The Day of the Lord

Behold, a day is coming for the Lord…I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle…His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives…Then the Lord, my God, will come! Zechariah 14:1-5 NASB

The day of the Lord is coming! Of that we can be certain. But how can we know when this will take place? The Bible gives us clues but, as God told Zechariah, this is a “unique day which is known to the Lord” (v. 7).

One day, God will “gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle” (v. 2), and they will face the Lord Himself. On that day, Jesus will come back and stand on the Mount of Olives, which “will be split in its middle from east to west by a very large valley” (v. 4).

As believers, we need not be afraid or worried by these prophecies. Rather, they must help us be prepared and rejoice that our salvation is drawing near. As we see trouble in the world, we need to focus on God and trust in Him, confident that the world is in His hands, and He has a plan that cannot fail.

We also need to remember that each of us will face God and give an account of our lives, and what we have said and done. We need to be ready for that day. But meanwhile we also should be concerned about the millions of souls who still need the Gospel.

Are you ready for the day of the Lord? Be sure by freeing your life of sin and anything that displeases God. Focus on His Kingdom. Commit yourself and your time, talent, and treasure to Him. And dedicate yourself to helping others to be ready for the day of the Lord.

Prayer
Father, purify me. Use me to bring the Gospel to the world. I seek first Your Kingdom. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! In His name. Amen.
