"Not Many Fathers"
Not Many Fathers:
What Apostles Are
and Why We
Still Need Them
A New Book by Chip Brogden
LEARN MORE https://www.chipbrogden.com/not-many-fathers/
Hi Elaine,

It's been awhile since I put out a new book, so I'm really happy to make this one available to you :-)

Both Paul and John refer to their brothers and sisters as “my little children.” We should not infer from this that the apostles are assuming the Father’s role; but, as elder brothers, they certainly reflected the Father’s heart towards His children, beyond mere preaching and teaching.

What exactly is the Father’s heart toward His children? How is the Father’s heart uniquely reflected through apostles? And how can we have the Father’s heart without taking the Father’s place?

These are some of the questions we explore in this book. It's available on Amazon in paperback (124 pages) or Kindle editions.

Please check it out this weekend we you have a chance:

Hey Elaine,

If you haven't registered for tonight's webinar, here's the info again:

THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (1 Cor. 6)
Thursday, September 27, 2018
7:00 p.m. Eastern Time (New York)

Go here to register for this online class:
--> http://chipbrogden.com/bible

We're talking about YOU being the Temple of the Holy Spirit, and I'll also share the best way to overcome those sins of the flesh - sexual impurity, food, and addictions.

Don't think you're too spiritual for this to apply to you... Paul's letter to the Corinthians shows they struggled with these things, the same as we do.

Hope to "see" you tonight!

Post  Admin Tue 25 Sep 2018, 8:45 pm

Hey Elaine,

We resume our online Bible study this week with a look at what it means to be the TEMPLE of the Holy Spirit.

To the Jew, Paul is suggesting something blasphemous - that the manifest presence of God in a person rendered the physical temple in Jerusalem an irrelevant relic of religion (and coming from Paul, that is quite a thing for him to say).

To the Greek, Paul is suggesting something equally blasphemous - that the buildings and temples dedicated to their various gods were not only false, but obsolete and meaningless.

And yet, in my travels, I notice how many buildings made with hands are named Church, Tabernacle, Temple, or Sanctuary.

The Spirit of Jesus no longer recognizes any such structure.

God does not dwell in temples made with hands.

All these things distract us from the greatest of all spiritual mysteries:

CHRIST IN YOU.

Not "over here" or "up there" but WITHIN.

This is part of the mystery behind the insight that we ARE the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Fascinating, tremendous truth that is seldom considered and hardly experienced.

So join us as we dig into this truth a little more...

Beat the Press
By Chip Brogden
“And [Zacchaeus] sought to see Jesus
who he was; and could not for the press,
because he was little of stature”
(Lk. 19:3).

“Press” is the root word of “pressure.”
When people feel under pressure they
use another word to describe
it: “stressed.”

Stress and pressure. Too many things going on. Spiritual things, being invisible and intangible, become less and less thought of, as the things, concerns, and cares of the world press in upon us.

We can’t see Jesus for the press.

Zacchaeus did two things to beat the press and see Jesus....

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your prayers and for checking up on us during Hurricane Florence.

We weathered the storm well, all things considered. We had a couple of close calls with tornados spun off by the hurricane; one evaporated as it approached our home, and the other passed us by.

Unfortunately, our friends and neighbors just to the south did not fare as well. Damaging winds, storm surge, epic rainfall, and flooding has washed out hundreds of roads and bridges. In some ways, the worse is yet to come.

Even so, we see the mercies of God in bringing good out of evil. We are thankful that the storm weakened before coming ashore. And while we hate to see any loss of life, we know it could have been much worse.

I came across a quote that I believe gives us the proper perspective on natural disasters like this:

"No evil ever came from God’s hands. Let this truth be fixed in our hearts... whenever we are troubled with any of the countless pains of our present condition... Let us remember that God made all things good, and avoiding hard thoughts of Him, say, an enemy hath done this." - G.H. Pember

There are many things in this fallen world that come against you.

But God is FOR you, God is WITH you, God is IN you.

And greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world!

I hope you will take that encouragement with you, whatever storm you face right now.

Hey Elaine,

I'm moving this week's online Bible study to WEDNESDAY since we are forecast to have a major hurricane later this week.

And I don't want to miss giving you the final installment that wraps up our series on the Gospel of Mark, because we end with RESURRECTION that makes CRUCIFIXION worthwhile.

If the message is "take up the Cross and die" then it isn't very good news.

That's not the message.

The message is: we are the crucified, dead, buried, RESURRECTED, ascended and seated BRANCHES of a crucified, dead, buried, RESURRECTED, ascended and seated Vine.

Jesus humbled Himself (on the Cross); therefore, God has highly exalted Him (resurrection and ascension).

And the wonderful this is that WE have been raised and are seated TOGETHER WITH HIM (Eph. 2:6).

Wow!

Do we even grasp that?

Join us Wednesday as we discuss what it all means.

No Fellowship? No Problem!
By Chip Brogden
You will never truly appreciate or benefit from fellowship until you have learned how to live without it.

There already is a fellowship of saints. It is a spiritual fellowship, and it is based on Christ having the preeminence – not the fellowship having preeminence. All this yearning for fellowship and being with others is the result of being hung-over from the religious system. You’re trying to fill a void that religion used to fill.

The purpose of solitude in the spiritual desert is to get you to see that Jesus is Enough. You’re not going to die from lack of fellowship, but if you don’t learn that Jesus is Enough then spiritually speaking you’re dead already. He’s the One you need to be focused on – not starting a fellowship, not finding a home group, not making something happen with other people.

And already I can hear the “yeah buts”...

Jesus is not only our Substitute; He is also our Example.

That means the Cross is not just something we look back on, but something we take up daily.

How?

Why?

Hey Elaine,

Jesus said if you're going to follow Him then you have to count the cost.

That's because taking up the Cross isn't easy - it's hard!

Today's "easy as 1-2-3" fake gospel never talks about paying the price.

"Jesus did it all," they say, "So we don't have to do anything."

Really?

This probably accounts for all the "easy believers" who look and sound like deeply committed followers until a little discomfort comes their way, and then they fall away - disappointed.

The only way to fix this delusion is to embrace the Cross and give up the entitlement mentality.

The Cross is about taking the difficult path of Love.

Love is not about taking, but about giving.

Love is not about making my life better, but laying down my life for a purpose bigger than my own prosperity.

Love isn't easy - but love never fails!

And this is really the only way to make sense out of the Cross.

It isn't something that is "done" to us - it is something we willingly choose.

Join us this week as we dig more deeply into these truths...

The Abundant Life
 Chip Brogden
There are two aspects, two sides to this glorious truth: first, that I AM IN CHRIST; second, that CHRIST IS IN ME. If the first is true, and I am living in Christ, then the second follows naturally – Christ is living in me.

The “word of faith” people, the “name it and claim it” people, have always taken the “abundant life” in verse 10 to mean that God is going to give us the “abundant life” of this world – money, and the things that money can buy. To them this is a proof-text for prosperity, for material things. I know it is a stretch. It’s hard to understand how people can lift this verse out of the passage and teach it that way, but carnal people manage to teach it and believe it. That’s why the natural man cannot receive the things of the Spirit because they are spiritually discerned.

Well, let’s go deeper. “The Good Shepherd gives His Life for the sheep.” In one sense of course, in the most commonly interpreted sense, Jesus is speaking of his death on the Cross. He lays down His life for the sheep so they can be saved. Well, that is the natural side of it, I suppose. I’m not saying that’s incorrect. But is there a deeper meaning that can apply?

Oh yes, I believe so...

Hey Elaine,

God's wisdom is higher than our own.

This wisdom is revealed in the foolishness of the Cross.

Why would God allow His own Son to be cursed and crucified?

I know the "textbook" answer.

But do you really understand the wisdom of it?

Scripture declares that had the princes of this world understood this wisdom, they would have never crucified the Lord of Glory.

And if we fully understood it, we would embrace it.

But whether we understand it or not, God still uses the principle of the Cross to work death, burial, and resurrection in us.

I always think it is better to understand what is happening so you can cooperate with it, but the truth is, it's working in your life whether you understand it or not, whether you like it or not :-)

We'll discuss these things (and more) in this week's online Bible study:

The Joy of Unconditional Surrender
by Chip Brogden
When our surrender is unconditional,
when our submission is complete, there is nothing
leftover for the Self-life to grasp.

Many hear the teaching of the Cross and the decrease of Self and spend a lot of time (too much time) trying very hard to decrease themselves. This usually results in a lot of endless introspection, analyzing, and eventual frustration. It seems the more we pay attention to ourselves, the larger we become, and the more things we find wrong. It is a fact of life that we usually get more of whatever we focus on. If we focus on Self, even in a valiant attempt to decrease Self, it seems Self just gets stronger.

Scripture does not teach us to decrease ourselves through asceticism, clothing ourselves in rags, or telling everyone that we are lowly worms. This accomplishes nothing, and actually has the opposite effect of drawing undue attention to ourselves. On the contrary, Scripture teaches us to seek first the Kingdom of God and to pray daily for the Will of God. This is a far more positive and productive approach. By focusing on what we want – the increase of Christ – we receive exactly what we ask for – the increase of Christ. The fringe benefit of Christ increasing is that Self automatically decreases...

Hey Elaine Jehu,

Religion puts Jesus "out there" or "up there" or even "in this place" but cannot truly lead you into the experience of CHRIST IN YOU and YOU IN CHRIST.

I'm sure many will follow Jesus up to a point.

I'm sure there are many who even love Jesus and say they will never forsake Him (like Peter).

But without Jesus living IN them, they will forsake Him and flee when the going gets tough.

You see, there's quite a difference between the disciples before and after the filing of the Spirit.

But what is the "filling of the Spirit"?

What is "Spirit-filled"?

What is "Spirit-baptized"?

Just to be clear, "Spirit-filled" means "Christ in you, the Hope of Glory."

That's it.

That's why Jesus said it's better for you that I go away, so My Spirit can come and live within you.

Following Jesus around, hearing His teachings, even doing signs and wonders in His name did not keep the disciples on the narrow path.

"They all forsook Him and fled."

Following Jesus is one thing, but Jesus living in you is something else.

Do you know the difference?

Trying to follow without being filled leads to failure.

When we are filled, then we are fit follow.

We'll discuss these things during this week's Bible study:

Gathering: But Not for the Better!
By Chip Brogden
By establishing His Presence in the midst of a group so small as two or three, Jesus repudiates our fascination with large numbers.

Anyone can gather a crowd if you tell them what they want to hear. May I say that a large group has no more of the presence of Jesus than a small group. The numbers are irrelevant. Either Jesus is in the midst, or He is not. If Jesus is not in the midst of us then having a large group of people will not compensate for Him not being there.

I would rather sit on the living room floor with three people and have Jesus in the midst than sit in a service with three thousand people where Jesus is nowhere to be found.

Of course, Jesus can sometimes be found in large groups of people, but as my wife says, He tends to get lost in the crowd...

Hey Elaine,

Jesus said His yoke is easy, and His burden is light.

Yet He continually calls His disciples to take up the cross and follow Him.

Is this a contradiction?

Of course not.

But if it is taught at all (which it usually isn't), taking up the Cross can come across as yet another religious burden we have to carry, yet another work we have to do, and it's feels like torture.

I think that is the wrong way of looking at.

There is really only one reason why, and only one way to, take up the Cross.

We'll touch on that (and much more) in tonight's online Bible study:

Hey Elaine Jehu,

The last week of Jesus' earthly ministry receives a lot of attention.

But often overlooked are the prophetic and spiritual symbols that present themselves over and over again during this final week.

The alabaster flask... the breaking of the bread... the prayer in the Garden.

All of these point to Life out of Death, Good out of Evil.

And they each contain lessons for how we may live and walk in Christ NOW.

We'll take a look at them in this week's online Bible study:

All Things in Christ
By Chip Brogden
“For of Him, and through Him,
and to Him, are all things: to Whom
be glory for ever. Amen."
(Romans 11:36)

In my written and spoken messages I make frequent reference to the preeminence of Christ. Just what do we mean by Christ having the preeminence? What do we mean by giving Christ the preeminence in all things?

“Preeminence” literally means having the first, highest, chief, and best place in a position of ascendancy over everything else. It is an ultimacy, a glory, an honor, a distinction, a prestige, an illustriousness, a renown, a notability, and a nobility that surpasses all others. Paul simply says that the aim of God is for JESUS CHRIST to have THAT kind of position in – all things. That explains everything God has done, is doing and will do.

But what does he mean by “all things”?

Hey Elaine Jehu

As Jesus was leaving the Temple, His disciples wanted Him to notice how beautiful the building is.

Funny how human nature hasn't changed that much in a couple thousand years.

We still think God is impressed with our churches and ministry buildings.

Jesus taught His disciples not to get too excited or attached to that beautiful building because it was all going to be destroyed.

He then tells them what they SHOULD be paying attention to, warning them what to expect.

All but one event was fulfilled in AD 70.

Which one?

We'll look at that in this week's study and see how it applies to us today...

Hey Elaine!

“Judgment” has an ominous, sinister tone because the spiritually immature have made it sound like a cuss word.

Yet, “judgment” is absolutely essential – even desirable! – if we ever hope to see a world where evil is destroyed and goodness reigns.

Here’s the problem:

We live in a world system that reeks of tolerance and acceptance of every alternative lifestyle and preference.

If you don’t accept something, you get bullied into submission.

And, since the church system basically mirrors the world system, carnal Christians take on the same “anything goes” mentality – they just cover it up with some “don’t judge” whitewash that makes them look and sound oh-so-spiritual.

Well, God is merciful and forgiving but that’s not ALL He is.

God is also holy and righteous.

God executes righteous judgment, and calls upon us to do the same.

Instead of sticking our heads in the sand, instead of adopting the “don’t judge me” mindset of the world, let’s go to Scripture to see what God says about RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT so we can receive Biblical wisdom for discernment without condemnation.

Some things we will consider include:
The surprisingly positive outcome of righteous judgment

The difference between condemnation and judgment

Who is qualified to judge righteously

A Scriptural approach to accountability, works, punishments, and rewards

Much more!

There are 5 messages (nearly 8 hours) of teaching in this series:

Righteous Judgment: Part 1 (1 hour 29 minutes)

What righteous judgment is, why it is so critically important, the surprisingly good purpose behind righteous judgment, and 4 Biblical ways to understand and apply righteous judgment.

Righteous Judgment: Part 2 (1 hour 23 minutes)

This is strong meat for the pretty advanced… certainly not what they teach you in Sunday School. We really have to divide the Word with a very sharp cutting instrument to discern the difference between judgment and condemnation. From what I see and hear, few people know the difference. Do you?

Righteous Judgment: Part 3 (1 hour 40 minutes)

It doesn’t take a brilliant prophet to prophesy doom, gloom and destruction. The U.S. is a convenient target for prophetic opportunists trying to get publicity for their “words.” But it takes spiritual maturity to rightly divide the Word and use discernment to understand the purpose for God’s judgment, and how that judgment might be delayed, lessened, or avoided altogether. This applies to ALL NATIONS, not just the U.S.! So wherever you are in the world, you live in a nation, and that nation falls under the judgment of God to some degree. What should you expect? What should you be doing?

Righteous Judgment: Part 4 (1 hour 18 minutes)

Judgment on the world gets all the attention – they write books about it, they make movies about it. But the Book of Revelation starts out with judgment in the house of God: Jesus, standing in the midst of the lampstands, warning of their spiritual condition their need to repent, and what’s going to happen if they don’t. That doesn’t get as much attention. We’d rather prefer to see all those sinners judged and ourselves left untouched (or “raptured”). But there is no escaping the plain truth: God will judge us before He judges the world. And it’s not what you expect!

Righteous Judgment: Part 5 (1 hour 40 minutes)

According to Scripture, all of us must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, and we’re going to be held accountable for what we DO, whether good or bad. This is just one example of God’s Word contradicting popular opinion when it comes to judgment, works, punishments and rewards. We’ll cover this and much more in the epic conclusion to our teaching series on RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT.

Hey Elaine Jehu,

Jesus warned the Jews that "the Kingdom will be taken from you and given to another nation who will bring forth its fruits."

Do we believe what Jesus said?

It all came true.

Israel lost the Kingdom.

Another nation was given the Kingdom.

Which nation has the Kingdom now?

(And if you say the U.S., the U.K., Mongolia, Mexico, Mozambique, or any other earthly nation, try again.)

For the record, I believe the Scripture that says, "All Israel will be saved."

But they won't be saved by building another Temple and offering animal sacrifices according to the Law of Moses.

They will be saved the same way all of us are saved: by faith in Yeshua (Jesus), the Savior of All.

We'll discuss this (and much more) tonight:
