Report: FBI probing marriage fraud allegations against Rep. Ilhan Omar

There have been fraud allegations of various descriptions swirling around Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) for the past several years, and reports have emerged in recent weeks that federal law enforcement agencies may be taking a closer look at those accusations.

Those early reports have now received additional confirmation by way of the New York Post, which reported that, in addition to as many as two other federal entities, the FBI is conducting a review of claims lodged against the congresswoman — including the assertion that she committed immigration, marriage, and tax fraud by marrying her biological brother.

Report: Feds probing Omar
Echoing an initial report from TheBlaze, the Post revealed that in October two FBI agents met with a “concerned party” and received a “trove of documents” relating to Omar’s marriage in 2009 to a man named Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, who has been alleged to be Omar’s brother.

Central to that allegation is the claim that Omar married Elmi, a citizen of the United Kingdom, so he could get a green card and attend college in the United States.


The agents who received the documents reportedly informed the “concerned party” that the information would be shared with both U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Department of Education.

However, there was apparently no commitment to launch a full-fledged investigation, and none of the three agencies would confirm or deny the existence of any probe when queried by the Post.

Multiple claims of fraud
The Daily Wire reported that if the allegations are true, and if federal probes have indeed been opened into the allegations against Omar, she could face charges of violating of immigration laws and committing education and student loan fraud, marriage fraud, tax fraud, and even perjury.

The bulk of these allegations stem from Omar’s marriage to Elmi in 2009, whom she wed after splitting with her first husband, Ahmed Hirsi, whom she unofficially married in their “faith tradition” in 2002 and with whom she had two children.


Omar and Elmi reportedly remained together until 2011 — while they both attended North Dakota State University — but while they may have split in 2011, they were not officially divorced until 2017. Meanwhile, Omar and Hirsi reportedly reconciled in 2012, had a third child together, and were officially married in 2018, only to legally divorce in 2019.

Raising eyebrows amid all of this is evidence suggesting that Omar and Hirsi and Elmi all lived together at the same address during the years spanning 2009 and 2011. Matters have been further complicated by Omar’s filing of joint tax returns with Hirsi in 2014 and in 2015 — even though she was still officially married to Elmi at that time.


Accountability imminent?
If even half of what has been alleged against Omar is verified as true, and federal investigators are looking closely at her, the congresswoman could be facing a world of trouble. But for her part, Omar denied it all and dismissed such claims as baseless conspiracy theories.

For now, we will simply have to be patient and await further evidence of federal action to see if Omar will indeed be called to account for her allegedly criminal behavior.

In the past, reports that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) had married her own brother for immigration purposes had been confined to a handful of Internet websites and Twitter/Facebook gossip. Unfortunately for Omar, that time has ended.

The New York Post just confirmed the news — the FBI is investigating Omar. “Two FBI agents held an hours-long meeting in Minnesota in mid-October with a concerned party who handed over a trove of documents regarding Omar’s 2009 marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi,” The Post reported.

The FBI agents discussed documents with someone who had reported the incident. According to The Post, the agents did not commit to opening a formal investigation. Instead, this appears to be a “review,” according to the language used by The Post.

Marriage fraud is a felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison — and $250,000 in fines. It would no doubt by the end of Omar’s political career, were she to be found guilty of such a crime.

At this point, though, a lot of Americans don’t really believe that justice will ever be served when it comes to powerful Democrats, though Attorney General William Barr has changed perceptions on that somewhat...
Omar denies the charges, but refuses to turn over any documents to the media. It’s possible that she’s just trying to keep from acknowledging the story at all, lest it become a problem for her. But it’s also possible that she’s hiding something.

Earlier this month, The Blaze reported that the inquiry is wider than The Post reported, including “eight instances of perjury, immigration fraud, marriage fraud, up to eight years of state and federal tax fraud, two years of federal student loan fraud, and even bigamy.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will decide whether Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib will be allowed to enter the Jewish State for an upcoming tour of the West Bank; potentially blocking the lawmakers for their calls to boycott the country.

“Democratic U.S. Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib are planning a visit to Israel and the West Bank in the coming weeks, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will have to decide whether they would be let in to the country, over the support they have voiced for the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement,” reports Haaretz.

“Israeli law allows authorities to deny entry into the country by individuals who support boycotting the country. However, the Foreign Ministry has the authority to recommend to the Strategic Affairs Ministry and the Interior Ministry issuing waivers for political or diplomatic figures, if it deems denying them entry would harm Israel’s foreign relations,” adds the website.

Ultimately, the decision will be made by the Prime Minister.

Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib introduced new legislation this week defending a boycott of Israel; directly comparing the world’s only Jewish State to Nazi Germany during World War 2.

“U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar proposed a resolution this week supporting the right to boycott Israel, likening the boycott of the Jewish state to boycotts of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union,” reports Fox News.

“Omar’s resolution seeks to push back against U.S. laws banning the boycott of Israel and affirms the right of Americans to organize boycotts of foreign countries if they so wish,” adds Fox.

“We are introducing a resolution … to really speak about the American values that support and believe in our ability to exercise our First Amendment rights in regard to boycotting… And it is an opportunity for us to explain why it is we support a nonviolent movement, which is the BDS movement,” said Omar.

The BDS Movement -or Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions- is a pro-Palestinian boycott of Israeli companies and products.

“Americans of conscience have a proud history of participating in boycotts to advocate for human rights abroad including … boycotting Nazi Germany from March 1933 to October 1941 in response to the dehumanization of the Jewish people in the lead-up to the Holocaust,” Omar said in the resolution introduced Tuesday.

Congressman Lee Zeldin slammed the resolution, saying “Israel is our best ally in the Mid East; a beacon of hope, freedom & liberty, surrounded by existential threats. Shame on Rep @Ilhan Omar for bringing her hateful twist on that reality to House Foreign today, propping up the BDS movement & blaming Israel for all of its challenges.”

When asked about whether someone was looking into the allegations that Ilhan Omar committed tax fraud and married her brother, Trump responded saying he doesn't know a lot about it, but there is a lot of talk about the fact that she married her brother.
