UN Demonizes Israel in 7 Reports, Ignores Major Human Rights Abusers
Not a single report is expected to address the alleged internment of some one million Uyghur and Turkic Muslims in isolated Chinese camps, despite the pleas of multiple human-rights organizations.
By: JNS.org
Of a list of 79 reports to be dealt with at the upcoming 40th U.N. Human Rights Council meeting, seven will be dedicated to denouncing the State of Israel.

Not a single report is expected to address the alleged internment of some 1 million Uyghur and Turkic Muslims in isolated Chinese camps, despite the pleas of multiple human-rights organizations.

Additional reports will examine Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka and Tunisia, with two reports each for Iran and Syria, both of which are major human rights abusers.

A list of resolutions up for vote is expected to be published soon, with U.N. Watch executive director Hillel Neuer telling The Jerusalem Post that five resolutions against Israel are anticipated.

The UNHRC has yet to publish a list of the resolutions its 47 member states plan to vote on, including those on Israel. Most of its resolutions are based on reports.

U.N. Watch executive director Hillel Neuer estimates that there would likely be about five resolutions against Israel.

Among the reports are one about the blacklisting of businesses who do business with Jews residing in Judea, Samaria, eastern Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, and another about weekly riots conducted by Hamas-led Gaza Arabs on Israel’s border under the auspices of the “March of Return.”

Israel said to find new Iranian precision missile factory in northwest Syria
Tehran reportedly rebuild facility previously bombed by IAF in different location, bypassing international sanctions with help from Syrian government and terror group Hezbollah

Israel has discovered new ambitious precision missile factory in being constructed by Iran in Syria together with the Syrian government and Lebanese terror group Hezbollah after Israel bombed and destroyed a previous one, an Israeli TV network reported Thursday evening.

The report on Channel 12 said the new factory was recently built near the northwestern city of Safita in hopes that Israel wouldn’t discover it in the location, which is far from previous Iranian sites struck by Israel elsewhere in Syria. The factory is intended to focus on producing precision missiles, dramatically upgrading the threat to Israel from the vast arsenal of rockets and missiles deployed against it in southern Lebanon by Iran’s proxy, Hezbollah.

To build it, Channel 12 reported, Iran had to bypass international sanctions on its missile program via a series of straw companies established by Syria’s Scientific Studies and Research Center (SSRC), a government agency that manufactures weaponry and whose facilities have repeatedly been targeted by Israel in the past.

Those companies — established specifically for that purpose — ordered missile parts from Italy, China and other countries in eastern Asia, the report said. The companies are named the Organization of Technological Industries (OTI) and ANAS Group, according to the report.

Israel has nevertheless discovered, tracked and uncovered the facility, the network said, as part of its effort to thwart Iran’s military entrenchment in Syria.

Israel says it has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on Iranian-linked targets as part of a campaign to prevent Tehran from establishing a military presence in Syria.

The previous Israeli airstrike on a precision missile factory in Syria occurred in September, when Syrian air defenses shot down a Russian military aircraft, killing all 15 servicemen aboard.

Russia, which is allied with Damascus, blamed the Israeli military for the incident, a charge rejected by Jerusalem, and later transferred advanced air defense systems to Syria in a move condemned by Israel.

Meanwhile, an Iranian news outlet said Thursday that the elite Revolutionary Guard has inaugurated a surface-to-surface ballistic missile it claims has a 1,000-kilometer (620-mile) range.

This February 6, 2019, satellite image provided by DigitalGlobe shows an empty launch pad and a burn mark on it at the Imam Khomeini Space Center in Iran’s Semnan province. (DigitalGlobe, a Maxar company via AP)
The report by the semi-official Fars news agency, close to the Guard, said a ceremony marking the inauguration was held in an underground missile factory described as an “underground city.”

The ceremony coincided with the 40th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The report said the missile, dubbed Dezful, is a version of the Zolfaghar missile that has a 700-kilometer (430-mile) range and a 450-kilogram (992-pound) warhead.
Iran has missile capability of up to 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles), far enough to reach archenemy Israel and US military bases in the region.

Occasionally, Iran announces military achievements that cannot be independently verified.

In 2014, Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, discussing his worldview, made some remarkable predictions. His words remain relevant today more than ever.

At the age of 67, Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, founder of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ), passed away suddenly on Wednesday from heart failure.

In his role as president of the IFCJ, Eckstein raised hundreds of millions of dollars to aid Jewish communities in Israel and across the world. He devoted special attention to Holocaust survivors, impoverished seniors, orphans, IDF soldiers, and new immigrants to Israel.

The IFCJ remains instrumental in providing food packages for the poor during holiday times in addition to funding bomb shelters near the Gaza and Lebanon borders and providing critical medical equipment to Israeli hospitals.

“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expresses deep sorrow over the passing of Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, who worked tirelessly to benefit the citizens of Israel and to strengthen the bond between Christian communities and the State of Israel. May his memory be a blessing,” the prime minister’s spokesman stated.

In this video, Eckstein discusses his worldview, offering personal insight regarding current events and how we must act accordingly. Although he spoke these words in 2014, they are remarkably relevant today.

Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria are growing at a rate close to 60 percent higher than Israel’s overall population growth.
https://unitedwithisrael.org/jewish-population-of-judea-and-samaria-surged-in-2018/?utm_source=pushengage&utm_medium=pushnotification&utm_campaign=pushengage
By Associated Press and United with Israel Staff

On Tuesday, a group dedicated to strengthening Jewish life in Judea and Samaria said the number of people living in Israeli communities in those areas surged at a much faster rate than the overall Israeli population last year and predicted even more rapid growth thanks to the policies of the Trump administration.

Baruch Gordon, director of an organization that provides precise Jewish population statistics for Judea and Samaria based on data from Israel’s Ministry of the Interior, said the White House has created a much friendlier environment for the Jewish communities, clearing the way for a surge in construction in the coming years.

“It’s just simply opened up. There’s no longer this cloud looming over it,” Gordon said.

The report is sponsored by Bet El Institutions, a prominent organization that has ties to some of President Donald Trump’s closest Mideast advisers, including U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, who is a former president of the organization.

Trump’s chief Mideast adviser, son-in-law Jared Kushner, has donated to the group, and even Trump once sent a donation.

The latest data shows the population in Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria grew to 449,508 as of Jan. 1, up 3.3 percent from 435,159 people a year earlier.

In comparison, Israel’s overall population grew 1.9 percent last year to 8.907 million people, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics.

The Interior Ministry was not immediately able to confirm the scores of figures, but confirmed it had been in touch with Gordon’s group and said the numbers appeared authentic.

The data showed robust growth in Jewish communities across the board, from large towns located near Israeli population centers to isolated communities deep inside Judea and Samaria.

Gordon cited several reasons for the rapid growth. An estimated two-thirds of the population in Judea and Samaria are religious Jews, who tend to have larger families. In addition, he said more affordable housing prices have lured many young families.

But he also said the Trump administration’s attitude toward Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria is also having an effect.

President Barack Obama, like a string of Republican and Democratic predecessors, opposed Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria as obstacles to peace and put heavy pressure on Israel to halt construction.

Trump, in contrast, has done little to stop the construction. While urging restraint at times, the White House has otherwise remained quiet as Israel has pressed forward with numerous developments. This, in effect, has given Israel a green light to lay the groundwork for a surge in construction that should materialize over the next year or two, Gordon said.

Staunch American allies of Israel have succeeded in passing anti-boycott legislation in over half of all US states, with new laws set to advance in 12 more.

While the battle against the demonization and delegitimization of the Jewish state is fought on many fronts, making it illegal to discriminate against Israel is a powerful tool to stop anti-Israel campaigns in their tracks.

In this video, Jay Ruderman of the Ruderman Family Foundation explains how Jewish organizations across the United States have worked to promote legislation that halts the immoral and anti-Semitic BDS movement.v

A Fatah official called on Arabs in the Gush Etzion area to antagonize the very Israelis who provide good-paying jobs that support Palestinian families.

Arabs in recent years have illegally taken over lands around and within Israeli communities in the eastern part of Gush Etzion, operating at the direction of Arab provocateurs and extreme left-wing organizations.

According to Israeli residents who spoke with TPS, the livelihoods of Arabs who make their livings in Israeli communities are threatened by family members who take over land illegally and carry out provocations in the same communities.

Now, Israeli employers are taking action against these illegal land grabs, posting ads urging Arabs not to cooperate with left-wing provocateurs, or risk losing their employment in Israeli communities. The posters even include the names and pictures of the lead activists.

Sheikh Dawood al-Zair, Fatah National Councilmember who has lead the provocations in the area, called on Arabs in the region to “go to lands adjacent to [Israeli] settlements and continue plowing and planting” illegally.

He explained that these actions “anger the settlers” who have responded by “threatening [local Arabs] with their livelihoods.”

“It is our obligation to defend the land, from a religious and national stance, and the land and its plowing is more important” than finding work in the Israeli communities, he said.

Meanwhile, the IDF recently intervened when Arabs in the area began plowing near the Israeli community of Nokdim.

Local Israelis distributed the poster in Hebrew within their communities and compiled a list of Arab families working in the communities who are also involved in anti-Israeli actions. Employers were left to make their own decisions.

Netanyahu’s future in balance?

Fierce Likud vote kicks off primary season, with Netanyahu’s future in balance
Rife with backdoor deals and horse-trading, hard-fought internal race is seen as a bellwether of the prime minister’s power in the ruling party
By RAOUL WOOTLIFF

Opening primary season as part of the run-up to April’s national elections, Likud members were going to the polls Tuesday to elect the ruling party’s slate of Knesset members, in a fierce internal race that could act as a barometer for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s influence among his base.

From 10 a.m. to 10 p.m, some 119,000 eligible voters will have a chance to cast their ballots in a complicated ranking system for national and district candidates in 113 polling stations across the country.

One hundred and forty-two candidates are competing for the top slots on Likud’s electoral slate, all hoping to score high enough to ensure certain entry to the Knesset. Among incumbent MKs and influential newcomers, there has been intense competition for the highest slots on the ticket, which all but guarantee a position at the cabinet table.

Get The Times of Israel's Daily Edition by email and never miss our top stories FREE SIGN UP
With Netanyahu keeping the top spot as party leader and veteran Likud lawmaker Benny Begin retiring (again) from public service, 28 currently serving MKs and ministers are bidding for the first 18 spots on the electoral list, which are designated for candidates running in the nationwide ballot. They are joined by three heavyweights returning to the party or running for the first time: former interior minister Gideon Sa’ar, former Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat. and Immigration Minister Yoav Gallant (who recently defected from Kulanu).

Party protocol holds that anyone who has served as MK needs to run on the national slate, which fills spots 2-18, 20, 23-25 and anything beyond 35. Party members who vote in the primary election must pick their 12 preferred candidates (from the 73 running on the national list) to fill these spots, and these will then be ranked according to the total number of votes.

The rest of the slate is populated by district candidates, who compete against each other for specific slots representing various regions or groups within the party. In a change introduced in this year’s primary, only members of the Likud Central Committee will able to cast votes for the district nominees, giving the party’s key decision-making body considerable power and influence over the electoral ticket.

The final slate, however, may look somewhat different from the results of Tuesday’s vote, which are expected to trickle in Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, with a number of alterations set to be made based on certain predetermined conditions. The 10th, 20th, 25th and 31st spot, for example, will be filled by women, with the latter two of those reserved for candidates who have not yet been elected to the Knesset. The 21st and, if he requests, the 19th slots can be filled directly by Netanyahu.

Additionally, party members will vote Tuesday on a proposal that would see the prime minister appoint candidates to the 21st, 26th and 36th spots, in a move that could allow him to merge the Likud slate with a smaller party, without getting separate permission from the Central Committee.

Primaries were introduced to Israeli politics in the early 1990s, when several major parties sought to bolster public support by increasing participation in the democratic process. Since then, however, most new parties have forgone internal elections, opting instead for a system in which the party leader or a committee of officials chooses a “perfect” slate, unsullied by the caprices of party members.

The number of people actively taking part in the primaries from each party has also declined. In the first primaries of the Labor party in 1992 there were over 160,000 eligible voters; in 2015 there were only 49,000. Meanwhile, Likud went from some 180,000 eligible voters in 1996 to around 96,000 in 2015. This year may have broken the trend, with an increase in registered voters for the first time in two decades.

Enthusiasm among eligible voters has, however, has been fairly low, with turnout in the 2014 Labor primaries at just below 61 percent and the 2014 Likud poll seeing just 54% of voters cast a ballot.

Backroom deals and ‘assassination’ lists
With candidates far outnumbering the spots on the slate, the ruling party’s primary has become known for behind-the-scenes horse trading. In an arrangement sometimes looked down upon by some Likud members and political observers, prominent party members often instruct their supporters to back other candidates in return for reciprocal endorsements.

Many senior Likud members produce “recommendation lists” of whom to vote for, with activists even handing out pre-filled ballot papers to supporters at ballot stations. As part of the deals to secure a place on these tickets, some party operatives also create “assassination lists” of candidates to be avoided.

According to a Sunday report in the Israel Hayom daily, the prime minister has also drawn up a list of his own recommendations and, via backroom deals, is trying to ensure his preferences place high on the slate. At the same time, Netanyahu is actively working to prevent a number of prominent lawmakers from returning to parliament, the report said.

The reported list of preferences is surprisingly headed by rookie Amir Ohana, the Likud’s first openly gay Knesset member and one of the key MKs who worked on the controversial nation-state law. Following Ohana comes Culture Minister Miri Regev, a prominent acolyte of the prime minister known for her lavish praise of him as well as her attacks on what she describes as a “leftist monopoly over Israel’s cultural institutions.”

Netanyahu’s top five was said to be rounded out by Tourism Minister Yariv Levin, Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz and Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz. These are followed by Science Minister Ofir Akunis, Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely, former and current coalition chairs David Bitan and David Amsalem, and  recent Kulanu defector Immigration Minister Yoav Galant, to close the first 10 spots.

Snagging the final five spots in the prime minister’s list of preferences as reported by Israel Hayom are MK Miki Zohar, Environmental Protection Minister Zeev Elkin, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, Social Equality Minister Gila Gamliel and MK Yoav Kisch. Netanyahu, having been elected Likud chairman, automatically fills the number one spot on the slate.

Blocking a successor
Netanyahu’s decision of whom to advance and whom to potentially block may be fueled by fear that his fellow party members will turn on him in the event of an indictment in the criminal investigations in which he is accused on bribery.

Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit is reportedly set to announce this month plans to indict Netanyahu, pending a hearing; however, it is believed that it may be another year before a final indictment is filed.

If Netanyahu were to be forced to step down, the MKs with most support in the party would be considered possible candidates to replace him, making the battle for the top spots even more intense. Some commentators have even, half jokingly, described the primary as the 2020 leadership race.

The omission of a number of key Likud figures from the Israel Hayom reported list indicates the prime minister’s desire that they be kept as low as possible on the final slate, and thus denied the possibility of being seen as potential successors.

Former minister Gideon Sa’ar speaks at a Likud party conference in the central city of Lod, on December 31, 2017. (Tomer Neuberg/Flash90)
Notably, Netanyahu is trying to block success for Sa’ar, the former interior minister, whom he has accused of plotting to replace him; Knesset speaker Yuli Edelstein; and Communications Minister Ayoub Kara, the report said.

Kara, a prominent member of Israel’s Druze community, had hoped to be able to run again for the 30th place on the list, reserved for a non-Jewish candidate. But thanks to Netanyahu, the spot will for the first time be open only for new contenders only and not past MKs, meaning that Kara will be forced to compete on the national list.

Edelstein placed a surprising third in the 2014 primary and, having served as Knesset speaker since 2013, is popular among Likud members. But his popularity may be seen by Netanyahu as a potential threat. Further drawing the prime minister’s anger, the Knesset speaker was recorded last year harshly criticizing Netanyahu’s attacks on the media and on his political opponents, and warning that the ruling party could suffer a major setback in the next election.

But while Netanyahu has kept his apparent efforts to hinder Edelstein quiet, he has done the opposite with Sa’ar, publicly accusing him of plotting to replace him.

Just a day ago, the prime minister dredged up unproven reports that Sa’ar had hatched a scheme that would see the president sideline Netanyahu after the elections and task Sa’ar with forming a government in his stead.

Sa’ar entered the Knesset as a Likud MK in 2003 and held the posts of education and interior minister before stepping down in 2014. He announced his return to politics in 2017. Though he has said his ultimate goal is to be prime minister, Sa’ar has publicly pledged to back Netanyahu, a vow he repeated ahead of Tuesday’s vote.

The prime minister’s attitude toward potential Likud rivals has over the years led to an exodus from the party of some of his most prominent possible successors. And perhaps due to the fear of creating potential challengers, Netanyahu has forgone his former practice of appointing the honorary positions of deputy prime minister and vice prime minister. He has also kept for himself the positions of foreign minister and, in recent months, defense minister.

David Sharan is seen during a remand hearing at the Rishon Lezion Magistrate’s Court, September 3, 2017. (Flash90)
While Netanyahu has denied having a preference for any of his current MKs, he did give one explicit endorsement for one Knesset hopeful: his former bureau chief who is currently facing possible criminal charges in the high-profile submarine scandal case.

In a message sent to party activists on Sunday, Netanyahu said that in the key district of Tel Aviv, which holds the 29th spot on the list, he was specifically endorsing his former bureau chief David Sharan, despite a police recommendation that Sharan be indicted for bribery in one of Israel’s most sprawling corruption cases.

“I value David Sharan extremely highly and think he is the best candidate in the Tel Aviv district,” Netanyahu said in a message distributed in his name.

Police in November recommended that Sharan, who served in the Prime Minister’s Office between 2014 and 2016, be charged with bribery, fraud, breach of trust, conspiracy, money laundering and violations of campaign financing law in connection with Case 3000, which involves suspected corruption in the purchase of naval vessels from German shipbuilding company ThyssenKrupp. Prosecutors have yet to make their decision on the matter.

The Tel Aviv race has emerged as one of the most intriguing regional races in the internal party ballot, with Sharan facing off against a key loyalist of Sa’ar. Here, and in the entire primary race, the final results could determine the future of not just Likud but also of Netanyahu.

To Keep Terrorists Out, Israel Builds Massive Fence on Gaza Border
Feb 4, 2019
Israel started reinforcing its border fence with the Gaza Strip, erecting a galvanized steel barrier six meters high that will run the length of the territory.

By: Associated Press and United with Israel Staff

Israel’s Defense Ministry issued a statement Sunday saying it had commenced construction of an above-ground barrier that complements a subterranean wall aimed at thwarting Hamas terror tunnels beneath the border.

The fence’s construction comes after months of violent rioting by Palestinians in Gaza along the border. The riots, misleadingly titled “The March of Return” by Hamas, have largely been used as a cover for terror group operatives to launch attacks on Israeli soldiers and attempt to infiltrate the Jewish state to target civilians.

In addition to trying to breach the fence, Palestinian rioters have made widespread use of airborne arson attacks using kites, balloons, and even a falcon. The rioters tie incendiary devices to these objects and then fly them into Israeli territory, where they have started fires destroying thousands of acres of Israeli fields and nature preserves.

WATCH: BDS Activists or Terrorists? You Decide…
 https://unitedwithisrael.org/report-reveals-over-100-links-between-terrorists-and-bds-groups/?utm_source=pushengage&utm_medium=pushnotification&utm_campaign=pushengage
Feb 3, 2019
The Israeli government revealed over 100 links between Islamic terror organizations and anti-Israel NGOs that promote BDS.
By United with Israel Staff

The Ministry of Strategic Affairs and Public Diplomacy (MSA) released its “Terrorists in Suits” report on Sunday, revealing over 100 links shared between the internationally-designated terrorist organizations Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) with at least 13 anti-Israel BDS promoting NGOs.

The ministry reveals how Hamas and the PFLP are utilizing a network of NGOs promoting boycotts against Israel as an additional tactic in their ultimate goal of dismantling the State of Israel. These organizations have successfully placed over 30 of their members, 20 of which have served time, including for murder, in senior positions within BDS-promoting NGOs.

The report documents how boycott organizations and terrorist designated organizations raise finances together, share the same personnel, and showcases that contrary to popular belief, these officials have not abandoned their support for terrorism, but instead, continue to maintain organizational, financial, and active ties with terrorist groups.

The Israel-boycott organizations in question were also shown to have received millions of euros in funding from European countries and philanthropic foundations, while gaining access to additional funds through financial, crowdfunding and banking systems.

Examples of terrorists working in support of organizations that promote the boycotting of Israel include Leila Khaled and Mustafa Awad.

Another instance includes the BDS National Committee (BNC), the Ramallah-based leadership of the global Boycott movement toward Israel, consists of 28 Palestinian boycott groups. The lead member of this coalition is the Palestinian National and Islamic Forces (PNIF), which includes five internationally-designated terrorist organizations including Hamas, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The American fundraising platform Donorbox recently suspended the BNC’s account after finding the group did indeed maintain ties to terrorist groups.

Over the past year, and following MSA activities to expose NGO terror ties, several European countries have announced the reexamination and decrease in funding granted to organizations which promote boycotts against the State of Israel.

The report also showed how members of terrorist organizations operate under the guise of “boycott activists” to gain access, and meet with, senior Western government officials and exert pressure to release convicted terrorists held in Israeli prisons.

The new report aims to decidedly remove the “mask” of NGOs promoting BDS by exposing in an in-depth study the true nature of this scheme, the ministry said.

“Terrorist groups and the anti-Israel boycott campaign have united in their goal of wiping Israel off the map,” Erdan said. “Terrorist groups view boycotts as a complementary tactic to terror attacks. Following the exposure of over 100 links between terrorist groups and leading BDS organizations, I urge all governments and financial institutions to investigate the activities of these BDS organizations, and immediately end all funding and support which they provide to them.”

OUTRAGEOUS: 191 Terror Attacks on Israelis in 2019 and Media Remains Silent
Recommended by
Why does the media refuse to report on the vicious attacks that Israelis face on a daily basis from Palestinian terrorists?

In just one month, Israelis have been confronted with close to 200 terror attacks from Palestinian assailants, seeking to maim and murder innocent civilians whose only “crime” is being Jewish and living in the Holy Land.

The victims of these attacks are more than mere statistics–they are fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters. When Palestinian terrorists strike, they rob families of loved ones and leave survivors in a near-perpetual state of trauma.

The Story of David and Goliath Is Not Just A Story – It REALLY Happened!
By Phil Schneider -  January 31, 2019 2265 0
https://israelunwired.com/the-story-of-david-and-goliath-is-not-just-a-story-it-really-happened/
Archaeology is not just the science of the covered past. It is the fuel of the future. The story of David and Goliath is not just a relic of the past. It inspires us today. In general, people look at history as something that may or may not connect to our lives today. This is completely wrong when it comes to Israeli finds.
The Bible is literally covered up by the ground that we walk on today. So, anytime that a new discovery is made, it is as if another chapter in the Bible comes to life.
Archaeology: David's Israel made room for God
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mM9-HKyGurw&ab_channel=ActsNewsNetwork
The Bible and Archaeology
“I can’t ignore the biblical text and I cannot ignore archaeology,” says Professor Yosef Garfinkle. Proof of life and events just as scripture describes them are right here in the archaeological discoveries. This clip really gives you food for thought.
David, the young shepherd who battled the giant Goliath – the leader of the Philistines, fought in the Elah valley. Today, tens of thousands of Jews live right outside the area and are rebuilding the Holy Land right next to the areas being dug up by archaeologists.

Life in Israel is not merely inspired by the Bible. It is the source of our very life here. It is also the best proof of the rights of the Jewish people to the Promised Land. From the roads that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob walked, to the palace of Solomon. to the place where David and Goliath battled, and even to the areas where God brought the walls of Jericho down – today, the Bible is an open book that anyone who visits can experience and walk in.

http://www.aish.com/jw/id/Israel-Sends-Huge-Rescue-Team-after-Brazil-Dam-Collapse.html?s=mm
The 132-strong Israeli team containing both regular and reserve soldiers includes Search and Rescue units, the Navy’s Underwater Missions Unit, engineering experts, doctors, and firefighters as well as several dogs and their handlers from the IDF’s elite canine unit, ‘Oketz.’
An entire plane load of supplies, including rescue vehicles, equipment and medical supplies made the 14 hour flight with soldiers given vaccinations and briefed at the airport on what to expect.

Technology helps locate cellular signals
After being met at the airport by their military counterparts in Brazil, the team got to work.

“We immediately met with the fire department, the company which operates the dam and local rescue teams,” Cohen said. “We are working in teams in the worst affected places, according to where the Brazilians need us most.” Each team is equipped with drones, sonar equipment and crucially, advanced technology able to detect the location of cell phones.

Being briefed at Ben Gurion airport

“When we reach a new rescue site, we use an advanced technology which can detect cellular signals,” Cohen explained. “If we get a positive reaction, the dogs go in and then we start digging.” She added “In flooded areas, divers from the navy lead the search with sonar equipment.”

On Monday the Israeli teams retrieved 15 bodies and several more on Monday, sadly none of them alive. “We are hoping to find more, and we are doing everything we can,” Major Cohen said. The death toll rose to 65 and is expected to rise.

“Of course it’s difficult - it’s a terrible tragedy and emotionally hard. We meet together at the end of each day and there are mental health support staff here if we need.”

Warm Welcome
Major Cohen has served for 13 years in the Home Front. In Brazil she is tasked with maintaining close ties with civilians and local emergency services who she says are deeply appreciative.

“Yesterday I was with some people from one of the villages affected and I heard the same message from everyone I met, they are deeply grateful and have given as a very warm welcome.” She added, “I tell them, we are here for them and will do whatever we can to help.”

Israeli soldiers and divers search for survivorsThe mission has also prompted an outpouring of thanks on social media. One Brazilian from Sao Paulo wrote, “Thank you Israel! We will never forget what you are doing for us.” Another posted, “You have no idea how much it means to us. I hope this is the beginning of a great friendship between our peoples.”

Although the team are a little far away from the nearest Jewish community, they were nevertheless delivered a hot meal on their arrival from Chabad in Brazil.

Proud to be representing Israel
“There is an overwhelming feeling of pride among the Israeli delegation here,” Major Cohen said. “It is a terrible tragedy for these villages but I cannot emphasize enough how honored and privileged we feel to be representing Israel helping another nation in need.” She continued to stress the close connection with the Brazilian teams they are working alongside. “We are so proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Brazilian people and let them know that we are here for everything that they need. We know that back home the Israeli people feel the same.”

This is not the first time Israel has dispatched its humanitarian search and rescue teams abroad to assist in natural disasters. Among many mission, in 2010, Israel sent an emergency response team to the earthquake in Haiti and building field hospitals to treat the injured. In 2015, a team of search and rescue and medical staff were sent to Nepal following the powerful earthquake which struck the country and over 70 soldiers were sent to Mexico to help rescue bodies from collapsed buildings after the powerful September 2017 earthquake.

We still uphold it as a democracy in the Middle East I almost chuckle because I know that if we see that any other society we would criticize it, call it out,” said Omar. “We do that to Iran, we do that to any other place that sort of upholds its religion. And I see that now happening with Saudi Arabia and so I am aggravated, truly, in those contradictions.”

Israeli police have launched an investigation into the sacking of a Jerusalem synagogue overnight Monday in which vandals threw Torah scrolls and other Jewish artefacts on the floor and caused damage to the temple. The act took place overnight in a building that was consecrated in the memory of Jonathan Sandler, a French rabbi and teacher that was killed in a terrorist shooting in the southern French city of Toulouse in 2012.
Kiryat Yovel, a southwestern suburb of the city, was built in the early 1950s for Jewish immigrants from Arab countries, with concerns for rapid housing eschewing strict city laws requiring every building to be built in Jerusalem stone. The population changed over the years, and it has lately welcomed more and more French immigrants - Sandler had lived in Kiryat Yovel to study Torah.Demographic change in Jerusalem as a whole has also brought more and more ultra-Orthodox Jews to the neighborhood, creating tensions with the overwhelmingly secular population. The name Kiryat Yovel is often invoked as an example for the tensions, which are also taking place in other locations in the city and the rest of Israel.

Reactions from the Israeli political and religious establishment poured in on Tuesday, with many harking back to past examples of Jewish persecution.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decried the vandalism at the synagogue in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Kiryat Yovel on Tuesday saying was "shocked" by the attack and hoped the vandals would be swiftly brought to justice.President Reuven Rivlin said images of the destruction at the temple were "painful."Chairman of the Hayemin Hehadash party and education minister Naftali Bennett called it "a terrible crime against all that is sacred to the Jewish people.""We must go on soul-searching exercise on how we got to such a situation in the holy city of Jerusalem," Chief Rabbi David Lau said. All called upon the Israeli police to bring the criminals to justice."Authorities must turn every stone, find the criminals, and prosecute them to the full extent of the law," Sephardi Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef said, while Parliament speaker Yuli Edelstein, of the Likud party, made a parallel with another incident in a synagogue earlier last week. The event was "reminiscent of dark days in the history of the Jewish people," the speaker said.A popular anglophone synagogue was broken into and vandalized last Saturday in the coastal city of Netanya.Prayer books were burned, the walls graffitied with Satanic inscriptions, in what has become a frequent occurance in the city.

Four-time Polish Olympic swimmer Bart Kizierowski rejected an offer to coach Malaysia’s national swimming team, saying he would not train the Malaysians after they refused to admit Israeli athletes into the country.

By: JNS.org
After the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) stripped Malaysia over the weekend of its right to host the 2019 World Para Swimming Championships due to the country’s announcement that it would not allow Israelis to compete, the Asian nation got more bad news at the beginning of this week.

“I was offered a very attractive coaching position from the Malaysian Swimming Federation,” four-time Polish Olympic swimmer Bart Kizierowski wrote on Twitter. “Among other personal reasons, I declined that function due to recent statements made by Malaysian politicians regarding refusal of visa for athletes that are supposed to compete at the world championships organized by that country. There is no place for that in sport.”

“Politics and sport are never a good mix,” said IPC President Andrew Parsons after the body governing board decided to disqualify Malaysia from hosting the 2019 World Para Swimming Championships. “We are disappointed that Israeli athletes would not have been allowed to compete in Malaysia.”
“All World Championships must be open to all eligible athletes and nations to compete safely and free from discrimination,” Parsons said. “When a host country excludes athletes from a particular nation, for political reasons, then we have absolutely no alternative but to look for a new championships host.”

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad responded Monday that “Israel is a criminal state and deserves to be condemned.”

“We maintain we have a right to bar Israelis from our country. When the world condemns us for this, we have a right to say that the world is being hypocritical,” he said.

A Palestinian woman was shot dead as she tried to stab an Israeli security officer at a checkpoint outside Jerusalem on Wednesday, police said.
According to police, the assailant attacked one of the guards at the A’Zaim crossing east of the capital, in the central West Bank.

“A rapid response by additional security forces brought about her neutralization with no injuries to the security personnel,” police said in a statement.

The Palestinian woman, who has yet to be identified, was fatally wounded and later pronounced dead, the West Bank’s Palestinian health ministry said.
The crossing was temporarily closed following the attack.
Jerusalem Police Commissioner, Yoram Halevi, visited the site and spoke with the security officers on the scene, police said.

“Police are investigating where the female suspect came from, and heightened security is continuing in the area,” police said.

Israeli security officials have said that many attacks by Palestinians, especially women, are driven by personal and domestic issues, more than by ideological considerations.

In some cases, Israeli officials have said Palestinians appeared to have carried out attacks or attempted to do so in order to be shot dead by Israeli security forces, as a form of “suicide by cop.”

Recent weeks have seen a number of attacks by Palestinians against Israeli security forces in the West Bank.

Last Monday evening, a Palestinian man attempted to carry out a stabbing attack against Israeli troops near the northern West Bank city of Nablus, but as shot dead, the Israel Defense Forces said.

On January 11, a Palestinian man also tried to stab Israeli troops in the West Bank city of Hebron, but he was shot and critically injured by the soldiers first, the army said.

December saw a significant increase in West Bank terror attacks, leading to the death of two IDF soldiers and a baby born prematurely after his mother was seriously wounded. At least 10 other civilians and soldiers were injured in the string of attacks.

During the predawn hours of Friday morning, January 18, 2019, in an Israel Navy control facility, a vessel was seen being dragged with the current towards Gaza.

After a preliminary investigation, it was discovered that a French citizen had been in the sea for several weeks due to a ship failure during a storm. The IDF rescued the civilian and evacuated him for medical assistance.

“After the ship was identified, the fighters acted swiftly to rescue and bring the citizen to safety while providing first aid on board our ship. We will continue to carry out our mission throughout the year and in all weather conditions,” the Navy said in a statement.

Israel’s Security ‘Top Priority,’ Russian Foreign Ministry Says
https://unitedwithisrael.org/israels-security-top-priority-russian-foreign-ministry-says/?utm_source=pushengage&utm_medium=pushnotification&utm_campaign=pushengage
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov denied that Moscow is allied with Iran in Syria, claiming the countries do not see “eye to eye.”

By: Eli Leon, Daniel Siryoti and Yoni Hersch, Israel Hayom via JNS.org

Russia’s deputy foreign minister denied Moscow had formed an alliance with Iran in Syria and said the Kremlin was deeply committed to Israel’s security in an interview with CNN, Friday.

“We in no way underestimate the importance of measures that would ensure very strong security of the state of Israel. The Israelis know this, the U.S. knows this, everyone else, including the Iranians, the Turks, the government in Damascus. This is one of the top priorities of Russia,” Sergei Ryabkov told CNN.

Asked whether Russia and Iran were allies “on the ground” in Syria, Ryabkov said, “I wouldn’t use this type of word to describe where we are with Iran. We are working together with them … but we do not see at any given moment completely eye to eye on what happens.”

He noted that Moscow “acted last year to persuade Tehran to kind of withdraw from the border with Israel with some heavy equipment so that this area would be more protected and there would be no attempts on the part of highly controlled militias to attack Israel from that front.”

According to Ryabkov, Russia had been prepared “to go even further” at the time, “although it’s always very difficult to negotiate with the Iranians. But it didn’t work because of [the] U.S. and Europeans’ inability to guarantee even as, you know, some extension of reimposition of U.S. extraterritorial sanctions on Iran.”

Meanwhile, Foreign Policy magazine reported that the Pentagon was weighing a plan that would see the U.S. maintain a military presence in a base in southeastern Syria in an attempt to thwart the establishment of a direct supply route from Iran to Syria through Iraq.

Is Israel’s Inevitable War with Iran Already Underway?
Recommended by
It would be a mistake to dismiss nuclear threats coming out of Tehran as mere saber-rattling, given its stated intention and increasingly overt attempts to annihilate Israel, even at its own potential peril.

By: Ruthie Bloom, JNS.org

Israelis enjoying themselves on the slopes of the Mount Hermon ski resort in the Golan Heights were startled on Sunday afternoon to witness an Iranian missile heading their way. Had it not been intercepted by the Iron Dome missile-defense system, many innocent vacationers, as well as residents in the area, would have been killed.

The surface-to-surface projectile, fired by the Revolutionary Guards Corps Quds Force in Syria, did not cause the skiers to pack up their gear and run for shelter and hot chocolate, however. After filming the scene on phones and helmet cams, they picked up where they left off. For most Israelis, the rain of enemy rockets is not nearly as novel as mounds of fresh snow.

Disappointment was high, then, when the Israel Defense Forces announced that the popular site, adjacent to the Syrian and Lebanese borders, would be closed on Monday. The IDF was already planning the retaliatory strikes that it carried out late Sunday night against Iranian bases and soldiers stationed near Damascus—a mere 30 miles from Mount Hermon.

On Tuesday morning, the IDF reopened the ski resort to the public, just as a joint U.S.-Israel test of the advanced Arrow 3 missile defense system—designed to intercept long-range ballistic missiles—was executed successfully off the Mediterranean coast.

The temporary quiet on the frosty northern border was interrupted by a sharp flare-up in the literally and figuratively blazing south. Following yet another violent Palestinian protest at the Gaza border–during which an Israeli officer was shot, and two terrorists were apprehended crossing the fence into Israel—Israeli Air Force fighter jets bombed a Hamas training camp.

Business as Usual at the UN
Across the ocean in New York, the U.N. Security Council was conducting business as usual, holding a “special session on the Middle East” for the purpose of castigating Israel. Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon tried to remind participants that the real danger to the region lies elsewhere. And that the Jewish state is bearing the brunt.

“The Iranian regime’s obsession with Israel is not just well-known,” said Danon. “It is expensive. Seven billion dollars annually are directed toward the never-ending attempts to destroy Israel. Follow the bloody trail of money starting in Tehran, and you will arrive at the terror tunnels in Lebanon and Gaza and the weapons warehouses in Syria. It is now trying to infiltrate Judea and Samaria.”

Danon continued: “With the help of Saleh Al-Arouri, Hamas’s deputy political chief, and Saeed Izadi, the head of the Palestinian branch of the Iranian Quds Force, Iran is trying to turn Judea and Samaria into a fourth military front against Israel. The world’s silence allows Iran to continue with its operations and aggression to undermine stability in the Middle East.”

Meanwhile, the Iranian regime—weakened by restored U.S. sanctions and the massive unrest of its subjugated populace—is boasting about its military prowess. This is par for the course in Tehran, particularly as the ruling mullahs are marking the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, which ousted Shah Reza Pahlavi and ushered in Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s reign of terror.

In an interview with Iranian state TV on Tuesday, Ali Akbar Salehi, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, went as far as to flaunt the regime’s nuclear achievements, thanks in large measure to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action—the nuclear deal signed with world powers in 2015—which, he said, “marinated” Iran’s right to enrich uranium.

The only drawback he mentioned was the fact that “for Europeans, a centrifuge takes eight years from designing to become operational, while the process takes us 10 years.”

Salehi then announced that he would be traveling at the end of the month to Ardakan “to oversee the transport of 30 tons of yellowcake produced … there to [the Uranium Conversion Facility at] Isfahan, [which] means that the Ardakan site has become operational.”

Mere Saber-Rattling?
It would be a grave mistake to dismiss Salehi’s words as mere saber-rattling, given the Iranian regime’s stated intention and increasingly overt attempts to annihilate Israel, even at its own potential peril. Rather than looking the other way, at best—or, worse, condemning Israel at international forums—the world should be thanking the Jewish state for doing its dirty work. The inevitable war against Iran should have been fought by America decades ago. Today, it is up to the IDF.

When the snow melts on Mount Hermon, we Israelis will be back in shorts and sandals, heading for the polls this spring to elect the next Knesset. The only question at this point is whether we will be doing so in bomb shelters.

Israel Slams ‘The Guardian’ Over ‘Killing With Impunity’ Allegation

UK anti-Semitism
A British newspaper is taking heat for playing fast and loose with the facts when it comes to Palestinian terror and Israel’s response.

By Algemeiner Staff

An Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesperson slammed the British newspaper The Guardian on Wednesday over an editorial that accused the Jewish state of “killing with impunity” and “lying without consequence.”

In a tweet, Emmanuel Nahshon accused The Guardian — long known for its hostility toward Israel — of engaging in “typical cheap and false moralizing, deliberately ignoring the realities of Hamas terror from Gaza and Palestinian refusal to return to negotiations.”

“One can only assume that left wing antisemites in the UK will be very happy with this editorial,” he added. “Nasty hypocrisy.”

Palestinian Leaders Demand Boycotts Publicly, Sneak Israeli Products in Private
Jan 23, 2019
Recommended by
Palestinian leaders regularly urge their people to boycott Israeli products, causing a major outrage when they slipped up and released a picture of themselves surreptitiously enjoying delicious Israeli-made refreshments at a meeting.

By: United with Israel Staff, with files from Palestinian Media Watch

The Oxford American Dictionary defines “hypocrisy” as “the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one’s own behavior does not conform.”

That definition perfectly encapsulates the Palestinian Authority’s campaign to force ordinary Palestinians to forego Israeli products as a sign of “resistance” to “normalization” with Israel.

But how committed is the Palestinian Authority itself to the boycott?

If photos from a PA meeting this week are any indication, the PA doesn’t believe it must play by its own boycott rules. To that end, a photo surfaced on Facebook of PA employees at the meeting enjoying Israeli refreshments, such as Tapuzina orange juice.

The photo apparently caused such an outrage that the PA Ministry of Employment, which posted the image, removed it immediately.

Anger over the PA’s hypocrisy is understandable in light of the efforts undertaken to promote boycotts of Israeli products, from programs in schools to websites and segments on PA television.

The PA’s hypocrisy should come as no surprise, however, in light of the conduct of PA President Mahmoud Abbas.

When it comes to his failing health, Abbas is certainly not in favor of boycotting anything Israeli, least of all the Israeli doctor who reportedly helped saved the cigarette-smoking 83-year-old’s life last May, according to recent reports.

Perhaps the PA should change its slogan to, “Do as we say, not as we do.”

A top Abbas advisor claims “there is suspicious and dangerous coordination” between Israel and Hamas, accusing the Jewish state of collaborating with the terrorist group in an improbable scheme to “assassinate” the Palestinian leader.

By United with Israel Staff, with files from Palestinian Media Watch

Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on religious affairs, Mahmoud Al-Habbash, accused Israel and the Hamas terror group of planning “an attack against Abbas” in the official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida according to a report by Palestinian Media Watch (PMW).

“[B]oth Israel and Hamas incite against [Abbas] morning and night, challenge his legitimacy, and want to assassinate him,” continued the piece in Al-Hayat Al-Jadida.

Back in October, Al-Habbash called Hamas “a contemptible tool in the hands of Israel and America,” reported PMW.

Abbas himself appeared to promote the theory that Israel is out to get him, invoking the canard that Israel assassinated former PA leader and arch-terrorist Yasser Arafat

“They can kill me in my home with bullets or with a missile at any given moment. They can also kill me with poison, as they poisoned the late President Yasser Arafat,” Abbas told Al-Hayat Al-Jadida. With regard to Arafat, scientists have debunked this conspiracy theory.

Al-Hayat Al-Jadida columnist Bassem Barhoum also pushed the myth that Israel and Hamas are in cahoots, referring to Hamas terrorists who broke into the Palestine Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) office in Gaza and destroyed equipment as a “Zionist pawn[s].”

Barhoum took the wild fantasies a step further, accusing Hamas of committing suicide attacks on Israeli civilians to “serve[] Zionism” and give “[Israel] an excuse not to carry out the stages of withdrawal from the Palestinian territories.”

Israeli teen charged with terror in stone attack that killed Palestinian woman
Manslaughter accusations against 16-year-old say he was motivated by ideology of ‘racism and hostility toward Arabs everywhere’; other suspects will apparently not face charges

The Central District Attorney’s Office filed an indictment Thursday against the Israeli teen suspected of killing a Palestinian woman three months ago, in the most deadly incident of suspected Jewish terror since the 2015 firebombing of a Palestinian home in Duma.

The 16-year-old from the central West Bank was charged with manslaughter, aggravated stone throwing at a moving vehicle and intentional sabotage of a vehicle. Each of the charges connected to the killing of Aisha Rabi, a 47-year-old Palestinian mother of eight, was qualified as having been carried out “in the context of a terrorist act.”

The suspect could face considerable jail time as a manslaughter conviction alone carries a maximum sentence of 20 years behind bars. However, he avoided murder charges which would have put him at risk for life in prison.

An official with knowledge of the investigation told The Times of Israel that the prosecution would not be pursuing charges against the other four suspects in the case because the “evidentiary basis against them was insufficient.”

In filing the indictment, the State Prosecutor’s Office requested that the suspect be held until the completion of proceedings against him.

According to the charge sheet, the suspect — whose name is barred from publication due to the fact that he is a minor — departed from the Pri Haaretz yeshiva in the northern West Bank Rehelim settlement, where he is a student, accompanied by several other students late on the evening of October 12.

The group arrived at a hilltop between the Rehelim Junction and the Tapuah Junction, overlooking Route 60 — the West Bank’s main north-south artery.  The suspect then grabbed a large stone weighing roughly two kilograms (4.4 pounds) and prepared to hurl it at a Palestinian vehicle, “out of an ideological motive of racism and hostility toward Arabs everywhere,” the indictment states.
At the same time Rabi, her husband and their nine-year-old daughter were traveling from the Rehelim Junction toward the Tapuah Junction on their way home to the village of Biddya.

According to the indictment, at this point the suspect — identifying the Palestinian plates — hurled the large stone at the vehicle, which was traveling at a speed of roughly 100 kilometers per hour (60 mph). It smashed through the windshield of the passenger side and struck the woman in the head. Rabi’s husband managed to maintain control of the vehicle, calm his panicking daughter and speed to a nearby Nablus clinic where his wife was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

In the days following the attack, a strict gag order was placed on the investigation jointly conducted by the Shin Bet security service and the police’s nationalistic crimes unit. Nonetheless, defense officials told Israeli media that they believed young Israeli settlers were responsible for the stone throwing.

On December 30 — nearly two-and-a-half months after Rabi’s death — police carried out the first string of arrests in the case, nabbing three Israeli teenagers suspected of involvement. A week later two more of their peers were detained.

The Shin Bet then partially lifted the gag order on January 7 to announced that the five boys were suspects in Rabi’s killing and revealed that they were all students at Rehelim’s Pri Haaretz religious boarding school.

All five suspects were, for a time, deprived of the right to meet with their attorneys, though they were later granted counsel visits. Israeli law allows authorities to delay an attorney visit for a terrorism suspect by up to 21 days, subject to court appeal.

Israeli investigations into Jewish terrorism — as such cases are often referred to — are highly sensitive. Left-wing activists have accused authorities of dragging their feet in such cases in comparison to investigations into Palestinian attacks, while leaders of the settlement movement and national religious camp have accused the Shin Bet of using torture in their questioning of young Jewish suspects.

As criticism against Israeli investigators increased, the Shin Bet began partially lifting the gag order in order to release details of the investigation that “indicate the extreme anti-Zionist characteristics” of the teenagers it arrested.

One piece of evidence included a video uncovered during the investigation that depicts the burning of an Israeli flag. A second item the Shin Bet said its agents found in the room of a suspect was an Israeli flag with a swastika drawn over the Star of David along with the phrase, “Death to Zionists” daubed at the top.

Nonetheless, the court released four of the five suspects on January 10, in what the minors’ attorneys claimed signaled a crumbling of the investigation against them.

A photo released on January 6, 2019 by the Shin Bet, saying it is a screenshot from a video showing an Israeli flag being burned by Jewish teens suspected of murdering a Palestinian woman in the West Bank. (Shin Bet)
A week later, the prosecution announced that it intended to indict the prime suspect “in the coming days.”

The court at the time acknowledged that the evidence against the minor was “severe” and agreed to once again extend his remand in the meantime.

On Wednesday, Judge Guy Avnon revealed that the evidence was a DNA sample belonging to the suspect that was found on the stone that struck Rabi in the head.

The official who spoke with the Times of Israel noted that investigators had looked into the prime suspect’s claim that he spends considerable time hiking through the area, which was why his DNA was found on the stone that stuck Rabi. The official said investigators found no other stones in the area with the teenager’s DNA and that the strand found on the deadly stone was a perfect match. Moreover, the official said that testimony from the head of the Pri Haaretz yeshiva as well as fellow students refuted the suspect’s claim.

The teenager’s attorney downplayed the findings, saying that if prosecutors had enough on his client, they would have indicted him immediately rather than requesting five remand extensions in order to complete the investigation.

The teen’s father called the indictment an “injustice” and said the family knows “our son is innocent.” He expressed confidence that the boy would be acquitted.

Tech giant Microsoft is set to officially launch a Tel Aviv hub for emerging companies in the red-hot Israeli startup world.
By United with Israel Staff

Next week, Microsoft will stage the grand opening of a new Tel Aviv-based “reactor,” a hub for startups in Israel to host workshops, hold events, and present talks on subjects such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, CTech reported.

The Tel Aviv reactor joins other similar Microsoft spaces in New York, Seattle, and San Francisco, where up-and-comers rub shoulders with movers-and-shakers, angel investors, and tech innovators.

Microsoft’s executive vice president of the cloud and enterprise group Scott Guthrie is slated to arrive in Israel for the launch of the hub, which is situated in one floor of the seven-story WeWork building, which Microsoft operates.

While the hub has been open for several months, the launch event will raise visibility for a space in the heart of Tel Aviv that can host up to 170 people.

The move arrives after Microsoft committed $500 million to its startup program, which serves as an incubator-like support system for a wide variety of new kids on the proverbial startup block.

Syria’s UN envoy threatens retaliatory attack on Ben Gurion Airport

Syria’s envoy to the United Nations warned Tuesday that if the world body did not halt Israeli strikes on his country, Syria would retaliate with an attack on Ben Gurion International Airport outside Tel Aviv.
Speaking at the UN Security Council after a series of IAF airstrikes on Sunday and Monday — most of them launched after an Iranian missile fired from Syria was intercepted over the Israeli Golan Heights on Sunday afternoon — Bashar Jaafari said Israel was only able to act freely in Syria because it had the backing of the US, UK and France in the Security Council.
Syrian state media Sana quoted Jaafari as saying that if the UN Security Council didn’t adopt measures stop Israel, “Syria would practice its legitimate right of self-defense and respond to the Israeli aggression on Damascus International Airport in the same way on Tel Aviv airport.”

“Isn’t it time now for the UN Security Council to stop the Israeli repeated aggressions on the Syrian Arab republic territories?” Jaafari said.

While Israel has repeatedly hit targets inside Syria in recent years to try to stop the transfer of arms to Hezbollah and the entrenchment of Iranian forces, Syria has rarely responded.
It’s unclear if Syria has the ability to strike at Ben Gurion Airport; any attempt to do so would be viewed by Israel as a major escalation.
On Sunday, Israel reportedly conducted a rare daylight missile attack on Iranian targets in Syria. In response, Iran fired a surface-to-surface missile at the northern Golan Heights, which was intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system over the Mount Hermon ski resort, according to the Israel Defense Forces.
Hours later, in the predawn hours of Monday morning, the Israel Air Force launched retaliatory strikes on Iranian targets near Damascus and on the Syrian air defense batteries that fired upon the attacking Israeli fighter jets, the army said.
Satellite images released by an Israeli firm on Tuesday appeared to show extensive damage at Damascus International Airport.
The photographs published by ImageSat indicated storehouses and radar systems at the Syrian airport were destroyed in the strikes.

Twenty-one people were killed in the Israeli raids in Syria early on Monday, 12 of them Iranian fighters, a Britain-based Syrian war monitor said earlier on Tuesday.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights initially reported the death toll from the Israeli strikes to be 11. But on Tuesday, the war monitor said the number had risen to 21, making it one of the deadliest attacks by Israel in Syria.
According to SOHR, 12 of those killed were members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps; six were Syrian military fighters; and the other three were other non-Syrian nationals.

The IDF said Monday that Iranian troops in Syria launched their missile at the Golan in a “premeditated” attack aimed at deterring Israel from conducting airstrikes against the Islamic Republic’s troops and proxies in Syria.

Israeli troops on Monday were put on high alert in the north.

Military spokesperson Jonathan Conricus said the three response sorties destroyed a number of Iranian intelligence sites, training bases and weapons caches connected to the Quds Force, the expeditionary arm of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

According to Conricus, the Iranian retaliatory strike aimed at the northern Golan was “not a spur-of-the-moment” response, but had been planned months in advance, based on intelligence collected by the IDF.

“We understand that the Iranians are trying to change the context and deter us from our policy and our strategy of fighting Iranian troops in Syria,” Conricus said. “They thought they could change the rules of engagement. Our response was a rather clear one, with a message to Iran and Syria that our policies have not changed.”

In July 2018, 22 people, nine of them Iranians, were said to have been killed in an airstrike attributed to Israel on an Iranian-controlled base in northern Syria.

In May 2018, in an air battle sparked by Iran launching dozens of rockets at the Golan, at least 23 fighters were killed in Syria. Eighteen of them were said to be foreigners, though it was not immediately clear how many were Iranians and how many were non-Syrian nationals from elsewhere in the Muslim world fighting in Shiite militias.

He acknowledged that while the military believed it was planned in advance, the trigger for Sunday’s attack was likely the airstrikes reported moments before.

The spokesman said Iran was directly responsible for the launch, and disputed reports that the projectile had been fired by pro-Iranian militias or by the Syrian regime.

Conricus said the location from which the missile was fired was “an area that we have been promised that the Iranians would not be in.”

That assurance appeared to have been made by Russia — Syrian dictator Bashar Assad’s prime ally in the civil war — but Conricus said he “won’t go into who made the promise.”

Israel has reached a number of understandings with Russia about the permitted location of Iranian troops in Syria, mostly about their deployment along the Golan border with Syria.

The IDF spokesperson said the military ultimately holds Syria responsible for the attack and warned that the country would “pay the price” for allowing Iran to establish a permanent military presence in its territory. Iran officially denies having troops in Syria beyond a small number of advisers — a claim that is widely disregarded among Western intelligence officials.

The Israel Defense Forces on Monday said the missile that was intercepted over the Hermon ski resort the day before was launched by Iran in a “premeditated” attack aimed at deterring Israel from conducting airstrikes against the Islamic Republic’s troops and proxies in Syria.

According to the Israeli military, the missile was an Iranian-made medium-range model that was fired from the outskirts of Damascus at approximately three in the afternoon. The attack came shortly after the IDF allegedly conducted a number of rare daylight airstrikes nearby.

In response to the missile attack, which was intercepted before it breached Israeli airspace, the Israeli military launched three waves of airstrikes that targeted first Iranian sites in and around Damascus, and then Syrian air defense batteries, which had fired on the attacking Israeli fighter jets, the IDF said.

Military spokesperson Jonathan Conricus said the three sorties destroyed a number of Iranian intelligence sites, training bases and weapons caches, including one of the Islamic Republic’s largest depots near the Damascus International Airport, which triggered secondary explosions.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor reported that 11 pro-regime fighters were killed in the Israeli raids. Of those, according to Russia, at least four were Syrian military personnel, apparently killed in the strikes on the country’s air defenses.

Our response was a rather clear one, with a message to Iran and Syria that our policies have not changed.”

Israeli defense analysts attributed both Sunday’s alleged daylight airstrike and the large magnitude of the overnight bombings to an attempt by incoming IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi, whose tenure began last week, to demonstrate his willingness to use force against Iran in Syria.

For years, Israel has maintained a policy of actively opposing Iranian military entrenchment in Syria, as well as attempts by the Islamic Republic to supply terrorist groups like Hezbollah with advanced weaponry. As a result, the IDF has conducted hundreds of airstrikes in Syria — generally late at night — in order to prevent violations of its “red lines.”

Initially, Israel refused to acknowledge those raids, but politicians and defense officials have been increasingly vocal about the activity in recent months.

Typically, such Israeli airstrikes pass without a retaliation by Iran, with the exception of a rocket barrage in May 2018 and an attempted drone attack in February 2018. Syria regularly fires anti-aircraft missiles at the attacking Israeli fighter jets, including in February, when it successfully shot down an F-16 aircraft.

BREAKING NOW: President Trump Offers Immigration Compromise to Re-Open Government
posted by Hannity Staff - 5 hours ago
President Trump addressed the American people from the White House Saturday afternoon; detailing his new effort to secure the US-Mexico border and re-open the federal government after weeks of a partial government shutdown.

“President Trump, in a televised White House address Saturday, offered Democrats a compromise package on immigration in an effort to end the nearly monthlong partial government shutdown — although Democrats dismissed the olive branch as a ‘non-starter’ before Trump even spoke,” writes Fox News.

“Trump said that he was prepared to back a three-year extension of protections for 700,000 immigrants who came to the country illegally as children and were shielded from deportation under the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, in exchange for the $5.7 billion he has requested for a wall on the southern border. The deal would also extend protections for 300,000 recipients of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program — which protects immigrants from designated countries with conditions that prevent nationals from returning safely,” adds the author.

Trump offers immigration compromise to end partial shutdown; Dems cool to offer
Adam Shaw By Adam Shaw | Fox News
How much grace will Trump get from his base for DACA if he gets funding for the border wall?
President Trump, in a televised White House address Saturday, offered Democrats a compromise package on immigration in an effort to end the nearly monthlong partial government shutdown -- although Democrats dismissed the olive branch as a "non-starter" before Trump even spoke.

Trump announced that he was prepared to back a three-year extension of protections for 700,000 immigrants who came to the country illegally as children and were shielded from deportation under the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, in exchange for the $5.7 billion he has requested for a barrier on the southern border.

TRUMP ACCUSES PELOSI OF BEING 'CONTROLLED BY THE RADICAL LEFT,' HOURS BEFORE WHITE HOUSE STATEMENT ON SHUTDOWN

"Walls are not immoral," he said, adding that a wall "will save many lives and stop drugs from pouring into our country."

The deal would also extend protections for 300,000 recipients of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program -- which protects immigrants from designated countries with conditions that prevent nationals from returning safely.

"Our immigration system should be a source of pride, not a source of shame," Trump said, urging politicians to "take off their armor" and find solutions.

It would also offer $800 million for drug detection technology to secure ports of entry, 2,750 new border agents and law enforcement professionals, and 75 new immigration judges to reduce the backlog of asylum requests. He said that all his measures have been supported by Democrats before.

He spent much of the address talking about the dangers that an open border presented, describing a "very wide and open gateway for criminals and gang members to enter the United States." However, he also teased the possibility of future, broader immigration reform if his proposals were accepted by Congress.

"If we are successful in this effort, we will have the best chance in a long time at bipartisan immigration reform, and it won’t stop here, it will keep going until we do it all,” he said.

Government sources told Fox News before the announcement that the speech would form the basis for new legislation he hopes to get before the Senate next week. But Trump’s proposal was quickly swatted down by Democrats with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi coming out ahead of the announcement and saying that the proposal indicated a "compilation of several previously rejected initiatives, each of which is unacceptable and in total, do not represent a good faith effort to restore certainty to people’s lives."

"It is unlikely that any one of these provisions alone would pass the House, and taken together, they are a non-starter," she said in a statement. "For one thing, this proposal does not include the permanent solution for the Dreamers and TPS recipients that our country needs and supports."

The partial government shutdown, which has dragged on for almost a month and led to 800,000 federal workers not being paid, is the result of Republicans and Democrats being unable to come to an agreement over Trump’s demand for wall funding. Trump has said he will not sign a bill to open the government unless it includes that funding, while Democrats have refused to consider the $5.7 figure, offering approximately $1.3 billion for general border security.

Trump’s move marks a rare outreach in a week where both sides appear to have hardened in their positions, with Trump canceling a Democratic delegation’s military flight to Afghanistan after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called on him to delay his State of the Union address earlier in the week. On Saturday, Trump described Pelosi as being “controlled by the radical left.”

WHITE HOUSE DENIES PELOSI 'LEAK' CHARGE AS DETAILS FROM KABUL CABLE RAISE QUESTIONS OVER CLAIM

Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill., also rejected the proposal ahead of the announcement.

Tensions escalate between President Trump and Speaker PelosiVideo
“First, President Trump and Senate Majority Leader [Mitch] McConnell must open the government today. Second, I cannot support the proposed offer as reported and do not believe it can pass the Senate. Third, I am ready to sit down at any time after the government is opened and work to resolve all outstanding issues,” he said in a statement.

Pelosi said that Democrats intended to pass six bills next week and other legislation to open the government, "so that we can fully negotate on border security proposals."

“The President must sign these bills to re-open government immediately and stop holding the American people hostage with this senseless shutdown.  Each day he prolongs this needless crisis, Coast Guardsmen, FBI agents, border patrol officers, TSA agents, and hundreds of thousands more workers are forced to live without knowing how they can feed their families or pay their bills," she said in her statement.

Fox News’ John Roberts, Chad Pergram and Jason Donner contributed to this report.

A 20-year-old man appeared in an Australian court on Saturday charged with murder and rape in a savage attack on an Israeli student that had captured the country’s attention.

Codey Herrmann, an aspiring rapper who performs as MC Codez, did not apply for bail in the Melbourne Magistrates Court. He is accused of killing Aiia Maasarwe, 21, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Maasarwe, 21, was killed on the way home from a comedy show in Melbourne just after midnight Tuesday. She was attacked while speaking to her younger sister in Israel on FaceTime shortly after stepping from a tram in the Melbourne suburb of Bundoora. Maasarwe was from Baqa al-Gharbiya in northern Israel, a predominantly Arab city.

Maasarwe’s body was found in bushes near the tram stop by passers-by several hours later on Wednesday morning.

The victim had been studying at La Trobe University in Melbourne for the past five months as an exchange student from Shanghai University in China.
There have been no known statements from Israeli officials on the murder.

Victoria police, who have described the attack as “horrific,” arrested Herrmann in the outer suburbs of Melbourne on Friday.
Herrmann hung his head Saturday as he sat in the dock and stood only to hear the charges against him read. He was not required to enter pleas.
He will appear in the same court on Monday. A murder conviction carries a potential maximum penalty of life imprisonment and rape carries a potential maximum of 25 years.

Hundreds of people dressed in black held several vigils in Melbourne for Maasarwe on Friday, including filling the 86 tram, which she was believed to have ridden on her way home, with flowers.

Her father Saeed broke down at the crime scene, where dozens of flowers and messages from the public were left nearby in support.
“I feel very, very sad from one side, but from another side, when I get this support and this help — from the people, from the community, from the police — it makes the suffering to feel a little more better,” he told reporters.

“This is the last place my daughter… was here,” he added, breaking down in tears. “I want to be with her for more time, but someone decided I cannot be.”

Her uncle Abed Kittani told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. that Maasarwe’s younger sister remained on the line after the attack.

“She heard the cars passing by and she was helpless, she couldn’t do anything,” Kittani said of the sister, who sent messages, but there was no response.

The ‘Apartheid’ Wall That Isn’t
The international community should be heaping praise on the Israelis for kindness, not harassing the Jewish state with lies about “apartheid.”

By Stephen M. Flatow, JNS

“Segregated Highway Opens in West Bank,” The Washington Post headline blared this week. “Israel Opens ‘Apartheid Road’ in Occupied West Bank,” announced Al Jazeera.

Apartheid? Segregation? Not even close. Like so much of what pretends to be news reporting about Israel these days, this latest “Israeli racism” allegation is just another cheap attempt to smear the Jewish state.

This newest prop in the Palestinian Arab propaganda war against Israel is a highway called Route 4370, northeast of Jerusalem. There is a physical barrier down the middle of the highway. Israeli traffic goes on one side, Palestinian Arab traffic on the other.

Is that apartheid? Of course not. Apartheid means separating people on the basis of their race. Jews, of course, are not a race; and neither are Arabs. On both sides of the divider, there will be drivers of various hues. Dark-skinned Ethiopian Jews alongside light-skinned Russian Jews. Dark-skinned Arabs alongside light-skinned Arabs.

How about religion? Is the traffic divided according to religion? Not at all. On the Israeli side, Israeli Jews, Muslims and Christians are all permitted to drive. On the Arab side, Palestinian Muslims and Palestinian Christians drive.

How about ethnicity? Is it divided according to ethnicity?  Of course not. Israeli Jews and Israeli Arabs are both driving on one side. Palestinians who are of Egyptian origin, Palestinians of Syrian origin and Palestinians of Lebanese origin are all driving on their side.

So, it’s not “apartheid.” And it’s not racial, religious or ethnic “segregation.”

What is it, then? Simple. It’s a division based on citizenship.

Israeli citizens—of all races, religions and ethnicities—are permitted to drive on one side. Non-citizens—of all races, religions and ethnicities—are allowed to drive on the other.

And for good reason. Because on Israeli roads in Judea-Samaria where non-citizens have been permitted access, there have been numerous drive-by shootings by Palestinian Arab non-citizens. There have also been stonings in which Palestinian Arab non-citizens threw rocks from cars because their deadliness has been greatly increased by the speed of the automobiles. That’s how American citizens Asher Palmer and his infant son, Yonatan, were murdered in 2011.

The presumption in Israel is that those who are citizens of Israel—whether Jew, Muslim or Christian—generally can be trusted to be loyal to the state and not likely to engage in terrorism. Obviously, there are exceptions. But by and large, that presumption is accurate.

By contrast, Palestinian Arab non-citizens are engaged in anti-Jewish violence at an alarmingly high rate. There is no reason to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they will be kind or even simply non-violent; they are, after all, citizens of a regime that regards itself as Israel’s enemy.
A Society Drenched in Anti-Semitism
More than that, the Palestinian Authority regime has, for the past 25 years, fed its citizens a daily diet of anti-Jewish hatred and glorification of anti-Jewish violence in their schools, television, radio, newspapers and all other segments of their culture. It is a society drenched in anti-Semitism. Meaning, it is the one society most likely to produce hostile and violent people. Why in the world would Israel expose its citizens to such dangers on its roads?

Every country in the world has different rules for citizens and non-citizens. That’s not apartheid. It’s not segregation. It’s common-sense rule of law. What would be the point of even having citizenship if non-citizens were governed by the same regulations?

The fact that Israel spends millions of shekels building roads for Palestinian Arabs is a remarkable act of unreciprocated generosity. The international community should be heaping praise on the Israelis for kindness, not harassing the Jewish state with lies about “apartheid.” But I guess we’ve all gotten used to that kind of treatment by now.

Stephen M. Flatow, an attorney in New Jersey, is the father of Alisa Flatow, who was murdered in an Iranian-sponsored Palestinian terrorist attack in 1995. His book, “A Father’s Story: My Fight for Justice Against Iranian Terror,” is available on Amazon.

Life-Saving ATVs Stop Terrorists Before they Attack Innocent Israelis

Palestinian attackers have terrorized Israelis with stabbings, shootings, bombings and car-rammings throughout Israel, with no end in sight.

Specialized, state-of-the-art, compact, all-terrain ATVs that maneuver in tight spaces are Israel’s “secret weapon,” designed to pursue and capture terrorists BEFORE they attack. Life-saving ATVs are desperately needed to protect communities throughout Israel. Please donate generously!

WATCH: Canadian PM Refuses to Retract Statement Condemning BDS

 https://unitedwithisrael.org/watch-canadian-pm-refuses-to-retract-statement-condemning-bds/?

A man challenged the Canadian prime minister to retract his statement condemning BDS. Trudeau brilliantly shut him down.

At a town hall meeting at Brock University, responding to a demand from a member of the audience that he retract a previous statement condemning the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau delivered a clear message of opposition to discrimination against Jews and the Jewish state.

Thank you Prime Minister Trudeau for standing firmly against anti-Semitism in all its forms and for standing with Israel.
