Obama was weak on border security – now, opioid overdoses are deadlier than car crashes

Barack Obama failed to secure the border during his eight years as president. Now, as the opioid crisis spirals out of control, fed by illegally trafficked drugs, his weak border policies look worse and worse.
Deaths from opioid overdoses, driven by an increase in illicit fentanyl, have now outpaced deaths from vehicle crashes for the first time, according to the National Safety Council’s latest research on preventable deaths.
Overdoses are now the fifth most likely cause of death, behind heart disease, cancer, chronic lower respiratory disease, and suicide.
Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, is particularly dangerous because it’s so potent — 50 times more powerful than heroin — and is often mixed into heroin and cocaine, sometimes without the user’s knowledge.
Fentanyl is largely smuggled into the U.S. from Mexico and China — and has to be fought on both fronts.
Decades-Old Problem
The lack of security along our southern border is not a new issue.
In fact, this was a major focus during the presidency of Bill Clinton.
While we do have some walls, some fenced section, and border patrol, this county has simply never dedicated the proper resources to really secure the border.
A young Barack Obama once gave a speech about the importance of strong borders.
He cited human trafficking, drug trafficking, and the dangers for unaccompanied children as reasons why better border security was needed.
However, once in office, he did nothing about it.
In fact, Obama created DACA which rewarded those that came into this country illegally.
Then, during the 2016 presidential campaign season, he stood on the dais, much like every other Democrat, saying it was un-American not to welcome whoever wanted to come into the country.
If you didn’t agree, you were a racist, just like the Republican nominee, Donald Trump.
Dems Have No Solutions
Now, here we are in 2019 with a president that has been blocked in every way from creating more border security.
The Democrats, who call the proposed border wall “immoral,” don’t seem to care that a large contributor to the opioid crisis in this country is the flow of drugs from the south.
They aren’t proposing any meaningful solutions to the horrifying fact that Americans are now more likely to die from an opioid overdose (1:96) than they are a motor vehicle accident (1:103).
Trump Takes Action
In December, Trump got China’s president to agree to crack down on Chinese fentanyl manufacturers, a much-needed move.
Now, if he can build a border wall and fund increased security at border crossings, it should significantly hamper the drug traffic from Mexico as well.
We’ve got to do something. Too many Americans are dying.

Trump Postpones Pelosi’s “Public Relations” Foreign Trip in Light of Govt Shutdown

President Trump has denied Speaker of House, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) an aircraft for her upcoming foreign trip, writing to the congresswoman that her “public relations” travel has been postponed due to the government shutdown, according to Fox News.
Sources told Fox News that Pelosi’s congressional delegation military aircraft was scheduled to leave at 3 p.m. ET today, with the President canceling the plane just “as she was about to leave for her overseas trip.”
In what the outlet calls a “stinging and curt” letter, the President wrote:
“Due to the Shutdown, I am sorry to inform you that your trip to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan has been postponed. We will reschedule this seven-day excursion when the Shutdown is over. In light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event is totally appropriate. I also feel that, during this period, it would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the Strong Border Security movement to end the Shutdown. Obviously, if you would like to make your journey by flying commercial, that would certainly be your prerogative.”

Pelosi: “I Don’t Care” if Secret Service Said it Could Secure State of the Union Address

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) told reporters last night that she “doesn’t care” if Secret Service said it could handle securing the State of the Union Address during the partial government shutdown, according to the Daily Caller’s Kerry Picket.
Instead, Picket writes, Pelosi “stood firm” in her calls to delay the President’s address, telling reporters “It’s about security. It’s about security.”
“I don’t care what they said,” said Pelosi when told that Secret Service stated they were prepared to secure the Congressional event.
In a letter to the President yesterday, Pelosi claimed the lack of funding due to the government shutdown would pose a security risk to the address.
“Sadly, given the security concerns and unless government re-opens this week, I suggest that we work together to determine another suitable date after government has re-opened for this address or for you to consider delivering your State of the Union address in writing to the Congress on January 29th,” she wrote.
However, both Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen contradicted Pelosi’s statement, saying they were equipped and ready to handle the event.
NBC reporter Peter Alexander wrote on Twitter that a Secret Service official said of the State of the Union address, “We’ve been planning this for months, as we always do….” The official said securing the event was a “no-fail mission.”

Report: Frustration growing among newly-elected Dems amid ongoing shutdown
https://www.patriotnewsalerts.com/frustration-growing-among-dems/?utm_source=dc2&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=dc2-1
Freshmen Democrats who expected to hit the ground running in January are feeling the pressure as the partial government shutdown over border wall funding enters its fourth week.
Newly-elected Democrats in Trump-won districts are unable to pursue their overtly progressive agendas, and many are concerned that the party’s leaders are not doing enough to compromise as they struggle to pacify angry constituents, according to multiple reports.
Freshmen Dems hurt by shutdown
The Democrats have attempted to project an image of unity and strength in their refusal to negotiate with Trump to open the government, with party leaders saying that the shutdown is hurting Trump more than the Democrats. Polls show that more voters are indeed blaming Trump for the shutdown than Democrats.
But while the Democrats appear to be winning the PR battle on the national level, with no small help from the media, cracks are starting to show. Freshmen Democrats, many in vulnerable districts that Trump won in 2016, are having a hard time convincing their constituents that their party is doing enough to compromise on border security.
Rookie and veteran Democrats arranged meetings last Wednesday and over the weekend to discuss how to handle the shutdown, as members of the incoming class are reportedly “freaking out” about moving forward without a clear strategy from higher-ups. Some Democrats are warming up to compromising with Trump by trading border wall money for legal protection for so-called Dreamers, illegal immigrant children who were allowed to stay and work in the U.S. under an Obama-era program that has become known simply as DACA.
“I think it’s something that should be in the discussion here, because things are obviously going so slowly,” said Rep. Bill Foster (D-IL) at a Democrat huddle on the shutdown last week. “I think this is ground that most Democrats should feel comfortable standing on.”
While Democrats are uniformly against the wall and many support Pelosi’s approach, some are worried that their leaders aren’t doing enough to project the image that they are willing to compromise to end the shutdown as they field angry phone calls from government workers missing paychecks.
“If I am getting comments and contact from my constituents expressing concern that the Democrats are not prioritizing security, then I think we can do better,” freshman Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) said at a closed-door caucus meeting last Wednesday.
Support national emergency?
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) have said that they support border security, but their proposals remain cloudy. They are refusing to negotiate with Trump on money for the wall, which Pelosi has called “immoral,” but some freshmen and veteran Dems are questioning whether this extreme rhetoric is helpful. Others have said that they would be more comfortable with the party focusing on logistical rather than moral arguments.
“We can be making that point of emphasis a little stronger,” said Rep. Ron Kind, a moderate Democrat (D-WI). “Anytime you can get Democrats back talking about fiscal responsibility again, that’s a good place for us to be.”
Some are even warming up to Trump’s proposal to declare a “national emergency” to fund the wall without congressional approval, The Hill reported. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) said a national emergency “might be the best of the bad lot in terms of the options left to us,” though Trump himself has said that he doesn’t want to take such a drastic measure and would prefer to go through Congress.
Should President Trump declare a national emergency to secure wall funding?
Yes
No
Next
Meanwhile, some Republicans have shown that they are feeling pressure as well, as Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), a vocal supporter of the national emergency route, suggested that Trump temporarily open the government for a few weeks to get things back on track.
As the shutdown standoff continues, it remains to be seen who will blink first — but the shutdown is hurting Democrats more than their leaders may be willing to admit.

Democrat senator caves: Border wall is not ‘immoral’

Remember that crack in the wall among Dems we talked about last week? Well, it just got bigger.
Democrat Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) tried to walk back Nancy Pelosi’s recent statement about the border wall over the weekend, saying: “I personally don’t think that a border wall is, in and of itself, immoral.”
Justifying His Comments
Soon after making his comment, Coons must have realized his was betraying his new leader.
The Democrat senator then tried to rationalize what Pelosi must have been thinking when she made her comments.
Coons said the speaker must have been talking about the immigration policies of the administration, not the wall itself.
The only problem for Coons is that is not nearly what Pelosi said — or anything that could be mistaken for that.
Pelosi stated: “The fact is, a wall is an immorality. It’s now who we are as a nation.”
If you ask me Sen. Coons, it’s pretty clear what she meant.
More Breakdowns
Sen. Coons seems to be one of the few Democrats in office right now that is actually willing to work towards a settlement that will end this shutdown.
During the same interview, he said that he knows Trump will not back down off the border wall.
However, he also stated that he does believe Trump is willing to negotiate, something most of Coons’ fellow Democrats are not willing to do.
Still, Coons wants the president to show his hand first — something we do not expect Trump to do.
Rather than tell Democrats what he is willing to concede, Dems need to come to the table with their demands.
Then, and only then, should Trump open up the negotiations.

Support for President Donald Trump’s border wall is at an all-time high, according to an ABC and Washington Post poll released on Sunday. Nearly half of the country wants the wall that the Democrats are fighting desperately to block President Trump from building as the government shutdown over border security funding enters its fourth week.
While a slight majority still oppose the wall, support for it leaped nearly 10 points from 34 percent last January to 42 percent this year.
Support for wall surging
Democrats have often claimed that the American people don’t want Trump’s border wall, which they say is ineffective, expensive, and even “immoral.” But almost half the country disagrees.
While the Democrats claim to speak for the people, the percentage of Americans opposed to the wall dipped from a 63 percent majority a year ago to a slight majority of 54 percent. The rise in support for a wall comes after a year in which scenes of illegal immigration running rampant dominated headlines and cable news while President Trump fought with Democrats and “Obama judges” to bring the border under control.
Indeed, 2018 saw the word “caravan” become part of mainstream political discourse after numerous groups of migrants numbering in the thousands marched through Latin America to the U.S.-Mexico border. Around Thanksgiving, a caravan made landfall near the border, and some migrants were dispersed with tear gas after charging a fence.
Moreover, months before the caravan arrived at the border, the Trump administration came under fire for separating families of illegal immigrants in accordance with a “zero-tolerance” policy on illegal border crossings. By the time the midterm elections arrived last November, polls showed that voters held immigration to be a top issue.
Voters split on whether to compromise
Sunday’s poll comes as President Trump is locked in a stalemate with Democrats over $5 billion in border wall funding that has shuttered the government for more than 20 days. The shutdown became the longest in history over the weekend as Democrats have continued to insist that they will never fund a wall, even if the government reopens.
Democrats called the border crisis “manufactured” in their response to a solemn Oval Office address from Trump last week that touched on the various costs of illegal immigration. Sunday’s poll found that only 24 percent of Americans agree with Trump that there is a “crisis,” but nearly half of Americans both for and against the wall agree that there is a serious problem at the border.
But whether it’s a crisis or merely a problem, the Democrats’ refusal to negotiate with the president on border security funding is starkly out of touch with what Americans want, according to the ABC/WaPo poll. The Democrats haven’t budged from their uncompromising stance and are insisting that President Trump open the government before negotiations on border security continue.
Meanwhile, Trump has also been floating the possibility of declaring a national emergency to fund the wall if Democrats don’t come to the table, though the ABC poll found that two-thirds of Americans are against declaring a national emergency to fund the wall, and some have warned that declaring a national emergency could establish a precedent for Democratic presidents in the future to take unilateral action to pursue a liberal agenda.
Who’s to blame?
The poll also found that 53 percent of Americans blame Trump and the Republican Party for the shutdown, while just 29 percent blame the Democrats. Thirteen percent said both sides deserve blame. Republicans were also more willing than Democrats to blame their own side; 85 percent of Democrats blamed Trump but just 68 percent of Republican blamed congressional Democrats.
The poll also showed that those for and against the wall are split on whether their party should compromise to end the shutdown. Half of those against the wall think the Democrats should continue to refuse wall funding even if it means prolonging the shutdown, while 45 percent want to see a compromise.
Do you feel immigration is a top issue?
Yes
No
Next
A larger percentage of Republicans, 57 percent, do not want President Trump to cave on the wall, while 39 percent are in favor of compromise.
Mainstream outlets have been playing up the impact of the government shutdown while pushing the Democrats’ talking point that the border crisis is “manufactured,” but just 18 percent of poll respondents said that they felt the shutdown’s impact. Conventional wisdom holds that the media tends to blame Republicans for shutdowns and that they’re generally bad PR for the party, but with support for the wall at an all-time high, maybe it isn’t as bad for Trump as the talking heads say.

Nancy Pelosi gives heartless dismissal when asked about cop killed by illegal immigrant

Last week, a police officer in California was shot and killed by an undocumented immigrant.
But rather than acknowledge the growing problem of crimes by illegal immigrants, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi dismissed it merely as a “situation” — one that she believes cannot be eliminated with a border wall and stronger border security.
Comments face outrage
During her weekly press conference, Pelosi was specifically asked about the need for improved border security, including with a wall, in light to a tragedy that occured earlier this month in California.
A legal immigrant and police officer Ronil Singh was shot to death by an individual that should not have even been in the country.
Pelosi’s response? “It is a tragic situation, but what the president is proposing will not eliminate those possibilities.”
It took only seconds for the backlash to begin over her comments.
One of the first to speak against her was Fox contributor Tomi Lahren, and she absolutely nailed it.
This “situation” was preventable and never would have happened had that undocumented immigrant not been in the country, as Tomi says in this Fox clip:
Par for the course
But we should expect this from Pelosi by now.
She belittles horrific events like these to push her own agenda.
After the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, Pelosi took much the same approach, calling the attacks an “incident” rather than admitting the truth:

Nancy Pelosi refers to the 9/11 terror attacks that killed nearly 3,000 Americans as just an "incident."
Pelosi then falsely stated the Trump admin separated families because they believe moms "who want to escape rape, murder and gang violence for their child" are "unfit."

Quite frankly, what Pelosi will say and do to protect her party is despicable.
She dismissed the life of an American hero to further her anti-Trump/anti-wall agenda. Shameful.

Sean Hannity highlights ‘Angel families’ whose loved ones were killed by illegal aliens

In his first episode of 2019, Fox News anchor Sean Hannity promised to focus on the biggest untold story of the illegal immigration debate by talking about the most direct victims of the border crisis.
On Friday, the Hannity host fulfilled that pledge in a major way, inviting a panel of Angel Moms and Dads onto his 8 p.m. ET show to tell the tragic stories of how their children were killed by illegal immigrants.
Manufactured crisis?
“These are the faces of a ‘manufactured crisis,’” Hannity said in disbelief, asking the camera to pan from left to right to provide his viewers with a sense of the magnitude of the immigration problem. “That is what the media says about all of you and all of your experiences.
“Manufactured? These are real lives,” he insisted.
Hannity gave several families the opportunity to recount the painful details of their loved ones’ demises. Each story was an atrocious example of government negligence, where the system fell abysmally short of protecting American citizens from an imminent and preventable threat.
This narrative is as true for Steve Ronnebeck as it is for any of the other families appearing on Hannity’s Friday program. Ronnebeck’s son Grant was shot “point blank in the face” for a few packs of cigarettes while he was working the graveyard shift at a convenience store on Jan. 22, 2015.
“It gets worse, though,” Hannity explained, “because this same illegal immigrant had held a young woman hostage, brutally raped her, had been in the criminal justice system, how did he ever get out? And how did he not get deported?”
Agney Gibboney, mother of Ronald Gibboney, is experiencing a similarly distressing injustice. She told Hannity how the illegal immigrant who “murdered my son would be coming out of prison next year.”
“He’s getting released, but California being a sanctuary state,” Gibboney is worried that her son’s killer won’t be deported and could “come after me.”
Then, there was Michelle Root, whose 21-year-old daughter Sarah was killed by a street-racing drunk driver. “But Edwin Mejia made a bond because of the judge set a low bond, and he fled. So he is out there,” Root explained.
Lives lost, lives lived
By showcasing the results of decades of failed government policy in the form of surviving family members, Hannity hoped to dispel the Democratic Party narrative that illegal immigration is a “manufactured crisis.” To make that point, however, Hannity implored his guests to talk about more than just the lives that were lost.
He also wanted to hear about the lives that were lived. Hannity recalled how Sarah Root was an “all-American, young, beautiful, 4.0 student, [with] her whole life and career ahead of her.” Her mother talked about how Sarah “saved six additional people that night with her organs” as a registered donor.
Are you glad Hannity has highlighted the tragic plight of Angel families?

“That is what this show is about,” Hannity reminded his viewers. “I want people to see what this manufactured crisis, it is not manufactured.
“I’m so sorry to all of you,” the conservative host said. “I’m so sorry. This has got to stop.”

Clinton-linked, Soros-funded group raising funds to challenge ‘racist’ wall

Twice-failed presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is teaming up with a powerful Democratic ally to spread disinformation about the GOP’s proposed wall along the southern U.S. border. Demand Justice, a “social welfare organization” founded by Clinton loyalists and funded by radical billionaire philanthropist George Soros, is soliciting donors to resist President Donald Trump’s “racist, unnecessary wall.”
Show me the money!
Clinton’s nonprofit is positioning itself to take legal action in the event that the president declares a state of emergency and directs national security funds towards constructing the wall. In a coordinated email drive, the anti-Trump group demanded more than justice from its supporters, asking them to “Give $5 now” to prepare for future court battles:
If Trump takes this unprecedented action, it WILL be challenged in the courts. This is why we fight. Give $5 now.
We won’t allow Trump to hold our country hostage with his fearmongering and scare tactics. The courts may be our last line of defense against Trump’s authoritarian impulses and now is the time to show him we won’t stand down. Give $5 now to help us fight back.
Demand Justice is projecting, accusing the Trump administration of using the very tactics it employs to persuade Democrats to donate to their cause. Ironically, in the same breath that the nonprofit denounces Trump as a rabble-rouser, it engages in the exact same behavior by warning donors that the president is some sort of out-of-control dictator,
Besides, Trump can hardly be called a fearmonger for pursuing policies which the last two Democratic presidents supported during their own terms. Even Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.), whose refusal to fund a small portion of the GOP’s wall has kept parts of the federal government closed for three weeks, enthusiastically supported the Secure Fence Act of 2006, establishing hundreds of miles of technologically-advanced barrier on the southern border. “They changed their mind only after I was elected president,” Trump said during his Oval Office address on Tuesday.
Yet, as Demand Justice’s latest fundraiser demonstrates, the left’s overwhelming hatred for the current president has overwhelmed their ability to properly reason. “This lawless president has created a humanitarian crisis along the southern border of our country by targeting asylum seekers; already, two children have died in U.S. border patrol custody,” the charity wrote in an email soliciting donations.
But where was this selective outrage during the Obama administration? Eighteen migrants died in border patrol custody during the Obama administration, and the Clinton State Department was deadly silent.
Smear campaign
This isn’t the first time that Demand Justice, which was only founded a year ago, has stood in the way of Trump’s agenda. It took less than an hour after Trump officially announced Brett Kavanaugh as his second Supreme Court nominee for Clinton’s Demand Justice henchmen to spring into action and create a “stopkavanaugh.com” webpage.
“We need to demand that the Senate defeat the Brett Kavanaugh nomination,” the organization said at the time. They ended up raising $10 million in 2018, and half of that sum went to resisting the Kavanaugh appointment.
Familiar faces
Clinton’s latest pet project is teeming with familiar faces, and some of the former first lady’s closest advisors maintain high-ranking roles at Demand Justice. Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta reportedly served as the inspiration for the left-wing advocacy group. “We have ignored this field of battle for too long,” he told The New York Times.
Paige Herwig, who worked as counselor for Attorney General Loretta Lynch during the Obama administration, was also rewarded with a job at Demand Justice. Herwig played a part in crafting a public relations response to the Phoenix tarmac scandal, when former President Bill Clinton briefly met with Lynch on her private airplane just days before his wife was exonerated for mishandling classified information.
Other prominent Clintonites populate the senior ranks of the nonprofit, as well. Brian Fallon, the 2016 Clinton campaign press secretary, founded Demand Justice, while Gabrielle McCaffrey — also from the campaign — heads up the charity’s digital team. Fallon hopes to use his organization to “sensitize rank-and-file progressives to think of the courts as a venue for their activism and a way to advance the progressive agenda.”
Shadow charity
Despite all of the big names employed at Demand Justice, the organization maintains a highly secretive campaign structure. According to the Associated Press, the nonprofit is “‘fiscally sponsored’ by a tax-exempt social welfare organization called the Sixteen Thirty Fund.”
Soros’s multi-billion dollar Open Society Policy Center (OSPC) indirectly funded Demand Justice by donating $2.2 million to the Sixteen Thirty Fund, who in turn act as the fiscal sponsors to Clinton’s young charity.
In fact, the Sixteen Thirty Fund is nothing more than a shell charity, operating as a “fiscal sponsorship vehicle for donors to direct capital toward social welfare projects that include advocacy, lobbying, and some political and electoral activities.”
Why all of the cloak and dagger subterfuge? Because of their sponsorship status, Demand Justice does not have to pay taxes or publish a list of donors.
“Given this structure, it is difficult to know how much money individual donors like Soros have channeled to Demand Justice,” The Daily Caller explained in an investigative report on the charity.
Are you concerned by the fiscal influence Soros wields over left-wing advocacy groups?

Report: Government shutdown nearing end as Dems relent
January 11, 2019 by Jerry McCormick

Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are starting to lose the support of their party members.
Three weeks into the what no doubt will end up being the longest shutdown in government history, several Democrats are starting to show signs of cracking.
A Small Drip Leads to a Crack
It takes but a single drop of water coming through a wall to develop a crack.
That one drop can end up being the cause of significant damage — and that is what it appears is happening in Washington among Democrats.
While Pelosi remains adamant that not a single penny of taxpayer money will be spent on a border wall, several key members of her own party are starting to concede.
“If we have a partial wall, if we have fencing, if we have technology used to keep our border safe, all of that is fine,” Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-IL) said.
Her Oregon party-mate, Sen. Jeff Merkley, also admitted: “Some fencing has uses. Some barriers are useful.”
Even Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) said: “There are areas along the border where there are currently fences that are put up or barriers that are put up that need to be enhanced.”
Finally Seeing the Light
This is a great sign for Republicans and Donald Trump, as Democrats are finally starting to understand the problem.
Keep in mind: had any other Republican — or even Donald Trump — made those statements, the media would have already started with cries of racism.
But sans media outrage, these Democrats are finally using some common sense and understanding that we need better border security to protect the people living in this country legally.
The fact of the matter is without some type of fencing or wall, we would need border agents along all of these areas, something that would cost American taxpayers trillions of dollars over the years.
We also need to funnel immigration to ports of entry, where would-be immigrants can be properly processed.
Do You Think Trump Will Get Border Wall Funding?
Yes
No
Next
Why Democrats like Pelosi and Schumer are unable to process these basic benefits of having a strong border wall is incomprehensible.
Hopefully, some of these small cracks we are seeing will end up turning into a full-on flood of Democrats finally realizing that Trump is 100 percent right about the need for a strong border wall.

Yes
No

Why Democrats like Pelosi and Schumer are unable to process these basic benefits of having a strong border wall is incomprehensible.
Hopefully, some of these small cracks we are seeing will end up turning into a full-on flood of Democrats finally realizing that Trump is 100 percent right about the need for a strong border wall.

CNN analyst: Courts ‘unlikely’ to stop Trump from declaring federal emergency for wall
As the government shutdown enters its 21st day, even some Democratic strategists see the writing on the wall. President Donald Trump will get the $5.7 billion he requested to fund parts of a barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border, even if he has to circumvent Congress and use his executive authority.
CNN chief legal consultant Jeffrey Toobin admitted on Thursday that he thinks it is “unlikely” that federal courts could stop the White House from declaring a national emergency and allocating funds to build a wall at the southern border.
The writing on the wall
Appearing on CNN’s “New Day,” co-host John Bergman asked Toobin if he thinks that it would be legal for the president to shift money from other programs toward the wall by declaring a national emergency. “I think it probably is,” Toobin answered. “I think it is unlikely to be stopped by the courts, let’s put it that way.”
Watch below:
Under the 1976 National Emergencies Act, the president has the authority to issue a state of emergency when the public is in danger, granting himself access to 100 special provisions to be used at his discretion. These powers allow the president to ignore standard laws and civil protections in order to quickly respond to urgent threats.
Under Title 10 of the U.S. Code, during a national state of emergency the Department of Defense “may undertake military construction projects … not otherwise authorized by law that are necessary to support such use of the armed forces.” The same regulation goes on to explain that “such projects may be undertaken only within the total amount of funds that have been appropriated for military construction, including funds appropriated for family housing, that have not been obligated.”
Cloaked in enormous power
Toobin explained why the broad emergency powers invested in the president would make it difficult for any plaintiff to challenge his orders. He said:
Ultimately, [it is unlikely to be stopped] for a couple of reasons. One is that the president’s emergency powers are phrased in a very broad way. And second, as a purely legal matter, it is hard for me to imagine the courts finding a plaintiff with standing. That is, the plaintiff with the legal right to sue to stop this at any early point in the process.
“You know, the president’s emergency powers have been invoked more than you think, often on issues that are not terribly high profile, issues involving Congo, for example … and there are 31 current emergencies,” said Toobin. “Most of them not controversial at all. But, you know, they indicate the breadth of the president’s power here. And, you know, at least in the short-term, I think that if President Trump wanted to do this, the courts would let him.”
Toobin’s argument that presidents commonly invoke national emergencies is factually correct. Since 1979, U.S. commanders-in-chief have declared national emergencies 58 times, and 31 of these are still ongoing.
Despite these statistics, mainstream news outlets like The New York Times portray the National Emergencies Act as “an extraordinary measure rarely used by presidents absent an urgent security threat.” The liberal press want Americans to believe that Trump would be vastly overreaching if he declared a state of emergency — even though this authority has been invoked on average 1.5 times per year since 1979.
Yet, The Times called Trump’s threatened use of presidential power an “extraordinarily aggressive move,” which would be, “at a minimum, a violation of constitutional norms.”

That’s enough to kill the entire population of the United States.
And a 73% increase over what was seized the previous year.

It’s hard to imagine a more appropriate reason for applying emergency powers. Trump understands this, which is why he has repeatedly asserted his intent to declare a state of emergency unless congressional Democrats provide him with the $5.7 billion requested to begin construction on the massive project.
“If we don’t make a deal with Congress, most likely I will [declare a national emergency],” Trump told Fox News’s Sean Hannity Thursday night. “I would actually say I would. I can’t imagine any reason why not, because I’m allowed to do it.”
Like Toobin, Trump understands that “the law is 100 percent on my side” when it comes to presidential emergency powers. Democrats would be wise to reach an agreement with the president. Otherwise, they may just lose their seat at the negotiating table.

Fox’s Sean Hannity: Border crisis is a matter of ‘life and death’

The border situation is a dire one — and Fox News’ Sean Hannity made that quite clear during a recent op-ed on FoxNews.com.
“For us and most Americans, this is not a political game,” Hannity wrote. “We are seeing this is as about life and death.”
“This is about innocent, brave, law-abiding Americans and legal immigrants literally dying because our borders are not secure,” he added.
The Numbers
When Democrats ask “where is the emergency” at the border, they are obviously not seeing the same numbers most of us are seeing.
Over the past two years, undocumented immigrants have accounted for 235,000 violations of the law, including over 100,000 violent assaults, 4,000 homicides, and 30,000 sex crimes.
Additionally, according to Hannity, in 2018, 17,000 undocumented immigrants crossed the border that had criminal records.
What They Won’t Say
Democrats have also refused to admit that undocumented immigrants often have to turn to crime to live in this country.
Because they are coming in illegally, many of them cannot get regular employment.
When that happens, they turn to a life of crime.
Meanwhile, the sad reality of the situation is that many of the crimes mentioned above could have been prevented if local governments had simply followed the rules.
Instead, we have sanctuary cities and states refusing to notify ICE or to hold undocumented immigrants in custody when they do catch them.
How many more times do we have to hear of some horrific crime being committed by someone who entered this country illegally and who had been previously apprehended but let go by local governments?
Do you think the crisis at the border constitutes a national emergency?
Yes
No
Next
Dems may say Hannity is overstating the severity of this crisis, but Hannity is dead-on perfect in his conclusion.
This is an emergency situation, and President Donald Trump has every right to declare it as such if it will keep more Americans out of harm’s way.

The Davos conference is scheduled to start on January 22, so Trump’s announcement means the current government shutdown may continue to that date and beyond.
The US government has been partially shut down for 20 days now, after Senate Democrats refused to back a Republican-majority House bill that would allocate $5.7 billion to building the border wall just before Christmas.
Democrats took over the House on January 3, and have proposed several bills to reopen the government, but have rejected any funding for the wall, ever, calling it “immoral.”

Watch: Kentucky Rep. John Yarmuth struggles to justify Dems’ stance on border wall
January 7, 2019
https://www.conservativeinstitute.org/national-sovereignty/border-security/yarmuth-justify-stance-border.htm
A Democratic congressman recently admitted that President Donald Trump’s border wall would secure the border — and conceded that $5 billion isn’t too much to ask for it.
In an interview on The Hill’s Rising on Friday, Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY) struggled to rationalize his party’s opposition to the wall, given their recent support of spending billions of dollars more than what Trump is asking for border security funding on similar fencing.
The infamous wall
Rep. Yarmuth conceded that some of the Democrats’ central arguments against the wall — namely, that it is too expensive and would be ineffective — are lacking in substance. Indeed, there’s no need to go digging through ancient history to find examples of Dems approving more than Trump’s $5 billion for border security funding.
Even Yarmuth, who chairs the House Budget Committee, pointed out that Democrats “were willing to give $25 billion for border security, just a year ago, in exchange for a deal on DACA.” President Trump has also observed that the Democrats recently voted to send billions overseas in foreign aid, but not one cent to secure the border, making it clear that money isn’t the issue.
Additionally, knocking the argument that Dems feel the wall wouldn’t work, Senate Democrats voted unanimously in 2013 to spend nearly $50 billion on hundreds of miles in fencing and other border security measures, and in 2006, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and other Dems voted for the Secure Fence Act, which would have put $50 billion over the course of 25 years toward building a border fence. If Democrats supported some form of physical barrier in the past, then it’s hard to rationalize their argument that an even more secure physical barrier would be less effective now.
Attempting to explain his party’s position, Yarmuth said that Trump is not a reliable negotiator and that the Democrats do not think the wall is “a decision that’s based on any realistic assessment of what is actually security.” Rising host Buck Sexton then pressed the congressman to explain why his party insists that walls don’t work when border patrol and ICE have told him “unequivocally” that they do.
“So why do we keep hearing members of the Democratic Congress come forward saying that it wouldn’t work and it’s stupid, when not only do we have the people who are actually in charge of border security saying it would work and it’s not stupid, we can see that it already does work in places where there is a wall?” Sexton asked Yarmuth, who conceded: “That’s exactly right.”
“But we don’t know where he’s going to put the wall,” Yarmuth continued, seeming to get confused. “He already has $1.3 trillion—er, $1.3 billion that he’s only spent 6 percent of that was given to him for border security and he hasn’t used that. So the question is, do you just say, ‘Okay, $5 billion, take it?'”
“Maybe that’s the right idea,” Yarmuth conceded. “Maybe just give him the $5 billion because he won’t use it anyway.” Take a look at the full discussion:
Can an inanimate object be immoral?
If money is not the issue, and Democrats voted for border security in the past, then it’s difficult to explain the Democrats’ reasoning other than by assuming that they’re against it on principle. Indeed, Nancy Pelosi’s recent claim that the wall is “immoral” probably comes closest to an honest argument that the Democrats have against the wall — they just don’t want borders.
But speaking with Fox on Saturday, Yarmuth disagreed with Pelosi, saying: “I don’t know that an inanimate object can be immoral, so I probably would differ on that characterization.”
Do you believe border walls work?

Yarmuth went on to suggest that Democrats and Republicans could still strike a deal to trade the wall for protection for the so-called “Dreamers,” protected under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
“There’s a lot of pride right now that’s probably adversely affecting a settlement on both sides, and nobody wants to cave,” he said. “But I think a deal where there’s at least temporary working permits for Dreamers for several years, that kind of a relationship if you’re not going to solve the Dreamer problem for us, some amount of money for border security is an easy deal to make.”

Standing Tall
Donald Trump ran on the platform of locking down our borders and making America safe for all citizens in this country.
A major problem is a porous southern border that allows criminals, human traffickers, drug dealers, gang members, and terrorists to slip through the cracks and into the country.
Democrats are willing to take that risk.
In their opinion, allowing 20,000 people in at the risk of a dozen terrorists is not all that big of a deal.
One need only look at Boston to see how much damage one or two individuals can do on their own.
One need only look at 9/11 to see the damage a dozen people can do with the proper resources.
Those events, as well as many others, prove the importance of having proper border security.
What About Us?
It is hard not to ask, “What about Americans?” when talking to a Democrat in office.
Looking back to the 2016 presidential campaign season, when was the last time a Democrat actually talked about doing something positive for working Americans?
Sure, they have talked about giving away free medical care, but what do they do for working middle-class America that does not qualify for tax breaks or entitlement programs?
When was the last time Democrats discussed helping out our veterans on their own?
The only subject they have touched upon that might benefit middle-class Americans is fighting opioid abuse, but that is something Trump was already addressing.
Democrats are no longer worried about the working class.

NEW: Vice President Pence and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen just wrapped an hour long briefing with reporters. The bottom line is that the president is NOT budging from his demand for $5.7 billion a wall and the WH is accusing Dems of refusing to negotiate.

Do You Support Trump Holding Firm on Border Wall Funding?
Yes
No
Next
They want to put raise taxes on the people and companies that provide the jobs, then give that money to people that don’t want to work or are in this country without the proper documentation.
That is their way to secure more votes because they know anyone with a smidgen of common sense will never vote Democrat again.

Trump: “We Can Call a National Emergency” to Build Border Wall
by Team Bongino

President Trump isn’t backing down from his promise to build the wall on the southern border.
Speaking to reporters in the Rose Garden after his second meeting with Congressional leaders on the matter, Trump said, “We can call a national emergency [to build a border wall] because of the security of our country.”
I may do it,” he said, “If we can do it through a negotiated process, we’re giving it a shot.”
“This is national security we’re talking about, we’re not talking about games. We’re not playing games, we have to do it.”
Fox News reports:
The press conference underscored how far apart both sides are, even as Trump called the meeting “productive” and suggested the standoff could end soon — or not. He indicated he was not shifting on his demand for more than $5 billion for funding for a wall on the southern border, saying it was necessary as the border is a “dangerous, horrible disaster.”
Prior to his meeting, the president sent a letter to Congress congratulating Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on her speakership and urging lawmakers to re-open the government.
“As we begin this new Congress, our first task should be to reopen the Government and to deliver on our highest duty as elected officials: the security of the Nation and its borders,” he wrote. “It is the sovereign right of every nation to establish an immigration program in its national interest—lawfully admitting those who have followed the rules, while denying entry to those who break the rules or fail to meet the requirements established in law.”
“Americans have endured decades of broken promises on illegal immigration. Now, is the time for both parties to rise above the partisan discord, to set aside political convenience, and to put the national interest first.”
