Paris' Jewish community learns of attack after Shabbat
David Barrett is now close to the scene of the second most deadly attack of Friday night, La Belle Equipe, a cafe bar in 92 Rue de Charonne, where 18 people are thought to have died:
Quote
The local Jewish community is waking up to hear the news of Friday's atrocities - many were observing the Shabbat until this morning and did not realise their neighbourhood had been targeted by the gunmen.
Dozens of Jewish people have been attempting to make their way down Rue de Charonne to their synagogue at the other end of the road.
Robert Heymann, a community elder, told The Telegraph: "We came out from our home this morning and we saw the Saturday market, and were shocked to see nobody there.
"Someone stopped us in the street and said what happened, and that all the markets were closed.
"Last night we were observing, so no radio, no TV, no internet."
Mr Heymann said the latest murders would give France a new perspective on terrorist attacks on their soil.
Even January's atrocity at Charlie Hebdo had been written off by some as a "Jewish problem", Mr Heymann said, because it was quickly followed by the hostage-taking at a kosher supermarket, the Hyper Cacher, in which four people died.
"Maybe everybody now understands so this is not just a Jewish problem," he said.
"France itself is attacked.

"Everybody has to wake up that there is this terrorism all over.
"At last, we hope that everybody will wake up.
"It is not just against the Jewish community.
"Before, they said it was a Jewish thing, against Jewish people, a Jewish supermarket.
"The whole thing will change.
"It is not a Jewish problem. It is a French problem."
The Hyper Cacher deli which was targeted in January is just a mile from La Belle Equipe.
Police cordons are in place around the restaurant this morning with armed officers only allowing residents who live inside the cordon to pass through.
Each person allowed through is being escorted to their door by a police officer after their identity papers have been checked.
Life is continuing, but not as normal. Shops are beginning to open their shutters now, at normal opening time.
But small groups of people are gathering at the cordon, some pink-eyed from tears, as they take in the enormity of a mass slaughter in their neighbourhood.

Officials: 128 killed, 99 people critically injured
Reuters reports that French officials have put the provisional death toll at 128 people from the combined attacks, with 180 injured, with 99 people in hospital in critical condition.

Video shows people running from Bataclan
A terrifying video was taken by a Le Monde journalist whose apartment overlooks the emergency exit to the Bataclan concert hall.
You can watch it here - WARNING - graphic content.
The sound of gunfire can be hear, and it shows dead bodies, including one man dragging a body down the street, away from the attacker.
Daniel Psenny, the journalist who filmed, was shot as he went to help. He said: "Sometimes there are evacuations [in the past], but everyone was running out from all directions. I saw people on the floor, and blood... I understood then that it was something serious. I asked passersby what was happening. Everyone was running toward the Rue Amelot or the boulevard Voiltaire.
"A woman was clinging to the window of the Bataclan, on the second floor. I thought of those images from September 11.
"I then went downstairs to open the door to my apartment so people could come in to take refuge, and so I opened the door of the building. There was a man lying on the pavement, and an another man whom I did not see again, he was shot as he was trying to take shelter in the lobby.
"That’s the moment I took a bullet. I don’t remember much after that, I have a blank, but I remember feeling like a firecracker had exploded in my left arm and it was pissing blood. I think the shooter was at the window of the Bataclan. I went up to some neighbours on the fourth floor.
"The guy we did get in [to the apartment] was shot in the leg. He was an American. He vomited, he was cold and we thought he was going to die. We called the emergency services but we could not leave. I called a friend who is a doctor and he explained how to make a tourniquet with my shirt. We were stuck in the apartment until the police raid occurred and they came to find us."

The missing
In the frantic search for missing loved ones, friends and relatives are turning to Twitter and other social media.
Clara R posted on twitter this morning a photograph of her friends Marie and Mathias, who she said were at the Bataclan nightclub where gunmen murdered more than 100 people

Devout Muslims CHEER Paris Slaughter on Social Media
ByPAMELA GELLER on November 14, 2015
Muslim Islamic State supporters on social media cheered the attack on late last night, while the civilized world reeled in horror.

‘This isn’t a lone wolf attack, but a battalion of lions roaring into heart of #France’
Supporters of the Islamic State jihadist group have taken to social media to celebrate the deadly attacks on Paris which left over 120 people dead.

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack which saw eight militants, all wearing suicide vests, bring unprecedented violence to the streets of the French capital, in the bloodiest attacks in Europe since the Madrid train bombings in 2004.

While the attacks are not the firs time IS has targeted France, they do mark the first time France has seen suicide bombings in the streets of its capital, which the group referred to as “the capital of abominations and perversion.”

Using the hashtag , #باريس_تشتعل., which roughly translates to Paris is Fire , thousands of tweets were sent, with some using graphic photos of the attacks.

More than 500 French fighters are thought to be with Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, according to official figures, while 250 have returned and some 750 expressed a desire to go.

Hours after the attacks, one IS user, whose account was later suspended by Twitter wrote “this isn’t a lone wolf attack, but a battalion of lions roaring into heart of #France.”

Another user wrote “if u punch me in the face today and I can’t punch u back.. Might take a week a month a year maybe few years but u will definitely get 1 back.”

Yet another wrote “After Paris comes Rome and Andalus,” using the historical name of Spain while it was controlled by the Muslim Moors.

The al-Nusra al-Maqdisiya, a well-known pro-IS media group based out of Gaza released a number of graphics on Saturday regarding the attacks saying that it was a war by the “Muslims against the Kuffar,” or non-Muslims. Screen Shot 2015-11-14 at 6.49.55 AM

The hashtag was later taken over by those mourning the attacks, with one tweeting “If Paris is burning, you will burn with us; that I do know. Go, and learn to love other humans instead of wasting lives. #باريس_تشتعل”

French officials have often spoken of their fears that hundreds of French citizens thought to be fighting with IS would return to France and launch attacks.

France has taken part in US-led air strikes on IS targets in Iraq for over a year and in September began bombing the jihadists in Syria, claiming to have hit a training camp and an oil installation.
