North Korea has responded to US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley’s recent comments with some vitriol of their own.
On Friday, North Korea made a statement calling Haley a “political prostitute” who was “crazily swishing her skirt” after she stated that the Kim regime was “begging for war.” Haley made her statements shortly after the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea (DPRK) conducted their sixth nuclear test, According to CNBC.
Earlier this week, the DPRK claimed that, after their test, they now officially possess the ability to create a hydrogen bomb that could fit onto an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). The bomb that was tested was estimated to be the equivalent of 120 kilotons of TNT. To provide some context, the stronger of the two bombs that were used against Japan during World War II were equal to 20 kilotons of TNT.
North Korea also stated on the state-run Korean Central News Agency that, “Nikki should be careful with her tongue though she might be a blind fool,” they said. “The US administration will have to pay a dear price for her tongue-lashing.”
They also mocked Ambassador Haley for her call for more sanctions on the rogue regime. According to Fox News, KCNA’s statements were made while the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan began traveling to the Western Pacific on a patrol mission. The ship was already scheduled to embark on the mission after undergoing routine maintenance.
South Korea is paying close attention to North Korea because Pyongyang might test-launch another ICBM soon. On Thursday, President Donald Trump addressed North Korea’s latest nuclear test by stating that it would be “a very sad day for North Korea” if the US has to use military force against Pyongyang for their continued nuclear ambitions. He also said “I would prefer not going the route of the military, but it’s something, certainly, that could happen.”
It certainly seems that military action against North Korea is a growing possibility. In June, the Ronald Reagan and the USS Carl Vinson traveled to the Sea of Japan to conduct joint drills with Japan’s Self Defense Forces, and the South Korean military.

The United States will continue to leverage its naval power to counter any potential threats from the rogue regime. It is important that we have destroyers in the area that could shoot down missiles launched by Pyongyang, if they decide to take offensive action.
The situation with North Korea has not shown any signs of calming down — indeed, with Kim Jong-un’s continued displays of military strength, tensions are on the rise. Since the beginning of the year, Pyongyang has conducted several missile tests. With each test, Kim Jong-un gets closer to obtaining the capability to strike the US with a nuclear weapon.
While the motivations of the regime are not completely clear, it is obvious that they wish to establish a form of diplomatic dominance over the west. If the regime is allowed to achieve their nuclear goals, it will give them tremendous power in the region and will make it far more difficult for the international community to intervene if North Korea decides to attack South Korea. The real question is: how long is the West willing to wait before they decide to stop Kim Jong-un?
