Is God the same Yesterday and forever
Steve brought some good thoughts and I would like to add mine.
Taking into consideration what you said previously to this EFx
Is speaking in tongues for NT times and heaven only?
I say God is the same yesterday and forever with regard to speaking in tongues. God us have given to us gifts by His Holy spirit for the extension of His kingdom and the building up of His saints for the purpose.
It says
Numbers 23.19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? (KJV)
1 Sam 15:29
And he who is the Glory of Israel will not lie, nor will he change his mind, for he is not human that he should change his mind!" ( NLT)
So we need to go into the Word of God asking for His discernment is this for Today.
It says in Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
Taking into consideration what was said in previous verses
15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
The day of Pentecost, therefore, ushered in the "last days" God empowers us by His Holy spirit, we are called as his disciples in the present day, and at times with the working of miraculous healings, speaking in tongues etc. As God wills.
The last days" began with Christ's first advent and will end with the second advent.
These are my thoughts on Focus this week which I leave you with.
God bless you.
Elaine.

The idea the God is the same yesterday today and forever is of course quite true. God is immutable. He does not change.
However Gods dealings with mankind do change as Gods purposes unfold.
Let me give you an example.
We are not in the Garden of Eden today!
So while God does not change, clearly Gods revelation to mankind does change. We are not faced with the same law and choices that Adam and Eve faced.
Similarily we are not today living in a tent with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. So Gods word to them is not the same word to us today.
Today we are not under the law as the Israelites were of old. Christ has died and the church has been formed. The church is of a very different consitution to Israel.
So while God remains unchanging the way in which he deals with men does change.

In light of recent posting saying speaking in tongues is for NT times and heaven only and then replying saying God same yesterday, today and forever. I am confused.... has the bible got it wrong? You are both using scripture to back your viewpoints, but I also realise that sometimes scripture can be used out of context or can mean varying things.
Is the bible correct in saying "God is the same yesterday, today and forever"?
Peace
