An Egyptian man was sentenced to 25 years in an American prison on Friday for conspiring to kill Americans in the 1998 embassy bombings in Africa, which left 224 people dead.

Bary’s son, former London rapper Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary, is believed to have joined extremists fighting in Syria and is one of the men suspected of posing as “Jihadi John”, the masked killed who has appeared in videos showing the decapitations of aid workers and journalists.

In 1997 and 1998, Bary headed the London cell of Egyptian Islamic Jihad – then led by Ayman al-Zawahiri, who is now head of al-Qaeda – and the two groups essentially merged.
Bary passed to journalists al-Qaeda’s claim of responsibility for the bombings of the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, which left more than 5,000 others wounded.
He also passed on threats of future al-Qaeda attacks that were sent from London to media organisations in France, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates the day after the embassy bombings.
The August 7, 1998 car bombing of the US embassy in Nairobi killed 213 people.
A near simultaneous truck bomb outside the US mission in Tanzania killed 11 people and wounded 70 more.
Federal judge Lewis Kaplan told Bary that the sentence would allow him to return to his family and live out the remainder of his life in freedom, a privilege not extended to his victims.
Bary has already spent 16 years in British and US custody.
“I would like to say I feel sorry for all the victims,” he told the judge, speaking through a translator.
“If I could just do something to bring the victims back, I would,” he added.
By pleading guilty, Bary avoided spending the rest of his life behind bars.
His alleged co-conspirator – Saudi exile Khalid al-Fawwaz, the purported chief of the London al-Qaeda cell – is currently on trial in New York.
A third co-conspirator, Libyan defendant Abu Anas al-Libi, died in custody last month from natural causes.

The trial of alleged terrorist recruiter Awso Peshdary promises to turn a spotlight on the Algonquin College Muslim Students Association.
Two of the three people charged this week with terrorism-related offences by the RCMP — Peshdary, 25, and Khader Khalib, 23 — are both former members of the association and took part in its events.
Khalib was charged in absentia because it’s believed the former Algonquin business student is now fighting on behalf of the Islamic State in Syria.
After Peshdary was arrested Tuesday by the RCMP, the Crown sought and received a non-communication order from an Ottawa justice of the peace. Such orders are normally used to prevent an accused person from communicating with victims and witnesses.
The order prohibits Peshdary from communicating with a list of 14 people.
The list includes the names of five other people — Khalib, John Maguire, Ashton Larmond, Carlos Larmond and Suliman Mohamed — whom the RCMP have identified as members of the alleged conspiracy to aid a terrorist group.
The non-contact list issued by the court also includes the names of three executives from Algonquin’s Muslim Students Association, and at least one other former MSA member.
One member of the association, who spoke the Citizen on the condition that his identify remain protected, said he was aware that several of the association’s members were on a Canadian Security Intelligence Service “watch list” last year.
He did not know the identity of those of interest to the authorities, he said, only that there were concerns expressed after a March 2014 event known as Islamic Awareness Week.
“I was informed after that there were several people who were heavily involved in that event that were on the watch by CSIS,” he said.
The former MSA member said he was never approached by anyone about supporting the Islamic State or travelling to Syria.
“I was always clear about my views, and he (Peshdary) always agreed with me: that it’s not legitimate to kill innocent people,” he said.
Samr Farhat was also listed in the non-communication order. In 2010, Farhat collected money to help pay for Pedshary’s legal fees after he was arrested in Project Samossa.
When reached by the Citizen, Farhat said he had no comment but did offer that the RCMP never approached him before the non-communication order was put in place.
Jack Doyle, the general manager of the Algonquin College Students’ Association, said his organization provides funding to the student groups on campus.
Doyle said the MSA received just over $1,000 for the 2013-2014 school year for events such as Islam Awareness Week. So far in 2014-2015 the MSA has received around $500.
The MSA doesn’t receive funding from the college administration.
The Muslim Students Association of the United States and Canada (MSA National) was launched in January 1963 to support international students studying in North America. The association’s first Canadian chapter opened 50 years ago at the University of Toronto.
In the U.S., the student associations came under intense scrutiny in the aftermath of 9/11 as potential sources of radicalization.
The New York Police Department regularly monitored MSA websites and placed undercover officers at student association events for more than a decade after the terror attacks. In 2012, NYPD spokesman Paul Browne defended the approach by noting that 12 people arrested or convicted on terrorism charges in the U.S. had once been members of Muslim student associations.

The White House has finally divulged the names of American Muslim leaders who met with President Obama this week, including Imam Mohamed Magid, who has advised the administration on formulating responses to incidents that Islamists consider offensive.
After stonewalling journalists for two days about the names of the participants at the meeting Wednesday, the White House quietly attached the list of attendees to the end of its daily press briefing transcript Thursday evening.
The guest list identified Imam Magid as a representative of the Adams Center, a large mosque in Sterling, Virginia. He has also served as president of the Islamic Society of North America, according to the group’s website.

Let’s look at this group. What are they working on?They claimed victory in pressuring the already Sharia-compliant LAPD into changing the way it handles Islamic suspicious activity reports. Is counterterror the focus of any of the work MPAC is doing? Go to their website, mpac.org. Is there even one word addressing the tens of thousands of jihad attacks, the oppression of non-Muslims in Muslim countries under the Sharia, Islam’s misogyny and dehumanization of women? Is any of that worthy of mention on their website? No. Their objective is to impose Islam upon the secular marketplace.

The White House said Mr. Obama “reiterated his administration’s commitment to safeguarding civil rights through hate crimes prosecutions and civil enforcement actions” during the meeting, and also discussed countering the Islamic State “and other groups that commit horrific acts of violence, purportedly in the name of Islam.”
The president urged Muslim Americans “to remain civically engaged in their communities,” the White House said.
The Justice Department named ISNA in a court document as an unindicted co-conspirator with other “entities who are and/or were members of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood” during prosecution of a terrorist financing case in 2007 against the Holy Land Foundation, once the largest Muslim charity in the U.S.
A federal judge later ruled that the document should not have been revealed to the public. The ISNA has said that its inclusion in the charitable foundation’s list of unindicted co-conspirators amounted to guilt by association.

“Germany plans to clamp down on the flow of would-be jihadis by making it an offense to travel abroad with the aim of joining the Islamic State group or other extremist organizations.” This is the kind of simple, common-sense measure that all Western countries should have adopted long ago. And those who left should not be allowed to return. Instead, now trained and battle-hardened jihadis are returning from the Islamic State. One carried out a jihad attack at a Jewish museum in Brussels last year. There will be more, thanks to the weakness and fecklessness of our leaders.

BERLIN — Germany plans to clamp down on the flow of would-be jihadis by making it an offense to travel abroad with the aim of joining the Islamic State group or other extremist organizations.
Authorities estimate that about 600 Islamic extremists have left Germany to fight in Syria or Iraq in recent years. Until now, such people could only be prosecuted when they returned to Germany, by which time officials feared they could be battle-hardened and pose a domestic terror threat.
A draft bill, obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press, extends existing laws to cover anyone intending to travel abroad in order to carry out, or train for, a terrorist attack. It complements a recent measure that allows authorities to confiscate the travel documents of Islamic extremists.

A police union official welcomed the bill, but warned it would only be effective if security services are able to obtain sufficient proof to arrest would-be jihadis before they board a plane.
“Intentions and motives take place inside the head of a potential perpetrator,” said Rainer Wendt, chairman of the German Police Union. “That’s why we expect clear-cut laws.”

Wendt also called for greater police powers to retain emails and other data for later use during investigations.
A separate measure would give authorities additional legal firepower to prosecute anyone who funnels even small amounts of money to terrorist groups.
The bill will be debated by Cabinet on Wednesday. It would still need to be passed by Parliament before it becomes law, bringing Germany in line with a 2014 U.N. Security Council resolution.

The Muslim Brotherhood called for “a long, uncompromising jihad” in Egypt just days after a delegation of the Islamist group’s key leaders and allies met with the State Department, according to an official statement released this week.
Just days after a delegation that included two top Brotherhood leaders was hosted at the State Department, the organization released an official statement calling on its supporters to “prepare” for jihad, according to an independent translation of the statement first posted on Tuesday.
The State Department meeting was attended by a deputy assistant secretary for democracy, human rights, and labor and other State Department officials.
The Muslim Brotherhood statement also was issued just two days before a major terror attack Thursday in Egypt’s lawless Sinai region that killed at least 25.
“It is incumbent upon everyone to be aware that we are in the process of a new phase, where we summon what is latent in our strength, where we recall the meanings of jihad and prepare ourselves, our wives, our sons, our daughters, and whoever marched on our path to a long, uncompromising jihad, and during this stage we ask for martyrdom,” it states.
Preparation for jihad is a key theme of the Brotherhood’s latest call for jihad.
An image posted with the statement shows two crossing swords and the word “prepare!” between them. Below the swords it reads, “the voice of truth, strength, and freedom.” According to the statement, “that is the motto of the Dawa of the Muslim Brotherhood.”
The statement also invokes the well-known Muslim cleric Imam al-Bana, who founded the Brotherhood and has called for the death of Jews.
“Imam al-Bana prepared the jihad brigades that he sent to Palestine to kill the Zionist usurpers and the second [Supreme] Guide Hassan al-Hudaybi reconstructed the ‘secret apparatus’ to bleed the British occupiers,” the statement says.
The Brotherhood’s renewed call for jihad comes at a time when current Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is cracking down on the group and imprisoning many of its supporters, who notoriously engaged in violence following the ouster of Brotherhood-ally Mohamed Morsi.
Egypt experts said the timing of this declaration is an embarrassment for the State Department.
“The fact that the Brotherhood issued its call to jihad two days after its meeting at the State Department will be grist for endless anti-American conspiracy theories about a supposed partnership between Washington and the Brotherhood,” said Eric Trager, a fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP). “The State Department should have foreseen what an embarrassment this would be.”…

Israeli officials told Channel 10 on Friday that they are convinced the Obama administration has already agreed to most of Iran’s demands in the P5+1 negotiations over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.
According to unnamed officials, Washington “has given the Iranians 80 percent of what they want” out of the negotiations, Channel 10 is reporting.
Jerusalem officials appear alarmed at the prospect that the United States will soon strike a deal with the Iranian regime that will leave it with a “breakout point” of months before it can gallop toward the bomb.
An Obama administration official dismissed the claims in the Channel 10 report as “complete nonsense.”

Obama Cuts Off Syrian “Rebels” Cash #epicfail
Obama’s disastrous Syrian misadventure is coming to a predictable close. For years, I have warned that the Obama administration was funding, aiding, arming jihadists in Syria. But Howdy Doody and his goosestepping administration insisted that it was all good and that the “rebels” were fighting in defense of freedom. Laughable. Only it isn’t. It was deadly. America’s delusion resulted in the reality of arming the Islamic State. Many an ISIS battle was won with American weaponry.
It took years and how many dead? How many countries, provinces lost for the evil buffoon to withdraw aid to the jihadists?
I am sure that Obama did it for all the wrong reasons. If he cut off aid, it was not to stop funding jihad, but most likely it was done as an act of submission to Iran. Assad is Iran’s proxy.
The Daily Beast is hand-wringing that we didn’t send enough money and arms, never addressing who and what we were arming.
In the past several months, many of the Syrian rebel groups previously favored by the CIA have had their money and supplies cut off or substantially reduced, even as President Obama touted the strategic importance of American support for the rebels in his State of the Union address.
He is just such a bald-faced liar.
The once-favored fighters are operating under a pall of confusion. In some cases, they were not even informed that money would stop flowing. In others, aid was reduced due to poor battlefield performance, compounding already miserable morale on the ground.
From afar, the U.S.-approved and partially American-armed Syrian “opposition” seems to be a single large, if rather amorphous, organization. But in fact it’s a collection of “brigades” of varying sizes and potentially shifting loyalties that have grown up around local leaders, or, if you will, local warlords. And while Washington talks about the Syrian “opposition” in general terms, the critical question for the fighters in the field and those supporting them is, “opposition to whom?” To Syrian President Assad? To the so-called Islamic State, widely known as ISIS or ISIL? To the al Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al Nusra?
That lack of clarity is crippling the whole effort, not least because of profound suspicions among rebel groups that Washington is ready to cut some sort of deal with Assad in the short or medium term if, indeed, it has not done so already. For Washington, the concern is that the forces it supports are ineffectual, or corrupt, or will defect to ISIS or Nusra—or all of the above.
Republican lawmakers in D.C. are at their boiling point over the Obama administration’s anti-ISIS strategy, whether it is a failure to establish a no-fly zone in Syria, or unreliability with the issue of aid, or the Pentagon’s promised train-and-equip plan for the Syrian rebels.
Of course the media do not question Obama’s judgement, strategy or catastrophic failure. It’s a never-mind kind of story.
The fact is Obama’s foreign policy strategy is an incoherent mess. Watch what happens. now,

HATAY, Turkey—It didn’t take long for rebel commanders in Syria who lined up to join a Central Intelligence Agency weapons and training program to start scratching their heads.
After the program was launched in mid-2013, CIA officers secretly analyzed cellphone calls and email messages of commanders to make sure they were really in charge of the men they claimed to lead. Commanders were then interviewed, sometimes for days.
Those who made the cut, earning the label “trusted commanders,” signed written agreements, submitted payroll information about their fighters and detailed their battlefield strategy. Only then did they get help, and it was far less than they were counting on.

Some weapons shipments were so small that commanders had to ration ammunition. One of the U.S.’s favorite trusted commanders got the equivalent of 16 bullets a month per fighter. Rebel leaders were told they had to hand over old antitank missile launchers to get new ones—and couldn’t get shells for captured tanks. When they appealed last summer for ammo to battle fighters linked to al Qaeda, the U.S. said no.
All sides now agree that the U.S.’s effort to aid moderate fighters battling the Assad regime has gone badly. The CIA program was the riskiest foray into Syria since civil war erupted in 2011.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is clinging to power after more than 200,000 deaths blamed on the war. Moderate fighters control only a fraction of northern Syria, while Islamic State and al Qaeda’s official affiliate, the Nusra Front, have gained ground. Last fall, Nusra overran one trusted commander and seized another’s equipment.
Entire CIA-backed rebel units, including fighters numbering in the “low hundreds” who went through the training program, have changed sides by joining forces with Islamist brigades, quit the fight or gone missing.
“We walk around Syria with a huge American flag planted on our backs, but we don’t have enough AK-47s in our hands to protect ourselves,” a leader of the Hazzm Movement, among the most trusted of the trusted commanders, told U.S. lawmakers in a meeting after Nusra’s advances.
The CIA recently stopped offering help to all but a few trusted commanders in Syria. Much of the U.S.’s focus is shifting to southern Syria, where rebels seem more unified but say they get just 5% to 20% of the arms requested from the CIA.
Some Obama administration officials say the covert effort accomplished about as much as it could considering the chaotic circumstances in northern Syria and policy disagreements in Washington and elsewhere.
While the initial goal was to help moderate rebels fight the Assad regime, officials at the White House and CIA didn’t anticipate the rapid rise of Islamic State, which has upended rebel alliances and become the U.S.’s top priority in Syria.
Officials defend the decision to keep the arms pipeline small and tightly controlled, citing concerns that weapons could fall into the wrong hands. “This was consistent with the administration’s legal responsibilities and strongly held views in Congress,” a senior administration official says. Despite the controls, some weapons still wound up on the wrong side.
Critics say the failings might make it harder to win future support from moderate rebels. Pentagon officials are establishing a new program in Syria, and the general in charge of the effort has told lawmakers that he wants to establish more consistent supply lines and provide air support to approved fighters.
But the new mission also calls for building a rebel force to fight Islamic State, not the Assad regime, which will make it tougher for the Pentagon to attract rebel commanders to the program, some U.S. officials say.
“I think we’ve lost our window of opportunity,” says Robert Ford, the State Department’s ambassador to Syria from 2010 to 2014.
Former Rep. Mike Rogers, a Republican from Michigan who led the House Intelligence Committee, says the trickling pipeline of supplies drove some U.S. allies into the arms of Islamists. “We didn’t commit to them, so why should we expect them to commit to us?” he asks.
Rep. Eliot Engel, (D., N.Y.) the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, adds: “We need to get them the materials they need to sustain themselves. It’s the right thing to do.”
This account of the CIA’s program is based on interviews with U.S., Turkish and Arab officials involved in the effort, as well as current and former trusted commanders. CIA officials have trained nearly 5,000 fighters in Syria, but the financial cost is classified and few details have been disclosed publicly.
The CIA program had a rocky start. President Barack Obama balked at the idea in 2012. Officials say he was concerned about a slippery slope that could lead the U.S. into another war. A CIA analysis delivered to the White House predicted the program would make little difference.
Mr. Obama gave the go-ahead in 2013 to proceed on a limited basis, partly in response to prodding from key Arab allies, former U.S. officials say.

Republican and Democratic lawmakers shared the administration’s ambivalence, with some warning they would hold the CIA responsible if guns fell into the wrong hands, according to a former senior U.S. intelligence official. The warnings deepened the agency’s cautious approach.
In northern Syria, the U.S. and its allies created a joint operations center, or Müşterek Operasyon Merkezi in Turkish, to oversee the program. Rebel commanders met with CIA officers at hotels in southern Turkey.
Once the CIA assessed the commanders, they were asked to sign agreements committing their units to using supplies against the Assad regime and maintaining certain accounting standards.
The U.S. intelligence officer who ran the joint operations center, called MOM for short, impressed commanders with his classical Arabic. Once, he singled out a rebel commander who failed to execute a promised mission, asking him to apologize in front of other commanders. The commander was then kicked out of the meeting.
Because U.S. officials concluded that the moderate opposition Free Syrian Army wasn’t able to safeguard U.S. supplies in Syria, the CIA decided to deliver weapons directly to the trusted commanders. Some military officials warned that the CIA risked creating warlords and undermining cohesion in the ranks of local fighters, but the CIA saw no credible alternative.
At meetings, the MOM heard requests for ammunition and then deliberated, often for as long as two weeks. The panel included the CIA and intelligence services from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
According to rebel commanders, by the time many requests were approved, the proposed operation was no longer feasible. If they were told no, they usually weren’t told why.
When some commanders asked for ammo last spring to expand an offensive against the Assad regime that seemed to be going their way, they were rejected with no explanation.
“Why did you give us hope if you were not going to do anything about it?” complains one trusted commander. His frustrated fighters quit the CIA program to join a new alliance with Islamist brigades.
At the end of each month, the commanders submitted payroll information, picking up money a few days later for salaries and administrative expenses. MOM payments were made in cash with $100 bills that commanders said were so new they were hard to count. One rebel commander says the cash his group got fit neatly into a small carry-on bag.
Most CIA-backed fighters made $100 to $150 a month. Commanders made slightly more. Islamic State and Nusra often paid twice as much, making it harder for the trusted commanders to retain fighters.
One trusted commander got fewer than three dozen rifles after asking for more than 1,000. Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia funneled supplies under the table to their favorite commanders, according to U.S. officials and other rebel commanders.
The high point for the trusted commanders came when the CIA decided to supply them with a small number of American antitank TOW missiles to attack the Assad regime’s tanks.
The CIA limited who got TOWs and how many. To get new ones, commanders had to hand over spent missile launchers at a designated border crossing with Turkey.
Trusted commanders also were instructed to film their use of the TOWs in battle so the CIA could monitor them and offer pointers on how to use the missiles more effectively. Commanders got permission later to post some of the videos online as propaganda.
The best TOW missile operators often got paid two to three times as much as regular fighters, commanders say. Bidding wars sometimes broke out between different trusted commanders for the best operators because the CIA gave more missiles to groups using them most successfully.
In other ways, the decision-making process befuddled, disappointed and angered rebel commanders. Last year, Hazzm expanded its arsenal of tanks to three dozen by capturing them from the Assad regime, but couldn’t convince the MOM to provide cash for shells or fuel.
“So they sat,” a Hazzm leader told U.S. lawmakers. A senior U.S. official says complaints about late deliveries and inadequate supplies are common with any large-scale operation.
“If it’s not worth it to them, I guess they could decide not to pick up the stuff,” the U.S. official says. “But that’s never happened.”
Tensions deepened as Islamic State gained strength last year and some trusted commanders began pressing for arms to go after Nusra. U.S. officials said no because they thought fighting Nusra would drain the program’s resources. The Obama administration also was debating whether to expand the CIA effort beyond the Assad regime.
U.S. officials say the Obama administration also was conflicted about Nusra. Aid groups told the State Department that Nusra didn’t interfere with their humanitarian deliveries, while elements of the Free Syrian Army, which included trusted commanders, sometimes did.
Nusra gained money, power and recruits after the U.S. launched airstrikes in September in Syria against Islamic State. In the first wave of strikes, the U.S. also bombed the Khorasan terrorist cell, linked to Nusra. That gave Nusra an opportunity to paint itself as a U.S. target.
Trusted commanders weren’t consulted before the airstrikes, felt betrayed and looked weak for being associated with a U.S. offensive that wasn’t targeting the Assad regime.
After the airstrikes started, Nusra leaders turned against the Syria Revolutionaries Front, or SRF, which got some aid through the covert effort but wasn’t fully trusted by U.S. officials. Leaders of the group and Hazzm had tried unsuccessfully to get weapons from the CIA to go after Nusra.
“Al Qaeda moves faster than the MOM,” a top SRF official says.
The Mountain Hawks group, which also got help from the MOM, decided not to take sides and deployed its forces defensively to keep its U.S.-supplied weapons out of Nusra’s hands, says leader Hasan al-Khalil.
The Fursan al-Haq Brigade made a similar calculation. “If we fight Nusra, then the public will hate us,” a top Fursan leader said.
When Nusra forces surrounded Hazzm’s headquarters at a town in Idlib province called Khan Assubul, some fighters let Nusra pass, rather than fight. Other trusted commanders watched. Some units joined with Nusra.
In a speech at the schoolhouse used as Hazzm’s headquarters, the rebel group’s local commander, Abu Abdullah al Khouli, told his remaining fighters to pack up their things. He had long questioned Hazzm’s participation in the CIA program, claiming the costs outweighed the benefits.
“Leave now,” he told his men, according to an opposition activist who was there. Mr. Khouli told them to pretend to be members of Islamic Front, a brigade aligned with Nusra in some areas, if stopped at a checkpoint.
Hazzm officials say Mr. Khouli was taken prisoner later. They don’t know if he is still alive.
Nusra and its allies took military equipment, included some provided by the CIA, from the captured headquarters. Nusra also seized four or five Syrian tanks. While Hazzm still is in the CIA program, the amount of help it gets has shrunk.
In recent weeks, the Mujahedeen Army, which joined the MOM last summer and sent 50 fighters to Qatar for CIA-backed training, walked away from its partnership for an alliance with Islamic Front.
U.S. officials say the trusted commanders were supposed to be on the same team, but it turned out that “everybody was out for themselves,” according to one senior U.S. official.
Mr. Ford, the former Syria ambassador, asked a Hazzm leader at a recent meeting in Washington why the rebel group had joined the U.S. program.
“We thought going with the Americans was going with the big guns,” the Hazzm leader said, according to people at the meeting. “It was a losing bet.”

The Obama administration on Wednesday paid $490 million in cash assets to Iran and will have released a total of $11.9 billion to the Islamic Republic by the time nuclear talks are scheduled to end in June, according to figures provided by the State Department.
Today’s $490 million release, the third such payment of this amount since Dec. 10, was agreed to by the Obama administration under the parameters of another extension in negotiations over Tehran’s contested nuclear program that was inked in November.
Iran will receive a total of $4.9 billion in unfrozen cash assets via 10 separate payments by the United States through June 22, when talks with Iran are scheduled to end with a final agreement aimed at curbing the country’s nuclear work, according to a State Department official.
Iran received $4.2 billion in similar payments under the 2013 interim agreement with the United States and was then given another $2.8 billion by the Obama administration last year in a bid to keep Iran committed to the talks through November, when negotiators parted ways without reaching an agreement.
Iran will have received a total of $11.9 billion in cash assets by the end of June if current releases continue on pace as scheduled.
The release of this money has drawn outrage from some Republican lawmakers who filed legislation last year to prevent the release of cash due to a lack of restrictions on how Iran can spend the money.
These cash payments by the United States have been made with no strings attached, prompting concerns that Iran could use the funds to finance its worldwide terror operations, which include the financial backing of Hamas, Hezbollah, and other rogue entities.
Senators—including Mark Kirk (R., Ill.), Kelly Ayotte (R., N.H.), and John Cornyn (R., Texas)—sought last year to put a hold on the cash infusions until the White House could certify that Iran was not using the money to support terrorism.
Kirk, who is preparing to offer legislation that would tighten sanctions on Iran, said that the ongoing payments could help Iran fuel its terror empire well into the near future.
“Between November 2014 and July 2015, the interim deal’s direct forms of sanctions relief will allow Iran access to roughly $4.9 billion in frozen money,” Kirk told the Washington Free Beacon “That’s equal to what it’d cost Iran to fund Hezbollah for as much as 50 years.”
The Pentagon estimates Iran has spent $100 to $200 million per year funding Hezbollah.
Entities likely to receive support from Iran include the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and the regime of President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, the legislation suggests.
When final negotiations between the United States and Iran failed in November, negotiators decided once more to extend the talks through June of this year. The terms of that extension granted Iran the 10 payments of $490 million, a State Department official said.
“With respect to sanctions relief, the United States will enable the repatriation of $4.9 billion of Iranian revenue held abroad during the extension,” the official said.
The first two payments were made in December, followed by Wednesday’s payment.
The next release is scheduled for Feb. 11, with two more scheduled for March. The rest of the frozen cash assets will be given back to Iran on April 15, May 6, May 27, and June 22, respectively.
Mark Dubowitz, the executive director of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), said the ongoing release of these assets has provided Iran with a critical “financial lifeline.”
“The Obama administration provided Iran with a financial lifeline through both direct sanctions relief and the de-escalation of sanctions pressure that helped the regime stabilize its economy after a severe sanctions-induced economic crisis in 2012 and 2013,” Dubowitz said. “It is not a surprise that this has increased Iranian negotiating leverage and hardened the supreme leader’s nuclear intransigence.”
In addition to decrying the lack of restrictions in place to ensure that Iran does not use the released funds to sponsor terrorism, critics of the sanctions relief protest that Iran is benefitting while the United States receives little in return.
Iran has continued to enrich uranium under the interim deal, adding what one critic, Rep. Brad Sherman (D., Calif.) referred to as “about one bomb’s worth” to its reserves.
Iran also has continued to make advances on the plutonium track, which provides it with a second path to a nuclear bomb.
President Hassan Rouhani of Iran announced last week that the country has begun constructing two new light water nuclear reactors, a move that the U.S. State Department said is permissible under the terms of the interim agreement.

"The President has no control," Minister of Information Nadia Sakkaf told CNN as clashes raged.
President Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi was thought to be in his private residence at the time -- not in the palace. There were reports of clashes near the residence.
And the Prime Minister's residence was under attack from the street, Sakkaf said.
The regime still controlled the city of Aden, and it closed the port of Aden as well as roads leading into and out of Sanaa, according to Yemeni state TV, controlled by the government.
Power vacuum could benefit terrorist group AQAP
The global stakes are high. Yemen is home to al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP, the terror network linked to such attacks as the recent slaughter at French satirical publication Charlie Hebdo. AQAP also tried to blow up a plane landing in Detroit in 2009.
The battle against AQAP has helped make Yemen's government a U.S. ally in the fight against al Qaeda. A power vacuum often benefits terrorist groups.
The Yemeni government has been grappling with pressure not only from the Sunni Muslim AQAP but also from Houthi militants, Shiite Muslims who have long felt marginalized in the majority Sunni country.
U.S. Embassy vehicle comes under fire
Unknown assailants fired shots Monday night at a U.S. Embassy vehicle in Sanaa, the U.S. Embassy said Tuesday.

The shooters fired first into the air and then turned the guns on the vehicle, the embassy said. The vehicle carried U.S. diplomatic personnel and was at a checkpoint near the embassy at the time. No injuries were reported.
The embassy is known to use SUVs that are recognizable as U.S. government vehicles.
Two U.S. Navy warships moved into new positions in the Red Sea late Monday to be ready to evacuate Americans from the embassy if needed, a U.S. official with direct knowledge of the planning told CNN.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in a statement, called on "all sides to immediately cease all hostilities, exercise maximum restraint, and take the necessary steps to restore full authority to the legitimate government institutions."
Mark Lyall Grant, UK ambassador to the United Nations, said the U.N. special adviser on Yemen, Jamal Benomar, was on his way to Sanaa and would brief the U.N. Security Council from there.
"There's a lot of conflicting reports, but clearly the situation has deteriorated very significantly over the last 48 hours, and that's why the Security Council needs to meet and decide its response," the UK envoy said.

Forty-five churches were torched over the weekend in Niger's capital during deadly protests over the publication of a Prophet Mohammed cartoon by the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, police say.
The protests, which left five people dead and 128 people injured in Niamey, also saw a Christian school and orphanage set alight, said Adily Toro, a spokesman for the national police.

Similar unrest sparked by the French satirical publication, which was targeted by a bloody Islamist raid on January 7, saw five people killed, 45 wounded and the French cultural centre burned in the southern city of Zinder.
"The French flag was burned," Mr Toro said, adding that 189 people, including two minors, were arrested by police.
Demonstrators also pillaged and burned numerous premises, including five hotels and 36 bars.
France's president Francois Hollande said last week anti-Charlie Hebdo protesters in other countries did not understand his country's attachment to freedom of speech.
In the attack on Charlie Hebdo, gunmen killed 12 people, saying they were avenging previous publications of cartoons depicting the prophet.
A week later staff defiantly produced a "survivors' issue" with a new cartoon, winning backing from vocal supporters of freedom of expression, but further provoking Muslims in a number of countries.
On Sunday, some 300 protestors in Niamey defied a ban on further demonstrations, throwing stones at police who fired tear gas at them.
The governor of the capital, Hamidou Garba, said 90 people were arrested.
Muslim elder Yaou Sonna urged people to stop attacking Christians.
"Don't forget that Islam is against violence," he said on state television.
"I urge men and women, boys and girls, to calm down."
Many Muslims, who form an overwhelming majority of Niger's population, see any depiction of Islam's prophet as offensive.

Anti Islam Activist Pamela Geller Plans Counter-Strike at ‘Stand with the Prophet’ Conference
Biz Pac Review) – Pamela Geller is no stranger to controversy, and this Saturday she will show Texas she is ready to defend freedom of speech.

Widely considered an expert in Islamic extremism and a human rights advocate, Pamela Geller announced in an article written for Breitbart News that her organization, the American Freedom Defense Initiative, will host a demonstration against a conference that slaps the label “Islamophobia” on free speech against jihad attacks.

This year’s “Stand with the Prophet” event in Garland, Texas, is aimed at countering the effect of “Islamophobes in America,” organizers said, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

Connections like that make the conference a sham, Geller wrote.
“They say they want to defend Muhammad – which means to silence those who notice that defenders of Muhammad just murdered sixteen people in Paris and tens of thousands worldwide since 9/11,” Geller wrote.
Geller said her group’s counter demonstration will “stand for the freedom of speech against all attempts, violent and stealthy, to impose Islamic blasphemy laws on Americans and stifle criticism of Muhammad and Islam… to stand up against these underhanded attempts to stifle all criticism of Islam, including honest investigations of how jihadists use Islamic texts and teachings to justify Jew-hatred, violence, supremacism and oppression.”

One thing is for certain, Garland will find itself in the media spotlight this Saturday — whether it wants to be or not.

The Oxford University Press has warned its writers not to mention pigs, sausages or pork-related words in children’s books, in an apparent bid to avoid offending Jews and Muslims.
The existence of the publisher’s guidelines emerged after a radio discussion on free speech in the wake of the Paris attacks.
Speaking on Radio 4’s Today programme, presenter Jim Naughtie said: “I’ve got a letter here that was sent out by OUP to an author doing something for young people.
“Among the things prohibited in the text that was commissioned by OUP was the following: Pigs plus sausages, or anything else which could be perceived as pork.
“Now, if a respectable publisher, tied to an academic institution, is saying you’ve got to write a book in which you cannot mention pigs because some people might be offended, it’s just ludicrous. It is just a joke.”
The publishing rules have since been ridiculed amid doubts either Muslims or Jews would be offended by mention of farm animals in a children’s book.
Tory MP Philip Davies said: “How on earth can anyone find the word ‘pig’ or ‘pork’ offensive?
“No word is offensive. It is the context in which it is used that is offensive.”
A spokesman for OUP said: “OUP’s commitment to its mission of academic and educational excellence is absolute.
“Our materials are sold in nearly 200 countries, and as such, and without compromising our commitment in any way, we encourage some authors of educational materials respectfully to consider cultural differences and sensitivities.”

After ignoring the global jihad for the whole of his presidency, his silence amounted to nothing short of support. And that support let to empowerment and jihad success in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and North America.
Now that the Jihad is raging, thanks in large part to his islamophiliac foreign policy, Obama’s solution to the bloodshed and the carnage is — don’t report it. If a tree falls in the woods and the media doesn’t cover it, then it doesn’t make a sound. Obama was elected President, but he behaves like a tinpot dictator.

The White House voiced its objections in 2012 after the magazine’s office were burned by jihadis, followings its publication of anti-jihadi cartoons.
Earnest’s defense of tho 2012 objections came just five days after the magazine’s office was attacked by additional jihadis. Eight journalists, two policeman and a visitor were murdered by two French-born Muslims who objected to the magazine’s criticism of Islam’s final prophet.

Attorney General Eric Holder is in Paris this week to attend a meeting on fighting terrorism, but did not participate in a march with world leaders Sunday to honor the 17 people killed last week in France.
More than 40 world leaders marched arm in arm through Paris to rally for unity and freedom of expression and to honor the victims of the three days of terrorist attacks.
The leaders headed a demonstration of at least tens of thousands of people who converged on the capital after three gunmen last week attacked a newspaper office, kosher supermarket and police.
Among the world leaders attending the event, under extremely tight security, are French President Francois Hollande, British Prime Minister David Cameron, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
Holder is the top Obama administration official to attend the terrorism meeting. There are no known reports of members of Congress attending the event or the meeting.
Speaking from Paris, Holder said in a series of interviews with the Sunday morning news shows in Washington that investigators at this point don’t have “any credible information” to determine which terrorist group was responsible for the attacks in Paris.
He also said the White House will hold a summit Feb. 18 in Washington on terrorism.
Al Qaeda’s branch in Yemen has said it directed the attack by two brothers against a newspaper that lampooned Islam and other religions, and the gunman in the hostage-taking at a kosher market is seen in a new video pledging allegiance to the Islamic State group.
Holder says both terrorist groups pose a threat to the United States and its allies.

A closely-knit network of Islamist extremists who would meet in a suburban park was responsible for the three days of bloody mayhem across Paris.

Amedy Coulibaly, 32, who on Thursday shot dead Clarissa Jean-Philippe, a 27-year-old policewoman, staged an assault on a Jewish supermarket which left four shoppers dead on Friday.
Coulibaly was killed when police stormed the Hyper Cacher at Port de Vincennes on Friday evening, but his girlfriend, Hayat Boumeddiene, 26, remains at large and is described by French judicial police as “armed and dangerous”.

Coulibaly had reportedly demanded that Chérif and Saïd Kouachi – the brothers behind the Charlie Hebdo massacre of 12 people – be “freed”.

But the two brothers were also shot dead by police at the climax of a separate siege outside Paris, where they had taken one man hostage at a printing plant at Dammartin-en-Goële.

All three jihadists were members of the Buttes-Chaumont network of extremists that would gather in the Parisian park of the same name in the 19th arrondissement in the east of the city.

The network radicalised youngsters into militant Islam and during the early 2000s sent several to fight in Iraq. Like the Kouachi brothers, Coulibaly was also an associate of Djamel Beghal, an al-Qaeda terrorist once based at Finsbury Park Mosque, north London, where he learnt at the feet of Abu Hamza — who was sentenced in the United States to life for terrorism on Friday.

One of 10 children and the only boy, Coulibaly became a delinquent at 17 and a repeat offender for petty thefts and drugs crimes, moving on to an armed bank robbery in September 2002 in Orléans, in the Loiret, before being radicalised. In 2009, while working at a Coca-Cola factory, he was one of a group of young people who met Nicolas Sarkozy at the Elysée Palace.

In 2013, he was sentenced to five years in prison for his involvement in a botched prison break-out of Smaïn Ali Belkacem, a former member of the Algerian Islamist group GIA and the mastermind of a 1995 attack on the Paris transport system.

The Kouachi brothers were detained for involvement in the Belkacem breakout, but later released due to lack of evidence.

According to Le Monde, Coulibaly and Boumeddiene were in a relationship in 2010, when he was arrested over the jailbreak attempt. She reportedly waited for her boyfriend to be released this spring after four years in detention, and he lived with her after that in a Paris suburb.

The pair reportedly visited Beghal in 2010 in Cantal, southern France, where he was under house arrest. That year, French surveillance officers photographed Beghal playing football with Chérif Kouachi and two convicted terrorists, Ahmed Laidouni, a jihadist recruiter, and Farid Melouk, an Algerian member of the GIA terror group.

The Kouachi brothers spent their teenage years at a centre for troubled and vulnerable youngsters. In 1994, following the deaths of their parents, the boys, then 14 and 12, were sent by Paris social services to live at the Centre des Monédières, in Treignac, Correze, central France.

Patrick Fournier, the centre’s director, told La Montagne newspaper the pair were “perfectly integrated” and “never posed behavioural problems” during their stay

More Muslim reactions to Charlie Hebdo slaughter. There millions of Muslims who are celebrating. But we are prohibited from addressing, recognizing, or acknowledging this brutal reality. Instead, our response in these escalating acts of jihad is to — congratulate and laud the Muslims who don’t want to kill us.

What’s more depraved? Bloodlust sanctioned by a religious imperative or the West’s respect for this savagery? Not one major mainstream media publication ran those silly cartoons. The barbarians are at the gate and the left has flung open the doors.

Reactions On Twitter To Attack On ‘Charlie Hebdo’ – Including Hashtags #Paris Is Burning, #Vengeance For [Insulting] Allah’s Messenger, #Lone Wolves Are Terrorizing France, MEMRI, January 8, 2015
Following the deadly January 7, 2015 attack at the office of the Charlie Hebdo satirical weekly in Paris, several new hashtags in Arabic were tweeted tens of thousands of times on Twitter – including #Charlie Hebdo[1], #Paris Is Burning,[2] #Vengeance For [Insulting] The Prophet,[3] #France Attack Is Vengeance For [Insulting] Allah’s Messenger,[4] and #The Lone Wolves Are Terrorizing France.[5]

Many of those tweeting the hashtags, some of them supporters of the global jihad, including Islamic State (ISIS) and Al-Qaeda, welcomed the attack and justified it as vengeance for the weekly’s insult to the Prophet Muhammad, that is, its publication of cartoons mocking him. Many praised the attackers, calling them heroes, and even warned that similar attacks would be coming soon. Others rejected the claim that the publication of cartoons about the Prophet Muhammad constituted freedom of expression; some even quoted the late Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden’s statements threatening attacks in response to the freedom to insult Islam.

In contrast, many condemned the attack, calling the perpetrators’ crime despicable, not representative of the true Islam, and a distortion of the image of Islam and Muslims in the West. They also condemned the extremist Muslims who are encouraging such actions.

This paper will review tweets published under these hashtags on January 7-8, 2015. It should be noted that these are tweets by individuals and that official reactions to the attack in the Arab media will be reviewed in an upcoming MEMRI report.

Revenge For Cartoons Of The Prophet Muhammad: ‘This Is The Punishment Of Anyone Insulting The Prophet‘

As noted, among the hashtags launched on Twitter were #Vengeance For [Insulting] The Prophet and #France Attack Is Vengeance For [Insulting] Allah’s Messenger. Many users who rejoiced at the attack said that it was vengeance for Charlie Hebdo’s cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, which constituted a grievous insult.

“New_sharurah2″ tweeted: “We have not avenged the [insult] to the Prophet, but have [only] begun our vengeance. This vengeance will be incomplete until we have exterminated them and all their governments. Allah is fighting them and has humiliated them. #Vengeance For [Insulting] Allah’s Prophet.”

Dr. Jassem Al-Kenane tweeted: “As vengeance for the [insult] to the prophet, France’s jihad fighters carried out an attack. Anyone who attacks the Messenger of Allah will receive more than that in return. #Vengeance For [Insulting] Allah’s Prophet”

@qazpjQ tweeted: “#Vengeance For [Insulting] Allah’s Prophet. Our Prophet Muhammad PBUH must not be mocked; our religion must not be mocked; we have brought you people who love martyrdom while you love life; you have been warned”

“Abu ‘Ahed” tweeted: “Paris is burning, and Europe trembles! Because he who displays hostility towards the best of creation [i.e. the Prophet Muhammad] – his life is in danger. #Charlie Hebdo #Vengeance For [Insulting] Allah’s Prophet”

@ymn8888 tweeted: “#France Attack Is Vengeance For [Insulting] Allah’s Messenger. Anyone who permits himself to curse Allah or our Prophet PBUH [must know] that Islam [today] has a state [i.e. ISIS] and that it will not let him go unpunished.”

@ra29is tweeted: “He who was silent when they mocked the Prophet, and did not care, is the same as he who hastened to condemn and denounce the vengeance against them when it came. #Charlie Hebdo, #Vengeance For [Insulting] Allah’s Prophet”

Praising The Perpetrators, Justifying The Attack, Threats Of Additional Attacks

Many tweets expressed joy at the attack, praised the attackers as “heroes,” “men,” and “knights of Islam.” Some threatened additional attacks in the near future, stating that “this is just the beginning”; others expressed rage that the West allows insults to Islam on the pretext of “freedom of expression” and accused it of hypocrisy.

One tweet included the photos of two of the perpetrators, and added, “About them, we will say that they are men. #Charlie Hebdo”
@Is_omar88 tweeted a photo of the attackers in action, and wrote: “May your hands be blessed, knights of Islam. #Paris Is Burning”

@alfreed2022 tweeted: “They [Charlie Hebdo cartoonists] attacked our honorable Prophet, and therefore Allah brought them [punishment] that they never thought of..Praised be Allah who has shown us a black day for them. I am nearly beside myself with happiness. #Charlie Hebdo”

“Mohand” tweeted: “No condemnation or denunciation… I am pleased. #Charlie Hebdo”

“Ibrahim Al-Adawi” tweeted: “The #Charlie Hebdo operation is only a headline for what is yet to come…”

Al-Nusra Al-Maqdasiyya, a Twitter account of ISIS supporters in Gaza, commented: “#France Attack Is Vengeance For [Insulting] Allah’s Messenger – [this attack] was not the last!! Every Crusader country must prepare to receive its share in the sacred vengeance operations… Wait!”

@Saidboragba tweeted, “THE FIGHTING HAS JUST BEGUN #Paris Is Burning” along with an image captioned, “By Allah, the fighting begins right now. #Charlie Hebdo”

Another tweet featured an image of an ISIS flag with the Eifel Tower in the background, the hashtag #Paris Is Burning” and the caption “We are everywhere” in English and French

@aliexex11 tweeted: “I am praying, say Amen: Allah, protect the jihad fighters. Allah, protect them with your never-closing eye. Allah, direct their shooting and make Paris catch fire. #Paris Is Burning.” The tweet included an image from the footage of the attackers shooting a Paris police officer during the attack.

“Abu Al-Qassem Al-Najdi” tweeted: “#Charlie Hebdo. Paris is burning against the followers of Christianity. May everyone know that we will avenge [the insult] to our religion, whether it takes a long time or a very short time”

“Miraa” tweeted: There is no tolerance for anyone harming the Prophet, PBUH. Oh stupid Arabs, apology and [your] exaggerated [attempts at] idealism are what caused the West to tread on us. #Charlie Hebdo”

@sshm_0 tweeted: “#Paris Is Burning. Crusader France has banned the hijab, fought the Muslims in Mali and Afghanistan, and been hostile towards Islam and its people, and made things difficult for them…”

“Abu Moussa Al-Shami” tweeted: “To reiterate the words of Osama bin Laden, Allah have mercy upon him: ‘If there is no limit to your freedom of expression, may your hearts also expand [to accept] our freedom of action ”

“Abu Omar” tweeted: “If your insult to our religion and our Prophet PBUH is [part of] freedom of thought and expression, then may your hearts also expand [to accept] our freedom of action and our ways of expression! #Charlie Hebdo”

@al_barqy tweeted: “I want to thank the heroes who carried out the massacre of the infidels who insulted our Prophet Muhammad PBUH. We are sick of the hypocrisy and the fake humanitarianism. #Charlie Hebdo”

Dr. Salim Al-Khammash tweeted: “Hypocrisy, hypocrisy. High-flown talk about freedom of expression and they insult the Prophet and religions on this pretext. However, they imprison those who doubt the scope of the Jewish Holocaust. What kind of contradiction is that?! #Charlie Hebdo”

He added, in a subsequent tweet: “Holocaust denial gets you in prison in Germany, France, Belgium, America, Switzerland, and Israel. What freedom [of expression] are they bragging about [?] Do they condemn Israel’s crimes? #Charlie Hebdo”

Abdallh Al-Abdani tweeted: “The Jewish lobby continues to insult Islam and the Muslims – [are the ones] who are apologizing!!! #Charlie Hebdo”

Denouncing The Attack – It Does Not Represent Islam

In contrast, many used the same hashtags to denounce the attack, stating that it does not represent the true Islam and even distorts the image of Islam and the Muslims in the West. Following are examples:

Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi tweeted: “The attackers at the Charlie Hebdo newspaper shouted ‘We have avenged the Prophet Muhammad.’ Allah will denounce you, do not use your terrorism in the name of my beloved Prophet Muhammad… [the] Prophet of mercy #Charlie Hebdo”

Khashoggi subsequently criticized those who justified the attack, tweeting: “Those who justify the killing and the takfir will try today to justify the #Charlie Hebdo attack… Our battle with terrorism is long, as long as some of us justfy it [i.e. terrorism]”

@SamaaYahoo responded to claims that the attack was vengeance for the insult to the Prophet, tweeting: ” This is not #Vengeance For [Insulting] The Prophet. If you understood the religion of the Prophet properly, you would not act this way. Then you still ask why the West says that the Muslims are terrorists”

@Daikirik tweeted about the claim that the attack was vengeance for the insult to the Prophet Muhammad: “#Vengeance For [Insulting] The Prophet. They did not take vengeance for [the insult to] the Prophet – they slaughtered [the image of] Islam and of the Muslims in the West”

@Majid_Alhazmi tweeted: “#Charlie Hebdo. This attack in no way represents Islam and the Muslims. We ask the mighty Allah to grant victory to Islam and its people who are moderate everywhere”

Ibrahim Al-Musalem tweeted a clip from YouTube showing cleric Muhammad Al-‘Arifi saying that the Prophet Muhammad would kill anyone who opposed him, and wrote: “Then they wonder where these ideas came from”

Dr. ‘Abd Al-‘Aziz Al-Qenaei pointed at the hypocrisy of the Muslim preachers living in Europe, tweeting: “The preachers in the mosques in Europe and Paris enjoy the good things that Western democracy brings. But ultimately, their prayers fall upon the West as curses, invective, and [wishes] for its perdition #Charlie Hebdo”

Some expressed shock that murder was committed because of cartoons. Saudi journalist and columnist for the Saudi government daily ‘Okaz Khalaf Al-Harbi tweeted: “The killing of the journalists is a despicable crime. Words are answered with words, not bullets”

“Saudi Atheist” wrote: “#Charlie Hebdo… The newspaper [published] cartoons mocking Christianity and Judaism – why do only the Muslims kill?”

@Safa_78 tweeted: “#Vengeance For [Insulting] The Prophet. Did those cartoons make a child die of cold or hunger? Did they harm anyone? Did they cause murder or expulsion, as the [preachers’] pulpits of incitement have?”

@LinaMaani tweeted: “Killing innocent people just because you don’t agree with them shows how inhuman and far from Islam you are “#Vengeance For [Insulting] The Prophet”

French police stormed a Paris supermarket on Friday to end a siege by gunman Amedy Coulibaly who held dozens hostage.
Footage released by France 2 shows armed police entering the shop as a grenade appears to erupt and hostages flee. The siege was linked to the Charlie Hebdo killings in the capital earlier this week.
Coulibaly was later killed, it was reported. Paris police released a photo of Coulibaly and his wife, Hayat Boumeddiene, who the official said was an accomplice.
Several people who were wounded when the gunman opened fire in the grocery store fled and got medical care, officials said. Minutes before police stormed both sites, Coulibaly had threatened to kill his five hostages if authorities launched an assault on the two brothers, a police official said.

A journalist has revealed how she was spared death by the terrorists who attacked Charlie Hebdo because she is a woman.
Reporter Sigolène Vinson survived yesterday’s attack on the Paris office of the weekly French satirical magazine in which 12 people, including two police officers, were shot dead.
Ms Vinson told Radio France Internationale that one of the killers aimed his gun at her but decided against taking her life.
She said the man told her: “I’m not killing you because you are a woman and we don’t kill women but you have to convert to Islam, read the Qu’ran [sic] and wear a veil.”
She added that as the man left, he shouted “Allahu akbar, allahu akbar.”
Cartoonists Georges Wolinski, Stephane Charbonnier, Bernard Verlhac and Jean Cabut were among 10 employees gunned down during an editorial conference at the magazine’s office.

The human rights organization American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) has unveiled an 18-point platform for preserving and defending free societies. The Platform for Defending Freedom is the fruit of the International Freedom Defense Congress of the international group Stop Islamization of Nations (SION), which was held in New York City at the UN Millennium Plaza Hotel on September 11, 2012, and is rendered urgent in the wake of the raging global jihad.
AFDI Executive Director Pamela Geller said in a statement: “After deliberation and consultation with our international SION President’sCouncil and our colleagues, we have developed these eighteen points to help freedom fighters focus on solution to the threat at hand. AFDI calls for the U.S. and other non-Muslim governments to recognize officially that Islam is a political movement and so not solely religious in the strict sense of the U.S. Constitution. The enemedia is consistent. It is always aligned with the jihad force. I was harshly criticized for pointing that out, but every day’s coverage proves me right again.

A dozen people may have been murdered by Islamic terrorists in Paris Wednesday morning, but The New York Times can’t help but note the real tragedy behind the shooting: the growth of Islamophobia.

The attack on French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo for its publication of images of Muhammad is “sure to accelerate the growth of anti-Islamic sentiment in Europe, feeding far-right nationalist parties like France’s National Front,” frets Times reporters Steven Erlanger and Katrin Bennhold in an article entitled “Paris Attack Reflects a ‘Dangerous Moment’ for Europe.”

To be clear, the “dangerous moment” in the headline refers not to the murder of a dozen Parisians (including a Muslim cop), but the friction between “supporters of jihadist organizations and the white working class increasingly feeling disenfranchised and uncoupled from elites.”

They also quote Peter Neumann of King’s College London saying that “large parts of the European public are latently anti-Muslim” and that the hardest hit are “the ordinary normal Muslims who are trying to live their lives in Europe.”

Meanwhile, how do the Times reporters characterize the ACTUAL publication of the Muhammad cartoons by the victims, an act they openly said could cost them their lives? As a “raucous, vulgar and sometimes commercially driven effort to offend every Islamic piety…”

.The Mirror is reporting that the gunman did escape the scene. There are conflicting reports as to whether a suspect has been arrested.Some French media claim one gunman was apprehended at the scene and is in custody, while another fled via the Metro.
The man is 52-years-old and was wearing a bulletproof vest, and had a handgun and a machine gun, sources suggest.
“Around 8:09 he shot towards the police officers who were at the scene for a road incident,” said Mr Cazeneuve.“The police woman – who is in very critical condition – was shot in the back.”
The France and the UK better start arming their cops. That is madness. Sheer madness. The citizenry needs to be armed.

President Obama has once again gone to extraordinary lengths to make sure not to associate Islam with the deadly attack against the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo despite the Islamic chants and exhortations of the jihadists during the massacre.

This is of course consistent with his sharia-adherent policies. Obama has a long history of whitewashing and scrubbing jihad — from Fort Hood, the Islamic State, the Oklahoma beheading, Benghazi, and on and on. Why? Why did he warn us that “the future does not belong to those who slander the prophet Muhammad.

”Where is his allegiance? Either Obama is not-so-secretly a jihad sympathizer or he’s a believer. It’s one and the same. No one in their right mind can justify the unjustifiable. But Obama does does just that.

In response to the attack on the Paris magazine that published editorial cartoons mocking Islam, President Obama reluctantly classified it as an act of terrorism while refusing to associate it with Islam.

“I strongly condemn the horrific shooting at the offices of Charlie Hebdo magazine in Paris that has reportedly killed 12 people,” Obama said in a carefully worded statement released by the White House press office.“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this terrorist attack and the people of France at this difficult time. France is America’s oldest ally and has stood shoulder to shoulder with the United States in the fight against terrorists who threaten our shared security and the world.”
In an interview with CNN, however,White House press secretary Josh Earnest even avoided calling the attack “terrorism,” the Weekly Standard noted.

The CNN host asked: “Josh, when you talk about countering the message, you keep using the word violence. I mean, this is an act of terrorism, that’s what the president of France called it — an act of terrorism. You’re referring to ISIS and other bad actors, it doesn’t really matter who it is at the end of the day. You know you’re fighting a very large group of people of somewhat similar concern. Under the influence of a radical Paris preacher, however, he decided that fighting American troops in Iraq presented a better outlet for his commitment to jihad.

On Wednesday, Mr. Kouachi, according to investigators, returned to his original plan of waging holy war in France. Along with his older brother Said and a third French Muslim of North African descent, he was named as one of three who were involved in an assault on a satirical newspaper in Paris that left at least 12 people dead.

Chérif and Said, ages 32 and 34, are suspected of being the masked gunmen who entered the offices of the Charlie Hebdo newspaper at 10 Rue Nicolas-Appert in the 11th Arrondissement on Wednesday morning and slaughtered members of the paper’s staff and two police officers with Kalashnikov automatic weapons.

Several videos showing the gunmen outside the office of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical newspaper, have surfaced online. The footage includes scenes of graphic violence.
According to the authorities, the third and youngest suspect, Hamyd Mourad, 18, drove the getaway car. Mr. Mourad turned himself in late Wednesday at a police station in Charleville-Mézières in northern France. Le Point, a leading French newsmagazine, said that the two brothers had both been known by the intelligence services, and that Mr. Mourad was unemployed. This was a military strike in the heart of Paris.

I can tell you one thing for certain, there was a hell of a lot more people involved then just the three that have been identified.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls says there were “several arrests” overnight in the hunt for two terror suspects after a deadly shooting Wednesday at a French satirical weekly newspaper that left 12 people dead.The suspected terrorist shooters are brothers, one of whom is well known to French law enforcement. Cherif Kouachi, now 32, served 18 months in prison on terrorism charges in 2008.

A third suspect, an 18-year-old man, surrendered at a police station in Charleville-Mezieres, a small town in France’s eastern Champagne region, Paris prosecutor’s spokeswoman Agnes Thibault-Lecuivre said.A bulletin issued by police included the names, ages and photos of the two suspects, whom they described as “armed and dangerous.” The bulletin requested anyone with information about the location of the two men to contact police, after a lead in the city of Reims proved fruitless.

Wednesday’s horrific attack on the Paris offices of Charlie Hebdo left 8 journalists and two police officers dead, and at least 11 people wounded after three gunmen, wearing hoods and armed with Kalashnikov automatic rifles, stormed the building shouting Islamic phrases. The publication is a satirical newspaper that has caricatured the prophet Mohammed.President

Francois Hollande called the attack a terrorist act “of exceptional barbarism,” and said other attacks have been thwarted in France in recent weeks.
