Focus on: Illness- disability- Death Empty Re: Focus on: Illness- disability- Death

Post  Admin Tue 10 Feb 2009, 9:37 pm

I have never given much thought to death until just recently, others have spoken to me but it never hit home as much as when a dear friend, actually my ex first husband Bill was taken ill for the second time in a short while.
He is not a Christian even though a lovely man who literally wouldn't hurt a fly. I have naturally prayed for his salvation and secondly his healing.
I had taken some time out myself with the extra phone calls and updates on his health watching more of the TV programmes, and I found myself praying more for myself, when seeing a particular soap programme Casualty. Lord please don't let that happen to me, again Lord don't let that happen to me.
What I realise right now is that on each of those thoughts a fear was trying to grip at me! but I prayed against it.
maybe in a short flare prayer but that is sufficient enough for our God as it is placed into his hands.

How do we pray
do we have to cover every aspect we come across?
Do God need to know our every fears? if we need to cover them all?
Or
Do we need to rest in the assurance that all is in his hands?
Our fears and thoughts..
would be good to explore to hear what others think and their opinions.

Illness- disability- Death
Ecclesiastes 3:1-10
1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: 2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. 9 What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth? 10 I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.

I would like us to open discussion on the above, from a few things that has happened recently.
Some posts online, others in personal PM and my family situations at present.
We go through periods of our life where these things do not cross our mind, and sometimes as we get older and the fact that death has no time limit youth or old age we may ponder on.
It is my hope that this will be a topic with the many thoughts that can come from this scripture, may be a help for others and ourselves in opening our minds to God and his hand in our lives.
