the Lord – at least, according to the outward appearance.

It behooves us to go back to what the Lord Himself says, and we believe we have found at least seven occurrences in the Scriptures (beyond the two cited above) which seem to indicate that the way to Life is anything but easy. By the time we are concluded with our examination we will understand why Jesus says few are able to enter into the Kingdom. In the first place, the Kingdom is more profound than we have been taught. In the second place, the Way which leads us into the Kingdom is more narrow than we have been taught. By the grace of God let us ask the Lord enlighten us so that we will not go on deceiving or being deceived...

One was after Lazarus died, when He wept at their unbelief.

The other was as He entered Jerusalem, when He wept at its failure to repent.

That was the "triumphal entry" where everyone else shouted Hosanna and was praising God.

It seems like an odd moment to be sad.

It seems like everyone "accepted" Him.

But in less than week, they would crucify Him.

Could a similar thing be happening now, before His return?

Join us as we begin studying the final week of Jesus' earthly ministry.

Family, Fellowship and Leadership
by Chip Brogden
This is how Religion gets a foothold – we become concerned with the outward elements, like meetings: how to meet, what to do when we meet, who’s in charge, blah blah blah blah blah.

Would you agree that everyone has different ideas on those things?  It’s really no different than talking about what color should the carpet in the sanctuary be – red, or blue?  Who cares?  So when people focus on fellowship as a verb, that’s what you get.  And it isn’t profitable to your spiritual life to become consumed with those things.  We will never get agreement on them, and everyone tends to identify with the groups that most closely resemble what they think the “ideal” meeting or fellowship is supposed to look like.

Let me tell you how I view the Body of Christ, and then you’ll understand how I view fellowship, and then you’ll understand how I view leadership.  My thoughts can be summed up in three points...

Hi Elaine,

During tonight's online Bible study we'll discuss one of the great mysteries of life:

The mystery of unanswered prayer.

Or, answers to prayer that seem to take forever to arrive.

We'll look at some reasons why that may be and how we might respond to it.

Among other things.

One of the things we'll cover is how Jesus responded to His disciples when they said, "Lord, increase our faith!"

Very interesting. Don't miss it!

Hi Elaine,

Some of the greatest prayers in the Bible are also the shortest:

"Lord, save me!"

"Lord I believe; help my unbelief!"

"Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!"

"God be merciful to me, a sinner!"

"My Lord and My God!"

These deep heart-cries activate something I like to call the Divine Mystery of Forgiveness.

Forgiveness is a powerful, disruptive spiritual force.

Disruptive, because it breaks the cycle of violence and arrests the returning of evil for evil.

God demonstrates it by forgiving us first, releasing salvation and healing.

Then, once we have experienced God's forgiveness, we can extend that forgiveness to others.

Someone has said that unforgiveness is like drinking poison and hoping the other person will die.

Remember: Those who deserve mercy the least are the ones who need it the most.

And somewhere in there we find you and me - all of us have gone astray, turned aside, fallen short, missed the mark.

Some more than others, true.

But our message is that failure isn't fatal; where sin abounds, grace abounds even more.

This impacts you on every level... it affects every relationship you have: past, present and future.

Learning to give and receive forgiveness is not just about the other person, but about healing yourself so you can move on.

Powerful principles that we'll explore in this week's online Bible study:

God's Saving Judgments:
A Fresh Look
by Chip Brogden
"For the Lord will not cast off for ever:
but though He cause grief, yet will He have compassion according to the multitude of His mercies. For He does not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men."
(Lam. 3:31-33)

We may have difficulty reconciling the image of a brokenhearted God Who wants to restore the nations with One Who sends a flood to destroy the earth and rains down fire on cities like Sodom and Gomorrah. How do we explain the many passages of Scripture which refer to God’s judgment on the nations and His wrath towards sinners? Does the Bible contradict itself, or have we simply failed to interpret it correctly?

7 Kingdom Misconceptions
by Chip Brogden | Christ & The Kingdom of God, Featured
The interesting thing about secular history is it constantly repeats itself. Spiritual history is no different. The Christian Religion is following a parallel path to the Jewish Religion and will suffer the same fate.

Just like Israel of old, Institutional Christianity has given up its pursuit of the Irresistible Kingdom of God, and forsaken the Heavenly Order of things where Christ is Head; instead, they have set their sights on political power, wealth, and position.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. So far we Christians have done an excellent job of duplicating and perpetuating the same old Jewish misconceptions, even adding a few interesting twists to further compound the error...
