"Jerusalem of Gold" (Hebrew: ירושלים של זהב‎, Yerushalayim Shel Zahav) is a popular Israeli song written by Naomi Shemer in 1967. The original song described the Jewish people's 2000-year longing to return to Jerusalem; Shemer added a final verse after the Six-Day War to celebrate Jerusalem's unification under Israeli control.
At that time, the Old City was under Jordanian rule; Jews had been barred from entering, and many holy sites had been desecrated. Only three weeks after the song was published, the Six-Day War broke out. The song was the battle cry and morale booster of the Israeli troops. Shemer even sang it for them before the war and festival, making them among the first in the world to hear it. On 7 June, the Israel Defense Forces captured the eastern part of Jerusalem and the Old City from the Jordanians. When Shemer heard the paratroopers singing "Jerusalem of Gold" at the Western Wall, she wrote a final verse, reversing the phrases of lamentation found in the second verse. The line about shofars sounding from the Temple Mount is a reference to an event that actually took place on 7 June.

Instead of getting angry at demonstrators who disrupted his lecture, Ambassador Danon praised their democratic right to protest.
Israeli UN ambassador Danny Danon remained unfazed as anti-Israel activists disrupted his lecture at Columbia University.
Rather than becoming angry, he praised the democratic right of students to demonstrate.
Such a protest could never happen at the Islamic University of Gaza, he said, adding that Israel is a beacon of democracy in the Middle East.
Danon, who was elected last June as chair of the United Nation’s Legal Committee, said he was very proud to be the first Israeli to chair a UN committee.

The land, though, is old. Grottoes are shaped by years of pounding from the sea, tumult and trauma you see in the jagged walls and uneven ceilings of their pathways. The same grottoes stood when the pogroms of 1881 and 1906 sent millions to America. The same grottoes stood when the Holocaust of 1939 to 1945 sent most those who didn’t leave to their death. The same grottoes stood when those who survived found in Ben Gurion their hope and in Israel their future.

We walk through the crush, rub shoulders with Jews from Canada, from Ethiopia, from Russia.
We don’t know them, but they’re not strangers.”

Israel is the only country in the world in which the world refuses to recognize their capital. The time has come to reverse this historic mistake and put an end to the sickening discrimination towards the Jewish people.
Since the celebration of the 3,000th anniversary of King David’s declaration of Jerusalem, in 1996, as the capital of the Jews, there’s been no progress in the physical relocation of the US Embassy.

The root of the State Department’s long-standing heavy-handed reluctance to offend Arab populations in the region is a willful ignorance of history and reality. In 1948, president Harry Truman ignored its strong objections and enabled the US to become one of the first countries to recognize Israel.

Even though Israel won all of Jerusalem in the 1967 war, even though no Israeli government nor popular referendum would ever allow another city to be designated its capital, even though the Arab-Palestinian peace process countenances no other place for that purpose – in the view of the State Department, Jerusalem remains no-man’s land.

The issue remains so delicate that the Obama administration went to the Supreme Court to block a law passed by Congress that would allow American parents of children born in Jerusalem to list Israel as their birthplace on their passports. When Obama traveled to Jerusalem in September for the funeral of president Shimon Peres, the White House initially released a transcript of his eulogy as having taken place in “Jerusalem, Israel” – and a few hours later “corrected” it by crossing out the word “Israel.”

The US government is not alone in this delusional semantic preoccupation. The Cable News Network once decided that Jerusalem was no longer in Israel and summarily removed it from the list of cities noted in CNN’s regional daily weather forecasts.

Many geography books leave Israel off the world map, some still insisting that the speck of land surrounded by Arab countries be called “Palestine.”

Such political and bureaucratic bone-headedness flies in the face of modern realities. It’s a wonder that US passports for people born in Israel’s holy city don’t list them as having entered the world in “Occupied Jerusalem.”

There has long been bipartisan support for the Jerusalem Embassy Act. “Non-fulfillment of the law does no good to the US-Israeli relationship or to prospects for Arab-Israel peace,” said senators from both aisles to Clinton.

Meanwhile, the presidential veto of the Act has been ritually repeated every six months for the past 22 years. The results have been spectacularly unsuccessful.

The so-called “Palestinians” were referred to as simply “Arabs” until 1967. The name was created by Palestinian Liberation Organization leader Yasser Arafat under the guidance of Russian propagandists in the KGB.
