Entering His Rest

I come into contact with a great number of people who are coming out of the religious system, and they are usually full of a lot of anxiety and excitement.

When they ask me for advice, I counsel them to take a year off and “do nothing” for awhile. What I mean is, religion has kept you doing, doing, doing for God. There needs to be a season of rest. You need to experience a Sabbath day and just “be” with Jesus in terms of spiritual activity. Oh yes, that sounds so nice, but I have seldom met anyone who could do it. They come out of church, and before you know it they start a home church, or they go looking for fellowship with others, or they get restless and end up going back to church where things are more familiar. The idea of just being with Jesus and resting for awhile is completely foreign to their understanding.

People mistake "all powerful" to mean "can do anything."

Hello Elaine,

A few years ago (back when I still traveled to teach) I was speaking at a small gathering and I noticed a brother on the front row, shaking his head vigorously back and forth, as if he were disagreeing with me - except he was smiling.

I stopped and asked him why he was smiling and shaking his head.

"Because God isn't who I thought He was," the brother said. "He is Who He is!"

Now, that's a word of wisdom.

That's what God means when He says, "I AM."

Not as we think He is.

Not as we hope He is.

Not as we imagine Him to be.

Certainly not as "Religion" has made God out to be.

But God IS Who He is.

"I AM."

This is why I have observed that: "The purpose of revelation is not to substantiate your illusions about God, but to eliminate them."

Religion is based on an ILLUSION of God - who God is, what God wants, what God requires, what pleases God, what displeases God.

Ironically, there are over 45,000 different opinions (denominations) about who God is and what makes God happy.

Once we leave all the garbage behind, we should be eager and excited to become DIS-ILLUSIONED... to rid ourselves of all our illusions and finally see God for Who He is, without the filter of the religious system getting in the way.

Ironically, the ones most unhappy are the ones so in love with their ILLUSIONS they they are unwilling to see the truth or face reality.

There is another name for "denying reality" - it's called insanity!

Spiritually speaking, it means we can spend years going through the motions of Churchianity and base our knowledge of God on all sorts of illusions, half-baked ideas, and downright lies and deceptions.

To know Him AS HE IS begins with realizing how little of Him you know - and how much you need to un-learn.

But step by step we will get there.

And this week, we will explore Who God IN FACT is, as revealed in Christ and in the Scriptures.

Hello Elaine,

I have observed that "disappointment with God" is not really disappointment with God at all - it is simply that feeling of frustration we get when the "God" we created in our own mind fails to live up to our unrealistic, unbiblical expectations of Who He is and what He is supposed to do.

Too many people create a mental image of God in their head, or blindly accept what the Church tells them, and this sets them up for disappointment.

Is there way to understand - and possibly define - Who God REALLY is?

On the one hand, to think that we can fathom God is somewhat like an ant trying to fathom human beings.

But on the other hand, while we have made no effort at all to make ourselves known to the ants, God has gone out of His way to make Himself known to us!

For that reason, I believe we CAN know Who God is, because He has revealed Himself to us in different ways so that He CAN be known.

That capacity to know Him is there because He breathed something of Himself into us from the beginning, making us in His image and in His likeness.

And, while God is infinite, there are certain basic elements (what I call "essential attributes") that form a good basis for better knowing, understanding, and relating to God as He in fact IS.

Maybe this will help us to better know Him, and to better trust Him, when disappointments come.

The Sad Story of a Wise Old Fool

May I say that all the accomplishments and blessings of a lifetime are worthless if you do not finish well. Running well is important, but finishing well is even more important.

I have stated before, and I repeat: the majority of Christians today are not on track to finish well. They do not run well. In fact, they do not run or advance at all. They sit just inside the Narrow Gate, rejoicing in a future hope and a future salvation, relaxed and comfortable in the knowledge that they have passed through the Gate, so all is well. They are not walking the Path of Christ-centered spiritual growth and maturity. They are content to look backwards to what God was doing in their life twenty, thirty or forty years ago; to what God told them then, what God showed them then. They are nostalgic for the “good old days,” but have no present truth, no fresh clear vision that compels them to keep moving forward, no motivation or incentive to finish well – to finish with joy, to go out with a bang, to be full of fire right up until they take their final breath...

Hello Elaine,

Something should be driving us to pray.

There should be some unction, some inner compulsion, to seek God, to seek Him early, and to seek Him often.

If that is not our daily experience then something is wrong.

Perhaps we have grown complacent, or comfortable, or cold.

Whatever the reason, vision is the cure.

If we have truly seen God’s Purpose we cannot just go along as before.

Daniel has seen the Purpose; Daniel has ordered his life according to that Purpose; and Daniel is in the daily habit of praying for that Purpose to be fulfilled.

Something bigger than himself is fueling his prayers.

He is daily paying the price, living according to the Truth he claims to agree with, demonstrating the preeminence of Christ, showing that “the heavens do rule.”

So in him we see the Remnant Principle.

This week we conclude this series with the most important takeaways for us today - because the time in which we live is just as perilous as the time in which Daniel live.

Hello Elaine,

The “first year of Darius” marks the end of Babylon and the beginning of a concentrated effort on the behalf of Daniel to fast and pray for the return of the Jews back to Jerusalem, for the rebuilding of the Temple, and for the coming of the Messiah, the Christ.

Daniel was so urgent in this that he withdrew three times a day to pray.

But whenever you decide to turn your face away from the earthly and towards the heavenly, towards the face of the Lord, you touch spiritual conflict.

It is a battle to get into prayer, and a battle to stay in prayer.

So it is not coincidental that an edict outlawing prayer is suddenly proclaimed in the first year of Darius.

As soon as Daniel rises up to pray for the fulfillment of God’s Purpose, the enemy responds by threatening his life.

The spirit of Antichrist is once again directly challenging the Remnant, threatening to destroy it, in an attempt to frustrate God’s Purpose.

Whatever your present situation, difficulties, or challenges, you will also experience spiritual conflict if you try to do the right thing.

The easiest thing to do is to give up, give in, go along to get along.

The Lord needs people willing to stand firm and be strong in the power of the Lord.

You may not be facing a literal lion's den, but your adversary the devil is walking around as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

So we're not going to give him one inch of ground to get an advantage over us!

The Cure for "Prophetic Pains"

I can quickly relate a dozen experiences I’ve had with flaky people (both men and women) who thought they were “prophetic.”

They always show up at my meetings and want to pray for me. Then they always think they “see” something wrong with me, or they want to give me a “word.” And they are always off the mark.

This used to bother and upset me – now, I try to have a little fun with it.
One lady gave me the great revelation that there was something “wrong with my heart.”

Hello Elaine,

Something to think about...

If God will do whatever He wishes, regardless of whether we pray or not, then we do not need to pray at all, and the Lord’s instructions on praying for the Kingdom and the Will are superfluous.

But the truth is that God waits for a Remnant to rise up and to pray in agreement with His Purpose before He does anything – He will do nothing apart from the Ekklesia.

Apart from HIM, we CAN do nothing; apart from US, He WILL do nothing.

Here is my point: the Lord searches the whole Earth, and when He has found a person who sees that Purpose, and daily orders their life according to that Purpose, and (here is the key!) consistently rises up to pray for the fulfillment of that Purpose, then God will move Heaven and Earth on behalf of that person; for He has found, at last, some ground to build upon.

That person is numbered with the Remnant because, I promise you, men and women like that are few and far between.

Are you such a person?

If not, you can be.

We think if only we can instruct people concerning the tenets of our faith, or persuade them with a logical argument, or woo them with some emotional plea, then we will have disciples. This is a falsehood. That is not Spirit and Life. Christianity is not memorizing certain doctrines or disseminating a systematic theology or having people repeat a so-called “Sinner’s Prayer”. Christianity is becoming one with a God-Man! You can have all the other in its proper place, but for too long that “other” has been offered as Christianity. And so people touch our beliefs, our doctrines, our religion, our theology, our zeal, but they do not touch a Living Christ...

Hello Elaine,

Do we have a “word from God,” or do we have God Himself?

Are we so into the next prophetic “thing” that we have missed the Lord?

Everyone sees the handwriting on the wall. A handful of people can translate it – but that does not make them prophetic.

Only a Remnant can give the meaning.

The Remnant, because it clearly sees God’s Purpose, can accurately interpret all things through the filter of that Purpose.

That "writing on the wall" has become a modern-day proverb for a prediction of a coming catastrophe.

True... but it is also a prediction of the fulfillment of God's eternal purpose concerning His Son.

It is both the increasing of Christ and the decreasing of everything opposed to Christ.

I see the handwriting on the walls of our governments, our education systems, our financial institutions, the nations of the world.

They are all being decreased.

But how am I able to see it so clearly?

Because the same thing is happening inside of me! The same thing is happening inside of you!

As He increases, everything else decreases.

Do you understand this?

If you truly understand this then you are the minority.

You are part of the Remnant.

If you don't understand it, that's OK.

Pleasing Man

A Call to Prophetic Responsibility

[ltr]Nearly 20 years ago I was (still) teaching within the Institutional Church, trying hard to get people to "see" what I had seen.[/ltr]
[ltr]I no longer do that, of course.[/ltr]
[ltr]But in one of my last messages, I taught on the Overcomers as a Remnant that God is raising up to ensure the continuity of a Christ-centered faith in the last days.[/ltr]
[ltr]After the service, I overheard a lady saying, "What a wonderful message! I wish Sister So-And-So had been here. She really has to overcome a lot, what with her awful divorce and her rotten kids and her terrible health..."[/ltr]
[ltr]This is what first comes to mind for a lot of people when you hear about "overcoming" - overcoming your problems, overcoming your obstacles, overcoming life's big and little difficulties, and so on.[/ltr]
[ltr]The poor lady listening to me in the Institutional Church was consumed with the kind of self-centered faith common to this modern age, where God is all about (1) saving you from hell (2) making you a success on earth and (3) taking you to heaven when you die.[/ltr]
[ltr]But that has nothing to do with the Overcomers of Revelation 12.[/ltr]
[ltr]Those Overcomers in the Book of Revelation aren't learning how to overcome their personal problems and bad habits.[/ltr]
[ltr]They aren't learning how to be big, rich, and successful here on earth.[/ltr]
[ltr]They are standing for the Testimony of Jesus and are overcoming the Dragon, "that old serpent, the devil and satan."[/ltr]
[ltr] [/ltr]
[ltr]Yes, there is a real spiritual war going on with a real enemy out to kill, steal, and destroy.[/ltr]
[ltr]But there is something even bigger and more important than me and my personal problems.[/ltr]
[ltr]There is the Testimony of Jesus - and the Spirit of Antichrist that is trying to destroy that beautiful Testimony.[/ltr]

[ltr]But God is raising up a Remnant of people who do "get it."[/ltr]

The Last Exodus

Many people are beginning to see the truth. They are beginning to see that there is a called-out remnant of people – a “Church in the Wilderness” that God is separating and calling out of Organized Religion.

And this is not a mere reaction to being hurt, or rejected, or just being rebellious. It is actually the fulfillment of a prophetic sequence of events that has already been established in the Scriptures and in the history of the nation of Israel. It is the final calling out of a remnant of Overcomers who will bear the Testimony of Jesus and stand for the preeminence of Christ in all things as we prepare for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ and for the inevitable judgment upon those who claim to represent Him, but do not.

These Overcomers have been called by God to forsake “Churchianity” – not to forsake the joining and assembling of the members of Christ’s Body, but to forsake the hypocrisy of the religious spirits that masquerade as the Holy Spirit. Hello Elaine,

The Book of Daniel holds within it the secret to being an overcomer in these last days.

Simply observe how in every case of conflict between the Remnant and the enemy that the Remnant is strengthened and the enemy is defeated.

In every instance the very thing which is meant to destroy the Remnant actually serves to reinforce it.

How often we give up and quit, when if we had only remained steadfast we would have been strengthened.

Many times we are on the verge of a significant victory, breakthrough, or revelation but we give up when tested.

The Book of Daniel will teach us to remain steadfast.

Reckoning and Reality
