If The U.S. Continues To Creep Toward World War 3, Eventually It Is Going To Happen

(Reported By Michael Snyder) After a bit of a lull for the past couple of months, the march toward war appears to be accelerating once again. On Monday the U.S. military shot down yet another Syrian aircraft, and it appears that President Trump’s patience with North Korea’s nuclear program may have run out. Unlike our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the situations in Syria and North Korea both have the potential of sparking a much wider conflict. If we end up in a war with Syria, it is very likely that we will
ultimately be fighting the Russians and the Iranians as well. On the other side of the globe, a war with North Korea could also potentially draw in China. This happened in the first Korean War, and it could easily happen again. It is understandable that the Trump administration wants to be tough with both Syria and North Korea, but we need to be extremely careful about the use of military force because one wrong move could potentially spark World War 3.

North Korean drone photographed US missile defense site

A suspected North Korean drone photographed a U.S. missile defense system in South Korea before it crashed near the border where it was found last week, Seoul’s Defense Ministry said Tuesday.  The finding came four days after North Korea tested new anti-ship missiles in a continuation of weapons launches that have complicated new South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s push to improve ties frayed over the North’s nuclear ambitions.
Meanwhile, South Korea’s military said a North Korean soldier walked across the heavily mined border between the countries and defected to the South. The Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement that the soldier was being questioned about the reasons for his defection. The drone was found in a South Korean border town last Friday and South Korean investigators have discovered hundreds of photos in its Sony-made camera, a Defense Ministry official said, requesting anonymity because of department rules.

Iranian vessel in ‘unsafe’ encounter with U.S. warships…

U.S. officials told CBS News on Wednesday that an Iranian warship had shined a spotlight and laser at an American military helicopter accompanying two U.S. Navy vessels sailing through the strategic Strait of Hormuz during the night. Military sources told CBS News national security correspondent David Martin that the incident was considered by the U.S. Navy to have been “unsafe and unprofessional.”  While Iranian military vessels do occasionally test the patience of U.S.
warships in and near the Strait of Hormuz — a vital international waterway through which nearly a third of all global oil shipments sail — this incident was unusual because the Iranian ship involved was part of the regular Iranian navy, not the elite Revolutionary Guard. The two U.S. ships involved were the USS Cole destroyer and the USS Bataan amphibious assault ship, a vessel designed to carry and deploy smaller vessels and helicopters.

and Democrats for rebuking Russia after U.S. intelligence agencies determined Moscow had deliberately interfered in the presidential campaign. Lawmakers who backed the measure also cited Russia’s aggression in Syria and Ukraine. Despite Russia’s bellicosity, there’s been no forceful response from President Donald Trump. Russia develops cyber-weapon that can disrupt power grids

Hackers allied with the Russian government have devised a cyberweapon that has the potential to be the most disruptive yet against electric systems that Americans depend on for daily life, according to U.S. researchers. The malware, which researchers have dubbed CrashOverride, is known to have disrupted only one energy system — in Ukraine in December. In that incident, the hackers briefly shut down one-fifth of the electric power generated in Kiev.
But with modifications, it could be deployed against U.S. electric transmission and distribution systems to devastating effect, said Sergio Caltagirone, director of threat intelligence for Dragos, a cybersecurity firm that studied the malware and issued a report Monday. And Russian government hackers have shown their interest in targeting U.S. energy and other utility systems, researchers said. “It’s the culmination of over a decade of theory and attack scenarios,” Caltagirone warned. “It’s a game changer.”

North Korea Arrests Senior Citizen for Contacting Christians in China

Authorities in North Korea’s Yanggang province tied with rope, assaulted, dragged and arrested a 61-year-old resident days after he returned from China on charges of spying as he had allegedly contacted his Christian relatives in that country, according to reports. The North Korean citizen, Kim Seung-mo, a resident of the Wiyon area of Hyesan city, was dragged by state security officials in front of Wiyon train station last week, according to Radio Free Asia. Kim was shackled
and tied with rope as he was dragged out from a town behind Wiyon brewery, an anonymous local source was quoted as saying.  It seemed he had been assaulted, as he had split lips and black eyes, and could not walk properly, the source said. Kim used to work at the Wiyon substation in the electricity department there. He retired in March. “After he came back from China, he openly told his neighbors that his relatives attended a Christian church, and the church’s pastor collected many used clothes from parishioners for him,”

Nearly Half of Iraqi and Syrian Christians Have Fled Middle East Since 2011

Iran sends warships to Oman amid Gulf tensions

The Iranian Navy has dispatched a flotilla on a mission to Oman, local media report, and will enter international waters.On Sunday, the 47th flotilla, comprised of an Alborz destroyer and Bushehr logistic warship, set sail from the southern port city of Bandar Abbas after a ceremony attended by naval commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, Tasnim News reports. From Oman, the ships will head to the Gulf of Aden and international waters north of the Indian
Ocean.  At the same time, the 46th flotilla made up of a Sabalan destroyer and Lavan logistic warship, is due to return to Iran on Sunday after completing a two-month mission to secure naval routes and protect merchant vessels and oil tankers in the Gulf of Aden. The Iranian Navy has been conducting patrols of the region since November 2008 as part of international anti-piracy efforts.  “Today, there is some controlled insecurity in the Gulf of Aden and we have been able to escort over 4,000 oil tankers and cargo ships to the safe regions without any disruption in our plans for oil and non-oil exports and imports,” Admiral Sayyari told Fars News Agency on Sunday.

The recent diplomatic fracture among some of the biggest Arab nations is so “dramatic,” it could spiral into a war, Germany’s foreign minister has warned in an interview with local media. Sigmar Gabriel described the ongoing crisis in the Arab world as being “dramatic,” while speaking exclusively to the Frankfurter Allgemeinen Sonntagszeitung.  The isolation of Doha by such key players as Saudi Arabia and its allies present “a danger that this conflict could become a
war,” Gabriel, who is also Germany’s vice-chancellor, warned.  However, citing his “personal talks” with officials from several states, including Saudi Arabia and Turkey, as well as with counterparts from Iran and Kuwait, Gabriel said that although “the situation is serious,” he believes “there are good chances to go ahead” in trying to prevent further escalation. DEVELOPING: North Korea gearing up to test newest nuclear missile

North Korea may be close to testing its newest intercontinental ballistic missile, state media suggested. In recent months, North Korea has been testing a variety of nuclear missiles at an unprecedented pace.  Four new systems have been tested over the past few weeks, including reliable short and mid-range ballistic missiles. Its new intermediate-range ballistic missile could comfortably hit Guam and the hermit state also has successfully tested new anti-ship cruise missiles.
But it seems Kim Jong-Un’s next step is the development of an ICBM.  An editorial in state paper Rodong Sinmun said: “The series of recent strategic weapons tests show that we are not too far away from test-firing an intercontinental ballistic missile.” The shock claim indicates the regime has continued to advance its missile technology since it despot leader confirmed during his annual address that the state was in the final stage of developing the technology.

North Korea Dreams of Turning Out the Lights for America!

China is creating a gigantic warship unlike anything the world has ever seen

The Chinese government is reportedly working to develop a revolutionary new warship that would merge the size and strength of large conventional ships with the ability to submerge underwater.  In an article for Popular Science, Jeffrey Lin and P.W. Singer wrote there are reports “circulating on Chinese websites—including the Wuhan city government site—
mention that Chinese institutions are conducting studies on gigantic submersible arsenal ships.”According to Lin and Singer, there are two different concepts being developed. One is for a large, high-speed warship with a mostly-submerged hull. The second is for a warship that would be almost completely submerged. A veteran Russian politician has suggested that Moscow could resort to nuclear arms to defend the nation if forces led by the U.S. or NATO moved against the Crimean Peninsula or eastern Ukraine.  Vyacheslav Alekseyevich Nikonov, a member of Russia’s lower house of parliament and a political scientist involved with Russian politics since the 1970s, told attendees of the 2017 GLOBSEC Bratislava Global Security Forum in Slovakia on Sunday that Russian forces would need to utilize
some form of nuclear warfare to deter U.S. or NATO forces from invading Russia should they decide to enter Crimea or eastern Ukraine. Russia annexed Crimea during a 2014 political upheaval in Ukraine, claiming the unrest threatened Moscow’s interests and the large ethnic Russian community in Crimea. Since then, Russia’s control of Crimea and support for separatist militants in neighboring eastern Ukraine have angered Washington and its NATO allies.

Japan Holds Evacuation Drill Amid Tension From North Korea

A town in western Japan conducted an evacuation drill Sunday amid rising fear that a North Korean ballistic missile could hit Japanese soil.  More than 280 residents and schoolchildren from Abu, a small town with a population of just over 3,400 on Japan’s northwestern coast, rushed to designated school buildings to seek shelter after sirens from loudspeakers
warned them of a possible missile flight and debris falling on them.  The drill follows three consecutive weeks of North Korean missile tests. Last week, a missile splashed into the sea inside Japan’s 200-mile exclusive economic zone off the country’s western coast.

Russia says North Korea’s nukes are a ‘direct threat’

A top Russian official said Sunday at a security conference in Singapore that North Korea’s nuclear ambitions are a “direct threat to Russia.”  Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin told defense ministers and experts from 39 countries that Pyongyang’s missile defense system “has a real function.” “That is why it is alarming. And it is direct threat
to Russia. We are convinced that it will increase the tensions of the region. That is our principle position,” he said. Japanese and US militaries launch major joint drills amid growing N. Korea tensions

The Japanese and US militaries have teamed up for a three-day exercise in the Sea of Japan, in a show of force just days after North Korea launched a ballistic missile which landed in Japan’s exclusive economic zone. The ‘USS Carl Vinson’ and ‘USS Ronald Reagan’ strike groups have joined Japanese destroyers ‘Hyuga’ and ‘Ashigara’ for the exercise. In a post on its Facebook page, the US 7th Fleet described the drills as “routine training.” “The Ronald Reagan and Carl Vinson Strike
Groups were joined by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Forces (JMSDF) for routine training to improve interoperability and readiness in the Indo-Asia Pacific,” it wrote.  The Japanese military confirmed in a release that its destroyers had joined the US vessels, according to Reuters.  “It’s the first time we have exercised with two carriers. It’s a major exercise for us,” a Japanese military spokesman said, according to the news outlet. Russian frigate & submarine fire 4 cruise missiles at ISIS targets near Palmyra

The missiles destroyed heavy equipment and killed fighters that Islamic State had transferred from its stronghold, Raqqa, to Palmyra, the Russian Defense Ministry has said.  The Russian warships, a frigate named Admiral Essen and submarine named Krasnodar, fired Kalibr cruise missiles on combat vehicles and militants outside the Syrian city of Palmyra, the Defense Ministry said.   The four cruise missiles were fired from the eastern Mediterranean, it noted in a statement. The
submarine fired its missiles while submerged.  According to the MoD, “[the ships] targeted an area east of Palmyra, where the militants’ heavy weaponry and manpower were located. The militants moved there from Raqqa. All targets have been destroyed,” it said.  The US, Turkish, and Israeli militaries received an appropriate warning in advance of the missile launches through active hotlines, the Defense Ministry added.

For the first time in nearly three years, the ground-based missile defense system will attempt to hit a mock target during a test involving a launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base.  The Missile Defense Agency plans to conduct the test Tuesday, with the ground-based interceptor blasting out of an underground silo at Vandenberg between noon and 4:14 p.m. in an attempt to intercept the target, which is set to lift off from the Kwajalein Atoll.  The intended collision will occur somewhere above the Pacific Ocean and will not be visible from the Central Coast.
The test involves the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense Segment, designed for a limited attack against the United States involving intermediate- and long-range ballistic missiles fired by rogue nations such as North Korea or Iran. The system includes communication networks and sensors to support the ground-based interceptors sitting on alert at Vandenberg and Fort Greely, Alaska.

Preparing for War? Russia to upgrade rocket artillery by 2020 as tensions with NATO rise

Russia has revealed it will upgrade its rocket artillery brigades by 2020 as tensions with NATO increase. The announcement was made by Russian Missile Troops and Artillery commander General Mikhail Matveyevsky who said Moscow’s Tornado-S multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) will be replaced with the Smerch systems.
He said: “The rearmament of all missile brigades to modern Iskander-M missile systems and rocket artillery brigades to large-calibre Tornado-S multiple launch rocket systems will be completed.” The new Tornado-S system is a lighter version of Smerch and easier to mobilise but there is a slight reduction of firepower. The new system also uses the same GLONASS satellite navigation system.

Arctic air base gets $40 million upgrade in face of increasing missile threats

The move is partly a response to North Korea, which has test-launched three missiles in the past three weeks. Israel conducts ‘experimental’ rocket test over heart of the country

The Defense Ministry said Monday that it conducted a successful experimental test of its rocket propulsion system from a military base located in the center of Israel.  Images shared on social media showed a projectile streaking through the sky. Israel has a multi-layered aerial defense system, which includes the Iron Dome, Arrow and David’s Sling, and missile system tests such as these are not uncommon. Rocket propulsion systems are designed to launch large systems such as

satellites, ballistic missiles and large ground to air missiles. The launching, conducted in the early morning hours, was planned in advance and carried out as planned. There was no comment on whether or not the test was successful nor what system was tested but some speculated that it may be the surface-to-surface Jericho 3, an intercontinental ballistic missile which according to foreign reports can support a nuclear payload.

Hawaii finalizing plans to defend population from nuclear strike and radiation aftermath.

Hawaii is drawing up plans to protect its population from a North Korean nuclear strike and its radiated aftermath. Officials have produced a doomsday survival blueprint which reveals how seriously they are taking threats from tyrant Kim Jong-un about striking the US.  The nuclear contingency plans are described as “formidable and critical to the survival of our 1.4 million residents and visitors in the unlikely event of a nuclear detonation”.  This includes “reviewing

Israel preparing partial evacuation in case of war with Lebanon

A senior Israeli military official told The Media Line that Israel has prepared a partial evacuation plan for areas close to the border with Lebanon in case of a renewed round of fighting with pro-Iranian Hezbollah guerrillas. Pentagon Chief Warns that War with North Korea would be ‘catastrophic’

Defense Secretary James Mattis warned on Sunday that a war with North Korea would be “catastrophic,” and would place United States allies in the region at extreme risk.  “The North Korean regime has hundreds of artillery cannons and rocket launchers within range of one of the most densely populated cities on earth, which is the capital of South Korea,” Mattis said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”  “This regime is a threat to the region, to Japan, to South Korea. And in the event of war, they would bring danger to China and to Russia as well,” he added.
“But the bottom line is it would be a catastrophic war if this turns into a combat if we’re not able to resolve this situation through diplomatic means.” Tensions rose between Washington and Pyongyang last month over the North’s rapidly advancing nuclear and missile programs, prompting the U.S. to move a Navy strike group into the west Pacific near the Korean Peninsula. North Korea Fires short-range ballistic missile flies 450 km, lands in Sea of Japan

North Korea has launched an unidentified projectile which appears to be a short-range ballistic missile, Yonhap news reports, citing South Korea’s military.  South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said Pyongyang launched a projectile in the eastern direction from Wonsan, Gangwon Province at dawn.  “It is estimated to be a Scud type [missile],” JCS said, adding, that the projectile flew about 450 kilometers.
“The president was immediately notified of the situation, and the president ordered the NSC Standing Committee at 7:30 am,” the military statement said. The missile was tracked for six minutes, US Pacific Command said, confirming that the projectile landed in the Sea of Japan. The US military said the missile did not pose a threat to North America. US President Donald Trump has also been briefed about the launch, according to a White House official.

RAF fighter jets scrambled to Scotland as Russian aircraft approach UK airspace

RAF fighter jets were scrambled to the north of Scotland this morning after Russian aircraft entered UK airspace, the MOD has confirmed.  Royal Air Force Typhoons took off from the Lossiemouth airbase, north east Scotland, on a Quick Alert Response (QRA).  An RAF Airbus Voyager KC3 tanker was also scrambled from Brize Norton airbase in Oxfordshire. The Quick Reaction Alert, or QRA, is the RAF’s state of readiness where fighter jets can be scrambled within minutes to
meet or intercept aircraft which give cause for concern.  A statement by the Ministry of Defence said: “Two Typhoons were scrambled from RAF Lossiemouth this morning as part of the RAF’s Quick Reaction Alert in response to two Russian aircraft entering the UK’s airspace.  “Both aircraft have now returned safely to RAF Lossiemouth.”  An MoD spokesman said the Russian jets did not actually enter UK airspace, but had travelled into an “area of interest” very close by.

Russia warns citizens against travelling to Britain in fears of more terrorism

Chinese jets come within several hundred feet of US plane over South China Sea

Two Chinese J-10 fighter jets came within several hundred feet of a U.S. Navy P-3 Orion over the South China Sea on Thursday local time, U.S. officials said.  The fighters flew 200 yards in front of the P-3 maritime surveillance aircraft with an altitude separation of 100 feet, an encounter the commander of the U.S. aircraft determined as “unsafe and unprofessional,” U.S. officials said.
According to a U.S. official, the Chinese jets were weaving ahead of the American plane, an action that concerned the U.S. pilot.  The activity occurred 150 miles southeast of Hainan Island in the northern part of the South China Sea. A U.S. official said the U.S. plans to address the incident with China through diplomatic and military channels.

US Plans First Test Of ICBM Intercept as Tensions Rise with North Korea

Preparing for North Korea’s growing threat, the Pentagon will try to shoot down an intercontinental-range missile for the first time in a test next week. The goal is to more closely simulate a North Korean ICBM aimed at the U.S. homeland, officials said Friday . The American interceptor has a spotty track record, succeeding in nine of 17 attempts since 1999.
The most recent test, in June 2014, was a success, but that followed three straight failures. The system has evolved from the multibillion-dollar effort triggered by President Ronald Reagan’s 1983 push for a “Star Wars” solution to ballistic missile threats during the Cold War – when the Soviet Union was the only major worry.North Korea is now the focus of U.S. efforts because its leader, Kim Jong Un, has vowed to field a nuclear-armed missile capable of reaching American territory.

North Korean Nuclear Threat ‘Inevitable’ if left Unchecked

North Korea will eventually obtain a nuclear weapon capable of hitting the United States if left unchecked, a top US intelligence official said.  “If left on its current trajectory, the regime will ultimately succeed in fielding a nuclear-armed missile capable of threatening the United States homeland,” said Lt. Gen. Vincent Stewart, the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency. “While nearly impossible to predict when this capability will be operational, the North Korean regime
is committed and is on a pathway where this capability is inevitable.”  The only hurdle left, Stewart said in a hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday, is finding a way for its ballistic missile to re-enter the atmosphere. Perfecting re-entry is “really a matter of enough trial and error to make that work,” Stewart said. “They understand the physics, so it’s just a matter of design.”

RUMORS OF WAR: US attack on North Korea imminent?

The US is preparing to attack North Korea, according to Geopolitical Futures founder George Friedman — setting the stage for a difficult, messy war with potentially catastrophic consequences.  Speaking Monday to a rapt audience at the 2017 Strategic Investment Conference in Orlando, Friedman said that while it was unlikely the US would take action

New ISIS video shows Las Vegas landmarks

Following the Manchester bombing, a new video has been released by ISIS that calls for even more attacks and Las Vegas could be a target.  In the propaganda video, some famous landmarks in Las Vegas can be seen – such as hotels and casinos – making the city a potential target of terror.  Terrorism expert Christopher Caruthers told KVVU-TV that the people of Las Vegas should still feel safe, because he believes the video is just a scare tactic.  The Las Vegas division of the FBI agreed with Caruthers and released a statement.  “The FBI Routinely shares information with our state, local, & federal law enforcement, intelligence and homeland security partners in order to keep our citizens safe,” the statement said.

Philippines President Duterte declares martial law on Mindanao island

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has declared martial law for 60 days on the island of Mindanao, after clashes between the army and militants linked to so-called Islamic State (IS).  The violence on the southern island left three members of the security forces dead, officials say.  Mindanao is home to a number of Muslim rebel groups seeking more
autonomy.  Mr Duterte made the announcement during a visit to Russia, which he was forced to cut short.  Martial law allows the use of the military to enforce law and the detention of people without charge for long periods. During his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Mr Duterte also said the Philippines needed more modern weapons to fight IS militants and other militant groups.

China flexes muscle in spy games against US

It is a graphic reminder of a struggle usually waged in the shadows, and a sign of the Chinese government’s intensifying campaign against espionage.  The poster’s comic book tale of love gone wrong ends in tears and a stern warning.
But China’s real life spy games have had a darker denouement, according to a New York Times article Sunday alleging that authorities killed or jailed up to 20 people for spying on behalf of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The counterintelligence operation took place between the end of 2010 and 2012, the Times said, an exceptionally sensitive period in Chinese domestic politics that saw the downfall of some of the country’s most prominent politicians amid a delicate leadership transition.

South Korean troops fired warning shots at an “unidentified object” flying across the heavily fortified border from North Korea Tuesday afternoon, the South’s military announced.  The military detected the object traversing the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) southward in the Chorwon area in the eastern province of Gangwon at around 4 p.m., according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).
It added the South’s military fired warning shots along with dispatching a warning broadcast. A defense source said the military fired more than 90 K-3 machine gun rounds, adding it may have been a drone. The South’s military is analyzing the object and its route and has beefed up its air defense posture, said the JCS. The incident added to already-high tensions between the Koreas following the North’s continued ballistic missile launches.

North Korea attack drones carrying biological, chemical weapons can strike Seoul within 1 hour

North Korea’s military has 300 to 400 attack drones capable of carrying biological and chemical weapons that could reach the South Korean capital of Seoul within one hour, according to a high-level defector from the isolated regime ruling Pyongyang.  The claim from a 42-year-old former third secretary who fled Kim Jong-un’s regime in 2015 coincides with heightened international concern over a different threat from North Korea: mobile, medium- to long-range missiles that Pyongyang has tested with increasing frequency.
After successfully launching one of the solid-fuel missiles Sunday, North Korean leaders said they are ready to begin deploying and mass-producing the Pukgukson-2 projectiles, which Pyongyang says are capable of reaching major U.S. military bases in Japan.  The Sunday launch was the latest of more than 70 North Korean missile tests since 2009, resulting in a U.S. and regional focus on countering the ballistic missiles.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has approved the deployment of a new intermediate-range ballistic missile for combat use as the country succeeded in test-firing it, Pyongyang’s state media said Monday.  North Korea’s leader observed the launch of the new ground-to-ground Pukguksong-2 missile, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
North Korea fired the missile from the vicinity of Pukchang in the country’s western province on Sunday, a week after it test-fired another new intermediate-range ballistic missile, called the Hwasong-12.  The North’s leader approved the deployment of the Pukguksong-2 for action, calling it a “successful strategic weapon,” the KCNA said.

North Korea missile passes re-entry test in breakthrough for nuclear program

The ballistic missile launched by North Korea on May 14 successfully re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere, according to analysts, a significant breakthrough for Pyongyang’s missile program.  Defence officials in South Korea and the US have confirmed that the launch of the liquid- fuel Hwasong-12 was a success.  North Korea claimed that the weapon reached an
altitude of 2,111.5 km (1,312 miles) and traveled a distance of 489 miles before breaching Japan’s Air Defence Identification Zone and splashing down in the Sea of Japan.The missile took a steep parabolic route that tested its ability to survive re-entry into the atmosphere, with North Korean state media reporting that the missile – capable of carrying a “large-size, heavy nuclear warhead” to a target on the US mainland – had come through “the worst re-entry situation” and struck its intended target.

Authorities have not received any reports of damage on ships or planes, Suga said. A White House official said the projectile was a medium-range ballistic missile, a system that North Korea tested in February.
