CUP OF TREMBLING: Mideast unraveling as Jerusalem prepares for embassy dedication on 70th Anniversary

CUP OF TREMBLING: Mideast unraveling as Jerusalem prepares for embassy dedication on 70th Anniversary
As the World is watching history being made in Israel it is apparent that we are now seeing what the Prophet Zechariah spoke of when he foretold that Jerusalem would become a “Cup of trembling” to all the Nations around the World. It appears that the powder keg may have been lit in the Mideast:
Many See Nightmare Taking Shape…  When Israel declared its independence in 1948, President Harry Truman rushed to recognize it. He took just 11 minutes, and Israelis, about to go to war to defend their infant state, were euphoric.  Seventy years to the day — and nearly as long since Israel declared the holy city of Jerusalem its “eternal capital” — the United States will formally open its embassy on a hilltop here two miles south of the Western Wall. The embassy’s move from Tel Aviv and President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital — reversing decades of American foreign policy — comes at a moment so fraught with both pride and peril that Israelis seem not to know what to feel.

Arab league to meet over ‘illegal’ move…  The Arab League will hold an extraordinary meeting to discuss the United State’s “illegal” move of embassy to Jerusalem, state news agency MENA reported on Monday, citing an Arab diplomat.  MENA said the meeting will be held on Wednesday at the level of permanent representatives to the Arab League “to counter the illegal decision taken by the United States of America to transfer its embassy to Jerusalem”. Washington is due to officially move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on Monday in a move that has delighted Israel but infuriated Palestinians.

Iran urges global resistance…  Iran denounced President Donald Trump as “feeble-minded” over Monday’s controversial move of the US embassy to Jerusalem, and called for resistance from the Palestinians and the international community. “America has entered a crisis of strategic decision-making that looks at the international arena immaturely and adventurously,” said parliament speaker Ali Larijani, a key establishment figure, at a conference on the Palestinian situation in Tehran.

Yemen Fires Missile at Saudi Oil Facility…  Yemen’s armed Houthi movement launched a missile at a distribution centre belonging to oil giant Saudi Aramco in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern Jizan province on Monday, the group’s al-Masirah TV reported. The Houthis, an Iran-allied group that holds much of Yemen including the capital Sanaa, have fired a series of missiles into the kingdom in recent months, part of a three-year-old conflict in Yemen widely seen as a proxy battle between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Al-Qaeda leader calls for jihad…  Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri on Sunday urged Muslims carry out jihad against the United States.  Ayman al-Zawahiri said America’s decision to shift its Israeli embassy to Jerusalem was evidence that negotiations and “appeasement” have failed Palestinians. In a five-minute video entitled “Tel Aviv is Also a Land of Muslims,” the Egyptian doctor who took charge of the global terror group after its founder Osama bin Laden was killed in 2011 referred to the Palestinian Authority as the “sellers of Palestine” while urging followers to take up arms. US President Donald Trump “was clear and explicit, and he revealed the true face of the modern Crusade, where standing down and appeasement does not work with them.

Violence erupts along Gaza-Israel border ahead of US embassy inauguration …  Clashes erupted along the Gaza Strip’s border with Israel on Monday between Palestinians and Israeli forces ahead of the controversial inauguration of the US embassy in Jerusalem, AFP journalists reported. Gaza’s health ministry said 12 Palestinians were wounded. Several thousand had gathered near the border, while smaller numbers of stone-throwing Palestinians were approaching the fence and seeking to damage it, with Israeli snipers positioned on the other side.

The man picked to lead a prayer at Donald Trump's much-vaunted opening of the US Embassy in Jerusalem, is a militant Baptist preacher, known, among other things, for calling Islam's Prophet Muhammad "a bloodthirsty warlord."

As if Monday's relocation of the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem needed more controversy, the priest picked to lead a prayer at the unveiling ceremony is Dr. Robert Jeffress, a megachurch Baptist preacher from Dallas and long-time supporter of Donald Trump. Jeffress, who is also a Fox News contributor, announced that he was picked for the occasion in an recent interview with Fox&Friends.

Jeffress has quite the track record of extreme religious intolerance and is known for labeling just about any religion other than his own as heresy. While the pastor has targeted almost every religion, the most scathing of his numerous attacks have taken aim at Islam. Arguing that Islam as a religion is inherently violent, Jeffress said during one TV debate that prophet Muhammad "was nothing but a bloodthirsty warlord who beheaded 600 Jews who would not follow him into battle."

"Jesus, the founder of our faith, didn't kill anybody. He was crucified, but you look in the Quran, you can find 35 sword verses," he told an imam during a debate hosted by Fox News in 2016.

During a sermon at a First Baptist Church in 2015 in the wake of the Paris terror attacks, the pastor said that the time had come to "lay aside political correctness and identify the belief system that is responsible for these horrific acts. And that is the evil, evil, evil religion of radical Islam." Jeffress continued his tirade before ultimately saying Islam was a " false religion inspired by Satan himself."

Non-Baptist Christian denominations haven't escaped Jeffress' castigations either. He once compared the Catholic Church to a "cult" which was the result of the "corruption" of an early Christian church by "a Babylonian mystery religion." He attributed its rise to none other than "the genius of Satan."

His apparent grudge against Catholics forced White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders to defend Jeffress after she was asked as to why a "viciously anti-Catholic" pastor's book gets an endorsement from President Trump.

Trump used his Twitter handle last October to promote a new book by Jeffress, calling him "a wonderful man."

Jeffress, who was involved with Trump campaign since 2015, has been a part of Trump's inner circle and addressed his family in private just before the inauguration.

The pastor's less than favorable views of the Mormon religion have also been widely publicized. Opposing Mitt Romney's nomination, Jeffress said in 2011 that he sees Mormonism as a "theological cult," and not a real religion, as he was rallying behind governor Rick Perry during 2012 presidential race.

He also complained about how the "consumer mentality of the church" betrays its core beliefs for the sake of luring more people. The pastor argued that if one abides by the Bible, "every other religion in the world is wrong" – including Judaism.

"Islam is wrong, it is a heresy from the pit of Hell; Mormonism is wrong, it is a heresy from the pit of Hell; Judaism, you can't be saved being a Jew, you know who said that by the way, the three greatest Jews in the New Testament, Peter, Paul, and Jesus Christ, they all said Judaism won't do it, it's faith in Jesus Christ," he said in a televised interview in 2010

Jeffress has been widely known for his anti-gay and anti-abortion views. He even once suggested that the 9/11 terrorist attacks might have been God's punishment for abortion laws in the US.

"Just read the Bible, God will not allow sin to go unpunished and he certainly won't allow the sacrifice of children to go unpunished," he said in 2015.

The choice of the divisive pastor for the mission ignited a firestorm on Twitter, with many voicing their outrage over the move. Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney became one of the people to take issue with Jeffress' incendiary remarks.

“Such a religious bigot should not be giving the prayer that opens the United States Embassy in Jerusalem,” he wrote.

Mitt Romney

@MittRomney

Robert Jeffress says “you can’t be saved by being a Jew,“ and “Mormonism is a heresy from the pit of hell.”  He’s said the same about Islam. Such a religious bigot should not be giving the prayer that opens the United States Embassy in Jerusalem.

Gaza Palestinians Destroy Access to Their Own Humanitarian Aid

Not for the first time, Hamas, which rules Gaza, has destroyed access to humanitarian aid, damaging the crossing and forcing it to shut down.

Tens of Palestinian of rioters on Friday vandalized and set fire to the Palestinian side of the Kerem Shalom humanitarian crossing in Gaza, damaging gas pipelines that run from Israel to the Strip.

This is the second time in recent days that rioters, led by Hamas, have sabotaged humanitarian efforts that Israel and other countries carry out on behalf of Gaza’s residents.

The damaged gas depot and pipes carry fuel and gas from Israel into the Gaza Strip.

The rioters also ransacked several of the border crossings through which humanitarian aid from Israel and the international community flows to Gaza residents. They burned offices, buildings and gas tanks, and damaged the fences.

Following the destruction of the Kerem Shalom Crossing, Israel’s Minister of Defense Avigdor Liberman approved the IDF’s recommendation to close the passageway until further notice. It will remain closed until the damages caused by the riots, estimated at some NIS 30 million, are repaired.

The crossing will reopen in accordance with a situation assessment, the IDF said.

The rioters’ actions have brought to a halt dozens of trucks that carry merchandise and equipment to Gaza from Israel on a daily basis, including fuel.

IDF: Hamas Terror Group Harms Gazans

“The Hamas terror organization is harming the wellbeing of Gazans,” the IDF said. “Israel and other countries work to deliver goods such as food, equipment and fuel to Gaza’s citizens, initiatives which Hamas’ actions prevent. Hamas is responsible for everything that happens in Gaza, above and below ground.”

“Due to the vandalizing of the Kerem Shalom humanitarian crossing, for the second time in two weeks, by Palestinian rioters, the crossing will be closed until further notice to allow for repairs. Hamas is responsible for this and other acts of violence,” IDF Spokesman Lt. Cl. Jonathan Conricus stated.

The destruction of the Kerem Shalom Crossing was part of the so-called March of Return weekly riots, orchestrated by Hamas.

Approximately 15,000 Palestinians participated in riots along the Gaza border, hurling pipe bombs, rocks and grenades at IDF forces stationed on the border as well as sabotaging security infrastructure and burning tires

IDF troops responded with riot-dispersal means and used live fire in accordance with the rules of engagement when threatened.

“The IDF will continue operating to protect Israeli citizens,” the IDF stated.

These latest events occurred amid the daily violence on the Israel-Gaza border, orchestrated by Hamas, the Islamic terror group that rules the Strip and calls for Israel’s destruction.

For the past seven weeks, Hamas has been leading a series of protests under the “March of Return” banner. The terrorist group says the riots will culminate with “decisive” action on May 15, the 70th anniversary of the State of Israel, which the Palestinians observe as Nakba Day, meaning “Day of Catastrophe.”

Some 45 Palestinians, mostly terrorists, have been killed in the weeks-long clashes.

The IDF is making special preparations for massive riots on the border with Gaza that are expected in the coming days as Israel and the US will celebrate the historic move of the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

IDF on high alert along Gaza border ahead of expected massive attempt to breach fence

While Israeli officials make the final preparations for the highly-anticipated US embassy move to Jerusalem, the IDF is on high alert along the Gaza border. Tens of thousands of Palestinians are expected to riot in the area and attempt to simultaneously breach the security fence in protest against the embassy relocation.

The IDF continues to prepare for the expected violence along the Gaza border fence amid the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem and Nakba Day events—which will likely draw tens of thousands of Palestinians to the area in an attempt to breach the barrier. Early Monday morning, Israeli aircraft that flew over the coastal enclave dropped leaflets urging Gaza residents to stay away from the fence.

The leaflets warned the Palestinians against being exploited by Hamas and stressed that the IDF is “determined to defend Israel’s citizens and sovereignty.”

Clashes have erupted along the Gaza-Israel border ahead of today’s opening of the US Embassy in Jerusalem. The Palestinian Red Crescent says 22 Palestinians have been wounded from Israeli gunfire in Monday morning’s clashes.

Tuesday marks the commemoration of Nakba Day, which Palestinians refer to as their forced mass exodus from their homes during the establishment of the state of Israel, and which is celebrated among Israelis as Independence Day. Thousands of people have gathered near the border to take part in Monday's protests.

Huge demonstrations are expected to mark the May 15 event, which brings to a close the six-week “Great March of Return” demonstrations.

Earlier Gaza’s Health Ministry said at least a dozen Palestinians were injured. A journalist is reportedly among those wounded.
