A new book for newlyweds distributed by a local gov't and containing ‘pearls of wisdom’ for creating a good marriage is sparking outrage in Turkey.

A book for newlyweds about how to create a successful marriage is creating an outrage in Turkey – both from the central government and from the opposition, reported the UK Daily Express.
The book is being distributed by the municipality of Kutahya, a city 155 miles (250 kilometers) southeast of Istanbul. The city is run by the AK P, the Islamist party of Turkish President Recep Erdogan.

Among other choice pearls of advice, the book says:

Women should “not to talk during sex, because it could lead their child developing a stutter”

“A woman who does not dress for her husband, who is not obedient to her husband being the head of the household, can be beaten”

A woman whose husband is angry with her should "remain quiet and apologize immediately”

A man should hit his wife because “sometimes one or two hits are quite useful, since it acts like medicine”

Htting a woman “reminds” her “who has the say in the house”

If the man beats his wife, she will love him and want him more

Polygamy is good because it “creates competition”

Women should not do “professional work” but rather stay at home

Women should not exercise in sport centers and parks

10- and 12-year-old children can marry each other

Ballet and theater are centers for demons

“A woman who does not dress for her husband, who is not obedient to her husband being the head of the household, can be beaten”

If a woman is “grumpy,” the husband shouldn’t rush to divorce her, since that would “doom another man.” Rather, he should marry a second wife

Speaking for the opposition, the social democratic party CHP (the Republican People’s Party), the party’s deputy head Fatma Kaplan called the book “immoral.”

AKP Education Minister Ismet Yilmaz labelled the book “primitive.”
