CRIMSON WORM-DYE, A KEY ELEMENT FOR RED HEIFER SACRIFICE DEVELOPED IN PREPARATION FOR 3RD TEMPLE
BY ADAM ELIYAHU BERKOWITZ | JUN 28, 2022 | BIBLICAL NEWS

“Come, let us reach an understanding, —says Hashem. Be your sins like crimson, They can turn snow-white; Be they red as dyed wool, They can become like fleece.” Isaiah 1:18 (The Israel BibleTM)

The Biblical Crimson dye known as the 'toelet sheni' was developed by the Temple Insttute (courtesy: Temple Institute)

On Monday, the Temple Institute completed its study of the Biblical crimson dye with a practical demonstration. The study is part of the institute’s ongoing Red Heifer project led by Rabbi Yisrael Ariel and his son, Rabbi Azariah Ariel, as the crimson wool is a necessary element in the preparation of the ashes of the red heifer:

The cow shall be burned in his sight—its hide, flesh, and blood shall be burned, its dung included—and the Kohen shall take cedar wood, hyssop, and crimson stuff and throw them into the fire consuming the cow. Numbers 19:5-6

The study was concluded at an auspicious time as Jews worldwide are currently reading this section of the Torah concerning the Red Heifer. The ceremony of the Red Heifer is one of the most mysterious and inexplicable of all the ceremonies. A perfectly red heifer is slaughtered and burned entirely outside of the temple. The ashes are necessary to purify Jews who have been rendered ritually impure by contact or proximity to a dead body. Though the Temple service can be reinstated without the ashes of the red heifer, personal sacrifices will only be possible after the ceremony is reinstated.

The dye is referred to in the Bible as תּוֹלַעַת שָׁנִי (Tola’at Shani). This term is usually translated as crimson wool, but the actual term refers to the insect, which is the source of the dye. The dye produces a unique shade of red used for the Temple curtain, as well as the High Priest’s garments.

Toalat Shani (courtesy: Temple Institute)

In 2002,  Dr. Zohar Amar of Bar Ilan University claimed to have verified the specific insect referred to in the Bible and even extracted some dye. He concluded that the color produced was orange rather than red.

“We checked many historical sources, the most important of which is Josephus, who was the last to describe and document the existence of the ‘Shani’ in the Temple,” Dr. Amar said. “Josephus describes the color as symbolizing fire, which is orange – as opposed to the red that many think it is. Our production process also produced orange.”

The rabbinic authorities have finally confirmed his conclusions at the Temple Institute. The process is quite involved. In rabbinic literature, the dye is referred to as zehorit, which was extracted from the body of the “crimson worm” (carmine), the Kermes biblicus. In Israel, this worm can be found on the branches of the oak Quercus ithaburensis found in a few specific areas of Israel and for approximately two weeks in the early spring. The females attach egg sacs to the tree and fill them with red eggs. The tree’s egg sacs are difficult to discern due to their size and color. Collecting the insects is painstaking and produces a minuscule amount of the dye. The demonstration was carried out by Rabbi Yehoshua Friedman, the dean of the Mikdash Yeshiva, a Torah institute that focuses on studies concerning the Temple. Rabbi Friedman, who has taken a Nazirite vow and thus has long hair, is a recognized expert in Temple-related issues.

The process begins by dissolving alum in boiling water, and then the insects are immersed in that water. The alum sets the dye and intensifies the crimson color. The wool is then immersed in the water and left to sit for about one hour. After it is removed from the water, the insects are then removed from the wool. Halacha (Jewish law) requires that the wool be immersed all at one and the initial effect of the dye be used for Temple purposes. Straining the insects may diminish the effect, so it is preferable to remove the insects only after the dying process has been completed.

Rav Friedman of the Temple Institute (courtesy: Temple Institute)

A skein of crimson wool dyed in Shani was featured in the culmination of the Yom Kippur Temple Service. A skein was wrapped around the horns of the goat sent to Azazel. The skein of scarlet wool was removed from the goat’s horns and tied to a nearby rock, and thrown from a cliff. The cliff was so sheer that the goat tumbled and was torn to pieces from the fall. If this act of contrition forgave Israel’s sins, the crimson thread would miraculously turn white, as would the thread on the Temple doors. The Prophet Isaiah hinted at this aspect of the Yom Kippur service.

“Come, let us reach an understanding, —says Hashem. Be your sins like crimson, They can turn snow-white; Be they red as dyed wool, They can become like fleece.” Isaiah 1:18

Under the auspices and direction of the Temple Institute, Orna Hirshberg, a resident of Itamar in Samaria, has dedicated herself to bringing back this necessary component of the Temple as part of the Temple-related work that is specific to women.

“I basically work alone and see this as my personal connection to the Temple,” Hirshberg told Israel365 News. “Every person has their special connection, but the purpose of the Temple is to bring all of mankind together to serve Hashem (God). The work itself should bring us together. I consult with the Temple Institute and the rabbis who study the sources in depth. Even so, it is one thing to learn how about the theory of the Temple and something else entirely to learn practically how to create it.”

She is currently working on embroidering garments for the Kohanim and producing the wool for the Red Heifer. She has woven a curtain for the Temple as a model to teach and inspire. In addition, making the curtain taught her a great deal about making the actual curtain.

“I am funding all of this myself,” she said. “To actually create these things for the Temple would be too much work and too much money for one person to take on themselves. But I pledged that my work with weaving and embroidery would be sanctified and not used for unholy objects. So this is what I do.”

Orna’s work can be seen on her website.

ISRAELI FIRM COMMITS TO SHIPPING 200,000 CANS OF BABY FORMULA TO US TO HELP SOLVE CRISIS

An Israeli-based company hopes to fill the void as the baby-formula shortage in the United States continues with parents continuing to find store shelves bare, particularly for those seeking specialty formulas.

Three weeks ago, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued emergency guidance enabling the import of infant formulas produced abroad. Tel Aviv-based MyOr—an Israeli health-tech company—is among companies seeking FDA approval as its Mexican subsidiary, AlphaCare, produces and markets MyOr formulas from a plant in north-central Mexico.

“We have 200,000 cans of formula ready to be shipped right now, with a capacity to produce another 250,000 a month,” said MyOr co-founder and chief technology officer Michael Brandwein. Once it receives FDA approval, he said, the company will be able to ship formula to homes and distributors in a matter of days, as many back-end arrangements have already been made.

Among the formula products AlphaCare makes are specialty ones in very short supply.

“These are for premature babies and for infants dealing with food allergies and sensitivities,” said Brandwein. “They are produced by fewer companies and in smaller batches.”

He said the company remains hopeful that “approval will come in the next few days,” describing the process as akin to the frantic early approval process for COVID-19 vaccines.

Founded in 2018, MyOr provides preventive health-care solutions for infants at-risk with a specific focus on food allergies and nutritional sufficiency. Company products include a digital platform for predicting food allergies and eczema from birth, as well as a non-invasive hemoglobin test using a smartphone camera.

“MyOr has received numerous requests from distressed retailers in the U.S. eager to supply our products,” said Dr. Ariel Katz, CEO of MyOr and AlphaCare. “We’re talking about the most basic and humane act of providing newborn babies with nutrition. MyOr has made supporting the community of parents in the United States our No. 1 priority.”

Iran launches rocket into space as nuclear talks to resume

Iran launches rocket into space as nuclear talks to resumeAn Iranian “Zuljanah" satellite-carrier rocket launch from an undisclosed location in Iran, June 26, 2022 in a screengrab from video footage. (IRINN via AP)
U.S. criticizes launch as “unhelpful and destabilizing.”

By Associated Press

Iranian state television said Sunday that Tehran had launched a solid-fueled rocket into space, drawing a rebuke from Washington ahead of the expected resumption of stalled talks over Tehran’s tattered nuclear deal with world powers.

It’s unclear when or where the rocket was launched, but the announcement came after satellite photos showed preparations at Imam Khomeini Spaceport in Iran’s rural Semnan province, the site of Iran’s frequent failed attempts to put a satellite into orbit.

State-run media aired dramatic footage of the blastoff against the backdrop of heightened tensions over Tehran’s nuclear program, which is racing ahead under decreasing international oversight.

Iran had previously acknowledged that it planned more tests for the satellite-carrying rocket, which it first launched in February of last year.

Ahmad Hosseini, spokesman for Iran’s Defense Ministry, said Zuljanah, a 25.5 meter-long rocket, was capable of carrying a satellite of 220 kilograms (485 pounds) that would ultimately gather data in low-earth orbit and promote Iran’s space industry.

The White House said it was aware of Iran’s announcement and criticized the move as “unhelpful and destabilizing.”

The launch comes just a day after the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, traveled to Tehran in a push to resuscitate negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program that have stalemated for months. A few significant sticking points remain, including Tehran’s demand that Washington lift terrorism sanctions on its paramilitary Revolutionary Guard.

Borrell said on Saturday that talks over the nuclear deal would resume in an unnamed Persian Gulf country in the coming days, with Iranian media reporting that Qatar would likely host the negotiations.

Former President Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from the nuclear deal in 2018 and reimposed crushing sanctions on Iran. Tehran responded by greatly ramping up its nuclear work and now enriches uranium closer than ever to weapons-grade levels.

In a further escalation that limits the international community’s view into its nuclear program, Iran removed over two dozen International Atomic Energy Agency cameras from its nuclear sites this month. The agency’s director called the move a “fatal blow” to the tattered nuclear deal.

Tehran’s rocket launches have raised alarm in Washington amid the unraveling of the nuclear deal. The U.S. warns the launches defy a United Nations Security Council resolution calling on Iran to steer clear of any activity related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons.

The White House on Sunday said it was committed to using sanctions and other measures to prevent further advances in Iran’s ballistic missile program.

The U.S. intelligence community’s 2022 threat assessment, published in March, claims such a satellite launch vehicle “shortens the timeline” to an intercontinental ballistic missile for Iran as it uses “similar technologies.”

Iran, which long has said it does not seek nuclear weapons, maintains its satellite launches and rocket tests do not have a military component.

Even as Iran’s government has sharpened its focus on space, sending several short-lived satellites into orbit and in 2013 launching a monkey into space, the program has seen recent troubles. There have been five failed launches in a row for the Simorgh program, a type of satellite-carrying rocket. A fire at the Imam Khomeini Spaceport in February 2019 also killed three researchers.

The launch pad used in the preparations for the launch of the Zuljanah rocket remains scarred from an explosion in August 2019 that even drew the attention of then-President Trump. He later tweeted what appeared to be a classified surveillance image of the launch failure. Satellite images from February suggested a failed Zuljanah launch earlier this year, though Iran did not acknowledge it.

Meanwhile, Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard in April 2020 revealed its own secret space program by successfully launching a satellite into orbit. The Guard operates its own military infrastructure parallel to Iran’s regular armed forces.

As Israel’s parliament falls apart and prepares for new elections, there is only one person that is the favorite to be Prime Minister.
Bibi Netanyahu had the premiership stolen from him and in a few months will be poised to take the reigns of power in Israel once again.

MK Simcha Rothman interview to NEWSMAX (26/6/2022)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMzdEWi91Ak

With PM Naftali Bennett preparing to drop out of politics, the stage is set for a Netanyahu comeback. Given the frustration may people have with the current government, there are many supporters looking to put Bibi Netanyahu back in office.

The current government fell because it relied on terror supporters as coalition members.

“This majority coalition actually started as a lame duck,” said Simcha Rothman of the otzma Yehudit. “The magic number in Israel is 61, because we have a parliament of 120 members, and even in the vote to begin the coalition they had the support of 60 Knesset Members, not 61.”

With the bill still in committee, there is hope that elections can be avoided by putting Likud back in power.

Nuclear talks in Vienna poised to resume this week, fueling major concerns in Israeli security establishment.

By World Israel News Staff

Negotiations in Vienna aimed at restoring the 2015 Iran nuclear deal are set to resume this week, after Tehran and the European Union agreed to reboot talks.

On Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian held a joint press conference in Tehran with Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

At the press conference the two announced that talks between the EU and Iran will restart this week.

“The coming days means the coming days, I mean quickly, immediately,” Borell said, The Associated Press reported, urging the Biden administration to join the rebooted talks.

“Negotiations must resume, and this is a decision that must be made in Tehran and Washington.”

However, White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby declined to comment on the negotiations’ status.

“But there’s nothing changed about our position that a nuclear deal is the best way to prevent Iran from achieving nuclear weapons status,” Kirby said. “We want to get them back into compliance.”

The talks in Vienna collapsed in March, with Iran quickly moving to curtail international surveillance of its nuclear program and to bolster its uranium enrichment operations.

In early June, Iran deactivated several surveillance devices used by United Nations inspectors to monitor Iran’s uranium enrich operations, drawing condemnation from the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The Israeli government praised the IAEA earlier this month for its censure of Iran, but Israel’s security establishment now fears the renewed talks in Vienna could lead to a new agreement which could pose a serious threat to the Jewish state.

“If it will be signed, the current deal would be very bad for Israel,” a senior Israeli security official told Israel’s Channel 12.

“It would be limited to two and a half years, and it will allow Iran to develop its economy, thus giving it the ability to significantly grow its military capabilities across the Middle East.

Israel fears that the Biden administration is likely to sign onto the new nuclear agreement in November, following the midterm elections.

President Joe Biden’s meetings with Israeli and Saudi leaders during his Middle East trip next month are expected to focus heavily on the resumption of talks in Vienna.

Israel’s primary concern with the emerging nuclear deal is that it will give Iran less than a year of breakout time. Unconfirmed reports indicate the agreement will set the amount of time Tehran needs to produce the amount of highly enriched uranium needed for a nuclear bomb to four to six months.

While uranium needs to be only 3.67 percent pure to generate nuclear power, Iran has enriched its uranium stockpile to 60%, a degree of purity that no country without an atomic weapon has pursued. A nuclear bomb requires uranium to be enriched to 90% purity.

Israel also fears that a premature lifting of sanctions will enable Tehran to boost its support for its terror proxies across the Middle East.

The controversial Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) of 2015 promised Iran economic incentives in exchange for limits on its nuclear program. Former president Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from the agreement in 2018. Negotiating a return to the nuclear agreement is a key foreign policy goal of U.S. President Joe Biden.

Israel, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states, oppose an American return to the JCPOA agreement.

The airport strike marked a major escalation in tensions between Israel and Iran.

By Associated Press

The international airport in Syria’s capital will resume flights after nearly two weeks following an Israeli airstrike that caused serious damage to the facility, state TV reported Wednesday.

The outlet quoted the Transportation Ministry as saying that flights will resume at Damascus International Airport on Thursday adding that all companies “should schedule their arriving and departing flights as of this date.”

According to the Syrian Observatory For Human Rights, a British-based war monitor, the air strike made the main runway unusable and destroyed terminal arrival halls used by Iranian operatives, as well as communication towers, three weapons depots belonging to Hezbollah and other airport infrastructure.

The Observatory also said the destroyed terminals had been designated as VIP areas for Iranian personnel and for storing smuggled missile components.

Israel accused Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps of smuggling missile components to Hezbollah on civilian flights through the Damascus airport.

Israel’s Kan News reported that the smuggled components were intended to convert conventional missiles into precision weapons.

Work has been ongoing since then to repair the damage and flights have been mostly diverted to the international airport in the northern city of Aleppo, Syria’s largest city.

Israel’s military has declined to comment on the Damascus airport airstrike. The facility is located just south of the capital, where Syrian opposition activists say Iran-backed militiamen are active and have arms depots.

Israel has staged hundreds of strikes on targets in Syria over the years but rarely acknowledges or discusses such operations. The airport strike marked a major escalation in Israel’s campaign, further ratcheting up tensions between Israel on one side and Iran and its Lebanese ally, Hezbollah terrorist organization, on the other.

Israel says it targets bases of Iran-allied militias, such as Hezbollah, which has fighters deployed in Syria fighting on the side of President Bashar Assad’s government forces and ships arms believed to be bound for the militias.

World Israel News staff contributed to this report.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xt2ZHFUAXlU
BOOST THIS VIDEO – AMPLIFY THE TRUTH

Over the past year and especially since the Bennett-Abbas government started criticizing Russia for invading Ukraine, Russia and Israel has seen their relationship unravel. Where at one time, Russia appeared to be ambivalent to Israel’s incursions into Syrian airspace in order to strike Iranian targets, now Moscow has increasingly grown belligerent and bellicose.

Currently, Russia has established 15 known bases throughout Syria. These bases houses thousands of Russian troops and this number continues to grow. Over the last few months, Russia has launched more and more joint drills with Syria and as increased its activity on Israel’s borders

Russia has already increased and activated Syria’s S-400 anti-air system plus Putin has moved over nuclear capable hypersonic missiles to the Syrian dictator.

So what should Israel do?

On one hand Israel cannot take on Russia, but on the other it also cannot allow continued Iranian buildup. A recent research paper by ALMA suggests the following:

“Israel needs to set the rules of the game in the region. The countries on Israel’s northern border should be considered one arena, and Israel should establish a central rule: any threat to Israel’s security will be met with an independent response from Israel, and the other “players” should take this into account. On their part, they need to manage their risks concerning this Israeli principle.”

Where is this all going?

Russia’s interest in Israel is both geopolitical and religious. Putin’s expansionist aspirations both in Ukraine and the Holy Land are connected first and foremost to his belief that the Russian people are a “chosen” people. Kiev is the birthplace of the Rus people and Jerusalem is the birthplace of Christianity.

Geopolitically, Putin is aiming for complete control over the Black Sea region so he can control food prices and when it comes to the Eastern Mediterranean, Russia is looking to pose a threat to Israeli gas exports.

A Battle Looming?

Right now Russia and Syria are not yet ready to launch an attack, but the coming months, especially as Russia turns the tables in Ukraine, gives Putin a near term time table where he may be able to support a united Iranian, Syrian, and Hezbollah attack on Israel in August or September.

With Israel’s government in free fall and enemies gathering, it is clear that despite all of our friends around the world, Israel has no one to rely expect the One Above.

A group of 24 Democratic U.S. Senators have called for the U.S. to become more directly involved in the investigation into the death of American-Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.

The letter, sent to President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Attorney General Merrick Garland and Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Christopher Wray on Thursday was spearheaded by Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md).

The 24 senators signing it represented nearly half of the Senate’s Democrats. Signatories included Jewish Senators Bernie Sanders (D-Vt) and Brian Schatz (D-Haw.).

“We believe that, as a leader in the effort to protect the freedom of the press and the safety of journalists, and given the fact that Ms. Abu Akleh was an American citizen, the US government has an obligation to ensure that a comprehensive, impartial, and open investigation into her shooting death is conducted — one in which all parties can have full confidence in the ultimate findings.”

The veteran Al Jazeera correspondent was killed while covering a shootout in Jenin in May. Palestinians insist that the 51-year-old reporter was killed by Israeli fire, with some accusing the IDF of deliberately targeting Abu Akleh.

The Palestinian Authority has not allowed Israeli investigators to examine the bullet that killed the journalist and instead demands that Israel instead hand over to Ramallah the IDF guns used that day. The PA also rejected Israel’s offer to conduct a joint probe.

In a statement earlier in June, the IDF said its investigation concluded that Abu Akleh “was not intentionally shot by an IDF soldier” but that it was “not possible to determine whether she was killed by a Palestinian gunman shooting indiscriminately in her area or inadvertently by an IDF soldier.”

The senators’ letter treated Israel’s claims skeptically while giving credibility to Palestinian eyewitnesses and media reports by CNN, the Associated Press, New York Times and Washington Post which all accuse Israel killing Abu Akleh.

“Israeli authorities have said that Ms. Abu Akleh was killed in an exchange of fire between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants… but [the media outlet investigations] concluded that there was no Palestinian gunfire emanating from the location of the shooting at the time of Ms. Abu Akleh’s killing,” the letter said.

Haaretz reported that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) which is lobbying against a U.S. investigation, sought to block the letter by pointing out to the the Senators that the circumstances of Abu Akleh’s death remain unclear and that the letter “implies both Israeli culpability and inability to conduct an objective, thorough investigation of the incident.”

In May, 57 House Democrats called for the FBI to investigate after accusing the PA of refusing to cooperate with Israeli authorities.

President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit Jerusalem and Ramallah in mid-July. He has not personally indicated what he might tell Israeli and Palestinian officials about the stalemated investigation.

WILL IRAN STRIKE AGAINST ISRAEL DURING ITS GOVERNMENT’S COLLAPSE?

With Yair Lapid set to take over as Israel’s Prime Minister and a very real possibility that Naftali Bennett will retire from politics, Iran may be gearing up for some sort of serious attack against Israel.

Will Israel Political INSTABILITY Embolden Iran & Can Bibi WIN Once Again? | Watchman Newscast LIVE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3UFsNLRek8&t=18s

Yair Lapid’s lack of geopolitical expertise is a clear and present danger to Israel’s ability to fend off attacks from Iran or any of its proxies. Add the Russian troops and air force stationed in Syria and Israel is faces its fiercest challenge since 1973.

Will Iran strike?

Impossible to know, but there would be no better time for them to do so. Hezbollah has been training for years to pull off a cross border raid. With 100,000 missiles pointed at all points in Israel and a weak prime minister at its helm, Hezbollah may try to go for it all.

With all of the above being said, Lapid may surprise and instead of leading Israel to its destruction, he may just rise to the challenge and pull off the unthinkable.

Yes – its a stretch, but one may dream.

WILL NETANYAHU MAKE A COMEBACK?
written by Micha Gefen June 22, 2022 439 views
The biggest rule in Israeli politics is there are no predictions. However, it is pretty clear that Bibi Netanyahu stands a good chance at returning to the Prime Minister’s Office.

True, polls show the blocks deadlocked, however, most people sense that the street is in no mood to take a chance on someone politically unseasoned again. With the world heading towards more and more chaos, Israelis want an experienced hand at governing – this someone is most probably Bibi Netanyahu – the longest serving prime minister in Israel’s history.

With Iran drawing close to a nuclear weapon, Russia on the move, and an Arab uprising happening in slow motion, only someone on Netanyahu’s level can restore Israel’s deterrence.

Whatever the outcome in Israel’s election this fall, it is guaranteed to be a chaotic elections season.

With broad swaths of fertile farmland, Ukraine has long acted as Europe’s bread basket. The aftereffects of Russia’s invasion three months ago are just starting to be felt but are feared to be far-reaching. After two years of pandemic shutdowns and restrictions, the war’s effects are magnified. The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization’s Food Price Index is the highest since the index began in 1990. Eight types of food products are stocked in the emergency food reserve managed by the Chief Food Authority, replenished in a first-in-first-out rotation in quantities sufficient for the period determined by the reference scenario: baby food; dry yeast; flour; canola and soy oil; white sugar; coffee beans; tea; and white rice.

The UN World Food Programme’s Executive Director, David Beasley, said: “Conflict, the climate crisis, Covid-19, and surging food and fuel costs have created a perfect storm — and now we’ve got the war in Ukraine piling catastrophe on top of catastrophe.”

The 2022 Global Report on Food Crises said about 180 million people across 40 countries would face certain food insecurity, which can also lead to malnutrition, mass hunger, and famine.

Ukraine and Russia produce about 29% of the world’s wheat supply. Israel imports its wheat mainly from Russia and Ukraine, but in the tradition of Joseph storehousing wheat to feed Egypt for seven years of famine, Israel is prepared. The National Emergency Authority (RACHEL) is responsible for emergency food reserves for the home front. In an interview with The Media Line on Sunday, Lilach Weissman, the spokesperson of the Israeli Finance Ministry, reassured Israelis that the situation was under control.

“There is a stock [of wheat in Israel, enough] for a very long period ahead, so there is no impact at the moment, and no shortage is expected,” she said.
This was graphically illustrated in a Channel 13 News video:

A suspected Iranian cyber attack likely set off rocket-warning sirens in the cities of Jerusalem and Eilat on Sunday, Israeli media reported on Monday.

Israeli cybersecurity authorities said the attack targeted municipal alert systems, but did not breach essential IDF infrastructure, according to Ynet

Authorities “instructed local councils to take precautionary steps to secure their alert systems, since they were activated by municipal alert systems and not by the IDF’s Home Front Command,” the report said.

The report cited Yoram Cohen, head of the Israel Internet Association, as saying that the hack “did not appear to harm any vital infrastructure,” but that it had once again exposed vulnerabilities in civilian systems.

“There is a gap between Israel’s excellent cyber defenses on critical infrastructure compared to non-critical civilian systems,” said Cohen. “This was not the first cyberattack to demonstrate the gap, and there must be increased awareness of the fact in order to protect Israel’s networks.”

Last week, the Checkpoint cybersecurity firm said Iranian hackers were likely behind a breach of email accounts belonging to former and current senior Israeli officials, including an Israeli ambassador to the United States and a former general.

Israel and Saudis are getting closer, regardless of Biden’s trip to the Middle East

“This is not a breakthrough, but another stage in the tightening relationship between the two countries.”
By Israel Kasnett, JNS.org
U.S. President Joe Biden’s upcoming visit to the Middle East in July, when he is expected to visit Saudi Arabia and Israel with a stop likely in Bethlehem, where he will meet with Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas, is sure to be full of expectations.

The trip will likely be fully prepared and scripted beforehand with agreements and understandings in place before Air Force One touches down in Riyadh.

The question is what are the expectations from the United States with regard to Israel and what change will the Israel-Saudi relationship undergo if at all?

Michal Yaari, an expert on the Arab Gulf states at Ben Gurion-University of the Negev and the Open University in the United Kingdom, told JNS that while there have been increasing reports of a close rapprochement between Saudi Arabia and Israel, “this is not a breakthrough, but another stage in the tightening relationship between the two countries.”

“Similar to the Jordanian and Egyptian cases, the decision to cooperate between Israel and Saudi Arabia rests first and foremost on security-strategic footing,” she said.

“Israel and Saudi Arabia share a common concern about the intensification of the Iranian threat [conventional and unconventional] and the spread of Iranian influence in the regional space,” Yaari stated.

“Now that the nuclear agreement with Iran is receding and the ability to oversee the development of nuclear weapons is diminishing, the importance of cooperation is growing and emphasized.”

Yaari added that alongside the Iranian threat, “there are other threats that concern the two countries, such as the strengthening of jihadist terrorist organizations, the instability of the Jordanian regime and more.”

Yaari said that Jerusalem and Riyadh are “well-aware that the tightening of relations will allow for a better and more effective ability to cope with the changing reality, hence the growing importance of the emerging alliance between the two countries.”

She added that beyond the security aspect, “the economic aspect is also a significant factor in changing the status of the relationship.”

According to Yaari, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salmon (MBS) is “marching his country towards a new era in which the Saudi economy will be less dependent on oil profits. To this end, he is leading dramatic labor-market reforms aimed at diversifying sources of income, integrating young people into the private sector and introducing advanced science and technology.”

Yaari noted that Israeli expertise can greatly benefit Saudi Arabia and MBS knows it.

“In this sense,” she said, “Israel is a role model due to its branding as a high-tech nation, where creativity and unconventional thinking are of great importance.”

Biden is ‘looking to climb down from that tree’
What makes Biden’s trip unique is that it comes after a period of strained ties between the United States and Saudi Arabia, and the president’s visit is meant as a way to smooth things over with the Saudis as he seeks reprieve for his domestic problems, specifically, rising fuel prices.

During his election campaign for the White House, Biden pledged to treat Saudis as a “pariah” for the 2018 killing and dismemberment of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a critic of MBS.

U.S. intelligence officials concluded that the crown prince likely approved Khashoggi’s murder.

Laying the groundwork for better relations, the White House recently praised Saudi Arabia for its role in securing an OPEC+ pledge to produce more barrels of oil per day. Biden also lauded the Saudis for demonstrating “courageous leadership” by agreeing to a 60-day ceasefire extension in its war with Yemen.

Joshua Teitelbaum of the Department of Middle Eastern Studies at Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan told JNS that Biden’s visit is intended to improve relations between America and Saudi Arabia.

Teitelbaum added that Biden is “looking to climb down from that tree of boycotting Saudi Arabia” after having called it a “pariah.”

The “political cover” for the trip, he said, could be provided by “an Israeli-Saudi advancement of relations that he could preside over.”

‘Bring peace, if I can’
Earlier this month, in an effort to quell questions over his rapprochement with Saudi Arabia, Biden said he is still a human-rights activist, but he is also for peace.

“Look, I’m not going to change my view on human rights,” he told reporters on June 3, when asked about the tentative trip to Saudi Arabia. “But as president of the United States, my job is to bring peace if I can. And that’s what I’m going to try to do.”

As part of the talks surrounding the trip, two Red Sea islands—Tiran and Sanafir—will officially be returned to Saudi Arabia from Egyptian control. Egypt previously signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia in 2016 for the transfer of the islands to Riyadh’s control.

The islands are in a sensitive location as they control the Straits of Tiran, the main sea route to the Eilat Port and to Jordan’s Aqaba Port. Israel agreed to the deal in principle in 2017 on the condition that Egypt and Saudi Arabia agreed to the continued activity of peacekeepers on the islands.

Now, Israel has agreed to new security arrangements that will allow Egypt to transfer control of two strategic islands to Saudi Arabia. In return, Saudi Arabia will allow Israeli airlines to fly through its airspace, significantly reducing flight times to countries in the east.

According to Teitelbaum, these agreements are all part of the “little steps that could be done and that will give Biden and the Saudis a cover.”

“Above all,” said Yaari, “the breakthrough was made possible because of MBS’s appreciation of Israel and his disappointment with the Palestinian leadership.”

“Unlike other leaders in the region, the Saudis do not see Israel as an enemy, but as an important and significant ally,” she added. “Even if a normalization agreement is not signed in the coming months, there is no doubt that the rapprochement between the two countries will deepen.”

ISRAEL’S GOVERNMENT COLLAPSES – THE LEFT AND ARABS TAKE FULL CONTROL OF THE COUNTRY

Well the end for the most complicated and incoherent government in Israel has arrived. Cobbled together using loopholes in Israel’s political system as a way of unseating Prime Minister Netanyahu, it becomes the shortest lived coalition ever.

Due to increased defections from dissatisfied Yamina party members, the coalition was unable to function and became increasingly reliant on Arab parties within the coalition and in the opposition to function. Given that, Bennett and Lapid took to two podiums to announce the breakup of the 24th Knesset, handing Yair Lapid the role of caretaker Prime Minister until new elections.

This move gives Lapid, an ardent secularist, what he has always sought – control of Israel – albeit with limited powers and only until a new government is formed. Still, with elections in September, the damage a Lapid government can do, especially in partnership with Arab parties, may be irreversible.

With President Joe Biden arriving in Israel in July, a Prime Minister Lapid may attempt to sell Israel out to the Arabs in order to make irreversible changes to Israel’s standing visa vi Judea and Samaria and Jerusalem. While no agreement is binding, the mere mentions of unilateral concessions is dangerous.

Even without a public capitulation, Lapid’s standing in Israel will be increased and his ability to manipulate the body-politic going into elections will be higher than ever.

Despite Ukraine’s record of voting against Israel at the UN, its embassy in Israel launches scathing social media campaign accusing Jerusalem of not helping Ukrainian soldiers due to their nationality.

By Lauren Marcus, World Israel News

The Ukrainian Embassy in Israel launched a scathing social media campaign on Sunday, slamming the Jewish State for not treating wounded Ukrainian soldiers in Israeli hospitals and suggesting that the country was not fulfilling its humanitarian obligations.

A black and white image of a Ukrainian soldier with two amputated legs was posted to the Embassy’s official Twitter account, with text in Hebrew reading: “The Israeli government is refusing to treat him, just because he’s Ukrainian.”

Accompanying the image, which was emblazoned with the official logo of the Embassy, the diplomatic institution wrote a Hebrew-language message with blistering criticism of Israel.

“Many Ukrainians lost body parts in Russian attacks,” the text reads.

“Israel is an international leader in the field of prostheses. We expect the Israeli government to do the right moral thing and help Delil [the wounded soldier in the image] and many other Ukrainians recover. There is no justification for the continued delay in aid in this humanitarian area.”

There was no mention of the multimillion dollar field hospital that Israel constructed in Ukraine to treat thousands of Ukrainian civilians.

The aggressive tone of the message did not go unnoticed by both Israeli officials and social media users.

“This style [of rhetoric] is not acceptable,” a senior Foreign Ministry official told Ynet.

“There is a way to make requests and it is not customary for a foreign ambassador to blindside the country where he is no longer a guest,” they added.

The campaign comes on the heels of numerous statements from Ukrainian officials bemoaning what they say is insufficient support from Israel after the Russian invasion.

Israel has repeatedly refrained from publicly taking sides in the conflict, attempting to maintain warm ties with both Moscow and Kyiv.

Moscow has de facto control over Syria’s skies, one reason as to why Israel has not imposed harsh sanctions on Russia like much of Europe and the Western world. However, Israel’s policy of neutrality has seen it be repeatedly land in the crosshairs of both Russian and Ukraine.

Although Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has offered to broker negotiations between the two sides and help with a potential peace agreements, both countries have accused Israel of tacitly taking the other’s side.

Russia has also ramped up its criticism of Israeli air strikes in Syria, a marked departure from previous policy.

Ukrainian officials have vocally complained about Israel’s refusal to send military support and supplies to the embattled eastern European nation, despite medical and humanitarian aid they had received from Jerusalem.

UN Watch noted that since 2015, Ukraine has voted against Israel in 78% of UN resolutions concerning Israel, including one just last week.

“Dear Ambassador Yevgen Korniychuk: Last year Hamas terrorists fired 4,000 rockets at Israeli civilians. When the UN adopts Palestinian-sponsored resolutions that condemn Israel for defending itself, why does Ukraine vote for 78% of them?” the NGO stated.

ISRAEL RESPONDS TO GAZA ROCKET FIRE BY DESTROYING HAMAS BASE
written by Micha Gefen June 18, 2022 4715 views
Jihadists from the Gaza Strip fired rockets at Israel on Shabbat at 3:12 in the morning. One of the rockets was intercepted.

The IDF quickly responded to the rocket fire by destroying Hamas’ “Salah A-Din” base in the eastern neighborhood of Zitan in Gaza city.

Thankfully no one in Israel was injured by the rocket fire. However, the attack is the first of such in quite some time and appears to be linked to the government’s uncertain future.

Jihadists in the Gaza Strip often times launch attacks when it appears that Israel is about to enter political turbulence. Given that there is a Muslim Brotherhood party in the coalition, which is a first for Israel, Hamas and Islamic Jihad are perhaps trying to instigate chaos in order for Ra’am to exit the coalition, and bring about it’s demise.

Nominee for Mideast aid position walks back criticism of Abraham accords during Senate grilling.

By Dmitriy Shapiro, JNS.org

Two Biden administration nominees for top posts related to the Middle East came under fire for alleged anti-Israel bias by Senate Republicans in their confirmation hearing on Thursday.

The hearing, held in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, comes at a critical time as U.S. President Joe Biden is expected to travel to Israel and Saudi Arabia next month while the United States is struggling to repair its frayed relationship with the Arab kingdom amid skyrocketing gas prices.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) took issue with Tamara Cofman Wittes, the nominee for assistant administrator for the Middle East at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which is responsible for distributing aid for development in the Middle East.

Cruz said that rather than a confirmation hearing, the Democratic majority convened a hearing on the “profound anti-Israel bias of the Biden administration.”

During questioning, Cruz pointed to Cofman Wittes’s controversial past of being highly critical of the Abraham Accords during the Trump administration, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

“Why were you urging Arab countries not to deepen ties with Israel?” he asked, referring to a September 2020 tweet, reported by the Washington Free Beacon, where she wrote: “If I were an Arab leader weighing ties with Israel, I would have 2 things in mind. 1) A promise from [Trump adviser Jared] Kushner now isn’t worth much. Why not wait until after Nov elections? 2) Bibi’s backtracked on his commitments to UAE; his promises aren’t worth much either. Let’s wait & see … ”

“I was skeptical when the Emiratis made their announcement, which was breathtaking in August 2020,” she replied. “I was skeptical that other Arab states would join them. I was proven wrong.”

In her opening statement, Cofman Wittes praised the Abraham Accords, calling them a “foundation for more cooperation between Arab states and Israel on shared interests, including on development.” She added that if confirmed, she would help “build on the Abraham Accords to bolster positive engagement across the region on issues like energy, environment, water and health.”

‘Key pillar of our foreign policy’
Ranking member Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.) asked her to reconcile her earlier views on the Abraham Accords with her current support.

Young mentioned that Cofman Wittes had retweeted an article that called the Abraham Accords misogynistic, a “triumph for authoritarianism” and a “new naksa,” Arabic for “setback.”

“I was wrong about that,” she replied. “We’ve seen Morocco, we’ve seen Sudan, we’ve seen Bahrain come, and that, I think, creates a tremendous opportunity that we need to seize.”

Cruz claimed that Wittes’s former employer, the Brookings Institution, had publicly revealed it took millions in funding from Qatar. He also noted that the former president of the Washington-based think tank, retired Marine Gen. John R. Allen, has recently resigned after reports that the FBI was investigating allegations that Allen lobbied on behalf of Qatar without registering as a foreign agent.

When asked to what extent she participated in fundraising for Qatar by Cruz, she replied that she had no knowledge of Allen’s activities.

While she claimed that she knew that Qatar funded work produced by the institution, she insisted that it played no role in the research and that she only once participated in a fundraising meeting with Qatari representatives in 2012, but it was under former Brookings executive vice president Martin Indyk.

“I want to be very clear, I had no knowledge of any of these disturbing allegations regarding General Allen,” she said. “I didn’t discuss research on Qatar with General Allen. I did not do fundraising meetings for foreign governments with General Allen.”

Cofman Wittes insisted that despite Brookings’ projects being funded by Qatar, her research and the research she supervised were completely independent of international donors.

‘Wrapped within our values’
Michael Ratney, current Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. embassy in Israel, who is nominated for the post of ambassador to Saudi Arabia, had a slightly less contentious time during the hearing, despite the importance of his role in the current climate.

He said that he was going to continue building on the relationship between Saudi Arabia and the United States while staying in line with the Biden administration’s focus on human rights as a “key pillar of our foreign policy.”

Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) echoed some of the priorities laid out by Ratney in his opening statements, mentioning the need for progress towards normalization between Saudi Arabia and Israel, “but this all needs to be wrapped within our values.”

Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), who himself served as ambassador to Japan in the Trump administration, asked Ratney about an incident during his time as U.S. Consul General in Jerusalem from 2012 to 2015, where American taxpayer funds provided as grants to a pro-Democracy organization in the region ended up being used to oppose then Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s re-election bid.

“Under your watch, the State Department provided $465,000 in grants to a group called OneVoice, which then joined a group called Victory 15 and worked to defeat Benjamin Netanyahu and his Likud Party in Israel’s elections,” said Hagerty. “This struck many observers, including me, as highly inappropriate, if not unethical, especially given that the Obama administration disagreed with Netanyahu and his many policies, including the Iran nuclear deal.”

Hagerty asked Ratney how he did not foresee and guard against the risk that U.S. State Department funding would go towards political activism.

Ratney said he was only responsible for oversight of the “Palestinian component” of the grant to OneVoice, which was going towards building “grassroots support for a two-state solution” and the negotiating process underway at the time.

Hagerty then asked if Ratney disputed findings in a report on the incident by the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations that he deleted emails related to the review of OneVoice grants.

Ratney said that this finding by the investigation was the result of a systematic issue at the State Department at that time, where there was no requirement to archive all of the routine emails that the State Department sent or received.

“At the time, the State Department—the email systems didn’t have the storage capacity to retain large numbers of emails in people’s inboxes. This was not unique to me,” said Ratney. “We were routinely instructed by our IT staff that if you don’t delete emails, especially those with large attachments, your inbox freezes and you stop getting emails. So that was a systemic problem that was addressed both by improvements in the technology and also a change to the policy about archiving of these messages.”

SENATOR TED CRUZ SLAMS BIDEN APPOINTEE FOR ANTI-ISRAEL RECORD
written by Avi Abelow June 16, 2022 1254 views
In this Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) cross examines Dr. Tamara Cofman Wittes, nominee to be an Assistant Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development, for her anti-Israel record.
JUST IN: Ted Cruz Accuses Biden Nominee Of 'Concerning' Conduct To Her Face
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeWNmwXIR28

Dr. Tamara Cofman Wittes worked for the Brookings Institute, which receives funding from Qatar, not a friendly country to the USA and an enemy of Israel. Qatar pushes its anti-USA, anti-Israel global agenda via propaganda on its own, very well state-funded media empire Al-Jazeera.

Senator Cruz corners Dr. Wittes with a number of extremely embarrassing points about her research, the funding Brookings Institute was involved in, work of hers funded by Qatar and about her boss, the head of Brookings, who recently had to resign because he was working as a foreign agent for Qatar!

If that was not enough, Senator Cruz brings up her very anti-Israel record, reminding her of public statements she made urging Arab Muslim countries to not sign on to the Abraham Accords to normalize ties with Israel as well as her publicly insulting Egyptian President Al-Sisi.

Senator Cruz is baffled that the Biden administration could continuously appoint people with such anti-Israel records that go against the national interests of the USA.

Unfortunately, since the nomination committee has a majority of Democrats, her appointment is almost guaranteed, despite her anti-Israel record.

ISRAEL SIGNS GAS DEAL WITH EUROPE, WILL PUTIN TARGET ISRAEL NEXT?
written by Micha Gefen June 15, 2022 415 views
As gas prices soar throughout the world, the chatter in the last few weeks over an Israeli solution to Europe’s gas problems grew steadily. The chatter became so real that the German economy minister was seen meeting Israeli officials.

Israel, Europe & Egypt Sign HISTORIC Natural Gas Deal; Russia SHUT OUT? | Watchman Newscast LIVE

Last year, Europe important 40% of its gas from Russia. With the war raging in Ukraine, the EU block is looking for serious alternatives.

The deal signed today in Cairo, Egypt sees Israeli gas exported to Egypt for liquefaction and then shipped to Israel. This deal will help Europe shift away from Russian gas.

“The memorandum of understanding will allow Israel to export Israeli natural gas to Europe for the first time, and it is even more impressive when one looks at the string of significant agreements we have signed in the past year, positioning Israel and the Israeli energy and water economy as a key player in the world,” Energy Minister Karine Elharrar said.

Meanwhile, Russia continues to increase its admonishment of Israel in the last few days – inviting its ambassador for rebuke.

With Israel set to replace Russia as Europes greatest gas provider, Putin may have a reason to use the troops stationed in Syria aftervall.

ISRAEL ALLEGEDLY ASSASSINATES TWO IRANIAN SCIENTISTS – WILL IRAN ATTACK BACK?
written by David Mark June 14, 2022 925 views
Ayoub Entezari, 35, and Kamran Aghamolaei, 31, both scientists in the Aerospace division in Iran, died just days apart with a distance of 300km between them. Iran suspects that they were poisoned by Israel.
Reports from Iran say that Entezari fell ill in late May right after going to a dinner organized by a long-term acquaintance in his home town of Yazd, located in central Iran. He was brought to an intensive care unit at a local hospital as his symptoms worsened. Entezari he died on May 31, the New York Times reported.

Iran called Entezari’s death “biological terror.”

Aghamolaei, also fell ill in late May after returning from a business trip to Tabriz, which is located in northern Iran. He reported having ‘intense’ nausea and diarrhea. He was brought to a hospital after his symptoms worsened. He died on June 2nd.

Israel has yet to comment on the attack. While it would be hard for the Mossad to pull off these sorts of attacks, it is not impossible. There have been a string of assassinations in Iran recently. All of them have been allegedly carried out by Israel.

Iran is livid and is looking to find a way to revenge these attacks. Turkey is seen as the weakest point where Israelis go on vacation. As of now Israel is urging all Israelis to leave Turkey as a known Iranian plot to assassinate Israelis has come to light.

Is this the end or just the beginning of Iran’s revenge?

BIDEN REVERSES TRUMP’S RECOGNITION OF JERUSALEM AS ISRAEL’S CAPITAL – REPORT
BY ADAM ELIYAHU BERKOWITZ | JUN 12, 2022 | US-ISRAEL RELATIONS
As for those peoples that warred against Yerushalayim, Hashem will smite them with this plague: Their flesh shall rot away while they stand on their feet; their eyes shall rot away in their sockets; and their tongues shall rot away in their mouths. Zechariah 14:12 (The Israel BibleTM)

Columbia, South Carolina, USA - January 20, 2020: Presidential hopeful Joe Biden (D) speaks to attendees of the the 20th annual "King Day At The Dome" rally held at the S.C. Statehouse (Shutterstock)
A report in the Washington Free Beacon cited sources in the State Department confirming that the Biden administration will move forward with establishing a new Office of Palestinian Affairs in Jerusalem that will act independently of the US ambassador to Israel’s office there. This move goes against the expressed wishes of the Israeli government. Still, the Biden State Department is going even further, opening an official Palestinian consulate in Jerusalem wholly independent of the US embassy in Israel. This consulate will act as a de facto embassy to the Palestinian Authority in Jerusalem, a move that violates international law.

“By establishing an office dedicated to the Palestinian government in the city, the administration is reopening the possibility of allowing that government to assume control of portions of the city,” The Free Beacon wrote, quoting David Milstein. He served as special assistant to former U.S. ambassador to Israel David Friedman.

“Opening a diplomatic office to the Palestinians in Jerusalem after the U.S. recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, making it clear Jerusalem is part of Israel, has the same disastrous consequences as opening a formal consulate,” Milstein told the Free Beacon. “This decision is a blatant effort to unravel the implementation of the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 and circumvent Israel’s clear opposition to a formal consulate, especially since the Biden administration admits this step is part of its plan to open a consulate still.”

The Israeli government strongly opposes the plan saying that it could be understood as de facto approval of a Palestinian capital in Jerusalem and a unilateral move by the Biden administration to implement that aspect of the Two-State Solution without the consent of the Israeli government. Israeli authorities proposed that the US reopen the mission in Ramallah or Abu Dis, but the PA rejected these ideas.

The Jerusalem Embassy Act was passed into law by Congress in October 1995. The Act recognized Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel and called for Jerusalem to remain an undivided city, setting aside funds for the relocation of the embassy in Israel from to be relocated from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem by May 1999. The law allowed the President to invoke a six-month waiver of the application of the law and reissue the waiver every six months on “national security” grounds. Every president did so until President Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in December 2017.

The Free Beacon quoted Sen. Bill Hagerty (R., Tenn.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who said the State Department is circumventing the Israeli government to create “an unofficial U.S. consulate” to the Palestinians, in violation of the law.

“I unequivocally oppose this plan for what appears to be a new unofficial U.S. diplomatic mission in Israel’s capital,” Hagerty said. “This plan is inconsistent with the full and faithful implementation of the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 and suggests that the administration is once again trying to undermine America’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s eternal and undivided capital.”

The purpose behind this move “is to walk back the U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, erode Israel’s sovereignty over its capital city, and signal support for dividing Jerusalem. It is outrageous and shameful,” Milstein said. “Members of Congress should use every tool at their disposal to block implementation of this decision.”

The Palestinian Affairs Department operated independently from the embassy. It served effectively as a diplomatic mission to the Palestinian Authority from inside Jerusalem until President Trump closed that department in 2019 and moved it to the new embassy, placing it under the auspices of the US Ambassador to Israel.

Jason Greenblatt, the former White House envoy to the Middle East, slammed the move.

“By trying to appease the Palestinian leadership with this empty gesture, we hurt our critical ally Israel, and we hurt the United States—we hurt our national security, our diplomatic efforts, and we waste precious U.S. taxpayer money,” he said.

Mark Zell, chairman of Republicans Overseas Israel, explained the move:

“They are careful not to undo the move of the embassy to Jerusalem,” Zell explained. “The embassy act pointedly does not mention a consulate, leaving a loophole that the Biden administration is exploiting. In addition to moving the embassy and recognizing Jerusalem, Trump closed the consulate and put the office of Palestinian Affairs under the Ambassador. And this is what Biden is doing.”

“Closing the embassy in Jerusalem would appease the Palestinians, and the Biden administration may want to do that, but it would probably run afoul of the Embassy Act,” Zell said. “The more interesting question might be if opening the consulate violates international conventions concerning opening international missions without the host country’s consent. I could make this case, but we need someone who has the standing to bring a suit.”

“Part of the problem is that there isn’t really an Israeli government now that could bring a strong objection,” Zell noted.

“The State Department is trying to use a back door loophole to establish a Palestinian consulate in Jerusalem which is something they couldn’t do through the front door by negotiating with the Israeli government,” Zell concluded. “Opening a consulate may not violate the Embassy Act’s explicit conditions, but it is violating the spirit of the law. It is not illegal but hugely disrespectful to Israel. It is certainly not the way you treat an ally.”

“A possible continuation of this would be if the Republicans retake Congress in November, they could pass a law to undo this. Biden would veto it, of course. If it gets bipartisan support, the veto could be overturned, and the consulate closed. It should be remembered that no Democrat attended the embassy opening in Jerusalem. Given the political environment, it is unlikely that a move in Congress to close Biden’s consulate would get any Democratic support.”

HEZBOLLAH PREPARES FOR WAR – IS ISRAEL READY?

For years Israel understood that the failed retreat from Lebanon ordered by then Prime Minister Ehud Barak would lead to open warfare between Hezbollah and Israel.
Israel WARNS Hezbollah About Military Buildup Along Lebanon Border | Watchman Newscast

In 2006 Israel fought a 34-day war against Hezbollah that effectively ended in a stalemate. Hezbollah has since amassed an arsenal of over 100,000 rocket – many of them capable of hitting the whole of Israel. Hezbollah’s fighters have also increased their capabilities after they fought in Syria.

Besides rockets, Hezbollah is planning a ground offensive into Israel. While all known attempts to dig terror tunnels have been caught, Hezbollah is assumed to be busy digging more tunnels.

Hezbollah receives direct funding from Iran to the tune of five million dollars to excavate each tunnel.

We all know Hezbollah is preparing for all out war, but the real question is – is Israel ready?

CONNECTING THE DOTS BETWEEN IRAN AND THE SAUDI-ISRAEL PEACE DEAL
written by David Mark June 12, 2022 2048 views
With all the talk and excitement surrounding the Abraham Accords, Saudi Arabia, the most important Sunni player in the region has yet to make peace with Israel.
The West Asia Post: Secret talks between Saudi & Israel
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOfdLRWHsQM

Israel and Saudi Arabia have had unofficial contact for years, with most visitors being the head of the Mossad. This is because both Saudi Arabia and Israel face a common enemy – Iran. The strategy of those working on peace between the two countries always assumed that the Iranian issue would eventually pull them together, however cooperation on this mutual threat has been accomplished without an overall deal.

The warming ties between the countries are happening because Saudi Arabia has learned from watching Bahrain and the UAE that the “palestinian” issue is no issue at all. In fact, many in the Arab world, who for years detested the “palestinian” narrative are finally seeing their views take root in the mainstream of the Sunni Arab world.

Saudi Arabia knows it must make peace with Israel. After all, the world is a very different world than it was even 10 years ago. The question for the House of Saud is what can they get in return.

Under negotiation as a first step is the return of the Tiran and Sanafir islands in the Red Sea. Saudi Arabia handed them over to Egypt in 1950. Israel then took them after the 1967 war only to return them under the 1979 peace agreement with Egypt. In 2016 Egypt agreed to return them to Saudi Arabia, but needs Israel’s consent to do so.

The islands have become an important symbol of a first potential public agreement between the two countries. If the agreement goes forward it could open up doors to other agreements.

The real issue for the Saudis is public opinion in their country. They have spent a few generations conditioning the public to believe that the royal family is the bulwark against Western culture and the defender of “palestinian” rights. Peace or normalization with Israel undermines one of the foundations their rule is based on.

This is why in recent years the House of Saud has gone out of its way to drip positive editorials in government controlled newspapers. This has started to work. Saudis have started to have a positive view of Israel.

Does this mean peace or normalization is happening now? No, but the moves are positive and the Iranian threat may just be the trigger that pushes all of these other components together.

East Jerusalem’ will forever be capital of Palestine Abbas tells US envoy

‘East Jerusalem’ will forever be capital of Palestine Abbas tells US envoyU.S. Envoy to the Middle East Barbara Leaf and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas (Twitter/U.S. State Department)

In meeting with U.S. official weeks before Biden is expected to visit the region, Abbas says that it is “time for the occupation to leave.”

By Lauren Marcus, World Israel News

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas told a visiting U.S. diplomat that eastern Jerusalem will “forever” remain the capital of the ‘State of Palestine’ on Sunday afternoon.

Abbas, who battled rumors last week that he had passed away, hosted a U.S. delegation led by Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs Barbara Leaf at his Ramallah office.

“Our goal is to get rid of the occupation on the basis of the resolutions of international legitimacy,” Abbas told Leaf, according to a summary of the meeting posted by Palestinian state media outlet Wafa.

“East Jerusalem is and will remain forever the capital of the State of Palestine,” he declared.

He said that the PA is taking steps in the international arena to force Israel into stopping “its criminal and occupying practices of ethnic cleansing and racial discrimination.”

“The current situation is unsustainable and cannot be tolerated in the absence of a political horizon,” the PA president said, Wafa reported.

Referring to Israel, Abbas said that it is “time for the occupation to leave.”

Abbas then repeated his demands that the U.S. remove the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) from its list of international terror groups and that the U.S. Consulate to the Palestinians in eastern Jerusalem be reopened.

President Joe Biden pledged to reopen the consulate as a gesture of goodwill towards the Palestinians after the staunchly pro-Israel Trump years.

However, much to the chagrin of Palestinians, the reopening of the consulate has been repeatedly delayed and appears unlikely to happen. Palestinians are reportedly pressuring Biden for a concrete gesture as a concession for not reopening the consulate.

In late May, the U.S. reportedly promised to take a “series of steps” to strengthen ties with the Palestinian Authority, including appointing Biden administration official Hady Amr to the role of special envoy to the Palestinians and having State Department officials working with the Palestinians report directly to him

Notably, Abbas’ meeting with Leaf comes just weeks before a potential visit from Biden, which has already been delayed once.

Biden was originally supposed to visit Israel and the region in early June, but internal Israeli political upheaval is believed to have caused him to postpone the trip.

American presidents do not visit Israel during election periods, and after a number of coalition crises have rocked the current administration, it seems that Biden is waiting to meet with Israeli and Palestinian officials until the political situation is more stable.

The U.S. State Department said in a statement that Leaf had met with Abbas “to discuss the U.S.-Palestinian relationship, U.S. assistance to Palestinians, deepening ties, and how Palestinians and Israelis alike deserve equal measures of freedom, security, and prosperity.”

The trip is being couched as a presidential effort to help “bring stability to the Middle East.”
By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
U.S. President Joe Biden’s trip to Israel and Saudi Arabia has been scheduled for several days in mid-July, American and Israeli officials have confirmed.

According to a spokesperson for the National Security Council quoted in Axios, regional stability is a prime reason for Biden’s first visit to the region since becoming president a year and a half ago.

“The trip comes in the context of a significant agenda with Saudi Arabia, Israel, and the other countries of the Middle East. That agenda is focused on delivering results for the American people as well as ending wars and leading through diplomacy to bring stability to the Middle East region,” the spokesperson said.

Biden is expected to meet on July 14 with the top echelon of Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, Defense Minister Benny Gantz, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid and President Isaac Herzog. Officials told Ynet that he will also visit the Yad Vashem World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem.

The next day Biden will meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem and visit the Church of the Nativity. A proposed visit to eastern Jerusalem, which stirred controversy in Israel when it was suggested before the June visit that was ultimately postponed, may still be on the table as well.

Biden will then go to Saudi Arabia, where the tentative plan is for him to meet one-on-one with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman in Riyadh.

Such a meeting would be a sharp reversal for Biden, who had entered office demanding a reassessment of the U.S.-Saudi relationship over human rights concerns. He also called the de facto leader of the kingdom a “pariah” for his alleged order to murder a prominent Saudi critic, journalist Jamal Kashoggi, in 2018.

Khashoggi was lured into his country’s embassy in Istanbul, Turkey and killed by a hit squad that included members of the prince’s own protective detail, according to U.S. intelligence.

The prince, known as MBS, denied any role in the embarrassing affair, calling it a “heinous crime,” but he took responsibility for it “as a leader in Saudi Arabia” in a 2019 interview with CBS News’ “60 Minutes” program.

‘Much larger issues than energy’
On Sunday, the president told reporters in Washington that the reason for his trip is that there is going to be “a larger meeting taking place in Saudi Arabia” that “has to do with national security for them — for Israelis…. It has to do with much larger issues than having to do with the energy piece.”

Biden provided no details about the Israeli angle. Previous reports have suggested that the White House is trying to arrange a deal, whereby Jerusalem would agree to an Egyptian return to the Saudis of two islands in the strategic mouth of the Straits of Tiran, which leads into the Red Sea and Israel’s southern tip. According to the Egyptian-Israeli peace accords, Jerusalem must give its consent to such a move.

Considering Riyadh’s desire for the islands’ return, this could be another step toward the normalization of relations between the countries, which Israel craves as an important sign of its acceptance in the Arab Middle East.

According to Axios, the provisional plan is that after he lands in the Kingdom, Biden will also join MBS at a summit with the leaders of Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq, Oman, Qatar and the UAE.

Despite Biden’s denial, it is probable that energy will be on the agenda at some point.

Gas prices have soared in the U.S. as a result of burgeoning sanctions on Russian oil over the country’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. The president has been under pressure to raise local oil production, which he is resisting, due in part to environmental concerns.

Instead, he asked the OPEC+ countries, led by Saudi Arabia, to increase their output, a request that was denied at first.

Earlier this month, the oil-producing nations agreed to a 50% increase over the summer months. The breakthrough was seen as a sign of a thawing relationship between Riyadh and Washington.

The White House has yet to give official confirmation of the trip dates and itinerary.
