In midst of apology for anti-Semitic cartoon, New York Times publishes yet another

In midst of apology for anti-Semitic cartoon, New York Times publishes yet another(VG via JNS)

Andrea Levin, president and executive director of CAMERA, told JNS it is “striking” that the Times would publish another cartoon that denigrates Netanyahu just days after the latest firestorm.
By Jackson Richman, JNS
Despite apologizing on Sunday for running an anti-Semitic cartoon that ran in its international edition on Thursday, The New York Times publised another anti-Semitic cartoon in the same edition over the weekend.
The weekend cartoon by Norwegian cartoonist Roar Hagen depicts Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with sinister eyes taking a picture of himself with a selfie-stick, carrying in what appears to be an empty desert a tablet featuring the Israeli flag painted on it.
The cartoon also resembles a different one from the same cartoonist featuring Netanyahu carrying a tablet that resembles the Ten Commandments, which the Israelites received in the desert after fleeing their enslaved lives in Egypt, in what appears to be a desert being followed by a sinister-looking U.S. President Donald Trump, both walking in the opposite parallel of a directional sign marked “Golan,” a reference to the Golan Heights.
Trump officially recognized Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan last month.
TheTimes did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Thursday’s cartoon featured U.S. President Donald Trump wearing a yarmulke, sporting dark-tinted glasses and being led by a dog with the face of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with a large blue Star of David hanging from its collar.
On Sunday, the publication said that it was “deeply sorry,” and that it “investigated how this happened and learned that, because of a faulty process, a single editor working without adequate oversight downloaded the syndicated cartoon and made the decision to include it on the Opinion page. The matter remains under review, and we are evaluating our internal processes and training. We anticipate significant changes.”
Appropriate for Der Stürmer
Times columnist Bret Stephens responded harshly to Thursday’s cartoon, which was printed above a column about immigration from Thomas L. Friedman.
“Here was an image that, in another age, might have been published in the pages of Der Stürmer,” he wrote in a piece published on Sunday. “The Jew in the form of a dog. The small but wily Jew leading the dumb and trusting American. The hated Trump being Judaized with a skullcap. The nominal servant acting as the true master. The cartoon checked so many anti-Semitic boxes that the only thing missing was a dollar sign.”
“The image also had an obvious political message: Namely, that in the current administration, the United States follows wherever Israel wants to go,” continued Stephens. “This is false—consider Israel’s horrified reaction to Trump’s announcement last year that he intended to withdraw U.S. forces from Syria—but it’s beside the point. There are legitimate ways to criticize Trump’s approach to Israel, in pictures as well as words. But there was nothing legitimate about this cartoon.”
Stephens added, “The problem with the cartoon isn’t that its publication was a willful act of anti-Semitism. It wasn’t. The problem is that its publication was an astonishing act of ignorance of anti-Semitism—and that, at a publication that is otherwise hyper-alert to nearly every conceivable expression of prejudice, from mansplaining to racial microaggressions to transphobia.”
‘Obsession with smearing Israel’
Andrea Levin, president and executive director of CAMERA, told JNS it is “striking” that the Times would publish another cartoon that denigrates Netanyahu just days after the latest firestorm.

An Irish BDS activist, in an effort to camouflage his true intentions, refuses to call a spade a spade.

Irish broadcaster and former Eurovision commentator Mike Murphy suggests “passing” on the Eurovision song contest, which takes place this May in Tel Aviv, rather than using the word “boycott” in order to win a more favorable response to the anti-Israel agenda.

Referring to Israel’s alleged “apartheid” practices, he outrageously compares Israel’s separation wall – built to protect innocent men, women and children from Palestinian terror attacks – to the Nazi boycott of Jewish businesses in the 1930s.

Mike Murphy craftily proposes Irish State boycott of Eurovision 2019 using UN Security Council seat
Watch and witness Murphy’s deceitfulness!

Published on 9 Oct 2018
Irish National broadcaster RTÉ’s Claire Byrne Live Show on Monday 8th October 2018.
Mike Murphy, a Machiavellian figure, paints Israel negatively, while using cunning and unscrupulous outside rewards of prestige within the U.N., as a motivation for the Irish people, were they to punish Israel.
Former RTÉ TV host Mike Murphy v Christian Friends of Israel’s Patrick Monaghan on the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign’s (IPSC) call to boycott the 2019 Eurovision in Israel.
Mike Murphy, who is a supporter of the IPSC, spoke first in a pre-recorded slot with Claire Byrne for two-thirds of the allotted interview time. The time allotted to Mike Murphy slot was 0 - 7.21 minutes. Paddy Monaghan, who was speaking from a position in the audience, came on afterwards, at 7.36 - 10.40 minutes.
Mike Murphy started off by saying that it was a shame the “Israeli and Jewish people, who have gone through what they have gone through in the Holocaust are now doing what they are doing to the Palestinian people”. He then made a further two references to the Holocaust, erroneously claiming it was Claire Byrne who brought the subject up.

It’s quite obvious that Mike Murphy is no impartial observer here. He completely dismissed the opinion of the “settler” he was introduced to while in Israel, who had expressed his own historical claims to the land of Israel. Murphy then quickly went on to make another reference to the Holocaust, making the outrageous claim that the “abused had become the abuser”.
Murphy said that Israel would use the Eurovision for its own “propaganda” purposes and labeled Israel an “apartheid regime”. Completely dismissing Claire Byrnes’s suggestions of hypocrisy in not calling for boycotts of other countries who have human rights records we might not agree with, Murphy suggests that Israelis will hide Palestinian suffering from the Eurovision fans, just like the Nazis hid their antisemitism from Olympic fans in Berlin in 1936.
Knowing full well that RTÉ is not going to boycott Eurovision 2019, he then took the onus off RTÉ boycotting the event and suggested it should be an Irish State “inspired” boycott.
Murphy doesn’t like the nasty word “boycott” by the way. He would prefer that the Irish State “take a pass this year and gracefully sit it out”.

For Murphy and the IPSC, the coup d'état of this particular discussion is the suggestion that the Irish State, via foreign minister, Simon Coveney, should boycott (sorry, gracefully sit out) the 2019 Eurovision so that Ireland might be better disposed to gaining a coveted seat on the UN Security Council. Those countries who have the vote would, Murphy suggests, would “be very positively disposed towards us”.
This is a very disturbing, but hardly surprising development.  Murphy is saying that Ireland's interests should rise and be furthered, within the community of nations, by (wrongfully) standing on Israel; that the agenda and incentive to do so, should be that of Irish nationalism and esteem.  Instead of focusing just on the rights and wrongs of the matter under discussion. By doing this, Murphy is in a Machiavellian manner, tempting the Irish mind with a carrot, which is cunning, scheming and unscrupulous.

Paddy Monaghan did an admirable job in defending Israel, making three points explaining why Israel cannot be considered an apartheid state. He then made the equally valid point that Ireland adheres to the internationally recognised definition of anti-Semitism (IHRA), and that to single Israel out over other states and their internal affairs, is considered anti-Semitism.

British museum exhibit features postcard accusing Israel of ethnic cleansing

The postcard in question is listed as number 19, by Gathered Images, entitled “Ethnic Cleansing.”
By Benjamin Kerstein, The Algemeiner
A new exhibit at the British Museum in London features a postcard accusing Israel of ethnically cleansing the Palestinians.

The exhibit titled, “The World Exists to Be Put on a Postcard,” opened on February 7 and showcases over 300 postcards created by major artists over the past half century. They are part of a much larger collection of over 1,000 cards recently donated to the museum. The exhibit runs until August 4.
Many of the postcards featured are political in nature, including an anti-war image by Yoko Ono and John Lennon, a work by Jasper Johns against the Vietnam War and a collection of feminist images by Jill Posener, among others.
The postcard in question is listed as number 19, by Gathered Images, entitled “Ethnic Cleansing.”
It features four maps of Israel in which the territory of what is marked “Palestine” appears in green, while what appears to be Israeli territory is shown in white. The maps purport to show the diminution of Palestinian territory over the years, with the green areas steadily shrinking under dates listed as 1946, 1947, 1948-1967 and 1999. The maps are a common image used in anti-Israel propaganda.
The postcard features what appears to be a poem above the maps, with the author listed as Michael Rosen. It seems to describe an Arab family claiming a Jewish home belongs to them. They cite documents proving this, but the owners cite the Bible instead. Asked who wrote their “documents” of ownership, the Jews reply, “God wrote them, look, here come His tanks.”
A British Museum spokesperson told The Algemeiner, “These postcards are an individual collector’s choice, the British Museum is a neutral body and doesn’t take any political stance. There are lots of strong views expressed across the show through these postcards which will not appeal to all visitors. The show is about how artists both past and present choose to express themselves on postcards, any offense is unintentional.”

Led by Nancy Pelosi, House Democrats dropped the ball on condemning anti-Semitism

Led by Nancy Pelosi, House Democrats dropped the ball on condemning anti-Semitism

Led by veteran House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, congressional Democrats have completely botched the anti-Semitism controversy gripping the lower chamber in recent weeks. A House resolution passed on Thursday was originally drafted to condemn freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) for making a series of anti-Semitic remarks, but Democrats watered down the bill significantly after facing pressure from radical progressive groups.

By refusing to take a stand, Pelosi excused Omar’s hate speech and ensured that bigotry would prevail among her colleagues. In doing so, the Democratic Party has effectively endorsed anti-Semitism.

Catastrophic fail
Pelosi, who took possession of the speaker’s gavel in January, had the opportunity to appropriately address the scandal during its earliest stages. After Omar tweeted, “It’s all about the Benjamins” to suggest that Jewish lobbyists paid to silence criticism of Israel, Republicans asked Pelosi to strip the Minnesota congresswoman of her seat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Democrats failed to take action a second time when, less than three weeks later, Omar told a progressive town hall audience that members of Congress were expected to pledge “allegiance” to Israel. This time, however, a bipartisan backlash forced Pelosi to do something, and Democrats began negotiating the details of a resolution designed to take a public stand against anti-Semitic hate.

At least, that’s what Americans expected of their congressional representatives. Instead, members of the Congressional Black Caucus and Congressional Progressive Caucus revolted, demanding that the House majority leader consult with them before taking any legislative action against Omar, whom they turned into the victim of anti-Muslim bias.

Making excuses
Pelosi eventually surrendered to the radical elements of her party, endorsing a resolution that refused to mention Omar by name and instead suggested that any criticism leveled against her was the product of Islamophobia.

The New York Post editorial board summed up the proceedings nicely: “Democrats hate hate — but when it comes to a hater in their own midst, they’ll make excuses or even elevate the bigot.”

Omar’s supporters made frail arguments that the freshman congresswoman was merely criticizing an oppressive foreign power, and Pelosi later admitted that she “doesn’t believe” Omar’s comments were “intended in any anti-Semitic way.” But these excuses should be dismissed outright.

Hammingtons

Trulibrarian
“The complaints come when she denounces Jews and Zionists as disloyal, money-grubbing hypnotists who control US policy,” the Post explained. Omar’s insulting comments represent classic anti-Semitic tropes that have been utilized for decades by some of history’s most odious and subversive forces.

Facing the music
Moreover, Omar doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt which Democrats have so generously bestowed upon her. In 2012, before she began a career as a public servant, Omar tweeted: “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.”

When it comes to stunning acts of bigotry, public figures aren’t typically afforded as many chances as Omar has received. But Democrats have displayed an unusual level of tolerance when it comes to the Minnesota legislator — a remarkable act of clemency that will surely come with a hefty political price tag in 2020.

Democrats made their bed with Omar’s anti-Semitism. Now, it’s time to lay in it.

Busted: Rep. Ilhan Omar deletes tweet after debunking her own claim

Busted: Rep. Ilhan Omar deletes tweet after debunking her own claim
Lorie Shaull / Creative Commons
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is eating her words this weekend.

After Omar claimed that a news outlet misquoted her making disparaging comments about former President Barack Obama, the freshman congresswoman posted an audio tape of the interview to prove her point. But according to Fox News, the tape actually proved that her critics were correct.

Omar has since deleted the tweet.

Moving Far Left
If Democrats are not careful, newly-elected Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is going to cost them more than just the next election.

To most conservatives, Barack Obama was about as far left as one could imagine. But while his loyalty to the country was questioned at times, the accusations he faced were docile compared to recent criticisms of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN).

Saying Omar may be anti-American is not a far-right wing conspiracy theory. Her actions repeatedly question where her true loyalties lie.

Consider the fact Omar toured with Witness for Peace, a group that is openly against American policies and its military.

Consider the numerous posts on her social media accounts that are both anti-Semitic and anti-American.

The cherry on top is Omar’s public pleas for leniency for ISIS sympathizers.

Causing More Problems
But that’s not all. Most recently, scathing comments Omar made about Barack Obama have to come to light.

While Obama is generally regarded by liberals as the most successful presidency in recent Democrat history, Omar accused him of getting away with murder.

In fact, according to Omar, Trump’s policies, which are widely criticized by Democrats, are nothing more than an extension of Obama’s policies.

However, she claimed he was able to get away with such atrocities because of his good looks and smile.

Yet, through all of this, Democrat leadership has failed to rein her in or criticize her for her comments.

That inaction has started to stir rumblings throughout the Democratic Party, especially among Jewish-American lawmakers.

Several presidential candidates, however, have actually voiced their support for Omar, including Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

If Ilhan Omar is the new face of the Democratic Party, Democrats may soon find themselves without much support in this country, as even the most leftist liberals should have issues with Omar.

Will Democrats Fight Anti-Semitism or Cave to Omar’s Supporters?
https://unitedwithisrael.org/will-democrats-fight-anti-semitism-or-cave-to-omars-supporters/?
The chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee said he will not eject Ilhan Omar from the committee over her latest anti-Semitic remarks.

By: JNS

“No, I’m not close to it,” said Rep. Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) on CNN’s “Erin Burnett OutFront” when asked if he would remove Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) from the House Foreign Affairs Committee .

“First of all, it’s not up to me. This is done by the leadership,” he continued. “I don’t know that that would do anything except exacerbate the situation even more. I’m looking to get rid of anti-Semitism, not looking to punish anybody.”

A party’s steering committee also has the authority to remove a member of a congressional committee as was the case with the Republican Steering Committee removing Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) from his committee assignments after he made remarks questioning how terms such as “white supremacist” and “white nationalist” have become “offensive.”

On Sunday, Omar defended her recent remarks accusing her “Jewish colleagues” for attacking her and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) for labeling every criticism of theirs as anti-Israel because of the faith of the two congresswomen, in addition to slamming her critics regarding “the political influence in this country that says it is okay to push for allegiance to a foreign country.”

This evoked condemnation from both parties and from outside groups, including ones in the pro-Israel community.

Organizations such as the Zionist Organization of America and the Endowment for Middle East Truth have taken their condemnations one step further in calling for Omar to be removed from the Foreign Affairs Committee. Members of Congress such as Reps. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) and Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) have called for such action.

Omar also serves on the Education and Labor Committee. Its chairman, Rep. Bobby Scott (D-Va.), did not return a request for comment whether the congresswoman will be removed from the committee.

Democratic House leadership is preparing to schedule a vote on a resolution condemning anti-Semitism that reportedly could come as early as Thursday. The resolution is not expected to call out Omar by name. Democratic members, including the Congressional Black Caucus, have been objecting to the upcoming measure.

Embattled Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar doubled-down on her recent anti-Semitic Twitter tirade Friday; retweeting a post that bizarrely blasted John McCain for his position on Iran and called his daughter’s response to her racist rhetoric “faux outrage.”

Omar retweeted a post Friday morning that stated, “Meghan’s late father literally sang ‘bomb bomb bomb Iran’ and insisted on referring to his Vietnamese captors as ‘g**ks.’ He also, lest we forget, gave the world Sarah Palin. So a little less faux outrage over a former refugee-turned-freshman-respresenative pls.”

A British MP has received death threats since leaving the Labour party over its anti-Semitism.
By World Israel News Staff
A British Labour party member who split from the party in protest over its “culture of anti-Semitism” has received two death threats and was branded a “Jew whore” who should burn “in the ovens,” the Daily Mail reported on Sunday.
Joan Ryan, who quit Labour last month, called police, the paper said, after receiving the threats. One was a handwritten note just over a week ago which used grotesque profanities, saying she defected to Israel and should be raped and “set on fire.”
The second letter read: “Stop telling lies about Jeremy Corbyn – he is a decent man, you lying Jew whore. You need to be shoved right back in the ovens.”
Ryan is not even Jewish, but she has spoken out strongly against anti-Semitism in the Labour party.
She also believes she is under surveillance, reporting to Scotland Yard that she saw “a black car that was parked near her constituency office with three men inside,” according to the Mail.
In response to the death threats, the Mail continued, Ryan said: “That people can send such filth-laden, disgusting messages is a shocking testament to how low our politics has now sunk. But the fact that some people think they can do so explains why many of us felt we had to quit the Labour Party last week.
“My main concern now is for the safety of my staff who put in so much hard work in the constituency and in Parliament. However, we must never let up on the fight against the evil of anti-Semitism.”
When Ryan left Labour last month, she said that Corbyn “presided over a culture of anti-Semitism and hatred of Israel,” and that she was “horrified” at Labour’s failure to fight anti-Semitism.
In her parting statement, she said:

Acting Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz caused an uproar last week during an interview with Israeli TV when he quoted former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir as having said, “the Poles suckle anti-Semitism with their mother’s milk.”
As a result, Poland and Czechoslovakia cancelled their participation in a meeting of European Union members in Israel that was to have been taking place the following day. Ultimately, the meeting was canceled all together.

Rep. Ilhan Omar criticized for anti-Semitic tweets within her own party
February 16, 2019 by Jerry McCormick

After being thrown into the spotlight over a tweet that was widely denounced as anti-Semitic, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) says she has learned from her mistake. But in private, at least one member of her own party caught a whiff of arrogance about her apology.

Senator Ron Lantz, a fellow Democrat, stated private talks with her “indicated more of an attitude than mistakes.”

Not Learning
After Omar’s tweets went viral, there were significant calls for Nancy Pelosi to put pressure on Omar to resign her seat.

Omar, however, made it quite clear she was not going to do that. After President Trump said he thought she should resign, Omar lashed out, stating she had learned from her words, something Trump had not.

She even went so far as to say Trump has exploited hate his entire life.

Senator Lantz, however, did not agree that Omar had learned anything from her discussions with members of the Jewish community.

Lantz called her attitude “troubling,” and said Omar “doesn’t seem to be learning” from the discussions she has had with leadership among the Jewish community.

Suddenly Forgiving
Those that were not criticizing her were making excuses for her behavior.

While every liberal on the planet criticized Trump from his very first day in office, most of those backing up Omar attributed her mistakes to her inexperience as a politician.

We saw phrases like “rookie mistake” and “learning curve” being used to describe her actions.

Ironically, one supporter of Omar’s, Isaiah Breen, stated the very people criticizing Omar, including Trump, “have endured the scrutiny that Ilhan faces.”

Really?

Every word and gesture Trump makes is put under a microscope in an effort to portray him as a racist.

We have to give props to Lantz for actually telling the truth, compared to the rest of his fellow Democrats and liberals that continue to prove the Democrat party is the party of hypocrisy and hate.

Massive spike in anti-Semitic violence in Germany in 2018

Anti-Semitic crimes rose almost 10 percent in Germany last year, and violent attacks were up more than 60 percent, crime statistics showed Wednesday.

Police recorded 1,646 offences motivated by hatred against Jews, said a government answer to a request by far-left Die Linke party lawmaker Petra Pau.

Among these were 62 violent offences that left 43 people injured, up from 37 physical attacks the previous year.

Germany, like other western countries, has watched with alarm as anti-Semitic and other racist hate speech and violence have increased in recent years as the political climate has coarsened and grown more polarized.

A mass influx of mostly Muslim refugees and migrants to Germany from 2015 fueled the growth of far-right movements and nationalist parties, including the AfD.

Leading AfD members, aside from railing against Islam and multiculturalism, have also made comments that play down the Holocaust.

Party co-leader Alexander Gauland described Nazi Germany's industrial-scale murder of Jews and other minorities as a mere "speck of bird poo in over 1,000 years of successful German history".

Another leading AfD politician, Bjoern Hoecke, has criticized the sprawling Holocaust memorial in Berlin as a "monument of shame".

The president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Josef Schuster, and other Jewish community leaders have accused the AfD of fomenting hate against refugees, Muslims and Jews.

At the same time, Germany has also witnessed a rise in anti-Semitic attacks committed by migrants from Arab states.

In one prominent case last year a 19-year-old Syrian man was convicted for assault after lashing out with his belt at an Israeli man wearing a Jewish kippa skullcap while shouting "yahudi", Jew in Arabic.

A video of the street assault, filmed by the victim on his smartphone, had sparked widespread public revulsion as it spread on social media, and triggered street rallies in solidarity with Jews.

News of the belt attack coincided with another public outcry, over a rap duo who made light of Nazi death camp prisoners but went on to win the music industry's sales-based Echo award, which was subsequently axed.

Days after the belt assault, some 2,000 people rallied at a "Berlin Wears Kippa" solidarity demonstration, matched by smaller events in several other German cities.

Most anti-Semitic crimes were however committed by far-right perpetrators, reported the Berlin daily Tagesspiegel in an article on the new crime statistics.

Pau in her statement charged that "we are seeing that militant right-wing extremists can openly call for the desecration of Jewish institutions and attacks against Jewish people".

A rising number of people and groups in the "grey zone between conservatism and right-wing extremism are denying the Holocaust and engaging in anti-Semitic agitation," she said.

ANTISEMITISM: THE OLDEST HATRED GONE VIRAL
https://israelforever.org/interact/blog/antisemitism_the_oldest_hatred_gone_viral/?utm_content=Link+382107Tags: Activism, Advocacy, Antisemitism, Jewish Identity, Terror, Zionism, Elana Heideman
By Dr. Elana Yael Heideman

Academics from both Israeli and American institutions of learning came together to address the Oldest Hatred Gone Viral, a symposium hosted by NGO Monitor and the World Jewish Congress in Tel Aviv. Professors Dina Porat, Alvin Rosenfeld and Menachem Rosensaft each shared remarks on the continued study of Antisemitism from the past to the present, highlighting the memory of the esteemed Robert Wistrich Z”L, who dedicated much of his work to exposing and analyzing the social, political, and intellectual trends related to Antisemitism, the oldest and longest hatred in the world. In their presentations, each reflected on the state of antisemitism today, its correlation with and distinction from events in history, and how to address the uniqueness of Jew-hatred in a world where racism, bigotry and extremist views are increasingly dominant.

Does academic discussion of antisemitism reflect the reality of Antisemitism experienced by Jews today?

Conclusions regarding Antisemitism are often derived from within, or rather, in comparison with other disciplines focused on those deprived of rights in sections of society - as another way of looking at post-colonial, post-modernist impact. Often Antisemitism is expressed alongside anti-Zionism by scholars for whom Antisemitism is not the major issue, and in fact is disregarded, as is the deprivation of rights of the Jewish People. The resulting value judgments of the situation are based solely on black and white analysis, with little room for accuracy, and certainly no empathy for the Jewish experience that preceded and could teach about the deprivation of civil and human rights that are so prominent in the social discussions of today.

Delving into the academic review of Antisemitism, one can easily encounter a possible discrepancy in the current practices: mainly, does the scope of events as we see them in the academic or analytic fields effectively represent the way Jews feel today as individuals, as communities, around the world? As the analysis of past vs. present continues, we must question: Is it possible that the concern and anxiety of the Jews in the social realms is insufficiently reflected in the academic studies, Pew reports and reporting analytics? Is it possible that these numbers lack accuracy because of the increased tendency to disregard, ignore or be apathetic to instances of Antisemitism because of the prevalent reality that very little will ever come of complaining or reporting it?

Porat emphasizes that “we must take it in proportion and avoid comparison with the 1930s.” She emphasized as the main difference that Jews who lived in that time had no idea what awaited in the next decade. However, the pogroms of earlier decades were not unknown. One must only read Bialik’s City of Slaughter to know the extent of the depravity involved in the massacre of Jews in 1903 - which one could easily read and believe it was written about the destruction of the Holocaust 40 years later. But no, social Jew-hatred has been a part of life that Jews continuously brushed aside with the sentiment that “this, too, we will survive, this, too, shall pass, this, too, we shall outlast.”

Has this reaction to Jew-hatred positioned us for the same response in the face new waves of Antisemitism we face today? Moreover, have we become, indeed, so used to the random upheavals that we cannot effectively respond as a collective? And has our collective become so weakened by disagreement over ideologies, philosophies and practice that we cannot even unite in our response when the ancient dragon of hate against Jews rears its ugly head even in the most “civil” of societies?

The violent expressions of Antisemitism might have reduced to some extent, but the social, verbal, and rhetorical have increased. There is no one form, medium, or style of expression of the vitriol of hatred - against Israel, against Zionism, against Jews, Jewish history, Jewish nationalism, Jewish rights.

In highlighting the polarization of what is Antisemitism, how it should be defined, who it includes and how the results of any study should be applied, Professor Rosenfeld emphasized that the study of Antisemitism as its own history, rhetoric, passions doesn’t imply it bears no resemblance to forms of racism and prejudice that have existed over time and related to other peoples.

Professor Rosensaft opened by stating that he is just as concerned by neo-Nazis and white supremacists as by calls from the left for destruction of the Jewish state or delegitimizing our national and ancestral rights. However, he emphasized that minimizing the bigotry from either side will only result in a continued deterioration of consideration of Antisemitism as the longest and oldest hatred which is deserving of study on its own term. He then continued to state that, “respectfully, I disregard claims that Antisemitism is worse or more pernicious.” Rosensaft thus translated the “resemblance” of Antisemitism to racism and other prejudices into a proclamation toward a “collective Jewish obligation” to decentralize the fight against Antisemitism and to, instead, redirect our energies to fight all hate.

The movement to decentralize Antisemitism, to present it as a hate like any other hate, is popular. The question is, does this provide an effective platform for academic study of the phenomenon? More importantly, does this empower the individual Jew, confronted with Antisemitism?

On the contrary, if we just dissolve Antisemitism into a larger category of racism, prejudice, etc., it will inhibit any accurate analysis of its own study and conclusions of which it is certainly well-deserving. In fact, the existing definition of Antisemitism accepted by several international governments has been expanded to include AntiZionism and illegitimate and inaccurate exaggerated criticisms of Israel. Therefore, having distinctions are crucial since there is a good deal of variety in what has become a “free-floating” movement, including symbolical, rhetorical and increasingly violent patterns. But how can the common individual identify, understand or even address these distinctions if they are ill-equipped to respond even if they ARE able to distinguish?

In contrast to Porat’s emphasis on NOT creating parallels between the Holocaust and today, Rosenfeld emphasizes that “one automobile with a “Proud to be an Antisemite” bumper sticker is one too many. Eliminationist ideologies are becoming socially acceptable and this is just one expression of it. What is circulating on the social media networks is even worse. Today, more than ever before, it is easy for hatred to go viral.

While we, the Jewish communities around the world, continue to gather in conferences with panels of experts repeating much of the same facts and philosophies, the anti-groups, the haters of Jews and Israel, are making this hatred fun, sexy and intriguing. From t-shirts to bumper stickers, to rally cries and banners calling for another Holocaust, the viral trends of demonizing the Jews are inviting to those who yes, hate, as well as those who could perhaps be better educated.

Academia provides invaluable frames of reference and context but the world of the individual moves at a different pace. The hatred is viral and will not wait for the conclusion of academic debate.

Ben Shapiro destroyed the world’s view on anti-semitism
By Avi Abelow -  November 4, 2018 1049 0

Ben Shapiro defines exactly where the big threat towards the Jewish people in the United States and Europe is coming from.  In lieu of the Pittsburgh tragedy, Ben explains that the anti-semitic rhetoric of the left is much more prevalent.  Yes, he explains that President Trump should call out the alt-right elements within his supporters, agreeing that antisemitism does exist on the right.  However, this does not compare to the mainstreaming of antisemitism that we are witnessing from the left. Complete silence when known personas, like Farrakhan, Linda Sarsour and others say antisemitic statements. And silence when Jews are murdered for being Jews in Israel and other places. Obama’s reaction to the horrible antisemitic killing of Jews in a supermarket in France was that it was “random”.  Only now, after Pittsburgh, some on the left are singling out President Trump.  No, President Trump is not to blame for this anti-semitic and anti-Trump right-wing lunatic who did the horrible attack in Pittsburgh. Blaming the President not only will not diminish antisemitism, it will only lead to its growth.

VIDEO FB https://israelunwired.com/ben-shapiro-destroyed-the-worlds-view-on-anti-semitism/

Louis Farrakhan
This man is an open anti-semite.  He does not hide his views at all.  He has much support from many – and they are all on the left.  Keith Ellison, a central Democratic Party operative is very close with him.  Shapiro points out that the Left “routinely” doesn’t just hob-nob with these people, but mainlines people like this.  That is because Ellison agrees with Farrakhan.

Just over the ocean, Jeremy Corbyn does the same thing whenever Israel and the Arab terrorists in the Gaza Strip fight each other.

So, if a person claims that the death of a Jew in Jerusalem is any different than the death of a Jew in Pittsburgh, they are flat-out wrong.

Ben Shapiro is right-on.

Pittsburg Synagogue Massacre Leaves Multiple Dead and Injured
Oct 27, 2018 03:36 pm
Pittsburg Synagogue Massacre Leaves Multiple Dead and Injured
(Fox News) A gunman opened fire inside a Pittsburgh synagogue Saturday morning, killing multiple people and injuring six others, including four police officers, before being taken into custody, authorities said. The brazen attack occurred inside the Tree of Life Synagogue in the city’s predominantly Jewish Squirrel Hill neighborhood just 10 minutes from downtown. Multiple law enforcement officials identified the suspect in the shooting as Robert Bowers, 48.

Pittsburgh Public Safety Director Wendell Hissrich said the suspect was taken to a hospital but did not clarify if he was one of the six people injured. A visibly emotional Hissrich told reporters the four officers had non-life threatening injuries while the others were critical. He could not immediately confirm how many people died in the shooting. Hissrich said the incident fell under a hate crime and will be a federal investigation. He said there appeared to be no active threat to the community.

Pittsburgh authorities: 11 fatalities in synagogue attack
The suspected gunman behind Saturday’s shooting in a Pittsburgh synagogue, which left 11 people dead and six more injured, has been formally charged, prosecutors said.

Robert Bowers, 46, was charged late Saturday with 29 federal counts of crimes of violence and firearms offenses after authorities say he carried out an anti-Semitic attack on Shabbat, the Jewish Sabbath. The bloody attack brought swift condemnation from President Trump and other leaders, and inspired a grim vigil in the city on Saturday night that attracted thousands.

The suspect also faces a list of local charges, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Pittsburgh Public Safety Director Wendell Hissrich said police were dispatched to Tree of Life Synagogue at 9:55 a.m. after receiving calls describing an active-shooter situation in the city's predominantly Jewish Squirrel Hill neighborhood.

He confirmed the 11 deaths -- none of them children. As for the injury tally, he said it did not include the shooter, who was taken to the hospital after being taken into custody.

University of Pittsburgh Medical Center officials said a 61-year-old woman was among the injured. Her injuries were described as “extremity soft tissue injuries that required cleaning in the operating room.” She is said to be in good condition and recovering.

Another victim was ID'd as a 70-year-old male with gunshot wounds to his torso “involving major organs in his abdomen.” He was undergoing his second operation and in critical condition, hospital officials said.

Police Chief Scott Schubert said that two police officers were hit during initial contact with the shooter and that two SWAT team members were also struck “during an engagement inside the building.” He confirmed that all four law enforcement officials are in stable condition.

Officials said there were multiple fatalities and six people injured in the shooting on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018.

The FBI special agent in charge of the Pittsburgh office, Bob Jones, said that it was the most “horrific crime scene” he’s witnessed in his 22-year career with the bureau. Jones said that the victims were targeted “simply because of their faith,” but that Bowers’ full motive was as yet unknown.

Bowers is said to have shouted that "all Jews must die" as he sprayed bullets, according to KDKA-TV. The attack took place during a baby naming ceremony on Shabbat, what is traditionally the busiest of days for synagogues.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf said that the FBI is investigating the shooting as “a hate crime.” That was reinforced on Saturday evening by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who said the Justice Department intends to file hate-crime and other charges over an act he deemed "reprehensible and repugnant to the values of this nation."

Anti-Semitism has absolutely no place in our commonwealth. Any attack on one community of faith in PA is an attack against every community of faith. I want the Jewish community to know that we stand in support of you as we together mourn this senseless act of violence.

Authorities believe the suspect acted alone.

“At this point we have no knowledge that Bowers was known to law enforcement before today,” Jones added.

Hours after the deadly shooting, thousands gathered at an intersection in the light rain to grieve for those killed and wounded.

"We'll be dealing with this for months and years," said State Rep. Dan Frankel, who represents the synagogue's district and was speaking a block away when the gunfire began. "It leaves an indelible mark."

In the afternoon appearance in Indianapolis, President Trump, who said he'd been in contact with the mayor and governor over the tragedy, called the shooting a wicked, anti-Semitic act of "pure evil."

Meanwhile, police in New York and Los Angeles said they would be deploying extra teams to synagogues and Jewish locations throughout those cities.

During Saturday night's memorial, there was no shortage of prayers and singing. There was also anger, and a "vote, vote, vote" chant broke out during an emotional gathering at which some derided the nation's political climate.

Several attendees blamed the shooting on the nation's deepening political and social rifts, and said they took little solace in a planned visit by Trump.

Governor Wolf attended the vigil, suspending a campaign bus trip after learning of the attack.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
