Nancy Pelosi Abruptly Walks Out of News Conference over Impeachment Questions
By Joe Saunders
Published September 12, 2019 at 11:38am
Nancy Pelosi looks like she’s feeling the pressure.

The House speaker has already been plagued this session with rebels in her own ranks — in the form of New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her squadmates.

Now, judging by the abrupt end of a Pelosi news conference reported by the Washington Examiner on Thursday, it looks like the constant questions about impeaching President Donald Trump have the California Democrat approaching the breaking point.

Advertisement - story continues below

Pelosi’s irritation over the impeachment issue was clear — from her arrogantly imperious tone to her near-frantic hand movements.

“I travel the entire country,” she told reporters. “Come with me some time and you’ll hear what the American people are saying.

x
“They understand that impeachment is a very divisive measure. But if we have to go there, we have to go there. But we can’t go there unless we have the facts.”

Pelosi gets testy with a reporter who asks her about House Dems' mixed messaging on impeachment, says the American people "understand that impeachment is a very divisive measure. But if we have to go there, we'll have to go there. But we can't go there unless we have the facts."
4:49 PM - Sep 12, 2019

Near the end of that oration, Pelosi tried to cut off any further questions about the I-word.

“That’s all I’m going to say about this subject, and there’s nothing different from one day to the next. We’re still on our same path,” she said.

But it turned out some reporters were still on the same subject.

And Pelosi did not handle it well at all.

Watch how she ended the news conference here. The question is tough to make out, but its topic was impeachment, and Pelosi wasn’t having it at all:

That’s not the look of a woman in command.

RELATED: Maher Responds to Tlaib Boycott Threat: 'Does Tlaib Want to Boycott 93% of Her Own Party?'

Sure, she attempted to change the subject to gun control, a topic Democrats think they have some traction on. She challenged reporters to bother Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell with questions about why he’s not rolling over for Democrat proposals to infringe on Americans’ constitutional rights instead of bothering her with “impeachment” questions.

“Why is it that you are hung up with a word over here when lives are at stake over there?” she asked.

But all the pretentious blather in the world isn’t going to change the political reality in which Pelosi is living.

Her frustration is understandable, of course. She’s the head of a political caucus that’s riven by far-left lawmakers (from safely blue seats) who wanted impeachment hearings to start in January, and Democratic “moderates” who won seats in the 2018 midterms that they’ll be giving up in 2020 if leftist Democrats enrage Americans in saner congressional districts.

In the latest bit of Democratic straddling, the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday voted to discuss setting the ground rules for future impeachment inquiries, Fox News reported.

Rashida Tlaib says ‘we need a political revolution’
September 12, 2019 by Jerry McCormick
Rep. Rashida Tlaib has finally come out and said it.
In a not so stunning tweet, the Michigan Democrat admitted that she is trying to create a “political revolution” in America, Breitbart reports.
Tlaib tweeted Saturday:
Rashida Tlaib
✔
@RashidaTlaib
We have to make the tough, courageous changes that completely transform a political and economic system that is now built for corporations (and profits), not people.

Choosing the status quo means doing nothing and giving up.

We need a political revolution. https://twitter.com/kob_josh/status/1170402948385345541

Trump is Scared
According to Tlaib, President Trump is terrified of her as well as her fellow members of the so-called “Squad.”

Tlaib believes Trump has no plan for this country and says the president fears her Squad because they do have a plan.

She went on: “He’s afraid of women of color…because we’re not afraid of him and we’re not afraid to speak up and say that we have a white supremacist in the White House who has a hate agenda.”

But the situation is not so much that Trump is afraid of Tlaib as it is that his hands are tied. While Tlaib insults Trump all day, the president can’t even whisper in her direction without facing criticism or being called racist or sexist.

The Political Revolution
For her part, Tlaib says this country is no longer about people, but rather, corporations and profit. She and her fellow Democrats have a plan for that — but it would completely transform our government and way of life.

They want to turn capitalism into socialism, because they know once that transformation is complete, the people of this country will forever lose their power.

Find out how AOC can bail you out of jail!

By Leah Rosenberg - September 11, 2019 2030 0
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ayanna Pressley are SO motivated and passionate! That is, to help criminals involved with Antifa out of jail. This is too much.
Antifa Arrest? Contact The Squad!

Antifa Arrest? Call AOC!
What happened to congressmen and congresswomen fighting FOR American values? What happened to them putting their time and effort into defending innocent Americans rather than criminals? It is insane! AOC has helped those involved with Antifa out of jail. She and Ayanna Pressley actually raised the funds to bail criminals out of prison. These Antifa members were violent. They disturbed the peace. These activists were arrested at a Boston ‘Straight Pride Parade.’ They assaulted people, including police officers. So, what are AOC and Pressley supporting and raising funds for? People who use violence. What message does this send to Americans? The exact message in this video: If you need help getting bailed out of jail for using violence and violating the law, just contact AOC and Ayanna Pressley. They’ll be sure to raise the funds you need. Oh, but of course, you cannot be a Trump supporter. Then you’re stuck.

Things Just Keep Getting Worse
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is hopeless. Things just keep getting worse and worse. Her comments, her actions – everything is absurd. What she stands for, what she protests, what she supports – it is none of what America values.

But Americans keep falling for her “activism.” They keep supporting her constant passion to stand up for “human rights.” But do they ever look at what she is actually standing up for? That none of it is about human rights? That when it comes to the people who really need to be defended, she is nowhere to be found? AOC is NOT good news for America.

Ilhan Omar’s husband wants a divorce following reports of infidelity: Report
September 4, 2019
https://www.conservativeinstitute.org/conservative-news/omars-husband-wants-divorce.htm
Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar’s words often make headlines. But now, it’s the Democrat’s alleged actions that are in the news.

Omar has recently faced accusations that she had an affair with political consultant Tim Mynett — and now, the New York Post is reporting that the congresswoman’s husband wants a divorce.

The story first came to light last week when a D.C. court filing from Beth Mynett said that her husband had left her for Omar.

“The parties physically separated on or about April 7, 2019, when Defendant told Plaintiff that he was romantically involved with and in love with another woman, Ilhan Omar,” the filing states.

On Aug, 27, Omar denied the affair and other reports alleging she had separated from her husband, Ahmed Hirsi. “No, I am not,” Omar told a reporter who begged the question, according to Fox News. “As I said yesterday, I have no interest in allowing the conversation about my personal life to continue and so I have no desire to discuss it.”

Tim Mynett has also disputed the reports, claiming he’s the victim of vindictive smears by his estranged wife.

Money problems
But Omar hasn’t only found herself in marital trouble. News of the alleged affair has also brought questions of whether the congresswoman used her position to convey financial benefits to her alleged lover.

Since 2018, Omar’s campaign has paid a total of $230,000 to the E Street Group, a consulting firm of which Mr. Mynett is a partial owner, according to National Review. Over $160,000 of that total was spent in this year alone, Federal Election Commission (FEC) data shows.

What’s curious is that the campaign began paying the E Street Group for “travel expenses” on April 1 — just a week before Beth Mynett says that her husband announced he was involved with Omar. Thus far, the “expenses” have totaled more than $20,000.

Due for divorce?
For its part, the Post quoted a friend of the couple who said they were “surprised” that Hirsi hadn’t already moved to divorce Omar. The Post‘s source attributed Hirsi’s reluctance to concern for the couple’s children.

The Post also reports that Omar and Hirsi have been living apart since March, with Omar moving into a luxury condo. Her husband is said to be staying with friends as well as at the condo when Omar is in Washington.

Despite being wed in a religious ceremony almost two decades ago, Hirsi and Omar only legally married in 2017. Prior to that, she was married to a British man who some have alleged is actually her brother.

Ilhan Omar Wants To Bring in a 'UN High Commissioner' To Stop US from Protecting Sovereign Borders

Apparently, having an actual border and taking action against those who illegally cross it is such a heinous thing to Rep. Ilhan Omar that we need the United Nations in the United States to deal with it.

Yes, really. Welcome to America à la “Squad.”

According to Fox News, the Minnesota Democrat made the proposal during a speech on Tuesday.

“We should do what any other country does, by dealing with this situation in a serious way,” she said.

“So we have to bring in the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees — an agency that has the expertise and the training to handle massive flows of refugees humanely.”

TRENDING: Joe Biden Caught Telling Fabricated War Story

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Omar made the remarks at a Minneapolis forum on immigration, an issue on which she said that the United States was “losing our moral high ground.”

“What we face is not an invasion,” she said. “This is not an invasion, it’s an immigration crisis.”

She also believes that people illegally crossing our border aren’t really doing anything illegal.

“We are treating people like criminals when they have not committed a crime,” Omar said.

Do you think the UNHCR should help deal with the border crisis?
Yes No

“It doesn’t make any sense for us to be committing these kinds of human rights violations, to have these policies in the way we interact with migrants and asylum seekers if we want to continue to be the kind of country that condemns countries in Africa, in Asia or Latin American countries for its treatment of refugees and asylum seekers.”

Because apparently, every single one of these asylum seekers meets the credible fear threshold.

“We’re all here tonight because we all recognize that immigration is one of the defining civil rights and human rights issue of our time,” she told the audience, calling immigration a “broken system.” On the last count, she’s right, although perhaps not in the way she had intended to be.

I suppose Omar would prefer we focus on virtually anything that doesn’t have to deal with the recent allegations that she’s been funneling campaign funds to a married man she’s allegedly having an affair with.

RELATED: Alabama GOP Approves Resolution To Expel Ilhan Omar from Congress Under Article 1, Sect. 5 of the Constitution

That being said, while the idea of the United Nations taking a significant role in United States border policy may go over well with the base, I suspect this isn’t exactly going to endear her to moderates or those who aren’t already enamored with “the Squad.”

There were no calls for the UNHCR to intervene during the Obama administration’s border crisis, during which — as any conservative will remind you — the whole “children in cages” thing started.

What’s changed now? Well, for starters, the percentage of illegal immigrants requesting asylum.

In 2014, Department of Justice data shows, 47,528 migrants requested asylum. In 2016, that number was up to 82,386. By 2018, that number had nearly doubled to 162,881. Through June 30, 2019, the total for the year was 157,408.

It’s worth digging a bit deeper on those numbers, though. There are two types of asylum applications, “affirmative” and “defensive.”

An affirmative application is from someone who has yet to face deportation hearings. Defensive asylum, meanwhile, involves individuals who were already facing deportation. The percentage of defensive asylum cases has spiked significantly, as The Washington Post noted in April.

And, as The New York Times’ Thomas Friedman noted, the percentage of illegal immigrants claiming asylum after being apprehended has gone from 1 percent to roughly 30 percent in just a period of a few years.

So, yes, the system is broken. Yes, there’s an immigration crisis. The problem, however, isn’t one for the UNHCR, which is best suited to handle migrant flows from countries like Syria and Burma where there’s an actual human rights crisis.

There’s no way to look at those numbers and not realize that the massive spike in asylum claims isn’t based on any great humanitarian emergency that’s developed of late in Central America.

Instead, this is a matter of shifting tactics.

Even without all of this, there’s something deeply distressing about a politician inviting the United Nations in to deal with a matter of policy.

This is has nothing to do with solving a border crisis and everything to do with how the Trump administration has been handling it.

From reducing the credible fear threshold — which is low enough that three-quarters of asylum seekers currently meet it — to working with other Central American countries to ensure they secure their borders and take in asylum seekers themselves, the administration is taking common-sense steps, and common sense currently drives the left crazy.

Thus, it’s time for the UNHCR to come in and tell us what-for.

The likelihood of this happening is roughly zero. The current administration isn’t going to countenance it. If a Democratic administration takes over in 2021, the call for UNHCR intervention is going to go poof, no matter how bad the border crisis gets.

As a peek into what Ilhan Omar and the new American left thinks of U.S. sovereignty at the southern border, however, this is a dangerous and telling proposal.

Muslim Scholar just put Omar and Tlaib in their places in this explosive interview!
By Phil Schneider -  August 29, 2019 3 0

Is the Muslim faith really the religion of peace? Well, there are different views on this matter. But are Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar the new representatives of the Muslim faith for the future decades? If so, we have a big problem on our hands. They represent everything that is not positive about the Muslim faith – they represent everything that is based on falsehoods and classic anti-Semitism.

Muslim Scholar Slams Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib

Progressive Views and The Truth
There is a basic problem that progressives have when they discuss complex issues. They typically put aside basic facts and truths and focus on feelings and hunches. This is not due to a lack of intelligence. It is a conscious choice to side with what feels right and not with what IS right. That is because a basic attitude of so many progressives is that there is no absolute right or absolute wrong. This is absolutely wrong.

Once there is no right and wrong, then the world basically is one big chaotic place where everyone’s feelings are constantly being trampled on by everyone. This is an impossible state. If there is nothing that is just and nothing that is unjust, but just a world of amorphous feelings that people walk around expressing, then there is no point in anybody doing much of anything. After all, what point is there to anything in a world that has no absolute truth.

That is the essential difference between liberals and progressives. Age-old liberals do not let their feelings take over. They reign in their feelings with thoughts that are genuine and reasonable. But they prioritize rights and not responsibilities. Progressives not only do not believe in responsibilities, but they only care about feelings. This is totally against the age-old Judeo-Christian ethic of absolutism in the world. Once God is removed from the picture, there is chaos. We need to bring back the Lord into the picture of our moral codes.

The Tlaib-Omar Show Was a BDS Masterstroke
By Dr. Asaf Romirowsky August 29, 2019

BESA Center Perspectives Paper No. 1,270, August 29, 2019

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The recent farce surrounding the non-visit of US Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar to Israel highlighted the pernicious self-delusion and zero-sum exclusion of the BDS worldview, which polarizes American politics regarding Israel.

It is a great and quintessentially Israeli irony that Arab members of the Knesset have repeatedly proposed establishing an official Nakba Day – in other words, a day that commemorates the founding of the state as a catastrophe of historic proportions. While the Knesset’s Ministerial Committee on Legislative Affairs eventually banned such proposals, their persistence up to that point indicates how deeply ingrained 1948 is in the Arab psyche, including among modern day elected representatives.

The Nakba Day proposals were by no means unique. The Knesset has allowed Arab members to express anti-Israel views for decades, including calls for the country’s destruction and denials of its right ever to have existed at all.

Former Arab MK Hanin Zoabi consistently called for the termination of the state of Israel and sailed on the Mavi Marmara in its 2010 bid to break Israel’s security blockade of Gaza. In April 2018, she once again called for the State of Israel to be dissolved and replaced with either two states — one secular and one Palestinian – or one binational secular state.

Shortly after the second Lebanon War, MK Azmi Bishara expressed sympathy for Hezbollah, defining it as a resistance movement. According to Bishara, Hezbollah was fighting a war brought on by an Israeli government led by “mediocrities, cowards and opportunists” who were responsible for “barbaric vandalism and the deliberate targeting of civilians.”

Israel affords these opportunities in its Parliament to its democratically elected officials. It is unlikely that the US Congress would stand for calls by its members to give aid and comfort to its enemies and, indeed, to destroy America completely.

Congresswomen Tlaib and Omar have taken it upon themselves to question Israel’s right to exist and to promote its destruction through BDS. To put it bluntly: it is apparently bad form to advocate anti-American positions in Congress (other than to question the legitimacy of President Trump), but a Congressperson can express views that seek the destruction of American allies and still come off as a patriotic.

In BDS World, where there is no room for facts, supporters strive to create an appealing political façade for the benefit of left-wing progressive circles. Israel scored no points for denying entry to the Congresswomen, or even for showing a humanitarian gesture toward one of them. This was a lose-lose scenario that dealt in relative outcomes. Had Tlaib and Omar made the trip, Israel could have taken control of the story. Instead, Israel allowed it to be told by the BDS movement and its leaders.

US-Israel relations have been through worse, and they will survive this too. But the incident is worth contextualizing within the US-Israel political framework. Tlaib and Omar displayed remarkable audacity in openly lying about their trip, both in advance and then again after it was canceled. They falsely claimed they were planning to meet Israeli officials when their itinerary included only ‘Palestine’, Palestinians, and supporters of Palestinians.

Tlaib’s actions proved that her visit was never meant to be an impartial trip to the scene of the conflict. Nor was it about seeing her grandmother. The point was to showcase the so-called “occupation.” Such manipulations, compounded by the soft power enjoyed by pro-Palestinian groups, magnify a fictitious reality. They allow those groups to hijack the narrative of peace, justice, and human rights while yearning for Israel’s destruction.

US-Israel relations do not exist in vacuum, and US opinion is neither monolithic nor frozen in time. It has undergone significant shifts since 1948, with some groups becoming more favorable toward Israel and others less so. Nevertheless, as polls illustrate, support for Israel has become an American value, even if some elected officials feel otherwise. Sustaining this requires work and perseverance.

It is a serious challenge to get past the self-delusion and zero-sum exclusion of the BDS worldview, which polarizes American politics regarding Israel, and convey the actual reality of the Middle East. The normalization of antisemitism in American politics and culture – together with our growing collective dependency on technology and the general tone of politics – reduces complex issues to sound bites and drives polarization and ignorance.

Alabama GOP Approves Resolution To Expel Ilhan Omar from Congress Under Article 1, Sect. 5 of the Constitution
By Josh Manning
Published August 28, 2019 at 5:41am
The United States is supposed to be consumed with a broad culture war that’s left local, state, and the federal government gridlocked and citizens unable to agree on anything. Conservatism is supposedly at a standstill, and leftism is taking everything over.

Well, it turns out Alabama didn’t get the memo saying that’s how things have to be.

“The Heart of Dixie” is increasingly winning the hearts of conservatives thanks to its traditionally minded population, extremely strong stand against abortion, and now its willingness (or at least its GOP’s willingness) to challenge a problem that’s coming from another state — Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.
At the conclusion of the Alabama GOP’s summer meeting on Saturday, the party passed resolution 2019-12 (page 6), which officially urges the state’s “elected congressional delegation to proceed with the expulsion process in accordance to Article 1, Section 5 of the U.S. Constitution to expel Rep. Ilhan Omar from the United States House of Representatives.”

Article 1, Section 5 of the Constitution provides for the expulsion of members of Congress who engage in “disorderly behavior.” A two-thirds vote is required to expel a member.

TRENDING: Replacing Justice Ginsburg: Chaos in the Streets?

The Alabama GOP’s resolution cites four specific justifications for its urging the use of Article 1, Section 5.

The first justification is that “Rep. Omar has engaged in rhetoric that explicitly runs counter to American values and patriotism by falsely accusing U.S. armed forces of committing war crimes while on mission to liberate her home country of Somalia.”

This is a reference to Omar’s outlandish claim that American forces killed thousands of Somalis during what came to be known as the “Black Hawk Down” incident of 1993.

We should note that the U.S. was present in Somalia to save Omar’s people from abuse and starvation at the hands of warlords.

U.S. troops were literally the good guys, but Omar has no interest in giving them credit.

The second justification refers to Omar’s dismissing “the 9/11 terror attacks waged by radical Islam on the World Trade Center by stating ‘some people did something.'”

While Democrats tried to defend her, there was ultimately no credible defense for such a cold, dismissive, almost derisive reference to the worst attack on American soil in history.

Rep. Ilhan Omar demands US protect Palestinian rights
August 26, 2019 by Jerry McCormick
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) refuses to back down. She’s developed a taste for the spotlight and seems to be willing to do anything to keep it on her.
After she was denied entry into Israel, Omar shocked Americans by sending out a tweet insisting that it is the job of Congress to “witness firsthand what is happening on the ground in Palestine,” according to The Guardian.

Get Your Priorities Straight
Nancy Pelosi needs to sit down with Omar and go over her job description again, because she is clearly confused. Above all else, it is Omar’s job to represent the constituents in her district.

She is their voice in our government and before anything else, must ensure she is doing everything in her power to take their concerns to Congress and fight for them.

The fact that Omar seems to be more worried about Palestinians than Israelis is very disturbing. Israel is our most important ally in the Middle East. As such, we would think she would be more concerned about the violations against Israel than sticking up for Palestine.

It should also raise red flags that at every opportunity, Omar is not only critical of Israel but also backs numerous organizations that are known to be against Israel and in some cases, against America.

‘The Squad’ is No Better
Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) has followed the footsteps of Omar. Rather than expressing interest in helping our ally, she also rails against Israel and champions Palestinian issues.

What is even more bothersome than their constant anti-Israel rhetoric is the fact they are suggesting we hold up aide that is sent to Israel as a way to push their pro-Palestinian agenda.

The fact that of these women are open supporters of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Movement (BDS) should have everyone in this country worried.

It also very much explains why Israel does not want these women to set foot on their soil. It is a widespread belief that if the BDS movement is successful, the Israel we know today will be gone forever.

Both Omar and Tlaib are clearly not only against the Trump agenda but also against the American agenda and ideology.

They had an incredible opportunity to win this country over as some of the first Muslims in Congress, but all they are doing is driving a divisive wedge right into the heart of America.

Netanyahu’s Sound Decision to Bar Congresswomen Omar and Tlaib
By Ambassador Arye Mekel August 26, 2019

BESA Center Perspectives Paper No. 1,265, August 26, 2019

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Israeli PM Netanyahu was right to bar the entry of Muslim Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar. Both are radical anti-Israelis and supporters of the BDS movement, whose end goal is Israel’s destruction. Their visit to the territories would have been an anti-Israel circus goaded on by the international media. Leaders of the Democratic Party understand that if their party moves toward the radical left, as exemplified by Tlaib and Omar, they will lose their chance to reclaim the White House next year.

PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to bar US Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar from entering Israel was sound policy.

Rashida Tlaib is a Muslim Democrat from Michigan of Palestinian origin. She is now in her first term in the US House of Representatives. Tlaib has declared that she opposes US aid to “Netanyahu’s Israel” and supports the “right of return” for Palestinians as well as a one-state solution – the standard Palestinian/Arab euphemisms for Israel’s destruction through demographic subversion. She also backs BDS, which works for the same ultimate objective, and voted in July against a House resolution condemning BDS.

Ilhan Omar is a Muslim Democrat from Minnesota and a native of Somalia. She, too, is in her first term in Washington. She often criticizes Israel and the influence of the “Jewish lobby” (AIPAC) on the US. She is also a BDS supporter, and like Tlaib voted against the House resolution that denounced the movement. In February of this year, during a debate about AIPAC, she tweeted that “It’s all about the Benjamins” (a slang term for money). She was castigated for doing so by her own party and by Jewish organizations, which rightly saw the tweet as antisemitic.

The pair referred to their intended trip as a “delegation to Palestine.” They had planned to tour Palestinian cities in the West Bank as well as East Jerusalem and meet with Palestinian figures and international “human rights organizations.” The trip, which would have been covered intensively by the international media, would have been an anti-Israel circus.

It was precisely to avoid situations of this kind that the Knesset passed a law more than two years ago prohibiting entry visas for foreign citizens who call for boycotting Israel. These two BDS-supporting congresswomen certainly fall in that category. But was preventing their entry wise? Many claim its damage exceeded its benefit. But is that the case?

A few weeks ago, the Israeli ambassador to the US, Ron Dermer, a close confidant of Netanyahu, announced that the two Congresswomen would be granted visas. But pressure from President Trump, who declared that granting them entry to Israel would indicate weakness (the ultimate sin in his world), prompted a reversal. Ultimately the drama turned farcical: Tlaib said she only wanted to visit her grandmother, permission to do so was granted, and she said she still wasn’t coming.

The accusation now being hurled at Netanyahu is that he harmed Israel’s interests by giving in to Trump. Haaretz commentator Chemi Shalev (who harshly criticized Netanyahu for defying the previous occupant of the White House) even compared the PM to a borrower on the grey market whose debts to Trump have grown to the point that he can no longer say no to him.

Indeed, Netanyahu had no choice but to say amen. Israel needs the US president, whoever he may be, and generally accedes to requests from the White House. A notable case was during the Gulf War (1991), when President George H.W. Bush asked PM Shamir not to respond to 39 missiles that Saddam Hussein had launched at Israel. Although the entire defense establishment, fearing a loss of deterrent power, pushed for a massive response, Shamir opted to go along with the president’s demand. Israel did not respond.

The reversal in favor of barring the entry of the two US legislators predictably upset some members of the Democratic Party, a factor that was probably taken into account when the decision was made. But the Democratic Congressional leadership is worried about the shift toward the radical left that the “squad” represents (which, in addition to Tlaib and Omar, includes Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez). The leadership fears that if the party moves along with the squad, it will cost them the White House next year.

Israel’s quarrel with the Democrats will likely be brief – not only because the Democratic leadership is not entirely behind the squad, but because it understands Israel’s need to stay on the good side of the American president. That is how it has always been, and it will remain that way if and when a Democratic president is elected. The recent visit to Israel by 41 Democratic members of the House, most of them newcomers to Washington, was much more indicative of Israel’s relations with the Democratic Party than the visit that did not materialize.

Refusing Entry to Foreign Nationals: How Common Is It?
By Prof. Hillel Frisch August 26, 2019
FacebookTwitterPrintEmailMore94

Rashida Tlaib, photo via Wikimedia
BESA Center Perspectives Paper No. 1,266, August 26, 2019
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: How unusual was Israel’s refusal to allow Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib to enter Israel to engage in hostile political activity? Not very, based on a comparison with the UK.

Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib are both first-term Democrat members of Congress. They are also both Muslims, inveterate Israel-bashers, and vocal supporters of BDS. Omar was born in Somalia; Tlaib is of Palestinian origin.

The pair had been planning to visit the Palestinian Authority on a purported “delegation to Palestine.” Israel refused to allow Omar entry, and granted Tlaib permission to enter on condition that she restrict her visit to family matters. Tlaib rejected those terms and will not be visiting.

Israel’s decision to bar Omar entirely and restrict Tlaib’s movements has aroused great interest and provoked much outrage. But how unusual was it?

A look at the visa policy of the EU, which claims to be committed to equal and fair treatment, demonstrates how selective and discriminatory states can be when it comes to letting people in.

Nationals of only 62 countries and territories holding ordinary passports may enter the EU’s Schengen Area without visas. (This is the area in which free movement is allowed within the EU.)

Those 62 countries and territories are overwhelmingly wealthy and white.

As there are 193 member states in the UN, this policy implies that the nationals of only about a third of the world’s states can travel freely to the EU – and the overwhelming majority of states whose nationals need visas are from the Third World. Among them are the two most populous: China and India.

Discrimination hardly ends there. Nationals from states who require visas for entry into the EU are not treated equally. According to EU data, nearly 10% of 18 million visa applications were rejected – but the rejection rate was not uniform. The rejection rate for the African state of Nigeria was 49.8%; for Guinea, 46.8%; and for the troubled and poverty-stricken Democratic Republic of Congo, 46% – over four times higher than the overall average and more than 10 times higher than for nationals from Ukraine and Georgia, which are Christian states.

Nor do nationals from Arab states receive fair treatment: The rejection rate for Iraq is 47.8% and for Algeria 45.5%. This selectiveness even extends to visa fees. Adults from many Arab states must pay $70, but the cost is only $41 for nationals of Georgia, Kosovo, Russia, and Ukraine. Note that it is the nationals of the poorer countries who are the more heavily burdened by fees.

Given the tense relations between the EU and Russia, this largesse on the part of the EU can reasonably be held to reflect the EU’s preference for immigrants from that country.

Information is far more hard to come by regarding restrictions or refusal of entry for political reasons. The EU does not provide such information, and for the UK, it is dated.

Yet even data from the first decade of the new century make clear that the oldest liberal democracy has no qualms about refusing entry to people whose convictions and rhetoric might harm British national security.

The persons refused entry were not criminals or people who had committed terrorist acts. Had they been active terrorists, it would have been incumbent upon the UK authorities to either extradite them to the countries where they had committed their crimes or, in the absence of acceptable international standards of justice in those countries, to place the terrorists on trial themselves.

Two individuals who were barred from entering the UK were Rav Meir Kahane and Moshe Feiglin. Neither had been tried in Israel for terrorist activities. Feiglin appeared on a list of 101 people denied entrance into the UK between 2005 and 2009.

Most of the people on the list, which included nationals from a variety of countries ranging from the US to Iran, were denied entrance on the grounds that they were “considered to be engaging in unacceptable behaviour by seeking to provoke others to serious criminal acts and fostering hatred which might lead to inter-community violence,” in the words of a Home Office press release.

Though most of the names on the list were reprehensible characters like Louis Farrakhan and American neo-Nazi Richard Spencer, whose barring would have elicited little protest except from bigots, the list also included “neutral” controversial people such as Julian Assange (whose “neutrality” changed when he was charged with sexual assault).

Regarding Congresswomen Omar and Tlaib, they clearly fit the bill of “seeking to provoke others to serious criminal acts and fostering hatred which might lead to inter-community violence.” Their inflammatory rhetoric threatened to inflame existing passions among those who wish to harm Israelis.

This is especially true in light of the proportionality principle so often invoked in liberal states. The incidence of refusal of entrance must take into account the relative threat to national security. The threat of terrorism is much greater in Israel than it is in the UK, measured either in terms of victims or in terms of arrests of would-be perpetrators. Israel is thus entirely justified in refusing entrance to people whose expressed aim is to harm Israeli national security.

Both Israelis and Palestinians are better off with Tlaib and Omar remaining in the US. There, one hopes they will work on behalf of their constituents rather than spend their time trying to provoke violence in the Holy Land.

Israeli teenager killed by Palestinian terrorists
August 24, 2019 by Jerry McCormick
Earlier this week, a 17-year-old Israeli girl was murdered at the hands of Palestinian terrorists in yet another cowardly attack.

Ignoring the Truth
Both Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) have made serious accusations against Israel. However, we never hear either of them condemn senseless attacks such as this against innocents.

According to Israeli publications, Rina Shnerb was with her brother and father on a hiking expedition when the attack occurred.

Reports stated that Palestinian terrorists threw a bomb at the three of them as they were hiking near Dolev at the Ein Bubin Spring.

Rina was killed by the explosion. Her brother, Dvir, was seriously injured and their father, Rabbi Eitan Shnerb, was also injured, although his injuries are not believed to be serious.

Rabbi Schnerb described the attack:

I remember everything. We called the hotline and were told it was possible to enter [the spring]. We parked in the parking lot upstairs. When we got close to the spring, a large explosive device went off and everything turned black. I heard Dvir shouting, and I shouted “Rina, Rina.” I looked down, but after seeing Rina, I understood … Rina saved us all. She died the death of heroes. Her face was intact. I gave her a kiss and said to her: “We will be strong.”
Sadly, Omar and Tlaib will probably never mention this attack, and if they are asked about it by the media, they will likely attempt to place the blame elsewhere.

Attacked on Their Own Soil
This is the life many Israelis lead today. They cannot even enjoy the landscape of their own country without fearing for their lives.

These attacks are encouraged by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, who has authorized government payments to terrorists and their families.

Abbas claims those killed trying to carry out these attacks are actually martyrs — not terrorists.

The Palestinian leader also recently gave a speech in which his vision of the future for Israel was very clear. “We shall remain, and nobody can remove us from our homeland,” he said. “If they want, they themselves can leave. Those who are foreign to this land have no right to it. So we say to them: Every stone you have [used] to build on our land, and every house you have built on our land, is bound to be destroyed, Allah willing.”

This is the Palestine that both Omar and Tlaib defend — an entity that promotes open bounties on the citizens of one of our most cherished allies.

“We are watching you Nancy Pelosi. We are watching you Chuck Schumer,” declares Dov Hikind, founder of Americans Against Anti-Semitism.

Former NY State Assemblyman Dov Hikind, founder of Americans Against Anti-Semitism, a grassroots coalition that mobilizes supporters to take action against anti-Semites, implores House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer to take meaningful action against Democratic Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib.

In a tweet on Sunday, Hikind reveals the two congresswomen’s “latest outrage” – distributing cartoons by Carlos Latuff, who participated and won second place in the 2006 Iranian cartoon competition on Holocaust denial. One of Latuf’s cartoons shows Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump silencing Tlaib and Omar, respectively. A Star of David is in the center of the cartoon.

Another of Latuff’s cartoons celebrates the murder of an American soldier, Hikind notes.

Hikind says that he is waiting for Pelosi and Schumer to act.

This is far from the first time that the two congresswomen have expressed themselves in an anti-Israel and anti-Semitic manner.

Tlaib has already argued that Palestinians created “a safe haven for Jews” after the Holocaust, which is very far from the truth. Now, she promotes cartoons from a Holocaust denier.

ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt said in a statement: “Reps. Tlaib and Omar absolutely shouldn’t have lifted up the work of a cartoonist who frequently promotes hate toward Israel, mocks the Holocaust and traffics in anti-Semitic tropes. Doing so legitimizes his bigotry.”

SQUAD SPEAKS: Omar Says Israel Implementing Trump’s ‘Muslim Ban,’ Slams ‘Brutal Occupation’
posted by Hannity Staff - 8.15.19
Embattled Representative Ilhan Omar publicly reacted to Israel’s decision to deny her entrance into the country Thursday; calling the move “an affront” and an “insult to democratic values.”
“It is an affront that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, under pressure from President Trump, would deny entry to representatives of the U.S. government,” Omar said in a statement. “Trump’s Muslim ban is what Israel is implementing, this time against two duly elected Members of Congress.”
“As a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, it is my job to conduct oversight of foreign aid from the United States of America and to legislate on human rights practices around the world. The irony of the ‘only democracy’ in the Middle East making such a decision is that it is both an insult to democratic values and a chilling response to a visit by government officials from an allied nation,” she added.

Israel’s interior minister blasted Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) for rejecting the Jewish state’s offer to allow the far-left congresswoman to visit relatives in Israel’s West Bank, saying her “hatred” for the country outweighs her love for her grandmother.
“Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib just tweeted that she will not visit Israel. Last night, she sent me a letter asking me to allow her to visit her grandmother, who is in her 90s, because ‘this might be my last opportunity to see her.’ I agreed to this humanitarian request, but it turns out that it was just a provocation aimed at embarrassing Israel,” tweeted Aryeh Deri.

Rep. Ilhan Omar uses Rep. Steve King’s ‘gross’ comments to deflect from own scandal
August 15, 2019
https://www.conservativeinstitute.org/conservative-news/omar-kings-comments-deflect.htm
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) took advantage of a “gross” blunder by Rep. Steve King (R-IA) in an attempt to minimize one of her own scandals.

Omar said that Republicans who are “fixed on smearing” her with claims that she married her brother are just “projecting their filth” after King suggested that humanity may never have grown to its present size and scope in the absence of rape and incest. While King’s comments were regrettable, what he said doesn’t make Omar’s numerous scandals any less real.

The first-term congresswoman appeared to suggest that Republicans are obsessed with incest, a charge not out of character for the liberal firebrand, who has made numerous tin-eared comments — about 9/11, Jews, al-Qaida, and other sensitive topics.

Omar’s deflection
King has frequently stirred controversy with his comments, especially those on immigration. The Republican is facing calls to resign from Democrats and even Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) after he suggested Wednesday that the human race would not exist as we know it without rape and incest in its ancestral past. King was defending abortion restrictions, including in cases of rape and incest.

“What if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled out anyone who was a product of rape and incest?” he said. “Would there be any population of the world left if we did that? Considering all the wars and all the rapes and pillages that happened throughout all these different nations, I know that I can’t say that I was not a product of that.”

Omar didn’t hesitate to use King’s comments to deflect questions about her marital history. Republicans have alleged that Omar married her brother in an immigration fraud scheme, a claim that Omar called “disgusting lies” in the fall. Since then, Omar has shut out reporters who have pressed her on the claims and has kept relatively quiet as scrutiny has intensified, including from her hometown newspaper, the Minnesota Star-Tribune.

But on Wednesday, she took the opportunity to throw up a smokescreen, exclaiming, “Gross! This would explain why these weirdos are fixed on smearing me with claims of incest. Projecting their filth, unreal.”

Marital inconsistencies
Earlier this year, Minnesota campaign finance officials found that Omar filed taxes jointly with her first husband, Ahmed Hirsi, while married to another man, Ahmed Elmi, who some have alleged is in fact her biological brother. Omar married Elmi in 2009, then divorced him in their faith tradition in 2011. But she didn’t legally divorce him until 2017 — years after she reportedly reunited with Hirsi.

While many Democrats have defended her against the so-called “smear,” independent journalists at Power Line and elsewhere have uncovered inconsistencies in Omar’s official story. For example, records show that Omar was still living with Hirsi when she claimed to have married Elmi. Even President Trump suggested that there is truth to the allegations against Omar back in July.

“There’s a lot of talk about the fact that she was married to her brother. I know nothing about it. I hear she was married to her brother. You’re asking me a question about it. I don’t know, but I’m sure that somebody will be looking at that,” he said.

Back in January, Omar said that King had “no business being in Congress” after he was removed from committee assignments for wondering why “white nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization” had become offensive terms. But some have made comparisons between Omar and King in terms of their propensity toward incendiary rhetoric.

Omar’s latest remarks, which seem to suggest that all Republicans are “weirdos” fixated with incest, only adds to a record of controversial remarks made since her entry to Congress in January and before. Her attempt to shift focus away from her own troubling past is utterly transparent and will, with any luck, be completely unsuccessful.

Democratic congresswoman Rashida Tlaib met with supporters Friday at a Shabbat event in Detroit sponsored by a left-wing Jewish group that backs the boycott of Israel. The event took place after Tlaib said she would not visit her family in the West Bank despite being granted permission by Jerusalem.

Tlaib requested and was allowed to visit her grandmother on humanitarian grounds after she and Rep. Ilhan Omar on Thursday were barred from visiting the West Bank and Jerusalem in their capacity as US lawmakers because of their support for boycotting Israel. She changed her mind about the family trip hours after it was approved on Friday, citing its “humiliating” terms.

The Detroit News reported that around 60 people attended the event in Detroit’s Pallister Park organized by Jewish Vote for Peace, a new group that describes itself as the sister organization to Jewish Voice for Peace and as its political and advocacy arm. Jewish Voice for Peace supports the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.

Organizers called the event “Shabbat in the Park with Rashida.” Video from the scene showed attendees reciting prayers and singing songs in Hebrew and holding signs with the slogan “Dignity from Detroit to Palestine” (Tlaib represents Michigan’s 13th congressional district, which includes parts of Detroit).

“Thank you for uplifting peace, love and justice. Thank you for not politicizing what has happened to me because I’m still a granddaughter,” a tearful Tlaib told the group.  “I cannot tell you how much love I feel here.”

“More than anything, I’m a granddaughter. I’m also proud of my Palestinian roots,” she said, according to the Detroit Free Press.

US President Donald Trump on Friday weighed in on Israel’s decision to bar Tlaib and Omar, saying that Tlaib had “obnoxiously” turned down the chance to visit her grandmother.

“Israel was very respectful & nice to Rep. Rashida Tlaib, allowing her permission to visit her ‘grandmother.’ As soon as she was granted permission, she grandstanded & loudly proclaimed she would not visit Israel. Could this possibly have been a setup? Israel acted appropriately!” Trump wrote on Twitter.

In a subsequent tweet he said: “Rep. Tlaib wrote a letter to Israeli officials desperately wanting to visit her grandmother. Permission was quickly granted, whereupon Tlaib obnoxiously turned the approval down, a complete setup. The only real winner here is Tlaib’s grandmother. She doesn’t have to see her now!”

Tlaib said to the Detroit Free Press: “I don’t respond to his tweets… I can’t waste my time responding to tweets.”

Her grandmother responded to the comments on Saturday, saying of the president “may God ruin him,” and expressing disappointment and confusion that the congresswoman would not be visiting.

Israel on Thursday barred Tlaib and Omar — the first two Muslim women ever elected to Congress — after initially saying it would allow their visit.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, justifying the unprecedented decision to ban serving US legislators from Israel, said it was plain that Omar and Tlaib intended to use the visit to harm Israel. “Several days ago, we received [Omar and Tlaib’s] trip itinerary,” Netanyahu said in a statement, “which clarified that they planned a visit whose sole purpose was to support boycotts and deny Israel’s legitimacy. For example, they called their destination ‘Palestine’ and not ‘Israel,’ and unlike all Democratic and Republican members of Congress before them, they did not seek any meeting with any Israeli official, whether government or opposition.”

Omar contradicted the prime minister on Friday, saying she had planned to sit with Knesset members and security officials.

Hebrew media reports claimed Netanyahu had been heavily pressured by Trump to block the two congresswomen. The announcement that Israel would not allow the pair in came shortly after Trump tweeted that the Jewish state would be showing weakness if it gave them permission to come.

Tlaib then submitted a letter requesting to be allowed in despite the ban, citing her elderly grandmother, and promised not to promote boycotting Israel during her visit. The request was approved by Interior Minister Aryeh Deri.

The congresswoman backtracked hours later. Taking to Twitter, Tlaib posted a photo of her grandmother and said Israel’s agreement to allow her to visit only under certain terms was humiliating. She stated that she would not “bow down to their oppressive & racist policies.” Tlaib had been heavily criticized by Palestinian groups for initially agreeing to Israel’s terms for a family visit.

The Israeli ban on the two congresswoman was criticized by centrist, left-wing and Arab Israeli lawmakers, and by many prominent US Democratic leaders, notably including House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, who led a group of Democratic Congressmen on a visit to Israel just days ago. The ban was also criticized by the pro-Israel AIPAC lobby group, and was not backed by the umbrella Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, even after the Conference hosted a call by Israel’s Ambassador to the US Ron Dermer seeking to justify the decision.

WASHINGTON — A senior Democratic lawmaker, who has just returned from Israel after leading a 41-member delegation, on Friday slammed the Jewish state for forcing Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib to sign a letter promising not to promote boycotting Israel during her visit

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, a staunch supporter of Israel, called the incident disrespectful to Tlaib and to the US Congress.

Hoyer said he was upset Israel reversed its initial decision and decided to bar Tlaib and fellow Congresswoman Ilhan Omar because of their backing for the boycotting of Israel.

“Even more disappointing is that, after deciding to allow Rep. Tlaib to visit her grandmother, who lives in the West Bank, the Israeli government required her to sign a letter in some way limiting her actions while in Israel and/or the West Bank,” Hoyer said in a statement.

“To my knowledge, no Member of Congress has ever been asked to agree to preconditions in order to visit Israel. The public release of that letter compounded the unacceptability of this requirement,” he said. “Not only was this request disrespectful of Rep. Tlaib but of the United States Congress as well.

In a furious statement on Thursday, Hoyer had called Israel’s decision to deny entry to the pair “outrageous, regardless of their itinerary or their views” and urged Israel to reverse it. He said the move was “contrary to the statement and assurances to me by Israel’s ambassador to the United States that ‘out of respect for the US Congress and the great alliance between Israel and America, we would not deny entry to any Member of Congress into Israel.’ That representation was not true.”

The “unwarranted” and “self-destructive” move, Hoyer said, “reflects weakness, not strength… Instead, the Israeli government should seek to engage these Members of Congress in a dialogue regarding Israel’s security and the future of both Israelis and Palestinians.”

Tlaib on Friday changed her mind about visiting the West Bank, hours after Israel said it would allow her to visit relatives in the Palestinian territory on humanitarian grounds.

“Silencing me & treating me like a criminal is not what [my grandmother] wants for me. It would kill a piece of me. I have decided that visiting my grandmother under these oppressive conditions stands against everything I believe in — fighting against racism, oppression & injustice.”

Her comments came following Interior Minister Aryeh Deri’s decision to allow her to go to the West Bank, after she submitted a letter requesting to be allowed in despite the ban, citing her elderly grandmother, and promised not to promote boycotting Israel during her visit.

In response to Tlaib’s announcement that she would not be coming after all, Deri tweeted: “Apparently [her request] was a provocation to make Israel look bad. Her hatred for Israel is greater than her love for her grandmother.”

Deri, who tweets almost entirely in Hebrew, also issued his tweet in English and tagged US President Donald Trump, who has been vocal in his opposition to Israel allowing in the two congresswomen, the first two Muslim women ever elected to Congress.

“I would like to request admittance to Israel in order to visit my relatives, and specifically my grandmother, who is in her 90s and lives in Beit Ur al-Fouqa,” Tlaib wrote in her letter to Deri. “This could be my last opportunity to see her. I will respect any restrictions and will not promote boycotts against Israel during my visit.”

In announcing her about-face, Tlaib said she had sent the letter to Deri because she broke down after reading of her grandmother’s disappointment to hear she was not coming.

A statement from Deri’s office Friday morning said he had decided to allow the congresswoman into the country based on her letter. It said he “expressed hope that she will live up to her promise and that the visit will only be for humanitarian needs.”

Israel had announced in July that it would allow Omar and Tlaib to visit, despite a controversial 2017 Israeli law prohibiting any foreigner from entering the country who “knowingly issues a public call for boycotting Israel.”

But on Thursday, shortly after Trump tweeted that allowing them to enter would “show great weakness,” Jerusalem reversed that decision, saying it would ban the lawmakers over their support of the Palestinian boycott, divestment and sanctions movement. In that announcement, Israel said it would allow Tlaib to visit, on humanitarian grounds, if she wished to see her relatives in the West Bank.

Hoyer also criticized Trump for his role.

“This matter is a self-inflicted wound by one of America’s closest allies, one of our closest friends, and a vibrant democracy. President Trump’s urging of such action and its implementation were – and are – unacceptable,” he wrote.

The Israeli government decided Friday to allow Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) to enter the country to visit her Palestinian relatives in Judea and Samaria (the “West Bank”).
Tlaib and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) were denied permission to enter the country, under a 2017 law that bars those who support boycotts of Israel. However, the Israeli government indicated that it could allow Tlaib to apply for a “humanitarian” visa, provided she did not promote boycotts.

Tlaib apparently agreed to those conditions, according to the Times of Israel:

“I would like to request admittance to Israel in order to visit my relatives, and specifically my grandmother, who is in her 90s and lives in Beit Ur al-Fouqa,” Tlaib wrote in her letter to [interior minister Aryeh] Deri. “This could be my last opportunity to see her. I will respect any restrictions and will not promote boycotts against Israel during my visit.”

A statement from Deri’s office Friday morning said he had decided to allow the congresswoman into the country based on her letter. It said he “expressed hope that she will live up to her promise and that the visit will only be for humanitarian needs.”

Israel had indicated several weeks ago that it would allow Omar and Tlaib to enter, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that his government had changed its decision based on the fact that their proposed itinerary referred to Israel as “Palestine,” that they had declined to meet with any Israeli officials (in opposition or government), and that their itinerary was being organized by an anti-Israel group.

President Trump also encouraged Israel to deny them entry.

The development comes after Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely confirmed the Jewish state would deny entry to far-left freshman congresswoman and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), citing their support for the BDS movement.

“Israel has decided — we won’t enable the members of Congress to enter the country,” Hotovely told Israeli public radio, according to the Times of Israel.

“We won’t allow those who deny our right to exist in this world to enter Israel. In principle this is a very justified decision,” she added.

The announcement came after a Channel 12 report stating Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was considering a proposal to block the “Squad” members from entering the country on Sunday.

In 2017, Israel enacted a law that prohibits a foreigner entry who “knowingly issues a public call for boycotting Israel.” The Interior and Strategic Affairs ministries have used the rule to deny anti-Israel activists entry to the country.

Netanyahu expanded on Israel’s decision to bar the lawmakers in a Facebook post,

“As a vibrant and free democracy, Israel is open to any critic and criticism, with one exception: Israel’s law prohibits the entry of people who call and operate to boycott Israel, as is the case with other democracies that prevent the entry of people whose perception harms the country,” Netanyahu said.

“The two-member congressional visitation plan shows that their intent is to hurt Israel and increase its unrest against it,” he added.

In recent days, President Donald Trump reportedly lamented the idea of the far-left lawmakers visiting Israel and took to Twitter Thursday to express his displeasure.

“It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep.Tlaib to visit. They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds,” the president tweeted. “Minnesota and Michigan will have a hard time putting them back in office. They are a disgrace!”

In July, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a resolution rejecting the BDS campaign targeting Israel — a measure Omar and Tlaib voted against.

The resolution, formally known as House Resolution 246, also called for additional security aid to Israel.

Omar previously introduced a measure countering the anti-BDS resolution which affirms Americans’ right to participate in boycotts, which Tlaib is a co-sponsor of.

The two White House hopefuls weighed in shortly after Israel confirmed it would bar Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) from visiting the country this weekend over their support for the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement targeting Israel.
“Israel doesn’t advance its case as a tolerant democracy or unwavering US ally by barring elected members of Congress from visiting because of their political views. This would be a shameful, unprecedented move,” Warren tweeted. “I urge Israel’s government to allow @IlhanMN and@RashidaTlaib entry.”

https://besacenter.org/perspectives-papers/tlaib-omar-israel-ban/
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The Israeli decision to ban US Representatives Tlaib and Omar on the basis of their support for BDS has elicited a firestorm of comments from Israel’s detractors and supporters. The decision, warranted but unnecessary, illustrates the deep dysfunction that has come to characterize US-Israeli relations. The poisoning of American attitudes initiated by President Obama and the hysteria that accompanies everything associated with President Trump (and Prime Minister Netanyahu) set the stage for Tlaib and Omar to create a lose-lose situation for Israel. Their trip would have resulted in condemnations at the end, or worse. But the manner in which Israeli public diplomacy failed to make its case shows bad situational awareness and crisis management that was unable to overcome the Congresswomen’s bad faith or Trump’s unwanted intervention.

The last-minute Israeli decision to ban US members of Congress and prominent BDS supporters Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar is the culmination of a drama set into motion several weeks ago when their trip was announced. It represents a bad outcome of a simple, predictable trap set by the two and their supporters. The episode also depicts the dysfunctional condition of Israeli and American politics and the relationship between the two.

The trip was announced in July after Tlaib and Omar refused to participate in the now traditional Israel trip organized by AIPAC. The matter was initially subject to much speculation and conflicting statements from Israeli officials about whether the two would be denied entry, with the conventional wisdom being that they would be admitted.

But from the beginning it was apparent that Palestinian-American Tlaib, who had regularly met with American Muslim Brotherhood and Hezbollah supporters and accused American Jews of “dual loyalties,” and the Somali-American Omar, who introduced BDS legislation in the House of Representatives, constructed (perhaps even unwittingly) a no win situation for Israel. The Israeli choices were unpalatable: they could have been admitted and create a media circus for the duration of the visit, when they would undoubtedly have issued various condemnations of Israel, or denied admission.

Arguably, the worst outcome would have been a visit to the Temple Mount by the two, which could have sparked riots resulting in injuries perhaps even to the Congresswomen themselves. More likely is that Israeli (or even American) security officials would have prevented them from visiting the Temple Mount at all, resulting in a well-publicized confrontation.

From the Israeli side the conflicting messages and last minute denial depicted government indecision. But this decision was followed by the release by the Prime Minister’s office of information showing the trip had been partially funded by Miftah, a leading BDS organization, and an itinerary that featured no meetings with Israeli officials or private citizens, only Palestinian ones. Their trip was hardly two sided or even educational; it was simply a propaganda mission.

Had this information been released earlier – even by a matter of hours before the final decision was announced – it could have forced their hand or at least made the Israeli decision more comprehensible. As is so often the case the optics of a potentially justifiable decision were muddied by delay, indecision, and apparent lack of concern.

The American responses were equally predictable. President Trump had broadcast his belief that the two should be denied entry and with characteristic caprice tweeted “It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep. Tlaib to visit. They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds. Minnesota and Michigan will have a hard time putting them back in.”

By doing so and for whatever reasons, this made it appear that Trump was alternately forcing Netanyahu’s hand or attempting to support his decision (prior to the Israeli elections), and that Netanyahu was kowtowing to an American diktat. Trump’s antipathy towards the “squad” of socialists and particularly Omar and Tlaib, who have accused him repeatedly of “racism” and “Islamophobia,” is deep, as is his overwrought philosemitism.

Democratic presidential candidates, none of whom are particularly disposed towards Israel in the first place, expressed outrage. Senator Elizabeth Warren stated “Israel doesn’t advance its case as a tolerant democracy or unwavering US ally by barring elected members of Congress from visiting because of their political views. This would be a shameful, unprecedented move.”

Senator Bernie Sanders went further and stated the move was “a sign of enormous disrespect to these elected leaders, to the United States Congress, and to the principles of democracy”. For her part, Omar called the move an “affront.” More gentle disapproval came from Israel supporters including AIPAC and other communal organizations.

These and other condemnations conveniently overlook that Israel has done the same with legislators from other countries, as the US has with an Israeli parliamentarian as well as a host of others including football great Diego Maradona, singer Amy Winehouse and the prominent Indian politician (and current Prime Minister) Narendra Modi, on far flimsier grounds. Denying entry to legislators is unusual but hardly unprecedented.

That seemingly intelligent commentators like Washington Post columnist Anne Applebaum depicted the decision, however misguided, as somehow authorizing “authoritarian leaders” around the world to begin “barring opposition politicians from travel” is as bizarre as it is disheartening. “Authoritarians” do not need a license to do what they have been doing forever. The fact that it was Israel barring (Muslim) Congresswomen apparently has permanently changed global politics.

In general, the venom of denunciations of Israeli policy and expressions of hurt may index the desire to fundamentally change the relationship between the two countries. But the disproportionate response, the sheer outbreak of hysteria and hyperbole, also measures the outsized role Israel plays in American politics.

Beyond this, the description of the decision as unprecedented and an affront to Congress is not only deliberately exaggerated and ahistorical: it is also an un-ironic endorsement of Israel’s vassal status. Vassalage was “proven” by “taking Trump’s’ advice” and by making a sovereign decision. But Democrats also expect to be kowtowed to, to perhaps even more than Trump, only as Israel’s saviors and in the name of “preserving Israeli democracy.” Coupled with this were threats, which quickly emerged to the effect that payback should be expected when a Democrat eventually assumes the presidency. Here too Israel was destined to lose. In this sense, Netanyahu’s largely uncommented on foreign policy strategy to shift Israeli reliance away from the US seems prescient.

That the Tlaib-Omar story overshadowed a far more consequential revelation that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s emails had been directly sent from her home server to a web address in China speaks volumes about the tendentious if not bizarre priorities of the interlocked US media-political establishment. There was no way the Tlaib-Omar visit was not going to become front-page news, since real front-page news is actively downgraded. Israel invariably leads. This is a sign of dysfunctional American politics, awash with conspiracy theories and antisemitism since Trump’s election.

But the lack of anticipation on the part of Israeli officials rankles; the train was sighted long before the wreck occurred. An impetuous and destructive intervention by Trump should have been anticipated and contingencies planned for. There is no sign this was done. Israeli public diplomacy, clumsily divided between the Prime Minister’s Office, the multifaceted Strategic Affairs Ministry, and the kneecapped Foreign Ministry, fell between the chairs. Coordination with the US at the formal diplomatic level and that of various legislators and organizations was also lacking.

In the end, it would have been wise to allow Omar and Tlaib to visit and to have been gracious in the face of their animus. Nevertheless, despite the storm, it is unlikely that this particular train wreck will destroy the Israeli-American relationship or even invigorate the BDS movement. It will instead cement views, including hostility, on all sides and reinforce sadly warranted views of Israeli diplomatic ineptitude. The fixation on the Great Satan Trump has also long been firmly joined with that of the Little Satan Netanyahu and this incident will only intensify that perception, at least among the left-leaning chattering classes.

But the sheer abnormality of the US-Israel relationship, where demands for vassalage mix with stubborn and often clumsy assertions of sovereignty, against the backdrops of a deep and invaluable strategic alliance, antisemitism and regional chaos, and rapid changes in American Jewish and broader US and global demographics, cannot be understated. That abnormality, a unique artifact of culture and history, cannot be overcome, only managed. Both sides had better start taking the challenge seriously.

AOC has said shocking things, but THIS is just unforgivable
By Phil Schneider -  August 13, 2019 7782 0

Are there actually congresswomen today who support violent riots against the State of Israel? The answer is unfortunately yes. AOC qualifies her support of the violence by saying that the protesters have no choice but to riot. Again? They have no choice? What about the choice to not riot?

Are the Arabs in Gaza truly a million caged in Arabs who have no choice to riot? Let’s look at the facts.

Not One Jew in the Gaza Strip
Since the summer of 2005, not one Jew has lived in the Gaza Strip. Israel unilaterally moved out of the Gaza Strip and removed all 8,000+ Jews from the Gaza Strip in order to “give peace a chance.” The Arabs in Gaza have complete self-determination. They had a vote and voted in the Hamas government. The Hamas government has two over-arching goals. Preserve their own power in the region and fight to destroy the State of Israel.

Despite this harsh reality, Israel still sends in loads of supplies via tens of trucks that go into the Gaza Strip every day. The world and Israel send millions of dollars every month into the Gaza Strip. But the corrupt leadership hordes the money to build themselves castles. And with the rest of the money, they finance the building of a massive terror tunnel infrastructure with enormous amounts of cement. This is done by choice – by the leadership and the masses in the Gaza Strip. They can choose to NOT build terror tunnels and to NOT build castles. They can choose to NOT have violent riots and NOT attempt to invade Israel. But they choose otherwise.

AOC is not merely wrong. She is clueless and represents the young and up and coming progressive leftists who spout based on feelings and predictable policy viewpoints that leftists spout in a knee-jerk manner.
