Herb Of The Week / Food Poisoning
GINGER, ACTIVATED CHARCOAL, CINNAMON AND APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
The herb of the week newsletter this week will deal with a condition
that almost all of us have experienced, at some point, in some degree
or another. For motion sickness, morning sickness, nausea, sea
sickness and general queasiness try GINGER. Whenever your stomach is
not feeling too great; try ginger. Try a level teaspoon in a tepid
glass of water. It is said to be just as effective or more than the
standard over-the-counter seasick medications.
Your next line of defense is ACTIVATED CHARCOAL to absorb toxins. In
many cases at the emergency room they will give you charcoal to absorb
the toxins when you have accidently ingested some toxic substance.
Charcoal has astounding absorptive capacities. It's been estimated
that one cubic inch of charcoal has the surface area equivalent to a
150,000-square-foot field. Charcoal can be bought at most health food
stores. Be sure to call your doctor or area Poison Control Center
before using activated charcoal to treat any kind of poisoning.
Activated charcoal may cause abdominal pain or swelling. It is also
known to cause problems in those in people who have recently had
surgery.
CINNAMON can help prevent food poisoning. Cinnamon is made from the
bark of the cinnamon tree and it protects the tree from infection.
Simiarly, a teaspoon or two of cinnamon mixed into juice or water may
protect you from food poisoning when you think you may eaten some bad
food. It is thought to protect against the e. coli virus.
Finally APPLE CIDER VINEGAR (RAW and UNFILTERED - not the grocery
store version). Because of the great disinfectant qualities inherent
in apple cider vinegar, some people when suffering from mild cases of
food poisoning use it with success. If you suffer from violent
symptoms, and suspect serious food poisoning, please contact your
medical practitioner immediately.
For making a tonic: 1 tablespoon of applecider vinegar and 1
tablespoon of raw and unfiltered honey in 8 oz of distilled, filtered
or otherwise purified water will make a good morning tonic that will
help to reduce food poisining as well as regulate sugar, reduce
cholesterol, reduce the occurence of gallstones, antibiotic, antiviral
etc. An extremely good tonic.
