The Matriarch of Aish has Passed Away
This week Rebbetzin Denah Weinberg, the wife of Rabbi Noah Weinberg, ob"m, the dean and founder of Aish HaTorah, passed away. Chances are you’ve never heard of her, but any benefit you’ve received from aish.com is ultimately due to her. She was the backbone of Aish. Without her, I wouldn’t be where I am today. She was a real powerhouse (she had to be if she was married to Rabbi Weinberg who was a towering spiritual giant).
Lori Palatnik, one of Rebbetzin Weinberg’s early students, captures some of her wisdom and strength in this article: From Good to Great: The Wisdom of Rebbetzin Denah Weinberg
She leaves behind a dynasty of 12 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and tens of thousands of people whose lives were forever changed by her.
Hollywood, Arnold, and the Academy Awards
Some inspiring stories out of Hollywood this week. Arnold Schwarzenegger stands up for the Jewish people, releasing a moving video about his Nazi father and the importance to fight hatred.
Jamie Lee Curtis won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and gave a stupendous acceptance speech, demonstrating the value of Hakarat HaTov, gratitude. She’s a class act and one of the very first celebrities to speak out against Kanye West’s antisemitic tirade.
And in celebrating the Best Picture Oscar going to the rollicking Everything Everywhere All at Once, read this article that explores the film’s meaning and Judaism and the multiverse.
Why Haven’t You Heard of These Jewish Inventors who’ve Changed Your Life?
Read Ken Spiro’s fascinating article about 7 19th century Jewish inventors who changed the way we communicate, travel, and generate electricity, and the terrible reasons why their names are not more well-known (Nazis have something to do with it).
Mother-in-Law vs Daughter-in-Law
Our team was pleasantly surprise to see this article about top rules mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law should keep for a great relationship going viral. It was one of the most trafficked articles in years.
And if you want more on this universal topic, read this and this, hot off the press.
Shabbat Shalom!
