As Israel Makes Peace, Gaza Terrorists Foster Conflict

Israel’s police force is readying to set up hundreds of checkpoints across the country and levy steep fines with a view to enforcing a nationwide lockdown  — set to begin on Friday — that is meant to curb the spread of the coronavirus.


The shutdown, approved by the cabinet on Sunday night, will last at least three weeks and comes as Israeli authorities on Monday registered a record daily tally of nearly 5,000 new COVID-19 cases.

Media Silence as Arch-Terrorists Plot to Destroy Israel

For the first time in 30 years, Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, traveled to Lebanon to meet with Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
The meeting was hugely significant. So why wasn't the public informed that two well-armed terrorist organizations met to gang up on the one democracy in the Middle East and the only Jewish state in the world?
A major event with potentially massive repercussions took place on Sunday.

Ismail Haniya, the leader of Hamas, traveled to Lebanon for the first time in 30 years to meet with Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah. The purpose of their meeting was to discuss their joint goal to destroy Israel. This is not mere conjecture. Al-Manar, Hezbollah’s television station, reported that the two leaders reaffirmed their “axis of resistance” against Israel.

Why don’t you know that two well-armed terrorist organizations met to coordinate their effort to gang up on the one democracy in the Middle East and the only Jewish state in the world?

Because barely any major international news outlets outside of the Jewish and Israeli press even bothered to mention it. News editors who rush to condemn Israel for any missteps when confronting its enemies should be asking themselves why they are not making sure to inform their audiences about this tangible threat to Israel’s very survival. 
Countless media outlets failed to report that Haniya was met by hundreds of Palestinians who came from the many refugee camps in southern Lebanon to see him. He declared, “Not long ago, our rockets only reached close to the Gaza border. Today the resistance in Gaza possesses rockets that can reach Tel Aviv and beyond Tel Aviv.”

Had the media actually reported the story, they would have needed to note that Hamas and Hezbollah have made their mission to destroy Israel and kill Jews very clear in their founding documents.

The Hamas charter includes the following declarations:

Article 6: “The Islamic Resistance Movement is a distinguished Palestinian movement, whose allegiance is to Allah, and whose way of life is Islam. It strives to raise the banner of Allah over every inch of Palestine.” 
Article 7: “The Day of Judgment will not come about until Muslims fight Jews and kill them. Then, the Jews will hide behind rocks and trees, and the rocks and trees will cry out: ‘O Muslim, there is a Jew hiding behind me, come and kill him.”
Article 13: “Palestine is an Islamic land… Since this is the case, the Liberation of Palestine is an individual duty for every Muslim wherever he may be…There is no solution for the Palestinian problem except by Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are but a waste of time, an exercise in futility.” 
Hezbollah’s founding manifesto states “our struggle will end only when this entity [Israel] is obliterated. We recognize no treaty with it, no ceasefire, and no peace agreements.” 

Hezbollah leader Nasrallah says openly that “There is no solution to the conflict in this region except with the disappearance of Israel” and that he is against any peace agreements with Israel. Just this past May he gave a public address in which he called Israel a “cancerous tumor” and proclaimed that “Palestine from river to sea must be liberated” and “Israel must be destroyed.”

Nasrallah is also known for making outright antisemitic statements like his speech on September 28, 2001 in which he said, “What do the Jews want? They want security and money…If you look all over the world, you will find no one more miserly or greedy than they are.”

Two factors make the Hamas-Hezbollah alliance extremely disturbing:

Hezbollah is Shia Muslim and Hamas is Sunni. The two have been in conflict since they disputed who should succeed Muhammed following his death in 632 CE. Much blood has been shed between the two sides over the centuries and has ravaged the Middle East in recent decades. The fact that Hamas and Hezbollah are willing to put centuries of conflict aside in order to gang up on Israel, demonstrates the degree of their commitment to this cause.
Hezbollah is estimated to possess 150,000 rockets including hundreds of Zetzal-2 missiles that can reach anywhere in Israel. Their arsenal includes precision guided missiles and their army includes 45,000 well trained soldiers.
Hamas has approximately 6,000 rockets including the Fajr and J-80 which travel 100 kilometers, the R-160 with a range of 120 kilometers and the M-302 which can reach 200 kilometers – essentially covering all of Israel. They have 30,000 well trained soldiers and 7,000 reserves in case of emergency. 

A coordinated missile strike against Israel from Hamas in the south and Hezbollah in the north would be catastrophic for Israel. And now their leaders have connected to form an axis against Israel.

The consequences of this meeting could be severe. And the decision of countless media outlets to allow the public to be entirely uninformed of its occurrence  demonstrates a massive failure to discharge their journalistic duties.

A resolution proposed on Wednesday by the Palestinian Authority to the Arab League which would have condemned the normalization deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates has failed after the requisite number of countries refused to endorse its wording.

 

“After a three-hour debate, some Arab countries refused to include [a] statement condemning [the UAE] for abandoning Arab decisions,” the Palestinian Authority Representative to the Arab League Muhannad al-Aklouk said.

Unprovoked Carnage: The Hebron Massacre of 1929

In the eyes of many, the Hebron massacre is the defining event of the 1929 Arab riots in Palestine.

For centuries, the small Jewish community of Hebron coexisted alongside a much larger Muslim community. Although Jews were never accorded full equality and often faced rampant discrimination and even extreme violence, at times relations were cordial.

1929 was a seminal year for the inhabitants of the Holy Land, as violent Arab riots against Jewish immigration swept through Palestine, which was then administered by the British.

Triggered by a baseless rumor that Jews were planning to march to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem and claim ownership of their holiest place, thousands of Arab villagers streamed into Jerusalem to pray at the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount, many armed with sticks and knives. The crowds worked themselves into a frenzy, with some 20-30 gunshots reported fired in the vicinity of the Temple Mount by rabble-rousers. A British report on the events describes the excited Arab crowds as intent on mischief and possibly murder. Fed by rumors that two Arabs had been killed by Jews elsewhere in Jerusalem, Arabs in the Old City went on the rampage, attacking and murdering Jews.

The rumors, and the violence  they prompted, spread swiftly across the land – most notably to Hebron, where a massacre unfolded.

The Massacre Begins
As Jews prepared to mark Shabbat, the holy day of rest, reports of the violence in Jerusalem made their way to their Arab neighbors.

The first to be targeted were the Ashkenazi Jews, who lived separately from both the Sephardi Jewish community and from the Arab population. Although their community had been established in the town for at least a century, their isolation fed the Arab views that these “Zionist immigrants” were suspicious and thus hated.

Despite the suspicion borne towards the Ashkenazi Jews, some recall being on good terms with the Arab neighbors. So peaceful was the city that only one British policeman guarded the entire city.

He oversaw a small force of 18 mounted police, together with 15 constables on patrol. All but one of whom were Arabs. Many were infirm and elderly.

Arab youths took to hurling rocks at the Ashkenazi yeshiva students passing by. That afternoon, a Jewish student named Shmuel Rosenholtz went to learn at the yeshiva. Around 4pm, Arab rioters forced their way in to the building. The caretaker managed to hide in a well, but Rosenholtz wasn’t so lucky. Absorbed in study, he didn’t see his attackers till too late.

The killing frenzy had started.

Seeing the warning signs, a number of Jews took shelter in the home the son of Rabbi Slonim, Eliezer Dan Slonim that night. The following day, he was approached by the rioters. They offered him a deal. If he agreed to hand over all the Ashkenazi yeshiva students to the Arabs, the rioters would spare the lives of the Sephardi community.

Such an act would have meant certain death for dozens of Jews. Slonim refused, saying “we are all one people”. In retaliation, he, his wife and 4-year-old son were promptly shot dead.

The following hours were hell for Hebron’s Jewish community, as the attacks turned into a massacre of the helpless Jewish community.

The following day, 24 August, saw Arab mobs gather and attack the Jewish quarter. The resulting carnage became known as the Hebron Massacre of 1929.
By 8am on Saturday morning, Arabs began to gather around the Jewish community. Armed with clubs, knives and axes, the mobs prepared to attack. Women and children threw stones while men ransacked Jewish houses and destroyed Jewish property.

With only a single police officer in all of Hebron, the Arabs were able to enter Jewish courtyards with literally no opposition.

Jews of all ages were attacked at random – men, women and children alike were the targets of the fury of the Arab mob. Women were raped, children were bludgeoned to death, and men stabbed and mutilated.

The Beit Romano police station turned into a shelter for the Jews on the morning of Saturday, August 24. It also became a synagogue when the Orthodox Jews gathered there said their morning prayers. As they finished praying, they began to hear noises outside the building. Thousands of Arabs descended from Har Hebron, shouting “Kill the Jews!” in Arabic. They even tried to break down the doors of the station.

The small police force was overrun and utterly incapable of stemming the mob. Some Arab policemen even joined in the killings.

The Beit Hadassah Jewish hospital, operated by the Hadassah Medical Organization, which provided equal treatment for Arabs and Jews alike, wasn’t spared. The rioters destroyed the pharmacy, and torched a synagogue on the top floor, destroying the Torah scrolls inside. The pharmacist there, a crippled man who had served both Jews and Arabs for four decades, was forced to watch as his daughter was raped and then murdered. He was then killed himself.

Photographs from the time show a girl struck on the head by a sword with her brain spilling out, a woman with bandaged hands, people with their eyes gouged out, a man whose hand had been savagely amputated, and other grisly sights.

It’s important to note that some Arabs did try to help Jews as the Hebron massacre unfolded. Nineteen Arab families saved dozens, if not hundreds, of Hebron’s Jews. Zmira Mani wrote about an Arab named Abu Id Zaitoun who brought his brother and son to rescue her family. The Arab family protected the Manis with their swords, hid them in a cellar along with other Jews they had saved, and eventually found a policeman to escort them safely to the police station at Beit Romano.

The Aftermath of the Hebron Massacre
In all, 67 Jews were murdered, and dozens injured.

Following the attacks, the British High Commissioner Sir John Chancellor visited Hebron. He later wrote to his son, “The horror of it is beyond words. In one house I visited not less than twenty-five Jews men and women were murdered in cold blood.” Sir Walter Shaw concluded in The Palestine Disturbances report that “unspeakable atrocities have occurred in Hebron.”

With their homes laid to waste and their synagogues destroyed, the few hundred Jewish survivors were evacuated to Jerusalem by the British.  Although a small number of Jews returned in 1931, their stay was to prove short-lived as the events of the Arab revolt between 1936-1939 led to the entire Jewish population being removed once more.

The following decade, Israel was established, but Hebron was captured by King Abdullah’s Arab Legion during the 1948 War of Independence and ultimately annexed to Jordan.

Jews only returned to the city in 1968, a year after Israel liberated Hebron from Jordanian control in the Six-Day War.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is expected to visit Israel on Monday and the United Arab Emirates a day later to discuss the recent normalization deal between the two countries. 


Meanwhile, President Trump’s senior adviser, Jared Kushner, will be making a separate, multi-nation visit to the region in the coming days to push for a broader Arab-Israeli rapprochement.

Both trips are aimed at finalizing at least one, and potentially more, peace deals in the near future.

US ‘Reviewing’ Possible UAE F-35 Deal Despite Israeli Concerns

US President Donald Trump confirmed that the United Arab Emirates was seeking to procure “quite a few” fifth-generation F-35 fighter jets. “It’s under review, but they made a great advance in peace in the Middle East,” the US president said while referencing last week’s normalization agreement between Jerusalem and Abu Dhabi.

 

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has in the past opposed the sale of F-35s and other advanced weaponry to any country in the Middle East so that Israel is able to maintain its qualitative military edge.

Mossad Chief Arrives in UAE for Security Talks

Mossad Director Yossi Cohen met with United Arab Emirates National Security Adviser Tahnoun bin Zayed in Abu Dhabi, as Israel and the UAE continued to move to normalize ties. Cohen was a key player in the historic agreement, and became the first senior Israeli official to travel to Abu Dhabi since the deal was announced last week.
