Hey Elaine

Last week we saw how Jesus entered the Temple, threw out the moneychangers, and referred to the whole setup as a "den of thieves."

Strong words - some might call it blasphemy!

But this was only the beginning of His attacks against the religious system of His day.

Of course, there were those who defended that system and sought to destroy Him.

Ironically, the same thing is happening today - except the religious system is Churchianity.

And Churchianity today would never admit to "destroying" Jesus...

But when you pretend to represent Him to the world, and then you do more harm than good in His Name, it is as good as destroying Him.

Jesus wanted them to see that their only hope and future was in Him - not in the Temple, or in the symbolism of Judaism.

Likewise, Jesus wants us to see today that our only hope and future is in Him - not in Churchianity.

Jesus' presence in the Temple represented a crisis in Judaism; they ignored the warnings and were destroyed.

We are heading for a similar scenario in the "last" of the last days.

All of this will be examined in the next few series of teachings as we study this final confrontation:

Hey Elaine,

The "Word of Faith" health/wealth false gospel is based on twisting Mark 11:23-24 out of context.

Tonight, I'm going to put it back INTO context and show you what it really means.

Plus, we'll get to the bottom of what Jesus meant when He called the Temple "a den of thieves."

And why He cursed a fig tree.

Three lessons, one message.

Powerful stuff.

Don't miss it.

The majority of Jesus' ministry was spent in Galilee, out in the country, a good distance from Jerusalem.

But, in the times and seasons appointed by His Father, Jesus would venture into and out of Jerusalem.

This week we begin to look at the final confrontation between Jesus and the Jews that would ultimately lead to His crucifixion.

The cleansing of the Temple and the lesson of the withered fig tree show not just the ultimate demise of Judaism, but the eventual judgment of God upon all systems of religion - including Churchianity, which is even worse than Judaism in its rejection and repudiation of Christ.

We'll support those statements in this week's Bible study...

Escape from Churchianity
by Chip Brogden
It’s a sunny day, the birds are
singing, the church bells are ringing, and
you see men, women, and children walking
down the street, carrying their Bibles.

You rush out into the road and grab an elderly gentleman.

“Where are you going? What’s going on? Why are you so dressed up?”

“Get your hands off me, you crazy idiot! It’s Sunday morning, and I’m going to church!”

“You’ve seen the Church??”

“Seen it? Of course I’ve seen it. My great-great grandfather helped build that church!”

“No, I mean have you SEEN the CHURCH,” you repeat emphatically. “The Church that JESUS is building!”

“I don’t know what the devil you’re talking about, young man. Now let me alone, or I’ll be late!”

You let him go and before you know it you are swept along by the crowd and find yourself sitting within the four walls of a building that calls itself “First Hypocritical Church, International...”

The Battle of the Ages
by Chip Brogden
We are rapidly heading toward
a time when the governments of this world will be forced to regulate and censor “religious speech” as the only solution to world peace.

They will (correctly) determine that religion is the source of most of the world’s wars and deaths from war. They will then move decisively to silence, punish, and eliminate anyone who disturbs the peace with “hate speech,” which they will define as anything that appears to offend someone else’s beliefs or religious practices. This will not violate the conscience of most of the world’s religions, who will be allowed to practice their faith however they please, so long as they do not infringe upon the religious faith of others. But for the ones who bear the Testimony of Jesus – that all are saved in Him, and none are saved apart from Him – this will lead to widespread, universal persecution and death. Eventually, politics and religion will merge into a single entity that destroys all that oppose it.

This is not some wild conspiracy theory; it is precisely what the Book of Revelation describes...

Hey Elaine,

The carnal pursuit of fleshly power and control is just as prevalent in Churchianity as it is anywhere else in the world.

Jesus said, “It must not be so among you,” but we are obliged to confess that it IS so among many who claim to be His people.

Apart from acute self-righteousness, there is little discernible difference between people in the world and people in the religious system.

The Church is merely an extension of their own carnal and fleshly desires for power, prestige, and privilege.

Many people, unable to make a name for themselves in the world, find Religion an easy venue for self-promotion.

They discover that most of the people are superstitious, easily manipulated, and easily deceived.

The speed with which a person can ascend to the leadership of a Christian church is astounding, and the damage they can cause is equally remarkable.

Scriptural admonitions and qualifications are mostly ignored or overlooked as the ambitious, the charismatic, or the influential simply assume positions of authority by default.

Jesus gives us a warning to heed and an example to follow.

We'll study both in this week's Bible study...

The Fig Tree Has No Figs
by Chip Brogden
A growing number of people have come to the conclusion that the social benefits of going to church can no longer compensate for the lack of spiritual life.

People are tired of going to fig trees that promise fruit, but offer a hungry person nothing but leaves to eat. They’ve been eating leaves or chewing on bark, but there is no fruit, no sustenance, no nourishment.

One day they wake up and say, “No more.  Whatever this place used to mean to me, whatever purpose it used to serve in my life, this place no longer represents the Lord Jesus.  I can’t fully explain it, and I don’t completely understand why or how, but the religion of church is hindering my relationship with the Lord and it is time for me to leave...”

Elaine,

Are you a disciple of Moses, or a disciple of Jesus?

It's a fair question.

Because some people try to be both - and you can't serve two masters.

Moses says, "God told me to tell you to follow these rules."

Jesus says, "Take up your cross and follow ME!"

Now, Moses did the best he could with what he had to work with.

But Jesus brings us right into the Father's heart and empowers us to fulfill the Law of Love.

We'll discuss that (and more) in tonight's Bible study:

Post  Admin Wed 11 Jul 2018, 8:43 pm

Elaine,

I saw a church sign the other day:

"D.E.B.T. = Doing Everything But Tithing."

*Ugh*

I know nothing should surprise me anymore...

But I am still a little surprised by how many Christians want to put themselves under the Law of Moses and pretend like they are Jewish.

More evidence of the religious spirit, working its seductive magic.

Which really makes some of Jesus' statements all the more startling.

For example, when it comes to marriage and divorce, Jesus said:

"Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so" (Mt. 19:8).

This (to me) opens up several lines of inquiry.

Not about marriage and divorce, but about the Law of Moses.

How many of those commandments were only concessions to the hardness of their heart?

How many of those laws were imperfect, not fully representing God's highest and best?

How many of those regulations were what Moses told them, and not necessarily what God wanted?

The religious folks never question these things.

But Jesus did.

And He truly makes us consider the spirit and truth of God's heart in a way that religion can't understand.

We'll dig more deeply into this during this week's online Bible study...

Elaine

Even the disciples of Jesus were in danger of getting sucked into a spirit of religion.

First, they wanted to "build a tabernacle" there on the mountain.

Then, they started arguing over who would be the greatest.

Then, they started telling others outside of their little group what they could and could not do.

They were well on their way to creating their own little version of Phariseeism.

Jesus gives them a very sobering warning...

One that we need to pay attention to.

Because the spirit of religion is so pervasive today that most people do its bidding without even realizing it.

Something we will ponder tonight...

The disciples of Jesus were found arguing about who would be the greatest.

Not much has changed in 2,000 years!

The transfiguration Jesus experienced revealed more of His glory.

We are in need of a transfiguration, too.

Not to increase us, but to decrease us.

Not to lift us up, but to bring us back down to size.

Not to make us haughty, but to make us holy.

Decoding the Bible
An in-depth audio series from Chip Brogden,
instantly downloadable to your computer.

Hello Elaine!

The world is full of problems and crises, and I realize I can’t address them all or solve them all.

But there is one crisis I feel compelled by God to address.

Spiritually speaking I think it is one of the most, if not THE most, important spiritual crisis that we face as believers right now.

It is big, it’s getting bigger, and there seems to be no end in sight.

If you don’t prepare yourself for it, you may soon find yourself swept away by it.

In fact, some of you reading this may have already been swept away by it without realizing it.

When I say it is “a crisis of Biblical proportions” I’m not kidding.

What is it?

It is the crisis of Biblical illiteracy among so-called Christians and believers in Jesus.

Jesus - OUR LORD JESUS - said, "You do err, because you don't know the Scriptures, or the power of God" (Mt. 22:29).

And yet, a dangerous wave of liberal thought has invaded the minds and hearts of many people who profess to be followers of Jesus but think the Bible is old, outdated, not applicable, open to re-interpretation, or not even relevant to modern, sophisticated believers who are “led by the Spirit.”

This has been rumbling around in the house church / out-of-church movements for a good while and it is only getting worse.

Far from reflecting some new height of spiritual maturity, it actually reflects a new depth of spiritual ignorance and deception.

It is, really, an all-out satanic attempt to lead many astray, to deceive even the Elect, and undermine the very foundation of Testimony of Jesus.

It is taking the beauty and freedom of being “spiritual, not religious” and twisting it into something that God never intended – a world without objective truth or spiritual standard, where no one can judge and everything must be accepted.

For thousands of years the devil and the world have tried to attack the Bible, prevent it from spreading, and kill anyone who printed, published, or preached it.
So far, the devil hasn’t succeeded.
But what the enemy has been unable to do from the outside, Christians are successfully doing from the inside.

That’s right.

People who say they “love Jesus” but they don’t see the point of the Bible.
They “have the Holy Spirit” so they don’t think the Bible has anything to say to them.

In this teaching series, I’m going to expose this deception, and help you “decode the Bible” so you will be thoroughly equipped in the basics of a Christ-centered, Spirit-led, and SCRIPTURE-BASED walk with God

There are 5 messages (nearly 8 hours) of teaching in this series:

Hey Elaine,

The purpose of revelation is not to substantiate uour illusions, but to eliminate them.

We all come to Jesus with a preconceived idea of Who He is and what He means.

Most of those ideas were handed down to us from Religion.

Most of those ideas are a little messed up (or a lot messed up, depending on how long you've been going to church).

One day, God gave me a vision of Christ seated far above all things - and me seated together with Him.

That day I saw a DIFFERENT Jesus.

Jesus was "transfigured" before me.

And He was nothing like Religion had said He would be.

We all need to see a different Jesus.

Not the Jesus of our imagination, but Jesus as He is.

That is the purpose of transfiguration.

We need to ask God to take us beyond flesh-and-blood and give us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the FULL-KNOWLEDGE of Christ.

When we do, Jesus is transfigured and we see His glory.

We'll take a closer look at how this works in this week's Bible study...

A New Way to Pray: 4 Benefits
by Chip Brogden
Some more advanced applications of prayer are just sophisticated forms of manipulation and control.

The Bible is used like a book of magical incantations. We quote Scriptures and expect God to perform miracles on demand. Just as bad, we use prayer as a way to get other people “straight” – my irritable spouse, my rebellious kids, my idiot neighbors, my stupid boss – they all need straightening out, and prayer becomes a passive-aggressive weapon of choice. We see clearly what needs to happen (so we think), and we use prayer as spiritual sledgehammer to bring other people around to our point of view.

It makes us feel good that God is “on our side” and is working behind the scenes to jerk a knot in these people. The best you can say about this kind of prayer is that it is on the level of white witchcraft, which is really the same as black magic except it uses God instead of the devil to get its own way.

Well then, how should we pray?

And why, in many people, they stay closed.

You do NOT want to miss it!

Hey Elaine,

After having no Internet for a week I'm finally back!

Thank you for your encouragement, prayers, and understanding.

I really missed getting together with you last week :-)

So I'm looking forward to picking up where we left off.

BEWARE THE LEAVEN!

It's that spirit of religion creeping into our relationship with God that ruins the simplicity of Christ.

It manifests itself in a thousand different ways.

Our thoughts... our attitudes... our beliefs... our behavior...

Even the way we speak and the words we use can be affected by this nasty spirit of religion.

Jesus said to watch out for it!

And Scripture predicts it will become worse and worse as we come to the end of the Age.

This week we'll dig into that and much more...

Chip Brogden CHURCH WITHOUT WALLS - Page 33 Pharis10
The Wisdom of the Pharisees
by Chip Brogden
Jesus called them fools, blind leaders of the blind, snakes, and hypocrites who will not escape the damnation of hell.

Amen, we say. How easy it is to look back on this evidence today and condemn the Jews for failing to recognize their Messiah and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

However, I suggest that the sect of the Pharisees is alive and well today, only it is no longer a sect within Judaism, it is a sect within Churchianity that continues to differentiate people based on external religious rules and customs. The names and customs have changed, but the same old “wisdom” prevails...

Beware the Leaven!

 Hey Elaine,

Whatever the devil cannot destroy, he will attempt to defile.

Religion is the devil's masterpiece.

Jesus Himself prophesied that Religion would attempt to corrupt the simplicity of a Relationship with Him.

That's why He said, "Beware the leaven!"

We'll look at that more closely in this week's study...

Don't Look Back!
by Chip Brogden
“He who puts his hand to the plow, and looks back, is not fit for the Kingdom of God” (Lk. 9:62)

I want to share an experience with you that taught me to never go backward, never compromise with what God has shown you. I think it has some prophetic significance for you as well.

A few years ago I was briefly involved with a television ministry. I say briefly because six months after they hired me to coordinate their discipleship program and lead their fellowship they decided they had made a mistake and I was the wrong person for this job. They started out saying this was not a religious thing but in the end it turned out to be a religious thing, and putting me in a religious thing is like trying to mix oil and water.

Well, to make a long story short, after six months I said you know, I believe we are at a crossroads here, and I suggest we take a week to just fast and pray and seek God about what our next steps should be. That was Sunday. On Wednesday the owner called me in and fired me. So it didn’t even take a week and I had my answer, although it wasn’t the answer I expected...

Hey Elaine,

In the 1500's, William Tyndale was translating the Bible from Latin into English, angering the Pope.

One of the priests warned Tyndale: "We had better be without God's laws than the Pope's!"

Tyndale responded:

"I defy the Pope, and all his laws! And if God spares my life, ere many years, I will cause the boy that drives the plow to know more of the Scriptures than you do!"

I like William Tyndale (reminds me of me) :-)

This is a good example of what Jesus meant when He observed how the Pharisees "set aside the commandment of God" for the sake of their tradition.

Exalting man's customs over God's commands...

Elevating tradition over truth...

It happened in Jesus' time, and it happens in ours.

Yet it still seems to crop up and take people by surprise when they find these religious tendencies happening in their own head!

You'll be better equipped to recognize and respond to those tendencies after this week's study:

Adjustment to the Government
of the Holy Spirit
by Chip Brogden
Let me explain to you, as best I can, what I am hearing and seeing by the Spirit of God. He is bringing me through a very deep and very penetrating season of adjustment.

Now I just love that word adjustment. Adjustment. I know it is uncomfortable and disconcerting to have the sense that everything you thought you knew is wrong (or at best, incomplete), and God shows you a different way, a more excellent way, and usually that “way” is not a way that you would have chosen or come to on your own. It is not a process that anyone particularly enjoys going through.

Even so, we are all in need of a major adjustment. I have a saying that has served me well through the years, and I’d like to share it with you now: the purpose of revelation is not to SUBSTANTIATE your illusions, but to ELIMINATE them. Do not seek confirmation from God as to your thoughts and your perception of things, but seek instead to be disillusioned; seek to be rid of all your illusions about God, all your misperceptions and misconceptions about Who He is and what He is doing. Seek to know Him and His Will no matter how contrary it seems to everything you have heard and learned and experienced up to this point...

The most difficult people to help are often the ones closest to you.

Maybe you can relate.

Even Jesus of Nazareth "could do no mighty work” in Nazareth – apart from healing a few sick people!

Why not? Because of their unbelief.

Jesus "marveled" at their unbelief!

He was amazed at how few people would trust Him.

Similarly, our unbelief limits what God is able to do in our lives and in the lives of those around us.

I don't think we can limit God forever, or resist Him forever.

But while we ARE resisting Him (through unbelief, doubt, fear, sin, rebellion, disobedience) it certainly affects our quality of life, doesn't it?

Just part of what we'll explore in tonight's class...

Hey Elaine,

Last week we saw how Jesus dealt with impossible situations.

A demon-possessed man that no one could control...

A woman who spent all her money on doctors and only got worse...

A little girl who died...

In each case, Jesus did the impossible.

But these are personal, one-on-one cases.

How does Jesus handle the multitude?

In the first place, the crowds do not bother Jesus.

He is not overwhelmed by their many needs.

Instead, He continue to demonstrate His heart as the Deliverer of the people.

Moved with compassion, He saves, heals, and delivers.

I believe He is the same "yesterday, today and forever."

And I believe His compassion - and miraculous intervention - still happens today.

Because we still need people with compassion to minister to the multitude.

Join us this week as we continue our study...

The Call of the Cross
by Chip Brogden
How do we live out the Christian life? It begins with taking up the Cross. Then, only then, can we follow, for when we cease to do, He begins to do.

What is the Christian life? It is I in Christ, and it is Christ in me and through me, doing what I cannot do myself. “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live: yet not I, but Christ liveth in me (Gal.2:20a).” This is the secret of the Christian life. It is not girding up the loins and striving to do better – it is realizing we cannot, and ceasing to do, trusting Him to do what we cannot. Our problem is with think we CAN do it. Hopefully we realize we cannot save ourselves, and so we trust the Lord for that; but in everything else we ask the Lord to help us to do it ourselves. We go forth and attempt to put into practice the teachings of Christ with our own human strength, willpower, and resolutions. That is not Christianity, that is religion...
