12.5 million install Bible app
EDMOND, Okla. (UPI) -- An Oklahoma church said 12.5 million people have downloaded its Bible application for cellphones.
Bobby Gruenewald, who developed the software for Lifechurch.tv in Edmonton, said users have spent a total 4 billion minutes using the application, which was first released in 2008, to read to read the Bible, the Tulsa (Okla.) World reported Tuesday.
Gruenewald said the YouVersion Bible application ranked No. 7 in popularity among all 300,000 iPhone apps last week and the program is also available for Blackberrys, Androids and other phones.
"In July 2008, right before we launched on the iPhone, we said we would be thrilled to see 60,000 downloads in the first year. We saw that in three days. It's been pretty crazy," he said. "We'd never have imagined that we'd see this many people installing it, and not just that, but also using it."
