Adjustment to the Government
of the Holy Spirit

I just love that word adjustment. Adjustment. I know it is uncomfortable and disconcerting to have the sense that everything you thought you knew is wrong (or at best, incomplete), and God shows you a different way, a more excellent way, and usually that “way” is not a way that you would have chosen or come to on your own. It is not a process that anyone particularly enjoys going through.
Even so, we are all in need of a major adjustment. I have a saying that has served me well through the years, and I’d like to share it with you now: the purpose of revelation is not to SUBSTANTIATE your illusions, but to ELIMINATE them. Do not seek confirmation from God as to your thoughts and your perception of things, but seek instead to be disillusioned; seek to be rid of all your illusions about God, all your misperceptions and misconceptions about Who He is and what He is doing. Seek to know Him and His Will no matter how contrary it seems to everything you have heard and learned and experienced up to this point.

The Bible calls us to grow in grace, and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus; and this growth is only possible through revelation. With this revelation comes adjustment, and that adjustment is continuous and it is ongoing, until we are perfectly and completely aligned with God’s heart and mind, His purpose, His Will, and His Kingdom...

Hello Elaine,
 
Observe the difference between the disciples before and after Pentecost.

Before, they were plagued with doubts, delusions of grandeur, and fears.

3 1/2 years of living and walking with Jesus was amazing - but not transformative.

Meaning, they saw the miracles (and even performed a few themselves), they listened to the teaching, but spiritually speaking they were still unable to bear all the Jesus wanted to show and teach them.

This is why Jesus told them, "It is better for you if I go away, because when I do, the Helper will come."

And, when the Helper came, He certainly did "help" them - in more ways than one!

From hiding behind locked doors for fear of the Jews, to standing before the Sanhedrin and boldly proclaiming: "We must obey God rather than men" and "We cannot help but speak the things we have seen and heard!"

Same people, same Gospel, same Jesus...

But three minutes on the Day of Pentecost was more transformative than 3 years of walking with the Master Himself.

Ponder that...

What does that mean for people who are trying to follow Jesus but have not had their Day of Pentecost yet?

Let Us Build for You!

If you have read the Scriptures you know that many who say, “Lord, Lord” and do mighty things in the name of the Lord are, in fact, not known by Him at all, and will have no part in the Kingdom of God. 
This ought to bring us to our knees. This ought to cause us to search our hearts. Do we really know the Lord? Have we really seen Him? Has God revealed His Son to us?

When we look at the history of God’s dealings with man we see a pattern emerging, and this pattern is illustrated for us in the Mountain of Transfiguration, an event recorded in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Here is the pattern. First, the Lord sovereignly reveals His glory to us. Then, we try to grasp the Lord with fleshly hands. Finally, the Lord moves on, and we must either move with Him or stay where we are. Let us look at each point more particularly...

Hello Elaine,
 
The disciples were dazed and confused.
Jesus said He was going away.
What did that mean?
We thought He was the Messiah and would be with us always!

But Jesus said this is for the best, because if He goes away, another Helper will come.

This Helper already "dwells with you," He said, "And will be in you" (Jn. 14:17).

Think about the gravity of that remark - especially when you realize that the Holy Spirit had never been IN someone.

Oh yes, the Spirit had come upon people occasionally.

Some had even been filled with the Spirit.

But not like this... not on this scale... not to this depth.

The Spirit had not yet been given because Jesus had not yet been glorified.

But after the crucifixion and resurrection of Passover, the Day of Pentecost signaled the beginning of the Last Days, the fulfillment of God's Promise, and the realization of everything Jesus had taught them about the Helper, the Holy Spirit.

Join us this week as we go back to those final teachings of Jesus on the night of His betrayal and rediscover this Helper Who is "with us" and shall be "in us."

What is the Testimony of Jesus? Why does the prophetic word revolve around this Testimony? Why does this Testimony attract so much rage, spiritual conflict and opposition? And what does it mean to have or to bear this Testimony?
John gives us a precise definition, but it requires the use of a concordance to unlock the meaning. If you simply look up the word “testimony” you only find a few relevant verses. For some inexplicable reason, the translators who gave us the King James Version decided on several occasions to translate a single Greek word into multiple English words. This means we have to take an extra step in our study, but it is not too difficult...

Hello Elaine,
Last week we discussed how the Promise of the Holy Spirit was introduced in the Old Testament (though it was not fulfilled until the New Testament).
As it turns out, the Law is perfect, holy and good; but the people who are supposed to keep the Law are imperfect, unholy, and far from good.
God knew all of this, of course... and this explains why He made the Promise to begin with: that, in the fullness of time, He would pour out His Spirit upon "all flesh."
That outpouring began in Acts 2... and it is still going on!
Even more important than pouring "on" is filling from "within."
Sounds great in theory, but I doubt that Joel or Ezekiel could fully comprehend the significance of their prophecies.
Why wouldn't God just go ahead and fulfill the Promise? Why "the last days"?
Because the Spirit would not be given in this measure until after the Son of Man was glorified.
In the life and ministry of Jesus we see - for the first time - what it means to be wholly and completely GOVERNED by the Holy Spirit.
This week we will examine this in detail and make some distinctions applicable to us today.

Hello Elaine,
My burden now is to begin sharing with you certain truths concerning the present-day ministry of the Holy Spirit - specifically, how to cooperate with Him and not resist Him.
Not understanding this was the fatal flaw that cut off Judaism from Spirit and Truth.
Stephen rightly said of those religious leaders, "You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you" (Acts 7:51.
That they failed to recognize the movement of God through and by the Holy Spirit meant that they could not receive the gift of revelation or the Spirit of Truth, through Whom they would have discerned Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the Living God, the Messiah.
Instead, the Spirit was poured out on "ordinary" people on the Day of Pentecost.
And, in fact, that Spirit is still being poured out "on all flesh" as the Scriptures promised.
But for too many people, a religion about Jesus is mostly a thing in their head, a statement of beliefs and doctrines, and whatever church activities they participate in.
We can have all that, just as the Jews did; but without the Holy Spirit, we are simply "dead men walking," whitewashed tombs filled with dead men's bones.
We need to be adjusted the government of the Holy Spirit, and that will take us above and beyond the earthly realms of religion and politics, into the realm of Spirit and Truth, where true wisdom and discernment comes from.
Now, more than ever, we need Spirit-filled, Spirit-led, Spirit-taught, Spirit-governed people who can faithfully bear the Testimony of Jesus in the earth!
What is the ministry of the Holy Spirit?
How do we cooperate with that Spirit?
What are the essentials of Spirit-led living?
How do these things relate to a Christ-centered faith

The Joy of Unconditional Surrender

Many hear the teaching of the Cross and the decrease of Self and spend a lot of time (too much time) trying very hard to decrease themselves.
This usually results in a lot of endless introspection, analyzing, and eventual frustration. It seems the more we pay attention to ourselves, the larger we become, and the more things we find wrong. It is a fact of life that we usually get more of whatever we focus on. If we focus on Self, even in a valiant attempt to decrease Self, it seems Self just gets stronger.

Scripture does not teach us to decrease ourselves through asceticism, clothing ourselves in rags, or telling everyone that we are lowly worms. This accomplishes nothing, and actually has the opposite effect of drawing undue attention to ourselves. On the contrary, Scripture teaches us to seek first the Kingdom of God and to pray daily for the Will of God. This is a far more positive and productive approach. By focusing on what we want – the increase of Christ – we receive exactly what we ask for – the increase of Christ. The fringe benefit of Christ increasing is that Self automatically decreases. We do not have to directly seek to decrease ourselves. Let us instead seek the increase of Christ...

Hello Elaine,

Just as Elijah was led by the Lord on his journey from Gilgal, to Bethel, to Jericho, and finally to cross the Jordan one final time, so the Overcomers are being raised up in these last days to make a similar journey.

This journey is not about how to be saved, but how to overcome the Dragon by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.

By the grace of God, Elijah overcome Ahab and Jezebel; and by God’s grace, we too will overcome the Beast and the False Prophet as we prepare the way for the Lord’s soon return.

Hello Elaine,

Last week we discussed the prophetic significance of Naboth’s Vineyard.

We saw how the spirit of religion, together with political power, seeks to possess the Lord’s inheritance and destroy its fruitfulness.

Elijah was not around to see Jezebel’s destruction, but everything he spoke by the word of the Lord came to pass in due season.

Ahab and his entire family was destroyed, and then Jezebel was eaten by dogs.

Today, the spirit of Elijah lives on through the Overcomers, a Remnant that stands up to the Dragon, resists it, and defeats it.

And, like Ahab and Jezebel of old, the political and religious institutions of this world seem powerful and unstoppable right now, but they cannot stand before the God of Elijah.

Naboth lost his life but won the victory because, like the Overcomers, Naboth did not love his own life even unto death, and he refused to compromise the Lord’s inheritance.

The Crisis of a Christless Christianity

I have said many times that we do not need more of the Lord, since we are already complete in Christ – we just need less of everything else.
There are many things that spoil, hinder, distract, and lead us away from the simplicity of an abiding relationship with Jesus. Many of them are spiritual and religious. The spirit of Antichrist is not necessarily seen in something that is obviously satanic or demonic. Instead, the spirit of Antichrist is revealed in anything that seeks to spoil us by taking our eyes off of Christ – it is anti-Christ, against Christ, antithetical to the great Purpose of God.

How easy it is for us to become distracted into something less than Christ! Are you centered on Christ? Is Jesus your obsession? Is He your focus? Or have you set your sights on something beneath Him? This speaks right to the heart of the crisis we find ourselves in today...

Hello Elaine,

We've been studying the ministry of Elijah to find "clues" that pertain to the unique time and season that we are living in here in these last days.

"In the wilderness" we are preparing the way of the Lord, making things ready for His return, just like John the Baptist, who came in the spirit and power of Elijah.

We have seen how the Lord preserves a Remnant, and how Ahab and Jezebel (politics and religion) are always on the attack against that Remnant in an effort to shut up and shut down the prophetic voice.

How many truly prophetic voices do we see in the Institutional Church today?

Few, if any.

The Lord said He had reserved 7,000 in Israel, but they weren't attending meetings with Jezebel.

Yet another clue can be found in the story of Naboth's Vineyard.

Why is this story in the Bible?

Why is it so important

Why was this the final straw that brought Elijah out of hiding to confront Ahab and Jezebel yet again?

Hello Elaine,

Here's where we were before...
Elijah secured a great victory at Mount Carmel.

He confronted the false prophets of Baal.
He restored the altar of the Lord that had been torn down.
He prayed down fire from heaven to consume the sacrifice and proved to all Israel that the Lord is God.
And, in one final act, he killed the 450 false prophets.
Quite a day.
But Jezebel is still out there, and now she is stirred to anger.
