Israeli supreme court judge narrowly dodges carjacking
 October 15, 2018
Israeli supreme court judge narrowly dodges carjackingDavid Mintz, on June 13, 2017. (Yonatan Sindel/Flash90)
Israeli Supreme Court Judge David Mintz sped away from three Palestinians armed with hammers who tried stopping his car.

By Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News

Supreme Court justice David Mintz narrowly avoided injury and a possible carjacking Monday when a car suddenly blocked the road as he traveled from his home in Samaria to the Jerusalem courthouse.

He reported to police that he was driving on Route 463 from Dolev, his hometown in the Benjamin region, when a Palestinian car swerved in front of him blocking his way. Three men jumped out and started running toward him with hammers. Mintz says he threw his car into gear and sped past their car to escape.
Motives unknown
The police are investigating the incident. It is unknown at this time whether the assailants targeted Mintz specifically out of political motives, or if they were criminals who had done so randomly. Whether they intended to target passengers or their vehicles is also unknown.

Six people were reported injured overnight in a rocket attack from Gaza and Israel’s retaliatory airstrikes. Israel also shut down border checkpoints and imposed more restrictions on fishing off the Gaza coast in response.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said it conducted airstrikes in Gaza on Wednesday after a rocket attack on the Israeli city of Be’er Sheva. One of the rockets that came from the Palestinian side landed near a house, causing some damage and injuring three people, Israel Radio reported, citing medical officials.

The IDF retaliation targeted eight locations in Gaza. According to Palestinian health officials, three people were injured in Rafah by an Israeli airstrike. The IDF claimed that its airstrikes prevented a new rocket attack on Israeli territory.

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman ordered the closure of two Gaza border checkpoints and enforce a smaller-than-regular three-nautical-mile limit for Palestinian fishing boats in response to the rocket fire.

The latest escalation in tensions comes after months of Palestinian protests on the Gaza border, which prompt the IDF to engage the rioters with deadly force. More than 204 Palestinians have been killed and over 22,000 others injured by Israeli forces since the Great March of Return began on March 30.

On Tuesday, Lieberman noted that Tel Aviv is "not prepared to accept the level of violence" witnessed every week. He also urged the cabinet to authorize a military campaign against Hamas in Gaza to put end to violence.

The last major Israeli intrusion into Gaza began in July 2014, when the IDF launched  Operation Protective Edge with the stated aim of halting rocket attacks on Israeli territory. The seven-week long conflict is estimated to have claimed over 2,100 Palestinian lives, with another 10,000 injured in the offensive.

Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip has also caused widespread damage to homes and infrastructure. For its part Israel lost seven of its soldiers and five civilians from Hamas rocket fire. Another 469 IDF soldiers and 261 Israeli civilians were injured.

Israel to Open Embassy in Rwanda, Deepening African Diplomatic Partnerships
https://unitedwithisrael.org/israel-to-open-embassy-in-rwanda-deepening-african-diplomatic-partnerships/?
International isolation? The latest Israeli embassy to open in an African country will be located in the capital of Kigali.

By: Ariel Kahana and Israel Hayom Staff via JNS

Israel will open an embassy in the central African state of Rwanda in 2019. The new embassy will be located in the capital, Kigali.

Although the two countries have maintained diplomatic relations for years, contacts have been held via the Israeli Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Foreign Ministry officials support the move, which is now pending final approval from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is also the acting foreign minister.

Rwanda maintains an embassy in Tel Aviv.

Diplomatic relations between the countries are close and include, among other exchanges, security cooperation and Israeli weapons exports to Rwanda. Additionally, Israel has sought to send a portion of the illegal African migrants in the country to Rwanda, although efforts have thus far failed due to internal pressure on the Rwandan government to oppose the measure.

The issue of opening an embassy in Rwanda was first raised in 2016, when Netanyahu visited the country and promised that Israel would open a mission there. The prime minister has repeated that promise several times, but now, with the closing of the Israeli Embassy in Paraguay, a quota for a new embassy was made available.

In September Netanyahu ordered the closure of Israel’s embassy in Paraguay after the Latin American nation’s new government reversed its decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Rwandan President Paul Kagame visited Israel in July 2017, when he met with Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin.

Thriving Cooperation with Africa
“The cooperation between our countries is thriving in many fields, including technology, agriculture, energy and security. We appreciate what Israel has to offer us in these areas and in other areas, and we are very happy to work with you. Rwanda is open for business, and we look forward to welcoming private sector delegations from Israel even more frequently in the future,” he said at the time.

Knesset member Michael Oren on Sunday praised Netanyahu for the embassy plan.

“Congratulations to Prime Minister Netanyahu for his diplomatic accomplishments, thanks to which Israel will be opening its first embassy in Rwanda,” he tweeted.

Netanyahu has made improving relations with African nations a priority.

In his address to AIPAC in March 2016, Netanyahu observed that Israel has “diplomatic relations with 161 countries, more than at any time in our history.”

In July 2016, he made a historic trip to East Africa, where he visited Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Ethiopia. Weeks later, the Republic of Guinea, a Muslim-majority African nation, restored diplomatic ties with Israel after a 49-year break.

In August, Senegal and Guinea, two Muslim-majority West African nations, sent their first-ever full-time ambassadors to Israel.

Israel has a long history of sharing its expertise with African countries, and Jerusalem hopes that stronger ties will lead to a shift in voting trends at the UN and other global forums, thus reversing what Netanyahu has labeled the “automatic majority against Israel.”

For the second time in a year, Israeli teams will land in Florida to offer relief to hurricane victims.
By: Israel21C
Humanitarian organization IsraAID is sending volunteers to northwest Florida; teams already helping in North Carolina, Philippines and Indonesia.

Israeli humanitarian NGO IsraAID is preparing to deploy an emergency response team to northwest Florida, which has suffered brutal devastation from Hurricane Michael since it made landfall on Wednesday.

Several people have been killed and thousands evacuated from their homes as the category-four hurricane damaged and destroyed houses, hospitals, roads and water systems across the Florida panhandle.

IsraAID’s team in Florida will collaborate with Team Rubicon, an international disaster response organization founded by US military veterans, to aid the return of survivors of Hurricane Michael to their homes. IsraAID also is working with Team Rubicon in North Carolina to remove debris and restore the homes of people forced to evacuate by Hurricane Florence last month.

American volunteers are being recruited to join the IsraAID effort.

“This will be the second time in just over a year that we have responded to an emergency in the state, after Hurricane Irma hit last September,” said IsraAID co-CEOs Yotam Polizer and Navonel Glick. “Our team will remain in the area to help people affected by this devastating storm for as long as we are needed.”

IsraAID also has emergency response teams on the ground in the Philippines and Indonesia.

Last year, IsraAID provided disaster relief to communities affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Maria and Irma in Texas, Puerto Rico and Florida; and by wildfires in Santa Rosa, California.

In Houston, the organization is piloting a project to map community vulnerability to future disasters, while in Puerto Rico the team is providing long-term access to safe water and developing community response to the psychological and social impact of Hurricane Maria.

After the initial emergency period ends, IsraAID transitions towards supporting a long-term, sustainable recovery, based on an assessment of need and in partnership with the local community.

As of 2018, IsraAID has responded to crises in 47 countries, and currently has programs in 18 countries.

Netanyahu, Liberman Warn Full-Scale War With Hamas ‘Inevitable’
“We have reached the moment – we must strike Hamas with the hardest blow… War is inevitable,” Liberman said.
https://unitedwithisrael.org/netanyahu-liberman-warn-full-scale-war-with-hamas-inevitable/?utm_source=pushengage&utm_medium=pushnotification&utm_campaign=pushengage
By: Ilanit Chernick/TPS
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman warned Sunday that war with Hamas in Gaza was drawing ever closer.

Speaking at the beginning of the weekly Cabinet meeting Sunday, Netanyahu said that “Hamas has yet to get the message that if it fails to stop its aggression it will be halted through other means and it will be painful, very painful.”

Netanyahu’s comments came after mass protests on Friday, during which several Palestinians breached the border fence and attacked an IDF position. Five Palestinians were killed in the incident and two more were killed during the violent protest along the border fence.

“We are very close to taking the kind of action that will include very painful strikes. If Hamas has any sense it will stop,” Netanyahu added.

‘Hamas is Responsible for Everything that is Happening’
Liberman was even more forceful warning that war with Gaza had become “inevitable.”

Liberman told the Hebrew language Ynet website that “We have reached the moment – we must strike Hamas with the hardest blow. We have made every effort and exhausted every possibility… War is inevitable.”

“Hamas has turned violence on the fence into a strategic weapon by which they hope to erode our ability to withstand and deter,” he told Ynet. “We have reached the moment that we have to strike the hardest blow possible on Hamas, but…the cabinet will have to decide.”

Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan also weighted in on the issue in an interview with Israel Radio, saying that: “Hamas is responsible for everything that is happening. If, in the coming days, we do not reach an understanding and quiet does not resume [on the Gaza border], there is a considerable probability of a major campaign.”

Nearly seven months of continued violence along the Gaza border have daily incendiary arson attacks that have destroyed thousands of acres of land in southern Israel and caused millions of shekels worth of damages.

Violent weekly mass demonstrations along the border have seen Palestinian breach the border fence on several occasions, attack Israeli military positions and vandalize security infrastructures.

Some 200 Palestinians have been killed, while one Israeli soldier was killed by sniper fire.

Ancient Stone With Full Spelling of Jerusalem Thrills Archaeologists
https://unitedwithisrael.org/ancient-stone-with-full-spelling-of-jerusalem-thrills-archaeologists/?utm_source=pushengage&utm_medium=pushnotification&utm_campaign=pushengage
Second Temple era
“As a resident of Jerusalem, I am extremely excited to read this inscription, written 2,000 years ago, especially when I think that this inscription will be accessible to every child that can read and uses the same script used two millennia ago.”

By: Aryeh Savir, World Israel News

Archaeologists uncovered a unique stone inscription dating back to the Second Temple Period with ‘Jerusalem’ written in full in modern Hebrew script – the first such discovery ever.

The exciting find was presented on Tuesday during a press conference by the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) and the Israel Museum.

Archaeologists discovered the inscription this past winter near the Jerusalem International Convention Center during a dig carried out in the area prior to the construction of a new road, where the foundations of a Roman structure were exposed. The most significant part was a stone column drum, reused in the Roman structure, upon which the Aramaic inscription appears, written in Hebrew letters typical of the Second Temple Period.

The inscription reads “Hananiah son of / Dodalos / of Jerusalem” in three lines.

‘Spelling as we Know it Today’
Dr. Yuval Baruch, the IAA’s Jerusalem regional archaeologist, and Prof. Ronny Reich of Haifa University, who read and studied the inscription, noted that “First and Second Temple period inscriptions mentioning Jerusalem are quite rare. But even more unique is the complete spelling of the name as we know it today, which usually appears in the shorthand version.”

This is the only stone inscription of the Second Temple era known in which the full spelling of Jerusalem’s name appears. It has been seen in one other instance, on a coin of the Great Revolt against the Romans (66-70 CE).

This unusual spelling is also seen in the Bible, where Jerusalem appears 660 times, with only five mentions at a relatively late date using the full spelling.

David Mevorach, chief curator of archaeology at the Israel Museum, said that the context of the inscription does not help to determine where it was originally displayed or who Hananiah son of Dodalos was, although it is assumed he was an artist-potter, the son of an artist-potter, who adopted a name from the Greek mythological realm.

“It is interesting that he decided to add his origin from nearby Jerusalem to his family name,” Mevorach added.

The area of the Jerusalem International Convention Center has been excavated for many years, exposing a potter’s quarter, which produced vessels for Jerusalem for a period of over 300 years spanning the Hasmonean Period through to the Late Roman era.

Danit Levy of the IAA, who is currently leading the dig in the area, said that this is the largest ancient pottery production site in the Jerusalem region.

In the latter part of the Second Temple period, particularly during Herod’s reign, production was focused on manufacturing cooking vessels. The production installations were found spread across the site, organized into manufacturing units that included kilns, pools for preparing clay, plastered water cisterns, ritual baths, and workspaces for drying and storing the vessels.

Ancient Pottery-Producing Village
A small village developed alongside the area where the pottery was produced, whose economy was based on pottery production. The pots were sold in large quantities to the population in Jerusalem and its environs, especially the pilgrims arriving in the city.

Following the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 CE, the potter’s workshop resumed its activities on a small scale until the early 2nd century CE, when the Roman 10th Legion established its workshop on the site for the mass production of ceramic building materials – roof tiles, bricks and pipes, as well as tableware, cooking ware and storage vessels, typical of the Roman army.

“As a resident of Jerusalem, I am extremely excited to read this inscription, written 2,000 years ago, especially when I think that this inscription will be accessible to every child that can read and uses the same script used two millennia ago,” Prof. Ido Bruno, director of the Israel Museum, enthused.

EU Cuts Funding to Palestinian Education System Over Incitement
https://unitedwithisrael.org/eu-cuts-funding-to-palestinian-education-system-over-incitement/?utm_source=pushengage&utm_medium=pushnotification&utm_campaign=pushengage
Oct 2, 2018
The Palestinians’ EU-financed 2017 textbooks “contain, across all subjects, violent depictions, hate speech – in particular against Israel – and glorifications of jihad and martyrdom,” the EU noted.

By: United with Israel Staff

The European Parliament Budgetary Committee voted last week to freeze 15 million Euros in aid to the Palestinian Authority (PA) over anti-Semitic incitement in its school textbooks, the Jerusalem Post reported.

The move comes amid controversy surrounding inciting messages and images in PA textbooks used in EU funded schools.

The funds will be released when the PA “commits to reform its school curriculum and textbooks to bring them in line with UNESCO standards for peace and tolerance in school education,” the EU stated, essentially meaning never.

The bill will be voted on in late October, and if the bill passes the plenary vote, the EU will withhold €15,440,597 until the PA changes its textbooks.

“The textbooks published by the PA in 2017, which are financed by the EU… contain, across all subjects, numerous examples of violent depictions, hate speech – in particular against Israel – and glorifications of jihad and martyrdom,” the bill states. “As has already been pointed out by Parliament in its resolution on the 2016 budget discharge (par. 272), European Union-financed teaching and training programs should reflect common values.”

The British government \in July launched a review into the PA educational curriculum over growing concerns that British taxpayers are paying for the Palestinians to teach children incitement and anti-Semitism.

The United Kingdom pays more than £20million ($26 million) per year for Palestinian schools.

The investigation was spurred by an analysis conducted by the Institute for Monitoring Peace and Cultural Tolerance in School Education group into PA school textbooks, concluding that they provoke “young Palestinians to acts of violence in a more extensive and sophisticated manner,” and that “the curriculum’s focus appears to have expanded from demonization of Israel to providing a rationale for war.”

The PA educational system routinely poisons the minds of Palestinian children by educating them to hate Israel and Israelis and through terror-promoting messages. They even use cultural mediums such as school plays, sports events and summer camps for this heinous objective.

In line with this policy, the PA has named at least 28 schools after terrorists and at least three schools after Nazi collaborators. Significantly, the PA Ministry of Education is directly and solely responsible for naming schools.

WATCH: Hamas Urges Children to Clash with IDF at Gaza Border
“Now imagine that you care more about terrorizing someone else’s children than protecting your own children. That’s exactly the Hamas leaders in Gaza – today and every day,” the IDF tweeted.
The IDF neutralized over 100 explosives thrown by terrorists rioting at the Gaza border on Friday, the army said.
Over 20,000 Palestinians gathered at five locations along Gaza’s border with Israel in response to calls by Hamas, the terrorist group that rules the Strip. They burned dozens of tires, using the thick black smoke as a screen to throw rocks and explosives toward Israeli troops stationed on the opposite side of the fence.
IDF soldiers responded with tear gas and gunfire, resulting in at least seven deaths and 90 wounded. Two of the dead were children, aged 12 and 14, the Gaza Health Ministry said.
“Now imagine that you care more about terrorizing someone else’s children than protecting your own children. That’s exactly the Hamas leaders in Gaza – today and every day,” the IDF tweeted.
The next day, the IDF posted photos of bombs and other explosive material found in Israeli territory.

Netanyahu to UN Chief: Time to Fight Iran and Force Hamas to Release Captives
PM Netanyahu met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York on Thursday, delivering a blunt message from the Jewish state.
https://unitedwithisrael.org/netanyahu-to-un-chief-time-to-fight-iran-and-force-hamas-to-release-captives/?
By: United with Israel Staff

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, raising a number of critical issues for the Jewish state.

Among the top items on Netanyahu’s agenda was his request that International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Yukiya Amano inspect a new Iranian site that the Israeli premiere exposed as an undercover nuclear facility in his address to the UN General Assembly this week.

In his UN speech, Netanyahu revealed what he described as a “secret atomic warehouse” in Tehran, which he says proves Iran never stopped trying to develop nuclear weapons. He also referred Israel’s heist of half a ton of evidence from an Iranian warehouse related to the regime’s Project Amad, Tehran’s covert nuclear program, material that supports his contentions at the UN General Assembly.

In addition to the Iranian threat, Netanyahu also raised the issue of Israel’s captives held by the Hamas terror group in Gaza. Netanyahu told Guterres the UN must step up international pressure on Hamas to release the captives, who have mental health issues, and to return the bodies of IDF soldiers Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul, which Hamas refuses to release.

Finally, the prime minister also told Guterres that the UN must uphold its obligations as a peacekeeper, using its UNIFIL forces to prevent further escalations from Lebanon, where the Hezbollah terror organization has over 100,000 missiles pointed at the Jewish state.

Palestinian Arson Terror Returns to Israel’s South
https://unitedwithisrael.org/palestinian-arson-terror-returns-to-israels-south/?Israel’s citizens in the south are again faced with Hamas’ airborne arson terrorism.
By: United with Israel Staff
After a few weeks of relative quiet in the south, Gaza-based terrorists renewed their airborne arson terror campaign against Israeli citizens living in the Gaza area.
Gaza-based terrorists launched dozens of balloons laden with flammable materials towards Israel in the past 48 hours, igniting at least 18 fires.
At least nine fires were started by arson balloons on Monday as Israelis celebrated the first day of the Sukkot holiday. Blazes raged at the Simchon forest near Nachal Oz and at Beeri, Kisufim, Nir Yitzchak and other locations.

At the Kisufim forest, an explosive device tied to a balloon was found and defused.

“For months, Gazans have been launching arson balloons at Israel, burning more than eight thousand acres of Israeli land, killing hundreds of animals and endangering thousands of people,” the IDF stated Sunday after the Israeli Air Force attacked a terror cell in Gaza that was launching arson balloons from Gaza into Israel.
On Monday, Gaza’s Health Ministry said a Palestinian was killed and 10 others wounded by Israeli fire during a demonstration near the perimeter fence. Thousands of Palestinian protesters gathered on a beach in northern Gaza near the frontier, burning tires and hurling rocks toward Israeli soldiers, who responded with tear gas and live fire. Fishing boats waving Palestinian flags circled nearby.

On Friday, more than 10,000 Gazans rioted along the security fence with Israel, throwing grenades and explosives at IDF forces and attempting to infiltrate Israel. Grenade shrapnel hit a combat soldier, injuring him. In response, an IDF aircraft carried out several strikes in northern Gaza.
Hamas has led regular riots since March under the banner of “The March of the Great Return” which calls for the replacing of Israel with a Muslim state.

In the meantime, a Hamas delegation is heading to Cairo “soon” to take part in talks on several issues in including a ceasefire with Israel, Hamas leader Sami Abu Zohri stated Monday.

In a press release, Abu Zohri threatened that Hamas would have “other options” if the efforts exerted to reach a ceasefire with Israel failed.

Abu Zohri added that the Palestinians have sent a message to Israel that “stalling for time to deplete the people of Gaza’s will is a lost cause.”

A "Palestinian" Arab teenager murdered a Jewish hero

Ari Fuld was a Jewish hero. He was murdered by a 17 year old “Palestinian.” A teenager. Ari left behind a wife and four children. Sadly, this is not the first time a Jew has been stabbed to death and murdered by a teenager. The “Palestinian” leadership brainwashes their children and praises them for murdering Jews. Jordanian “Palestinian” bashes European Parliament for their policies on Israel
By Leah Rosenberg -  September 20, 2018 18311 0
Are you ready for some clear-headed logic about Israel from a Jordanian?  Where in the Middle East do masses of Arabs have the best place for a good job?  Israel.  Where do Arabs receive the high-paying jobs as in Europe?  In Israeli hospitals, Israeli building projects, and Israeli small businesses.  Leave Dubai out of the discussion.  Israel is the best place to be an Arab today.

BDS
The worst policy that harms Arab people in Israel is the BDS movement.  More Arabs lose jobs due to the BDS movement than any other sector.  The speaker properly asks, “Will you give us a paycheck?”   He thanks the EU for it’s concern for Arab refugees.  But, he understands that no other country provides jobs for “Palestinians” other than Israel.  In Jordan, where no BDS program exists, it is much harder to find a good job.  In the last 70 years, the best place to get a job for any refugee from the Arab-Israel conflict is Israel.

Settlement Construction
There is almost no Jewish settlement today that was not built by Arab construction workers.  If there are around 100,000 homes in Judea and Samaria, Arab construction workers built more than 80,000 of them.  The average home that was built cost around $100,000 to purchase.  (Today, they cost around $200 – $250,000).  Around half of that sum goes to the contractors, and at least 1/4 of that sum goes right into the hands of Arab construction workers.

Do the math.  One quarter of $100,000 is $25,000.  Multiply $25,000 by 80,000 and you get alot of zeros.  Yes, hundreds of millions of dollars go into the pockets of Arab construction workers thanks to the building of settlements.  Just the facts.

Ari Fuld’s Murderer Wanted to Kill Americans, Says Witness
https://unitedwithisrael.org/ari-fulds-murderer-wanted-to-kill-americans-says-witness/?
In an interview with the Israeli media, a local worker who credits Ari Fuld with saving her life during the attack said that the terrorist cased the area before the murder, asking her and others if they spoke English.

By: United with Israel Staff

Falafel shop worker Hila Peretz came very close to becoming the second victim of the terrorist who stabbed Ari Fuld in the back last Sunday.

After stabbing the 45-year-old father of four, the terrorist, Khalil Jabarin, took off running, with Fuld using every ounce of strength left to chase the Jabarin down and fire his weapon, preventing further fatalities in an episode captured in a security camera video that has now gone viral.

Among the closest bystanders during the attack was Peretz, who credits Fuld’s courageous actions with saving her life.

In an interview with Times of Israel, Peretz explained that prior to the attack, Jabarin hung around her shop asking people if they “spoke English.”

According to Peretz, in retrospect it appeared that Jabarin was deliberately seeking an American to attack, since it was apparent that he spoke Hebrew and was not seeking an English-speaker to take his order in the falafel shop.

“There were other people in the area that he could have targeted first, but he chose Ari,” Peretz told the Times. “But he didn’t target [them], he must have wanted an American.”

Peretz also referred to footage of the attack, which showed that Jabarin stalked Fuld for close to a minute before stabbing the dual Israeli-US citizen in the back.

Peretz also told the Times she suspected the decision to target an American was connected to widespread disdain for US President Donald Trump among Palestinians, many of whom resent the US’ funding cuts. These cuts were precipitated by the Palestinian Authority’s refusal to stop providing salaries to terrorists and their families and their ongoing boycott of the US administration and any further peace talks with Israel.

Trump has also cut off all funding to the Palestinians’ dedicated UN agency, UNRWA, which Jerusalem and Washington accuse of massively inflating the number of Palestinian “refugees” as part of a ploy to hinder the peace process and generate a larger pool of aid money for Palestinian organizations.

For Peretz and the extended Fuld family, Palestinian hatred for Trump and Israeli civilians goes far beyond policy debates about aid money or peace negotiations.

In an interview soon after the attack, Peretz concluded, “[Fuld is] not just a hero. He gave his life for me.”

Witness says Ari Fuld’s killer deliberately targeted an American
Falafel shop worker tells Times of Israel that terrorist twice asked her and others in restaurant if they spoke English and stood behind Fuld for a full minute before stabbing him

A falafel shop worker who was saved by a mortally wounded Ari Fuld said Friday that the terrorist deliberately targeted the American-Israeli and had repeatedly sought out someone “who spoke English” before launching his stabbing spree.
Security camera footage from the Gush Etzion Junction shopping mall on Sunday shows Fuld, fatally wounded and with blood pouring down his back, chasing and shooting his attacker 17-year-old Khalil Jabarin.
Jabarin was running after his next target, Hila Peretz, a woman who worked in a local falafel store, when Fuld and another Israeli civilian opened fire, preventing the continuation of the attack and moderately injuring the terrorist.

Peretz, who served Jabarin a falafel shortly before the attack, told The Times of Israel on Friday that Jabarin had wanted to target an American. “After he came inside and ordered his falafel, he asked me two separate times if I spoke English,” recalled Peretz.
“I told him ‘no,’ and asked him what it was that he wanted.”
Jabarin did not answer, but the falafel shop worker was convinced that the questions were part of the 17-year-old’s effort to determine his first target.

“It was not as if he didn’t speak Hebrew and had been asking to speak English so he could make his order. We carried out our conversation in Hebrew,” she explained.
“There were other people in the area that he could have targeted first, but he chose Ari,” she said.  “But them he didn’t target, he must have wanted an American.”
Fuld, a 43-year-old father of four, was a native of Queens, New York, before emigrating to Israel.
Peretz highlighted how the security camera footage shows Jabarin pausing and waiting behind Fuld for nearly a minute as Fuld greeted several passersby.
As for why Jabarin wanted an American, Peretz acknowledged that she could not know for sure. “I’m not sure what goes on in those Arab villages. They’re probably all riled up about Trump there or something,” she said.
The Trump administration has been denounced by the Palestinian leadership for recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and moving its embassy there. Since the Palestinian Authority has subsequently boycotted the US government, the American government has taken a number of steps, including cutting aid to the PA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees and Palestinian hospitals in East Jerusalem.
The White House has indicated those funds will remain withheld until the Palestinians re-engage with the administration to broker a comprehensive Israeli-Palestinian peace deal.
On Thursday, the US justified the hospital funding cuts, including by pointing to the Palestinian Authority’s use of funds to pay terrorists, such as the PA’s declared plans to pay the family of Fuld’s killer.

State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said there was no reason for the US to fund the hospitals when it merely allowed the PA to free up money to support terrorists and their families.
The PA, she went on to say, has “failed to prioritize paying its debts and has instead put money into funding these payments to the families of terrorists.”
Recalling the moment of the attack itself, Peretz earlier in the week said she saw Jabarin “pull out this big knife that was glimmering in the sun, and plunged it into [Ari].”
Next, Peretz said Jabarin began to run toward her with the knife drawn. She ran for her life, shouting “terrorist,” she said.
“The terrorist was right behind me,” she told Israel’s Channel 10 TV news. “I started running down the stairs but he jumped to try to get in front of me. The man that was killed really saved my life.”
She added of Fuld: “He’s not just a hero. He gave his life for me.”
Ari’s way
In an effort to “continue in Ari’s way,” the Fuld family returned Friday morning to the Gush Etzion Junction where the 45-year-old father of four was killed.
After paying a visit to Fuld’s grave in the West Bank settlement of Efrat, family, friends and supporters continued to the shopping center. There, they ate a breakfast together at one of the restaurants in the complex.
“We have grown and will continue to grow as a result of what has happened, and we will choose life,” Fuld’s father Yonah said in a video statement from the scene.
“We have learned great spiritual strengths from Ari’s life and death, and despite our private pain, we are filled with pride at Ari’s heroism and the way he chose to end his life.”

Fuld’s daughter Tamar said her family took great “pride” in returning to the place where Ari was killed.
“Dad would have wanted to show the world that this pride (of his) continues and is now part of us,” she said.
Jabarin, who is being treated in a Jerusalem hospital, was said Monday to be lightly injured by the gunfire from Fuld and the second Israeli civilian.
Fuld, a resident of nearby Efrat, was rushed to Shaare Zedek Medical Center, but was declared dead shortly after.

Hezbollah Leader Threatens Israel with ‘Advanced and Accurate Missiles’
https://unitedwithisrael.org/hezbollah-leader-threatens-israel-with-advanced-and-accurate-missiles/?
Nasrallah claimed that Israel’s attempts to prevent Hezbollah from “possessing advanced and accurate missiles have been foiled.”

By: United with Israel Staff

Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah threatened Israel with war, claiming that “the entire balance of power” between the Lebanon-based terror group and Israel “has changed.”

Speaking on the occasion of the Muslim Ashura holiday on Thursday, Nasrallah addressed Israel directly and asserted that all its attempts to prevent Hezbollah from “possessing advanced and accurate missiles have been foiled,” stressing that the issue “is all over” and that the Israelis themselves “can’t imagine their fate if these missiles are used in any future war.”

Iran over the past years has been trying to arm Hezbollah, its proxy terror organization, with advanced weapons through Syria, and Israel in turn has been trying to prevent Hezbollah’s armament, mostly through airstrikes.

A Fox News report earlier this month revealed that Iran is utilizing civilian airlines to transport weapons to the Hezbollah terror organization in Lebanon.

Western intelligence sources have uncovered “unexpected routes” taken by Iran in an apparent attempt to avoid detection of its arms-smuggling into Lebanon, the report said.

“The Iranians are trying to come up with new ways and routes to smuggle weapons from Iran to its allies in the Middle East, testing and defying the West’s abilities to track them down,” the source told Fox News.

Utilizing Civilian Airlines
In November 2016, Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Danny Danon warned the Security Council that Iran was utilizing civilian airlines to transport weapons to Hezbollah.
In a letter to the Council, Danon said it was the IRGC that was responsible for the smuggling, and he outlined how they were doing it.

“Iran is using airlines such as ‘Mahan Air’ to supply Hezbollah with the capacity to enhance its missile arsenal. The arms and related materials are packed in suitcases by the Quds Force in Iran and transferred directly to Hezbollah operatives,” he wrote.

Danon charged that Iran’s actions are “in blatant violation of numerous Security Council resolutions,” including resolutions 2231 and 1701.
Hezbollah was in possession of roughly 7,000 rockets in 2006, and the Lebanese terror group now has more than 120,000 missiles aimed at Israeli cities, hidden behind human shields in the towns under their control.

Addressing attendees of the Ashura march in Beirut’s Hezbollah-controlled Dahiyeh suburb, Nasrallah said that the Israelis are worried because “their scheme in the region has been foiled.”
He also declared that Hezbollah stands by the Islamic Republic of Iran “in face of all kinds of economic and political pressure,” apparently referring to the US’ renewed sanctions on the country, which have already hurt Hezbollah as well.

Netanyahu: ‘Heroic’ Terror Victim Ari Fuld ‘Prevented a Greater Tragedy’
Palestinian terror
“With his last strength, Ari fought heroically against the terrorist and prevented a greater tragedy,” Netanyahu stated.
https://unitedwithisrael.org/netanyahu-heroic-terror-victim-ari-fuld-prevented-a-greater-tragedy/?By: United with Israel Staff

Leaders in Israel and around the world as well as ordinary citizens of diverse backgrounds and political leanings expressed shock and sorrow over the murder of Ari Fuld, who was stabbed to death by a Palestinian terrorist at the Gush Etzion shopping mall on Sunday.

Fuld and another civilian shot and wounded the terrorist before he collapsed. Through their courageous actions, they prevented a much larger attack.

“In the name of every citizen of Israel, I send my condolences to the family of Ari Fuld, who was murdered today in a terrorist attack in Gush Etzion,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on social media.

“With his last strength, Ari fought heroically against the terrorist and prevented a greater tragedy. Ari was a wonderful father to four children. He was an advocate for Israel who fought to spread the truth about Israel. May his memory be a blessing,” he added.

Jason D. Greenblatt, assistant to President Donald Trump and Special Representative for International Negotiations tweeted that “words cannot express our feeling of loss as an American-Israeli, Ari Fuld, was stabbed to death by a Palestinian terrorist.”

“In Ari’s last breaths, he heroically immobilized the terrorist, saving many other lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ari’s family & his loved ones,” he added.

US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, who attended Fuld’s late-night funeral, tweeted that “America grieves as one of its citizens was brutally murdered by a Palestinian terrorist.”

“Ari Fuld was a passionate defender of Israel & an American patriot. He represented the best of both countries & will be deeply missed. May his family be comforted & his memory be blessed,” Friedman stated.

Emanuele Giaufret, European Union Ambassador to Israel, conveyed his “condolences to the family of the Israeli civilian victim of a stabbing attack.”

“There can be no justification for violence and terror,” he underscored.

Latest Victim of Palestinian Violence and Incitement
Emmanuel Nahshon, Israel’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman said that Fuld “is the latest victim of Palestinian violence and incitement to terror. This is an unacceptable tragedy and we expect world wide condemnation of this horrific act.”

The World Jewish Congress condemned the attack “in the strongest terms possible.”

“The World Jewish Congress unequivocally condemns the brutal and heinous act of terror that took place today in Gush Etzion,” WJC CEO and Executive Vice President Robert Singer said. “We send our deepest condolences to the family of the victim, Ari Fuld, a father of four and defender of Israel, whose life was cut short in violence and hatred, as he heroically confronted his attacker, saving the lives of other innocent bystanders.”

“It is incumbent upon the international community to speak out loudly against this aggression,” Singer added. “We demand that the Palestinian Authority take immediate and harsh measures to curb the incitement that led to this attack, bring the perpetrator to justice, and make it clear that terrorism cannot and will not be tolerated.”

WJC-Israel Chairman, Gad Ariely, who knew Fuld personally, said “the whole House of Israel and decent people everywhere are deeply saddened by the killing of a pillar of the community. This outrage committed during the holiest period of the Jewish calendar will not weaken our resolve to stand strong in the face of terror. May the memory of Ari’s courage and devotion be a blessing that will always inspire us.”

Ideological opponenets also expressed sorrow on the murder of Fuld.

The left-wing J Street issued a statement saying it was “horrified by this attack and deeply saddened by the murder of Ari Fuld, an American-Israeli activist and father of four. There can never be any excuse for this kind of violence. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and community.”

‘Ideological Chasm Left to the Screen’
Yariv Oppenheimer, the director of Peace Now who was often Fuld’s opponent on ILTV’s Frenemies debates, tweeted that he was “in total shock, sad and upset, also on a personal level.”

“A true ideologue, a believer in his way. I feel so sad for him and his family,” Oppenheimer added.

Uri Zaki, founder of The Front for the Protection of Democracy, who also participated in heated political debates with Fuld on Frenemies, said he was “overwhelmed and pained by the abominable murder of my friend Ari Fuld.”

“There was an ideological chasm between us, but we left it to the screen. My sincere condolences to his family,” he stated.

Russia ‘reserves right to response’ after saying Israel's actions led to downing of Il-20 by Syria
The Russian military accused their Israeli counterparts for causing the shot-down of a Russian Il-20 plane by the Syrian air defense forces, which were responding to an Israeli air raid on Latakia.

A Russian military Il-20 aircraft with 14 service members on board went off the radar during an attack by four Israeli jets on Syria’s Latakia province, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
Air traffic controllers at Khmeimim Airbase “lost contact” with the aircraft on Monday evening, during an attack by Israeli F-16 fighters on Latakia, said the MoD. The plane was 35km off the coast of Syria when it vanished.

A total of 14 people were on board the plane at the time of the disappearance. A search and rescue mission is underway.

The Ilyushin 20 (IL-20) surveillance turboprop plane is an Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) platform, equipped with a wide range of antennas, infrared and optical sensors. The aircraft's SLAR (Side-Looking Airborne Radar) and the plane's satellite link allows the Russian military to monitor Syrian skies in real time.
An hour-long attack on Latakia began around 10pm local time, and targeted a power station as well as two facilities belonging to the Syrian military. Syrian officials said the attack was “foreign” and came “from the sea,” but could not initially confirm rumors that Israel was behind it. Seven people were injured in the attack, according to Syrian officials.
While the Russian military said it recorded four F-16 Israeli jets over Syria at the time of the attack on Latakia, the IDF has refused to comment on the report.

©️ Sergey GuneevPutin & Erdogan agree Idlib buffer zone to avert new Syria crisis
Despite the fact that Israel rarely acknowledges striking specific targets inside Syria, earlier this month the IDF admitted hitting at least 202 “Iranian targets” in the country. Overall, Israel has launched 792 bombs and missiles at Syria since 2017, arguing that the strikes were necessary to prevent Iran from setting up bases in the country in order to stage attacks against the Jewish state.

As Israel continues to claim the right to intrude in Syria, despite repeated condemnations from Damascus, France had said that it will join the US-led campaign to strike Syria again if there are reports of chemical weapons use.

Over the last few weeks, Moscow has been beating drums about a false-flag chemical attack that is being prepared by the notorious White Helmets and jihadists in Idlib province in order to frame government forces. Such a provocation, the Russian military argues, will be used to trigger a US-led attack against Damascus.

The attack on Latakia came just hours after Russia and Turkey negotiated a partial demilitarization of Idlib province, which is the last remaining stronghold of anti-government militants, including the Al-Qaeda affiliate Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (also known as the Jabhat Al-Nusra).

WATCH: Ari Fuld’s Murderer Was Raised on Palestinian Authority Values
Sep 17, 2018
https://unitedwithisrael.org/watch-ari-fulds-murderer-was-raised-on-palestinian-authority-values/?
In 2004, after watching a PA ‘educational program’ for preschoolers, I wondered how a child watching these shows would turn out as an adult. I got my answer.
By: Linda Olmert
The 16-year-old scum that slaughtered Ari Fuld with a knife in the back on Sunday would have been two years old in 2004, and probably, like most preschoolers around the world, he was watching children’s TV programming.
As a resident of the Palestinian Authority (PA), he likely watched the official PA channel.

In 2004 I was working with Palestinian Media Watch, a watchdog organization that does groundbreaking work monitoring the official Palestinian media, exposing repeatedly the fact that the PA sends totally different messages in Arabic (which most in the West do not understand) to what it sends out in English.

I have never forgotten this film clip (below), broadcast on the official PA TV’s children’s channel. Clearly geared to preschoolers, the show’s character was a cute, fluffy yellow puppet named Tarabishu, the Talking Chick.

The entire clip was obviously scripted. The historical context was that Palestinian snipers were shooting into Israel, using trees for cover, so the IDF removed the trees.

This film includes no education for conflict resolution, such as trying to talk things out if another child does something you do not like or speaking to your mother who would then have a discussion with the other child’s mother. None at all.

Other universal goals of children’s programming, such as encouraging language skills and increasing vocabularly, are completely different in this clip from what is considered acceptable. In this “educational program for Palestinian children,” the preschoolers learn that calling people to demonstrate is acceptable, which it is, and then massacring them (“massacre” – a lovely new word?), which is not acceptable.

I clearly remember wondering back in 2004, after watching this clip again and again and again, what a two- or three-year-old growing up with this type of “entertainment” would be like as an adult. On Sunday, I got my answer.
Canadian-born Linda Olmert made Aliya and has lived in Israel for 43 years. She creates Jewish Identity programing and speaks on the subjects of Zionism, Jewish Identity and the Holocaust. Currently, she is also a ‘realtor with a difference’ in Raanana.

Palestinians: US Decision to Shutter PLO Office ‘Reckless’; Netanyahu Hails Move
“Such a reckless act confirms that the administration is blindly executing Israel’s ‘wish list,’ which starts with shutting down Palestinian diplomatic representation in the US,” Zomlot charged.
https://unitedwithisrael.org/palestinians-us-decision-to-shutter-plo-office-reckless-netanyahu-hails-move/?
By: United with Israel Staff

The Palestinians reacted with rage to the US decision to shut down the Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) mission in Washington, with the head of the PLO General Delegation to the US Husam Zomlot describing the move as “reckless.”

“We condemn in the strongest terms the US administration’s decision to close the Palestinian mission to the US. However, we are not surprised,” he said in a statement Monday, according to the official Palestinian WAFA news agency.

“Such a reckless act confirms that the administration is blindly executing Israel’s ‘wish list,’ which starts with shutting down Palestinian diplomatic representation in the US,” he charged.

The Trump administration ordered the closure of the Palestinian diplomatic mission in Washington on Monday, citing the refusal of Palestinians to enter into talks with Israel and their rejection of the as-yet-unveiled US peace plan as the reason for the dramatic move.

Already last year, the administration told the Palestinians that its mission’s closure was a possibility unless they agreed to sit to down with the Israelis.

Instead of heeding the warning to resume talks, “the PLO leadership has condemned a US peace plan they have not yet seen and refused to engage with the US government with respect to peace efforts and otherwise,” State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a statement. “As such, and reflecting congressional concerns, the administration has decided that the PLO office in Washington will close at this point.”

Palestinians Refuse Peace Talks
US National Security Adviser John Bolton said that “the Trump administration will not keep the office open when the Palestinians refuse to take steps to start direct and meaningful negotiations with Israel. The United States supports a direct and robust peace process.”

Zomlot retorted by saying that the Palestinians “stand firm in our decision not to cooperate in this ongoing campaign to liquidate our rights and cause. Our rights are not for sale, and we will block any attempts at bullying and blackmailing us to forgo our legitimate and internationally endorsed rights.”

Those “who have pushed for such an act are taking a direct aim not only against the Palestinian people and the historic US-Palestinian relationship, but also against prospects for peace in the Middle East and the integrity of the international political and legal system,” he added.

“While today is a dark day for peace in the Middle East, for multilateralism, and the integrity of the international political and legal system, we will continue our struggle to pursue all possible legal and political means to achieve peace, independence and our internationally enshrined rights,” Zomlot concluded.

Netanyahu: ‘US Made the Correct Decision’
Israel welcomed the US move. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated Tuesday that “the US made the correct decision regarding the PLO mission in Washington.”

“Israel supports American actions that are designed to make it clear to the Palestinians that refusing to negotiate and attempts to attack Israel in international forums will not advance peace,” he stated.

Jeremy Corbyn – Anti-Semite
Jeremy Corbyn is the British anti-semite that keeps on giving. With each day more and more troublesome outbursts, events and meetings are exposed.  We now can clearly see his true antisemitic colors. One of the latest antisemitic comments that came to the fore was one he made a few years ago.  Corbyn said that “British Zionists don’t get British irony.”  What Corbyn is essentially implying is that regardless if a British Jew was born in Britain, or lived in Britain for centuries, so long as they are Zionists, they are not really British.  Rather, they are aliens to Britain. This is an extremely severe comment to say about fellow British citizens.  This is especially bothersome due to the fact that tens of thousands of Jewish men served in the British Army and Navy in World War I and II.

Theresa May Responds in Parliament
British Prime Minister Theresa May rightly calls out Labour leader Corbyn for uttering such an antisemitic comment on the Parliament floor.
WATCH https://twitter.com/BBCPolitics/status/1037297454008291328?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1037297454008291328%7Ctwgr%5E373939313b636f6e74726f6c&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fisraelunwired.com%2Fwhen-the-british-pm-stood-up-to-defend-the-jewish-people-everyone-listened%2F

It seems like this issue won’t disappear. This antisemitism problem in the Labour party seems to be growing, not going away. The biggest problem with Jeremy Corbyn’s actions as the Labour party leader is that he is mainstreaming antisemitism.  As Maajid Nawaz has said, the Labour party today is now institutionally racist.

This is PM Theresa May speaking about the issue last month

Hamas Leader Threatens Israel With 'Six Months' of Rockets on Tel Aviv

Yahya Sinwar says Israel and Hamas can make progress on prisoner swap even without reaching an agreement on long-term cease-fire

U.S. Ambassador Friedman: Rebuilding Gaza without Abbas is 'tremendous prize' for Hamas
The leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Yahya Sinwar, said Wednesday that talks were underway on reaching a cease-fire deal with Israel, while issuing a threat that "all of the missiles that the Palestinian resistance fired [at Israel] during the 51 days of the last war [in 2014] it can fire in five minutes."

Hamas, he warned, had sent a message to Israel through intermediaries that it is capable of "causing six months of rising and falling air raid sirens" in the Tel Aviv area. "We don't want a military confrontation, but we are not afraid of one."

About the negotiations with Israel via Egyptian and UN mediation, Sinwar said it was possible to make progress in talks on the return of two Israeli civilians being held in Gaza and the remains of two Israeli soldiers killed in combat there in 2014, in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. As reported by the Ma'an Palestinian news agency, Sinwar said the issue was not linked to contacts with Israel on a long-term cease-fire.

Speaking to reporters, Sinwar said such a cease-fire agreement could be reached with Israel even in the absence of reconciliation between the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority and Hamas, which controls the Strip. He said that Egypt has expressed a willingness to pursue such a deal.

As for reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah, Sinwar said Fatah had responded on Wednesday to an Egyptian proposal and that the response was "worse than their initial proposal." Commenting on the prospect that the Palestinian Authority might impose sanctions on Gaza if there is no progress on Palestinian reconciliation, Sinwar said: "That would be a break with the rules of the game and we would respond accordingly."

Late on Wednesday, the White House took the Palestinian Authority to task for its refusal to be involved in efforts to reach an agreement on restoring calm to Gaza. The statement and its timing - shortly after Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi had spoken to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas about Gaza - are indications that the Trump administration and Egypt are attempting to ratchet up the pressure on Abbas to support an agreement and to have the Palestinian Authority gradually reassume responsibility for the Strip.

Hamas forcibly took control of Gaza from the Palestinian Authority in 2007 after Fatah lost parliamentary elections three year before.

In the statement, Trump's special Middle East envoy, Jason Greenblatt, said: "The Palestinian Authority cannot criticize from the sidelines. The Palestinian Authority should be part of the solution for the Palestinians of Gaza and Palestinians as a whole. If not, others will fill that void." He added that "it's time for the Palestinian Authority to lead the Palestinian people – all Palestinians – to a better future."

Up to now, Abbas has voiced skepticism over talks under Egyptian mediation on Gaza. One of the reasons for Abbas' approach is concern that the talks would strengthen Hamas at the Palestinian Authority's expense.

On Wednesday, remarks about Gaza made by the U.S. ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, were leaked to the press. In a telephone briefing to the American Jewish Congress, Friedman said an agreement on Gaza without the Palestinian would be a "tremendous reward" for Hamas. Despite the Palestinian Authority's many shortcomings, the Trump administration prefers to work with the Palestinian Authority rather than Hamas, Friedman added.

An Israel - Hamas agreement that avoids war but puts off tougher questions means replaying the last decade’s nasty cycle of conflict. But every crisis worsens Gaza’s humanitarian and governability situation, towards the point of no return

Hamas is desperate for a deal with Israel. Here’s proof
Trump's hardball policy on the Palestinians will blow up in Israel's face
Egypt, U.S. pressure Abbas to assume responsibility for Gaza
U.S. Ambassador Friedman: Rebuilding Gaza without Abbas is 'tremendous prize' for Hamas
The Israeli government is once again weighing the possibility of a new ceasefire with Hamas - and already we hear the criticisms.  Habayit Hayehudi leader and government minister Naftali Bennett attacks any negotiation with Hamas as "surrender." Meanwhile, others fear that these latest talks, which cut out President Abbas, will weaken the one Palestinian party that Israel should be negotiating with.

Neither of these arguments are true. There is little new about the current ceasefire negotiations.

It is part of a nasty cycle that all of the parties have been stuck in since Hamas’s violent takeover of the Gaza Strip in 2007. It has led to three conflicts, each of which was preceded by the same pattern of behavior; ended with a similar temporary agreement brokered; and ultimately reignited because the agreements never stuck.

Here is how the cycle plays out.

Step 1: Hamas insists on arming itself and using violence against civilians as a tool to achieve its objectives and refuses to recognize Israel. Israel responds by squeezing Gaza economically to pressure Hamas politically, deter it militarily, and limit its capabilities. This is where Israel and Hamas have been since Operation Protective Edge ended in 2014, but also where they were in the periods before the 2012 and 2008 conflicts

Step 2: Eventually pressure builds inside Gaza and Hamas escalates its use of violence both to generate domestic political support and to try to get Israel to take steps to ease the economic situation. The primary tool for Hamas is rocket fire, though over time it has also evolved to include tunnel attacks and most recently fire kites.

In this latest round, we saw this period start in earnest in March this year with the March of Return protests that were initially spurred on by civil society groups in Gaza, but ultimately co-opted by Hamas. In 2014, it was the collapse of U.S. sponsored peace talks, the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenagers by Hamas, and the murder of an Arab-Israeli teen by Jewish extremists in response that ultimately set conditions for conflict.

Step 3: Israel responds to this Hamas escalation, with its own escalation including military strikes inside of Gaza and punitive economic measure that further choke the strip in an effort to get Hamas to change its behavior and stop the attacks. We saw this throughout this spring and summer with Israeli airstrikes and temporary full closures of the crossings into Gaza.

Step 4: Violence and political pressure become too much and the tensions explode into a major conflict that does severe damage to all sides – though the highest death toll is always experienced by the civilian population in Gaza. Thankfully, we have not hit that point yet - and the hope is that all the parties having learned from the mistakes of the past can skip this terrible step and move directly on to negotiating a new ceasefire.

Step 5: Egypt steps in and brokers a barebones ceasefire as it did in 2009, 2012, and 2014 that involves the cessation of violence on all sides and some minor steps by Israel to ease the blockade. The agreement always includes subsequent steps to be taken in the future to create a more sustainable long-term situation. But those are not taken seriously and with the immediate threat of war receding, are not followed up on by any of the parties.

After a deal was negotiated in Cairo to end the 2014 war, for example, the UN, working with all sides was able to institute the Gaza Reconstruction Mechanism to increase the flow of goods into Gaza while meeting Israeli security requirements. Eventually, a series of small measures such as loosening certain export restrictions into Israeli markets for goods produced in Gaza were also implemented. But none of these changed the fundamental economic and humanitarian situation on the ground.

Meanwhile, the subsequent follow on talks that were supposed to take place in Cairo and address tougher issues beyond "quiet for quiet" and short-term economic measures, never materialized. The likely scenario today is the same: An agreement that avoids war but puts off tougher questions that likely will never be addressed.

Step 6: The international community convenes a major donor conference where a lot of money is pledged for reconstructing Gaza. But much of the funds never materialize because no one wants to invest in projects that will inevitably be destroyed in the next conflict. And with the war over international attention moves elsewhere.

In 2009, the Gaza donor conference in Sharm al-Sheikh raised $4.5 billion. In 2014, the Cairo conference resulted in commitments of $5.3 billion. Much of that money never materialized or trickled in very slowly. And even when it did, restrictions on what could be imported into Gaza and Hamas’s use of funds and materials to strengthen its own situation and invest in a new conflict have made rebuilding painfully slow.

Step 7: Everyone goes back to business as usual. The blockade continues. Israel invests in countermeasures to respond to the latest threat from Hamas. It now has Iron Dome and counter-tunneling technology. Next, it will be building technology that can create wind currents into Gaza that make it impossible to fly kites into Israel.

Yehiyeh Sinwar, the Hamas militant group's leader in the Gaza Strip, speaks to foreign correspondents in his office in Gaza City. May 10, 2018.Khalil Hamra / AP
Hamas develops new techniques to prepare for the next war. We do not know what will come after the kites, but certainly Hamas will find something new to terrorize Israelis.

Eventually as things do not get better in Gaza and pressure builds the cycle of violence begins again.

What does this cycle tell us about what the parties should do next?  First, barring any better options, for the moment Israel is right to pursue a new ceasefire and Egypt, the UN, the United States, and other Arab states should all support this approach. At least it avoids another deadly war.

Second, the Trump administration should stop its systematic effort of defunding aid to the Palestinians both through UNRWA and USAID, as this will only further destabilize an already delicate situation.

But the most important point is that eventually there will be a reckoning.

With every crisis, the humanitarian situation in Gaza worsens. There will come a moment when basic order collapses altogether, or Israel is forced to invade and retake Gaza.

The only way to avoid this terrible outcome in the long-term is a sustainable political arrangement that should include both a long-term ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that includes major economic opening of Gaza combined with a Palestinian reconciliation deal between Fatah and Hamas that slowly brings the Palestinian Authority back into Gaza.

Ultimately, the biggest winners of a new ceasefire will be the civilians in Gaza and southern Israel who will avoid the immediate misery of more violence. But unless everyone can move beyond the cycle of the past ten years, they will also be the biggest losers - as inevitably, over time, this agreement too will break down.

Israel now has a total of 8,907,000 citizens, with a vast majority (89 percent) defining their personal mood as ‘good’ or ‘very good’ and a similar percentage expecting that the coming Jewish year of 5779 will be at least as good as the previous year.

The Jewish population stands at 6,625,000 – 75 percent of the total population. Israel’s Arab citizens constitute 20.9 percent of the population, numbering approximately 1,864,000. Non-Arab Christians and other religious groups make up 4.7 percent of the population.

Some 25,000 Jews made Aliyah (immigrated to Israel) over the past year.

Approximately 3.5 million made Aliyah since 1948, composing 42 percent of the total population.

According to CBS projections, Israel’s population will pass the 10 million mark in 2024, and the 15 million mark around 2048, Israel’s 100th birthday. The Jewish state’s population will reach 20 million in 2065.

In 2018, over 70 years after the Holocaust, the world’s largest Jewish population lives in Israel. This figure represents 43 percent of world Jewry.

Israel’s population is young in comparison with other Western countries. Children up to the age of 14 constitute 28 percent of the population.

These numbers were released by CBS via its traditional statistics report on the citizens of Israel in honor of Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, which will be celebrated on Monday and Tuesday

This year, 52,809 couples were married; 14,819 divorced.

Israel is proud of its robust education system, which constitutes of 63 institutions of higher education with 313,000 students.

ISRAEL UNLEASHED: Israel Erects MASSIVE WALL Along Northern Border to Combat Terror
posted by Hannity Staff - 2 hours ago
Israeli officials took their fight with Hezbollah and other terror networks to the next-level this week, with officials in Jerusalem confirming they were nearing completion of a massive wall along their northern border with Lebanon.

According to Fox News, “Israel is building a massive wall along its northern border, saying the barrier is needed to protect civilians from Hezbollah attacks, but the project has raised tensions with Lebanon, which fears the fence will encroach on its territory.”

“This wall, if it is built, will be considered an aggression against Lebanon,” said an official with the Lebanese government. “The Higher Defense Council has given instructions to confront this aggression to prevent Israel from building this so-called wall barrier on Lebanese territory.”

“Even for the past year before we started this construction, we’ve coordinated this activity with UNIFIL, and through UNIFIL with the Lebanese Armed Forces. We’ve alerted them of our intention to do so, to construct this defensive mechanism,” said a Major from the IDF.

U.S. Contradicts Russian Claim Rebels in Syria's Idlib Have Chemical Weapons Capability

'Israel strikes Iranian, Assad regime targets' in Syria
Russia claims military action in Syria is 'precisely targeted' as Turkey works to avoid Idlib assault

There was "zero intelligence" of chemical weapons capabilities possessed by groups opposing Syrian President Bashar Assad in the province of Idlib, U.S. Defence Secretary Jim Mattis said, adding that the facts did not back Russian assertions.

Syrian government forces plan a phased offensive in Idlib and surrounding areas held by rebels opposed to Assad, who has been backed by both Russian and Iranian forces in the country’s civil war.

Russian and Syrian jets hammered the rebel stronghold on Tuesday, days before the leaders of Russia, Iran and Turkey meet to discuss the expected Syrian government offensive that could spark a humanitarian disaster.

In the past few days, Russian officials, cited by Russian media, have said there was a plan by "militants" to stage a false chemical weapons attack in Idlib province to frame Assad.

"We have zero intelligence that shows the opposition has any chemical capability," Mattis told reporters traveling with him to the Indian capital of New Delhi for a high-level dialogue on Thursday between the south Asian nation and the United States.

Russia's Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said he had told U.S. officials that Moscow was concerned over signs the United States was preparing new strikes onSyria and warned against "groundless and illegal aggression against Syria."

"We have made very clear that by putting out innuendo that somehow any chemical weapon use coming up in the future could be ascribed to the opposition, well, we want to see the data," Mattis said. "We cannot see anything that indicates the opposition has that capability."

He said instead there was a history of Assad's government using such weapons.

U.S. President Donald Trump has twice ordered U.S.-led strikes against targets in Syria in response to what Washington called the Assad government's use of chemical weapons against civilians.

On Tuesday the White House said that if Assad used chemical weapons "the United States and its allies would respond swiftly and appropriately."
Asked if he saw indications of the Syrian government preparing to use chemical weapons in Idlib, Mattis said, " I think the best answer to that is, we are very alert."

Sputnik, a Russian state-owned news outlet, said recently the White Helmets rescue service had delivered a large shipment of toxic substances to "local armed militant groups."

The Pentagon said the Russian government was using a "concentrated disinformation campaign" to discredit the United States and its allies.
"That Russia is seeking to plant false lies about chemical weapons use suggests that Moscow is seeking to deflect from its own culpability when these heinous weapons are used," Commander Sean Robertson, a Pentagon spokesman, said in a statement.
