Earthquake with magnitude of 6.8 strikes off the coast of Chile
(ABC) – An earthquake measuring a magnitude of 6.8 has been detected off the coast of Chile, according to officials with the U.S. Geological Survey. Chile’s National Office of Emergency says the quake will not

cause a tsunami to strike the country. The quake, with a depth of 9.8 km (6.09 miles), was initially detected as a magnitude 6.6 and is now listed as a 6.8, the USGS said.

(Mirror) – A 6.5-magnitude earthquake has struck off Seram island in Indonesia. Seram, in Maluku, is east of Indonesia’s Sulawesi island, which was badly damaged by an earthquake and tsunami last year. The two natural disasters combined killed 4,340 people, the Jakarta Post reports. The latest earthquake hit at a depth of 29.9km to the south-west of Seram, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Indonesian authorities said the tremor measured 6.8 on the Richter scale.

(WITI) – The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude 6.1 earthquake has shaken southern Chile, though local disaster officials have not reported any damage or injuries. The quake occurred at 1:36 p.m. (1636 GMT)

in Entre Lagos, some 610 miles (980 kilometers) south of the capital, Santiago. The Survey says it was centered 129 kilometers (80 miles) below the surface. It was felt in nearby cities such as Osorno, Temuco, Puerto Montt and Ancud.

With back-to-back earthquakes having recently hit California, it’s important to be prepared. Here are the best ways to prepare for when the next earthquake hits, according to experts.

Cars were crushed by bricks falling from buildings in Albania's capital Tirana, as the country was stuck by a pair of strong earthquakes on Saturday.

According to the Ministry of Health, 68 people have been hospitalized with injuries. The majority of injuries occurred in Durres and Tirana. There have been no reported deaths.

According to the United State Geological Survey (USGS), the first earthquake struck at 4:04 p.m., on Saturday near Durres, about 18 miles (29 km) to the west of Tirana.

A second earthquake struck just 11 minutes later a short distance away.

The first and larger earthquake was reported as a magnitude 5.6 on the Richter Scale, which is Albania's strongest earthquake in 30 years. The second was measured to be slightly weaker at 5.1.

Buildings were damaged in the town of Durres which is close to the epicenter.

DEVELOPING: Hurricane Humberto now Category 3, Bermuda braces for storm conditions
(MSN) – Hurricane Humberto strengthened into a Category 3 storm Tuesday evening, and while Bermuda is just outside the cone of uncertainty, island residents should expect hurricane conditions late Wednesday, the National Hurricane Center said in its 11 p.m. update. The storm is moving east-northeast at about 12 mph with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph and higher gusts, the center said. It’s expected to continue moving northeast through Friday, with the eye expected to past “just to the northwest and north of Bermuda Wednesday night.”

“Some fluctuations in intensity are likely during the next day or so, but Humberto should remain a powerful hurricane through Thursday,” the center added.

The three original disturbances were announced Sunday and the fourth was announced Monday. It battered in the Bahamas, and now Hurricane Dorian is heading toward the U.S. mainland.

As of 8 a.m. EDT Monday, the Category 5 storm was about 120 miles east of West Palm Beach, according to Fox News.

While Dorian’s course was still unpredictable, preparations were well underway on the Atlantic coast.
Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas are all still in the potential path.

“No matter what path this storm takes, our state will be impacted,” Jared Moskowitz, director of Florida’s Department of Emergency Management, said, according to Fox News.

“We will continue to work around the clock to prepare,” he said.
According to a National Hurricane Service forecast early Monday, Fox reported, Dorian was expected to make “slow westward to west-northwestward motion” over the next day or so, followed by a “gradual turn toward the northwest and north.

“On this track, the core of extremely dangerous Hurricane Dorian will continue to pound Grand Bahama Island through much of today and tonight,” it added.
“The hurricane will move dangerously close to the Florida east coast tonight through Wednesday evening.”

And there’s no doubting just how dangerous Dorian is — it’s the strongest storm that’s ever threatened Florida’s east coast, according to Fox.
“At one point, Dorian’s maximum sustained winds reached 185 mph, with gusts up to 220 mph, tying the record for the most powerful Atlantic hurricane to ever make landfall,” Fox reported.
That equaled the Labor Day hurricane of 1935, before storms were named.

“It’s devastating,” Joy Jibrilu, director general of the Bahamas’ Ministry of Tourism and Aviation, said Sunday afternoon, according to The Associated Press. “There has been huge damage to property and infrastructure. Luckily, no loss of life reported.”

However, CNN reported Monday morning that a young boy might have been a victim of the hurricane.

A grandmother told Bahamas news outlets that her daughter had found the body of her son, who apparently had drowned, but CNN had not confirmed that report.

(TWC) – A hurricane warning has been issued for a portion of Florida’s east coast as Dorian crawls over the northwestern Bahamas as a Category 5. The dangerous hurricane is still a threat to Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and southeastern Virginia. Dorian made its first landfall on Elbow Cay, in the Abacos of the northwestern Bahamas, at 12:40 p.m. EDT Sunday. It then made a second landfall on Great Abaco Island near Marsh Harbour at 2 p.m.

(MSN) – The Alaska Earthquake Center reports that a magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit southern Alaska. It was felt by people in the state’s capital. Juneau. The center says the earthquake hit at 8:32 p.m. Saturday and had an epicenter 43 miles (70 kilometers) west of Klukwan, a village of about 95 people. The earthquake had a depth of less than a mile (about 1 kilometer.)

Several Juneau residents reported on social media that they felt the quake.

Hurricane Dorian strengthens to a catastrophic Category 5, 160 MPH winds takes aim at Bahamas
(SS) – Hurricane Dorian strengthened unexpectedly to Category 5 force Sunday morning, with top sustained winds of 160 miles per hour, the National Hurricane Center said in an 8 a.m. update. An Air Force Hurricane Hunter airplane penetrated the storm’s eye and found winds had reached a “catastrophic” speed of 160 mph, with higher gusts, as the storm’s core approached the Abacos islands of the Bahamas, the hurricane center said.

The hurricane’s predicted path moved slightly toward Florida Sunday morning, putting parts of South Florida back within the danger zone for possible landfall.

The Hurricane Hunters are flying through Dorian, and have found maximum sustained winds have climbed to 130 mph, making Dorian a Category 4 hurricane. Pressure has also dropped down to 950 mb, which is a 20 mb drop from the 5 pm advisory.

Florida braces for impact as Hurricane Dorian nears
(Fox News) – Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands were breathing a huge sigh of relief Wednesday night as Hurricane Dorian swung away from them, resulting in far less damage than had been feared. But whether Florida will have similar luck remained doubtful, according to forecasters, who predict Dorian could hit the state hard — possibly at Category 3 strength. If the storm’s current track holds, Dorian could be “the strongest hurricane to hit Central Florida in over 30 years,” said Glenn Richards, a meteorologist for FOX 35 in Orlando.

As of 2 p.m., Hurricane Dorian was directly over St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands with 75 mph winds, according to the National Hurricane Center. (AP) — Six people were injured Saturday when lightning struck a 60-foot pine at the Tour Championship where they were taking cover from rain and showered them with debris, Atlanta police said. The third round of the season-ending PGA Tour event had been suspended for about 30 minutes because of storms in the area, and fans were instructed to seek shelter. The strike hit the top of the tree just off the 16th tee and shattered the bark all the way to the bottom.
