5 Jewish reasons to love Vera Lynn!
Ahead of a national singalong of 'We'll Meet Again' on the 75th anniversary of VE Day, we compile all the heimische reasons to celebrate this 103-year-old British icon...!

Vera Lynn, a British icon
On Friday, 8 May, the nation has been asked to join in a mass singalong of We’ll Meet Again, the 1939 song made famous by Dame Vera Lynn, aka “the Forces’ Sweetheart”, in celebration of 75 years since VE Day. Here’s the top five heimische reasons to celebrate this beloved 103-year-old singer…

The bandleader who made her famous
Bert Ambrose, born Benjamin Baruch Ambrose in Warsaw, 1896, was a well-known English bandleader and violinist. After forming his own, highly-acclaimed dance band in the 1930s, Ambrose went on to discover a number of new acts, including Vera Lynn, who sang with his orchestra from 1937 to 1940…leading to her meeting her Jewish husband.
A musical match!
In 1941, Lynn married Harry Lewis, a clarinetist and saxophonist, and fellow member of Ambrose’s orchestra, who she had met two years earlier. The couple moved to Finchley after the war and had a daughter, Virginia. Harry died in 1998.

Kind to the Kinder
In a 2017 interview with The Guardian, magician and mentalist David Berglas revealed his special connection to Dame Vera, as a German-Jewish refugee. He said: “She was one of the few artists to do a show for Jewish refugee children, to bring them over before war broke out. She was singing with the Ambrose orchestra and took part in a charity show to raise funds to get them out of Germany. I thank her from the bottom of my heart – because I was one of those children.”
Music maestros
We’ll Meet Again became an iconic song of reuniting with loved ones after the war, but Dame Vera scored success with two other wartime hits: The White Cliffs of Dover, which was penned by Walter Kent and lyricist Nat Burton, born Nat Schwartz, and A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square, which was composed by Manning Sherwin and had lyrics by Eric Maschwitz, the son of a Jewish-Lithuanian immigrant.
Seen on screen
Dame Vera’s version of We’ll Meet Again has been frequently referenced in popular culture since it was first released in 1939 – and most recently by the Queen in her lockdown speech to the nation. But it was also most famously used in Jewish director Stanley Kubrick’s cult 1964 black comedy, Dr Strangelove, starring Peter Sellers and George C Scott.

Can A Nation Be Born In A Day? Celebrating Israel’s Independence Day Empty RESURRECTION OF ISRAEL Ezekiel 37:5

Post  Admin on Wed 29 May 2019, 3:15 pm

Can A Nation Be Born In A Day? Celebrating Israel’s Independence Day Ezekie10

A HEBREW SAGE MIGHT SAY. . .
If one cannot understand indirect remarks, he will not understand plain ones either.

RESURRECTION OF ISRAEL
"Thus says the LORD GOD to these bones — I will cause breath to enter into you and you shall live again." [Ezekiel (Yehezke-El) 37. 5 Tanakh, Nevi'im]

This vision of the "Valley of Dry Bones" had disconnected and scattered body parts everywhere.  It was humanly impossible for these bones to live but, GOD ALMIGHTY told Ezekiel to preach to them.  At the preaching of the WORD OF GOD, the bones came together.  The ETERNAL ONE put sinews and flesh upon the skeletons making them into bodies; but, with no life in them.  Then the Breath or Spirit (Hebrew: ruwach) was put into them which caused them to stand upright and live again.  The LORD GOD MOST HOLY described these bones as the Whole House of Israel who had been dead and whom HE would cause to come up out of their graves from every land where HE had scattered them.
"In that day this song shall be sung in the land of Judah — Ours is a mighty city; the HOLY ONE makes victory our inner and outer wall.  Open the gates, and let the righteous nation enter, a nation that keeps faith and truth.  YOU have increased the nation, O LORD, when YOU added to the nation; extending all the boundaries of the land, YOU are glorified and honored.  Oh, let YOUR dead revive and live! Let corpses arise! Together with my dead body they shall arise.  Awake and sing, shout for joy, you who dwell in dust!  For your dew is like the dew on fresh growth of herbs; YOU make the land of the shades come to life and the earth shall cast out the dead.  O come, MY people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you.  Hide but a little moment, until the indignation passes.  For behold! the LORD shall come forth from HIS place to punish the dwellers of the earth for their iniquity.  And the earth shall disclose its bloodshed and shall no longer conceal its slain." [Isaiah (Yeshayah) 26. 1, 2, 15, 19 - 21 Tanakh, Nevi'im]
"For the LORD has built Zion; HE has appeared in all HIS glory." [Psalms (Tehillym) 102. 16 Tanakh, Kethuvim]  Zion refers not only to Jerusalem, but to those who live in that City.  The MASTER DESIGNER is speaking of a literal city and a literal people in connection with HIS literal appearance.  The ALMIGHTY ONE will revive the Jewish people spiritually, politically and nationally.
The GLORIOUS LORD GOD will revive Israel and put them back in their own land which HE promised to Abraham and will set one KING over them.  "The LORD will pardon Jacob, and will again choose Israel, and will settle them on THEIR OWN SOIL." [Isaiah (Yeshayah) 14. 1 Tanakh, Nevi'im]

There is a rebirth of the land as well as of the people of Zion.  ALMIGHTY GOD is giving them the very breath of spiritual life.  That life can only come through faith in the PROMISED ANOINTED ONE OF GOD.  They are coming out of their graves of spiritual death and receiving eternal life by receiving Y’SHUA OF NAZARETH as their long-awaited REDEEMER-MESSIAH, the SOON-COMING KING.  Truly, Y’SHUA ha'MASHIACH is THE PROMISED ONE OF GOD to come to Israel WHO will be their RIGHTEOUS KING in Zion.  GOD promised that one KING will rule in "That Day" when Zion would be built up.

Will you be one of GOD’S called and chosen?  Won't you allow the MESSIAH to rule as LORD of your life?  The LORD Y’SHUA  is coming back very shortly for HIS OWN special people.  Be ready!

Sha’alu (Pray) for the Shalom (Peace) of Jerusalem and all of Israel!
Redeem Israel, O ELOHIYM, out of all their troubles!
If I forget you, O Yerushalayim, let my right hand wither.”  Psalms 137:5
Farewell blessings to Sabbath.  We praise YOU, MOST HOLY GOD and ask that YOUR PRESENCE be manifest to us in all YOUR works, so that reverence for YOU may fill the hearts of YOUR creatures.  May all the children of men bow before YOU in humility and unite to do YOUR will with one heart, that all may acknowledge that YOURS alone is the power, dominion and majesty; and that YOUR NAME is exalted above all.
Shalom U'Vrakah — Peace & Blessings!
Day 35 of L’ Omer

Praying for the peace of Jerusalem, is praying for the return of our Messiah and Lord and for the Kingdom of God He is bringing when He comes.  Then God's Will shall be done on earth as it is in Heaven and the world will experience true godly universal peace which is the fruit of Righteousness.

Can A Nation Be Born In A Day? Celebrating Israel’s Independence Day Isaiah12

Can A Nation Be Born In A Day? Celebrating Israel’s Independence Day
By ONE FOR ISRAEL (Messianic Jews In Israel)
There are two very significant days for Israel that come right after each other – a day of mourning followed by a day of rejoicing. First there is the annual Memorial Day for all those who have died in Israel’s struggle to exist, either in the armed forces or as a result of terrorism. It is a day of solemn recognition that there have been many casualties in the birth and continued existence of the State of Israel. As it often seems to be in the Jewish way of life, the bitter and the sweet are juxtaposed – almost without time to catch a breath. The following day is Israel’s Independence Day, when the nation breaks out into a huge party to celebrate its reestablishment after a 2000 year exile.

The Sound of Sirens
The Jewish day starts the evening of the day before… so Memorial Day officially begins in the evening at 20:00, with a siren that lasts for one minute, and a ceremony at the Western Wall. The next morning at 11:00, a siren will wail throughout the land for two minutes, and everybody will stop what they are doing and stand in silence. Even people driving on highways will get pull over and get out of their car in memory of all those who have perished. 23,645 have been killed in the line of duty[1] leaving many thousands of families bereaved, and 3,134 civilians have died as a result of terror attacks since 1948. There are services to commemorate those who have fallen and to honour their memory. Then later that very evening, the mood shifts 180 degrees, and celebration erupts on the streets for Independence day.

Miracle Birth
The British began to remove their troops towards the end of April 1948. On May 14 1948, David Ben-Gurion, the chairman of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, announced the formation of the new state of Israel. He said,

“The Nazi Holocaust, which engulfed millions of Jews in Europe, proved anew the urgency of the reestablishment of the Jewish State, which would solve the problem of Jewish homelessness by opening the gates to all Jews and lifting the Jewish people to equality in the family of nations.” [2]

Ben Gurion saw the horrors of the Holocaust as paving the way to the birth of a Jewish State, and he was not alone in making such a suggestion. Would the miracle of the recreation of Israel ever have happened without such an atrocity on a scale that we can still barely comprehend? These questions are impossible for earth-bound humanity to answer, but again, we see the closely bound bitter and sweet, almost too close for comfort.

And what was a day of astonishing joy for the Jewish people was also a day of sorrow and anguish for the Arabs who suddenly no longer owned the land they had been living in for generations. Again, joy and pain uncomfortably closely together. Whilst we can rejoice in God’s fulfilled promises and a new start for Israel, we also know that this day is not an easy one for all of her inhabitants. God still cares deeply for all the peoples of this area and seeks to give them their blessing, hope and salvation. Whilst many Arab Christians will struggle with celebrating this day, there are numbers of Arab believers who truly rejoice in God’s physical restoration of Israel, and seek her spiritual restoration promised in the scripture. This too, is a miracle, and the handiwork of an awesome God.

For God had determined that he would regather his people and plant them back in the land he had chosen for them. And he promised that it would happen in one day flat:

“Who has ever heard of such things? Who has ever seen things like this? Can a country be born in a day, or a nation be brought forth in a moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children. Do I bring to the moment of birth and not give delivery?” says the LORD. “Do I close up the womb when I bring to delivery?” says your God. “Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad for her, all you who love her; rejoice greatly with her, all you who mourn over her.” (Isaiah 66:8-10)

The Amplified Bible notes about this verse give this comment:

“Never in the history of the world had such a thing happened before–but God keeps His word. As definitely foretold here and in Ezekiel 37:21, 22, Israel became a recognized nation, actually “born in one day.”

After being away from their homeland for almost 2,000 years, the Jews were given a national homeland in Palestine by the Balfour Declaration in November, 1917. In 1922, the League of Nations gave Great Britain the mandate over Palestine. On May 14, 1948, Great Britain withdrew her mandate, and immediately Israel was declared a sovereign state, and her growth and importance among nations became astonishing.”

Worth The Wait
“For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false.
Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.” Habakkuk 2:3

The church fathers struggled to know how to interpret the numerous references to Israel after hundreds of years had gone by, and the nation of Israel was apparently no more. After the destruction of the temple, the Jewish people were scattered far and wide, and with every passing century it seemed less and less likely that the situation would, or could, ever change. How to make sense of those promises for this nation that seemed to have disappeared for good? The solution they landed upon was to claim all the references and promises should be transferred to the church. Israel had rejected the Messiah, so God had rejected them, and now the church must surely be the true Israel.

“I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means!” Paul strongly rejects this way of thinking in Romans 11, but it’s easy to see why it did look like a forlorn situation. You and I have the privilege denied to millions of believers who have lived and died before us – we know that this prophecy has indeed finally come to pass. We can know that God’s promises to Israel still stand.

God promised to regather the exiles from the four corners of the earth and he promised to reestablish Israel. It just took an awfully long time. People gave up and got confused during the wait. What a great reminder this is for us to hold on to God’s promises and not give up! Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come.
