Battle of Armageddon

The name Armageddon comes from the Hebrew words har megiddon which translates to Hill of Megiddo. The armies that are called to the Battle of Armageddon will assemble in the Jezreel Valley in the area of Megiddo.

13 “And I saw three unclean spirits (the unholy, counterfeit trinity) like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon (Satan), and out of the mouth of the beast (Antichrist World Dictator), and out of the mouth of the false prophet (Antichrist False Prophet).”

THE GREAT SLAUGHTER OF JESUS CHRIST/BATTLE OF ARMAGEDDON

What is referred to as "The Second Coming of Christ" is when every eye shall see Jesus as He returns to the Mount of Olives concluding events leading up to what is commonly referred to as the "Battle of Armageddon." Scripture calls this the "Great Slaughter of Jesus Christ." At the end of the Great Tribulation, all of the armies of the world are gathered in Israel who encounter Jesus Christ as He comes to save the remnant of the Israelites. By this time, the world has become so depraved, they will attempt to lead a rebellion against God at Armageddon. The Antichrist will have assembled the greatest army in history and pointed them against Jerusalem. The Antichrist will attempt to do away with the remembrance of God.

From Isaiah 63:1-6, we see Jesus appears once again on earth, this time to take care of an urgent problem. His army of saints is NOT with him during this appearance or "great slaughter" which begins at Bozrah where the Israelites are after fleeing from the Antichrist. "I have trodden the wine press alone…"

Bozrah, means "sheepfold." Petra, which has a "Siq" or narrow opening, is an area which is thought by many to be a future hiding place for the Jewish remnant as they flee into the mountains and there are protected by God from the clutches of the Antichrist for 1260 days during the Great Tribulation. Petra is in the area of Edom/Bozrah, actually in Jordan . Undoubtedly, something dreadful and imminent is taking place there. The Antichrist wants to kill the remnant of Jews which God promised He would save. Bozrah is where Jesus comes to first, in a hurry....mighty to save!

There are a lot of things happening on earth and in Heaven during the Great Tribulation, particularly the seven bowl judgments, the wrath of God. Revelation Chapter 16 closes by telling us that the armies of the world will be gathered at Armageddon for the battle that will be the consummation of history.

Rev. 16:16 (NIV) Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon." This, incidentally, is the only place in the Bible where the word "Armageddon" appears.

We do know that Jesus will not come back until the Jews call for Him. Matthew 23:39 (KJV) "…Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord." Hosea 5:15 (KJV) "I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face; in their affliction they will seek me early." Finally, the Jews recognize that Jesus was and is their Messiah and they missed it. And, they now call for Him by His name. He is listening!

Isaiah 34:6 (KJV) "…..for the Lord hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea ." This is the Battle of Armageddon/Great Slaughter of Jesus Christ.

The Bible uses the word slaughter. Isaiah 34:2 "For the indignation of the Lord is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies; he hath utterly destroyed them, he had delivered them to the slaughter." The armies of the world are gathered in the Jezreel Valley near Megiddo in Northern Israel coming against Jerusalem . A part of the armies are at Bozrah where the Jews are in a God protected area believed to be Petra. The Jews cry out for their Messiah to come and save them. Jesus comes alone and has a great slaughter. The armies are destroyed at Bozrah/Edom and then Jesus goes on to Megiddo . There is a great slaughter for some 1600 furlongs (Rev. 14:20.) after which comes the ascent upon the Mount of Olives(Zechariah 14:4) as Jesus returns with his saints. Jesus plants His feet on the Mount of Olives .

The aftermath of the great slaughter is described in Ezekiel 39:17-20 (NIV)" Son of man, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Call out to every kind of bird and all the wild animals. 'Assemble and come together from all around to the sacrifice I am preparing for you, the great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel. There you will drink the blood of the princes of the earth as if they were rams an lambs, goats and bulls - all of them fattened animals from Bashan. At the sacrifice I am preparing for you, you will eat fat till you are glutted and drink blood till you are drunk. At my table you will eat your fill of horses and riders, mighty men and soldiers of every kind,' declares the Soverign Lord."

The appearance of Jesus at the great slaughter immediately precedes the Second Coming of Christ where every eye shall see Him. We know this because His garments are still stained with blood from the great slaughter. "And he was clothed with vesture dipped in blood." (Rev. 19:13). The Saints follow behind Him clothed in fine linen, white and clean. (Rev.19:14)
