Steve, enlightening as always. Thank you for your input!
Lyn, I agree, it is great to do alternatives, and I have done an alternative event of some kind every year since i was about 12 or 13 I think. Our best one was 'It's Life Jim' by the Shaftesbury Society. Can't remember which year that was done, but it was a fantastic night - a lock-in from the days that those were fashionable...lol. Each year when I was living at home my parents had tracts and christian bookmarks as a treat for any who came to our door. Since I left home I have not lived in an area where people come door-knocking, but should I ever have that I shall be similarly prepared.
This year we are having a Teddy Bear Picnic on the last Saturday of the half term for E and all her friends before they go back to school. The response has been fantastic, esp from those who are really into the halloween thing. I pray that God will honour this time together and although it will not be overtly evangelistic; it is more about making time for the parents of all our children to make friends, I do pray that God is recognised and honoured. I shall be carrying themed tracts with me in case people ask questions about why I don't do the whole halloween thing. It is an incredible opportunity to share by a living example the grace of the Lord.
As an aside, E is 'fascinated' by the nasty costumes she sees in the shops, but detests it at the same time. She loves a good party and a chance to dress up, but cant determine why on earth someone would want to dress up in those nasty masks etc. She even turns the telly off (or over) if her childrens programmes have similar content.
Peace

I have never wanted to get involved in halloween even as a child.
I used to run a kids club which was Christian based and on halloween we held a 'Praise Jesus night' where we had games, quizzes, prizes and food, and must admit the kids loved it.
Now I'm showing my age, as some of those kids are parents themselves and I heard from some that say they carry on having
'Praise Jesus nights' instead of halloween.
I know which I'd rather choose and know which Jesus would rather too.

Halloween
Is Halloween something we should get involved in?
If yes, what should our role be?
If no, should we offer alternatives of some kind?
God bless
