The Trump administration has great cause to head into the holidays with a sense of accomplishment: the president has a new outlook for 2018 that will make for a productive political year.

On Friday, just days after passing hallmark tax legislation, President Donald Trump announced on Twitter that he would be working with Democrats in the new year to rebuild the nation.

Trump named infrastructure as a key issue facing the United States, and indicated that it would be an ideal starting point for Democrats and Republicans to work together in 2018.

Campaign Promises
“At some point, and for the good of the country, I predict we will start working with the Democrats in a Bipartisan fashion,” the president tweeted. He continued:

Infrastructure would be a perfect place to start. After having foolishly spent $7 trillion in the Middle East, it is time to start rebuilding our country!

This positive message comes as Trump was recently named the “most successful first-year president ever” in terms of policy; he has passed a remarkable amount of legislation in 2017, much of which has followed his campaign promises. And it seems this loyalty to these election-year vows will continue in 2018 with his bipartisan infrastructure plan.

During his campaign in 2016, Trump promised Americans that he would deliver a $1 trillion infrastructure plan that would improve the quality and integrity of America’s collapsing road networks and public works, which includes airports, bridges, and can include rail networks and ports.

His recent tweet seems to suggest that this is on the horizon.

Partisan Support
Luckily, it doesn’t seem that Trump will be hurting for the bipartisan support he desires. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) have both expressed interest in working with the Trump administration on policy, so long as the results are positive and benefit the American people.

Schumer, in fact, pushed for an infrastructure deal early in 2017, though many of his Democratic colleagues at the time were still dead-set on a strategy of wholesale opposition to the president.

Still, while an infrastructure proposal is something that many on both sides of the political aisle feel is appropriate, it may take some time before enough Democrats are willing to jump on board. Many Democrats may opt to continue opposing any Republican efforts, no matter how well-intentioned, beneficial, or well-timed they are — or how much their minority leaders support them.

Only time will tell if the two parties can work together in 2018 on “rebuilding” the nation. In the meantime, the White House plans to release Trump’s approximately 70-page proposal in the near future.

We can’t wait to see what the president has in store.
