As Remembrance Weekend approaches, Britain mourns the passing of more than its military heroes

The picture below surely has to be one of the saddest and most telling illustrations of the state of Britain today.

What you are looking is a table set up on Saturday in London’s Charing Cross station, where people could buy poppies to be worn as a lapel pin in the days leading up to Remembrance Weekend in a few days’ time. That’s when the country commemorates British service members who have died in two world wars and other military conflicts since the onset of World War I.

The group selling the poppies are typical of the British people for whom this weekend is a solemn rite of collective memory, an affirmation of the supreme sacrifice that so many have made to defend the nation and its values.

But surrounding them are the ugly faces of the new Britain, those who have poured onto the streets in their tens of thousands to bellow their support for the annihilation of Israel and the murder of Israeli Jews — people who call the genocide of Israeli Jews “resistance” and Israel’s resistance “genocide”.

Yesterday saw the fourth of these weekly demonstrations, which have brought out Muslim-led mobs onto the streets of Britain and other western countries exulting at the barbaric massacre of 1400 Israelis on October 7 and demanding a ceasefire — not by Hamas, which continues its war crimes by firing volleys of rockets every day intended to murder more Israelis, but by Israel which is waging war in Gaza to destroy Hamas and end its criminal onslaught.

The image of those people surrounding the poppy sellers, whose own faces are a picture of pained stoicism, is as obscene as it is frightening. For those demonstrators stand for the barbarism and depravity that the defenders of Britain who are being commemorated by the poppy died in the attempt to defeat.

Indeed, on one of the posters behind the poppy sellers but out of shot in this picture was a swastika, the Nazi symbol which these mobs are so grotesquely trying to pin on the Jewish nation that arose from the ashes of the Holocaust.

In this war against Hamas and Iran, Israel is fighting for its life and the lives of its people against Palestinian Arabs whose forbears allied themselves to Hitler in the thirties and pledged to wipe out every Jew in the Middle East. Today’s Palestinian Arab genocidists display the same depravity. The spectacle of their acolytes in Britain crowding out those who wish to commemorate the British heroes who fought Nazism and aggression against the free world is beyond sickening.

Worse, yet another such demonstration is planned for this coming Saturday, the actual anniversary of the armistice agreement that ended the First World War on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918.

In London, the annual national service of remembrance will be held on Sunday when wreaths are laid at the Cenotaph by the Royal Family and political leaders, there is a two-minute silence and the Last Post is sounded.

There is widespread anger and concern that this fifth anti-Israel, anti-Jewish display is to be allowed on the streets of London; there are fears that these mobs will desecrate the sanctity of either or both days over this Remembrance weekend.

These demonstrations have not just been marked by the chanting of murderous slogans on the approved routes. The mobs have also turned the Tube, railway stations and other public spaces into a theatre of Islamic civilisational warfare, as you can see here, here, here, here, here and here.

What has upset people so much is not just the murderous message of these demonstrations. It’s also the perception that Britain has become unrecognisable, with tens of thousands of people importing a foreign cause to produce menacing behaviour that is an affront to the rule of law and poses a particular threat to Jewish people, in flagrant disregard of public order laws and with the police unable or unwilling to stop it.

What the government doesn’t seem to grasp is that these demonstrations aren’t just a protest about “Palestine” but a jubilant display of Islamist supremacy over the UK, which is being fuelled by exultation over the murder of Israeli Jews and the supine UK response to these open calls for jihad and the associated show of Islamist strength. They represent an ecstatic escalation of the intended subjugation of Britain and the west.

The feebleness of the Metropolitan Police in dealing with this has taken on a more sinister hue than mere incompetence or cowardice, with the revelation that both the Met and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) have been advised on public order by two Muslim extremists.

The Telegraph discovered that a hard-left activist who was filmed leading chants of “from the river to the sea” at a pro-Palestinian rally is an adviser to the Met on its response to the Israel-Hamas demonstrations. The paper reported yesterday:

Attiq Malik, a solicitor who has also railed against “global censorship by the Zionists”, was present in the police operations room during protests last month.

A video uncovered by the Telegraph shows Mr Malik instigating chants of “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” in 2021, a slogan described by Downing Street as “deeply offensive” to many.

“Deeply offensive”? It’s a genocidal call for the extermination of Israel.

Malik is chairman of the London Muslim Communities Forum, which is described on a dedicated page of the Met’s website as a “strategic advisory body for the Met”. The Telegraph reported:

In this capacity, Mr Malik was invited to observe the Metropolitan Police’s response to protests from the force’s operations room in Lambeth, south London, last month. Senior officers in the operations room, overseen by the “gold commander” responsible for policing each march, have been making decisions about whether particular chants or behaviour constitute criminal offences.

Now the Met has said it will “cease taking advice” from Malik because “past language and views” he expressed appear to be “antisemitic and contrary with our values”.

Now they realise that? The Met is beyond clueless. The National Association of Muslim Police, which has also helped with the Met’s operational decision-making, was named in the recent Independent Review of Prevent, the counter-radicalisation programme, for promoting “several individuals and organisations with disturbing views or affiliations”. It has tried to stop the police using terms such as “Islamist” and “jihadist” terrorism, saying the language is Islamophobic.

But the Met are far from the only ones being played by Muslim extremists. Earlier this week David Spencer, a former Detective Chief Inspector with the Met and now head of Crime and Justice at the Policy Exchange think-tank, noted:

In recent weeks, as the Metropolitan Police prepared to deal with some of the biggest protests in London for decades, the force requested clear advice from prosecutors on various detailed scenarios that would assist officers in making operational decisions. The CPS apparently refused. That the CPS is willing to provide reams of advice and policy on everything from hypnosis to hare coursing, but not on what is swiftly becoming one of the defining issues of our time, is astounding.

Maybe this is part of the reason why. Last week, the Telegraph also revealed that a prominent mosque chairman who praised the founder of Hamas is an adviser to the CPS as part of a “scrutiny panel” on hate crime. The paper reported:

Mohammed Kozbar, whom peers were told last week had publicly praised Hamas’s founder as “the master of the martyrs of the resistance”, sits on a panel of community representatives that identify “learning points” for prosecutors and police. Mr Kozbar is deputy secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain, with which Whitehall has had a policy of “zero engagement” since 2009.

A government source said: “The Muslim Council of Britain’s leadership are not advocates for the wider Muslim community and represent a hardline sect hell-bent on dividing our country. They should not be consulted on matters of hate crime — it’s as dangerous as it is farcical.
